Facebook agrees to send delegation to Pakistan

0

It was being heard that a petition to ban Facebook has been submitted and that it will be banned in Pakistan from March 22 onwards.

It happened after Interior Minister, Chaudry Nisar Ali asked for controversial content to be removed from all social media platforms, if they cannot be removed, social media should be taken down for the time being until the matter at hand is sorted.

Facebook has now approved of sending a delegation to the Pakistan in order to resolve this matter with the Pakistani government.

A Ministry of Interior spokesperson said that the management of Facebook, in response to Pakistan’s request, has conveyed that it was aware of Pakistan’s reservations and wanted to resolve the issue through mutual consultation and dialogue.

A spokesperson for the ministry said that Facebook has even nominated a focal person to contact Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The Facebook administration is of the opinion that dialogue regarding the issue would lead to its resolution.

Ajoka leaves for Amritsar to perform at Partition-themed theatre fest

0

A 20-member Ajoka Theatre Pakistan consisting of artists and technicians have left for India through the Wagah border on Wednesday to participate in a festival in India, according to a press release.

The six-day festival is a collaboration with an Amritsar-based theatre group, Manch Rang Manch. During the festival, a total of six plays will be performed at two venues — Virsa Vihaar cultural centre and Amritsar Art Gallery.

The theme of the festival is “Revisiting Partition” in view of the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Partition and independence.

Ajoka team will perform three plays — Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, Kaun Hai Yeh Gustakh and Anhi Maai Da Sufna. All of the plays are based on real life stories and reflect the anguish, pain and suffering of the era of Partition.

Famous theatre personalities from India and Pakistan will speak at the seminar.

Before leaving for Amritsar, Ajoka’s Executive Director Shahid Nadeem said:

“Holding of an Indo-Pak theatre festival has acquired more significance in view of the ongoing tensions at the border and antagonism between the two governments. This is a declaration that artists reject politics of confrontation and hate and are determined to promote peace between the people of India and Pakistan.”

The festival will follow Ajoka’s tour of Indian Punjab where the group will stage its play Anhi Mai Da Sufna (The blind old woman’s dream), which is about the generations separated by the 1947 Partition. The play will be performed in Jalandhar, Patiala, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

Religious clerics advice Veena Malik to save marriage

0

It seems like that religious clerics have stepped in to save Veena Malik’s marriage.

Mufti Naeem, a religious scholar, gave Veena and her husband, Asad Khattak three months to reconsider their divorce plans. After three years of marriage, Veena had reportedly filed for divorce. The couple has two children.

After a meeting with the couple at his seminary, Jamia Banoria, Karachi, the religious figure held Khattak responsible for “wrongdoing” but said the couple was given three months to reconsider their decision to split.

Asad Khattak has confessed his crime of torturing Veena, spending her bank balance and even selling property,” Mufti Naeem told The Express Tribune.

“The court decree about the divorce is non-maintainable. Veena filed the case in a family court, Lahore and the decision came in her favour without hearing Asad, who was abroad. Hence, as per Islamic teaching, it is not divorce, but a one-sided decision.”

“Since her husband has realised his mistakes, we attempted for their reconciliation because the children will ultimately suffer,” he said. “We have decided… Asad will pay Veena Rs0.3 million every month such that she can look after the children.”

The couple, the religious scholar said, will live separately for at least three months till Veena comes up with new conditions. “If her husband agrees to those conditions, the matter will again be referred to court,” he added.

Nazr e Bad Episode 15 & 16 Review – Convincing Developments!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Nazr e Bad were quite interesting. It is commendable that they have so many aspects to cover in the drama that at this stage, the way they are revealing one thing after another is keeping the interest alive in the show. What I like the most about Nazr e Bad is how they have linked everything together, like one thing leads to another & everything falls in its right place. Nothing has been overdone so far & the pace of the show is great too.

So, once again Maham & Aftab’s relation was put through a test because Parvez directed all his evil energies towards them. Aftab realized his mistakes & promised to stand by Maham no matter what & for certain period of time, he proved that he was a man of his words but then, he was able to do that because at that point Parvez was busy focusing on other things, or shall I say that he was distracted, that is why Aftab & Maham got some days off from their problems, but sadly, everything was short-lived because once again Parvez decided to punish them for being together & he succeeded.

Abeera & Ahmer got a lot of coverage in these episodes. Abeera eloped with Ahmer & she took all the money that Parvez handed over to Almas. I am not feeling this entire Abeera Ahmer track but then again, it adds some sort of drama to the drama so it seems justified. To be honest, I find Abeera’s authoritativeness a bit too annoying. Well, the entire scene where Parvez spoke about how deprived he was all his life without money stirred zero sympathy for him but then it gave us an insight into his twisted psychology, personality & all those inferiority complexes that he has harbored over these years. All the things that Parvez said also shed a light on Almas’s upbringing because every single feeling that Parvez was giving words to seemed like a reflection of what Almas has felt & spoken about all her life. Almas was the one who always compared herself & her financial situation with Nusrat, therefore it was imperative for Parvez to absorb all of that & that is exactly why he has turned out to be a carbon copy of his mother because these are all the things that he saw his mother indulging into all his life. It is unfortunate that Parvez has an upper hand at this moment because I can’t wait to see how he & Almas will pay for their wrongdoings!

Salma puts me off big time, not the actress but the character but then again, it is because she is a perfect example of how most of the insecure mother in laws are who always play a double game where they’d taunt & torture their daughters in law but would change the entire scenario when confronted by their sons. Even though I find Aftab’s attitude quite annoying where he sides with his mother & holds Maham responsible for everything but then again, even he is not solely responsible for the way he reacts because he himself is under the influence of Parvez’s blackmagic.

I don’t think Nusrat made the right choice by choosing to stay with Almas, the woman she has hated her entire life & the woman she holds responsible for what she is going through right now. I really hope they don’t drag this scenario where Parvez & Almas will mistreat Nusrat & torture her even more. Even if Nusrat had to leave her brother’s place, she could have spoken to her eldest son Baber because he would’ve arranged everything for her as Shafeeq was also ready to take her responsibility knowing that he wronged her.

Parvez surely has earned himself a loyal client in the form of Aneesa Yazdani because he gave her what she wanted. I think this is another dark secret of the society that the team of Nazr e Bad has tried to unveil that in order to remain on the top, well-established businessmen/women also get involved in these filthy antics & use them as shortcuts. I think at this point, they should also show that some men also contacted Parvez to seek help through his expertise because yes, it is a fact that most of the times women get involved in these things but then again, there are quite a lot of men too who choose this path to achieve what they want.

I really hope that Parvez’s friend who gave her father’s office to him can at least try to help Maham or Nusrat by telling that everything that they are facing right now is because of Parvez because she knows what he is capable of & she also knows that he is after Maham right from the beginning. I so wanted Shahista to tell Nusrat about Parvez but now that she’s out of the picture, the only hope I have is with this girl who can tell on Parvez & get him exposed. Another crucial development this week was Almas’s developing interest in the black magic where she asked Parvez to teach her everything he knows, I can’t even begin to imagine how much destruction Almas will bring when she will form ties with Parvez & they both will become a team!

Overall, these two episodes were interesting & all the developments were convincing. I really wish they maintain the pace that they have kept so far because with Nusrat going to Parvez’s place, I am dreading that things might become a little slow & they might take a lot of time in reaching to the point where Nusrat will find out about Almas & Parvez’s ugly reality & her worst fears will be confirmed. I really wish someone had told Azfar Rehman that he was acting for a Television drama & not a Stage drama/theater because the way he speaks doesn’t seem realistic. Sarah Khan & Ali Abbas have done a great job too & Sakina Samo is so so so convincing as bitter, complexed, complicated & twisted Almas. I can’t wait for the next set of episodes already. Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Nazr e Bad!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Comedian Syed Shafaat Ali will make his film debut with Parwaaz Hai Junoon

0

Shafaat Ali is a Pakistani comedian whose funny mimicking videos went viral on facebook and later all over the internet. He has been performing at corporate events and was also seen at the Karachi Literature festival.

Good news for all his fans because Ali is now making his movie debut in the upcoming Momina Duraid Production, Parwaaz Hai Junoon starring Hamza Ali Abbasi, Hania Aamir and Asif Raza Mir’s son and Ahad Raza Mir.

“I was initially approached to audition for a drama serial; however, the team at HUM found me to be quite fit for the character in the film and that’s when they told me that they had another project in mind for me,” he told Images over a telephonic conversation from the set of his film’s second spell at K2 and the Karakoram Highway.

Comedian Syed Shafaat Ali will make his film debut with Parwaaz Hai Junoon

“I have been offered films previously as well, but I never took them seriously since I never wanted to do a project that fails to leave an impact. Since Parwaaz Hai Junoon is being made in association with the Pakistani Air Force — who last made a film almost five decades ago — I knew I had to do this.”

While talking about his experience on set, he said:

“The entire cast and I have developed a great bond and everybody’s been extremely helpful to each other,” he revealed. “I’ve never been on a set which involves so much cardio and exercise and since all of us are actually living our characters, even off-screen, there’s been a major transformation for me. I’m really stretching my limits and I would really call it an adventurous project.”

On a concluding note, he revealed big plans for his comedy career:

“I want to take my comedy global, that’s what I’m focusing on currently since I’m touring different countries for shows. There hasn’t been an internationally acclaimed and viable comedian from Pakistan in recent times and I wish to break the ice.”

Mehwish Hayat Doesn’t Want To Play Damsel In Distress Any more!

Mehwish Hayat left an impression on us when she appeared in dramas like Mere Qatil Mere Dildar, Kabhi Kabhi, Dil Lagi and assured us that she is indeed a fine actor. Last year, Actor In-law boosted Mehwish’s career and she won over the audiences, be it fans, film critics or fellow actors. She has been nominated for Best Actress (TV – Dillagi) and Best Actress (Film – Actor in Law).

Back to Bahawalpur Madness! ❤️ #MissHayat #BahawalpurDiaries #PunjabNahiJaungi #longestSpell ?

A post shared by Mehwish Hayat (@mehwishhayatofficial) on

Something Haute got in touch with the lady and here’s the conversation.

There’s money as well as ratings in playing the damsel in distress or weeping willow. How have you resisted that road?

“It’s a conscious effort,” she replied. “I’ve done the damsel in distress enough times. I’ve done the tragic roles. Now I want to explore myself as an actress. I want to take on roles that empower women, strong characters. People need to know that these kinds of women also exist. They’re not evil because they have an opinion. They’re just strong women.”

The four recent and popular characters you’ve played – from Billi to Anmol, Marina and Meena Screwala – have all been exceptionally strong women. Will your character in PNJ be the same?

“Yes, I play a very confident girl in PNJ. She knows what she wants. She is fun-loving and very confident and yet she is family oriented even though she has studied abroad. She believes in family and the outside world has not effected her morals and values. She’s confident and understanding and compromising. There is magic in playing this kind of character.

I think I’m very motivated by my mother, who is such a strong woman; I am the way I am because of her. So this is who I am. She always spoke for her rights.”

Do you think people have people accepted you as this headstrong, badass girl?

“Yes, definitely. If you do anything with passion it becomes believable. I think they have. People forget the stories but they remember the characters. People remember the characters I played.”

Do you think women should accept roles that portray the female stereotype in society or should they challenge their characters?

“Most writers are happy to brainstorm. We all brainstorm and connect on a certain level. Once the director knows that you’re an intelligent person they will trust you. Nadeem discusses things and so did Feeza and Nabeel. It would be unfair to expect them to change the character but modification, yes. But actors must choose their roles carefully. I would want to do a project which gives me an equal opportunity. The girl should have equal screen time. So a director may not change the character but then I have the option to chose the right project that is good for me and that I believe in. You should do what you believe in.”

Is there any character that you wish you had done in a drama or film?

“I would have loved to do Salt, a Devil Wears Prada or Queen.”

Do you relate to Kangana Ranaut?

“She’s phenomenal. There’s no one like her and I would love to be known as someone as exceptionally good as her as well as being strong. She’s a fighter and a winner.”

“Our sound cloud page has over 10000 followers  and every week there are about 100000 plays of our tracks, of all these, more than half are from international audiences including the UK, US and Europe,” said Khumariyaan.
“We enjoy being considered an indigenous act as well as a world music band. The ultimate aim is to keep our sound true to our style and be categorised in both, the world music genre as well as a band that performs ethnic music.”
Khumariyaan revealed their plans for the UK debut:
“The aim is to keep things simple because it is our debut in the country and we want to stay true to our sound as much as possible, having said that, a couple more tracks that we think would really compliment an international set will be added. It will be a mix of both, after all experimentation and evolution is always happening and that is how we make our music.”
“It’s a festival we have attended since its very first year, and because we’ve seen it grow, we feel a strong affinity with it. We can’t wait to bring a bit of Peshawar to London!”

More power to Khumariyaan for making Pakistan proud abroad!

Aamir Zaki is supportive of upcoming musical talent

0

Aamir Zaki aims to help and be a mentor to upcoming and young musicians.

There is a new platform for fresh talent called “Sing with Aqeel”, the show will be launched from dingy studio in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. And Aamir has this to say about it to the Express Tribune:

“It’s a good cause,In fact I am itching to do it yaar. I saw this girl perform the other day and she was great. So I feel it’s my duty to support them, if we don’t then who will.”
Upon being asked if Pakistan have enough platforms where the new can learn from the seasoned?
“Not enough. I think even for the pros there aren’t enough platforms in Pakistan,” he smirks, and the statement is followed by an awkward silence. “You know I come from a time when there used to be a lot of bands and performances so the current scenario is obviously going to seem very dry to me.”
The name of the show comes from its founder, Aqeel Ahmed Khan who forayed into the music industry in 1994. He started off as a session player and later on ventured into production with the music of Bankay Miyan Ki Qawalli and some seminal works of Faakhir and Rahim Shah under his belt.

“I just want to give a platform to the unprivileged music talent of Pakistan,” Aqeel tells The Express Tribune. “Two ventures, namely Nescafé Basement and Coke Studio are not enough to cater to a population of 200 million people out of which at least a million are potential stars.”

“You need to be part of a certain clout to make it there; you have to be a sellable product other than being talented”, added Aqeel.

“I admire Aqeel as a person and a musician and everyone he has taken on board deserves to be there, says Zaki.

The show will launch its first episode this Friday from the group’s facebook page and will then turn into a weekly affair.

Meesha Shafi reveals how yoga helped her

0

Famous singer and actress, Meesha Shafi wrote for Images, Dawn recently and revealed how yoga changed her life.

While talking about how her journey began, she said:

“Two years ago, I began yoga and I often find myself sitting in a cross- legged, lotus position with my hands on my knees, palms facing upwards, trying to focus on being upright, silent and mindful of the present, both figuratively and physically while struggling with an avalanche of thoughts that clutter my head”.

Meesha also shared her routine with the readers:

“My daily practice begins with about 15 to 20 minutes of varied forms of deep breathing and meditation. On a good day, I would be good doing this for about five seconds. No kidding. But almost right away, I would find myself battling with relentless clutter flying into my headspace. Imagine ninja stars, with cut-throat blades, razor sharp and honed, well-experienced at invading my mind with to-do lists, grudges, unspoken anger or anxiety about upcoming tasks.”

“Regrets spun around and flew at me with the speed of lightening, reminding me of creative juices that I forgot to bottle up for some eventual, higher purpose. Interesting to note that the following 30 to 40 minutes of splits, squats, spinal bends, inversions and near-impossible stretches were way less daunting.”

“It wasn’t until my amazing teacher gave me a firm yet gentle nudge to start attempting the whole hour from beginning to end, that I started to really understand what meditation means. According to him, I should try and reject my thoughts. In other words, dodge those ninja stars like Bruce Lee, until they gave up. And I did overpower them. Not by blocking or resisting their entry into my mind, because what you resist surely persists, but by letting them enter with the ease and pleasant sensation of a cool breeze passing through, uninvited may they be. So the aim is to let them move in and move on. Sure they can penetrate my consciousness, but are not invited to stay”.

