Pakistani cinema owners and the industry has been going through severe losses after imposing ban on Indian films and even though the suspension was lifted few weeks back the NOC issue has held back release of new films. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had recently formed a committee to release Indian films in Pakistan and seems like it has got the job done and the NOC issue might have been solved.

One of the most awaited film Raees is geared up to release on January 25, 2017. The film has been a part of many controversies till date due to the inclusion of Mahira Khan. The controversy was smartly averted after SRK assured Raj Thackery that Mahira would not be a part of any film promotions but seems like the film is in trouble all over again!

According to recent reports from Indian Express, film exhibitors in central Indian state Chhattisgarh are now receiving threats from Shiv Sena. In a threat letter delivered to all exhibitors in Chhattisgarh, Rakesh Shinde, Chattisgarh Shiv Sena head, has asked exhibitors in Durg and Bhilai to not screen Raees in their theatres, failing which they will be solely responsible for the consequences.

It looks like Shah Rukh Khan just can’t seem to catch a break.

SRK had struck a deal with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena that he would not involve his Pakistani co-star Mahira Khan in their film’s promotions in exchange for the peaceful release of Raees.

Talking to indianexpress.com, Akshaye Rathi said, “All of us exhibitors in Chhattisgarh have got these letter which the subject reads a request for ban on Raees. The body of the letter asks all exhibitors to not screen any ‘deshdrohi’s film’ and if the cinema owners do so, they will be solely responsible for all the consequences. It’s signed by Rakesh Shinde, Chhattisgarh Shiv Sena head. It’s letter dated 5th January and was delivered to us day before yesterday.”

Exhibitors have to take threats of disruption seriously, Akshaye shared.

“It’s illegal to say that you will stall a film that has been certified by the CBFC for release. Also something needs to be done about this threat letter. We have informed the police about it. When PK was released, one of the cinemas in Bhilai was seriously vandalised and the damage cost me Rs6 lacs. Dilwale too has not yet released in Durg. Even if one cinema gets vandalised, people who want to watch the film will get scared and prefer staying at home and buying pirated copies which will affect the industry,” said Akshaye.

The threats have been reported to the police and the exhibitors plan to approach the Chief Minister for the smooth release of the film.

Mahira Khan’s Bollywood debut Raees released globally on January 25 but did not released in Pakistan. Mahira, recently at a press conference in India, through a video call expressed that everyone in Pakistan is eagerly waiting for the gangster-drama’s release. But seems like the excitement of her fans is going to be shattered since Raees has been declared unsuitable by the Central Censor Board and is banned in Pakistan. Rumors were abuzz that the film will hit local cinemas soon but latest reports from leading daily suggest that the film will not be releasing in Pakistan.

As per the details, the Pakistani censor board reviewed the movie for three days to decide whether it should be released in Pakistan. Now, the content of the movie has been declared unsuitable for releasing in Pakistani cinemas and is banned for “inappropriate portrayal of Muslims.”

The members of censor board committee while banning the movie remarked that Raees did not depict the real face of Islam. It is banned because of portraying Muslim as criminals, terrorists and undermining a specific sector.

Set against the 1980s India, Raees tells the story of a Muslim bootlegger whose “business” is thwarted by a tough policeman. The movie is directed by Rahul Dholakia and stars Pakistani Diva Mahira Khan opposite Shah Rukh Khan in lead roles.

Mahira Khan is coming back to cinemas with Love Guru. She was last seen in The Legend of Maula Jatt. She will be playing Sophiya Khan in Love Guru opposite Humayun Saeed. The lead actors have been on a big promotional tour internationally and nationally. They have given interviews, interacted with fans and had a generally great time while travelling through diferent cities.

Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed were recently interacting with media and Mahira had a special prayer for Love Guru. The film is a big one for Pakistani cinemas as not many big movies have come out since Maula Jatt. Mahira Khan not only prayed for the success of Love Guru herself. She asked everyone present there to join her for a collective prayer for her film’s success.

Mahira Khan was praying for Love Guru that how much it should earn. Humayun Saeed added to pray for a 100 crore box office. She then prayed that Love Guru earns at least 100 crore at the box office. She also asked the journalists to join in on her prayer. The film has been produced on a huge budget of 28 crores.
