Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 03 Review – Realistic Portrayal of Reality!
Ohkay so, this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar was detailed & slow but in a good way. I like the fact that the director is taking things slow by giving us an in-depth view into every situation while still making a lot of progress. While watching this episode, my eyes stayed glued to the screen because of the phenomenal performances with which all the actors have brought life to their characters & I must say, the writer & the director should take a bow for such a convincing portrayal of harsh realities.
So, Noori despite being told not to, decided to unveil the culprit & unfortunately for her, he happens to be the son of local politician who obviously has power, authority & resources. In that entire scene, what I loved the most was the little supporter that Noori had. It was heart-warming to see that where this sort of courage & support should’ve come to Noori by her parents, especially her mother, her younger brother had faith in Noori & he was ready to fight for her. I must say the child artist added so much of warmth & honesty in that scene which was filled with negativity that was being spread by the policemen. They surely shed a light on the fact how insensitive policemen can get with the rape victims where in stead of inquiring about what the girl went through, they become self-proclaimed judges who deem it as their moral right to point fingers at a girl’s character because in their ‘mardana’ mind, a man can never be wrong & if a girl gets violated physically, it is only because she had a loose character!
Zubiya was finding it hard to pick up the pieces after her mother has left. I loved how they showcased that in the absence of a mother, how the home becomes a house where there was no one to welcome Zubiya or place food in front of her. I loved those little shots where they showed how Zubiya had to fetch her lunch herself & sat there in seclusion only with her mother’s memories.
Sheema in my opinion got a lot of coverage in this episode & I hope in the coming episodes, we don’t get to see her much because honestly speaking, there’s nothing new or different to her that I would want to see. Sheema took a day to turn into a typical bhabhi who obviously is showing her true colors because she is not happy with the current situation. Sheema is not only ungrateful but she is someone who doesn’t know what it is like to be content in life. She has everything going for her, she has a husband, a son, a luxurious lifestyle but just because she has a father in law who is authoritative & treats her husband like an employee at work, she is unhappy. The way Rehan smiled at her was something sweet like at least he understands his wife’s perspective & has a laid back attitude when it comes to her because he knows her complaints are never ending. To be honest, I don’t mind Sheema’s character & attitude, but yes, I will when she will start creating problems for Zubiya. With Sheema being so dominating & controlling, I am not sure how long Rehan will be able to keep up with his support & sympathy that he feels for Zubiya because Sheema is constantly trying to draw his attention away from his little sister. Rehan is quite submissive, which is not a bad thing but in general, he is failing to draw a line & maintaining a balance which definitely will affect Zubiya in the future.
At least Rehan showed that he was considerate towards Zubiya’s feelings when he told her that she should’ve asked for her college fee from her & not Khalil but then again, Zubiya was forced to remind him that he wasn’t there when she was looking forward to talk to him. I must say, even though this character is quite annoying, I enjoy watching Khalil’s scenes, like I find myself laughing during his scenes because Ehtashamuddin has portrayed this character so realistically. I must say, Khalil has quite a lot of nakhras when it comes to food & even though he may not say it, his wife took good care of him because of which he has developed such taste buds & now when she is no more, even he is finding it hard to adjust to new people taking care of his basic needs. I liked the exchange of words that happened between Sheema & Khalil, like he is well aware of everything that happens under his roof & not only that, he is well aware of everyone’s nature, that is why he knew that Sheema had her sights on her mother in law’s gold, which he made sure to get it back from her possession!
Well, Jahangir’s mother thinks he is a bacha & he was seeking maafi for his ghalti. LOL! Kya bacha hai aur kya ghalti hai aur kya uski maafi thi. To be honest, they have perfectly highlighted how power & authority can turn human beings into animals, that is why even Jahangir’s father Rab Nawaz wasn’t ashamed of what his son did, but in stead he was worried that this might cost him his seat in upcoming elections as the opposition party was looking for reasons to bring him down. I must say I enjoyed his speech at Women’s Day Conference because through him, the drama makers showed the real face of the politicians who only tell lies when they speak to the general public & use heavy words like izzat, tahaffuz, muzahmat which are meaningless to them because when it comes to their own family members, they have completely different set of rules. Rab Nawaz didn’t even breathe in between his speech since he was so focused on convincing women that he was in the favor of their support while easily concealing the truth that he was hiding a rapist in his own home. I found it quite interesting that even Daniyal was present at that conference because I am sure Daniyal is going to be the one who will bring Rab Nawaz & his son Jahangir down. Even though it was for a brief moment, but I liked how they introduced Daniyal’s character as a lawyer who believes in his principles & doesn’t believe in budging for anyone. I am sure Daniyal will bring Noori the justice that she deserves & I am definitely looking forward to that journey.
I had a good time watching this episode, even though the scenarios are grave & the theme of the drama is based on social issues but the director has tried to keep it as less intense as possible, while still maintaining the essence of the story. There is so much that is going to happen in the future episodes & I am already excited to see that because the foundations have been laid in such a convincing manner. I must say, all the actors have done a brilliant job, especially Ehtashamuddin, Sajal Ali & also the girl playing the role of Sheema (help me with her real name please). However, I felt that Shaz Khan was having issues in delivering Urdu dialogues that required a lot of continuity as he clearly seemed uncomfortable & the timing was off too. I hope in the future episodes, Shaz Khan is able to do justice to Daniyal’s character since he has an important role in the story. The direction & the production values are great. I can’t wait to see more. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar.

