Sang e Marmar Episode 23 Review – Faultless!

Ohkay so, this episode of Sang e Marmar, like all the previous episodes was beautiful & special. I love how everything is falling in its right place. Even though the way things are being sorted goes to show that the drama is nearing its end but I know that it is one such drama that is going to leave a void in the viewers’ lives. Even though the pace of the drama has been on the slower side because a lot of things are being explained & unraveled, but it somehow seems justified & necessary that the director decided to take things slow to make everything seem more impactful. Isn’t it amazing that the story of Sang e Marmar has so much to offer, that the number of episodes at this stage don’t even matter & in fact seem justified because everything that is being shown is important & has a purpose.

Durkhane finally decided to reveal the truth to her brother because the guilt was becoming overbearing for her. To be honest, even though I did have a feeling that Durkhane won’t die but to see Shareefullah’s wise & forgiving approach was such a fresh of breath air. It was actually quite nice to see a brother, that too belonging to such a background where pride is put on a pedestal higher than anything else, having such an approach where he not only had the heart to forgive his sister but also gave her a chance to explain everything that she had to say. Yes, the call for prayer played the major part because for a second, the pride did get the better of Shareefullah but he chose to be a bigger person. To hear Shareefullah say that Durkhane committed a mistake & not a sin was actually quite nice. Also, I think it was the soft corner that Shareefullah had for Shireen helped him in forgiving his sister too because he was actually quite happy to know that everything that he was told about Shireen was nothing but a lie.

Another breath of fresh air was seeing Shireen thinking about herself & all the possibilities of her getting married to Aurang. To be honest, I actually did expect Shireen to turn into a sacrificial lamb where she would immediately say no to what Gulistan suggested, thinking that she gave her word to Palwasha but everything that Shireen said or felt seemed far more realistic & relatable. Shireen has loved Aurang all her life but it’s just that when her life didn’t turn out to be how she expected, she shut the doors of hope & dreams on her but now when Da Jee asked her opinion on getting married to Aurang, she could see a ray of hope coming through. Yes, Shireen did a lot of thinking & while at it, she remembered how she handed over her prized possession, her peacock feather to Palwasha signifying the closure she reached when it came to Aurang but then, like she said, she was past this stage where she could even think that something of this sort could possibly happen & now when it has, she is forced to do some thinking. It was good that Durkhane came at the right time & helped Shireen in putting things into perspective. Durkhane reminded Shireen that she never made any promise to Palwasha & now if her life was presenting her with an opportunity, she shouldn’t think twice. The conversation & the entire meeting of Shireen & Durkhane was quite sweet, I somehow felt happy for Durkhane too because where she put the weight off her chest, she also got another news about the possibility of Aurang Shireen marriage, which made her further relieved that things were shaping up for the better.

I enjoyed the conversation that happened between Shareefullah, Gulistan & Torah. It is nice to see a completely different version of Gulistan who is far more wise, forgiving & laid back. The way Gulistan sent Salam to Pari depicted how he actually put everything behind & started afresh. The dialogues have always been the strongest point of this drama & it was interesting how in just a few words, Shareefullah explained how the situation for expats was in UAE. I think one mistake that Shareefullah did was where he chose to tell Torah about his intention of getting married to Shireen, because this is something that Torah can use in the future when he will see that the chances of Palwasha getting married to Aurang are less. I think Shareefullah should have waited to hear Shireen’s answer before saying anything to a family member of Shireen’s in laws. I really really like that even though Shireen has suffered a huge loss in her life, she hasn’t lost her personality & she is still the same; strong & opinionated girl who always believes in truth & honesty because usually in our dramas, it just takes a slip on the bathroom floor for our heroines to turn into damsels in distress but it is actually quite amazing to see a girl like Shireen, who could easily turn herself into a damsel in distress after suffering so much, still holding her ground & still having a personality. I loved how politely Shireen said no to Shareefullah’s proposal & told Durkhane that for her, Shareefullah will always remain a brother, like it is nice to see that Shireen, without having much power & authority still has a voice & can still make her decisions on her own.

I know Pari is a negative character but I liked seeing her as an authoritative businesswoman where she was ordering her employee, like she has an attitude & she is not afraid to show it. The way Shareefullah lied to Pari that he took Durkhane to Shireen’s place went to show that even he has now understood that malice Pari has in her heart for Shireen & he also knew that this news won’t sit well with her because she has practically kicked Shireen out of her life so she doesn’t want anyone around her to have anything to do with Shireen. Also, if Shareefullah had told Pari that he took Durkhane to see Shireen, it would’ve also meant that he believed Shireen was innocent & Pari would’ve asked for an explanation or may be she would’ve said something against Durkhane too because even Shareefullah knows that Pari is aware of the fact that it wasn’t Shireen who used to meet Gohar, therefore he chose to keep everything to himself & spared himself an unnecessary argument or confrontation.

