Ushna Shah a Pakistani actress who has been in fame since the very beginning of her career. She made her acting debut in the year 2012. However, in 2014 she was recognized as one of the leading actresses of the Pakistan media industry when she performed as the leading character in the drama “Bashar Momin”. Her prominence and versatile acting skills made her a niche actress in the industry and she has made fabulous acting standards in different drama serials. She is the daughter of actress Ismat Tahira and the sister of Irsa Ghazal both famous actors in the drama industry. Ushna is also very keen on her fitness and had been a part of many videos promoting a healthy lifestyle and home gym techniques for ladies. Many Pakistani films have come out this year but many didn’t live up to the expectations. Only financial success was Mehrunisa V Lub U. Recently two films which were to come out were postponed including Project Ghazi due to technical issues and and Chain Aaye Na for getting a lot of backlash on its trailer. Now release date for another movie is announced.
Rangreza will be releasing on 21st December 2017. Gohar Rasheed announced the date on his Instagram.
As Arth-the destination is also coming out in December this year; we may see a competition in both movies. December will indeed be a good month for Pakistan film industry. Who will turn out as the winner? Only time will tell!
There are many techniques which the writers use to take the plot forward and to make the viewers more interested in the story. Back in the day, our writers used to rely on heart attacks or accidents to change the course of events in the drama but it seems they are so over those tactics that they now believe in wiping the character off the drama’s page to add substance in their story. The technique that is quite popular with our drama writers these days is killing the main character or any character which the viewers love more than others, which might take the story forward but it leaves the viewers depressed. Such a death can be shocking when the viewers didn’t see it coming and many times it does take the plot forward in a good direction.
Sometimes the drama ends with the death of such a character, while some of these endings become truly unforgettable others might leave the viewers feeling frustrated because the given character could have been given a better ending. There was a time when Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was known for such endings and most often his endings made sense and had an impact on the viewers but it looks like everyone has picked on that detail and is now writing the same fate for their characters. Lately, some of the deaths in our dramas made absolutely no sense and made the viewers wonder why the writers chose to kill these characters.
The way Ayra’s character in drama serial Khudgarz was recently killed was a classic example of a bad ending to a character which had a great deal to offer. While Junaid’s death could have helped in many ways in driving the plot forward in an altogether different direction, Ayra’s death served no purpose at all. It was the kind of ending which makes you wonder if Aamina Sheikh had other commitments or the writer ran out of ideas to get the attention of the viewers. This death was especially upsetting because overall Khudgarz had a solid plot which is why the viewers had huge expectations from it. With Ayra alive, Hassan’s character could have had the opportunity to redeem itself and the viewers would have liked watching how these two people with such a bitter history eventually came closer to each other. Hassan might still raise Ayra and Junaid’s child but the fact remains that Ayra’s death was not needed, at least not at this time. Killing two main characters back to back seems like a desperate attempt to get the attention of the viewers but it completely ruined the overall feel of the play which promised a positive growth in characters.
In drama serial Qurban, the entire time it was suggested that it was Heer who had to sacrifice everything to save the honor and pride of her family but just when the drama was nearing its end, Jamal, the main lead was killed. It became quite evident that since the writer couldn’t undo the Nikkah on Nikkah scenario, he decided to kill Jamal’s character to save Heer from going back to him, which was the ending that most of the viewers would have preferred because it was the drama that started of using Heer and Jamal’s love story as the main theme. To see a 2nd lead Shahmeer take Heer in the end and Heer happily settling for Shahmeer while forgetting the love of her life defied the purpose of the drama which was supposed to be a love story. It imparted a message that you can get nikkaofied to the love of your life by going against your parents’ wishes and if that guy dies, you can quickly forget his love and stay married to the guy your parents chose for you.
Hamza’s character was the best part about Aisi Hai Tanhai, he depicted what a true love is and how far someone can go in order to punish himself for the sake of the one he truly loved but his character was killed by the writer just like that and made the ending unsatisfactory. When Pakeeza was coming out of the most tragic phase and when Hamza could walk with her for the rest of her life, the writer chose to kill him making us feel that Hamza was basically used as a scapegoat to take the blame for a mistake that Pakeeza in her senses committed. In the end, Pakeeza was shown to be running a self defence academy for girls, which made us wonder how nice it would’ve been if Hamza would’ve been there with her as well.
Pukaar is another drama which started off as a love story gone wrong where Fahad Sultan was killed only because his father wanted him to contest in the elections. Ever since, the drama has taken a depressing turn and it is all about Samra’s ordeals after her husband’s death.
