Earlier we reported that Imran Abbas was in the US celebrating his birthday with his industry best friend Reema Khan but now he’s back in Pakistan. Brace yourself before we tell you what’s latest about this handsome actor. So it was initially said that Imran Abbas was doing Ram Leela. He had also said no to Aashiqui 2 which he also talked about in Sameen Peerzada’s show. He had also rejected a part in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Aishwarya Rai-Hrithik Roshan starrer Guzzarish. It was later played by Aditya Roy Kapoor.
But now according to Gulf News, what we hear is that Imran has been offered a new film Bollywood. It will be directed by Abhinav Shiv Tiwari. It is going to be an independent film. Although, Imran has not confirmed the news but there are chances that he may say no to this film as well due to the ban on Pakistani artists in India. We can only keep our fingers crossed.

Since taking the office, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has been trying his best to take the country out of this situation. Pakistani feature film Cake had a very different vibe overall. The film had a strong script, beautiful cinematography and some of the very best performances. The story of two sisters who are entangled in the web of this world and its complications, Cake since its release has made a mark with the audience and critics alike.
Cake has screened at several places and has been a favourite since its release. The new achievement came when Cake won the award for the Best Feature Film category at the South Asian Film Festival held in Montreal. Adding another feather in its cap, Cake has also been sent as a submission for Best Film In The Foreign Language category for Oscars. The final results will be out in January.
The other film that became the recipient of an award is Salam-The First Nobel Laureate. It is a documentary made on the life of Dr. Abdus Salam who is the first Pakistani to win an Oscar and that too in the category of Physics.

Karachi Se Lahore is a successful film franchise after Jawani Phir Nahin Ani and Na Maloom Afraad. It is funny and always manages to make bucks at the box office. The original cast starred Shahzad Sheikh, Ayesh Omer, Shahzad Sheikh, Javed Sheikh, Ahmed Ali Akbar, Yasir Hussain and Ashir Wajahat. The film successfully returned with the second installment featuring Saba Qamar oppossite Yasir Hussain in the lead roles.
It was announced sometime ago that the film would return with its third sequel called Karachi Se Lahore 3. Kubra Khan was to star opposite Farhan Saeed in the lead role. But we reported lately that Farhan Saeed has said no to the film. He said, “I would never want to commit to something I can’t give my full attention to.” Farhan is apparently busy with the concerts but here is the twist in the story. While Farhan says he has said no to the film, Wajahat Rauf has something else to say.
Wajahat has denied that Farhan was ever a part of the film. He said that the team was in talks but he was never finalized. Wajahat said “We are still searching for an actor for the role and will be announcing the complete cast in a few days time.” Our bad that we won’t be able to see Farhan in films anytime soon. Karachi Se Lahore was one of the first few films that kept the revival of Pakistani Cinema kept going. It was a sweet light-hearted film which was liked the by the people as well as critics. It told a story of a couple who realize their love for each other when they head from Karachi To Lahore. The second installment marked ace actor Saba Qamar’s debut into feature films. It told a story of Moti played by Yasir Hussain beyond Lahore.
Sometime ago, the third installment was announced with Farhan Saeed and Kubra Khan leading the film as the original cast comes back. But seems like Farhan is not doing the film anymore. He said, “I was offered the lead in Karachi Se Lahore 3 with Kubra Khan but unfortunately I had to opt out because of my music tours and concerts that I had already committed to.
He continued, “I believe that an artist must pour his/her heart and soul in every project, and I would never want to commit to something I can’t give my full attention to. The decision to not go ahead with the project is because of my clashing dates. I wish the team good luck and wish they do really well.”
Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was again alright because the focus on petty issues makes it hard to take this drama & its characters seriously. The story hasn’t really made much progress that is why the main topic of discussion happens to be things like chicken, yakhni, sonf, massi & joshanda. I totally understand that our writers take pride in showing close to reality stories but then no one is really looking forward to close to kitchen dramas because I don’t think viewers who spent a fair share of time in the kitchen want to be reminded of the ingredients they should be adding in the next month’s grocery list while watching a drama. Balaa had a lot of potential but these petty issues have reduced it to something else & make it look like a joke.