I wouldn’t call it a romance or comedy. I guess you can call it a drama film, but it has a little bit of everything in it.”
Here’s how the directors of the film approached her
“She found me online hosting one of my music shows. After watching a few episodes she looked me up and found out I act as well and decided to approach me.”
“I was working with Manisha Koirala and she is amazing at what she does. I had a lot of fun and it was overall amazing,” she added.
Saba Qamar’s Hindi Medium Postponed, Here’s The New Release Date
In Bollywood, it has become a regular thing these days to reschedule the release date of films to prevent the clash with other films.
Hindi Medium starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar has been postponed, it will now release on May 19 instead of May 12. Reports state that the film has been pushed to May 19 to avoid the clash with Amitabh Bachchan’s Sarkar. The film will now clash with Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend. However, the makers said that the release date has been pushed further to give Hindi Medium one more week’s worth of promotion time to ensure that the film gets enough publicity.
The producer, Dinesh Vijan says,
“After watching the film Irrfan and I both felt that we should give it a week more to promote since it has the potential. We are confident about how the film has shaped up and sure that the audience will love it too.”
Saba Qamar is currently in Mumbai to promote her Bollywood flick Hindi Medium.

Muqabil Episode 22 Review – Must-Watch!
I have to admit that the last scene of this episode made me forget every other development in this episode and I had to watch this episode again so that I could write the review! What a cliffhanger this ending was and I hope that this time around this last scene turns out to be exactly how the viewers would want to see it unfold otherwise it will be a major disappointment. Right now, I am thinking how will I be able to wait another week to find out what Zubeida actually heard especially after watching the preview of the next episode. When Arman was shouting and saying all those things, I was wondering how come no one ever hears them talking and then Zubeida was standing right there – best ending ever to ensure that all of us wait for the next episode impatiently.
Mohsin Abbas Haider and Kubra Khan stole the show yet again with their faultless performances and the amazing chemistry which makes all their scenes special. Their performances and chemistry are the reasons why they should have been given more screen time together in every episode. Arman’s dialogues about Pareesa entering his life like a khudkhush bambar and the way Pareesa tried to make him understand that she did not plan all this was the best part of this episode. Although as a whole there were some filler scenes in this episode as well but few conversations which were intense and performances which were truly mind blowing made this episode an interesting watch. This time around it was easier for me to connect to Arman’s character and I simply love how Pareesa has been shown as such a strong individual. Although Pareesa is shattered from inside but even then she always found a reason to continue loving people. She distanced herself from her parents because she blamed them more than anyone else for what happened to her but she still chose to love and protect Nadia and her flowers. Now too when she found out what a wonderful person Arman was and how much he loved her, she loved him back and is now being shown fighting for their relationship. I must say that there was a time when I felt for Arman way more than I did for Pareesa because I saw him as collateral damage but now Pareesa is definitely being put through a lot more. Mohsin Abbas Haider’s expressions were brilliant when Pareesa was walking out; Arman clearly did not want this, he was torn apart but he also could not let Pareesa go.
Apart from Arman and Pareesa’s scenes together, Zubeida’s conversation with Pareesa in the kitchen was another one which seemed to be going nowhere until Pareesa asked Zubeida if she practiced what she was preaching. Pareesa’s statement could be the reason why Zubeida got inquisitive and decided to find out what exactly was the problem between Arman and Pareesa. I can’t wait for Shehnaz to find out the truth especially after watching her showing so much support not only for Arman but also for Mahmood. She blamed Pareesa for her “attitude” and appreciated Mahmood and his family for putting up with her!
The only issue I have with the developments so far is that Mahmood cannot sense the hatred and disgust Arman feels for him even though it is quite apparent from the way he looks at him. Pareesa’s expressions in the preview of the next episode suggested something completely different! The next episode can be the game changer, let’s see. Muqabil is back on track and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 02 Review – Absolutely Gripping!
Ohkay so, what a gripping episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan, that I thoroughly enjoyed watching. What I am enjoying the most about this drama at the moment is that it has so many stories & so many characters, that the moment a scenario changes, it immediately shifts the focus onto completely different situation, which once again grabs your attention. However, I feel, at the moment only the situations are unfolding & apart from a few characters, we haven’t really gotten much insight into the rest of the characters, which I hope will change & we will get to know all the characters in great detail. The writing & the direction is spot on & I am definitely looking forward to what the rest of the story is about.
I love Raani’s character, like I remember saying that before but I will say that again, I love her character & I enjoy watching her on-screen. The credit definitely goes to Ushna Shah for giving Raani’s character such a perfect treatment that she has become a treat to watch. I love the fact that where Raani is quite mature for her age, she still has this naivety about her, which makes her character very balanced & admirable for some reason. Considering the situation that she has faced all her life & the sort of experiences she has had because of the nature of her work, she still doesn’t have much exposure to know what happens in the world which is beyond her comprehension.
