Khuda Dekh Raha Hai – Episode 06!

Ohkay so, it was another week, another interesting & happening episode of Khuda Dekh Raha Hai. I really like how the story of this drama is progressing smoothly with a perfect pace to keep the interest of the viewers intact. There are still so many questions that we’re seeking answers of but I like how they are revealing a few cards at a time which actually make me look forward to the next episode every single time.

I really must say I hate Moeez for being such a hypocrite. Firstly, if he really can’t stand the idea of Zoya attending a concert, then he should have the same issue with Sanam for going to Junaid’s concerts as well because she was the one who informed him about Zoya’s presence, so when Moeez can create a havoc over such a thing then he should have similar standards when it comes to his fiancée. I just never thought that he would be so selfish to put Sanam ahead of Zoya. Apparently, his choice of getting married to the one he loves isn’t something to be questioned about but in Zoya’s case, according to him she should be ashamed? Moeez never really cared that Zoya was defaming his family or something but he blew it all out of proportion just so that he can later infuse the idea of Zoya’s marriage to Adnan. Another thing that really caught me off guard was that Moeez has so much acceptance to whatever Sanam does just because he has gotten used to the idea of her being a liberal, modern & independent woman but when it comes to Zoya, he couldn’t even tolerate the fact that she can also like someone & can choose her life partner herself just because she comes from a simple background & hasn’t been raised like Sanam to be independent & liberal? It’s like he wants his sister to sacrifice her happiness just because she isn’t modern enough & in that case she isn’t entitled to making some choices for herself.

I really don’t like Sanam as well, yes, we all understood the thing about her that she was selfish & dominating but just for the sake of her own benefit, she is ready to spoil Zoya’s life? She knows her brother inside out & he is not an ideal match for any girl but just because she thinks Zoya’s a simple girl, she will put up with all the wrongdoings of Adnan? I must say I hated the idea of Moeez being so blind that he himself saw how unsober Adnan was but he chose to ‘ignore’ it just because he happens to be Sanam’s brother? I am sure the way Sanam has him wrapped around her finger, Moeez himself will suffer a lot after his marriage to her because she knows how to get what she wants & Moeez for now is unable to see how she’s plays with him because he is too blinded by his one-sided unconditional love.

To be honest, I feel Junaid’s friend gets a lot of coverage in every single episode. His scenes are boring & unnecessarily long & his conversations are repetitive to the core. Yes, we all get that he is Junaid’s well-wisher & tries to show him the other side of the picture too but bhai sahab when you already know that your friend has pretty much made up his mind then why don’t you try to mind your own business? He’s a pessimist & I hope his scenes along with his role are cut short in the episodes to come.

To be honest, for the first time I liked the motherly instincts in Khalida. As much as she was shocked at what Zoya did, she ended up understanding her point of view, she considered what her daughter wanted & she also agreed to her husband because she knew he made a lot more sense & outdid all her arguments that she had against Zoya & Junaid’s relation. I have always felt that no matter how unreasonable Khalida might be, she is easy to trick & convince. I really can’t emphasize on how much I like Akhtar’s character; he is an ideal father who knows how to be friends with his children. Moeez is least bothered about his parents & he only maintains his terms with his mother because he knows that eventually she ends up controlling everything that happens in the house & she listens to him plus Moeez also knows that his father doesn’t have much say as Khalida hasn’t given him the edge that normally a husband has when it comes to these matters. I really loved Akhtar’s relation & connectivity with Zoya & how he supported her & I must say all his dialogues are well-written because every time I feel he ends up saying what’s going through our minds.

Khalida is pretty much engrossed in what she does but I am still eager to know what’s the story behind her becoming the way she is now. Khalida also hinted that she wouldn’t allow Zoya to do what she herself has done in her past. I am sure Khalida pretty much understand what it means to love someone & how much one wants to be with the one they love. I actually enjoyed the mother-daughter scenes that Khalida & Zoya shared in this episode. This drama is getting a lot more interesting & I so hope that the pace stays the same. Please share your thoughts about this episode & the drama in general. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Geo Kahani’s success secret

Geo Kahani as the most watched entertainment channel in a designated time period (16th – 18th) in the month of March came as a surprise. For me the surprise element was the channel itself. Geo Kahani is considered a second tier channel of Geo Media house, where Geo TV itself is the leading first tier channel. All the three entertainment media houses (ARY, Geo and Hum) of Pakistan have a first tier channel reserved for their premier programming i.e. ARY Digital for ARY, Geo TV for Geo and Hum Tv. All these media houses also have a second tier entertainment channel reserved mainly for foreign content  i.e ARY Zindagi for ARY, Geo Kahani for Geo and Hum Sitaray for Hum Tv. So the standing of Geo Kahani in itself raises many question over the Pakistani drama themes. The television audience which determine the television rating in Pakistan are preferring Indian dramas over Pakistani dramas.

Now Geo Kahani itself has answered the million dollar question that how it achieved such high TRP. As per the press report of Daily Jang (The print media division) the main factor is none other than the theme of mazloom aurat (oppressed woman).

The press report says, the characters of oppressed women (mazloom aurat) have helped Geo Kahani in achieving this standing. The characters of Sareeta (Dusri Shaadi), Jodha (Jodha Akbar), Pragya (Kum Kum Baghiya), Arri (Doli Armanon Ki), Sheharzaad (Sheharzaad) are powerful depiction of an oppressed woman (mazloom aurat). In this man made world, these female characters which are oppressed by their male counterpart are ruling the hearts of the television audience and are thus getting huge TRP’s. The audience of Geo Kahani feels connected to these characters as their stories resembles what they them-self witness in their surroundings.

Here is the reference press release published in Daily Jang on 26th March 2015.

dil2

Surprisingly none of the dramas/characters mentioned in the press report is a Pakistani drama. Many among us complain about the overdose of Mazloom Aurat stories in Pakistani dramas, but the case of Geo Kahani proves that even the foreign dramas rely heavily on the same formula. The television audience which determine the TRP of entertainment channels are fond of watching Mazloom Aurat based story be it a Pakistani drama or a foreign drama. Means the trend of Mazloom Aurat based dramas is not going to end in the near future as entertainment industry follows the rule of supply and demand. Jo Dikhta Hai Woh Bikta Hai, Whatever is in demand, results in the increase in the supply and the Mazloom Aurat theme is surely in demand.

Ban gayi hai anaa ajizi

Noor Fatima’s conversation with Bareera made Bareera realize what she had done to herself. Woh buhat shikasta, buhat bikhri bikhri thhi. Noor Fatima realized her pain as well. Being the good soul she is, she decided to solve Bareera’s problems.

On the breakfast table, Bareera told Omair that she had never realized that Mus’haf, the guy who proposed her at university, would be the owner of such a large group of industries. That’s when Omair got to know that his business rival is the same person he bullied in university life.

Fullscreen capture 3252015 110031 PM

Before I progress further, let me just say than you to the makeup people for not making Bareera a gola ganda anymore. She looks much prettier now than she looked before with loads of makeup on her face.

Finally, Noor Fatima’s mother made a presence as well. She’s going to Germany (I have no idea with whom). She told that back in the village, Imran’s second wife has made his parents’ a living hell and asked Noor Fatima to forgive them.

Fullscreen capture 3252015 110722 PM

Mus’haf’s reaction at finding out about Omair coming to meet him was simply cute. Ya Allah, Kahin mein takabbur ya khud pasandi ka shikar tou nahi horaha? He always makes sure that he isn’t indulging in ignorance. Even after reaching the heights of success, he is tha same Mus’haf. Not overconfident at all.

Fullscreen capture 3252015 111252 PM

Bareera and Mus’haf’s meeting was nicely executed. Mus’haf’s reaction after seeing her was nailed by Affan Waheed and Areej Fatima obviously did well.

Fullscreen capture 3252015 112922 PM

Mus’haf is connected to Bareera, and that is the reason he always ends up saving her. When Farhan tried to molest her and Bareera ran outside, Mus’haf’s arrival was a miracle. The dialogue between them was touching:

Bareera: Mein khabees aurat hun, iss liye mujhe khabees mard mila hai!

Mus’haf: Aagar aap buri hoteen tou Allah aaj aap ko kyun bachata?

After dropping Bareera off at her place,  Mus’haf came back home. On Noor Fatima’s inquiry about where he had been, he didn’t tell her about Bareera. I was surprised. Noor Fatima goes on and on about Bareera. She’s the last person on earth to be jealous and I’m sure she would’ve rejoiced knowing that her hubby saved Bareera.

