A woman hailing from Lahore has come forward and levelled violence and sexual abuse allegations against Pakistani cricket captain Babar Azam. The alleged victim named Hamiza Mukhtar held a press conference at the Lahore Press Conference to level the sensational charges against the Pakistan skipper.
Speaking at a press conference the woman claimed that she was Babar’s neighbor and old school mate, adding that the young cricketer tricked her into love and marriage. “When I asked him to marry me, he tortured me,” she said.
Speaking further, Hamiza claimed that Babar Azam proposed her in 2010 and she eloped with the batsman for court marriage in 2011. She insisted that she had to elope with Babar Azam because neither her nor his family were ready for their wedding. She further said that Babar Azam eventually refused to marry her.
“He has been exploiting me for ten years by giving false promises of marriage,” said the woman while also sharing that they had lived then in different houses at Gulberg and Punjab Housing Society.
Hamiza maintained she provided huge financial support to Babar with her beauty salon income. She said that in ten years Babar Azam took crores of rupees from her out of which not a single rupee has been returned yet. Not only that, she also claimed that she has played a key role in making Babar Azam a cricketer by financing him.
During Saturday’s press conference, the woman’s lawyer said that an FIR had been lodged with the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore regarding the matter but no action was taken. Hamiza’s petition is now pending at the Sessions Court, which is scheduled for a hearing on December 4. The sexual harassment case will be heard on December 5.

Lahore Say Agay, the sequel to Karachiq Say Lahore is all set to release on September 10, 2016 under the banner of Showcase Production. It is directed by Wajahat Rauf, who also directed the prequel, and penned by Yasir Hussain who also plays the lead male in the film. Saba Qamar is playing the female lead.

Lahore Music Meet’s third edition at Alhamra Art Centre is all set to take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017. The vision behind it is to promote and develop the entertainment industry of Pakistan.
“The event is being organised to support the Pakistani film industry and we hope it will play a constructive role in trying to resolve issues faced by musicians,” LMM organiser Natasha Noorani told The Express Tribune.
The event will include musical performances and lectures as well.
Since the past two years, LMM has seen many music personalities and budding singers. This year, the organizers are expecting a bigger turn out.
“We identified many issues faced by the music industry in the past two LMM’s and this year we hope to do the same. We have convinced big names like Sajjad Ali and Ali Azmat to take part in this year’s festival as well,” added Noorani.
Meesha Shafi, Momina Mustehsan, Haniya Aslam, Javed Bashir and Arshad Mahmood among other local singers will also conduct lectures on the occasion.
Story telling sessions will also take place including Patari Tabeer, Women On The Scene, Art Sound and Space, Sore of a film, Heritage & Archiving: Preserving music in Pakistan, Presenting the Presenters, Story telling through dance, Talking Tablas and Beats and many others.
The third edition of the Lahore Music Meet came to an end on Sunday.
The two-day festival attracted a huge audience as it consisted of a lot of activities dealing with music and discourse about music.
Meesha Shafi was one of the speakers at the 2nd day and she talked about how she has grown up visiting the halls of Alhamra with her mother where the music meet took place.
She said her connection with the performing arts had seen many years. About her singing and stepping into the Coke Studio, Meesha said she was particular about rhythm, her entrance to the Coke Studio was the outcome of a phone call which was about singing at the Coke Studio. She described how she and Jamal composed the tune for Manto’s story Thanda Gosht in the film, Manto.
The bands performed on Sunday were MU, Mohammad Aizaz, Mehdi Maloof, Patari Tabeer, Shajie, Hathi, Saakin, Tonight, Us, Jaubi and Noah’s Heark.

In October 2016, Pemra imposed complete ban on airing of Indian content in Pakistan and directed all satellite television channels and radio stations to follow the code of conduct or face repercussions. Advocate Taffazul Rizvi, counsel for petitioner, said his client in 2010 had been granted a 15-year licence by Pemra to operate a cable channel, ‘Filmazia’ and under the licence it was allowed to broadcast 10 per cent of foreign content including Indian.
He argued that Pemra, without citing any legal reason in October, 2016 issued an order to ban all Indian content on cable channels in Pakistan. He further said “The government is indulging in selective patriotism as Indian movies are allowed to be exhibited in cinemas all over the country showing its double standards.”
The petitioner prayed the court to set aside the circular issued against them and allow them airing foreign content. After hearing the arguments, LHC Chief observed that when Indian movies are being screened in cinemas in the country then what reason Pemra or government has to ban Indian content on Pakistan TV screens. The court adjourned the hearing till February 9.
Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi are two renowned Pakistani celebrities who recently grabbed online attention after the court announced its verdict in their long-awaited legal case, which was a defamation suit filed by Ali Zafar after Meesha Shafi accused him of harassment in 2018. The verdict was announced on 31st March. The sessions court revealed it did not find Ali Zafar guilty of harassment. According to the court’s ruling, Meesha Shafi was fined Rs. 5 million on charges of defaming the singer’s reputation. The court observed that Meesha did not appear in court and could not provide sufficient evidence, while Ali Zafar presented all his witnesses before the court.
Now, the Lahore High Court has revised the decision and provided major relief to Meesha Shafi. The Lahore High Court has partially suspended the Rs 50 lakh damages imposed on Meesha Shafi in the defamation case filed by Ali Zafar. However, the court did not provide full relief and upheld the earlier restriction that bars Meesha Shafi from repeating her sexual harassment allegations.
The court also instructed Meesha Shafi to deposit half of the penalty amount and provide a surety bond for the remaining sum. The LHC also issued a notice to Ali Zafar, asking him to respond to the appeal. Watch here:

A video clip from the Lahore High Court is circulating on social media in which a female and a male lawyer were seen arguing. During the heated exchange, the female lawyer allegedly hit the male lawyer, which escalated the situation. After being struck, the male lawyer reportedly retaliated, and the argument turned into physical violence. People on social media have been discussing the viral video, with many claiming that the confrontation was initiated by the female lawyer, while others believe the male lawyer should have avoided responding with violence.Watch the video here:
Social media users have expressed disappointment, stating that the spirit of Ramzan Mubarak is not being respected in Pakistan where every day, a new conflict breaks out among people, and such incidents are also widely shared and debated online. Some users wrote that the incident was provoked by the woman and that she should not have first hit him which escalated the matter. Others argued that although the woman may have hit first, the man should have avoided hitting back and should have handled the situation more responsibly. Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar’s ongoing case remained the talk of the town for years. Meesha Shafi took harassment allegations on Twitter after which Ali filed the defamation case against the singer. Meesha Shafi also filed plea for the quashment of the FIR and followed the trials.
Recently, the verdict has been announced by the Lahore High Court regarding the plea filed by singer Meesha Shafi, Lahore High Court has decided to disregard the plea filed by the singer Meesha Shafi for the quashment of the FIR. The plea has been dismissed by the court.
In the plea , the petitioner challenged the constitution under Section 20 and said they were gagging free speech, however, the plea was denied.

Ever since the Turkish series Ertugrul Ghazi aired in Pakistan, a large sector of Pakistanis have become the series’ fan. Ertugrul merchandise, following the Turkish stars, copying and sharing of quotes and as far as copying the actors demeanours has become all so common amongst Pakistanis after they watched the historic series.
The love Pakistanis have for Ertugrul has now taken consolidation with the fact that Lahore, just got its very own Ertugrul Ghazi statue.
The statue is situated at the Maraghzar Housing Scheme along the Multan Road in Lahore. The figure is the exact depiction of the character Ertugrul atop a horse.
Muhammad Shahzad Cheema, the president of the Maraghzar Housing Scheme, says he decided to have the statue erectd after some of the residents floated the idea of paying a tribute to him.
“These special statues have been made using fibre and metal in the city of Kamalia of Toba Tek Singh district,” shared Shahzad Cheema.
“I won’t mention the cost of these statues; otherwise, their value would get the attention of the public,” Cheema also mentioned.
Right now, only one of the two statue paying tribute to Ertugrul has been unveiled.
“The other is going to be erected soon possibly at a central place.We will call the place Ertugrul Ghazi Chowk,” says Sohail Anwar Rana, the secretary general of the scheme.
The Lahore Eat Festival will be held from Friday March 31, to Sunday April 2. “The festival originally meant to be held in the second week of February has delayed because of security reasons,” recalled Nusrat Jamil of Latitude PR which is promoting the festival.
The festival will be organised by CKO, a company which launched its first food festival in Karachi — ‘Karachi Eat’. CKO director Aslam Khan said Lahore Eat would be held this time at the Fortress Stadium with visitors’ entry from Gate 1, and their exit from Gate 3. Vendors’ entry would be from Gate 2. The event timings are from 4:30pm to 1:00am. “After Pakistan Super League (PSL) final, this (festival) will be the biggest event in Lahore,” said Khan.

Laeeq Ahmed, the seasoned host and compere of PTV is no more with us. He passed away on Tuesday, 27 January 2014 in Islamabad. Late Laeeq Ahmed started his career from PTV in 1964 by hosting a Science based Quiz show. His distinctive work includes Live transmission of 1970’s election, Live Transmission of OIC summit in Lahore, Live transmission of 1977, 1985 and 1988 general elections. In recognition of his contributions, Government of Pakistan awarded him Pride of Performance too.
