Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed singer and actor Ali Zafar as ambassador to the Namal Knowledge City, a centre of academic excellence for the marginalized population residing in remote areas of the country.
“Honoured to be nominated ambassador to the first & biggest knowledge city in Pakistan “Namal Knowledge City” envisioned by the honourable Prime Minister Imran Khan,” informed the celebrity in a tweet from his official handle.
On Saturday, PM Imran performed a ground breaking ceremony of Namal Knowledge City phase 1 in Mianwali.
Addressing the ceremony, he stressed upon availability of affordable and quality higher education opportunities for the talented youth of Pakistan as good education laid the foundation for a tolerant and progressive society.
The prime minister was briefed that after completion of first phase, more than 10,000 students from deprived areas would benefit from the Knowledge City. He also expressed his desire to transform the institute into an internationally renowned center of excellence.

The main inducement that the drama had was Usman Mukhtar (Dr. Haris) who already gave exceptional performance in drama serial Anaa and same was expected from him.
The drama started off with a high note. Anaya portrayed a strong girl with high moral values belonging to a middle class family. Miral and Hasan portrayed siblings belonging to a powerful house hold. Hassan fell head over heels for Anaya after an ugly fight and marries her. Where As Miral Being a controlling spoiled brat made it sole purpose of her life to destroy the life of Anaya.
Dr. Haris played a psychiatrist who fell in love with his patient Miral and these two got married.
Miral kept on poking in life of Hassan taking cover of Hassan’s friend Atif and finally succeeded in her mission proving Anaya a characterless girl in front of Hassan.
Anaya left Hasan without giving any clarifications. She gave birth to a son and started her life as an independent single parent after losing her father.
Miral also decides to end her marriage with Dr. Haris because of her controlling nature as she gets her ex-fiancé back in her life.
In the end, the Evil Miral faces and accident resulting a swift change in her nature. She instantly regrets all her bad deeds. Tells Hassan how she made his life miserable and also went to Aanya’s house to accept all her sins. Dr. Haris also forgives Miral showing her endless love for his wife and hence the drama had a fairy tale ending.
Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gilani performed exceptionally well in drama serial Sabbat and received a lot of critical as well as commercial acclamation. The drama became part of a controversy for showing doctor patient relationship which is wrong in so many ways; but the director tried to overcome this flaw as much as they could. The drama had a typical expected end, both Anaya and Dr. Haris forgave the misdeeds of their better halves heading towards happily ever after!

It did not come as a surprise that Sabaat had a predictable and typical ending. All this time, the writer wanted the story to end happily for Hassan and Anaya but their happiness was completely dependent on Miraal. I found Harris’ love for Miraal more endearing (quite unexpectedly) than Hassan’s casual apology. The writer gave Miraal so much power right till the end that all the other characters lost their meaning altogether. Miraal clearly had a personality disorder yet this aspect of her character was brushed under the carpet. Her negative and controlling behavior was never portrayed as a mental disorder even though she went to a psychiatrist! The way her character took a completely different turn basically went to show that there was no actual reason for Miraal’s negativity and bitterness.
The writer conveniently gave a fairytale-like ending to a story that was meant for a mature and intelligent audience. Even fairytales nowadays are being given a more meaningful treatment by the makers since no one wants to watch stories surrounding black and white characters with quick fixes in the end.
Everything Changed In Minutes
Right till the end, Atif continued to be the ‘messenger’; he was the one who informed Hassan about Miraal’s accident which was really odd. Miraal’s condition suggested that she had been in the hospital for at least a few hours yet somehow Hassan’s parents did not even inform him. Atif had to look for him to break the news. This accident and its aftermath were covered in a rush suggesting that after slowing things down for so many weeks, the writer wanted a jhat pat ending to the drama which was overall quite predictable. Miraal’s punishment started few seconds into the episode and Harris became the ‘hero’ instantly. Miraal had forgotten naani altogether, only to be reminded of her when the accident happened. Given how negative and bitter Miraal was, this sudden change in her despite her situation did not work for me at all.
Someone like Miraal would have taken a lot more time to ‘confess’ to her wrongdoings. The writer chose an easy way to bring about this change instead of relying on more meaningful scenarios to show a gradual change in her. There are in reality so many people like Miraal who never realize that they have been punished no matter how many times they find themselves in situations such as this one. If we consider her personality, her first reaction would have been that of anger and extreme bitterness. Had the writer shown her as someone who was capable of seeing things from another perspective, this sudden change would have made more sense. The writer definitely put plot convenience before logic and used this accident as a means to dramatically change the character which destroyed everyone’s life. So in the end, a change in Miraal changed everything which basically proves that the entire story always revolved around Miraal and all the other tracks were completely dependent on her.
Many of us were expecting Anaya’s track to be more impactful since it was the only character in the last few episodes which had potential. Anaya however went back to being the diligent wife and bahu who was still looking for her in-law’s approval! This track had endless possibilities considering how capable Anaya was but in the end, she chose to forgive rather quickly and lead the life she was leading when she got married initially.
Final Remarks
This ‘overly’ pleasant and fast-paced episode of Sabaat made me wonder if this really was the last episode of the drama which had so much negativity! The writer proved one thing, anything is possible especially in the last episode of a Pakistani drama. This turned out to be yet another drama which showed an evil female lead who kept on making everyone’s life hell for 20 plus weeks and underwent a complete transformation in the end. Mawra Hocane’s performance was remarkable throughout even though there were times when Anaya’s character disappointed. Ameer Gillani gave this character his best; I will be looking forward to his next project. Anaya’s mother’s positive outlook towards life and her bond with her daughter was the best part of an otherwise disappointing drama. There was absolutely no need to kill Anaya’s father, the writers really need to stop doing that! His death did not have any impact on the story and it did not serve any purpose. The writer proved that it is possible to give even the most twisted of situations a last-minute happy ending like nothing bitter ever happened! Even though I loved Mawra and Ameer’s performances, I did not find myself rooting for the couple given the circumstances. Sabaat’s OST was beautifully written, composed and sung, that is definitely worth listening to on repeat. Other than that, I am glad that this journey is over!

Fast-paced, thrilling, and skillfully executed; tonight’s episode of Mushk was a complete package. The writer Imran Ashraf has outdone himself while handling all the tracks by making sure that each one of these tracks is taken forward at the same pace. Aehsun Talish’s skillful direction made tonight’s episode even more thrilling. He kept the suspense alive in every scene and made sure that all the situations were shown convincingly without making them overdramatic. Since Mushk has some of the most heavy-duty dialogues therefore only it was really important that the directors and the actors gave the script the right treatment. Except for Zara Tareen, all the other actors delivered their dialogues effortlessly hence making them effective. Urwa Hocane in particular makes even the most complicated dialogues flow so smoothly because of the way she delivers them. The attention to detail in this episode was quite impressive.
Guddi’s First Triumph
Guddi had done her homework right therefore it did not come as a surprise that she managed to execute her plan. Even though it has been well established by now that Guddi can make the impossible happen once she makes up her mind, even then the way Roshni’s exit from the house was covered kept me intrigued and on the edge right till the end. There was a clear confusion in Roshni’s mind till the last minute. I am sure, I am not the only one who was wondering if Roshni would actually be able to go forward with her plan. Her father’s dialogues were meaningful and just like always Guddi said what was going through the viewer’s mind. At that moment it was highly likely that Roshni could have changed her mind. Guddi made sure that Roshni did not pay heed to what her conscience was telling her.
Once Roshni was out of the house and with the love of her life, she was less concerned about what she had left behind and more eager to get away from the situation she was in. Zulekha did not get the time to look for Roshni just yet since she was too busy covering up. The way Guddi celebrated her triumph was also covered intelligently; she recalled all those times when Zulekha has insulted her and was at peace that she had taken her revenge. This was obviously the first step forward! The screenplay was so engaging since there was no way to be sure whether Guddi will succeed or not. Even now, the viewers are left wondering whether Roshni and Saqib will get away with this or not. Sehar Khan translated Roshni’s confusion and fear remarkably well on screen. Urwa Hocane was convincing as usual, she has been performing exceptionally well throughout.
Poor Adam
I felt for Adam more than ever today since finally, we got to hear what is going through his mind. He is trying to make sense of the situation, trying to understand how he ended up being ‘fooled’ like this. Imran Ashraf and Moomal Sheikh’s performances, the camerawork, and the execution of these scenes made the different emotions these characters were going through come alive exceptionally on screen. For a few seconds, it seemed, Adam was actually happy to see Mehak as his bride. While he was trying to rationalize this situation in his own head, Mehak gave him a bitter reality check not knowing what he was going through. Mehak thinks Adam is a long term friend who is helping her out, she has no idea how he feels about her. Also, she is too occupied with her own problems to think about anyone else. Even though she looked and acted the role, her only concern was her child and his father.
The question Mehak asked Adam and her concern for her child served as a bitter reality check for a man who probably got disconnected from reality for a few seconds. That is when Adam was reminded of his ‘duty’ as a friend and from there on he was more focused on the ‘task’ he was there to perform! This is obviously just the beginning; Adam will be faced with many more challenges in the upcoming episodes since Mehak is relying on him so much.
Shayan’s Escape
Shayan finally managed to escape with the help of Muqaddar Khan’s wife. This was another important development but I was surprised to see him going to the police because surely Muqaddar Khan exercises enough influence to get a clean chit from the police even after everything he has done. It was however good to see the wife getting back at her husband by helping Shayan escape. So, all along she was comfortable with her daughter getting married to Shayan, this was definitely surprising especially given the fact that she loves her daughter so much. But at the same time, her primary motivation for helping Shayan also happened to be her daughter.
Final Remarks
Overall, tonight’s episode had so much going for it and it proved that the story will get more intense and exciting as it progresses forward. I loved the picture quality tonight especially the way the marriage was covered. It seems like Qavi Khan’s character will end up helping Saqib and Roshni for some reason. Zulekha managed to get herself out of a difficult situation with the help of her ‘friend’ but will she be able to figure out who helped Roshni? Will Roshni get married to Saqib and live a happy life? Most importantly, how will Roshni’s move impact Mehak’s life? The dada is already so scared of badnaami, will he push Mehak to marry Adam now that Roshni has eloped? He will entrust Adam with the difficult task of finding Roshni, I am waiting to see how Guddi will react to that since she does not hold back while speaking her mind with Adam. Will the police help Shayan or is this going to be another dead end? A lot of questions and so much to look forward to! I can’t wait to watch the next episode.

Not many people know that actor Usman Mukhtar is passionate about filmmaking. Long before he debuted on TV with his most popular drama serials, ‘Anaa and Sabaat’, he had wanted to get into production, but lack of support from family led him to study journalism.
He didn’t give up, though, while he started acting in amateur theatre plays, he also produced and directed his own short films and music videos, aided by his close friends. Later, he famously starred in ‘Janaan’ (2016) and ‘Parchi’ (2018), both immensely successful feature films, but he’s yet to direct one.
Meanwhile, he has set a new benchmark for aspiring filmmakers in Pakistan, with his new short, titled ‘Bench’, which was recently adjudged the Best Short Film at New York’s 2nd South Shore Film Festival.
The festival was due to begin on July 25, as a regular event, with red-carpet screenings of finalists in local cinemas followed by an awards ceremony, but it was cancelled due to the worsening Covid-19 situation in the US.
‘Bench’s’ storyline is as simple as its title — it deals with a young couple sitting on a bench in a public park and ruminating on why their relationship went wrong — but, Mukhtar says, it has several layers to it. The script is penned by Ali Mudar, “a very dear friend; we think so much alike.” The two-character short has Mukhtar leading the cast alongside noted model and actor Rubya Chaudhry.
Recently, Usman took to Instagram to share another milestone, revealing to fans and followers that the short film has been selected for the Cannes Independent Film Festival.
