Pakistani dramas manage to hold the interest of the viewers even though most of them are spoiled for choice nowadays. With the growth of the Pakistani television industry, there have been certain changes in the way the dramas are made and for how long they stay on the air. While the increase in the number of channels and production houses has given people more dramas to be entertained with, the downside is that there is more competition as well. There was a time when Indian dramas were notorious because they were usually on air for a long period of time and Pakistani dramas were loved by even the viewers from across the border because they ended before reaching the 20 episodes mark. All that changed when the producers in Pakistan realized that they can also earn more money by stretching and dragging the dramas, especially those which have a massive fan following.
Nowadays, even the best Pakistani dramas are dragged therefore if a drama ends without dragging; it comes as a pleasant surprise to the viewers. So, although, dragging the dramas is a norm, some drama makers managed to drag dramas without losing track altogether. There were many other dramas that started off as entertaining and engaging but they completely went off track and were ruined due to dragging. The plot clearly did not have enough going for it and most of these dramas were dragged by making use of the OST, using flashback scenes, and even introducing new tracks when the drama should have actually ended at that point. One of the biggest reasons why these entertaining Pakistani dramas were ruined due to dragging was that these dramas were getting the TRPs and people were hooked to them. Once they were dragged most of the viewers who loved these shows, started criticizing them and were no longer interested in watching them.
Here is a list of those watchable dramas of 2021 that were dragged unnecessarily:
The list is in Alphabetical order.
Azmaish
Writer: Samina Aijaz
Director: Fajar Raza
Producer: Big Bang Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Kinza Hashmi, Yashma Gill, Fahad Sheikh, Laila Wasti, Shahood Alvi, Rashid Farooqi, Rehan Nazim and others.
No one would’ve thought that this drama would end up living up to its name. Yes, that is true, drama serial Azmaish stayed true to its title and ended up becoming an Azmaish for the viewers who tuned to it. It was quite obvious that when the drama picked up the success and became popular, the producers decided to not only air the double episodes but turn it into a soap opera with it airing almost the entire week. That is when the story stopped making any sense and the episodes of episodes ended up being filled with scenes and situations of supporting characters.
When the drama began, it did seem promising where it showed the story of a girl struggling in such a household where she was unwanted and deprived of her basic rights. The character of Shiza also caught a lot of attention which was played convincingly by Yashma Gill, however, it remained an unfulfilled wish of the audience to see the issues of Shiza being attended to and resolved. It was frustrating to see her loving father being so blind to all the negativity and toxicity that he never really understood how he should treat his daughter and help her find the light that was missing from her life. Shiza continued to bring one misery after another and just when she got exposed, her father conveniently turned a blind eye, instead of helping her come to terms with her problems. Amish definitely got a lot of fame and success but the purpose of the story got lost the moment they decided to stretch it by adding unnecessary scenes of Nimra’s biological father played by Rashid Farooqi and Basit’s brother and his wife.
Dunk
Writer: Mohsin Ali
Director: Badar Mehmood
Producer: Big Bang Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Nauman Ejaz, Bilal Abbas Khan, Sana Javed, Azekah Daniel, Fahad Sheikh, Shahood Alvi, Laila Wasti, Saife Hassan, Salma Hassan, Yasra Rizvi, and others.
Drama serial Dunk had everything to become one of the memorable dramas of this year. Even before it began, Dunk got surrounded with a lot of controversies because the audience was not too happy with the fact that the producer of the show Fahad Mustafa wanted to highlight the abuse faced by men in society. He stated that he wanted these stories to be heard too which sparked a lot of debate about it. Nonetheless, it brought a lot of attention to Dunk, and considering the ensemble cast that was a part of this project, viewers actually decided to give this drama a fair chance, only to be disappointed as it progressed.
Drama serial Dunk did start on a high note with the story being different and top-notch performances, however, it did not meet the expectations because the story stopped making any progress and was pretty much in the loop the whole time. Dunk was stagnant and right after the death of Professor Humayun, it was just the same pattern that was being followed with Amal torturing Haider and Haider facing the brunt of it silently. The only saving grace of Dunk was Bilal Abbas Khan and Sana Javed’s acting. The fact that the audience also got to see a fresh pair of Bilal Abbas Khan and Azekah Daniel was also a plus point. This drama was met with the same treatment as Cheekh, where the story was completely one-sided and suddenly everything wrapped up last minute. The ending where Haider decided to take things in his hand in order to punish Amal was also uncalled for. The makers of the drama serial Dunk did come up with a good storyline but it got lost because of execution. There was a phase in the drama where in every single episode, there used to be just one meaningful dialogue with the rest of it covered with flashbacks, passing shots of the characters as well as over usage of OST. Dunk was a perfect example of good drama tackled poorly and dragged unnecessarily!
Fitoor
Writer: Zanjabeel Asim Shah
Director: Siraj ul Haque
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo Entertainment
Cast: Faysal Qureshi, Hiba Bukhari, Wahaj Ali, Kiran Haq, Ismat Zaidi, Mizna Waqas, Kamran Jeelani and others.
