Teri Chah Mein Last Episode Review – Khatam Shud!

0

I’ll be honest. I was looking forward to watching how the last episode plays out. While a small part of me tried to be prepared for a cliché and predictable ending where all is forgiven and everyone lives happily ever after, I did deep down think that the way this drama has been presented so far we would be saved from such an ending. I inched through the episode like someone treading in the dark all the while thinking you may bang into a wall. While I had thought I might need to dig into the typical idioms bag such as ‘reap what you sow’, ‘what goes round comes around’ (you get the idea) – I was instead presented with a rushed sermon on how dare women try to dream and the only ‘idiom’ that comes to mind is – what the hell?

I was left guessing till the end how things will fare out – I will give the writer that. But the whole idea of a woman berating herself for daring to think of herself instead of caring what society wants her to think and then her daughter and all confessing how they had been wrong and Mehwish had the right to dream and do what she pleases with her life – fell flat. So this is where the writer was getting with all this. While I, personally had no issue with Mehwish remarrying and that too a younger man what failed to get through to me was the fact that she would let it be the man her daughter was engaged to and then moreso, her attitude later and how she treats Zara. So even if the writer may have been trying to present a liberating perspective for how women should be treated, it went haywire.

pic1

I kept hoping for a heart to heart, an emotional interaction between Zara and her mother. Didn’t happen. And that stood out like a sore thumb for me – the lack of emotion and feeling between the two. Yes, Zara was worried about her mother and wanted to lay her life down just to have her live and Mehwish wanted to end her life so she could put Zara out of her worries – very noble and very honourable, yes, yes, but not once were there any hugs, any heartfelt dialogues. Zara’s speech at the end which seemed to give Mehwish some relief was not very convincingly delivered but oh well, maa tau Mehwish hai and she accepted it so who am I to complain,eh?

Faisal ‘inn ko, unn ko’ mourn kar kay will go back to Amber. If there was one thing I had been hoping for it was for Faisal to suffer at least in some way, and no those few tears do not count! I guess the whole idea had been to show how a woman must suffer the consequences for daring to tread a new path but where this whole story had been so controversial surely there could have been some surprises come Faisal’s way. By the way, Farhan Saeed had in my opinion fast become quite an actor to reckon with but his acting fell short in today’s episode. His bland reaction to the news Mehwish has cancer while I could have shooed away by saying he was shocked still felt very odd for announcing the next door neighbour’s cat had disappeared may have garnered more of a reaction, methinks!

This has to be one of Samina Ejaz’s lesser evils, I mean, less painful projects for save a few episodes the drama did have its interesting moments. And the biggest plus is that it has gracefully ended on the 18 episode note. While Maria Wasti is an actress who delivers effortlessly I really could not help noticing her makeup which remained quite intact till probably the last few scenes. The scene when she returns from the hospital with her make up intact and then the camera shows Chachi’s face (all dolled up) then Zara’s (all dolled up) and then Tahir’s (all dolled up) – yes, Tahir too! LOL.

pic2

Farhan Saeed acted well through out which is why I expected more from him in the last episode and while it is not as if he was wooden but personally, I felt he could have done better. Saboor Ali as Zara has been very convincing but while she has given up the hoarse screams it seems she has substituted that with another annoying habit, something I could not help noticing which is that she purses her lips at the end of every sentence and I found that a bit distracting. Not being overly critical but well, it sort of took away the edge of what could have been a more impactful scene at times, I felt. But besides that I can not believe I watched an entire drama starring Saboor Ali without wincing at her scenes, for I had almost believed that would not happen after Bhai.

Thank you to the readers who took out the time to read these reviews and contribute to the discussions especially Fatima, mrsmehmood, Fizza and Be La. No more Big Bang, Samina Ijaz, Saboor Ali and Faryal Mehmood for me for a long, long time though! What did you all think of this last episode? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Shehrnaz Episode 4 Review – Ayeza Khan Steals The Show!

So far Shehrnaz is turning out to be a pretty decent drama which definitely has more highs than lows. Ayeza Khan and Sajid Hassan yet again stole the show completely in tonight’s episode. Ayeza Khan is entirely into her character making it very easy for the viewers to connect to Shehrnaz. She has translated Shehrnaz’s (over)confidence, her energy and enthusiasm impeccably on screen. While her confidence is endearing but it does seem like she might have to compromise on a lot more than she is willing to compromise on. I am still wondering why the designer’s tantrums are being given so much screen time but I have a feeling that she will have a bigger role to play in the story. Sherry’s intentions were revealed in tonight’s episode as well. He might have put the ring on Shehrnaz’s finger but he is still the free bird he was before. Shehrnaz and Sherry’s relationship never grew on me therefore Ayeza Khan will have to try extra hard to make me feel for her character if this relationship comes to an end. The preview of the next episode suggested that Sherry has a new love interest and he will probably back out of the commitment he made to Shehrnaz. Watching Shehrnaz getting infuriated over getting the offer for a side role went to show that she was naive and wasn’t willing to start her career with a small role. She only wants to be a heroine, nothing more and nothing less.

KK’s offer did not come as a surprise at all because it was something which was revealed in the promo of this episode. Shehrnaz’s reaction however was truly gratifying and in line with her character. Once again Ayeza Khan breathed life into this particular scene; the viewers could feel just how upset Shehrnaz was to hear what KK had to offer. KK has taken Shehrnaz up like a challenge, he wants to win her over at any cost because he has never met another woman like Shehrnaz in her entire career. Aly Khan was also very convincing as KK; he is someone who is used to getting his way and he thinks he can finally win Shehrnaz over with flowers and gifts. Sherry’s family was completely missing from tonight’s episode, I just hope that the director and the writer keep them in the loop as well. Although Sherry isn’t my favorite character in the show but covering his relationship with his family is just as important as covering his college life. One of the reasons why this character isn’t the least bit appealing is that the viewers have only been shown one aspect of his personality.

fotorcreated

Shehrnaz on the other hand is a well-defined character played faultlessly by Ayeza Khan; her expressions, body language, her get-up and her dialogue delivery make you look forward to her scenes. Also, not only is Shehrnaz’s relationship with her father an integral part of this drama but her father’s character too has been shown on screen in such a way that you are just as interested in his story as that of Shehrnaz’s and there are times when you feel actually more for him than you do for Shehrnaz. Sajid Hassan obviously put in a great deal of effort to make this character different from every other character he has played till date and the director too has created the perfect setting for bringing his and Shehrnaz’s character to life. You can totally see him as a struggling tailor in those clothes and working endlessly in the stitching unit. Shehrnaz and her father’s home too is a cozy place which Shehrnaz might not want to live in for the rest of her life but both of them share some great moments there. The scene between Shehrnaz and KK was shot really well too.

Overall, this was another interesting episode of Shehrnaz which made me wonder what is going to happen in Shehrnaz’s life next and whether she will ultimately become part of the set-up she was seen questioning in tonight’s episode or does the team has something different in store for us?

Hamza Ali Abbasi Will Be Hosting A Show On Bol TV

0

hamza11

Hamza Ali Abbasi,  AKA the King of social media who took over social media with his controversial Facebook status and tweets, will be hosting a show on Bol TV. His first time hosting experience didn’t turn out to be successful at all as he was banned from the Ramadan Transmission that he was hosting on Aaj TV, by Pemra for holding discussions on the Ahmadi community and blasphemy laws during his show.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qWfw5tiAoE

The Pyare Afzal actor, posted a video on Facebook captioning it; “It is time to get rid of the notion that being political or talking about politics is taboo if you are not a politician… Being political is not a profession, not a career… it’s a duty, a necessity.”

Nothing has ever stopped Hamza from bringing up sensitive issues and giving his opinion on controversial matters. Even after being banned on Ramazan Hamara Emaan for discussing Ahmadis, he thinks that such topics should not be taboo.

At the moment, we think that one-word description of how Hamza’s show going to be is “Controversial”. Just can’t wait for it!

App Ke Liye Episode 23 Review – End It Pleaseee!

0

Ohkay so, looks like things are about to wrap up & that gives me joy thinking that this drama is coming to an end soon hopefully. I think it’s high time they should end it because they have almost covered the entire story & if there’s something left, it is Washma & Shaheer’s reconciliation.

So, Shaheer already knew everything that Nishat & Imdad were upto, but being a thorough gentleman & someone who didn’t want to put his sister & brother in law down, he stayed quiet, thinking that may be some day they themselves will realize that they were wrong, but it just didn’t happen. It was actually a relief to know that Shaheer knew that everything Washma was saying was true & she wasn’t fabricating a lie against Imdad. Shaheer finally spoke the truth but still didn’t say as much as he should have because he still respects Nishat enough & may be he still believes that it is Imdad who is wrong but Nishat has never wished ill upon Shaheer. I am sure Shaheer’s trust will shatter once again when he will find out that it was because of Nishaat that his wife Abeera left him!

I liked the fact that Washma took a stand against Shaheer, it was like she had some self-respect & knew that she wasn’t going to die without him, so she stopped her family from intervening in her personal matter, because it would’ve made her look weak & it would’ve turned her into a bechari who couldn’t fight her own battles. Washma knew that Shaheer was wrong, that is why she stayed firm on the decision & didn’t even think about going back as she wasn’t wrong in the first place & she was only trying to help her husband!

Areesha’s intervention came as a pleasant surprise, it looks like she has finally understood that Nishat wasn’t such a well-wisher as she posed to be & she never wanted Shaheer to have a life partner because that way his wife had become entitled to his wealth, that is why Areesha understood Nishat’s wrongdoings & decided to take matters in her hands. I liked how Areesha decided to speak to Shaheer in order to make him realize that sending Washma away was a wrong decision on his part, also Areesha spoke to Washma in order to tell her the truth about what Nishat has done in the past as she was doing it again but this time with Washma.

Looks like Nishat will soon be left alone because Imdad will show her, her right place. Imdad knows that if Nishat can deceive her brother, who trusts her blindly, then she can deceive anyone, that is why Imdad rubbed the reality on her face & chose to ignore her demand of apologizing to Shaheer. Imdad knows that Nishat cares about money, may be more than maintaining a healthy relationship with Shaheer & she still wants to enjoy a chunk of his wealth, which she may not get if Shaheer’d disown Imdad. I am sure it will be Imdad who will tell on Nishat because he knows he has already been exposed so he has nothing to lose, but the one who will get affected by it the most will be his wife Nishat!

Overall, this episode was decent or may be I felt this way because the precap suggested it might end soon if not next week. Let’s see. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aap Ke Liye!

Moray Saiyaan Episode 03 Review – So Far So Good!

0

Ohkay so, this episode of Moray Saiyaan was interesting too. I like watching this drama because it qualifies as a lighthearted entertainment. The cast is appeasing to look at & the locations are breath-taking. At this stage, the drama is not too dense nor the situations are too serious, so for me, Moray Saiyaan is the sort of a drama that I can sit back, relax & enjoy watching.

This episode mainly covered the budding relationship between Ghaziyan & Zubaria. Ghaziyan has his sights on her & he is not ashamed to admit that, however Zubaria has other priorities in mind. The most important thing for Zubaria right now is to get educated & also to not do anything that would compromise on the trust her father has on her. Zubaria knows that it has taken her family a lot to allow her to pursue her education while living alone in a hostel, so she most certainly can not afford to divert her attention on something else.

Ghaziyan got a chance to spend more time with Zubaria but what I liked the most about the entire thing was that like a true gentleman, Ghaziyan introduced himself to Zubaria’s family. Zubaria knew that her sister in law Afshan might create some issues but she also had an idea that her father & brother won’t mind because Ghaziyan wasn’t a complete stranger as he was Gul Zeb’s nephew.

Zakia is someone who has harbored a lot of grudges in her heart over the years & during one of her conversations, it felt like she also blames her brother Waris for her failed marriage. What I deduced from that conversation was that may be Kabeer was already married or may be he had a son but he chose not to tell to his friend Waris & wife Zakia, that is why Zakia couldn’t forgive her husband because she is the sort of a person who finds it hard to let go. Also, as much as we have been introduced to Zakia’s character, she can easily malign her heart but she can not forget things easily, that is why she still is not on talking terms with Gul Zeb & doesn’t fancy the idea of curbing the differences in order to reconcile with her sister or her husband. I am sure if Zakia will make an effort, Gul Zeb will walk an extra mile for her but Zakia is most certainly not in a mood to do that & now with what Ghaziyan is upto, Zakia has all the more reasons to blame Gul Zeb for her misery!

So, Ghaziyan has proposed marriage to Zubariya. As much as I like watching Ghaziyan & Zubaria together & as much as I like seeing them as a couple, I find Ghaziyan a little too impulsive & immature because in the first episode & also in the precap of the next episode, things were made clear that he was actually & officially engaged to Nimra, so now that he has spotted Zubaria, he has forgotten all about the promises he made to Nimra & may be he has also forgotten about his love for her & that slightly puts him in a bad light because if he had been a man of his word, he would’ve never done that. Also, I am sure as much as Zubaria doesn’t appreciate the attention she gets from Ghaziyan, she won’t be thrilled with the idea of being the reason behind Nimra & Ghaziyan’s break up. But then again, a love story is never complete with some twists & turns, so this is what is going to happen but even though I have said it before, I will say that again, I’d hate to see the sweetest girl like Nimra go through a heart break because of Ghaziyan’s immaturity & sudden realization about his love for Zubaria.

Overall, this episode was a treat to watch too. I love love love the locations they have chosen, it just lightens up the mood. I also enjoy the conversations Ghaziyan has with Zubaria, where he is always teasing her & she has the best comebacks to silence him up. The precap of the next episode suggested a lot of drama, I am sure Zakia won’t be happy with the news of Ghaziyan not wanting to get married to Nimra. Poor Nimra will suffer & Zakia will easily put a blame on Gul Zeb for transpiring everything because Zakia is someone who doesn’t think rationally & loves putting a blame on others that too with so much of conviction. I will thank the director for keeping things to the point & visually appeasing. Definitely looking forward to what team Moray Saiyaan has in store for us. Please share your thoughts about this very sweet episode of Moray Saiyaan.

Adnan Sarwar Voices His Opinion On Art Being Affected By The Indo-Pak Conflict

0

from-real-life-to-reel-life-adnan-sarwar-and-hussain-shah

After making his debut as a director, writer, and actor in film Shah. Adnan Sarwar gave us an entirely new perception of Pakistani Cinema by making the first ever biopic, on the unsung hero of Pakistan, Syed Hussain Shah.

14705014_988579944598336_4079825937397448704_n1

Sarwar, who disappeared for a while after his debut film, recently was seen driving flashy BMWs all the way from Lahore to Khanjarab while shooting for #100hoursofjoy campaign.

In his latest conversation with Images, he talked about his future plans, where he wants to see Pakistani film industry, the kind of roles he wants to play and also about the Indo-Pak conflict.

He told images about how he prepared himself physically for Shah. He had to go through rigors of training, dozens of fights and also reducing 12 kgs of weight and then psychologically to get broken in the process. It took him time to recover from all what he had to go through for the sake of the film. After Shah he’s been doing adverts, planning for his future projects by discussing ideas with some producers, and writing new material.

tumblr_nt8vkzqlhx1qmzrguo1_500

He voiced his opinion on the kind of characters he wants to be written for actors, are not being written which is the reason why he has refused a couple of offers made to him. He told that the thought of what people would like to see doesn’t dictate his artistic direction, He knows what he likes will eventually be liked by the general audience because he’s amongst them.

pakistani-film-shah

He shared his amazing experience on the shoot for the #100hoursofjoy campaign which was planned to celebrate 100 years of Dewan group and BMW. He said that the idea of the campaign was to show people how beautiful and safe it is in Pakistan and to get some tourist in the country.

14659441_107517843054473_1363402394196508672_n1

At last, he was asked for his say on art being affected by the Indo-Pak conflict to which he said:

“First of all, art and artistic exchange should be above politics and war — that is my core belief, and it pains me to see what is going on, on both sides of the border. Artists should be a voice for peace and a bridge between our two countries.

Secondly, if this ban continues, we should all be ready to say goodbye to our nascent film industry. The cinemas will not be able to absorb current level of losses for very long and Pakistan is years, if not decades, away from producing quality films in enough numbers to sustain the local cinema houses.

These are indeed troubling times for those who make a living from the Pakistani film industry and want to see it flourish”.

Kuch Na Kaho Episode 7 Review – Valima or Divorce?

This episode like the previous ones was decent paced, moving the story along in a convincing manner. Aina seems to have grown a thick skin where all she cares about is herself and Imran. She plays on the feelings and trust of the family that loves her and her expressions and then chat with Faraz after he manages to convince Mohsin and Aina’s mother to continue with her studies made me wonder at how selfish this woman is. At the risk of repeating myself, for the drama’s sake and even reality to an extent I can easily stomach liking someone and then marrying them when your family disapproves which is probably where Imran is coming from. I will come to Imran later. But Aina’s family set aside their reservations for her sake and it was Imran’s side that let her down so even if Aina were to marry Imran against her family’s wishes and kept it a secret, she should not be playing on everyone’s feelings. She convinces her fiancé to buy her a few more months before the wedding because she wants to study. Having Faraz and Sajal speak for her and mostly not care how she will let down her mother does not make Aina very likable. She had a couple of moments where she whined to Imran that she can not keep lying but even then it was because she wanted to get over with the secrecy, it was all me-me-me.

Faraz’s two facedness is still understandable for his family played with his emotions and led him to believe one thing while they went and did another and then emotionally blackmailed him. Yes, he should be man enough to stand up and face the music but for whatever reason he wants to keep things shushed for a while. His mother’s divorce factor surely can not be the reason for once his family finds out then what will happen? Maybe that is his plan to keep this marriage hidden for a longer period than Aina would have wished.

pic1

Anyway, does not matter what Aina and Imran want or plan for Ainnie has bigger plans for them. Imran’s disappearance daily from work makes her suspicious and I remember describing her as stalkerish but man, this woman turns out to be a total stalker. She honestly puts all the desperate, I-must-have-this-man-even-though-he-clearly-does-not-want-me female characters in our dramas to shame for they may scheme and scream (ah, that rhymes) but I can not say Ainnie does not make things exciting. She not only follows Imran but then confronts him and Aina and while the whole ‘what is your rishta’ scene grated on my nerves for it played out far too long and I felt like shouting someone say something already, she provoked Aina enough to blurt out that she and Imran are married. Although Hira Adnan’s dialogue delivery is a bit off, her desperation is convincing and there was quite a bit of her flouncing around in those strange clothes – maybe I am not with the latest fashions but to me she looked like an angry peacock!

peacock-pic

Imran’s father still seems to believe or maybe that is another one of his games, that now Imran has had his fun he must divorce Aina. Will Imran be able to take a stand for himself and Aina or will he succumb to pressure? More interestingly for me, will Imran’s father or maybe Ainnie pay Aina’s family a visit and update them with these developments?

There was much less of Sajal-Faraz and Mohsin-Nadia today but for me that worked for it moved the main story along where now Imran and Aina’s secret has come out into the open. There is nothing reassuring about Imran’s character except his passionate vows but he does not come across as someone who can deliver and I wonder if that is really the character that is Imran or maybe the actor gives that impression. We shall soon find out I suppose. While the story, well the jist of it does not seem unique it does not seem very predictable either for I did not expect Ainnie to find out and confront Imran so soon. The fact that this drama airs twice a week also makes it interesting except for some reason, a new episode did not air today. What did you all think of this episode? Would love to hear your thoughts.

latest-pictures-of-urwa-hocane-and-farhan-saeed-from-netherlands-tour-3

As we all know Urwa and Farhan have been associated for quite a long while now and their relation has been noticed by all.

It was just yesterday, when Farhan made their engagement official by posting a picture on his Instagram account, captured in the city of love Paris, captioning it “She said YES.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BNE-gvNBRyf/?taken-by=farhan_saeed&hl=en

Mawra Hocane overjoyed with Farhan’s post, made one of the earliest comments on the picture. By looking at the comment it kind of seems like it was a surprise to her as well.

2016-11-22-21-52-08

She literally commented Mashallah on every post made by known (as in Images, HelloPakistan, etc) Instagram accounts announcing her sister’s engagement. Mashallah, these sisters never fail to give us Sibling Goals.

Earlier today, a video posted by Hello Pakistan explains the entire Farhan proposing to Urwa scenario in the city of Love, Paris in the best possible way.

Its also been reported that they’re planning on getting married in Lahore this December. We just wish the beautiful couple all the very best and that they live happily ever after. #CoupleGoals

Sanam Episode 11 Review – Harib Chowk!

OMG, this episode was so funny that I can’t even tell. Just like Harib implied in the precap that Aan couldn’t understand the silence between them, so I am implying the same thing that if you can’t understand the undertone of sarcasm in my review, then you’re not my friend, lol! Anyways, this episode was boring to say the least because it offered absolutely nothing!

I am not sure what made the writer & the director think that by adding Shabnam’s in laws in the story will provide comic relief in a drama? Sorry (not sorry) but every single time they show up with that hideous tun tun tun music in the background, I am reminded of those 5PM comedy dramas that usually no one watches because they have everything to offer except humor & comedy. Also, I must say, the level of stereotyping in this drama is ridiculous because the way the team of Sanam has implied that those who belong to interior Karachi & speak in a certain way are worthy to be laughed at is demeaning & insulting on so many levels. I think it’s about time that we should avoid this kind of so-called ‘humor’ in our dramas where Punjabis are made fun of their Punjabi language & now Karachites are being made fun of because of the way they speak in a certain manner! Not cool Team Sanam! Also, every single time they show up, they actually change the scenario so much that I feel I am watching some weird drama like Mohabbat Bhar Mai Jaye or Jhanjaal Pura, like I know every drama needs a set of supporting characters but these characters are not even fillers, they are just misfits who do not belong to this story at all!

Anyways, Harib took Aan on a ride, only to sit quietly with her, that scene was done nicely for a change because it showed how he wanted a friend to share his silence with him & Harib knew that Aan was the only one who could do that. This was probably the first & the last scene of the episode that made sense, had some touch of emotion to it & was done nicely, but as the rest of the episode progressed, it reminded me that I was watching Sanam, a drama which is running for the sake of defying basic logic & common sense!

A major part of the episode was dedicated to Shabnam’s in laws & I thank the director for it because I didn’t have to pay attention to what was happening in a drama, not that I need to pay attention to it anyways but still. Shama came to fix Taimur & Aan’s marriage only to find out that Shabnam won’t allow that to happen.

The moment Sara came in with her aunt & spooky zombie-esque cousin, I knew they were impostors & were only there because Sara must’ve told them how Aan & Shabnam were the easy targets as they are a little too simple minded. I must say, I had a good laugh at the way Sara & her aunt forced Shabnam to say yes, it looked like they were selling 3 piece Lawn ka Suit to Shabnam & were persuading her to finalize her purchase, like seriously, bas drama bananay ka mauqa mila hai to kuch bhi dikha do, kuch bhiiiii, beshak uski koi tuk ho ya nahi!

I must say I find Shehroz’s random humanity pangs a bit too funny. After throwing resignation letter at Harib’s face & following Aila like a puppy, Shehroz was now trying to make Aila realize what she did with Harib at his office was wrong? Ye acha hai, pehle teeli laga do phir agg bhujanay ke liye paani bhi khud hi daal do. I had a good laugh once again when Aila announced that she will be moving to Harib Chowk. Uf, so dramatic na!?!?!

So, Harib has finally fallen in love with Aan & looks like in the next episode he will declare his love for her. Lekin bhai zahir hai, jab tak 10 talaqain, 20 halalas aur 50 mangniyan nahi tootaingee, Aan aur Harib ka milan to hoga nahi, so bas dekhte jao. The precap promised some more senseless drama where now Aila will blackmail Harib by showing him some pictures of him & Aan together, to is mai aisa kya hai? I must say I had a good laugh seeing the level of AAG Harib was ready to jump in, hahahah, itni aag mai se to macchar bhi bach ke nikal jaye but oh well, for a second I forgot that I was watching Sanam, kyunki, naam hi kaafi hai!

Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sanam & yes, once again, I thank the casting director for bringing in Hina Bayat in the show, she is literally the backbone of this drama & she is the only one I enjoy watching in Sanam!

Cheers,

During her recent interview with Indian Express, she revealed that working in Pakistani dramas has helped her grow as a human being.

She shared “I grew up in a very conservative Hindu neighborhood. I owe my depth of understanding and empathy across religious lines to the love and affection I have received from the people I worked with, and from fans in Pakistan. This experience has expanded my world view and made me a better human being.”

While praising Pakistani Directors and Producers she said “I have the greatest regard for Siddiqui and Momina Duraid, the creative mind there. They’ve held on to great, poetic story-telling, unlike Indian TV serials. I don’t know if I could have found a similar space for myself in Indian serials.”

The star shared that she was glad to have her Neeyat co-star Mahira Khan in India. “When I found out Mahira is working in Bollywood, I was delighted. And I was so sad when Pakistani artistes were banned,” she said.

#BEATME The Video Featuring The Strong Women Of The Nation

0

“Beat me” the video by United Nations for women in Pakistan, in which women are speaking up against gender based violence, and inviting men to beat them, but only at things they are best at, is trending all over Pakistan.

We can see Momina Mustehsan, Meesha Shafi, Sana Bucha, Sarwart Gillani and Samina Baig with many other prominent women in Pakistan challenging men to beat them with their voice, their words, on top of the mountains, on the grounds, in the fields.

The video sets to break patriarchal ideologies of Pakistani society and shatters the perception that women are feeble and weak.

Khuda Aur Mohabbat Episode 04 Review – & Hammad Is In Love!

Ohkay so, this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat portrayed the feelings of all the characters beautifully. What I am loving the most about this drama is the way how they have elaborated all sorts of emotions through different situations & it is because of those emotions that we are able to understand the characters better with each passing episode. The thing I like the most about Khuda Aur Mohabbat is that it is a feel good drama & by the end of every single episode, you are left with a positive feeling about the entire journey, which is a bonus!

So, this episode showcased everything that Hammad felt about Imaan. To put it in simple words, Hammad only saw Imaan’s shadow & that was enough for him to forgive the rest of the world & get engulfed in her thoughts. Hammad experienced something that he had never experienced before & that is the reason he felt that his heart was telling him something that he shouldn’t ignore. Even though Hammad didn’t even get a chance to see Imaan, but just the glimpse of her forced Hammad to do some thinking & it was only because of her, that Hammad started growing out of all the things that connected him to the rest of the world. It was good that Hammad had his best friend Kamran to confide in but even Kamran couldn’t relate to what Hammad said because even for Kamran, it was hard to digest the fact that a casanova like Hammad would fall for a girl whom he hadn’t actually seen!

Hammad decided to accompany Sunny to Molvi Aleemuddin’s place because for him, the thought that Imaan was near him was enough to feel some sort of connection with her but Hammad never imagined that he would not only get to visit Imaan’s place but will get to see her for the first time too. It was actually quite sweet how Hammad cherished every single moment he spent in Imaan’s house because he could feel Imaan’s presence everywhere. I think it was something absolutely beautiful & then came the best moment of the episode when Hammad got to see Imaan for the first time, he now knew who was it that made him forget everything around him & how beautiful she is.

Shakir accepted the proposal for Nighat & decided to hold a Nikkah ceremony. The entire scene where Shakir tried to invite Amjad Raza to Nighat’s Nikkah was done so well & it made me feel for him so much. Shakir wanted Amjad to share the most memorable moment of Shakir’s life with him but for Amjad, Shakir was just an employee & helping him with a few bucks was all he could do. On the other hand, Hammad accepted his invitation because he valued his relationship with Nighat & more importantly Shakir too. This is what sets Hammad apart from the rest of his family that he not only treats everyone with respect but also with equality too.

Once again, at Nighat’s place, Hammad came across Imaan & this was the first time he faced her. As much as Hammad was confused about his feelings, he was getting more & more chances to fall in love with her. It wasn’t her beauty that Hammad fell for because the way he explained his feelings about Imaan in front of Kamran was enough to tell how pure his intentions were & how high regard he had for Imaan.

Overall, this episode was a great watch. Imran Abbas surely is carrying the drama on his shoulders. Sadia Khan has improved a lot & I wish to see Imaan’s character getting a little more coverage. The rest of the cast has done a wonderful job, I especially enjoy watching the scenes between Shakir & Hammad, there is so much of respect with which they both treat each other & I find it absolutely heart-warming. The direction of the drama is surely great & so is the pace. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat.

Cheers,

Imran Khan Jokes About His Third Marriage

0

Recently Imran Khan attended a family friend’s daughter’s wedding where he was asked to make a speach. While congratulating the bride and groom, he said he can’t really give them any marriage advice as he himself hasn’t been successful at any of his 2 marriages. He further added that he might be lucky with marriage for the third time and then laughed along with the crowd.

Well, is Khan Sahab trying to give us hints about his third marriage. If he is, then we wish him all the very best and we just hope that he soon puts a full stop not only to his marriage list but also to the “Qaum Ki Bhabi” list.

Moreover, the wedding was attended by Indian Actor Anil Kapoor and Pakistan’s No. 1 Boxer, Amir Khan’s wife Faryal Makhdoom.

Bin Roye Episode 8 Review – Utterly Disappointing

The story of Bin Roye is all over the place; this was another episode which had quite a few developments to its credit yet this entire episode did not have a single emotional moment or meaningful conversation in it. The only pleasant surprise in tonight’s episode was that Adnan Malik has a bigger role to play in the story but then he is just another bland character in a drama which is over-crowded with characters I fail to relate to or feel for. There are characters which grow on your with every passing episode and then there are characters you get even more disconnected from as you watch a new episode every week, unfortunately the characters in Bin Roye fall in that category. There was a time when I had a reason to look forward to the next episode, dying to find out how Saba’s story in particular will unfold but now all these characters are losing their charm because there has been absolutely no character development, the characters that are already there are too plain, the new characters which have been introduced aren’t appealing either and this story has absolutely no twists which will keep you at the edge of your seat.

Once again I could not help but wonder if Saba was adopted since everyone is so concerned for Saman and even the dadi who knows everything and was supposedly so close to Saba pushed her to go live with Irtiza and Saman. Didn’t Saba tell her that she did not want to be around them? Didn’t she make it very clear that she wanted Saman dead? And most importantly doesn’t dadi know she is madly and deeply in love with Irtiza? I don’t understand the relationships between these characters at all. In one episode they are so close to one another and in the next episode it is almost as if they don’t know each other! Also, once again the developments in the story were so rushed, one minute Saman was talking to Saba and in the other scene her father had a ticket in his hand! Last time I checked you needed a visa to go to the US. I let this blooper pass hoping that the directors were rushing us because they had something grand in store for us but once again the Bin Roye team failed to give anything substantial to its viewers. Saba went to the US, ignored Irtiza as usual, Irtiza never bothered having a heart-to-heart talk with someone he had spent every free minute of his life with, to ask what had happened to her and yes she cooked a lot!!! Saba is very sughar all of a sudden and her brownies and coffee are the talk of the town! The mention of Saba’s cooking was repetitive.

fotorcreated

Amir’s conversation with his sister was another one of those plain conversations in this episode which were dragged and did not have much of a substance. Even though Mahira Khan’s performance in Bin Roye has been remarkable throughout but no matter how well she performs one actor whose character doesn’t have much to offer either cannot save a sinking ship! Yes! That is what Bin Roye is in my opinion. The expectations from this drama were huge but I find myself continuously comparing it to Dillagi, a drama which you could just watch because of its powerful dialogues and those deep and meaningful conversations. Pakistani viewers have tons of options nowadays and we have seen some great love stories on television in the recent past therefore I doubt that the viewers will be swayed away by star power and stunning locations alone.

Hamayun Saeed is a total miscast in this role and his talent is being wasted playing a character which has absolutely no depth. Same is true for Mahira Khan.  Someone mentioned that I do not discuss Safeer and Sonia in my reviews, well I don’t even want to talk about them, they are the most useless supporting characters who I want to forget all about as soon as the episode ends!

I am terribly disappointed with this recent episode because once again just like many other twists in the story, these new developments too fell completely flat. There is so much I wanted to see in this episode, so much that could have been shown but it wasn’t. There should have been at least one meaningful and powerful conversation between Irtiza and Saba. Also, the viewers were never shown how Saba feels right now about this whole situation. Yes, she is distant but showing that is just not enough! The writer and the director should have explored this character more so that the viewers could have a reason to stay interested in Saba’s story. Saman’s character is already quite robotic therefore I had absolutely no expectations from her whatsoever. What this drama lacks are emotions, you hear the characters say things about each other but do you feel them?? Well, I most certainly don’t! Also, with the exception of Mahira Khan, everyone’s make-up was so cakey tonight including Adnan Malik who usually does not wear a lot of make-up.

Oonchi dukaan, pheka pakwan is how I would sum up Bin Roye! How many of you watched this episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Short Film Chashm-E-Num

0

In his latest conversation with images Ahsan Khan talks about his upcoming short film, expected to be released in the first week of December in commemoration of Disability Day,Chashm-e-Num. “There’s no trend for short films in Pakistan,”Ahsan said to images.”They rarely get a run in cinemas, even though this is common internationally. Major filmmakers around the world make short films. In Pakistan, even feature length films don’t get a decent run in cinemas . So,I thought I should make short films and introduce the trend.”

Chashm-e-num is about 2 visually impaired people falling in love, but a web of lies awaits them.

nj

Other than Ahsan, the film stars Jasmin Khan and Amar Khan who is a filmmaking graduate from Beacon House Nationa University and also the writer of the film. The film features a song sung by Amanat Ali.

Ahsan Khan suggested that “We should make a lot of short films and hold festivals in Pakistani cinema and sell tickets, run eight to ten short films per day.” He also talked bout the risk he has taken by putting his money on this film, but he thinks its worth taking.

Dukh Sukh Episode 4 & 5 Review – More Dukh, less Sukh!

This installment was split into 2 episodes titled “Musafir”. Maya (Naveen Waqar) lives with her Mamoo (Babar Niazi), Maami (Shaheen Khan) and their two kids- Ali and Maryam. She is struggling emotionally and perpetually miserable. The story begins with Maya contemplating suicide but failing and her family lecturing her on how precious life is. More than anything, I was hugely distracted by Naveen’s clown-like big shoes and I may have missed some integral part of the story as I couldn’t understand why she was so miserable. After more failed attempts and her family’s concerns, out of nowhere appears a stranger, Sikander (Imran Abbas) who speaks in rhymes. The kids develop an instant liking to their Jadugar uncle and Maya is the only one who eyes him with curiosity. But almost overnight, the family warms up to him so effortlessly that they’re okay with two young children spending time with a complete stranger. My first reaction to seeing the stranger was that he may be some sort of a jinn. I was almost convinced when they show him quoting lines from a poem Maya penned down. The writer chose to leave plenty to the viewers imagination as there were far too many gaps in the story. I kept guessing whether Maya was traumatized as a child when her parents passed away or whether Maya was driving the car and responsible for their death or she was plain cuckoo.

Maya, who had lost the will to live for whatever reason, started spending time with Sikander who shared that he too was an orphan but lived life loving those around him and caring for others. He would salvage plants from the roadsides and bring them into the forest to replant them. He would visit the sick and dying and motivate them to consider each moment as a blessing. Slowly but surely, Maya realized she had so much to be grateful for but just when she started turning over a new life, time ran out for Sikander.

To be honest, there seems to be much more Dukh than there is Sukh in every episode. Each story is gravitating towards hopelessness and misery in some form or another. The scripts are being lost in translation with the director failing to capture the essence and often times a story may be intriguing but loses its impact when being converted into a screenplay. It seems like the producers are working on a shoestring budget and even though the shooting takes place in scenic locations, the lack of picture quality makes it unimpressive. Add to that the scarce resources- the wardrobe is heavily restricted to a handful of clothing. This story was penned by Ali Moin and I’m wondering if the weak direction of Sakina Samo coupled with budget constraints makes the end result a disappointment.

What are your thoughts about Dukh Sukh? Is it working for you?

