Baghi is a much anticipated upcoming drama from Urdu1. It is based on the true story of life and death of the social media star Qandeel Baloch in the hands of her younger brother. The main character Qandeel is being played by the very talented and very versatile Saba Qamar.
We have gotten to know that another main role in the play is one of Qandeel’s younger sister. She is a wannabe like Qandeel herself but doesn’t have the same guts and initiative as yet. So, she intends to follow in her older sister’s footsteps and does all that she can to imitate her so she can also be famous. We will be seeing the very beautiful Nimra Khan in this role.
Nimra has spoken about bagging the character that she was approached by Urdu 1 because she has worked with Saba Qamar earlier and they thought they resemble well enough to play sisters in Baghi. Her mother is a Kashmiri-Punjabi, so the typical village accent required for the drama was not a problem with Nimra.
Talking about the play itself, Nimra told us it does not glorify Qandeel in any way, and if it would, the cast will be speaking up against it. She went on to say that aim is to show that there are ways of eradicating evil from the society without finishing off such people altogether. Nobody knows why people become who they are because we are not privy to their individual circumstances.
“Baghi” is increasing our anticipation with every news, we must say.
After the trailer release of Chain Aye Na, the movie gained many speculations and assumptions about it. Most of them were so negative that the actors had to release defensive statements about it. Seems like the movie is again in the news now before its release.
The film was due to appear in cinemas on the twentieth of this month but now it’s been postponed till the eleventh of August.
The reason for this delay as given by Shehroz Sabzwari is that they could not promote the film properly. As Syed Noor has been on a trip to Bangkok, the team felt that they were not able to hold promotional events and appear on TV shows about it. After a recent appearance in a morning show, they are all set to bring Chain Aye Na to the attention of viewers before its release.
Meera Jee recently hinted on getting married next month in a show and now if the reports are to be believed she will be getting hitched in August to her dream man from USA. Meera didn’t tell the media who her man is because she thinks previously over exposure to media has led to failed attempts of marriage. But the groom is none other than Captain Naveed if reports are to be believed and his family is in Pakistan for the final preparations of the big day.
According to Meera’s father she was nikkahfied to years ago. Whats new is Meera wants to opt for surrogacy to have children. She said in an interview: “I want my fiance’s name to remain a mystery until I’m married. I can assure you is that I will maintain my figure after getting married. I’ll opt for surrogacy just like Shahrukh Khan did.”

It needs a huge amount of sumptuousness and elegance to carry out the cultural values you are blessed with and our Bhabi ji did it so well.
Here, we are talking about none other than the Hyderabadi queen ,Sania Mirza who wore the traditional Hyderabadi dupatta on her historical wedding day and carried it really well. Making her look beautiful in her traditional style, this red dupatta added spark to the Hyderabadi bride and equal credit is given to the bride for handling it perfectly well.
The talented and charming actor of our country, Fawad Khan has caught the attention of many Indian celebrities after working in bollywood movies, ‘Khoobsurat’, ‘Kapoor and Sons’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. Fawad, already a big name in Pakistan, no doubt has also earned many admirers from across the border too.
His co-star of the movie ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ , Ranbir Kapoor, while talking to a local news paper admits that he is also an admirer of Fawad Khan. He also says that his parents also like him. His mother, Neetu, often watches Fawad’s popular TV shows. In addition, he says that it is unfortunate that Fawad had to bear the burnt of political change.
While addressing a newspaper Ranbir Kapoor states:
“I am a big admirer of Fawad as a talent. His role in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil added so much of dignity and so much of an impact. He was kind enough to do it as it was like a guest appearance, it wasn’t a big part. It was unfortunate that due to the political climate Fawad had to bear the brunt. But he is someone who I admire and I also connected to him as a friend. I would love to do a film with him where we can share the screen space for a longer time.”
He further admits:
“I loved his part in Kapoor and Sons. My parents are his fans. My mother is borderline obsessed with Fawad, she has been watching serials like Humsafar.”
It seems like Fawad has gained some Indian celebrity audience also.
