Alvida – Episode 5

Tonight Haadi and Aroosa’s track was definitely more pleasent than whatever transpired in Haya’s life especially the part that involved Faiez. After watching Chup Raho anything close to a husband cheating on his wife like this and that too with someone who is so close to her is very repulsive. Faiez reminded me of Numair when all I want to do is to forget Chup Raho and all the characters in it! The way the track was handled gave the viewers more of an insight into Haya’s character but the ugly turn it took was not pleasant to see at all. Haya was naive enough to think that she could continue living in someone’s house for an indefinite period of time. Kaukab might be her childhood friend but only someone who is incapable of thinking ahead would think that they can start a whole new life living in someone’s house. Haya’s reaction when she heard that Haadi and Aroosa had gone on a honeymoon went to show that she could not bear to even hear that these two were happy together which is why going back to that house was not an option. I was surprised when Haya told Kaukab where exactly Haadi and Aroosa had gone for the honeymoon because she hung up before her Taya could give her the details about where they had gone. Was she assuming things since she knew that they had gone to Europe? I have no idea!

The timeline was confusing all through tonight’s episode; when Haya talked to her Taya it seemed like she had been living with her friend for quite some time but when we saw Farisa and Saim’s scene in the library it looked like the next day. Later on when she talked to her Taya again after Faiez accused her of hitting on him I couldn’t help but wonder how much time had elapsed since Aroosa was expecting by then. Haya’s feelings for Haadi were portrayed really well and any confusion regarding Haadi’s feelings for Haya were cleared as well in tonight’s episode. Haadi was clearly worried for Haya in the last episode, now that he knows that she is fine, he is happy with Aroosa. I was expecting Haadi to go after Haya but he did not feel the need to do that. Haya’s Tayee also does not want Haya to come back because she knows what turn things will take if Haya is back in the house. Taya’s concern for Haya was heart-warming. It was good to see that Haya has one person in her life who truly cares for her.

Haadi and Aroosa’s perfect life together and their conversations made it look like their time together was limited. Aroosa’s high blood pressure might cause a serious risk to her and the baby and that is when Aroosa will probably make an exit from this drama and Haya and Haadi’s track will start. Although the Faiez and Haya track was covered very convincingly but even then it left a bad taste in my mouth. It would have been far better if Haya did not trust Faiez in the first place and left the house. Haya decided to stay on even after everything that happened, which just did not quite go in line with Haya’s personality. She is impulsive and emotional and people like her do not think too much before walking out of a situation like this. After hearing that Haadi and Aroosa were going to be parents soon, she obviously did not want to go back home but checking in a hotel until she made up her mind about what she wanted to do next would have been far more logical.

Some conversations in this episodes worked for me while others did not work at all. I think Faiez’s plotting and planning should not have been given so much screen time, Haya should have walked out when he came to her room. I have definitely warmed up to Haadi and Aroosa. Naveen Waqar acted really well in tonight’s episode and she really was glowing! No one plays the die-hard romantic better than Imran Abbas, so no complaints there. Danish Nawaz was very convincing as Faiez and Sanam Jung was absolutely brilliant yet again. Sanam Jung has nailed her character; her body language and dialogue delivery is picture perfect. Mehmood Aslam has done complete justice to his role and his character is very likeable too. I am sure he will have a very important role to play in the future too. The preview of the next episode showed that something big is going to happen in Haadi and Aroosa’s life. I am guessing that Aroosa’s character will die very soon.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Topics Our Morning Show Hosts Are Obsessed With

0

There are innumerable Pakistani channels nowadays which air Morning Shows on regular basis. If you are a stay at home mother who likes to switch into television in the morning after children leave for school, there is no way that you can totally escape these shows. You can of course choose to skip the channels on which these shows are airing but in the process you are bound to notice how typical all these shows are. All of them are obsessed with a handful of topics. I think that all these topics are clichéd to the core and they are not doing anything to boost the self-esteem of women in particular in any way. If you’re someone who is not obsessed with weight loss, fair skin and have a stable family life you will not be able to relate to these shows at all.

Here are some topics which have been done-to-death by our Morning Show Hosts but somehow they can’t get enough of them!

Fair Complexion!

When you watch these shows you feel like there is nothing more important in this world than having a fair and flawless skins. The amounts of totkas that are hammered into the minds of thousands of housewives out there who are watching these shows endorse the idea that fair is lovely! We see the same specialists on every single show who tell women how they can be fair.

What happened to promoting intelligence and skill? Why don’t we show women who might not be fair but they are good achievers who have done really well in their respective fields. Why can’t they show women who have fought hard to keep a family together in difficult circumstances? I am sure that Pakistan is full of such beautiful women who will provide an inspiration to all those women out there in a way that they might stop wishing for a fairer skin but strive to have a better life! If all the women in Pakistan become fairer will that put Pakistan on top of developed countries? Will being fair make a woman a better or happy person?

Our Morning Shows should stop feeding the stereotypes that already exit in the society and try and set new standards for women!

1 2 3 4 5 6

Weight Loss!

I really want to call on one of these shows some day and ask them if it is okay for people to be overweight because somehow they are out to prove that weight loss is the key to success. Yes of course healthy eating and exercising is great but why discuss weight loss only from the point of view of beauty. I have never seen the experts on the show discussing it from a medical point on view. It is like a rat-race where everyone thinks that it is their duty to give the best totka for making women in particular lose weight. The way it is done is usually hasty and anything but helpful. I wish we would also hear every now and then that it is okay to be dark and overweight because life is about much more than being skinny and fair!

Making The Most Of A Tragedy

Most of the times when I watch these Morning Show hosts interviewing someone who has been through a tragedy their insensitivity leaves me speechless. The focus is on extracting gruesome details out of the victim and the same questions are asked again and again. The kind of questions that are asked are both unintelligent and thoughtless. Inviting people who can sing something relevant to the “issue” is beyond ridiculous. There is hardly a time when these Morning Shows are out looking for a solution but the focus is always on getting cheap thrills. It is sad that the victims of various tragedies have no choice but to come to such shows in order to be heard.

Marital Issues

I am not saying that these issues should not be discussed but the way they are being discussed in our Morning Shows is not helping anyone at all! And how about those women out there who have a stable family life? Why not give solutions to day-to-day small problems which every person faces rather than discussing the extremes alone? Calling experts to the show who teach men and women to cope with the stress which they might face on regular basis is much more important than discussing petty things about husbands and mother in laws that tick the bahus off.

There was a time when our Morning Shows were obsessed with getting people married even those people who were already married, I am glad that they are over that now. In my opinion our Morning Shows need to be stop focusing on outer beauty and send out a message to the women who are watching which will prove to be an inspiration for them. They need to be more sensitive towards their guests and start asking them some intelligent questions! I have to say that the Morning Show on PTV and Aplus are exceptions which give you some hope, other than that it is a rat-race and I feel for women who think these Morning Show hosts are doing them service by telling them how to be fair and thin! Can you think of any other topics that are Morning Show hosts are obsessed with? Does the obsession with outer beauty annoy you?

Chup Raho – Last Episode

0

“The most watched drama of 2015” came to an end today. I have no idea why ARY went out of its way to promote Chup Raho as the most watched drama of this year but I am quite certain that many of the viewers out there who attached very high hopes with this show were sorely disappointed because of many reasons. The ending of the play was as predictable as it gets! I am not going to give the details away because some of the viewers might not have watched this episode yet but trust me there are no surprises coming your way! If this ending came 10 episodes back or so it would have been more acceptable. Manal’s reaction in tonight’s episode was totally out of place because it looked like she had just found out about what had been going on behind her back. Numair and Rameen’s ending was just as we expected it to be.

Coll 1

I have said this many times before but I feel the need to say this again, Chup Raho was a wasted opportunity. Any drama that deals with an issue as serious as rape can be of service to the viewers and victims out there in more ways than one. Most of us watch dramas for the sake of entertainment but when you watch a drama revolving around the story of a rape victim you most certainly do not watch it because you expect it to be a joy ride but you watch it in the hope that this drama will convey a strong message of some kind and will be much more than the narration of the ordeal of a rape victim and that too in circumstances which most often seem forced. Rameen’s character was ill-conceived right from the get-go. The way Rameen’s character was introduced in the first episode was confusing. It was almost as if Rameen was flirting with her brother-in-law although clearly that is not how it was meant to be shown. All through the drama there was more focus on abuse and the ill-treatment meted out to Rameen was used to take the story forward for the longest time.

The first few episodes were extremely rushed as if the director and the writer were desperate to get the viewers hooked to show. Once the viewers were watching the show on regular basis it became repetitive and senseless. Rameen was violated much before the viewers got an opportunity to understand her character, Numair’s character however was very well-etched-out right from the beginning. I always felt like the victim was used to get the public attention in a very wrong way. Rameen’s ordeal was stretched beyond end and the fact that there was absolutely no character development in the play right till the second last episode was absurd. Rameen had “fits of wisdom” when it came to giving advice to other people but when it came to making her own decisions she preferred Numair and Azar over Shiraz.

Coll 2

This drama failed to provide even a glimmer of hope to any unfortunate girls out there who are in the same position as Rameen. Rameen should have been a role-model for all such girls; someone who managed to start a new life all of her own (without a man). She could have been someone who put herself in a position where she could help other girls like her because she managed to survive something as horrific as rape and perpetual abuse. That would have been a much better way of showing that a rape victim too can have the courage to face the world and start afresh. The message that this drama gives out is that if a rape victim is naive and stupid for long enough someone will finally come and rescue her! When Rameen walked out of Numair’s house she had the opportunity to do something with her life but unfortunately that did not happen. This drama should have shown how wrong it was to objectify women but the way everything was presented, Rameen’s character was objectified to the extreme. The unnecessary physical contact between Rameen and all the male characters in the play including Shiraz was uncalled for in more ways than one. Rameen “allowed” Numair to touch her even after he had raped her even though she had the option to walk away. It was almost as if no male character in this play could talk to Rameen without touching her!

The drama lost focus to the point that there were times when I had to remind myself that this was a story of a rape victim! Some really good performances by Syed Jibran, Arjumand Rahim, Sajjal Ali and even Feroz Khan could not save the day.

I would like to thank all the wonderful readers out there who took time out to read the reviews every week. Watching Chup Raho and reviewing it was very taxing at times but the feedback from the viewers and our discussions here kept me going.

Don’t forget to share your thoughts about this last episode of Chup Raho and also about the drama as a whole. I will look forward to your input.

Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan are much more than just co-stars. Sonam and Fawad developed a very good understanding while they were working together on the sets of Khoobsurat. Sonam Kapoor has been very open about how much she likes Fawad Khan. In a recent interview Sonam Kapoor shared few reasons because of which she loved Fawad Khan so much. She said, “He is all heart and he is a thorough Punju. He even speaks with a Punjabi accent. We do not realize how similar Pakistanis are to us. He has a great sense of humor. If I love someone unconditionally, it is Fawad.”

khoobsurat3

Sonam Kapoor also told in her interview that although because of his diabetes Fawad Khan is not allowed to consume any sweets but, “Rhea and I feed him chocolates and mithai…..Abhishek Bachan, Imran Khan and Fawad Khan are people I love.”

khoobsurat

The Khoobsurat jodi is all set to work together in another film together. The bond that Fawad Khan and Sonam Kapoor share is that of friendship and love which means that we will seeing them together a lot both on and off screen.

Sonam Kapoor was diagnosed with Swine Flu few days ago and she is undergoing treatment for that right now.

Aik Pal_ Episode 16

0

After a much happening last episode, I was expecting this one to be better, but it was poorly executed. There were a few developments, but they were already expected.

When a husband tells his wife, that he married her because a certain girl asked him to, acts uncomfortable on her mention, and has a completely formal relationship with his wife, it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that he was interested in that certain girl, and hasn’t been able to forget her. Magar kya kahein Noor Fatima ke! Either she already knows, or she is a bigger idiot than we think she is. I wish, the director or writer had made her and Mus’haf’s characters’ thoughts easier for us to figure out. We never know what they are thinking. What does any of them want?

Fullscreen capture 3102015 22503 AM

There is a fact about these two characters. They can give me yawns anytime! Omair and even Sharjeel (who is a side character) radiate more energy than these two and Bareera. Mus’haf has been likable as a human being from the start, but not as a character in a TV show. He is too boring for that.

Bareera’s day started with getting up, and deciding that agar Omair khabees hai, tou mein bhi khabees hun!” I knew that her transformation would take time and was glad that they didn’t show her changing overnight. Bareera thinks that there is no way for her to “go back”. She has came so far on the way of ignorance, that even looking back is hard for her. Jesi hun, wesi hi rahun gi is the thought on her mind.

She decided to “drink” her worries away, and then go to dance at a night club, but found herself wondering, “Mujhe khushi kyun nahi mil rahi?” Maybe that’s because she is searching for happiness and peace of mind at the wrong place?

Fullscreen capture 3102015 22722 AM

There was a repetitive doctor’s visit today. The conversation between Bareera and the doctor gave me a deja vu. The whole scene was meant to tell us that Bareera isn’t taking her medicines anymore. Later, when Bareera decided to go to the club, seeing her acting like a normal person, Omair wondered if “she had stopped taking her medicine”. That could mean only one thing, Omair has been making her take meds that would have adverse effects on her health. Evilness personified.

Fullscreen capture 3102015 22444 AM

The dance scene was too long to tolerate. It could have been shorter because it’s purpose was to make Bareera feel that despite the fun she had dancing or drinking, she has no cure for her loneliness.

Omair finally found out the name of the owner of his rival group, and it’s Mus’haf Ameer Ali. Although Omair didn’t recognize the name yet, it will be fun to see the look on his face when he remembers, that it is the same Mus’haf he bullied in college.

The highlight of the episode, was the meeting between Bareera and Noor Fatima arranged by Nadia. Although it is weird for any woman to “thank” another and say aap ki wajah se mere shohar ne mujh se shadi ki, but this is Noor Fatima we’re talking about! However, Areej Fatima nailed the look on Bareera’s face after knowing about Mus’haf’s status and that she is the reason of someone else’s happiness. The disappointed plus surprised look was spot on. But this is not the only time Areej Fatima was great today. The drinking and club scene was well-acted as well. Although, I was surprised when her sequin-covered blouse changed itself! Danish Taimoor’s acting is brilliant as well. He isn’t a boring villian, infact he is better than the hero at keeping interest alive in the show.

What did you guys think of the episode?

Areeba Mohsen

P.S: Guys, I will be doing a combined review of episode 16 and 17 after the 17th episode, because I’ll be busy with exams the next week.

Dusri Biwi- Episode 15

You know, ARY Digital shouldn’t have changed their TV symbol thingy on Women’s Day because the content they are bringing forward totally rejects the idea of ‘women empowerment’- tonight’s episode of Dusri Biwi showed how both the biwis are totally dependent on Hassan’s ‘faisla’ (the word ‘faisla was on a roll tonight) and Aashi, especially, doesn’t seem to have the courage to take a decision for herself. However, I would like to say that for the first time ever, I lovedd the way Farhi said it to Hassan’s face, ‘Mein aap say koi rishta NAHE rakhna chahti.’ But what I didn’t like was how she took this decision solely because, ‘Mein Hassan ko khush dekhna chahti hoon. Meri wajah say unki puri family bohat disturbed hai’. I would have praised her a lot more if she had made this decision not to show how much of a qurbaani ka bakra she is but to actually free herself from the hold of a guy who isn’t worth her time and care.

The pet phrase of all the lead characters in this episode was, ‘tumhara kia faisla hai/yeh mera aakhri faisla hai’. If you haven’t seen this episode and want to know what’s happening, here’s what you should know: Aashi is double-facepalming & CRYING, Hassan is sleepy+confused, Saman is lattu over her aunty and unborn bhai (being nauseously irritating is her forte after all), Bhai is senti, Bajjo is over-concerned, Farah is doing what she’s best at- hysterically CRYING & frowning and repeat (the frown is a MUST) and Farah’s dad is doing what he has always been good at- threatening! Don’t believe me? Have a look!

coldb

Aashi is solely relying on Hassan’s ‘faisla’ and I felt that she was actually begging for Hassan’s support, especially when she kept on saying,  ‘Mujhay aur Saman ko tumhari zaroorat hai!’

‘Tum Saman say ulti seedhi baatain mat kia karo, Hassan’- finally Aashi sensed that the case of her already airhead daughter is getting out of hand because of Hassan’s lame promises (believe me, ‘ulti seedhi baatain’ is an understatement!) and she finally pointed out the obvious (which has ALWAYS been a tough job for her confined mind)! You know, someone should hand over a book on child psychology to the writer because NO child in the world calls his/her mother, ‘gandi Mama’ because of a stupid aunty who didn’t stay for more than a week & an imaginary ‘BHAI’ who hasn’t even made an appearance!

Even though it seems that Farhi has made up her mind for once, her father’s reaction suggests that Farhi won’t be able to act according to her decision. Farhi’s parents were aware of Hassan’s marriage right from the beginning so they should have been foresighted enough to realize that their daughter will never be able to have her happy ending this way. Agar Hassan aur Farah nut-jobs hogye thay, tou at least the ‘mature’ duo should have refused to Hassan’s proposal but no no, I still remember how Farah’s mother said, ‘Hassan bhalay shadi shuda hai, ek bachi ka baap hai magar Aamir say laakh darjay acha hai!’

What are your thoughts on today’s episode? Share your views, please!

US TV Shows I Watched

0

There was a time when Ptv used to telecast foreign shows.Who can forget shows such as Knight Rider,Air Wolf,Murder She Wrote,MCGuyver etc. With the gradual decline of Ptv and advent of private satellite TV channels, this culture of showing foreign programming as an effort towards catering towards diverse programming needs of the audiences died down.

However, the foreign shows still entered into our lives via DVDs sold in many DVD stores across the country, torrents and streaming websites on internet. These shows provide us a change and respite from family entertainment and family centric issues that our TV Channels regularly churn out and hence a sizeable chunk of people watch them. Some of them could be seen regularly visiting DVD stores and asking for seasons of their favourite shows.I am going to cover some of the shows that I have watched via DVDs.

Lost

Who could forget the legendary show Lost. It’s about some plane crash survivors who happen to land on a mysterious island and then the forces and characters from the island seem to battle them. One of the important concepts of the show is time travel. It has wonderful characters like Kate,Jack,Sawyer,Hurley etc and tons of mystery in the form of The Others,Dharma Initiative,Black Smoke etc.I saw first three seasons in one go and then waited for every season eagerly. However, the end left me high and dry and I really felt annoyed just like hundreds of other Lost fans out there but till the time it lasted it was a wonderful joyride.

lost

Prison Break

It is as much about prison break as it is about brotherly love.Michael Scofield,a structural engineer gets into Fox River Penitentiary (prison) just to help his brother Lincoln Burrows escape from the prison since he’s being tried for a crime he did not commit while effort is also on to uncover the frameup of Lincoln. The entire map of the prison in the form of tattoo on Michael’s chest was a really interesting plot point. The first season saw the prison break while the second season saw them running from police,Lincoln’s name is eventually cleared here but these people end up in a prison in Panama.I tried watching third season but somehow lost interest and could not make it through third and final seasons.

prison break

The Killing

The Killing is based on a Danish Series. It revolves around the killing of a teenage girl Rosie Larsen, police investigation into it by an obsessed single parent detective Sarah Linden and her partner Stephen Holder who incidentally was to replace Sarah as she had decided to leave her profession and concentrate on raising her son.It also shows Rosie Larsen’s family trying to cope with the death of their daughter and a political campaign. The killer was revealed in Season 2 but in an effort to be different from the original series the whole scenario leading upto the killing was as ridiculous as it could have gotten.I felt really cheated and did not follow the third and fourth seasons showcasing murder of some girls and the investigation into it.

the killing

The Bridge

The Bridge is again based on a Danish Series and and starts with the body of Judge Lorraine Gates found on Mexican-US border.Detective Sonya Cross of US and Marco Ruiz of Mexico are assigned to the case which has multiple bodies and killings. It also reflect upon the unlikely partners Sonya Cross who has difficulty communicating with people having Asperger syndrome and Marco Ruiz deals with a corrupt system and worries about his family. There are other tracks also but these did not interest me.The eventual resolution of the murders once again left me dissatisfied. It had a second season also but I did not bother to watch it.

the bridge

Revenge

David Clarke was wrongly framed for a crime he did not commit and then murdered in prison resulting his daughter Amanda Clarke being put in foster homes and having a rough childhood. She comes back to the Hamptons as Emily Thorne determined to destroy the Grayson family who’s responsible for her father’s death and the miseries in her life. She romances Danielle Grayson and makes way into the Grayson Manor challenging Victoria Grayson who’s always the woman in her dead father’s life who betrayed him.How Emily goes about taking revenge and how her own emotions get entangled form the story. It’s first season was really good, season season lost the streak and third season was full of surprizes but the eventual resurfacing of David Clarke a the end of third season destroyed the show’s foundation according to me and I could not watch the fourth ongoing season of the show.It had interesting characters in Emily,Victoria,David,Nolan,Jack etc.

revenge

Elementary

Elementary is a modern day adaptation of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. It shows Sherlock Holmes recovering from drug addiction and based in New York with Joan Watson being his sober companion initially helping him remain sober and later on taking on the profession of detective work herself. Both of them work as consultants for NYPD.It’s weekly case wise format plus the chemistry between the two lead characters make it for a compelling watch.

elementary

The Good Wife

Alicia Florrick has to utilize her law degree and to work at a law firm Stern,Lockhart & Gardner after her State Attorney husband Peter Florrick is sent to prison for being involved with prostitutes and running a corrupt State Attorney’s Office. At the law firm she has to initially compete with Cary Agos an associate just like her and manage her work and family lives plus the humiliation of being Peter’s wife. She’s attracted to her boss and ex-law school classmate Will Gardner but manages to battle her attraction for him.Besides her family life there is a case to represent every week which adds to the interest of the show. There are many likeable characters on the show like Diane Lockhart, the mysterious detective Kalinda Sharma,Cary Agos,Will Gardner,David Lee,the strange but wonderful Elsbeth Tasioni,Louis Canning,Jackie Florrick etc.Despite in its sixth season it still holds my attention and makes for a wonderful watch,it’s recommended for everyone.

the good wife

Besides these shows I tried watching a few others like The Mentalist but i was bored by the almost magician like abilities of the lead character Patrick Jane who was fake psychic till the time his wife and daughter was murdered by Red John as he wrongfully mentioned him on his fake show. Now Patrick helps the police department solve crimes yet he reads the minds of people he comes across and reveals so much that it becomes hard to digest. On similar lines we have Castle where a writer Rick Castle teams up with a detective Kate Beckett to solve crimes. The characters are good but somehow to me the cases of seasons 1 and 2 which i watched are not good enough.

I tried watching Fargo and The Americans too but somehow i could not make past a few episodes of both these shows.Have you ever followed any of these shows? Do you agree or disagree with me regarding how these shows turned up? Any other shows which you watched and want to mention,do tell.

Digest Writer – Episode 23!

OMG! This episode was intense. It was directed brilliantly but I must say all the credit goes to each & every actor for performing so brilliantly that they actually fizzled out everything else & made us focus only on them. It was a nail-biting episode with amazinggg dialogues & I must commend the writer & the director for keeping us at the edge of our seats till the last moment. We still can’t predict what might happen & this is a beauty of this script.

My favourite scene of this episode? Nope, it wasn’t the proposal scene, it wasn’t the confrontation scene, and it wasn’t the confession scene. It was the conversational scene between Fareeda & Farhaan. ‘Hum baat to mazhab ki hi karte hain lekin darte ma’ashray se hain’. Farhaan promised to stand by Fareeda because he has been with her since the day her struggle started. It was that little boy Farhaan, who used to accompany her when she used to pay visits to Rida Anmol’s place for the sake of few bucks. It was Farhaan who used to go to Bint-e-Hawwa’s office alongside his sister so that she could submit her stories. It was Farhaan who has seen how hard Fareeda used to work, what sort of treatment she used to get & how she used to lie to her mother & sisters when people used to put her down. Yes, Farhaan isn’t oblivious of the fact that it’s only because of his sister Fareeda, that his parents are now living a life in luxury, he has become a doctor, and the rest of his sisters are married. Farhaan is quite well aware of how Fareeda scarified her life in order to shape the lives of her extended family too, which is why he has promised to support Fareeda no matter what her decision would be. That scene was actually quite overwhelming because even after Fareeda has done so much, now when she is in need of other’s support, she isn’t getting any or let’s say now when it’s time to ask for some payback, no one’s ready to do that for the sake of what she has done for them but it’s only Farhaan who has stood by his sister & it only took a few words from him to ease Fareeda’s pain because no one’s ready to understand her for now.

The scene in which Fareeda asks for divorce was so well-directed & well-acted. Fareeda was in a trance after she saw the opportunity presenting itself to her. This is what Fareeda has wanted all her life & she couldn’t believe that it was finally happening. Fareeda wasn’t herself & she let Shehryaar’s words get the best of her & in that moment of weakness, she asked for a divorce. It was so obvious that Fareeda herself couldn’t believe that she finally said it but then, she picked up the pieces, gathered herself & persisted upon getting her demand fulfilled & all that happened in just a spur of a moment & I must commend Saba Qamar for acting that scene out to perfection. Finally, Shaukat, it’s time for you to pay the price for all the hard times you’ve put Fareeda up with. Shaukat has all his life taken Fareeda for granted & the transition from being a rude & least-bothered husband to someone who wanted to do all in his might to stop his wife from leaving was brilliantly portrayed by Gohar Rasheed. Even though we all have seen what a bad husband he has been & even though we all have hated him for being like that, he still managed to gather some sympathy because no matter what we say, deep down we all know that if Sajida wouldn’t have been in the picture, Shaukat might’ve turned out to be a very good husband because he did care for Fareeda a bit like he didn’t want her to work when she was expecting their first child but sadly he chose to side with his mother & stopped bothering about his wife. Even though I say that I do feel for Shaukat, I by no means want Fareeda to stay with him because she deserves so much better.

Sajida & to some extent Aqeela are despicable to the core. The moment they heard about Fareeda’s decision, they didn’t care about what Shaukat must be going through or how hard it must’ve been for Fareeda to stay with them that she was pushed to the limit, rather they both were worried about what’ll happen to them as they’ll be thrown out of the house. Amusingly, they both are so dependent on Fareeda that they forgot about their own flesh & blood Shaukat & were more concerned about how Fareeda can be talked out of her decision. Yes, finally Shaukat decided to speak the truth & gave a reality check to his mother but then I really don’t get Sajida. She has ruined Fareeda’s & Shaukat’s life & she thinks just regretting what she has done& saying a few apologetic words would be enough? I don’t think it’s fair that a person can ruin someone’s life & in the end resorts to a delayed realization & an apology thinking it’ll serve as redemption!

I do understand where Anwar & Zarina were coming from. Yes, they have been very conscious of being dignified all their lives & they don’t want their daughter to have a label of being a divorcee but Zarina’s wishful thinking about Shaukat was misapprehension & nothing else. She is quite an experienced person herself & she has seen ups & downs in her life, so how can she think that Shaukat will change? A person who has been like that for 11 years can now change? I really liked the arguments Fareeda presented which made her parents speechless because Fareeda has done so much for them that now they don’t have any option left than to just side with her which sadly, they didn’t.

As much as I have really liked Fareeda’s friend Shazia, I didn’t like the way she tried to paint a terrifying picture of Fareeda’s life with Shehryaar. Yes, she was being a voice of reason & what she said wasn’t a lie as well but I don’t know why I really want to see Fareeda walking out of this misery. I really think Shehryaar will change Fareeda’s life & make it better. I also don’t agree to Shazia in a way that now just because Fareeda has kids, she is bound to stay with an infidel man. Yes, every kid is close to both the father & the mother but being a father doesn’t only mean racing with your kids or taking them to a park because anyone can do that. Being a father means setting a good example for your kids, teaching them positive things in life, treating the mother of your kids nicely in front of your kids & being a role model for them as well which Shaukat hasn’t been all these years as he was too busy in his meaningless activities, so I really don’t think that just because he has a tag of being a ‘father’, Fareeda once again has to sacrifice everything for her kids & be with a man she doesn’t love at all. I’d hate to see her becoming a sacrificial lamb who first sacrificed her happiness for her parents, then her husband, then her in-laws & now her kids. By the way Surraiya’s question to Fareeda asking if her mother has fought with her father spoke volumes about the kind of impact Shaukat has on the kids.

I don’t know why but I have a feeling that Shaukat will now change & Fareeda will stay with him!?! May be Shehryaar’s presence has been important in a way that it brought drastic changes in Fareeda’s life. First when he came, she got married to Shaukat & now his re-entry will force Shaukat to do some thinking about how unfair he has been to Fareeda because just the thought of her leaving him actually reduced him to tears, so may be Shaukat will treat this as a close-call & change himself for good because even Fareeda seemed shaky after giving words to her thoughts as now she’s not alone & she is a mother too but I really wish Shazia hadn’t said all that to Fareeda. I liked the fact that Fareeda didn’t hide anything from Shaukat & let him know the main reason behind her demand for divorce as she has always believed in being honest & upfront. I so feel for Fareeda because like she said, in a moment of weakness, she allowed her complexes to cloud her decision & she chose Shaukat over Shehryaar. Share your thoughts about this episode & let me know how’d you guys want this drama to end? I say I want to see Fareeda living a life with Shehryaar because after going through so much for so many years, she really deserves to be happy.

Goya- Episode 17 Review

Joining the list of men with two wives is *drumroll* Omar Hashmi. Rahat Hashmi managed to neutralize the threat of Mohini and prevented Haniya from escaping from his fortress. The episode started out with a cameo from Aiza- Ali’s girlfriend who was geared up to dance on Second hand jawaani but fortunately we were spared the trauma of watching the wedding festivities take place. Omar, who was certain he would help Haniya get away was helpless once again because Sr. Hashmi was already onto Haniya. Rahat made his intentions crystal clear- when his prefered gynac returns, she will take care of “it”. Aulaad, rizq, zindagi aur maut kisi aur ke haath mein hai… But Rahat considers himself to be invincible. He has succeeded in having everyone exactly where he wants them.

image image

Nomi is back in the picture- he received the wedding invite of Omar and Zara’s wedding and went straight to Mohini with the news. Once again, Asma reminded her that she lost Omar due to her himaqat but Mohini was severely devastated that Omar didn’t know any better. Mohini was confident that even though Sr. Hashmi would have fed him lies, Omar wouldn’t fall for any of them and would come and find her. Nomi was on a mission of his own- he expressed his love for Mohini and wants her to move on especially now that Omar has clearly moved on.

image

image

Instead of travelling the distance to the wedding venue, why couldn’t Mohini simply pick up the phone and talk to Omar? The recurrent theme in this drama has been the very obvious communication gap- Asma could’ve contacted Omar but she didn’t; Mohini had plenty of opportunities to speak to Omar but she kept avoiding them hoping Omar would magically find her; Zeb has been dropping hints with every breath she takes and yet, no one can manage to get a straight answer out of her. Yet, she continues living in the Hashmi household and has sworn allegiance to Rahat Hashmi. She is tasked with the responsibility of spying on Haniya and she has done a splendid job thus far.

image

When Haniya confronted her and called her out for her filmy dialogues, I was hoping we’d finally have her story revealed but instead, we got to hear her rants about those who take things for granted. It’s almost like everyone knows Zeb’s real identity but prefer to sweep it under the rug. Omar’s rebellion didn’t reap any results and neither did Haniya’s so Rahat continues his reign of terror. Now that Omar has married Zara, Rahat is a happy man and is more open to dialogue. All Omar really wants is to distance himself from his father and for that, he decides to resume work.

image image

The preview for the next episode reveals Zara is becoming impatient with Omar as she feels she wants more from her marriage. Rahat continues his games of manipulation and I think it’s high time he reaps what he has sowed.

Yours in watching,

NO to Honor Killing by Censor Board

Honor Killing is a British Indian film starring British, Indian and Pakistani artists. The film covers the sensitive issue of Honor Killing which is a prevailing issue in South Asia like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan. A large South Asian community is now active part of British society, where cases of honor killing are regularly reported every year.

Honor Killing also stars Pakistani artists like Zara Sheikh and Javed Sheikh. Zara Sheikh has played the role of a British Pakistani girl who loves and Indian boy. The film has already been released in UK and India last year (2014).

The film was due to release in Pakistan last week (27th February 2015) but it was not screened after conflicting decisions by two different censor boards of our country. The federal censor board refused to issue a censor certificate, however Sindh Censor Board issued a censor certificate for the film. The story not finishes over here, as Federal Censor board has revoked the powers of provincial censor boards after this decision of Sindh censor board. As per new rules now only Federal Censor Board can issue the censor certificates to foreign films.

It is the second film banned this year by a censor board, previously Indian film BABY was banned by Sindh Censor Board.

Here is the reference news from the Urdu Daily Jehan Pakistan

p10-017

Another excerpt from Urdu Daily Express

1102721197-1

Before 2011 there was only one federal censor board in Pakistan. However after 18th Amendment in the constitution in 2011 the duty is shifted to provinces. As per constitution each province can have its own censor board. However currently only Punjab and Sindh have established their censor boards. There is no cinema functioning in the province of Balochistan whereas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is yet to setup its censor board. The federal censor board has jurisdiction over federal capital Islamabad, Azad Jammu Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, FATA and cantonment areas in various cities. Also since Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is yet to setup its own censor board, so it is currently served by Federal Censor Board.

In past the decisions of various censor boards sometimes negate others decision as well. In 2014 a Bollywood film Ragini MMS2 was denied censor certificate by Punjab Censor Board. However Sindh censor board and Federal board allowed its screening under Adult censor certificate. It led to an interesting situation as the film was not allowed to release in parts of Punjab controlled by local bodies, but cinemas in cantonment areas can release the film as the cantonment area were under the jurisdiction of Federal Censor Board.

Here is the trailer of this British Indian film.

Jackson Heights Episode 25 – Comfortably Dumb!

Chalo is drama mai aur kuch mile na mile ye jawab to zaroor mil gaya ke Maria Michelle ki hi saggi behan hai kyunki wo usi ki tarhaan bewaqoof aur kam-aqal bhi hai. I really thought she will knock some sense into Michelle after she will hear the truth from Rizwan about Jamshed but too bad, she also got tricked into believing that apparently Rizwan is up for no good & Jamshed is Michelle’s well-wisher. If Maria’s doubting Rizwan, she should doubt, blame & question Michelle first for being friends with such a bad guy for so many years. As far as I remember, both Michelle & Rizwan have known each other for 15 years & oh boy, it only took an incident of 15 seconds to turn Michelle against her best buddy? Why didn’t they show that Michelle still tried to give him a benefit of doubt or on her own she tried to re-evaluate what might’ve happened by at least giving a thought to another possibility? Why is Michelle so comfortably dumb? I must commend Vasay Chaudhry for coming up with a bunch of stupid characters who’re mentally challenged, one after another & the best thing about this script is that they don’t cease to surprise us with their stupidity because just when we think they can’t be more stupid than this, they prove us wrong in the very next episode so for now I really am enjoying this element of ‘stupidity’ in Jackson Heights & now I have pretty much understood the purpose of this drama & script; which is to show that people become STUPID with the passage of time.

I am glad that there were a lot of scenes of Imran & his family because I forwarded those as I knew they were up for emotional atyachaar & I wasn’t in a mood for that. I really want Naani to wake up & meet her son who has come all the way from Amreeka to see her & that’s all that can be said about their track. I really can’t imagine how one-dimensional all these characters are, like why do they always show one side of theirs? Imran’s bhabhi was mean, is mean & she will be mean no matter what but like why is that? The problem with Jackson Heights’ script is that all the characters will only have one side dominant in their characters & nature; if a person is good, he’ll be toooooooo good & if a person is bad, he’ll be tooooooo bad & surprise surprise, if a person is ‘stupid’ (which most of them are) he’ll be tooooooooo stupid.

Chalo shuker hai, Salma ko zubaan to lag gai but abb kya faida? I mean when she has pretty much settled there, she should accept it because this is what she chose for herself & this is what she inflicted upon herself, so why is she on a taunting-spree these days? She is clearly unhappy with Sikandar & his mother, so why is she making sure they know about her feelings because she looks stupid as they know she’s not going anywhere, so her rants & taunts won’t really make a difference in their lives as she is still taking care of them & the household expenses, so her taunts don’t really matter, what matters is that she is making a fool out of herself by saying ke mai jaoongi bhi nahi but rahoongi bhi yahin wo bhi na khush ho ke!?! & is it just me or Imaan’s coming across as a very irritating girl who’s acting like a toddler daddy’s-girl that too at the age of 15? LOL, I mean PHULEEZ!!!

Jamshed, I have a good idea, appne valimay ke khanay mai se 2 – 3 botiyaan Rizwan ko bhi de dena, because Rizwan really doesn’t have a life of his own & he is sooooooo eager to prove that he’s got one, which clearly isn’t the case. Like, how much humiliation is he ready to deal with when it comes to the matter concerning Michelle? Rizwan bhai, appki dost pagla gai hain, so when she is ready to jump in a deep pit, why are you trying so hard to stop that because YES, I know you’re a good person & trying to be a better friend but trust me mere dost, it looks like you really have got no life of your own, so you better search for one & leave the jumping to Michelle because burhapay tak anay ke baad bhi aggar kisi ko aqal na aye to us banday ka phir Allah hi Hafiz hai & oh, how stupid was that India Pakistan ka match dialogue was, LOL! I couldn’t stop laughing at that, like seriously jaisay Michelle na ho gai koi Match ho gai. LOL! Anyways, share your say about this oh-soooooooooo perfect episode please & yuppie, the preview of next episode hinted that it might be the last episode, which I soooooooooo am praying for!!!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

The Fault In Our Dialogues!

0

We, simply being viewers, can’t help but notice that there some fixed, ghissay pittay dialogues to suit some particular situations in our plays. And no matter how lame or difficult to relate to these dialogues are, you are bound to come across them in many different plays.

So here are some of the most oft-repeated dialogues that I find very stupid;

”________________ (fill the blank with the hero’s name) sirf mera hai!”

Anddd this obsession-with-the-guy-who-couldn’t-care-less-about-you is getting has to come to an end! Alright, here’s a girl and she has this super-cute cousin/childhood friend and well, you don’t have to be a genius to figure out that she is in love! It turns out that the guy has eyes for someone else and it’s frustrating that this is the 21st century where there are 101 ways to make your life worth living but this over desperate and deranged girl dedicates the rest of her life to ruining the life of the poor soul whose phooti qismat lies in the fact that that she happens to be the love interest of this male cousin. I think this trend started from Humsafar and I guess the success of Humsafar served as an inspiration.
Many a time the guy doesn’t even give a wrong signal but it’s actually saddening to see educated and confident young girls stooping low to ‘win’ these guys who aren’t worth fighting for! I don’t mean to sound insensitive but if a guy doesn’t like you so what? It’s not exactly the end of the world. Please girls, get a life!!

Coming to this dialogue, it’s not Samsung Galaxy that you’re claiming it to be yours; we are talking about a guy who is alive and kicking and he has his own free will so tell me WHY would you want to spend your life with a guy who is just not that into you??

hmd coll

Bus, uss larki nay humaray larkay ko apnay jaal mein phasalia!”

UFF This dialogue just drives me crazy because I don’t get why are writers (most of them happen to be women too) are hell-bent on showing that only the ‘woman’ in question is solely responsible for ‘phansing’ the man because apparently, this oh so innocent man lacks the ability to tell right from wrong! How is it so easy for him to be swayed by this woman’s charm? Was this guy, by any chance, a preschooler? Was he drugged? Was he mentally unstable? Did this girl point a gun at him? No, No, and No again! Then, tell me how come it’s only the woman who must be blamed?

Mein bohatttt khush hoon. Sab mera bohatt khayal rakhtay hain!” (Reply to ‘Beta, tum khush tou hona?)

And our heroines always end up with shark-like in-laws so when our newly married heroine pays her family a visit, it’s only natural that her face screams, ‘I am DEPRESSED, SUPPRESSED, OPPRESSED’. Her parents greet her with this, ‘innocent’, lingering question,’’beta, tum khush tou hona?’’ The most frustrating part is that our too-good-to-be-true heroine (even though she’s surrounded by psychopathic in-laws who emotionally, mentally, physically abuse her) simply hides her worries by saying, ‘’mein bohatt khush hoon aur sab mera bohatt khayal rakhtay hain’’ (I may look sullen but who cares? Now that you guys mention it, I am actually jumping with joy!) And lo and behold! Her parents, quite conveniently, accept her lies without further question because even though it’s obvious that their daughter’s smile is forced, it’s perfectly okay- these ‘parents’ can’t tell a false/forced smile from a genuine one!

Aray rehnay dain ammi, woh dil ki buri nahe hai, bus zara bewaqoof/nasamjh hai.”

Let’s just say that our writers really need to figure out the difference between people who are ‘pious’ and those who are ‘dimwitted’! In every sister-rivalry play, the evil sis/cousin is defended by her pious sister because apparently, if you’re rude, akharbaaz and materialistic beyond belief, just chill because you are not bad at heart- you are simply immature! The holier than thou heroine (she is the actual bewaqoof here) trusts her sister blindly and the day her sister dearest snatches her fiancé/husband, it FINALLY dawns on her: nahe yaar, my sister was waqai dil ki buri! *weeps*

sis

Aray bechari sharma gayi!”

Here’s the thing: our heroine is in love with someone else so whenever some other suitors are mentioned in front of the girl, she leaves the room in disgust and you don’t have to be a psychic to figure out from her expressions that sharmana isn’t even a part of it because she is simply NOT happy with the proposal but as intelligent as her parents are, they feel kay like any mashriqi girl, un ki beti sharma gayi!

But yes, this dialogue is used in different contexts in different plays so I find it stupid only when the ones saying it actually mean it even when it’s obvious that the heroine walked out in anger.

Tumharay paas sochnay kay liye kal tak ka time hai!”

I think we all have seen demanding, dictator-like parents BUT when it comes to agreeing to a proposal, even the very strict parents give their children ample of time to think things through before saying ‘yes’ to a proposal but in our plays, this 24-hour ultimatum is issued by the parents to the protagonist to say ‘yes’ to a proposal OR to prepare yourself to be disowned! Oh and this proposal in question is mostly put forward by the protagonist’s khala/mamu/chacha/phupo so this explains why the parents are so desperate. I for one feel that such dialogues present an exaggerated and over-strict image of Pakistani parents in general and I would love to see some open minded, 21st century kay parents, please!

Tum nay dia hi kia hai mujhe, siwaye ______ betion kay?”(fill the blank with the number of betiyaan; they may be as many as 7).

A gender-discrimination play without this dialogue? NO WAY! I have lost count of all the gender-discrimination plays I have watched, I have lost count of all the times I came across this dialogue AND I have lost count of the number of times I have seen Waseem Abbas delivering these dialogues. As much as the issue of gender discrimination persists in our society, I think our writers should give this topic a rest for a while- the reason being that this topic has been done to death because of which our writers have somehow lost the art to present this theme in a creative way, under a different light. There are some fixed dialogues and these dialogues are repeated over and over again and that’s exactly why I tend to avoid such plays. Haan, Main Bushra was an exception because the dialogues were penned amazingly well.

Mera Naam Yousuf Hai – Episode 1

Mera Naam Yousuf Hai (MNYH) has been written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, directed by Mehreen Jabbar and produced by Sadia Jabbar. There is hardly a play that tempts you to pen down your thoughts so much that you’re willing to change your weekend schedule for it! I found the promos of MNYH dreamy. Like any other love story written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar this one also promised a lot of filminess therefore I wasn’t surprised at all when Yousuf (Imran Abbas) our main protagonist jumped with joy when he heard Zulekha’s name. Yousuf is a BA pass singer who was probably looking for his Zulekha long before today! He, like his father (Behroze Sabzwari), believes in living in the moment and following his dreams one day at a time. Not much was revealed about Yousuf’s character tonight but one thing that was quite obvious was that he is a die-hard romantic. Zulekha (Maya Ali) however wants to study further and is not looking for her prince charming just now although both her parents (Waseem Abbas and Hina Bayat) want her to tie the knot. Zulekha’s father is a conservative man who would not allow any man to lay his eyes on his daughters. The mother Afia Begum has a very strong personality and unlike wives of many such men we see in our dramas quite often she does not allow her husband to dictate his terms and conditions to her.

MNYH

Zulekha’s father wants her to marry his sister’s son Imran (Taqi Ahmed) but Afia begum won’t allow that to happen since her sister-in-law is not on her most favorite list! Afia Begum wants Zulekha to marry her sister’s son! Zulekha does not have marriage on her mind at all but her parents are leaving her with little choice. Zulekha’s character is that of a confident but simple girl. We will know more about her character in the upcoming episodes. I liked the little of what we saw today. I feel like we need to know a lot more about her character.

78

I must say that this first episode had a great deal going for it. The fact that our hero and heroine met in the very first scene was definitely refreshing. The way their meeting was shown on screen had Mehreen Jabbar written all over it! Yousuf narrated the story of his encounter with Zulekha to his friend like this was the turning point in his life. The relationship of all the characters with each other stood out for me more than anything else. I warmed up to all the characters instantly because of the way that they were introduced. The scene between Mahrukh and Yousuf was sweet. The whole episode was beautifully directed with every single scene falling right where it belonged. The lighting and the angles in every scene were perfect which showed that the director of photography Qasim Ali Mureed definitely put in a lot of effort into shooting every single scene. The production values of the drama are impressive and I love the OST. This first episode definitely proved to be a very engaging one. I can see the hero that our director and writer wanted us to see in Imran Abbas. He is not rich or influential but he is a romantic. Maya Ali looked beautiful and she acted really well too. It is always a pleasure watching Hina Bayat in any drama at all but it is a special treat when you see her playing a role which brings out the best in her. The director or the writer do not seem to be in a rush to tell us everything about the characters therefore that gives the viewers an opportunity to learn more about the characters as the story progresses.

12

This first episode had all the right ingredients in the right proportions; it was not too heavy duty and very enjoyable. It is definitely worth watching, do give it a shot!

If you watched the first episode of MNYH, do share your thoughts here.

Sadqay Tumhare – Episode 22

There were two major developments in tonight’s episode, both of which broke my heart. Humaira’s change of heart and betrayal did not come as a surprise at all since we all knew where the story was heading but the way she made Shano vow that she will not get married to Khalil was definitely a sad case of a friend stabbing her best friend in the back in the worst way possible. Humaira’s true feelings for Khalil only surfaced after Shano told her that she would not mind if Humaira got married to Khalil. Surely, those feelings were already there but those words just triggered them; it could be that Humaira thinks now that it was “okay” for her to feel that way about Khalil, like Shano had given her the “permission” to marry Khalil and now it was upto her to make that happen. I felt like Humaira is in love with Khalil’s love for Shano, she wants to be loved like that. “Us ke khat purh kur mohabbat ho jati hai us se”….Humaira fails to see the look on Khalil’s face when he sets his eyes on Shano, he can surely never be hers but she still wants to buy herself some time. I felt for Shano every step of the way tonight, Humaira was the only friend she had and now she too has turned into a Rasheeda! The presence of Bay Ji proved to be a consolation. Amin’s sudden paralysis changed a lot of things in Shano’s life; the nikkah did not take place and Humaira managed to convince her that the only way her father was going to get better was if she never got married to Khalil. I must say that Sanya Shamshad has handled this character with great maturity, I am sure many other viewers like me went from loving Humaira to hating her in no time!

Someone once said “selfish people live the longest!”, that is so true for Rasheeda. All this time Rasheeda was the one who was blackmailing everyone by saying that if things don’t go her way she will end her life but Amin turned out to be Rasheeda’s next victim. People like Rasheeda might let the hatred and grudge they feel for others kill them for inside but they will never do anything to harm themselves physically for anyone at all. Rasheeda loves herself too much to let anything happen to her but people like Amin are entirely different.

ST

Amin could not bear the burden of knowing that his wife never loved him and that she still wanted to be with the man she was engaged to so many years back. Spending so many years with Amin and having his children has changed nothing, Rasheeda is the still the teenager who got engaged to Abdur Rehman. Abdur Rehman is an obsession for Rasheeda, having him in her life will serve not one but many purposes. Rasheeda will finally be able to get back at her sister for “stealing” her fiancé. Rasheeda sees herself as the victim, she fails to see that she was also having an affair with her sister’s husband which was the reason why her marriage failed in the first place. The way Rasheeda made the most of Amin’s condition was beyond disgusting. Abdur Rehman kept on giving Rasheeda the reality check she needed to get over whatever happened in the past but Rasheeda’s reply to him clearly indicated that she didn’t feel anything for Amin and she was more than willing to start a new life! Rasheeda fails to see that Abdur Rehman has “moved on” and he has a happy life with Inayat. The way Rasheeda openly keeps on making references to her affair with her brother-in-law shows that she is not ashamed of her past at all and she has learned nothing from it.

Apart from the flawless acting by all the actors, amazing chemistry between the leads and scenes that are beautifully shot the best aspect of Sadqay Tumhare has been that no matter what changes take place in the characters and the tracks one thing is constant – Shano and Khalil’s love for each other. Shano and Khalil’s feelings for each other never changed not even for a little while even when the circumstances were completely against them. There have never been any misunderstandings between these two because the way they trust each other is exemplary.

Will Rasheeda every pay for everything that she has done to people who loved her? She hurt her sister who never harmed her in any way, even when she found out that she was having an affair with her husband she quietly sent her away. Amin loved Rasheeda all these years but he did not even got her sympathy in return. Rasheeda cannot beat to see her own daughter happy. Will she be able to win over Abdur Rehman or create a misunderstanding between Inayat and Abdur Rehman? What is going to be the end of Shano and Khalil’s love story?

Overall, this was another emotional episode of Sadqay Tumhare that made me look forward to more.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

One word for Dayar-e-Dil Promo_ Amazing!

Replacing Sadqay Tumharay soon, upcoming show Dayar-e-Dil’s, promo has amazed the audience. The 42-second long promo contains everything the audience wanted to see. Firstly, the  locations from Skardu that have been beautifully captured with their essence. The camerawork is plausible.

Shoaib Akhtar Makes Fun Of Pakistani Players And PCB Chairman In An Indian Show

0

It is very unfortunate to witness Shoaib Akhtar not only laughing at the jokes about Pakistani cricket team members which Harbajan Singh continuously told in an Indian show but what is even more unfortunate is that after a while we see Shoaib Akhtar making fun of his team members also. Harbajan Singh made fun of Pakistani cricket team members’ English and also their style. Shoaib could not stop laughing at his jokes. Only once he told him to cut some jokes about Indian team members too but no one paid attention to him when he said that. Later on as you can see in this video Shoaib enjoyed making fun of his team members and also the chairman of PCB. He even said that the PCB chairman was mad.

When Shoaib met a very tall Indian model on the show he said that she was so tall that he felt like he was talking to Allah which is also a very inappropriate thing to say.

People in Pakistan are not happy with Shoaib for this irresponsible behaviour. He made Indians laugh at his own team without even thinking that he was representing his own country there.

Sharmila Farooqui’s Baraat Pictures

We already posted pictures of Sharmila Farooqui’s Mayon and Mehndi. Sharmila Farooqui is not one of those brides who do not enjoy their wedding day because they are too shy to do that. Sharmila Farooqui enjoyed all the functions of her wedding to the maximum by participating in everything herself rather than just sitting back and watching everyone else enjoy.

Khuda Dekh Raha Hai – Episode 03!

Ohkay so, it was a very interesting episode of Khuda Dekh Raha Hai because the story moved forward swiftly while it stirred curiosity simultaneously. We got some more insight into our characters & I absolutely love how they’re revealing the cards for now. The episode was based on to-the-point, short & a lot of scenes which made the pace, perfect.

So, Junaid actually loves Zoya a lot & that’s a done deal because he is ready to leave everything aside just to be with Zoya. He is ready to become someone she wants him to be. Junaid is very good at what he does & he is passionate about music too but deep down he really thinks all this isn’t worth it in comparison to the peace & happiness he feels when he is with Zoya. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation Junaid & his friend had because they both were right in their own way. Junaid really feels Zoya is all he ever wanted but his friend thinks that Junaid is only being impractical & emotional. His friend understands the potential Junaid has & he believes that Junaid’s passion will take him to places because people love him which is why he thinks Zoya’s only an obstacle in Junaid’s success. For now, Junaid really can’t see anything else because he wants to prove his love to Zoya but I really want to see for how long will it last because once the novelty will wear off, I really feel Junaid might regret his decision of leaving his career for his love-life.

They took us a on a ride through Khalida’s character. We got to see a little more shades of her in which she really seemed meagre in comparison to what she poses to be. Khalida really sees herself as someone who has a command over what she does & that is why she thinks she has a right to decide things for people but she is just like any other regular human being who has no control over their desire & end up committing sins. As per what she portrays, Khalida should be a very humble & easy-going person, she should be someone who knows the art of forgiving but in reality she is rigid, stubborn, inconsiderate & judgmental. She really thinks Zoya is better than Sanam because she wears a dupatta & when asked about the issues she had with Sanam, she only responded in a way which showed that she was judging Sanam for quite petty issues which didn’t suit the woman of her stature; considering how religious she is.

The scene in which a girl comes to cuss at Khalida was very intense & interesting. Certainly what the girl said was a truth & it perfectly pictured the hell that must’ve broken loose in her & the groom’s household. They both loved each other & decided to get married but their dream turned into a nightmare only because of Khalida. The frustration & agitation of the girl was portrayed aptly because no matter what Khalida says, she really doesn’t understand that it took only one statement of hers to ruin someone’s life & she really is incapable of seeing the intensity of such decisions. Undoubtedly that incident forced Khalida to do some thinking & she spent some restless nights but what emerged as her one of the reasons of her worry was shocking. Khalida clearly has some baggage that she is trying to hide using her piety as a facade or she is trying to earn some forgiveness because she might have gone against her mother’s orders. It is pretty evident that Khalida allowed some worldly desires to rule her for a moment when she was young & now she is in a deep regret, maybe that’s why she never really had a relationship based on respect with her husband.

I like Akhtar’s character. He tries to knock him sense into his wife every chance he gets but sadly he knows he isn’t dealing with such a person who would take his word seriously. Khalida is quite opinionated & believes she is right but it was good to see that she was shaken after what the girl said to her & maybe that’s why she agreed to Moeez’s engagement with Sanam because she doesn’t want anything to happen to her family & her children.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode. Seems like Imran Aslam has also made an entry as Sanam’s brother Adnan. I am sure things won’t be easy & smooth for Zoya because seeing how pushy & dominating Sanam is, she will definitely try to talk Zoya into marrying Adnan as it’s obvious that his first choice for a life partner would be Zoya. I am eagerly waiting for the next episode, please share your say about Khuda Dekh Raha Hai as well.

Cheers,

Ishq Parast- Episode 3

And that was one pleasant and enjoyable episode of IshqParast. I like this show for the fact that when it starts, you just have to sit back and enjoy it because it doesn’t involve much heavy-duty developments- at least that’s how things are for the time being, baqi ka, you never know :P. There’s just one thing- while watching tonight’s episode, I had to ask myself over and over again: kia larkiyon kay rishtay waqai aisay hotay hain?

I am really enjoying Dua and Hamza’s track. The bond these two share is sweet and cute and I look forward to watching their scenes. Hamza finally flies to Islamabad but he doesn’t have a very good feeling about his decision, probably owing to the fact that while he was just a kid, his father left the country and never returned so that explains why he believes in the ‘out of sight, out of mind’ scenario. ”Jaisay hi do logon k beech faasla ajata hai, teesray ki jagah khudbakhud banjati hai.” I liked the way Dua didn’t allow her emotions to take over during the pre-departure time because had she done that, Hamza would have wavered from his decision to go to Islamabad. And the way she broke down after he left was sweet and relate-able too. I enjoyed Hamza’s friend, Asad’s scenes because it’s actually refreshing to see a friend who’s loyal to his ‘jigar’ in the true sense LOL :P

ip1

Turns out that Hamza’s departure was actually very unlucky for the duo because Zohaib’s proposal has marked its entry and Dua’s mother is pretty happy with the whole package. Umm, I think these two tracks could’ve entwined in a tad bit realistic manner because call it my lack of exposure to the rishta maamlaat or what, I haven’t really seen parents welcoming a bunch a people who just spotted their daughter in a shopping mall. Pasha (that’s exactly what we’ll be calling Dua’s father) kind of under-reacted when he saw this bin bulayi rishta brigade because given his aggressive nature, I was expecting him to have some doubts about the whole shopping mall scene and a man like him would have thought of something fishy going on between Zohaib & Dua but thankfully, he didn’t and to be honest, his approach towards this proposal makes a lot more sense that that of Dua’s mother. Also, I don’t get why Zohaib’s Khala was so okay with the idea of asking for Dua’s hand just like that and it was only Zohaib who could sense kay their position was very awkward! By the way, Armeena looked stunning when she entered the room and the change in Syed Jibran’s facial expressions & body language was commendable, haha!

12

About Arsala’s character, I guess we have no other option but to ignore her occasional OTT-ness. In contrast to the first two episodes, I have to admit that her scenes were a lot more enjoyable & lighthearted in tonight’s episode and Arij Fatyma looks ravishing. Jibran and Arij share great chemistry and the teary-eyed moment the two shared was well-directed.

The circumstances Dua finds herself have ‘been there seen that’ written all over them because we have witnessed it loads of times in our plays how the leading lady is in love with someone else but this picture perfect proposal swoops in and she finds herself trapped between her walid muhtarram ki naak par betha ghussa and the love she has for her aashiq. Dua’s mother is very much satisfied with Zohaib’s proposal and that’s when Dua decides to spill the news about her relationship with Hamza. Dua chooses not to reveal all the facts to Hamza because he is plain impulsive and when he loses his temper, he’s a force to reckon with!

I am actually thinking of writing a letter to Waseem Abbas, just to share a little something about: 101 reasons why anger can be disastrous for a) your personal health b) the mental health of those around you! Seriously, some of the taunting dialogues today could’ve easily been excluded and please do sympathize with me- I have tolerated him all the way through Main Bushra too! :'(

What are your thoughts on tonight’s episode? Are you enjoying this play?

Maya Khan’s Fans Make Her Cry

0

Maya Khan has been missing from the television screens for a long time now. After the controversies that were a part of her career few years back she still made her way back to the television screen but right now Maya Khan says that she has been busy with personal life so she might not be seen on TV screens soon.

2

Sanam Jung who hosts HUM TV’s Morning Show “Jago Pakistan Jago” invited Maya Khan to her show. The reaction from Maya Khan’s fans was very moving. All her old fans called in the show. Fans said that they had really been missing Maya Khan so much that now that when they saw her in this show they could not hold their tears back. Maya Khan also got emotional. She had tears in her eyes every time her fans said something emotional. Maya’s fans said that they wanted to see her doing something on television very soon.

1

Maya Khan is a very energetic host with a good sense of humor. Even in Sanam Jung’s show she made her audience and fans laugh. Watch the video of how emotional Maya Khan’s fans got here and what was her response:

Alvida – Episode 4

This was another fast-paced and very well-directed episode of Alvida. The story is moving forward in a very convincing manner till now therefore I am finding it very easy to connect to all the happenings. If the story continues to unfold with this momentum then Alvida could be one of the most engaging dramas of the season. All the tracks are being covered intelligently without adding unnecessary details.