I loved the scene where Shammo came to bid his final good bye to Raani, like it was so sweet & heart-warming & can I just say how innocent that flying kiss of farewell was. Shammo really thinks highly of Raani & he has a high regard of her because of which, he actually took her advice to heart. Shammo was obviously having issues with the life that he was leading but Raani’s advice gave him the courage to step out of his comfort zone because it was Raani who told him to have some faith in himself that he can do anything that he wants & his life wasn’t only designed for singing & dancing. I know in real life, we may not see or feel for people like Shammo but I am sure, the portrayal in Alif Allah Aur Insaan especially through the character of Shammo will help us in changing our perspective & way we look at them, because this drama is surely going to highlight everything that they go through, be it harassment or violence. I like the fact that the writer had this unconventional approach where she brought a character like Shammo to life who despite not having much exposure still has the idea of self-respect & dignity in him, where he believes he can earn a decent living for himself, which is something so refreshing & new. I would love to see the transition & the transformation the character of Shammo will go through & I must say, the way Imran Ashraf has portrayed this character with so much of honesty & truthfulness, it warms my heart & I am looking forward to Shammo’s journey the most.
So, Shahzeb’s mother approached Malik Hashmat to ask for Nazneen’s proposal. I wish they had given us a little more insight into Shahzeb’s character because so far, all I know about him is that he comes from an affluent background & has fallen in love with Nazneen, but when it comes to his personality or his nature, I have no idea about him. So, Nazneen being Nazneen, didn’t really bother much about Shahzeb & his mother as she was more interested in going out with her friends. What I liked about the entire scenario was the way Nazneen shared her concerns with her father, like if you see Malik Hashmat, you’ll get an idea that despite being a loving father, he wouldn’t give much freedom to his daughters to voice their opinions, but it came as a pleasant surprise that Nazneen not only disapproved of Shahzeb in front of her father, but clearly said that she didn’t want to get married at the moment. It was good seeing Malik Hashmat being such an accommodating & easy going father, considering the social setup & environment he hails from. Well, yes, what also came as a surprise to me was how despite knowing about his daughter’s disapproval, he went ahead & fixed her marriage with Shahzeb, like even though Malik Hashmat did give Nazneen enough edge to be frank with him, in the end he made a point that he is going to be the one who will make the final decision.
So, the character that got introduced was of Nigar Begum (Sana Fakhar), a courtesan who is madly in love with Shahzeb. I am interested to know how & when Shahzeb & Nigar came across each other for her to fall so much in love with him to such an extent where she prays to see him, to be with him & has a man tailing him. The description that the flower vendor gave to Raani about Nigar was quite interesting & just when I was hoping that Raani doesn’t pay heed to everything that she has heard, I was proven wrong because it was all that Raani could think of as for her, the idea of a woman walking on money was something so alien & fascinating at the same time. Well, I don’t really blame Raani, like she spends hours asking people for money & she has never raised Rs. 500, that is why she wanted to know more about Nigar Begum who according to her makes money easily. I must say I love the fact that Raani’s character has so many shades, like she is mature for her age yet she is naive but she still has so much of confidence in herself, where she can look in the mirror, apply some kajal & praise herself for her beauty. All this makes her character so interesting & unique.
Just when I thought that we will get to see Shammo being subjected to harrassment & his journey won’t have an easy kick-start, I was pleasantly surprised that Shammo met two decent men who treated him as human being & showed some faith in him. The fact that Shammo accepted the tip only because he was told that it was an advance payment for his work goes to show that he has left everything behind & he seriously wants to make money based on his hard-work.
Overall, this episode was quite interesting & I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I must say, even though I don’t agree with the concept of Dargah, they perfectly used it to add mystical touch to the entire aspect of love. Sana Fakhar has surely played the character of a courtesan with a lot of grace & elegance, like not even for a second she crossed the line or looked OTT. Sana Fakhar has given Nigar Begum’s character a lot of charm & personality, so well done Sana! Imran Ashraf made me feel Shammo’s pain, which goes to show how much emotionally invested he himself was in this character, which again is his success as an actor. Now coming to the star of the episode & for me that was hands down Ushna Shah, like Raani is messy & unattractive but she still has so much of sass & innocence that she actually made me fall in love with her character, lol. I am loving this drama at the moment & I can’t wait to see more. The direction of this drama has been top-notch & I love the locations. I love the poetry too that they have used in the background to describe the theme of this story & also the concept of love. Hope we’ll get an insight into the rest of the characters too, especially Shahzeb’s. Thoroughly impressed with the theme & the characters of the drama. Please share your thoughts about this beautiful episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

And the leading lady of the film is the very talented, Sohai Ali Abro.
“I feel that Adnan is such a sensitive and intelligent filmmaker and I truly believe in the kind of cinema he wants to create. When I saw Shah I just knew that I had to work with him someday and here I am,” said Sohai in a press release. “It is an absolute honour to play Zenith in his film. The role of this incredible, empowered female is one that I can relate to and is close to my heart. I have always believed in the liberating power of our women, especially considering the taboos we face in our society, and I am really happy that a lot of young girls would be able to look up to me for doing something positive and inspiring.”
Sohai Ali Abro has raised the ante this time by signing a female-centric film and we’re super excited to see the Saat Pardo Mein star, as Zenith.

Worst Dressed Celebrities At Hum Awards 2017
Award ceremonies are star studded events that bring limelight onto all the celebrities who walk the red carpet. Attending award functions also mean that all the celebrities get a chance to turn around the heads because of their styling, dressing and overall persona. However, even though all the celebrities do succeed in turning the heads around, there are always quite a few exceptions who don’t do that for the right reasons.
Here is the list of all the fashion faux pas that made it to Hum Awards that were held on April 29th. Please take a look:
Osman Khalid Butt
Osman Khalid Butt takes pride in being creative, perhaps for the same reason he decided to be creative with his dressing as well but failed miserably. Someone please tell Osman that a good outfit can never be made out of old curtains.
Momina Mustehsan
What was Momina Mustehsan thinking? This color combination does not suit Momina Mustehsan and it is very dull. Not only this, the whole outfit is ill stitched. Although Momina loves her hair color but the fact is that it dulls her face and entire look. Also, the way her heavily bronzed face is competing against her hair color is giving her a very muddy and messy look. We expected Momina Mustehsan to look more colorful, vibrant and chic because after all she represents the youth of the country but her look has boring written all over it.
Mawra Hocane
We think Mawra’s head is still in Disneyland that she visited last year and hasn’t been able to recover from the self-proclaimed princess hangover, that is why on both LSA and Hum Awards, she tried to create a Pakistani version of Disney princess but couldn’t do justice to the title.
Mehwish Hayat
Mehwish Hayat was probably focusing on her performances more than her outfit. She usually dresses up more chic when she is out and about compared to what she wore to the award ceremony. It looks like Mehwish Hayat is having a tough time keeping up with her busy schedule and we are not sure what to say about the humble abode that she is sporting on her outfit!
Mansha Pasha
We are sure that Mansha Pasha took Taher Shah’s recent hit single ‘Aainjal’ (Angel) quite seriously therefore she decided to show up at Hum Awards trying to do justice to her inspirationnnn, genius creation…by God, Heaven on Earth…aggay samajh nahi aya thaaa! Also, the fact that Urwa Hocane wore the exact same outfit 5 weeks back at Oppo’s launch has us rolling our eyes!
Aisha Khan
Aisha Khan’s ill fitted dress and make-up which made her look worn out made us wonder why she was wearing less make-up than she does in most of her dramas!! She was another one of those celebrities who didn’t look vibrant enough for the occasion. It looks like she picked up the outfit from somewhere and wore it without getting it altered.
Quratulain Balouch
Quratulain does not look very happy and her overall look is very casual. She might be one of those celebrities who do not like to dress up fancy but even then wearing something relatively formal which would have suited the occasion would have given her a better look overall.
Meera
Miss Meera Jee at the rate of hotmail dot com looks like someone who got a chance to wear western dress for the first time but since she was so used to her eastern attire, she decided to go for a fusion but made it look like a confusion instead. Heavy tight curls on one side with a huge backcombing make her look suitable for a Saree but the moment you see a sleeveless gown, it sends shock-waves to your brain. The black belt makes us feel that it should be on a waist of a judo karate student but Miss Meera Jee stole it from him/her!
Nadia Hussain
Nadia Hussain tried to show to the world how hen’s feather can be dyed and put to use but she failed miserably. The 3/4th net sleeves serve no purpose and the lacy top doesn’t do much either. Looks like the dress designer tried to play with a lot of fabrics and Nadia Hussain was bold enough to believe she could carry it but we’ll be doing the honors of bursting her bubble, she could not!
Asim Azhar
Asim Azhar looks like a fashion disaster in the floral jacket and those red shoes. We love his confidence but what’s with the outfit? He reminds us why truck art is meant to be on trucks and not on clothes. Our advice to Asim.. please fire your designer!
Mikaal Zulfikar
Looks like Mikaal Zulfikar got inspired by Gohar Rahseed’s outfit at Lux Style Awards, that is why he went for a similar coat, re-emphasizing on the fact how old bedsheets should not be thrown away.
So, with this we conclude the list of Worst Dressed Celebrities at Hum Awards. Feel free to agree, disagree or add more names to the list.
Zahra Mirza & Fatima Awan
Best Dressed Celebrities At Hum Awards 2017
Hum Awards – another star studded award ceremony giving another reason for the celebrities to make a fashion statement. Where some of the celebrities disappointed us a great deal, some of the celebrities restored our faith in their sense of styling, Pakistani designers and makeup artists because they carried everything with a lot of confidence and grace, therefore making it to the list dedicated to the best dressed celebrities.
Let’s take a look at those celebrities who were dressed to impress at Hum Awards:
Reema Khan
Reema Khan looked like a vision at Hum awards. Her overall look was Eastern and although she wore a very heavy outfit, she pulled it off with grace by complimenting it with a simple hairdo and make-up which was neither too Over The Top nor too plain. Reema Khan looked absolutely amazing, her look was perfect and she carried her self flawlessly too.
Vaneeza Ahmed
Vaneeza Ahmed was elegance and grace personified at Hum Awards and happens to be our personal favorite. Vaneeza went for a completely eastern look in maroon Saree/Gown and topped it with a statement necklace making it obvious that she put in some effort and hit the right mark. Her hair updo with slight curls are giving us 60’s vibe. Where so many models make us wonder what did they learn by being a part of the industry, Vaneeza Ahmed clearly made a statement that she has definitely garnered a lot of knowledge when it comes to fashion and also knows how to put it to good use at occasions like these.
Kubra Khan
Although Kubra Khan’s dress looked more like a wedding outfit but we really appreciate the fact that she did not follow those female celebrities who think that dressing ultra modern is a better option than sticking to our own Eastern outfits. Kubra Khan’s make-up was right on point and we love her elegant hairdo. She couldn’t have picked a better look for her first appearance on an award show after she gained recognition and fan following.
Hamza Ali Abbasi
One thing everyone appreciates the most about Hamza Ali Abbasi is how he takes pride in his national dress as a Pakistani, that is why on every other award function, he makes sure to wear Shalwar Kameez. Hamza not only carries Shalwar Kameez with a lot of pride, but also with a lot of style and grace, therefore in our opinion, he surely was one of the best dressed celebrities on Hum Awards.
Bushra Ansari
Bushra Ansari keeps on experimenting when it comes to styling and she never sticks to a signature look. However, this time around, she made sure to stun everyone with her choice of clothing and overall styling. Dressed in a plum eastern style gown, Bushra Ansari looks decent and elegant. Her overall hair-styling and makeup completed the look as well, giving her enough reasons to standout.
Hareem Farooq
Hareem Farooq was seen wearing two outfits but the flowy net gown that she wore during hosting definitely complemented her overall personality. Hareem was one of those celebrities who carried the outfit which actually suited her structure and that is why she seemed far more confident and comfortable in it. Her hair and makeup also added a lot of grace to the overall look.
Sajal Ali’s overall look shows that a simple look if carried properly can make you stand out in the crowd. Sajal Ali’s overall look is young and girly which goes with her age and personality. Her dress has the perfect flair and although the length is relatively shorter but it looks good on her.
Shehzad sheikh looked mighty handsome in a look which was perfect starting from his hairstyle to the cut and color combination of his outfit which he pulled off with style. The fact that Shehzad sheikh is in perfect shape nowadays also compliments his overall look.
Sania Saeed
Dressed in a simple white gown with silver accents and keeping her tresses tucked nicely at the back made Sania Saeed look simply beautiful. Sania Saeed proved how simplicity can never go wrong and you can make quite a statement with that as well because by the end of the day, if you are comfortable in something, it is going to reflect in your overall body language and will make you seem confident.
Nadia Khan
Nadia Khan was MIA but she has definitely come back with a bang. Nadia not only looks fresh, fit and vibrant, she is making quite a lot of fashion statements as well. Dressed in an embellished heavy formal top and completing it with a simple silk black skirt definitely made Nadia Khan look perfectly dressed for the occasion. With a partial smokey eye and loose curls on the front, Nadia Khan surely took the glam to the right level.
Aiman Khan
Even though we are not a fan of twins’ fashion sense and style, this was probably the first time that Aiman put the right amount of effort and made things work. Aiman went for a simple but formal lacy gown and the color complement her skin tone a lot. Enough amount of makeup and straight hair gave Aiman a very sophisticated and elegant look which probably she was aiming for.
Noman Ijaz
We are so happy that Noman Ijaz has decided to be a part of these award shows because he is one of those celebrities who always look great no matter what they wear. On these awards however he looked even more handsome than usual because his look is formal and stylish both. It is always great when celebrities choose to wear traditional outfits.
So, this concludes the list of best dressed celebrities at Hum Awards. Feel free to agree, disagree or add more names to the list.
Fatima Awan & Zahra Mirza
“I’m very, very disappointed in Yasir’s tasteless comment,” Says Ahsan Khan
Yasir Hussain’s unpleasant comment created an uproar in the entertainment fraternity. His joke about child molestation at the mega, star-studded event HUM TV Awards ceremony was totally uncalled for. Ahsan Khan won the award for his performance in Udaari and when he went up to the stage to receive his accolade, Yasir Hussain said, “Itna khoobsurat rapist, kaash mein bhi bacha hota (What a handsome rapist; I wish I was a child as well).”
Moreover, the attendees at the event also giggled at the joke. However, Yasir Hussain released a video recently to apologise, but the damage has been done already.
Ahsan Khan has finally shared his thoughts on Yasir Hussain’s disappointing comment.
Something Haute got in touch with Ahsan Khan and he said, “I’m very, very disappointed in Yasir’s tasteless comment. I really do not want to associate myself with this cheap joke in any way. But what are you going to say to all those people who actually laughed at this joke? There’s a problem with our mentality and that’s what we need to work on.”
“He’s given an apology and I think we should give him a chance. Sometimes people say things in the spur of the moment and there’s a lot of pressure on stars when they’re standing on such a huge stage and speaking to so many people. I do want to say that he doesn’t need to apologize to me though; he needs to apologize to the society because I’m speaking on their behalf.”
“One statement doesn’t change anything. We’ve brought the issue of child abuse to the limelight and I personally will work on bringing such social issues forward,” he added.
Yeh Raha Dil Episode 12 – A Breath of Fresh Air!
Ohkay so, this was such a nice episode of Yeh Raha Dil filled with so many beautiful & emotional moments. I am loving the emotional ride that Hayat’s life has turned out to be but what makes me love her character even more is the fact that the bechari factor hasn’t crept in till date & it seems highly unlikely for it to happen, which makes me sigh with relief. With each passing episode, we get more & more chances to fall in love with the characters because the writer has made sure to give clarity to their thoughts, because of which you understand their feelings & their struggles.
So, Affaq is trying his level best to mend ways with Hayat because he knows she is not in a mood to give him an edge. However, Hayat did show a few little signs to Affaq which did highlight the fact that she was alright with the idea of having him around, that why despite saying no, she budged & accepted his requests of giving some time to him out of her busy schedule. Even though Affaq is trying hard to break the ice but Hayat is dodging the bullet, however, it was good to see her sharing some emotional moments with him like visiting her mother’s grave & listening to his philosophy of how he wants to improve as a human being & wants to fix things. I am sure Affaq doesn’t want to throw a curveball yet but once he will learn that Hayat has grown comfortable with him, he will definitely let her know that he wants to buy Hayat House for her as he is not too happy with the situation she is currently facing.
I love Hayat’s attitude, like she steals little moments out of her life to make herself smile. The way she pestered Hassan Sir & then tried to come to peace with him was cute, like she knows she has stuffed up & has made a mistake but it still didn’t stop her from trying to fix the damage. Hassan didn’t get much coverage which I didn’t mind because I am not too sure what to make of his character as of now considering how reserved and uptight he is. It is good to see Hayat getting back on track where she has made herself capable enough to make a living for herself again, even though she is not too happy with the changes that have been made for her but still she is taking care of herself on her own!
That was another beautiful conversation that happened between Haroon & Zaki. I think it goes to show what a gentleman Haroon himself is & what sort of expectations he has from his son where he doesn’t want him to wrong anyone. Haroon is aware of the fact that Zaki has developed feelings for Hayat but still he wanted Zaki to be mindful of the fact that Nida will be hurt in the middle of this, which was something that Haroon will never approve of. It would’ve been so easy for Haroon to encourage Zaki to ditch Nida considering how even he thinks she is not suitable for Zaki but he didn’t do that. Also, another thing that makes me respect Haroon’s character a bit more is the fact that he has never once said bad thing about Nida, even though it is obvious that he is not too fond of her personality but still, he has always made a point about Zaki’s shortcomings & has believed that Nida must be a nice person but she is not compatible with Zaki. How many parents think like that, in our dramas I am saying? All these conversations are so refreshing to hear where no girl is being targeted for no good reason & in fact everyone around them is seen reasoning decently as they have a completely different perspective.
So, like I discussed last week, looks like Nida is not into Zaki as much as she is into the idea of defeating Hayat because she can not come to terms with the fact that Zaki can leave her for a girl like Hayat. It goes to show that Nida never really understood what the meaning of true love is because for her Zaki is just a possession that she wants to keep to herself. For a change, it was soooooo good to hear a woman not ripping another woman apart, like Nida’s mother Fatima didn’t hold Hayat responsible for what Zaki was feeling for her, otherwise in our dramas it doesn’t even take a second for a mother of any character to shame another girl for being the culprit. Even though I didn’t expect such wisdom from Fatima but it goes to show that she is putting her experience to good use & that is why she wants to knock some sense into Nida that if Zaki is not into her anymore, it is not because of Hayat, but because of Zaki himself. It didn’t come as a surprise to me when Nida said that if it would’ve been someone else, she wouldn’t have created a fuss but just because it is Hayat, she wants to battle it out!
So, finally Hayat & Zaki decided to break the ice, it was such a cute moment where all of a sudden they went from being awkward to super comfortable with each other where they got back to their old self bickering their hearts out with each other. Hayat finally decided to rely on Zaki & just because she deemed fit, she turned him into a landlord, which he technically is, therefore according to her, he should be the one taking care of Hayat’s necessities as she is the tenant. This was much needed because I was missing their conversations & I smiled throughout that entire scene because it was perfect, in terms of acting, dialogues & direction! We finally have Hayat & Zaki back together & I can’t wait to see more.
Overall, I loved this episode as well. I will thank Mustafa Afridi personally for adding such refreshing touches to this script where no female is being torn apart or is being shamed for being a female. Haroon never badmouths Nida & even Fatima despite feeling for her daughter didn’t blame Hayat for anything unnecessarily. Even though Fatima has all the more reasons to be against Hayat considering how she is Affaq’s daughter from his first marriage & how she can also be entitled to Affaq’s wealth & property but still, Fatima kept everything aside & kept it strictly about Zaki’s emotional attachment towards her. I think we need more writers like these who despite bringing in such scenarios present a completely different perspective. I was tuned to this episode through HUM’s live streaming & I don’t know which drama’s promo it was, like I wasn’t bothered to pick on the detail but I heard a girl saying this dialogue ‘paida hote hi maar kyu nahi diya mujhe’ & while I was cringing so hard, all of a sudden I got to hear such conversations in Yeh Raha Dil, which made me happy that we have writers like Mustafa Afridi in our industry, who are proving that no girl should feel ‘paida hote hi maar kyu nahi diya mujhe’. Anyways, Anum Gohar, Yumna Zaidi, Arjumand Azhar Hussain & Ayesha Sana, all of them have done such a commendable job. However, Yumna & Ahmed take the crown, especially for acting out the last scene of the episode so brilliantly & effortlessly that too with such perfect timing. Well done guys! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yeh Raha Dil.
Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Yasir Hussain’s Distasteful Comment On Hum Awards
This was not the first time that Yasir Hussain hosted an award show but this was the first time that he made a comment which was criticized strongly by everyone, from celebrities to social activities and the common man. While giving Ahsan Khan his award he commented, “Itna Khoobsurat child molester, kash mei bhi bacha hota.”

The @Humtvnetwork must clarify that was the joke made by host at #HumAwards about child abuse part of script or was it the host's volition
— M. Jibran Nasir 🇵🇸 (@MJibranNasir) April 30, 2017
The level of downright ignorance is disgusting. Trivialising child sexual abuse as if it is a joke. #Moron https://t.co/TBjIYzLmDp

— Muniba Mazari (@muniba_mazari) April 30, 2017
Ahsan Khan played the role of a child molester in drama serial Udaari which was meant to educate the masses about child molestation. Ahsan Khan himself said that playing such a monstrous character was a challenge for him and there were many times when he wanted to kill this character.
There was outrage on social media from every corner after the show, Yasir Hussain apologized for his careless behaviour and the reckless comment.

Sammi Episode 14 Review – Brilliant!
Sammi is turning out to be one of those very few dramas which get better with every passing episode. All the tracks in the story were once again beautifully covered in detail and there were some surprises in store for the viewers too. What I absolutely love about this play is that there are times when I want the story to take a certain turn but the actual twist in the story is contrary to my expectations yet it turns out to be even more meaningful and has a bigger impact. For instance, I wanted and expected Chandni’s character to play the role of an anti-hero probably because Sania Saeed is playing the role and she hardly ever chooses to play a negative role but what we saw today was Karma. Chandni thought that if she planned everything perfectly, her son will be back and Sammi will be gone forever. She did not pause to think what might happen to Sammi when her brother finds her but she made sure that Waqas knew that he should not kill Salar. It was a perfect plan but she learned the hard way that you cannot control everything. Up till the point when Chandni was pressurizing Salar to leave Sammi, she was just being selfish but when she told Waqas about Sammi’s whereabouts and did not try to save her, she was being cruel and was an accomplice to this crime. It went to show that it wasn’t just people like Chaudhry and Waqas who think they could treat people any way they want as long as it suits their needs but even someone like Chandni who knows better would become party to something like this if it suited her. Salar’s death came as a complete surprise, I did not see that coming at all but it definitely had more of an impact on me and gave out a very powerful message.
Naheed’s track also took an interesting turn, I call it interesting and not tragic just yet because we are not sure whether Ghulam Rasool was the one who signed those divorce papers and also because Aalyan is not as helpless as Salar, he is a very solid support who is continuously reminding his father that he does not own Naheed. I absolutely love the way the writer has logically conveyed some very important and relevant messages to the viewers. Every time Naheed’s brother tries to give a wrong meaning to Naheed and Ghulam Rasool’s relationship, Aalyan steps in and explains the obvious. I am certain there are many brothers, fathers and husbands out there who must get uncomfortable while watching this show because there are many houses even in the most modern cities which are male dominated. Even if a woman is earning and is responsible enough to look after herself, men still think they know better.
The director Saife Hassan deserves tons of credit for his skillful direction. The scene in which Waqas entered the house and searched for Sammi was brilliantly directed. Also, when he was tying Sammi to the tree, the whole scenario was shown very realistically. The mob, people who were more interested in making videos than saving the girl and a brother who was so sure that he was doing the right thing, all of these aspects were covered flawlessly.
Adnan Siddiqui is brilliant as Rashid, there are times when I truly feel for him. Rashid’s character is interesting because he is free to go wherever he wants and he can easily live a life different from this one but his mind is imprisoned. One can easily see why he cannot think freely and change his life for good; his mother always tells him that he is Chaudhry’s naukar, Chaudhry treats him like a dog because he feels that he is a paltu kutta and in between all these people and the system, he has lost his identity. The preview of the next episode was superb, I don’t want to make any predictions but I hope that Rashid turns against Chaudhry and realizes that he is capable of being a much better person.
This had to be one of my most favorite episodes of Sammi. It is always great watching a play which is brilliantly written and executed superbly. There are no loop holes whatsoever in the script and the messages are right on point. It is not an easy task to handle so many tracks but the Sammi team managed to get the work done flawlessly. There have been no filler episodes so far and the story is interesting and unpredictable. This drama also has some amazing performances to its credit. Bilal Khan has definitely given me a reason to tune into his next drama, he couldn’t have picked a better character and team for his debut drama. You expect actors like Rehan Sheikh, Adnan Siddiqui, Madiha Rizvi and Sania Saeed to deliver because they know their craft only too well but it is especially wonderful to watch actors like Haris Waheed and Ahad Raza Mir making their presence felt in roles which are very challenging. Also, Malik Raza has yet again proven his versatility by nailing another difficult role.
Can’t wait to watch the next episode of Sammi! Please share your thoughts about this episode.

Tumhare Hain Episodes 1-14 Overview – Keeping It Real
So I figured enough of the ‘mean’ articles and reviews. Especially since the day I posted my last article Ghardari 101 and my washing machine died on me that evening I could not help wonder (while I wallowed in self pity and handwashed uniforms) who I may have angered, haha. But jokes aside, while a few new promising dramas have recently begun to air and the cringe worthy ones are living up to their ‘purpose’ there are a handful that do not blow you away but make for an interesting and entertaining enough watch. One of such dramas, in my opinion, is Tumhare Hain.
Tumhare Hain airs on ARY Digital at 9pm PST. At first it aired on Mondays and then was moved to Fridays a few weeks ago. Written by Parisa Siddiqui and directed by Sherazade Shaikh, the drama stars Agha Ali, Sara Khan and Rabab Hashim as its main leads. Rayaan (Agha Ali) and Zoya (Rabab Hashim) are best friends and neighbours. Their friendship seems to be just that and something that seemingly their families also accept and understand. Zoya is in love with Daniyal (Hassan Ahmed) who belongs to a rich and affluent family. The families do not approve of their relationship so the two elope and then as real life settles in and financial struggles enter the front door, love seems to go out the window. Daniyal has been used to a comfortable, plush life so worrying about jobs, utility and rent bills gets too much for him. His mother (Shaheen Khan) knows her son well and to cut a long story short, she came, she screamed and she conquered -and took her six foot baby boy back home.
Zoya is now left homeless. And then divorced. Meanwhile, Rayaan is a carefree character who lives with his parents. His father (Behroze Sabzwari) constantly puts him down and thinks he takes life too lightly, whereas his mother (Huma Nawab) seems to be one who is constantly trying to keep the peace between father and son. Anyway, Raayan meets Aania (Sara Khan) at a mutual friend’s wedding and both begin to develop feelings for each other. While Aania’s parents put pressure on her to have Rayaan’s family send a proposal so his intentions can be made clear, Zoya faces one issue after the other and Rayaan finds himself rushing to her rescue, time and again. With Zoya’s father’s death and Zoya in a vulnerable place still reeling from the divorce and miscarriage, her mother manages to convince her that Rayaan is the only one who can (and happily wants to) give her a shoulder to lean on. Well more than a shoulder really and managing to emotionally blackmail Rayaan too – both Zoya and Rayaan agree to the marriage. Aania tries to talk sense into Rayaan but he has marked himself out to be the ultimate martyr and savior and feels he needs to choose friendship over love (excuse the cheesiness). Aania also gives in to her parents’ wishes and marries Kamil (Ahmed Hassan) a family friend.
Hereon, we see how both couples try (or do not try) to make their respective marriages work. Yawning yet? I agree, sounds very run of the mill and has ‘watched this a gazillion’ times written all over it. Which brings me to why such a typical story manages to keep me entertained. Firstly, I like how the focus is on each character and their emotions without all the excess background noise (read useless characters and tracks) that make their way into most dramas. There are two couples and this drama is their story. Yes, families have their roles to play but there is no focus on the sudden and elaborate romantic track of say Zoya’s sister (well not yet) that takes away the attention from the main characters. Secondly, I like how there are no desperate, clinging or scheming characters. Yes, Daniyal’s mother is a negative character and she played with his emotions and mind to bring him back. Also, Rayaan’s father is a constant source of tension yet while these negative bits are present, they are bearable and not overdone. When Rayaan made it clear to Aania that things are over, she was miserable but did not begin to screech and stalk. Zoya tried to see Daniyal and understand what and why has happened but once it was clear that that door had closed, yes she had her own sad fest but I like how she is trying to accept her changed circumstances and take things in stride.
Rayaan’s mother is another pleasant surprise. A mother and mother in law who is surprise, surprise – a human being. No raging, scheming banshee here. She understands and respects Rayaan’s decision and while she does not approve of her husband’s antics she does not give in to the helpless, victimized mother role and especially in the latest episode when she sends her daughter in law out to enjoy an evening out with her son and manages to keep the peace at home too is something that seemed somehow realistic to me. I really liked how she explained to Rayaan that if he had chosen to support his best friend and married her then just signing the nikkah papers was not enough. Making the marriage actually work mattered too. Another thing that appealed to me was how Kamil (Aania’s husband) and Rayaan are not constantly lost in their wives’ pasts and accept that yes they had a history but that is what it was – their past. One thing that I do find hard to stomach is elfy Kamil. I find his ‘talk to me’ chorus a bit unreal but it is nice to see how he seemed accepting of Aania’s ‘explanation’ and how both of them are beginning to grow close.
So, while the story seems nothing new I feel that the characters do not lose touch with reality and that appeals a lot to me in a drama. Also, I liked how the setup was kept real. No fancy overdressed housewives, simple households, etc. I was not a big fan of Agha Ali at first when in his initial dramas the constant bobbing of his head was extremely distracting. But he has improved a lot, I feel. Especially since Tum Yaad Aye where he made so many of us fall in love with Sherry’s character, I do make it a point to tune into his dramas. While the conversations with Zoya seemed a bit forced at times, trying to convince the viewers how they are just ‘buddies’ but for the most part it worked for me. Sara Khan is another actress who has grown on me over time and I found her acting, especially her smiles and reactions when talking to Agha Ali or later to Ahmed Hassan seemed so natural that I did not feel that I was watching her ‘act’. Rabab Hashim is one actress who seems to pick herself up from the sets of one drama to another in exactly the same attires, appearance and emotions. She does not blow me away with her acting but I can not really fault her as such either. Hassan Ahmed is another actor who has the same expressions, same tone of voice, same acting in each drama. Here too he lived up to his typical pained, suspicious detective look. I am aware that Ahmed Hassan has appeared in a few dramas and I have not watched him act before Tumhare Hain but he seems to be doing a decent job here.
The OST is also something that although is not amazing, it is a bit soothing after listening to it a few times. I do love the instrumental version of it though that plays in a few scenes during an episode.
Either the treatment given to a drama should be such where you are transported into another world such as probably Sang e Marmar and now Alif, Allah aur Insaan seem to be to cite a few examples. But when the drama does not have that wow factor then there has to be something that stands out in the drama that catches your attention and everything I have mentioned above is what contributes to making, in my opinion, Tumhare Hain an entertaining watch. When I began writing this overview I had not watched the preview of the next episode and given my luck with drama reviews, I may have jinxed this drama too for the preview shows that Rayaan’s and Aania’s paths will cross again and I am curious to see which way the writer chooses to go. I will not be reviewing this drama weekly but I felt it was something interesting to watch and wrote the overview for those of you who are looking for something light-ish to watch and to hear the thoughts of those who are already following it. Is there anyone else besides me who enjoys watching this drama? What appeals to you about this drama – or am I the only one? Would love to hear your thoughts.