Another one of Hum Tv’s drama written by actor Imran Ashraf is Tabeer where Tabeer’s husband Yasir and Fawad’s wife Zarnish have passed away. This drama has again started off on such a depressing note that you just don’t feel the urge to tune to it to see how the living ones are coping with the deaths of their spouses.
Most of these dramas with a high death toll aired on ARY Digital which makes us wonder if the channel authorities feel that killing the characters will get them more ratings/publicity. We are all for tragic plot twists and sad endings but it should be done logically. When the writers kill characters which viewers like in this manner, the viewers feel cheated therefore all the writers out there who think the only way to make a character unforgettable is by killing it should know that they are seriously mistaken.
How many of you feel this way? Do share your thoughts about it.
Tabdeeli nahi aye gi! Kabhi nahi ayegi! (Relax I’m talking about TV shows) :P
While a tabdeeli is on the verge of happening in the politics of Pakistan, the drama makers are doing their level best that no tabdeeli reaches us through dramas. Same old ghisse pite topics are being repeated again and again.
The only watchable dramas recently are Shanakht, Firaaq and Jackson Heights.
After the success of Pakistani dramas in India, I feel proud and nervous at the same time. Proud because I love to see my country shine and nervous because ,I know, being a regular viewer of Pakistani dramas, that India has only seen our best.
I know we have written articles calling for diversity, but the call was unheard and being a drama lover, I don’t want the quality of Pakistani dramas to drop further. So, scroll down, read these ideas and tell me what you think about them
1. There are issues other than women issues and ghareloo-ism :
Trust me, there are! It’s not like women are the only oppressed makhlooq in this country. Men also face problems and we have all seen how amazing dramas like Pyaray Afzal and Laa were. Their male characters were men and we were spared a lot of rona dhona and other crap because of this. An important thing, in these dramas, women were shown strong. (Laila, Farah, Lubna, Yasmeen, Arfa, Ruqayya)
Ghareloo maslon se aage bhi soch lia karo!
2. Difference won’t hurt!
It won’t! trust me! Crime shows would be unparalleled hits if executed properly. Mystery dramas would rock and horror shows (if executed properly) would introduce new dimensions in drama making. Even university based dramas, if they deal with issues like bullying and aren’t just love stories, will be loved by many people.
3. After a blockbuster drama, get working on another one quick!
After Pyaray Afzal, no other drama made by ARY even qualifies to be called “good”. This shows Pyaray Afzal ghalti se ban gaya! Ab kabhi koi acha drama nahi bane ga!
4. Don’t make people beg for good dramas!
Don’t torture your viewers! Give them something to look forward to. Avoid those “filler dramas” which give us the creeps.
So readers, what did you think of this article? Before leaving, fill out my questionnaire please:
1. Which type of shows would you like to see?
2. Are you also a wisher of these different dramas?
Ever since Pakistani drama industry has gotten back on it’s feet our drama writers are following the same set of rules in each and every drama. The story petty much revolves around a young girl who is facing all sorts of troubles. This is referred to as the infamous ‘mazloom aurat’ storyline. In these dramas the women literally start crying after every 10 minutes.
In these dramas women are made to endure all sorts of physical, mental and emotional abuse. They are slapped, shoved and even kicked around on screen in front of millions of viewers that includes women, men and children of impressionable age. In a country where women already face high levels of domestic abuse it is highly condemnable that our writers and directors instead of working to change this mindset are actively promoting it! I mean seriously what kind of message are you sending out there? That it is OK to abuse women. I know husbands who frequently abuse their wives who are avid watchers of these shows. One such despicable being was a regular watcher of Geo’s infamous ‘kalmoohi’ a show which was created to make the life of the heroine as tragic as possible. However kalmoohi was not unique. Drama after drama brought forward such kind of eternally crying women with Mawra hocane, Sumbl Iqbal, Ayeza khan crying at each possible instance Ad nauseam.
I once read an interview of Faseeh bari khan where he said his producers asked him to add violence against women saying that this will boost TRP’s. He even stated how producers are even stooping so low as to have writers write scenes where women’s heads are shaved! (aurat ko ganja kerna saza ke liye). This is a new low even for our producers.
What is most disturbing in these dramas are how frequently women are being shown as being sexually abused. This is followed not by women overcoming this incident or bringing the perpetrator to justice but are shown as being helpless, constantly crying and being blamed by the society for loosing their ‘honor’. Chup Raho is a recent example which reached a new low in all these categories. Here the lead actor Rameen was abused physically and emotionally. What was worse was how they showed these things repeatedly and how her tormentors escaped justice and were only punished in a ridiculous and totally unrealistic way.
What really shocks me is how many of these serials are written by WOMEN themselves. Either these ladies have no sense of right and wrong or they are self-hating women. Women who hate their own gender and keep degrading other women for the delight of millions. Or maybe these women are actually men writing under a female name! LOL
The impact of these dramas can be judged by the fact that domestic abuse rather then being something to be ashamed of is being accepted in mainstream society with even educated people arguing that it is permitted to hit women if they misbehave or disobey! Some people might say I’m exaggerating but it is sadly the truth. But what is even sadder that we are not doing any thing to change this mindset.
In these serials Women are shown as fragile dolls who must seek the protection of men or are stubborn women who get what is coming to them. It seems there are no normal women in these dramas. Every women is either a vamp or an angel!
Every entertainment channel airs these kinds of dramas with currently Geo leading this trend with ARY on a close second position. These channel rather then bringing forth quality entertainment are churning out such rubbish. It is time to send a clear message to these drama writers and producers. Stop exploiting women!

Madiha Imam has managed to sink teeth into most of the roles she has done and ‘Dear Maya’ is no different. Her Bollywood debut film Dear Maya hit the theaters on June 1st and received positive reviews from the critics but opened slow at the box office.
Dear Maya got a low opening at the box office India, and managed to grab only Rs. 1.2 crores on Friday. According to Indian trade analysts, the film can perform better at the box office in coming days. However, the fate of Dear Maya is still uncertain.
Dear Maya follows the tale of a lonely woman who gets pranked by two teenagers, who make her believe that she has a secret long lost admirer! It is directed and written by Sunaina Bhatnagar and produced by Sandeep Leyzell starring Manisha Koirala, Madiha Imam and Shreya Chaudhary in the lead roles.
Following Mawra Hocane, Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar, it is now time for Madiha Imam to shine her stardom in the colossal world of Bollywood. Her movie Dear Maya, was already celebrated before its release since it featured the much awaited come-back of Manisha Koirala after a long hiatus.
The movie was generally commended as a pleaser by the viewers who claimed that the script had a soft look to it, unlike the many usual movies that are produced and screened in the cinema during the present times. Although several critics preeminently noted that it was refreshing to see Manisha again after some time, they approved of Madiha’s acting just as much, (who had a much longer on-screen time as compared to the latter), reviewing her performance to be well done in accordance with the role she was assigned. She was commended to have a ‘natural onscreen performance’ and a ‘charming aura’ that made up for the well-written, yet padded and elongated story-line; apparently the plot is much too simple to have been stretched in the time of 2 hours and 11 minutes.
Nevertheless, it has been declared as a must-watch especially for audiences who prefer the genre of drama and emotion twisted in intrigue and suspense.
There are yet to be reviews taken in in order to determine how well it has performed within the Pakistani audience.
All in all, it is evident that yet another Pakistani actress has been accepted within the circle of these acclaimed cinematic critics and made her signature in Bollywood.

Dayan is a popular Pakistani prime-time drama serial which aired on Geo TV, every Monday and Tuesday. The drama was written by Fatima Faizan and Amber Azhar and directed by Siraj Ul Haq, known for his drama serial Tere Bin. The show was produced by 7th Sky Entertainment and is considered one of the grand productions of Geo Entertainment. The star cast featured actors like Ahsan Khan, Hira Mani, Mehwish Hayat, Osama Tahir, Shamil Khan, Sohail Sameer, Zainab Qayyum, Afsheen Hayat, Nayyar Ejaz, and Nida Mumtaz. Each episode of the drama garners over 7 million view.
Tonight, Geo TV has aired last episode of drama serial Dayan. In the last episode Misha told Zawar truth about Nihal and Noori and also confessed killing his siblings as revenge after they killed and buried Noorie and Nihal. Misha forgave Zawar Shah for the sake of their child Hunain Shah. The drama ended on a Birthday scene of Hunain with his parents.