It was good to see Torah back in the picture, the expressions where he slipped on the Halwa were priceless, lol. The conversation that took place between him & Shareefullah where he spoke about Bengalis took him on a different tangent which suggested that Torah doesn’t see Pakistan as his home but then he is not at fault because he has always been a victim of racism because of his mother’s ethnicity. Torah has always been looked down upon because of his complexion, so no wonder he never grew affectionate towards the land he has spent his entire life in. Once again, we saw what Torah as a brother could do & that makes me nervous for Shireen because Torah won’t sit still if he’ll see that Aurang is getting married to Shireen in stead of Palwasha. Torah is someone who might tolerate anything that comes his way but he never ever allows anyone to direct their hatred or malice towards his little sister, so definitely he will do something huge if he will see that Aurang or even Gulistan’s family left Palwasha in the lurch. It was good that Shameem & Gulistan told Aurang to complete his degree & return after Shireen is done with her Iddat, even though the writer hasn’t made a huge issue out of these things but just the way these concepts have been taken care of & conveyed in a right manner makes a lot of difference & goes to show the insight that the writer has when it comes to Islamic concepts, isn’t is nice to see a focus on Riba & Iddat for a change, at least so much better than the overdone & over glamorized Talaqs & Halalas, cheeeee!!!

Anyways, I had a great time watching this episode of Sang e Marmar too. I so want to see a shift in Sherbano’s attitude & a change in her life as well. She has spent her entire marital life in hating her husband & trying to plot against people, trying to show that she has a lot of power which she doesn’t, so I really want to see if she will change & make something good out of her life or not. If Torah’s reality will remain hidden then may be they both have a chance but if he gets exposed then Sherbano will definitely seem justified in her stance. The preview of the next episode seems interesting too, looks like we’re in for another emotional scene between Gulistan & Shameem, also Sherbano will be doing what she is good at, which is spreading hatred against Palwasha. Anyways, it is good that at the moment, Sherbano is only concerned with Palwasha & has forgotten about Shireen though. The direction of this episode like always was perfect, I enjoyed every conversation, every single dialogue, it is actually quite amazing how all these actors have added life in these dialogues by delivering them so effortlessly, it’s like they have owned everything that was written for them, that is why Sang e Marmar has become such a drama which leaves an impact every single time. Kubra Khan for sure was a star of this episode for me, she makes Shireen look beautiful, realistic, relatable & adorable. Kubra Khan really makes us feel Shireen’s pain & also makes us feel that Shireen deserves all the happiness in the world, which is beautiful. All the other actors did a brilliant job too. Please share your thoughts about this beautiful episode of Sang e Marmar.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

6 Reasons Why You Should Look Forward To Balu Mahi

0

Pakistani cinema and films have seen a long struggle to vouch audiences to the cinemas. The long-lasting revival of Pakistani cinema is the much needed excellence and the rising number of films each year is bringing in more support and masses. With a number of Bollywood films releasing recently, Pakistani films might struggle to get the audience to the cinemas but nevertheless what it is, we must give our films a chance to succeed and not let them get effected from other major industries. Only 3-4 major Pakistani films are releasing this month and one of them is Balu Mahi which is hitting the cinemas on February 10th. So we here, bring you six reasons on why you should look forward to Balu Mahi.

1) Osman Khalid Butt and Sadaf Kanwal’s debut film
Balu Mahi marks OKB and Sadaf’s first commercial film as actors. We know that OKB has disappointed his fans with his role in Sanam, but let’s give him the benefit of doubt yet again since we expect a power packed performance from him in his upcoming flick and not to forget he’s really handsome too. Sadaf Kanwal on the other hand is the rising star of Pakistan, from being a super model to bagging a role in a leading film is a fast and impressive journey.

2) Ainy Jaffri essaying a different role
Ainy Jaffri is mostly seen essaying the cliched damsel in distress roles in dramas but this time her character Mahi seems like a happy go lucky girl. A girl who is fearless and full of life and is a character we wouldn’t want to miss as she looks purely gorgeous.

3) A visual treat for the cinema-goers
The teasers and trailers gives a feel of fresh and enticing plot which is surely going to be a good addition to the infancy stage of Pakistani film industry. There isn’t much we’ve seen of Balu Mahi but we are sure that the viewers are in for a visual treat with this masala dosed film. And those exotic scenic locations with amazing direction has got us even more excited!

4) Sahir Ali Bagga’s music

The songs of Balu Mahi are surely not to be missed, with every song having a different feel to it. Where one makes us groove to it, the other touches your heart and you can’t help but fall in love with it. The title track of Balu Mahi is a cool party song, Bechaniyan celebrates love and friendship in those beautiful scenes. Rang de chunar is a soothing to the ears and Tu Kya Jane is the heartbreak song in beautiful locations.

5) The rom-com genre
Romance is most of the time a key to a successful film and the central theme of Balu Mahi is love with a twist. It’s a youthful coming of age film which surely has lots of Pakistani feel to it specially those jokes in the trailer. So as we all know its an epic adventure film, the journey of love and self discovery and Sadaf’s there for all the troublesome!

6) Support the cinema
If there is one most important reason than that is to support Pakistani cinema. Pakistani cinema is trying to achieve the milestone which other industries did after years of trial, so the audiences should support their own cinema to expect more meaty films in future.

Drama Sanam To End Next Week!

0

Many viewers had been waiting for this news, Sanam is officially ending this Monday, February 6th. Unfortunately Sanam couldn’t grab much appreciation due to the repetitive story and content and it’s finally coming to an end. It might not be a good news for everyone since there were many out there who enjoyed watching Maya and OKB together but whatever it is, the news of an unexpected end is quite surprising since the drama was dragged abruptly and is suddenly ending and we wonder how are the makers going to sort all the mess in the last episode!

Are you all ready to watch the last episode?

Shehrnaz Episode 14 Review – Dil Phenk Haseena

0

This drama makes me laugh now especially those scenes in which Shehrnaz thinks about the men she fell in love with, is still in love with (maybe! I am confused!) and will continue to be in love with even when she falls in love once again! Yes! she will fall in love again because our dil phenk haseena will continue falling in love until her knight in the shining armor comes and rescues her (from herself of course!). We have seen many love stories but this is one of a kind, the heroine has fallen in love with every man she has interacted with closely so far and gets hurt like it is going out of fashion. And let’s not forget the important fact that Miss Shehrnaz and the director of this play takes these heartbreaks very seriously because it gives them both an opportunity to make the most of the OST and kill (yes kill) some screen time! Also, the fact that Shehrnaz is so popular that most of the people around her don’t even recognize her is just plain hilarious! First Sherry had no idea that she was a famous film star and model and now Nofil asked her who she was and what was her name. The reply Shehrnaz gave him was even more funny “just Google my name!” LOL!!!

Shehrnaz Episode 14 Review - Dil Phenk Haseena

This drama has gone completely downhill but I must say that it provides some much-needed comic relief. All the tracks in the story show lack of creativity and the story is all over the place. The first few episodes were used to entice the viewers and to make them believe that this drama was going to be about Shehrnaz’s journey to stardom but that so-called journey was covered in 3 episodes and now it has turned into another sob story. It would have been better if the producers relied less on Ayeza Khan’s star power and focused more on the content of the script right till the end. Shehrnaz’s track has been all about her love life from the past few episodes and Sherry’s track covered how difficult it was for him to convince Sara to attend this wedding before and now both of them were seen continuously fighting about Shehrnaz. Sherry’s character is repulsive and one can only wonder why not just one but two women fell for him!

Every week I tune into this show hoping that the story will start making sense at some point but it is getting worse with every passing episode, you can’t help but laugh at some of the scenarios in this drama which are just plain lame! Like the bride and the groom getting up and walking all the way to welcome madam Shehrnaz. Shehrnaz’s transformation from an ambitious college girl to a desperate “star” is that of regression and not growth which makes it another one of those dramas in which a young, intelligent and confident girl turns into a dimwit instead of getting even more mature and sensible with time.

How many of you watched this episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Promos Of Yeh Raha Dil

Promos of drama Yeh Raha Dil are out and it’s a clear love triangle saga. It’s an Md productions serial, directed by Diraj Ul Haq and has been penned by Mustafa Afridi. Anam Ahmed, Yumna Zaidi and Ahmed Ali Akbar will be seen in the lead roles. Anam Ahmed had earlier described Yeh Raha Dil as a romantic comedy with interesting characters. The characters were introduced in the promos and this happy go lucky avatar of Yumna Zaidi seems interesting. The drama will soon air on Hum tv.

Neelam Munir & Sami Khan’s Upcoming Drama

0

The Chuppan Chuppai actress, Neelam Munir has several successful dramas to her credit. She is now all set to star in Geo’s upcoming drama titled Tere Bina opposite Sami Khan. Tere Bina is directed by Syed Ali Raza Usama and produced by Aijaz Aslam under the banner of Ice media and entertainment.

HIP got in touch with Neelam to find out a bit more about the drama and here is what she said,

“The play is very family oriented and I am sure the viewers will enjoy watching it. It is about a girl who does everything within limits but one wrong decision on her part to run away from home goes against her and from then onwards her life is spent just paying for that mistake.”

She further added,

“My character is a middle-class girl and as I said before one wrong move and she pays for it all her life. The ironic part is that she never planned to run away but due to some circumstances she had no choice but to take that step. The play will be dealing with girls who run away and how their lives are affected”

On being asked if there’s a message for the boys in Tere Bina, she replied,

“Yes absolutely, it is for the boys too as they make promises to the girls but seldom abide by them. This carelessness on their part fools the girls and causes them to take drastic steps that they regret all their lives.”

Govt Of Pakistan Issues Notification Allowing Bollywood Films To Release

0

The four months long ban on Bollywood films, and endless speculations, is finally coming to an end as the Government of Pakistan formally allows the release of Bollywood movies in the country. It was previously reported that Hritik Roshan’s Kaabil will release on January 27, but the release was yet again hailed due to unannounced issues.

The official notification, issued by the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage on Tuesday night, announces the continuation of ‘the existing open policy to display all international movies (including Indian films) in Pakistani cinemas’.

Films like Kaabil, Mahira Khan’s Raees and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil are expected to hit the cinemas soon. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which originally came out on October 28, 2016, has been submitted to Censor board after three months due to political tension between Pakistan and India.

Akshay Kumar’s Houseful which released earlier last year is currently shown in Pakistani cinemas and Raees and Kaabil are set to release on February 3.

Kuch Na Kaho Episodes 26 & 27 Review – Maanoos or Kharoos Mohsin?!

0

Well, I really enjoyed watching these two episodes. Mohsin’s attitude – not as much! Probably being the oldest in the house has made him the way he is where he thinks he has the final say and the most authority. Did not help matters much that Nadia never stood up for herself either and he continued to be the bossy one. I was honestly beginning to get a headache with his behaviour where he oscillates from being lovely and almost romantic to his usual screaming self. It is almost as if he has one of those split personality disorders and sadly I can almost begin to identify when he switches from maanoos Mohsin to kharoos Mohsin the way he cocks his head to one side, eyes widen and head wobbling he begins to yell!

Sajal and Faraz finally took their leave and it was actually heartbreaking to see Aina part from her child. What I have always loved about this drama is how easy it is to relate to most of the characters, their thinking, the way their lives unfold. Aina had given her child to Sajal but being physically apart broke her and eventually made her collapse. When Mohsin brought the twins home, I felt for Aina where in her mind she felt that Maaz had left but this child would fill the void in her heart that was created by Maaz leaving.

Kuch Na Kaho Episodes 26 & 27 Review - Maanoos or Kharoos Mohsin?!

I am also glad to see that bar, the jadoo scene with Sajal, Khala seems to be a positive character who has her heart in the right place. The way she told Mohsin off and helped Aina realize she needed some domestic help showed she meant well and did not show up merely to see how Aina was faring so she could gossip about it. I am a little taken aback by Mohsin’s attitude though where he expects Aina to take care of three children all of a sudden and not expect to take any sort of hit in his routine or his duties. He does seem to come round though as he gave in to Aina’s demand for a maid but then his extreme anger over her cooking was out of place. I am glad to see Aina finding her tongue again and managing to speak up for herself and that makes me think that this story could go either of two ways. Either this is what Mohsin needs, someone who can love him but also will not take his unrealistic demands lying down or maybe the fact that Aina speaks up for herself and does not say yes to everything Mohsin says will sour relations between them.

I have to say, I love Naveen Waqar’s acting. I feel when she cowers in front of Mohsin it seems a bit odd but other than that, her flippant responses and especially the way you could see her glow when she handled the children was so real and I have to hand it to her for portraying Aina so well. I feel bad for Aina where she hit rock bottom thinking that she should accept everything coming her way as a penance for the mistakes she seemingly made but then she manages to connect with herself, the old Aina and says what is on her mind. I was glad to see less of Sajal and more focus on the relationship between Mohsin and Aina and although it is tiresome how Mohsin gets angry at the drop of a hat but then again that is who he has always been so I suppose if he is to change then it needs to be shown eventually for it to seem realistic.

I did not think that the drama would extend to the time when the children grow up but comments from last week have led me to believe that is the case. I can only say that given how the director has managed to keep us engaged even 27 episodes down, bar a couple of episodes here and there, I hope the same can be said moving forward without making a huge khichri of the plot! Next week’s preview also reminded me that Mohsin still does not know Aina had married Imran and that Maaz is her child and given how Aina is shown to attach herself to the twin she feels will take Maaz’s place in her heart, makes me think there is definitely quite a bit more to come. I am quite curious to see how things develop between Mohsin and Aina, do they meet halfway or will their relation become bitter trying?

What did you all think of these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts.

She was recently spotted at a brunch adorning Islamic attire where she stated that she would only sing Sufi songs after a spiritual awakening. Fariha says she won’t be singing any ‘nonreligious’ and conventional Lollywood songs but will pursue her career as a ‘Sufi singer’ and will wear ‘Islamic clothes’. The singer also added that she is currently declining all offers for singing and performances.

Moray Saiyaan Episode 13 Review – Slow But Better!

Even though this episode was better than the previous episode but now when it has finished & I look back, I find no development in the story. They have stopped taking the story forward & are bent on proving how egoistic Zakia is. I think at this stage, all those that are following this drama pretty much know each & everything about the characters & their nature, so I am not sure why the same thing is being spoon-fed to the viewers again & again & again. Even though they tried to add some dramatic event in this episode, it looked nothing like a filler because the story on the whole did not move forward!

Nimra left & before leaving she for the last time tried to make her mother understand how she was only punishing herself with her bitterness. Zakia even felt that Anas’s wife was being selfish by choosing to go on a honeymoon, like Zakia wants everyone to ruin their lives for Nimra’s sake & shouldn’t do anything that makes them happy. It is Nimra who didn’t get married but Anas & his wife are newly weds, but looks like Zakia is even having a hard time accepting the fact that there are two members of this miserable family that are happy.

Zubaria’s hostel caught fire & Ghaziyan got a chance to rescue her. He brought her to his home & just because Zakia saw them having a conversation, she assumed that they were planning to throw her out, talk about being paranoid to the core. Zakia is not only egoistic but she is paranoid as well. It was hilarious how after getting brain-fed by his sister Waris walked in arrogantly, as if he came to pass a verdict but then ended up saying nothing because even he understood that Ghaziyan had a point & there was no reason to take Zubaria anywhere else when he had his own home where she as his wife could stay.

Zubaria started having some normal conversations with Ghaziyan but I would’ve liked more if their conversations didn’t revolve around Kabeer & Zakia. Zubaria tried to make Zakia understand & even apologized but she chose not to budge because she has nothing else in her life to do. Zakia’s only motive in life is to turn every other person into a miserable soul who has nothing to do with happiness or normalcy in their lives. Just like Zakia expects people to mourn the bechargi & phooti kismat of Nimra, she wants people to do the exact same thing for her too. Zubaria out of frustration & in order to prove how important Zakia is, made a promise to her that she won’t step in this house till the time Zakia will ask her to, which now looks like never ever again!

The preview of the next episode didn’t entice me enough because looks like we’ll be seeing some mid-life romance/cat fight between Kabeer & Zakia, euuu!!! Also looks like something is going to happen to Jamshed which Afshan will blame Ghaziyan for? I think now they have brought the drama to a very situational level where every single time new situation arises & they end up overcoming it in that particular episode, that would’ve seemed justified if while still doing that, they were moving the story forward too, but since that is not happening, the drama is becoming boring to watch. I really think they need to move the story forward quickly & most importantly, they need to cut down on the coverage that Zakia & her paranoia gets. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Moray Saiyaan!

Choti Si Zindagi Episode 17 Review – Team Ameena!

0

So while I enjoyed watching this episode, I am not too thrilled at the note it ended on. Urwah showed that he does have a compassionate side, actually let me rephrase that, for as Sohail rightly points out Urwah has shown his ‘khidmat guzaar’ side quite often but only to women he is not related to! Anyway, all the fuss I created last week over him being quite oblivious and cruel about taking care of his wife seems to have had some effect on him (haha) for he seemed to show a nicer side to Ameena. I like how she finally showed that she had had enough and gave him some attitude. I like Ameena’s personality, she is who she is and does not try to waste time in pretences. She was furious with Urwah but when he started talking to her she was okay although she did make it clear that she had had enough of his constant scolding.

The consequences of Ameena’s visit to the milad in the opposite ‘bai-lock’ were hilarious. I did kind of see where this was going when the woman questioned Ameena at the milad but the actual scene where she asks for her rishta and Ameena’s and Urwah’s expressions were priceless. Iqra Aziz and Shahzad Sheikh’s acting in that scene was flawless and really made me laugh.

Ameena, poor thing is often put down for being uneducated and while she may not be as ‘educated’ as Urwah may have preferred she is not jaahil and more interestingly, has quite a way with words. The way she questioned Urwah’s reaction to the rishta scene and likened it to how she may feel was interesting and on point. It also seemed that it struck a chord with Urwah but then I guess not.

Saiqa – what is her game plan I wondered? Until she pretty much spelled it all out. Itni desperation to ensnare Urwah. Taubah. Saiqa is seriously in a league of her own. It is sweet to see how Sohail has taken to Ameena and tries to knock some sense into Urwah’s head but all that seems to do is cause further damage. Urwah’s stuffy existence has begun to bother me. His sermons over how he should be nice and helpful to Saiqa while he treats Ameena horribly make me cringe. Sohail hits the nail on the head yet again with his dekh raha hoon tu shakal se aisa lagta nahin jis tarah ki tu harkatein karta hai!

Choti Si Zindagi Episode 17 Review - Team Ameena!

To be honest, after so much time having passed since their marriage, I now do not see what the issue is. Ameena seems to be quite the pleasing, complacent wife methinks! She cooks, cleans, does not moan about how she is bored and needs to be entertained – what is Urwah’s problem with her? Why the constant ‘you have made my life hell’ rant. She does not seem to be causing issues for Urwah so I wish he would elaborate when he starts yelling at her for having ruined his life and complicating it for I am as confused as Ameena!

While Shahzad Sheikh’s comical expressions made me laugh, it was definitely Iqra Aziz who made this episode enjoyable. She makes the innocence and confusion that Ameena feels so apparent and you can not help feel for her. She is not a bechari – bechari which makes her character even more endearing. The actor playing Sohail has really grown on me and I missed seeing more of him in this episode. Finding Saiqa’s desperation a little difficult to understand but oh well.

So Ameena has been sent off to her parents’ home and I wonder if Urwah will begin to miss her? At the rate he is going –  probably not! Someone needs to dig him out of his own stuffy, self importance first! Being a foodie myself, I can not help comment over how yummy that daal looked – and thankfully I have daal ready for dinner tonight – yayy. What did you all think of this episode – would love to hear your thoughts 

Muqabil Episode 9 Review – Engrossing

The fact that time literally flies whenever I watch Muqabil proves that this drama is not just impactful but it is engrossing as well. The director Ali Hassan has made sure that all the scenes keep the interest of the viewers intact and the writer Zafar Mairaj has written an extremely sensitive story in an intelligent manner without sensationalizing whatever happens between Mahmood and Pareesa in particular. My favorite scene from tonight’s episode was the one which covered the night of Pareesa and Arman’s wedding. The way Arman, Pareesa and Mahmood’s feelings were shown was beyond impressive. Pareesa’s expressions and body language changed with every door and window Arman closed and Arman’s reaction to what Pareesa told him was the most unexpected part of this scene. This scene was subtle but had great impact. The viewers saw just how messed up Pareesa was even though she pretended to be confident but she was still as effected by what happened to her so many years back as if it happened yesterday.

Although Pareesa chose Arman for different reasons but her intuition and her first impression of Arman was right. She trusted him with his flowers and knew that he was a good man, he is the kind of person who will stand by someone through thick and thin. I have always liked Arman’s character because we don’t see men like him in dramas very often. He is not perfect but his personality traits are different, appealing and very well defined. Mohsin Abbas Haider has owned this role completely right from the get-go. He is a natural who understands his character which is why he makes it come alive on screen almost effortlessly. Kubra Khan is another actress who gives perfect expressions every time and never goes over board. The look on her face every time she is close to the person who violated her shows how much she hates him.

Asif Raza Mir is a pro who knows his craft only too well. Mahmood is someone who thought he could move on and forget he did something so heinous if he continuously prayed. Now that the girl he raped is in his house as his bahu, he will be reminded of what he did every single day. The way Mahmood interacted with Pareesa however suggested that he wanted her to have a ‘normal’ relationship with him now that she was married to his son.

Muqabil Episode 9 Review - Engrossing

Pareesa’s parent’s guilt and everything their son told them was an important part of this episode and yet another aspect which was well-executed. I am glad Pareesa’s mother has not been shown as one of those mothers who are incapable of feeling anything for their children. Her guilt pangs make her character more realistic. Saba Hameed made her presence felt in both the scenes and made these scenes worthwhile even though the actor playing Pareesa’s brother isn’t a very polished actor.

Shaheen Khan’s scenes once again were the most annoying part of this episode. This episode would have been perfect if for once we did not have to hear her shouting again, not once or twice but a little too often and in every single scene! Anyone who hasn’t watched this episode yet should definitely forward her scenes because they can easily be skipped.

Muqabil is one of those dramas which I eagerly wait for every week. It is very well executed and has some remarkable performance to its credit. One of the best things about this play is that the story focuses on the main leads and even without any side tracks it keeps your interest alive.

How many of you watched this latest episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Upcoming Drama Serial “Khan” – Not To Be Missed

0

Ever since the promos came out there are multiple reasons why Khan has caught the attention of the public. The plot revolves around the character “KHAN” played by Noman Ijaz, who instead of being fearful of gangsters and warlords is afraid of the common man. This play is actually about the life of our very own political figure Imran khan The following clip of the preview shows clearly that the focus of the drama would be Tehreek-e-Insaf.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VILdzA9S5e0

On a daily basis one watches TV talk show hosts on nearly every channel who periodically monitor debates and document Pakistan’s snail-paced judicial process. TV anchors such as Mubashir Luqman, Shahzeb Khanzada, Kamran Khan, and Kashif Abbasi have become household names as they keep a hawk-eye on the peccadilloes of Pakistani politicians . These news hounds often face threats from powerful figures and the public should recognize and appreciate their concerted efforts to stand as bulwarks against the weight of political intimidation. The drama serial KHAN seems like it may take the same route.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66mqcjYuSlY

With this bold televised impetus, one hopes there will be more ongoing drama serials that delve into Pakistan’s political scenario and that the message journalists set out to convey are communicated vis a vis coherent drama scripts rather than round-table debates. This purview of relevant political stances conveyed through TV dramas and cinema will indubitably magnetize TV audiences who otherwise may have become jaded by TV talk shows.

One is still unsure if KHAN will target any one particular political issue, but one hopes the narrative sparks an interest in an audience who want to watch dramas focusing on politics and who when educated properly may rise up and make powerful contributions to improve Pakistan’s socio-political milieu.

Furthermore, since Pakistan only has ONE preeminent ” Khan” who remains in the spotlight, it might not be wrong to conjecture that this seemingly eponymous drama serial may be based – albeit not explicitly- on this individual’s efforts to usher in freedom and justice and mirror his public stance of challenging the status quo.

Sanam Episode 21 Review – Mann Mayal 2!

OMG! It is absolutely pathetic how the director had so many chances to end this drama decently but he chose not to because he was hell bent on turning Sanam into Mann Mayal 2 & this episode pretty much sealed the deal. Now everyone should buckle up & get ready to see 10 or probably 12 meaningless episodes of Sanam because it looks like Haseeb Hassan thinks he can not end a drama before 33 episodes. No wonder why 13 & 33 are considered to be jinxed numbers, Haseeb Hassan has made my belief firm on these numbers too now! Absolute Shame!

The moment I saw Aila’s mother out of nowhere, I knew I was in for a Mann Mayal 2 ride because even in Mann Mayal, Mannu’s parents made an appearance as the director deemed fit. After leaving their mad daughter on her own for like 12+ episodes & allowing her to commit all sorts of atrocities, Aila’s mother grew overly concerned for her & she thought just by saying ‘mai kitni dafa ai milne, kitni calls kin’, she will convince the viewers that she is a very good, very concerned mother who wasn’t MIA & was doing her job properly. Duh!!!

Even though it is amusing that Shabnam’s death was used as a plot twister, it made me happy because I then got to watch a 40 minute episode in 20 minutes because I knew Maya’s crying & caterwauling will give me cramps so I didn’t take a chance & forwarded her mourning. Oh, if I am not wrong, Shabnam told Harib ‘Bitto ka khayal rakhna’ before she took a flight off to another world but in the preview of the next episode, looks like Harib will be taking care of Bitto a bit too well lol!

Just when I was happy & expecting that this drama is about to end & I won’t have to deal with that weird & bizarre Qasab family, the director decided to rub them on our faces. Like is there even a SINGLE thing that has it going for this drama? Is there a SINGLE thing that is working in Sanam? The answer is a clear cut no. Another chance that the director got to finish this crap off was with when Taya asked Aan if she liked someone & wanted to get married to him, but like a sore loser, Aan said NO. Sorry, I am done with Aan’s meesni saadgi, why did she choose to say no when all she did in the last few episodes was hug Harib every chance she got & confessed her love to him? Abb itni sharam aur haya aur saadgi kahan se aa gai & most importantly KYUN? Oh, I know, because the director is profit hungry & seems like he was unable to reach a profit figure till 20th episode that he had in his mind, so he decided to drag the drama a bit further to make some more money!

