Not a single day has passed with ease and no tension after the inception of two countries Pakistan and India in 1947. The two have always kept some long lasting grudges against each other for any reason. Recently the athletes of Pakistan were made victim of this long rift between these two and recently Indian extremist group Bharti Janata Party BJP has warned Pakistani writers not to enter the soil of their mother land India to attend Jaipur Literature Festival or face the dire consequences.

According to the recent updates BJP in their threat have made advancements and now total 7 writers from Pakistan are literally banned to enter the India to attend the festival. This harsh behavior from the BJP was seen when work of seven Pakistani writers including some prominent names like Jamil Ahmed and Mohammed Hanif are shortlisted in 2013 festival for certain award category. These steps from an Indian extremist party are a clear indication of hatred and their narrow mind behavior.

Actions are louder than words, that is the phenomenon everyone believes however BJP stands out unique and once again not only their actions are loud but their words too hence it was proved by BJP’s Yuva Mocrcha state President of Rishi Bhansal “we will not allow them to enter the festival venue. There is no question of welcoming the Pakistani authors here at a time when their country has disrupted peace at the border.” It is a clear indication of threat against Pakistani writers who might be deprived of a golden opportunity in this festival. Last but not least even the organizers of the event showed least interest of managing this issue and trying to cope up with the situation and stated “all sessions would be held as per schedule in the presence of all guest authors.

Actions of hatred and hostile behavior are always condemned and opposed by the sane mind and these actions taken by the BJP is one of them. They criticized on both side of the border and almost on every level too. A peace loving human nature will never welcome such actions and will try to diffuse these types of tensions between two people if he could and that is what Pakistan and India need at this very moment. There have been a lot of debates sessions and even conferences to have peace talks talk between the two neighboring countries however they seem to fail games and literature abstaining from politics of the countries.

Cricket World Cup is here and fans all over the world are gearing up for their favourites to give their best and try to lift that trophy. The Pakistani cricket team is facing some problems due to injuries of ace bowlers but we are still in high spirits and getting ready to win this time. One thing that is on the waiting list of all cricket fans each year is the official anthem for the tournament and this time around the host country India’s anthem was not appreciated by the fans.

Pakistanis have now come up with their anthem for the World Cup by Pepsi. The anthem is called Koi Nahi Like Us and it is sung by Young Stunners, QB, Hydr and Ahsan Mughal. The stars of our team are shining and fans are loving the beats of this anthem. It was a welcome surprise for fans that were disappointed by the officail anthem.

Nadia Khan has been criticizing the direction Pakistani dramas have taken in the past few years. She criticized the new trend of showing two marriages like it was something very common in Pakistan and she also criticized dramas which were showing illicit relationships openly. Junaid Khan and Ushna Shah were Nadia Khan’s guests in her show few days ago. Junaid Khan played the role of a wife beater in Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu and Ushna Shah’s character in Dua did Halala with Junaid Khan’s character. Both these actors have done things in dramas which Nadia Khan was criticizing. When asked why our dramas were showing such things Junaid Khan said,

“There was time when there was only PTV and when dramas like Dhoop Kinaray and Tanhaiyan went on air families used to watch television together. Things have changed now, now only women watch Pakistani dramas. The audience has totally changed. These women are the ones who derive all the ratings so whatever they demand is written by writers and these are scripts that are being executed on television.”

Unlike Junaid Khan Ushna Shah did not agree with going with the popular demand she said,

“I disagree with that because as people in the media we have a collective responsibility to educate the people.”

To this Junaid Khan added,

“In order to educate the masses the channels have to come out of that race of TRPs. When dramas are not getting ratings, the channels change the formula immediately, they cut whatever is going on and go with the formula that brings in ratings.”

Answering the question what this formula is Junaid Khan said,

” I have seen many plays which are very controversial but they get very popular. Our women criticize these plays but also watch them. When you’re watching a content then you are making it a hit. Even on social media they post controversial content on purpose because people share such content. People discuss it even if it is to call it bad. Even if you write a single sentence regarding something you are adding to its popularity even if that sentence is not in favor.”

In a way Junaid Khan said that viewers were to be blamed for the deterioration of dramas. Here are some pictures from the show:

Barzakh is a Zee Zindagi series. It is directed and written by Asim Abbasi who is also famously known for his film Cake and his Zee Zindagi web series Churails. Barzakh cast features Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed, Muhammad Fawad Khan, Khushhal Khan, Uzma Beg and Salman Shahid. The series has been shot in the beautiful locations of northern areas of Pakistan.

