“The major collapse in my marriage was his mother, she had a problem with my music. We lived together for 5.5 years and after that we parted our ways. The biggest mistake I made in my life was that when I was engaged to him I wasn’t much happy and satisfied with it but during this time period he tried to attempt suicide which changed my mind. I thought that a person who’s trying to kill himself in a fear of losing me, will surely take care of me for the whole life but this wasn’t the reality. From the first day of our marriage till we separated, I was just pleasing him”, added Hadiqa.

Hadiqa Kiani – Voyage to stardom in the world of music

0

There are a number of talented singers in Pakistan but there are only a hand full of female singer that have still been successful in maintaining their name in the industry. Hadiqa Kiani is one of them

Untitled

Hadiqa was born in Rawalpindi as the youngest of 3 siblings, her older brother (Irfan) and sister ( Sasha). Her father died when she was 3 years old. Her mother Khawar was the Principle of a Government Girls School. Since childhood, Hadiqa and both her brother and sister had a knack for music, and as such her mother and school enlisted her in the Pakistan National Council Of The Arts. During her childhood days, she used to perform in front of crowd of thousands of people, at the Liaqat Memorial Hall Pindi in various children music festivals. Also music was taught as a subject in her school and she recieved early education in music from her music teacher Madam Nargis Naheed.

She went on to study at Viqar-un-Nisa Noon Girls High School Pindi. She represented Pakistan in International children festivals in Turkey, Jordan, Bulgaria, and Greece, winning various medals along the way. She also used to be on Sohail Rana’s children’s program “Rang Barangi Dunya”; a weekly musical on PTV.

As an eighth grader Hadiqa moved from birth place Rawalpindi to Lahore. She was then enrolled in Naya Aligar Public School Lahore. She then went on to Kinnaird and Govt. College, due to her excellent academic performance, and earned a master’s degree in Psychology.

In Lahore she got classically trained by Ustad Faiz Ahmed Khan (Late) and was also groomed by Wajid Ali Nashad (Late).

In early 90s, Hadiqa came onto TV to host a children music program from PTV called Angan Angan Taray. In the three and a half year long run, she had sung over eight hundred songs for children and also hosted the same show along side renowned music Composer Amjad Bobby (Late) and later on with music composer Khalil Ahmed (late). She also appeared as a VJ for a music charts program called Video Junction on NTM.

Hadiqa sung songs as a playback singer for a musical movie called Sargam (featuring Zeba Bakhtiar) in 1994 (muscic of which was composed by Adnan Sami Khan). The same year, she received various awards for her playback singing.

She won “NTM Viewer’s choice award” for the best female Singer of Pakistan in 1995. In the same Award show, Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was awarded as the best Male Singer of Pakistan.

Hadiqa released her debut album Raaz (Secret) in 1996. She composed and wrote the lyrics to her first single, “Jeevan” (Life). The album spawned a string of radio friendly tunes and generally had favorable reviews. One reason Hadiqa”s album did well was because it was not common for female singers (from non musical backgrounds) to release albums in Pakistan. Also, she was the first female singer to release a pop album after a former pop singer, Nazia Hassan, gave up her musical career in 1993. Hadiqa’s ability to sing in various dialects also helped the album gain momentum.

In 1996, Hadiqa’s debut had sold over 700,000 thousand copies, a very impressive figure for Pakistan. This milestone came when piracy in Pakistan hit an all time high. She kept on releasing singles from the album, all of which were received well. These included “Yaad”, “Tu Agar Mil Jaata”, “Jaan E Jan”, and “Manne Di Mauj”.

Her increasing popularity was further highlighted in January 1997 when Hadiqa became the first Asian singer ever to perform on the British National Lottery Live BBC1 (a program with an estimated viewership 16.6 million at that time). Afterwards she worked on two more shows with Bally Sagoo for BBC 2 and ITV before moving to perform in the U.S. Her U.S. tour covered 15 states and a show in Canada too. The same year Hadiqa performed on several other international events such as “Celebration Hong Kong 97” at Happy Valley Race Course, alongside other International singers like Lisa Stansfield, Wet Wet Wet, Michael Learns to Rock, All 4 One and The Brand New Heavies.

By the end of the year she became the first Asian female singer ever to be signed by Pepsi Cola International. She was the second female in the world to achieve this, with the first being Gloria Estefan.

In 1998 Hadiqa began working on her second music album, Roshni (Light). The album was dedicated to her nephew Sonu, the son of her older sister, The first single off the album, “Tu Nawa Tu Sada” was released before the album was released. Hadiqa then released a second single, “Inteha-e-Shauq”. The song became the official song for the Pakistani Cricket team for the Cricket World Cup that year. Both songs being patriotic gained favorable reviews, however “Inteha-e-Shauq” was a much better success for Hadiqa.

On November 1, 1998 Hadiqa released Roshni. Initial album sales were powered mostly by “Inteha-e-Shauq”, which made the final listing of the album along with “Tu Nawa Tu Sada”.

Hadiqa’s third single off the album, “Dupatta” was an instant success. “Dupatta” gained more popularity than any other single .The success of the song was attributed to its quasi-bhangra rhythm with fat, funky techno beats and wah wah guitars, and Hadiqa’s “dreamy-meets-husky- vocals”, which made the results “stunning.” In wake of Dupatta’s success, Hadiqa soon went on to be widely accepted as the country’s leading female vocalist.

Capitalizing on “Dupatta’s” success, Hadiqa went on to release two other moderate hits, “Roshni”, and “Woh Kaun Hai”. She then delivered once again by releasing a sixth single off the album, “Boohey Barian” which went on to become an even bigger hit for her than “Dupatta”. To date, “Boohey Barian” is widely accepted as Hadiqa’s best single ever. So much so that it was adapted in TWO Indian films as “Hum Tuharey Hein Sanam” and Dil Laga Liya”.

Hadiqa’s massive success in 1999 was highlighted when she won PTV World viewer’s choice award for the best female singer in 2000. She also released seventh single off the album, “Intezaar”.

In October, 2005, Hadiqa became the first person to adopt a baby from the earthquake. She has named the baby boy “Naaday Ali” and officially announced her adoption decision on Geo TV the same night she adopted him on a live show “Capital Talk”. She then proceeded to announce it in an official press release. Later she was given the sole guardianship of the baby by the honourable court of Law.

Hadiqa represented Pakistan on the 25th Anniversary of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) in Turkey. Musicians and Artists from Islamic Countries such as Azerbaijan, U.A.E, Iran, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Turkey, Pakistan and Yemen took part in the festival. The event was organized by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. She performed at the AKM concert Hall on 23 November 2005. Among the audience were musicians from various countries. The biggest surprise for the audience was when Hadiqa sang “Sanalama” (Turkish song of Living Legend “Sezanaksu”). The audience gave her a standing ovation. At the end of her performance, The Mayor of Istanbul presented a bouquet of flowers to her. After her performance she received invitations for upcoming Art festivals in various countries such as Iran, Syria, Qatar and Lebanon. During her stay in Istanbul she officially visited various historical sites in Turkey and conveyed the love of Pakistan for Turkey. Her performance in Istanbul was important news in various Turkish News papers. She had to extend her tour of Turkey and performed in Ankara and Izmeer (Police Academy)

As an Ambassador of Pop culture in Pakistan, Hadiqa officially performed for various royalties and Heads of the states. She performed in China for the Chinese 2nd Premier on 21st Feb, 2006. She performed for President George W.Bush on 4 March, 2006. She performed for the Crown Prince of Brunei Al-Muhtadee Billah Bolkiah on 29 May, 2006. She performed for Mrs.Laura Bush on September 21, 2006 at The Kennedy Convention Centre, Washington DC. She closed the year by performing for HRH Prince Charles on October 30, 2006, and the Chinese President Mr. Hu Jin Tau on November 23, 2006.

In January 2006, Hadiqa released a single, “Iss Bar Milo”. Although the song was off her album Rung, it was used instead to promote a duo between her and Aamir Zaki. They both had planned to release an English album. The song became a huge success, and its video continue to build on the trend of videos Hadiqa had released. In the video Hadiqa plays a schizophrenic patient at a mental institution for women. Reviews for the rock song were extremely favorable, with people appreciating her acting and her decision to sing different genres.

In Feburary 2006, Hadiqa’s mother got paralized. She is not just a mother but her best friend and her biggest support in life. Her mother is also the lyric writer of Hadiqa’s songs like Boohay Barian, Ranjhan, Mahi, Jogi and many more. Hadiqa decided to focus all her attention towards her mother and everything else came later.

On March 23, 2006, Hadiqa was awarded the “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” by the Government of Pakistan, one of the highest civil awards of the country, for acknowledging her services in the field of music and bringing good name to the country for over a decade. The award was announced on August 14, 2005, but the ceremony was on March 23 2006.

Hadiqa had released another video by the end of 2006. She was featured on UK based producer Khiza’s album Loyal To The Game. The album’s lead single, “Mehr Ma” featured Hadiqa. The song was a massive success in Pakistan and UK, and was seen as a great return for Hadiqa after her ballads in Rung. This was highlighted by the fact that Khiza’s same album in Pakistan was titled Mehr Ma and not Loyal to the Game. In the video, Hadiqa is seen with different hairstyles and outfits. Its reviews have been extremely favorable. Hadiqa also performed the same song at the 2006 Lux Style Awards.