The preview of the next episode is giving me anxiety already. Aan is going to play hide & seek with Harib but while she’ll be at it, Harib being a spineless loser that he is will now scurry to Aila saying he needs to give her some support for her madness. After literally treating Aila & her psychological disorder as an after thought in the first 21 episodes, the director & the writer have all of a sudden started showing signs of humanity LOL! I think this was writer’s way of telling to the world that she is not as insensitive as the first 21 episodes made her look like, so she is trying to do some redemption in the name of dragging the drama so that her husband brings in more bucks as well, like this is her way of assisting her husband’s hunger. It is ridiculous how the viewers put so much faith in Haseeb Hassan but I believe he just got lucky with Farhat Ishtiyaq’s amazing script, whereas his caliber is that of Aahista Aahista, Mann Mayal & now Sanam, like he has proved himself enough that he is also one of those rating monger directors who do not care a dime about what the viewers want, which is basically a story with some meaning & some purpose. I really hope & pray that the next drama of Haseeb Hassan turns out to be a bigger flop to serve as a reality check to him because he can not sell crap to the viewers again & again & again. Shame on Mr. & Mrs. Haseeb once again!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

PSL 2017 – Here’s The Official Video Anthem!

Pakistan’s most awaited series PSL 2017 is just around the corner and will kick off on February 9th, 2017 in Dubai. Ali Zafar performed at PSL’s 1st season and lent his voice for the official theme song ‘AbKhel Kay Dikha’ to much acclaim and the multi-talented singer has lend his voice yet again for this year’s #Kheljamega. His undeniable popularity is a testament to his body of work and songs which connect with the hearts and minds of our cricket loving nation. The audio anthem released earlier this month and now the official video is out and we must say the pump-up melody is super cool. Many popular cricketers are seen mingling in the video.

Here’s the song, sang by Shehzad Roy to celebrate the cricket spirit!

Updated: The first video featuring Ali Zafar is the original anthem, the earlier version of this post had a different embedded video.

It’s Time To Move On

Humsafar’s 6th anniversary was celebrated in September last year and I am all for it because It deserves to be celebrated. It was ‘Humsafar’ that gave Pakistani Drama Industry a Global identity but what happened after that is disastrous. Indeed it is and I can prove that. Pakistan currently has 20+ entertainment TV channels and These Channels collectively air 550+ Dramas per year. After December 2011, Almost all dramas aired on these 20+ Channels were about forced marriages or Saas/Bahu Sagas. Disastrous! Hence proved.

It's Time To Move On

Before launch of all these channels Pakistan used to have only one Entertainment channel named PTV. With limited resources and actors PTV explored all the Genres available. Have you forgotten those Horror shows like, December- Darwaza Khula Rakhna-Haqeeqat? Political Dramas? Thrillers? Sadly in today’s age of VFX,technology and acceptance where acting is no more a taboo in Pakistan we’re reduced to Saas-Bahu and Rishtay Wali aunties. C’mon let me take to a tour of what Pakistani Drama Industry can be:
It's Time To Move On
1- Action:

Why aren’t we making dramas on Army/ ISI/ Airforce/ Navy/ why? We have great directors like Sarmad Khoosat and great actors like Hamza, Maya, Fawad, Humaima, Mahira. Who would look amazing with guns and kicking some asses here and there?

2- Fantasy:

Ainak Wala Jin, anyone? C’mon Pakistani creatives show us your VFX skills and costume designing skills. You have some amazing writers why can’t you write some amazing Fantasy dramas?

3- Comedy:

Oh please! Forget Bulbulay and Dugdugi. We want some dark comedy so we can enjoy it and get something from it. Please note dark comedy doesn’t mean absurd comedy.

4- Mystery:

Des Pardes, Irtika, Masuri? Like that. I know many of you are smiling remembering these masterpieces. :) We have all kinds of mysteries in Pakistan now all you need is to mix them into your writing and make a magic potion to give us a quality entertainment.

5- History:

Masuri again comes under this heading and so do Dastaan & Mor Mahal (Great try in recent times) But why can’t we try others. We all enjoyed Jodha Akbar and Bajirao Mastaani but why it has to be from India if we have to enjoy it?

It's Time To Move On

6- Horror:

We all believe in Jins,Bhoot, Rooh! Now don’t we? Oh we do! But we will only watch paranormal activity and praise it. Par Hum Tv pe ManMayal hi acha lagta hai! least said the best.

7- Political:

Mera Saeein. Now we all loved it. Didn’t we? except for the part where it was made a show that showed only women being tortured and men were shown only as sex predators. No one is that one dimensional. But great try and it worked too. We had a Season 2 of it as well. Remember?

8- Slice of Life:

Remember the days we used to have dramas inspired from real life incidents? and in recent time we had Sadqay Tumharay, yes it was a love story but it was much much more than that. A controversial story of a society and It worked with the audience.

It's Time To Move On

9- Crime:

All types of Crimes are happening in Pakistan. don’t glorify it but just have  new ideas to write and make people aware while entertaining them. I know Postcards are for messages and Tv is for entertainment but Crime drama can be much much more entertaining than we think. Udaari? recent example.

