There is no doubt that are Entertainment Industry is pooled with immense talent and dynamic ranges. Our artists are not only talented but they work so hard in their respective fields that they have recognised themselves globally. Same goes to our drama industry it is filled up with lots of talented actors and actresses, their determination and hard work had converted this small screen into big screen. Our dramas are now worldwide popular, they are in huge demand in all over the world making a particular image of Pakistan. The talent is still pouring in our drama industry for example: Sana Javed, Mansha Pasha and Hamza abbasi etc.
Now first come to the meaning of this word talented, what do you mean by talented actors/actresses? why audience call a particular actor or actress talented? For me a talented actor/actress is a person who can show dynamic ranges in his/her skills and who can provide variety in his/her role in a perfect manner. Actors or actresses who can do one type of role perfectly are known as specialised as they have done same kind of roles in past. However because of performing same kind of role with such skills and experience they become victim of Type casting. Type Casting means they are mostly offered each time with same types of role. I will not call this a good thing but a waste of talent due to this many artist fails to exploit their talent and sadly this is happening in our dramas as well. When directors know that this actor or actress can perform this type of role perfectly they cast them again and again in a same type of role nonetheless there is saying in Urdu that “TAALI AIK HATH SE NAHI BAJTI” our actors and actresses also love to perform these kind of roles again and again because they find it easy to perform.
Here is a list of some actors/actresses that I have noticed have become a victim of type casting:-
1. Ayeza Khan: She is on top in my list and not only in my list but I might say in others list too. Well she is my favourite actress not only because she is beautiful but she is a good actress as well. In fact after watching “Pyaray Afzal” and “Ghalti se mistake hogai” I came to know that she can perform comedy roles very well and in drama “AKS” I really liked her villain type role. However the reality is she is the biggest victim of type casting and no one had performed so many roles of so called “roti dhoti aurat” which Ayeza had performed. Just because she is so good in this all directors are utilizing her intensively and I also felt that she loves to do these kind of roles.
2. Ahsan Khan: Again not in my eye but in other people eyes too he is the only sweet man of drama Industry. No difference between Ayeza and him, in his every drama all problems came in his way and instead of fighting like a man he started to react like a woman who don’t know what to do. I only like his two characters one in “Dastaan” and one in “Paani Jesa Pyar” and honestly speaking he is flawless in these roles but I don’t understand why directors are not giving him different roles. I bet he can do villain type roles as well Ahsan is a talented actor but now he has become a victim of type casting.
3.Faisal Qureshi: When was the last time does anybody seen him in a comedy role well I guess after a soap “Kis din mera viyah hoega” he hasn’t done a funny character please correct me if I am wrong. He is truly a versatile actor how can I forget “BOOTA FROM TOBA TEK SINGH” despite being so young in age I use to watch this drama and now I become bored by watching his constant serious face. Well I would say the only man who cry more than a woman. Starting from “Meri Zaaat Zara-e-Benishan” he is still performing same kind of role most recent is “Adhori Aurat” and still he gets award now how cool is that, someone please show me a wall so that I can bang my head.
4. Ismat Zaidi: If you want to call her a sweetest mother in dramas then please call her loudly I won’t stop you. Ismat Zaidi is a mature and senior actress and I always admire her acting but seriously if GOD has made her sweet by face that doesn’t mean that directors will cast her in same kind of role every time. In every drama she becomes the sweetest mother who talks with such humbleness that next person will begin to shy. Well I cannot say much about her because probably this is the only role that suits her I guess but still she is a victim of type casting.
5. Maya Ali: She is the bubbly character of drama Industry at first I thought that she is the perfect variation in Industry where actors are becoming victims of type casting. Her first three projects are really great. She had performed the character of Cinderella absolutely brilliantly and in Aunn Zara she was simply stunning I think no one had played the role of a bubbly yet responsible wife and a tomboyish type of girl but I guess Haisaam Hussain is only the one who had made Maya to perform these characters in an impeccable manner. After opting out from Haissam Hussain’s direction Maya is still performing a tomboyish roles in her current two dramas, a girl who is stubborn and outspoken and careless. Seriously now I am also getting bored by watching her is same role and I expect her to do some serious or sweet roles in future. Maya is now also a victim of type casting
.
6. Mahira Khan: The most “MAZLOOM LARKI” of the Industry however from the face she don’t look alike. Whether in drama “Neeyat”, “Humsafar” or “Shehr-e-zaat” or even in film “BOL” no actress had cried a lot in comparison with her, everything wrong happens to her and she always faces deceptiveness and bears atrocities. While watching drama Humsafar each time she appeared in the scene I use to prepare myself for weeping. If you ask me what other role she can perform best then I will say villain type roles like Sanam Saeed had performed in drama “Kudurat”. Hoping to see her in different role in Project “Bin Roye Aansu”.
7. Sanam Jung: Ok well she had only done two projects, one is currently ON-AIR I may be wrong about her but I had a feeling that she is becoming a victim of type casting as well. In her two projects she has played the role of most Innocent girl on earth who knows nothing about the cunningness of this society. Someone tell directors please that if a girl is innocent by face that doesn’t mean that she has to perform same role each time. Sanam Jung can do comedy roles very well but Sanam Jung is overrated because of her face she needs to groom her acting skills sometimes she lacks in expressions.
8. Sami Khan: His roles are also similar to Ahsan Khan. He always appear in sad roles and with a constant grim face. Although I have watched 2 or 3 dramas of Sami Khan but I have found him performing the sad type of roles which can be easily relate to the roles that Ahsan Khan mostly perform. Despite having a charming personality and good looks this is the main reason why some people don’t like him. He is also in the list of victims of type casting.
Thus these are the only name which is currently on my mind, if you have any then please provide with some related dramas.
With million-dollar red carpet fashions and paparazzi stampedes, it’s easy to forget that most celebrities grew up just like the rest of us. In fact, quite a few faced incredible hardships before they made it big.
Fall seven times, stand up eighth. The following celebrity stories show that we should never give up our dreams and work hard to achieve them and that life can be tough but where there’s a will there’s a way.
Another thing to note is that many of our celebrities were as indecisive as we are sometimes. They are just flawed as we are because after all, these flaws and shortcomings are what makes us (and them) human.

4.Mahira Khan
Now that is a million dollar smile. Yes, we are talking about the gorgeous Mahira Khan, the lovely actress who has been ruling the hearts of Pakistanis since her hit drama “Humsafar”. To say Mahira joined showbiz because of poverty is wrong but she did have a very struggling life when she lived in America to study as an undergraduate at the University of Southern California .She worked as a store keeper, washed washrooms and did some other odd jobs to support her expenditures. After so many years of constant struggles, she is now one of the biggest names of our Entertainment Industry as well as one of the highest paid actresses.

Her life was fine, until one night, out of pure anger, her husband divorced her providing her with next to nothing to support herself. She was pretty young when this incident happened. She got very awful, cheap and low level roles when she started her career as an actress, but she accepted those roles for the sake of earning money. She rose to fame with her Momo character in comedy drama serial ‘Bulbulay’.
6.Faisal Qureshi
This veteran actor struggled a lot before becoming famous. His father died when Faisal was too young and there was no one is his family to support him. He joined the showbiz industry and first few years were very challenging for him. He tried his luck in Pakistani films first but didn’t receive much success there so he tried his luck on television where he blossomed. After all the hard work and hardships, Faisal is now one of the richest actors of Pakistan.
7.Ali Zafar
Not many know that Ali Zafar is a skilled artist. He had sketched his first comic at the age of 8, and by his teenage days he was already making money from his art. He used to work as a sketch artist in a hotel lobby. He always had a very creative mind and a lot of passion. He enjoyed sketching but he discovered his first love was music and acting so left his career as an artist for it.
9.Humaima Malik
Humaima Malik who has now become an elite class diva didn’t have a past complementing her present. Humaima was once a struggling actress who was working very hard to get a lead role. It is said that she married Shamoon Abbasi just to be able to get casted in good roles on television. After marrying the director and well settled actor, she got leading roles in Hum TV Dramas ; Ishq Junu Deewangi and Taire Lahooti. Since then she has only flown up the road of success and fame.
10.Ayyan Ali
This beauty is probably one of the most controversial celebrities of our Industry. A lot of people blame her past for the flaws they find in her present. Her parents divorced when Ayyan was very young and she started living alone with her mother after the divorce. Last year, her father said that he hadn’t seen Ayyan since the last 10 years. Her mother was the one who had pushed her into showbiz.

Zanjeerain is a popular Pakistani prime-time drama series airing on Hum TV. The drama is directed by Shahzad Kashmiri, written by Farhat Ishtiaq, and presented by Momina Duraid Productions. The story revolves around the tribal culture of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sajal Aly plays the character of Rabiya, a strong and hardworking woman whose husband, Mudassir, was killed by her former fiancé. The story takes a new turn when she becomes the responsibility of her late husband’s best friend. Fans are loving the drama and its stellar cast; however, Zanjeerain was not initially finalized with the same lead cast.
According to details shared by TV critic Dr. Ejaz Waris, the role of Sar Buland Khan, which is currently being portrayed by Daniyal Zafar, was originally offered to Bilal Abbas Khan and he rejected it. If the initial cast was locked, the drama would have featured Sajal Aly and Bilal Abbas Khan as the lead pair. Similarly, the character of Zafran Khan was initially offered to Nauman Ijaz, marking a significant casting difference. The role currently played by Sehar Hashmi was reportedly offered to Mamya Shajaffar, who even completed one day of shooting before the cast was changed. According to Dr. Ejaz Waris, Sehar Hashmi’s character will eventually die, and the story will then be led by Usman , Sajal Aly, and Daniyal Zafar. Watch here:
Fans are giving mixed reactions, with some saying that the original cast was amazing. A few said, “Bilal Abbas probably rejected the role because he felt that Usman had more scenes.” One fan wrote, “The drama would have been on another level if Bilal had been the main lead.” Bilal Abbas’s fans are happy that he did not accept the drama. Last year we made a list of actors who we felt needed to up their game especially when it came to showing versatility and adding more substance to their performances. All these actors were gifted without any doubt, they just needed to choose the projects they worked in more carefully because they were being constantly stereotyped. This year it was great watching some of those actors who topped that list in 2016, showing more versatility and giving the viewers some unforgettable performances as opposed to the clichéd or annoying roles they chose to play last year. Their performances in the year 2017 showed that they are here to stay and they will continue to enthrall the viewers with their impressive acting skills. Some of these actors also compromised on quality last year because they were busy working across the border, we are delighted to have them back!
Here is a list of those actors who upped their game in 2017 and we are expecting even better from them in the upcoming year.
Shehzad sheikh deserves to be in this list more than any other actor because he definitely upped his game in every department. His polished acting skills and the kind of projects he decided to work in, won the viewers over completely. His roles in drama serials Alif Allah Aur Insaan and Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei were both likeable and meaningful. He gave solid performances in both the dramas which is why the viewers couldn’t help but feel for his characters. Gulrez was a simple yet sensitive individual and so was Basit. Both these characters went through a great deal during their journey and gave the viewers a reason to look forward to their tracks. We are definitely looking forward to what Shehzad sheikh has in store for us in the future.
Ayeza Khan
Ayeza Khan chose to play a few challenging roles this year and she excelled in them as well. This year she made her comeback with drama serial Shehrnaz which can easily be termed as the worst drama of the year because the script went downhill fast after 6 weeks or so but it was good to see Ayeza Khan in a bubbly go-getter avatar for a change. Her characters and performances in drama serials Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei and Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua were also different from the bechari roles she has been seen in over and over again. Ayeza Khan nailed both these roles although they were challenging. Her dialogue delivery, body language and overall look suited the characters which is why we expect something even more grand from her in 2018.
Sajal Ali
There was a time when Sajal Ali was being typecast or may be she herself was choosing more or less similar kind of roles because she wanted to stick to her comfort zone but not anymore. Sajal Ali has now started exploring different genres of dramas and is now choosing such characters which not only allow her to experiment but also let her showcase her caliber as an actor. Currently, Sajal Ali is being seen in two dramas Yakeen Ka Safar and O Rangreza and both her characters are completely different from one another, where one is a subtle character and the other is completely boisterous and she fits both the roles perfectly. Sajal has done complete justice to the characters of Zubiya and Sassi which goes to show that she is a fine actress who can own any role that is assigned to her. Sajal really has improved her graph as an actress and it is good to know that she is not going to stick to similar kind of roles from now on, which really makes us look forward to her future projects.
Imran Abbas
Even though Imran Abbas was always a star in Pakistan and gave super-hit dramas to his fans, he took a long break in order to work in India but ever since he has returned, he really has upped his game because the amount of work that he has done goes to show that he not only believes in quality but also wants to provide variety to all those viewers who tune to his dramas. Even though Imran Abbas is mostly seen in love stories, he still makes sure that there’s enough margin for him to perform differently and for this reason we totally believe that he has upped his game.
Sana Fakhar
There’s no doubt about the fact that Sana Fakhar knows how to act but when it came to dramas, she really wasn’t getting enough opportunities to showcase her talent, however, that is not the case anymore. It is good to see that the drama makers have started offering Sana the roles she can do complete justice to and Sana on her own is giving her 100% to the characters that are assigned to her. Sana has been seen in Alif Allah Aur Insaan and O Rangreza, even though one can draw a similarity between these two characters but the portrayal is completely different. It is good to see Sana Fakhar choosing such roles which she can portray effortlessly and that shows that she has really started choosing her projects wisely.
Ushna Shah
Even though Ushna Shah doesn’t have many projects to her credit in recent times, her single performance in Alif Allah Aur Insaan outweighs everything that she has done so far. With her portrayal of Raani in Alif Allah Aur Insaan, Ushna Shah proved a point that when given the opportunity, she can turn into a character actor too because before this drama, Ushna was sporting a very specific kind of image in all of her dramas and no one could actually imagine seeing her in a role which was anything but glamorous. Ushna Shah’s graph has skyrocketed after her role of Raani because with this she has shown what she is capable of. Ushna Shah has definitely upped her game and we can’t wait to see what she has in store for the drama-buffs.
How do you feel about the actors in the list? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about these actors and feel free to add to the list.
