Jal is one of the most iconic bands in Pakistan’s history. They will always be remembered for their great music as well as the breakups and controversies between members fighting as long as their name shall live. Jal first broke up when Atif aslam went solo and later on it broke up when Farhan Saeed started his solo career.

Goher Mumtaz was a guest on Freebisd Music Entertainment YouTube and talked about his musical journey as well as the band breaking up several times. Speaking about Farhan Saeed, he said he met him through a friend after Atif Aslam left and according to Goher, Farhan Saeed was not actually needed in the band as he himself was a vocalist as well. He also added that he had to work hard to get Farhan registered with the audience. Farhan was singing the old album songs at the start and he was not very confident. Gohar then made a few songs for him to get his confidence up.

Gohar Rasheed plays the character of Mikael in drama serial, Mann Mayal. In an interview with BBC Urdu, Gohar Rasheed shared an incident where he was harassed by angy Mann Mayal fans.

“I went to the cinema with a couple of friends and there were a few older women standing nearby. One of them came up to me, and asked, ‘Aap Mikael hain na?‘ and I said ‘yes.’ Just then in all seriousness, she said, ‘Ap bohat buray hain’ and the other woman standing behind her said, ‘Ap please yahan sey chaley jaein warna hum ap ko chapair maar deyngay’ and had I stayed there a few moments longer, I would’ve probably gotten a slap.”

Gohar Rasheed believes that the audience can relate to the character of Mikael. “When the drama aired, I received messages from women on my Facebook page and profile saying, ‘Thank you so much for playing your character so well, our ex-husbands used to behave exactly like that; mistreating us while we used to sit naively and thinking no, he is my husband, there was also the societal pressure. Now after watching Mann Mayal we realise we were only ill-treating ourselves. Thank you so much for playing this role and you’re a terrible person’.”

Yasir in Shikwa, Shaukat in Digest Writer, Omer in Khilona, Mikael in Mann Mayal, some would say that Gohar Rasheed always ends up playing the bad guy. “In our industry we have a lot of heroes, and whoever [enters the field] comes to become a hero. “It’s a celebration song shot in suburban Karachi,” Rasheed told The Express Tribune. “My character is a dholak player, who stumbles upon this celebration of a newborn baby where a hundred transgenders are dancing and participates in it.”

“It is an item song because of the elaborate and colourful set, mainly. The song is done in good fun and not meant to degrade them. In fact, you will find many transgenders dancing and celebrating with people on many occasions across Pakistan so it is not out of the ordinary,” he added.

He further said, “When I was working on this song, I never thought about what the audience would perceive. The idea is to give transgender community an opportunity to be a part of the entertainment industry so they can be perceived as equals. But when we were working with them, I realised they were equally talented as anyone else, maybe even better. So, the purpose is to show that they can be good entertainers and deserve equal opportunities and equal rights.”

“When we talk about trans community, it’s always a little uncomfortable. But working on the song made me realise that it’s okay to hang out, chill and dance with them. This song is a statement on its own way because we wanted to generate a certain thought.”

Rangreza is a musical-romance film featuring a love triangle between Gohar Rasheed, Urwa Hocane and Bilal Ashraf. Gohar will be seen as a Dholak player who is in love with Urwa’s character. While Urwa falls for the rockstar played by Bilal. “But I would say it is thematically connected. The film is about injustice and how only the rich get the most opportunities. So, in that way, this song fits right into the narrative and conveys a strong message about providing equal opportunities to everyone,” said Gohar.

Rangreza is directed by Aamir Mohiuddin, written by Akhtar Qayoum and co-produced by Usman Malkani and Akhlaque Mahesar.

Gohar Rasheed is a Pakistani actor mostly known for his work in drama serials like “Digest Writer” and “Mann Mayal”. The actor has also worked in movies like 021, Yalghaar and is currently coming up with yet another feature film Rangreza.

The actor said that he loves playing “the baddie” but won’t mind playing the good guy once in a while to prove his versatility.

When asked about working in Bollywood the actor had the following to say:

“It’s a creative process, acting and film-making. So if I get an invitation with dignity and respect, I’d love to go. My only concern is that the script should be good and it shouldn’t pit me as ‘the Pakistani guy.’ I rejected Neerja for this very reason… because I felt that I was there as a token Pakistani actor which is not what I am about at all! I am more than just a namesake. If it’s a good collaboration, if it’s exploring my potential as more than just ‘that Pakistani actor in an Indian film,’ yeah I don’t mind.”

We agree with Gohar through and through, art is nothing without dignity and sincerity, we wish the actor all the luck for his future endeavors because this industry deserves a better class of villains and he’s gonna give it to us (hard to miss but it’s a Joker reference).

Gohar Rasheed and Sonya Hussain have coaxed the delirium of their fans by announcing their first feature film together by the name of  “Lockdown”.

When the news came out the film was supposed to be featuring Faryal Mahmood and Gohar Rasheed. Later on the director announced that Sonya is now replacing Faryal Mahmood.

This time, however, the script was narrated by someone else who explained it in a very poor manner. After listening to the narration, I refused the drama. A few weeks later, I received a call from Saba Qamar, who suggested that I should do this character and advised me to speak to the director. When I finally heard the story from the director himself, I realized it was a completely different narrative altogether.”

He further shared, “When I found out that Shahzeb Khanzada had written the script, I was quite skeptical. I thought, how can a journalist write a drama? A drama script is very different, and I didn’t know how it would turn out. But once I read it, I was blown away. I was pleasantly surprised by the detailing. It was a well-researched and well-written drama. Kudos to 7th Sky for producing such a project.”

Gohar also spoke about the intense interrogation scenes with Saba Qamar, saying, “The dialogues given to me during the interrogation sequence were extremely harsh and brutal. I got scared while reading them. I was worried because such dangerous questions in such a tragic situation felt very disturbing. I didn’t want to deliver those dialogues and requested the director and writer to change or tone them down. However, they explained that these are, unfortunately, normal questions asked of rape victims and are part of the SOPs followed at police stations. After understanding that, I delivered those dialogues.”He concluded by saying, “It was a horrific scene for me to perform. People loved it, but I personally hated doing it.”

He further added, “It’s genuinely Saba Qamar’s love for me that whenever she sees a potential character she refers it to me and both the time she predicted that people will remember the characters she sent them to me and it happened, people do remember Shaukat and now people liked Shafiq so much. I am glad that I heard her and did both the characters.”

Gohar further mentioned that “Being a performer, I never felt that Sarah has compromised on her work due to her pregnancy. In this industry I have hardly came across anybody that honest, that true and that genuine like Sarah. Falak is lucky enough to have a life partner like Sarah.”

Gohar Rasheed wrote, “Life has its own way of making moments magical and surreal. This was the first day [7th July] of Maa’s (Farzana Munir) shoot on the set of the drama serial #Biryani. My wife and I woke up excited to drop Maa to work, while she was super nervous and scared—just like I was on my first day of school when she dropped me off. I clearly remember wanting to go back home with Maa; I didn’t want her to leave, so she stayed with me at school until I felt comfortable. After a while, when I relaxed and started playing, she gave me a reassuring look, and I looked back, assuring her I’d be fine. With a gleam of happiness in her eye, she left me at school. At chutti time, when I came out of class, I saw her waiting for me and ran to give her a tight hug. Years later, life came full circle. On this day, the same thing happened, except our roles were reversed—I was in Maa’s place, and she was in mine. We shared the same look of assurance, though this time my eyes held the gleam. Life is a funny thing, isn’t it? I LOVE YOU, MAA. I’m super proud of you, and hands down, you’re a better actor than I can ever be. @thekubism_begum, thank you for being such a great support for Maa. @badar.mehmood, my brother from another mother, thank you for taking her on board and taking such good care of her on set. Usually seen essaying unconventional roles, a source revealed that the versatile actor Gohar Rasheed will be next seen in the upcoming Maula Jatt. Under Bilal Lashari’s direction, the remake of Sultan Rahi’s classic will feature Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick. Gohar is the reportedly the latest addition to the cast of the much-awaited film.

Gohar has earlier played Zia-ul-Haq in Anwar Maqsood’s plays and was also seen as Duke in Moulin Rouge. Coming from theatre, it comes as no surprise that he is one to have pulled off exemplary roles.
