Pakistani veteran actor Naila Jaffery has been suffering from cancer and is bravely fighting it out. She had earlier applied to get help from the government but will no longer accept it.

According to The Express Tribune, a cheque of rupees 500,000 is in the process of being issued to her but she will no longer accept it in order to protest, since the government has allowed an Indian tycoon Sajjan Jindal in Pakistan with a no-police-inquiry visa.

“I cannot accept a dime from the government that entertains people from the very country that has been plotting against us our interests and our people,” she told The Express Tribune.

“I am glad that the government decided to offer me help but I really can’t accept this fund under present circumstances. The love, respect and prayers I have received from my people when they came to know of my illness is unimaginable and I won’t do anything that hurts their feelings.”

“The owner of the house took four months advance rent and its just been two months he has been threatening me. He is demanding to increase the rent or empty the house. It’s not possible for me to pay the double rent. I sent an application to the court to let me stay here in pandemic until I can find a new house. I couldn’t find till yet so I have decided to come back to Karachi. My case is still going on but behind my back, these people attacked my house and threatened me to leave the house or else he will throw away my stuff. I tried to record a video but he hit my hand and threw stones at my place.”

She further added, “My case is nothing but how people are suffering here due to the Jirga system is horrible. I don’t care about my life because I have cancer and now I don’t care much about my life.”

She also shared that she was making a show to inform people about the herbs and places of Gilgit Baltistan.

Naheed Akhtar is the nightingale of Pakistan the name that needs no introduction. Her career began in 1970 when she sang a duet with Khalid Asghar in “Raag Malhar” at Radio Pakistan Multan. She has recorded songs in a range of styles, including Pakistani film music, pop, Ghazal, traditional Pakistani classical music, Punjabi folk songs, Qawwalis, Naat & Hamds & Others. She was active in the Pakistani film industry during 70s and 80s.

Naheed Akhtar made an appearance on stage in 2013, after repeated requests of the management of a TV show, where active and popular singers like Shabnam Majeed and Saima Jahan sang her songs to pay tribute to her. She stays busy with her family and children, and as of 2016, is not actively pursuing a singing career.

She said, “My mother wanted me to become a doctor because she was a doctor. Also, I did FSC with the pre medical subjects but I couldn’t become a doctor, I rather opted for mass communication. Many believe that now that she has gained fame, she is making such statements to keep herself in the limelight and in the news.
