After Nueplex protesters gathered in Lahore too to protest against Ali Zafar and sexual harassment. While the protesters chanted “Boycott Ali Zafar” outside Cinestar Lahore Kayseria’s creative director Waleed Zaman showed up there to watch the movie. A video soon started circulating where a protester asks Waleed why he is watching Teefa in Trouble and he replies “Because we support sexual harassment of women.” He said that on record not once not twice but three times and every time he raised his hands as he said so.

It has been revealed through the Mumbai Mirror, that Fawad Khan is all set to Romance with the Dhoom 2 girl, Katrina kaif in yet to be titled film. The film is to be directed by Aditya Dhar , it will be his debut. Movie is being produced by Karan Johar under Dharma productions.
The film will be shot in the north India and will be in a complete desi style. As according to the story both hero and heroine belong to Punjabi families and main story will revolve around them in a wedding function.
Its great to see Fawad Khan working under such famous banners one after another. Good Luck Fawad!
Ohkay so, this episode marked the ending of the drama Kathputli & now when it has ended & I look back at the entire journey, I am glad to say that I tuned to this drama which ended up giving us a quality entertainment with some good messages, heart warming moments & some really good characters.
This episode focused on subsiding the misunderstandings that made their way into the lives of Ahad & Mehru. Ahad thought that Mehru was still interested in Shiraz, that is why he gave her the right to decide her fate herself. I honestly feel that they showed us everything nicely & the ending didn’t seem rushed at all. It was actually quite generous on Ahad’s part to hand everything over to Mehru because very rarely we get to see such husbands in our dramas who give the freedom to their wives on such a level. It showed how over the period of time Ahad matured that he started understanding the intricacies better. Ahad knew that he did everything to make Mehru realize that he loves her, but when he felt & assumed that she still didn’t fall in love with him, he wasn’t hesitant in backtracking & decided to put a foot down.
Once again, in this entire scenario, I found Shiraz’s attitude & approach worst because once again, when he had the opportunity to explain things to Amna, he threatened her & hurried in speaking to his mother without even explaining things to her too. Also, when Shiraz learned that Amna must have told everything to Ahad, he should have spoken to Ahad the first thing, but anyways, I am glad that his part was done quickly & we moved onto Mehru & Ahad once again. Ahad listened to everything that Shiraz & Mehru spoke about & he then realized how wrong he was in his judgment. I respect Ahad even more for the fact that when Amna decided to badmouth Mehru in front of him, he took a stand for his wife & didn’t allow Amna to say a word as he knew that Mehru could be anything but unfaithful or disloyal. Anyways, It was good to see that Mehru got a chance to clear the misunderstandings & Ahad learned the truth easily.
Finally, Ehtashaam realized his mistakes & he not only apologized to Saira but wanted to make amends with Mehru too. I think it was a brilliant move on the writer’s part, that she gave such a transition to Ehstashaam’s character where he himself had an awakening after suffering on his own, because he was the sort of a person who would never had listened to anyone else. It was good to see Ahad & Mehru happy together but what added more charm to their relationship was Ahad’s attempt of bringing all the happiness to Mehru, due to which he decided to take her to see her family. Everyone had a closure & a good one at that, which made this journey complete in a very beautiful way.
I must say, I am really glad that the director kept the approach simple, just in line with the writer’s approach. Just like the screenplay of Kathputli was simple & beautiful, the direction of this drama was to the point too. I am so glad that things were not dragged as I was dreading them to be & this drama ended at the 19th episode, which seems like a fair & justified number. I will thank the writer for giving us beautiful characters like Mehru, Ahad & Saira, these three were my favorite characters & the actors Sanam Chaudhry, Farhan Ahmed Malhi & the actress who played the role of Saira did justice to these amazing characters. I loved seeing the transition Ahad’s father went through, it emphasized on the fact that love, care & attention can change a hard hearted person, irrespective of his age. Mehru did made a mistake by lying to her family in the beginning but that lie changed her life for the best, so her mistake seemed justified because like her brother said, it is because of men like him that girls are forced to resort to such tactics. I loved the bond that Mehru & Ahad shared, also, it would have been very easy for the writer to turn Mehru into a bechari, considering how her life turned upside down & how she came from such a background where she wasn’t even allowed to breathe without seeking permission for it, but the writer turned Mehru into a far more stronger individual who was fighting her battles alone. Even though Mehru got a safety net in the form of Ahad, she never once relied on him & maintained her stance & had a voice. I loved seeing Mehru’s journey where she became stronger after becoming a victim of circumstances & misunderstandings. We need more such to-the-point dramas, that have decent messages to their credit & end at the right time without any dragging. I will once again thank Faiza Iftikhar, Atif Rathore, Sanam Chaudhry & Farhan Ahmed Malhi for giving their best shot in their own accord & giving us such a nicely packaged drama that had everything. Ohkay so, a lot of twists & turns were introduced in this episode of Kathputli, but I am not sure if they were necessary because the characters have stopped making sense & that happens to my biggest peeve while watching any drama. Everytime I watch Gohar Mumtaz & his wife, I am always left wondering how good it would have been if they were not apart of this drama or their coverage was limited because they are not doing anything good in the story anyways. Also, I don’t think it is fair to Farhan Ahmed Malhi that his face is not a part of this title while still being the main lead, whereas Gohar & his wife, despite being supporting characters are seen embracing it as if they had a very important role up their sleeves.
Honestly speaking, I feel Ahad & Amna are justified in making assumptions especially after learning the truth that Shiraz & Mehru were related before. Amna did know about the fact that Shiraz & Mehru were cousins but she was justified in feeling cheated because of the way Shiraz was keeping things from her. On the other hand, Ahad’s reaction was natural, because he was learning things about his wife from a stranger & it was imperative that he had to be shocked.
Mehru & Shiraz returned & where they should not have wasted a single second in explaining things to their spouses about their little trip, they ended up beating around the bush, which was so nonsensical. I found it a very poor & forced execution of the twist to drag things where Mehru & Shiraz didn’t even bother about Amna & Ahad’s feelings while completely missing the point that they owed their spouses an explanation. Mehru however did try but by then Ahad was not in a mood to listen to his wife which I felt was Ahad’s mistake. I don’t really understand when Mehru finally decided to tell Ahad the truth, why didn’t she start off by talking about her mother because that would have given Ahad some perspective & enough patience to listen to her entire confession while giving her a benefit of the doubt. Mehru started telling Ahad the tale of her previous engagement with Shiraz which was uncalled for. Yes, she wanted to come clean & she wanted to be honest, but why did she speak about the relationship that didn’t exist anymore first & not about her mother? While watching that scene, I kept on wondering how long it would have taken Mehru to blurt the truth about her mother’s health? Where I did feel that Ahad should have listened to his wife, I also felt that he was pushed to the limit because he already saw that Mehru was lying to him before this adventure too, so he had no courage left inside to sit through that conversation.
On Shiraz & Amna’s front, things were just as bad but what made things ugly was Shiraz’s attitude. On one hand Shiraz said he was protecting Mehru, but on the other he was keeping Amna in the dark & not only that, he was being insensitive towards her feelings, so how did he expect his wife to react when he was not in a mood to tell her the truth? All this while when Shiraz was questioning Amna about why she checked his phone, I was getting irritated because he could have used that time in explaining things to her in order to calm her down & to make her understand that she was doubting Mehru for no good reason. I don’t understand how long it would have taken Shiraz to explain it to Amna that the relative of his who was hospitalized was none other than Mehru’s mother. Shiraz ended up threatening Amna with a divorce, only because he failed to explained everything to her while she was right in demanding an explaination for his weird behavior. Shiraz said he didn’t want to do anything to cause a dent in Ahad & Mehru’s life, so why was he being so unreasonable? Honestly speaking, I thought both Shiraz & Mehru will be wise enough to understand that hiding things would only cause troubles for them but they chose to waste time in speaking on the lines of riddles, without even bothering to solve them!!!
Well it was good that Saira found out the truth about her & Ehtashaam’s medical report but what seemed even better was that Saira chose to confront her husband for all the lies that he had told. It was actually quite amusing that the toughest looking guy like Ehtashaam had no guts to even stand a single confrontation & it took such a toll on him that he ended up getting paralyzed. I think this should be the beginning of the wrap up where Ehtashaam will realize his mistakes after getting such a harsh reality check & I hope the way the director has intelligently dealt with the script so far, he won’t drag things further & will curb the misunderstanding between Ahad & Mehru ASAP.
Overall, this episode was good. The drama has remained quite interesting so far, so I hope it ends on the similar note too. It is actually quite amazing that the writer has given us so many heart warming moments through Mehru & Ahad. It was actually sad to see Ahad suffering but I hope Mehru gets a chance to explain herself before it is too late. Sanam Chaudhry & Farhan Ahmed Malhi have made this drama a very interesting watch, not only the characters that they are playing are good but their acting is on-point too & I commend them for that. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Kathputli.
Ohkay so, the last three episodes of Kathputli were interesting but I am not sure if that can be said about the twists & turns that they have brought in. I know in dramas like these, they do need some sort of chaos to extend the story further but yes, if after this scenario, the characters will emerge out to be stronger & better then I most certainly have no issues but if this is only being done to drag the drama then I am not sure what to feel about it. Now I am looking forward to see how each & everyone will bounce back from the tough times & pick up the pieces.
Mehru & Shiraz came across each other & that’s when Mehru’s life took a turn. Mehru & Ahad pretty much got comfortable with each other & they both actually started developing feelings for each other because Mehru saw how in the darkest of times, it was Ahad who without even knowing her, but only because she was his wife, took care of her. Similarly, Ahad saw that without expecting anything in return, Mehru not only ended up supporting him emotionally but she treated his father like hers & it is only because of her continuous efforts that his father came out of depression & is very much at a happy place with Ahad & Mehru around. Ahad fell in love because he got a closer look into Mehru’s personality & nature & he saw that she is a gem of a person, that is why he finally confessed his feelings & it was quite sweet. Even though this is exactly what Mehru wanted to hear & this is exactly what she feels about him too, she just missed an opportunity to confess her love for her husband Ahad & that was the first mistake that Mehru made.
Finally, Merhu came across Shiraz because Amna invited them for dinner & that’s when Shiraz became curious to find out the truth about everything related to Mehru & that’s when he started pestering her to meet him. I think that was another mistake that Mehru made because in stead of going out of the way to meet him, she could’ve just spoken to him on the phone & had explained everything to him. Even though I was dreading that now Shiraz will play the villain, I was pleasantly surprised to see him being understanding & respectful towards Mehru enough that he decided to not do anything that could cause a dent in her relationship with her husband.
Then came the time when Shiraz had to inform to Mehru that her mother had a heart attack. Yes, I do understand his concerns but I am not sure if I can say that Shiraz is a mature guy because he tackled the entire situation poorly. Also, Shiraz kept on implying that Mehru’s mother was about to die so she should meet her, like seriously? People have heart attacks & after a few months of recovery & by being cautious about their health, they pretty much lead a normal life! Anyways, Shiraz decided that he will play the hero & will reunite Mehru with her mother which once again was another mistake that he committed.