Another week, another episode filled with clichés. While watching this episode I was reminded of the real life stories that I have heard from so many of my friends where they told me that ‘Dada dekhne kisi aur ko gaye the, Dadi us larki ki friend thin, wo inhain pasand kar ke aa gaye’, also, ‘Chacha rishte ke liye Chachi ki friend ke ghar gaye the lekin unhain Chachi pasand aa gain thin’. So, this is exactly the case which was presented in this episode of Teri Raza where the girl is pushing the guy for someone else but he is falling in love with her, so let me ask, is this something that is unrealistic, no, but is this story worthy of turning into a drama, I say no to that too!
So, Suhana was on Paa Mmtyaz case & she turned it into her responsibility that she has to find a girl for Paa Mmtyaz. Obviously, family weddings are a perfect excuse for Paa’s to choose girls because they are all dolled up & look absolutely pretty, but the difference was that in this case, both Paa & Suhana were having a conversation with each other, so they were getting to know each other as well & it wasn’t just based on the looks that Paa ended up falling for Suhana. Anyways, Paa showcased how far he can go for Suhana because he ended up buying her a ‘mehanga jora’ in a jiffy which Allah maafi looked quite ‘sasta’. I am sure this ‘mehenga jora’ will help Paa Mmtyaz’s case & he will end up scoring some brownie points in the Istikhara since this is something that actually matters & there has been a lot of focus on how well Paa Mmtyaz has done for himself when it comes to his career.
Hmmm, I am not sure what to say, like pehle to Chain Aye Na ka trailer aur upper se Rameez jaisa character, Shehroz Sabzwari needs some serious career counselling & I suggest that he should sit with Syra at least to discuss his choices, but I don’t think she will help him either so yes, the better idea would be to hire someone who can guide him through & wisely choose projects for him because this phase seems to be like the low in Shehroz’s career (not implying that he had any highs either). So, just because Rameez has confessed his feelings to Suhana he thinks he owns her now. Rameez is your typical batameez ameer maghroor larka who doesn’t have an ounce of maturity in him. The fact that he fought with his father made him so furious that he decided to use Suhana as a punching bag. Chalo, ye to Rameez/Shehroz ki baat thi but to see Suhana/Sanam settling for such kind of treatment only because she is in love was so cringe-worthy. In my last review I remember using the word ‘mature’ for Suhana’s character but she made me question that in just the very 2nd episode of this drama because yes, girls don’t tend to get into the nitty gritty when they are in love but no girl is also so aloof or indifferent to the batameezi that her significant other directs at her either, like may I ask how old is Suhana, 14 or 15?
So, Suhana finally told her mother that she is involved with Rameez & he is serious about her which again was her side of the story. Rameez is planning to go to Canada & he is not really in a mood for commitment, yes even his family is going through some crisis but even then, getting officially committed to Suhana is not his priority at the moment. For the time being he has convinced Suhana that he will be getting his family involved but that is out of question because he hasn’t even spoken to his family about her & about his plans of getting married to Suhana.
As expected, Paa Mmtyaz woke up one fine day & realized that he likes/loves Suhana. The focus on the age difference between him & Suhana was highlighted time & again but then is it really going to change anything? No, because Istikhara Dadi already seems quite impressed with Mmtyaz because he can afford ‘mehanga jora’ & ‘mehanga bracelet’ for Suhana so it already makes him ‘kabil’ enough, as if that’s the only thing that is important for a healthy relationship & nothing else, like a girl’s approval or interest? Yes, I get that, Paa Mmtyaz is an ideal husband material for any girl but just to put him in a good light, the way they decided to showcase Rameez’s bad side was amusing. It is like they are drawing a comparison between two buoyez to show how good & bad each one of them is, but seeing this comparison made me question if I was actually keen on Paa Mmtyaz’s character so much that to see Rameez’s bad side would put my heart to ease that Suhana’s going to go in safe hands? No, not really so this aspect didn’t really matter that too at such an early stage of the drama & also because the characters are so bland & boring that they don’t really spark an interest!
I think the director tried really hard to salvage the boring script & the only actor who tried to help the director was Sanam Baloch but other than that, nothing really is working in this drama. Sanam Baloch acted well, like as much as she could do to convey a plain character like Suhana, she did, but other than that, it won’t be a lie to say that Suhana has nothing to offer to the viewers, so being a fan of Sanam Baloch as an actor it is actually quite painful to see her settling for such a mediocre role & character. Surmed Sultan Khoosat’s acting was better than the previous episode, Shehroz’s hairstyle & T-shirts were better too but the BEST thing about this episode was the Drone Shot of the sea shore! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Teri Raza.
