But it’s Gohar Rasheed, whose role has all in suspense and anticipation, owing to his hassled and curious appearance in the teaser.

Pakistan women’s cricket team is in the game for past two decades. They have worked hard throughout and finally got recognized when the team got themselves a place under PCB in 2005. But it was not until 2009 they started getting their due share when they won gold in Asian games in 2009.

The "Heroines" finally getting recognition!

The team won the gold again in 2014. In one of the winning moments it can be seen that the captain’s jersey had a tape due to lack of sponsors.

The "Heroines" finally getting recognition!

But the struggle of the team is finally bearing fruit as the team just got an official sponsor for their kits and its Bonanza Satrangi. Pakistan Women’s Team Sponsorship and ICC World Cup 2017 Kit unveiling took place at National Cricket Academy Lahore and was attended by ODI Captain Sana Mir and T20 Captain Bismah Maroof among others.

Bismah said: “There are many parents now who encourage their daughters to play cricket. This is an achievement.”

Sana Mir also expressed her delight on the occasion. She said: “Finally getting an official kit sponsor for women cricket team is an indication that the hard work this team has put in since 2005 has finally started to bear fruit.”

The "Heroines" finally getting recognition!

Mr. Hanif Bilwani, Chairman Bonanza said, “It’s an honor for Bonanza Satrangi to be associated with Pakistan cricket as an official team sponsor for women’s cricket team. We believe that sport is particularly powerful in reaching out to the young, who represent the future of our country.”

Sammi Episode 19 Review – Well-Crafted

This episode had a lot of important developments to its credit and quite a few scenes which were very touching. Also, like all the previous episodes of Sammi this one too was packed with some powerful and positive messages. All the characters in this drama have come a long way, this change has been shown gradually and realistically. Aalyan played a major role in changing the way Sammi had been handling her situation so far. Rashid has always been shown as someone who was quite capable of feeling for people around him therefore watching him regret everything he had done and trying to help Sammi in some way did not come as a surprise. So far the main motivation behind Zulekha’s actions has been to ensure that Chaudhry does not get married to Sammi but the preview of the next episode suggested that Chandni might be able to bring about a change in her way of thinking too.

Right from the beginning the writer had made it quite clear that all the characters in this drama are in their respective situations mainly because of their mental barriers. Although most of them are quite capable of breaking free from the shackles of the system and those people who do not let them live a life on their own terms and conditions, but they do not even attempt to do things differently. Sammi did something tonight which was brand new for her, she decided to speak up for herself. Although there isn’t much she can do practically to change her situation right now but the fact is that if she decides to stand up for herself, the Chaudhry will automatically lose his grip on her. Right now, Chaudhry Nawaz is very conscious about his “reputation” which is why in the previous episode he asked Zulekha to cover up for him when the press questions him about his actions regarding Sammi therefore there is a good reason why Sammi’s newfound confidence will be a big hurdle in the way of his plans.

Sammi Episode 19 Review - Well-Crafted

The scene which covered Sammi’s meeting with her family was written beautifully. Sammi had very little time to get her message across and she definitely managed to give her father and brother something to think about. Even though Mawra’s outlook, just like always, proved to be a big distraction but even then that scene was very impactful. My most favorite part of this episode however was Rashid’s track and the turn it has taken. The change in Rashid’s personality and the way he stood there holding the gun to make sure that Sammi’s family listened to her showed he was on Sammi’s side now. Rashid’s meeting with Chandni was also extremely emotional. The dialogues, the performances and the way this scene was directed was very impressive.

Aalyan has always played a positive role throughout, right from the get-go he was introduced as someone who wasn’t afraid of anyone and someone who chose his battles wisely and fought hard to win them with logic and reasoning. His support saved his phupo’s life, his words brought about a major change in Sammi and he has made a big difference by changing the mindset the chota chaudhry was raised with. His character shows how one person can be the torchbearer of change. Naheed’s conversation with Aalyan was also beautifully penned down and executed flawlessly. Love how all these wonderful actors have completely transformed themselves to fit into their respective roles.

Naheed and Salima’s scene in the hospital was another impactful scene of this episode. I am waiting to see a change in Salima’s character. Even though Rashid assured her that he did not want a son but Salima is convinced that only a son can open the door of happiness for her family.

This was another well put together episode of Sammi which had a lot to offer. The preview of the next episode was very enticing as well.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode. Do share your thoughts about it.

Why I Regret Hating Veena Malik

You may not like her, I understand. You may have genuine reasons, I understand. But did many of us, like me, start hating her for reasons we did not take time to fully comprehend?

Veena Malik has been famous for all the wrong reasons for more than half a decade now. Ever since her appearance in Big Boss, the actress has been involved in a series of unfortunate incidents, been the bud of almost every joke and the most attacked celebrity to date. This article by no means aims to justify everything she did, she certainly was no saint. Rather the spotlight will be on us, the Pakistani population, were we unjust?

I grew up bashing Veena Malik purely because everyone in my school was doing it. I hadn’t watched any of her videos or kept up with her on big boss but hey, everyone said she was rotten so who was I to disagree? My opinion didn’t change for a long time, she’d constantly be on the news and I was indifferent but every time someone brought her up I’d jump onto the hate bandwagon. Recently a clip from an interview she did back in 2011 resurfaced and changed the way I saw her and those around me. I suggest you watch the video before continuing further.

Bohat khuch hai jis pey baat ki ja sakti hai. Sirf Veena Malik kyun? Kyun k Veena Malik aurat hai? Kyun k Veena Malik soft target hai aap k liye?’ was a line much ahead of its time. We all remember what happened to Qandeel Baloch, don’t we? She was killed for doing something internet’s latest sensation, Nasir Khan Jan, is in the early stages of. Why aren’t Pathans rising up together against him being an insult to ‘Pakhtoon pride’? Why are there no clerics giving impassioned speeches against him? Why is he still alive while she’s dead? Because she was a woman. You may not agree with what she did, and because of the universal right to freedom of speech, you have every right to an opinion but did she really deserve a bullet to her head for something that YOU easily could’ve turned your eyes to? YOU could’ve blocked her? If YOU have a right to freedom of expression why didn’t she?

This is a trend in Pakistan. We pick up our pitch forks and light our torches every time a woman does something with her own life. But when children are being raped, women being abused and ‘politicians are bribing, robbing and killing in the name of Islam’  we stay quiet. We make a face, nod in disagreement acknowledging that its wrong but then do nothing. However as soon as a video surfaces of an actress dancing in her car, there’s a public outcry. Women are ‘soft targets’, they’re easy to pick on and make us feel like at least we’re fighting for something. Clerics especially just love to condemn these women as if they’re the only threat to Islam. They have rallies, spit out harsh words all in an attempt to make sure everyone thinks they’re doing something to justify their tax-free lives. They give the illusion of work being done so no one can rise up against them. Think of it this way, they clean a bowl and put it at the center of the dinning room table for everyone to see so no one notices the unwashed dishes piled up in the sink. It’s easy for them because they know these woman can’t fight back on the same scale.

And for everyone who says that it’s because they ruin the image of Pakistan and disrespect our ideologies, I would just like to say to you; really? Does Pakistan really have a bad reputation because of Veena Malik? Is your visa being rejected because of Qandeel Baloch? Is our Prime Minister being treated with less respect at international forums because a woman decided to wear short clothes and kiss a guy?

We place the entire burden of our nation and religion’s reputation on the shoulders of women who did even ask for it. And then we bury them alive if they refuse to carry it. We’re quick to cry foul every time a woman does something that she may even grow up to realize as a mistake. Instead of treating them with patience and kind words, we share their memes and add our own derogatory captions. We don’t lend a hand to someone at a low point in their lives instead push them down further. We don’t pick out our targets with careful thought and consideration rather just go for what’s easiest. We frown at a woman in short clothes but play ‘tutti frutti‘ at every mehndi. We add completely irrelevant item songs to our movies and then show our knives to Neelum Muneer. We are a nation of hypocrites, want proof? The Maulvi in the above interview chewing Veena’s ear off about Islam and the duty we all have to spread a modest image is the same one whose pictures were leaked with Qandeel Baloch.

Phir Wohi Mohabbat – An Overview

So after Sang-e-Mar-Mar I found my Thursday evenings replaced by Phir Wohi Mohabbat. Directed by Mohsin Mirza and written by Mansoor Saeed, it has completed 12 episodes by far. The promos were looking good for awhile until they became overplayed, but what can we say to that.