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai Episode 5 Review – Slow But Emotional

This episode had some powerful performances to its credit but tonight’s episode of Khuda Mera Bhi Hai was more of a filler episode which was high on emotions but did not have much to offer in terms of story development. I had absolutely no trouble relating to what Mahi was going through, Aisha Khan’s brilliant performance and effortless portrayal was right on point but there were many times when I was wondering what is taking Mahi so long to figure out that she has the option of raising this child on her own. It is not an easy decision to make for any mother but then Mahi was never shown as a conventional woman. The scenes covering Mahi’s state of mind were poignant without a doubt and she will eventually come to a decision which will be her very own but in my opinion it would have been so much better if she made that decision in this episode. Also, watching every single person including Mahi’s mother, Zain’s father and even Sanam accept this decision like there was no other choice was somewhat awkward too.

I have read many interviews of people born with such birth defects and most of them never really fit in a family and end up with people who are like them but even then it is difficult to digest the fact that Mahi did not protest enough considering that she never thought of consequences when she was making difficult decisions for others. The fact that Mahi decided to take responsibility for a girl who was not even related to her went to show that she was not afraid of taking responsibilities and was quite independent. This side of Mahi’s character which we saw in the previous episode and this one is quite different from the Mahi we were all introduced to. She will eventually bounce back but this should be done soon otherwise the team of Khuda Mera Bhi Hai will only be relying on the emotional aspect of the situation and not focusing on a more plausible narrative.

fotorcreated

Arshi got way more screen time than she should have in this episode. Her character is not likeable and most of her scenes conveyed the same message therefore they were repetitive. It was shocking watching Mahi’s mother leave the first time without meeting her daughter and I expected an emotional outburst when she came to meet Mahi but the scene was much more subtle, which isn’t always a great idea. Watching this entire family giving up on this newborn baby because he was not like them was truly upsetting and heart-wrenching.

I am all for directors who pay attention to details which make a drama esthetically pleasing but sometimes “compromising” on such aspects can help a situation. While Aisha Khan’s acting was truly impressive in tonight’s episode, her perfectly styled hair and heavy make-up stood out like a sore thumb. Syed Jibran’s matching shoes when he was sitting next to the pool and crying was not a coincidence either. I did not understand the conversation between Zain, his father and Zahir next to the swimming pool. How did they know what they said to Mahi?? All the actors in the play including Mehmood Aslam were wearing a lot of make-up in tonight’s episode. There was generally too much focus on making the actors look good although their lives are completely chaotic at the moment. Adnan Shah Tipu is one of the most versatile and talented actors in our industry and once again in this drama he has proven he can perform any role at all effortlessly.

Although this episode wasn’t my favorite episode of Khuda Mera Bhi Hai but I must admit that it was emotionally engaging, especially the scenes which covered Mahi’s state of mind were heartrending despite of the heavy make-up. The preview of the next episode suggested that things will take a turn for the better in the next episode. I am waiting for Mahi to take a decision so that we can watch fighting for her baby.

Is Saara Hirji Miss Veet Pakistan 2016?

We all know that these REALITY shows have been recorded weeks and months before they’re aired on TV. But after all these appearances made by Saara, it has become quite obvious, that who wins the title of Miss Veet Pakistan 2016, Saara Hirji for sure. Which not only kills all the suspense but also leaves the show only to be watched for catfights between the contestants, celebrity guest appearances, challenges or tasks by the judges and then the so-called revelation or  announcement of the winner on the Grand finale.

But at the end, we think that even if Saara is the winner of the title, she actually fits for it perfectly.

Those Pakistani Celebrities who couldn’t Make it BIG in bollywood

There are many Pakistani actors who have worked in Bollywood in the past and even right now there are many of them who are still looking forward to work in Indian films. Not all of the actors who have worked in Bollywood have made their mark there. These actors are talented nevertheless and have a massive fan following in Pakistan but somehow their careers in India didn’t take off because of various reasons.

This video focuses on those actors who did not make it big in Bollywood and also explains the reasons why they were not as big a success as some of the other actors.

Silah Episode 04 Review – The End!

Ohkay so, I think I have given this drama more time than it deserved. Even though the pre-cap of the next episode did suggest that things might change & Maryam & Taimur might enter a new phase in their lives but I still believe it is not going to be entertaining enough to watch those characters whom I haven’t warmed up to. The director did show us everything we wanted to know in the first 4 episodes but to be honest, none of it was enticing enough for me to keep going with this play so I think I’ll stop here!!!

This episode offered absolutely nothing & the pace was so slow that even staring at my mobile phone wasn’t making the time roll faster than usual. Silah is the sort of a drama that you can play in the background while doing your chores because it doesn’t require your utmost attention & the moment the scenes begin, you know what they are going to show beforehand because everything is so typical & predictable that you’ll have an idea without even paying attention!

Taimur’s parents decided not to budge & they proved to be more typical than normal. Nargis planned Taimur’s engagement with her niece without even asking Taimur about it because according to her, she was doing everything for Taimur’s better future. Nargis & Ehsan weren’t thrilled with the idea of Taimur dating a girl from a mediocre background & they didn’t hold back in showcasing their disapproval about his affair with her. I found it amusing that despite hearing from Taimur that he wasn’t ready to get engaged to his cousin, his parents not only invited Mishal’s family over for a dinner but chose to hold an engagement ceremony too without Taimur’s knowledge!

Like I said in the previous review, it seemed that Maryam’s parents didn’t want her to get married because they were depending on her keeping future in their minds but that thing was discussed by Maryam’s sisters in this episode where they spoke about how Maryam brings a few bucks by giving tuition because of which Aleem was also concerned that if he will marry Maryam off, how will he keep their family afloat!?!?! See, I told you already that all the situations & scenarios are so typical that you don’t even need to watch the future episodes to predict what is going to happen next!

Anyways, Taimur gets to know that his parents got him engaged to his cousin & then he asks Maryam if she will be able to take a stand for him? Oh bhai pehle khud to stand le lo, baad mai Maryam se poochna. Well, Aleem spots Maryam & Taimur together & tries to knock some sense into her that Taimur won’t get married to her because if he wanted he would’ve sent his parents to her home. Also, apart from all this, may I ask, which century does Razia belong to? She implied that sending daughters to university meant giving them a licence to flirt with boys? Seriously!?!?!?! Anyways, Maryam tries to make her parents understand that Taimur is sincere but looks like her delusion will be short-lived & she will get to know that Taimur can’t take a stand for her & they will become this star-crossed couple, jinko dekhne se behtar hai app balcony main kharay ho ke asmaan mai aslee sitare hi dekh lo because that activity will be more enjoyable than watching this drama actually!

Anyways, I am done with Silah or shall I say Dr. Maryam. I remember long time back I saw a list of comparisons between our actors & actors from the rest of the world who had some resemblance in their looks, so in that list someone had suggested that Ainy Jaffrey looked like Kristen Stewart, I will say that she does, but not only in terms of facial features but also in terms of acting too, because she is just as expressionless as Kristen Stewart. Farhan Saeed’s acting & presence in the drama didn’t give me anything to talk about so I will pass. Anyways, for those who’re watching this drama, I wish them good luck & happy viewing because it most certainly wasn’t a happy reviewing experience for me. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Silah/Dr. Maryam!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Choti Si Zindagi – An Overview

0

Produced by Momina Duraid, directed by Shaquille Khan and written by Sarwat Nazir, Choti Si Zindagi airs on HUM TV on Tuesdays at 8pm PST. The promos of this drama got my interest for sure and I do not mean that in a positive way. The cast comprises Shahzad Sheikh, Iqra Aziz and Nimra Khan in the lead roles and since none of them have left a lasting (good) impression on me before, I was not too keen to watch this drama. Until I saw that the writer is Sarwat Nazir. There is something about her dramas and the relationship between the couples that she portrays that interests me so I decided to give this one a go and although the first few episodes, in my opinion did not have me hooked, something about this play made me keep watching and 6 episodes down – despite some glitches, I am glad I did.

Choti Si Zindagi is the tale of two cities (I could not resist and had to be a bit Charles Dickens-ish). A period drama, if you will, set in the 1970s (an assumption for the drama only tells us at the beginning that the story is of ‘some’ years ago), the drama introduces the families of two brothers, one residing in Sahiwal while the other in Multan. Furqan (Tariq Jameel) is the older brother and has four daughters and a son Urwah (Shahzad Sheikh). While his sisters’ names Muzammil and Khurshid seemed a bit more believable as women often had male names back then, the name Urwah for the male lead caught me by surprise. Not only me it appears for he is made fun of later too at university for having a girlish name. We see that Urwah is traveling to the city to begin his education at the university there. While Urwah is portrayed as the obedient, innocent and slightly awkward young man we see the beginnings of revolt when he is not too happy about his father accompanying him all the way to the university. Having been raised in a small town, his personality has however been primarily shaped by his upbringing and his surroundings.

Furqan’s younger brother Irfan (Rashid Farooqi) lives in Multan with his wife (Farah Shah) and I-am-not-sure-how-many- daughters but the oldest is Ameena (Iqra Aziz). Irfan is unwell and is suddenly worried about his daughters and their marriages and is overjoyed when his brother asks for Ameena’s hand for Urwah. Ameena’s character is meant to be that of an immature and carefree young woman but honestly the way it is portrayed has often left me confused. School/college going – okay, immature and not wanting to do any housework –okay but the childish on the border of mentally unstable behaviour that Iqra Aziz has put into her character did not impress me at all. The loud guffaws, the whining, big eyed look – not on.

Anyway, Urwah’s room mate Sohail (Afraz Rasool) takes him under his wing, well not as sweetly as that sounds, but he introduces him to his friends. He misses no opportunity to poke fun at him when they are together though and although we get he is another carefree and polar opposite of Urwah kind of character, I found the escalating laughter every other second, a bit fake. Azra (Nimra Khan) as the rich yet refreshingly unspoilt and non bratty girl finds herself drawn to Urwah. I failed to see what might attract her to him except what she says herself that he is different and respects women something which she values greatly. Urwah is very awkward around her at first but seems to get comfortable as they meet more often.

When news of his engagement to Ameena is broken to him, Urwah balks and rushes home. He goes back with the assurance though that although engaged, his marriage is no time soon. That backfires too when his father’s jasoos, I mean friend in the city spots Urwah with Azra and reports back to him. Furqan feels it is time to get things moving and has Urwah rushing back home under the pretext that he is unwell. Emotional blackmail and the way things were back in that era prevent Urwah from sticking to his refusal and he is wed to Ameena.

Since I am not a very observant person, therefore if there were any slips in attention to detail then they went unnoticed by myself. I did however like the whole feel of the drama which made me feel I was taken back in time a bit. I enjoyed watching the wedding festivities too for they lacked the overly drawn out grandiose presentations and glamour so common in dramas generally, yet drew me in and that was refreshing in itself.

For me, Shahzad Sheikh is perfect as Urwah. His stiff and awkward demeanour, a young man trying to make sense of this new modern world and liking it yet held back by ties back home, indignant over Sohail’s outrage comments, flattered and awe struck by Azra’s attention, wanting to take a stand for himself but giving in to his parent’s wishes – I can not fault his performance. Iqra Aziz, on the other hand, while I appreciate for coming out of her clogs, I mean comfort zone and throwing herself into a different character, tries a bit too hard and has left me cringing at times. If only she could ditch the childish, lower lip jutting out dialogue delivery and the overly loud crying and comments which no matter how immature you may be do not seem fitting for a teenager – I could relate to Ameena more. Nimra Khan’s acting seems effortless although I still find it a bit difficult to see how Azra is attracted to Urwah to the point of wanting to marry him.

It seems Urwah is not ready to give up Azra yet or tell her of his marriage and since he will return to the city to complete his studies, I wonder how things will develop. How soon, if anytime soon at all, will Ameena ‘grow up’ and what will be the chain of events that will get her on that track? Will Urwah give up Azra? While Choti Si Zindagi does not rank up there amongst the dramas that have us hooked from scene to scene, or shock us with controversial, out of the box stories or emotional blockbusters that have us reaching for a tissue – there is something about the drama that lets you sit back and enjoy watching it unfold.

Oh – and this would not be complete without mentioning the OST and the background music that is often played during the episode and makes you want to, well – do this:
