Another episode of running round in circles and raising old issues and keeping the story stuck and frozen. I’m sure a lot of people might be liking the drama, as some comments showed and I’m all for finding positive attributes and not giving too much importance to the shortcomings but I fail to see how can I do it here. The screenplay, story, script, character development, nothing moved forward in this episode.
Khaani is now feeling better and has started to develop feelings for the anonymous lover who is writing her love letters and sending her gifts. It’s still surprising that she is not curious and calculating as to who is sending her all these things and why is he so much in love with her. She is content like a teenager to fantasize the sky and the moon in the name of her unnamed lover whom she has also started to develop feelings for.
Hadi is rude to his parents since he thinks they won’t agree to his and Khaani’s marriage. His melodramatic mother is moping on her bed in full makeup while Mir Shah repeats “Kia halat banai hui hai” ten times in the same scene. Mir Shah himself thinks there is not much of a problem and that Hadi will come around in his own time. When Hadi left the table and Sitara came to find him, it was hilarious that she had put on sunglasses to come out and find her son in their garden. The conversation between mother and son could have been really important and meaningful but it was so bad that seemed nothing more than a filler scene.
Talking of filler scenes, there were quite a lot of them in this episode as well. Khaani’s mother their taking care care of his paralyzed husband and him being overwhelmed with gratitude. Sara being concerned about her family. Khaani being really brave and wanting to handle things on her own. Ali trying to talk sense into Hadi. Sitara lamenting about what her husband or son might do and the clash between them. Khaani’s uncle and aunt coming back to convince the family to come with them and her parents refusing to leave their home. Hadi dreaming about Khaani and sending her letters. We have been seeing this all for last few episodes repeatedly, though Mir Hadi is getting scarier as each episode passes.

So this episode took us from scene to scene but there was no further development in the story. Absolutely none. It was evident that Mir Hadi had fallen for Khaani but where do we go from here? And there were also a few big loopholes in the episode yesterday.
Firstly, lame attempt at killing Khaani by Mir Shah lacked conviction. Why would he, who in his own words comes from a family where they have been killing people for their own reasons for generations, hire an old inexperienced van driver who thought just hitting someone and making them fall down is enough for their death? Secondly, Mir Hadi was so concerned about her and genuinely believes that he loves her but he has not shown an ounce of regret at killing her brother yet. Unless he feels guilty at what he has done , you cannot believe that he has turned over a new life and the place to do that was before he was so actively pursuing Khaani. From his character development till now, he just seems an obsessive spoilt brat.
Khaani is a relatively sane factor in the story but an intelligent woman like her should have been able to guess who is behind all these anonymous gifts and flowers, but maybe she is too preoccupied with her family’s problems to guess her unnamed lover, which is understandable. Her father is quite upset at being paralyzed and her mother has to give up her life in order to care for him which is taking quite a toll on their household. She has arranged treatment for her father and is also fulfilling her younger sisters’ material wishes.
One thing that annoyingly stood out is the title now where Sana and Feroz are riding a bicycle lovingly. A drama that started with bloodshed cannot just so soon change into a romantic saga, seems very unreal. Hadi looks downright creepy especially in that scene when he went to check on her when she and her sisters are sleeping and staring at her in the bed. I totally failed to see that as romantic and then you see both of them on a love ride.
There are some credits to the play as well. The plot is unusual and depicts some seriously harsh realities which is good, but there is need for a slightly more realistic screenplay. Feroz Khan is doing a good job as the bad guy in the drama, who is very badly brought up and that makes him apathetic and oblivious to anyone else’s feelings except his own, but when he is promoted as the protagonist is where the plot lacks definition. Mehmood Aslam is also great as the ferocious and powerful Mir Shah. Khaani’s parents are also looking very natural and relatable as they fight their battles bravely.
I hope next episode will bring some pace to the story.
So this episode was essentially the same as last one, except a few minor developments like Hadi has become more vocal about his interest in Khaani and his parents’ doubt has turned into certainty that their boy is after more trouble now.
Khaani on the other hand is busy in fulfilling her duties that she is shouldering after her brother’s death and her father’s paralysis. She has snubbed Hadi time and again but he is following her around the town, stalking her on her jobs and imagining her in his mind everywhere. He is thoroughly obsessed but we got to know it in the last episode as well. One interesting thing that stood out was the fact that till now, Khaani is a lot of things to him like his obsession and a threat to his feelings of power but he does not love her in the true sense of the word. He is basically just harassing her to clear the confusion in his mind as to how this girl cannot be deathly afraid of him. Later, Khaani was reminiscing his words but shockingly, she was not angry that he even thought of being in love with her after killing her brother in cold blood, she was merely thoughtful and worried. The promo also showed that he is genuinely concerned when his father tried to kill her and even wanted to take his life at his father’s attempt to murder her. These two scenes are giving inklings that Mir Hadi might eventually be the protagonist in this play.
Rest of the episode was strictly average and repetitive. This scene has been shown to death in Khaani’s household that one or the other of her younger sisters mention Sarim and the whole family is reduced to tears. While their loss certainly is not forgettable, showing the same thing again and again does not do the audience any favors, especially since Sana and Sara are both acting quite unimpressively. Sana Javed is doing a good job though she is still more made up and blow dried than her circumstances are shown. How does she get the time and money, working two jobs to help support her family who depend on her income for making the ends meet.
Sitara, Sonia, Mir Shah, Ali were all their own usual selves and there was not further development in any character, lead or not..
So this episode was mainly about Hadi’s confusion as to what could make someone unafraid of him. He is basically a megalomaniac (someone who thrives on feeling powerful) whose whole world is shattered when a vulnerable young middle class girl stands up to face him. There were a lot of important issues raised in this episode, but the one things that deserves appreciation is Sana Javed’s acting. She did really well in this episode. Her dialogues when Hadi confronted him were on spot and delivered immaculately. The courage was not only conveyed through words but her body language, her stance, her eyes and that really made it a powerful scene. In her own way, she has become a thorn in Mir Hadi’s side, who is introduced to a new type of human beings that he did not know existed, those who still believes there is someone up high who controls all decisions and who are unafraid of everyone but Him. Till now he has only seen meeklings to whom he and his father are the only gods they know.
While Sana’s character is quite precise and inspiring, Feroze Khan is seeming like a psychopath altogether. Bothered by someone who wants to forget he even existed is the case of an extremely insecure and unstable person. On top of that, there is this glaring class difference where one girl has to leave her studies and work two jobs while travelling on public transport, and then there is this man who has the luxury of time and money to just aimlessly roam the streets in search of his newfound obsession in a brand new Jeep with armed servants. If they are trying to make Hadi’s character the shallowest, the weakest and very despicable, then the writer and director are on spot. However, the promo showed him using the word payar, which I hope is not what it will turn into, or atleast it will remain one sided if Hadi is deluded enough to believe it is love that he is in.
Rest of the episode was also not too bad. Khaani’s parents were totally supportive of their daughter’s decision of getting a job so they can make ends meet after the father’s paralysis. Salma Hassan and Sana Javed are a perfect mother daughter duo ; strong, independent yet very kind and caring. Saman Ansari is consistently doing well as the shallow , fake and selfish Sitara and so is Mehmood Aslam.
The last scene was well written and executed. Sarim had planned a surprise for Khaani which their younger sisters had to give her in very sad circumstances. As Khaani opened the thoughtful gifts, all three of them got wrapped up in their own grief for their loving brother who has gone too soon from their lives, but especially Khaani who shared a special bond with him that only twins can understand.
Stay tuned for the next episode of this drama that is now picking pace and improving in dramatization too.
So this episode brought to us the aftermath of whole Sarim’s murder and maafi nama issue. For the fear of sounding like a broken record, I will not discuss today that this drama has a very depressive feel to it, because we all know it and because I researched a bit and things like this still do happen in our society. Despite all that’s great in our country, there have been actual cases where power wins over all forms of justice, humanity and common sense. So, we have to give this drama the credit for bringing forth such a dark and painful reality.
There has not been much advancement in the story since this episode was more about the emotions and bone wrecking sadness that Khaani and her mother are feeling that the murderer of the apple of their eye is roaming unscathed and that they have a role to play in it. The dynamics between mother and daughter were captured well in the confrontational scene and both Sana and Salma excelled in it. Sonya’s logic that she was not there to save Sarim but she was there for Khaani so she had to agree to everything in exchange of her safety made perfect sense. Sana Javed was looking beautiful in all scenes today. She has resigned to her helplessness and has started to trust a higher power to help her find a way against the cruel laws of society.
In Mir household, the elders felt insulted when Khaani threw the check to their faces since it was a first for them, but it was Mir Hadi who was the most deeply affected by it. Even though Khaani thinks she has failed in getting justice for Sarim, if she had not created such fuss, Hadi would not have been forced to rethink what he had done. Now what he does with his remorse is another story, but knowing his character it seems unlikely that he will change for the better. It looks like he is soon going to develop an unhealthy obsession with Khaani as evident by the way he was taking her pictures from the car. The man seriously has had no upbringing. If his parents are supporting him after murder, it can be said with certainty hat they never taught them about not taking someone’s picture without permission. Still, it looked odd and made him look very villainous.