Phir Wohi Mohabbat stars Hania Amir and Ahmed Ali Akbar in lead roles, playing Alishba and Waleed in respective roles. After winning hearts in Janaan as Palwasha, Hania Amir has won over all of our hearts, so I had to say I was looking forward to her acting.

The story revolves around a family of two brothers, their wives (who happen to be sisters), their mother and their children. Shamim Hillali plays the Dadi, Shamoon Abbasi plays the older brother Asher, Zainub Qayyum plays his wife Samra. Asher’s brother is played by Shamil Khan as Yasir and Salma Hassan plays his wife Ramsha.

The story started off great, the storyline was definitely different and seeing the entire story unfold was interesting. The main story is that Asher accidentally killed his servant, Rafiq’s pregnant wife and daughter and to take revenge, Raffiq took Alishba (Asher’s daughter) and ran away with her to the village. Since Ramsha, Alishba’s mother, dealt with a miscarriage the same day, the trauma of losing her only daughter was very immense and she became paralyzed.

Zainub really played the character of Ramsha well and accurately acted out the emotions that her character could be feeling at such a time. Cut to many years after and we see Alishba alongside her Amna Kaki and Rafiq, whom she calls her father and it is clearly seen that she thinks of him as her biological father and is in love with him. Rafiq also treats Alishba like his own daughter, but he is not feeling physically well and obviously has paranoia that Alishba will find out about her past or someone will find her.

So then, Amna Kaki and Alishba head over to the villa in which Alishba’s real family lives. It was a pleasant transition and it actually made sense as to why Alishba would be in that house at the time. Waleed coming to the villa was funny, they all didn’t expect such a different little boy they had last seen. Waleed and Sana are the stereotypical “bahir vale couples” seemed like Sana didn’t want to stay in Pakistan whatsoever and literally was with Waleed for her work. It was funny seeing Ramsha’s reaction to Sana and I definitely laughed when she said “thori mukhtalif kism ki hai”, because what was to be expected?

I do think that the entire Rafiq meeting Dadi situation was not flowed nicely, it didn’t make much sense why Dadi was willing to go with Alishba even though she was a mere servant. I don’t know if the writer wanted to display the family as kind and gracious, or perhaps wanted to highlight that everyone was really happy with the change in Samra after Alishba arrived.

I also thought that the initial relationship between Samra and Alishba was very cute and heartwarming. Although neither knew what their real relation was, Samra was enlightened by Alishba and Alishba felt like she was caring for her own. So the big bang boom, Rafiq was caught by Dadi and he revealed the truth. I can see why Rafiq hurried on with it, the regret was caught straight onto him and he knew he wasn’t feeling well. He wanted to hand Alishba over in good hands because he was already caught.

And then somehow Alishba agreed to go with Dadi and settle there. I guess she was in a kind of shock. Ramsha and Asher were definitely angry with Rafiq but Ramsha went and said that whatever Rafiq and given to Alishba was a lie. However we can see easily that Rafiq really did give care to Alishba and treated her like his own daughter.

I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say that Alishba got over Rafiq pretty quick! The next thing you know she’s happily dancing at Waleed’s wedding! It wasn’t a smooth transition at all. Cue in Shehreyar and a whole lot of drama. I don’t see how suddenly Alishba felt deeply in love with him, enough to hate Waleed because Shehreyar left. Now Alishba is caught up in a promise to Dadi, her mother’s wishes, Samra’s taunts, Shereyars love and Waleed’s feelings, and I have to say this is becoming one of those dramas that are repeating the same stories over and over. The beginning was strong so I’m hoping the drama picks up the pace towards the middle.

So overall this drama is average. The transitions are smooth and there isn’t alot of excitement. Maybe my standards are too high after dramas like Sang e Mar Mar and Sammi, though!

Hania Amir’s dialogues are kind of forced and cliche. “Jab mujhe kisi cheeyz sai nafrat ho jai, toh dunya ki koi bi taqat usse muhabbat mein tabdeel nahi kar sakti” Like seriously? Ahmed Ali Akbar is going good at playing nice guy, but for how long?

I’ll give a more detailed review next Thursday, InshaAllah!

Sophia Ahmed

The biggest clash of the season is here!

ICC Champions Trophy is on and the arch rivals India and Pakistan will face each other today in hopefully a nail-biting match at 2.30 pm. Hopes are up on both sides of the borders with Pakistanis praying for their country during fasting and Indians singing Mauka Mauka on television. With all star players retiring this year including Shahid Afridi who holds the record for being the only Pakistani having his name in Champion Trophy’s ‘Best bowling figures list’, Misbah ul haq, Younas Khan and Abdul Razzaq; Pakistan will rely on its young talent as well as the captain Sarfraz Ahmed (jo kabhi dhoka nahin dega InShaaAllah). Sarfraz is hopeful to win this match, this is what he had to say:

“The pressure will definitely be on India… we currently stand in the 8th spot so we can’t go lower than that.” He further added:

“We have definitely have a plan… you will see us doing some new things which have not been tried against India before. You will see some out of the box things and the team playing differently.”

The biggest clash of the season is here!

On the other hand Indian team is also high in spirits with their star players MS Dhoni, Shikar Dhawan, Ashwin and Virat Kohli(Captain) in full form to win the trophy again as they are currently the defending champions too. This is what Virat had to say:

“In Test cricket, we (India) have been able to reach the top with that mindset, having the hunger to win. We have taken it across all formats. Ruthlessness is something we definitely speak about all the time. We go in with that mindset and that goes a long way in a tournament like this.”

The biggest clash of the season is here!

Well the green shirts are on, face paints are ready and Pakistanis are all set to cheer their team whatever the result maybe kyunki tum jeeto ya haro humain tum se pyaar hai spirit is always there in our hearts. Pakistani team does have a disadvantage as the players are not as set as the Indian team but this can also turn out as an advantage because it makes the team unpredictable. Faheem Ashraf may also debut in the big match today. The nation is looking forward to the clash and hopes that Pakistan turns out as a winner. But who will get the chance to do Mauka Mauka only time will tell!

The biggest clash of the season is here!

Till then finger crossed and prayers on!

Sushmita Sen recites Surat Al Asar

It is no secret that the flawlessly beautiful Miss World 1994 winner Sushmita Sen is multitalented. Her beauty and brains remain unmatched among Indian celebrities, even more than a decade later. A women of substance, Sushmita flows through life so confidently and certainly that you cannot help being awed by her.

She is a philanthropist and a big advocate of uplifting the underprivileged. Her two adopted daughters started their lives in orphanages but have been thriving in her care now.

As if these qualities were not enough, she mesmerised a whole auditorium and millions on television when she wished a happy and blessed eid to all Muslim worldwide and then recited Surat Al Asar so perfectly and so eloquently that it was nothing short of magical. After recitation, she explained it’s meaning in English and then emphasised that whoever does have patience, truly never loses any battle in this world.

When asked how she knew so much about Islam, she explained in her particular confident and smiling tone that she loves these verses and their meanings and that her favourite time of the day is of morning Azan because it makes her feel so peaceful.

There was an ethereal quality to her voice during Quranic recitation, and for a Hindu film actress and model to know the Arabic verses and their English translation can only be called a miracle of Quran because it affects hearts in ways that are incomprehensible to human mind. May she be blessed for trying to understand Quran and may this journey which brings her peace continue forever.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai Episode 9 Review – Overcrowded & Vague

Sitting through tonight’s episode was nothing short of a challenge not only because of the timing but also because the director apparently took this script a little too seriously!! Even in situations which are completely comical, the scenes are shot in such detail that everything you see is more staged than anything else. There are always people in the background either nodding their heads or laughing in these situations and the focus is never on the main subject. The backgrounds are being highlighted more than necessary and the ever-present music does not help either. Ami begum’s fake heart attack was interesting but the way everyone gathered around her and the focus on everyone’s body language and expressions gave a really strange feel to the whole scenario like they were a bunch of children getting excited over nothing. Later on when Ami Begum wanted everyone to boycott Waqar Ahmed, everyone was so involved in that situation too. I never thought I would say this about a drama but I feel that all the scenes in this drama are too overcrowded and overstated. There are so many people in this household but the story is revolving around only 2 characters (Maheen and Waqar) in particular and generally around four (Ami begum, Gulrez, Waqar and Maheen) of them. All the other family members do not even have definite characters and definitely no stories of their own! Even tonight, there were some scenes which were amusing but overall, there are so many glaring flaws in the execution of the script in particular that even the minor flaws in the script are very noticeable.

Finally somebody decided to talk to Maheen about Gulrez’s proposal. An entire episode was dedicated to Maheen’s reaction to the proposal and the possible outcome but later on it was almost as if everyone around Maheen forgot all about it! The perfume and book simile was one of the many forced dialogues in this drama which count as added philosophical discussions that are definitely not needed!! The message could have been conveyed in a much better manner without comparing Gulrez to a book (which is obviously a thing!). I felt like Neelam was belittling her brother (although she was not doing that of course) by comparing him to a commodity like that, it was certainly in bad taste. Also, I don’t understand why every character in this drama is bent on being philosophical even when certain scenarios can easily be covered without delving into details which are usually out of context!

Since many of the wonderful actors in this drama, who do not even need to prove that they are good at what they do, have given some very exaggerated performances, therefore one can safely conclude that the director ordered them to give these expressions which are anything but subtle! Maheen was cute for a while but her character doesn’t have a lot to offer. Like many of the other characters in the play, it is somewhat vague. She is gradually falling in love with Waqar and she cannot see him getting married to Jia, she is headstrong and bubbly but that’s about it! The character isn’t appealing enough and unfortunately Ayeza Khan’s performance looks a lot like acting! Like I said, I completely hold the director responsible for this because even someone like Saman Ansari is acting very artificial in this drama. Haroon Kadwani and Kinza Hashmi are making the most of the roles assigned to them but the fact is that they are also being used as props in a lot of scenes.

The story moved forward slightly in this episode but the characters in this play can easily be very annoying mainly because of the way they have been translated on screen. Maheen and Waqar’s track has potential but the overall execution of this play is so weak that I seriously doubt that the director or the writer will exploit this potential to the fullest. The only good thing about this episode was that Jia did not get a lot of screen time, other than that the episode overall was just like any other episode of this drama – a lot of talking, very little action, too many emotions, not enough content or depth!

How many of you watched this episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Live Nikah in Shaan e Iftar.. what next?

There used to be a saying about moving everything but the kitchen sink, but we cannot apply it to our celebrities when it comes to Ramzan transmissions. They move to the sets with everything, including the kitchen sink.

Talking about shaan e sehar or iftar or dil dil ramzan or ramzan main bol or barkat or whatever ingenious names they come up, there has to be a certain amount of topics you can really discuss every day, so they just leave the topics and preparation. They just shoot life as it happens.

Ramzan transmissions are more like vlogs now with kids singing, playing, aunties cooking, scholars arguing, hosts giving presents, guests debating and even swans roaming at will. And on top of all that, Sanam Baloch has now shown a live nikah on her program or in her words provided relief to the mother by wedding off her daughter.

Live Nikah in Shaan e Iftar.. what next?

The sequence of doing a live nikah seems quite desperate to be honest. There has to be better ways to helping out parents for their daughters’ wedding and especially since it didn’t involve any monetary contribution from the viewers. It looks more like filling screen time by finding one uniquely weird idea after the other to boost the ratings.

The funny thing is how they find people to be willing to just do everything on air. And how they must be grabbing people for everything. If  they can do live nikah, live fights and live cooking on stage, I wonder what will we see next.

Let’s stay tuned, because there are more than three weeks of ramzan left and the ramzan transmissions teams are certainly going to come up with many more entertaining ideas like this… to keep the show going ?

Ali Haider Reacts To Waqar Zaka’s Unpleasant Video On Aamir Zaki’s Death

Aamir Zaki, the renowned legendary guitarist passed away on Friday at the age of 49. Zaki suffered from heart failure after a long battle with health problems.

However, Waqar Zaka came out with a video following the demise of legendary guitarist. He criticised the artist community for being insensitive and abandoning Zaki. He further claimed that Aamir Zaki was lying dead all alone with no one to take care of his body.

According to Waqar, he went to the Edhi morgue located in the Sohrab Goth area of Karachi where the idol’s body was kept.

He also said that the deceased’s family was not concerned about his body. “Artists should come and see how Aamir is kept here. This day can also come in our lives,” he said in his live video on Facebook.

Zaka alleged that singers Ali Haider, Hadiqa Kiani and Ahmed Jahanzaib, who worked with Zaki were not there to his death.

Singer Ali Haider now responded to Zaka’s live video, Ali released a video recently and slammed Zaka for naming him and Hadiqa Kiani among others, he also claimed that Zaka is trying to seek attention using Aamir Zaki’s death.

He said, “Everyone knows that I have been living in the United Staes for over two years now and Hadiqa lives in Lahore. But you [Waqar] were in Karachi. Why couldn’t you do anything for Zaki when we all knew the tough time he was going through?”

“If I want to do something good or charitable, I will do it in secret. Gabbing a mobile phone and shooting a video to seek attention is very easy,” he said.

The whole episode is surely getting uglier.

MOM’s trailer unravels even more mysteries and gripping suspense

MOM's trailer unravels even more mysteries and gripping suspense

The trailer of the movie Mom is finally out and it has us all intrigued even more. For starters, it is has all the traits of a perfect movie trailer: the unique cohesion of a creepy lament in the background with the foreboding aura; narration with powerful dialogues and the enigma of the story-line which in no way has been clearly been revealed even in the two minutes that various scenes of the movie are put together. There is an ambiance of threat, danger, regret and despair as soon as the first sentence of the narration by Sridevi resonates in the video: “Which one will you choose: the wrong or more wrong?” We are flashed back in time where Sridevi’s relationship with her step- daughter (Sajal Ali) is unfolded and even the bond that the family shared (Adan Siddique playing the father) as a whole before any trouble had been bestowed on them. Sajal Ali looks perfectly innocent, even fragile, on screen which perhaps plays a pivotal role in the circumstances that are yet to be disclosed but can only be guessed at; for an unfortunate turn of events seem to have come in between the mother-daughter relationship. Is Sajal Ali killed? Kidnapped? Gone through a traumatic experience, where maybe her mother is at fault or just blames herself for it?

The next interval of the trailer looks upon Sridevi searching for ways to correct her mistake or seek redemption for her own satisfaction. Here, two more actors are uncloaked : Nawazuddin Siddique (unperturbed and strangely calm among all the apprehension)  and Akshaye Khanna (handsome yet inscrutable); both disguised in the perfect get-up, yet we have no idea what part do they play in the conundrum that surrounds this plot.

The last card, however comes into play at the very end, where Sajal Ali questions her mom unequivocally : “But didn’t you tell them? That I’m not your daughter, Ma’am?”

Is this it then? Is that the pivotal center of our storyline?

It seems like there is no end to the twists and puzzles of this thriller which only arouses are curiosity and impatience more.

One thing’s for sure: We can’t wait for this movie to hit theaters on the 7th of July!

Watch the trailer here and leave your thoughts in the comments below:

Shahid Afridi Foundation inside story

A country that has the 25th largest economy of the world in terms of purchasing power should have very prosperous citizens.. no?

Nope, in Pakistan one in four Pakistani lives in multidimensional poverty. Add to that the very low late of literacy due to privatisation of education multiplied by a very high birth rate and you have the recipe of an extreme class difference…the extent of which is unimaginable.

The solution lies in all of us, but despite our best intentions, we often lack a trustworthy platform to execute them. After the recent rage of Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) as advertised on TV, we did a little digging to see what it’s all about.

Shahid Afridi Foundation inside story

SAF was founded in March,2014 and has been very proactive since then to alleviate pain, sufferings and poverty throughout Pakistan. It’s charity hospital in Kohat, Sahibzada Fazal Rahman Charity Hospital is one of the cleanest and best equipped hospitals in NWFP. There have been many hopeless families who have returned to health there

The foundation also operates a number of schools to provide education to poverty stricken children who would otherwise have no access to books. Maybe it’s because he is a father himself, but the majority of beneficiaries of SAF are impoverished kids.

Shahid Afridi Foundation inside story

There are many famous names who have collaborated with Shahid Afridi in his various charitable projects. I don’t think there could be a better use of one’s hard earned name and fame than this.

Shahid Afridi Foundation inside story

This Ramzan in the naiki segment, he appears in Shan e Ramzan to encourage people to contribute towards the tragedies that needy people bring on stage there.

Pakistan is very big and our needs too many, but if all of us in our small places of privelage decide to make just one life a little better, we can certainly change the current statistics of poverty, just one person at a time.

If you find yourself with some extra time and money, visit the website http://shahidafridifoundation.org  to see if you can contribute these resources to one platform that is striving to relieve as many sufferings as they can.

Saba Qamar Replies To Bollywood’s Love Letter & Says, “We LOVE Indians and Hindi films”

Saba Qamar is a name that needs no introduction. She’s known for her exceptional acting skills and her strong performances in dramas since 2004.

Hindi Medium is releasing on the 19th of May

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

Bollywood Hungama’s Faridoon wrote Saba Qamar an open love letter. Saba Qamar responds to the open letter and here’s the whole conversation between Faridoon and Saba Qamar.

We were discussing in my office about Hindi Medium and your performance. The idea just happened and the next day I decided to pen an open letter to you.
Thank you so much. I am glad, I am excited. You know everybody is sending me that link, that article’s link. Social media pe bheja jaa raha hai. Sab keh rahe the Faridoon ne likha hai. So I said okay guys, I am going to reply to him and I will call him. Aapne seedha seedha dhamaka kar diya.

2 days to go #sabaqamar #irrfankhan #HindiMedium ?

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

There are so many people, who have been asking me ki aap ko jawab mile ki nahi?
Chalega! aap se baat karte hain. Aapse baat karke accha lagega. Aapki shayri itni kamal ki hai!

Considering both India and Pakistan have similar culture, Shayri toh honi chahiye..
Jahan pyaar hota hai, wahan thodi si jung toh hoti hee hai.

That is true. I hope yeh jo chhoti si jung hai, it ends. When you interact with people from both sides then there is love and affection and curiosity…

People in Pakistan, love Indian people. Seriously, we love Indians and Hindi cinema. Hindi medium has got a great response.

How is the response in Pakistan?
Amazing! I can’t tell in words. Main alfazon mein nahi bata sakhungi ki logo ne kya response dia hai! I was so excited bahut accha response hai.

The film is growing from strength to strength in India and I believe its running houseful in Pakistan as well?
Yes fully. It’s still houseful here. Yahan cinemas mein half-girlfriend utar chuki hai. Hindi Medium hai, aur Hollywood movies hain.

Even in India, It’s going from strength to strength. It’s getting better and better! And people in USA for that matter are watching Hindi medium as well. People are very curious over there.
Yeah thank you. I am very excited. They relate to the character. They are liking it. I have read about it.

I am sorry but I haven’t seen your dramas but since the time the open letter has come out many people on the social media have been telling me about your works like Maat, Thakan etc…
Have you seen ‘Besharam’? It’s really nice. If you want to know about Saba Qamar, you must watch ‘Besharam’. It’s my story. I totally relate to that story and character.

I had not seen your work and in a way it was good because I found your performance so fresh in Hindi Medium. It was really wonderful and I had a great time watching it.
Thank you so much. But I feel ki Hindi Medium mein whatever I have done, woh toh kuch bhi nahi tha. When I look at my performance in Hindi Medium then I feel that there is so much more that is still to be explored. I am very comfortable with everything. I am an actor, kisi bhi actor ka ek character hota hai. Kisi dusre ko in cheezo se taujub nahi hona chaheye. Nahi toh woh khud ko explore kaise karega. Agar hum chance nahi lenge, different cheeze nahi karenge aur sirf same character karenge, wahi hero- herione blah blah toh fir kaise! Main woh bhi karna chahungi, woh bhi important hai. But I like to play challenging characters, character roles. Characters that are insightful and nice.

Even in this film, the way you emotionally blackmail Irrfan, I literally was laughing a lot. There were people around me and they were like, why is this guy laughing so much. It was hilarious. In fact I interviewed Irrfan Khan and he said that he really had a great time working with you.
Even I had a great time working with him. He was humble and down to earth.

