Well-Reputed Writers of Pakistani Drama Industry

Script writing is not an easy task; a good script requires tons of creativity, a great deal of time, command on the language, intelligence and most of all a good understanding of what the writer wants to show to his/her audience. No matter how star-studded a drama’s cast is and how skillful the director may be, without a quality script which is well-thought-out and put together intelligently, a drama can never make a lasting impact on the viewers.

Nowadays when viewers are spoiled for choice it is especially difficult to keep their interest alive and to ensure that they stick to a certain drama therefore the writer’s job today is more difficult than ever. Also, nowadays when production houses focus on content which will give them the ratings they desire instead of a script which will give those few viewers who tune into television to watch something which isn’t only entertaining but also meaningful, something worthwhile to watch, the writer’s job becomes even more complicated. Even with all these challenges there are still some writers who keep on giving their viewers dramas which leave a lasting impression on their minds. We are not saying that these writers always deliver, sometimes they disappoint the viewers as well but if we look at their career as a whole then it is quite apparent that they are talented and creative people whose writings come straight from the heart.

It takes a lot of hard work to have the kind of reputation that makes people tune into your dramas therefore we truly appreciate the effort all these wonderful writers put into their scripts. Here is a list of those renowned writers who continue to enthrall the viewers with their amazing stories year after year.

Noor-ul-Huda Shah

Noor-ul-Huda Shah is known for highlighting those issues in an impeccable manner which are usually not given the kind of treatment they deserve in Pakistani dramas. She is one of those very few writers in the drama industry who write with a specific purpose in mind and someone who has always succeeded in getting the right kind of response from her viewers. Her first drama Jungle aired in 1983, it questioned those traditional values in remote rural areas which were meant to subjugate human beings. The drama was a massive hit which was a huge success because it isn’t an easy feat to write dramas which have so much educational value yet they prove to be entertaining. This drama won Noor-ul-Huda Shah recognition and practically helped people who were in similar situations by changing mindsets. She wrote Marvi in 1993 and once again proved that dramas could serve a much bigger purpose than entertainment alone. Presently, drama serial Sammi also highlights different problems within the rural set up in Punjab and does so very intelligently.

Scripts which are deep, meaningful and impactful are the trademark of Noor-ul-Huda Shah, a writer who believes in quality and not quantity. Her scripts have always made a tangible difference and have enabled viewers who are not even acquainted with these practices to learn so much about the system. This is important because that is the only way educated people start talking about these issues and can some day make a difference if they choose to do so. Noor-ul-Huda Shah isn’t just any other writer but she is a woman of substance with a mission.

Mustafa Afridi

Even though Mustafa Afridi has a few dramas to his credit, he has recently blown all the Pakistani drama buffs away with the perfection of Sang e Marmar. Mustafa Afridi is one of those writers who challenge the trends that are prevalent in the drama industry and always tries to bring something different, unique and new to the table. Aseerzadi and Firaaq were very different projects that had so much going on for the characters. Sang e Marmar actually hit the mark in such a way for Mustafa Afridi that all the viewers definitely got a taste of what he is capable of when it comes to script writing and most certainly made him a writer to watch out for. Strong and unique characters have always been a part of Mustafa Afridi’s projects and he is one of those few male writers that do not believe in making the heroines cry. Though-provoking and meaningful dialogues add another dimension to his dramas because he has such a way with words through which he effortlessly conveys the crux of the situation.

Just when the viewers thought Mustafa Afridi will only bring intense and heavy dramas for them, he surprised everyone with a light-hearted romantic comedy Yeh Raha Dil. The best part about Mustafa Afridi’s dramas is that he doesn’t believe in making his characters completely black and white and adds so much of personality to them that you actually get to understand their thought process.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar is known for his powerful and soul-stirring dialogues and for characters which are unlike any other. Very few people know that Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar left his job as a banker so that he could pursue his passion for writing. Although his family never supported him but he knew he had what it took to be a successful writer and gave his family a reason to be proud of him not once but number of times.

His writings are honest which clearly show that he does not write to impress anyone but he writes because he has something meaningful to say. This is the reason why right from the Boota From Tooba Tek Singh and Landa Bazar days his dramas have not only mesmerized the viewers because of their uniqueness but also because they gave many actors new identities. A recent example of this was Afzal from Pyare Afzal, Hamza Ali Abbasi was known as Afzal for the longest time and the role he played won him recognition like never before. Pyare Afzal was one of the biggest hits of this decade because of the powerful script and characters which won the viewers over completely. She has done well and excelled at it all, from classic love stories involving pain, misunderstandings and then a happy ending to complex family ties and last but not the least talking about problems faced by women in a male dominated society. Hamsafar was the prime example of a family drama which hooked the viewers with a simple yet engaging storyline, Diyar-e-Dil was a breath of fresh air because of the way it translated intricate family ties on screen, Rehaii showed how powerful women really are and how they change their lives if they believe in themselves and Udaari was another feather in the cap of this talented writer.

For the first time Udaari took a different and positive approach and realistically showed how a rape victim turned into a survivor and brought her rapist to justice. Udaari set an extraordinary example for all those writers who were continuously showing women in a very different light. It had so many positive women role models and for the first time a writer showed how a rapist could be brought to justice. Udaari was applauded because of its mature approach towards the issue of rape and set a good example. Faiza Iftikhar

Faiza Iftikhar is one of those writers in our industry who has given a variety of dramas to her viewers and every other play guarantees a quality family entertainment because this is what she strives for, be it humor filled dramas or issue based stories, she makes them all thought-provoking and embeds a message within. The comedy factor surely sets her dramas apart from the rest as it is always added tastefully and never seems forced. Even though it is evident that Faiza enjoys writing comedy, this thing still doesn’t undermine the fact that she adds a lot of other flavors to her scripts just as skillfully which sheds a light on her understanding and knowledge of emotions and also her expertise in elaborating them on-screen.

Where Faiza gave the viewers fun dramas like Mannchalay, Aunn Zara, Akbari Asghari, Ek Nayi Cinderella, she has also given us intense dramas like Bilqees Kaur, Dil Lagi, Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai, Kuch Ankahi Si Batain and Mein Stara. Another thing highly appreciable about Faiza Iftikhar is that she is one of those writers who doesn’t believe in ‘damsels in distress’, therefore, the viewers never ever get to see helpless, hopeless, weak female characters in her dramas, recent examples were Anmol of Dil Lagi and Washma of Aap Kay Liye.

Well-Reputed Writers of Pakistani Drama Industry

Sarwat Nazir

A novelist turned drama writer who has a knack for depicting religious characters in her dramas in a very positive light. Sarwat Nazir’s best drama so far would be Main Abdul Qadir Hoon, which showed a transition of a young guy from the life of ignorance to the life of light and truth, which actually shed a light on Sarwat Nazir’s perspective and insight as a writer. Sarwat Nazir always makes sure to add such little details in her dramas that on the whole serve as meaningful messages by the end of the series. The way Sarwat Nazir adds situations which are closer to real life definitely make her dramas worth a watch as people find it easy to relate to everything because everything is elaborated in such a raw manner on-screen.

Recently, Sarwat Nazir gave another hit in the form of Besharam which was free from all the clichés that the viewers usually get to see in the dramas. Through Besharam, Sarwat Nazir not only showed how two headstrong people can make their marriage work but also how everything can be taken forward in a right manner. Roshan Sitara, Sirat-e-Mustaqeem, Aik Pal and Choti Si Zindagi are some of her well-received dramas.

“Fawad had a ball during the show; it was almost as if he has found the lost connection with his rockstar persona. He could be seen around the set, jamming with upcoming musicians, crashing the drum kit and having loads of fun,” sources told The Express Tribune.

“We’ve worked with so many leading artists in so many different shows but Fawad knows how to stay grounded while maintaining his star status. Not only did he enjoy the overall music environment but he would personally go and meet all the musicians and team members,” said a crew member.

“He is clearly the Simon Cowell of this show. He is very strict and often very mean with his feedback but knows what he is talking about. I mean he is not as technically sound as Farooq but still very thorough and stern with his judgments,” revealed a team member.

Faisal Rafi, the producer said, “It’s a kickass jury judging some exceptional talent from Pakistan,” Rafi told The Express Tribune. “The best part is that all three of them are hardcore music fans and they know what they’re talking about, that is why even bands that didn’t make the cut went home happy. There were a few exceptions but those were bands that had hired session players.”

Saba Qamar: Indian publications have given a verdict that my performance is far better than Mahira’s in ‘Raees’

We have seen many Pakistani celebrities making their way to India and making us proud with their big Bollywood debuts. Being extremely talented, Saba Qamar is receiving loads of praises from the neighbouring country for her Bollywood debut Hindi Medium.

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

Having worked in dramas like Main Sitara and Besharam last year, which won her a lot of appreciation from her fans as well as critics, Saba is gearing up for Hindi Medium which is all set to release on May 19. “I was never desperate to work in Bollywood though I aspired to do a movie across the border but only if I was offered a strong character and a main lead. My plays are widely watched in India and are equally popular. Irrfan had also watched my serial on YouTube and he recommended me to the director,” she told The Express Tribune.

“At first when I received a call from Irrfan’s manager, I thought it was a prank call but later the casting director called and offered me the role. The director wanted someone to portray a role like Kareena Kapoor Khan did in Jab We Met.”

Hindi Medium is releasing on the 19th of May !!!

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

“So, I had faith in the entire team that they will make something good,” she added.

“I had the best time shooting for the movie. It was an amazing experience. Everybody from the hero to the director to spot boy was so humble and gave me the utmost respect. Even the designers would address me as ‘Ma’am’, unlike in Pakistan.”

“I was given royal treatment. I was protected and pampered so much that I was put in the best five stars hotels. My mini bar would never end. They would ask me my favourite dishes and drinks, and anything I needed was arranged for me,” she stated.

“I never felt strange or alien in India. I am not scared of death. If my fate is to die in India, I will die there. In fact Irrfan would always say ‘Saba tou cheeti hay, kissi say nahi darti’. I really hope the issues between the two countries are resolved because I would love to work in Bollywood for all the respect and honour that I have received there. Mein do do hath jaon gee phir say Bollywood, jo nakhray meray wahan uthaye gaye aur mujhey saatwein aasman pay bethaya, I’ve never felt that in my own country,” she said.

Hindi medium is releasing on the 12th of May. Do go watch it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!❤️

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

Talking about her chemistry with Irrfan, Saba shared, “He is a superstar. I was so nervous on my first day of shoot but after one hour all my nervousness went away because Irrfan made me so comfortable. He and I shared a very strong on screen chemistry and we would hardly do more than two takes. I am by nature very rebellious and I said to myself I will either do or die here. I had to prove myself. I often would ask Irrfan about my shots and he would say, ‘Why are you asking me, you know better, tum tou mujh say bhi aagay nikal rahi ho’ and I would say, ‘App meri kit laga rahein hain’.”

“Ever since I have had a Bollywood stamp, all the top brands are chasing me for endorsements. Where were all the brands before I went to India. No one has ever approached me for the last thirteen years that I have been working. But I have gotten immense support from my colleagues such as Ahsan Khan, Mahira Khan, Ayesha Omar, Jami and Sarmad Khoosat. They even gave me a shout out on Twitter for my film. Even Hindustan Times and Pinkvilla have compared me to Mahira Khan and given a verdict that my performance is far better than hers in Raees.”

Talking about marriage plans, Saba added, “I have not found anyone yet and I cannot get married just for the sake of marriage, it’s boring. I have told my mother, I rather be married for one year happily than be married unhappily for thirty years.” Saba is currently shooting a biopic in which she will be seen playing a role of late social media sensation Qandeel Baloch.

Haalim – Chapter 1 Review

Nemrah Ahmed’s Haalim has started publishing – an episode a month – from this month and this was the first episode as well as chapter we got to read. :) It is getting published in Khawateen Digest and is also available online on Nemrah Ahmed’s official page.

The first episode was full of surprises and writer has done an excellent job in ensuring we continue reading this novel.

*Spoiler Alert*

So, the very first scene shows Haalim dreaming a dream and it aroused enough curiosity in me to continue. Dream was symbolic of something which we get to read in the last scene of this episode.

Then writer takes us to an office in Kuala Lumpur where Molia is seen telling his boss that he has traced where the laptop of their boss – which got lost somewhere by Anwer – is right now. And that he hired Halim, a private scam investigator for this job. Anwer tells him to do whatever is in his will to get the laptop back or he will fire him. He contacts Halim who at first shows some attitude then agrees to merely “help” him on getting 3 times as much money as before. He gives him profiles of Tangu Kamil’s workers to see who he can “buy” for getting the laptop back. The only profile which attracts him is that of Taliya Murad from Kashmir, Pakistan who’s a caring, loving, quite stupid and impetuous girl who works as a maid for Tangu and also cooks soup in a soup parlor. Her only weak point is her illegal status in Malaysia.

So, Molia uses it to threaten her but she refuses and tells Tangu Kamil of the incident who then properly looks everywhere for the laptop and tells the secretary to do the same. Laptop is produced from one of the drawers of study table. Tangu gifts some money to Taliya and tells to take the money from Molia as well which at first she’s reluctant to do as her pride in her “honesty” and “loyalty” will be shattered as Molia will think she’s a thief who betrayed her boss but Tangu convinces her. These qualities of hers impressed me so much that she became my favorite character at once. I liked her only to be surprised later :P She gives the laptop back to Molia at her soup parlor taking the money (not willing to) from him who taunts her of doing what she seemed to loathe the most. She feels hurt, writes resignation letter and leaves for her home.

… & here comes the plot twist! :D I was shocked when I read “welcome home Halim!”, haha! :D This seemingly innocent Taliya was the same person who was Halim for Molia, (took money as a scam investigator) (voice modulation helped to act as a male), then Taliya for him (took money for stealing back the laptop) and Taliya for boss Tangu (took money as a reward for loyalty)! :P She and a lady Liana – whom Taliya calls Datin (meaning grandma in Malay language) – work together as scam artists and have done many scams and thefts together. They were the ones who initiated it by stealing the laptop from Anwer and putting it in Tangu’s study room and finally giving back to those it belonged to and earned money three times.

That night they plan together their next theft. Taking laptop search as an excuse she had already made Tangu open his drawers in front of her whose code she could see as an image on book rack’s mirror. They intend stealing Mrs Kamil’s jewelry next on Sunday night his family has special guests coming.

That night they also talk about where they came from and how they met, just to remember old days. They met seven years ago on an airport when Taliya’s foster parents had gotten her married (nikkah) on Skype with a boy she had come from Lahore to Malaysia to live with. It is revealed Taliya has precognitive visions and dreams which help her decide what to do. She had her first vision that day on airport when her hubby was about to receive her. Liana was a worker who helped her feel better. She was being used as a courrier girl for money laundering by her husband and was oblivious to that, Liana helped her in safely getting out of the airport with money and then they used it to get divorce from him. Liana herself was probably living in an olds house those days. It is also revealed Taliya’s first memory is that of 17 yrs ago when she was 11 yrs old. She was walking between church’s desks, had a shabby dress on and a dirty face, in St Paul church, Malacca, Malaysia. She was admitted in an orphanage from where her foster parents belonging to Kashmir took her only to treat her as a maid when they returned to Lahore, Pakistan. Everyone tells her nothing about her could be found. Her name, family, where she came from, she knows nothing. But she believes her ethnicity is Malay. She also had this round symbol on her neck back as if it was heated. She had forgotten everything, probably due to some incident she doesn’t know of. She told everyone her name is Taliya bint Murad and so that’s her name.

So, after establishing the background of these characters, we move on to the next part where they put two and two together and get to know that a replica coin of old times (which Mrs Kamil has in her possession) and a bracelet of Queen – these two things they never stole every time they saw someone having it. Coincidentally! These two circulated among many different victims of their scams but never thought of picking. Liana joins the pictures of these two to show Taliya how these two join to make a “key”. And are broken parts of a gold key! Taliya then gets to remember how she had this key whose chain was wrapped around her arm as a bracelet when she was 11 and lady Maria who dropped her at orphanage must have taken it from her.

So, she tells lady Maria a fake cover story to get her to tell where that bracelet is. She admits she accidentally broke it and then sold it to a goldsmith to fend for Taliya. And that before she took it from her, she did utter a few words telling her name is Taliya and that this key is her father’s. Also, something on the lines of “villagers are in deep trouble, I’ve come here to rescue them.” And tells that no one came to claim her.

On the planned day, she succeeds in stealing the jewelry minus gold coin as Tangu Kamil’s family gifts it to Fatih Ramzil (guest who’s also Malaysia’s politician) right in front of her. Liana also calls her to tell the missing bracelet is now in Fatih Ramzil’s possession. The dream she saw, for the first time ever she interprets any of her dreams right! Now both the parts of key are in the same person’s possession so they will be doing a theft on “Malaysia’s next prime minister”!!!

Haalim - Chapter 1 Review

That’s where it ended and I liked reading it throughout. :) It’s going to be about, as it seems, dreams and their interpretations and I’m excited! There were many comic lines which amused me for example the point about Molia scared at the sight of his family picture in “dhoop” as his family will be “bay ghar” if he didn’t get the laptop back :D and Hailm AKA Taliya telling him to write it 555 times: “Halim KL (Kuala Lumpur) ka behtreen scam investigator hai aur main ainda us se ikhtilaf nahi karoon ga.” then Molia taking a page out of his file in front of Taliya to show her the missing laptop’s picture and Taliya reading the line which was written on a page which slipped a little outside and line could be read. :P

Haalim - Chapter 1 Review

Taliya said she doesn’t justify what she does but I caught her doing just that. She put the blame on her husband and then on her foster parents that had they kept her well fed and well cared for, she won’t have gotten used to lying and stealing to fulfill her needs. This heist will be her last – she says so. She dreams of getting a beautiful house at her favorite place and wants to do a big big robbery one last time! Also, after getting to know this bracelet originally belonged to her, she’s a little curious to know about herself too. There’s a hope through this bracelet she’ll meet her biological parents – a hope! A scary thing is, all those people who possessed these two things got ill, died of painful diseases. These things brought bad luck with them – that’s what Datin thinks and is scared. :O Also, since Taliya’s dreams and visions come true, usually bad ones, she thinks it’s not a blessing but a curse! Sad!

Haalim - Chapter 1 Review

I also liked everything Fatih Ramzil said about toheen e risalat and the role Muslims can play in order not to let that happen. Fatih dreams of a progressive Malaysia, he had a daughter Ariyana who died in childhood.

The first episode was screaming Nemrah Ahmed ;) as by now I and many others recognize her unique writing style.

Anyway, the first episode was a complete package and I loved it. Share your thoughts too! Thanks for reading!

Yeh Raha Dil Episode 13 Review – Beautiful!

Ohkay so, this episode of Yeh Raha Dil was a bit on the serious & slower side but I still had a great time watching it, because the writer has balanced it out by evolving the characters in such a way that we want to see more of them. The director has given each & every character an equal coverage which makes it a complete package. I like how with each passing episode we get to know more & more about the characters, like what they’re thinking about & what they’re going through, that is why their conversations are so important to be paid attention to because they put things into perspective. I love how Yeh Raha Dil has turned into a wholesome package, a complete family entertainment which just has such a good feel to it. I also like how it has both good & not teensy tiny bit so good characters because everything balances out & makes things even more interesting!

I will be completely honest, I still am not feeling the character of Hassan, like I do get that he is a very rigid, focused & serious sort of a person but yes, I enjoy his scenes because in them, we get to see the lighter more bubbly side of Hayat as she keeps on pestering him, in an attempt to make him understand that he has no escape from this & they all should try to co-exist. Other than that, when it comes to his character, I find him boring. I enjoyed how Hayat & Sidra kept on pushing all the wrong buttons because they knew it will rile Hassan up a bit more & that completely worked. Too bad that Hassan’s complaint didn’t make any difference & had zero affect on Hayat because she continued to do what she is good at, that was bothering him.

So, Fatima tried to make her daughter Nida understand that everything that Affaq was doing was seemingly for her but deep down, it was a plan that he was devising for Hayat to give her what was entitled to. Nida once again spoke about loving Zaki but she herself doesn’t understand if she is still in love or she just wants to steal him away from Hayat, since has has grown so insecure of her all of a sudden. I must say, I liked Affaq’s subtle approach for the first time, like he was taking care of his daughter Nida before anything else so that later he could ask for a favor from her. It showed that Affaq was trying really hard to be fair & just in dealing with both of his daughters, like even though his ulterior motive was to make Hayat happy but first, he wanted to take care of Nida so that she doesn’t feel unvalued or neglected. Fatima actually ruined Affaq’s plan because Nida might be naive, but Fatima isn’t & she knew exactly why Affaq was doing so much for Nida as he was actually planning to return everything to Hayat that belonged to her.

So, Hayat & Zaki finally got to have a serious conversation for the first time after Zaki opened up about what was in his heart. Zaki clearly told Hayat that he wasn’t interested in getting married to Nida anymore but I loved loved loved how Hayat put things into perspective for him. It isn’t like Hayat is playing hard to get or something, but she genuinely feels Zaki should get married to Nida because he was in love with her just a few days ago. Also, Hayat doesn’t want this friendship that they both share to be ruined, so for Nida’s sake & also for her friendship’s sake, which actually is very important to her, she told Zaki to think things through. I love how Hayat hasn’t reciprocated Zaki’s feelings, even though this is what I want to see happening eventually, but for now it puts Hayat in a very positive light that not even for once she has considered snatching Zaki away even after learning that he is not into Nida anymore & he has clearly fallen in love with her.

I think Zaki made a huge blunder by talking to Jimmy about Nida. I think Zaki should’ve taken responsibility for his feelings, like after Hayat told him to fix his scattered brain & feelings, he decided to take the matters in his hands but ended up approaching the wrong person. I do understand like I find it natural that since Zaki is so sensitive himself, he couldn’t hurt Nida by telling all this to her directly that is why he relied on Jimmy but it didn’t work. Even though Zaki did ask Jimmy to forget all of this, he is naive to not know that Jimmy will make the most of this situation.

I liked the preview of the next episode too where Nida will be making some moves to earn brownie points in front of Haroon, Affaq & even Zaki, like she will be playing mind-games with Zaki when he’ll be oblivious of the fact that Nida knows what he spoke to Jimmy about. I must say I love Ayesha Sana as Fatima in this drama, like she is so much fun, I just love how she rolls her eyes & emphasizes on smallest of details to put her message across. I also find it quite cute how Nida/Anam is always dolled up. The guy playing the role of Hassan is quite weak in acting, like even his dialogue delivery was poor & not that it makes much of a difference but since he had a lot of English words in his dialogues, he made it very obvious that he was finding it hard to say those words, so far he is the weakest link in terms of acting. I liked Ahmed Ali’s expressions in scene before he spoke to Jimmy, like it showed that he made a final decision & he was ready to convey it, those were minute but very clear expressions there! Yumna Zaidi as always was effortless & amazing. I missed Haroon’s scene or two though. Thank you so much Team Yeh Raha Dil for such a beautiful, feel good & beautiful beautiful beautiful drama, can’t emphasize enough. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yeh Raha Dil.

Will Fawad Khan Star In New Indian Show By BBC?

BBC is making a TV series based on the 1993 best selling novel ‘A Suitable Boy’, about four Indian families and with a no white actor cast, the audiences couldn’t help but think of handsome hunk Fawad Khan.

While no official statements have been made till now, LiveMint.com has listed down the actors who’ll be perfect for the 8-part series and the hearthrob tops the list for us. Fawad Khan has already proved his mettle with Pakistani dramas Daastaan, Humsafar and Bollywood movies Khoobsurat and Kapoor & Sons.

A Suitable Boy is set in post-partition India. The novel follows the story of four families over a period of 18 months, and centers on Mrs. Rupa Mehra’s efforts to arrange the marriage of her younger daughter, Lata, to a “suitable boy”.

The screenwriter for the series will be Andrew Davies, and Fawad will surely be the perfect choice for one of Lata’s suitors!

When Mahira Khan was not let go off easily in India so, why should we let you go off so easily? – An Immigration Officer Told Sara Khan

Sara Khan is a known television personality in India; after performances in soaps such as Bedaai and Susral Simar Ka, the actress became a fan favourite across the borders. Recently, she appeared in a high rated Pakistani drama, Beykhudi which allowed her to create a fan following on this side of the border too.

“Working culture is different. A few though yet major differences are there. Over there they don’t believe in creating sets at all. Every location is a real location. The makeup is also very natural. It doesn’t feel as if it is some shoot happening but like a real life thing, it’s so natural. After working in Pakistan I realised that realism is very important. The real incidents that they focus on are executed well in their shows,” said Sara speaking to Pinkvilla.

“I have met so any people out there who love India for its beauty and culture. They love Bollywood. In their cinema halls, most of our Bollywood movies run while on their TV sets, our shows are always playing.”

When asked if she faced problems in Pakistan, Sara replied, “I never faced any tension or stress at work. You know, my producers out there were very considerate considering I was the only Indian out there. I got more respect because I was an Indian.”

She then shared her unpleasant experience with an immigration officer and shared that the officer said, “When Mahira Khan was not let go off easily in India and was deported from the Indian airport at Delhi, so why should we let you go off so easily.”

Any message to fans from both India and Pakistan?

“That was the only incident that happened at the immigration counter, else nowhere did I face any kind of comparison or was held against the happening with Mahira Khan in India. In fact, outside, they all took every care of me. You know, I have been going to Pakistan for 6-7 months. This is my second show out there. The way we were unaware about a lot of things and relied on news channels, similarly, over there, people weren’t aware of the scenario faced by Mahira Khan and Fawad in detail. They too relied on news channels. I used to travel after 15 days to both the countries and see that things were pretty normal here and there as well,” she added.

When asked if she has any message for fans from both India and Pakistan?
Sara responded, “The fans who really want the talent on board in both countries, I want to thank them for supporting talent and to those who think ill about both the countries, please understand first and then comment on anything.”

Munkir Episode 12 & 13 Reviews – Cringe-worthy!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Munkir were boring & cringe worthy. All of a sudden the drama has taken the very typical turn where everything in it is about ‘Shaadi’ which didn’t happen after a lot of ‘Barbaadi’. The characters are hardly making any sense & the story is so pathetic that it can make you cringe, even if you ain’t paying attention to it. I watched these two episodes in less than 30 minutes & I am still cringing, so imagine the level of cringing of those who must’ve watched these two episodes from the beginning till end! Did I say these two episodes were cringe-worthy? Like seriously cringe-worthy?

All of a sudden, two grown up individuals Runa & Zain took a role of toddlers because that’s how their family members were treating them. Before this entire Daadi death fiasco, they both were treated as adults who knew the right & wrong & were capable of taking their own decisions but now, looks like their family members have deprived them of their decision making power because they believe they are incapable! The focus of these two episodes was on Zain’s marriage & how his mother & sisters blackmailed him, convinced him, pushed him & forced him to get married. Zain couldn’t keep up so he gave in. There was a lot of usage of taveez, wazaif & what not that made this possible, which left me baffled at the writer’s approach like what was he trying to sell here!?!

Rania is not on talking terms with Runa & I most certainly don’t get why, may be I didn’t pick that detail up because I am mostly forwarding the scenes that bore me, or may be they didn’t bother establishing the grounds for it. Runa was heard saying ‘apne hi ghar mai mujrim ban gai hoon’, which again I didn’t think made any sense because all of a sudden her father has become an overly protective father who is pampering Runa like she is an infant or an underweight newborn, so how has she become a mujrim? I don’t really understand why Jamshed has become this Jala Kata Jamshed who keeps on taunting Rania for behaving like Runa’s step mother, like that’s rich especially when it is coming from a father who had no idea if his only daughter Runa had her Nikkah the other night or not. Not sure what makes Jamshed think that Rania is responsible for everything that Runa is going through because if there was one person who supported Runa & stood by her through thick & thin, it was Rania & I don’t blame her because obviously she feels cheated for what Runa madam put her through!

Where is Gulrez by the way? May be the writer forgot to write some scenes for him or the director forgot to shoot those scenes that had him, like I find it ridiculous that Gulrez was used to call Runa & Zain’s marriage off where he abducted her & after that he is nowhere to be seen. Like this must be the 4th episode where he hasn’t made an appearance, so what was the fuss about & why did he abduct Runa in the first place when he didn’t even confess his love to her or didn’t even explain the reasons behind this move of his?

I find Majid’s character annoying, like even though he makes sense but the way he speaks about Runa as if he has done a thesis on her is so funny. He speaks about Runa as if she is some sweet, innocent Allah Ta’allah ki gaye, who has no idea why she came into this world. Majid keeps on brain-feeding Zain about her & he is making it hard for Zain to move on in his life, whereas when it comes to Runa, for her the entire engagement with Zain is like water under the bridge, that is why in a jiffy she decided to move to London, but Zain on the other hand is sulking really hard! Anjum continues to be annoying too where now she was forcing Runa to get back on talking terms with Zain, like seriously? Can someone please throw her out of my TV?

This drama isn’t making any sense whatsoever, not really sure what the writer was thinking (or not) while writing the script of this drama & what was his purpose behind showing a story like this? The preview made me cringe a bit more because Majid, who hardly has met Runa was now telling Zain that she was waiting for him? How does Majid know all this, like how well does he know Runa to be speaking with so much of surety about her? Please share your thoughts!

Sammi Episode 15 Review – Intense & Meaningful

Sammi has gradually won me over completely and I find myself talking (raving) about this play every time I have a discussion with anyone at all about Pakistani dramas. There are many reasons why Sammi holds a special place in my heart but the most important reason is that this drama focuses entirely on the issues which it aims to highlight, there isn’t a single track in the story which is there for “commercial reasons”, there is no forced love story and most importantly even without glamour this drama manages to make you look forward to it every single week. Sammi proves that a well thought out script which is executed skillfully will engage and educate the viewers even if there is no glamour involved. Although we have seen many of the actors in this drama serial playing a lot of different roles in their career but some of these actors are being seen in the most unusual and challenging roles of their career. Adnan Siddiqui is one such actor who is very often seen playing roles different from that of Rashid yet he nailed every single expression especially in tonight’s episode and I have to say that for me he was the star of the show tonight. I love the way the writer is showing the gradual development in his character, the reasons behind this change are also very convincing and logical. Madiha Rizvi is another actress who is more often seen playing important supporting roles but she always gives every role her best and this time around too she has done complete justice to her character. Even the child actor playing the chota chaudhry impresses you with his acting every time.

Sammi Episode 15 Review - Intense & Meaningful

Like every other episode of Sammi, this one too covered all the tracks in the story flawlessly. I really appreciate the fact that Sammi’s content has substance and there is substantial development in every episode. Sammi’s mother’s conscience did not allow her to let Waqas kill her. This went to show that while she was okay with giving Sammi away as vanni, she could not see her getting killed like that. Zarina also for the first time questioned the way her son was being treated and decided to draw a line! The way she looked at Salima suggested that whatever she was planning involved Salima as well, I am waiting to find out what her plan is. Gradually all these people who have slave mentality are questioning the way things are whether it is Rashid, Zarina or even Sammi’s mother.

Rehan Sheikh was absolutely remarkable as the Chaudhry who cannot get enough of belittling people and torturing them mentally. His character is etched-out flawlessly and he has owned it completely right from the get go. His dialogues clearly highlight the mentality of all such people who think they own other human beings and are so convinced that they are invincible. Although Chaudhrani is seen giving other people lectures on morality, the truth is that she is just as selfish as the Chaudhry. She is always looking out for her own interests and although a strong woman like her could do a lot more with all her wisdom especially because she knows the difference between right and wrong she is another person who is part of this system. I am waiting to see if her character will also go in a different direction in the upcoming episodes. Right now she is trying to instigate Rashid to kill Chaudhry.

Naheed’s track took another interesting and meaningful turn with this episode. I particularly liked her conversation with the doctor because it also had a strong message. The part about announcing the nikkah and keeping the copy of the nikkah nama was once again a message which was put forward in a subtle yet impactful manner.

Chandni’s scene was intense, now that she is all alone and she knows she is partially responsible for her son’s death, will she help Sammi in some way in the future or is this going to be the end of her track? I am waiting to find out.

Although this entire episode was intense and impactful but the last scene was the best! Loved the way it was directed and Adnan Siddiqui’s expressions were faultless. The preview of the next episode suggested that there might be hope for Sammi after all. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

“We must come together and fight for the rights of abused children,” Shares Ahsan Khan

Ahsan Khan is a name that is synonymous with versatile acting and unique projects. He fits into every role assigned, and his performance in Udaari won him 3 accolades this year. The actor who continues towards making a difference in the world took up a challenging role in Udaari and nailed it.

He recently won Hum Award for his performance in the high rated drama. However, Yasir Hussain’s child molestation joke at the ceremony caused an uproar in the media.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the Udaari actor said, “I urge people to channel their emotions towards addressing the problem of child abuse in Pakistan. The real tragedy is not a few flippant jokes; it is the sad fact that every day, more than 11 children in Pakistan report sexual abuse. The number of reports made is unacceptably high but, sadly, the actual number of children abused each day is much higher. “We must come together and fight for the rights of abused children not just in Pakistan but also all over the world.”

As the crowd stood up to give us a standing ovation, I was very happy, supremely grateful and incredibly emotional; yet I knew the accolades were not for me. People were celebrating an era in which Pakistan has built up the courage needed to bring unpleasant, troublesome and inconvenient issues to the forefront. Thanks to Udaari, a topic heretofore hidden and taboo, was discussed in homes all across Pakistan and all over the world. The team of Udaari took a risk and acted with tremendous courage when they undertook the project. As I accept the accolades and awards, I salute each and every person associated with Udaari. These are brave, courageous and daring people. I love them. I respect them. And I believe in them. These awards – and I am immensely grateful for them – are prizes not for Ahsan Khan but a veritable recognition of the tremendous courage that made Udaari possible. #uddari#saynotochildabuse#humtv#humawsrds#bestactor#bestactorinanegativerole#paaimtiaz#zebo#respect

“It takes a lot of courage to address problems that have, heretofore, been conveniently swept under the rug. I salute Hum TV for having had the courage to bring the subject of child abuse to mainstream television and each and every member of the cast and crew of Udaari for being part of a truly monumental project that was Pakistani media’s first significant step towards addressing the evil of child abuse,” he added.

“Performing such intense scenes was the most difficult part, I had always known and felt about child abuse facts, but only after reading the script and getting into the character I realized how disturbing the whole process was. There were times when I had sleepless nights just thinking about the abused children,” he stated. “In the beginning I didn’t realise the agony and pain until I actually met the victims and abused children whom gave me the shivers, thinking it would be nightmare if my own kids ever go through this turmoil”.

“I could feel the agony and vengeance then,” he said. “People would stop me in markets and ask ‘Aap ney kyun itna gandaaa role kya, ayenda mat karna’ and the worst would be

‘Nafrat hogai hai aap say, dil karta hai aap ko maaaren’. I would ask myself whether I had made a mistake in my career by choosing this character but as they say intentions matter and my intention was that even if I could change one life, the purpose would be served and I will be able to live in contentment and satisfaction.”

“Some of my co-actors called me child abuser, not realising how it could affect my personality. But, I wanted to send the message across, and today when I have won three awards in a row, I feel proud as this was not about me. It was about the taboo which we have to break and spread child abuse awareness,” he said.

Pakistani Government To Unveil Film Policy 2017 Soon

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb has revealed that the federal government will unveil Film Policy 2017 soon.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, the minister said that the aim is to revive the film industry and benefit the artists’ community.

“It will not be like a switch on or switch off that will fix all issues instantly. It will have its implementation time as well. I am trying to keep this policy very straight forward or two to three pages of policy or some bullet points which can make a difference at all level,” she said.

“It will not be some research document that will just have words and words as it should have actions.”

“This policy might not in its first stage address to all. I am just looking at short-term multiplier impact including provision of equipment and tax relief,” she added.

The government of Pakistan is determined to revive film industry in the country and is taking a major initiative to form a policy.

“Working in India isn’t a big deal but going to India aur apni aukaat se bahar hojana, that’s not right,” Says Reema

There’s a lot of stigma attached to celebrities who are or were once part of Pakistan’s entertainment industry and it cannot be easily brushed off. The actress who appeared in numerous films, performed at Lux Style Awards this year and stole our hearts. In an interview with Instep, Reema spoke about her performance, response, the career in Pakistan and India.

A post shared by Nomi Ansari (@nomiansari) on

“People kept asking me why I had disappeared for five years, after getting married,” she began. “I tell them that for five years I was living in a family that had no connection to the showbiz world. It’s not easy to win the trust of people who have no connection with showbiz. Firstly, you have to make your place, then you have to understand them and make them understand you. So it took me five years to gain the trust of my in-laws. They also gave me the confidence that I can do whatever I want; there are no restrictions because now they know me well.”

“When I came to Karachi this time, Sheroo (Hassan Sheheryar Yasin) and Unilever contacted me and I couldn’t say no to HSY,” she continued. “We are old friends and he’s an extraordinary person. He’s a designer, anchor, a good friend. I just couldn’t say no to him.”

“People have really praised me in all the articles I’ve read so far,” she said, visibly relieved. “I sent my husband the video and links to the articles. He replied, saying ‘I know that my Ree is different and I’m so proud of you.’ His approval was the biggest award for me. And I’m also very grateful to all the journalists who wrote so beautifully and appreciated my efforts because of which I got so much encouragement from my family.”

What would have happened had the reviews had been negative?
“Then things would have been very difficult for me. Maybe it would have been the last performance of my life.”

So what had Reema been up to for the last five years?
“If you look at the history of showbiz, you’ll find very few stars who get married outside the industry and are given so much respect,” she explained. “People outside showbiz very silently get married to actresses and you’ll see that years will go by and you will never see those actresses again. Because either they go as second wives, or in secret marriages. My experience was completely different. It was an arranged marriage. Secondly, I married a man who wasn’t married before and had no children. I married at the peak of my career. To take such a decision was not easy but it was the best decision.”

“In America I was offered a series from America Abroad Media, called Reema Ka Amreeka,” she continued. “It was the first year of my marriage and I convinced my husband that it’s a huge opportunity and I’ll get to see and learn a lot. It required a lot of travel. He allowed me.”

“I got a chance to attend Republican and Democratic conventions; I met President Obama. I got the chance to interview senators and congressman like Dan Burton. I interviewed Sherry Rehman and Hussain Haqqani and got a chance to hear their point of view on our foreign policies. It was a very mixed sort of a program, which went on air in several countries.”

Reema’s Amreeka went down well and in 2014 the AMA gave her an award. She made a speech in front of a huge audience, including dignitaries from the Pentagon, she shared. This was an award that even Aamir Khan had received.

“That was a good start for me,” Reema reminisced. “I came to Pakistan then and did two very small modeling assignments; they were lawn ads. And then very silently, I went back without making any public appearances. During this time, I got TV and film offers but I kept apologizing and turning them down. In 2014, I got pregnant. I was excited to be a mother. I was enjoying life as a wife and a daughter in law but when I became a mother, that was an out of this world feeling that I cannot describe. I had a healthy son and my life started revolving around him.”

“When my son turned two, I celebrated his first birthday in Pakistan,” she narrated. “I met Shaan, Gulam Mohiuddin, Zeba, Babra jee, Anjuman jee. They all said the same thing; they told me to get back to work. I told them that my son was too young.”

How difficult was it for Reema to give up a life of financial independence and stardom?
“I’m extremely passionate about everything I do but I don’t use my patience easily,” she acknowledged. “When I got married, I had a 3 crore contract with Geo News; they had signed exclusively with me. I was going to get 15 to 18 lakhs every month. For two years, this was going to be my fixed income. I had a very strong association with Unilever; I had done the most number of Lux commercials. During my time, since 1992 till 2013, I was the ambassador for Lux. It was an exclusive contract for their regional campaign. In 1997, there was an ad in which Juhi Chawla and Raveena Tandon were there from India and Meera jee and I were from Pakistan.”

What was it like meeting Meera after so long? Meera made a very bold, gold and glamorous appearance at the Lux Style Awards and she was seen chatting with Reema.
“I’ve met her on and off. She always finds me somehow. Somebody asked me to describe her and I said she is an innocent girl. Unko maafi hai. There are some people who know how to be in showbiz, how to stay relevant and how to stay in the news and Meera jee knows how to do that. I never get angry at anything she says. There were instances when she would say things about me but I would never respond because I like everything about her.”

Reema was part of Lollywood at its peak and then there was a gap where we saw nothing. Now the industry is reviving again. How did she feel about the new films?

“Some people go abroad and get degrees in films,”
she replied, “but experience teaches you something which degrees do not. From the age of 15 till now, I’ve learnt so much because I’ve worked with the top directors and I’ve learnt that the most important thing is screenplay. Nowadays, you see a lack of screenplay in films. The big screen needs depth and a tempo. Nowadays the scenes in our films just go on and on and on. That’s the tempo of television, not film. But something is better than nothing. There was a time when nothing was happening and now we have something so we should appreciate it. It’s a very healthy thing. You should give positive criticism so that people can work on their mistakes.”

“When people talk about the old days, purana sau din naya nau din,” she continued. “That’s why those films used to stay in theatres for two years and nowadays films only last for two weeks. It is a great thing that films are being made but I would like to say that when TV people make films, they should seek help from the film people and try to benefit from their expertise. They might not speak English like them but they have experience and knowledge. They know what the demand of the big screen is. 99 per cent of old school directors can’t speak fluent English but they have the sense of theatre, of the 35 mm, which is why they were so successful. Directors today speak fluent English but don’t have that experience.”

Have you seen any films yet?
“I watched Asim’s film (Ho Mann Jahan) and I watched Bin Roye. They were both good but were very slow and lacked screenplay. That said, I’m glad that today a lot of people have the opportunity to make films and they’re keeping cinema alive.”

What else does the film industry need to do to improve, I asked, bringing up the growth of Bollywood.
“The Indian film industry has expanded a lot; they’re ruling the world. Raj Kapoor set the pace for them when he went to Russia and Europe and distributed their films for free and set the foundations for his film. They still give their songs and films for free so that people get a sense of their culture and lifestyle. It becomes an addiction.”

“Today our population is mostly made up of the youth, this is a great thing for us,” she continued. “But I’m so sorry, does our youth know who Babra is? Who Waheed Murad is? They’ll know the name but they won’t even recognize their faces. I honestly have experienced this. Why? Why don’t our channels play old films? There is no archive or studio for our old films. No place where we’ve preserved the work of our seniors. Even today, Raj Kapoor, Amitabh, Shammi Kapoor films are being watched on Indian channels. We have nothing like that here.”

Reema was offered several opportunities to work in India but she was one of the few people who refused.
“Working in India isn’t a big deal but going to India aur apni aukaat se bahar hojana, that’s not right,” she said passionately. “When you come back to your own country and demand a ridiculous sum of money, that’s not right. The reason I never worked there is that the day the Hindu fundamentalist stands up, woh doodh se makhi ki tarha utha ke phenk dega. And that’s what happened.”

“I am saddened by what happened with Fawad and Mahira,” she continued. “But you should prepare yourself when going to India that you will be asked to leave any day. There are good and bad people everywhere. There are some welcoming people and there are such conservative people who will never endorse any Pakistani cricketer/ singer/ actor. You see, Nestle signed Sania Mirza in Pakistan. Name one Pakistani who India has signed for their endorsements.”

Why do we allow Bollywood stars for our ads then?
“This pinches me a lot as well! We’re so patriotic but then why don’t we ever show patriotism? There should be a cohesion between our words and deeds. That’s why our country doesn’t succeed the way it should. Because we have too much corruption in ever sector. The day we fix ourselves, no power in the world can beat us.”

Was she planning to enter politics?
“No way. I have gotten lots of political offers from all parties. I’ve met all the politicians but I personally have no interest.”

Which party did she feel would save Pakistan?
“No party will save Pakistanis; only the awaam can save themselves. Till we don’t respect ourselves and our country, nothing will happen. People ask me, who has the biggest hand in your success, and I said ‘Reema’. If I lose from myself, nobody in this world can make me succeed.”

“I’m constantly working on myself instead of comparing my life to others,” she said. “Our culture is lost somewhere. I live in DC and I feel the community there, those Pakistanis are more patriotic and keeping our culture alive more than those living in Pakistan. We always have to speak English. Are you only considered educated if you speak English? I had to speak in English at the LSAs even though I wanted to speak in Urdu. Don’t forget your own clothes and language. Our bloggers are to be blamed as well. They’ll make fun of women who’ll wear shalwar kameez by saying ‘Oh, it looks like she’s come to a shaadi!”

“Last year I attended an awards show and my friends convinced me to wear a yellow Asim Jofa gown on the red carpet . I felt so uncomfortable. People were criticizing my clothes. I knew it because I could feel it myself. So I went backstage and changed into Sheroo’s sherwani and wore a dupatta with it. People should do what feels natural to them. In our time, everything was genuine. We had no Botox, no photoshop, no hair extensions. Today everything looks very glamourous but isn’t genuine. What they say isn’t genuine. I’m not saying that everyone is like that but the majority is.”

What is your plan to return as an actor, director, producer?
“I intend to do that but I need some time; maybe six months to a year. My son is very young right now. But when he grows up and I get the permission from my husband, then I will see. My husband is very supportive. Definitely, I would love to.”

What about Angels Within, the film she was apparently working on?
“Angels Within is a documentary film,” Reema explained. “It’s not a commercial feature film. It’s about physicians and doctors who are serving without considering races and cultures. My aim is to now interview international celebrities along with our own,” she concluded, with an eye on the future.

I really admire her and look up to her a lot. I want to be on that level. I’m in talks with a TV channel right now and if that works out then I’ll start from Pakistan and then my effort is to interview the Canadian Prime Mister or the likes of Michelle Obama. And they won’t just be interviews, there will be a lesson in them as well.”

Wouldn’t she be interested in interviewing Donald Trump?
“I think that’s one man who’s out of my league,” she laughed, before signing off.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai Episode 5 Review – Lackluster

The first episode of Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai was mind-blowing, the second one was entertaining and made me inquisitive, the third one was somewhat interesting, the fourth episode had its good and bad points and this fifth episode was strictly okay. So far, the writer and the director in particular have failed to give the viewers the kind of screenplay which would keep them glued to their television screens. The personality traits of the main leads are being revealed bit by bit therefore the viewers need a lot of patience to sit through this one. Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai hasn’t really taken off just yet, I hope that it will eventually become more interesting. The ever-present sad background score in this episode and added melodrama even in situations where it wasn’t needed made some of the scenes difficult to connect to because the emotions seemed forced. Such scenes also give a depressing feel to the drama even though right now the story is not very serious or depressing. The actress playing Maheen’s mother is a complete misfit in the role and Jia’s track is unappealing at the moment. I am a big fan of Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s dialogues but somehow the way some of these dialogues were delivered in tonight’s episode was disappointing and some of the philosophical bits didn’t quite fit in.

The entire situation which eventually lead to Ami begum opening Waqar’s sling was interesting but it wasn’t directed skillfully. Eventually when Waqar started bleeding, the scene was difficult to watch but at the same time it was quite realistic. The viewers found out more about Waqar’s character in this episode; he does not believe in falling in love because apparently people in England don’t have the time to fall in love! Waqar is westernized and very different from rest of his family. Maheen felt sorry for Waqar for the first time and was genuinely disturbed after the incident but even then she did not forgive him. Gulrez appeared in the first 5 minutes of this episode wanting to talk to Maheen but he never made it to her room. Later on, his conversation with Waqar revealed a great deal about his personality and the differences in their personalities. They are like two opposite sides of the pole. This episode clearly showed that Waqar has absolutely no feelings for Maheen just yet. I am glad the foxy is out of the picture for now and I am pretty sure it was used to show Gulrez’s personality; he gets attached to things and then it is very difficult for him to let go. Shehzad sheikh was definitely a great choice for playing this role.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai Episode 5 Review - Lackluster

Neelam’s visit to the mazar and the flashback scene once again showed what effect Maheen’s refusal could have on Gulrez and how concerned Neelam was for him. Honestly speaking now after watching these 3 episodes, I am thinking, it would have been so much better if the first episode was different and we started from the present! I find myself continuously assuming things which isn’t always fun especially because naturally it will take weeks for the whole story to be revealed.

This episode should have ended with Gulrez finally telling Maheen how he felt about her instead of Jia’s scene with her father! Am I the only one who isn’t interested in Jia’s track at all? I find her terribly annoying so far. As a whole, the magic that I was expecting from this episode and even from the previous one was completely absent.

How many of you watched this episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

People’s Reaction To Qandeel Baloch’s Upcoming Biopic

Saba Qamar recently confirmed in an interview that she was going to be playing the role of Qandeel Baloch in an upcoming biopic which will tell the story of the deceased. The biopic promises to be an “extraordinary story of an ordinary girl”. Urdu1 also made a biopic based on the life of fighter pilot Marium Mukhtiar few months back. Nina Kashif who is at the helm of affairs believes in doing something out of the ordinary but this time around her attempt to do so isn’t being welcomed by the general public for many reasons.

People's Reaction To Qandeel Baloch's Upcoming Biopic

Firstly, most people think that Qandeel Baloch wasn’t a victim of honor killing therefore saying that this was the story of a girl who was killed in the name of honor is wrong. Honor killing was used as an excuse to hide the actual cause behind her murder. Secondly, people are saying that Qandeel Baloch’s life was not exactly heroic therefore glorifying someone who was not a hero in their life is wrong. Although Saba Qamar said that the makers were not going to glorify her but then why make a biopic if they think that she does not deserve to be glorified? Thirdly, people are questioning if the reason for this biopic is that controversial content gets more ratings because there are many more inspirational personalities like Abdul Sattar Edhi, Amjad Sabri and Junaid Jamshed who recently died so why can’t the people at the helm of affairs highlight their life instead of that of Qandeel Baloch? Also, let’s not forget Mashal Khan whose story and tragic end deserves more attention.

The news of this biopic has already started debate all over social media and does make you wonder about the real reason behind this project, especially when such big names like Umera Ahmed, Saba Qamar and Surmed Sultan Khoosat are associated with it.

Here are some of the comments which show how people are reacting to this news!

Shahid Afridi Reveals The Most Unfriendly Indian Cricketer

Shahid Khan Afridi, also famously known as Lala and Boom Boom Afridi has remained one of the most popular cricketers, not only in Pakistan but all over the world.

A post shared by Shahid Afridi (@safridiofficial) on

In a column for ICC, Afridi writes “highly entertaining match between the two traditional rivals, who have a rich cricketing history between them.”

“Contrary to popular belief, India and Pakistan players get along very well. Of course, there are exceptions like Gautam Gambhir, who dare I say isn’t the friendliest.” Afridi wrote in the column. “We are unlikely to be found together at a coffee shop anytime soon.”

“We had a heated exchange on the field some years ago and it made headlines all over the world. While I have moved on in life as I feel these things are part and parcel of the game, Gautam for some reason can’t get over it. Good luck to him!”

“While Gautam is clearly an exception, I have enjoyed excellent relationships with Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh. The three are one of my best mates and we have some wonderful memories together from the times when both the sides used to play and tour each other on a regular basis.”

In 2007, Afridi and Gambhir had an argument during an ODI match hosted in Kanpur.

I’m Going To Be Playing Qandeel Baloch In A Biopic, Confirms Saba Qamar

The Hindi Medium actress, Saba Qamar is riding high on the horse of success. She has appeared in a number of television shows and advertisements in Pakistan. The starlet will be back on our TV screens with a new project called Baaghi, where she will play the role of late social media sensation Qandeel Baloch.

I'm Going To Be Playing Qandeel Baloch In A Biopic, Confirms Saba Qamar

“I am going to be playing Qandeel Baloch in a biopic,” Saba reveals to Images. “I have cut my hair in order to play her,” says Saba. “It’s going to be exciting.”

The biopic is a Paragon Production, produced by Nina Kashif, General Manager of Urdu1.

“We want to tell Qandeel’s story in a very sensitive way,”
says Nina. “We do not want to glorify her nor do we want her to look pitiful. She was a victim of honor killing and this is what we will particularly be highlighting. The story has been written by Shazia Khan, the screenplay is by Umera Ahmed and Farooq Rind will be directing.”

Besides Saba in the lead role, the cast also includes Sarmad Khoosat, Ali Kazmi and Osman Khalid Butt.

A post shared by Saba Qamar (@sabaqamarzaman) on

When asked how does Saba feel about playing Qandeel, a figure who divided opinion with her social media presence?

“An actor is not defined by boundaries and I am not afraid at all,” Saba says “Qandeel was a victim and a fighter and somebody needs to tell her story. She was a woman who went from place to place trying to find work for herself. She tried to work in transport, read devotional naats on TV but wherever she went, she was misused by people. It was only much later that she chose to make videos on the Internet. And she did all this and earned money and used it to support her family. Her family didn’t have any problems taking money from her but they felt that it was all right to turn around and kill her in the name of honor.”

“Qandeel represented the double standards that exist in our society,” continues Saba. “She had the courage to expose how two-faced people could be. There were many people that condemned her in the name of religion but tell me, doesn’t religion tell us to abide by many things? How can we choose to selectively follow what we find comfortable and attack anybody who tries to break free from the norms that we choose to set.”

“I am so proud that I ventured out of my country with a ‘dhang ki (decent) film’. Of course, I was excited to be working opposite Irrfan, but I didn’t feel the urge to scream ‘Oh my god!’ or behave like a fan-girl. If he’s an actor then so am I. Having said this, he is an incredible actor and has tremendous screen presence. There would be absolute flurry on the set when he was about to arrive. He used to be very amused by my nonchalance and called me Bindaas.”

“I saw the movie and it has the makings of a complete hit. While watching the first-half, I laughed several times. During the second-half, I cried. I am looking forward to its release.”

“Let them follow,” shrugs Saba. “Everyone has to die someday. I’d rather die after doing something worthwhile.”

Titlee Episode 16 Review – Interesting!

Although there has been no character development in this play at all in all these weeks but even then all the characters have their own charm. I was however hoping that the story will take a different turn from here but it seems like this is going to be one of those dramas in which the person responsible for putting everyone through hell will be getting away with a lot more than we thought she would be. After watching this episode and the preview of the next one, I have very little hope now that Nayla will ever learn her lesson. Apart from characters which are very interesting and situations which are realistic and easy to connect to, I really like the way this drama has been directed. I love how the director makes sure that in critical situations everyone’s reaction is covered by focusing on the expressions and not relying on dialogues all the times.

Ahmed’s parents are turning out to be my most favorite characters because they are one of a kind. It is refreshing watching in laws who will do anything to make their son’s marriage work even though their daughter in law has tested their patience more than once. They do not compromise because they are naive but they do so because they believe in going out of their way to make relationships last. It shows how they were brought up and what a different perspective they have of life. They are not vengeful or egoistic. There are times when they get annoyed, impatient or disappointed but their priorities never change. I loved Abid Ali’s expressions when Ahmed’s daughter asked him if he was going to stay with them forever. Ahmed’s reaction to the whole situation is realistic as well and completely in line with his character. He is a loving and caring human being but he finds it really hard to live with someone like Naila for obvious reasons.

Titlee Episode 16 Review - Interesting!

Naila clearly wanted Ahmed to stay with her but just like always she was not willing to change her attitude at all. Naila has always used Ahmed and she still does not even like or respect him after all these years which is why it is very difficult for her to make compromises. It is funny how Naila always sleeps peacefully and enjoys her outings no matter what is going on in her life, she puts her own pleasure before everything else. There is no room for other people in her life unless all these people do everything according to her terms and conditions.

I really enjoyed watching this episode as well, it was entertaining, well directed and all the actors fit perfectly in their respective roles. The preview of the next episode suggested that Naila will fall for Emad Irfani’s character – he is the perfect candidate, very good looking! Naila has been shown as a shallow person for whom looks are more important than anything else and she has clearly not “moved on” yet! She is still looking for her prince charming even though she is married and has two kids! I am waiting to find out how the story unfolds in the upcoming episodes. I doubt that Naila’s character will change now therefore it remains to be seen how she will ultimately pay for all these blunders and for taking people who love her for granted.

All in all, the event has been cancelled due to terror threats received over the participation of Pakistani celebrities.