Drama serial Fitoor had all the potential to become one of the best dramas of this year if they had made a few changes. Unfortunately, they went the typical Geo-TV-route therefore they ruined the drama with their own hands. Fitoor promised a memorable fresh on-screen couple but things turned sour amongst them, therefore they ended up being remembered for all the wrong reasons. The first thing that actually ruined the drama-watching experience was the slow pace and slowest storytelling. There were practically so many episodes where apart from a scene or two, they had nothing to show and relied heavily on the flashbacks.
When the drama began, it was definitely interesting to see a girl like Dilnasheen trying her best to make the most of what her life had to offer but it turned out to be a typical ‘sazishi’ drama with her oh-so-perfect husband ending up buying everything that was sold to him against his wife in the name of ‘ghairat’ and ‘izzat’. As much as the writer tried to show Dilnasheen being wrong, it was hard to see Haider as the victim too. The most unfair part of the story was seeing Dilnasheen literally losing everything whereas Naimal, the one who transpired against her ended up going back to her husband who now had nothing but love to offer to his wife. Haider was presented as a victim who deserved nothing but love and respect from his wife but he came across as a weak man who could not take a stand for his wife and his judgment was still clouded by his past and the feelings he used to have for his cousin. The execution of Fitoor was frustrating to say the least with characters just not saying what they needed to. Another most bizarre aspect of this story was Dilnasheen’s family and their blatant hatred towards her as if she was not their own flesh and blood. Hiba Bukhari and Faysal Qureshi played their respective parts well but sadly, the overall product was so messed up that it just ruined what otherwise would’ve been one of the best projects of their careers!
Mohlat
Writer: Samira Fazal
Director: Saima Waseem
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo
Cast: Bushra Ansari, Asma Abbas, Sami Khan, Kinza Hashmi, Komal Aziz Khan, Tanveer Jamal, Sabeena Farooq, Javeria Abbasi, Aadi, Usama Khan, Daniyal Afzal, Saife Hassan, Nida Mumtaz, Sharif Baloch, Nazia, and others.
Drama serial Mohlat had a typical storyline but it had enough going for it to be watchable. It was fast-paced and even engaging in the beginning. The characterizations were solid enough to keep the viewers engaged despite the typicality that is usually used by writers to entice the viewers. There was a certain element of unpredictability as well which made Mohlat one of the better dramas that aired on Geo this year. The performances and the execution added to the overall entertainment value of the drama as well. Samira Fazal definitely knows the art of enticing the viewers but unfortunately, 7th Sky Entertainment excels at dragging every single drama to a point that there is more of the OST in the drama at a given time than the story itself! Just like most of the other dramas on this list, this one too lost its appeal completely after it crossed the 20 episodes mark because the story got repetitive and the ending was as typical as it could possibly be!
Mohlat is the kind of drama that can easily be enjoyed if the viewers choose to watch it online and are ready for it to be stretched to a point that you won’t even find yourself looking forward to the ending!
Pehli Si Mohabbat
Writer: Faiza Iftikhar
Director: Anjum Shehzad
Producer: IDream Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Sheheryar Munawar, Maya Ali, Uzma Hassan, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, Rabia Butt, Shabbir Jan, Saba Faisal, Paras Masroor, Nausheen Shah, and others.
Pehli Si Mohabbat was perhaps the only drama this year, produced by IDream Entertainment that provided quality and meaningful entertainment for many weeks. Through this drama, the writer Faiza Iftikhar skillfully added social messages to an entertaining drama. Pehli Si Mohabbat’s promos suggested it was going to be an intense love story but it turned out to be much more than just that. This was the first time that Sheheryar Munawar and Maya Ali were going to be seen together in a television drama. Both of them had also taken a long break from television therefore Pehli Si Mohabbat was also their comeback drama serial. The leading actors and the larger-than-life promos played a vital role in enticing the viewers but after a few weeks, it was the well-written and meaningful script that became the main attraction for the viewers. Pehli Si Mohabbat had some of the best-supporting characters we have seen in dramas lately and it was a social drama that highlighted the importance of consent in a manner that was anything but preachy. It questioned the widely accepted concept of arranged marriages. The effective and well-integrated screenplay kept the viewers entertained and looking forward to more. Some of the scenes of this drama were so intense that they truly leave a lasting impression. Even though the supporting characters were most often shown breaking the stereotypes, Aslam and Rakhshi’s story remained the center of the story for some reason or the other throughout.
However, even with so much going for it, Pehli Si Mohabbat was one of the most watchable dramas this year that was dragged beyond imagination! Even the most loyal viewers who were invested in the story ended up giving up on the play and were only waiting for the drama to end so that they could binge-watch it online. It was definitely the kind of drama that could have easily been the best drama of 2021 if it was not stretched in the middle and especially towards the ending.
Wafa Be Mol
Writer: Nuzhat Suman
Director: Meer Sikandar
Producer: Momina Duraid Productions
Channel: HUM
Cast: Ali Abbas, Komal Meer, Sukynah Khan, Arez Ahmed, Zain Afzal, Abul Hassan, Hina Javed, Nimra Shahid, Fazila Qazi, Kaiser Khan Nizamani, Behroz Sabzwari, Saife Hassan, Zainab Qayoom (ZQ), Shehzeen Rahat and Others.
Wafa Be Mol is currently on air and this drama can be safely termed as “Nand” of 2021! Although the story is run-of-the-mill, a stellar cast, fast-paced 20 plus episodes, and twists and turns that are perfect for a commercial hit have made the drama popular as well as interesting. The drama kept the viewers involved for many weeks. Also, the fact that this drama aired 5 days a week definitely made a huge difference. Behroze Sabzwari’s character and performance have been the center of attention and appreciation for playing a character unlike any other so far. Shaheer’s character in the drama is a nice break and offers variety. He is the perfect personification of a good male lead and makes up for the toxicity of the other male lead Azar. This character is definitely one of the best ones played by Arez Ahmed. Even Zainab Qayoom is amusing in a negative role. Hina Javed’s character is another refreshing addition to the drama.
Even though Wafa Be Mol still continues to be somewhat engaging, it is being stretched so much that if it does not end any time soon, it will be another case of a watchable drama going completely off track. Also, Hania’s undying love for her good-for-nothing husband is annoying, to say the least! The way Komal Meer has translated this character on screen makes it bearable but it is definitely not the most impressive character in the drama. We really hope that Wafa Be Mol is wrapped up in a few episodes.

After the first two matches of World Cup T20, our team players have become the heroes of the nation. Our team remained unbeatable against both India and New Zealand. The victory was celebrated all over the country. Pakistan vs New Zealand match was held in the historic Shahraj Stadium. The stadium has witnessed many victories of Pakistan.
The crowd in yesterday’s match was crazy. The most important factor about the crowd was the presence of the wives of our cricketers who were also there to support them. In the crowd, our “Bhabies” including Sania Mirza (Shoaib Malik’s wife), Samiyah Khan (Hassan Ali’s wife), Nazia Hafeez (Mohammad Hafeez’s wife), and Sannia Ashfaq (Imad Waseem’s wife) were spotted cheering their husbands during the match.
Here we have garnered a few clicks of the wives of our cricketers from Sharjah stadium. Let’s have a look:
Right after the historic Pakistan vs New Zealand match, when the whole country was busy celebrating the triumph a strange incident took place on national television. Dr. Nauman Niaz who hosts a show on PTV Sports insulted Shoaib Akhtar on live television. Shoaib Akhtar rather than getting into any fight or argument on television resigned from PTV at the spot and walked away with dignity.
The incident enthralled the audience. People couldn’t understand the unethical behavior of Dr. Nauman Niaz. Shoaib Akhtar is receiving complete support from his fans and followers. #ShoaibAkhtar is the top trend of Twitter. Shoaib also issued a video in which he talked about the rude behavior of Dr. Nauman Niaz. Just like common people our celebrities also came forward in support of Shoaib Akhtar. Muneeb Butt, Adnan Siddiqui, Ali Zafar, Dawar Mehmood, Waqar Zaka, Mubasher Luqman, and sports journalist Sikandar Bakht supported Shoaib Akhtar.
Strongly condemn Nauman Nijaz humiliating @shoaib100mph on national tv. He is an international star who is revered world over. Nauman can’t go around insulting guests on his show if he doesn’t agree with their opinion. #iamwithshoaibakhtar
Really applaud the grace shown by @shoaib100mph. He handled the insult heaped on him with so much maturity and patience. Anyone else would have probably lost his cool on air but this guy maintained his dignity. Signs of a good upbringing #sheerclasspic.twitter.com/BHQVO7boZW
We must learn to respect our national heroes & each other generally. We are entitled to our opinions but the same can be expressed politely in a more cultured fashion with the right choice of words to avoid hurting others’ feelings. @shoaib100mph you’re a legend. #shoaibakhterpic.twitter.com/M4oZBXPfC6
Generally speaking, in today’s world, the golden values of mutual respect, compassion, humility, empathy and the will to listen to each other’s point of view patiently are being replaced by hasty judgments, crude expression, nasty use of language and disrespect. V c it every day. https://t.co/5Ycb7yAAKK
Very sorry to see the clip of Nauman Niaz insulting our national hero @shoaib100mph on PTV. Shoaib is a true hero and will always be. I cant believe Dr Nauman acted this way with an International celebrity in such a rude manner. Unbelievable

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir and ex-Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh were involved in a heated exchange on Twitter on Tuesday when the Indian spinner accused the pacer of “disgracing this beautiful game.”
The two shared eight tweets between them in their harsh exchange of words. It all started when Mohammad Amir tagged Harbhajan Singh in a tweet and asked how he was dealing with the loss after Pakistan’s historic 10-wickets win over arch-rivals India in the T20 World Cup Super 12 Stage opener.
hello everyone woh pochna yeah tha @harbhajan_singh paa ji ne TV to ni tora apna koi ni hota hai end of the day its a game of cricket 😊.
The duo’s war of words revolved around 2010 spot-fixing saga, involving Amir, Pakistan’s win over India in the ongoing T20 World Cup and former all-rounder Shahid Afridi’s sixes against Harbhajan. Harbhajan, who has earlier been involved in social media banters with former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar, responded by uploading a video clip of him hitting a six against Amir to win the match for India in Asia Cup 2010.
To which the Pakistani pacer replied by sharing a video clip of a Test match between India and Pakistan when Shahid Afridi hit four sixes off Harbhajan. This tweet by Amir angered Harbhajan, who then replied by sharing an unfortunate incident from the Lord’s 2010 Test between Pakistan and England where Amir was found guilty of spot-fixing.
https://t.co/tZGLtwBKCa me busy tha @harbhajan_singh apki bowling dekh raha tha test jab LaLA ne apko 4 bowls pe 4 sixes mare thay but cricket hai lag sakte but test cricket me 😅😅😅😅thora ziada ho gia tha
Lords mai no ball kaise ho gya tha ?? Kitna liya kisne diya ? Test cricket hai no ball kaise ho sakta hai ? Shame on u and ur other supporters for disgracing this beautiful game https://t.co/nbv6SWMvQl
And then Amir replied with another tweet by sharing a funny video clip from a Bollywood movie. The war of words just not ended here, it was continued with more tweets.
Bare hi dheet ho talking about my past wouldn't change the fact that tumko 3 din pehle moun ki khani pari. and how about your illegal bowling action mate ab nikal or humko WC win karta dekh. walk over tu nhi mila jao Park me walk karo u'll feel better @harbhajan_singhhttps://t.co/i1dCh7I28c
Former Pakistan fast bowler and cricket analyst Shoaib Akhtar resigned from PTV after things turned unpleasant between him and host Nauman Niaz on the popular show Game on Hai on Tuesday. As Shoaib Akhtar was going through some cricket trivia — during which he credited the Pakistan Super League’s Lahore Qalandars team for discovering Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf — the show’s host, Nauman Niaz, seemed to take offense and snapped back at Shoaib.
Dr Nauman Niaz and Shoaib Akhtar had a harsh exchange of words during live PTV transmission. pic.twitter.com/nE0OhhtjIm
“You’re being a little rude and I don’t want to say this: but if you’re being over smart, you can go. I am saying this on air,” Niaz told a dumbstruck Shoaib, cutting him short and moving to the next guest for their comment. It wasn’t clear what rubbed Niaz the wrong way, and it seemed Shoaib himself was caught off guard. As the tension in the room heightened following the interruption, Niaz called for a commercial break.
and seniors and millions watching. I tried to save everyone from embarrassment by saying I was pulling dr nomans leg with this mutual understanding that dr noman will also politely apologise and we will move on with the show ,which he refused to do. Then I had no other choice .
Several clips from the segment have been doing the rounds on social media, with a number of Shoaib’s supporters expressing disappointment and anger towards Nauman Niaz for “demeaning a legendary cricketer” on live television.
Very sorry to see the clip of Nauman Niaz insulting our national hero @shoaib100mph on PTV. Shoaib is a true hero and will always be. I cant believe Dr Nauman acted this way with an International celebrity in such a rude manner. Unbelievable
PTV is run by public taxes and we the public cannot tolerate someone to be fed on our taxes who doesn't know how to respect legendary players of this country. So being a taxpayer I demand govt to immediately take action against Nauman Niaz for disrespecting Shoaib Akhtar.

In the show, Waseem Abbas shared his opinion about the newcomers working in the field. He Said, “The newcomers working right now in the industry are so respectful and keen to learn. They always ask things they should learn from us and are exactly how we were at the time of the beginning of our career and exactly behave with the seniors like we used to do.”
He added, “Many seniors who say newcomers are not like us and they are disrespectful these are just complexes and its totally wrong. There’s a lot of talent in hour industry we just need to polish them a bit”.

He further added, “After a while, I worked as an assistant in theater, and then veteran actor Irfan Khoosat gave me a chance on stage. I then worked so hard and got a chance into television after so much struggle”.

Tonight’s episode of Parizaad focused more on Bubbly reuniting with her family in the first half and Parizaad putting his life on the line yet again for someone else. The kind and sensitive side of Parizaad’s personality was always apparent but as the story is progressing forward it seems as if he lives only to please others. As a viewer who is completely in love with this character, I feel that Parizaad does not consider himself a priority! The meaningful and well-written dialogues always manage to make Parizaad an absolute treat to watch. While Ahmed Ali Akbar always impresses, tonight Saboor Aly and Noman Ijaz were beyond amazing. Saboor’s expressions when she tries to toughen up were outstanding.
The amazing camera work definitely adds to the impact different scenes have since the director makes sure that all the expressions are captured. Noman Ijaz is exceptional as Behroze Karim; a man who does not show all his cards and always surprises. Even though the story is not going in the direction I imagined, Parizaad’s script and its execution set it apart from the crowd. The performances also make all the difference. I feel for Parizaad, understand his need to please, and find myself rooting for him.
