Dayan is an on-going drama on Geo TV. The drama is full of masala and it also brought back Mehwish Hayat to television after a gap of six years. Ahsan Khan and Hira Mani are the other two lead characters of this revenge based show. The drama has reached its pinnacle as Nihal is now back as Misha and she is planning to take back her child and extract revenge on everyone who hurt her as Nihal.
Nihal aka Mehwish Hayat went through a huge style transformation to become Misha. She now has full glam makeup on and she is wearing midi-dreses as she plays nanny to her own son. Zawar Shah played by Ahsan Khan is now showing his true colours. He is falling for Misha’s beauty and charm and seems like his love for Shabab is not as deep as he portrayed it to be.
The internet is in stitches over Zawar Shah’s loose heart. One user wrote, “He was pretending to be this one woman man and now look at him.” Another added, “All men are alike. As soon as they see a beautiful girl, they will change colours.” One said, “What kind of a man is Ahsan Khan playing. This is his third love.” Here is how the internet reacted:
Dayan is a popular prime time drama serial on Geo TV, written by Fatima Faizan and Amber Azhar. It has been directed by Tere Bin fame director Siraj Ul Haq. The drama is produced by 7th Sky Entertainment and is considered one of the grand productions of Geo Entertainment. The cast includes Ahsan Khan, Hira Mani, Mehwish Hayat, Osama Tahir, Shamil Khan, Sohail Sameer, Zainab Qayyum, Afsheen Hayat, Nayyar Ejaz, and Nida Mumtaz. Dayan is among the top viewed Pakistani dramas, boasting high TRPs and viewership.
So far, 29 episodes of Dayan have aired on Geo TV. In recent episodes, Nihal undergoes plastic surgery and a complete transformation and returns to Zawar Shah’s house as the nanny of her own child, Hunain. Surprisingly, no one in the household recognizes her. In the latest episode, even her mother fails to recognize her which sparks debate among Dayan viewers, who feel the creative liberties taken by the makers have become excessive and unrealistic.
Dayan viewers are quite angry at the makers for fooling the audience with obvious execution flaws. Many didn’t even buy Nihal’s mother’s blind reaction upon meeting her daughter. A social media user wrote, “Have they all gone blind? Are they suffering from black cataract that they’re unable to recognize Nihal?” Another commented, “A mother should be able to recognize her daughter immediately. She didn’t even know she had died — and they live in the same house. A daughter’s look can change, but not that much.” One viewer remarked, “She is easily recognizable, yet the mother doesn’t even recognize her own daughter. It’s a slow and poorly written story.” Another fan added, “Does makeup and a hairstyle change make a person look so different that even their real mother can’t recognize her own child? There’s a limit to absurdity.” Read the comments:
Dayan is a crime thriller drama with a dramatic flair to it. It marks the comeback of Mehwish Hayat to the television screens. The drama has finally hooked the audience with the biggest twist ever as Nihaal aka Mehwish finally changes into Misha. She was an innocent girl who went through hell and was nearly murdered by her in-laws. Her child was also snatched from her.
The drama has taken creative liberty. Nihaal has gone through plastic surgery and makeover to become the Dayan of the show. She looks the same but she is still unrecognizable. She is back at Zawar Shah’s house to get her revenge. She is now wearing western attire, her makeup is great and she is speaking English. She is the new nanny for her own son and she will be planning her next moves now.
The audience is entertained for sure. One netizen said, “Geo has crossed Star Plus with this twist. How is no one recognizing Nihaal.” One added, “So now we have to play dumb and think that Nihaal’s face is changed.” Another pointed out, “Usman Peerzada is such a talented doctor. He was previously a gynaecologist and now he is a plastic surgeon.” This is what the internet thinks:

So far, twenty episodes of Dayan have been aired on Geo TV. Dayan offers an interesting storyline, however, the drama viewers believe that Dayan gives Starplus dramas vibes. Hira Mani’s Sarees have also become a topic of discussion for fans.