If Shiraz really really wanted to help Mehru, he could’ve spoken to Ahad first because now when Shiraz has met him & his father, he knows that they take care of Mehru & hold her close to their hearts. If Shiraz had introduced himself to Ahad as Mehru’s cousin & had told him in person that Mehru’s mother wasn’t doing well, I am sure even before Shiraz, it would’ve been Ahad who would’ve taken her to Lahore to see her mother. The third & the biggest mistake that Mehru committed was that she ended up lying to Ahad & not just any lie, she literally fabricated an entire story that too using Amna’s name, who’s not only her neighbor but is someone who has no hesitation in showing up at Mehru’s doorstep at any time of the day, so I am not sure what made Mehru think that like all the other days, Amna won’t go to Mehru’s house oblivious of her absence to meet her & might as well bump into Ahad only to find out that that Shiraz & Mehru were lying?
It did seem that Mehru learned her lesson a hard way but after everything that she has done, I am not sure if that can be said about her anymore because after sharing a space with Ahad, getting to know him personally & even knowing that he loves her, what made Mehru think that he won’t understand her feelings & wouldn’t allow her to meet her mother? Ahad’s father had a close call & that’s when Mehru did everything to help him recover properly, so why would’ve Ahad stopped her from meeting her mother? I can understand that Mehru was eager to meet her mother & she couldn’t think straight but at least Shiraz should’ve tackled the entire situation properly & ohkay, let’s say that they didn’t want to get Ahad involved, then at least Shiraz could’ve taken Amna into confidence because if he has promised that he will now respect Mehru’s decision, then what was there to hide? Another mistake that Shiraz made was leaving his mobile phone behind, which is like a Pandora box of Shiraz’s secrets & that’s when Amna found out everything about it. I know even though Mehru is not guilty of anything, but I see Amna & Ahad’s reactions justified because they are oblivious of everything & when someone is kept in the dark, that’s exactly how one reacts!
I feel all these twists & turns were only added to give Mr. & Mrs. Gohar Mumtaz some coverage in the drama because honestly speaking, without them, the entire drama was doing just so so so well. They could’ve just sticked to Mehru & Ahad’s relationship & some severe punishments for Ehtasham to realize that he committed a mistake, then he could’ve apologized to both Ahad & Mehru & they all would’ve lived a very happy life & that’s about it. I feel they not only added these twists & turns forcefully but didn’t do justice to them as well because another loophole in the direction that I feel was Sahir’s call to Ahad after spotting Mehru in Lahore with someone. Sahir said he ‘assumed’ that Mehru was with Ahad so why didn’t he approach them immediately? Like if anyone will see his best friend’s wife & assume that his best friend was there with his wife, then in stead of calling him to confirm, he will immediately walk up to them to meet them, isn’t it?
Anyways, on Ehtashaam’s front, with each passing episode, my detest for him gets a notch higher. It is so obvious that it isn’t Saira who is problematic, but he chose to put the blame on her to rub his bruised ego. Ehtashaam did everything in the name of religion but sadly, he doesn’t know that he has misinterpreted the religion to suit his needs, only so that the power & the authority that he has garnered over the period of time doesn’t slip out of his hands. I am sure Saira is the kind of a person who would’ve stood by his side but he chose to hurt her even more by lying to her about something she most certainly is not responsible for. I so hope Ehtashaam faces the severe consequences for all the lies that he has told till date & not only that, I would want everyone to never forgive him for playing with their lives & literally ruining them!
Overall, these episodes were really good but it’s just that the mistakes that Mehru made & the preview of the next episode that ticked me off. I so wish Mehru explains everything to Ahad before drifting apart even more. Also, they showed that Shiraz will be threatening Amna with divorce which I don’t see a reason for, like seriously, at one hand you’ve promised Mehru that you will not do anything to cause her distress & on the other, in stead of explaining things to your wife, you’e threatening her with divorce, so it is imperative that Amna will develop a strong sense of hatred for Mehru because she will blame her for the fact that it is because of Mehru that Shiraz is doing everything! I feel that the entire coverage that Shiraz & Amna are getting is unjustified. Anyways, the scene between Zeenat & Mehru was done nicely & it was quite emotional. I loved that Zeenat advised Mehru to never lie again but sadly, this is what Mehru has done & not sure how many lies she will keep on fabricating in order to hide the fact that she went to meet her mother that too with Shiraz. I hope she comes clean before it is too late. Let’s see what they have in store for us. The direction, the pace & the production value of this project is really really good. I also like the way all the actors have acted their characters out, they have kept things minimal & simple, but they strike a chord. Even though I have said it before, I will say it again that Sanam Chaudhry is one fine actress. She can literally carry an entire drama on her shoulders because of her phenomenal acting. I hope to see her in some super-hit drama serial because she is capable of pulling it off as a protagonist. Anyways, please share your thoughts about these last 3 episode of Kathputli.
Ohkay so, these past two episodes of Kathputli were thoroughly enjoyable. I am glad that even though a few of the things don’t make much sense & have been coaxed, the rest of it is interesting enough to make the episodes a good watch. This drama sends out a lot of good messages & has been tackled decently by the director. I do however feel that a few scenes & the coverage of some of the characters could’ve been omitted because it doesn’t really add much to the story but other than that, everything in this drama is working for me.
It is absolutely heart warming how Mehru has not only sticked with her decision of taking care of Ahad’s father, but she has also accepted him as her own father too because everything that she does for him comes straight from her heart. Mehru didn’t mind what Ahad said in agitation because she knew that Ahad was quite tensed about his father, therefore she decided to ignore what he said. This is what I love about Mehru’s character & personality the most, she is not a mazloom aurat & she most certainly is defensive enough to take a stand for herself when she sees that she is being mistreated, but when the situation arises, she lets go of a lot of things as she understands the complexity & intricacy of the situation, which makes her a very strong woman mentally. Quite conveniently, Mehru could’ve blown things out of proportion & she could’ve made a fuss about Ahad being rude or she could’ve blamed Ahad’s father for being rigid, but she didn’t do any of that as she knew that it was just a misunderstanding which can be subsided, but what was more important at that point was to keep things normal & that’s what a wise person would also do.
I really like how that characters are evolving in this drama. Yes, there are a few characters who’re stuck in a rut & choose not to budge, but the characters that make this drama worthwhile are the one’s that are evolving for all the right reasons. Ahad’s father was quite bitter & negative & didn’t leave a good first impression, but he depicts how a little bit of love, care & attention changes someone’s heart & personality completely. Ahad’s father; who used to be such a rigid person has now turned out to be someone who not only appreciates what Ahad & Mehru do for him, but has become quite understanding in the matters concerning them, where he encourages them to spend time together. I really liked how Ahad’s father chose to be a bigger person & admit his mistakes because he saw how Ahad was being harsh on Mehru & how Mehru was tolerating everything silently.
The way Ahad dealt with the entire situation was actually quite sweet. I love how all these characters are shown to be so accommodating & easy going that they don’t mind accepting when they are at fault. The moment Ahad heard the truth from his father, he realized that he was not wrong in judging Mehru, he also went overboard in holding her responsible for everything without thinking things through, that is why he chose to gift her some flowers, to break the ice & start afresh. We hardly get to see such characters who extend such gestures towards their spouses to make things right & we ‘never’ get to see such husbands who go out of the way to make their ‘wives’ happy. What Ahad did was actually quite sweet where he wanted to make things right & also appreciate Mehru for all the things that she was doing.
I thoroughly enjoy seeing the bonding that Ahad, Ahad’s Father & Mehru share with each other, it’s like all of a sudden, they have become one happy family that understands each other & believes in empowering each other emotionally. I loved everything that Mehru said to Ahad about how she won’t allow anyone to mistreat her anymore. Going by the circumstances Mehru went through & seeing how she was always oppressed by her brothers, the writer could’ve conveniently used those things to turn Mehru into a bechari who chose to accept mistreatment & oppression as her fate, but Faiza Iftikhar gave us something entirely different by showing us a girl who learned how to protect herself using all her bitter experiences as an example & who chose to put her respect ahead of everything else. Very easily, Mehru could’ve made herself understand that this is what life was going to offer to her but it is amazing how even though things became easier for her after she got married to Ahad, Mehru chose not to compromise on her pride, dignity & respect. Mehru has clearly told Ahad that she wants to be respected because she respects her self & she doesn’t want mistreatment because she has endured that enough already. I like how Ahad also understands Mehru & he has made a promise that he won’t do anything that will upset her. For me, that is something absolutely beautiful!!!
Well, Umair must be doing a victory dance because his attempts of causing a rift between Saira & Ehtasham didn’t go to waste. I find it amusing how Umair thinks he’s a savior & Saira needs his back. Saira is another beautiful & strong character & her politeness & honesty are her strengths, so to see Umair moving around like a headless chicken worrying about his sister is completely unjustified & unnecessary. Saira clearly told Umair how things roll differently in Ehtashaam’s house, so it is actually quite annoying that in stead of understanding, Umair is causing more troubles for Saira. I totally feel that Saira is mentally & emotionally very strong & she most certainly knows how to deal with her own baggage her way, but the interference of Umair is taking that away from her, which is definitely not needed. Umair at one hand tries to portray that he cares about Saira a lot but on the other hand, he himself fails to understand that everything he says or does doesn’t help Saira at all. Saira on her own is a very strong girl & she doesn’t need an intruder like Umair to fight her battles for her, so I wish Umair understands his position & stop being a pain for Saira. I most certainly believe that the character of Umair has been given unnecessary coverage in this drama & his presence doesn’t really work for me at all. He is coming across as a male version of ‘phappay kutni’ & that doesn’t suit a guy of that age at all because guys don’t really get into nitty gritty of their sisters’ personal lives, so his concerns are forced & unjustified!!!
Ehtashaam is still as arrogant as he is & once again, I will blame Zeenat for that. Every single time I see Zeenat’s character blurting out things in Ehtashaam’s favor where she indirectly tells Saira to accept his mistreatment as her fate, I feel like throwing my TV out of the window. She is so unreasonable & her fear & oppression is self imposed. Zeenat needs to understand that she is a mother & she can control everything, but she chooses to be come a chicken in front of Ehtashaam, that is why Ehtashaam has turned out to be this way & he gets away with everything. All the things Zeenat said to Saira about accepting Ehtashaam’s attitude & nature without questioning him were so bizarre. I wish the character of Zeenat evolves too. Zeenat has lost her own daughter because of Ehtashaam & it is actually quite infuriating that despite knowing about the reality & in stead of confronting Ehtashaam, she is choosing to give him leeway again & again by overlooking his past & present mistakes. Looks like Zeenat will happily lose Saira too but she will choose not to confront Ehtashaam for his irrationality!!!