Putting Others First
Parizaad set out on a journey to get acceptance and hopefully love. Initially, his main purpose was to earn money and when this journey started there were times when I felt that he might do something against his nature or principles for monetary gains. However, one thing is well established by now, Parizaad’s basic nature will remain the same no matter what! He has not been able to compromise on his principles at all; in fact, he has not even tried. As someone who always followed his heart, Parizaad continues to do just that. Perhaps that is the reason why he has met many people along the way who value relationships more than financial gains. Even though we were never told or shown how and why Behroze Karim started trusting him so much, it seems as if he made the right decision by not giving up on him.
Tonight’s episode opened with Parizaad setting out on a journey to find Bubbly’s parents. The reunion and the conversations were written beautifully. The writer highlighted the gender identity crisis and the resulting issues in the previous episode as well; in this episode, he did a splendid job by letting the viewers hear all the possible perspectives. This conversation highlighted Bubbly and his parents’ challenges in such a way that I was completely in awe. A father’s apology, a mother’s regret but most of all a family’s acceptance of a child they always loved but did not have the courage to accept. This was such a heart-warming development tonight and even though this did not affect Parizaad’s journey directly, it highlighted such an important social issue in the most impactful manner.
The Investigation
Badar Munir managed to do exactly what she had promised and this track was also taken forward intelligently while keeping viewers at the edge of their seats. When Badar Munir announced that she had the arrest warrants, the viewers were just surprised as her when Behroze calmly presented the bail orders! Even though earlier it seemed as if he really did not care about the consequences! Parizaad entered right at the time when Badar was there, Behroze’s remarks made me laugh! He really did not want him there. The preview of the next episode suggested that Parizaad has a plan and he will do something that will change the course of this particular track. I am waiting to find out what that is going to be!
Final Remarks
Tonight’s episode of Parizaad was all about self-sacrifice, love, and loyalty. The emotional element of the drama continues to be on point. This is one of those few dramas in which the close-ups are used intelligently throughout. The close-up of Guru ji crying when Bubbly went away with her family was the best tonight. Parizaad has an interesting feel to it, overall. I was not too keen on watching the investigation get so much screen time but tonight I enjoyed that particular part of the episode as well. It gave this episode a thriller kind of a feel. I am eagerly looking forward to the upcoming episode.

He further said, “I’m playing DSP Nasir and the most challenging thing about this character was that I already knew that it is an airing drama and a successful story, nobody is going to become hero in it , I just have to add up my good performance to an already well executed show where all the actors were already doing well. It was a tough script. The main challenge was that actors did remarkable work, I had to match their pace”.
“Secondly, it had to deal with a tough situation involving the house hold issues which were also directed towards society at the same time and the character had to interact with the family as well, as a corps , I was acting as intermediate person, another challenge was that it was grey character, so I had to keep it real, non filmy and had to add a little humor in it, which I tried”, Added Adeel.

Every year while we get to watch some outstanding drama serials, there are also those which are simply not up to the mark! There are some dramas that are stretched, others which might have some shortcomings and then there are those which disappoint on so many different levels that they can be easily termed as the worst! Surprisingly enough, every year, many leading actors are part of such dramas. Their presence is sometimes the main reason why people start and continue watching these dramas in the hope that they will eventually deliver. However, these dramas do not only lack meaningful content but at times the performances are also so unimpressive that these actors leave the viewers in complete shock!
In the year 2021, there were plenty of Pakistani dramas which simply failed to entertain and proved to be a waste of time. Some of these dramas got the ratings as well but even then we believe that they qualify to be on this list. We all know that many dramas that do not provide quality entertainment manage to garner ratings every year. The popularity of a drama, therefore, is completely secondary, content comes first. Most of the writers who penned down the scripts for these dramas either relied on clichés or did not have enough substance to write a script for so many episodes.
Here is a list of the worst Pakistani dramas of 2021:
The List is in Alphabetical order.
Amanat
Writer: Rukhsana Nigar
Director: Shahid Shafaat
Producers: Six Sigma Plus Productions & Next Level Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Urwa Hocane, Imran Abbas, Saboor Aly, Haroon Shahid, Srha Asghar, Salman Saeed, Shehryar Zaidi, Saba Hameed, Zainab Qayyum, Gohar Rasheed, Asad Siddiqui, Saima Siddiqui
Drama serial Amanat has some of the biggest names attached to it and it comes from two of the most well-known production houses. Yet, right from the start, it has been the perfect combination of badly etched-out characters and a done-to-death storyline with the most unconvincing story developments we have seen in dramas this year. Although Amanat has only been airing for a few weeks, it has disaster written all over it already! It is almost as if Imran Abbas has vowed to choose all such scripts which bank heavily on star power and typical stories. He plays the flawed and foolish hero like a pro now! His make-up in the drama is another reason why it is difficult to sit through each episode of the drama.
After making such wise choices in the recent past, Urwa Hocane decided to choose the role of a bechari with no personality and tons of filters! The focus on ‘beauty’ in Amanat is overwhelming, to say the least. Amanat has nothing to do with reality or even logic; it is like a remake of Thora Sa Haq with Urwa playing Ayeza Khan’s role! Imran Abbas choosing to play yet another loser hero role is the biggest disappointment. Most of the characters in Amanat are annoying and the visuals do not make up for the lack of an original and wholesome storyline. The fact that this was one of the most awaited drama serials this year makes it an even bigger disappointment. Very often, Pakistani writers make a mockery of the institution of marriage and this drama is yet another instance when the writers used the same ghissa pitta formula to get ratings! We understand the fact that production houses cannot always come up with novel ideas but such big producers should understand that the public expects meaningful entertainment from them if nothing out of the box or grand.
Be Adab was one such drama which showed that the writer had a vision and wanted to convey it to the viewers – mostly related to holding onto the family relations and ties but sadly, the director and the producers had a very different approach to it and it just didn’t work out. The final product was dull, mellow, depressing, and boring. The highlight of this drama was the relationship shown between the characters of Sania Saeed and Rehan Sheikh but other than that, there was nothing much to it.
As the drama progressed and the biological children stepped in, things not only took the turn for the worse, the drama entered a new level of worst as well. For a story that already dealt with such a serious and grim subject, to add more to it with such an execution did no favors to the drama as well as the viewers. Be Adab definitely had potential in the story but the overall execution definitely turned it into a flop, landing it into one of the worst Pakistani dramas of 2021.
Dour
Writer: Saji Gul
Director: Mazhar Moin
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo
Cast: Sania Saeed, Azfar Rehman, Hina Altaf, Ali Abbas, Adla Khan, Hania Ahmed, Iffat Omer, Harris Waheed, Saleem Mairaj, Nayyar Ejaz, Fazila Qazi, and others.
This was another drama we were looking forward to watching since Saji Gul often comes up with something new and often powerful. However, although the script isn’t disappointing overall, the main premise of the story has been relegated to the background. Also, like most of the dramas produced by 7th Sky Entertainment, the treatment given to this drama makes it one of the most pointless dramas on air at the moment. The script revolves around a rich businesswoman who is controlling and clearly has some personality disorder. But just like many other Pakistani dramas, the main content of the show revolves around marriages, exploitation of the weak, and twisted character. Azfar Rehman’s character lacks depth but it gets so much screen time, it is definitely not the kind of negative character that keeps your interest alive. Even Sania Saeed’s star power does not save the day since her get-up and portrayal both appear to be more fake than real.
The performances by all the actors make it impossible for the viewers to actually feel for any one of them. Even brilliant actors such as Sania Saeed, Ali Abbas, Iffat Omer, and even Harris Waheed fall short multiple times. Even after all these years of acting in dramas, Hina Altaf still manages to give the most mediocre performances in every other project. The whole approach is overdramatic, the script lacks depth, performances fail to impress, and the story lack flow or purpose.
Ishq Hai
Writer: Rehana Aftab
Director: Aabis Raza
Producer: Big Bang Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Danish Taimoor, Minal Khan, Sajjad Paul, Azekah Daniel, Saba Faisal, Babar Ali, Hammad Shoaib, Hammad Farooqi, Mahenur Haide and others.
Ishq Hai was a recipe for disaster which showed forced marriage in a glorified manner. This was the kind of project the producers must’ve asked the writer and the director to come up with only to generate ratings. There is no denying the fact that the pairing of Danish Taimoor and Minal Khan was not only new but did seem exciting but that went down the drain the moment the two confessed ‘I love you’ to each other in cheesy sign language. It was also no fun seeing every single person around Shahzeb and Isra played by Danish and Minal plotting against them. The plotting and scheming didn’t even stop after their marriage and the entire drama was dedicated to all the ‘sazishain’ devised by their ill-wishers.
There was absolutely nothing new to the drama and it was frustrating to see Shahzeb being such a dimwit where he just could not trust the girl he loved. The writer tried her best to show some redeeming factors as the drama approached its end but sadly, the damage was irreparable. The execution of Ishq Hai was bad with poor lighting and camera work. It added so much age to both Minal Khan and Danish Taimoor where they both did not look at their best like they usually do in their dramas. Ishq Hai also happens to have a record of not one but two plane crashes, how convenient!
Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3
Writer: Hashim Nadeem
Director: Syed Wajahat Hussain
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo Entertainment
Cast: Iqra Aziz, Feroze Khan, Mirza Zain Baig, Junaid Khan, Sunita Marshal, Tooba Siddique, Sohail Sameer, Rubina Ashraf, Hina Bayat, Waseem Abbas, Asma Abbas, Noor ul Hassan and others.
We’re pretty sure seeing the name of Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 will shock quite a lot of readers but there is no other way to put it. Hashim Nadeem has given some of the most memorable stories to Pakistani drama buffs but he felt short in Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3. The writer still gets credit and acknowledgment for trying to come up with yet another story that had an element of spirituality to it but sadly, it got lost in the execution and under the heavyweight of big-budget and magnanimous camera angles. Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 is a beautifully shot drama that has amazing camera work, angles, and aerial shots to offer. However, when it comes to characters, the story, the essence, the soulfulness – there is absolutely none. There is no depth or layers in the characters whatsoever. It is amusing that the director put the entire focus on how the side characters were getting mesmerized by the spell of Farhad, but when it comes to Farhad, the viewers are still wondering what’s so special about him.
The drama is ending this week and it is unfortunate that even at this stage of the story the viewers have not been able to see Farhad’s love towards his Creator. He is still very much focused on Mahi and everyone around him is very much focused on him. The most absurd factor about this entire story is how a gali mohallay ka larka has been glorified in this drama and put on such a pedestal which is unrealistic and unbelievable. Usually, in real life, guys like Farhad often get a lot of beating by the cousins and brothers of the girl they are bothering but it is unfortunate that in the writer’s mind, he is someone special who deserves to be loved and revered. Iqra Aziz and Feroze Khan did their best to salvage this drama but their characters have been so underwhelming that they just could not impress!
Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi
Writer: Ali Moeen & Rehana Aftab
Director: Syed Ramish Rizvi
Producer: IDream Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Mikaal Zulfiqar, Anmol Baloch, Mashal Khan, Sajida Sayed, Shaheen Khan, Ramsha Salahuddin, Alyy Khan, Ayesha Gul, Ayesha Toor, Nayyar Ijaz, Shazia Goher, Aidah Sheikh, Nazli Nasr, and others.
Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi was every greedy kaam waali massi’s dream come true for 30 plus weeks! It was also one of those dramas that got the ratings in 2021 because controversy sells! The story revolved around the main female protagonist Meera, who was a highly qualified and intelligent woman until she found out about her maid’s daughter’s affair with her husband. This was yet another drama in which a nikkah was turned into a joke given the circumstances in which Meera’s husband ended up marrying the massi!! We have watched many Pakistani dramas showing how greedy women break marriages but this was definitely one-of-a-kind since the leading man had a pea-sized brain which made it difficult for him to make even the most basic decisions wisely! Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi banked heavily on controversies such as extra-marital affairs shown openly and then on the becharapan of a woman who could have easily walked out of this marriage!
For 50 plus weeks, the absurdities continued, and then there was a rushed ending which finally showed Meera leaving her good-for-nothing husband and the massi paying for her wrongdoings. However, this ending did not make up for all the forced toxicity which was used to garner viewership and was void of all logic. Mikaal Zulfiqar yet again played a role similar to the one he played in Ruswai and Khasara! It seems as if he is just as comfortable playing such roles as Imran Abbas is. Mashal Khan cried endlessly in the drama and her hairpiece stood out like a sore thumb. Anmol Baloch’s performance was mediocre but the producers got what they were aiming for – ratings of course!
Mere Apne
Writer: Qurat ul Ain & Dilawar Khan
Director: Mohsin Mirza & Tehseen Khan
Producer: iDream Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Ali Abbas, Waseem Abbas, Hajra Yamin, Zoya Nasir, Zainab Shabbir, Agha Mustafa Hassan and others.
A typical, formula, rating generator but it wouldn’t have cost them much if they had at least executed it better. This disaster of a drama happens to be written and directed by two people, which definitely reminds us of the proverb ‘too many cooks spoiling the broth. Mere Apne’s story is based on the concept of ‘vatta satta’, where one set of parents get to mistreat their daughter-in-law only because they feel they got the ticket to do so. The situations in Mere Apne are not poorly laid out but so frustrating and half-baked that it makes you wonder about the limited mentality of the writers. Hajra Yamin is a strong and confident young girl, she proved her caliber in a drama like Ehd e Wafa, therefore to see her settling for a project like Mere Apne is shocking, to say the least.
The drama is currently going through its second phase with a change of actor that played the role of the father. Ali Abbas’s character was also made to exit the story which made it obvious that he must’ve been starting a different project, therefore, couldn’t continue shooting for Mere Apne. It is amusing to see that the producers do not let go of a drama that already doesn’t have much to offer or contribute to in the name of entertainment.
Mohabbat Dagh Ki Soorat
Writer: Saira Raza
Director: Zeeshan Ahmed
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo
Cast: Neelum Muneer, Sami Khan, Syed Jibran, Kinza Malik, Sunita Marshal, Humera Bano, Arham Akhter, Kamran Jeelani, Sukaina, Tipu Sharif, Alizey Zaidi, and Aarez.
Mohabbat Dagh Ki Soorat is another drama serial that aired only a few weeks back yet it is definitely the kind of drama that deserves to be on this list! Anyone who managed to sit through the first 5 episodes of the drama would be eligible for some kind of an award since this drama literally tests your patience right from the start. The over-stretched scenes and Neelam Munir’s overacting as well as her get-up get on your nerves in the first few episodes. There is nothing spontaneous about any of the scenes in the drama so far, everything looks like it is staged. Neelam’s character itself is written well but the execution is awful! The overall approach of 7th Sky Entertainment, in general, is to over-dramatize every event and to focus on looks even when it isn’t necessary. Sami Khan’s performance has been convincing but he really needs to stop taking up these university student characters because he just doesn’t fit in anymore. Also, Syed Jibran really should experiment more because he is capable of being more versatile!
Mohabbatein Chahatein
Writer: Samira Fazal
Director: Ali Hassan
Producer: Momina Duraid Productions
Channel: HUM
Cast: Junaid Khan, Hira Mani, Armeena Rana Khan, Ibrahim Alavi, Tipu Shareef, Ghana Tahir, Saife Hasan, Sajida Syed, Saad Azhar, Fatima Malik, Noreen Mumtaz, Abdul Muqeet and Others.
Mohabbatein Chahatein was another drama serial of 2021 that was not only clichéd to the core but even questioned the viewers’ intelligence more than once! This was yet another one of those dramas that relied heavily on toxicity, negativity, and unbelievable naivety of the male lead in particular. Much of what we watched in the first half made little sense, Armeena Rana Khan’s character was a twisted and somewhat weird version of the maasi we saw in Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi. The performance itself was more childish and immature than it needed to be! The drama got better in the second half but the sidetracks, in particular, continued to be comical even though they were supposed to be serious. This drama was mainly popular due to Junaid Khan and Hira Mani’s on-screen couple but Junaid Khan’s character especially in the beginning was so goofy that it was unbearable! There were a few dramas that aired on Hum this year that could be termed as the ‘worst’ and this one definitely fell in the category.
Mujhe Vida Kar
Writer: Samra Bukhari
Director: Saqib Zafar
Producer: IDream Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Madiha Imam, Saboor Ali, Muneeb Butt, Saba Hameed, Shabbir Jan, Raza Talish, Ali Rizvi, Haris Waheed, Sajjad Paul, Sana Askari, Afshan Zafar, Paras Masroor, Maria Khan, Tara Mehmood, Mariam Ansari, Shaista Jabeen, Falak Naeem and others.
Mujhe Vida Kar was another 2021 Pakistani drama that had a star cast in leading and supporting roles yet it completely failed to impress. The main male lead Muneeb Butt disappeared from the drama in between and when he reappeared in the show, the explanations given by him coupled with Madiha Imam’s character constant bechargi turned this drama into an unbearable watch! We kept on watching the show hoping that it will eventually lead to something more meaningful but it was not meant to be. Saboor Aly’s character and Ali Rizvi’s performance made this sidetrack even more unbearable than the main track. We wonder why actors such as Madiha Imam, Shabbir Jan, and Saba Hameed in particular chose to be a part of this drama!
Qayamat
Writer: Sarwat Nazeer
Director: Ali Faizan
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo Enterainment
Cast: Ahsan Khan, Neelam Munir, Haroon Shahid, Amar Khan, Saba Faisal, Shabbir Jaan, Noor ul Hassan and others.
The promos of the drama serial Qayamat were quite impressive and enough to create the hype about it. The viewers anticipated Qayamat as they thought they’d be getting to see something interesting but that didn’t turn out to be the cast. It was a typical storyline that revolved around domestic violence and the male lead not realizing his mistakes. Sarwat Nazeer is known for picking up the simplest of storylines and adding a lot of soul and depth to them but sadly, it was the typical and commercial Geo Entertainment effect that took away from what the writer must’ve assumed how her script will be dramatized.
Neelam Munir Khan is better suited in dramas that do not belong to Geo Entertainment because when she is on this channel, she actually loses the plot and tends to overact so much that she ends up making her characters look caricaturish. The character of Ifrah had a lot of potential to become one of the memorable ones but the overall portrayal and execution took that away from her. Ahsan Khan definitely brought in the comic quotient to this drama but his character stopped being funny when he started crossing the line with his wife and then continued committing one mistake after another. The only good thing about this drama was the performance of Shabbir Jaan and Saba Faisal, but apart from that, Qayamat was actually one of the worst dramas of 2021.
Yun To Pyar Hai Bohat
Writer: Aliya Bukhari
Director: Kashif Saleem
Producer: Film Factory
Channel: Hum TV
Cast: Hira Mani, Affan Waheed, Nadia Hussain, Javed Sheikh, Mariam Mirza, Sabeena Syed and others.
After the success of Do Bol and the fame, an on-screen couple of Hira Mani and Affan Waheed got, viewers actually were excited to see them working together again in a drama. However, things turned out to be quite sour right from the beginning because Yun To Pyar Hai Bohat made it very clear in the initial stages that it had lackluster written all over it. Although the character played by Hira Mani did seem promising but a solo strong-willed female character is not enough to save a drama or redeem it. The drama-makers tried to experiment a bit showing Affan Waheed’s character as a musician but there was nothing exciting to both, his character and his personality.
The writer Aliya Bukhari tried to bring in a lot of different aspects such as the separation of Aima’s parents, Zain being presented the opportunity to adopt a child, Aima’s younger sister Nazi getting married to a man thrice her age, and Aima’s success in her career. All of this does look interesting on the paper but the commercial execution is what this story did not require. The writer did try her best but the final result was least impressive, so much so that it was hard to tune to it. Not to forget, the poor and over-acting seen by almost all the actors. Affan Waheed looked like he had just walked in from the sets of either Shehnai or Pardes. He really needs a makeover and needs to hire a stylist. Seeing him in t-shirts paired with checkered shirts in every single drama is not only monotonous but confusing!
This completes the list of worst Pakistani dramas that aired in 2021. Which one of these have you watched and what are your thoughts about these dramas? Are there any more names that you’d like to add to the list? Feel free to share your opinion.
