Aazmaish is an upcoming ARY Digital drama serial starring Kinza Hashmi, Shahood Alvi, Yashma Gill, Laila Wasti and Fahad Sheikh. The drama is directed by Fajr Raza, written by Samina Aijaz and it is produced by Big Bang Production.
The drama features the story of a conventional woman Laila Wasti , who remarries a man, played by Shahood Alvi.
The teasers depict that her decision of remarrying has drawn her daughter Nimra into a troublesome situation, her daughter’s character is played by Kinza Hashmi who is facing the wrath of Shiza, Shiza is the daughter of Nimra’s step father played by Yashma Gill, Shiza tried to conspire against and attacked Nimra various times. The teasers are surely intriguing and thrilling for the public because of the excellent performance and solid storyline .
The totally negative role of Yashma Gill isn’t new for the audience. She has played such characters before. Kinza’s positive role isn’t also new for the audience, she has played such character in many dramas before.

Drama serial Qarar before starting had the huge baggage of expectations as Sanam Jung was appearing in the negative character for the very first time. Drama serial Qarar starred Sanam Jung in the character of Maya who has portrayed as a beautiful girl whose arrogance and selfishness had no limits.
Rabab Hashim played the character of Maya’s orphan cousin Fariha who got an angelic nature. Muneeb Butt as Ammar played the character of Fariha’s husband.
Ali Safina as Salman played the character of Maya’s first husband whereas Mikaal Zulfiqar as Junaid played the character of Maya’s second husband.
Maya in all her arrogance and pride got married to Salman against the will of her family. After getting a divorce from Salman Maya got married to Junaid. In the last episode, Maya faced the consequences of her wrong deeds, as Salman left her again for his wife and she had nowhere to go now. Fariha and Ammar got their issues resolved and Junaid welcomed them wholeheartedly.
We went through some public comments and got to know that people are not much happy with the ending. People are off the view that the ending was incomplete. Some people wrote that they are happy that the drama like Qarar finally ended.

However, there are some factors that can not be ignored while considering their negative impact on drama’s large viewership.

Are Ramzan plays supposed to play the role of rishta aunties?
Ramzan is the holy month of Islam, in which along with ‘ibadat’, the correction of ‘nafs’ is also crucial. Unfortunately, the Ramzan plays revolving around shadi plots are attempting to solve the mystery of who, why, when, where, how the marriage is going to happen, rather than leading the quest of identity and purpose of life. Most of these plays have nothing which can be identified as ‘Ramzan special’ except the timing!, as telecasted in Ramzan. “Chupke Chupke” is one of these Ramzan plays. There is a flood of marriages with a depiction of typical norms and behavior. Despite being a ‘Ramzan special’, there is no criticism, rather acceptance of wrong perceptions and norms, like other Ramzan plays.
Ghar damad – the reversed gender roles
The character “Miskeen” which is essayed by Ali Safina has received criticism for the controversial portrayal of ghar damad. Miskeen, who is married to “Gul”(Mira Sethi), lives in his wife’s house with his in-laws. His duty is to do all house chores and he seems to perform them wholeheartedly. However, the problem arises from the fact that the reversed gender roles are depicted as an element of insult. There are many households where women are supported by their husbands by having a helping hand from them in house chores. However, in this play, the character who is considered as useless can be seen doing the kitchen work and was often ridiculed for this task.
“Khandan ki izzat” must be measured by log kya kahen ga!
Drama serials are one of those elements which can shape the perceptions of the audience and thus influence their actions. It is due to this reason that dramas, with their humor or tragedy, have this long history of fixing society’s ills. However, “Chupke Chupke” seems to ignore this aspect, specifically when it comes to typical ideas as “khandan ki izzat”. These very keywords were frequently used to make ‘Meenu’ (Ayeza Khan) and ‘Fazi'(Osman Khalid Butt) agree for nikkah even against their wills. The idea of “khandan ki izzat” which is happened to be associated with log kya kahen ge rather than moral truths, is unfortunately promoted and approved through these scenes as there is more tension regarding the reputation of families than the future of their children.
Humor has become threatening!
The audience has witnessed a rising trend in our industry of creating humor. It is either created through indecent jokes or by stretching the boundaries of morality, where wit and intelligence is nowhere. “Chupke Chupke” being a Ramzan play has thankfully avoided the indecent jokes but could not help mocking morality and ethics as a source of humor. For instance, Gender biases, in one of the early episodes Bebe(Asma Abbas) scolded Meenu(Ayeza Khan) though in a comical way for asking her inherent share from the property, Moreover, Miskeen(Ali Safina) is also mocked for doing house chores. In addition to this, lies are also portrayed as the savior, even mature characters such as Kaneez (Tara Mahmood) casually speak a lie as if it is not a big deal,”tum apne sach ka jhanda apne paas rakho” And obviously, Meenu(Ayeza Khan) has a series of lies in order to produce humor. Normalization of unethical behaviors and stretching the boundaries of moral values in order to produce laughter is threatening for society as it further leads to acceptance and appraisal of these behaviors.

Tonight’s episode of Pehli Si Mohabbat was engaging throughout and the emotional element of every episode of this drama surpasses everything else. All the actors deserve due credit for breathing life into their respective characters. Even though some of the scenes tonight had a few flaws, overall the great script and the phenomenal performances make up for these minor directorial errors. Tonight, once again, watching all these elders dedicating their energies towards ensuring that their children do not get what they want was unfortunate as well as ironic! I have finally warmed up to Akram’s character and actually find it quite interesting now. The way Aslam’s extended family forgot all their differences and helped his mother out was the most endearing part of this episode. Pehli Si Mohabbat has all the familiar characters; mohallay ka larka who falls hopelessly in love, a girl who cannot stand for herself, a father whose actions are dictated by his ego, a brother trying hard but failing, a sister who loves her brother unconditionally, a mother who will do anything to make sure that things don’t get worse, a loving nani, a mamoo who loves his sister and is standing by her. Aslam and Zainab’s love continues to be the most refreshing part of the drama. Sheheryar Munawar and Uzma Hassan’s on-screen chemistry makes this relationship truly come alive on screen.
Aslam Is Forced To Leave
History is definitely repeating itself because this time around it was Aslam who had to temporarily move away so that his family could save its honor! Sikandar’s family had to do the same when he was beaten up on the day Zainab got married. Even though Aslam’s mother was more than willing to beg Faiz Ullah for him but Akram’s rage turned out to be the final nail in the coffin. It is difficult to tell whether the mother has actually learned from her mistakes or she is being more flexible now because this time around it’s her son who is in love. I am sure we will get the answers in the upcoming episodes. I am glad the viewers got to see Akram’s perspective in this episode. He loves Aslam but more than that he feels obligated to protect him as well. He has always been a father figure for Akram therefore his feelings make perfect sense. Apart from that, his ‘reputation’ has always been a priority for him therefore he cannot even think about taking the route which his mother was willing to take even now. He is looking at things from a completely different perspective therefore protecting Aslam only means making sure that he is not in touch with Rakhshi and away from the neighborhood. Apart from that, taking revenge is an utmost priority for him since he has a bruised ego.
Aslam’s scenes with his cousin were also interesting since he could not even feel her pain and wasn’t even sensitive to her feelings. Even though Aslam knows the pain of loving someone and not being able to have them in his life, he does not feel an ounce of sympathy for someone he has rejected. Like all of Faiza Iftikhar’s other heroes, Aslam is also careless at times and he can be quite selfish as well. I somehow find such characteristics of her leading men attractive since she is not scared to show the ‘human’ element of these characters. The welcome Aslam got from his nano and his mamo’s practical advice were also few of the scenes which were really close to reality.
Zainab Finds Out The Truth
Zainab finally found out what happened to Aslam and the discovery rightly came as a complete shock to her. Zainab’s scenes with Murad once again showed his insecurities and the reasons behind them. He feels unloved and even after all these years is scared of leaving his wife alone with her own family even! Zainab mentioned that Murad left her at her mother’s house only for a day but it seemed as if she was there for a few days. Zainab ultimately met Aslam and her reaction suggested that she has a serious heart condition. Will she be out of the picture soon? Her dialogue about dying tonight suggested just that! She made a promise and we might see her keeping it.
It is heartwarming, the way Aslam opens up to Zainab. She is the only one he shares everything with. Zainab’s initial reaction showed that even after everything that happened in the past and even present, her first thought was how all of this must have impacted her mother. This character has a definite screen presence and her relationship with Aslam makes their bond unforgettable.
Rakhshi and Nargis
Rakhshi continued to cry and suffer because there isn’t much she can do right now! Nargis also wants her to accept everything so that she can do what is expected from her. Tonight, Rakhshi overheard Nargis talking to Farooq and it seems as if she will find out about him soon. Nargis is now talking to Farooq on a regular basis even though she told him that she was not going to stay in touch with him. Nargis’ connection with Farooq makes sense and I am pretty sure there is a reason why he is still in the picture. I am waiting to find out where this track is headed.
Final Remarks
Pehli Si Mohabbat’s solid script and brilliant performances are its main attractions. The characterizations are on point and everything is being taken forward logically! This latest episode wasn’t perfect in terms of execution but the characters and their journeys always have my undivided attention.

You would assume that an early morning walk in the green-capped Margalla Hills in Islamabad would be a pleasurable experience but the reality of the situation is far from serene, as proved by British High Commissioner Christian Turner who went for a walk and came back with two bags full of garbage he collected on the trail.

Ohkay so, these episodes of Shehnai came with a lot of twists & turns which were tackled brilliantly. There is so much happening in each episode that it makes you look forward to what is going to happen & how things will unravel. Shehnai indeed is a brilliant & intelligent piece of writing, because, despite the fun & comic relief it brings, it also reinforces the importance of family values & relationships, which brings warmth to your heart.
The Twists & Turns
Samreen is definitely not coming slow. The fact that Meerab might find someone else other than her is what is a problem for her. It is a done deal that if Meerab wasn’t someone to get manipulated this easily, Samreen would never ever have gotten the edge to do so. She enjoys seeing him in this awkward situation & has absolutely no remorse or shame in feeling that way.
I really wish that the moment Samreen misbehaved with Beena, she had at least told Meerab the truth that he was failing to see. So far Meerab does feel that Bakht has an ulterior motive because of which she doens’t want to call off this wedding but if his sister had told him the truth, it would’ve made things easier for him. Meerab is happy getting manipulated & it isn’t going to change anytime soon unless something major happens & he is served with an eye-opener!
As much as all the negative characters are enjoyable in their own way, I find Tooba quite annoying. She is shown as your typical unhappy pot-stirring Pupho but still, she makes Qafi Bhaiya & Maliha look ideal in front of her. It was obvious that she was never going to approve of Saima & Ahsan’s relationship & because of that she got a lot of screen-time which I didn’t enjoy. Saiqa & Saima had to leave because of the insults they were made to face & sadly, the relationship of Saima & Ahsan came to an end, at least for now. Beenish & Rafay are in hot waters too because Qafi Bhaiyya doesn’t approve of Rafay & they both know they can’t do much about it. Beenish at least has it in her to fight for what she wants but Ahsan was too obedient & humble that he decided the best thing to do was just leave silently without saying a word, which sadly didn’t even get noticed by his parents until Beenish said!
Bakht is very much in love with Meerab but sadly, she is unable to do anything to save her marriage because no matter what happens, Meerab always finds a way to doubt her feelings & misjudge her. It is sad that Meerab is unable to see things for what they are & believes each & everything that Samreen says. This is exactly why I feel a conversation between him & Beena was necessary for him to at least have a change in perspective somewhat.
So, Samreen finally told everything to Absar & Azhar. It was nice to see Beena guiding Bakht through this mess & advising her about what she should do to save this marriage. She failed to acknowledge anything that Samreen said hoping that this mess would settle itself when Meerab would be asked to give an explanation. It was because of this hope she felt like talking to Meerab but unfortunately, the response she got from him was not in her favor.
Exceeding Expectations
The preview of the next episode was quite interesting & it seems a lot more drama is going to unfold in the upcoming episodes where Meerab will eventually take a stand but he will be in the wrong. Shehnai has turned out to be quite engaging & exciting than expected & each & every situation is tackled brilliantly. It is definitely one drama that I look forward to every week. All the characters are so realistic yet refreshing & the family politics have been tackled in a very interesting manner too. Can’t wait to find out what happens next. “We were shooting drama serial ‘Dil Diya Dahleez’, during the shoot we had an accident which broke my 12 bones. I survived there without any medication for 8 hours, with 12 broken bones, bleeding head and chin. My right side was totally fractured. I was moved to Karachi’s hospital from a highway through a truck.”, says Javeria.
Javeria further added that “They took me to Jinnah Hospital but there were no proper facilities so they shifted me to another hospital and after 8 hours I was medicated properly. Faysal Qureshi, Humayun Saeed and every other fellow actor visited me even the guard in our studio also came to meet me.”
“Faysal Qureshi is such a gentleman. My blood group is ‘O-negative’ and as everyone knows that O-negative blood is rare to find and at that moment we needed the blood in emergency. So Faysal Qureshi’s blood group matched to my blood group and he donated his blood. I’m really thankful to him”, added Javeria.
Ohkay so, this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat covered the misunderstanding everyone had which led them to believe that Farhad had passed away. All the actors deserve full points for being true to their craft & for portraying these characters & their emotions with so much clarity & beauty. It was definitely an emotional episode & what breathed life into it were the convincing performances by all the actors.
The News
The policeman called & let Dilawar know that the dead body they had found met an accident but the moment Noora came to break the news to Nazim & Kazim Shah, he added another theory to it saying Farhad was murdered. Nazim Shah’s obsession with his unseen ‘mukhalifeen’ made me roll my eyes. I really feel the director should’ve introduced these scenarios, some of these characters too just to make it all look real & not something that Nazim daydreams about. Anyhow, he tried to use it to his advantage but considering how they have spoken about it time & again that the servants continue to lose their lives in order to protect the men of this household, their reactions seemed a little far stretched. However, the coldness & aloofness which both Noora & Nazim showed while dealing with Farhad’s death clearly showed that everything Dilawar said to him was true. They were definitely not the kind of masters who deserved sincerity, loyalty & the sense of losing one’s life in order to protect them. It also seemed as if Noora also noticed & kind of got agitated with the reaction of Dilawar feeling it was going to be hard taking care of him & controlling his emotions.
Dilawar was deeply affected by the news of Farhad’s death. It was because out of all the people, he was the only one who connected to him on a deeper level & also because he related to the pain Farhad was carrying in his heart. Dilawar knew exactly why Farhad had come to Bhawalpur & what was it that was snatching away his peace, but yes, for it to cost him his life was something Dilawar never imagined & this is why he was shattered.
Apart from Dilawar, Sajal, Fakira, Nisar & even Rida were broken after they found out that Farhad was no more. Sajal & Fakira couldn’t really show it to anyone therefore it was hard for them to make it seem like they were doing alright but deep down they were grieving. Rida has absolutely no idea why Farhad went there, but it seems like she is going to find it in the next episode. It will definitely be interesting to see what her reaction would be.
Mahi did not take this news well, obviously because she is the only person who knows what happened between them & the last things Farhad had heard from Mahi directly. She felt burdened, guilty & she just wasn’t herself anymore. Mahi’s sister-in-law Sahiba does understand what she is going through but she has not witnessed the hurtful things Mahi had said to Farhad, therefore she fails to even understand what Mahi is feeling while recalling her harsh words. It was interesting to note how everything around Mahi was unfolding at a regular pace but she on her own was numb as if something inside her had died.
The reaction of Farhad’s family members was quite emotional too. His brother was right in holding Nisar accountable because they had trusted & sent Farhad away to Bhawalpur. Naheed was emotional but the actress failed to add that depth to her emotions & seemed a bit too stiff while performing those scenes.
Convincing Performances
This episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 was slow but emotional. It is now given that they are going to tackle one situation per episode & that kind of makes this drama a bit too slow for my liking. Anyhow, I am glad that the episode ended with Romana’s entry. Sikandar was definitely keeping a secret & this was the reason why he stalled getting married for this long. I feel they created the vibe nicely but Muzznah Arif should’ve sported Siraki accent instead of such a proper Urdu one because they all happen to be in Multan & not in Karachi. Tooba Siddique’s first look was quite impressive too, she looks stunning & I am glad there is going to another character to explore because so far the ones that have been a part of the initial story haven’t offered much in terms of personality or insight. Full marks to everyone for convincing performances. I am looking forward to the next episode in a hope that they do not prolong it any further & move the story to the next phase, but it seems we’ll have to do with the guilt & grief for a bit long. Tonight’s episode of Raqs-e-Bismil wasn’t as impactful as it should have been considering that Zohra went missing in this one and everyone was worried sick for her. It was a little too fast-paced since so much happened but most of what happened was simply all over the place. There have been way too many coincidences lately and Sheheryar executed this latest ‘business deal’ in the most haphazard manner possible! I had a really difficult time connecting to Zohra’s pain perhaps because her mindset is not making sense to me at all. Even though the writer quite literally spelled everything out for his viewers but sometimes showing is more effective than telling! I know why Zohra was bent on staying with Sheheryar but the reasoning came across as meaningless especially for someone who valued her self-worth so much. Sakina and Esa’s scenes were a step in the other direction but even these scenes were not as impressive as their scenes were in few of the previous episodes. Everyone’s over-reliance on Moosa is getting repetitive as well. I honestly feel that the drama should end now. The fact that the supporting characters have lately been making an appearance only when they are serving some purpose definitely disrupts the flow of the story. It is always a bad idea to make the supporting characters disappear once the story reaches a certain point.
Zohra and Moosa
Tonight’s episode opened with Zohra and Moosa’s meeting but even after the declaration of love, Zohra was bent on making her marriage with Sheheryar work. She was devastated to find out that Sheheryar had divorced her. This divorce was sudden because of the pressure on Sheheryar from his family but it did not explain why he didn’t make sure that Zohra was with Laila when he sent her the divorce papers. The way she was kicked out of the house was forced, to say the least! So Zohra wanted to make this marriage work to prove to the world that someone from her background was capable of being ‘well settled’ outside the walls she was born in. The reason for this could be whatever happened to her mother in the past but considering Sheheryar’s plans for Zohra, it was really difficult for me to connect to her state of mind. She did not call Moosa for help and ended up being hit by Faizee’s car (coincidence!)
All of a sudden Ana Ji is back in the picture and this time around she desperately wanted to know how Zohra was doing. She ended up being yet another person who had to turn to Moosa for help. Although I adore Moosa’s character but the fact that he is the only one everyone turns to for help is getting a bit far-fetched if not forced. Laila’s character continues to be dignified, she is even willing to forgive her good-for-nothing husband but Zara Sheikh’s performance continues to be shaky! Moosa’s dialogues about Ishq were the only dialogues from this episode that truly left an impact.
Sakina and Esa
Sakina asked for Esa’s apology as if what she had done was easily forgivable. She has definitely ‘moved on’ and is willing to start afresh but Esa obviously will need more time. I was expecting their scenes to be more intense but things are back to normal and it seems that very soon Esa will forgive Sakina just as casually as she asked for his forgiveness. The parents were not even shown in the scenes covering the track and I felt that they should have been kept in the picture since they have been such a vital part of this track. Esa’s honesty was likable and the fact that he chose not to be sarcastic was even more so. Other than that, this track is gradually losing its charm which is truly unfortunate since it was one of my favorite tracks.
Final Remarks
This was not the kind of episode that gives you a lot to talk about since even though the story is at a juncture where the viewers should be wondering what will happen next, Zohra’s accident and disappearance wasn’t the best way to keep the viewers interested. Zohra’s choices have been baffling as well! I also feel that Moosa’s relationship with his parents has been relegated to the background to a ridiculous extent. He is being discussed in almost all the conversations they have but he never even thinks about them! Moosa being such a caring and sensitive person shouldn’t be so comfortable being completely disconnected from his family. This episode was rushed and haphazard, there were so many tracks that needed to be shown in more detail. I hope that the story is wrapped up soon since with every passing episode Raqs-e-Bismil is losing its spark!