Stay tuned to see where does Hadi’s undue obsession with Khaani will take both of them and their families.
So this was another episode about power games and class differences. The point of the story is valid but it’s execution is taking all the charm out of it. The characters are loud and in your face, the scenes over the top and the dialogues very cliched. What basically happened here was that Khaani has lost the battle of not giving Mir Hadi the relief of a maafi nama. Not that he really needed one actually, but he was still shown running after it. Khaani is shown naive enough to go and threaten a man who has the audicity to kill in a flash. Somehow, she is behaving less like a girl whose grievance has empowered her, rather more like an emotional wreck, which is understandable considering what her family went through but it’s being shown in wrong colours of valour and bravery.
On the other hand, Feroze Khan is unfortunately not contributing much to anything in the play. His dialogues seems copied, his gestures totally an imitation of older movies of demented and villainous Bollywood lovers
There wasn’t much of anything seriously in the episode to be commented upon. After creating such fuss of being nice and dropping subtle threats, Hadi and his friend Ali with Sitara’s blessings downright intimidated Khaani’s family and got a signature on gun point. The whole scene caused her father to have a heart attack and that put the family in more pain. When the media was questioning the family and Mir Shah was on his acting skills again, I so wished Khaani would speak up and then the game would have been much weaker on Mir Shah’s side but sadly, they were probably too traumatized and worried about her father’s health to speak up.
Here we are just done with the third episode of this play and things are not looking up, atleast story wise. The performances were brilliant though especially Rashid Farouqi and Salma Hassan. Mehmood Aslam and Saman Ansari are totally owning their characters as always.
Now Khaani has decided to turn over a new leaf of valour and bravery after she heard her parents feeling so helpless and desperate and wanting to end the court case against Mir Hadi to protect their daughters. This makes Khaani turn into a girl not afraid of anything. Don’t know why but despite the fact that Sana is looking beautiful sans makeup and she is acting well too, but its still seeming more like a good performance rather than the natural expressions of a bereaved sister. It’s not very easy to relate to her pain and that I hope changes soon. She has now denounced any intention her parents had of signing a forgiveness agreement so Hadi can be spared, but it is a bit unbelievable that now sensible strong parents who have always had such a hold on their kids are suddenly so indecisive that Khaani is making decisions for them, but then, grief does change people totally unlike themselves so that’s plausible that they cannot determine which way they really want to go. The turmoil of a father who loves his own daughters like sons but understands the limitations put on him by the society and wants to stay in the back foot so his girls are away from all harm was brilliantly executed by Rashid Farouqi. Tha man commands respect with his performance and grip on the scenes.
In the Mir’s household, their dynamics are driven by power, money and fame and Mehmood Aslam is shown to take every step with uncanny precision. They couldn’t have chosen a better Mir Shah than him. Saman Ansari, though experienced in playing such roles of a big man’s wife, is still refreshingly flawless as Sitara. A un empathetic, arrogant woman who thinks of people with lower status as lesser beings, and money has totally deluded her to rights and wrongs.
Coming to our hero and villain in one Feroze Khan, what we basically saw today was his aggressive attempts to make Khaani agree to forgive him with the help of his goons. Mir Hadi sirf hansna janta hai, kiyun kay woh logon ko rulana janta hai.. very distasteful indeed !!
Now I really hope all he stays is a psychotic obsessive lover and never becomes Khaani’s romantic interest in the play because that will twist the ethics of this story on many levels. They are showing him to be so egocentric and villainous that no room is left for any soft spot for him.
It seems the battle of maafi nama continues far into the next episode as well.. stay tuned…

Drama serial Khaani continues to be one of the most watched dramas on television. There has been a great deal of character development in the past few episodes. This episode also had many important developments. We have chosen the best scene from this latest episode based on how it impacted the story and how this scene was written and executed.
So the aftermath of all that happened at the end of last episode is worrisome on all sides. In Sarim’a house, the chaos was obvious, as his parents and sisters tried to come to terms with his untimely and very brutal death. Needless to say, the grief shown by all actors individually and as a family was so real it was almost palpable. Almost the whole episode was dedicated to the condition of parents and siblings of a child murdered in cold blood like this.
In the Mir household, family members are equally taut with worry but of a different kind. Sitara was acting on her motherly instincts and wanted her child out as soon as possible, but Mir is trying to play it slow and steady. He wants to make sure this action of his son’s does not affect his prospects for the next elections. Saman Ansari gives beautiful expressions. No matter how many dramas you see of her, the lady does not fail to impress with her finesse and totally natural acting skills.
Nothing much happened in the story form today as it was just sadness and disbelief from Sarim’s family and arrogance and self serving interests in the Mir’s. Khaani is slowly realising that she needs to grow up and take the world head on. Her twin brother who was more like a shelter to her is no more and that has made her realise her role in the family.
Mir Hadi is not at all remorseful at everything he has done. If anything, he is more arrogant after becoming a murderer. Feroze Khan is slightly over acting here, especially when compared with others in the play. His father has started dropping subtle hints and pressurising the victim’s parents to agree to forgive Hadi. Then they become quiet threats like defaming their late son and pointing fingers at their daughter’s character. Whether they succumb to the pressure or hold their own is yet to be seen. The promo shows that Khaani will want revenge vehemently and nothing can stand in her way. Stay tuned for next episode..
This new drama aired for the first time today and it certainly looks promising, to say the least. Story seems a little cliched as in a happy family, middle class income and abundance of love and happiness. On the other hand, a powerful man, his spoilt son, unlimited money and the associated animalistic pride. These two collide in the worst possible way, in which the weaker side suffers and suffers and has all their happiness snatched away from them before justice is served or the natural law of so shall you sow, so shall you reap tips the scales in favour of the meek and poor. Saying all that, the way these characters are executed and the storyline unfolded in the first episode, it cannot be passed as just one of those. This play does seem to carry its own weight and endearment for characters, that will hopefully make us look forward every week.
So what happened today was that the better part of an hour was shown in telling how close knit Khaani’s family is, who herself is a scared young girl. She constantly needs her parents and twin brother Sarim’s support to navigate life as she is afraid even of plastic mice that her younger sisters plant on her bed as a prank. The girls’ first encounter with the feudal family of Mir Hadi happens as he upturns a poor rikshaw wala’s vehicle. Both of them are moved but Khaani wants to disappear from the scene and chaos while her younger sibling Sara wants to make sure the offenders are caught.
Khaani and her twin brothers are about to be given a surprise birthday party for which their bank officer dad and montessori teacher mother are joining resources as they are shown to do often for their kids’ desires. Sarim is waiting for a scholarship which he gets and the news delights the whole family. The next most powerful scene and the most important happening of the drama was amazingly touching. It was executed brilliantly and despite knowing where the events are leading, you couldn’t help wishing, praying… no, please no. It wasn’t to any avail though as the mere request to move his car by Sarim rubbed the arrogant and rich Mir Hadi in the wrong way. He pushed and shoved Sarim to which he responded in the same way. Mir Hadi could not bear this retaliation and he killed the boy by pumping four bullets into him. As in this episode, Sarim’s family have no idea that their very beings have been shaken ruthlessly to the cores, as he couldn’t take that last call from his twin sister. The light note on which the drama started soon turned into an emotionally packed and brutally charged one and from the teasers, it can be incurred that it will continue like this now. Stay tuned to see how Khaani’s family come to terms with their absolutely irreplaceable loss.
As far as the actors go, Sana Javed seemed a little odd in the first few shots, since I still remember her from “Zara Yad Kar” but soon she related well to the gentle and timid Khaani. Feroze Khan also impressed as the spoilt and arrogant Mir Hadi. It seems as if he is both the villain and hero in this drama, and from his entry, I think he is going to carry the contradiction well.

On Thursday, 24 August 2017, the famous clothing brand Khaadi introduced Chapter 2 at Dolmen mall, Clifton, Karachi. Through Chapter 2, Khaadi returns to its roots, involving hand woven garments. Khaadi had started off their business with hand woven clothes but due to their high expenses and low production rate, the hand woven garments had to move back to the passenger seat from the driver seat.
Chapter 2 involves cleaner, simpler looks and a classic silhouette that won’t be going out of fashion for a long time. It is a contemporary take on traditional hand woven fabrics; through high contrast, progression of color and composition.

Today, in another strange incident in Pakistan, an angry customer at KFC Shiekhupura misbehaved with a female staff member. The customer attacked staff just because his order at KFC got delayed, he went to the the counter and hit the computer screen and tried to scare the female staff, soon after the attack on female staff, the man who misbehaved was badly beaten-up by people presented at the KFC Frenchies.