Fans are criticizing the drama serial for having Indian-inspired Star Plus dramas vibes. They expressed their views on recent episodes, stating that sarees are being unnecessarily promoted in our dramas. A fan wrote, “It’s not our traditional dress—please promote shalwar kameez instead”. Another commented, “Indian-style sarees and a pathetic drama.” A viewer noted, “This drama has too many slow-motion sequences and has been unnecessarily dragged like Star plus shows” Another user wrote, “It’s a weird Indian-style copy. Mehwish Hayat doesn’t look appropriate in this role; they should have cast someone else.” Social media users also criticized the bedroom and hospital scenes. One viewer remarked, “Hira Mani looks like an overdone Christmas tree in this drama, and this role doesn’t suit her.” Read all the comments here:
Usman Peerzada is a senior Pakistani television, theater, and film actor. He is one of the co-founders of Rafi Peer Theater. His notable dramas include Sophia, Doosri Larki, Mazdeekiyan, Teesra Kinara, Sahil, Kaffara, Dayan and many others. Currently, fans are praising his performances in Main Manto Nahi Hoon and Baray Bhaiyya. He married Samina Peerzada in 1975, and together they have two daughters, Anum and Amal Peerzada.
Recently, Usman Peerzada appeared in an interview with Maliha Rehman on her YouTube channel. In the interview, the actor cleared the air regarding the allegations of Dayan being a copy of Khoon Bhari Maang, a Bollywood film starring Rekha. He also clarified the confusion about his character in Dayan.
Talking about it, he said, “There was a misunderstanding. I was not a gynecologist; the hospital had multiple directors, and I was a plastic surgeon. A friend brought his wife to me, and she was checked by a gynecologist. Later, I called my friend to give her reports. In Dayan, I played the role of a plastic surgeon, and I had done a similar character earlier for PTV. It was in the serial Doosri Larki, which aired on PTV and was inspired by the novel Mirror Has Two Faces. Javed and I were the leads, and Talat Hussain played the role I played in Dayan. It was shot with two girls. In the story, a plastic surgeon gives a girl the face of his recently murdered daughter, and she went into a house where people didn’t recognize her. It was after our serial that India made Khoon Bhari Maang. Now people say that Dayan is a copy of Khoon Bhari Maang, but in fact, it was inspired by our PTV drama Doosri Larki.” Here is the link to the video:
Dayan and Do Kinaray are two dramas that have captured the audience. They have garnered big numbers on YouTube views and TRP charts. Both the shows have one thing in common, the child star. The child star is an important character in both dramas. Hunain in Dayan is the key to the whole plot happening in the first place while Dua in Do Kinaray was the reason Dureshehwar could target Waleed again after their divorce.
The child star is a girl and her name is Hoor Shahid. Her mother has shared some sweet pictures with her daughter as well as BTS clips from some of the sets where Hoor Shahid has worked. The little girl was loved by her co-stars in both dramas. Momina Iqbal who hates baby Dua as Dureshehwar was seen loving up on baby Hoor in the BTS. Dayan is written by Fatima Faizan and Amber Azhar and directed by Siraj Ul Haq. It’s a 7th Sky Entertainment presentation.
In Dayan, Mehwish Hayat portrays the character of Nihal/Misha, a university-going girl who comes from a strict household, particularly due to her extremely rigid, alcoholic and uneducated father, who tortures and abuses her mother and family. Here are a few images of Mehwish Hayat from drama serial Dayan:
The drama viewers were quite excited to see their favourite actor Mehwish Hayat in a drama after a long gap but they got surprised to see her as a university going girl. Many aren’t happy with her character choice. A viewer wrote, “Had they made Mehwish Hayat a lecturer at the university, the story would look more believable”. Another one wrote, “Mehwish Hayat looks senior. In fact, she is too old to play the role of a college student. My God! What happened to the directors” A fan wrote, “Mehwish should stop doing roles of university going young female. She doesn’t look young anymore. No doubt she is a good actress but not made for such a young role”. Another fan wrote, “Mehwish is such a fine actor and a superstar of films but has been wasted by drama makers for this much younger role”. Almost all the fans are of the view that Mehwish Hayat could look more believable as a teacher in the university instead of the student. A few fans are also waiting for Mehwish Hayat’s transition into an evil person ( Dayan). Read the comments here:

He is known for his strong characters on-screen, his looks and his opinions which he openly expresses in interviews regarding politics and religion. The actor has been a part of classics like The Legend of Maula Jatt, Pyaray Afzal and Mann Mayal. The actor started from theatre in Islamabad and worked his way upto dramas and films.
Hamza Ali Abbasi was according to theatre director Dawar Mehmood, not a good actor. He was a product of nepotism. Dawar was a guest on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast. He revealed that they were performing Phantom of the Opera and in those days, Shah Sharabeel, the main director behind good theatre and brother of Ushna Shah used to cast people based on who can give him good TADA. Hamza Ali Abbasi comes from a privileged background. He was cast as the main lead while Zahid Ahmed was dropped just because his family owned a guest house which they could give for the director’s stay.

Daughters who filmed their father’s death have been going viral on the internet. The two women filmed all the last moments of their very sick father. They kept cheering him on and they were constantly asking him to ask their subscribers to like their video. These women went viral as this Vlog was not just distasteful but morally wrong and it was painful to watch for many who have lost their parents.
The daughters were called out and they were termed insensitive by social media. People were calling for a ban on this duo and their channel. Using your own dying father for views is despicable but they recorded everything and then shared it on their YouTube channel.
The duo has now come forward to defend their actions. They shared that their two brothers cannot work due to some reason. They are very poor and the only way they could afford to run their household and keep their father alive was through YouTube. Thus they documented everything. They also shared that they only got a few thousands from YouTube and they were not making millions.
The internet is not happy with their defense though. One user wrote, “Do your brothers have piles that they cannot work?” Another added, “Do not use this victim card. Many women are breadwinners for their households and they do it with dignity.” One said,”You cannot use your father’s death for making money.” Here is the reaction:
The Pakistani showbiz industry is blessed with stars who have been dazzling on our television screens for many years now. There are many female actresses in our drama industry whose daughters too are just as talented as them. The phrase that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree holds true for these talented daughters. Just like their mothers, their talent knows no bound. These celebrities have not only dedicated a good portion of their lives to entertain the viewers but now their daughters are also enthralling the viewers with their performances. All these mothers and daughters have earned the love and respect they get today and it isn’t because they are related to each other.
All of these beautiful and talented celebrity mothers have been seen supporting their daughters. Even though some of these celebrity mothers did not welcome the idea of their daughters joining showbiz initially but now that their daughters are in the field they are always seen side by side.

Family Vlogs have becme extremely popular in Pakistan. Many big YouTubers shifted to this format and earned millions by sharing their daily life. Ducky Bhai, Sistrology and Rajab Butt are a few examples of how people were able to amass a huge audience and earn millions of dollars through Vlogging. But this trend just brought in a disgusting video and people are flabbergasted.
A YouTube channel by the name of Ammara’s life shared a family Vlog about their father’s death. Two sisters were seen filming the last hours of their father’s life. They were constantly checking in with the audience as they were recording the most vulnerable moments of their father’s life. The Vlog is both disgusting and painful to watch.
This is the family Vlog the sister’s shared:
This has once again started a debate on family Vlogging and people are horrified. One person wrote, “Tit for tat. Their own kids will also do the same with them.” Another added, “The government should regulate such content.” One said, “This is why we have so many calamities in Pakistan.” Here is the reaction from the public’s side:
Robbery and street crime have become pretty common in Pakistan. The crimes have been rising not only in large, metropolitan cities but also in smaller cities due to rising inflation and no job opportunities. Many have lost their lives in these crimes but a recent robbery-attempt is going viral due to an innocent victim who was not even supposed to be there.
In a recent robbery case, a man with a gun came inside a shop and started hitting a shopkeeper who was sitting there with his little daughter. While he was asking for money and hitting the shopkeeper, the shopkeeper’s little girl offered him her own lollipop. This innocent gesture shook the robber. He left all the money and went away ter kissing the child’s head. The shopkeeper hugged his daughter who saved him.
The internet is divided over the video. Some people are sympathizing with the robber and think that he might be doing this for his own children thus he could not bear robbing a child. While others are grateful that the child and her father are safe. One user wrote, “People are suppressed. This man must have been doing this for his own children. His gesture showed his love towards daughters. This is heartbreaking.” Another added, “May Allah protect this little angel.” One said, “Daughters are a blessing. This is another example.” A confused person asked, “Should I be feeling bad for the robber or not. This is confusing.” This was the reaction:
Divorce is not an easy thing to go through. Only those who have gone through it understand the pain and gravity of it. Pakistan is a country where divorce despite being Halal is demonized. Even if a couple is in so much pain and they are going through the worst of times, they are pushed to remain together. The divorce rate is increasing now as more women are finding their voice.
Recently, a girl named Feeya shared how her mother has just gotten divorced after 30 years of marriage. She was in a toxic relationship and when she finally got divorced, the family celebrated it with a cake and dinner. The woman is now happy as she is finally free. The daughter shared this celebration with the world.
The Internet has a lot to say after this post went viral. Many people appreciated how the family is celebrating the end to toxicity while others think that it should not have been celebrated as divorce is considered the most unliked among Halal things by Allah. One said, “It is good to celebrate when you come out of a painful situation.” One thought, “It is wrong to celebrate divorce and put it on social media, whatever was the reason behind it.” Another added, “I do not agree with celebrating divorce but I cannot judge someone else’s pain.” Here is the reaction:
After all of this Feeya clarified that her father had left her mother 10 years ago after abuse, gun pointing and what not. Thus her coming out of it is a win for sure. This also clarifies why she was not observing Iddat:

Ayesha Ali Butt was on Wasi Shah’s show and she revealed the impact losing her mother in law and her mother had on her. She said that she lost both mothers within two years. She was loved by both and she shared that losing Zil e Huma made her realize how mortal we are. Despite having everything, you cannot fight pain and disease. She was reminded of how short life is as her mother-in-law died at a relatively young age.
This is what she said:
She also shared Zil e Huma’s last moments. She had to get her leg amputated due to gangrene. She was in a lot of pain and she kept saying to Ayesha that Ayesha’s mother who was her friend had not come to see her and she would be passing away soon. Turned out it became true and she could not live after amputation.

Fans appreciated the makers for giving subtle lessons through their story, however, a few fans were of the view that the drama could have been shorter. A fan wrote, “I love this new Saif, especially because he kept his son’s name. Seeing the three of them holding hands is simply beautiful. A perfect family” Another one said, “It’s shocking to see Saif in jail, but what’s even more surprising was that Kiran forgave him. Everything that happened in the last episode was something I didn’t expect.” A fan stated, “What an excellent drama. I must say I watched it from the start till ending. Sohai Ali Abro and Ali raza nailed it. Favourite drama with beautiful message” A fan wrote, “Finally. It ended, it could have ended earlier as well. They dragged it unnecessarily but there were some good messages in it.” Read the comments:
Dastak is an important drama which is showcasing the problems faced by single mothers and divorcees in our society. Sohai Ali Abro, Ali Raza, Momina Iqbal and Feroz Kadri play the lead roles in the show. Everyone has done a fabulous job and we are moving towards the climax now. The drama is showing how a mother with a child from a previous marriage is not accepted by new in-laws and how the child can be mistreated.
Kiran is now at Moiz’s house as his mother has been diagnosed with cancer. Her father-in-law Firoz played by Shamoon Abbasi is not fond of her son Shani and did not want to have him in his house. He is now bullying and mistreating the child and Dastak fans have a lot to say about this development.
Here is what Firoz is doing to Shani:
The internet is calling out Firoz for being a monster. One user wrote, “Firoz is the biggest monster himself.” Another added, “This is the harsh reality that new in-laws never accept the child from a previous marriage.” A fan said, “How selfish is Firoz. He is not thinking of his sick wife rather he is busy bullying a child.” This is what the Dastak fans think:
Dastak is a drama that is quite underrated for the topic that it has touched upon. The forced marriage of children and how it can destroy generations is realistically shown in the drama. Ali Raza and Sohai Ali Abro play the lead roles Moiz and Kiran while Feroz Kadri as Saif and Laila Wasti as Moiz’s mother are also being loved by the fans. All the actors have given their 100% in the show and fans have been loving the realistic portrayal.
The show Dastak is moving towards as harsh twist a Moiz’s mother played by Laila Wasti has been diagnosed with cancer. She is a very positive character and she supported her son. Meanwhile Saif is trying to get custody of his son. The way Sohai Ali Abro and Ali Raza have performed their characters in these circumstances has been phenomenal. The Turkish historical TV drama Dirilis Ertugrul has been all the rage in Pakistan since the state broadcaster began airing a dubbed version in April. This is not the first Turkish drama to have become popular in Pakistan, but what is different about Ertugrul, often described as the Muslim Game of Thrones is that it’s being promoted by Prime Minister Imran Khan, for reasons thought to be both personal and political.