So far, three episodes of Barzakh have been published on YouTube. The first episode has garnered 2.2 million views, the second episode 776 thousand views, and the third episode 288 thousand views. Barzakh’s views have massively decreased after the release of the later episodes because many Pakistanis revealed that the series didn’t resonate well with them because it promotes something that is against the Islamic teachings.

Well, Barzakh is facing severe public backlash for its bold narrative. Viewers are angry on the Pakistani actors who worked in Barzakh which openly promotes the LGBTQ agenda that clearly goes against Islam. The series is also receiving criticism due to the involvement of Indian makers. Fans feel that these makers are deliberately promoting the same themes which they are promoting in their own dramas and films. Fans are of the view that if Pakistani creators will continue to collaborate with Indian drama makers, Pakistani dramas will also see a decline like Indian dramas. Fans are also angry at the critics who wholeheartedly promoted Barzakh. They are expressing dissatisfaction and stating that the critics need to first go through Islamic teachings before defending it. Also see the clips of critics about Barzakh who are promoting it.

We have all watched the American and Indian versions of Fear factor, now Pakistan is coming up with its own version which will be aired soon on ARY. Fear Factor is a reality game show in which different people or celebrities participate and perform stunts that usually are very extreme in nature. It is about time that Pakistan came up with its own version of this very popular show because it will give the Pakistani viewers a good dose of reality TV.

According to the details, the shooting of Fear Factor Pakistan is being done in Thailand. The contestants comprise of six Indian and six Pakistani actresses. The show is going to go on air next year. The Indian actresses who are participating in the show include Leena Jumani, Melaine Pais , Shafaq Naaz, , Priyal Gor , Hritu Dudani and Priyamvada Kant.

The Pakistani actresses participating in the show are Mehwish Hayat, Madiha, Zeba, Sana, Sana Askari, and Ayesha. Sounds very interesting indeed!

According to the news Shafaq Naz was the first one to get eliminated because she was the weakest contestant. Leena Jumani hurt herself and had to quit the show. According to the news most of the actors were not available to comment on the show but Leena Jumani confirmed, “I got hurt in the game show, therefore I quit in between and came back but it was an wonderful experience to shoot in Thailand.”

This Tuesday Pakistani Twitter was enraged when the editor-in-chief of Newsweek Pakistan issued a series of tweets minimising child sexual abuse and made lewd comments to female critics.

Faish Ahmed, a former staff writer at the Wall Street Journal, tweeted:

“The sexual abuse of children will always exist. You can never eliminate it. Sometimes it leads to great art. So there’s also that.”

The comment was Ahmed’s take on the current furore in Pakistan surrounding the rape and murder of 12 children as young as 6 years old by a serial killer in the city of Kasur.

The Newsweek journalist also appeared to think it was a good thing that the killer’s victims were all female, tweeting:

“On the bright side, at least he’s straight.”

Ahmed also made light of rape more generally, joking,

”Rape by, say, Tom Cruise is everyone’s dream come true”,

and suggesting that sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein would be rape but sexual assault by cricketer Imran Khan would not be, “because one is ugly and one isn’t.”

Asked if he would make the same comments about child abuse producing “great art” regarding slavery, Ahmed asserted:

“Slavery did lead to incredible art. No questions there”.

People called him out for making a mockery out of child abuse. Alyssa Milano, the American actress who initiated the #MeToo campaign, tweeted to Newsweek about Fasih.

Fasih Ahmed also happened to be a board member of Lahore Literary Festival so this sparked a call for a boycott of LLF until Ahmed was removed from the board and later the LLF announced that Fasih Ahmed has resigned from the board of the Lahore Literary Festival.

Ahmed later issued a public apology on Twitter:

Personally I do not understand how those words can be excused in the name of “dark humor” and neither did the rest of the twitter so they didn’t stop until they made LLF remove Ahmed from the board. Let this be a reminder that be it Pakistani Elite or criminals with Political support no one is off the hook and if we stand together we can hold people accountable for their actions. Let it be known that their actions have consequences.

Kya Drama Hai is a 24 New HD show which is especially designed to review top Pakistani prime time dramas. The dramas are judged or reviewed by three senior Pakistani television artists which include Nadia Khan, Atiqa Odho and Shamoon Abbasi. The show is hosted by Mukarram Kaleem who is a former actor. The show always makes headlines for its extremely negative reviews for hit television dramas and top Pakistani actors. Nadia Khan and Atiqa Odho have previously slammed hit dramas like Meem Se Mohabbat, Bismil, Sunn Mere Dil, Jaan Nisar and Ishq Murshid.

Lately, Nadia Khan, Atiqa Odho and Shamoon Abbasi have unanimously criticized Ayeza Khan and Feroze Khan’s new drama serial Humraaz.

In the show, Nadia Khan said, “Humraaz drama might have been watched more if it had been released in the old days, when there was no internet, no cable channels, no mobile phones, no activities, no friends, and no other form of entertainment and a person would have been forced to watch only this drama. Only in such a case could this drama have been watched. It can only be a forced watch”. Nadia Khan also called it 2025’s worst and badly directed show.

Humraaz viewers are quite angry at Nadia Khan and the Kya Drama Hai team for their unnecessary criticism of Humraaz. Ayeza Khan and Feroze Khan are being defended by fans, who feel the judges are being unfairly critical of actors and drama makers. One fan wrote, “Nadia Khan always speaks against Geo TV dramas. You can check the history of her shows — she is consistently against Geo TV productions. She is okay with other channels” Another commented, “Nadia Khan always targets a new drama. She speaks so nonsensically against a TV show, and the other judges start shaping their opinions based on hers. They should have some mercy on people’s hard work and effort.” A fan remarked, “Look at them — they’re saying Ayeza looks old. Whatever she looks like, she still looks younger than Mehwish Hayat.” Another wrote, “It’s a Feroze Khan drama, and it will be a hit despite their obnoxiousness.” Someone else said, “Even cricket commentary isn’t this ruthless. Fatima Ali is a chef based in New York. She is only 29 years old and is the first Pakistani ever who won the culinary show Chopped. She is a certified chef who studied in the Culinary Institute of America and later worked in many big restaurants. Fatima also later became a contestant on Top Chef. Last year, tragedy hit when she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma which is a bone cancer. She fought it and defeated it in July.

Her cancer, however, has relapsed and has been declared terminal by the doctors. Fatima just has one year left of her life. But instead of retreating and crying, she has decided that she will make the best of her time and will be fulfilling all her wishes. Her story also caught the attention of TV show host Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen invited Fatima on her show and also gifted her 50,000 dollars so she can fulfil her wishes of dining at the best restaurants in the world and travel. Here is her interaction with Ellen:

Fatima also met Ellen Degeneres and was trying her best to be strong and happy in her last days. The young lady has left this mortal world as she lost the battle against cancer. The recent story that will win your hearts is a 26 year old tailor from Mianwali District, Qaiser Hassan who has been doing a great deed for 6 years now. He sews new clothes for orphan kids of his area every Eid for free. He shared that he does this as he cannot help those kids financially.

Despite of all the love and patriotism, the fact remains a fact that Pakistan is turning into a country where one can surely not expect his life, family and money secure. Fehmina Chaudhry, a Singapore-based Pakistani model is found murdered in Islamabad after been kidnapped for ransom on October 12th’2013. It has been said that the model was lured by Muaz Waqar who brought her to Pakistan and demanded Rs. 2 Crore against her release.

Police officials told that the accused Muaz Waqar was traced out with the help of the phone record and he confessed the murder during investigation.

 
After the confession by the accused, police took him to the crime scene and recovered the dead body of Fehmina Chaudhry. Fehmina had two children.

 We condemn this murder and all the incidents where we witness a complete failure of law enforcing forces.

Pakistan has a lot of talented people and it is moments like these which make us realize the true potential of our youth.

A student from SZABIST, Shahrukh Khan’ short documentary called What  a waste has been selected for the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival 2017.

He made the documentary for one of his final year course called Documentary Vision. It tells the story of gold-panners who work in the jewelry market of Saddar in Karachi.

The story is about an ancient profession that is passed down from generation to generation in an ever growing urban landscape.

Khan spoke to the Express Tribune and said:

“I am speechless. It’s a dream come true for me. We had our documentary vision course last semester and I submitted a draft of the documentary. But I continued to work on it until this February so I could send it to Cannes”.

“My instructor was the one who motivated me to go for this topic. Then I sought guidance from Shehram Mokhtar, who is currently in the US, via Facebook”, added Khan.

He finished the documentary last month where Moiz Faisal was the director of photography, Salman Ahmed was the music composer and Ammar Alee Danish was the editor.

The student had found his inspiration in British documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia,Wong Kar Wai and Christopher Nolan.

When asked about whether he will go and attend the festival, he had to say:

“I can’t afford to, but I will have to look for any sponsorship. If I get a chance to go, I definitely will”.

Red Sea Film Festival is another big festival in the world of cinema that started out in Jeddah Saudi Arabia and film stars from all over the world attend the event and good films are showcased. The nationalist party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is speaking out loud that they want the Pakistani stars to leave India.

According to the Indian Express the film workers association of Raj Thackeray’s party have given the final warning to the Pakistani stars to leave India in next 48-hours. The party members also made this very clear that if the stars will not leave them self they will make them do that forcefully.

“We gave a 48 hours deadline to Pakistani actors and artists to leave India or MNS will push them out,” said Amey Khopkar, MNS Chitrapat Sena.

Due to the increasing tension between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue, some of the Indians have started speaking about the artists very rudely. Previously an Indian Journalist wrote a very harsh letter to Fawad Khan. However, some of the Indian disagree with such idea of banning Pakistani stars in India and also wrote a counter letter stating that Fawad is not a politician but a star.

This isn’t the first time Fawad and co have received threats from India’s nationalist parties. In October last year, Shiv Sena activists had threatened Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan.

Every year on 14th August, Independence Day, the incumbent President of Pakistan announces the highest civilian awards for the countrymen as well as foreigners who have contributed to the well-being or progress of the country. With Awards season going on in India, many awards are set to hit the screens. Stardust and a few other awards ignored our Pakistani stars in their nominations list but Filmfare which is one of the most popular awards in India released the list of nominees recently and we found some popular Pakistani stars name proudly standing in the list in their respective categories .

Fawad Khan got nominated for the Best Supporting Actor for Kapoor and Sons! Competing with him are Diljit Dosanjh for Udta Punjab, Jim Sarbh for Neerja, Rajat Kapoor for Kapoor & Sons, Rajkummar Rao for Aligarh and Rishi Kapoor for Kapoor and Sons. Fawad had earlier too bagged the Best Male Debut Award at Filmfare for his 1st Bollywood movie, Khoobusrat.

Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan also bagged the nomination for Best Playback Singer (Male). Atif made waves with his “Teray sang yara” song in Rustom while Rahat’s “Jag Ghoomeya” in Sultan was one of the hit tunes of 2016. Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch got nominated in the category of Best Playback Singer (Female) for her strong vocals in Kari kari from the movie, Pink!

Eastern Eye publishes a Global Asian Stars List every year and Asian artists working and residing all over the old get their work acknowledged in the list. We have seen many of our stars making it to the publication as well. Journalist Asjad Nazir is the one who makes this list and he has done a great job acknowledging the work and global reach of Asian stars in the field of entertainment.

Pakistani stars like every year have also made it to the list. Pakistani stars are loved all over the world due to the popularity of Pakistani drama. This year also we are seeing our stars joining the ranks of highest rated Asians artists. The Pakistani winner this year is hands down Wahaj Ali who managed to bag a spot in the top 10 for the Eastern Eye list.

Wahaj Ali has been ruling the screens as well as the hearts this year. His stint as Murtasim Khan in Tere Bin put him on the map and he has fans all over the world now with a big chunk coming from India. He is the only Pakistani in te top 10 for the year 2023.

Riz Ahmed:

Riz Ahmed is a star from Pakistani origin who has worked a lot for Muslim representation in Hollywood. He has given some path breaking performances and his work has been appreciated all over the world. He got the 11th rank on the list.

Arooj Aftab:

The grammy winning Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab has also made it to the list and she is on the rank 24.

Yumna Zaidi:

The Tere Bin leading lady Yumna Zaidi is on the 32nd spot on the Eastern Eye list for 2023 and her fans will be delighted to hear this.

Ahad Raza Mir:

Another Pakistani to reach the list is Ahad Raza Mir. He got the 42nd rank on the list. He has made his debut on Netflix, on British television and currently he is working in Pakistan’s first ever Netflix series Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo.

Pakistani dramas have a huge fan following, not just in Pakistan but abroad as well. We have seen dramas getting billions of views on YouTube and Pakistani dramas are watched largely in India in addition to Pakistan. Indian fans have always loved Pakistani dramas and these dramas have led to some huge fan following of actors like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Sanam Saeed, Farhan Saeed, Hania Aamir and now-a-days everyone is going gaga over Wahaj Ali and Yumna Zaidi over the phenomenal success of Tere Bin.