Farisa and Khala Jaan managed to brew up a storm just like they were expected to. Even Haya’s father decided to stand up to his brother and wanted his daughter back in his house until Haadi reminded him that he was not in a position to “own” Haya like that. The start to Haadi’s married life has not been ideal in any way. Haadi and Aroosa have been unable to enjoy any quality time together because Haadi was too worried about Haya to think about anything else. While Aroosa understands what Haadi might be going through but there are times when she wonders if Haadi made a hasty decision. The scene in which Aroosa finds the recording in Haya’s room was executed impressively. Haadi’s reaction, the way he openly asks Aroosa about her feelings and the manner in which she gives him an honest reply made me see the spark between these two which I have been missing till now. One reason for that could also be that Haya is no longer in the house and there were no scenes of Haya and Haadi together! Aroosa is very level-headed but she is not like those holier-than-thou dimwitted characters we see on screen which is definitely refreshing. Haadi is a mature person who wanted a companion who could be a pillar of support for him and one who would be at the same level as him. He clearly wanted a sensible friend in his wife more than anything else. One thing that stood out for me today was that when it comes to Haya, Haadi does not share much with Aroosa.

alvida

Haya’s relationship with her Taya and the way he covers up for her was really sweet. Haadi figured out what was going on immediately which was also a pleasant surprise! If this was any other play Haadi would have worried sick for Haya for the next two episodes or so! Haadi shared the news with Maryam which was another short but very touching scene in this episode. Apart from Farisa all the other family members that Haya is surrounded with are her well-wishers which is also a positive sign. Saim knows just how wicked Farisa is and he does not feel the need to make her feel good about what she does. He continuously keeps on holding her accountable for her actions in his own way but Farisa never takes anything he says seriosly.

alvida1

Haya left the house so that she could be away from Haadi but she knows only too well that this is not going to be easy. All the interactions between Haya, Kokab and Faiez were shown in a way that I immediately warmed up to both these characters. Although Kokab and Faiez both gave very positive vibes in the beginning but Faiez apparently has other plans! The scene in which Faiez asks Haya to serve her lunch was also very well-written and directed. This is how we should be shown these things. That scene was subtle but the viewers got the hint immediately.

Overall this was a very engaging episode which gave me absolutely nothing to complain about. All the actors are doing complete justice to their characters but Sanam Jung is definitely the star of the show. She has improved a lot and I can see that she will be going a long way. Imran Abbas and Shahzad Kashmiri make a wonderful team, Shahzad Kashmiri brings out the best in Imran Abbas. I must applaud the director for doing a commendable job till now; every single scene is very well-thought-out and until now Samira Fazal has not given me anything to complain about either. Alvida definitely has a lot going for it.

alvida2

The preview of the next episode was startling, I really don’t want to see more sick-minded men on screen but I guess we won’t have to put up with Faiez for long because Haya is in touch with his Taya so she can go back any time! I hate to sound paranoid but I want Haya to be this intelligent throughout the play, don’t turn into Rameen please!

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Zidd – Episode 11!

Ohkay so, I don’t know why but even though this episode was good, it didn’t offer much & was just so slow that it tested my patience once again. That has been the case with most of the episodes of this drama; they do try to give you something but may be due to the direction or lack of depth in a script, they really don’t strike a chord like they should.

I just don’t understand one thing, why is it that the women in this drama don’t really know how to be happy? Saman has been in this never-ending pain that she really ticks me off. She wanted independence & she didn’t want to compromise so now when she is getting to live a life on her conditions, what’s making her sad? Then there’s Rukhi, who fought hard with her father for the sake of her happiness; her ‘David’ & now when she has got him, she’s sad. I just don’t understand the point that the writer here is trying to prove? She is eventually going to tell us that both these girls had to give up on their ‘zidd’ in order to find happiness, which actually is a good message but may be the path that the writer has opted for in order to reach to the message is really bizarre because most of the time in fact all the time, all the characters look so clueless & the whole ‘zidd’ issue seems very much forced which gives a message that they could’ve done well without it too but then they couldn’t because that’s what they were focusing on, sounds confusing right? To be honest, this is exactly how this drama & the characters come across; confused & confusing!

I really expected better from Rukhi. I thought she’d be on top of the world after getting married to David but then that just didn’t happen & now seems like Qasim’s phoola hua muh is taking a toll on her & David’s relation. David is trying hard to make her happy & like a good husband, he is doing everything he can to support & encourage her but seems like ever since she has gotten married to David, Rukhi only has one topic to talk about & that is Qasim. The point is, being his daughter she definitely would’ve known that Qasim won’t forgive her so easily, so either she should’ve strengthen herself or she should’ve expected him to react this way. Rukhi actually came across as a very carefree person who knew how to mend things & situations, so why it is that Qasim’s temporary vexation is causing her so much trouble? She knew he didn’t jump with joy when she told him about David, so when she could ignore him & go against his wishes to marry him, she should now just be normal with his attitude as well & that reminds me about how repetitive her scenes, conversations & dialogues were because she hasn’t spoken about anything else at all.

So, Zainab told Saman about what her marriage was like which goes to show that Omar wasn’t at fault & it was Zainab who ruined everything that they both had. The way Zainab described her marriage was enough to know that they both had a very good relation but it was Zainab who didn’t want all that, she hated seeing how stagnant her life had become so in a quest for an adventure, she decided to get divorced but she is still exploiting Omar & he is so shareef that he is allowing that to happen after knowing Zainab in & out. He still financially helps her & doesn’t seem to question her. I kind of understood Omar this time around a bit better because he never got married to ‘mentally stable’ & ‘normal’ women so maybe that’s why he seems so immune & comfortably numb after how Saman has left him.

I just can’t seem to tolerate Saman & her painful expressions. What she wants out of life? No one knows? What she’s trying to achieve? No one knows? What makes her sad? No one knows? What’s the point she is trying to prove? No one knows. Well, the only thing that’s left for Saman is to go back to Omar because now she has learnt pretty much everything about his past & now there will come a time when she will realize that he wasn’t the one who was wrong & she will go back to him. I really didn’t understand her reaction after she learned the truth about who Zainab was married to? She says she doesn’t love Omar so why did she seem so lost after Rukhi’s phone call?

I don’t know why but this episode was a hit & a miss too. Development in the story was fine but the scenes seemed so stagnant & repetitive. The only good thing about this episode was the locations that they chose to shoot the scenes. Another amusing thing about this drama is that all these ladies are only seen roaming around the streets carrying their handbags & I must say, all of them really have a bad choice because all the handbags that they’ve flashed in this drama are hideous. Anyways, share your thoughts about this episode please.

Chup Raho – Episode 27

Rameen Rameen Rameen…..there is no hope for you!! Yes! Rameen’s faith in Allah might be very inspiring for some but what happened to using your own wisdom to choose what is best for you? God helps them who help themselves and I am not sure if Rameen did anything to help herself until now except shouting at few people every now and then. On the contrary she is her own biggest enemy! Which is really sad because I wanted to see Rameen evolve into a hero…to save herself and many others like her in whichever way she could but Rameen instead needs a hero – which would be any man at all even if it is Azar. Rameen is not only living with her rapist out of her own free will but as it turns out she has absolutely no issues sitting down with him and having conversations like nothing ever happened. Not only this she trusts him as well and what was even more shocking was watching Rameen plead Numair’s case in front of Manal. How naive can you be?? Rameen’s character is a complete failure. Our main protagonist has failed to set an example of any sort at all for any other unfortunate girl like her out there who might be watching this play. The play does not give hope to the victims out there other than this that eventually a prince charming will come and rescue them.

Numair is convinced that Rameen’s presence in his house alone can ensure a happy ending for his daughter which is another development which is outrageous. I do not expect someone like Numair to do anything out of love for anyone but we all know that he is a very “smart” man and someone like him should be able to realize that setting Rameen free will put an end to all his troubles, lying to Rameen and giving her false hopes will only land him into more trouble. I am saying this because what we saw today clearly indicated that Numair is only doing all this for Naila’s well-being and he has no ulterior motives for making Rameen stay in his house.

I personally know women who have been in abusive relationships. Such women usually shy away from commitment and it takes them a very long time to trust any man at all. Shiraz has provided Rameen the feeling of security which she needed but has Numair done anything to prove that he has truly changed? I hope that Manal decides to speak up in the next episode and Numair either ends up in jail or in the mental asylum where he belongs. It is very upsetting how “casually” rape has been dealt with in this drama. Everyone who knows about it including Shiraz, who is Rameen’s well-wisher has swept the issue under the carpet as if an apology changes everything! Not once has he mentioned that Numair could harm Rameen again and no one has ever asked Rameen to file a case against Numair because rape is a crime right?

I am glad that this episode really was the second last episode. We have watched the past 10 episodes or so in the hope that Numair will finally pay for his mistakes but now no punishment seems big enough for what he has done. We were also hoping that Rameen will grow into a strong person who can make a difference but that is not going to happen because a woman’s “happy ending” is always with a man and a few kids even if they are not her own!