Shama & Taimoor Are Weak Characters:
Taimoor has finally started seeing Shama through Nigar’s perspective. To be honest, I feel both Shama & Taimoor deserve what is happening to both of them because when they don’t want to help themselves, no one can actually help them either. Shama & Taimoor were well aware of Nigar’s nature before the marriage took place so it is ridiculous to see Shama allowing Nigar to do all this & Taimoor believing in one-sided picture that Nigar is painting in front of him.
No matter what, just like a mother knows her child in & out, a child also knows about the strengths & weaknesses of his/her parents. For Taimoor to actually believe that Shama is mistreating Nigar is quite unconvincing. Taimoor really doesn’t know how to maintain a balance in the first place & that makes him quite a worst character who has no brains to analyze the situation himself. When he got married he rubbed his family on Nigar’s face & now she is doing everything to remove the traces of that rubbing.
The only good thing in this episode was a face off between Shama & Taimoor where Shama fully supported Batool. At that moment I thought Shama has finally redeemed herself but oh well. Even after Batool told her that it was Nigar who sent Taimoor to that café as she knew Batool was meeting Hamza there, Shama in stead of doing something about it went to Nigar to plead her case? Like seriously? After everything that Shama can see & understand about Nigar, she still thinks Nigar will do as she requests? Also, when Shama can take a stand for Batool in front of her son Taimoor, then why did she say that she won’t be able to do anything if Taimoor fixes her marriage with Junaid? Seriously?
Closing Thoughts – Fab Acting:
As the drama is progressing I am losing my interest in it because I am tired of seeing this one-sided match. Also, what more is going to happen for everyone in Taimoor’s family to tell him the truth about Nigar & show him the other side of the picture? Everyone can see that Nigar is lying to him & making things up yet no one says a word & let’s Nigar do more damage? The situations were petty but the acting of everyone was quite intense & they did a fab job especially Samina Peerzada & Meherbano. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.
Sameena came on Sanam Baloch’s morning show and she talked about everything. She started from her childhood, her meeting with Osman Peerzada, her ambitions of doing chartered accountancy, her foray into arts and of course how could she not speak about her most loved possession? Her daughters. Sameena has two daughters, Anam Peerzada, the older one and Amal Peerzada, the younger one.
Sameena has played some memorable mother roles and it makes us wonder what kind of a mother is she in real life? Actors play a pivotal role in ensuring that the characters they are enacting on screen turn out to be convincing and relatable. Pakistani drama industry is full of talented individuals who gave commendable performances this year but there were also some actors who killed the essence of the characters they were translating on screen. These actors turned out to be the weakest links in few plays which were otherwise brilliant in terms of script, acting and even direction. These performances can easily be classified as worst performances because these actors completely failed to do justice to the characters they chose to play on screen.

Nadia Khan (Zun Mureed)
Nadia Khan played the role of the main protagonist in the play Zun Mureed. Tabbasum was a strong woman who took a stand for herself when her husband hit her. Tabbasum’s journey was written beautifully by Amna Mufti but Nadia Khan’s acting left a lot to be desired. Everything about the way this character was translated on screen was wrong, from the outlook to the expressions and body language. Nadia Khan did not compromise on her looks at all therefore even when Tabbasum was injured and suffering, her hair were never tied and the make-up was always on point. Apart from this, Nadia Khan’s expressions were never in line with her characters. Tabbasum had her vulnerabilities but she was definitely not a bechari yet Nadia Khan translated this character on screen in such a way that there were times when Tabbasum looked like the victim. The dialogues and the expression just did not match at all. Nadia Khan’s weak acting stood out even more because all the actors were brilliant in their respective roles.
Agha Mustafa Hassan (Visaal)
Agha Mustafa Hassan played the role of Taimoor in Visaal. His character didn’t have much to offer and he was MIA in most of the drama but even in those handful of episodes that he appeared, his acting was very bland, stiff and unconvincing. Agha Mustafa Hassan has been seen before in dramas like Sang e Marmar and Mohabbat.pk but in Visaal, his acting was particularly bad as if he was having a hard time delivering his dialogues and not to forget, a single expression pasted on his face where no one could tell if he was happy or sad!
