Izne Rukhsat (اذن رخصت) Izne Rukhsat is based on the life of some mature characters played by Faiza Hassan, Sabreen Hisbani and Faisal Rehman. The younger generation roles are played by Shehzad sheikh and Sonia Mishaal. The drama might appeal to followers of Faiza Hassan as she is known to do selective work. Story wise it seems to be based upon lost love and emotions and the impacts of these factors on the younger generation.

However the airing of this drama will depend upon the court orders, as the matter of ownership of the script is subdued before the high court as mentioned by Umera Ahmed in this post last year.
Although it was not in my plans to write any more about the new trend of importing foreign dramas which has been followed by few local channels (that we, as a devoted audience used to follow few days back, believing that the channels represented our own culture, our own people), What I just saw now forced me to share this. The news is big enough to take few minutes of your life.
Geo TV has realized that the mistake that the team of Utho Jago Pakistan committed is not going to be forgiven by the people therefore the Geo TV administration suspended the entire team of UJP including the host Shaista Lodhi. Geo TV has also started on a probe to find out who was responsible for what happened on the show.
Shaista Lodhi joined Geo TV a few years back when she left ARY. She has enjoyed much limelight while she worked for both the channels. Shaista Lodhi apologized to the people but the apology was not accepted by the public. Shaista says that she is afraid that someone might try to hurt her children or her therefore she is going to leave the country until things calm down.

After more than a month since airing transmission against Pakistan army and ISI, Geo TV has formally apologized by publishing a detailed apology in Urdu Daily Jang and English Daily The News.
Geo TV has also expressed its hope to end this whole issue and move forward with a positive mind set.
Tere Bin is a popular Pakistani drama which has hooked fans for more than five months. Currently, the drama and the makers are facing severe backlash on the continuation of separation track of Murtasim and Meerab. The most devoted fans of the drama are super angry with the team Tere Bin.

Her funeral was held in London before she was brought to Pakistan where she had another funeral and was buried in Lahore yesterday. While people mourned the death of Kulsoom Nawaz Geo reporter Ayaz Syed thought it was okay to discuss the length and width and height of Kulsoom Nawaz’s grave. This lead to social media’s backlash. Geo News is ready to make a comeback to television screens after serving a ban of fifteen days. The ban was imposed by PEMRA with a fine of 10 million rupees after Geo News transmission against defense institutions.
Though back on air, the channel will be kept under observation by PEMRA to further monitor its conduct. In case of any further misconduct, PEMRA is entitled to take further action. As per Zahid Malik, Legal Director of PEMRA, a directive has been issued to all cable operators to commence the transmission of Geo News.
The channel which had been lately in the news for supporting the airing of foreign content has once again received another blow to its popularity among the viewers. It has been noticed that Geo Network seems to follow its own strategy of making money without keeping in view the customs and traditions of the country it actually represents.
The foreign influence on the channel has finally forced the citizens of Pakistan to speak openly over the issue and it was only today in the live transmission of Ramadan that a caller criticized the channel for giving importance to the Indian celebrities who actually do not even exist for half of the people in Pakistan.

Asha Bhosle is an Indian legendary singer who passed away this week. She has a huge legacy as the sister of Lata Mangeshkar as well as the record holder for the most sung playback songs in the world. Geo Khelo Pakistan has been showing a fair amount of generosity towards the Pakistan cricket team after the tremendous win of theirs in the ICC Champions trophy. After Sarfraz got a BMW and a plot of Land in Behria Town in the show, Muhammad Hafeez also came to the show to try his fortune. He also talked about his team’s victory and the the reasons behind it.

Geo Kahani as the most watched entertainment channel in a designated time period (16th – 18th) in the month of March came as a surprise. For me the surprise element was the channel itself. Geo Kahani is considered a second tier channel of Geo Media house, where Geo TV itself is the leading first tier channel. All the three entertainment media houses (ARY, Geo and Hum) of Pakistan have a first tier channel reserved for their premier programming i.e. ARY Digital for ARY, Geo TV for Geo and Hum Tv. All these media houses also have a second tier entertainment channel reserved mainly for foreign content i.e ARY Zindagi for ARY, Geo Kahani for Geo and Hum Sitaray for Hum Tv. So the standing of Geo Kahani in itself raises many question over the Pakistani drama themes. The television audience which determine the television rating in Pakistan are preferring Indian dramas over Pakistani dramas.
Now Geo Kahani itself has answered the million dollar question that how it achieved such high TRP. As per the press report of Daily Jang (The print media division) the main factor is none other than the theme of mazloom aurat (oppressed woman).
The press report says, the characters of oppressed women (mazloom aurat) have helped Geo Kahani in achieving this standing. The characters of Sareeta (Dusri Shaadi), Jodha (Jodha Akbar), Pragya (Kum Kum Baghiya), Arri (Doli Armanon Ki), Sheharzaad (Sheharzaad) are powerful depiction of an oppressed woman (mazloom aurat). In this man made world, these female characters which are oppressed by their male counterpart are ruling the hearts of the television audience and are thus getting huge TRP’s. The audience of Geo Kahani feels connected to these characters as their stories resembles what they them-self witness in their surroundings.

Surprisingly none of the dramas/characters mentioned in the press report is a Pakistani drama. Many among us complain about the overdose of Mazloom Aurat stories in Pakistani dramas, but the case of Geo Kahani proves that even the foreign dramas rely heavily on the same formula. The television audience which determine the TRP of entertainment channels are fond of watching Mazloom Aurat based story be it a Pakistani drama or a foreign drama. Means the trend of Mazloom Aurat based dramas is not going to end in the near future as entertainment industry follows the rule of supply and demand. Jo Dikhta Hai Woh Bikta Hai, Whatever is in demand, results in the increase in the supply and the Mazloom Aurat theme is surely in demand.
In Pakistan’s drama industry, content is the first thing that matters, if the content of a show is strong enough to hold the interest of the viewers, then it holds the potential to be successful. Since, we are finally witnessing some good dramas, the expectations are rising more and we are seeking new and different concepts. Where at one hand audiences are currently seeing a witty black magic concept in Nazr-e-bad which is amazing and is completely close to reality, on the other hand they’ll be soon witnessing something which may not be the best we all had expected.
Before i continue, i’d say that i hadn’t known about this drama until one of my readers shared it with me and thanks to the reader for shedding light on this one. Anyways, coming back to the point, viewers are currently biting their nails off as they root for some amazing conceptual dramas airing on-screen and seems like after covering some social causes, the dramas are now heading towards a completely different route. Don’t know what i’m talking about? Let’s get this straight, viewers wouldn’t have to watch India’s Naagin because we’ll be having our very own Naagin!
Geo Kahani’s upcoming drama ‘Naagin’ is based on the concept which most of you will be familiar to. Throughout the forthcoming show Naagin, the makers will be revisiting the mythology that Pakistani audiences would have seen in Indian dramas. “Naagin’ is penned by Ifftikhar Iffi and directed by Shah Bilal. So, what is it going to be? A Naagin (shape-shifting snake) transforming into a woman with perfect make-up, mind you, in the blink of an eye!
In recent time, dramas like Sange Mar Mar and Udaari have revolutionized our dramas and none of them has a concept which was derived from any other drama and it isn’t as simple saying that content is an all-time best because the industry is still in the transition phase. However, Naagin is a clear Indian borrowed concept, it might not be a copy but is highly inspired and the concept is something which has nothing to do with our society in particular. Dramas like these work in India because they provide a kind of concept which most of Indian audiences find connectable because these are mythological facts believed by them. However, even though things of this sort are not a part of our country, they still might gain higher ratings because this will surely turn out to be high on drama for the audiences who find the Indian version interesting.
Geo Kahani is starving for ratings and bringing in a concept like this is a prove of it. These kind of concepts tend to grab in the most audiences and they’re going to try it on the local audiences with local content. I see some popular names attached to this play, entering the supernatural genre is nothing wrong but if doing it why not do it with something completely original!