If there’s one star in Pakistan whose popularity currently rivals that of Mahira Khan, it has to be Esra Bilgic, better known by her screen name Halime Sultan from the Turkish TV series Dirili: Ertugrul. She got a lot of fan following in Pakistan. Today, Esra Bilgic is a part of major ad campaigns in Pakistan.
Recently a Pakistani brand “Dastaan” launched their collection inspired from Halime sultan featuring Hina Afridi.
Pakistani fans are inspired by the exquisite representation of Halime Sultan in Ertugrul. So the Pakistani Brand Dastaan decided to introduce the collection inspied by Halime’s dressing.

In this episode, Aliya made her entry into Raheel’s house but before stepping into his house as a nanny to his kids, she had to have a good impression. Aliya can go to any limits to get revenge from Raheel. I do understand that she and her family have gone through a lot and Raheel not only ruined Farishtay’s life but the whole family but the question is ‘Is it justified for her to get revenge?’ In my opinion, it is not justified for her to get revenge because panchon ungliyaan barabar nahin hoti. She herself has seen how one feels when a family gets ruined yet she’s doing what happened to her family to another family. I know that she’s ruining the family of the person who ruined her family but she still shouldn’t do that and wait for Allah to get back to Raheel.
Nida tells Raheel about the famous baba and tells him that she wants to get her palm read by him. Raheel tells her that he doesn’t want to go but Nida still takes him with her. The baba telling her that her happiness is not going to stay long is a reflection of what is going to happen in the future. I myself do not believe in palm reading and the baba was telling her to spend more in Allah’s way yet he doesn’t know that palm reading is a sin. Nida also has a nightmare that night and this again is a reflection of what is going to happen in the future.
Aliya goes sees Hassan(Raheel’s son) in the school and gives him chocolate. Haniya(Raheel’s daughter) sees Aliya giving Hassan chocolate so she calls him. Aliya tells Aafaq(we still don’t know how he is related to Aliya) to kidnap Hassan and Aafaq does so very smartly. He takes Hassan to the play land and to the mall while a worried Raheel and Nida try to find their lost son.
Aliya takes Hassan home at night and becomes a farishta for Nida and her family. She introduces herself as Alina and tells Nida that she’s alone and has come to Karachi to search for a job. Nida thinks that Aliya would be the perfect caretaker of her kids. The next day Aliya goes to her house for the job and Nida is surprised to see her. She tells Raheel to guess who she is and Raheel says he knows who she is. Aliya gets worried thinking that Raheel has recognized her even after 15 years.
Overall, the episode was interesting and entertaining. Everyone acted really well including the child artists. The promo for the next episode seems interesting because Haniya tells her parents that her(Aliya’s) name is not Alina and she saw her giving chocolate to Hassan in school. Let’s see how Haniya finds out that Alina is not Aliya’s real name and if her parents believe her. Can’t wait for the next episode!
This episode was not as fast paced as the last one but it was still good and kept me hooked. The drama just keeps on getting more interesting. Farishtay’s unfortunate past is finally revealed. Raheel did not marry Farishtay because he doesn’t trust her. Just because he saw Farishtay talking to her neighbor, Raheel left her. The neighbor was actually apologizing for his behavior but things didn’t go well. Raheel insulted Farishtay in front of everyone. He had no right to do so. If he’s really that conservative, why did he take Farishtay out for lunch? Why didn’t he wait for just 3 more days and take her out after marriage?
I absolutely hated the neighbor’s talk. One says she already had an affair with someone and the other says he saw her with guys a lot of time. Seriously? The landlord getting into the house with a bunch of guys, doing a lot of damage and threatening them to leave the house or else they’ll burn Farishtay alive was as out of fire in frying pan. This is unbelievable! Farishtay hasn’t even done anything and yet the whole family has to suffer for something they never did! This is just sick!
Farishtay had gone to her best friend, Mehwish, with some hope but Mehwish is helpless as well! I felt bad how Mehwish’s husband was forcing her not to meet or help Farishtay.
One thing I still don’t understand is how is Qaiser Naqvi related to Aliya? Aliya calls her khala but is she her real khala or not? Aliya left in Mehran but reached the mental hospital in a Corolla. I think the director needs to be extra careful!
Farishtay’s mother couldn’t tolerate any more and so she passed away. They had already suffered a lot. I actually thought that Farishtay died but Farishtay is still alive. I felt so sad for Farishtay. She hasn’t even done anything and yet she has to suffer for something she hasn’t done. Her mental state is not normal anymore. She doesn’t even recognize Aliya and she is still in her past. She still thinks she’s getting married to Raheel!
Aliya’s hatred for Raheel just keeps on increasing and she desperately wants a revenge! Raheel is leading a happy life with Nida and two adorable kids. Raheel doesn’t know but Aliya has been stalking him.
Nida giving ad for the helper in the newspaper was exactly what Aliya needed to get into their lives and take revenge. Aliya has seen that ad in the newspaper and she has planned everything. Who was that guy who asked Aliya in the end what she wants to do now and she said barbaad. He took Aliya to Farishtay as well.
I think that the writer hasn’t been good in introducing some other characters. Overall, it was a good episode! All the actors acted really well! The direction was good as well. I can’t wait for the next episode! Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
One thing that I loved about this episode was that it was fast paced. The first episode was not that fast paced but this one was really fast paced which keeps my interest in the serial.
“Larkiyaan bhi kitni ajeeb hoti hain. Bare bare khwabon ko apni muthi main band karna chahti hain lekin jab muthi kholti hain to khalipan ke siwa kuch nahi hota.”
Syra Yousuf’s dialogue delivery has gotten so well! I loved this dialogue!
I was surprised to see Raheel’s mother agree so fast to meet Farishtay. I mean she’s telling Raheel that Farishtay is inferior to him and she has already asked for Nida’s hand but she agrees to meet Farishtay so fast.
“Qismat ki lakiron ki siyahi ko kaun mita sakta hai?”
I totally agree with this dialogue!
I loved Aliya’s and Farishtay’s cute little argument over what dress Farishtay should wear when Raheel and his mother come for Farishtay’s proposal.
Farishtay’s refusal to marry Raheel was very surprising for me. She didn’t even give any explanations to Raheel and his mother and just left. It looked very disrespectful!
Raheel takes a step to ask Farishtay the reason for her refusal and she tells him that she has a lot of responsibilities and she doesn’t want to share them with anyone. Raheel meeting with an accident was another unexpected twist.
Farishtay realizes her mistake and decides to call Raheel. One thing I didn’t understand was how did she have Raheel’s number? She finds out about Raheel’s accident and leaves. She didn’t even tell her mom that she’s leaving. Aliya was trying to ask her where she’s going and why she looks worried but she just kept on running. Another thing that surprised me was that she wasn’t wearing a dupatta.
She breaks down on seeing Raheel (even though he has no injuries) and hugs him which was pretty unexpected.
“Yeh aarzi sahara nahi chahye!”
“Main rah kabhi nahi badloon gi, Raheel.”
When Raheel drops Farishtay home there is this guy standing next to Farishtay’s door. Raheel asks Farishtay who he is and Farishtay says she doesn’t know. He looks very creepy!
I think that the marriage is taking place to early!
It was funny how Raheel came on the mayoon, his face hidden in a dupatta and sat next to Farishtay. When he unveiled his face, everyone got surprised. His mother tells him to go and he goes after making Farishtay eat sweet with his hand. That was sweet! :) This is my favorite scene from the episode.
It was cute how Raheel wished Farishtay birthday. They make a cute couple.
I can’t believe that Raheel suspected Farishtay when that creepy guy threw that letter. I was definitely surprised to see Raheel’s mother taking Farishtay’s side and telling him that maybe he’s wrong. I thought she would be like ‘I told you before that you should marry Nida’ or something like that. She tells Raheel that Farishtay can’t do that but Raheel wouldn’t marry Farishtay until he knows the “truth”. The episode ends with Farishay being heartbroken and Raheel comes to talk to her.
Overall, it was a good episode, full of surprises and twists. The acting, direction, background music and everything was good. I loved the episode!
Will Raheel find out the truth? Will he marry Farishtay? Can’t wait to see what happens next! Share your views guys!
The reason that I had been waiting for this play was because of its cast. This is Syra Yousuf’s first play after her marriage and we all know that Adnan Siddiqui and Sania Saeed are phenomenal actors. Another thing that attracted me towards this play was that the sisters really love each other and not rival each other like all the other sisters in Pakistani dramas these days. This came as a breath of fresh air for me! In today’s episode we got introduced to Aliya(Syra Yousuf), Farishtay(Javeria Abbasi) and Raheel(Adnan Siddiqui). Unfortunately we didn’t get to see Nida(Sania Saeed) but the episode was still good.
The episode starts with Aliya going to the graveyard to visit her late sister, Faishtay’s tomb. Aliya is really lonely and she really misses Farishtay. She lives alone in the house where she has spent her childhood with Farishtay. Later on, Aliya goes into a flashback and we find out that Aliya and Farishtay are half sisters. Their father and Aliya’s mother are no more in this world. Aliya doesn’t know that Farishtay and her are half sisters. Farishtay has always treated Aliya like her real sister. Farishtay is a beautician. Her mother wants her to get married but she wouldn’t until Aliya becomes independent. Her mother thinks Aliya is jinxed and blames Aliya for her parents’ death and Farishtay’s refusal for marriage. It’s so sad how people call each other jinxed. Farishtay and her mom are unaware that Aliya is listening to their conversation. Aliya tries to commit suicide by eating sleeping pills but Farishtay sees her and stops her. The mother becomes embarrassed and tells Aliya how much she loves her. This scene was heartbreaking! Aliya makes Farishtay promise that she would get married and Aliya too promises that she wouldn’t do anything like that again.
The dialogue that stood out to me the most from this episode was:
“Kabhi Kabhi koi pal insaan ki poori Zindagi badal deta hai, Khala. Aur woh raat bhi kuch aisi hi thi.”
The dialogue is beautifully said by Syra Yousuf and it just makes me wonder about what would have happened that night. She says this dialogue when she goes into a flashback of Farishtay going to her friend’s engagement. That was the night she met Raheel. Raheel falls in love with Farishtay at the first sight. Farishtay’s freind gives her her gold earrings to wear for the night and Farishtay loses one of the earrings by mistake. She starts crying and Raheel sees her. Raheel finds the earring and tells her, “In ankhon mein ansoon ache nahi lagte.” This scene was absolutely lovely. Raheel and Farishtay look really cute. Raheel then drops Farishtay home because it was really late.
Raheel’s mother is trying to convince him to get married to Nida but he doesn’t want to marry her. The episode ends with Raheel telling his friend that he wants to marry Farishtay not Nida. It seems like Farishtay too likes Raheel because she was thinking about him when she was in her saloon.
Overall, it was a good start. Syra Yousuf just keeps on getting better! Adnan Siddiqui and Javeria Abbasi did justice to their roles. The direction was really good too! I can’t wait to see what happens next! Will Raheel tell Farishtay about his feelings? How will Farishtay react? Will Raheel’s mom force him to marry Nida? Stay tuned to see what happens! Can’t wait for the next episode.
A Pakistani short film directed by Saim Sadiq ’Darling’ has become the first to win an award at the Venice Film Festival.
The film is about a young boy and a Lahore-based transgirl. Darling is also the first Pakistani film to make the cut for one of the Big three film festivals: Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.
A 28-year-old young Saim Sadiq, during an interview, said he sent the film during the open submission call with zero expectations that it would be chosen. Through luck or something, they won the award.
Congratulations Saim Sadiq. Pakistan is proud of you.
Trans Alina shared her gut-wrenching story in an interview.
The Pakistani short film ‘Darling’ just won the Orizzonti best short film award at the Venice Film Festival. Darling is a movie with a trans character at the center, played by Alina, who is a khawajasira, the film explores notions of femininity and masculinity in Pakistan.
In this podcast, the host discusses why it was important to cast a trans character to play the trans role, how the movie came to be and Alina shares her gut-wrenching personal experiences.
Alina shared her journey and said, “I used to get hurt when people called me with bad names but now I accept my gender. I simply ignore all the hate because people never stop talking about you.”
Alina’s first experience of doing movie, Darling:
When I was first offered this movie,” I was super confused about how I am going to represent myself and my gender but Saim (the film producer) and Sana guided me a lot, I felt like I am working with my people.”
Alina further talked about how she was mocked by society and even her own family, “My brother sometimes didn’t open the door of the home for me for like the whole night and I used to keep on knocking the door. Eventually, I spent nights on the road.”
“When I put a status on Whatsapp about my movie, my brother messaged me to ask about what kind of role I am playing in it? I couldn’t tell him about my role because I was ashamed of telling him that the story is about a trans person who is me. When I got an award, I shared the news on my Whatsapp. My brother messaged me and asked the same question again, I replied that ‘the movie is based on my life‘, Alina shared.
Here’s Alina’s heart-wrenching interview with Shehzad Ghias Shaikh:
Pakistani Youtubers have become top entertainers of the country in the past decade. They have put out content in several genres and they have taken over a lot of space from mainstream celebrities. Many YouTubers have transitioned to mainstream and they have also been a part of dramas on national television. The discourse surrounding them is always divided into two parts; with one supporting them and the other against.
The success on YouTube brings big money and especially at a younger age, not many are able to handle it. There are several stories of young Pakistani YouTubers going out of hand at the peak of their success and they fell from grace due to the controversies that should have been avoided at all costs. Here are some famous Pakistani YouTubers who took some stupid decisions while they were very popular with the masses:
Rajab Butt
Rajab Butt tried to make a career in acting and he also performed in a drama alongside Babar Ali and Kinza Hashmi. Things did not work out for him, and he later on joined YouTube as a family Vlogger. The genre became a gold mine for this young Pakistani YouTuber, who has been amassing millions of views and has become the top family Vlogger of the country.
This is where his journey with controversies also started. He has a feud with so many fellow content creators, with things turning ugly and fist fights happening in the open. He has been arrested for receiving a lion cub and his on-screen behaviour with his mother and wife is also judged by many people. Rajab Butt recently launched a perfume with the name of 295 and his lack of research has made him flee the country. Many religious parties are after him, and he unknowingly got himself into a case which never even gets proper defense in Pakistan. Tan Man Neelo Neel, the recent drama, clearly showed the repercussions of being caught in such a case and is an example of how one should be responsible. Rajab Butt who was the top YouTuber a week ago has made so many enemies and haters over night, all because of the irresponsible chance he took at fame.
Ducky Bhai
Ducky Bhai started his YouTube journey with gaming and roasting content. He used to make roasts of popular YouTubers of his time. He was a young kid, and his feud with the then-biggest Pakistani YouTuber, Sham Idrees, made him an overnight star. Everyone suddenly knew who Ducky Bhai was, and with time, he kept evolving. He has given many statements over the years about including your family in content but with time, he ended up doing all those things himself. He has also been involved in various controversies, such as conflicts with colleagues like the Badla Brothers and disparaging those with degrees.
Sham Idrees
Sham Idrees is a Pakistani YouTuber hailing from Canada who ruled the Pakistani YouTube scene in the 2014-2017 era. His prank videos with his wife Queen Froggy were loved by millions when he got into a feud with Ducky Bhai, who was not yet a big name back then. As a big name in the community, Sham could have ignored Ducky and moved on, but their fights kept growing, and consequently, a hater army arose for the YouTuber who had to go through a really hard time then. He still makes content, but he is not as active as he used to be back in the day.
Nadir Ali
Nadir Ali is among the OG Pakistani YouTubers. He started with the prank videos, and he has worked hard over the years to create an audience for himself. His content has also evolved and now he is considered among the top podcasters in the country. He has interviewed many people in and out of Pakistan, but he keeps getting into unnecessary controversies, and many people who generally loved him were put off by his content. Nadir Ali has faced public criticism for his invasive and, at times, inappropriate line of questioning. His treatment of Saba Faisal, especially after her family experienced a significant controversy, raised eyebrows. Additionally, his question about Sunita Marshall’s religious conversion prompted several prominent stars to call him out.
Conclusion
YouTube was banned in Pakistan for an extended period, causing us to begin our journey on the platform later than many other countries. This put us at a disadvantage, as many basic guidelines surrounding content creation were not immediately understood by creators. However, Pakistanis have a natural talent for quickly adapting and learning, and they did just that. The platform has since evolved into a profitable venture, and because it is not regulated by Pakistani authorities, the business remains sustainable. This has led to the rise of many stars from the platform. These creators need to understand how far they can push their content and when it might be best to hold back. In many cases, Pakistani laws and authorities impose excessive censorship, and irresponsible content can put these creators in difficult situations.
Realization is required that after reaching a certain level of fame, you need to sustain it through quality work rather than relying on viral content, which may ultimately have negative consequences.