Jia Ali (Pukaar)
Jia Ali played the role of Tashfeen in drama serial Pukaar where she didn’t have much authority or control over things – which is alright. What’s not alright is that Jia Ali had the authority and control over her expressions and acting but in Pukaar, she clearly couldn’t perform to the best of her abilities. Jia Ali is one such actress who takes pride in her beautiful dusky complexion so what came as a shock was that she allowed the makeup artists to lighten up her skin-tone quite a bit which looked unnatural and unflattering as well. Jia Ali tried really hard to emote with her eyes but she failed as her expressions got buried beneath the layers and layers of makeup!
Sajal Ali (Noor ul Ain)
Sajal Ali is a phenomenal actress, there’s no doubt about it but Noor ul Ain was probably one of her worst performances that the viewers witnessed. Yes, the character of Noor ul Ain was straight-forward, serious and focused but not sure who told Sajal Ali that all these traits can only be portrayed by sporting a poker face throughout the drama. Sajal Ali’s poker face became so annoying that it was hard to understand what her character was feeling or going through. All we could see was a blank look on her face which actually made her acting and character quite dull and boring to look at.
Aiman Khan (Bedardi)
Aiman Khan is quite capable of giving a decent performance but in drama serial bedardi she ended up making her character just another one of the many characters she played this year. Although, Bia went through many emotions from anger to depression and then ultimately recognizing that she had a bigger role to play in her husband’s life and was strong but all through the drama Aiman Khan’s only focus was to look pretty and to get through every single scene without leaving an impact. Bia went through so much but because of Aiman Khan’s acting, her journey was never as emotional as that of Shafay because Affan Waheed did complete justice to his character but Aiman barely managed to get through every scene. Aiman Khan was part of many dramas this year which is probably why she failed to do justice to this character. Bia ended up looking a lot like Mirha and Shafaq which is why her character lacked the impact which it could’ve had. Aiman Khan’s expressions were always the same throughout and her stiff body language made her portrayal even worse.
Salma Hassan (Khaani)
Salma Hassan played the role of Khaani’s mother and not only was she a complete miscast in the play but her overacting made her scenes impossible to watch. Salma Hassan’s acting in this play and her entire look was artificial. The fake gestures and expressions and those perfectly blow-dried hair even when her character was going through a mourning period added to the fakeness. Salma Hassan is not an impressive actor otherwise too but was her performance in Khaani was definitely one of her worst performances.
Furqan Qureshi (Woh Mera Dil Tha)
Furqan Qureshi took wooden acting to a whole a new level in drama serial Woh Mera Dil Tha. He played the role of Arham in the drama, who was an important character in a love triangle. Arham’s character already had not much going for it and Furqan’s uninspired performance made it terribly annoying too. Arham was supposed to be reserved and was also a coward but the way Furqan Qureshi translated it on screen was the worst part since even the weaknesses were confusing to say the least! That is why when he was not in the picture, he was not missed at all! This character came across as an unintelligent one more than anything else thanks to Furqan’s terrible acting. Furqan has and can do better therefore this performance was a huge disappointment.
Agha Ali (Mere Bewafa)
Agha Ali‘s role in drama serial Mere Bewafa was anything but positive yet he was somehow convinced that he was a charming hero and therefore gave this character the wrong treatment. Shahmir was a two-timing husband who was incapable of taking responsibility yet Agha Ali failed to highlight these negative traits but tried to add unnecessary charm to his character. Shagufta Ijaz also played a negative character in this drama but because she owned it completely, she was loved by all for her acting even though everyone hated her character. Agha Ali on the other hand concentrated on looking handsome and forgot that he was playing a negative character. Shahmir’s character as a result lost all significance and had absolutely no impact.

Fatima Ali is a chef based in New York. She is only 29 years old and is the first Pakistani ever who won the culinary show Chopped. She is a certified chef who studied in the Culinary Institute of America and later worked in many big restaurants. Fatima also later became a contestant on Top Chef. Last year, tragedy hit when she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma which is a bone cancer. She fought it and defeated it in July.
Her cancer, however, has relapsed and has been declared terminal by the doctors. Fatima just has one year left of her life. But instead of retreating and crying, she has decided that she will make the best of her time and will be fulfilling all her wishes. Her story also caught the attention of TV show host Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen invited Fatima on her show and also gifted her 50,000 dollars so she can fulfil her wishes of dining at the best restaurants in the world and travel. Here is her interaction with Ellen:
