Humayun Saeed himself took to Instagram to announce that London Nahi Jaunga had begun filming today produced by Six Sigma Plus and ARY Films.

This isn’t the first time Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, Nadeem Baig, Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat have come together for a film. The team last worked on Punjab Nahi Jaungi in 2017 that became one of the highest grossing films in Pakistan. Although London Nahi Jaunga will be along the lines of PNJ, the film is not a sequel to the later, as confirmed by Nadeem Baig himself.

Ishqiya’s first episode was pretty decent and even though it seems like the story doesn’t have anything new to offer but this was definitely the kind of episode which kept my interest alive. All the central characters were introduced with utmost clarity in this first episode – which was great especially considering the fact that I have watched enough dramas lately in which the families of the central characters are most often introduced later on. While Feroze Khan and Ramsha Khan are playing the kind of characters they have played in other dramas too before, Hania Aamir’s character it seems might be different from the one she played in Anaa and Titli. Also, I honestly feel that Hania Aamir is an amazing actress who brings out the nuances in her characters exceptionally well. All the actors involved performed well, the background music at times was annoying but overall this first episode was fast-paced and engaging.

The Title and First Impression
When I searched Ishqiya on Google to find out about the cast, that is when I realized that there was a Bollywood film with a similar title too. I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not but it would be great if our producers can be a little more creative while finalizing the title for their dramas! After all there are so many different options! I am going to admit that I watched this first episode with the least bit of expectations especially after watching the highly disappointing and OTT first episode of Jhooti. The fact that I managed to sit through this episode without questioning the cast and the presentation in general was reason enough to take it up for reviewing until something better comes along.
The opening scene wasn’t impressive, my first thought was whether a university would allow their student to wear shorts on campus. Apart from that the background score made the whole scenario more filmi than fun. As the story progressed and the characters were introduced, there was more clarity and even though Ishqiya seems like another story which will revolve around relationships but this first episode was definitely more interesting than the opening episode of Jhooti which was all over the place. There are some clichéd but definite conflicts in the plot right from the beginning and if handled well it would be interesting to watch how all the characters handle these conflicting situations.
The Characters and The Story
Ishqiya’s story revolves around three different families and four main leads. Thankfully the conflict in this story isn’t one which involves class difference. Hamna (Ramsha Khan) and Hamza (Feroze Khan) are madly in love. Hamza is in a position to show this ‘madness’ since he has no problem with openly confessing his love for Hamna. While on the one side Hamza is shown as an angry young man with a romantic side, on the other hand he is introduced as a genius – someone who does wonders in his studies even though he does not fit into that studious student stereotype. Although that sum he solved on the board didn’t seem too difficult but it did imply that he was a good student. Hamza’s father (Khalid Anam) is really cool and the entire atmosphere in his house is completely different from that of Hamna’s. The contrast between the two households was quite apparent from all the scenes shown in this first episode.
Hamna has a sister Romaisa (Hania Aamir) who has a personality very different from that of Hamna’s. While Hamna is in love and afraid to disclose that secret even to her sister, Romaisa is more than happy living her life which is quite carefree to say the least. Romaisa is shown as a happy-go-lucky young girl who trusts her father completely with her future. Hamna on the other hand is set to be engaged to Azeem (Gohar Rasheed) by the end of this episode. Hamna and Romaisa’s father (Shabbir Jan) is strictly against love marriage therefore Hamna does not have the courage to tell him about Hamza. At the same time, she does not talk to Hamza about the proposal because she is scared of how he might react to it. Everything happens too quickly and Hamna’s worst fears come true.
The conversations and situations through which all the characters were introduced in this episode were for the most part convincing. It was easy to connect to the situations. The scenes covering the family life of the main leads were more entertaining than the scenes which were shot in the university. Having said that, the university scenes were important because they showed the intensity of Hamza’s feelings for Hamna. This part of Hamza’s personality will probably play an important role in creating an even bigger problem in the upcoming episodes. Hamza gave Mir Hadi (Khaani) and Adeel (Gul-e-Rana) vibes but I really hope that his character does not get too dark.
Final Remarks
Sadly enough, like always ARY has summarized the entire plot on its website. Therefore, we know exactly what is going to happen in the next few weeks. And once again I regret visiting the website to get information about the cast and for the teasers! All those viewers who don’t want spoilers should not visit the website.
While watching this episode I kept on wondering why Hamna could not share her secret with Romaisa who seemed quite ‘cool’. It would have been good if the writer answered this question instead of showing that Hamna just didn’t have the guts to do so! Also, why couldn’t Romaisa see that her sister was not happy with the proposal and that she was worried.
Some of Romaisa’s dialogues were hilarious and I enjoyed her cool and cute attitude. The parents’ characters were interesting too since they were not one-dimensional.
The preview of the next episode showed Hamna’s father pleading her to safeguard his honor and her meeting with Azeem suggested it would just be added pressure.