Muqabil Episode 15 Review – Captivating Performances

This episode of Muqabil focused entirely on Arman and Pareesa’s track. The new OST of the drama compliments the new direction which the story has taken. This new start however is not free from complications and these tricky situations have been handled brilliantly by the writer, director and both the actors involved. The friendship between Arman and Pareesa coupled with their beautiful personalities makes their relationship one of a kind. For the first time we are watching a rape survivor trying her best to have a healthy relationship based on mutual trust and respect with a man not because she does not have a choice but due to the connection and love she feels for that man. Arman’s character is just plain adorable! He is the kind of man who believes in loving unconditionally and only such a man could have played the role he is playing in Pareesa’s life. I absolutely love the fact that Arman has been shown as a practical person who gradually ended up falling in love with Pareesa and not someone who fell in love with her the second he laid his eyes on her. There was a time when Arman’s career came before everything else and he did not even want to get married but tonight the viewers saw him focusing on his marriage alone because especially ever since he found out what happened with Pareesa his sole concern is his wife’s well being. He wants to make sure that he dedicates all his energy into making this marriage work even though right now Pareesa and Arman have a long way to go.

Pareesa’s character is also etched-out brilliantly. It has been a long time since she had a “normal” relationship with anyone around her. She was always closer to her plants than she was with people. Even though Pareesa and Arman have a long way to go but Pareesa has never been shown making this much effort to make a relationship work. Pareesa and Arman’s scenes together were very well put together in this episode; they were practical hence relatable. There weren’t a lot of cheesy dialogues which conveyed their feelings for each other but their actions showed that both of them wanted to make this relationship last. Pareesa wants Mahmood sahab out of her life for good although it is impossible. I am certain that I am not the only one who is wondering if Arman will ever find out who violated Pareesa. Mohsin Abbas Haider and Kubra Khan’s exceptional performances and their sizzling on screen chemistry has definitely taken this drama to the next level.

Muqabil Episode 15 Review - Captivating Performances

This episode just like this drama as a whole so far was exceptional and it ended too soon! My favorite scene from tonight’s episode was the one in which Arman tried to reason out with his mother and sister! The dialogues were right on point, the camera angles and everyone’s acting made this scene impactful. For the first time it seemed like Zubeida understood his son. The director Ali Hassan deserves special credit and appreciation for paying attention to every minute detail because of which not only are all the scenes convincing but also a treat to watch. Muqabil continues to be one of those very few dramas I look forward to watching all week and it always delivers.

The preview of the next episode was quite confusing. Personally, I like such previews which leave a lot to the viewer’s imagination and keep us guessing.

How many of you watched this latest episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Zhalay Sarhadi talks about Chalay Thay Saath and more

0

Zhalay Sarhadi is a famous and talented Pakistani actress. The woman who starred in the movie Jalaibee is now all set for her another movie, Chalay Thay Saath alongside Syra Shehroz, Kent S Leung and Faris Khalid.

Between Jalaibee and Chalay Thay Saath, I’ve rejected nine films,” Sarhadi told The Express Tribune.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BRU9i2mDXCW/?taken-by=zhalay

“I want to explore my acting skills and talent and most of the roles offered to me were very much inspired from Bollywood.”

“It was the most original script that had come my way so far. Chalay Thay Saath is fresh, youthful and energetic.”

She plays the character of Alina in the movie. While talking about her character, she said:

“Alina is someone who has seen setbacks in life. So, she takes a break and sets out to find herself through a trip to Hunza, and then she meets Faraz (Khalid’s character). Hers is a very cathartic journey. She is stepping back and reflecting on her life.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BRYlxlxjemW/

While talking about her experience with the filming, she said:

“It was an amazing experience. Mansha Pasha is one of my best friends and we were already planning to embark on a trip up north. So, the film provided us with that opportunity. And then, of course, it’s great when the team, especially the director, you work with has done their homework and know what they want. That’s why it was a lot of fun working on the film.”

She is also working on three other film projects:

“All I can say at the moment is they will be very different from Alina.” Sarhadi has acting in her blood, with her family, including her uncle Khayyam Sarhadi and grandfather Zia Sarhadi who were also involved in the entertainment industry of their eras. But for her, joining the industry was not the matter of carrying on the family legacy.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BRlEdrSj5yU/

“It’s about my personal gratification. I always knew I would go on to work in the industry. Of course, it was relatively easy for me because this business was already in the family. Not that I have a chip on my shoulder, but I just want to do things and enjoy working.” she said.

While commenting on television factors now coming in films, she says:

“Of course, every industry needs fresh new faces at one point. But when you’re working anyway, I believe an actor should deliver the performance with full conviction.”
