‘Victoria and Abdul’ trailer is a delight for all!

Anyone who has even remotely read about British History must have some idea about the sudden scandal wrapped around one of the empire’s longest reining monarchs, Queen Victoria. The Queen had apparently formed a special bond with her 24-year-old attendant Abdul Karim. It is reported that he even taught the Queen Urdu and the Quran. So scandalous was this union that it is rumored King Edward, the song of Queen Victoria, had burned all letters and photographs of the two after the death of his mother. However Abdul’s diary was later found that contained memorabilia of the two.

The movie will be based upon Shrabani Basu’s book of the same name and will explore how this unlikely friendship came to be. If you thought that Victoria and Abdul would be just another white-washed, run-of-the-mill documentary then the trailer will certainly prove you wrong. Full of quick wit humor and excellent cinematography, the trailer promises that the movie may be one of the biggest successes of the year, pleasing to all.

‘Times TV To Shut Soon’, Sources!

The news is not very old where we saw this new channel emerging with lots of foreign shows all lined up to entertain the Pakistani audience but recently, it has been heard that the newly born channel is really not coming over the expectations Express Entertainment had from it and will soon be disappearing from screen.

Pakistani journalists have reported that the channel was going through serious financial constraints and since its launch, that is, June 1st, the channel failed badly to build a healthy viewership.  It is important to mention here that the channel promised to offer its potential viewers a balance between entertainment and news which was nearly true as well. The channel was doing well in the later part but still its entertainment was all limited to the Indian and Turkish dramas.

Times-TV

This sudden switching off the service is nothing new in the history of this group as it was only two years before that Express group shut down its English language channel for the same reason.

We hope that the group comes prepared next time to meet up the expectations of audience so that things may work out for the channel in near future.

‘Rangreza’ brings ‘item song’ feat. Gohar Rasheed and 200 transgenders

0

Item songs and dance numbers find deep roots in both Bollywood and Lollywood’s history but ever since the revival of Pakistani film industry not just the audience but also some celebrities, Hamza Ali Abbasi being most prominent in them, have been publicly vocal against the sexual objectification of women in these songs.

But the times have changed just like Ahmed Ali Butt’s performance in ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ song Gohar Rahseed will be performing a dance number ‘Kalu’ in ‘Rangreza’. The song is set to break many stereotypes not only will it be a male item number but also Gohar Rasheed will be seen dancing to the song with no less than 200 transgenders. Some glimpses of the song were also seen in the trailer.

In a recent interview Gohar Rasheed talked about his experience while shooting the song and the stigma seen in our society against transgenders. The Mann Mayal star said,

“The purpose behind Kalu is not to objectify anyone. The basic reason was to show and tell people that even these people – who unfortunately have to face certain stigmas in our society – are immensely talented, the song aims to show people how compassionate, caring, loving and most importantly, good human beings transgenders are.”

'Rangreza' brings 'item song' feat. Gohar Rasheed and 200 transgenders

Gohar Rasheed also stated that the team Rangreza planned on promoting the film with a small performance of Gohar with transgenders on Kalu in a mall, Gohar explained that the entire crew was psyched about the idea since it’s never been done before but the thought couldn’t be transformed into an action because the shopping mall authorities had a “No Transgenders” policy.

“I was thinking of doing a flash mob with transgenders on Kalu. We thought of doing it at a mall and we were very excited as nothing like this has ever happened before. It broke my heart when the mall authorities informed us that transgenders are not allowed inside.”

'Rangreza' brings 'item song' feat. Gohar Rasheed and 200 transgenders

He went on to add,

“I keep asking people to not judge them by their gender or their sexuality. I’ve worked with them and they are good human beings. It’s not their fault that they are transgenders. There’s nothing wrong with that anyway but I request people to at least treat them like normal human beings.”

'Rangreza' brings 'item song' feat. Gohar Rasheed and 200 transgenders

Gohar further stated that the song helped him change his own perception of transgenders and he is thankful for that, he concluded,

“I’m glad that Rangreza changed my perspective on transgenders. I hope it can help change other’s perspectives too.”