It was after some hits back to back that Sanjay Dutt landed with the legal issues which are now over and he is back to the show, as per the latest reveals Vidhu Vinod Chopra is all set for the part 3 and will start working from February 10th on the project, here is what he has to say about it.:
“I really want to make Munna Bhai. It (Shikara) was a very tiring film because it was very close to my heart. I want to make some fun films now. I have been wanting to do Munna Bhai from a long time. Now finally, we have something that I would want to do. Munna Bhai 3 will be with Sanjay (Dutt) and yes, hopefully, all of them will be there… I am going to work on it from 10th (February). We have got the right idea but we have to work on that. I can’t say how much time it will take to make but I want to make it… wherever I go people ask me about it. Even at the airport, people keep asking me, ‘when will Munna Bhai come?’ (laughs). So, we have to make it before people get upset with us!”

While unlike them Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir do not go around talking about their relationship in interviews and there was definitely not a public proposal at their part like was the case with Iqra and Yasir yet these two definitely have a tough time keeping their hands off of each other whether they are shooting for a commercial or drama.
Pakistani dramas are bold and it can safely be said that Pakistani dramas are no longer the family dramas which they used to be. Having said that it is seldom ever that we see the kind of closeness between leading pair which we do when Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir are starring together in a drama. This is rather odd for a couple who is otherwise so private.
Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir’s Hugs in Dramas
It won’t be wrong to say that it all started with Yakeen Ka Safar. It is a mystery whether Sajal and Ahad were already in love when Asfandyar and Zubia hugged each other in the hospital after Zubia attempted to take her own life. This scene was loved by the fans because they had been wanting to see this couple declare their love for each other for the longest time. This declaration came in the form of some dialogues and of course the hug! The viewers had no idea that such hugs and a certain kind of unnecessary closeness would be part of every single project Sajal and Ahad would be part of from here on.
While most Sahad fans are more than happy with watching their favorite jodi comfortable on-screen, there are many others who felt that Ahad and Sajal were cashing in on their relationship with each other by putting the physical closeness between them on display for the satisfaction of their fans.
Aangan was another drama serial starring Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly in the leading roles. The kind of physical closeness between them in this particular drama was the most unnecessary and awkward. Chammi and Jamil’s flirtation and their entire relationship always came across as more physical than anything else. This was another drama in which the makers as well as the stars involved banked on this certain aspect because they knew that there are a vast majority of fans who like such closeness between them and think it is sweet.
This is obviously not the first time that a real-life jodi has attempted something like this. Many other real-life couples have starred together in projects because together they have a massive fan following but we have never seen other real-life couples like Muneeb and Aiman, Hania and Asim, Urwa and Farhan and so many others sharing such moments on screen especially when they are not even needed.
Most often when there is such unnecessary physical closeness between celebrities in dramas most people find it off-putting therefore the celebrities also avoid it. Even though they might be openly dating and even going on holidays in real life, in dramas they try to keep the physical closeness minimal. In the most recent drama Yeh Dil Mera starring Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir, the number of times they have hugged has basically shown that the directors and the producers know that these two are comfortable doing so and their fans love it too. Some of these hugs have come in the most unexpected of moments and they have been quite elaborate as well.
One thing is for sure that Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly might want to keep many things about their actual relationship secret but they are more than happy to share hugs on screen. This latest episode of Ehd-e-Wafa was yet again entertaining as well as emotional. It was well written, beautifully directed and most of the performances were truly impressive. All the actors are playing their roles exceptionally well and for now Osman Khalid Butt’s wooden acting suits the role he is playing. All the boys, with the exception of Shahzain, are on the right track and watching them go ahead with such confidence has been heart-warming.
Saad’s Track
Tonight’s episode opened with Saad and Dua’s conversation which was both romantic and meaningful. Ahad Raza Mir has been performing remarkably well throughout but now Alizeh Shah too is quite likable in this role. Dua’s character in the beginning didn’t have a lot to offer and it kept the viewers confused as well. The fact that both these characters have much more going for them than the relationship they have is definitely the best part. It is great watching a drama which shows that young people can be in love and focused on their studies and careers at the same time too. I however was waiting to see a conversation between Dua and Saad before he left for Waziristan. There were a few scenes which suggested that Saad might not survive the mission but I do feel that it is too early to show something like that. Honestly speaking, I would love to see Saad as a ghazi in the end. After all ghazis are also heroes.
This episode of Ehd-e-Wafa didn’t just have one but two really touching scenes covering Saad’s relationship with his father. The on-screen chemistry both these actors share is remarkable and their scenes always leave an impact in some way or the other. In the first scene Saad’s father showed him who was the boss even though Saad was quite confident. And in the second scene, he made sure his son knew that he was lucky to be given such a good opportunity at such an early stage in his career. Saad’s mother’s reaction and their scenes together were even more emotional. Ahad Raza Mir’s expressions in all these scenes were beyond impressive. Their dialogues were also written really well.
Shehryar’s Success
Shehryar and his father’s scene was directed and acted-out beautifully. It was the most sweet and emotional scene in this entire episode. Right from the beginning Shehryar’s track has been extremely emotional. He has not only been the most level-headed and likable character in the play but his circumstances have been such that the viewers have been rooting for him for a long time. Therefore watching him get this far and then watching him present his success as a surprise to his parents was an absolute treat to watch. The way his father saluted him was the best part of this scene. Later on, when Shahzain told Shehryar that without him, he couldn’t have made it to where he was today, it was really good to see Shehryar not falling for this lie. On the other hand, Shahzain succeeded in fooling Shariq completely. Shahzain still feels the need to dominate his friends. He knows he cannot do that, the way he used to because all of them have made it quite clear to him that they won’t be taking dictation from him therefore now he is doing so by making them feel like he has been doing them favors which were crucial to their careers. It was really nice watching Shehryar take a stand for Saad, he is a wise young man!
Shariq’s scenes clearly showed that he had managed to make a big name for himself. Even though he is an intelligent man who has carved his own path yet he let someone like Shahzain fool him, that particular aspect did not work for me. Other than that watching the channel owner giving him all the liberty and so much respect was something easy to connect to since there are a lot of such media persons who have made a big name for themselves and even if they switch channels, they retain their viewership.
Final Remarks
If you stopped watching Ehd-e-Wafa because it did not come up to your expectations then it is time to catch up because Ehd-e-Wafa surely is delivering what it promised. The script is turning out to be a meaningful one and this drama definitely offers the kind of entertainment we don’t get to see on our screens very often. Apart from Ahad Raza Mir, Ahmed Ali Akbar has given a phenomenal performance right from the get-go. I would love to see more of him on screen in other dramas as well. There will be yet another reunion in the next episode, impatiently waiting to watch that scene.

She smiled and replied after thinking a lot, “It’s very difficult to say. No one is a virgin in the Pakistan industry.”

Sarwat said, “Apparently I wake up every morning and get pretty after using injections.”

Ohkay so, this episode gave closure to one of the tracks of the story, at least for now. It was one such episode which does not allow viewers to look away even for a second because everything that is happening is so intense, so gripping that you just can not afford to miss even a second of it. The credit definitely goes to the director, but more than that to the powerful actors who gave such phenomenal performances throughout the episode. Every single scene was laden with so many emotions, while listening to them you could hear the pain, the trauma that they had endured. This was one intense episode of Alif & the team behind this drama should be very proud of themselves for doing justice to this script written by Umera Ahmed.
The Closure
Sultan did everything he could to save Husn e Jahan. He only wanted to help her. It was very clear that Sultan’s intention was not to help her son or her husband, but only her, especially after he met her. Sultan found it very hard to accept that Husn e Jahan was not the same person anymore, she was now a wife who was suffering at the hands of her husband & she was a mother, a selfless one at that who wanted to forsake everything for her son’s comfort. Husn e Jahan’s helplessness was convincingly portrayed by Kubra Khan. I couldn’t stop feeling the pain Husn e Jahan was suffering from because of Kubra’s outstanding performance.
Taha & Husn e Jahan finally came to a closure. Taha said what he felt he needed to say & Husn e Jahan also said everything to let him go. She loved him selflessly, that is why she decided that the only option left for her to help her husband was to let him go. She knew that none of her justifications will be accepted by her husband. She also knew that he will always doubt her reasons. What Husn e Jahan did was the final blow to Taha’s already shattered ego & because she kept Taha’s pain ahead of hers, she decided to set him free. Taha had time & again reminded her that he was suffering because of her, this marriage had cost him everything, his choice of Husn e Jahan over Abdul Ala had destroyed him, so there was nothing else left for Husn e Jahan to cling onto. No hope, absolutely nothing. It wasn’t because Husn e Jahan was tired of this life, it was because she was done seeing her husband in so much of pain.
Once again, all this while, I could not help but think why was Taha doing all of this? Why was he time & again holding his wife responsible for his incapabilities? Why was he victimizing himself & not owning his own shortcomings? Another beautiful aspect that surfaced was that Husn e Jahan was very much sorted about what she wanted from Taha & what she wanted from this relationship. She readily left everything behind to live the life Taha was living but Taha had doubts, he had fears, he also had regrets & unfortunately, all of that made him bitter – so much so that he ended up not seeing Husn e Jahan for who she was.
The flashbacks that showed the initial stages of Husn e Jahan & Taha’s relationship were so heart-breaking yet beautiful. How realistically it was portrayed that every other relationship starts on a beautiful note but its the trials which the couple has to endure which tests their loyalty towards one another. Husn e Jahan was loyal to him, Taha was too but it looked like his only resort was to blame Husn e Jahan for everything wrong in his life, which is why he failed to see her transition, how she was lifeless & how she had no needs, no desires left in her, all because of him!
Qalb e Momin enjoying his meal while his mother cried was so heart-breaking. The poor child did not know the price his mother had to pay to make it happen for him, but then this is what motherhood is all about – its about being selfless, it’s all about bringing one smile to a child’s face. Husn e Jahan did everything she could but unfortunately, she was misunderstood. Her mother misunderstood her, her husband misunderstood her, Abdul Alla did the same & later her only son Qalb e Momin ended up doing that too. How unfortunate. Husn e Jahan lived her life for others & sadly when she made one decision for herself, it took everything away from her.
Another powerful scene of this episode was of Sultan & Surraya. Surraya loved him selflessly & this is what forced Sultan to accept her in his life. He did not want to, he held onto the last glimmer of hope that maybe one day Husn e Jahan will come back to him but after he saw her, his hope died. Sultan let Husn e Jahan influence the biggest decision of his life. It was also Surraya’s submissiveness which made him propose to her. I felt for Surraya a lot, she felt happy but may be she did not know that the man she was in love with, will never be able to love her the way she deserves to be loved. Sultan sold his house for Husn e Jahan & kept that a secret from her. His love for Husn e Jahan was special too but then it was his misery that it was an unrequited love.
The struggle that Husn e Jahan was going through after coming back to her mother’s place was so evident in each & every scene. It was beautifully captured how Husn e Jahan was only doing all of that to please her mother & also because she knew this is what she had to do in order to survive. The disgust on her face, the discomfort & the resentment of the entire environment was so obvious even through those subtle expressions. Once again, Husn e Jahan had no control of her life & she had to live for others.
The Lie
Sultan ended up lying to Momina once again. I am not sure why he didn’t tell her about Husn e Jahan’s second marriage & made it look like she committed suicide. Obviously, they will reveal it all later but at this moment, I am unable to figure out his reasons. Saleem Mairaj’s minute expression which showed that he lied to Momina was phenomenal. Each & every single actor has breathed life into this drama which is beyond impressive. Momina relates to Husn e Jahan, she has lived her life through her father’s words. Momina has seen how much respect her father has had for Husn e Jahan, therefore she has a special place in her heart for Husn e Jahan, that is why getting to know about her tragic end shattered her. Momin got to know that now Momina Sultan’s name & her popularity had fizzled out his name, just a news bulletin was enough for him to understand this reality but he seemed unbothered. For him, the only thing that matters is his movie, the story of his mother & that’s about it.
Magnificent
This episode of Alif was filled with phenomenal performances. This episode for sure belonged to Kubra Khan as well as Ahsan Khan. Their performances, the flow in the dialogues, the display of emotions & the pain – it was all a work of art. These kinds of performances are experienced once in a while on our TV screens, therefore it was too much to grasp. However, the way everything was executed made it so seamless & easy. Each & every team member responsible for making Alif what it is should take a bow. Kubra Khan has definitely given the best performance of her career so far. It won’t be wrong to say that Alif has turned out to be one such project for her where she gets to actually prove her caliber as well as show it to the world what she is capable of as an actor. Her performance in this episode was unparalleled. Saleem Mairaj is another star of this drama. His expressions, his performance is more like an honor for the viewers to watch. All of these actors have surely breathed life into these characters. Ahsan Khan was so powerful in this episode, each expression of his was calculated, so much of grip on a character shows the intensity & the loyalty an actor has or feels towards a character.
The preview of the next episode was promising. It seems the story will now focus on the present & the equation of Momin & Momina, which I am keenly looking forward to. Oh yes, just a random thought – Sultan placing a brush in his mouth while doing Husn e Jahan’s makeup was so unhygienic. The makeup artist & Husn e Jahan enthusiast in him didn’t know that on a sanitary side of makeup world, it’s a big no no, haha. Please share your thoughts about this magnificent episode of Alif.

Imran Ashraf will be seen playing the leading role in the film Dam Mastam alongside Amar Khan. The film has also been written by Amar Khan. The famous director Muhammad Ehteshamuddin will be directing Dam Mastam. Farhan Saeed will be making his film debut with Tich Button. The film will be produced by Farhan Saeed’s wife and actress Urwa Hocane, so this will be her production debut too. ARY will be co-producing the film. Tich Button will also mark the directorial debut of Qasim Ali Mureed who directed the popular drama Aangan for ARY Digital. Junaid Khan is a singer turned actor who entered the acting industry in 2011. It has been a tough ride for Junaid Khan since when he started acting he faced a lot of criticism. However, he did not give up and took all the criticism to improve his acting skills. As a result of that, today Junaid Khan is known as an actor who always gives a wonderful performance. Last year, Junaid Khan was part of some of the most popular drama serials therefore it does not come as a surprise that he is making his film debut too now.
Junaid Khan has not revealed a lot of details about his film debut. Except that the film is titled Kahay Dil Jidhar and Mansha Pasha will be playing the lead alongside him. Kahay Dil Jidhar has been directed by Jalal Rumi. It has been produced by Kamran Bari. Junaid Khan is really excited about this project and he intends to give it his best.
