Like Mother , Like Daughters !!!

There has been a lot of study on the emergence of new age women who are strong, fearless and speak their minds. Numerous studies show that it is a collaboration of nature plus nurture, and this can be proved by another story of a very strong mother daughters trio.

Urwa Hocane and Mawra Hocane are two sisters who have seriously taken the world of Pakistani showbiz by storm. Despite not being extraordinarily talented and making some very widely criticised life style choices, you have to give one thing to them: they are passionate, ambitious and hard working. There is no denying the fact that they are go getters, which itself is a very admirable personality trait to have, especially in women. They had come in an interview with their mother many years back, while they were still debutantes, when the threesome talked about how their mother’s personality shaped their personal and professional choices.

Recently their mother Razia Makhdoom, who is settled in Sydney, Australia and is very active in community services there was awarded with an honour from the Australian Learning Council, after she had organised a memorable Independence Day for Pakistanis in Sydney.

Like Mother , Like Daughters !!!

Like Mother , Like Daughters !!!

Mawra has also shared an inspiring post about her mother, who has not ceased to learn and improve her education till now.

Like Mother , Like Daughters !!!

No wonder Mawra is so intent on finishing her law degree despite her heavy scheduling as an actress. She has been known to study while she travels for work.

Urwa is also an example of hard work on her own. Along with being newly married, she is starring in four films this year. These girls never stop and they are right to always point at their mother when asked about their motivating force.

Like Mother , Like Daughters !!!

Here’s to strong women of today. May we be them, may we know them and may we raise them.

Like Hoccane Sisters, Sohai Ali Abro Disappoints Her Fans!

For a good actress/ model good looks, acting skills, good outfits all carry importance but everything looks good in certain limits. Sohai has previously done many good dramas, then she also appeared on the silver screen and worked really well. Sohai lately was the show stopper at Pfdc L’oreal Paris Bridal Week for Shamsa Hashwani.

The time when Sohai disappointed her fans was when she was backstage and the kind of outfit she was wearing. The skinny jeans and short tummy-revealing top was extremely bold and made her look vulgar instead of looking modern and trendy.

The models/ actresses should differentiate between looking attractive and unacceptable!

Like father, like daughter

His refreshing humor and charming personality paired with his superb sense of style, the host of Jeeto Pakistan has made the Pakistani audience fall in love with him. But there is more to him than just style and looks; Fahad has a beautiful relationship with his lovely daughter.

Once again, the father-daughter bond was brought to our TV screens in Jeeto Pakistan, Fahad’s very own show. One can easily argue that it was the cutest thing on television today.

Fahad’s daughter was present in the segment where he asks his audience members to choose a box from a number of boxes to receive what’s inside as their gift. He likes to prolong the segment as well as make it interesting by saying “Sooch lo” to dabbas that usually don’t contain anything worthwhile.

Nothing of this sort happened today as the cute girl didn’t give her daddy a chance to even say that. As soon a box was called out by the dad, the kid opened it without any preamble. This had the audience members amused and Fahad playfully frustrated.

The little angle kept roaming around the set; living in her own happy world, playing with what the set of Jeeto Pakistan offered her. Fahad ‘scolded’ his daughter in such a manner that every member of the audience couldn’t help but smile at the words that made out of his mouth. Fatima paid no heed to whatever he was saying, and kept doing as she pleased!

The smile on the host’s face as he watched his daughter standing next to him, helping him entertain the audience, was one of utter adoration and love.  Look at the picture he shared on his twitter from today’s show :

Like father, like daughter

A father’s influence in his daughter’s life shapes her self-esteem, self-image, confidence and opinions of men. Fahad seems to be doing a pretty good job at it. Have a look at the times he brought Fatima on set in the past:

Lights + Camera = Expressionless!

0

Expressions are the only weapon that can make or break an actor. The only way for any actor or actress to convey the crux of their character is to be expressive. We have always praised a lot of actors for their memorable performances because they didn’t hold back when it came to the expressions but sadly, we can’t say that about all the actors of our industry.

Here, when we talk about expressionless performers, we are speaking about them resorting to similar sort of expressions in all of their performances, making the viewers confused about what they actually want to convey. Here’s a list of few of those respected actor & actresses who have been a bit skeptical in letting go of the appropriate expressions that are needed given the situation:

Mahnoor Baloch

The pout must stay everything else is secondary!

Mahnoor Baloch is very pretty, there is no questioning that but sadly her acting has never been impressive. The constant pouted expression on her face remains the same no matter what her character is going through. She looks cute as a button but the cuteness does not fit into all the scenes and every character that she plays.

Mahnoor Baloch

Suhai Ali Abro

Why So Serious?

I must say this girl has deceived all the viewers every single time. In all the title tracks of her dramas she comes across as a chirpy, happy-go-lucky girl who lives her life to the fullest but the moment drama begins she endorses the never-ending pain on her face as if her life has never offered her anything apart from miseries. I am sure you’re capable of smiling & laughing as well Suhai, so do give it a try once a while, it’s a nice exercise for the face too. ;)

Suhai Abro

 Faris Shafi

Acting is a VERY serious profession. ;)

This gentleman takes his acting very seriously! how do I know that? Well, it is quite evident from the chronic anxiety on his face! Faris Shafi has a very expressive face but the problem is that those expressions remain the same in all situations.

Faris Shafi

Mawra Hocane

It’s time to wake up!

She is such a pretty face & her selfies on her FB page do tell that she can pull off all the humanly possible expressions but not sure what goes into her in front of the cameras. The typical ‘mai-so-rahi-hoon’ face is burdensome to watch in all the dramas & now when I come to think of it, I have never seen this girl laugh, as in laugh like a proper laugh. Prove me wrong sweety, prove me wrong.

Hawra Hocane
Faizan Khawaja

Life is tough!!!

If you press the mute button while watching one of Faizan’s plays, you will never know what his character is going through because Faizan looks very upset with life all the time! He is also one of those actors who need to be more generous when it comes to expressing themselves.

Faizan Khwaja
Irsa Ghazal

I hear a sad song in the background.

I know she has grabbed a lot of compliments for her performance in Ullu Bara-e-Farokht Nahi & even I became a fan of her elegance in Kahi Unkahi but I don’t know why I never see a change in her expression. She seems like a sad sculpture whatever the scene may be. Despite the fact that she is one of the most graceful ladies of the industry, I would appreciate if she uses her expressions a bit more casually & doesn’t hold back.

Irsa Ghazal
Tipu Sharif

I am cute and I know it!

Tipu Sharif fails to show his emotions in an impressive manner through his expressions perhaps because he is another actor who is very conscious about his looks. Most of the times he concentrates on looking cute, which in my opinion does not count much.