10- Romance:

It’s a genre. Treat it as one. Keep it as one. Don’t make it wholesome TV, please.

I beg of you writers to fetch your pens and Directors to roll your cameras and make something good to watch.

Thank you.

Azhar

Tapal’s Latest TVC

Tapal’s Latest tvc starring the very handsome Adeel Hussain and gorgeous Sanam Saeed is set to make waves. The new advertisement will make all of you fall in love with Adeel Hussain all over again! Tapal yet again breaks the stereotype of a wife always cooking for the husband, since in the ad, Adeel Hussain makes tea for his tired wife.

The tag line ‘Tum, mein aur aik cup chai’ encompasses the same concept of gender role-reversal; it tells men that doing things together will only bring you closer, so why not begin with making a cup of tea! Not only does this ad send out a positive message to society but has a visual appeal too. Adeel Hussain and Sanam Saeed look adorable in the tvc.

Tapal’s another tvc starring Saba Qamar released earlier today and is intense with a pinch of boldness. Saba Qamar’s beauty can never be neglected as she looks extremely beautiful in the tvc. It’s all about #mereMannKiDhunn.

Sammi Episode 1 Review – Slaves To The System

Sammi promises to be another drama which will not only focus on some of the customs followed by people in remote villages through which they exploit women but it is also going to be the story of a survivor. Many of the viewers like myself who live in a world completely different from that of Sammis of this country very often find it hard to believe that even in this day and age there are traditions such as that of Vani in which young girls are used to settle family feuds so that the men of their families won’t have to bear the repercussions of their actions. Dramas like these serve as a reality check and help greatly in bringing these stories to light. They cause awareness and give rise to empathy in general public and even those people who do not tune into news channels often or read newspapers in detail get to know about the kind of life some people are forced to lead in these villages. Women are exploited in different ways all around the globe but what we watched in tonight’s episode went to show that women like Sammi do not have an identity. Their men are their “maalik” and they make all the decisions for them. The message in tonight’s episode was loud and clear. The clarity in the script and the manner in which it was executed was the highlight of this episode. The writer and the director made sure that even those viewers like myself who were not very sure what to expect from this drama knew exactly what the Sammi team had in store for them.

The issue of Vani was highlighted once before too in drama serial Numm but the hodge-podge script turned it into a weird love triangle and there was very little focus on the actual topic. This first episode of Sammi however gave a decent introduction to how a girl like Sammi (Mawra Hocane) who had a seemingly perfect relationship with her brother Waqas (Haris Waheed) was give away as Vani because that was the only way for her brother to escape punishment. Chaudhry Rab Nawaz’s (Rehan Sheikh) decision to settle this dispute in a jirga was also an interesting insight into why these cases never make it to the court. He did not let Fazal (Noor-ul-Hassan) go to the police because he considered it an insult! This was a perfect example of the fact that how a handful of ignorant and greedy people can ruin the entire system. Waqas and Riaz Jutt (Irfan Khoosat) were the only two people responsible for Pervaiz’s murder but in the end Sammi was the only one who had to pay for it. I liked the way Waqas tried to talk his father out of asking Pervaiz for the haq mehr but later on went ahead and did something terrible only because he had a big ego. It went to show that even those people who do not necessarily accept such a system end up becoming a part of it. Fazal also did not want to accept Sammi as Vani but he was left with no choice because that was the only way he could continue being part of the baradari.

Sammi Episode 1 Review - Slaves To The System

Sammi it seems is going to focus on Vani and baradari system and what kind of a role this system plays in such villages. Sammi wasn’t the only victim in this episode Pervaiz and his parents too suffered due to the mentality of all those people who cannot see beyond power and monetary gains. Sammi has a brilliant cast, all of these wonderful actors know exactly what is expected of them. It also has a brilliant writer and an extremely creative director therefore the expectations attached to this play are huge. We need more dramas which don’t just entertain but serve a bigger purpose and I hope that Sammi will succeed in doing so. This first episode was well-executed and gave the drama a decent beginning.

While everyone else changed their outlooks to fit the role and the entire set up was perfect but Mawra Hocane’s short shirts and patiala shalwars as well her fairly decent make-up and her accent made her look like an outsider. It would have been good if she took some inspiration from Urwa Hocane who did her best to look like someone who was raised in a village in drama serial Udaari. We have seen Mawra Hocane sporting this look in so many other dramas even though her roles in those dramas were completely different from this one. Sammi’s character would have been easier to connect to if she looked like someone who was raised in a remote village.

Overall, this was a happening episode of Sammi which would have been even more enticing if the promos of the play wouldn’t have been so detailed. The surprise factor was completely taken away because of the promos. Even then, the manner in which Sammi went from being a happy bride-to-be to a Vanni was shown convincingly. It was definitely the kind of episode which gives you a reason to look forward to more.

“This is a very different script and story, you can say it is somewhat of a romantic comedy which is based around the lives of three characters with completely different personalities.”

On being asked how all were different, Anum added,

“Well, one is a hippie writer while the other is confused in life and the last one is a total diva. The story becomes interesting when these characters meet and how they link into each other lives. It is not a typical Saas bahu story so the audiences will enjoy watching Yeh Raha Dil “