Amna’s interest in Mehru’s life is another thing that has been coaxed, also, as if Amna wasn’t enough that even Shiraz has become fixated with his neighbors. I would hate to see things becoming ugly & stressful between Ahad & Mehru because after a lot of suffering, they both have found their comfort zones & they are now at a happy place together, where Ahad has already fallen in love with Mehru & Mehru is started to warm up to him, but seems like Shiraz won’t be able to contain himself & he will intrude in Mehru’s life without her consent. I hope to see Mehru & Ahad dealing with Mehru’s past together as a team that too with maturity because that is what is needed. I really hope that Ahad doesn’t back out in a hope to unite Mehru & Shiraz.
Overall, I really really enjoyed watching the last two episodes of Kathputli. There were so many moments that were heart-warming like Mehru & Ahad’s father having a heart-to-heart conversation, also like Ahad giving flowers to Mehru & promising to never hurt her again. There were a few cringe-worthy things that happened too like Saira getting slapped without a reason because that thing could have been & should have been avoided. Another cringe-worthy thing, character & actor in this drama is Umair, his presence is so not required & the acting of the actor make things equally worse. I really really like how the writer has written the characters of Mehru, Ahad, Ahad’s father & Saira, they make this drama really interesting to watch. Sanam Chaudhry is such a brilliant actress & I love how her eyes speak. Farhan Ahmed Malhi has done a brilliant job as Ahad too & I really like the chemistry & the element of respect between the characters of Mehru & Ahad. Shiraz & Amna are also just a couple of fillers who are going to be used to drag the drama but I wish the director doesn’t rely much on them because they’re not appealing enough. Anyways, please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Kathputli.

Ohkay so, this episode was decent but it focused more on the side characters. I feel if the side characters get more coverage, then things become a lot more repetitive, which doesn’t do any good to the pace or the purpose of the drama.
Mehru has started taking care of Ahad’s father in such a way that she has compelled him to become more respectful towards her. Even though Ahad’s father does not admit it in front of Mehru or Ahad, in his heart he knows that Mehru is not only different to Mehwish, but she is far better than her as well. Despite getting married to Ahad in such dire situation, on the basis of humanity, Mehru has started respecting not only Ahad but his father too. However, it would have been better if they had shown that along with the change of heart, Ahad’s father had a change of attitude towards Mehru too because the way he speaks to her still feels that he is demeaning her, which isn’t a good thing to watch.
Zeenat & her concerns for her daughter have become totally repetitive. Yes, we get it, she regrets what she did with her daughter & there’s nothing more to it & there can’t be because what she speaks about every single time is the same thing over & over again. She is completely responsible for how Mehru’s life shaped up & she is also responsible for giving Ehtashaam the leeway & so much of an authority to rule over Mehru’s life. Now all she can do is cry because there’s nothing else that can be done & we won’t be sympathizing with her on her repetitive dialogues every time!
I find the problems between Saira & Ehtashaam a bit forced. Saira is such a person who believes in reasoning & that is why in the initial stages of her marriage we saw how she used to engage in a conversation with Ehtashaam leaving him speechless because she made sense & also because she had an idea of how she should be tackling her husband as she understood his nature, so to see Saira doing something despite knowing that her husband won’t approve of it wasn’t a wise choice. Yes, she wanted to go to her mother’s place which was her right, but then she could’ve done that after having a conversation with Ehtashaam because she knows how to convince him. I feel just because Umair has made an entry, things have to get rough between Ehtashaam & Saira so that Umair gets a fair bit of coverage too, even though he has nothing to do with what happened between both of them right now. Also, Saira’s character has made a shift, she is still the same with her mother in law, but she has suddenly changed her behavior with her husband, which definitely is unlike her & is making everything look a bit forced. Also, I don’t think after knowing her husband’s nature in & out & after being well aware of what he did to his own sister Mehru, Saira would be so careless or immature to get candid with Umair just like that!
Finally, Shiraz has made an entry again but this time with his wife Amna. Shiraz & Amna are Mehru & Ahad’s neighbors & I don’t know what sort of a neighbor Shiraz will be, but for now, Amna is quite a nosy neighbor who asks a bit too many questions & is taking a bit too much interest in Mehru’s life.
Mehru’s father in law passed out because of his BP issues & very conveniently Ahad blamed Mehru for it. I don’t think Ahad’s behavior with Mehru was justified that too after he knows how difficult & rude his father is. Ahad’s concerns before bringing his father to their home were genuine as it looked like he was well aware of how rigid his father can be & how he was capable of giving Mehru a hard time, so despite knowing everything, his cold attitude with Mehru was uncalled for. Also, I know Ahad’s father had a hard time because of Mehwish, but it’s no fun seeing him crying buckets over the same thing time & again because now everything related to him is taking a toll on Mehru & she doesn’t deserve that!
Overall, this episode was fairly decent but I feel the sudden shift in the characters has been made only to stretch things & we all know when things get stretched, dramas get dragged too. Even though I didn’t have much expectations from Gohar Mumtaz’s wife Anum considering it being her first project, but I most certainly didn’t expect her acting to be this bad. Her body language, her hunched shoulders & her stammering clearly showed her lack of confidence as an actor & for that reason, I believe the director could’ve easily chosen someone else for this job. I think the drama is at such a stage where things will become quite slow & repetitive & every single episode won’t be giving us much to talk about, therefore I have decided that I will review Kathputli fortnightly, at least that way we will have enough content to discuss for sure. Ohkay so, it is good to see that things are moving forward in Kathputli. Even though in the initial stages of the drama, it looked like it was going to be a typical story but I like how every episode takes the story in such a direction which we couldn’t predict beforehand.
Ahad finally brought his father to his & Mehru’s home. At least, Ahad wasn’t oblivious of how his father was going to treat Mehru & what he was capable of doing & that is why it was good to see him being extra cautious & worried about what could potentially happen. Ahad’s father has become quite bitter after what he has gone through with his wife passing away & his son abandoning him, but at least it is good that he now has Ahad & Mehru who’re there to look after him. It didn’t take him long to change his perspective about Mehru, which was a surprise & definitely pleasant at that. I thought he was actually going to give Mehru a very very hard time but that didn’t happen. I liked how he reflected on the past & realized how different sharing a space with Ahad & Mehru was. It is good to know that Ahad has finally gotten a chance to take care of his father; who himself is guilt stricken for how harshly he treated his wife her entire life. Sadly, Ahad couldn’t do much for his mother but it is good to see that he is doing everything for his father & not only that, he also has Mehru’s support & understanding too.
What I liked the most about Mehru’s approach was that she didn’t try to push herself in the matters concerning Ahad & his father. She did what she could do to help her father in law but didn’t go hard on herself where she put everything aside, curbed every other responsibility that she had in a hope to impress her father in law. I liked how she continued doing her chores like a routine without worrying much about what Ahad’s father must be thinking about her. The thing that I liked the most was that it was Mehru’s attitude & her conduct that automatically drew Ahad’s father towards her & forced him to realize that she was definitely different & better than Mehwish & that is why he immediately accepted her & told Ahad to be comfortable as well.
I most certainly believe that Saira’s sisterly brother was so not needed in this drama. The way they both spoke on the phone made me believe that Umair will only talk about their past & they will discuss how they used to have a great time in their childhood but the way he kept on prying into Saira’s personal life & interrogated her like an agony aunt was so unpleasant. If Umair feels Saira’s not happy with Ehtashaam then he has all the more reasons to stay away from her life because he should be mature enough to know that he can cause more problems between Saira & her husband with such a nosy attitude & also, what was he trying to imply or instigate by telling Saira’s mother that she was unhappy, like does he want her to leave her husband’s home or what? I would actually hate to see Saira suffering because of Umair, even though Ehtashaam is no exception but at least, she is trying her level best to keep her husband happy so Sister Umair should let her be. Umair’s concerns for Saira were so not needed & I would hate to see him getting more coverage than required.
I so want to feel Zeenat’s pain but she makes sure to say such a thing every single time that makes me dislike her character even more. I know she misses Mehru & feels for her but I have never heard her pray for her daughter’s safety. This time around Zeenat wished that Mehru had died so that Zeenat could live in peace, like what sort of a mother is she? I think she should be ashamed of herself for not being strong enough to protect Mehru herself & also for the fact that she gave Ehtashaam & Hassam all the right to run the course of Mehru’s life. Every time I find myself cringing from hearing Zeenat’s thoughts, Saira comes in like a breath of fresh air who is not only hopeful but optimistic about the fact that Mehru must be doing something amazing with her life. Also, Zeenat is waiting for the day when Ehtshaam will forgive Mehru so that she’d be able to meet her daughter, whereas Zeenat should take a stand for her only daughter, show Ehtshaam his right place & order him to bring his sister home. Zeenat is also completely responsible for what Ehtashaam has done with Mehru & it is actually bizarre of her to be completely alright with the fact that her only daughter is fighting her battles alone, in a hope that someday Ehtashaam will forgive her & then Mehru will be allowed to come back!!! I feel Zeenat on her own has turned herself into a bechari whereas being a mother she definitely can take charge of how things roll in her household & can easily deprive Ehtashaam of the power he has attained!!!
Overall, this episode was good too. Once again, I enjoyed the interaction between Mehru & Ahad. I really like how Mehru speaks with Ahad in an accusatory tone, there’s something quite amusing about it & makes their scenes fun to watch. I loved how Mehru taunted Ahad about obligatory prayers & Ahad ended up listening to her despite getting annoyed. I must say, Umair is giving quite a complex to all the girls out there who have sparse eyebrows, I mean seriously, I couldn’t concentrate on anything else when he was on the screen, lol! Anyways, the preview of the next episode suggested that Saira will be forced to leave Ehtashaam & things won’t be smooth between Mehru & her father in law as well. I just hope that Ahad’s father stops being a party-pooper & respects & appreciates the fact that in this day & age, he has a son who is taking care of him & has a daughter-in-law who is so rooted & decent. The promos of Kathputli caught my eye primarily because of the real-life couple, Goher Mumtaz and Anam Ahmed. Goher Mumtaz made his debut with Tanhai and he was later seen in drama serials like Neelam Kinaray and Uff Yeh Muhabbat. His gorgeous wife, Anam Ahmed will be making her debut with HumTV’s Kathputliand the couple will be seen together.
Written by Faiza Iftikhar, directed by Fahim Burney, produced by Momina Duraid under MD Productions, drama serial Kathputli is expected to go on air on 11 June 2016.
According to Brandsynario, Anum plays the role of an innocent girl who falls in love with Gohar but no points for guessing that their relationship faces some obstacles.
The rest of the cast includes Sanam Chaudhry, Farhan Ahmed Malhi, Samina Ahmad, Farah Nadeem and Shaheen Khan.
Anam is excited about her debut. “MD Production -Fahim Burney’s production house has been insisting that I act for them in the past year. But I had different priorities at the time. I was completing my studies and waiting for the right time to make my debut. Of course, working with Gohar felt like the most natural and comfortable way to begin.”
Speaking to Dawn Images, Anam said that this drama was a huge learning experience. She also spoke highly of the entire team. “I’m blessed to work with lovely co-actors, director and production team who treated me like their very own. At the end of it, we became more like a family than anything else.”