Tenu suit suit karda. #sabaqamar @gururandhawa @arjunartist #Hindimedium #Maddockfilms #Tseries #May12th

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

How did you prepare for the role?
Honestly, Itna kuch khaas nahi karna padha mujhe kuch. Mujhe sab keh rahe ki dialogue maine seekhe hai acche. Language of both the countries is similar so I didn’t have any difficulty at all. In Pakistan TV Dramas are like movies. The way movie stars are considered bigger in India, similarly TV drama stars are considered bigger than movie stars in Pakistan. T.V actors are respected more here since we don’t have that many films that are made in Pakistan. So aise kuch nahi tha ki bahut zyaada mujhe out of the way jaake kuch karna padha.Thode thode words sirf different hai. Even then I didn’t have much problem.

And how was your experience while shooting in Delhi?
The whole film is shot in Delhi. The shooting experience was amazing. It was one of the best moments in my life and I would always remember it.

Work hard in silence,let success make the noise! #sabaqamar #characterrole #Biopic #khi #rebel

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

And you enjoyed the food? Delhi food?
I loved the food. All the restaurants and the food places, Purani Delhi aur Chandni chowk. Daal Makhni was my favourite. I would say yaar dal makhani arrange kar do yaar. Pakistan mein uska taste woh nahi hai jo aap log spices daalte hain. Miss kar rahi hu main bahut zyaada. I wish main Delhi aaoon bahut jald, Mumbai bhi.

Things turned really bad between India and Pakistan in September last year. Seeing what happened with Fawad khan and Mahira Khan, do you find it a bit sad the way Art got mixed up with war?
Faridoon it’s not about the Art. It’s about humanity. Insaan itna anger leke kyu chal rahe hai? We should try and look ahead. We shouldn’t remain so caught up in the Past! I went to Delhi and I received so much love and affection. No one said anything bad to me, no one displayed any anger. I thought these are such loving people. Even in Pakistan, India ki koi bhi cheeze aati hai na toh hum excited hote hain pata nahi ab kahan maamla kharab hai. I hope sab cheezein theek ho jayen. See I am a loving person. I want a peaceful world. I don’t like fighting and all. Chhodo na yaar Duniya chhoti si hai. Enjoy your life.

Even we have heard so many things about Pakistanis but when I travel abroad to USA, Australia etc., I find them absolutely normal and so warm. The reality is much different from the propaganda.
Isn’t it love that logon ne aapka ek letter mujh tak pahuchaya hai through whatsapp and fans. Its love I think. What do you think? Yeh pyaar hai ki unhone mujhe aapko call karne pe majbur kar diya . Yeh abhi tak kisi journalist se life mein aise baat nahi ki. And I asked about it and maine decide kia ke main unse baat karungi. Aapne mere liye itna accha likha. I really liked it. I loved it. I am over-whelmed. You made my day actually. I just loved it. Normally log karte nahi hain aisa.

Pani phenk dun gi ??#Sabaqamar #khi #friends #offday

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

I am really glad that you feel this way. As I mentioned in the letter that there is a scene of you in a temple where you are folding your hands. Berozgaar critics yahaan bhi hain aur vahaan bhi. Did you have any apprehensions of criticism from the hardliners?
Even I was expecting may be kuch ho in some scenes but I guess the situations and the story of the film is such that no one noticed anything untoward. The response is amazing. I was apprehensive about the nightie scene but no one has raised any objections. I am just excited that people are praising the film, acting and everything.

What are your views on Zeenat Lakhani writer and Saket Chaudhary (Writer-Director) of Hindi Medium. They have woven a really class film together.
They are so passionate about work. Unka passion toh main words meh explain he nahi kar sakti. There is fire in Saket. So yes they are a very passionate bunch of people.

Pakistanis are generally big fans of Bollywood. What was your tryst with Bollywood and who were the Bollywood actors that you admired?
Irrfan for sure. I like actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Tabu. Beauty mein Madhuri Dixit. Baaki bollywood toh Bachpan se he dekhte aa rahe hain. Yahan bahut attraction hai bollywood ki, Hindustan ki. Main kaafi comfortable thi Irrfan ke saath bhi. Aise nahin laga ki arre bade se superstar jaise hain. He is very down to earth and sweet. So yes he is a nice person, very humble. I had a great time with him. I wish ki haalat better hojayen