Tipu Sharif
Gohar Mumtaz

If only singing could help!

Yes, I think it’s totally cool if a person wants to explore different domains but when it comes to the acting, it’s not an easy feat. Acting needs a lot of hard work & lot of expressions too yes, I insist A LOT which have never made it to our screens through this young & fresh self-proclaimed actor.

Gohar Mumtaz
Yumna Zaidi

Earth, Country, City, Suburb, House, Room for improvement!!!

Yes, we have seen her play the oh so daring role of a sister’s husband snatcher BUT I wish I could see her eyes express what her expressions can’t. Even though she is doing a considerable amount of work in the industry & is seen on our TV screens every now & then, her expressions are yet to be revealed. I say that because I feel her expressions never make it to her eyes making her acting very bland.

Yumna Zaidi
Nadia Hussain

Plastic surgery limits a person’s ability to make full facial expressions!

Nadia Hussain’s facial expressions are always very stiff, as if she has trouble giving a full facial expression. I can’t help but think that the reason for this stiffness maybe because of botox and all the surgeries she has undergone. The lack of expressions definitely does not help her acting career in any way.

Nadia Hussain

Mikaal Zulfikar

I am bored & I show it!

Despite the fact that he has worked in so many dramas but he still has to make a mark in terms of expressing his real emotions. Whether it’s the expression in the dialogues or expressions on the face, this fine gentleman is definitely guilty of being skinflint in this department.

Mikaal Zulfikar
So, yes, this was our list & as a little disclaimer we want all the readers to know that this article was meant to be funny so there’s no need to take it seriously at all. Share your opinions with us about the actors who you think must up their game in the expressions & yes, trust us, no pun, only fun intended. ;)

Lighter side of life – If there is a season two!!!

0

Before I start off I need to make it clear that I am in no way impressed by super pretentious Koffee with Karan. I personally loathe the over pretentious scandals and personal drama depicted in the show. However when I saw the previews of our take on such show in the form of TUC: The Lighter Side of Life, I thought; it is finally happening. We are finally going to celebrate our own celebrities and give them a chance to share their lives with audience. I was wrong, what turned out was; a complete mess and a host who was seriously short on her homework. There was improvisation and laughter but all of it seemed imposed and pointless.
So if they are thinking of making another such show or coming up with another season of the same; they need to learn a few things.

I am here to discuss a few and I would be very happy if you would like to add some more.

The Host:

Mahira Khan has evolved enormously as an actor. Humsafar was the bedrock which established her as a serious actress and then she shined again in Shehr e Zaat. Although she been a VJ in past and that seemed to help her allot in her hosting duties, unfortunately it did not. Mahira was seriously underprepared for the celebrities she had in front of here.

The most embarrassing and taxing show was; when she had Ayesha Omar and Sanam Saeed on her show. I have tried so much but I have failed enormously to forget the bit where Mahira asks Sanam and Ayesha to VJ and attend an annoying caller, which was played by Mahira. For a moment there I was stunned beyond belief that Mahira thinks this as an intelligent show. The bit and caller was the most embarrassing, annoying and not at all funny part of the series.

There were instances where Mahira in front of many others tried to play it serious. She wanted to show that she is not all laughter but even when she was playing this serious host her questions very misplaced. And in those moments of sobriety she was so shallow and distant that she did not involve herself with the guests and the audience. All of it seemed to be a huge rush to ‘turki bey turki’; which again was like ‘what????:O”.

The Guests

Well I liked the other guests, but mostly I was annoyed when Ayesha Omar went on and on about the troubles of making it alone in the big city. There were points where as an audience I really wanted Sanam to speak but no…!!!!!! Ayesha Omar can have her own show for the entire year and yet she will never be up. When she was not telling her tale of woe, Ayesha Omar was having flashes of intellect where she was hell bent on imparting her words of wisdom. However I think that Sanam in that show held her poise and did not give way to the antics of her co-guest. Mahira was of no help in that show either, when you are hosting the show you expect the host to have some control over the show but Ayesha was totally out of control.

One more word of advice; when you are preparing for the show please make sure that you a bit different from each other. Other than the colors of your dresses all three ladies were dressed way too much alike from my liking and I really needed someone to show that she is buying some other stuff.

Content

The content of the show needs some serious bashing. There was actually no homework, I mean a little bit of here and there was all for the show to be put on air. There was no consistency in the show, at one moment in time Mahira was being all to serious and the very next moment she was being pointless who tried so hard to make people laugh, and then she was back again.

Dear TV people if you really want to make such shows, vest a little bit more a hard work. Flashy sets and dresses along with super imposed humor will not make the show work….

Lighter Side of Life – A show about Lifestyle of Media Personalities

0

Among the fresh shows of this season is Lighter Side of  Life, a 7th Sky Entertainment Production. This show will be broadcasted from Hum Tv on Saturdays at 9pm. As told by Nida earlier, Mahira Khan will be the one to host this show.

1463764_678988565468386_1827457138_n 1468771_678988552135054_1271175542_n 1469800_678988535468389_681915205_n 1499577_678988768801699_859800115_n

TUC Lighter Side of  Life will be a refreshing addition to the list of new shows and to add the charm Mahira will also be there. Being a VJ,it wont be difficult for her to host the show. But when it comes to deal with media personalities and their lives then it is relatively different as well as difficult to deal as compared to hosting a music show.

LHC Orders PEMRA To Take A Legal Action Against Sahir Lodhi’s Show

The Sahir Lodhi Morning Show controversy has taken a new turn. The Lahore High Court (LHC) today ordered the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to take legal action against Sahir Lodhi’s morning show in response to an application filed against the dance performances of young girls in the show.

LHC Orders PEMRA To Take A Legal Action Against Sahir Lodhi's Show

The court was hearing the petition approved to be heard against Lodhi and the show on Monday and directed Pemra to resolve the issue after hearing the complainant in accordance with the law.

Justice Shahid Karim commenced the proceedings on a petition, in which the petitioner had made parties to the Federal government, Pemra, Sahir Lodhi and others. The petitioner contended that dance performances by minor girls in Lodhi’s show were creating a negative impact on the society, resulting in incidents like the Kasur tragedy.

LHC Orders PEMRA To Take A Legal Action Against Sahir Lodhi's Show

The petitioner adopted the stance that Pemra was not taking strict actions to ban such shows, and appealed the apex court to take necessary actions in this regard.

LHC Directed PTA To Ban PUBG In Pakistan

Lahore High Court has finally taken the decision and has directed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to ban the noted online mobile gaming app PUBG (Player Unknown Battle Grounds) in Pakistan.

Descision was taken over when the petitioner claimed that the this game is creating negative impact in minds of our children and it can make them brutal and harsh in future.

The arbitrament was taken by Justice Atir Mahmood who asked PTA to take action against the game within 6 weeks.

LHC Directed PTA To Ban PUBG In Pakistan

It is important to add here that Pakistan is not the first country to ban PUBG, this game is already banned in Jordan, Aceh, Indonesian Province, Indian State of Gujarat, Iraq and Nepal.

For those who don’t know PUBG is a multi player online game which was initially released in 2016, present version is its modified form. PUBG became the most downloaded game of 2020 and this virtual fight to death game was the top-grossing game worldwide last month.

LHC Allows Private Pakistani Channels To Air Indian Movies

0

Lahore High Court has given permission to private television channels, having valid licences, to screen Indian films as per their terms of agreements with Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

The court also sought reply from the federal government pertaining to ban on Indian dramas on Pakistani TVs. The order was issued by Lahore High Court Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah.

The ban imposed on airing Indian content on cable television network was challenged by Leo Communication. The petitioner-company maintained the government was indulging in “selective patriotism” as Indian movies had been allowed to be screened all over the country but not on television.

Cheif Justice granted the permission to air films on private channels in a report that states “television channels are allowed to air Indian films as per clause 7.2 (ii) of Licence to Establish and Operate Satellite TV Broadcast Channel Station.”

A Pemra’s counsel had contended that the permission would be subject to terms and conditions of the licence under the Pemra Ordinance, 2002. The Chief Justice will resume further hearing on March 2.

Letters! A Critical Success Factor in Concluding Dramas

In past letters were used as a main medium for communication. In the era of less technology people tend to write letters in order to send information to someone living distantly. With an emerging technology where people can easily communicate with each other on real time basis, the significance of letters is almost zero and it is more or less used in business world only. Hence today letters are used as a mean of business and formal communication.

In today’s modern world where hardly anyone use letter for informal communication, our dramas give some real importance to it. Some dramas suggest that letters can be used as a medium to express your feelings to your loved one and we have also noticed that these letters had been proven as a critical success factor in concluding dramas.

Let’s take a tour of those dramas where directors and writers had shown some real power of letters and how these letters helped in concluding dramas.

Humsafar: In a desperate search for his wedding album, Ashar finally found a letter written to him by Khirad. This letter exposed all truth to Ashar and his mother’s plan to separate him from Khirad. Although Humsafar was flawlessly shot but it is little bit hard to digest that how come Ashar didn’t read the letter before when it was actually handed over to him by his servant? why did he put the letter in that wedding album box? We all knew that the conclusion of Humsafar drama relied on Khirad’s letter and when Ashar discovered that letter the drama got finished in the very next episode.

ashar

Durr e Shahwar: Shandana’s mother (Durr e Shahwar) told Shandana that life is not a bed of roses. Being married to Mansoor it was hard for her to make her Mother in law and Mansoor to realise that they were actually doing wrong to her. Although Durr e Shahwar gives Shandana a consolidation to sort out her marital problems by revealing her story but it was her father’s letters that helped Shandana to fix all problems with Haider.

durr e shahwar

Pyaray Afzal: Throughout the whole drama everyone was discussing the same thing that who was actually writing letters to Afzal. Everyone was hooked up to this drama for one solid suspense and that was Farah’s letters in Afzal’s cupboard. At one point we have started believing that it was Farah herself writing letters to Afzal, some believed that Lubna is interested in Afzal and she was writing those letters with Farah’s name. Those who suggested that it was Afzal writing letters to himself were right as Afzal from the beginning had always loved Farah. Poor Afzal as he was shot dead while Farah actually wrote letter to him in the end. The intense grieve prevailed among viewers even after drama got finished.

Laa: A short but engaging drama with diversified story from usual dramas stories. Laa was a visual treat to watch and got superbly ended without being dragged within 13 episodes. Daniyal’s journey came to end when he finally found his real mother and his step brother. Although Daniyal accomplished his mission but still upon knowing about his real mother he didn’t went to meet her. Hence he concluded his journey by writing letters to his real mother and to his friend Laila.

laa-final

Mausam: Hashir’s new found love for his father Fayyaz was indeed a solid reason for Nigar’s death (Hashir Mother). Nigar had spent a long time in a painful state as Fayyaz’s wife who was a selfish man and can destroy anyone’s life for his wishes. Hashir believed that her mother was wrong and he started behaving rudely towards his mother. This triggered her health issues to become worst and she eventually died. Before death she left a letter for Hashir in which she compared shazia’s selfish character with Fayyaz. She explained to Hashir that his life will be ruined if he got married to Shazia same as her life was ruined while being married to Fayyaz. That letter was a heartfelt indeed for Hashir. Hence Mausam was yet another drama in which letter was used to head the drama towards conclusion.

hashir

Moreover Letters were also used as a leaving note thereby leaving heavy impact on receiver. In drama serial “Main Abdul Qadir Hoon” Abdul Qadir left a note for his mother that he is going however he came back after Faiz’s death. In “Bilquees Kaur” Anjuman ran from the house leaving a note for Bilquees in order to save herself from watta satta marriage and to get married to faraz. Furhermore “Rung” drama next episode promo (Episode 22) shows that Saniya will give a leaving note to Zafar as Zafar is not ready to forgive her or giving her any chance to remedy her mistake and this will definitely make Zafar realise about his cold hearted behaviour towards her.

So any more dramas in your knowledge where letters are used for conclusion or as a leaving note?

Letter to Censor Board from “Happy Bhag Jayegi” Director

0

The Pakistani Censor board has pushed the director of the film “Happy Bhag Jaiyegi” to write an open letter.

h

Aziz shared that when he visited Pakistan he found it a wonderful place.

In the letter, Aziz said “I realised that this “perception” of lawlessness and lack of freedom of choice is untrue. Pakistan actually is a land of limitless potential and bright, eager minds. It left me pleasantly surprised.”

“In fact it seemed like I came back from a visit to the neighbours, just as neighbours should be!”

Due to his positive views about the country he is very much disappointed with the ban on the movie. He really wants substantial reason behind the ban by censor broad of Pakistan.

Aziz also said, “The first ever film content that showed people on both sides of this seventy-year-old border as simple human beings with affection, honesty, love and their small shortcomings was found OFFENSIVE by you! Wow!”

“I dare you to show Happy Bhag Jayegi to one common Pakistani. One who loves his family, strives for his daily bread, loves his cricket, loves his films and lives his life under the nonsensical garb that you force down his throat. Let that common smile-deprived Pakistani who is tired of being viewed as the only stranger in the world that has largely become one big melting pot today, come and tell you that he finds Happy Bhag Jayegi offensive, and I promise you that my apology note to you will be even longer than this letter.”

Lets see how much impact will this letter make on the censor board of Pakistan.

Let’s Talk About Politics

0

The elections are just around the corner and this time around it seems that the political parties have put in more effort on their elction campaigns than other years. The reasons for this are many; PML (N) has not been in power for quite a long time and they will put in any amount of effort to get as many electorates on their side as is possible, PTI stands tall as a dominant political party which goes to prove that they have done their homework well and want to get substantial seats in the upcoming elections or maybe bag themselves an eminent position in the central government. PPP is one of the very few governments in the past few years which managed to stay in power for the entire tenure and would not like to be defeated in these elections too. MQM maintains its position as a party that only gets votes from few regions alone and manages to form coalition governemtns every now and then. The real competition for the central government seems to be between PML (N) and PTI more than any other party. There are of course parties like Awami National Party (ANP); which is only popular in the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa province. The PTI seems to have worked hard in order to win the hearts of people in that particular province and may prove to be a threat to the ANP and Jamaat-e-Ulema Islami-Fazl ((JUI-F) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), which have always been neck to neck in the same region.

Sadly, the politics in Pakistan has usually been personality dominated. Most often people vote for personalities rather than what the parties stand for. Very often the electorate is not even well acquainted with what the party promises to do if it wins the elections but they vote for candidates solely because their loyalties have been with Nawaz Sharif or the Bhuttos for years. This time around Imran Khan is making his presence felt too and his charismatic appeal will also be the reason because of which many people may vote for him. Very often people give sympathy votes as well, people may vote for a party because it was ousted out of power in their last tenure or the leaders were exiled, people feel the party has been victimized and vote for them out of sympathy. A major part of the political campaigns of the parties are based on accusations which are followed by cross accusations and politics in turn becomes a very dirty game. The Election Commission of Pakistan requested the parties to avoid such accusations this year but that did not change much.

Lets take a look at what the leading parties have to offer; what is it that they have promised to do if they come in to power. Unfortunately our political history is full of many broken promises but nevertheless I think people have the right to know the manifestos of these political parties so that they can make a more informed decision.

Let’s start with Pakistan Muslim League (N); the slogan of PML (N) is “Hum Badlein Gay Pakistan” – Strong Economy – Strong Pakistan. The above statement is self explanatory; PML (N) intends to concentrate on economic development once it comes into power and will focus on agricultural as well as the industrial sector. This in turn would lead to a more economically viable Pakistan which PML (N) promises in the future. Anyone who is interested in reading the manifesto in detail can do so by clicking on this link

http://www.pmln.org/pmln-manifesto-english/

PML N

Pakistan Tehreek -e- Insaf stands for “Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem”, as the name of the part indicates justice is most important to this party and it believes in providing everyone with equal opportunities. PTI is a party which boasts of democratic foundations and promises to bring justice to the common man and give the common man his self esteem back. It vows to put an end to corruption and establish a new system that is transparent. PTI promises a “naya Pakistan built on Iqbal’s dream and Jinnah’s vision”. If you want to, you can read the detailed manifesto of PTI by clicking on this link

http://www.insaf.pk/AboutUs/Manifesto/tabid/138/Default.aspx

PTI

Pakistan People’s Party maintains the same slogan which it has carried for many years; a promise of the main provisions of livelihood for one and all “roti, kapra aur makaan”. Quite intestingly while all the other parties have quote Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal in the beginning o their manifestos, PPP has quoted Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in theirs. PPP vows to protect the people of Pakistan from external and internal Terrorism, promises accountability and has explained in detail what its policies are going to be regarding different provinces and Pakistan’s ties with other countries. Here is a link where you can read the manifesto in detail

http://www.ppp.org.pk/pppchange/manifestos/manifesto2013.pdf

PPP

Tell me honestly, how many of you actually read these manifestos before deciding which party you are going to vote for and if you haven’t gone through what a particular party promises to do once it comes in to power, how did you decide who you are going to vote for?

Let’s Talk About Dramas.

0

When I think of all the dramas that went on air this year, I can’t help but think that there were countless dramas which I started watching with great interest and found them engaging too but after ten episodes or so I completely lost interest in these plays and thought that I would probably catch up after the 20th episode or so. Has this ever happened with you? You started watching a play, enjoyed the story and acting and then lost interest in it after a few episodes? I would like to point out some of the reasons why this happens and how it can be avoided.

Firstly, in my opinion the producers need to stop stretching the plays to 20 episodes plus. If a play can be decently wrapped up in 15 episodes than why add five or more episodes? Obviously this is done in order to gain revenue. When a play is doing well it is extended unnecessarily in particular even if some of the episodes have to be added later on, case in point, Hamsafar and Shehr e Zaat. Durr e shehwar was one play that ended decently and was not stretched without end and therefore engaged its audience right till the end. In fact many people did not want it to end that early, is that not a better feeling than wanting the play to be finally over? Even with Hamsafar I remember feeling that the whole misunderstanding bit was being stretched without end.

When the dramas are stretched, the dialogues tend to be repetitive and the scenes too long which makes it difficult to look forward to the play week after week and catching up with it after a couple of weeks or so seems like the right thing to do.

Secondly, single track stories or a side track that is not interesting enough also makes a play less engaging. When the focus is on one person only or just one family it is nothing short of a feat to keep the interest of the audience alive. There should be multiple tracks in a play in order to make it more appealing.

Thirdly, Some of our dramas just become a little too serious and it would be a brilliant idea if there could be a comic character or a lighter side track in every play in order to break the monotony and bring a smile on people’s faces. Serious issues need to be addressed by our dramas but a lighter side track won’t hurt. In that way we can have some wholesome entertainment.

Fourthly, introducing new couples on-screen would also break the monotony. Our drama industry is blessed with some amazing actors and it is not that difficult to keep on experimenting by pairing different actors on-screen. We have enough bright directors too to create good chemistry between them, so why not.

Share with us how you feel about the points I discussed and if you would want to see these changes in our dramas.

Let’s Embark On A New Suffering…

For every one good drama that airs on TV, they bombard us with twenty that are so bad it makes you rethink your life choices! I’ve been walking around with a constant look of horror these past few weeks as I have witnessed the demise of our TV dramas. They all seem to start with a promise of showcasing something new- or maybe I’m just way too gullible to fall for it every single time…

Here is a recap of some of the recent dramas that have numbed my sensibilities so much so that I started coming up with conspiracy theories such as maybe PML-N is behind all this to distract us from the chaos in the country… Don’t blame me, my husband watches Pakistani Political news like it’s mandatory!

Ahsaas

Noman Ejaz is in every other drama and I think his primary condition for signing up is to let him enjoy at least two weddings! So the drama is about Noman Ejaz and his wife Zeba Bakhtiyar- they are a happily married couple with 2 grown up, married kids. But Zeba Bakhtiyar dies leaving a mourning Noman Ejaz behind who ends up marrying a much younger woman (Sara Khan) to help out her family… They threw in everything- from misunderstandings to what-have-you and by the end, they even kill off Noman Ejaz’s character to allow the other “hero” to take centre stage- Faisal Qureshi. I didn’t know why it had to end that way? I must’ve completely missed the point if there was even one to begin with? The drama went round in circles and you pretty much knew they’d give Sara Khan a happy ending just because she was poor and honest?

Dil Banjara

The big draw here was Adnan Mailk and Sanam Saeed both of who were so awful, I cringed until it left a permanent scar on my face! They did free publicity by promoting Nepal which made a handful of episodes watchable but not enough to salvage the drama. This drama was such a drag fest with predictable clichés and very weak acting. I really liked Adnan Mailk as Khelu is Sadqay Tumharey- granted he may have exhibited his “angry young man” side a tad too much but he made it work. This time around, however, it was just not working. Sanam Saeed needs to up her game. She’s just not managed to resurrect some of her brilliant roles like the ones in Talkhiyan, Daam, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Mera Naseeb…

Khoobsurat

Now here I was in a pickle to determine who was the most khoobsurat of them all? Tbh, I think Azfar Rehman’s pretty boy look was the winner but oh well! So Azfar loves his cousin who tries too hard to play cute- she even sports two braids for good measure. And after some hurdles, once they are married, there’s a vamp in the form of her new neighbour whose intentions I don’t care for and then there’s the broken hearted botoxy boss – Mahnoor Baloch who had a hard time getting her feelings across because, um, botox. The ending was very open-ended- I don’t know if they left it like that on purpose to confuse the audience or they stopped caring and just wanted to finish it off?

Mere Humnawa

Yet again Noman Ejaz succeeds at what he does best- dusri shadi! ARY dramas rarely entice me as they mostly end up being mediocre at best. However, this one has Noman Ejaz, Alishba Yusuf and Azfar Rahman so I thought I’d give it a shot. The drama was extremely predictable, Noman Ejaz managed to annoy me to the core and the ending, although predictable, didn’t really have any impact after weeks of putting up with the same old ghissi pitti story. My faith in humanity was severely shaken with this one.

Saya-e-dewaar

I don’t know who is responsible for this monstrosity but OH.MY.GOD! There was such misery in this drama that squeezed every last glimmer of hope that I usually hold on to. The messaging was lost probably due to being reinforced in such a harsh manner. Naveen Waqar and Ahsan Khan had zero chemistry and Emaad Irfani is super annoying- he tried too hard and failed. Naveen Waqar was an orphan raised in a Syed Khandaan who never knew of his reality until the time came for her marriage and she finds out she can’t marry the love of her life. She gets married to Emaad Irfani who abuses her but continues having children with her only to torture her further. Then he divorces her and she goes and marries a non-muslim guy then he divorces her too… As a result, her kids suffer from neglect and negative feelings and grow up as troubled individuals. The way Naveen was tossed around made me sick to my stomach and I really wish that PEMRA had gotten involved to raise an issue on the amount of abuse being shown. It has been extremely disturbing to come across such images and I hope that drama makers take note and make some much needed changes. There seemed to be no end to her misery- she even dies a horrible, cancer- related death! Ouch!

These were some of the ones I suffered through that have fortunately ended but there are a couple more like Seeta Bagri and Mushrik that have yet to disappear.

Did any of you sit through these dramas- before you ask “What were you thinking?” let me say there’s absolutely no intention of self-induced suffering. I just happen to get hooked to a very lame drama and it becomes somewhat of a mission to see it through to the end. Mind you, I probably cue most of the 40 odd minutes but see just enough to stay in the loop.

Let’s Talk About Stereotypes

0

The world of television is like a vortex and it manages to capture us into it’s massive power. We are slowly, but steadily becoming hoarders of entertainment overload. Many of us spend countless hours not just watching our favourite dramas but also reading articles related to them. We just can’t seem to have enough!

Having seen quite a few dramas myself, I noticed some very obvious stereotypes. Stereotypes are generalizations about a group of people whereby we attribute a defined set of characteristics to this group. Let’s take a closer look to better understand some of the stereotypes we’ve come across:

1.The elite businessman: He’s usually running a multimillion dollar corporation (but we never get to know the nature of his business) and he’s an honest, usually dignified man in his late 50s. His employees look up to him with respect and he owns a handful of cars, wears fancy suits to work and lives in a mansion. At home, he’s a different person altogether. His wife is the one who pulls his strings like a puppet, cuts him during conversations, keeps reminding him that he runs the office whilst she runs the home and he usually has little or no say in any decisions involving his children.

businessman
2.The socialite– She’s married to the elite businessman and dresses in nothing less than designer-wear with matching stilettos, exquisite jewellery and her face deserves to be on a magazine cover. She’s too busy to bother about petty issues like what’s for dinner since a) she has a social circle and the upkeep is tiresome and b) she runs an NGO. She reminds her family that she’s got too many things to take care of like going shopping and catching up on the latest gossip since image is everything. She hates the perfect son’s not-so-perfect-match and makes life a living hell for her.

ngo
3.The perfect son– He’s every woman’s Prince Charming only he’s a mama’s boy. He wishes for a wife who would worship him since he doesn’t want to end up like a whipped husband- an image that mortifies him since his daddy (despite his millions), is basically just that!

mamas boy
4.The spoilt daughter– She takes after her mommy only she’s way more obnoxious and has a problem with everyone. She usually settles for a mismatched guy and later ends up divorced or separated. Depending upon her mood, she can make things very uncomfortable for the perfect son’s not-so-perfect-match.

spoilt daughter
5.The naani/ daadi– She’s usually very close to the perfect son and dislikes the socialite. She’s the only one who understands why the perfect son want’s to find a girl who’s his exact opposite. Plus, she serves a dual purpose- she adds the element of emotional blackmail as and when the story demands it.

grandma
6.The perfect son’s not-so-perfect match– She’s a simple girl who was raised with a lot of pain and hardship since she belongs to a middle-class family. She almost always wears a duppatta over her head before stepping out of her house. She’s a smart cookie- educated and works hard to provide a stable living for her family now that she’s all grown up. She has no dreams of her own but only wants the best for her family- her parents, siblings, etc.

dupatta
7.The parents of the not-so-perfect match– They are a middle class couple who constantly worry about how they will manage to accumulate enough jahez for their daughters. The father earns just enough for them to afford sabzi on a daily basis and meat only once in a while.

parents
8.The siblings of the not-so-perfect-match– They are there just to remind us that there are multiple mouths to feed thus the sabzi vs meat ratio. They have very little to add to the story, but every now and then, they might have a marital issue that’s thrown in just for good measure.

siblings
9.The friend of the not-so-perfect-match– Since the siblings really don’t contribute much, the voice of reasoning is the responsibility of the friend(s).

friend
10.The home-wrecker– Ah, now this one’s interesting. She is either a family friend/ cousin of the perfect son and in that case, she’s a cross between the socialite and the spoilt daughter. Or, she is somehow related to the not-so-perfect-match and secretly envies her sheer luck and tries to get the perfect match for herself.

homewrecker
11.The secret admirer of the home-wrecker– This is a guy who is suffering from a huge inferiority complex and goes out of his way to help the home-wrecker get the perfect son at the expense of his own happiness.

loser man
12.The house-help– These are usually know-it-alls who eavesdrop and then serve as scene-fillers when the story isn’t moving forward.

househelp

These are some of the ones that came to my mind. You might recall them in various dramas like Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Shehr-e-Zaat, Muhabbat Subh Ka Sitaara Hai, etc. How many more can you add to the list?

Let’s get talking!

Let’s Hear It From The Director – Yalghaar And Its Making

Let's Hear It From The Director - Yalghaar And Its Making

Hassan Waqas Rana has been labelled as one of the best directors of the Pakistani cinema, after his blockbuster movies, the latest of which being Yalghaar, that is currently crowned as the king at the box office on Eid. The film itself is based on a true story of the 76 hours of successful military operation conducted in the Piochar region of Swat district. It features the courageous and patriotic officers and soldiers of our nation who continually risk their lives for our safety.

We have an interview of the man of the moment himself, speaking to The Nation about his experience with Yalghaar and the challenges it brought.

Q. Yalghaar is a story of patriotism and dedication of Pakistan army in the inferno of war against terrorism. Was directing a war film your goal?

A. Yes absolutely, it was a challenge because no one had attempted to make a serious war film in the subcontinent before and some had said that it cannot be done.

Q. Making war movies is not an easy task. It takes cast of hundreds and use of lot of equipment and modern techniques. How was your experience?

A. It was indeed a challenge and this challenge quadruples in essence if you are using live ammunition explosives and real war machines including gunship attack helicopters. Even though that it was challenging, tough and exasperating at times but once you get it right the feeling is almost like solving a mathematical riddle. It is strangely satisfying at so many levels.

Q. What difficulties did you face in making this movie?

A. Everything about this film was a challenge. Especially for my actors as they had to maintain their looks and their physical appearance true to the character for such a long period of time.

I was only working on Yalghaar but all of my actors are at the top of their game at the moment and were extremely busy. Shaan had started Arth in which he is playing a completely different role to what he is doing in Yalghaar, Humayun had started Mein Punjab Nahi Jaoon Gi, Bilal Ashraf had to go for Janaan and that was a completely different role for him to do then he MaashAllah got Rangreza in which he is playing the character of a rock star which is poles apart from the role of captain that he is playing in Yalghaar. Sana Bucha was doing multiple other projects, Adnan Siddiqui had to go for film Mom in which his appearance is completely different to the clean cut Commanding Officer that he is playing in Yalghaar. Gohar was playing the role of a musician in Rangreza. So yeah it was extremely challenging for all of them to come back to Yalghaar and pick it up from where they had left and start all over with the same intensity.

Let's Hear It From The Director - Yalghaar And Its Making

Q. What in your view is the most attractive thing about your film?

A. The battle sequences of the film. They are raw, gritty and as close to reality that you can get without being shot.

Q. How far was Pakistan army cooperative in helping to complete your film project?

A. It was an absolute impossibility to make this feature film without the support and help of the Army. I can’t really take names but these guys were as involved in the production as any one of us. The most beautiful thing about it was that, they would make us forget that they were real officers we actually started feeling as if they were the part of the crew.

Yalghaar has generated a total collection of 63 million in just three days. Did you believe this film will rule box-office with impressive numbers as compared to other Eid releases nationwide?

I knew Yalghaar was not an average film and believed it would perform on extremes either this or that way, but thanks to Almighty and the beautiful people of Pakistan it went towards the positive numbers that we see today.

Q. Which was the most difficult scene that you shot for Yalghaar from a director’s point of view?

The most interesting thing about Yalghaar is that every scene in the film came with its own challenge whether it was an infantry battle or a pitched battle of the SSG or the Aviation component of the film or even the romantic scenes. Each and every scene in the film presented its own set of challenges.

Let's Hear It From The Director - Yalghaar And Its Making

Q. The film was mostly shot on many locations, what were the locations?

A. We mostly shot in the northern areas – Tarbella, Mangla, Lahore, Pindi, Peshawar and some other places which I can’t really name here.

Q. Why are war movies popular right now?

A. War movies have always been popular with the audiences. There never was time in the cinema history when war movies were not the most anticipated or watched.

Q. What is next for Hassan Rana?

I am currently writing scripts for two international projects. One is a period piece and the other is dealing with a very interesting concept. I am also going to shoot another feature film by the end of the year and then I am diving straight into “Waar-2”.

Lessons Learnt From Morning Shows in 2016

All over the world, morning shows are conducted because the media of those countries use those morning shows as a way to educate their audience and the viewers who tune to such shows. In the rest of the world, these shows cater to all different age brackets & focus on different issues that different people face but when it comes to Pakistan, morning shows are a completely different story.

Morning shows in Pakistan have become famous for all the wrong reasons. If we look at the morning shows or talk shows of different countries, one thing that we all will find common between the hosts is the ‘education’, not only academic education but also an education based on the knowledge of the subject that they are conducting a show upon, but sadly, in Pakistan, the criteria to become a morning show host is completely different.

To become a morning show host in Pakistan, there are a few pre-requisites that you need to fulfill, which are:

– First, you need to be a woman.
– Second, you should be married, so that you can always wrap the entire show around marriage and its pros and cons, even in those shows where marriage is the last thing that is being discussed.
– Third, you need to have the ability to talk non-stop & nonsensical for hours & hours.
– Fourth, you don’t have to be educated, educated academically or even educated about the subject that you are going to conduct a show upon.
– Fifth, you need to have a body strength of an iron to wear heaviest of dresses in the wee hours of morning.
– Sixth, you need to be confidently stupid so that you can make blunders on a live show and still not care.
– Seventh, you need to have all the misapprehensions about yourself to believe that you are capable of conducting a morning show.
– Eighth, you need to be insensitive (badtameez) to insult general public on their faces, who come as an (paid or unpaid) audience on your show.
– Ninth, you need to have the energy to be able to dance on Bollywood songs in the morning as if it’s your chacha’s shadi.
– Tenth, you need to mistakenly believe in yourself that even after all this gibberish, people still love you!

Now, when the producers find these ‘qualities’, they hire those ladies & let them on the loose thinking they are capable of running a show. No one checks the quality of their shows, no one checks the content of their shows, no one is bothered about what the host is saying or doing, but all that they care about are the ratings that their shows are chipping in. If there is one thing that makes my belief stronger about the fact that the rating system of our country is flawed, it is these morning shows, who rejoice at the ratings they get, because honestly, no one has the patience or the courage to tune to this noise pollution in the early hours of the morning, so not sure what makes them believe they are getting the highest TRP’s.

1

Now that we have covered the ‘qualities’ that the producers search for in a morning show host, I will now speak about the lessons that the morning shows taught in the year of 2016 because even though it was just in passing that I caught the glimpse of these shows, all these hosts were on the loop about more or less the same topics as if they actually had nothing else to talk about!

1. Every Pakistani woman irrespective of her age should be Size 0:

I don’t remember how many times I have seen the same subject being discussed over & over again. In stead of ‘informing’ people about how they should lead a healthy lifestyle, our morning show hosts along with a handful of dietitians & nutritionists literally shove the idea of being thin down people’s throats as if those who are not size 0 are a lesser human beings. Also, God forbid if a host like Nida Yasir spots someone thickly built in her audience, she won’t stop making fun of their chubby cheeks or eating habits with an insulting tone to prove a point that the woman’s life if basically finished & she has no right to live!

5

2. Every Pakistani woman needs to go to parlors/clinics:

In every other show, we see a robot named Aliya Farooq with her machines who comes to every single show to flaunt the new machinery she has installed in her parlor/clinic, telling women that their only motive in life should be to visit her & get a facial treatment otherwise their life is doomed. Almost in every other morning show, we see different people showing different procedures on randomly picked ladies from the audience, without even considering if those procedures will be suitable for their skin type or not. Then they flaunt the before & after shots & I tell you, the difference is equal to a difference you see in your hands after a single hand-wash, ahem!!!

aliya-farooq

3. Every Pakistani woman needs a porcelain skin:

Another fixation our morning show hosts have is with a crystal clear skin where they show different todkas underlining the importance of having a spotless skin, where the host doesn’t forget to emphasize on the fact that every girl needs to have a clear skin especially before her family is expecting some guests for her rishta, yep, seriously! Every other host endorses the idea that if you are not blessed with a clean & spotless skin, you have no right to be alive because hey, who is going to look at your inner beauty, as everyone will be as shallow as these morning show hosts to judge you on the basis of your outer covering!

4. Every Pakistani woman should be fair:

While the entire goras of the world are investing so much of money on a daily basis on self-tanners or spray tans, our morning show hosts are instilling the idea in the viewers heads that they have to have a lighter skin tone by hook or by crook otherwise they won’t be deemed as beautiful. From procedures to lighter foundations to desi todkas, each & every aspect is conveyed with an intent of teaching women how they should look fair because that’s the only complexion that will earn them a bucket load of respect!

pizap-caaaom1417781420aaaa7551

5. Every Pakistani woman needs Botox & fillers in her life & then should know how to deny the rumors:

In every other morning show, we see celebrities whose faces have changed considerably over the years, like Fizza Ali, Sadia Imam, Mishi Khan, Nadia Hussain etc, but some blame their pregnancy & some point-blank refuse that they got their faces botched up in a pursuit of looking beautiful. In some of the shows, lip augmentation is showcased which the hosts promote saying so what if Allah has created you like that, you can always improve by being discontent with Allah’s creation & by letting your insecurities get the better of you!

6. Every Pakistani woman needs Oriental Foundation Stick in her life:

Yes, the importance of makeup is also very much emphasized on our morning shows, where in the beginning they show you some ladies from their audience, literally implying that they are looking like clowns with a bad makeup later to introduce their celebrity makeup artist guest, with Oriental Foundation Stick in his/her hands, trying to show that this is ‘har marz ki dawa’ & every single Pakistani woman should run & grab it ASAP! In stead of telling people that makeup is just an expression of yourself, it is just an art, they actually force you to believe that this is what you need in your life, otherwise you won’t score yourself a good rishta!!!

makeup

7. Every Pakistani woman needs hair extensions in her life:

The focus on outer beauty is being so emphasized upon in our morning shows that it feels that their only motive in life is to turn everyone into a clone & make them look artificial. Different sorts of tablets are promoted, different sorts of medicated products are promoted which ensure the hair growth, while completely hiding the fact that these sort of supplements affect a human body in worse way possible too. Hair extensions are so highly spoken about as if they are as necessary as having food in your life!

8. Playing hideous games is an expression of happiness & entertainment:

Yes, we all are well aware of the ‘games’ that the guests or even the audience are made to play to fill up the time of the show, which may as well include blowing a chewing gum while answering questions, adorning the bakras in Eid shows, putting a lipstick on each other or like shown below, brushing someone’s teeth!

6

9. Every woman belonging to the Media is a Super-Woman:

There won’t be a day when you won’t see either Ambar, Kiran, Nadia Hussain, Javeria, Binita & a dozen more who have all the time in their lives to be on the morning shows every single day, speaking about how super-womanly they are, where they won’t stop praising themselves for all the wonders they do & how the entire Pakistan is only running because of them being a part of it!

10. Every Pakistani woman should spy on her husband:

Yes, there won’t go a few days without a show where marital problems will be discussed or marriage on its own will be made fun of. A few hosts won’t stop discussing how oh-so amazing their married life is whereas the others won’t stop telling how they check their husband’s cellphones because they are insecure beings!

11. How exemplary newly wedded Media couples are:

Every couple in the media is the best couple on the face of the earth, while the others were just created by fluke & do not contribute towards the society. They make sure these ‘actors’ put up an act about how oh-so in love they are & how oh-so perfect their life is, fooling people to believe that things won’t be different when the cameras turn off!!!

4

12. How all the Media couples pro-create:

Every other day, they would invite the couples from the media who have had a child recently & then the details they will push them to discuss will be gruesome starting from their cravings to their hormones. Then they get another content idea that right after some time when those kids will turn 1 or 2, they will celebrate their birthdays.

bacha

Yes, these are the topics that you will only see being discussed & dissected time & again on our morning shows as if there is nothing more to life than this. Women already are so hard on themselves, to a point where every woman, every single day of her life feels insecure about herself, her body or her overall personality & then come these morning show hosts who are shallow to the core, who push these insecurities & complexes more & rub these non-issues or first world problems on everyone’s faces. It’s been such a long time that I have not seen a morning show which focused on empowering women. I have not seen a show which focused on telling woman that irrespective of any color, shape or size, no matter what, they are beautiful. I have not seen any show where the morning show host has taught women to be confident. I have not seen a show where a morning show host has told women that they need to be comfortable in their own skin. Woman are always so hard on themselves, they constantly judge their own-self, they constantly feel the need to improve, then we see these morning show hosts who have no personality whatsoever, take a seat in the morning & brain-feed women into believing that they will only be respected if they will look a certain way. In stead of breaking the standards & the norms that the society has set for women, our morning show hosts endorse those ideas because for them ‘looking good’ should be the only motive of a woman’s life.

I have time & again seen how these morning show hosts bring in the celebrities as an example & then tell the the regular women in their audience from all walks of life that they need to look like these celebrities, while completely missing the point that their job is to look good because they make a living out of it. Celebrities also make sure to announce how much they take care of themselves because let’s face it, they only have one particular thing to focus on in their lives. It is sickening, it is absolutely sickening how these morning show hosts put Celebrities & Regular women on the same pedestal & think they are being fair in their judgement. One fine day, I happened to watch a show in which Sadia Imam was invited to share her ‘beauty tips’ & she ended up saying ‘hum log apni skin aur baal bechtay hain, to hamain iska khayal rakhna zaroori hai’, yes, no exaggerations there, she said it, she herself endorsed the fact that Celebrities need to look good because they make money out of it, so what makes these morning show hosts believe that regular women can compete & should look up to celebrities as their role models & follow their footsteps as if they have nothing else or better for that matter, to do, in their lives?

We have time & again spoken against these morning shows & it is absolutely sad that even after getting the feedback from the social media, in stead of improving their content these morning show hosts continue to commit the same mistakes over & over again. They choose not to educate themselves to improve the standards of their show. It is ironic that where these hosts put women under scrutiny for not following the basic standards that have been set by the society for them, they do not put “””themselves””” under scrutiny to see if they are doing good or not? They do not reflect upon themselves if they are doing justice to the platform that they have or not? They do not think selflessly about the people they are so called ‘teaching’ the importance of these things in life. It is actually quite sad to see the constant reminders to the women that if they are not striving to look a certain way, they are failing miserably in their lives. I wish one fine day, I get to see a complete change in the format of these shows where every host talks about woman empowerment based on real deals & not superficial things like skin, hair, weight or fairness. These morning show hosts should live in their bubbles & leave their female audience alone because everyone has better things to do, everyone has different priorities in their lives & last but definitely not the least, each & every single woman is beautiful in her own beautiful way!!!

Lessons Learnt By Faryal Mehmood From Her Marriage

Here is what she said:

Lesser Work Bigger Stardom!

0

The industry has managed to progress at a decent pace in the last decade. We have got many “stars” in front of us and many of them have come out in the last five years or so. Now becoming a star is easier than it was years ago; thanks to social media and National Crush phenomenon; many actors and singers have managed to reach great heights without doing much work. So here is a list of stars who have shined without burning in the furnace of hard work:

Fawad Khan:

Lesser Work Bigger Stardom!

Is Fawad a brilliant actor? Yes! Does he know the craft he has invested himself in? Yes! Has he worked even half the amount of the stardom he has? No! Fawad Khan came from singing into acting and he was impressive from the very start. He did few dramas and I personally loved his acting in Khuda Ke Liye but it was Humsafar which made him an over night star. Many would say that he has done a lot of work and all; but did he? He has not done a single project in Pakistan since he was casted in Khoobsurat but he still rules the industry. And the reason behind it? The NATIONAL CRUSH phenomenon! He will be appearing in Maula Jutt 2 soon now and this will surely increase his following.

Momina Mustehsan:

Lesser Work Bigger Stardom!

Momina Mustehsan is another NATIONAL CRUSH! Don’t blame me for using the word again and again since you all know our nation has a lot of crushes; so here comes another one. She sang Afreen Afreen alongside the maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in Coke Studio season 9 and before people could listen to the full song; she was a star. Social media was filled with her pictures and now she has established herself in the music industry by being a part of cornetto pop rock, advertisement campaigns and two songs in Coke Studio season 10. One song has done such wonders for her which are difficult to achieve for some singers in their whole career.

Mawra Hocane:

Lesser Work Bigger Stardom!

Mawra just won the Star Of The Year Female award at the IPPA Awards. Why she won this award is a mystery in itself since I don’t remember her giving a super hit project this year. Yes Sammi was a good drama but it was good due to its story line and all other actors in the project; since Mawra’s work was not very impressive. To be honest Mawra is less of an industry star and more of an Instagram star. She is seen in new avatars and has achieved a great position in the industry through her social media management rather than working very hard for the kind of stardom she has achieved.

Bilal Abbas Khan:

Lesser Work Bigger Stardom!

He is good and has proved he can act. His work in O Rungreza is amazing too. But the kind of stardom he has reached is less appreciation for his work and more a mixture of social media presence and somewhat crushing factor. He has talent and a handsome face too and the talent may not get you to the place you deserve easily; a handsome and fair n lovely face can take you places in a short period of time. Bilal has also achieved greater fame as compared to his work in the industry.

Aima Baig:

Lesser Work Bigger Stardom!

Aima Baig has also achieved a lot in a relatively shorter period of time. She has done playback singing and was a part of three songs in Coke Studio season 10 and this happened in about an year’s time. She has a nice voice, can sing catchy tunes and has a pretty face. It won’t be very wrong to say that Aima was season 10’s Momina though I find her more talented than Momina. She also became a sensation on social media bringing her bigger stardom though she has not done a lot of work in the industry.

Kubra Khan:

Lesser Work Bigger Stardom!

It was a case of she came, she saw and she conquered for Kubra Khan. Despite being a newcomer in the industry Kubra is one of the top leading actresses these days. She is a part of many super hit projects back to back and will also be seen in Parwaaz Hai Junoon. Maybe the good choice of projects helped her but she became star in a very short period of time though she has not done a lot of work in the industry. She reached the place where many other actresses reached after trying for years.

So these are the stars who managed to get bigger stardom with relatively small amount of work in the industry. Some of them enjoy positions which even stars like Ahsan Khan have not reached yet despite of proving themselves over and over. Which other stars do you think can be a part of this list?
