Hum TV is known for producing dramas with heart-touching stories and talented cast. “Dobara” is a 2021 drama serial which will air on Hum TV, directed by Danish Nawaz, written by Sarwat Nazir and produced under the banner of Momina Duraid Productions.
The drama stars Hadiqa Kiani and Bilal Abbas Khan as the main leads. Aside from Hadiqa and Bilal, ‘Dobara’s ensemble cast includes Naumaan Ijaz, Javed Sheikh, Shabir Jan, Nabeel Zuberi, Usama Khan, Sakina Samo, Zoya Nasir and new actress Maheen Siddiqui in her debut role.
The drama’s director Danish Nawaz confirms that ‘Dobara’ is giving out a social message. Hadiqa Kiani is portraying the role of an older woman who seemed to be in love with a much younger Bilal Abbas Khan. It seems like an unconventional story – possibly not the sort of romance that leaves you starry-eyed – but one that isn’t entirely impossible.
Danish further revealing that Bilal and Hadiqa get married in the drama. “There’s nothing cringey about it. It’s a story about relationships and caring. It’s not a heavy duty serious drama either. There are lighter moments and a lot of layers to the story courtesy a very varied cast,” he says. Talking about Javed Sheikh’s character Danish revealed that “Javed Sheikh’s character is very interesting. He adds some humor to the plot.”
Danish Nawaz further added that “I always want the dramas that I direct to be relatable to the audience. I am also very careful that I don’t hurt anyone’s sentiments. I want people to watch my dramas because they find them interesting, not because they get embroiled in controversy. Hopefully, people will like ‘Dobara’.” According to Danish, ‘Dobara’ is slotted to begin airing by mid-October this year.

Ohkay so, this episode of Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay further elaborated how problematic the situation was for everyone involved, with one side trying to find a solution & the other side creating more issues. There were some of the scenarios that barely made sense & were included only to explain the dynamics further which could’ve been easily avoided. I will however say that the preview of the next episode has definitely made me look forward to it quite eagerly because in this episode I did feel things were getting a tad bit monotonous but it seems that is going to change soon.
Aswad’s Betrayal
I really do not like Aswad’s character. It is mind-boggling that despite seeing what he is putting everyone through he fails to take any responsibility. He doesn’t want to own up to what he has done & how all these years, he led Mashal into believing that he really wanted to marry her. The only thing Aswad seems to be sorted about is his feelings for Saleha & how he can never go against her wish – he has a lot more clarity as far as his mother is concerned but when it comes to other equations, he is quite weak & problematic. It was a few episodes back when Aswad once told Saleha about Mashal & when she said she’d be happy to see him with Mehreen, he didn’t say anything to convince her. The way his mother was being treated & how Mashal’s family reacted was only because Aswad chose not to give Saleha any clarity about what it was between him & Mashal.
Aswad was seen repeating the same thing over & over again that he never led Mashal into believing that he was going to marry her, which makes him look like nothing but a coward. Another aspect that highlights this personality trait is how he is always loud & stern with Mehreen but when it comes to Mashal, he is seen stuttering. It is because he himself knows that he is guilty in front of Mashal but with Mehreen, he doesn’t mind showing her an attitude. The moment when Mashal came to confront him, Aswad not making an eye-contact & trying to look away further established the fact that he is well aware of what he has done, but he once again failed to take responsibility for it. Instead, he continued to guilt-trip Mashal that she was the one who mistook their friendship as something else. Aswad is being rude to Mehreen because he is also holding her responsible for this fiasco only because she accepted this proposal. It is funny that a mature man like Aswad is behaving like such a spoiled brat who can do nothing wrong & wants others to clean up the mess he has made.
Although Mashal is no saint, if we keep everything aside, in this entire situation she & her family were not wrong. Aswad gave Mashal enough reasons to believe that he was going to come, propose to her & get married to her, therefore her reaction was totally justified. It was sad seeing how helpless Mashal felt because the guy she had such high hopes for ended up betraying her trust & not only that, he was acting as if he was never involved emotionally. It was unfair that at this stage of her emotional & mental involvement, Aswad wanted her to see this relationship differently. Mashal was definitely wronged by Aswad & I can’t even begin to imagine how ugly things will get when his guilt will start creeping in!