The next morning, Mus’haf headed to the beach, and sat on a bench, while thinking about Bareera. It was kinda weird, a married man thinking about another woman. I could’ve been infuriated at once, but hasn’t Mus’haf proved himself to be an amazing husband time and again? He has happily fulfilled his responsibilities as a husband and father. Bareera was his first love. Even if he tries, he can’t forget her. Despite that, he has been loyal to Noor Fatima all these years. Don’t get me wrong here, dreaming about another woman is totally wrong, but here, we have a man who isn’t dreaming about another woman to cheat on his wife. Mus’haf saw Bareera after several years, and the feelings came running back. He had no intention of cheating on his wife.

Mus’haf and Omair’s meeting was also well executed.

Omair: Mein Omair Ahmed hun, Salman group of industries ka maalik. Naam tou suna hoga?

Mus’haf: Ji nahi.

Omair: Acha? Koi gumnaam company nahi hai meri. Aur tum tou jaante ho mujhe, bari purani shanasai hai tumhari mujh se bhi, aur … (clears throat) Bareera se bhi.

Fullscreen capture 3252015 115838 PM

Mus’haf’s replies were not less interesting. I loved how he completely shot down Omair by telling him that he only works with honest people and does not involve in partnerships.  Omair stooped low to his real self rather quickly.

Aaj bhi meri biwi ko dekh kar aahein bharte ho?

This time, Mus’haf did not show any patience towards him. He kicked him out.

Meanwhile, Bareera tried to kill herself (because of a fight she had with Omair).

Fullscreen capture 3252015 115256 PM

Her maid saved her by taking her to the hospital on time. Bareera had no desire of staying alive. Omair couldn’t care less. Pagal karke rakh diya hai iss pagal aurat ne mujhe! But for the sake of haazri, he went to the hospital to see her.

Once again, fate intervened. Noor Fatima came to see the doctor, and spotted Bareera’s maid there, who took her to Bareera and Noor Fatima knew in that moment, that she can save Bareera.

Noor Fatima: Agar yeh gunaah tum se sarzad hojata, tou pichle saare gunahon ki taubah karne ka mouqa kho deteen tum.

Bareera: Mein jeena nahi chahti. Nahi chahiye mujhe yeh daulat, yeh shauhar.

Noor Fatima: Meri taraf dekho, mujhe tou zindagi se nafrat nahi hai.

Bareera: Tumhe kyun hogi? Sab kuch hai tumhare paas….

Noor Fatima: Al-Hamdu-Lillah, sab kuch hai mere paas, lekin waqt nahi.

And then we got to know that Noor Fatima is suffering from cancer. She was diagnosed with it after three years of marriage, when her son was 1 years old. She told that after finding this out, she cried and protested, but then she found relief through religion. (Plus now we know why she wears those scarves all the time)

Jab tum theek hojao, tou mere paas ana. Mein tumhe bataun gi ke zindagi mein sukoon aur itmenaan kaise laya jata hai.

When she came back home, Mus’haf was at home waiting for her. She told him about her conversation with Bareera. She said that Bareera wished to be dead, but was saved. On the other hand, Noor Fatima wanted to live, but had no time left. Later, when Mus’haf was shown standing at his office window, thinking about how he could not save his wife, with all of his money, I was convinced that he is still loyal to Noor Fatima.

Alvida – Episode 7

Farisa’s loyalties completely changed after witnessing first hand just how rich Haadi’s father actually is! Haadi has gone from being Haadi Bhai to Haadi, something which Saim noticed right away. Farisa is willing to skip her semester and has “camped” at Haadi’s house because she can see that there is a way for her to make a place in that house. I must say that I am surprised that Farisa did not think on these lines instantly after Aroosa’s death. We saw Aroosa getting annoyed with the responsibility of taking care of the baby in the last episode and it was only after operating the locker that she decided that she had to get married to Haadi in order to have the “bright” future she always dreamed of. Haya was the biggest hurdle in her way after Aroosa’s death and now that she is not around this was a perfect opportunity for Farisa to make her way into Haadi’s house, Farisa always knew just how rich Haadi’s father was therefore I am surprised that the idea only clicked with her when she opened the locker. It was good to see Haadi’s mother volunteering to take care of the baby because she realized that Farisa had to give her attention to her studies. Farisa does not want to wait for Saim to get rich especially now when she knows that Haadi is “available” and the opportunity couldn’t have been more perfect.

alvidaThis drama shows what a big part fate plays in our lives and I find the turn of events especially in Haadi and Farisa’s lives quite convincing as well. Haya’s track was much more interesting in tonight’s episode but I must admit that I am finding it awfully hard to believe that Haya’s Taya is okay with Haya being away from home for so long without any trace. I understand that the situation is not in his control but the fact that he is not worrying sick about Haya is very hard to digest. I wish we would have seen him showing his concern about Haya for a few seconds in every episode to make the situation more relatable. Haadi’s feelings on the other hand are easy to relate to. He missed Haya and is desperate to find her but he is unlucky because he has started trusting Farisa. Haadi thinks that Farisa will help him find Haya and Haya thinks that Farisa wants nothing but the best for her. The fact that Farisa did not even inform Haya about Aroosa’s death went to show just how desperate and selfish she is. Is Haya really living with one of her distant relatives or did she just say that to Ramiz because she didn’t want to tell him that she is living in the hostel? The way Ramiz and Haya’s track has been covered is very convincing. Haya is gradually warming up to Ramiz and Ramiz seems like someone who will not give up easily. Ramiz’s dialogue ” you’re the first and I also hope you’re the last ” went to show that he wants a future with Haya but it seems most unlikely at the moment. Haya’s loneliness however will probably be the main reason for her to get closer to Ramiz. The scene at the office when Haya’s reacts after checking her result online was one of my favorite scenes from tonight’s episode. Haya was in a situation where she needed to share her happiness with someone and Ramiz knew that only too well. Whatever information we got about Ramiz’s family tonight showed that Haya has much in common with him, both of them did not really have a real family to call their own – or at least they thought so. Haya’s guilt pangs and memories of time spent with Haadi were a very good addition to tonight’s episode as well.

alvida

The way Haadi reacted to Farisa’s declaration of love was also shown really well; I would give full marks to all the people involved for making all these scenes a complete success – the writer, director and the actors. Also, the manner in which Haadi showed his indifference towards whatever Farisa said to Saim showed he just did not care about Farisa at all. The conversation afterwards in which Farisa asks him to talk to him because she did not have anyone to talk was very nicely written too; it reflected Farisa’s desperation and Haadi’s lack of interest really well.

I love the way the director has used white to enhance the beauty of different scenes. The white flowers and candles stood out on the night of Aroosa and Haadi’s wedding and tonight too they looked beautiful in the scene when Saim visits Farisa.

I must say that Sara Khan has come a long way, she was absolutely flawless as Farisa today. Imran Abbas and Sanam Jung have been brilliant throughout the drama too therefore I am expecting nothing but the best from them. Zahid Ahmed has portrayed Ramiz’s character really well, it would have been so much better if we didn’t know what was coming ahead because so far Ramiz comes across as a nice person. I must give the director credit for keeping the scenes short and to the point and I have to say that until now the script has been written very well too. I thoroughly enjoyed all the conversations in tonight’s episode, they made me relate to the situations and the characters. I just wish that Haya’s Taya would worry about her more often!

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Diyar-e-Dil – Episode 02!

…& the awesomeness prevails. I absolutely enjoyed this brilliant episode which was coupled with some power-packed performances & emotional scenes. I am so glad that without wasting a lot of time they progressed the story at a perfect pace & it feels like we’re already through a lot of happenings & I already can’t wait to see what’s more in store for us.

Whatever happened was actually quite foreseeable. Behroz understood that Agha Jee would never allow him to get married to Ruhina, so he decided to let Bedaar Khan know what was going through his mind. Even though Behroz knew that his decision won’t be respected by Bakhtiyaar, what he didn’t know was that his own father will wage a war against him. The way Agha Jee reacted in result to Behroz’s decision went to show that going against his wish was not an option for anyone in that family because Bakhtiyaar wants what he wants & when he doesn’t get it, without a further a due he leaves no room for redemption. Arjumand means a lot to Bakhtiyaar but what matters to him the most is his word of honour & he just couldn’t accept that his own son wasn’t ready to oblige. Bakhtiyaar actually underestimated Behroz when he didn’t take his stance seriously because he didn’t know that Behroz had made up his mind & he wasn’t going to budge at all – he loves Ruhina & he would do anything to be with her.

Coll 1

I absolutely love the relationship both Behroz & Suhaib share & their parting scene was so very emotional. Suhaib tried to stop Behroz from leaving by doing & saying everything that he could but more than Behroz’d listen to his brother, he wanted to show Bakhtiyaar that he would not let him rule his life & he wasn’t going to bear the burden of his decisions anymore because he was done with being his stooge.

Even though for Bakhtiyaar, there was a glimmer of hope that Behroz might return, he still decided that he wanted to move on & find ways of damage control because he didn’t want to become the talk of the town as everyone knew the finalized date & time of Arjumand & Behroz’s Nikkah. It was quite expected of Bakhtiyaar to approach Suhaib & order him to get married to Arjumand. Yes, Bakhtiyaar is unreasonable but then that’s who he is, he has gotten immune to controlling people in his life, he is used to seeing people follow his orders & this is exactly why instead of asking Suhaib his thoughts on this matter, he, on his own decided that Suhaib will take charge of the situation & will get married to Arjumand. What Laila & Suhaib said to each other didn’t come off as a surprise because their chemistry & candidness was too obvious the moment they both shared the space. Laila has already fallen for Suhaib & so has he but unlike Behroz, he cares for his father, his father’s pride & his father’s dignity a lot & because of that he already knows that he is in no position to question Bakhtiyaar’s choices.

Coll 2

While watching this episode I just couldn’t stop wondering how peaceful things would’ve been if Tara Mehmood’s character wasn’t made so typical or in fact wasn’t made a part of this whole drama to begin with? Yes, she is Ruhina’s bhabhi & we all know that but why is she so typical? Her ways with twisting words & situations was the only black spot on this otherwise perfect episode. I liked the conversation between Ruhina & Behroz because there was nothing but honesty. Behroz has left everything & now it was time for Ruhina to stand by him & she actually made sure to let him know that she will stand by him because even for a moment she didn’t hold back in voicing out her thoughts in front of Muzammil & Zohra. What Muzammil said was also true because being Ruhina’s brother he naturally has inhibitions about Behroz & his proposal but I am sure he won’t be able to resist for too long because both Behroz & Ruhina are going to stand by each other. Even though once again we didn’t get to see much of Ruhina’s character, I have suddenly developed a liking for her because of the way she projected herself, she knows she loves Behroz & that is why whatever he said didn’t shake her for a second as for her, nothing else matters anymore & that made me like her a lot.

So, this was it from this week’s episode of Diyar-e-Dil. I absolutely love the way all these actors are performing in this serial. Mikaal has been able to convey the emotions of Behroz perfectly & Ali Rehman has done so well as a submissive son. I must say Sanam Saeed looked beautiful & the whole ethnic look suits her even more & her acting is obviously the perk of watching her on screen & Hareem Farooqi has acted effortlessly as well. Even though this episode had a lot of intense scenes, they all were perfectly handled where nothing was overdone. I am glad that the director has put in a lot of work & attention to detail like the furnishing in Ruhina’s home aptly shed a light on the era the story for now is showcasing & similarly the mention of cheque book also hit the mark. To be honest, even though Arjumand was down & depressed like we all expected her to be, I was happy to see her retaliating against Agha Jee’s decision because no matter how much she wanted to get married to Behroz, she actually informed her family that she wasn’t so eager to get married that she’d settle for anyone just like that. I can’t emphasize enough on how these scenic locations have contributed in making this drama a visual treat, the moment you tune to the episodes of Diyar-e-Dil; it takes you to the world of its own. This episode was more like a rollercoaster ride of emotions because where you actually understand the rigidity of Bakhtiyaar, you feel for Suhaib & Behroz too. Even though Behroz might seem stubborn, you actually understand where he’s coming from as he is done with pleasing his father & now he has taken a stand for the most important thing in his life. I love the characterization & more importantly I like the depth with which all these characters have been written & etched out. I absolutely enjoyed watching the second episode of Diyar-e-Dil & please let me know your thoughts as well. :)

Salahuddin Tunio Awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz

0

The government of Pakistan awards Sitara-i-Imtiaz to those people who have done something extraordinary in any field at all which has led to making a difference in that particular field. Salahuddin Tunio was always a very powerful actor who was seen in many popular dramas of the past but it took him a lot of years to work hard enough to win this repetitious medal. He started his acting career with Sindhi dramas but soon he made his mark on National TV as well. After taking a break from television Salahuddin Tunio made an impressive entry back into television few years ago.

1

Fahad Mustafa proved that he had inherited a lot of talent from his father. Fahad Mustafa expressed his happiness over his father winning the award. Many people congratulated the seasoned actor and thought that the award was well deserved.

ONE STEP FORWARD! NOW ONE MAN AND FOUR WOMEN

While most of our writers are still stuck in 2nd wife obsession, some of them decided to move ahead. Hence there are now four women against one man isn’t that amazing. Now you may want to close your eyes or simply don’t want to listen but for your kind information these people have now arrived in industry.

Marital problems, “ghareeb larki ki badnaami” and sister in law and mother in law rivalry had always remained a spot light issue from our drama writers but that inclusion of dosri biwi stuff was surely a new tactic to gain viewership.

download (2)

While our eyes continue to burn, the producers and writers are moving one step forward and soon we will be going to watch 4 wives. ARY had taken this bold step already by airing Rang Laaga drama every Wednesday at 8.00 pm. I was watching “har Lamha purjosh” on ARY News, a world cup special program being hosted by Umar Sharif and Neelum Muneer was invited as a guest. She told viewers that in this drama Faisal Qureshi will have four wives. Seriously as if we hadn’t enough from two wives torture.

download

There is also a soap currently being on-aired on HUM-TV called “Chohti si ghalat fehmi” in which four women are somehow connected to one middle aged man. The main lead is being played by Sajid Hasan and four ladies are Nausheen Shah, Zhalay Sarhadi, Nimra Khan and Sabreen Hisbani. Would you believe it!

csgf1

The increasing number of female characters against one male character gives me an impression that there are too many actresses in the industry now and directors and producers are trying to adjust them all. Today dramas are mostly female dominated but the story of these dramas reflect that women still rely on men and every woman wants a man that is already married. I mean where are those plays which used to give woman a motivation to be strong, independent and impulsive.

It’s a high time for our writers to rework on their strategies and bring something exciting on screen otherwise leave writing. Surely we don’t need stories where four women are dying out for one man.

What do you guys have to say on it?

Zidd – Episode 12 & 13!

0

OMG! This drama is so annoying that it’s not even funny. All the characters are either half or fully mad because what they say & what they do doesn’t really make any sense anymore. No wonder why this animal filled Zid-Zoo was shifted to a 9PM slot on Sundays because that’s the exact time when people are struggling to fall asleep to begin their week with a fresh mind & this drama is a perfect yawn provoker so I think HUM TV is actually doing a favour to its viewers here by helping them going to bed with much ease, so we should thank them for it.

Everyone in this drama certainly needs a life. I just don’t understand why Saman is so much into Zainab? I mean it’s just so odd. Apparently she says she feels a lot for her & has garnered affection for her but then I mean is Zainab so important for Sanam that she is even ready to get beaten up by Zainab’s a half human half chicken of a husband? Like Zainab got married to a junky of the year who himself doesn’t know whether he’s a human being or a chicken or a puppy & Saman seems pretty comfortable in that zoo of an apartment? The way Saman has been acting lately is just so unlike her because she was the one who always used to ignore & run away from each & every person who said something that she didn’t agree with. She left her parents & cut all ties with her family, then she left Omar’s house because she didn’t like the way he imposed himself on her, then she left Qasim’s place because he also rubbed the reality on her face & now she is ready to put up with everything she comes across while staying at Zainab’s place? Also, whatever Saman says to Zainab is just so ridiculous because firstly, no matter how much Sanam hates Micheal, he is Zainab’s husband & did she really think that Zainab would leave her due to Saman’s incessant nagging? As far as I remember whenever Saman was told to talk Rukhi out of marrying David, she always stood by Rukhi’s side because she believed that everyone was entitled to making their own decisions, so similarly why doesn’t she understand that Zainab is entitled to do the exact same thing as well? Why Saman does really have to bother about what Zainab does? To be honest, I was happy & relieved to see that the character of Micheal died a chicken ki maut because it was getting so hard to tolerate him on screen, I mean as if Zainab wasn’t enough to annoy us that her lunatic husband was also introduced!

Honestly speaking, if the writer really thinks that she’ll be able to make us feel for these mentally incapacitated & challenged characters then she’s highly mistaken because people feel sympathy for those who are sane & are suffering from some sort of crisis but here, these people are brain-free to begin with, so it just doesn’t matter what happens to them or what they go through because by the end of the day they all don’t really matter & oh! Who’s the person responsible for sound effects of this drama because may I ask what’s up with that annoying dhuzz dhuzz sound effect at every minute expression of Saman? She’s the one who’s responsible for ruining her life so why are they trying to make it sound like every single time there’s an asmaan that tooto-fies on her head? Sorry she isn’t a bechari & she doesn’t deserve our sympathies so please stop using these dramatic or sad sound effects to enforce something which they all don’t deserve. I just can’t tolerate how they go on a sad song spree after every single conversation or by the end of every scene because hello, this drama should have some comical sound effects because it’s now coming across as a sitcom & not a serious drama & if you don’t believe me then have a look at Zainab who has the nerves to wear a pink clip on her head!?!?! Well, I must commend Nosheen Shah for actually doing this to herself because it takes a lot of guts to look like ‘that’ on screen!

Coll

Accha, I mean if Rukhi loved her father soooooooooo sooooooooooo soooooooooooooooooooooo much then can you please tell why did she get married in the first place? What’s the role of David in her life when she was living such a fulfilling life with her father? Ever since she has gotten married, all she has cared about is what her father says & what he does, so when she was such a daddy’s girl why did she decide to become someone’s life partner? I am so annoyed at the way Qasim’s attitude fluctuates because he’s giving a tough competition to a coin that flips within microseconds. Also, can someone tell me why is he still stuck up on Saman & blames her for ruining Rukhi’s life because if we take a good look at his age, he should be mature enough to gracefully accept that he’s the one who failed in teaching his daughter the difference between a right & a wrong but very conveniently he puts all the blame on Saman whom Rukhi has just met probably a few weeks ago! In this particular episode Qasim actually made me question his brains too because where at one moment he seemed to be enjoying Rukhi’s company, the next he was seen throwing a hissy fit, where at one point he blames Saman for what Rukhi has put him up with, the next moment he tells the same girl; Saman to knock some sense into his daughter, like seriously? I mean, Qasim Uncle appka deemaghi tawazzun theek hai na?

Is it just me or the conversations between Saman & Rukhi really never make any sense? Rukhi seems like such a typical girl who takes her kitaabi louuuu stories so seriously because every dialogue she speaks starts with the word ‘mohabbat’ & ends with the exact same word too? I mean mohabbat se itniiii fixation??? Ohkay if she is in love & she loves being in love then why is she still so incomplete & unhappy even after she has found her one true love? Plus Rukhi poses to be very smart & sharp so when she knows that Saman was abused by Micheal, why didn’t she tell each & everything to Omar because she seems pretty close to him as well? She knows that Zainab’s not a good person & her company isn’t great either, she keeps on throwing some hints in front of Omar about how Saman’s not safe, so why doesn’t she opt for transparency & tell him the truth straight out? What’s she waiting for?

Accha any idea about where Saman’s parents are? I mean when the parents marry away their daughters in abroad, they put in an extra effort to keep a check on how well their daughter’s been doing but there’s not even a single phone call from them? Plus I don’t understand when Saman is earning some bucks, why doesn’t she move to some safer & secure place that’ll provide her the peace of mind that she’s been looking for? She herself chooses to stay in a zoo which is so unlike her & oh when she got beaten up by Micheal, I actually couldn’t stop laughing because the acting & the dialogues; both were hilarious & didn’t stir the emotion of sympathy that the drama-making team was fishing for. Anyways, the preview of the next episode seemed twisted & annoying too. I still don’t understand what the writer here is trying to tell us. Share your thoughts if you’ve deciphered the mystery. ;)

Kis Se Kahoon_ The end

0

The show that gave its viewers many messages to remember, ended today.

Last 3 episodes had a lot happening and I liked the way the story was brought towards its end. Asfand and Salma came closer as Salma picked herself up and discovered her hidden talent, painting. Asfand’s feelings were written all over his face, and even if he hadn’t confessed his love for her, we’d have understood. What I don’t get is, that why did he fall for Salma? Ever since Salma became normal again, her dialogue delivery has been slower than ever. Like, really really slow. All she talked about was her bure haalaat and I was forced to wonder if Asfand’s feelings were out of mercy? I really wish that it was clearer for the viewers to understand why he fell for her. I think that Salma’s decision of “waiting for the right time” was right. She has a lot to do for herself and her family, and she can do it while being independent. Nevertheless, I felt for Asfand.

For a newcomer, Essa Chauhdry has acted pretty well. He fits right into the role of the aspiring artist and romeo.

Things in Hadiqa’s life were going great, but Fahad was going to pay for his actions. His own sister Shaiqa fell into someone’s trap. Faisal was the brother of Najma, another girl whom Fahad had ruined. He wanted revenge, thus he fooled Shaiqa into loving him and recorded a video of them together. He threatened her, that unless Fahad apologized to every girl he had wronged, he would circulate the video all over the internet.

Shaiqa was devastated, but she had to save her family’s honour. She begged Fahad to do what Faisal had asked for, but Fahad refused, and said that he would kill Faisal and Shaiqa both instead of saying sorry. She saw no way to end this, and decided to kill herself. That was when Fahad opened his eyes. His arrogance was of no use then. He screamed and cried but to no avail.

Agha Ali was spot on in that scene. His portrayal of Fahad has been convincing throughout the show.

Fullscreen capture 3222015 94615 PM

However, I was surprised that Fahad’s parents were missing in tonight’s episode as well. At least one scene with them would suffice. One more thing that left me a feeling of emptiness was, that Faisal wasn’t punished. What he did was wrong. Yes, Fahad had also done wrong, but this doesn’t mean that his punishment could be given to his sister.

The most boring scenes in tonight’s episode were Salma’s. She was the one I was supposed to like the most today, because she was finally going to take charge of her life, but I ended up wanting more of Hadiqa. Sajal’s acting was definitely spot on. The role of Hadiqa suits on her more than any other one.

Fullscreen capture 3222015 94248 PM

When Shaiqa called her (before the suicide) Hadiqa refused to listen to her. Shaiqa was obviously trying to apologize on Fahad’s behalf. When Hadiqa got to know about the suicide, her reaction was, to her horror, of happiness (which she herself mentioned later).

Hadiqa: (sounding ashamed) Mujhe uss waqt khushi hui, yeh soch kar ke Fahad ko takleef hui hogi.

This does happen when we hate a person so much, that hearing about their sorrow makes us happy. Despite that, this is selfish on various levels, and should not be done. Hadiqa felt guilty for thinking like this, that’s why she decided to do another radio show to raise awareness about the incident. This time, she could not get away and the principal caught her red handed.

Fullscreen capture 3222015 94548 PM

This time, Hadiqa’s parents were called and warned, and that’s when they got to know about the happenings in their daughter’s life. After a long time, the parents and daughter sat down for a long conversation. It made the parents realize, that they had been so busy with their lives, that they forgot to talk to their daughter, and try to find out what she was going through. This was the main message of the show, and I must say, a message well-delivered.

Hadiqa didn’t want to go back to her normal life because of the guilt. Her grandmother stepped in and helped her get over the guilt. The school decided to let the radio show go on, because it would bring positivism only.

Fullscreen capture 3222015 102831 PM

The badly timed ads disturbed me throughout the episode, but nevertheless the episode was good enough to curb my frustration. Shahid Nadeem raised many important issues in the show, and it wasn’t another saas bahu drama with roti, munh basoorti aurtein. Bullying, blackmailing (leading to depression and suicide), lack of communication between parents and children were just some of the problems that were discussed. The director did not disappoint us at all.

What did you guys think of the show?

Aneela Ijaz passed away

Famous television artist Aneela Ijaz has passed away in Peshawar yesterda. She was suffering from cancer. Aneela was not active in acting since late 1990’s. She worked in many television dramas mainly from PTV Peshawar center in 1990’s like Waapsi, Bisaat and others.

Aneela might be an unknown name for current age of television viewers, but in 1990’s she along with Shariqa Fatima was among the few female artists of PTV Peshawar center. PTV Peshawar center was inaugurated in mid 1970’s. PTV Peshawar center introduced many artists including Najeebullah Anjum, Ismael Shahid, Azeem Sajjad, Ajab Gull, Rasheed Naaz, Jahangir Khan to name a few. However due to local customs and traditions, PTV Peshawar center had no choice to cast female artists from PTV Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi centers. There were very few local female artists and Aneela was one of the few ones in that era.

The number ONE entertainment channel in Prime Time in March

As per private company Medialogic, which runs the current television rating points (TRP) system in Pakistan the highest ranked channel in the prime time in the few days of March i.e. from 16th – 19th March is Geo Kahani.

The statistics are shared by Geo Kahani, the GRP wise standing of various channels in the said duration is listed below (GRP is in the brackets)
1- Geo Kahani (127)
2- ARY Digital (107)
3- Urdu 1 (100)
4- Hum TV (74)
5- APlus (57)

Surprisingly the main entertainment channel of Geo media house i.e. Geo Entertainment is not even in the top five. Means Geo Kahani has outnumbered its own parent channel. Another interesting aspect is the entertainment content aired on Geo Kahani. Geo Kahani seldom airs any Pakistani program and depends on foreign programs among which Indian programs tops the list followed by Turkish plays. The prime time is allocated to Indian soaps like Kum Kum Baghiya, Dusri Shaadi, Jodha Akbar, CID and others. The main turkish play is Shaharzaad which has replaced Mera Sultaan. Apart from Indian and Turkish soaps, the channel also airs Animated English films dubbed in Hindi.

Further surprising is the fact that two other channels in this list i.e. Urdu 1 and Aplus at number three and five respectively also depend heavily on foreign content.More than 95% programs of Urdu 1 are foreign while more than 50% programs of APlus are foreign. Both Urdu1 and Aplus air Indian soaps in prime time on week days.

Urdu 1 only airs Pakistani dramas on Friday and Saturday at 9:00 pm while few Pakistani sitcoms also constitute the minor portion of Pakistani content on Urdu1. The famous Indian soaps of Urdu 1 are Veera, Nisha aur uskay Cousin. Turkish dramas aired on Urdu 1 are also very popular, like currently aired Ashiyana Meri Mohabbat Kaa.

Aplus the channel ranked at number five airs Indian soaps on three weekd ays (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) in Prime Time. Apart from Indian soaps, Indian horror shows and variety shows (dance and singing contests).

ARY Digital ranked at second and Hum Tv ranked at fourth are almost totally airing Pakistani content. Currently no foreign program is aired on ARY Digital, while an Indian variety show (singing competition) is being aired on Hum Tv on weekends (Satruday,Sunday).

It is said the statistics never lie, though our current TRP system is debatable and is not considered a true reflection of viewer choice still these numbers prove that a sizable number of television viewers opt to go for foreign content  (Indian followed by Turkish) instead of Pakistani content.

Goya- Episode 19 Review

The big reveal this week was Zeb’s identity. The fact that it didn’t surprise any of us is a different story. Zeb is Rahat’s illegitimate child – Hum adhey, adhurey, jaiz, najaiz, jaise bhi hein, hein toh unki aulaad hi... She wants to be accepted for who she is and let the cat out of the bag with Haniya but soon afterwards, she reverted to playing the keeper of secrets when Rahat questioned her about her past. Apney hairat aur ghussey ko qabu karna seekhiye, issey apki kamzarfi ka ehsaas hota hai…

In Muree, Omar came face-to-face with Asma Mirza who told him that Mohini is torn over his dosri shadi and doesn’t wish to associate with him further. Later on, Sharfu Nana reiterated Asma’s words but softened up seeing Omar’s masoom chehra. However, Mohini seems to be slipping away as her blood reports are a cause for concern. The lapse in continuity was a bit of a bother- when Mohini went to see the doctor it was morning time but when the doctor called Asma, it was dark at night.

Omar needed someone to say the words loud and clear to him for him to realize that he’d been played like a puppet. And Sharfu Nana was the one to deliver the blow. Omar went on to summon Safdar the security guy who succumbed to the pressure within seconds. For someone who’s been Rahat’s right hand man for the longest time, it was extremely unbelievable that he would spill the beans.

Zara is acting out like a child who’s not getting the attention she thinks she deserves. It has suddenly dawned upon her that she is Omar’s wife and she wants to be treated like one. The fact that Rahat is constantly breathing down her neck doesn’t help. Let’s see what happens next.

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Jackson Heights – (AT)LAST Episode! ;)

The day must’ve been a bit sad for Pakistani Cricket supporters but I am so glad that mine ended at a good note because Jackson Heights ended tonight. Well, to be honest I am happy that this drama has had a decent ending & Mehreen Jabbar actually managed to finish it off nicely.

Frankly speaking, I do feel that this drama had a lot of potential because of such an amazing star cast & such a credible director but somehow the script was very weak & what ruined everything was the channel’s demand of stretching it till 27 episodes. When Jackson Heights began we all thought we finally found something different to watch because a lot of Pakistanis residing abroad could relate to it but since then, alongside the drama, our wait began too where all the viewers kept on waiting for the story to actually kick-start & pick a momentum but it just didn’t happen. It was too obvious that a lot of episodes were more like fillers & didn’t offer much. I remember the director telling us personally that after the 8th episode the story will shift into the second phase & the drama will become interesting but to be honest, it never happened because the pace & the story seemed one dimensional & sadly it has ended that way too. The team has worked really hard despite a limited budget & I am not taking that away from the team but I feel the writer & the channel people are solely to be blamed for not doing justice to this drama. Now when I have invested 27 weeks in this drama (probably the longest after Shukk) I think it’s pretty obvious that the story was not meant for these many episodes. I can’t imagine what a great & happening drama it would’ve been IF it had been wrapped up within 16 – 18 episodes but sadly the craving for ratings ruined it & it actually frustrates me that why do the channels these days ONLY think about themselves & not about the viewers? Zaroori hai ke aik drama ko chewing gum ki tarhaan kheeeeennnnnchhhhhhhna ke end mai aa ke toot jaye aur dustbin main phenkna paray?

Well, I have always liked one character & that is Bhatti because probably he was the only vocal guy in this whole drama. I liked him for the fact that he always spoke his heart & mind out which actually made us feel for him & we all related to him more than any other character because the rest came across as lifeless & emotionless robots who were just living a mechanical life without giving voice to their emotions whereas Bhatti seemed like a genuine human being who was dealing with a lot of issues in his life & because of that we all could understand him, we all could feel his struggles, we all wished for him to be happy & to be honest I think Bhatti’s was the only character that the writer himself had a ‘clear’ idea about. It was too obvious that Bhatti’s character was the main reason behind writing the story of Jackson Heights & the rest were just used as fillers to make the drama a bit more happening because I just didn’t see this much clarity in any other character as much I saw in Bhatti’s. I remember when the first episode came out we all got an idea about how generous & bighearted Bhatti was & that thing prevailed till the end because his character started off with definite & clean idea but to be honest, as much as I haven’t been able to connect to the rest of the characters, I still feel I don’t know any of them because their characters didn’t give us ‘anything’ as a base to form our opinion about them in the initial episodes. I feel that’s the exact & important time for every character to make a mark in order to make the viewers form a connection with them & I think the writer should’ve worked on etching out the characters properly because I remember even when we were halfway through the drama, I still didn’t understand what did Jamshed actually want? What thoughts were going through Salma’s mind & what did Michelle want out of her life? Even now when the drama has ended I am still clueless about WHY & HOW Salma was so comfortably numb with Sikandar by her side? Why didn’t she show a sign of distress in his presence at all? Why did she trust him so much & never questioned him even after he gave her a lot of reasons to doubt him? I remember speaking about a mystery in Michelle’s character that I wanted to see unravelling but sorry, that curiosity turned into a big question of disbelief & disappointment that is still unanswered. How could Michelle change so quickly & WHAT actually made her fall for Jamshed? After Bhatti, we can say we have a little more idea about Jamshed that he was an opportunist as he led a very unfulfilling life so now when he got the opportunity he wanted to make the most of it but Michelle? Seriously what was she thinking?

Anyways, after Bhatti, the only character that I liked was of Naani but too bad she didn’t have much to offer except a few phone calls every now & then. I felt for Bhatti actually during his phone conversation with Salma. Yes, it was kind of mean of her to not call Bhatti on her own & she actually had to be reminded by Aliya to do that. May be Salma was ashamed for what Bhatti had done for her because by then she had learned the truth about Bhatti paying the gamblers off so courtesy always overtakes hesitance but in Salma’s case it didn’t happen until Aliya knocked some sense into her.

Acha, now that we’re through this drama, can someone please tell me ke Rizwan ka kya role tha is drama mai siwaye different jagahon ki coffee peenay ke aur different jagahon ke khanay try karne ke? Probably he was only introduced into the drama to keep the Indo-Pak rivalry going on – lol, because apart from that I saw nothing in his character, absolutely nothing & what made his character a bit more bland & boring was Adnan Jaffer’s stiffness to be honest. I have always commended him for his acting but here, he just didn’t seem comfortable in his skin & it seemed that as much as he tried he couldn’t give his 100% when it came to acting but then may be it has to do with the childish dialogues that were written for him!?! Perhaps!

Another wasted couple of this drama & century was of Imran’s Bhai & Bhabhi. They proved the proverb that I use a lot which says ‘once a vulture always a vulture’ but then wasn’t the writer himself tired of making all these characters so so so one-dimensional? The good ones were toooooooo good & the bad ones were tooooooo bad, like he could’ve shown some hints of positivity in the negative people too just to show that they were humans & not only vultures? To be honest, in this episode I actually wished that apart from some taunts, Bhatti had actually smacked his brother & had wiped that meesni look off his face but sadly, Bhatti gave him what he wanted, so it was a win win situation for the meesna couple.

The whole Imaan-Salma scene was done well & was actually very touching. Finally, after losing a plot for a few episodes Imaan came back to her senses & decided to be rational about it because she had a life of her own planned for her so she decided to break Salma free from all the obligations she inflicted upon her. I am glad Imaan restored my faith in humanity because I had actually lost it due to Urdu1’s mean approach in stretching Jackson Heights. Last but actually the least, what happened with Michelle, Rizwan & Jamshed just didn’t excite me & left me unbothered about them. Michelle ko aur time chahiye, Rizwan to waisay hi suited booted faarigh admi hain aur Jamshed acha wala bacha ban gaya, ta-da!!!

Anyways, I am glad that this drama has ended. I think Mehreen Jabbar did well on her part & did as much as she could to tackle this script nicely but the whole blame for sure goes onto Vasay Chaudhry & to be honest I’d suggest Mehreen Jabbar to go on a marathon the next time an opportunity of working with Vasay pops up in front of her. The acting was effortless as usual which is always a perk when watching a drama directed by Mehreen Jabbar, that’s her style & it was pretty evident. I think no other actor could’ve done justice to Bhatti’s role & Nauman Ejaz fitted into his character seamlessly. Marina Khan & Nilofer Abbasi were disappointing to say the least. I am glad Adeel Hussain tried something different this time & he did well in a negative role too. Amina Sheikh; she was good when it came to her acting but her styling…the less said the better, I mean 27 weeks of surviving a side braid, she must be commended for her consistency. Meher Jaffery was good as Aliya & she should thank her stars for getting to play a role of an only mentally stable & sane girl in this drama where every other female was turned into a senseless headless chicken & oh this reminds me of Cathy & in my opinion she was ohkay too. The girl playing the role of Imaan was good & so was Ali Kazmi….hmmm aur kaun reh gaya? Ohhhh!!! Adnan Jaffer hahaha!!! Aisi achi Urdu bolne walay Indian to meinne India mai bhi nahi dekhe, I think I’ll definitely take some Urdu classes from him because apart from his profound Urdu vocabulary & immaculate accent, he didn’t offer much & oh yes, the guy who played the role of Bhatti’s friend Javed did better than Adnan Jaffer because he had some meaningful scenes & good dialogues to his credit.

I for sure think that there was no need of adding so many characters in this drama because the writer obviously couldn’t do justice to each one of them. I really thought that their paths will cross & their stories will be interlinked but that didn’t happen. It’s like the writer had two boxes so he threw Bhatti, Salma, Sikandar in one & Jamshed, Rizwan & Michelle in the other. Jamshed & Bhatti obviously climbed the walls of those boxes once in a while because they were related. Another thing that the writer actually disappointed us all with was how he made all the female characters stupid & all the male characters sane & brainy. I really feel he degraded & underestimated the women in this drama by making them seem absolutely clueless & directionless in their lives & the way he showed their dependency on men in general, which I wasn’t expecting from a refined person like him!

Anyways, I am glad that the drama ended nicely, too bad that apart from a handful of episodes, the drama on the whole couldn’t leave a mark but I must say this drama gave a considerable amount of recognition & limelight to a lot of footpaths & coffee shops of NYC for sure, which is a good thing. ;) In the end, I thank all you awesome readers who stood by my side & gave me a much needed support while I was reviewing Jackson Heights, phew!!! Share your thoughts bhaiyon aur behnon! :)

Mera Naam Yousuf Hai – Episode 3

The opening scene of this episode was absolutely hilarious! I must say that Maya Ali is a pro at playing these characters now because she has played the girl who is an expert at making her suitors regret the day they decided to propose to her many times before too. Ali Hamza is no match for Zulekha, he does not even wish to marry her any more, in fact he feels for the person who will end up marrying Zulekha because her ideas about love scare him to death! The actor playing Ali Hamza has made his character come to life the way no one else could have. Zulekha wants to get married to someone who truly loves her and Ali Hamza is not that man. Zulekha recognizes love and she believes that she will get the “signals” when she finds someone who has that kind of love for her in his heart.

Afia Begum’s dialogues and the confidence with which they are delivered by Hina Bayat make her scenes a treat to watch. The conversation between Afia Begum and her husband are witty and intelligent. Afia is a go-getter and nothing that maulvi sahab says will make her back off. The way she kept on reminding her husband that it was 2015 and not 1915 was very refreshing!

mnyh

Yousuf is lost in love and he could not care less about Madiha’s feelings for him. Mansha Pasha is doing complete justice to her role but I am not looking forward to all the rona dhona. I wish she hadn’t taken the rejection so seriously! Yousuf thinks that Madiha can help him get in touch with Zulekha who has been on his mind from the day he saw her. I felt for Madiha and also felt like Yousuf was using her without thinking how difficult all this must be for her. I am watching two dramas with Imran Abbas in them right now but I am never reminded of Haadi when I see Yousuf on screen not only because the characters are poles apart but also because Imran Abbas has translated them on screen very aptly too.

mnyh

The relationship between Zulekha and her sister, Madiha and her brother and the bond between Yousuf and his sister is heart warming. It isn’t very often that we get to see such siblings on screen. The acting by all the actors playing the roles of the siblings is effortless and the chemistry between them all makes their scenes stand out. Yousuf’s scene with his sister showed that he is anything but a genius or that he is very distracted!

The dialogues in this drama have a very “political” tone to them which makes them refreshing and fun to listen to. Mera Naam Yousuf Hai isn’t a new story but so far the quality of script, performances, direction and the pace of the play has been top-notch. The picture quality of the play is simply outstanding, every single color comes alive on screen and it looks like the director of photography paid special attention to lighting and even the colors of clothes which the actors wore on the set. It is obvious that different shades of blue have been used to enhance the beauty of each scene and the idea has worked like a charm!

Sadqay Tumhare – Episode 24

“Tu gorkun hai Rasheeda, gorkun..qabrin khodnay wali, teri dihari na na lage tu tujhe chain he nahi parta!” This episode was not as shocking and disappointing as the last one, Abdur Rehman decided to go back to Lahore which put an end to everything that transpired between him and Rasheeda in the last episode. Thank fully whatever happened after Khalil entered the room when Humaira was choking was not shown but the conversation between the two later on suggested that Khalil did exactly what Humaira did in the last episode! There was a little too much of Humaira and Khalil in this episode and the little that we saw of Shano and Khalil was not the sort of interaction which most viewers were looking forward to watching between the two.

“Meri ami ko burha krne ki tamam koshishi nakaam ho gayee”.…Sadqay Tumhare has been filled with many shocking secrets that changed the lives of many of the characters and also our opinions about them. The scene in which Shano narrated her mother’s twisted life story to Khalil to make him understand why her mother would never allow Khalil to be a part of her life was definitely very well written because the way Shano narrated the story went to show there was a part of her which understood why her mother could not get over everything that happened to her in the past. She did not blame her mother because she was too young to understand what was going on. Khalil and Shano’s love story was always filled with complications but whenever these two were with each other they forgot everything and enjoyed their time together. Tonight however things were quite different. Things seems to be getting even more difficult and uglier with every passing episode and the story isn’t moving towards a conclusion at the moment.

ST

Inayat’s dialogue about how everyone was guilty of hurting someone or the other was spot on. In fact there were many dialogues in this episode that hit the nail on its head and really struck a chord with me. Inayat knows only too well that her husband got married to her only because he wanted to hurt Rasheeda and he might still have feelings for her. The scene in which Rasheeda looks in the mirror and “discovers” how much she had aged was absolutely brilliant. It was as if she had suddenly noticed that she had changed – times had changed – but that moment only lasted for a few seconds and soon enough she was back to the time where she was engaged to Abdur Rehman! Rasheeda is waiting for Amin to die so that she can stop pretending and finally live a life which she has wanted to live for all these years. Sammiya Mumtaz deserves a standing ovation for portraying all the shades of Rasheeda’s personality brilliantly. I might not like Rasheeda but I definitely understand her character more than any other and I understand why she is the way she is. Rasheeda decided 24 years back that she will not move on and that is why she held on to all those memories for all these years in the hope that some day she will be able to continue her love story from where it was “interrupted”.

Humaira and Khalil’s track is really putting me off, I hope that it comes to an end very soon. Listening to Humaira’s plans was frightening and Khalil isn’t exactly keeping his distance either. Tonight’s episode had some very powerful dialogues which is why it wasn’t as big a disappointed as the last one. I have been a big fan of Sadqay Tumhare but I think it is time to wrap things up now before the drama completely goes off-track. I feel like Shano and Khalil seem to be talking about everything else except what they should be talking about. Khalil did not tell Shano that Humaira was in love with him – is he really that “scared” of Humaira? Khalil shared the Peer’s story with Bay Ji but he did not say anything to Shano about it.

Will Shano tell Khalil that he is Sadiq’s son? How will he react to that? What will be Rasheeda’s next step? And what will become of Shano and Khalil’s “love story” which seems to have taken a back seat now?

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Khuda Dekh Raha Hai – Episode 05!

Ohkay so, it was another decent episode of Khuda Dekh Raha Hai this week. I like watching this drama because it’s well paced & more than that it’s a decent watch on Thursdays. The story’s progressing smoothly which makes it easier to follow & look forward to next episode as well.

This episode revolved more around Zoya & her marriage proposals. Zoya sighs with relief because Junaid finally decides to bid his music career goodbye. Only because it happens to be his last concert, he wants that night to be memorable for both; himself & for Zoya which is why he asks her to be there to witness his last performance. As Zoya happens to be well aware of what this decision would cost & mean to Junaid, she respects his demand & decides to be there for him as she also wants to know what’s running through his mind but unfortunately she is spotted by Sanam. Junaid obviously makes sure that Zoya doesn’t have any doubts left which is why he makes sure she understands that she is just as important to him as he is to her & his music definitely means nothing to him in comparison to the life he has planned ahead with Zoya by his side. I found their conversation actually very sweet because they both love each other equally, even though Zoya has asked for so much more, Junaid is willing to do everything for her.

To be honest I am amazed that Khalida doesn’t seem to mind Zoya’s activities. Even when she questions her, Zoya tries to make excuses & starts reasoning with her. Not that Zoya isn’t doing something wrong but she isn’t doing something right either because she actually deceives her family every single time she plans a meeting with Junaid. I feel this is a mistake on Khalida’s part as well that she is so oblivious & doesn’t seem to care much about what Zoya’s usually upto, it’s like Khalida has pretty much stopped being bothered about her family & for the reasons best known to her. Yes, she does talk to them every now & lets them know the rules she is setting but then she isn’t in control of her family as much as she should be.

Like I predicted; Sanam is already on Zoya’s case as she wants her to get married to Adnan. Even though Moeez tried to talk her out of it I knew he will succumb to her pressurizing because he loves her to such an extent that he would never do anything against her wish or will. Just because Sanam’s father has already bribed her to help her with the boutique, she now has all the more reason to force Adnan into Zoya’s life.

I was surprised to see Junaid making his way into meeting Zoya’s family so early but then later what happened was actually kind of surprising. I knew that Moeez was kind of selfish but didn’t know his limit that he was ready to put Junaid down just because of Adnan. Moeez himself knows what sort of a person Adnan is but just because he happens to be Sanam’s brother; Moeez has stopped seeing his bad side & thinks he is suitable for Zoya. Yes, Junaid is a musician but the point is he loves Zoya & Zoya loves him, so when Moeez can get married to the one he loves, why can’t Zoya do that? I really thought Moeez would support his sister & he would be open-minded about Zoya liking someone but it wasn’t appeasing seeing him putting Sanam ahead of his own sister. I so wish Zoya stands for her rights & pressurizes her family like Moeez did when it came to Sanam but then Moeez only had to deal with his mother & he knew his ways but now sadly Zoya will have to put up with Moeez, Sanam & Khalida but I have a feeling that Khalida will do what Moeez will tell her to because she obviously favours him more than Zoya. Let’s see what happens ahead? Share your thoughts about this episode & tell me how much you want Zoya to stand up for herself?

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

Alvida – Episode 6

Most of us had already guessed the main twists in the story primarily due to the detailed promos that leave very little to the imagination but I must say that even though I knew how the story would unfold I enjoyed tonight’s episode nevertheless. The timeline was just as confusing in this episode as well as it was in the last one but the fact that I can relate to most of the characters in the play and I find them interesting definitely has to be the reason why I was able to overlook some of the glitches in tonight’s episode.

Aroosa’s exit from the show was very touching. All the scenes that led to the final tragedy and especially the scene after her death in which Haadi comes out of the Operation Theatre was spot on. Not a single word was exchanged between any of the actors involved but their expressions said a thousand words. I felt for Haadi, I could not help but cry for Aroosa and Taya’s character managed to impress me yet again. It is an absolute pleasure to watch a positive man in charge for a change. He is not too soft and not too strict, he puts his foot down when he thinks that he needs to tell Haadi where he is going wrong but he also understands how Haadi feels. The story moved forward in a very convincing manner as far as Haadi’s track was concerned. Haadi held himself responsible for his wife’s death because he was the one operating on her when she passed away. I must give Imran Abbas full marks for giving those perfect expressions which help you read the mind of the character. Haadi felt like a “culprit” when Aroosa’s father said that he chose to save the baby’s life. Haadi’s reaction to that comment and the expression on his face showed that he was convinced that he really was guilty of making the wrong decision .

alvida

While things moved forward at a very fast pace in Aroosa and Haadi’s life, it seemed like not more than a day had passed since the last episode in Haya’s life when this episode opened. It looked like Haya had just left Kaukab’s house when she called her Tayee but on the other side her Tayee told Haya about Aroosa’s condition like she was in the last trimester and just seconds later we saw Aroosa being rushed to the hospital because it was time for the baby to arrive. If we look at Aroosa and Haadi’s life then at least 6 months had elapsed since the last episode. Haya has moved to the hostel in all this time and she has found herself a job. She chooses to be in touch with her family only when she wishes to do so. Haya does not want to know what is happening in Haadi and Aroosa’s life and the only way to do this is to have very little contact with her Taya and Tayee. Haya’s track was somewhat confusing. Haya’s Taya called Faiez even though Haya left their house six months back and he knew that she was staying at the hostel now. He was obviously desperate to get in touch with her but that phone call did not make much sense. If he called to get a contact number it would have been much better instead of asking for Haya as if she was still living with Kaukab and Faiez. Ramiz is Haya’s colleague who would really like to get attention from her but Haya wants to keep her distance for obvious reasons.

Nothing has changed between Farisa and Saim in these six months or so! They were still fighting and making up. I am very impressed by the way Sara Khan has portrayed her character. The lust in her eyes when she opens the locker said more about her character than anything else she has done till now! Farisa apparently respects Haadi bhai a lot, watching her stand up for him in front of Khala was like watching a totally different side of Farisa’s character. The responsibility of taking care of the baby was left to Farisa since she was free from college but Haadi’s parents really should start looking for a full time maid!! I hate to see girls of the family or family friends being “used” for looking after the house or the baby if the lady of the house is not around or in this case dead. What happened to hiring maids? No one ever even thinks on those lines.

The preview of the next episode showed that Haadi missed Haya and wants to get in touch with her. Farisa will still be around taking care of the baby in the next episode. I hope that the timeline is less confusing in the upcoming episodes and both the tracks move forward at the same pace. Will Haya move on and warm up to Ramiz? Are Farisa and Haadi “bhai” destined to be together?? I am waiting to find out.

I must say that I really enjoyed tonight’s episode even though it was quite predictable. The brilliant performances by all the actors and especially by Imran Abbas and Sara Khan deserve a special mention. Mehmood Aslam has completely won me over as Taya Abu. There wasn’t much of Sanam Jung in this episode, I hope that Haadi and Haya’s paths meet at some point SOON!