Mahira Khan’s beauty and charm has won her many hearts in Pakistan. She is among the most beautiful Pakistani actresses of today. Recently we got to know that we are not the only ones so besotted by her. Rather, there are people across the globe, and very famous ones at that who are equally smitten by her.
You would not believe who praised her the latest. In a program where he was playing rapid fire during the promotion of his movie Jagga Jasoos, Ranbir Kapoor named Mahira Khan from Pakistan as among the most beautiful actresses along with Katrina Kaif and Shraddha Kapoor from his own land.
We have to hand it to Ranbir Kapoor for being so fair and honest when naming the beauties of the world. He also added Hollywood’s Wonder Woman Gal Gadot in the mix.
Mahira certainly has an ethereal quality to her beauty that is almost magical. Without any cosmetic surgery done to cover her flaws, Mahira manages to capture every eye around her, and with her recent international ventures, one right into the heart of Bollywood, it is no wonder people are remembering how beautiful she is, and Ranbir is certainly no exception.
Another week, another intense episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan. When this drama began, I knew I was in for a ride but I never expected that it will turn into one of those dramas that just pull you in & force you to get emotionally invested in the story & the characters & Alif Allah Aur Insaan has done just exactly that. I find myself waiting for its episodes and I look forward to how the story is going to unfold. The writer, the director & the entire cast deserve a standing ovation for making Alif Allah Aur Insaan such a sucess.
So, Nazneen invited Shahzeb so that she could have a conversation with him but that’s where it all stopped for me because after that I couldn’t really comprehend what was running through Nazneen’s mind. Yes, I know that she is someone who hates to lose & she is someone who can not stand being on the same pedestal as someone else but then again, isn’t she doing the same thing with Shahzeb too? Even though Shahzeb was being honest with Nazneen but the fact that she couldn’t take what she heard was odd. I thought Nazneen will use this against Shahzeb but then just the mention of some other woman who Shahzeb vowed not being emotionally involved with made Nazneen restless, why? If that’s the case then how about putting Shahzeb in her situation & thinking for a second how she is two timing on him with Basit? In this episode especially, I didn’t really get what should be made out of her character because she seemed perfectly alright when Shahzeb was flowering her with all those praises whereas I thought she’d openly tell Shahzeb that she doesn’t want to get married to him. Where I expected that it would be Nazneen who’d come clean in front of Shahzeb, it was Shahzeb who did the honors only to evoke a reaction which he didn’t expect. Does this mean that even though Nazneen is not emotionally invested in this relationship, the mere fact that Shahzeb once crossed paths with random woman disturbed Nazneen to such an extreme? Nazneen most certainly is not entitled to this kind of reaction considering how she herself is cheating on Shahzeb & after this meeting I even felt she cheated on Basit too because she didn’t tell him that she invited Shahzeb for a meeting for no good reason & then gave him an edge where he could go on about how much he loves her? Nazneen is turning out to be a twisted character, like I commend the writer here for adding so many shades to Nazneen where she is not just your typical stubborn spoiled brat, I say that in a sense that her character has been written intelligently but it most certainly is twisted & not someone that I am a fan of!
For the first time I felt for Shahzeb, only because he was being honest but now he will feel guilty for being a bit too honest with a shallow girl like Nazneen. Only because of the love that Shahzeb has for Nazneen, he felt it was his duty to inform her about everything that has happened in his life but now when Nazneen, due to her own selfish reasons will reject him, he will think his honesty cost him the love of his life, whereas it is Nazneen who should be feeling guilty & ashamed, not Shahzeb. The conversation regarding ‘Shaitan’ & ‘Rehman’ that Zaitoon & Shahzeb had was very special, I love the dialogue writer’s way with words, like in every single episode you find these gems that make you smile, so I commend the dialogue writer as well!
Samina rightfully but in her limits tried to explain to her father about Basit & Nazneen’s involvement in each other. Obviously Basit’s father couldn’t fathom the fact that his son could do such a thing that is why he kept on blaming the ladies but just when he saw that even his wife was standing by what their daughter was saying, he was forced to think. Samina was obviously pushed to the limit to tell her father that Nazneen was chasing after Basit which obviously sparked some suspicion in his mind as well & I say the sooner the better, he should know what Basit is upto!
I don’t know why, even though I saw all the shades of Nigar Begum’s personality, I never hated her character, like I couldn’t because where she had this evilness in her, she had this niceness in her as well. I am all for Rani & I feel for her too but I don’t think she was entitled to sign such a verdict for Nigar Begum, that too when she got the ticket to her own freedom. Shammi obviously played a major part in convincing Nigar to let go of Rani & even tried to make her understand that she should go easy on her which to my surprise was something that Nigar not only accepted but followed too but sadly, Rani decided to do what the anger brewed inside her forced her to do. I actually felt a lot for Nigar especially in the last scene where she once again promised to pick up the pieces & move on from another bad phase of her life, like in such a brief moment we were made familiar with the constant failures, big or small that courtesans go through. All Nigar Begum yearned for was some love, affection & a security blanket & she had some dreams which weren’t materialized because of which she unleashed her harsh side but then again, the fact that she actually empathized with Rani & spoke about her dreams showed that she could actually relate to her but didn’t want to come to her level as she wanted to maintain a distance. However, it can’t be forgotten that whatever happened with Nigar was a perfect example of ‘what goes around, comes around’, like she devised a plan for Fizza Bai’s death & then similarly, Rani pushed her towards her death too but then, was Rani right in going to such an extreme? I like how the writer has opened a new dimension & has revealed this new side of Rani, like this new revelation & Rani’s verdict is always going to be open for different interpretations, which is quite intelligent & commendable. I don’t know why but for the first time I see a similarity between Nigar & Rani, they both had dreams, they both chased after their dreams, they both had their own agendas & just how they had a lot of niceness in them, they had/have this evil streak too, which is is absolutely amazing!
I loved this episode & I am so glad that this drama has exceeded my expectations, like I knew it was going to be a good watch but I never knew that it will be so so so soooo good. The writer, the director & all the actors should take a bow for such a successful drama. Needless to say but Ushna Shah & Imran Ashraf both once again outdid themselves in this episode. Just because this is going to be the last episode in which Sana Fakhar will appear, I feel she deserves a special mention for her phenomenal performance as Nigar Begum. I am sure no other actress could’ve carried this character the way she did & the treatment that she gave without taking things a bit too far is praise-worthy. While watching a courtesan Nigar Begum, I never once felt uncomfortable or questioned the director & the actor’s approach towards a character like Nigar, so special thanks to Sana Fakhar for her brilliant performance. Please share your thoughts about this very interesting episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.
Whenever an international event is to make place in our country, we start praying that it goes out smoothly without any incident that could further taint our country’s reputation. The same happens when international stars visit here and lately the latter happens much more than the former. In fact, I can’t even the last time we had an international event in Pakistan. Due to the fear of terrorism, our country has been deemed unfit by various countries and international organizations, to host international events or even for international teams to visit Pakistan.
In these dark times, the football superstar Ronaldinho and the Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs proved to be rays of hope. These two visited our country, participated in a tournament and showed it to the world that Pakistan is a safe country to visit and play.
Of course, all the players were welcomed and provided with tight security, handled by Pakistan Army.
Ronaldinho expressed his gratitude to the Army Chief in the following tweet:
Pakistan Army has once again made us proud. A huge thank you to them for all the efforts they put in to make this event a success from our side too. These heart-felt comments from the star athletes of the world are a tremendous success for our country’s image in the world and they prove that the time for international sports to return back to Pakistan has come.
Actors are known to change their transformations for the roles they play. Not only is an actor’s acting performance important to portray a character to perfection, but appearance too. It’s usual to hear the actors gaining pounds or working out for a six-pack for their roles but the ladies seem to be a bit behind to these body transformation in our Industry. Well…not anymore! We are here to inform you that Mahira Khan, the nazuk si larki, is putting on weight for her role in Muala Jutt 2! We’ve already seen Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi hitting it hard in the gym for their macho looks for the said movie, it was about time for the female cast to put in their share too! The petite actress is trying very hard to gain some pounds: https://twitter.com/TheMahiraKhan/status/884281971861540864?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brandsynario.com%2Fmahira-khan-toughens-maula-jatt-2%2F You would think Mahira informed of this in an interview or on the red carpet but no…she gave it away in an answer to one of her fans on twitter. Have a look at the tweets: https://twitter.com/latchingonto/status/884441826928852998?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brandsynario.com%2Fmahira-khan-toughens-maula-jatt-2%2F https://twitter.com/TheMahiraKhan/status/884590149601865732?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brandsynario.com%2Fmahira-khan-toughens-maula-jatt-2%2F Those who want to gain some weight. Momina Mustehsan is a 23-year-old New York-based, Pakistani song writer and singer. She was co-writer and co-singer to Farhan Saeed’s very popular ‘Pee Jaun’ but shot to relative fame when she sang playback for the band Soch in the Bollywood film Ek Villian, on a song called ‘Awaari’. In addition, her rendition of the song Afreen kept everyone hooked and it wasn’t just because of the Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was in the duet. She has gained so much fame that now there is hardly anyone who hasn’t heard the voice of Momina Mustehsan and fallen in love with it.
Recently, she starred in L’Oréal’s TVC and though her hair looks great, we still are a little disappointed. As above started, there is no doubt that she is an amazing singer with one of the melodious voices of her time, but she isn’t that good when it comes to acting.
Her acting in the TVC seems very mechanical and expressionless. But, I believe that she can improve. We’ve watched our cricket players become excellent models and actors in the past years and acting and cricket seem further from acting and singing!
After watching a few repetitive, painful and staged episodes of Jago Pakistan Jago which were more of a narration of another day in the life of Sanam Jung, we are fully convinced that this show should be renamed “Aik Aur Din Sanam Jung Ke Sath”!! We are not arguing the fact that Sanam Jung has a massive fan following and some of these (more desperate we need to get a life) fans probably wake up every morning to find out whether Sanam Jung slept well at night or not, if Qassam and Sanam had a fight in the past 14 hours or so and whether Sanam struggled to make dinner or was she lucky enough to get dinner from her susral but most of the viewers do not tune into this show to find out the trials and tribulations in the life of the “self-proclaimed” housewife who is clearly not a housewife!
The reason why we are more disappointed in Sanam Jung trying so hard to fit into the role of a typical morning show host is that we expected better from her. She is educated, we also believe she is very intelligent and she is an outgoing young lady with a vibrant personality yet every morning she wakes up to prove to the world that she is just another struggling housewife and mother who cannot cope. By doing so, first of all she is not helping anyone and secondly, she is only promoting a stereotype because most housewives do much more than just looking pretty for their husbands, cooking good food and mulling over trivial matters.
In yesterday’s show Sanam Jung while talking to her other housewife buddies said ” hum jaisi housewives” which was yet another attempt to blend into the crowd (which we are not even sure exists!). It is a common practice for talk show hosts to share some personal stories with their viewers in order to make the viewers connect to them at a more human level but Sanam Jung takes this practice a little too far and while doing so she definitely undermines many of the housewives out there who actually find her daily struggles (real or not) annoying, to say the least.
We often hear Sanam Jung speak about how she wants regular people and her viewers to relate to her but does she really present herself or her life in such a way where regular ladies who come from all walks of life, who belong to different social classes can find it easy to relate to her? Sanam Jung obviously doesn’t really understand the struggles that generally women go through because she lives in a bubble of her own perfect world and believes in turning her non-issues into the issues for her viewers to either sympathize with her or see her as one of them, but most of the times or rather all the time, its a failed attempt because the nominal things that she complains about are things that other women have to deal with almost every single day of their lives. With Sanam Jung it is so obvious that there is a gap between her and her audience and she doesn’t really do much to overcome it.
Sanam Jung very often asks her guests a question and ends up answering it (in detail) herself because obviously Sanam’s experiences carry more value than all of her guests put together. We are certain that many other viewers who tuned into a specific episode of Jago Pakistan Jago in order to learn something new about a certain celebrity guest were terribly disappointed since the host does not allow her guests to speak a lot. Not only this, there have been times when Sanam Jung invited “experts” to the show and ended up giving expert opinions herself and the guests were left wondering what they were supposed to do there!
Yes, everyone wants to know what the hosts who grace their TV screens on a daily basis do and live their life like but Sanam Jung, without a doubt takes self-obsession to a whole new level! For any host, to share personal experiences in order to teach the audience is definitely a must but every time we listen to Sanam, we are left baffled as to what details like having strawberries in her fridge, eating semolina for her daughter, a change in her shoe size after her pregnancy, her husband switching the Air Conditioning on when she is asleep, her maid hunt, her daughter making faces at the sight of food, she being unable to cook would do for the audience? The way Sanam speaks about herself and her life goes to show that she is one of those people who don’t really care if the listener is actually interested to listen to the things that she is saying or not, because if she was mindful of the fact, she would cut down on this practice and make her input in the show a little interesting by not making it all about herself.
Sanam Jung thinks people who watch her shows are unable to see that she can walk the walk, but can’t talk the talk, in a sense that she presents herself as a people’s person, as someone who thinks everyone is the same but does exactly the opposite when it actually comes to the general public, the regular people, yes, the enthusiastic audience of her show, who sadly love her so much that they are unable to see her bizarre behavior towards them. Sanam’s attitude with her audience is always questionable, where she conveniently snubs them, easily shows her displeasure, doesn’t really do much to connect to them on a personal level, making it evident that she only communicates with them because it is the format and the requirement of her show otherwise she would never stop and talk to a random person or hear their story as she is filled with so many stories of herself that she doesn’t have time for anyone else.
Since it is a common practice in Jago Pakistan Jago that the hostess even snubs her guests if she doesn’t agree with what they are saying, so it makes us feel that Sanam should stop inviting people to her show, like there should be no audience, no guests and Jago Pakistan Jago can turn into a One Woman Show where Sanam doesn’t have to deal with people and where she does not have to stay quiet because someone else is speaking. Since Sanam has so many personal stories to share, she can easily run a 2 hour show by talking about herself, her life, her husband, her daughter, her mother, her father and her sisters as this is something that she normally does, so this is our suggestion to the Channel and the Producers of the show. However, the real question is, how many people would really be interested in watching that show! ;)
Fahad Mustafa gave an interview to Images where he claimed that he is the only star in Pakistan who has gained immense popularity without doing any hit Bollywood movie. The statement didn’t go well with Shaan Shahid who is undoubtedly the biggest star in the country.
Shaan commented on Fahad’s statement: “A lot of good actors have never went to India yet they have been quite popular here including Waheed Murad, Shahid, Rahat Kazmi, Usman Peerzada, Umar Shareef, Faisal Rehman, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Bilal Ashraf, Faisal Qureshi, Nouman Ejaz and Danish Taimoor,”
Shaan also praised Fahad on his work and asked him to keep going: “You are doing good work Fahad, keep your head down and focus on your work and let the people say what you are saying. You are the only actor in Pakistan who can do a TV game show and do films together. Keep up the hard work. Films don’t have rating meters. Every Friday is a test.”
Previously Fahad’s has negated Shaan’s statement that over-exposure diminishes stardom.

Sajal Aly has impressed viewers near and far with her brilliant performance in Bollywood’s MOM. The diva is going to adorn your screens once again in the form of drama serial O Rangreza by HumTv.
Bilal Abbas Khan is playing the male lead in the play opposite Sajal Aly. Two teasers have been released of the show so far and both of them are impressive and give quite a lot to look forward to. They are coordinated, colourful and give glimpses into the world of O Rangreza, without revealing too much.
The first teaser shows both hero and heroine in a colour fight with eachother. Their personas are shown beautifully in the trailer; Bilal is mesmerised by Sajal, forgetting that they are in a fight and just holds still in the moment in awe of Sajal’s beauty, while she is vibrating with life, playing with colours and celebrating her success like a girl who has not known much beyond happiness in life till now.
The next teaser shows some clearer dynamics between the duo. It seems as if Bilal Abbas is an orphan and lives with Sajal’s family, while Sajal being the headstrong and pampered daughter of the family enjoys dominating him completely. Somewhere along the lines, this relationship will take a romantic turn and we are eagerly waiting for the drama to see how and when that happens and the aftermath of it all.

Fahad Mustafa is currently one of the biggest stars in the country. People love his game show and his films are becoming super hits one after another. Fahad gave an interview to Images and the actor didn’t hold back on anything. Look what he had to say about anything or everything; from stardom to bollywood he just poured out his heart.
Of course, you do tend to make some very unique wardrobe choices – some would even call them eccentric. You have often credited a brand called Cherry for your clothing. Who is Cherry exactly?
Fahad Mustafa :Cherry is a tailoring brand that I have been going to my whole life. I am probably one of the few TV personalities who believes in paying for my wardrobe and I do so happily because I enjoy devising my wardrobe with Cherry. They just understand what I want. I don’t believe in throwing about names of designer labels just to prove to the world that I am a star. What’s the difference between Cherry and our so-called designers? They all have tailors sitting in their workshops and if they all create well-finished clothes then there’s really no difference.
So you plan out your wardrobe and styling yourself?
Fahad Mustafa:Yes. If I look good, the credit goes to me and if I am a walking disaster it’s my own fault. I was hosting a live show for 30 days and blunders are bound to occur. I still think that I was less of a disaster than certain others.
You did indulge in a lot of layers and your clothes were very fitted…
Fahad Mustafa:It’s a chilled studio so the layers are not a problem. Also, I am thin – if I want to wear fitted clothes, why shouldn’t I?
Your game show may be a huge hit but some of the ‘games’ that you played were extensively criticised. Was it necessary to demean people by rewarding the ones who weighed the most?
Fahad Mustafa:The people who were playing the games didn’t mind so why should the rest of the world? It’s a game show and everything is in good fun. I am probably the only male host who interacts very easily with women in the audience. They hug me, shake hands with me, even high-five me. They trust me, I respect them and we all have a great time together. You should see the excitement on the set during a show – it’s like an India-Pakistan match!
But perhaps you could have used your status as a popular host to elevate your show to certain intellectual standards? Scriptwriter Anwar Maqsood commented that this year’s Ramazan transmissions made him wish that there would be a power shutdown right around show-time!
Fahad Mustafa:It’s easy to criticise. I’d rather entertain than deliver solemn lectures. If Anwar Maqsood is so perturbed by diminishing standards why doesn’t he train others to be like him? I prefer to give messages while laughing along with people rather than by sermonising.
In your show, you often make jibes regarding Aamir Liaquat Hussain, your main competitor in the game-show arena. Why do you indulge in such open rivalry?
Fahad Mustafa: I love Aamir bhai and whatever he does in his show, I still watch it. When I used to host a morning show for the Hum Network three years ago, Aamir bhai would come as a guest to my show on receiving a single call from me. I am a bit hesitant when it comes to discussing religious topics and so I would ask him to chalk out a list of questions for me. I would ask them as is and he would reply. I comment about him frequently on my game show but it is all in good humor and Aamir bhai knows this.
Moving on to cinema, your Na Maloom Afraad 2 releases soon and you’re also going to be starring in the sequel to Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. Both movies are expected to be hits but don’t you tire of playing the same kind of roles over and over again, of the street-smart, poverty-stricken boy-next-door?
Fahad Mustafa:I am like that – why shouldn’t I enjoy playing such roles? They have worked for me so far and besides, I also acted in Mah-e-Meer which was completely different.
It was also a movie that failed at the box office. What prompted you to be part of Mah-e-Meer?
Fahad Mustafa: I think every actor dreams of being part of a movie like Mah-e-Meer. I am Sindhi-speaking and yet I managed to play Meer to an audience that consisted of intellectuals who dissect everything to bits and pleased them to a large extent. It got me critical acclaim and as an actor, that means a lot to me. Of course, I would never produce a movie like Mah-e-Meer and if I ever do, I would keep it restricted to festivals because it certainly didn’t have any mass appeal. The Mah-e-Meer premiere was the only time I reached an event two hours late. I kept circling the cinema wondering if I should go or not.
You seem to have a very good equation with director Nabeel Qureshi who has cast you three times in a row – for Na Maloom Afraad,Actor-In-Law and now, Na Maloom Afraad 2. Why do you think he opts for you and not other young actors?
Fahad Mustafa:Nabeel will cast me in his fourth movie too. It’s because he has seen that if he works hard, I will work just as hard with him. We have done some very expensive shoots together and we have also sat together on roadsides and had discussions.
I don’t believe that I am a great actor but I am very hard-working. I enjoy my work. I also don’t see any point in putting on airs and graces just to prove to my co-workers that I am a huge star. Attitude problems, I believe, are the main reason why many of our actors aren’t able to succeed.
And you say this from your experiences with other actors?
Fahad Mustafa: Yes. There have been so many times when I have visited my productions and the actors working there ask out loud, “Who is he?”
Why do they have to be so petty? I am well-known in my country and besides, I am the one who signs their cheques. Why do they have to feign these pretenses in order to emphasise that they are stars?
There are also so many actors who have huge egos on the basis of their social media followings. Certain makeup artists and salons encourage them to behave like divas and they get lost in a bubble that disconnects them completely from the audience that they have to cater to. They will say that they want to be ‘exclusive’. Why do they want to be exclusive? So that nobody hears them or sees them? Why do they feel so superior towards the masses? They are the ones that have to accept them as stars in order for them to be successful.
Perhaps by being exclusive, these celebrities want to be seen as larger-than-life stars? Shaan Shahid recently commented about you that while you have potential, you are losing your star-power by becoming too mass-centric…
Fahad Mustafa:I think Shaan Bhai’s theory gets negated immediately because despite being seen in a very mass-centric live show, my movies are still hits. TV can be run by network heads and their particular favorites may be preferred there but cinema’s the one medium where an actor becomes successful on the basis of his popularity with the masses.
Now that you have gained a huge fan-base in Pakistan, would you consider expanding it further by acting in Indian cinema?
Fahad Mustafa:I wouldn’t work in India unless I got offered a project that was truly interesting. It’s certainly not my ambition to become a Bollywood star. A long time ago, Humayun Saeed said something to me that I have always remembered: India can be a bonus but it can never be a perpetual career path for a Pakistani actor.
I recently worked with Indian director Pradeep Sarkar for a commercial and even though he was very amiable towards me, we eventually ended up discussing India and Pakistan. It’s just something that we can’t avoid and I refuse to believe that any local actor who goes to India to work doesn’t get to hear comments about Pakistan. They have to curb their personalities there and why should they have to?
Additionally, our actors tend to return from India with surreal expectations from the local industry. We don’t have the budgets for the vanity vans and fringe benefits that are now part of Bollywood. Actors need to understand this before they start throwing tantrums.
Look at Javed Sheikh. He is one of the finest actors in our country and he’s working in productions from all over the world and yet, he gives respect to whoever he works with. We need to understand that eventually, we have to pave our careers in Pakistan. Why work against each other when it could be easier to just work with each other?
For one of the country’s biggest stars, you’re surprisingly humble. How do you keep the success from going to your head?
Fahad Mustafa:There was a time when I rode a motorbike and I travelled in buses and I haven’t forgotten it.
Right now, I think I am just going through a lucky run in my career. All my life, I have made some very bad decisions. I was supposed to be a pharmacist and I dropped out in third year. And I believe that one day, this phase in my career will also end. My game show gets very high ratings in Ramazan but I never ask my bosses at the ARY Network what the numbers are. I just brace myself for the day when the ratings won’t be as high, when I’ll be fading out. This is what keeps me grounded.
Besides, what’s the charm in having a bloated ego? I enjoy my work and I want others to enjoy it with me. The staff in my production company includes young people who are talented and are willing to work hard to get somewhere. And I never dictate them like I am their boss. We just work together.
Did you branch out into production particularly because actors can fade out with age and then, they can develop their careers as producers?
Fahad Mustafa:I like producing. My father was a producer back in the STN days and so I understand the nitty-gritties. Of course, as an actor, there is always the fear that one day you will not get offered any work. In such a scenario, I’d rather create my own content. Credit for my success as a producer also largely goes to the ARY Network. They have always promoted my work fairly and equally with that of others.
Three years down the line, your equation with the ARY Network is still going strong. Have you considered branching out to other networks as well?
Fahad Mustafa:Currently, my productions are airing on ARY Network and Urdu1. Should the need arise, I will work with the others too but I am satisfied with the direction that I have taken with my career. For three years, my CEO at ARY, Jerjees Seja, and I have been working together and we still get along. We laugh together and worked together every day during Ramazan. That’s a rare equation.
Besides, I have learnt that it is better to work with the people who want to work with you rather than run after those who don’t really care. For three years, prior to coming on board with ARY, I hosted a morning show for the Hum Network and I think I got completely drained physically and mentally at the time. Perhaps they didn’t see the potential in me but I felt that I just couldn’t match up to their particular favourite group of actors.
When you work with someone who believes in you, your work improves, you look better, feel better. My career immediately mushroomed after joining ARY. It’s just better to work with people who are truly interested in working with you.