‘Raazi’ Will Not Be Releasing In Pakistan

Meghan Gulzar-helmed ‘Raazi’ will be releasing in India tomorrow but due to it’s controversial content no distributor has purchased this film in Pakistan.

A senior distribution company official told Express Tribune,

“It is disappointing to see that films on controversial subjects are being produced in India time and again,”

He continued,

“All our distributors are well aware about Alia’s role in Raazi and so, no one is willing to purchase the film. Patriotism is another reason for distributors not being pushed about buying the film. Indian producers should know that all our distributors have unanimously decided to boycott such controversial films.”

'Raazi' Will Not Be Releasing In Pakistan

The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel, Calling Sehmat, it features an Indian spy (Alia) who marries a Pakistani man (Vicky) during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

In an earlier interview Vicky Kaushal playing a Pakistani major’s role said,

“The film is not just about the Indo-Pak war, it is much deeper than that. It is about an individual relationship. It is also about an era when there was tension between the two countries and during that time a Kashmiri woman married a Pakistani major.”

'Raazi' Will Not Be Releasing In Pakistan

He went on to add,

“I wasn’t worried that I am playing a Pakistani, so it should be shown in a certain light. I think the story does the work. People will realise it is not an India-Pakistan war film.”

‘PadMan’ Gets Banned In Pakistan

Members of the Punjab Film Censor Board are at it again, this time they have denied watching the Bollywood film PadMan so as to issue a clearance certificate to it. A movie like ‘Padmaavat’ that distorted history to it’s core and represented Khilji less like a Muslim Ruler but more like a Viking got clearance in the name of “ART” while a movie based on the sanitary health of women is apparently too taboo to be issued clearance..

According to the members, film with “taboo” subjects such as menstruation will not be allowed screening in Pakistan. The Federal Censor Board also denied issuing an NOC to PadMan and announced a ban on the Akshay Kumar-starrer in all cinemas across the country.

However, another distribution company bought the distribution rights for PadMan on the condition that they will only process payment if it’s been approved by the censor board. After being denied screening, the posters were removed from all the cinemas.

‘National Ka Pakistan’ – A Treat To Watch!

0

While surfing through the channels, I came across these scenic views of Northern Areas of Pakistan, which actually made me stop & looking for more as I was for sure attracted to what I saw. After the commercial break, I got to know about the show ‘National Ka Pakistan’. As I kept watching, I saw & also learnt some amazing facts about Pakistan & definitely fell in love with the concept of the show & obviously My Pakistan.

I don’t know about others but I believe we for sure need some shows like these. I remember as a child watching PTV’s ‘Travel Guide of Pakistan’ where the hosts went to different places & made the viewers fall in love with our very own Pakistan & it’s beauty. I remember getting to know about innumerable places from the show & wanting to visit each one of them. Ever since a kid I fell in love with & dreamt of visiting the Shangrilla Resort in Skardu. Naga Parbat, Raka Poshi, Gilgit, Hunza; these were the names that I heard for the very first time & how did it happen? Obviously, the awareness came from the show.

Currently, after so many years, when I saw a similar venture based on the similar concept, I couldn’t help but appreciating it because for sure, where we are so busy in the foreign content (either discouraging it or following it) we definitely need to know something good about Pakistan. The place that I saw through their lens today was Neelam Valley – Kashmir. Also the host spoke about the lake which flows between Pakistani Kashmir & the Indian Kashmir. What a sight it was. Chef Mehboob Khan is the one hosting the show & during the course of his excursion, he not only explains the demographics of the place, he also talks about the dishes & the cuisines of those particular places. While telling us more about the area at hand, he also cooks some amazing dishes that are marked as a specialty of the town. Live cooking at serene sceneries – what an idea of a healthy entertainment.

While watching the show I was just wondering about the beauty of Pakistan & I actually enjoyed & awed at what Pakistan actually is. We get to know so much about the developed cities but to actually start from the scratch & to get to know about how life rules in the remote areas, it was really refreshing. I feel this is just another amazing way of promoting positivity of Pakistan. Pakistan is definitely not beneath or behind any other place in the world when it comes to beauty, diversity, culture, hospitality or even the cuisine.

I feel we lacked something of this sort on our screens. Something so organized where each & everything was being covered. From homes, to the architectures, to people, to the grass-root levels of how things worked there, everything was just awe-inspiring. Just how simply a plant was running that produced 40KGS of flour in an hour. How the whole mechanism worked? I mean, I never knew of that thing before. So, I can proudly say that I learnt something new about Neelam Valley & some really quick yet delish recipes which are famous in that area as well.

I definitely commend the whole team who came up with the idea, for we definitely needed it. We need to fall in love with Pakistan again. I feel this is the easiest way of making a strong appeal in the masses. The best way to promote Pakistan which is healthy for the tourism & also the best way to reach out to the youth, who might want to explore Pakistan a bit more than their niches. I think we’re done with the shows like ‘Reema ka Amreeka’, where a renowned celebrity can just show the starry lives of ‘progressive’ Pakistanis. I know she tried to break some norms that people had or still have about America, but then, does it really matter? No.

We just need to know more about Pakistan, more about the simplicity of the people, more about the down-to-earth & easy lifestyles of innocent Pakistanis. So, for the sole & for numerous reasons, for me ‘National ka Pakistan’ is a YES!

I do urge & request everyone to watch the show & if you have, please feel free to share what you felt while watching it. I definitely loved it & yes, I’m waiting for some more of the episodes.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

“I have always maintained that a movie or a play can be a greater vehicle of peace than all the lectures we give. Any message, if communicated through storytelling, touches a chord. We are also trying to do the same. This play will be an emotional transaction between industries on both sides.”

It is yet difficult to reveal more about the project as the play is still in conceptualization stages. A part of the story will be rehearsed in India and the other in Pakistan after which the play will be rehearsed together before actually presenting live in front of the audience.

Just after the renaissance of Pakistan’s film industry, it is easy to predict the future of Pakistan’s theatre industry with the examples like Sawa 14 August, Dhaani and now, Milne Do.

We wish the team all the very best for this project,

‘Mahiya’ featuring Mathira and Danish Taimoor is out and here’s what we think

0

Previously, we brought you the trailer review of the film, Tum Hee Ho and we revealed to you how distasteful it was. However, a new song of the movie is out and we still think the same.

The song shows a rather excited Mathira dancing in a pool and other areas trying to reach out to Danish Taimoor but he is shown to be a distant and distressed hero who doesn’t seem to be paying any heed to her.

Apart from the song not sounding good to the ears, it is not visually pleasing either.

Mathira’s dance moves will remind you of a poorly done item song while Danish’s choice of work will make you wonder why did he sign this film.

You can watch the song here:

Tum Hee Ho stars Danish Taimoor, Mathira, Sajid Hassan, Saim Ali, Ghana Ali Quratulain and Sangeeta and is also a Sangeeta Film Production.

The movie will be released on 14th April 2017.

‘Love Curry’ author wants Fawad Khan & Alia Bhatt to star in it’s adaptation

Bestselling author Pankaj Dubey wants to cast Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt, Sushant Singh Rajput and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in the film adaptation of his new book Love Curry.

'Love Curry' author wants Fawad Khan & Alia Bhatt to star in it's adaptation

Previously Dubey has produced indie films like Geelee and Naach Ganesh and a short film titled Maratha Mandir Cinema featuring actress Sarika and actor-lyricist Swanand Kirkire.

“I have already started scripting the film and thinking about the casting. As the story is mainly about three boys from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, I want to cast Sushant, Fawad for the two of them,” Dubey said.

“For the female lead, I think Alia can play the part. Let’s see how the casting goes,” he added.

'Love Curry' author wants Fawad Khan & Alia Bhatt to star in it's adaptation

Dubey launched the book on Friday night. The story of Love Curry revolves around three guys from three different continents who live in the UK. It shows how they go through a journey of their life, love and cultural identity.

Though the book is a light read and when asked what made him bring the element of identity struggle of South Asians within a western country, Dubey said: “I lived in London for quite some time for my study and work. I have seen how people are narrating their story of identity struggle.”

He added, “Though the time has changed drastically and thanks to the internet, people know that India is not a country of snake charmers anymore, there are snob people with disinterest and misconception regarding our culture.”

“But at the same time, I do not want to treat the issue with so much seriousness, rather wanted to focus on how these three guys, who are otherwise fighting against each other as Indian and Pakistani unite as one in a western country,” Dubey concluded.

Dubey’s Love Curry surely sounds like a story worth experimenting with but given the political stress between the two nations the question remains if he’ll be able to cast a Pakistani actor. Do let us know what you think of it.

It is safe to say that Hadiqa has done justice to the Saraiki folk song and the 9 minutes sound like a folk treat.

There are spiritual feelings attached to the song which Hadiqa showcases pretty well with her voice and vocals.

This song is in the Indo-Aryan language of Saraiki and we love how the instruments have been played.

The Moor director’s latest venture Jugnu is directed by Ali Abbas Naqvi. The team just dropped a minute-and-a-half long teaser and it looks promising.

Jugnu seems to be revolve around the story of a young boy named Bhura and his love for goats. But that’s not it. Billed as ‘a fascinating tale of love, loss and selflessness’, the film also showcases the life of a couple and Bhura’s strained relationship with his mother.

So the sequel to the highest grossing Pakistani movie to date is ready to make headlines again, previously ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2’ dropped Hamza Ali Abbasi and included Fahad Mustafa later the cast was joined by Mawra Hocane, Kubra Khan and now the film casting team has signed supermodel turned actor Omer Shahzad as well.

'JPNA 2' Signs Supermodel Omer Shahzad

Omer Shahzad made his acting debut with Jawad Bashir’s ‘Teri Meri Love Story’ though the part wasn’t very memorable but Omer is hopeful ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2’ will be a great learning experience.

'JPNA 2' Signs Supermodel Omer Shahzad

In a recent interview the actor had the following to say about JPNA 2,

“When Nadeem came to me with this part, he told me a little about it – but what really made me say yes was when he told me that I was perfect for this particular character,”

When talking about playing a lead role Omer said that obviously he wants a movie of his own but before that he wants to polish his skills more,

“The best part is that I get to learn so much. Of course, I do want to (work on a solo lead-film), but all four protagonists in this film are senior actors, so it’s going to be a very different experience altogether. The cast literally brings together my favourite actors together and that would definitely help me grow as an actor.”

When asked what we should be expecting from the sequel Omer said,

‘Josh’ –Some Elements Missing! Movie review

0

The most anticipated Pakistani movie Josh which was released this Eid, is still now in cinemas and as shared before, it was only today that I, along with my family watch the movie and it is really a critical point to define it as either a success or a failure. Receiving a tough competition from the Bollywood release ‘Chennai  Express’ within the country,  most of the audience who is making its way towards Josh to support the local content has gotten all its answers that why is Josh still somewhere far behind the ratings of Chennai Express.

Untitled

The promos of the movie spread a different idea where the audience hoped to see something related to the concept of freedom in general. However the movie has its own meaning of freedom in the movie. Let us first discuss its plot in detail.

1097983_613693895330264_1157869757_n

The story as shared in my previous predicted reviews, is about a girl Fatima (Aamina Sheikh) who lives with her father(Khalid Ahmed) and beloved nanny (Naila  Ali),enjoying  a high profile living. Being in love deeply with her artist friend Adil, she is in general a humble and sweet girl who feels s for the suffering ones. Her Nanny, Nusrat Bi belongs to a rural tribe which was been ruled by a politician ‘Khan’ (Qaisar Khan) who govern the basti, called ‘Khuda Ki Basti’ completely. Nusrat’s family is the one who actually serves food to the orphan children of the basti and is hated by the feudalist Khan. Nusrat Bi takes a leave from her work to help her brother who stole wheat from khan’s reservoirs. Ahmed though escapes once Khan gets to know about it, but Nusrat becomes a victim of him and is been raped brutally and killed afterwards.

images (9)

When she didn’t return, Fatima visits her house and finds her dead body lying in front of her.  People of the basti, though tried to hide the truth but soon she gets to know about it when she decides to continue Nusrat’s services by feeding orphans. Khan, who wanted to be their god again finds Fatima as an interruption and his people kidnaps her when people started supporting her against the move. Ahmed then tries to get her free and in the darkness of night, his gunman kills Khan’s own son.

The movie ends only here showing Khan to be arrested by the police and the free food service turns into a hotel.

Yes, this is it all! Let me just quickly share the strong points and the weak ones here.

Strong points

Flawless acting by all the characters

Beautifully directed

High quality graphics

Good music

Well-written dialogues

Weak Points

The plot could have been better

All the actors are known for being the drama faces. Seemed more like a HUM TV drama!

Overall maintained a slow pace!

Abrupt ending! Abrupt indeed!

It is yet hard to pass any comment over its business because what I have been keeping in view is the crowd which I experienced in the cinema. Though Chennai express seems to enjoy 6 times more business than Josh, Josh still has its patriotic touch.

‘Ishq Khuda’ Listed for screening at Bollywood Film Festival, Norway!

0

Now here is the real crispy news for all the Pakistani film lovers. Another Pakistani movie which was released this Eid nationwide ‘Ishq Khuda’, starring Ahsan Khan and Meera, will be making its way to  Norway as it has been listed for screening at the Bollywood Film Festival, held in Norway.

More excitingly, the world premiere of the said movie was also arranged in Toronto, Canada before its official release in Pakistan and the Canadians appreciated the work and found the Pakistani content interesting.

ishq-e-Khuda-4

The entire team is delighted with the news and would soon be leaving for Norway to find new goals for the movie which had to face a tough competition within country soon after its release.

Meera, who played the lead in the movie ‘Ishq Khuda’ declared the venture as the best movie of her career and despite of the statement she passed that the movie would be her last film, Meera is enthusiastic again to do more films after the success the movie has earned.

It is certainly a pleasure to see our Lollywood movies sustaining the pressure and earning good ratings not only in Pakistan but all over the world.

We wish more power to the team,

Blessings,

‘Humsafar’ to air on Indian Channel ‘Rishtay’- Public delighted!

0

Every era has its own gem and this one, for sure has ‘Humsafar’ to make itself proud even after decades. Just like we adore ‘Dhoop Kinare’ or ‘Tanhaiyaan’ still, Humsafar  is one of the similar  serials which would be remembered after 50 years from now onwards. These days when the Pakistani showbiz industry is all over loaded with the foreign content, there were people who complained  of the fact that if there is no harm in airing foreign dramas then the Pakistani dramas too, should be aired on channels of countries like Turkey, India and Iran.

It is surprising to find that its Humsafar which is going to be on-air on an Indian channel ‘Rishtay’ evey weekend, that is, every Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 pm. If you notice, this is the same time when it used to be seen in Pakistan, every Saturday, 8pm and the difference of time in between the two countries is half  an hour to be accurate.

humsafar

The news is amazing but not shocking because already it was known that Humsafar had its fans all over the world and Fawad Khan and Mahira are frequently discussed on India-forums (The largest discussion forum of India) where Fawad was also wished on his Birthday. No doubts about the quality of the serial in every sense and it well deserves to earn respect and recognition of this level.

The local audience is over joyed with the news as it has been taken as a symbol of respect that even the Pakistani dramas are no more less than any other drama and in fact, Pakistan has all the potential in every field to meet up the race of the world.

We are delighted with the news, How about you? Share your valuable views,

Once again, Humsafar, we are proud of you <3

Best Wishes
