Ishq Tamasha is a drama serial that recently ended and despite it having the most messed up storyline and unnecessary drag, it turned out to be a super successful serial with ratings and everything. Ohkay so, there was nothing new in this episode of Koi Chand Rakh but then after all these episodes I am left wondering if there’s going to be anything new in this story at all? This episode once again ended on a sarcasm directed by Nishaal towards Zain & once again I had to roll my eyes hard. Can we move on please? It is no fun watching this girl getting so much screen-time!
Developments (If Any):
Rabail had to face Umair again & because of him, she had to face this undue criticism which she does not deserve. It is funny that despite seeing how stubborn Umair is, Nafeesa still believes that everything they are going through is because of Rabail. Rabail is getting married only to get rid of Umair & go away out of their lives but still she is getting blamed. It is good that at least Asad is the voice of reason in this mad house where he clearly told Nafeesa & Nishaal that they should not blame Rabail as it is Umair who has lost his sense of right & wrong. Nishaal has become Zain ke pyaar mai andhi because of which she has harbored so much hatred in her heart against Rabail, the girl she has spent her entire life with. This girl has some serious loyalty issues I tell you!
The entire scene of Umair setting his room on fire would’ve been intense if in the background the guy was not making a video of this whole dramatic situation. I couldn’t stop noticing & laughing at his presence that is why I lost focus on what Rabail was saying to Umair or how much acting they were trying to extract there. I am sure sooner or later this video will make it Zain only to ruin Rabail’s life further.
Nishal once again hovered around Zain like a hyena telling him how wrong he was & what he was going to miss by not getting married to her. I am sure even if Zain would want to get settled with Rabail, Nishaal won’t let that happen because she will continue to haunt him like a churail! Abrar’s presence in that scene was not going to serve any purpose I am sure because later he will continue to say how proud he is of Zain that he put his father’s feelings ahead of his own. *face palm*

I am done with this rona dhona & want to see something different, something other than this continuous depressed look on everyone’s face. Parwaaz Hai Junoon had been a very much awaited and anticipated movie this year along with “Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 2” and “Load wedding”. The much anticipated movie Parwaaz Hai Junoon, which tributes the Pakistan Air Force, had an amazing cast including Hamza Ali Abbasi, Hania Amir, Ahad Raza Mir, Kubra Khan and Shaz Khan in the prominent roles. The hype was due to Hamza Ali Abbasi and none other than Yakeen Ka Safar’s Dr.Asfi AKA Ahad Raza Mir who did his Film debut with this one.
Parwaz was released on Eid-Ul-Azha 2018, and before the release a huge hype was created with promotions starring Hamza, Ahad and Hania. The cast was super enthusiastic so they attended morning shows, visited malls, did promotional photo shoots, did interviews with you tube bloggers and what not.

The passing of time is just a fact of life. People age as the years go by, there’s no escaping this reality—well, unless you’re Zeba Bakhtiar. Zeba Bakhtiar has still managed to maintain the teenage glow that she had in her early acting days despite having a young son who looks more like her younger brother. Pakistani channels and production houses nowadays focus more on getting TRPs than they do on content. Entertainment after all is a business just like any other but some of the production houses take this business a little too seriously. These are the production houses which are primarily in the business to make money therefore they keep on making dramas which would guarantee massive viewership. They forget they also have a responsibility and focus entirely on making money. There are also those people in the industry who incorporate these tried and tested formulas to make dramas which are more meaningful and offer something bigger. If a certain story or some aspect of the plot attracts the attention of majority of the viewers, it is used as a formula in every other drama.
Following are some of the ingredients which almost always attract the audience, sometimes these ingredients are part of dramas which are overall impressive but many times these ingredients completely take over and are in bad taste!
Ratings Are Directly Proportional To How Majboor The Heroine Is
The victim stance indeed is really powerful especially when it comes to Pakistani dramas. This is a tried and tested formula which always works. Making the viewers feel for the characters is an important part of a writer’s job but there are so many of our writers who go overboard. These writers forget to give their characters a definite personality and rely solely on showing these women as victims. The actresses playing these roles and the production houses heading such projects are extremely certain that the ratings are directly proportional to the amount of tears these heroines shed! Most often, the leading lady is shown suffering right from the beginning and the problems she faces increase over time. The most unconvincing and annoying aspect is when these majbooris are forced. Even when there is a way out, these leading ladies stick to the source of their problems (the man in their life) like glue. Recent examples of such leading ladies are Mannu from Mann Mayal, Azra from Mere Bewafa and Mirha from Ishq Tamasha.
A Dominating “Good Looking” Male Lead
Lately, we have seen so many such leading men in our “popular” dramas whose flaws were glorified and sadly enough, they had a huge fan following too! Mir Haadi from Khaani, Shahmir from Mere Bewafa and Mehrab from Ishq Tamasha are few such examples. Mehrab’s character was actually turned into one of these sadistic sick-minded unreasonable characters primarily because somehow such men help garner more sympathies for the majboor leading ladies. Mir Hadi was the prime example of a “good looking” male lead with tons of flaws, who was the main attraction in drama serial Khaani. The producers wanted to kill his character but could not do so because he had a massive fan following. Shahvez from Sangat is another such example. These heroes were murders and rapist yet they were shown as victims and got a hero’s ending too.
Two Women Fighting Over A Man
I am not sure what kind of an adrenaline rush most viewers get out of watching women fight over men but the affect it has on ratings gives the producers even more incentive to make such dramas. The majboor aurat’s majbooris are highlighted even more by making her good-for-nothing man fall in love with her best friend, sister or cousin! The flirtation and the husband’s disloyalty and the sufferings of the first wife are given plenty of screen time. The most ironic bit is that this “man” most often is a shoddy character and such a weakling that you only wonder how two women would be stupid enough to fight over him.
Men Never Suffer The Way Women Do
Even though a grown up man who is sensible enough to run a business and a house starts an affair and gets married to his wife’s best friend out of his own free will but it is never the man’s fault. The dramas which get the TRPs always show that it is always the fault of the other woman! Somehow most of our producers and writers are convinced that if they make a man suffer as miserably as they make the women suffer then they will lose their viewership. This is the reason why women who cheat always get the worst endings but men who do so are always forgiven. In Mere Bewafa the way Shahmir was forgiven was absurd, In Ishq Tamasha Mehrab literally got away with murder and also got a happy ending and in drama serial Ghar Titli Ka Par the past few episodes have been dedicated solely to convincing the viewers that poor Azar was trapped by wicked Anji.
Negativity To The Rescue
When the viewers start feeling for the heroine, the producers decide to turn the more nuanced character into an all out negative character. The recent example is that of Rushna’s character. In order to make Mirha look like an even bigger bechari than she already was Rushna was turned into an unreasonable negative character who was continuously plotting and planning against Mirha. In Ghar Titli Ka Par Anji’s negativity is the main attraction in the show which is why she gets more screen time than Shafaq does. Although, the producers do all this to get more support for their leading ladies and it obviously works for a lot of people but while doing so they completely ruin the characters and as a result the plot goes haywire.
Rape Victims, Rapists, Survivors
This is a very serious issue which has been highlighted in an intelligent and responsible manner by many of our drama makers but this issue has unfortunately also been used to get attention and ratings. Chup Raho was one such example in which this issue was used to get attention and not to educate. Even in Aisi Hei Tanhai, the track covering this particular tragedy was stretched to the limit and did not serve a bigger purpose. Sangat was another such drama in which the issue of rape was sensationalized and the rapist was glorified. Many dramas also took inspiration from drama serial Udaari but all of them did not do justice to the topic. This topic has been getting the producers the ratings they want therefore this is one of the main reasons why they keep on making dramas on it.
First 10 Episodes Should Be Fast-Paced
Yes! This is the key to success. Most producers who want ratings alone make sure that the first 10 episodes are fast-paced and happening. When they have their loyal viewers’ attention, they slow the pace down, the story almost completely loses direction and the sole purpose of the show is to stretch the story as much as possible. Since the viewers get hooked to these dramas in the first few weeks, they keep on tuning into them out of curiosity and that is how even those viewers who do not like such storylines end up contributing to the viewership.
All the examples given in this article are from dramas which got the highest number of ratings in the past few years. There are however those producers and writers as well who get the ratings and attention of the viewers by making dramas with a strong storyline without using any formulas.

Sania Mirza, an Indian professional tennis player and the wife of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, is famous for staunch views on gender equality and women empowerment. Sania is expecting and is going to experience motherhood soon as she is due next month.
In her recent interview with Hindustan Times, she emphasized that people should celebrate the birth of a girl as they do for a boy.
“It is very difficult to get rid of something that has been a part of [people’s mindset] from probably the very beginning [of life]. Equality, for me, is that as a woman, you have to believe that you are no less than anyone”
She continued, “I have always been for equality. This concern is not confined to one country, state or race. The fact that even today, players like Serena Williams have to justify equal pay, shows that we don’t live in an equal world. I would love to see people celebrate in the same way when a girl is born, much like when a boy is born. That’s how we become an equal world.”
Sania has always raised her voice for equal rights for women. She added, “Being equal does not mean doing the same things like a man. This is not a competition and such things do not determine if men are better than women or otherwise. It’s about having equal opportunities and respect in life.”
She thinks that it is all about how women perceive themselves If they start to think of their rights as equal as men, that will only help in betterment. “If women believe that they are equal, that will only make for a better world.”
Meri Guriya Episode 23 & 24 Story Review – This second last episode of Meri Guriya covered how difficult it was for Shehnaz and Safina to get justice. Yawar stood by their side every step of the way and it has been pleasant watching this positive male character in a drama in which most men are just plain evil! The situations that were shown tonight had tons of potential but not all of them had the impact which they could have had. The performances like every other week were mind-blowing but some of the dialogues were not as powerful as they should have been. Also, even after Dabeer confessed to his crime somehow his confession was not taken into account in the court. The leading characters especially that of Safina and Shehnaz are the best thing about this play right now and the performances never falter.
Vested Interests Stand In The Way Of Justice
These episodes of Meri Guriya showed how people’s vested interests, arrogance and a mother’s blind love for her son stood in the way of justice. For Sheikh Sahab saving Dabeer was always a matter of his pride and “reputation” but now he also has added interest because Dabeer’s parents are willing to marry off their daughter with him. Similarly, the SHO who lost his job because of this case now is more determined than ever to teach Safina a lesson since she slapped him. Dabeer’s mother thinks her son is her “savior” and Abida’s daadi will side with anyone who is against Shehnaz! She cannot bear to see two women taking the lead therefore she considers it her duty to put them down every chance she gets. All these people aided Dabeer in every way possible tonight and that is how once again even with all the proof and the confession Shehnaz could not get a verdict.
Strengths and Weaknesses of The Characters
Some of the characters in this play have some major strengths which are truly inspiring but then there are other characters which have not been etched-out properly and a great deal is left to the viewer’s imagination. When Dabeer’s father went along with everything tonight so willingly, it was not easy to relate to. Also, Shahmir’s “support” for his wife keeps you guessing. His character is a little too weak. The writer perhaps did this to accentuate Shehnaz’s strength but it would have been so much better if he was given a proper role in this entire situation. He turned Dabeer’s father back and also told his mother off but that was not enough. It would have made more sense if he accompanied Shehnaz to the court.
Performances and Direction
Even though, there were quite a few scenes tonight which could easily have been chopped down but overall, these episode were directed brilliantly. The director kept everything realistic and except for the confession scene, none of the scenes were over-dramatic. Sania Saeed’s performance is always the highlight of every episode. She brings out the best in her character. Sonya Hussyn once again did complete justice to her character tonight. Mohsin Abbas Haider is amazing! His expressions tonight when Sheikh Sahab comes to get the divorce papers signed were priceless! Faris Shafi is extremely likable in this role. His on-screen chemistry with all his co-stars and his natural acting make his scenes more impactful. All the supporting actors have acted brilliantly too. There are very few dramas in which every actor gives such a superb performance.
Overall Impression
These two episodes did not have the best script, we have seen much better episodes of Meri Guriya. The direction and the performances however were on point as usual. I was expecting Dabeer to get more screen time tonight since the viewers want to know his background and history – the reasons why he turned into a monster. I am looking forward to a last episode which will in some way cover that and also give this character the ending it deserves. So many characters need a reality check, I hope the ending is as good as the drama was overall.
The young actress we all saw growing before our eyes, Sara Razi Khan is embarking on a new journey of her life. Aangan is one of the most anticipated dramas of Pakistan. People are waiting for it excitedly. It has an ensemble cast and each name makes you excited for it more than the previous one. Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir, the hit pair from Yakeen Ka Safar will be seen again together on screen with Aangan. Mawra Hocane will be coming back on television after Sammi and Ahsan Khan is teaming up again with his Udaari director for Aangan. A lot of reasons to get excited indeed. It also has Hira Mani and Sonya Hussyn in the cast.
Aangan is a period drama based in old times and the makers have taken a lot of care with the looks of all the cast members. We see old school shararas and hairstyles which is making the teaser photos all the more exciting. There is a new addition in the cast now and it is Shahroz Sabzwari.