Independent Media Corporation (Pvt) Limited commonly known as Geo television is the largest media house in Pakistan. Apart from television channels, print media (including many english and urdu daily and weekly), music release company (fire records) it is also active in film distribution with its division named Geo Films.
Geo films has so far released very few (less then ten) Pakistani films in past 10 years, including super hits like Khuda Ke Liye and Bol whereas films like Ramchand Pakistani, Virsa (Punjabi) proved unsuccessful while films like Chambaili and Mohabattan Sachiyan (Punjabi) performed average. Like other divisions of Independent Media Corporation, Geo Films has been more active in distributing Bollywood films. Though unlike other divisions it also releases Hollywood films apart from promoting Indian films. As per Geo television/Jang Group, the most successful film (revenue collection wise) in Pakistan i.e. Dhoom3 (an Indian film) was released by Geo Films which collected more than 25 crore (250 million) rupees surpassing Waar.
But now after a gap of almost one year Geo Films has acquired the rights of a Pakistani film named Dukhtar, which will be released on 14 August 2014. Here is full content from English Daily The News
In the flurry of exciting news of current and upcoming film releases, a recent entrant in the Pakistani independent filmmaking scene is Dukhtar (Daughter). It is helmed by Afia Nathaniel, one of Pakistan’s most exciting filmmakers and founder of Lahore-based Zambeel Films, and produced by Muhammad Khalid Ali, seasoned producer at The Crew Films in Karachi. Geo Films has acquired the rights for the Pakistan territory and is making release nationwide release plan for 14 August 2014, the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan. Dukhtar is an international co-production between several countries and has high profile in the independent film community having won several prestigious and highly competitive film production awards like the Hubert Bals Fund, Sorfund and National Geographic’s All Road Seed grant, making Dukhtar the first Pakistani feature film to have all these awards under its belt. “Dukhtar is a powerful story about a mother’s personal quest to save her ten-year-old daughter from an arranged marriage to a tribal leader. It is also Pakistan’s first road-trip thriller shot in the surreal landscapes of the northern areas. I am really looking forward to bringing this film to our Pakistani audiences,” said Afia Nathaniel, its writer-director and producer. Speaking about Dukhtar, producer Muhammad Khalid Ali said, “We worked with some of the top-notch actors of Pakistan, including Samiya Mumtaz, Mohib Mirza, Asif Khan, Ajab Gul, Adnan Shah Tipu, Samina Ahmed, Saleha Aref, Abdullah Jaan and Omair Rana. We have made a film that is uniquely positioned to capture not just Pakistani audiences but international audiences as well.” Post-production on the film is wrapping up and the film’s first look will be released soon. The film’s soundtrack was composed by Sahir Ali Bagga and Peter Nashel in New York. Imran Aslam, President, GEO TV Network adds: “GEO Films has always been at the forefront of the Revival of Pakistani cinema. We have been associated with landmark films like Khuda Kay Liye, Bol and Chambaili, amongst others, which have been significant milestones in this journey. Dukhtar is yet another meaningful film, which is a road movie inviting us to continue the journey”.
Ramadan plays are loved by Pakistanis and every year, we get a few super hits and the stars of those dramas become household names. We had Fairy Tale last year and this year we are getting a fresh pairing on Geo. Geo has also been airing some great Ramadan dramas like Chaudhry and Sons and this year they are gearing up to bring together Talha Chahour and Kabli Pulao sweetheart Sabeena Farooq together on screen.
The actors were seen hanging out around old Lahore and rumours were buzzing that they might be working together. Considering a Lahori background, we might be seeing a Ramadan drama with a Punjabi flavour bind in. The fans of both these actors would love to see them in a Ramadan play.
The drama is written by Samra Bukhari and it will be directed by Ali Faizan. Ali Faizan has directed Mere Humnasheen and Jhoom and his Khumaar is currently being aired.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar is a Pakistani writer who gave some hit drama stories. He gained massive respect for his latest drama Meray Pass Tum Ho. He is a short-tempered man who used disgraceful and disrespecting language against Marvi on a live tv show and became the talk of the town.
Many Pakistani actors raised their voices against Khalil’s behavior and boycotted him. Mansoor Ali called him on his show so that he can apologize for his attitude, but he is not at all ashamed of anything he said.
Therefore, Geo Entertainment and 7th sky entertainment have suspended four dramas and one film script contract of Khalil-ur-Rehman. He has to apologize for using bad language on a live television show. Everyone has a right to live their life the way they want, but it’s unethical for abusing women.