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Justin Bibis have gained a lot of popularity in the past few weeks, so much so that they do not even need any introduction. When these girls sang the Justin Bieber song they probably had no idea that they were going to get so much attention. Justin Bibis were invited to many Morning Shows in which the hosts and the viewers motivated them to go ahead with their passion. Coke’s latest anthem which is part of its new advertisement dedicated to the cricket World Cup starts with Justin Bibis humming the tune that gave them all the popularity they are enjoying today. The latest version of this World Cup anthem is catchy and has number of artists it.

Diyar-e-Dil – Episode 01!

Just one word for the very first episode of Dayar-e-Dil & yes, you guessed it right, its amazinggggggg. I don’t know for how long I have waited for this drama to begin & now when it has hit our TV screens, I am so glad it has kick-started with a bang. Direction of Haseeb Hassan & Writing of Farhat Ishtiyaaq; Dayar-e-Dil has had a promising beginning on a very clear note.

Collage 3

The story for now revolves around the family of Bakhtiyaar Khan (Abid Ali); a patriarch who has two sons Behroz Khan (Mikaal Zulfikaar) & Suhaib Khan (Ali Rehman). Bakhtiyaar Khan has gotten his eldest son Behroz engaged to his brother Bedaar Khan’s (Rasheed Naz) daughter Arjumand Bedaar Khan (Hareem Farooqi). Behroz is exactly like his father who doesn’t like to follow but likes to make his own rules whereas Suhaib being the youngest understands the specific boundaries his father has set for pretty much everything in their family & he doesn’t seem to mind following his father’s rules. I actually liked how effortlessly they gave us an insight into their characters right from the beginning & it actually helped us in forming a definitive opinion about all of them. As far as Behroz is concerned, I see him as a rigid eldest son of the family who doesn’t like being commanded whereas Suhaib being the youngest is quite flexible & has allowed himself to mould in such a way where he doesn’t want to question his father for all of his decisions. In comparison to Behroz, Suhaib understands the intricacy of every situation & he comes across as a very easy going & courteous person too.

Collage 1

Arjumand is like your typical desi girl who is hopelessly in love with her fiancé of childhood. I liked her character in a way that she lives in a small bubble of her own where she believes that her life is enclosed within this home & she already has started taking care of it like her own as she knows this is what she is bound to do. Even though the drama has just begun but I already feel a lot for Arjumand as she doesn’t know that a dark cloud is about to overtake her life. Another interesting character that got introduced was of Laila Feroz Khan (Eshita) who happens to be a daughter of Bakhtiyaar’s friend Feroz. Suhaib & Laila instantly form a connection when they get to meet for the first time & I think their track will offer us a lot more in the episodes to come.

I actually liked all the conversations but the one that stood out for me was the conversation between Behroz & Suhaib where he tells him that he is already in love with someone & she is Ruhina Arsalan (Sanam Saeed). Suhaib obviously reacts like any rational person would because he not only understands what sort of harm this decision of his brother will cause to his family but he also knows what Behroz means to Arjumand as he has seen how much she actually wants to be with him. Suhaib tries to make his brother understand that this decision of his will take a toll on the whole family but Behroz seems to have made up his mind & he doesn’t want to turn back. Ruhina on the other hand also speaks to her brother (Behroz Sabzwari) about Behroz but he tries to point out all the differences between his & their family. Ruhina firmly believes that Behroz will get married to her as he has promised but her brother thinks the otherwise. Even though we didn’t get to know much about Ruhina’s character, I just couldn’t stop thinking how similar both Ruhina & Arjumand in many aspects were. They both are rooted, traditional & simple girls but the only difference is, Behroz loves Ruhina & Arjumand falls short on that account. Finally, Behroz musters up the courage to let Bakhtiyaar know about his decision of not marrying Arjumand but Bakhtiyaar brushes it off thinking it’s just an infatuation & it’s nothing to be bothered about.

Collage 2

The preview of the next episode suggested a lot more drama & I can’t wait to see more. Even though the story for now seems pretty figure-able but I loved how they have executed it. The production value obviously is top-notch & so is the direction. The crisp quality & amazing camera work has done justice to all the beautiful locations & the mansion they have chosen for shooting. I love the casting of this project; Hareem Farooqi fits well in the character of a hopeless romantic & she actually was able to pull off that look of a girl who gets all excited seeing her fiancé in her surroundings. Mikaal Zulfikaar seems good in his serious role too but for now Ali Rehman actually stood out for me the most because he has not only changed his look to fit the character of a guy belonging to a tribal area but he has actually imitated the accent as well & that’s adds a lot more to his acting & gives it another dimension which is commendable. Eshita looks nice too but I feel I have seen her playing a role of an uptight & prim & proper girl before so she doesn’t offer anything different. Abid Ali is Abid Ali & his name says it all. I actually liked the OST too but I wish they had used the one which was played in the teasers; it actually matched the whole feel of the drama perfectly. So my verdict obviously is; so far so good. Please share your say on the very first episode of Dayar-e-Dil & let me know how eager you are to watch the next episode. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

PS: I know the story of Dayar-e-Dil comes from a novel & a lot of the viewers/readers have read it already but I am sure there are many viewers like me who haven’t read the novel & are depending on the drama only to enjoy the whole experience so I actually request all of you guys (who have read the novel) to not post ANY sort of spoiler alerts because like the name suggests, it spoils the whole drama watching experience. I’m not in a hurry to know what’s going to happen ahead or in the end & I’d like to take what they’ll offer us slowly & steadily. Please remember Dayar-e-Dil reviews have a STRICT No-Spoiler-Alert Policy so I hope you guys will respect that. Au Revoir! ;)

Dusri Biwi- Episode 16

0

For me, the saving grace of this episode was Amna! Allah issay khush rakhay because after quite a long time, a character from this play actually spoke my mind! As far as I can recall, when Farah decided to marry Hassan, she was mature enough to foresee the consequences of her hasty decision but she herself ‘chose’ to live in a fool’s paradise. I mean, she actually thought that she can live a picture perfect life with Hassan without disturbing his pehli family. And now when the horrible picture of getting married to an already married man finally surfaced, she turned into the biggest bechari of the season and now she wants to prove to the world that she can go to any extent to ensure the happiness of husband dearest and his pehli family! I am so glad that Farah has decided to move in with her friend, Amna because after years of living with a family of nut-jobs, it’s beneficial for her mental health to live with a person who can talk some sense into her! And I was shocked when Farah pulled this irritatingly innocent face of hers and was like, ‘Meri kia ghalti hai?’ but God bless this Amna girl: Ghalti tou tumhari hai- tum nay ek shadishuda mard say shadi ki!

BUT apart from that, this episode was extremely painful to sit through. Sheheryar Zaidi and Amber Khan, the duo playing Farah’s parents, irritated me to no end because to tell you the truth, there’s nothing about them that gives me the impression that they’re parents of two grown-up daughters because as amusing as it is, they are plain immature! When Farah’s mom says, ‘Tumharay abbu ko tou aqal hi nhe hai’, I felt like saying kay Aunty Jee, aqal tou aap ki puri family ko nahe hai because these people make the worst decisions ever and then they cry a rivulet of tears, totally oblivious of how excruciatingly tough it is for the viewers to stand their OTT-ness! Bajjo poses to be Farah’s best friend and what not but its unbelievable that she doesn’t know the names or contact numbers of any of her sister’s friends!

Saman can ask her mommy all sorts of ridiculous & senseless & pointless questions but when it comes to her daddy, can’t she question the obvious in her oh-so-innocent voice: Papa, aakhir Aunty aap ki hain kia??!!?? I mean, Hassan actually asks his little girl to pray kay ‘aunty mil jayen’ and papa’s obedient daughter actually does that!

Sorry, DB team, it’s not sweet, it’s not heart-touching, it’s plain LAME! (see below)

db1lame

And then here comes Aashi- chalo bhui aaj tou bartan bhi toot gaye but to be brutally honest, I am falling short of words to describe how painful it is to see her whining, sulking, crying, face-palming AND then the laal laal apples on her cheeks are terribly confusing: how in the world does she get time to do her make-up when her life is a compete mess and absolutely NOTHING it makes sense?!

AND how can I forget the most ‘exciting’ part of today’s episode? The ultimate crying competition between Biwi No.1 and Biwi No.2 and trust me, I think the director fell in love with Farah’s effort-ful crying in the last episode and therefore the whole crying sequence was repeated all over again!!!

competion

So this it for today. What do you guys think of this episode? And by the end of the episode, how many of you were like this:

P.S: Since my papers are approaching, I’ll be reviewing Dusri Biwi episode 17 & 18 together. Wish me good luck :) Take care, my friends!