Saleha has definitely been the most reasonable character in this entire narrative but in this episode, the way she continued to advocate that Aswad was only friends with Mashal was so wrong. It was like she was blatantly denying & refused to even think that there could be a possibility of such sort, that too when Aswad has spoken to her on these lines once before. Saleha on her own doesn’t want Aswad to get married to Mashal, that’s fine, but she shouldn’t have been so staunch about the idea that Aswad never made promises to her. It was like she was turning a blind eye to the fact that her son could also make mistakes & be wrong ever in his life. The way she covered up for him, although she herself has been kept in the dark makes it look like she is letting Aswad know that no matter what he does, she will always stand by him.
Saleha clearly knows what Mehreen goes through in Nani’s home. She also suggested that both Aswad & Mehreen should get married without the knowledge of the rest of the family members, therefore for her to send ‘shadi ki shopping’ with Mehreen absolutely made no sense. It was like she was alerting everyone herself that the wedding preps are in full swing & the date could be decided any day. Mehreen also knows quite well how Mashal likes to destroy her things, therefore she shouldn’t have brought her bridal stuff to this house. Yes, if she was trying to show it off to Mashal then that’s another story but what Mashal did was quite expected therefore it shouldn’t come as a surprise to Mehreen later.
The conversation between Mehreen & Mashal was probably one of the most interesting ones so far. Mehreen let Mashal know how she rolls & how she always wants what belongs to Mehreen. It was also as if she openly rubbed it to her face that this time around, she won’t be able to snatch Aswad away from her. The way Mehreen intimidated her, in the end, was also very interesting & both Mahira & Kubra Khan were outstanding. Mehreen did feel like backing out & she also knew about all the things her relatives will say after her & Aswad’s Nikkah but at this point, she has definitely made up her mind. Aswad’s poor behavior is also not concerning Mehreen at this stage because right now, she is just focused on the escape she is going to get after she’ll sign the Nikkah papers.
Convincing Performances
This episode was definitely interesting but I will say that things have started to seem a little monotonous, therefore I am glad with what I saw in the precap. Although Mashal was quite disturbed I don’t think she’ll do something irreversible. As far as I think, she’ll hurt herself only to frame Mehreen, but let’s see. It also can’t be ruled out what Mehreen might do because she too has such tendencies where she can hurt Mashal – she first hurt her emotionally so maybe she’ll do it physically too, who knows. In this episode, Usman Mukhtar’s acting was quite convincing especially when he was trying to avoid the eye-contact with Mashal. Aswad definitely is a weak character & Usman Mukhtar has portrayed that convincingly. Mahira Khan was brilliant too but in this episode, Kubra Khan stood out the most. She showed all the shades of Mashal’s character beautifully. All her emotions with so much clarity that despite knowing how negative she has been, you still feel for her, for what she is going through. I also like how they show some flashbacks from their childhood which actually explain the events that shaped up their personalities, be it Mashal or Mehreen. Ohkay so, this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 was quite happening. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that whatever they are showing is convincing or makes sense. It is disappointing and the fact is, with each passing episode, one thing gets clear that the story of Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 is mediocre along with very shallow characters. It won’t be wrong to say that it is mediocrity at its best that has been packaged in such a manner that makes it look grand, which it isn’t.
The Secret Is Out
In the previous review, I deliberately didn’t discuss Romana’s fever considering she was quite irrelevant but it seems she still has some purpose left & a score to settle. However, I won’t mince my words that seeing her character is off-putting. I remember when she was introduced, I wanted to know more about her but her story & character have stopped adding value to the story, so she still seems quite irrelevant. Sikandar was seen talking about Romana after weeks – this is actually what makes things look quite choppy in Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 that all of a sudden a character is seen interested in something which he or she was least bothered about. This approach makes it look like the director forgets about a certain situation & then as soon as he is reminded of the unfinished business, he gets back to it. There is no flow in the direction, which makes it all look very choppy & out of the blue!
Mahi wanted to meet Farhad & although she insists that she wants to send him back that is why she wants to see him – she is still in denial that it is only because she yearns for it. However, she is lucky to have Sahiba’s support because she happens to be the first one ready to serve this single purpose that she is here for the first place. I will however say that Mahi & Farhad’s meeting was definitely my favorite part of this episode, I wish they hadn’t really prolonged Mahi’s forlorn/crying face & stretched it so much. The audio seemed a bit too off with it being obvious that Mahi’s dialogues were later dubbed & added to the scene, which kind of ended up being quite distracting. However, props to both Iqra & Feroze for performing brilliantly in that scene. Farhad’s recitation of Punjabi poem was beautiful as well. I still found some of the dialogues problematic in this episode & the first one was Mahi wishing to be with Farhad in ‘agla jahan’. As far as they want to glorify the kind of love Farhad has for Mahi for the sake of drama, they have the right to do that but to literally play along such insinuations is definitely uncalled for. Anyhow, this was the first time Farhad found out that Mahi also loves him but unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one to witness this moment – the spy as well as Romana were around as well to ruin this moment for them.
Romana’s bitterness can be understood because all this while she saw Mahi as someone completely selfless for what she was doing & how she told Romana to walk out of Sikandar’s life. However, she couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that a ‘shurafa’ as she calls them, one of them could actually be deceptive to this extent that while being in love with Farhad, she ended up marrying someone else. I really thought for Farhad’s sake, Romana will once again keep this secret buried in her heart because this is all that she has been doing for so long but not anymore. Once again, her character will be used so that Mahi’s truth can be exposed in front of Jageerdarni but somehow it just doesn’t click as much as it should have.
Well well well, talking about everything that was wrong in this episode was the way Nazim Shah behaved. The slap on Sahiba’s face was just not needed & I can not believe why both the actors involved thought this was the right thing to do. Nazim’s aggression could’ve been channeled out in another way & there was strictly no need for him to slap his wife. I really don’t understand why Nazim was turning this into such a huge issue? Even if they have figured out everything, they need to analyze the entire situation before reacting to it so aggressively. Farhad fell in love with Mahi, he came to Bahawalpur for her, Mahi also fell in love with him but didn’t really realize it, she happily accepted Taimoor’s proposal knowing this is the kind of man her family wanted her to get married to, Taimoor got killed & Mahi became a widow – thanks to Nazim Shah. She completed her Iddat whereas Farhad went missing & never returned? How & why does it have to turn into such a huge ‘ghairat & izzat’ issue when even they as a family didn’t know about it for so so long with Mahi & Farhad keeping their feelings to themselves? It was actually amusing when Nazim started speaking about people finding out? Like seriously!
Another problematic dialogue came from Kazim Shah who blamed his ‘Peerni’ wife for not being able to take care of ‘aik beti’, whereas he himself has raised a son like Nazim Shah who easily gets people killed, slaps his wife & walks on the Earth arrogantly. Also, there is absolutely nothing ‘peer-like’ about this entire family, so not sure why were they introduced as such – probably to malign the reputation of such households who hold this title close to their hearts generation after generation & wear it as a badge of honor. Once again, I am sure it’s a forgotten aspect of the drama now but the peer gharana has not been observing ‘parda’ for weeks now. It is absolutely saddening that they used ‘hijab’ only for the show & reduced its meaning to nothing!
What’s Next
The preview of the next episode was definitely quite interesting. I am glad that after weeks of slow episodes, there is a lot happening in the drama now. I am wondering when W&D Dervish is going to make a comeback or will he ever return in order to save Farhad & turn all the hardships away from him. Or maybe they have sent him away to show that these are Farhad’s personal battles that he has to fight on his own. Iqra Aziz & Feroze Khan definitely deserve a round of applause for their phenomenal performances as Mahi & Farhad. I am glad there was a lot of normalcy in Mahi & Farhad’s conversation, it was as if they were still very much comfortable with each other & still spoke to one another like they did when they first met, as friends. As much as I am not a fan of Sahiba’s character, I still believe she did not deserve a slap merely because she knew about the feelings Mahi had for Farhad. I think seeing Romana’s courage, Sikandar will hide behind her dupatta & tell her to convince Jageerdarni for their marriage as well because he on his own can not do it. Go Romana! Also, I wonder how Jageerdarni is going to react now that a Majawar from her favorite & revered Mazaar is responsible for this entire situation, let’s see if her biases will allow Farhad to be with Mahi?