In March 2007, Hadiqa was one of the many artists that were featured in a widely popular track called “Yeh Hum Naheen”. In this song, various Pakistani artists joined to send out a message that people should stop blaming Muslims for the innocent killings of other Muslims. The song also sends out an anti-terrorism message. Other artists in the song are Haroon, Ali Haider, Ali Zafar, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Strings, and Shuja Haider. The song had been picked up by international stations like Fox News and BBC, and had received over 70,000 downloads.

In 2007, Hadiqa Kiani released her fourth album, Rough Cut, which was her 1st Eastern Alt Rock album in collaboration with Aamir Zaki. With the release of Rough Cut, Hadiqa became the first Pakistani main stream artist to release a complete English Album.

In April 2007, Hadiqa released the first single from the album, titled “Living This Lie”, a song which talks about the stressful life of being a star. The same week, Hadiqa was named “Hotstepper of the week” for a Karachi based magazine. The magazine also stated that
“Ultimately, as long as Hadiqa is around, there is still hope for women in the patriarchal music world of Pakistan”.

Hadiqa’s second single that was released from the album was titled “All The Same”. Because of having limited audience for such genre of music, Rough Cut didn’t sell as much as Hadiqa’s older works. Many experts said that since an overwhelming majority of people in the country do not understand English, the album didn’t sell as much. However the single “Living This Lie” got nominated for “Best English Song” for “The Musik Awards” in 2007. But, due to the emergency situations in the country in 2007, the awards were called off. Hadiqa also got nominated for Best Female Singer in the same awards.

In August, 2007, Hadiqa was one of the performers for the London Day Parade at Trafalgar Square, London which was broad casted by Geo TV to celebrate 60 years of Independence for the country. Hadiqa was the only singer who sang completely live that day. She was also part of closing the show with the popular patriotic song “Jeevay Pakistan” alongside Ali Zafar.

Later that year, she also released an Urdu single titled “Zindagi” which was a rock themed song about the life (Zindagi) of Pakistani children. The song was released a few weeks after the London Day Parade.

Hadiqa did not perform much internationally as she did in years before, and even toured around Pakistan less frequently towards the end of the year 2007 (primarily due to the state of emergency and the turmoils the country went through). However earlier in 2007 (May 19) Hadiqa performed at Dead Sea Marriott Jordan for 28 Heads of States at the World Economic Conference. During her performance Hadiqa performed an Arabic song too.

Hadiqa performed on Ten Sports Channel at a 20-20 cricket match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on April 20, 2008 at the National Cricket Stadium Karachi.

On 13 August 2008, Hadiqa Kiani’s 2nd marriage officially came to an end.

Later in September 2008, Hadiqa was signed as a Brand Ambassador for another Uni Lever Brand “PONDS (Age Miracle).

In October 2008 Hadiqa went to Mumbai to shoot two new Music videos.

After coming back from Mumbai, Hadiqa was signed as the Brand Ambassador for a Shoe Company “Soul Collection” a Company owned by Service Shoes (the biggest local shoe making Company in Pakistan). As the brand Ambassador of Soul Collection, Hadiqa revealed the 1st reversable shoe of the world called Soul Mirror.
In 2009 Hadiqa became one of the judges for a Music reality show on GEO TV called LG-Awaz Baney Star (1st student singing competition in Pakistan).

Later, on 16th June 2009, Hadiqa was signed as the Brand Ambassador for LG-Mobiles alongside singer Shehzad Roy.

On 17th June 2009 a press conference was held in PC Hotel Karachi in which Hadiqa’s 5th Album (4th Pop Album) “AASMAAN” was released officially in Pakistan by Fire Records (the leading Music Record Company in Pakistan). The same day her music video “Sohnya” was released on various music channels.

From 2010 till 2012 she has been busy in various projects inside and outside Pakistan. These days she is doing a singing reality show (Pakistan Idol) as Judge

Habs Episode 18 & 19 Story Review

These two episodes of Habs proved that all my “reservations” regarding the drama were accurate, especially the one concerning the writer(s) of the drama. Since Habs’ script is a product of “teamwork”, it would be safe to say, at this point, that too many cooks spoil the broth. Ayesha’s character started going downhill the day she married Basit and all the decisions she took in these two episodes proved to be the final nail in the coffin. Ushna Shah made the character bearable but even with all her intellect, Ayesha took some of the most stupid decisions. After watching the latest episode, in particular, I was reminded of the drama serial Dillagi, the misunderstanding between Mohid and Anmol, and how it made everyone root for them more than ever before. The writer(s) definitely took some serious inspiration from there but they failed to execute the entire climax in a similar fashion. I have always felt that Basit and Ayesha’s track has been the weakest link. The sidetracks held my interest more right from the beginning but with this episode even Bano disappointed. These had to be the worst two episodes of Habs content and execution-wise. It is unfortunate that the producers ruin a perfectly put-together storyline by asking writers to stretch the stories and requesting them to “copy” ideas from other dramas!

The Misunderstanding

It is difficult to gauge what was more absurd about the latest developments, Ayesha and Fahad’s “friendship” or the fact that Ayesha and Fahad could not “guess” how this would impact Basit who already has serious trust issues. Basit has a lot of issues, the character is toxic in its own way but his toxicity makes sense. The writer(s) made sure that the viewers understand why Basit has all these issues but at the same time, they showed how he was willing to move forward. Also, the fact that there was a time when Basit trusted Fahad enough to have dinner with Ayesha and then drop her back in the middle of the night but now all of a sudden had lost all that trust was just nonsensical. Especially because now Basit was actively working on getting closure and was healing. All of this would have made some sense had it happened earlier on. Such misunderstandings are always in bad taste. They started with dramas such as Meri Zaat Zara e Benishan, Hamsafar, and the list is never-ending. Most of the time they are forced, even in the drama serial Hamsafar the “misunderstanding” was stretched beyond the limit. The viewers are sick and tired of watching such scenarios.

Habs Episode 18 & 19 Story Review

Zoya’s track was used desperately and unconvincingly to create this misunderstanding between Ayesha and Basit. It was understandable why Ayesha thought she could not tell Basit the truth but the way Ayesha lied to Basit about her whereabouts made no sense. She could easily have told him that she had gone to see her mother but she chose to lie. The Ayesha-Fahad meeting scene in last week’s episode was funny because Ayesha’s formal look at such a time was just as senseless as this entire track as a whole. This misunderstanding was forced into the story and I am still not certain why! If the writer(s) were hoping that the viewers would desperately wait for Basit and Ayesha to get back together then they were seriously mistaken. The drama could easily have ended by showing Basit falling in love with Ayesha, Bano, and Fahad getting married.

I found the dinner scene with Fahad and his mother hilarious. Fahad knew Basit was acting “strangely” and he could guess why but even then he continued to compliment Ayesha because obviously, his dil was squeaky clean. Common sense definitely left the room when this scene started. Later on, the poor guy was “shocked” at Basit’s behavior even though he knows about his friend’s state of mind better than anyone else. What Basit did was wrong, there’s no doubt about that but what Fahad and Ayesha did was just plain stupid.

The only good thing about these two episodes was Zoya’s track. I always felt that Aamir was taking Zoya for a ride but he definitely kept his end of the bargain. It was refreshing watching him stand by Zoya unlike before. Bobbi Phupo’s backstory was also revealed in these episodes but even after everything she said, Zoya’s mother was not too convinced. I also liked the way Bano was happy for her sister even though she misses having someone who will be by her side through thick and thin. I expected Bano to step in and explain the actual situation to Basit but the writer(s) clearly want to prolong the misunderstanding so that Bano and Fahad can bond while trying to resolve the issue.

Final Remarks

Habs has been an entertaining play with its highs and lows. The discrepancies and shortcomings in the script till now were easy to ignore but after this episode, it is really difficult for a viewer such as me, who looks for logic in the script to take Ayesha-Basit track seriously. The side tracks are definitely much more well-written than the main track. I just hope Bano’s track has a good, logical ending.

Habs Episode 16 & 17 Story Review

These two episodes of Habs mainly covered Sadia’s exit from the drama and its aftermath. I must say that episode 15 in particular set the bar really high in terms of intensity and performances therefore I had great expectations from these episodes. Episode 16 was definitely better than the one that aired this week. There were some scenes in the recent episode which were crucial to the plot yet apart from a weak script; some of the performances were not as impressive as before. Am I the only one who actually looks forward to Bano’s scenes more than any other? Feroze Khan’s performance in these two episodes stood out more than that of Ushna Shah’s perhaps because Ayesha’s character was more annoying than usual! Bano and Zoya’s track still holds my attention sometimes even more than the main track. Dania Anwer and Janice Tessa’s performances never falter. I absolutely love Hina Rizvi as Bobby Phupo. These actors and characters have always been the most refreshing element of the drama. Habs continues to be a visual treat. The director has gone out of his way more than once to make sure that the visuals always deliver even when the script fails.

Realizations and Regrets

Basit’s initial reaction to his mother’s illness and later on the emotional turmoil after her death was the focus of attention right from the beginning of episode 16. The entire focus of the writer was on showing how Basit never learned how to establish and retain relationships. By the end of the latest episode, he was more than willing to unlearn everything he had believed in till now and start afresh. When Sadia came back home after her stay at the hospital, I am certain I am not the only one who thought that she would survive. Ultimately, it was her guilt and Basit’s refusal to forgive her that took her life. Irsa Ghazal performed her part really well even though just like many other characters there were certain aspects of her character that did not make a lot of sense at times. Just like Basit, she never accepted her mistake wholeheartedly. Her apologies and explanations always had ifs and buts. She expected Ayesha to make the sacrifices needed to make Basit believe in love but I always felt as if she did not regret leaving her husband. The biggest regret she should have had was leaving her son behind but even that guilt was shown in more of a subtle manner than an open admission of guilt. It always seemed as if the rejection and hatred she got from Basit hurt her more than regretting her decisions. She “understood” why Basit treated her like that but her overall approach was more mechanical and practical than anything else. There were obviously many emotional scenes, my favorite one being the birthday scene in episode 15 which resonated with me even though the screenplay was not the best.

I found Ayesha’s attitude towards Basit right after Sadia’s death really odd. It was easy to understand why she was being so bitter towards him but even then it came across as strange especially coming from someone who is supposed to be sensible. She lashed out at him as if it was her mother who had passed away. Gradually, however, she started understanding what Basit was going through and asked him to have that one last conversation with his mother that he could not have during her lifetime. I had huge expectations from this ‘meeting’ but honestly speaking it was an epic fail. This scene should have been shot with Basit alone, Ayesha’s presence there was unnecessary. Even though Ayesha played a major role in bringing Basit there but she did not need to be right there with him when he was having this conversation which was something entirely personal. It is impossible for someone like Basit to open up like that in someone’s presence irrespective of the circumstances. Sadia’s death was used by the writer to show the change in Basit’s behavior which couldn’t have come otherwise. He is still learning but there was definitely a big difference in his attitude.

Habs Episode 16 & 17 Story Review

Since Basit has been through so much in life, it would have been nice to see him seeking professional help but we all know that is most often forbidden territory for our drama makers. Even when they decide to go down that road, these tracks are always half-baked and hardly ever impactful. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that Ayesha has taken up the role of a therapist in Basit’s life even know I honestly feel she herself needs help since her social skills have not been her strongest point.

Bano and Zoya

Bano and Zoya are the highlights of every single episode. It is definitely strange that the leading characters do not make sense at times but these two characters have been etched out brilliantly. Bano is a beautiful, layered character that has been presented on-screen with the utmost precision. She never disappoints even when in her weakest moments, she is graceful and inspiring. Zoya’s character is the complete opposite but it has also been written exceptionally well. She is flawed to the core yet somehow I feel for her. She would have been a different person had her mother given her the love and affection she yearns for. These tracks have always kept my interest alive.

Final Remarks

I am definitely looking forward to finding out where Zoya’s track lead and I am wondering if Bano will find her soulmate in Basit’s best friend. As for Ayesha and Basit’s track, apart from Feroze Khan and Ushna Shah’s on-screen chemistry, there isn’t much which makes me look forward to their scenes. Ayesha appeared to be Basit’s new mommy more than his wife after Sadia’s demise. Sometimes it feels as if this track and some of the side tracks have been written by two different people.

Habs Episode 15 – Riveting Performances

This latest episode of Habs belonged to the phenomenal actors in this drama who always impress with their outstanding portrayals. The director, just like always, deserves credit for capturing every single expression and emotion with utmost precision. The birthday scene was mind-blowing; it was powerful but not overdramatic. While Habs’ script can be dodgy at times, especially the characters, the writer has managed to avoid quite a few clichés. Bobby phupo is one example; she had a difficult life, she is the “phupo” but she is not bitter. Basit is scared of getting close to his wife due to his past but he is not disrespectful or spoiled. Bano is a docile daughter but she is also a strong woman who refuses to play the victim. This drama actually has such an interesting variety of strong women – flawed but strong in their own ways. Even the greedy mother is likable at times. Janice Tessa stands out as a teenager who wants a better life and does not get the love she wants at home. Even though she is anything but “perfect”, I find myself feeling for Zoya.

Basit and Ayesha’s Track

This episode focused more on Basit’s relationship with his mother and it ended on an emotional note. Everything that went on with Ayesha’s family was more interesting than Ayesha’s track which is somewhat repetitive at the moment. Basit’s outburst and the flashbacks later on once again helped the viewers understand his mindset. The viewers knew right from the beginning that he was deprived of his mother’s love at a young age. But it is only now that we are getting to see what he went through when she left. Everything about his behavior makes more sense and is easier to relate to after watching the flashback scenes. The letters and cards also showed how long he held on to hope and how desperately he wanted to communicate with his mother. The surprise birthday party definitely triggered him which is why he resorted to calling her mother out in public even though till now he had kept his feelings private.

Habs Episode 15 – Riveting Performances

The oddest thing about Ayesha’s recent behavior had to be her reaction when Basit caught her red-handed with his belongings. She was clearly violating his personal space especially because her “status” in his life has been made really clear right from the start. It is difficult to decide at times who is being more unreasonable! While Basit has a clear reason to keep his distance, the only reason Ayesha is not happy is because she got herself in a marital arrangement that does not offer love. Very often, I also feel as if Ayesha is simply “bored” and if Basit lets her work, she will not be so unhappy with her life. The writer has tried to convey that since Ayesha holds her self-respect really dear being dependent on Basit is really difficult for her but it is not being conveyed in the best way. Basit is definitely “warming up” to his new companion even though he tried his best not to. I am waiting to see where this track goes from here.

Basit’s mother once again lectured Ayesha about how important it was for Basit that this relationship lasted. I feel that these dialogues and scenes have been added to this track in order to give Ayesha a reason to stay. Other than that, these dialogues do not go well with the decision this mother made herself many years back. This character also tends to be confusing at times but the performance is such that even with all the confusion you want Basit to forgive his mother.

Ayesha’s Family

Ayesha’s family held my interest throughout the episode. From Bano telling Jawad off to Zoya standing her ground, all of it was an absolute treat to watch. The performances are beyond amazing and the entire atmosphere of the house has been shown so convincingly that you feel every single thing these characters go through. The caring phupo and sister make up for the mother’s toxicity. Even the mother’s toxicity comes from her deprivation, she is looking out for her children and herself because she has to manage on her own. I have been wondering what she did with the money she took from Basit. Did she buy the house? We don’t know yet but clearly she still desperately wants Bano to work so that she keeps on getting her monthly income to spend on the house expenses.

Final Remarks

Habs is essentially a drama about relationships which shows that without the warmth of relationships, people suffer and suffocate irrespective of which class of the society they belong to. Most of the characters in the drama; the leading and the supporting ones have either lost in love in some way or are looking for love. Except for Basit and Ayesha’s relationship, most aspects of the story make perfect sense. In this episode, the birthday reminder was one of those scenes which come across as comical. How could this mother whose entire life revolves around her son now forget that this was his birthday? And most importantly how come the wife did not even know? Such scenes make you question the script more than once every week. However, as I said earlier, Habs’ execution could not have been more perfect. Apart from that, the performances have been outstanding. This episode belonged to Feroze Khan, in particular, Irsa Ghazal’s performance was superb especially her expressions in the birthday scene were perfect. Dania Anwer impresses as Bano every single time and I absolutely love Hina Rizvi as Bobby Phupo. I hope Ayesha’s character becomes more interesting in the upcoming episode because it is gradually going off track.

Habs – An Overview

Habs has been on air for 13 weeks now and it is the kind of drama that grows on you. Even though the characters are flawed and some of the scenarios not too convincing but there are certain aspects of the drama which are appealing enough to keep you engaged. Most importantly it keeps your interest alive. Initially, I did not tune into the drama because of the way it was promoted by ARY. Firstly, the writers’ names are not mentioned specifically which gives the impression that the script is somehow a product of “team effort”. This definitely makes you wonder if the content creators actually took the storyline seriously. I am guessing that Aliya Makhdoom wrote the script based on the directions given by the producers therefore they have given some credit to their content team as well. Secondly, the one-liner used by ARY to introduce the storyline is misleading. ”Is love really needed for marriage” isn’t the best way to explain the content of a drama that rests on much more than just that. This particular line seems to be a way to sum up Basit’s mother’s decision to leave his father more than Basit and Ayesha’s own track so far.

More than once I felt as if the writers have taken inspiration from not just the Bollywood film everyone is talking about but also Pehli Si Mohabbat. Not sure if I am the only one who is getting those vibes. The script overall lacks originality even though such a story could have been written without taking ideas from other dramas or films. The one good thing about the script is that, unlike many other dramas which are designed for commercial success, this one does not bank on the bechari aurat or the toxic man for ratings.

This flawed script has definitely been given the right treatment, the credit for which goes to Musaddiq Malik, who aced his directorial debut by putting everything he has learned about drama making till now to good use. He has not only relied on presenting a visually pleasing set-up overall but he has also made sure that the actors give their best. Nothing about the drama or the scenes is overdramatic but almost all the emotions are translated and captured convincingly by the director.

The Story So Far & Relationships

Habs’ story mainly revolves around Ayesha (Ushna Shah) and Basit (Feroze Khan). Ayesha was introduced as a practical young woman who always spoke her mind. Her mother (Saba Faisal) is a widow and an opportunist for whom survival comes before everything else. Her daughters’ happiness is secondary to her right from the get-go. Basit (Feroze Khan) also belongs to a dysfunctional family. His mother (Irsa Ghazal) left his father when he was really young and married someone she loved because she felt her marriage was loveless. This left Basit questioning the institution and sanctity of marriage. His father passed away and according to his will Basit had to get married in order to get access to his accounts. Ayesha ends up working in Basit’s office and eventually out of sheer desperation Basit asks her to marry him in order to get access to the money which he needs to run his business. Ayesha’s mother manipulates the situation and takes money from Basit in a tactful manner in order to make the most of the circumstances.

The sidetracks are sometimes more interesting than the main track with Bano’s (Dania Anwar) character taking the lead. Dania Anwar has acted superbly throughout. She is Ayesha’s older sister, the wisest in the family, and her bond with Ayesha, in particular, is a breath of fresh air. Ayesha’s phupo Bobby (Hina Rizvi) is another interesting character that tends to go overboard at times. She never got married and runs a business of her own. She breaks the typical phupo stereotype. Zoya (Janice Tessa) the younger sister is a complete rebel unlike the other two. Fahad (Mussadiq Malik) is Basit’s only friend who continuously gives him much-needed advice.

Habs – An Overview

My Thoughts

Initially, Ayesha’s character reminded me of the character Ushna Shah played in Aakhir Kab Tak but that was definitely a better etched-out character than that of Ayesha. As the story progressed, Ayesha’s character confused me more than once. I was especially surprised when she decided to marry Basit to “help him out”. There was definitely a reason to believe that she was slightly swayed away by his charm but apparently that was never the case. Also, Ayesha’s expectations from the marriage did not make a lot of sense either. A character that was introduced as a really wise one gradually started making such “dumb” mistakes right after getting married that you couldn’t help but question her moves. The only relatable aspect of this character that made me root for Ayesha even after everything was her constant confusion being translated on screen brilliantly by Ushna Shah.

Basit’s character is equally confusing, especially after the marriage. While it is easy to understand why he is scared of working on his relationship with Ayesha, I am still wondering why he acts like he respects the institution of marriage! This nikkah was like a business contract therefore his reaction in the latest episode when Ayesha asked for a divorce made absolutely no sense. If he respects Ayesha, he has definitely not shown it except for the basic courtesy which has also not been a constant. Basit’s relationship with Ayesha can be termed as toxic and perhaps a mellowed-down version of the rich spoiled brats who want their way. His mannerisms and Feroze’s acting, in particular, make this character acceptable. Basit’s mother expects Ayesha to “fix” him but so far Ayesha is not too keen on that. All these characters have strange expectations from each other.

The relationship dynamics in Ayesha’s household make perfect sense and add interesting side tracks to the story. I find myself completely involved in Bano’s story and enjoy watching her on-screen. Even the greedy mother’s character has been acted-out so well that her scenes are entertaining to watch. All these characters and the performances add to the entertainment value of the drama.

Final Remarks

Even though Ayesha and Basit’s track and their characters make little sense at times, the performances and the treatment given to the drama make it worthwhile. Every actor has given the role that they are playing their best which makes such a big difference. It is one of those dramas I look forward to watching and even if the story developments frustrate me at times, it always entertains.

Haara Dil Episode 9 Review — Twist & Shout

So this episode of Haara Dil had some twists and turns and some new characters. The episode starts with this scene at the train station where police reaches with the help of babysitter Kausar’s husband’s help to search for Sami. Upon seeing the police Kausar panics and leaves Sami on a bench and there we see a really terrible performance by the lady who shouts “Arrey behen apna bacha to le jao”. Anyway this woman grabs police’s and Abrar’s attention and Abrar is ecstatic to see Sami well and good.

Abrar takes Sami home meanwhile we witness a conversation between Zeba and her daughter Naila which ends with Naila giving some shady remarks about Fehmi indicating that Fehmi might not be what we have thought her to be so far. On the other side Amtul and Areej are making Afaan believe that the whole Sami’s abduction story is too dramatic and too filmy to be true. They are adamant that this was Abrar’s way of making Afaan pay ransom for Sami that he could later use for himself lol right?

Zeba sees this as her chance for pitching the idea of marrying Fehmi to Abrar. She convinces Abrar that hiring another nanny is out of question and the only way he can take better care of Sami is if he remarries and that Fehmi will be a wise choice. Abrar is struggling between his love for his deceased wife and his love for his son seeing no way out he decides to marry Fehmi without telling his daughters.

Haara Dil Episode 9 Review --- Twist & Shout

Abrar gets married and the shadiness is again introduced when maulvi sahab mentions haq meher. Here we are introduced to this nephew of Fehmi who is clearly a guy who loves shortcuts. He wants to go abroad and wants a beautiful wife no surprises there and he is thrilled to find out that Abrar has two beautiful daughters so clearly more will unfold on this front in the coming episodes.

After nikkah when Abrar reaches home he finds a different Momina. As predicted in the previous review Sami has indeed come home to a different sister now one who dearly loves him. Momina assures Abrar that from now on she will be taking care of Sami and that he doesn’t have to worry a bit about anything anymore. Abrar is rattled because the only reason he married Fehmi was because he needed someone to take care of Sami and right after the nikkah here his daughter is totally devoted to Sami and Abrar is utterly shook and guilty and probably wanted to shout his lungs out at this turn of events.

Abeer is still the same and gives Momina a disgusted look after seeing her bonding with Sami. Meanwhile Amtul is all set to make Zawar’s sister Fizza her daughter in law. Fizza will probably appear in the next episode and Areej is clearly not pleased with this idea.

Next episodes will include some interesting developments like Momina and Abeer finding out about Abrar’s marriage and Arham finding out why Fizza is coming over to their place. Things are about to get more interesting so stay tuned.

How’d you like this episode of Haara Dil? Yayy or nayy?

Haara Dil Episode 8 Review — Nicely Done

So a new day a new episode new reasons to stan and new reasons to diss too. The best thing about last episode was the neutrality with which the characters were portrayed especially female characters and somehow this episode lacked that. The part where Fehmida and Zeba are discussing Abrar and the prospects of Fehmi marrying him the same old element of hidden evil motives is manifested. Fehmi has finally met Momina and clearly is displeased with the fact that Momina and Abeer aren’t married yet which might present difficulties to her future plans of marrying their father; good ol’ cliche. Also Zeba gives Fehmi this weird look which was hard to read, what is she to gain from this matrimony hopefully something less cliched.

Moving on, Kausar (the babysitter) has abducted Sami which was a much needed twist in order to make Momina and Abeer realize that Sami needs them and for them to finally accept him. Looks like this mishap was a blessing in disguise because a trauma as big as this was indeed needed for both Momina and Abeer to finally get over their mother’s death and move on. By the end of the episode Momina dreams of her mother confronting her for not taking care of her baby and being so brutally callous and inhumane towards an infant, so it is safe to assume that Sami will return to a different home; a home where he is loved by his sisters may be.

It is also safe to assume that this incident will make Abrar consider the prospects of getting married more seriously, pretty sure he wouldn’t be able to trust any baby sitter for the rest of his life so new wife and new mommy for Sami it is. This is bound to bring more complications to the already complicated father-daughter relationship that Abrar and his daughters have at the moment.

Haara Dil Episode 8 Review --- Nicely Done

On Arham and Momina’s front things are still bleak and somewhat on a stand still. But Amtul is planning something big and most probably that plan, as Areej predicted, includes Zawar’s sister. We hear Amtul tell Areej that Arham would do anything for Areej’s happiness so presumably Amtul plans on faux jeopardizing Areej’s married life which will make Arham marry Zawar’s sister but this is just a theory yet to be proven right.

Afan continues to be an angel of a friend that he is and comes to Sami’s rescue with the help of his contacts Sami will be reaching home soon safe and sound. Meanwhile Fehmi and Zeba also help a lot through this crisis for which Abrar is very thankful.

It can be seen that like the clear sky after a storm this crisis is making all the characters look at things more clearly and in a different light. Things are sure to get more interesting so stay tuned.

Haara Dil Episode 7 Review — Super Refreshing

One more episode down and we have more reasons to stan it than diss it. Unlike uncountable other Pakistani drama serials Haara Dil has a refreshing take on the characters, it doesn’t divide them in good and evil and that showed so well in this episode of the drama. Life isn’t black and white we can not draw a line and explain this world’s existence by two traits good and evil. Life is complex it is grey it isn’t binary but more like fractions, complicated with many explanations and this drama explores that very well.

We have been introduced with many new characters in the last two episodes including Zeba, Fehmi and the new baby sitter. It is commendable how these characters aren’t portrayed to be inherently good or inherently evil they have got both sides. They don’t play sati savitri or dayan. Neighbors and especially single working women who have developed a crush on a single father have forever been demonized by our drama serials. They are so often the women who want the money or the house or the entire property basically they always have evil and selfish motives to be nice to the people they are being nice to but not here.

Fehmi is independent almost happy but she can not shake the loneliness off which is very human. Zeba is genuinely concerned about Sami and Abrar but she has her limits and loses temper when too much is asked of her which is very human also. After Shagufta’s death and his daughters withdrawal from him Abrar has also become very lonely as he himself mentions when he compares this tragedy with the time when he had lost his entire family in an earthquake and said that the former is more painful and isolating for him than the latter, again a very human thing to feel.

Haara Dil Episode 7 Review --- Super Refreshing

Also the protagonists Momina and Arham aren’t flawless people. Momina is stubborn and wouldn’t let go off this callousness even tho she knows her father and Arham need her support as much as she needs their’s. Both Abeera and Momina are too proud to admit that they are hurting and could use some support right now. We don’t often see the leading lady in our shows playing the bad guy she is always kind, forgiving and over the top nice but again that is where Haara Dil wins Momina is kind but she has her limits. She doesn’t know how to deal with such strong emotions and all that is happening and we can clearly see her struggling to make sense of all of it. Unlike some other leading role Momina isn’t sure of herself she doesn’t know how to deal with all this. She is as clueless as any other normal human being.

Some scenes could have been better like the time Sami was crying and Momina almost held him to comfort him, that was a strong scene and could have been done better than it was. Also Arham and the third wheel friend scene had strong dialogues and could have had more impact on the audience had it been done a bit better.

As predictable as it was Fehmi is meant to be Abrar’s love interest. Usually romance in this age is portrayed as cringy and even disgusting at times but unusually what Abrar and Fehmi have is very innocent and almost like teenage love. They both want someone to be with and also like each other’s company which is very well portrayed so kudos for that.

Momina and Arham are still struggling with their situation meanwhile Abeer continues to rebel against everyone and everything. Zeba has introduced the idea of Fehmi’s marriage to Abrar in Fehmi’s head and we can see that Fehmi agrees. Afaan continues to be the amazing friend that he is to Abrar meanwhile we can see that the baby sitter character is very irresponsible. In new developments due to long absence Abrar has lost his job, now how he will deal with this crisis remains to be seen with many other things.

For those who haven’t seen it yet I won’t spoil the show by giving away the precap of the next episode all I’ll say is stick till the end. Like a good wine this show has aged well and let’s hope it continues to do so.

On a grade of A to F how did you find this episode of Haara dil?

Haara Dil Episode 6 Review — Establishing Order

Last two episodes of Haara Dil have been very chaotic, life as known by our characters has gone upside down. As our characters lurk through this unknown territory that their life has become, in this episode, each one of them seeks to establish some sort of order in this chaotic universe and tries to look for ways to make things normal again.

So far the pace has been amazing, we have witnessed so much in the span of just six episodes that it feels like we have been a part of this Haara Dil Universe for a long long time which, I believe, is a win win for the whole team. There were some strong performances again starting with Rabya Kulsoom as Abeer. Abeer’s character development has been one of my favorite so far. She was portrayed as a jolly, hot headed yet immature baby sister character of the lead role Momina in the beginning but she has now grown into a wise woman. Call it the wisdom acquired by ‘gardish e dauran’ but seeing her spread wisdom to her already wise elder sister Momina is very reassuring. She is still very hot headed though.

Momina on the other hand has gone from a level headed person to someone whose better judgement has been clouded by emotions. She struggles to establish a balance between her kind nature and her need to stay true to her mother’s memory by becoming distant and callous to everyone who caused her mother harm. She finds herself in love with Arham but is unable to oversee the fact that he is Amtul’s son; the woman who is the cause of all this misery according to Momina. Naturally Arham and Momina’s love life is in turbulence right now.

Talking of some powerful scenes and quotes we finally see Afaan talk some sense into Amtul. He directly calls her out on how psychotic her obsession with destroying the people she dislikes is. And finally asks her ‘ke bhai masla kya hai tumhein Abrar ki family se?’ That was a heartfelt conversation they had especially when Afaan points out that she is the reason why nobody’s happy, if only she could be happy for her son and in general for everyone no one will be in this much agony. Even though she didn’t say anything in return her expressions looked like she actually agreed a bit with her husband for once.

Haara Dil Episode 6 Review --- Establishing Order

Arham said which, I believe, was the strongest quote of today’s episode. Amtul keeps yapping about family honor and respect and what not, as usual, and Arham says “Jis izat ki apko itni parwa hai wohi izat kabhi kabhi dusron ko bhi de dia karein”. As for Arham we see him fighting both his family (his mother) and Momina to keep this relationship from breaking.

On Abrar’s front the baby is named Sami and we get to see more of Zeba Behen who is the friendly neighbor and was very good friends with Shagufta. Abrar is struggling with his newly gained status of  ‘single dad’ and constantly needs Zeba’s help to take care of his son since both of his daughters refuse to accept Sami as their responsibility or brother. Zeba does seem like someone who genuinely cares about this family but in doing so she causes more tension between Abrar and his daughters.

In new developments we are introduced to Fehmi who is a nurse and Zeba’s old friend and possibly the woman Abrar will marry in the coming episodes. Fehmi is a single very lively character assayed by Javeriya Abassi. By the end of the episode Zeba suggests that Abrar should get married because his son needs a mother and that is overheard by Momina who is naturally shell shocked by the idea.

Abeer tries to talk Momina into marrying Arham as soon as possible through out the episode because according to her the only thing their father cares about now is his son and they both need to secure their future one way or another. Abrar on the other hand is disappointed by how cold his daughters have become. Arham yearns to establish the lost connection with Momina and we can see that his patience is running thin.

The drama is about to tackle another taboo, old age marriage and second marriage and we are anxiously waiting for how it does so.

How did you find this episode of Haara Dil? Yay or Nay or Yanny (pun totally intended)?

Haara Dil Episode 4 Review — Cradle To Grave

Another episode down and so am I, the drama is getting better with each episode. It not only highlights some important issues like social status hierarchy, old age pregnancy and toxic masculinity at the one time but also never loses the sight of the main plot that revolves around two young people and their love for each other. Some of the dialogues in this episode were really hardcore and hit you right where it hurts. Also I love how this drama has been edited, each scene so well calculated and timed nothing seems dragged at all.

So Arham is naturally shook after hearing this news and suggests an abortion like everyone else so far but Momina tells him that her father will never let that happen because it’s not just a baby it’s a baby boy a much awaited and much wished for son. A son who her father thinks is God’s miracle for him. Momina’s disappointment in herself and her father is becoming very clear with every episode. She is angry and lays awake at night wondering why she isn’t enough and that’s the last thing any parent wants their kid to think but it is what it is.

Moving on Shagufta finds Momina and Arham having this discussion and assures him that she wants her daughter to be happy more than anything but it’s not that simple she is also responsible for this unborn baby now. Arham eventually suggests that he should at least get a nikkah as soon as possible and asks his parents for it upon which Amtul throws her typical “aren’t you dying to marry that sorcerer” tantrum at him. Afaan is smarter than that and as soon as he finds Arham alone he asks him what’s the hurry and finds out that his friend is expecting a baby.

Afaan tries to knock some sense into his friend Abrar but to no avail, Abrar is just ecstatic to finally have a son everything else is of little consequence to him.

Haara Dil Episode 4 Review --- Cradle To Grave

This brings us to the second half of the episode where Amtul takes her daughter Areej to the same gynecologist as Shagufta’s and finds out about the pregnancy and like the toxic person that she has been portrayed to be she especially invites the entire Abrar family over for a dinner so she could reveal it in front of everyone since she doesn’t know that everyone else already knows.

Here we see some really clash of the titans level exchange of words, toxic and mean things are said on both sides. Abrar calls out Amtul for having the sick mentality of prying in other people’s lives while Amtul calls him out over his toxic masculinity and the need to have a son even at the price of social humiliation and his wife’s life. In no time the kids start talking too, where Arham asks Abeer to tone it down and stop disrespecting his mother which really makes Abeer lose her cool.

All this drama takes toll on Shagufta and she is taken to a hospital where she gives premature birth to a baby boy but dies doing that. Both Abeer and Momina are convinced it is their fahter’s and Amtul’s fault and naturally we expect some serious family issues in coming episodes. It won’t be easy for either of them to forgive their father or Amtul for killing their mother.

Will Momina and Arham be able to love each other even after all this, will they be ready to fight for this love even after all that went down, how will they stay true to this love in the face of all these adversaries is something we will find out together in the coming episodes of Haara Dil.

Do share how you thought today’s episode was.

Haara Dil Episode 3 Review — Developments

So yeah another episode down and a lot went down in it. Starting with Momina finding out the dreaded secret she will be having a baby brother soon woahhhh panic attack. Momina is rattled to find out that her parents are having a baby that too a son and that her father had been wanting a son all this time not only does she feel betrayed as a child but also as a daughter. She feels like she has failed her parents somehow which is why they need a son and that is how Abeer feels as well later in the episode when she finds out and confronts her parents.

They both say some pretty mean things to their parents in general and mother in particular which I do not understand. It is shocking but sit down with your parents talk it out think about the next move and how you’ll deal with it like ADULTS for Pete’s sake. In other news Zawar (Areej’s husband) is the ghar damad now and we can clearly see that Arham and Zawar aren’t exactly bromance material. Also the dude who plays Zawar can be pretty bad at acting at times.

Haara Dil Episode 3 Review --- Developments

Since now Zawar is living at their place he asks Areej what’s this Momina story all about which is when we find out that Abrar had lost his family in an earthquake and Afaan’s family had taken him in. Amtul and Afaan are shown having a conversation about surprise surprise Arham and Momina yet AGAIN. For once Afaan confronts Amtul about how her standards of judging people are superficial and lame and she needs to see people beyond their social status. He also makes it super clear that Arham wants to marry Momina and he will completely support their decision.

Meanwhile when Amtul talks to Arham about it he tells her he will be moving to Canada after his exams because he doesn’t want to live here. Amtul is a mother after all so when she finally realizes that the only way Arham will stop brooding is if she agrees to this marriage upon hearing this Arham is euphoric but she says that Momina will have to live by her standards not by Arham’s which is super insulting Momina isn’t anyone’s slave she is as human as these weirdos are but long live Saas-Bahu culture.

Haara Dil Episode 3 Review --- Developments

Anyway Amtul and Arham are at Abrar’s place again with the let bygones be bygones attitude and are adamant ke “Date set kiye bina nahi jayen ge”. Meanwhile Arham makes Momina believe that he has given up and is marrying the woman his mother wants him to. As they both reach home Momina sees Amtul Aunty the dearest and realizes what had just happened, she just like Arham is over the moon but she just won’t show.

Haara Dil Episode 3 Review --- Developments

So mangni time my dudes. They are finally engaged. After everyone’s gone Abeer suggests that Momina should tell Arham about the pregnancy because he is family now. Arham did the impossible but he notices that Momina still isn’t pleased. He takes Momina and Abeer out for a treat and asks her what else is there that’s keeping her from being happy and in the final scene we see Momina saying “Arham… Arham Ami pregnant hain.”

End scene.

Haara Dil Episode 3 Review --- Developments

This obviously rattles Arham too. What happens next remains a mystery till next week. So far 10/10 for maintaining pace, good editing there’s no dragging. Script can be really good at times and really bad as well never inbetween. The direction is good and as usual their romance makes me cringe even tho Momina isn’t even that romantic.

Do share how good you thought this episode was. Till next week adios amigos.

Haara Dil Episode 23 Story Review — Necessary Drag

So episode 23 aired today and it felt like a much needed drag. The play has almost reached it’s end and every story arch is reaching it’s conclusion more or less except the Amtul-Momina animosity. Something as strong as Momina’s abduction is needed to bring Amtul’s heart around. This may not unrevel as I am predicting but there is no other reason why the writers would bring such a huge catastrophy in the story when it is about to end. It is hard to see how right now but I am hoping this will translate into melting of Amtul’s heart. Even the precap for the next episode hinted a bit towards this direction. Arham had a breakdown and said some pretty sad things while Amtul was eavesdropping let’s hope this is the much needed twist to bring Amtul finally around.
On the other hand Areej is finding it really hard to cope with Zawar’s absence while instead of being supportive and understanding all Amtul can do is ridicule her for having emotions or even processing those emotions. The already weak relationship that Afaan and Amtul had still hasn’t recovered from Amtul’s divorce fiasco. Amtul blames Afaan for being so involved in Abraar’s kids that he has started neglecting his own and as always she conveniently blames Afaan and Abraar’s friendship for every bad thing that has ever happened to them.

fghjhgjj_Fotor_Collage
Faraz and Abeer were finally getting married and Abeer after a very long time was finally happy and so unburdened by sadness but it all turned into yet another trauma when Momina got kidnapped by Qasid right before Abeer’s wedding.
Fehmi has become one of my favorite characters again. Her character development has been so amazing that when Qasid called her to arrange a meet up she slammed him so hard you could almost hear it. Fehmi has become the much needed support both Abeer and especially Momina wanted at this point. She also suggests the idea that Amtul might have something to do with the abduction and it infuriated Arham. So far it isn’t clear who shot the other guy and aided Qasid’s escape. There is no evidence that would prove Fehmi’s theory but there isn’t any proof that would reject it either.
The chemistry that has been developing between Momina and Arham in past few episodes is really good. It hasn’t been better before. Overall Danish Taimoor has done a good job here and Hiba Bukhari did justice to her character too. Abeer as always has my heart for her performance is always phenomenal. And Seemi Pasha as Amtul is a show stealer.

Haara Dil Episode 23 Story Review --- Necessary Drag

Haara Dil Episode 22 Story Review — Climaxing

So episode 22 aired today and it focused more on Areej and Zawar’s relationship and followed the trajectory that was precalculated in last review. Zawar is using his relationship with Areej to manipulate Arham into divorcing Momina and marrying Fizza instead. Other than that Areej and Zawar never really had a strong enough relationship that was worth fighting for and above such petty tactics. Even though it was implied from the beginning that Areej married Zawar out of love but as the story has disclosed it wasn’t the actual case. It was more of an arranged marriage and at the time both didn’t have any serious objections against it but as the time passed they grew more and more distant. Even though Zawar failed to fall in love Areej did.

Arham finds himself responsible for ruining his sister’s marriage but Areej reassures him that there never really was anything to save in her marriage to begin with. Areej has been portrayed as a very strong headed character since the very beginning to see her breakdown like this was surely saddening for both the audience and Arham. To save his sister’s marriage Arham pays Zawar a visit and tries to talk him out of divorce. But Zawar comes up with the counter offer that he will not divorce Areej if Arham marries Fizza. Arham naturally finds that nonnegotiable and walks away. Amtul is devastated to see her daughter suffer like this and blames Momina as always.

40758211 338628280043747 7961882516443365376 n Fotor Collage

Fehmi is turning out to be an amazing character, her character development so far has been the best amongst all. When Qasid calls her to do something about the situation he is in and help him out she slams him really hard and threatens him that she will testify against him in court because that is what he deserves. Fehmi has also started playing the motherly role she was originally meant to play. She takes care of Sami and is very protective of both Abeer and Momina now.

Abeer is getting married to Faraz and it is interesting because this play started with a wedding it is only fair it ends with one too. Faraz suggests the idea that Momina should live with Arham now and focus on her married life rather than focusing on Sami. This might cause some problems in upcoming episodes.
Arham and Momina are finally coming to terms with their relationship. They still argue quiet a lot but then again when there’s love there’s constant nagging each other too. Momina being the noblest of noble beings that she is once again suggests the idea of divorce and finally Arham responds the way I would have “bakwas mat karo”. At this point it is humongously annoying to see Momina be the bigger person all the time.

At last Fizza has found some of the integrity she had lost along the way and left Arham’s house to finally live with her brother.
Overall this episode was well paced well timed and character wise very well developed. It is almost the end and we can already see how that will happen and so far the conclusion doesn’t seem rushed.

Haara Dil Episode 21 Review Story — Emotionally Charged

So episode 21 is here and even though things look chaotic but we can see it ending well for everyone eventually. This one had it’s fair share of sorrows and joys. I enjoyed the part where the writers brought the complexity of characters back in the story. Fehmi was shown to have a soft corner for Momina after all and she gives her sincere and honest advice regarding her relationship with Arham. It was evident the love and affection a woman has for another woman. Fehmi has lead a life alone and has dealt with all sorts of situations she is well versed in the matters of the world so she doesn’t want Momina to make decisions that she’ll regret making later.
Ever since Fehmi’s introduction her loneliness has been shown as a major part of her personality. She longs for a family and a home and even though she finds it hard to trust the world including her step daughters she still can’t watch Momina make any decision that will leave her as lonely as Fehmi. Areej also had a change of perspective after Arham’s accident. Watching her only brother fight for his life put things in perspective for her. She realized that Arham’s love for Momina is not a phony thing it is much stronger than that. This episode also focused on Areej’s own relationship with her husband. It showed how she envies the bond shared by Momina and Arham and wishes she had something like that with her husband too.

Haara Dil Episode 21 Review Story --- Emotionally Charged
Areej and Fizza have some heated arguments and given how fragile Areej’s marriage already is it wouldn’t be far fetched to assume that Areej might have to face some consequences. It was also implied that like Amtul Zawar might use his relationship with Areej as a bargaining tool to get Fizza what she wants.
Abeer was also less hostile towards everyone in this episode including Areej and Fehmi and she has also formed a bond with Sami. This probably is because she is in love with Faraz and he makes her happy. Afaan and Momina also have a heart to heart moment in this one where Afaan expresses how much he’d like it if Momina not only considered him a father figure but also called him “baba”.
Amtul stays as bitter as always. Even after watching her son have such a close encounter with death nothing much changed. She still blames Momina for everything and is likely going to blame Momina for Areej’s problems too in the coming episodes.
Overall this episode had some strong emotional moments like Arham telling his parents that he is leaving the house. Fehmi giving Momina some sincere advice. Areej having a meltdown in front of Momina. The story is about to be concluded and all this mess is necessary chaos.

Haara Dil Episode 20 Review Story —- Hearts & Attacks

So episode 20 had some unexpected turn of events including but not limited to Fehmi’s comeback. The secret is out in the open and Amtul does not like it not one bit so she does everything in her power to restore her lost control over her household. She uses her relationship with Afaan to manipulate Arham into divorcing Momina as expected but unexpectedly this gave Afaan a heart attack and that shifted the blame from Afaan and Arham to Amtul because her sin is now bigger.

Momina being the Mother Teresa that she is couldn’t stand the idea of Afaan ad Amtul separating because of her so she leaves the house which is now her husband’s house without telling him. This situation is so redundant now. Arham feels betrayed when he comes home and finds out that Momina is gone but he doesn’t tell Afaan anything about it given the heart attack he has recently had.

The conversation between Arham and Fizza was rather commendable. Arham stood his ground and dealt the situation rather well unlike Momina who would probably have started apologizing for something she hasn’t even done. Arham reminded Fizza that she isn’t the victim here she was well aware of his feelings towards this engagement and she agreed to get engaged anyway. He also reminded her how he never made any promises or proclaimed his undying love for her so she doesn’t get to play victim.

Haara Dil Episode 20 Review Story ---- Hearts & Attacks

Momina and Abeer reach home and find out that Fehmi is living there now. She got out of jail because the police couldn’t find any proof against her according to her. Later Fehmi goes over to Afaan’s place to meet Amtul and ask her for some money in reward for her services to Amtul that’s where she sees Arham and deliberately discloses the dealings between her and Amtul. Arham decides to leave the house after this discovery as was shown in the precap.

Areej also got some screen time today and she made it clear that Momina isn’t welcome in her home. On the other front we see that Faraz and his mother have a rather peculiar conversation in which it is implied that Faraz’s mother has some sort of rivalry with Amtul but at the same time she sympathizes with Afaan. The back story hasn’t been revealed yet but the suspense is growing.

I have been commending this show on it’s pace ever since the beginning and it still delivers on that front. Danish Taimoor has been rather good in past few episodes but Hiba has been a bit disappointing. The story is about to be concluded and it is being done well. This last storm is what will put everything out of order so that things can fall in the right place at last.

Over all this episode was pretty good like it’s predecessors. How’d you find this episode of Haara Dil?

Haara Dil Episode 2 Review — Moving Forward

So episode 2 took off where episode 1 had left. Abrar and Shagufta are shell shocked over the revelation that they are expecting a third baby. Shagufta looks pretty rattled and asks Abrar to get an abortion to which Abrar suggests that they shouldn’t make any rash decisions in a hurry and consult some more doctors meanwhile Abeer and Momina are really worried about their mother’s health. Abrar wants Shagufta to reveal this news to their daughters because he thinks they will understand but Shagufta is too ashamed to tell anyone about this and keeps accusing Abrar of being selfish.

On the other side Arham and Momina meet up because Arham is angry with Momina over how she left his sister’s mehendi and didn’t give him a chance to put things right while Momina is adamant that his mother and sister reduced her existence to nothing with the way they treated her and that Arham should be able to see that. She also suggests that Arham should stop fighting his mother because of her and that if they are destined to end together they will and may I add how cringeworthy Arham’s pickup lines are like dude relax.

Amtul and Areej are shown discussing the same thing again since they have nothing better to do, Areej keeps mocking her mother for thinking that Arham respects her wishes and will marry Anoushay to which Amtul says that eventually she is one who will prevail and not Arham’s love for Momina.

Haara Dil Episode 2 Review --- Moving Forward

Afaan somehow manages to convince Amtul to accompany him to Abrar’s place and ask Abrar for Momina’s hand in marriage and no surprises there Amtul is in it just to ruin it. Shagufta is over the moon because she thinks Amtul now approves of Arham and Momina’s marriage but little does she know. As she prepares for their arrival her condition worsens and she vomits which worries Momina and Abeer further more for her health.

Cut to Momina getting ready to be presented in front of her Mother in Law to be, she is still struggling with her love for Arham and her fear of Amtul as she asks God to somehow make Amtul’s heart softer towards Momina. Afaan and Amtul arrive at their place and as expected Amtul starts with how they only eat food cooked in olive oil just to derogate Abrar and Shagufta. When Momina arrives to greet them she witnesses Amtul suggesting that a guy’s advances don’t matter unless he is encouraged by the girl and that Arham is into her because Momina let him.

Abrar goes berserk after hearing this as any dignified person would and asks Afaan and Amtul to leave because he doesn’t want his daughter to be married off in a family that doesn’t respect her, he further states that there is no love if there is no respect exactly what Amtul wanted.

Haara Dil Episode 2 Review --- Moving Forward

Arham gets really mad when he finds out what happened that is when Amtul tells him that she has a status to maintain in the society and can not let him marry the daughter of a man who was brought in their house by Afaan’s mother because he had no where else to go. The argument keeps getting worse when Arham says he won’t marry anyone that should be the end of story and leaves.

Meanwhile Abrar and Shagufta are getting as many checkups as they can to be sure what they want to do next, the doctors say mostly the same things like the pregnancy is dangerous at this age and that the abortion is pretty much out of the question.

By the end of the episode the doctor reveals the baby’s gender and it’s a BOYYYYY upon hearing that Abrar’s happiness knows no bounds and Shagufta clearly knows that any hopes of getting an abortion are dead now.

Over all the drama is going with good pace, everyone’s acting is satisfactory except Danish and the woman who plays Areej, anyone can tell how fake they look also the script can be very predictable and stupid at times.

In the pre-cap we find out thatthe next episode includes some more revelations and fierce confrontations. So fingers crossed.

Haara Dil Episode 19 Review — Revelations

So episode 19 was expected to be the episode where the big secret comes out in the open and that is exactly what happened and it was nicely done. The story has reached it’s climax and soon it will be concluded. Episode 19 not only confirmed our prediction that revelations will be seen but also the twist in the end only confirmed the predicted counter attack that Amtul would make.

The episode started on the same high note that the last episode was mostly about. Arham is ecstatic to be married to Momina and he can not hide this ecstasy to the point that he goes to see her first thing in the morning. On his way back he is seen by Fizza and naturally that brings a lot of drama. Amtul sees the couple arguing and she goes straight to Momina because to her Momina is the reason behind all this chaos. We some fiery exchange of words again and this time Abeer speaks up a bit but no harm done.

On the other front Qasid gets caught and Faraz’s mother finally comes into the picture. When Faraz explains his situation to her including the fact that he wants to marry the girl who is the sister of Amtul Afaan’s daughter in law we see that his mother feels uneasy. That could only mean that Faraz’s mother and Amtul have some history and the two don’t like each other much.

Haara Dil Episode 19 Review --- Revelations

Despite her dislike of Amtul Afaan Faraz’s mother agrees to Faraz and Abeer’s marriage. She is as supportive as Faraz had described her to be in previous episodes. On one of her shopping trips she meets Amtul and discloses the secret that Arham married Momina in Afaan’s presence and Faraz was one of the witnesses. There’s no other explanation except that she wanted to hurt Amtul which is why she told her about the marriage, anyway the secret had to come out one way or another and this was as good a way as any.

Naturally Amtul is rattled after this discovery and she takes a rather extreme step by asking Afaan for a divorce. As hinted in the previous episode Amtul is using her relationship with Afaan to manipulate Arham into giving in to her demands. She realizes that neither Momina nor Arham will let their marriage be the reason behind Amtul and Afaan’s separation.

Another noticeable thing was when Momina was talking about her father’s murderer but she didn’t mention his name but later when Amtul was referring to that murderer she mentioned him by his name ‘Qasid’ and Arham noticed that. Whether the fact that Amtul asked Fehmi to kill Momina will eventually come to light or not is still not known but I guess this episode sure hinted in that direction.

Amtul has sure put her son and daughter in law in a difficult position. How this conflict resolves is something we are here to witness so stay tuned.

Haara Dil Episode 18 Review — Intense

This episode is so far the best this drama serial has produced, the sheer magnitude of things that went down in this one is maddening. This episode sure as hell was a roller coaster ride from one intense moment to another it sure left the audience out of breath and out of their minds by the time it ended. The drama serial is about to conclude and it was evident from this episode because many story arcs reached the climax.
The episode started on a very low note with Qasid threatening to kill Sami unless Momina agrees to marry him. The whole scenario was heart wrenchingly sad and blood boiling at the same time. You feel sad for Momina’s helplessness and at the same time you feel this smothering hatred for Qasid and Fehmi that it makes your blood boil.
While this is happening at home Abeer is at the police station watching the cctv footage of her father being murdered and the moment of reckoning comes for Qasid when she recognizes him. Faraz has turned out to be a real gentleman and the way he has supported Abeer and Momina through their ordeals is sure commendable.
On their way back Abeer and Faraz find themselves in a traffic jam caused by a protest and at that moment the audience is convinced by the time they’d reach home Momina wouldn’t be Momina anymore but Mrs. Qasid. But it was Momina’s lucky day and for the audience too who have been rooting for Momina and Arham since the beginning Arham comes for Momina’s rescue when she needed it more than ever.