Dayan viewers are quite disappointed with the ending which according to them glorified a killer. Many were of the view that Nihal and her father were the main culprits who should have been in the jail instead of others. A few expressed sympathies with Shabab, saying, “Her only mistake was to allow her husband for a second marriage”. A viewer said, “What a dumb ending. One murder cannot justify so many murders in return. They are spreading the wrong message, the actor and the whole team.” One fan wrote, “Not a good ending, they didn’t do justice with Shabab” Another stated, “She is telling her story and crying but we are not at all feeling sad for her now”. Another wrote, “Maturity is when you realize Nihaal’s parents were the main culprits, not Zavar Shah and Shabab, because her father killed Hunain and mother sold her to her her alcoholic husband free.” One more commented, “Was it the first wife’s fault that she got him married to Nihal? How about the parents who arranged it? What kind of ending is this? Shabab wasn’t that bad… Nonsense… I hate Misha’s character.” However, a few viewers appreciated the happy ending. One fan wrote, “Very nice ending. I love the ending. Nihaal did right by forgiving Zawar because Zawar was not at fault; he loved her. Nice ending. Satisfied.” Read the comments:

So far, Geo TV has aired 44 episodes, and the drama is heading towards its conclusion. In the recent episodes, Zawar Shah proposes to Meesha and confronts Shabab for her misbehavior towards Nisha, who deliberately mentions in front of everyone that Meesha is nothing more than a servant in their house. Fans loved these two episodes and have started predicting the ending. Many have also shared their suggestions for Dayan’s final episode. Here are a few screenshots from recent episodes:
Social media users are deeply invested in Dayan’s storyline and are predicting regarding its ending. Many are sharing interesting opinions and suggestions. One fan wrote, “Zawar himself will throw Shabab out of his house.” Another commented, “I think Zawar knows about Misha.” A fan shared, “What’s happening with Shabab is absolutely right. When Zawar got married, Nihal was also his wife. She used to act very superior and arrogant. She’s just getting what she deserves now.” However, another fan expressed support for Shabab, saying, “I am with Shabab and I want Zawar to end up with her.” One viewer wrote, “Meesha should go and take revenge from her parents because they are the real villains, not Shabab.” Another fan predicted the ending, saying, “I think in the last episode, Misha (Nehal) will take her child and go to the doctor, and in the end, Zawar Shah and Shabab will be left with nothing” Read the comments:
Dayan is a drama that marked the comeback of Mehwish Hayat on television. It was a full filmy script with many big names attached to it. The show was all about murders and revenge. There have been many discussions about how Nehal became Mishna and all she went through. She was a weak girl who grew into a full scale vamp and made everyone pay for their sins.
Nehal turned into a Dayan and she killed off everyone. She got her son back and made everyone in Zawar Shah’s family pay for what they did to her. The only people she left were her parents. Her father first killed Hunain and then they sold her off to Zawar and Shabab. But even as Misha she let them go.
The internet is not happy. They want her to punish her parents. One viewer wrote, “Her father is a killer and needs to pay.” Another added, “Why is she not punishing the real culprits. Her parents.” One said, “Misha should have taken revenge from her greedy parents.” This was the reaction:

Who gives a knife to such an insane culprit”. A fan wrote, Zakia’s death was unfair. She was dragged into a situation like this because of Fouzia who got a clean chit. Another showed sympathies with Zawar saying, “Zawar was heartbroken and grieved over his sister’s death, now Shabab will not be forgiven by him”. Another fan said, “Afsheen Hayat performed really well in the drama as Zakia. She didn’t look like a new actor. Goodbye Zakia”. Many praised Ahsan Khan’s acting in the death scene of Zakia. Misha’s legs don’t bother viewers as much because feet don’t draw as much attention, but the neckline shouldn’t be so deep.” Another remarked, “Mr. Director, at least give Nihal a pajama. Let Pakistani dramas remain true to their identity. Focus on quality, not on shortening clothes.” Another commented, “Earlier, dramas used to feature longer shirts with trousers. Now the actresses don’t even wear trousers and if they wear, the bottom wears are almost invisible. These actors have forgotten their culture. The director seems to have lost all sense of honor.” A fan stated, “Hira Mani’s dress neckline is too deep and looks cheap.” One person wrote, “Hira, stupid girl, you should’ve worn a slightly higher neckline.” Read the comments:

Dayan is a drama airing on Geo TV. The show has big names like Mehwish Hayat, Ahsan Khan and Hira Mani but its overdramatic style and extra-filmy story is what is making it a hit with the audience. The show is going through the revenge plot now as Nihaal is back as Misha and she is now executing her plans with banger music playing in the background.
Shabab was poisoned by her sisters-in-law and Misha took this opportunity. She made a video while the poison was being mixed but still served the tea to Shabab. Shabab nearly died but she is now back and Misha has shared the “report” of poisoning with her. She went ballistic and got her sister-in-law Zakia arrested. Zawar Shah was not even able to save his sister.
The internet is loving what happened in Dayan and how illogical it was. Dayan survived everything despite her being the one who served that tea. People are also loving how Shabab is even more powerful than Zawar Shah himself. One user said, “Illogical script. Why is no one questioning Misha who made a video of the poisoning and still served that cup to Shabab.” Another added, “Misha is taking several targets down with one trick.” One said, “Zawar Shah cannot even stop the police from entering his house.” This is what they had to say:
