Pakistan television and film’s senior actor Rasheed Naz has passed away today at the age of 73.
His daughter in law Madiha Rizvi took the news to her Instagram. She wrote, “إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُون
Our dearest Baba Rashid Naz Has left this world peacefully this morning. Please recite Sureh Fateha for the departed soul 🙏”
Rashid Naz’s funeral prayer was offered at Faqirabad Eidgah at 3 pm. The legendary actor Rashid Naz was born on September 9, 1948 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He showed his acting’s essence in many films and dramas. In 1971, he started his television career as an actor in a Pashto drama. Rasheed Naz has acted in several Pashto, Hindko and Urdu language dramas . His first Urdu drama was ‘Ek Tha Gaon’ which was aired in 1973 on PTV. His first popular play was Namoos. Ohkay so, Sang e Mah is definitely the kind of drama that actually makes you look forward to it. Only 2 episodes have aired so far & I can not even begin to think what they have in store for us. The characters are intriguing & their stories seem to be quite interesting too. At this stage, they have succeeded in raising the questions in my mind as a viewer that what actually is wrong between Hilmand & Marjan, why he doesn’t shy away from showing his resentment to his father?
Jirga’s Decision
Hilmand definitely knows how to change the tide, maybe this is one of the reasons why he feels disconnected from his father because he goes by the rules & regulations, whereas Hilmand, despite being in touch with his emotions is also a logical thinker. The way Hilmand changed the course of Jirga was impressive & showed what is it in him that gives him the edge over everyone else around. Hilmand knew exactly what he was doing, but it also gave him a lot of pleasure knowing that he was outbidding his father in this competition. That entire sequence was done brilliantly because at the end, Marjan also showed that he was thinking two steps ahead of Hilmand & also how experienced he himself was.
I must say the actor playing the role of Sabz Ali as well as his mother played their parts just so well that I actually teared up at their predicament. The way his hands shivered as his mother tried to soothe him was probably my favorite scene of this episode. Sabz Ali definitely loves that girl, therefore he thought after committing Gagh, he will eventually go scot-free but that definitely turned against him, despite the fact that Hilmand tried his best to help!
Gulmeena & Hikmat’s scenes brought much-needed relief throughout the episode. Also, Hikmat’s conversations with his mother are cute too. She obviously doesn’t take him seriously, therefore no matter what Hikmat was going through, she didn’t really think it was something worth paying heed to. Zarsanga did seem a bit out of a touch with reality because as soon as Hikmat mentioned Gulmeena, she should’ve understood what he was trying to imply. On the other hand, Zarghona has proven to be quite far-sighted & also pretty sorted. Her conversation with Hikmat showed exactly what she wants & if possible, how would she like things to proceed. Although at this point Zarghona seems a bit too rigid, it could also be because she knows Marjan & Zarsanga a bit too well, that is why she wants to protect Gulmeena from heartbreak. She knows Marjan & Zarsanga will never come to her place seeking Gulmeena’s proposal for Hikmat, that is why she is trying to prepare Gulmeena for it. Hikmat is adamant that he actually wants to marry Gulmeena but sadly, he too is immature to approach it in a feasible manner.
Powerful Performances
Sang e Mah is definitely going to be one interesting journey to witness. I love how quick-witted all these characters are & how unique they are in their own way. I am also interested to find out why things are bitter between Zarsanga & Zarghona. Zarsanga & Marjan also have a past & the note at which the episode ended with Zarghona talking against Zarsanga’s character goes to show that this might be a bone of contention between the sisters. Some of the scenes always bring in a lot of relief such as Zarghona’s conversation with Badam Gul & also Hilmand’s monologues to which his friends are always there to react. At this point, I can not wait to explore all these characters & kind of have this faith in this team that they are going to bring something absolutely exciting in the upcoming episodes. The preview of the next episode was quite dramatic too, can’t wait for it. All the actors have performed brilliantly but in this episode, the actors playing the characters of Sabz Ali & his mother stole the show for me with their powerful portrayal of such strong emotions. “It was a very difficult time for us, especially for Zara. She went through many breakdowns, hormonals changes and many more. I was quite depressed but I believe that everything happens with Allah’s will, whatever he has written on our fate, we’ll surely get it. You never know, maybe Allah has written something better for us”, added Asad.

Ohkay so, this was yet another enjoyable episode of Sinf e Aahan. It has definitely turned out to be the kind of drama that you can tune to with a guarantee that you are going to have a great time watching. However, it is also the kind of drama that may not give you a lot to discuss because whatever you see can only be enjoyed while watching. Sinf e Aahan has definitely been written with a lot of detailing & perfection, but the way it has been executed is kind of one-dimensional where there is only one focal point in every single episode & then every situation revolves around it.
The Training Begins
In this episode, the girls got a lot more insight into what their life at the PMA was going to be like. It was going to be clockwork & a strict routine that they had to follow. None of them actually seemed happy because first & foremost, they were not being treated as some royalty but as cadets who were there to be trained. In the meanwhile, they all have been warming up to each other but Shaista & Pariwesh have their loyalties sorted, this is why they have not bothered forming a bond with their roommates; Mahjabeen & Rabia. It is also nice to see the sincerity they have towards their friends, it makes them loyal in their own special way.
Sidra is definitely a breath of fresh air & every single time she appears, she lights up the screen because she always has something new to say & a very different outlook on things. Nathmy’s character has not been explored much yet & so far, she just looks like a filler in most of the scenes. However, I am excited to see what her character has to offer & how her story will unfold.
Maj. Osama got introduced to the girls & right from that moment, he knew he had to leave an impression on the girls so that they understood it a bit too well that he meant business. His wife particularly seems cold towards him & there was this strange hesitation between the two, which was slightly touched upon in the promo. Osama definitely seems a bit too invested in what his life is now as an Army officer & what it was like when he was a cadet himself. It seems he doesn’t have a space for anything else in his life; probably not even his own family. Maj. Samia’s backstory was really heart-touching. It was shown beautifully that even those with the toughest facades have to fight personal battles & they do not let any of it deter them from their duty. It wasn’t like Samia’s only job was to be tough on the girls, but it showed that it demanded her full attention, her undivided time & effort, because of which she couldn’t be there for her family when they needed her the most. It was however beautiful to see that she had a supportive family who understood what her job requirements were, that is why the moment she showed up, they continued to put her heart to ease.
Mahjabeen wanted to go back & she wasn’t taking any of this seriously but soon enough, she will be forced to realize the opportunity that has been presented to her & how important it was for her to be committed to it. The homesickness of some of the girls was shown nicely too. It all makes them very real & relatable. The training has just begun & this will pave a way for the girls to find themselves & realize their potential.
All in all, Sinf e Aahan makes a great watch. Something totally different & unique which is a rarity on Pakistani television. It provides quality entertainment & shows the kind of effort it takes to be in the Army. It won’t be wrong to say that Sinf e Aahan has been well written & brilliantly directed drama. All those funny moments, along with the emotional ones establish a very real connection with all the main characters. Definitely looking forward to more episodes. Going by the promo, I do not know how I feel about Osama’s wife’s past. I don’t think her character has been given that much importance, to begin with for me as a viewer to feel the need to find out more about her. I think it will be another way of showing the personal struggles Army officers go through too, just like Samia was faced within this episode.