Haara Dil Episode 18 Review --- Intense
The writers deserve all the praise for how well written this scene was. Since Arham didn’t feel surprised after seeing Faraz when he came that gives us reason to believe that Faraz must have called Arham and explained the situation which is why Arham headed towards Momina’s home but what Arham didn’t know was the forced nikkah ceremony that was going on and even though it took him by surprise he dealt with it very maturly so that he could give police some time to arrive.
Qasid manages to run away but the police arrests Fehmi and Momina is saved. This situation rattled Arham so much that he makes an impulsive and independent decision for himself for the first time in his life. I have praised Arham and Afaans relationship before and I will do it again. The father-son chemistry that these two share is so rare and that makes the heart melt.
Afaan finally does what was expected of him for so long now, he apologizes to Momina and tells her that he wants to make ammends by protecting the three of them and taking their responsibility. Arham and Momina marry each other in the same nikkah ceremony that was originally arranged for by Qasid so yeah I liked the sense of humor there.
Afaan takes Abeer, Momina and Sami to his home and tells Amtul that they will live with them now because he feels responsible for them and they wouldn’t be safe alone. Amtul as expected creates a lot of drama but in order to soften the blow Afaan and Arham have decided to keep the nikkah secret for now.
The episode ended with a typical girl on girl trash talk where Fizza reminded Momina who the boss was but the poor girl has no idea she is talking to Mrs. Arham now.
Over all the episode was very thrilling and well written and well acted I might add. It was hinted in the end that Amtul and Afaan’s marriage might suffer because of these recent developments, how this story line works out is something we’ll have to wait to find out.

Haara Dil Episode 17 Review — Interesting

So 17 episodes down and this one was a significant improvement on it’s predecessor, unlike the last slow and sad episode this one was rather interesting and kept things going. The first act was made interesting by finally revealing the secret. Arham at last knows that Abrar was murdered and his mother knowingly kept this information from him. Naturally the first thing he did was to go visit Momina while he was being stalked by his current fiancé Fizza.
It’s been mentioned a couple of times that Fizza is a practical person with a practical approach towards life but her character so far is completely driven by impulse and not logic or practicality. Unlike the conventional antagonists it is admirable that Fizza isn’t naive enough to keep believing that Arham got engaged to her out of his free will or desire she acknowledges the fact that it was his reaction to being rejected by Momina. Another admirable thing is that she acknowledges her worth (at least in front of people who aren’t Arham) that she is good enough to score any man she likes Arham isn’t the end of the world for her. But she contradicts that practicality when she goes paranoid and instead of talking to Arham she spies on him, calls his ex fiancé, keeps things like his ex fiancé’s father is dead, all that screams “insecure” not “practical”.
Arham is naturally appalled after finding out that his mother can be callous enough to keep such a thing from him and his father but at least he isn’t alone in his misery. Afaan can relate to the helplessness that Arham feels right now and that is why Arham seeks comfort in his father. Arham feels helpless because of his inability to be of any help to Momina the love of his life when she needs so much support and Afaan feels the same helplessness if not worse because he wasn’t there with his friend in his last days what makes things even worse is the last words they exchanged were nothing but bitter and Afaan has to live with that. I have always appreciated the friendship that the writers established between Afaan and Abrar and even the father-son confidante relationship between Afaan and Arham is something beautiful to witness and rare in both the real life and reel life.

Haara Dil Episode 17 Review --- Interesting
There still are things that make no sense (as always) even after finding out that Abrar is dead and Momina and Abeer are completely on their own Afaan does nothing to go help them. Even if Momina isn’t Arham’s fiance anymore she still is his best friend’s almost brother like friend’s daughter that Afaan has claimed as his own at many times. Helping them financially or emotionally aside he didn’t even consider using his resources to look for the culprits who murdered his so called best friend. Another disappointing thing was the conversation between Arham and Momina. Arham knows that Momina just lost her father to a cold blooded murder and after two words of kindness he starts complaining about how lonely he is and how he has lost his will to live because Momina isn’t with him anymore. Arham is supportive of Momina as long as she doesn’t need much of it because every time there is a real crisis and Momina looks for comfort all Arham has are complaints. He somehow becomes self centered and lacks all the empathy when Momina really needs it.
Now that the truth is out that Amtul and Fizza kept the news to themselves we see that Arham confronts Fizza and they finally have a heart to heart conversation where Arham explains that he finally understands why Momina made the choices that she made. Both Fizza and Arham can see that they are no match made in heaven their way of dealing with life and people are totally contradictory to each other. Arham is probably planning on leaving the country for a while and hopefully if he does he’ll return a wiser man and won’t waste his own or Fizza’s time further.
The most heart wrenching part of this show has become Qasid’s advances towards Momina. At this point he feels no shame in sexually harassing her and making her uncomfortable by smelling her hair and what we’ve been shown in the preview the future that awaits Momina is bleak very bleak. Other than Qasid we have Amtul who at this point isn’t shy to even KILL Momina to keep her son to herself.
Over all the episode like I’ve said before was better than previous one. Cages have been rattled, things of significant consequences have happened, let’s hope Afaan will play a more important role in Momina’s life in future episodes.

Haara Dil Episode 16 Review — Sad & Slow

So episode 16 went down today and it was a rather slow one, nothing of consequence happened in it. Faraz got a lot of screen time in this episode and he did better in this episode as compared to the previous one. This whole Faraz and Abeer story arch is still too much to swallow, Momina had hardly spent five minutes with him and she decided to suggest the idea of him marrying Abeer. It is as if Abrar and Shagufta never warned Abeer and Momina about strangers especially the strangers who propose marriage on the very first meeting. We also got to see Fehmi and Zeba bad mouth Abeer and Momina since such “ameer khandan ke larkay” are interested in both of them, I miss the old Fehmi and Zeba who were less toxic and more neutral.

In other news Qasid sees Abeer hanging out with Faraz and like any other man with fragile masculinity he runs to his mother figure Fehmi Khala and whines about how he can not marry a woman who has pre-marital affairs with guys. Upon further discussion it is revealed that Abrar was pretty smart and he left this house to his wife Shagufta and in case of her death to his daughters. Qasid then comes up with the idea that since Momina is so “shareef” and owns the house too he should marry her but while Fehmi and Qasid were busy conspiring Momina was eavesdropping and she heard everything.

Haara Dil Episode 16 Review --- Sad & Slow

On Fizza and Arham’s front Fizza’s patience is running thin she probably thought that things between them will become better after the engagement but to her disappointment Arham is still the same old distant guy. It is understandable that Fizza is a privileged and very admirable woman and she probably has had everything in life that she has ever wanted and Arham is nothing more than another thing on her Bucket List that she has to own and she mistakes it for love but it is so unwise of both Amtul and Fizza to expect Arham to just forget the love of his life over the time span of a few days and fall in love with Fizza.

First of all why would any woman want the guy she loves to so easily get over the woman he so dearly loved. If he gets over her so easily what guarantee is there that he won’t fall out of love with you even more easily. But that’s not the character’s fault this one can be blamed on writers who still treat love like teenage infatuations or madness nothing in between.

Another thing that was unfair on Momina’s part but then again can be blamed on writers is her passive aggressiveness towards Arham and Afaan. Momina knows that she told Amtul about Abrar’s death and it is obvious that Amtul didn’t tell anyone so instead of being bitter about it she needs to inform them moreover she played victim in front of Abeer complaining about how Arham got engaged. Arham was ready to accept Momina with Sami but she refused and yet here she is complaining. It is not totally unbelievable people do that but the way Momina has been portrayed so far this is not like her.

Now that Momina is aware of Fehmi’s intentions she has become careful, as of Faraz he still comes off as a shady character, there’s still too much to be unfolded in this story so stay tuned.

Haara Dil Episode 15 Review — The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

So episode fifteen as expected was brimming with emotions so much that it brought more than just one tear to my eyes. The good part of this episode was Abeer, oh Abeer that gorgeous gorgeous actress is so great. From the moment she learned that her father is dead till the end of this episode it was pure one woman show. Abeer sure stole the show today. Her sadness so relate-able so real that she forces you to feel her pain and cry with her. From her trembling hands holding her father’s picture to her shaking voice it was all screaming what an amazing actor this woman is.

The bad part of this episode was the introduction of Faraz. Firstly the actor portraying Faraz was mediocre secondly the whole story seemed so rushed and unreal and unrelate-able. Apparently this tour is the first time Faraz and Abeer are meeting but the writers thought this was enough to spring a romantic relationship between the two. People start with “I like you” followed by “I love you” which are rarely followed by “will you marry me?” but here the guy starts with “Hey we have just met and this is crazy but will you marry me?” and Abeer says something even crazier “This is weird we have just met but yeah sure”.

Haara Dil Episode 15 Review --- The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

I understand that the writters did not want to establish that Abeer was already in a relationship when she left for this trip and in no way they wanted to imply that Abeer left on this trip and defied her father for this guy because that would have played really bad for the character. I understand the writer’s need to stay true to the essence of Abeer’s character and yet introduce Faraz somehow because he will be playing key role from now on but I still believe his introduction could have been a bit better and believable.

In the ugly part of today’s episode we got to see step mom acting like a real step mom now because she doesn’t have to even play the good mom anymore. She not only bad mouths Abeer in front of everyone she also looks for legal documents in Abrar’s room suggestive of her true intentions to probably own the house legally as his widow.

Faraz as I mentioned before will be playing a key role since he is rich and powerful he can surely use that influence to find Abrar’s murderers but all that will depend on his intentions too. So far it has’t been revealed whether Faraz here is really a hero or the anti hero.

The Afaans didn’t get any screen time in this episode. They probably still do not know that Abrar is dead. Whether realizing that he is dead will make Arham reconsider his decision of marrying Fizza or not is something we wouldn’t be finding out any time soon.