Ohkay so, honestly speaking this drama has exceeded my expectations as it is turning out to be a very good watch. Even though in the initial stages of the drama, it looked like it was going to be a story that will rely heavily on the ‘bechari aurat’ factor, I am so glad that hasn’t turned out to be a case. All the characters are quite different and their personalities set them apart from all those characters that we might have seen in the past in such dramas that revolved around the similar themes.
Ahad went to Karachi & going by what he told Zaid, even he could deduce that Mehru has become quite special for Ahad, because of which he took a stand & fought for her. Right now, Mehru & Ahad, both are not ready to accept that they have grown into this relationship & they both mean something to one another but at least, it is good to see that they are taking their responsibilities seriously & they don’t mind lending a shoulder to each other to cry on when things get emotionally upsetting for them. Ahad’s concern about Mehru being alone while he was away was quite admirable. Even though Mehru tried to put up a facade that she was doing alright without him but the moment she found out that Ahad will keep on going away due to his job demand made her anxious, which was enough for Ahad to know that she wasn’t as comfortable as she was posing to be. I must say, I really really like the way Ahad & Mehru’s relationship is building up & also the way they both are dealing with each other because it looks like they have become such friends who can rely on each other emotionally & don’t mind going out of the way for one another.
Ahad met his father at an old age home & learned the truth about everything that transpired after he left his parent’s house. His mother passed away & Ahsan & Mehwish sent their father in an old age home to save themselves from fulfilling the responsibilities that they’d have towards him. Ahad finally convinced his father that he should come with him to Islamabad but he was concerned that his father will not only give a hard time to Mehru, but he will also taunt her & judge her character, which Ahad knew Mehru most certainly didn’t deserve, which was also quite admirable & mature of Ahad to be honestly admitting the truth about his father. It was good to see some changes in Ahad’s father’s perspective where he recalled about all the things he used to say to Ahad. Ahad might not have gotten a chance to take care of his mother, but at least he has his father to care of & not only that, he has a very mature & wise partner as Mehru who is ready to help him as well. Mehru’s concern about Ahad’s parents melted his heart & made him realize that she is a selfless & good human being who was ready to help him & go through the pain of dealing with his father who can be difficult at times. I am sure when Ahad will see Mehru taking care of his father, he will realize that she is someone who he should never let go of.
It is good to see that at least there’s someone who can silence Ehtashaam & force him to do some thinking & that is Saira. Saira is doing everything she can to make Ehtashaam realize that he is wrong & his decisions are affecting his mother’s health too. Zeenat finally realized that she wasn’t what a mother is supposed to be when it came to Mehru as she was too busy lecturing her to follow the instructions & abide by the rules that her brothers have set for her. It is good that things changed in Mehru’s life & she got away from that dull & depressed surrounding where she wasn’t even allowed to breathe freely. Mehru is living the life that she imagined that too on her own terms & conditions which actually is a blessing in disguise for her. Well, the new entry Saira’s cousin will only come in her life to create problems between her & Ehtashaam. I hope things won’t be stretched & the focus will be kept on how Saira will be trying to change Ehtashaam’s mentality because that’s what’s needed the most.
Overall, this episode was really interesting & I really liked the conversations that Ahad & Mehru shared whether it was about Ahad telling Mehru to keep the doors locked or whether it was Mehru telling Ahad how he shouldn’t ignore his father & his needs. I am sure Ahad’s father will give Mehru a hard time but eventually he will also learn the truth about her which will change his perspective about her. The preview of the next episode suggested that Shiraz will become Mehru & Ahad’s neighbor & things will then get a bit more tangled up. I am not sure if I am looking forward to the havoc that Shiraz’s presence will create in Mehru’s life but I hope Ahad will stand by her & will decide to to stay by her side. Ohkay so, surprisingly I am enjoying how the story of this drama is unfolding. I actually thought that it would derail & won’t have much to offer but I am so glad that the writer gave us so many positive & appeasing things through this story. I really really like how Mehru’s character is shaping up to be, which actually is a pleasant surprise because she being someone who never really stepped outside her home has been coping well with the change life offered to her.
The best thing about this entire situation right now is the way Mehru & Ahad are forming a relationship with each other. They both are complete strangers who are forced to share one roof & they both are trying really hard to develop an understanding where this entire progress comes with a lot of arguments, some positive gestures & some heart-to-heart conversations because both Mehru & Ahad know that they have no one else to rely on, so despite having a difference of opinion almost every single time, every single day, they walk past it & try to move forward, which is really good & refreshing to see because we hardly ever come across such characters who believe in dealing with the obstacles with a positive mind-set that too as a team.
Ahad has lived quite a care-free life where he never really took care of his own responsibilities, but now he not only has to fend for himself but he has a wife to take care of too, that is why despite being rational most of the times, he loses the plot & becomes frustrated as he wasn’t used to the idea of having someone around him who actually depended on him. Mehru on the other hand lived such a life where she had to seek permission for every single thing, she lived a life where she wasn’t even allowed to walk freely in her own home because her brothers thought that they were ‘protecting’ her & she was forced to be dependent on her brothers too. Mehru & Ahad have lived completely different lives & they come from completely different backgrounds that is why they both end up arguing with each other because Ahad expects Mehru to listen to him without questioning & Mehru believes in reasoning every single time as she has always felt that people misunderstood her so she wants to put her opinion forward & let Ahad know what is running through her mind.