Pakistani dramas have always been adored by the audiences and what makes them worth the praise, are the actors who complete them. There are actors who work in the industry for many years, and there are those too, who only work for a short span of time but still manage to leave an impact on the audiences.
As one of the most competitive professions in the world, the acting world is insanely difficult to succeed in. And Pakistani drama industry is fully packed with amazing actors. However, there are many talented actors hardly seen in dramas anymore. While, some are waiting for a good script, the others are making it big in the films. Despite seeing many new actors on-screen, we still miss those who gave us some memorable performances.
So, here’s a list of actors who should make a comeback in dramas.
1) Fawad Khan
Fawad Khan is such a powerhouse of talent that he floors critics with every character he plays. He started his acting career in 2001 but rose to fame with Humsafar, in particular. His performance in Humsafar was not just applauded in Pakistan, but across the border as well. Fawad’s effortless acting connected us to every character he played. While he’ll be making a comeback with Bilal Lashari’s film this year; we still miss his presence on our TV screens because that magic is nowhere to be seen.
2) Sanam Baloch
Once a household name of drama industry, Sanam Baloch is not seen in dramas anymore. She began her career in 2008 and gave some strong performances in dramas like Durreshawar, Daam and Dastaan. Sanam’s versatility has ranked her among the best actresses of the drama industry because she managed to cast her magic on the audience every time she appeared on-screen. Her persona, beauty and above all, brilliant acting skills made her characters, the most memorable. Her natural acting and confident performance brought life to every character and I’m sure nobody would’ve been a better Bano in Dastaan.
3) Sanam Jung
The VJ turned actress, Sanam Jung’s career is on a pause because it’s been a while since she was seen on-screen. With just a few dramas to her credit, Sanam managed to build a niche for herself. Basically, she came and conquered it all but disappeared a while later. It is said that she’ll continue her career, but there’s no news of her comeback till now. Sanam played only a handful of characters, but owned every character assigned. Dil-e-Muztar and Alvida are among her best performances and she’s certainly missed.
4) Fahad Mustafa
Fahad Mustafa is riding high these days after the success of his film. To pursue his film career and focus more on his production house, the Actor In Law is currently on a break from dramas. Fahad’s 15 years long career can never be described in a few words because there’s a long list of remarkable performances given by him. He has proven his versatility with dramas like Mera Saein and Mein Abdul Qadir Hoon, where he left the audiences speechless with his flawless and unique performances. In short, he nails every character he’s assigned. There were times when his dramas failed to do well, but he still proved that he’s a fine actor.
5) Danish Taimoor
Danish Taimoor started off as a model and went on to become a popular actor. He started his acting career in 2005 and there’s no looking back since then. Danish’s confident acting and strong expressions helped him to get into the films. His notable dramas include chemistry, Thora Sa Asman, Meri Behn Maya and Aik Pal. The chocolate boy has already done 2 films and is geared up for four upcoming films. However, Danish’s film Tum Hi To Ho is an utter disappointment, but that’s probably a whole different debate.
6) Adeel Hussain
Adeel Hussain is one of the finest actors we have today, he proved his acting skills in dramas like Daam, Mata-e-Jaan and Mohabbat Subh Ka Sitara Hai. He started his career in the late 90’s, but rose to prominence after he nailed the character of Junaid in Daam. Adeel’s powerful acting has earned him a massive fan following.
Pakistani film industry is finally back on track with one or two good films coming out every year now. But some years since the revival we see similar faces on big screen repetitively. Although we have a lot of talent present, we only see Humayun Saeed, Danish Taimoor and Fahad Mustafa in cinemas among some other faces. So here is my list of actors who I think should be seen in films now. Take a look:
Imran Abbas Naqvi:
Imran Abbas has been among the top leading men of the industry for quite sometime now. He ha given a lot of hit dramas in his career. He also starred as a lead in a film but no, not in a Pakistani film but a Bollywood flick. He also did a cameo in another. What I was wondering is why he has not been approached by any Pakistani film maker yet? He has the looks, acting skills and overall persona that he can step into a romantic hero role any day. I think it is high time that he start appearing in films where he can get substantial roles too unlike his Bollywood ventures where his characters had nothing to offer. Yes he did Abdullah but the film went unnoticed so he should start becoming a part of commercial cinema which people are now watching and loving the products of our local film industry.
Zahid Ahmed:
Zahid has proved his mettle in a very short time. He started with Mehram and now is at the top of his game. He has done intense, mellow as well as psychotic roles. With the looks he has and the talent he possesses Zahid surely can be a part of a film like Ek Villain or Shutter Island. He will do justice to the role undoubtedly. He can also star in action flicks and will suite the role equally. Apart from casting the same faces again and again I think Zahid can prove to be a good choice for film makers.
Agha Ali:
Agha Ali can be casted among a variety of roles. If anyone has seen Ghundi where he starred opposite Uroosa Siddiqui, they will agree with me. He can do the chocolate hero or angry young man any day too. With his latest stint in Be Intiha, I am convinced he will be great in typical stalker hero roles too where heroine is always confused and hero still keeps going after her Lollywood style (throw in some songs too lol). He has the personality which will allow him to win a lot of hearts if he stars in a feature film.
Noman Ijaz:
From a cruel landlord to a politician and from a loving husband to a confused man in love he has already done everything. He can act as the father of Mikaal Zulfiqar in one play and can go on to star opposite Saba Qamar in the next, that is his range of acting prowess. Noman Ijaz can make a film alive any day with a strong character role as he make his dramas memorable with powerful performances. He will be starring in a film called Maidan as per the reports. He will be playing the role of a coach. But since there are no more updates on the film I felt like including him in the list because we need to see this man ruling the silver screens in the same way he rules our television screens.
Fahad Mirza:
Fahad Mirza can do justice to a rom-com quite easily. He has mostly done those kinds of roles in dramas too and he is surely good at it. It would be a good idea to cast Fahad as some anti-hero too. Fahad will definitely be the best choice for a Pakistani Norman Bates if we ever make a desi Psycho. The guy who looks cute but is downright evil. So he can also be a valuable addition to film industry with a range of characters in which he would look suitable.
Imran Ashraf:
I am extremely impressed with his way of performing. He makes every character look alive and a viewer can relate to it. The way he has performed Shamu in Alif Allah Aur Insaan is the recent proof how versatile he can be. Though I would not have thought of him being casted in some romance film but his cute boy role in Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua says otherwise. I think he can be perfect for a nerd boy meets carefree girl stories. So he should be a given a chance to show his talent in the films.
These are my suggestions for the faces who should be seen in films. Which other actors you think should be a part of films? Share in comments!
Acting is no easy feat. It is the kind of job that demands and requires a whole other level of skill and craftsmanship from an actor. Even though some actors are gifted, there are also such actors who learn on the job because acting itself is an institute. Those actors who strive hard to learn and improve then become powerful performers and they then leave an impact on the viewers who tune to their dramas.
Our drama industry is dynamic and ever changing therefore it is very easy for an actor to be forgotten but then, over the years we have seen such actors and actresses who have stayed true to their craft and have finally made a mark in the industry. For an actor, everything else is secondary but what is the most important aspect is their prowess in playing with the camera, owning it and conveying everything that a character goes through and all that happens when the actor learns how to act.
This list is dedicated to all those actors who have proved their mettle over the period of time and have left the viewers awe-inspired by their great acting skills. These are those actors who actually entice the viewers to look forward to their future projects. So, the actors who have proved their mettle are:
Imran Ashraf
Imran Ashraf made his presence felt in drama serial Dillagi and there was no turning back for him after that. He has always impressed the viewers with his versatility and sheer brilliance as a performer. The honesty and dedication with which Imran Ashraf has worked over the years and the kind of projects he has chosen to be a part of make him a suitable candidate for this list. Recently, his mind-blowing performances in Alif Allah aur Insan and Ranjha Ranjha Kardi won him an unprecedented fan following as well as recognition. Bhola’s character in particular has given Imran Ashraf a new identity as a performer who can translate the most challenging characters almost effortlessly on screen. Imran Ashraf is here to stay and he has tons to offer, he surely has proven himself as a brilliant performer not once but over and over again.
Sanam Chauhdry
Sanam Chauhdry is a gifted actor. It won’t be wrong to say that she is the find of our drama industry because Sanam’s grip on acting and her finesse in portraying her characters is commendable. Sanam Chauhdry has proven her versatility over the years and she is one of those very few actors who not only experiment but also bring something new to the table. In the recent years, Sanam Chauhdry has given a lot of varied and memorable performances and she is the kind of actress who can carry the entire drama on her shoulders. Sanam Chauhdry’s recent Ghar Titli Ka Par garnered popularity slowly because of her portrayal of Anji. She then appeared in a totally different role in drama Haiwan impressing everyone with her flawless performance and is now doing wonders in currently airing Hum TV drama Meer Abru.
Iqra Aziz
Iqra Aziz has come a long way, Ranjha Ranjha Kardi has been a game changer for her since she got a chance to showcase her talent as a powerful performer in the play. Iqra Aziz has always done justice to the characters she has played but Noori has to be the most challenging character she has played till date yet she never ceases to impress the viewers. Even though this character has its due share of weaknesses, Iqra Aziz has owned it right from the get-go, impressing the viewers every step of the way. With some big hits and phenomenal performances to her credit, Iqra Aziz is the most sought after female actress right now and definitely someone who deserves to be in this list.
Hira Mani
Hira Mani has proved her acting prowess right from her very first project but as the time has passed by, she has only improved and amazed the viewers with her spellbinding performances. Hira Mani has that star quality because of which she can be the front runner and lead the drama. Hira Mani was impressive in her first quality drama Preet Na Kariyo Koi and in her recent blockbuster Do Bol she once again showed what she is made of. Hira Mani has been a part of some amazing dramas, she has always picked up different and challenging roles and has always done justice to them all. We are keen to see what her next project would be.
Affan Waheed
Affan Waheed has been a part of the industry from quite some while now but he has slowly and steadily paved his path to success. Affan Waheed has been a part of some amazing dramas and has consistently performed brilliantly. Affan Waheed’s recent block buster Do Bol gave him a chance to showcase his talent by portraying such a complex character which Affan did justice to. We are sure that after this drama, Affan Waheed will go places and the drama buffs will be looking forward to see what he is going to bring to the table next. Affan Waheed has really showed his talent over the years and proved that he is a brilliant performer and actor.
Hania Aamir
Hania Aamir has a definite screen presence which makes her the main attraction in every project she has ever been a part of. Starting from her very first appearance on the big screen to all the times she has mesmerized the viewers with her performances on television – Hania Aamir has always delivered. Hania Aamir is also one of those few actresses who can make you relate and connect to even the most negative characters by presenting the biggest shortcoming in these characters as human flaws. Her performances in Titli and Anaa prove just that. Hania Aamir is another actor whose acting is always effortless.
Sajal Ali
Sajal Ali has garnered a lot of experience over the years and she is a talented actor in literal sense. The way Sajal Ali plays with the camera and breathes life into her characters sets her apart. Watching Sajal Ali on screen is nothing short of a treat because she has so much to offer in terms of acting, expressions and performance. Sajal Ali also does not shy away from taking up different and challenging roles. Over the years she has given us some amazing dramas and unforgettable characters. Sajal Ali is the only actor who has made Aangan worthwhile with her excellent portrayal of a layered character of Chammi.
Sami Khan
Sami Khan is another serious performer who has done all kinds of roles in his long career as an actor. He has always outshone in every single character he ever opted to play whether that character was black, white or grey. Sami Khan excels in bringing out the best and the worst in his characters. One of the biggest reasons why Sami Khan has proven himself as an intelligent actor is that he always underplays his characters with finesse and emotes so well on screen. Sami Khan’s acting in Aisi Hei Tanhai, Khudgarz, Woh Mera Dil Tha and Inkaar are the reason why we are fully convinced that he is here to stay. He shares amazing on-screen chemistry with all his co-stars which gives him that extra edge. An actor who always impresses the viewers and manages to steal the show even when he is working with some of the most talented people in the industry, Sami Khan is truly gifted in more ways than one.
Ushna Shah
Ushna Shah has been a part of the industry for quite a while now and it is really impressive to see how far along she has come in terms of acting. Initially, Ushna Shah really struggled but as thr time went by, she really worked hard on herself and was on the road to success because she tackled her weaknesses as an actor and improved her acting a great deal. The turning point of Ushna Shah’s career was her phenomenal performance in Alif Allah Aur Insaan where she played the role of Raani whose life turns out to be quite a roller coaster ride. After that Ushna Shah gave a stellar performance in Lashkara. Even though the drama Balaa was a quite a drag and very much negative, but Ushna Shah stayed true to the character and performed it brilliantly by making everyone hate the character of Nigar. Ushna Shah has to be one of those actors who have only improved for the better and has showcased such acting that no one knew she had it in her.
Zahid Ahmed
Zahid Ahmed has garnered a lot of popularity over the years and for all the right reasons. Zahid Ahmad’s grip on acting and his unique voice has played to his advantage. Zahid Ahmed is the kind if actor who believes in experimenting and always gives his fans something new to enjoy. Zahid Ahmed has, over the years, proved himself by giving one amazing performance after another. Zahid Ahmed’s recent hit Visaal showed what an amazing actor he is and that he can also give a comic touch to his characters without going over board. Zahid Ahmed is the kind of actor who always delivers and does not leave his fans disappointed.
Mohsin Abbas Haider
Mohsin Abbas Haider takes acting very seriously which is why each one of his portrayals have been as realistic as possible. He is another actor for whom the performance comes before everything else whether it is glamour or the choice of characters he is playing. He has given some of the most outstanding performances in the recent past which had a captivating affect on the viewers. Mohsin Abbas Haider can easily be termed as the king of expressions since he pays great attention to detail. He also makes sure that he looks the role apart from translating the mannerism of his characters flawlessly on screen.
Madiha Imam
Madiha Imam is an absolute delight to watch on screen since not only is her portrayal of every character she plays perfect but her presence is pleasing to the eyes as well. Although Madiha Imam has not experimented like some of the other actors in this list but she has always given every character her best. Like Sami Khan, she too is one of those few actors who share great on-screen chemistry with all their co-stars. Madiha Imam never fails to impress and makes the viewers look forward to her scenes.
Yumna Zaidi
So young yet so immensely talented and wise as well. Yumna Zaidi is one of those very few good young female actors who choose their projects so carefully. She is well known not only for her natural acting but she is also highly respected by the drama watching audience because almost every drama she has been a part of lately and even in the past has provided quality entertainment. Yumna Zaidi lives and breathes the roles she plays, the fact that these portrayals come naturally to her is always evident from her performances. From Guzarish to Inkaar, the list of the memorable performances given by Yumna Zaidi is long. Yumna Zaidi has surely proven that for her convincing portrayals come before everything else. An actress who refused to let glamour and commercialism be the first priority for her, this list would be incomplete without Yumna Zaidi.
Ramsha Khan
Ramsha Khan is comparatively new in the list of actors that have been mentioned but it is a fact that she really has proved her acting skills in such a short span of time. Ramsha Khan has a strong screen presence and her effortlessness in emoting and acting makes her a very strong actor. Ramsha Khan’s recent dramas Khud Parast and Kaisa Hai Naseeban allowed her to showcase her talent and she was beyond impressive. Ramsha Khan has it in her that she can also do justice to non-commercial dramas and we hope she explores that genre as well.
Shehzad Sheikh
Shehzad Sheikh has been one of those actors who learned the craft on job and that it why we can see a considerable difference in his acting from before. Shehzad Sheikh has definitely remained consistent in his on-screen appearances but he does tend to stick to certain kind of roles. Since Shehzad Sheikh has really started giving brilliant performances, it would be interesting to see him trying different and challenging roles even more.
Do share your views about the actors in the list and don’t forget to add more names.
I am sure A & B Productions house needs absolutely no introduction. It is one of the biggest production houses in the country which has given us many memorable plays. I am sure many of you have noticed that there are some artists who work excessively with this production house and now whenever I see one of these artists’ upcoming plays promo it does not take much for me to guess that this must be a play from A & B Productions. Also, many of the plays from this production house follow more or less the same pattern, they start off on a very interesting note but gradually the story loses focus and it becomes tedious to sit through most of the plays. But one cannot ignore the fact that A & B productions has also given us some very outstanding plays like Qaid-e-Tanhai, Roag, Mein Abdul Qadir Hoon , Aik Nayee Cinderella and many others. Anyway, since this article is about actors who like to work with A & B productions, I am going to talk about actors who have been associated with A & B productions for a very long time and they somehow prefer working with this production house.
Faisal Qureshi:
Faisal Qureshi has worked with Babar Javed a lot even before he started his own production house. He acted in many dramas which were directed by Babar Javed and I think that is why the two have a strong bond and we see Faisal Qureshi in many A & B productions’ plays whether they are serious ones or comedies. The list of A & B dramas he has worked in is almost never-ending but to mention a few; Roag, Qaid-e-Tanhai, Yariyan, Tishnagi, Mera Yakeen, Kis Din Mera Viyah Howega, Sabz Pari laal Kabooter, Jahez, Topi Drama, Ek Hatheli pe Hina Ek Hatheli Pe Lahu, Mera Pehla Pyaar …well like I said the list is never-ending. I think Faisal Qureshi prefers working with one production house more than many because before he started working excessively with A & B productions , he used to work for Evernew Studios a lot.
Faisal Qureshi of course is a very talented actor and a true asset for our industry and A & B Productions has given him some very good characters to play too. His upcoming plays “Adhoori Aurat” and “Virasat” have been produced by A & B too.
Sami Khan:
Sami Khan is another actor who is fast becoming the face of A & B Productions; even right now he is acting in three different dramas produced by A & B Productions namely Teri Rah Mei Rul Gaye, Ghao and Mei Gunahagar Nahi. Previously also he has worked in many A & B projects and has given some very good performances. His next venture “Harjaye” and “Meri Dulari” are from the same production house too.
Saba Qamar:
Saba Qamar may not have worked in as many A & B dramas as Sami Khan and Faisal Qureshi but I have a feeling that she will be seen in A & B productions very often now too. She has been part of many A & B ventures like Jo Chalay Tu Jaan Se Guzar Gaye, Mein Chand Si,Thakan, Kash Aisa Ho. The good thing about Saba Qamar is that she keeps on working with other production houses as well quite often.
Samiya Mumtaz:
Samiya Mumtaz is one of those actresses who are very choosy about their roles and therefore we do not get to see her on-screen often enough. Most of Samiya’s work on television has been with A & B productions and even right now the only drama she is acting in is from A & B productions. It seems like artists who do not work very often too prefer A & B productions over other production houses. What can be the reason for that?
Saba Hameed:
Saba Hameed is very talented but not only is she seen in many A & B productions dramas lately but also seems to be opting for the same kind of roles over and over again even if she is working with some other production house. The list of A & B plays that Saba has worked in is long too, some of them which were very popular are Qaid-e-Tanhai, Mein Abdul Qadir Hoon, Kaala Jadoo, Aks and Ek Naye Cinderella. We will be seeing Saba Hameed in “Meri Dulari” next, which is also a drama by A & B Productions.
Yumna Zaidi:
Yumna Zaidi is another very talented, young, budding artist who started her career with A & B productions and has since then worked in many of their dramas. Her most recent project is with the same production house too. She acted in Thakan, Khushi Aik Roag and now we will see her in “Meri Dulari” very soon, another serial by the same production house.
Savera Nadeem:
I must say that most of the actors who prefer working with A & B productions are very gifted and Savera Nadeem is another name on the list. Savera Nadeem is very selective about her work and that is the reason we don’t see her on-screen very often. For the past few years now we have seen Savera Nadeem working in A & B productions serials more than any other. She worked in Qaid-e-Tanhai, Mera Saeein, Diya Jaley, Mera Yakeen and a few other plays from the same production house and her next project “Virasat” is an A & B productions play too.
There are many other actors who we are seeing in A & B production plays often enough now like Mohib Mirza, Ayza Khan, Aijaz Aslam, Shahood Alvi, Nimra Bucha and Waseem Abbas.A & B productions house is undoubtedly one of the biggest production houses in the country which is working hard day and night to give us good quality dramas. Maybe this could be the reason why these artists prefer working with this production house. Can you think of any actors who prefer working with A & B productions, the faces that instantly make you guess that this must be an A & B production play?
Ohkay so, we; the masoom viewers have been put up with a lot lately so I thought it’s a high time to reciprocate some honest & heartfelt feelings about certain actors who’ve given us a hard time. I have always known that exaggeration is one such thing that will annoy any person therefore I feel before joining showbiz, our respected actors worked really hard & practiced harder; the art of exaggeration that’s why sadly they’ve taken it to a whole new level.
I think it’s about time to dedicate a whole article to the bunch of exagger-actors who love to overdo things that they’re needlessly comfortable in & oh it just hit me that I’ve introduced a new term i-e exagger-actors. Sounds good right? :) I must say recently we’ve seen all the exaggeractors sticking to certain things that made the viewers pull their hair out but unfortunately, every single actor’s so hopelessly & helplessly comfortable in what they’re doing that even after the viewers have given up on them they’re continuously doing what they’re good at. I must say it takes a lot of courage to not budge & be allergic to experimenting. So, there you go:
Mawra Hocane who overdoes crying without glycerin:
Yes, she’s someone who has forgotten that there are some other expressions & emotions that a normal healthy human being is capable of experiencing but seems like by default she’s missing a vein which stirs the expression of smiling on a face therefore all that we see her doing is:
Sami Khan who also overdoes crying with glycerin:
Not sure who wins the crown for being a rotlu of Pakistani drama industry Mawra Hocane or Sami Khan but seems like they decided that she should be a crying queen while he can be a representative of all those men who love to cry, hence he’s a new-found crying-king.
Yumna Zaidi who overdoes expressions:
Ohkay, I must say she’s someone who rolls her eyes at a speed of 10000000 rps (rotations per second) therefore it really gets hard to watch her because she can give you an eye-ache.
Ushna Shah who overdoes asthma:
Looks like the poor girl is suffering from asthma that’s why she frequently runs out of breath while speaking. Can someone please buy her an inhaler so that at least she has enough breath to complete her sentence without shivering?
Maheen Rizvi who overdoes an accent:
Seems like she chucked a handful of walnuts in her mouth, that’s why she has a hard time delivering her dialogues without faking an accent. Can someone make her barf those akhrots out, please?
Mikaal Zulfikar who overdoes glutton-ness:
He’s a guy who’d only smile at a dining table. Who’d be seen hovering around food to sniff it, he’s someone who’d be ecstatic at a sight of an approaching food tray. Yes, he’s someone who’d kill for a piece of ROTIIIIIIII, therefore:
Hareem Farooq who overdoes calcium hydroxide i-e choona on her face:
Yes, I think in the wee years of her life, Casper was the first children’s movie that she saw & ever since she has been so inspired by the character that she feels it’s her duty to become an ambassador of Casper’s fan club in Pakistan.
Ahsan Khan who overdoes unrequited love i-e nakaam ashiqui:
Yes, he’s someone who just doesn’t believe in giving up on love. He’s someone who’s blessed with a misfortune when it comes to love but he keeps on trying again & again & again & again till the word again doesn’t want to appear again.
Adnan Siddique who overdoes midlife crisis:
I know the cat’s out of the bag already as Adnan Siddique’s guilty of working opposite the youngest of all female co-actors & then we do get to see him getting a bit too cordial with them unnecessarily. The latest flick was with Mawra where he felt an apple would taste good if he looks at her while eating it, ahem!!!
Saba Qamar who overdoes the usage of her nostrils:
Yes, even though she’s a great actor, I feel she relies a lot on her nostrils to express herself. I wish she puts her nose to rest & starts using other facial features for expressions. I am sure she’ll be surprised herself.
So, there you have it. My list of exagger-actors who need to either stop what they’re doing or should experiment to sustain in the industry without making their fans too bored with their typicality. Share who do you feel is an exaggeractor & who’s too scared of experimenting. :) Share your thoughts on this please.
With the craze of Pakistani Dramas that has grown over the years, the viewers have made a lot of actors a household name. When the viewers put so much of effort in following the actors and their work, they expect those actors to respond back in the same manner by fulfilling the expectations that their fans and followers have with them. Most of the times, it is the actors’ name that attracts the viewership because the fans who are on a look out for their favorite actors’ work deem it as an opportunity to see them on screen.
With the influx of so many dramas, the quality has been compromised upon a lot and that is why, we see our favorite actors working in substandard dramas, which results in a huge disappointment. This is related to those actors who have a huge fan following and are expected to outshine every single time they grace the screen with their presence.
Then comes the category of those actors who have been a part of the industry for a very long time but haven’t been able to leave a mark because of their substandard acting and with them being a part of the drama makes the viewers hard to connect to the characters and their stories.
So, here’s an alphabetically ordered list dedicated to those actors who need to up their game. Some of the actors need to up their game in terms of drama choices that they make and some need to do that in the overall acting and performance that they do because they have been a part of the industry for a considerable amount of time now and its a high time that they improve.
Aisha Khan
Mann Mayal was the worst choice made by Aisha Khan this year. Apart from that she was part of some of the most disastrous dramas like Shert and Tumhare Siwa last year as well. She has upped her game by choosing scripts this year which have more to offer but unfortunately Aisha Khan’s heavy reliance on make-up kills the impact which her brilliant performances can have on the viewers. In the drama Khuda Mera Bhi Hai she plays a different role but her heavy make-up stands out like a sore thumb every time. Aisha Khan can easily up her game right now by letting go of the dependency on make-up and styling especially because now she is part of dramas which have more room for performance. A character actor can never be successful if he or she is not comfortable in their own skin. We hope to see Aisha Khan looking more “real” in her dramas in the future.
Armeena Rana Khan
Armeena Rana Khan is not seen on the small screen very often but she has some very notable projects to her credit; lately she played leading roles in Bin Roye, the film and the drama and also played the lead in the film Janaan. When an actress is part of such big projects the viewers expect the best from her. Armeena Rana Khan’s dialogue delivery and expressions both are misleading to say the least, she needs to work extra hard on her acting as a whole. Also, most of the times Armeena Rana’s over glamorous and cakey make-up is more distracting than appealing. Armeena Rana Khan needs to up her game both in the acting and the looks department. She is already a part of some big projects therefore she is making the right choices but viewers will stop tuning into her dramas if she does not put in the effort needed to make some serious changes in her acting style and decides to let go of glamour.
Hamza Ali Abbasi
Hamza Ali Abbasi’s comeback after Pyare Afzal is the reason why he is in this list. An actor who chooses to do only one drama a year and one who has a huge fan following should be a little more responsible while choosing the projects he works in. Also, Hamza Ali Abbasi’s statement about his film “Jawani Phir Nahi Aani” went to show that he isn’t sure what he wants to do. He needs to think about pros and cons before choosing a certain project so that his heart is in that project. Even in Mann Mayal Hamza Ali Abbasi with his ever-present frown lines looked confused most of the times which suggested that he wasn’t enjoying playing this role.
Hareem Farooq
Hareem Farooq has earned herself a lot of fame in such a short span of time but looks like she struggles a lot when it comes to drama choices. The only good choice that Hareem made was by playing the role of Arjumand in Diyar-e-Dil but apart from that, Hareem chose to be a part of the dramas with the multiple wife themes like Dil-e-Beqarar and Dusri Biwi. In drama serial Sanam, Hareem did try to experiment but unfortunately, her character couldn’t make an impact as much as it should have due to poor writing and direction. Hareem Farooq definitely needs to up her game in terms of drama choices because at this stage, she has a lot of fans who look forward to her work.
Maya Ali
Maya Ali started her career as a supporting actress but in a very short span of time, because of her acting and confidence, she came into the forefront and started playing the main leads in almost every other drama. Maya has quite a few amazing dramas to her credit which made her a household name and she became someone who could sell a drama only with the attachment of her name to it, but due to her recent disastrous choices, she looked eligible to be made a part of this list as well. After a blockbuster drama like Diyar-e-Dil last year, Maya’s fans were eagerly looking forward to Mann Mayal because they thought Maya will blow them away once again with her phenomenal performance, but to add to their woes, it wasn’t the case. Maya is also seen in Sanam these days and it also happens to be a disaster. Even though Maya is a very fine actor, she needs to up her game by being more careful in choosing her projects because right now she has given two flops back to back, which are definitely going to affect her track record. Both these dramas got a recognition because of the fans of the cast but that most certainly doesn’t mean these dramas were successful. Maya also needs to up her game in the emotional scenes because that seems to be the only weak point of her acting.
Saboor Ali
Saboor Ali was part of many dramas this year but none of her performances were up to the mark. Saboor Ali’s biggest flaw is that she tends to overact which makes it look like she is trying too hard. Saboor Ali is a confident actress who should try looking more natural on screen by wearing less make-up and by being more subtle in her performances. Also, she should choose projects which have more room for performance. In Beqasoor and Bhai she was constantly crying, In Teri Chah Mein and Waada she is seen plotting and planning. Saboor Ali’s characters usually lie on the extremes just like her acting skills. She needs to choose better projects, work on her acting skills and wear less make-up.
Sajjal Ali
At such a tender age, Sajjal Ali has garnered a lot of name and fame for herself but sadly, that doesn’t reflect in the choices that she makes when it comes to the dramas. Sajjal Ali is effortless when it comes to acting, but unfortunately, she chooses to get typecast in almost every single drama. There was a time when seeing Sajjal Ali in a promo of a drama sealed the deal that it is going to be a story of a grieving girl as Sajjal stopped experimenting and was offering the same performances to her fans again and again. In the drama Gul e Rana, people expected to see something new from Sajjal but, despite promoting it as a story of a strong girl, Sajjal ended up looking like a bechari who had no way out of her problems. Sajjal Ali has a huge fan following and it definitely calls for experimenting to make her fans happy. Considering how effortless Sajjal is when it comes to acting, she should try her hands on comedy, it will be a refreshing change for the viewers and for herself too.
Sharmeen Kashif
Sharmeen Kashif has just joined the Pakistani drama industry and has bagged quite a few supporting roles in a lot of popular dramas mostly of Hum TV. Since a lot of casting directors seem to be hiring Sharmeen for the portrayal of supporting characters, she most certainly needs to work on her dialogue delivery because it not only seems flat but it also makes her look like she is putting in a lot of effort when it comes to acting. Sharmeen’s acting makes it hard to say that she is a good addition to the drama industry and since she is getting a lot of work, it is highly required for her to up her game in terms of acting.
Ushna Shah
Ushan has been a part of so many projects but as much as her choices have been unimpressive, so has been her acting as well. Ushna Shah really needs to improve on her acting because in every single drama and in every single scene, it looks like Ushna is about to have an asthma attack. Ushna was recently seen in Geo TV’s Thora Sa Aasman and without even looking at the promos and before the introduction of her character, it was evident that she was going to play the role of a home-wrecker. Ushna has been a part of the industry for quite some while now, so if she plans on pursuing her acting career, she should consider taking acting classes for her better future as an actor.
So, here’s the list of all those actors who in our opinion need to up their game, in terms of acting or in terms of drama choices. Please feel free to add more names to the list and share your thoughts about the article.
Pakistani drama industry is gifted with actors who are multi-talented. Some of these actors can easily be termed as gurus in their fields but not all of them are very eager to change their looks. Many of them have not even altered their hairstyles in years and even when they do experiment with their looks a little it is almost as if they are scared of going that extra mile to change their looks altogether. They look great nevertheless and some of them are very “well-preserved” but it will be refreshing to watch them experimenting with their looks every now and then if not very often since experimenting and being creative is an essential part of any field of art.
All of these actors are good-looking people who are exceptionally confident about their looks but the looks which they have sported for many years also prove that they would much rather play it safe than change their looks to give the characters they play a certain degree of uniqueness which can be identified with every character that they have played in their career. All these actors have signature looks that remain constant no matter what kind of a character they are playing because of which most of the times they end up looking like they walked from one shooting set to another and their characters can not be differentiated because of the monotony of their looks. There are many different ways in which an actor can alter their looks but so far these actors have not ventured into anything drastic which would have taken their fans by surprise.
Here is a list of those actors who definitely need to and should experiment with their looks:
Hamayun Saeed
Yes! Hamayun Saeed is most certainly one of those actors who are very “well-preserved” but he also falls in the category of those performers who have sported the same look for years. Hamayun Saeed made his comeback with drama serial Dil Lagi after a long time but even then his look in the play was pretty much the same as the one he sported many years back. Apart from the fact that Mohid was very “desi”, there was no drastic change in Hamayun Saeed’s look although this was the perfect time to come up with something brand new. In Bin Roye Hamayun Saeed has grown a beard but there is no drastic change in his hairstyle or overall look.
Imran Abbas
The only time Imran Abbas experimented with his looks was in drama serial Akbari Asghari, other than that he always has the same boyish looks, his hairstyle never changes, he always sports a stubble and his overall appearance including his makeup remains the same. It is impossible to tell which drama a screen shot has been taken from because his looks are all the same despite the nature of his characters, although in drama serial Mera Naam Yousuf Hai in particular and even in Khuda Aur Mohabbat there was definitely a lot of room for experimenting for him.
Ayeza Khan
Ayeza Khan is definitely one of those actresses who need to change their overall look because ever since she has stepped into the industry, she has had the same hairstyle and her dressing is the same irrespective of the roles she plays. Another reason for this is that most often Ayeza Khan is seen playing similar roles. She has a signature look which suits the seedhi sadhi larki she is seen playing in dramas most of the times. The promos and BTS pictures of her upcoming play Shehrnaz suggest that Ayeza Khan might finally have decided to experiment with her looks, we are waiting to see what she has in store for her viewers.
Zahid Ahmed
Zahid Ahmed is a phenomenal actor but sadly, that can’t be said about his styling skills as he is stuck with a same look ever since he has stepped in the drama industry. Zahid Ahmed does change his clothing but his overall hair-styling & beard pretty much tells that while going to the shoot of another drama, he stopped on his way to home to change his clothes because other than that, you never see him in a different avatar. Zahid Ahmed is lucky to have great acting skills which pretty much keep the viewers attention hooked to him, but he most certainly needs a new stylist who can experiment with his looks & gives him a makeover.
Noor Hassan
If you refer to the screenshots below, you will assume that these were taken from a single scene of a single drama but to surprise you all, that is not the case actually. If there was an award dedicated to looking consistently boring on-screen, Noor Hassan will bag it hands down because Noor Hassan is one such actor who takes pride in looking boringly monotonous on screen. The same hairstyle, same skin-fit T-shirts & same expressions, it looks like Noor Hassan is frozen in time & due to which the gel on his hair froze eternally too. For a little part in the drama serial Aabro, Noor Hassan looked different because that was the demand of his character where he had to showcase a time lapse & he actually pulled that look off gracefully, so I think Noor Hassan definitely needs to change his looks & experiment a lot more!
Mikaal Zulfqar
Mikaal Zulfiqar has come a long way when it comes to acting, but sadly, he is still stuck in a rut when it comes to his overall styling. Mikaal Zulfiqar has been sporting he same look ever since he has stepped in the Pakistani drama industry. I don’t remember any such project in which Mikaal’s hair weren’t partitioned differently or his hair-color wasn’t brown. Mikaal Zulfiqar has one of those faces which can pretty much carry any sort of styling but Mikaal has become a little too comfortable with the idea of the same styling that he just doesn’t experiment at all which is definitely needed.
Sana Javed
Sana Javed has a very pretty face and she would look great in anything at all yet she also is one of those actresses who are stuck with the same look. Sana Javed does not even change the way she partitions her hair let alone experiment with something which will give each character she plays a different look. Sana Javed hasn’t played a lot of glamorous roles in her career. Her characters in Pyare Afzal, Goya, Mera Pehla Pyar, Ranjish Hi Sahi, Mana Ka Gharana, Zara Yaad Kar and almost all the dramas she has ever starred in had the exact same look which make her look monotonous & boring on screen.
Aijaz Aslam
I still remember Aijaz Aslam from his very first drama serial Kashkol and ever since then this man has not experimented with his look at all. He is also one of those many actors in this list who take good care of themselves and have managed to stay young but watching him in the same get up for the past so many years has been quite monotonous. It would be nice to see some variation in his look because till date he has only grown in & out of beard in all his dramas but his hairstyle always stays the same!
Adnan Siddique
Adnan Siddique is one of those actors who has aged gracefully, but that does not mean that he has to stick to the silver locks all the time. Adnan Siddique ends up choosing those dramas in which he is paired opposite the actresses who’re half his age, so where his character requires him to look a little young, his monotonous look, hair-color & hairstyle screams the opposite. I actually can not remember a drama in which Adnan Siddique wowed the viewers with a change in his styling & appearance. I think it’s about time that Adnan Siddque does something especially with the hair because that will not only make him look vibrant & different but will make him look less lethargic too.
Hareem Farooq
Hareem Farooq has lost weight but she is not very open to any radical changes in her overall look. In all her drama serials whether it was Mausam, Mere Humdum Mere Dost and now Sanam, she has the same hairstyle and her make-up has always been unimpressive. Even in her brief appearance in the film Janaan, she sported the same look. There were a few pictures in which for a very brief period Hareem Farooq changed her hair color but later on she was seen in the same old look in drama serial Sanam.
Emaad Irfani
Being a model, it is definitely expected from Emaad Irfani to change his looks because he has seen himself in different get ups so he knows which looks he can sport but ever since he has started taking his acting career seriously, he has stopped experimenting with his looks completely. Emaad Irfani most certainly has become comfortable with a single look which includes uncombed curly messy hair & a neatly done stubble, which actually makes him look boring on screen. Emaad Irfani definitely is improving as an actor but at this stage I think to make his presence felt in the dramas, he should work harder on his looks which will actually earn him some attention of the viewers.
Mansha Pasha
Mansha Pasha experimented with her looks a little just once when she was playing Romaissa’s bubbly sister in drama serial Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hai. Other than that even after being part of so many dramas and being attached to the entertainment industry for a few years now Mansha Pasha has retained the same looks in all her dramas which pretty much revolve around curled or straightened hair. Mansha Pasha definitely needs a makeover & she should change her makeup artist too. It would be nice to see her trying out different looks because most of the times it ends up looking like she came straight from her home to the shooting set & started acting, without paying much attention to how she will look on camera.
Farhan Saeed
Farhan Saeed has an undeniable screen presence which has won him many fans but does he experiment with his looks? Most certainly not! In drama serial Udaari, Farhan Saeed sported a pony tail for a short period of time but there was no major change in his look although there was a lot of room for experimentation. In all his other dramas too Farhan Saeed usually goes with the perfect hair and a very neat look overall irrespective of the role he is playing. This basically goes to show that he is also one of those actors who like to play it safe. The only changes one can see is in the height of the puff that he sports on his head, which actually makes it look like he is heavily inspired from the infamous Johnny Bravo!
Junaid Khan
I don’t remember a drama when the puff on Junaid’s head faltered giving him a different look. If there is one such actor who can give Noor Hassan a run for his money in terms of monotony, it is Junaid Khan. The most effort the viewers will see him make would be shaving his stubble off but other than that, everything stays the same starting from his puffy hair to the smile which he relies on a lot, even in the scenes where he is may be mourning a death of a character. It looks like Junaid Khan is quite satisfied with his boring look & loves flaunting his stiffness, be it in terms of his hairstyle, his expressions or his body language.
So, with this, we conclude out list. Would you like to see all these actors mentioned above experimenting with their looks? Do you think it is important for an actor to alter their looks completely to give every character they play a unique outlook & make their performances a little more impactful? Do share your thoughts about the subject and don’t forget to add more names to the list.
Dramas are offered to actors everyday, sometimes they take up a project, sometimes they don’t. Once a project that they missed goes on to become a hit, they secretly regret saying no. In the following, we cover some such classic roles and actors who refused them for various reasons
1- Faisal Qureshi as Asher
Yes,the role made immortal by Fawad Afzal Khan was initially offered to Faisal Qureshi. However, he felt that there was nothing much to do in the role and refused it. The role went to Fawad Afzal Khan who grabbed it and the rest they say is history. It’s difficult to imagine the chemistry of anyone but Fawad-Mahira in Humsafar but who knows what sparks could have flied if Faisal was seen romancing Mahira.
2- Mahira Khan as Kiran
Mahira was offered two projects of Umera post Humsafar, one was Shehr-e-Zaat and the other was Kankar. Mahira consulted Momina Duraid who had earlier convinced her to do Humsafar and decided in favour of Shehr-e-Zaat. She felt that Shehr-e-Zaat would elevate her as an actress much more than Kankar would and ratings and popularity wise it would be safe to assume that Mahira was right. Her replacement Sanam Baloch is doing good work but the drama is not as strong/popular as Shehr-e-Zaat.
3- Fawad Khan and Sanam Baloch as Irtiza and Saman
In the classic romantic story Bin Roye Ansoo earlier Fawad and Sanam were approached to essay the roles of Irtiza and Saman in this Farhat Ishtiaq drama. However, due to dates and other issues, both actors couldn’t do the serial. They were later replaced by Humayun Saeed and Armeena Rana Khan. Die hard fans of Fawad are extremely disappointed with the current casting and feel that it would ruin the serial. Rest would only be revealed once the drama starts airing. Maybe Humayun and Armeena will be accepted as Irtiza and Saman.
4- Fawad Khan as Ibaad Uzair (Aabi)
This was Farhat Ishtiaq’s second drama after the phenomenal Humsafar. It could not, however, gain the same popularity as its predecessor. Besides other reasons, casting of Adeel Hussain as Aabi was considered one of the reasons of drama not getting as much popularity as Humsafar. Fawad Khan was to play this role but he could not get the visa at the right time and resultantly Adeel Hussain stepped in.
5- Faisal Qureshi as Waqar Ul Hassan
The role of Aiman’s father Waqar Ul Hassan in Zard Mausam was initially offered to Faisal Qureshi who refused once again on the pretext that the role was not powerful enough. The role went to Faisal Rehman but the drama never got much popularity.
6- Mehwish Hayat as Mehru
Mehwish Hayat was approached to play Mehru in Hum TV’s ‘Na Kaho Tum Mere Nahi’ but since she was busy in Mirat-Ul-Uroos and other projects she declined the offer. This is despite that fact that her last serial with Hum TV ‘Meray Qatil Mere Dildar’ proved to a hit and provided her with much needed boost for her career. Saba Qamar stepped into Mehwish’s shoes at the last minute and played the character beautifully.
7- Zaini of Man-o-salwa and Khadeeja of Lahasil
Resham and Angeline Malik were not the first choices for lead roles of Man-o-salwa and Lahasil. However, since all other actresses approached for these roles refused point blankly, Resham and Angeline came in. The exact reasons for other actresses refusing these roles remain unknown. Casting remains one of the main reasons of criticism on these dramas.
Besides the roles mentioned above Fawad was not the first choice for Ashk either. He came in once Sarmad Khoosat took over as the director of the play.
When it comes to bringing life to the characters, it is pivotal for the actors to give their characters the right treatment to make them look different & also to make the viewers feel that they are watching someone & something new on their television screens. Experimenting with looks is a very important part of an actor’s job because it defines their vision, attention to detail & maturity as a performer. When the actors experiment with their looks, it depicts that for them, their comfort zones don’t matter much, but what matters the most is how their characters are translated on screen which makes them look versatile.
Experimenting is something that helps the viewers in forming a connection with the new characters as it allows them to move on from the past performances of the actors. When the viewers get to see an actor in a new avatar, they find it easy to put the past to rest & look forward to what an actor has to offer in the new project because if the actors doesn’t change their overall look, it feels that the walked from one shooting set to another.
We have a list of those brilliant actors who are always seen experimenting with their looks & succeed in looking different in most of their dramas.
Bushra Ansari:
Bushra Ansari is an all rounder who can portray any character assigned to her on screen effortlessly. Even with so much experience Bushra Ansari is very conscious about her look in dramas. In drama serial Bilquees Kaur she had a look completely different from her look in drama serial Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley because the characters she was playing in these dramas were poles apart. Similarly right now she is part of two dramas, Jhoot and Udaari and in both these dramas her outlook matches the characters that she is playing. Bushra Ansari also shared how much homework she did to make Sheedan of Udaari look completely different so that the viewers could easily see her as Sheedan and not as Bushra Ansari. It is truly impressive that even an actress of her caliber feels that she needs to put in extra effort in order to make her roles look diverse.
When it comes to being associated with the showbiz, it is imperative that those who’re in this industry have to have a strong connection with the glamour because most of the times, it is the demand of the camera & also, it turns out to be a comfort zone of the people who face camera every single day of their lives. Being glamorous is a part of the showbiz industry but when it comes to our dramas, quite often we see such characters that do not require being glamorous at all because we have a vast range of characters that our actors end up playing, which depict Pakistani women from all the walks of life & from all the age brackets.
Most of the times, the characters that are showed on screen end up looking far from reality because the actors that are playing those roles chose to give them the treatment that do not sit well with the viewers due to them being overly glamorous because it suddenly takes away the factor of naturalness & reality from character. It somehow also depicts the insecurity of the actor playing such a character who might not be a bit too comfortable in their own skin but fortunately, we have a handful of very talented actresses who not only own their skin, who not only own their real-self in front of the camera, but also own their characters because of the realistic treatment they give to them which is far from being glamorous & this happens to be the reason why people end up falling in love with the characters that they play & also get impressed with their vision & maturity as actors.
There are quite a few actresses who have made sure to keep their looks as simple, realistic & natural as possible, because for them, it is the acting that matters. Here’s a list of those amazingly talented actresses in no particular order:
Samiya Mumtaz:
Samiya Mumtaz, one of the finest actors of our industry, is a character actor, which is why we never see her giving such a treatment to her appearance that wouldn’t match the nature of the characters that she plays. Samiya Mumtaz makes sure to keep things as closer to reality as possible, that is why, in stead of getting distracted by her appearance or looks, viewers feel connected to her characters immediately because of her acting as Samiya’s entire focus is on her performance & is not on glam-ming herself up, which most of the time wouldn’t gel well with the characters that she plays, like that of Saba in Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishaan, Rasheeda in Sadqay Tumhare & Sajida in Udaari.
Mahira Khan:
Mahira Khan is very selective about the projects she chooses to be in because she takes her work very seriously. Her looks in dramas like Hamsafar, Shehr-e-Zaat and Sadqay Tumhare were completely in line with the roles she was playing and the situations her character was in. When there is no need for make-up Mahira Khan is A-okay with minimal styling and make-up whether she is working in a drama or a film.
Sanam Baloch:
Sanam Baloch, is another one of those very few young actresses who focus more on the acting & don’t put much energy into looking glamorous all the time. Sanam Baloch’s effortlessness in both acting & her appearance is what made her such a strong actress. Sanam has played a lot such characters which demanded a no-makeup look & she flaunted her natural beauty with her raw face, with a lot of confidence because Sanam Baloch knows that by the end of the day, it is the acting that makes a mark & leaves an impact.
Samina Peerzada:
A veteran actor who is well aware of the the beauty that she embodies, that is why we saw her confident in her own skin in dramas like Durr-e-Shehwaar & Shehr-e-Zaat where the demand of her character didn’t allow her to have a speck of makeup on her face & Samina Peerzada owned those characters because of the way she kept things natural. Samina Peerzada can be quite experimental with her looks but she is also one of those actresses who don’t mind sporting a natural look as far as they compliment the character that she is playing.
Maya Ali:
Even though Maya Ali can sport a glamorous look in photoshoots & award functions, but when it comes to dramas, Maya’s no make-up look in a lot of her projects has helped the viewers connect to the roles that she plays immediately. She is more than okay and comfortable in a neatly tied braid and only enough make-up which is needed to meet the needs of the camera and the scene.
Sanam Saeed:
Sanam Saeed happens to be one of those few young actresses who rely solely on their acting in the dramas & don’t really put much thought into the glam side of their job. As far as photo-shoots & the modelling side of the spectrum is concerned, Sanam Saeed has proved that she can carry versatile & dolled up looks too but when it comes to dramas & acting, she makes sure to keep her outlook as natural & as simple as possible, in order to depict a character of any regular Pakistani girl flawlessly. If we take a closer look at her work in Daam, Mata-e-Jaan, Mera Naseeb, Firaaq or Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Sanam Saeed has followed the same pattern of keeping her character looking as natural & as simple as possible, which showcases her focus & confidence in her acting more than the superficial appearance.
Ayeza Khan:
Ayeza Khan glams up for award shows and functions but when a character she is playing on screen does not allow her to wear too much make-up she is perfectly alright with it. Her no make-up look and barely any styling in drama serial Adhoori Aurat went to show that she feels very comfortable in her own skin!
Sajal Ali:
Sajal Ali is another actress who is hardly ever seen wearing too much make-up. She knows how to keep it natural by wearing nude shades of eye make-up and very thin liner which accentuates her eyes but does not stand out because she plays the roles of a young girl most of the times, so she makes sure to give her character the right treatment which sync well with the age of the character that she is trying to portray.
Sania Saeed:
Sania Saeed, an actor with a lot of experience, knows exactly how the camera perceives her face, that is why Sania makes sure to give her character the treatment that it deserves. Where we saw her all dolled up as Bari Sarkar in Aseerzadi, we are now getting to see her as a simple Pukhtoon housewife in Sang e Marmar & the treatment she has given to both these characters is completely different & shows her command over her work & her experience as an actor. In the initial stages of her career, Sania Saeed barely wore any makeup because she was confident about herself as an actor.
Arij Fatyma:
Arij Fatyma is blessed with a very cute face and tons of confidence! She knows when to glam up for her role and when to keep it natural. Using the right kind of foundation and applying only enough make-up which suits the role is a trick Arij Fatyma is well aware of. The character of Bareera in Aik Pal goes through a complete transformation, where from being a very modern girl always clad in makeup she turns into someone who chooses an entirely different path in her life & both these phases were perfectly portrayed by Arij Fatyma.
Syra Yousuf:
The only time Syra Yousuf wore slightly more make-up on screen was in drama serial Mera Naseeb even in that play when her character was going through tough times her look completely changed. Syra Yousuf isn’t seen wearing a lot of make-up even in award functions. The natural look suits her and she knows it!
So, here’s the list of all these actresses who according to us keep their looks as natural as possible & give their characters a very realistic feel with a realistic portrayal to add more depth in their performances. Please do let us know your thoughts & feel free to add more names to the list.
As we all know that today was a sad day for the fans of Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain, Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain has sadly left this temporary world for his eternal abode, today. The news was sad, unexpected and unfortunate. Even the actors and people who had differences with him had shown up and posted about his sudden and shocking demise. They were sad and they conveyed their deep sorrow through comments and tweets.

Fahad Mustafa, Mahira Khan, Humayun Saeed, Saba Qamar, Adnan Siddiqui, Aijaz Aslam, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Mehwish Hayat, Imran Abbas, Imran Ashraf and Nauman Ijaz posted nothing about Dr Aamir Liaquat’s death who was a big name of industry and also popular internationally. Mishi Khan also didn’t post anything about the actor who was indulged into banters with him. According to our team, all the posts of the actors till 11 pm didn’t show anything about the host, sadly. There was no mourning post rather they all were actively posting about their projects. Fahad and Mahira were keen to promote Quaid E Azam Zindabad. Humayun Saeed was interested in the poster launch of London Nahi Jaunga. Saba Qamar was interested in Kamli, Ahsan and Mikaal were interested in Fraud. Apart from that Aijaz Aslam, Adnan Siddiqui were busy in their activities and many other actors also kept quiet and didn’t post a single tweet. Here are the actors who didn’t post anything on Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s death.
Have a look at what they had been posting all day long.
Do let us know if we have missed any names who are still quiet on the demise of the popular host.
Aristotle said that the secret to moving the passions in others is to be moved oneself, that is the basic idea behind method acting. Method acting is described as a form of acting where the actor mystically ‘becomes’ the character or tries to somehow literally live the character in life it demands the actors to use their imagination, senses and emotions to conceive of characters with unique and original behavior, creating performances grounded in the human truth of the moment. it mobilizes actor’s conscious thought and will in order to activate other, less-controllable psychological processes—such as emotional experience and subconscious behavior—sympathetically and indirectly. The actor searches for inner motives to justify action and the definition of what the character seeks to achieve at any given moment.
The end result is that the actor ceases to exist and becomes the character he’s playing that is acting at it’s best, listed below are the top ten method actors of Pakistani entertainment industry who if asked us to believe that they were “BATMAN” we might.
10: Gohar Rasheed
Theater, Drama or Film, Gohar has done it all. The highlight of his career was being nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the movie Seedlings at 2012 New York Film Festival. Since then be it his “Sir, I from village” kinda role in Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi or a gambler/abusive husband from Mann Mayal we have seen him grow and we’ve cherished every moment of it. Here’s to looking at you Gohar, make us proud.
9: Zahid Ahmed
Be it the theater or our home screens Zahid is a force to be reckoned with, with that voice quality and nonchalance I can vouch for him to be the next 007, his commitment to his roles is so strong that “The name’s Bond, James Bond” can seem like a believable statement. The man already has performances like Alvida, Zara Yaad Kar, Jugnoo and Besharam to his credits and there’s certainly much more to come. Anxiously waiting to see him work his magic in Daldal.
8: Mohsin Abbas Haider
This tall dark and handsome punjabi munda is a complete package, from his soulful voice to eccentric raps and his acting skills he is a delight. We have not seen enough of him yet but what we have seen is enough to put him on our “Sarpharaz dhoka nahi dia” list. We can count on him to not disappoint us in the future either.
7: Hamza Ali Abbasi
Not Ali but “Controversy” is his middle name which takes a toll on him ergo we do not get to see enough of him on screen. My first Hamza drama serial was Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley and I HATED him which is what he set to achieve since his role was a despicable one. Like Johnny Depp, Hamza is guilty of making dumb choices like Mann Mayal and Jawani Phr Nahi Ani I sincerely hope to see some Pyare Afzal level performance from him soon.
6: Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui
Like Hamza Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley was my first Sheheryar drama serial too. Despite the fact that Sheheryar’s character was deaf and mute his performance spoke volumes and the message was loud and clear “I am the next big thing”. After that supportive roles like Osama from Zindgi Gulzaar Hai to Ho Mann Jahan he has stayed true to his message and by the looks of it will continue to do so.
5: Aijaz Aslam
Our love for Aijaz is as old as it gets, from Mehndi to Main Aur Tum and even his Chaudary Nazakat Gee CNG days he has stayed true to his chocolaty hero persona but amidst all that we got to see TV series like Yaariyan, Daam, Parchaiyan, Baandi and Dil Ishq off and on to prove that Aijaz can not only do it but ace it.
4: Ahsan Khan
Ahsan recently made everyone lose their chill with his breathtakingly gorgeous display of a rather ugly character like Paa Imtiaz, before that we’ve seen him in a list of shows longer than Ahsan himself, among those I particularly liked him in Paani Jaisa Pyaar and Dastaan, Though he is commendable in all his performances.
3: Fahad Mustafa
The man single-handedly handled a show like Main Abdul Qadir Hoon that alone is enough to keep him in this list yet that’s not the end of it, he has shows like Mera Saeen, Kankar, Maaye Ni, Sandal and Pul Sirrat to his credits and I simply can not wait to see him in Mah-e Meer.
2: Faisal Qureshi
Faisal Qureshi has some Bollywood Khans level reputation in our industry which is only fair given how long he has been here. I can still hear him say “Boota from Toba Tek Singh” and I remember him pulling off that lungi look though I was only 6 at the time. From his eccentric humor in Mein Aur Tum to his roles in Qaid e Tanhai the man has lived his entire life on screen and I certainly wish to see him back on the big screen soon.
1: Nouman ijaz
Hands down ain’t no way anyone else can be the King of this list while this man lives, He is the fearsome Malik Wajaahat from Mera Saeen and he is the Dar Jee from Sang e Mar Mar. Bari Apa, Rehaai, Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi, Khan, Lahasil, Jackson Heights are just constant reminders why this man tops this list. His graceful transition from lead roles to playing lead role’s father makes me respect him even more.
This will be all for now, if you believe someone belongs or doesn’t belong in this list do let us know in the comments section.
Well, honestly speaking I am not sure if they are victims out of their own free will or it is just that they are offered to play the same kind of roles. I am sure many of you already know what typecasting is but those of you who may not have a clear idea, let me explain it to you. Typecasting means to cast an actor continuously in more or less the same kind of role, either because of his physical appearance or previous success in such roles. Pakistani drama industry is blessed with some enormously talented actors who have proven time and again that they are very versatile and can easily portray any character with precision but for some reason we see many of these actors performing similar kind of roles and that just becomes monotonous and is not exactly fair with them. Here is a list of some actors who have lately been seen performing similar kind of roles and I would really appreciate it if we could see them in different roles.
1. Saba Hameed:
I am sure all of you will agree with me that this gifted actress is as capable of playing a positive role as she is of portraying a negative character on screen. But, lately starting from Qaid-e-Tanhai to Aik Naye Cinderella she has been playing the evil or not so good mother. Sometimes it seems like Saba Hameed just walked out from one set to the other and it becomes a little difficult to relate to her characters. There are many other actresses who play the mother too like Shamim Hilali for instance but the roles are different; In Maat she was a down to earth mother and in Uraan she was completely different.
2. Ayza Khan:
I am a devoted fan of Ayza Khan because she is one of those rare actresses who nail all their characters right from the beginning of their career. She played the rebellious daughter in Larkiyan Mohallay Ki, then in Zard Mausam and now in Aks. All these characters leave no room for versatility and show her in the same light. Although in Mi Raqsam Ayza Khan plays a girl married to a man much older than her but I really feel that she has much more potential and should be given roles that put her acting skills to test.
3. Mikaal Zulfiqar:
I watched Shehr e Zaat and Talafi too but to me Mikaal is somehow still Mansoor from Durr e Shehwar, now why is that? I think because that character was completely different from what he seems to be doing usually. He plays the insincere man who cheats on his wife in every second play, be it Shehr e Zaat, Talafi or Manjali. He is another actor who has so much more to offer. I would say that casting him in such roles only is a sheer waste of good talent.
4. Mehreen Raheel:
Mehreen Raheel played the girl who had to share her man with another woman in Mastana Mahi, hopelessly loved a man who did not love her in Dastaan and now she is the other woman in Ashk. It seems like her role in Zindagi Gulzar hai will be the same too. Quite interestingly in all the plays that I mentioned above, except for Mastana Mahi, the love of her life was Fawad Khan!
5. Nimra Bucha:
Nimra Bucha is one of those endowed artists who were born to perform but this talented actress has been a victim of typecasting more than anyone else. She played the sister who could not find a suitable spouse in Daam and after that all her on-screen marriages have been troublesome. Mera Yakeen, Sabz Pari Laal Kabooter and Baandi, in all these plays she plays the victim; a very docile patient woman who has to put up with a great deal. Sometimes I feel like I know her expressions by heart. And the reason for that is not that she cannot perform any better but that is the demand of the characters she plays.
How do you feel about typecasting? Do you enjoy watching your favorite actors playing the same kind of roles or do you want to see them in different roles? I must give credit to many actors like Faisal Qureshi, Faisal Rehman, Mohammad Qavi Khan, Sajjal, Savera Nadeem, Sarwat Gillani, Mohib Mirza, Alishba Yusuf and the list is long (add to it please), who believe in versatility.
Acting is just as much about talent as it is about looks. If you have the good looks to go with great acting then it can be a lethal combination. Talent of course comes before looks. If someone looks very pretty on screen but cannot act, they will never make it to the top or may not even make it very far. We have quite a few examples of actors in the industry who are good looking but they cannot act very well. This article is about those actors who are very talented but also equally conscious about their looks; they have always put in extra effort to look good no matter what role they are playing. There are some scenes that demand less make up and sometimes it seems very strange that these actors still wear a lot of make up even in those scenes. Other than that, the make up and the accessories can sometimes be very distracting. There are many other actors for whom looks do not matter at all and they have the confidence to come with barely any make up on screen if that is what a particular scene or drama demands. Here is a list of actors who I think find it very difficult to come on screen without a lot of grooming.
Ayesha Khan:
Ayesha Khan has talent, I am not denying that but ever since she entered the industry she has been very conscious about her looks. Even when playing characters which are not glamorous at all for example like the one she played in “Paarsa”, she still wears a lot of make up all the time. Her character maybe going through the worst time but the make up will not be mellowed down.
Sarwat Gillani:
Sarwat Gillani is another very gifted artist who is very versatile; we always get to see her in different roles in different plays. When Sarwat started her career, she was least bothered about her looks and most often we saw her with barely any make up on screen, so much so that she was even comfortable with her non blow dried hair. But lately Sarwat Gillani has been very conscious about her looks. The change in her looks started by the serial Mata-e-Jaan and ever since that I have never seen her without make up except for only one scene in Mata-e-Jaan. Not to mention that the curly hair look seems to be ancient history now. I remember even when the naani passes away in the play Mata-e-Jaan and everyone is in the hospital, Haniya (Sarwat Gillani) wears a lot of jewelry and make up.
Mahnoor Baloch:
I have never seen Mahnoor in a character in which she plays the seedhi sadhi larki without any glamor. Yes, she did play one such role in Talafi but I guess one cannot separate glamor and Mahnoor. It maybe that it comes naturally to her and she looks stylish no matter what. But a real actor is one who can truly change his or her looks according to the demand of the character.
There was a time when Mohib was very comfortable with his curls and his wheatish complexion but not anymore. Mohib has dead straight hair now and the foundation is a constant, not to mention the kajol and everything else. Mohib Mirza is another one of those very good actors, who cannot compromise on their looks no matter what role they are playing,
Imran Abbas:
Imran Abbass has always been very conscious about his looks; something that anyone can guess. Except for a very few plays, he has always made sure that his hair looks its best and he is also one of those male actors who wear a lot of make up.
Mehreen Raheel:
How is it possible that we talk about actors who put their looks before anything else and Mehreen Raheel is left out of the discussion? Mehreen Raheal has always played characters that are glamorous and even if they are not she makes them glamorous with her look; Dastaan for instance. I have never seen Mehreen wearing a simple shalwar kameez on screen with little make up.
This list is not meant to discourage anyone, all of these actors are very talented and they have proved their versatility too time and again but sometimes it is good to see the artists not depending so much on their looks especially at times when they seem out of place.
There is no dearth of talented actors and actresses in our TV Industry. These raw actors and actresses enthrall us with their immense talent and nuanced performances. However, many of these actors have been typecast now and we see them doing the same kind of roles over and over again. It’s not that these actors do not have talent,it’s the directors and producers who limit them or maybe the audiences want to see them doing the same kind of thing over and over again and don’t accept them when they try something new and different. The following are a few such actors and actresses
Fawad Afzal Khan
Fawad Khan is a superstar and is a powerhouse of talent. No two views on that. However, he is limited to playing lover boy kind of roles.Infact, whenever a love story or a popular love story is filmed for screen, everyone starts demanding that Fawad be cast as the main lead. This was the reason for Mata-e-Jaan not getting so popular and not doing so well on the ratings chart.Similarly, the audiences are already disappointed with Farhat Ishtiaq’s upcoming ‘Bin Roye Ansoo’ as they wanted to see Fawad as the perfect lover boy with Mahira and not Humayun Saeed. Another one of Fawad’s serials ‘Numm’ to be aired on Geo again features a love story with a feudal background. So, we can say that audiences and makers consider Fawad fit for love stories only and do not give him other roles.Audiences do not accept him in other roles either as is evident from his grey shaded characters in Akbari Asghari and Kuch Pyar Ka Pagal Pan Bhee Tha.This supremely talented actor definitely deserves more and the audiences also need to accept him in roles other than the perfect lover boy.
Sanam Baloch
Sanam Baloch is a fiery performer and that she has proven time and again. Her serial ‘Dastaan’ is testimony to this where she played the role of Bano to perfection showcasing Bano’s transformation from a simple girl in love with Hassan to the one emotionally craving for Pakistan to a crusader who can’t see an impure Pakistan.Unfortunately,Sanam’s choice of projects in recent times such as Roshan Sitara,Nadamat,Zindagi Dhoop Tum Ghana Saya,Durr-e-Shehwar and now Kankar see her playing her the ‘bechari’ wronged woman type of characters. Most often, her husband and in-laws wrong her, make her life miserable and she either suffers in silence with the hope that things will get better with time and everyone accolades her bravery or she puts up some form of resistance.I am not sure if audiences want to see Sanam shedding buckets full of tears everytime she appears in a drama but I long for the Sanam of Doraha where she went to the extent of breaking up Humayun Saeed’s marriage with Sonia Rehman so that she could marry Humayun.
Hina Khawaja Bayat
Hina Khawaja Bayat is talented and beautiful. She rose to fame with Humsafar where she played Sara’s mom.Since then what she has majorly done on screen is utter Falak Jani,Zaroon Jani,Aun Jani.Except for Talkhiyan where she played a grey shaded aunt, she can be seen either the doting, suave or indifferent mother in all her other plays. She need to try out something different and makers should also harness her talent for something totally novel and new.
Shehryar Munawar
Shehryar Munawar is hero material from all angles. He’s good looking, has got good physique and good screen presence. He lights up the frames in which he appears. However, the same cannot be said of his acting skills. He needs to work on his expressions and smile less which is probably his habit. If he can work on his expressions a little more,he can become the perfect actor. He has everything else going for him.Maybe,he just needs time to perfect himself like many other actors before him have done.
Mawra Hocaine
What does the name bring to your mind.Yes,definitely the image of a poor woman who is subjected to torture, mental stress and harassment at the hands of husband/in-laws.She played this role to the hilt in Ik Tamanna Lahil Si and has done similar stuff in Mere Huzoor,Mein Gunahgar Naheen,Mere Harjai and many episodes of Kitni Girhain Baqee Hain. With the exception of Yahan Pyar Naheen Hai she’s never played a grey shaded character and most probably we won’t see her playing such a character again either.
These are some of the actors who have been typecast. You are free to name others. I would once again reiterate that more than the actors,it is the fault of the makers and audiences who don’t accept them in new avatars.
Typecasting refers to actors being cast in a particular role only. This is a worldwide phenomena but it is particularly worse in the subcontinent region. This not only limits an actor’s potential but also limits their career opportunities. Here are some prominent actors and actresses who are getting type casted.
1) Ismat Zaidi: She has over played being the sweet mother/mother-in-law of Pakistani serials. I understand that her soft voice and her face cut makes her ideal for being a mother but come on shouldn’t she be expanding her horizons?
2) Hina Khwaja Bayat: This actress who started her career quite late is highly educated and has an equal command over English and Urdu. How ever as Jang put it she is nowadays ideal for playing upper-class mothers. She got out of her comfort zone and played ‘Apu ji’ on Talkhiyan. How ever this excellent serial was ignored by most even her own channel Express who promoted Indian and Turkish serials instead. She is nowadays playing a scheming lower-middle class character in a serial on Express Entertainment. Hope fully she experiments more in the future.
3) Zaheen Tahira: She rose to nationwide fame playing the mother on PTV’s ‘khuda ki basti’. As former actress turned critic and literary figure Dr. Huma Mir put it that image has become so entrenched in people’ views that it is impossible to break. She played the innocent and suffering mothers and now Grandmother on many serials ever since.
4) Akbar Subhani: The son of senior actor Subhani Bayunus he is being casted now a days as the ill, poor or the hapless father who is always suffering from financial problems or is concerned about his daughter’s ‘rishta’. in Sabz Qadam he combined two of those problems together. LOL.
5) Ahsan Khan: The male answer to the tragic chronically crying women. He is truly a ‘ rota dhota mard’ For example ‘ Mujhe khuda pe yaqeen hai’
6) Adnan Siddiqui and Faisal Qureshi: These two gentleman desperately need to sort whatever psychological issues they have and stop pairing with heroines young enough to be their daughters. This is not cool it is just plain sad.
7)Rabia Noreen and Saba Faisal: These ladies have played a variety of characters in their acting career but now a days they are adept at playing the mother-in-law from hell. So sad. What a waste of acting talent!
8) Saba Hameed: From playing strong women in serials from PTV Lahore to playing hilarious characters in ‘ Family front’ and the Baraat series. She is now also going the way of rabia and Saba faisal playing the mother-in-law from hell or the selfish mother. The list is long Qaid-e-tanhai, My dear soutan, Thakan etc. A recent notable exception is the mother from ‘Pyare afzal’.
9) Sajal Ali: Known for her sweet innocent face she is nowadays either playing the helpless victim in her dramas for ex ‘Chup raho’ or acting in serials promoting borderline pedophilia by marrying men are father’s age. For example ‘Sitamghar’ and many more. a notable exception is ‘Sannata’
10) Mikaal Zulfiqar: The husband from hell he will abuse his wifes horribly or leave them for girls( yes I do mean girls!) who can act as his personal maids. The list is too long too mention here. Also he will mot definitely cheat on them for example ‘Shehar-e-zaat’ and ‘Mirat-ul-uroos’.
Allah reham kare iski biwi pe. LOL
11)Sana Askari: She played some brilliant characters but now a days she is bring type casted as the shrill-voiced scheming wife or the sister and/or sister-in-law from hell. This makes me sad since her previous work in low-key serials like ‘Dareecha’ where she played a suffering wife who develops a split personality due to her husband’s abuse or the out spoken but soft-hearted sister in ‘ Shaista Shaista’ is brilliant.
12) Waseem Abbas: This senior actor is playing fathers who are constantly annoyed at their children, wifes or the whole world in general. God alone knows what has gotten him so annoyed at this age. May be it is the nonsensical scripts.
13) Shakeel: This actor who rose to fame as being the in PTV’s Shehzori with Neelofar Abbasi is now playing fathers who have little understanding of what’s happening around them. They are either down right evil or cause more damage then good. A Classic example is ‘mujhe khuda pe yaqeen hai’ where he generally ranted against every one and concentrated his energy, time and brain on various beard styles and dyeing patterns. It is sad to see this especially when he still has his old spark left. Just see his work on Hum’s telefilm ‘kaun qamarara?’
14) Begum Jahanara Hai: She acts in her dramas as she is in real life mostly playing elderly rich ladies. she has her self stated in her interview in Jang that audiences were not ready to see her in unsophisticated roles. So it is one pearl necklace, silks saris wearing adventure after another. LOL
15) Hina Dilpazeer: This name may surprise every one. Hina has been known for taking challenging roles even playing a man. a transgender but this is what is proving to be her undoing. Her constant portrayal of mostly lower-middle class ‘jhagraloo aurat’ is cutting her career opportunities. She her self complained in her interview that after her first telefilm was aired producers and directors started calling. How ever on her hearing her voice they would say ‘ nahin woh to koi bohat jahil aurat thin hamen unse baat karayen!’ But Hina herself is perpetuating this image. As much as I’m a fan of Faseeh Bari khan’s work please stop working in a particular type of serials and telefilms.
While we are at it let me say this also the character of Momo is tragically unfunny. Bulbulay is mind numbingly stupid. Also ‘Mithoo and Apa’ is a bad spinoff/ remake/ rip-off/whatever the hell it is of ‘Qudusi sahi ki bewa’ minus all the fun.
16) Fawad khan: This star is now a days taking roles where he is always the spoilt tragically misunderstood hero whom our heroine must confront, reform or marry what ever stucks the writer’s fancy. There I said it! :p
I would like to thank all the commentators and people who take time to read and comment on my articles. Keep supporting and commenting! LOL.
Pakistani drama industry is blessed with exceptional actors who are not afraid to try new roles and enjoy what they do. These actors invest their time and energy into their projects, work really hard to give every role they play a realistic feel and make these roles memorable. So far this year we have seen many memorable performances by these actors which make it pretty clear that they are without a doubt in full form and are doing better than ever.
Here is a list of some unparalleled actors who are at the top of their game this year.
Sami Khan
Sami Khan has always given every role he has ever played his best but this year he got more recognition and love from the viewers than ever before because after a long time he worked with different production houses and was constantly experimenting with diverse roles. He breathed tangible life into some of the most difficult characters, made the most unlikeable characters appealing and continued to give one amazing performance after the other. It won’t be wrong to say that right now Sami Khan is the kind of actor who could be the sole reason why you tune into even those plays which don’t click with you. Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua, Rasm e Dunya, Aisi Hei Tanhai, Khudgarz and more recently Woh Mera Dil Tha are some of the plays in which Sami Khan mesmerized the viewers with his outstanding performances.
Nauman Ijaz
Nauman Ijaz is a powerhouse of talent who never fails to impress but there have been times when he has opted for projects which didn’t suit his exceptional acting skills. Lately however he has chosen to play some of the most unconventional roles and took this opportunity to prove his mettle as an extraordinary actor yet again. His effortless portrayal as a strict father who gradually underwent a drastic change overtime in drama serial Sang-e-Mar Mar impressed one and all but recently his character in drama serial in Dar Si Jati Hei Sila is unlike any other he has played in his entire career. Choosing to play a vile character like that of Joi must have been a tough choice for an actor who has almost always played charming roles in some capacity or the other yet Nauman Ijaz has put his heart and soul into this role and made it count! When an actor of his caliber decides to move out of his comfort zone decades after being part of the business, you know that he is still as passionate about acting as he was on day one. Nauman Ijaz is definitely at the top of his game right now.
Aamina Sheikh
Aamina Sheikh is one of those very few versatile actresses of our drama industry who know the exact treatment a character deserves. However in the past, Aamina hardly got any such drama where she could perform to her full potential even though she did the best she could but somehow the characters didn’t really give her a chance to make an impact. The way Aamina Sheikh has performed in Khudgarz has convinced every single viewer that she is a force to be reckoned with. The character that Aamina has played in Khudgarz allowed her to showcase the talent that she has when it comes to acting and it is because of her phenomenal performance, everyone was left heart broken when her character died in the drama. Aamina Sheikh has it in her to effortlessly and convincingly play such challenging characters and we hope she gets to play these kinds of roles in the future too.
Noor-ul-Hassan
There are very few actors in the industry who could be a perfect fit for some specific type of roles yet they simply refuse to be typecast. Noor-ul-Hassan is one such actor who has the perfect looks for being the decent older brother or a helpless father yet he simply refuses to be typecast! Although Noor-ul-Hassan’s acting skills have always been commendable but lately he has been more impressive than ever in different roles which show that he can seamlessly fit into any kind of character. Few of his recent dramas like Sammi, Meeras, Dar Si Jati Hei Sila and Aangan speak volumes of his credibility as a solid performer. In Sammi he played the role of a weak father but in Meeras he plays the role of a wicked man who couldn’t care less about anyone and in Aangan he plays the sensible older brother who speaks his mind yet is really caring with finesse. Noor-ul-Hassan made his presence felt recently more than he has ever before, he brought out the best (or worst) in his characters and won the hearts of the viewers.
Irsa Ghazal
Irsa Ghazal has become a household name over the years because she has given some stellar performances in the past. Irsa has always played serious and challenging roles and she most certainly has done justice to them all but she blew everyone away with her performance as Hajra in Aangan because no one could ever imagine that she could play a comic role of a Punjabi Bahu to perfection. Hajra’s character has turned out to be everyone’s favorite and needless to say, it is only and solely because of the fact that Irsa Ghazal has breathed life into it. Hajra’s character needed a specific sort of treatment and the way Irsa Ghazal has carried it out proves that she can excel at such humorous and comic roles too. We hope to see her playing such characters in the future because she has given everyone a taste of how perfect her performance can be in such setting as well.
Yumna Zaidi
Yumna Zaidi is one such actress from the younger lot who is not only extraordinarily talented but also doesn’t shy away from experimenting and trying something new every single time. Yumna happens to be one of those very few actors whose graph keeps on getting better and the she never really fails to leave a mark no matter which character gets assigned to her. In Dar Si Jati Hai Sila Yumna’s performance leaves the viewers spellbound and in Pukaar, she happens to be the only one doing full justice and drawing the attention of the viewers to the drama. Yumna Zaidi has raised the bar so high that the news of her upcoming projects excite the viewers as they know they are going to get a quality acting and performance by her.
Saman Ansari
The fact that Saman Ansari takes every project she chooses to be a part of really seriously is evident from her powerful performances in all the recent dramas she has been a part of. She always looks and acts the role and makes her characters come alive on screen. Not only this, every drama which she acted in this year has served a bigger purpose which we are sure wasn’t a coincidence. Her performances in dramas like Sammi, Ghairat, Khaani and Dar Si Jati Hei Sila were extraordinary although the roles she played in each of these dramas were completely different from each other. Saman Ansari has been giving the viewers a reason to tune into her dramas this year therefore this list would have been incomplete without her.
Mansha Pasha
Mansha Pasha has been in the industry for quite some while now but apart from a few dramas, she never really got a chance to shine through, but it is so good to see her doing so well lately because she not only has been acting well, she has been doing complete justice to the characters that are assigned to her. With such amazing performances in Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua, Aangan and Khudgarz, Mansha has proved that she will keep on pushing her boundaries and will now experiment with different characters. It is actually a delight to see Mansha trying something new lately because she is getting to showcase her caliber as an actor.
Iffat Omar
Iffat Omar Iffat Omar does very limited projects but whenever she graces the screens, she makes sure to give such performances which stay with the viewers for a long time. Iffat is one of those actors who believes in quality and not quantity, that is why she chooses very few projects every now and then. Iffat Omar has excelled as Laila in Aangan and in Noor ul Ain, her character of Ghazala is the only interesting bit in the otherwise one-dimensional and flat story. Iffat Omar is a very convincing and versatile actor and she has this undeniable screen presence which makes her performances a treat to watch and that is why, we would love to see more of her in the future as well because she chooses very different and unique roles.
Do share your thoughts about the actors in the list and feel free to add to add new names!

Pakistani drama industry is filled with talented actors who are continuously working hard, even after decades of being part of the field, to entertain the viewers with performances which translate the character they are playing on screen impeccably. It is a fact that even with so many talented actors in the industry, there are very few who actually sell a drama; these are the actors who are the USP of a drama and because of whom people tune into these dramas. The reasons for this are many but the most important reason is that these actors always give every role they play their best even if a character is average, they make it likeable with their performance. Another reason is that some of these actors are very particular about the projects they choose to be a part of therefore the viewers have more faith in them. The viewers know that if one of these actors is going to be a part of a drama then that drama will definitely be worth watching and even if the drama as a whole is not impressive, these actors will most certainly deliver.
There are also those actors who haven’t been around for too long and in fact are only newcomers but they impressed the viewers with their debut performances so much that many of the viewers are already waiting anxiously for their next project.
Here is a list of few actors who make a drama a must-watch and the viewers look forward to their upcoming projects.
Humayun Saeed
Humayun Saeed has been a part of the industry for such a long time but over these years he not only proved his mettle as an actor but showed his passion to the drama buffs by opting for different roles every now and then. This is the reason why Humayun Saeed’s work is not only acknowledged but followed by the viewers on such a large scale as they know that if Humayun Saeed is gracing any drama with his presence, it is meant to be good. Even though he has gravitated towards movies now but Dil Lagi marked his return to the dramas after a long time which was well-received by the viewers and showed that even if he was going to do selective work, he was going to make sure it is different and unique.
Saba Qamar
Another big name and star of our industry who believes in selective, different and quality work that is why the moment the news of Saba Qamar’s upcoming drama makes it to the social media, people find themselves waiting for it as they know Saba Qamar’s work is going to guarantee quality entertainment. Saba Qamar is not afraid to experiment and that is why she has earned a lot of credibility over the years by opting for different roles, which represent her vision as an actor who believes in variety. Bunty I Love You, Digest Writer, Sangat, Besharam and Main Sitara are some of Saba’s recent works and all of them were quite popular among the drama viewers which showed Saba Qamar in different sorts of roles.
Noman Ijaz
Noman Ijaz can never wrong with his performance no matter what. He is a skillful performer who knows exactly what is expected from him which is why there is a special place in the hearts of the viewers for him. He has acted in so many dramas but there wasn’t even one instance when he gave a weak performance. His portrayal of a very difficult character in Sang-e-Mar Mar recently impressed the viewers and during the promotions of Khan he was clearly used to sell the drama for obvious reasons.
Sanam Baloch
The biggest regret that Pakistani drama buffs have is that Sanam Baloch doesn’t appear in dramas anymore. Even though her fans get their fix by watching her morning shows but seeing her in dramas used to be a treat within it self. Sanam Baloch was in her glory when she used to work in dramas, that is why in such a short span of time she experimented so much and showed her abilities as an actor. Akbari Asghari, Nadamat, Dastaan, Daam, Manchalay and her last work Kankar, all these dramas had so much variety which showed that Sanam Baloch enjoyed doing all kinds of roles. However, her fans are already excited as she just announced her come back to the dramas and we obviously can not wait.
Mohsin Abbas Haider
Mohsin Abbas Haider’s impression on the viewers completely altered, in a good way, when he made his acting debut in drama serial Muqabil. The singer who some viewers did not even take very seriously, when they saw him performing in Mazak Raat, swept the same viewers off their feet with his mature and remarkable performance as an actor in his debut drama serial. Mohsin Abbas takes his acting career very seriously which is why the passion with which he performs has won him a lot of fans in a short span of time. He is definitely the kind of actor who keeps you entertained and leave you in awe of his performance no matter what the situation in the drama maybe. Everyone who is watching Muqabil is already waiting to see him in another drama.
Sania Saeed
Sania Saeed is another actress who has been around for a very long time but viewers still get excited whenever they see her on screen. She has a unique acting style which always resonates with the viewers. She always looks and acts the role that she is assigned with. Her recent performances in drama serial Tum Yaad Aye, Sang-e-Mar Mar and Sammi were poles apart but she managed to translate all these demanding roles flawlessly on screen. Sania Saeed’s career is an example of the fact that brilliant actors do not have a shelf life.
Imran Abbas
Imran Abbas has made quite a name for himself and he has been a part of Pakistani drama industry for such a long time. Imran Abbas has a massive fandom and he makes sure he brings something new to the table every time he works in a drama. Even in recent years we have seen so much of variety from him and even before the promos make it to the television, his dramas are already highly anticipated as the drama buffs know they are going to be in for a treat. Even though Imran Abbas took a long break for a while as he was working in India but now people are enjoying watching him on their screens in Pakistani dramas again. Dil e Muztar, Alvida, Mera Naam Yousuf Hai, Khuda Aur Mohabbat and currently airing Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai are all of Imran’s recent dramas that did extremely well in terms of popularity because they had Imran Abbas’s name attached to them.
Maya Ali
Maya Ali has a popularity which is undeniable. Maya Ali proved her acting by doing different roles in different dramas. Yes, lately she has given two flop dramas back to back but this is a fact that no matter how the drama itself it, Maya Ali’s association with it brings a lot of attention to it. Maya Ali did similar kinds of roles but then she received a lot of appreciation for her work in blockbuster Diyar e Dil, but after that, her drama choices didn’t do anything good for her but we still have hope in her as she is a very strong actor.
Faysal Qureshi
Faysa Qureshi is a household name. His experience as an actor is huge that is why no matter what he does, it always gets hyped up and the viewers await his drama serials. Faysal Qureshi also likes to experiment with different roles because of which his fans get a lot of variety and they follow his dramas keenly. Bashar Momin and Mol are two of his recent dramas which were followed by a lot of people and both these dramas showed Faysal Qureshi in a completely different light.
Mahira Khan
Mahira Khan has star power and a massive fan following. The fact that she does only one drama in a year makes her one of those actors whose dramas people watch for her more than anything else. Mahira Khan proved herself as a polished actress in drama serial Sadqay Tumhare, her character and acting was the only good thing about Bin Roye. Lately, she is also one of those actors who are either completely loved or severely criticized but the fact is that even those people who don’t approve of her tune into her projects just as often as those who like her.
Saba Hameed
Saba Hameed was always a powerful performer but in the past few years she proved that even when you are around for decades, you can still make an impact and experiment by choosing the right projects and most importantly make people tune into your dramas just by being part of them. Saba Hameed’s performance in Marasim, Guzarish, Dillagi, Khuda Mera Bhi Hai and Muqabil recently showed how versatile she is as an actress. She is also one of those very few actresses who truly live and breathe the characters they play.
Kubra Khan
Model turned actress and despite being new to the drama industry, Kubra Khan is not only lucky but she is quite smart when it comes to her drama choices, because of which she has done so many different dramas and has already proved herself as a good actor with a strong screen presence. In such a short span of time, Kubra Khan has appeared in so many dramas portraying characters that are completely different from one another. Kubra Khan has shown that she is always going to experiment and will never become a victim of typecasting which is commendable. Sang e Marmar, Khuda Aur Mohabbat, Muqabil, Andaz e Sitam are the dramas that Kubra has appeared in and has received a lot of appreciation for. Kubra’s upcoming drama Alif Allah Aur Insaan is already one of the highly anticipated drama of 2017.
Masroor Paras
With only a handful of TV dramas to his credit, Masroor Paras showed what he is capable of especially with his appearance in the recent blockbuster Sang e Marmar. It wasn’t easy portraying a character like Torah Khan but Masroor Paras shone and showed what he is made of when it comes to acting that is why made Torah Khan become the talk of the town. After Sang e Marmar, a lot of viewers are awaiting for his next project as they expect nothing but the best from him.
Sajal Ali
Sajal Ali has a huge fan base and that is why almost every single drama of hers is well received by the viewers. Sajal Ali is an eye candy and on top of that, she is a very strong actress, that is why irrespective of the nature of the role that she plays, she always gets praised for it. There was a time when Sajal Ali was being typecast and she was doing role which were too mature for her age but with those, she got to prove her acting skills. Chup Raho and Gul e Rana are two of her most-watched dramas in the recent times and her drama Yaqeen Ka Safar which is going to go on air tonight has already garnered a lot of attention already.
Ayeza Khan
Ayeza Khan is one such celebrity that is loved by so many people. Even though Ayeza was a victim of typecasting but ever since her come back she has proved that she can do something new and is enjoying experimenting with different characters. Due to her huge fan base, any drama that has Ayeza Khan in it is already sold before it makes it to the screen because people love watching her and undoubtedly, she has proved her acting skills in all these years too. Tum Kon Piya and Shehrnaz did extremely well and her currently on-air drama Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai is garnering a lot of appreciation already.
Asif Raza Mir
Asif Raza Mir is a legend, we have been watching him for a really long time now. He has a class of his own which is why just watching him perform on screen is a treat. He took the most crucial decision of his acting career by choosing to play the role of a rapist in drama serial Muqabil and is getting tons of appreciation for giving a superb performance which leaves the viewers spellbound every time. He is rarely seen in dramas therefore the viewers look forward to his projects and tune into his plays just to enjoy his presence on screen.
So, here’s the list of all those actors that according to us are able to sell the drama with their association with it, because of their top-notch acting, experience and massive fan bases. Please feel free to add more such names of the celebrities that get you excited and make you anticipate their dramas eagerly.
When we speak or think about our senior most artists, we feel like extending respect to them which they definitely are entitled to; given the history of their work but these days it seems that our respected senior artists are working on a sole purpose of defeating the baggage of age they carry with them & seems like they don’t really care what is expected of them.
When I speak about aging gracefully, it is strictly based on the vibes our artists have started to give lately through their outer appearance & their conversations. I am not judging them about what sort of people are they or how good or bad they are but yes I think they must now take a notice of the number that defines them & that is their AGE!
Bushra Ansari:
Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo!
Hands down, she tops the list undisputedly. Whether it’s her over or under dressing in Pakistan Idol, her over the top hairstyles or 20 layers of foundation & makeup, she has started to over-do things a bit (read a lot). I know she made the place in our hearts with her sense of humour & comic timing but I think she now wants to amuse people through her get-ups as well & now that’s taking a humour to another level. Seems like she takes it very seriously therefore we see her making hideous choices in terms of styling that may or may not, mostly may not suit her.
Javed Sheikh:
Rangeen Mizaji at it’s peak!
According to a morning show host, when she questioned Javed Sheikh about what’s he going to do if he ever gets locked up in the elevator with Meera & Reema, the senior artist replied ‘he wouldn’t have to do anything as the ladies would do the honours (toot toot toot toot)’. I thought his flamboyancy was restricted to his conversations only but seems like he has fallen in the league of those who just do not choose to age & gracefully at that. He has spent his life like a Casanova but I think it’s better to use the remaining energies on teaching his kids about acting as that’s a massive task he has on his hands & in his home as a household chore.
Shakeel:
Shauqeen Shaquille!
Whether it’s about the changing colors like seasons on his face or naming himself as Shaquille, this particular uncle has started to look too over-the-top lately. From pulling off a Salt & Pepper signature look of Amitabh Bachchan (Black Hair, White Beard) to playing Holi on his beard, uncle is trying really hard to impress but I think if he works on his acting at the given point in time, he will impress the audience but seems like he is so busy looking in the mirror that he has no energy left to look into the Camera & deliver what’s required of him in terms of acting.
Mahnoor Baloch:
Turning 60’s into 16!
I know, may be around decades of dieting & what-not has made her look young & beautiful but seems like she is too keen on making a statement before she hits her sweet 60’s. Unfortunately, we saw her pulling off all the Beyonce/Katrina/JLo-like ensembles in her recent film. She is one of those who just don’t get a point that as much as her weighing machine pulls a lower number, her age counter keeps on accelerating.
I know all these actors have worked tremendously & have played a major role in giving this industry a recognition & there is nothing wrong in looking attractive but I think it’s better to be decent than amusing. Feel free to contribute to the list & share your thoughts on how much do you feel they need to work on representing the country they belong to!
It takes a lot of factors for an actor to leave a mark and make a name for themselves in the drama industry where there is a lot of cutthroat competition. The show-business demands every single actor to up their game if they want to survive and want to touch the stardom they dream of. An actor is under a lot of pressure, both from the industry and the audience for whom they work, that is why it is extremely important for an actor to do well to attract the viewership and bring something new to the table every single time. Where a few actors do well in that regard, there are a lot such actors who fail to deliver what is expected from them. It then comes down to the actor’s personal choice as to which direction do they want to steer their career to – if they want to experiment and offer variety to the audience or want to stick to their comfort zones by getting typecast for the roles they deem easy.
Where last week we covered those actors who could sell the drama with their names, this week, we are covering those actors who despite being talented, despite being a part of the industry for a decent amount of time and despite getting a lot of opportunities, couldn’t up their game in such a way where they could sell a drama with their names solely. Make no mistake, all the actors mentioned in this list are subjectively talented and good looking individuals but when it comes to their job as an actor, they haven’t really been able to bring themselves to such a point where the audience would be excited enough to look forward to their work.
So, let’s take a look at the actors who cannot sell the drama with their names:
Aisha Khan
There was a time when the viewers used to look forward to Aisha Khan’s projects and the producers openly claimed that her tears guaranteed TRPs. Nowadays when Pakistani viewers look for strong female leads and appreciate actresses who are willing to go the extra mile to make their characters more appealing, Aisha Khan’s unnecessary make-up, performances which are more or less monotonous and focus on quantity instead of quality are few reasons why Aisha Khan is no longer the kind of actress who can sell a drama anymore all on her own. The fact is that most people would like to see Aisha Khan taking a break from dramas.
Mawra Hocane
Mawra Hocane is one of those actresses who have been typecast the most. She has played the bechari in innumerable plays and she herself says that crying is her USP. She has never taken up a challenging role therefore the viewers know that she won’t have a surprise in store for them. Most of the times her dramas went unnoticed and even now when she made a comeback after taking a break from television, she wasn’t the reason why viewers tuned into Sammi.
Syra Yousuf
Syra Yousuf did really well in the beginning of her career because she played roles which proved her versatility but later on she played the lead in many dramas which turned out to be major disappointments. Dramas like Darmiyan, Rubaru and recently Rishta Hai Jaise Khawab Sa send all the wrong signals; it was almost as if Syra Yousuf was working in every project offered to her without considering how it could effect her career in a bad manner. Syra Yousuf’s name no longer excites the viewers the way it used to once.
Danish Taimoor
Danish Taimoor is another actor who is actually quite gifted but anyone who has been following Pakistani dramas would know that Danish Taimoor has given very few memorable performances in his career. Due to this reason, Danish Taimoor hasn’t been able to win the reputation of an actor who can sell a drama serial all on his own. He is still looking for a definite identity in the field of entertainment even after all these years which is probably why he does not have that magnetic appeal which pulls the viewers towards him.
Armeena Rana Khan
Although Armeena Rana Khan is not seen on television very often but even then her name doesn’t guarantee that the viewers will watch her dramas only because of her. The reason for this is that Armeena Rana Khan has limited acting skills because of which she does not bring the X factor with her when she is part of a project. She barely manages to deliver therefore her performances are almost always unimpressive. Armeena Rana also concentrates more on her looks than her performance which is also off putting. The only exception in her entire career was her performance in drama serial Mohabbat Ab Nahi Ho Gi.
Adnan Siddique
Despite being such an experienced actor, Adnan Siddique fails to accept that gone are the days when he could pull off a main lead character in any drama. After being a part of the drama industry for such a long time and after being well aware of the ins and outs of the industry, it was expected of Adnan Siddique to make wise choices and offer variety to the drama viewers, but looks like Adnan is afraid of experimenting be it in terms of his looks or roles, therefore, he conveniently chooses to play such characters where either he has failed as a husband or he has been wronged by his wife. Adnan Siddique has nothing new to offer and he chooses to stick to his comfort zone, which is playing the role of a lethargic husband to perfection, which actually makes the viewers run away from his dramas.
Sarwat Gillani
Sarwat Gillani used to excite the viewers because everyone knew that she was one such actress who wasn’t afraid of experimenting and always brought something new to the table but looks like Sarwat has taken her stardom and her talent for granted, that is why it has been such a long time that Sarwat gave us an unforgettable performance in a memorable drama. Almost all of Sarwat’s recent projects have gone unnoticed because she was seen playing the damsel in distress, which was so not expected of her. We still remember how Sarwat made us fall in love with her character Mahi in Malal, like we know that is what she is capable of but, not sure what has happened to her choices.
Sami Khan
Sami Khan has been in the industry for such a long time but not sure if the luck was not on his side or he never made wise choices because in a considerable span of his career, he has hardly given any such performance that can be remembered. Looks like when Ahsan Khan made the transition and started exploring the actor in him, he crowned his colleague Sami Khan with the title of ‘Naqaam Ashiq’ that Ahsan Khan held onto for a long long time, that is why in almost every other drama now, Sami Khan is seen portraying that role with utmost dedication. When it comes to a Sami Khan drama, it is a known fact that it is going to be a love story going around in circles, without anything new in it, therefore it seems like a great idea to skip his dramas because of his track record, Sami Khan surely cannot sell the drama with his name.
Hira Mani
We totally believe that Hira Mani is a strong actress and she has proved her mettle in the drama Preet Na Kariyo Koi, but sadly, due to her talk shows and appearances on morning shows, Hira has left such a bad impression on the viewers that they find it hard to give her a chance as her personality still haunts them. The viewers tend to not tune to her dramas as they can not differentiate between Hira the actor and Hira the celebrity. Even though Hira Mani is a great addition to the industry but sadly, the damage has been done and viewers don’t want to give those dramas a chance that she is a part of.
Agha Ali
Agha Ali has made himself a staple in the supporting cast lot of the Pakistani drama industry. Despite trying so hard and despite getting a lot of chances, Agha Ali couldn’t sell the drama solely, that is why he is seen playing the supporting role or is paired with an actress who has a better reputation (read fanbase) than him. Even though Agha Ali has appeared in quite a few dramas as the protagonist but those dramas were the ones that either aired at 7, 9 or 10PM. Agha Ali has remained unsuccessful in doing well in the 8PM slot, which actually is the prime time of glory for the Pakistani Drama buffs. Also, even if Agha by mistake appeared in a prime time drama, sadly, he just didn’t have it in him to attract the audience.
Urwa Hocane
Even though Urwa has garnered a lot of appreciation for her role in Udaari, but if we think rationally, Udaari was basically a joint effort and Urwa wasn’t the selling point of that drama in the first place. Quite a lot of viewers in fact were hesitant to tune to Udaari because of her but fortunately, Ahsan Khan, Samiya Mumtaz and Bushra Ansari roped them in. Before Udaari, Urwa did work in quite a few dramas but failed to leave a mark because just like her baby sister, even she believed in crying buckets to melt the hearts of the viewers, which eventually ended up being something that ticked the viewers off. Urwa might be doing well for herself but to be honest, she won’t be able to sell the drama as a protagonist as she lacks the charm and attraction that the lead actress should have. In Marasim, Urwa performed phenomenally but then again, she wasn’t the main character in that drama.
Shehzad sheikh‘s acting skills have improved a lot lately so much so that those people who never used to tune into his dramas have been appreciating his performance in drama serial Choti Si Zindagi and Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai. Although he has improved tremendously but his career is crowded with below average performances because of which the viewers usually choose to skip a drama in which he is playing the leading role or if there aren’t other popular celebrities to give the viewers incentive to tune into a particular project which he is a part of.
Shaista Lodhi
Shaista Lodhi made her debut in dramas with Waada. Unlike Hira Mani who impressed the viewers with her solid performance in her debut drama, Shaista Lodhi failed to impress the viewers. Shaista Lodhi did not succeed in giving the right expressions because of all the plastic surgeries she got done in the past few years. The close-ups were terrible and her performance overall was not impressive at all. She is going to be one of those actresses who are the reason why people actually skip dramas!
Sana Javed
Sana Javed has a cute face and her acting is alright too but in her entire career she has not given even one performance which could pass as memorable or unforgettable. Sana Javed is always seen in mediocre dramas and her characters most often are more or less the same. Even when she was part of big projects with popular stars, she failed to get herself recognized the way many other actors do with their remarkable performances.
Shahroz Sabzwari
There are some actors who bring out the best in the roles assigned to them and then there are those who don’t have the screen presence or the ability to make their work stand out. Shahroz Sabzwari is one of those actors who usually gets overshadowed by his fellow actors because he has never given a performance which completely bowls you over. His character in Mana Ka Gharana was likeable but even then he did not make the most of it. Shahroz’s acting style is not versatile, he usually works more on his overall look than his performances. Although he has been part of many dramas but he isn’t the kind of actor who will give you a reason to watch his drama solely because of him.
So, with this, we conclude the list of those actors who cannot sell the dramas with their names in our opinion. Please feel free to add your say too and talk about those actors who make you skip their dramas.