I really like how the writer has etched out the character of Mehru because she could’ve easily become a ‘bechari’ who felt like a fish out of water after having her life turned upside down but the way Mehru is conducting herself & the way she is coming to terms with her current situation is commendable. I really really like how she never leaves an opportunity to stand for herself & makes sure to let Ahad know that she is opinionated but politely at that. It was good to see Mehru realizing her faults & reflecting on herself, which actually looked like some unnatural phenomenon because we never actually get to see the characters in our dramas doing that, but anyways, I found it admirable that Mehru realized she was becoming bitter whereas she didn’t have the reason to & that is why she ended up apologizing for the way she treated Ahad. Ahad on the other hand ended up hurting her with a derogatory remark about where he met her & he ended up judging her character but he made up for it because he heard what Mehru had to say & she made sure that she got a fair chance to explain herself.
On the other end, Shiraz is getting married & Ehtasham has declared that he has nothing to do with Shiraz & his mother. I think the way Ehtashaam reacts & has become an irrational control freak is also a mistake of his mother Zeenat because in the flashback scene where Mehru recalled what her mother used to say to her, it was made clear that even Zeenat felt that the guys reign supreme & that is why she allowed Ehtasham & Hassam to make decisions of Mehru’s life on her behalf. I believe if it wasn’t for her, her sons might not have turned out to be so rigid & wrongfully staunch because she never took a stand for her daughter & allowed her sons to do what they deemed fit & to be honest, all the things she said about how girls shouldn’t think too much & they should do what the men of the house tell them do made me dislike her thought process a tad bit!
Well, the conversation Saira & Zeenat had about Mehru where Saira ended up telling her to accept everything as a Decree of Allah was written beautifully & it had a positive message because Saira told Zeenat how Allah loves His creation a 70 times more than a mother can love her child. This entire conversation about Allah left me feeling really good & it somehow showcased the mindset of the writer & it left me feeling positive that there are still ‘some’ writers who have their concepts about Allah & His teachings crystal clear, unlike so many other ‘so-called’ writers who find it hard to even use Allah’s name in their dialogues & end up playing with the basic concepts of marriage & divorce set by Allah only for the sake of ratings!
Anyways, Mehru has started depending on Ahad because she spoke to him about how she missed her mother & also Mehru has started to feel that she is getting used to having him around, I just love how she is not afraid to give words to her feelings. Ahad has done a lot such gestures to make her feel comfortable & the way he lashed out on those strangers to protect ‘his wife’ did make Mehru feel that their relationship is getting stronger, may be more than they both acknowledge & realize.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode & I am really glad that the writer & the director have kept the ‘bechari’ factor out of Mehru’s character because the way she stands up for herself is refreshing to see & it is good to have a character who believes in herself & is rightly opinionated. Both Farhan Ahmed Malhi & Sanam Chaudhry have acted really really well & their chemistry as strangers tied together as a couple is quite good too. The preview of the next episode seemed a bit rushed but I am not sure if all that will happen in one episode as last week’s preview showed that Ahad will meet his father in this episode but that didn’t happen. Looks like Ahad will suggest his father to come & live with him in Islamabad which will raise a lot of problems for Mehru as Ahad’s father is a bit unreasonable & hard to deal with, but let’s see. Ohkay so, this episode of Kathputli was good because it took the story forward in that direction which we didn’t expect. I know things are going to get difficult between Mehru & Ahad but for now, the way they both tried to make themselves understand the importance of this relationship was refreshing to see.
Mehru’s mother found out that her daughter has died & as expected, she couldn’t cope up with the news but she is fortunate enough to have a companion like Saira in that house who not only feels for her & Mehru, but also told her the truth to bring herself out of the misery. Zeenat knew this was going to be a tougher challenge where despite knowing that her daughter is alive, she’ll have to live like she doesn’t anymore only because of Ehtasham & Hassam. I actually want to see what punishment the writer has reserved for Ehtasham & Hassam because they both deserve the worst for putting their mother & sister through this!
Finally, Mehru & Ahad moved to Islamabad, but I wish they had shown an apartment being allotted to them because for 2 individuals, they didn’t need such a huge villa. Anyways, they moved & things were hard for Mehru at first because she didn’t know what to do & what to expect but it was good to see Ahad breaking the ice & trying to make things as normal as he could. He knows that Mehru has been through a lot & for that reason he puts his problems aside & considers what she must be feeling.
Mehru hasn’t come out of what she has been through that is why she is not mentally ready to understand what she should do in the situation that she’s in, where all of a sudden a stranger is expecting things from her & she doesn’t know how to react. I really liked how Ahad didn’t turn everything into an ego issue & tried to make her understand how they both need to work together to shape their lives up. Ahad knows that Mehru has lived a very difficult & different life, that is why her inconsideration didn’t bother him much & he turned it into an opportunity to make things a bit more clearer to Mehru by having a conversation with her. I also must say that I like how both Ahad & Mehru despite going through so much are curbing their worries & are enthusiastic about shaping their future, which is a rarity these days & we hardly get to see such characters in our dramas.
The entire scenario where Mehru didn’t eat anything followed by Ahad’s reaction was really done nicely. It was something that made Ahad realize that Mehru is dependent on him & on humanitarian grounds he needs to take care of smallest of the things that she might need. It is good that Ahad understands how important this entire opportunity is for both him & Mehru, that is why he wants to make the most of it & in that process, he didn’t mind encouraging & empowering Mehru too. To my surprise, I really liked Ahad’s approach that he adapted towards Mehru & the appreciation that he had towards the ease that came with this relationship.
Overall, this episode was great & I am glad that they are taking things forward. I still had a feeling that Mehru seemed a little immature but there was something admirable about her immaturity too. She is not used to such things & she is making it very clear which was actually funny. Looks like Ahad will take a trip to Karachi to meet his mother but will find out that she is no more & while he’ll be away, Mehru will realize that she is getting used to Ahad’s presence. I must say, to my surprise, I am actually looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Kathputli.
