Digest Writer – Episode 07!

Ohkay so, I can’t get enough of this drama because each episode is interesting than the other. Every single time the drama shows some new developments & it keeps the viewers engaged. I think short scenes & the pace are the strength of this drama along with a very realistic approach on a story of a writer. I believe it’s the first time that we’ve being given an insight as to what goes behind the cameras & what it takes to make a good drama & such a journey is a delight to watch.

I know it’d sound surprising but in this episode I felt for Shaukat a lot. He is genuinely a nice guy who also has some weaknesses but the way he shows his concern for Fareeda & tries to rectify his mistakes actually portrays that he is a nice person. It’s his tough luck that Fareeda’s not interested in him because let’s get honest, she is way out of his league & Shaukat is in a strong denial of this fact. Even after Fareeda has told him a million times that she won’t get married to him, he remains persistent & tries his luck but one thing that’s worth a mention is that apart from her own family, it was only Shaukat who tried to console Fareeda when she was going through a hard time & for this he definitely earns some bonus points.

Sadly, Fareeda’s worst nightmares have materialized because she had to experience what she, never in her dreams, had thought of. Rida Anmol obviously backstabbed her & took credit for her hard work. I thought in this tough time, a little gesture by Bint-e-Hawa would at least serve as a little compensation but too bad, Rida Anmol & Sikandar are a strong team because they’ve survived in this industry for a long long time & they very well know how to mend the ways in their favour.

It was obvious that nobody would trust Fareeda & because of that she backed out but it was Bint-e-Hawa who guided her rightly. I felt for Fareeda a lot as well not only because she had made some promises to Jameela but solely because she lost motivation for writing. I think this brunt will serve as a good opportunity for Fareeda because she will bounce back & eventually will end up meeting the right person who will value her talent. A little utterance of Manzar Hayat also showed that commercialism has overwhelmed this industry. He was determined on not changing the script but then like anybody else, he had financial obligations to tend to & this sheds a light on the fact that often producers force the writers to make some changes that they’re not comfortable with. It was somehow also a depiction of the writers’ helplessness because eventually they end up submitting to the demands of the producers & the channels.

Finally, Fareeda has given an edge to Shehryar because he seems completely smitten by her mental calibre. Obviously, he was the reason that forced Fareeda to make an ID but the way she posed as if she has been very busy was rather sweet. Her excitement was evident yet she didn’t want to give him a hint of such sort. I can’t wait to see how their track unfolds.

The preview of next episode seemed really interesting. Rida Anmol would try to hire Fareeda because she knows she’s talented as well as this is her only way of making money, so let’s see what decision would she make & finally her mystery fan will make an appearance too. Can’t wait to find out more. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode of Digest Writer as well & I must say it’s a very intelligent script writing where each card is being revealed at a relevant time. Share your thoughts please.

Chupkay se Bahar Ajaye_ Episode 5

0

The scenes following the death of Saqib’s parents were short and delivered. They were not prolonged unnecessarily with useless dialogues and that’s why I could connect to the characters especially Saqib.

safe_image

Saqib lost his parents and now the only family he has left is his khala’s and that is why he asked her to stay at his house. The scene between the two where he hugged her and asked her to stay was really emotional.

rang naz

I dislike Saira, but I have never hated her till now. She has dreams and everyone is allowed to dream. It’s just her thirst for acquiring money with a shortcut which bothers me. It’s okay to dream but  using people who love you,  to fulfill your dream is wrong and that’s exactly what Saira is doing with Saqib. She does not love him, she loves his money. Instead of being thankful for a blessing like Saqib, she is busy thinking about what she will do with his money. She didn’t even bother to console him!

Pakistani-Model-Arij-Fatyma-Biography-002

Saira’s brother-in-law decided that Saira and Saqib should get married now. Everything is in Saira’s favour for now. On the other hand, Shafaq’s life is the same as before. What came as a shock was that she is at death’s door. Once again, Rahma Ali and Ismat Zaidi impressed me. Not only their acting, but their chemistry as mother-daughter is heart-warming.  Shafaq’s mother has decided to fight for her daughter’s life with all her money and wealth.

nuj

This time, we weren’t shown the dream which Shafaq told her mother about. That would have been a pretty cool horror scene in the otherwise emotional episode. I don’t know why such scenes are cut  down and just narrated. This happened in “Shab-e-Zindagi” (Sumbhul Iqbal and Agha Ali starrer). Agha Ali went into Afghanistan by illegal means and was shot by the Afghan Army at the border. That scene would have stirred interest in the otherwise boring drama but it wasn’t included and simply narrated.

From what I have understood is that Shafaq was being chased by a man with a dagger and she ran off into a dark place. She started sinking into a quicksand and then another man saved her. Mehwish Hayat in various expressions

Shafaq came to meet Saira at Saqib’s house and had a small conversation with Saqib. After that, it was pretty evident that she fell for him. The question is, why? Why would Shafaq fall for Saqib? She is not a girl who values looks and money isn’t of any worth to her.

For the answer, let’s wait for the next episode. Please share your thoughts on this episode.

Tonite With HSY- (Saba Hameed & Meesha Shaafi) Episode 8

0

Two celebrities, one host. Questions, quizzes and a bit of chit chat. This is pretty much the format of any talk show but why is it that Tonite With HSY doesn’t deliver week after week? Are the guest boring? Well, truth be told, unless you’re genuinely interested in any particular actor or celebrity, you’d most likely find them boring. But somehow, I feel they end up looking even more mundane than they might be.

safe_image

Today’s guests were the dynamic mother-daughter duo of Saba Hameed and Meesha Shaafi. Sheru was animated throughout which was quite surprising since he prefers to let the guests take over his show. But despite his best efforts, this episode was a snoozefest. I went through two cups of chai in an attempt to stay focused. Meesha narrated the story of Mama Simi– a role played by her mother that she thought was her best work till date. Saba admitted that she puts up a fight whenever she feels something isn’t right. According to Sheru, this was the first time Saba and Meesha have given an interview together. Furthermore he claimed Saba hardly gives interviews to which Saba responded that she prefers to maintain a private life away from fans.

10525879_747318055349191_7108797230996735444_n

Meesha spoke about her projects- her rise to success has been phenomenal and she has achieved much in a short span of time. She attributes her achievements to sheer luck. Indeed- luck happens to be the one factor that sets most of us apart from our contemporaries. Saba wants to pursue direction while Meesha wants to continue creating more music and simultaneously work in film projects. Meesha is ready to take on a challenging role but feels people perceive her as glamorous which may have worked to her disadvantage. Speaking of glamour, Sheru asked Saba why our drama makers are constantly working to portray beautiful women as Bibi Maasi Musibatein and the answer was obvious- ratings are to blame was this disturbing trend.

1526719_747287072018956_3255491667561387_n

Fortunately, we were spared at least one of three contests but we had to sit through Love or Don’t Love and Ajnabee Kaun Ho Tum. I think getting rid of them altogether may not be such a bad idea and replacing it with something that livens the atmosphere a little. Personally, I like talk shows- I just think the creators if  TWHSY need to seriously rethink their approach and do things differently. Not every guest has the capacity to take over the show and when they don’t Sheru comes across completely clueless.

Let’s hope for a better episode next week. Fingers crossed! What did you think?

Goya- Episode 1 Review

0

And finally- the much awaited drama by ARY, written by Mohammed Ahmed, produced by Six Sigma and directed by Farrukh Faiz, Goya is here! Go do something constructive- you’re wasting my time and your time! Welcome to the world of Rahat Hashmi (Usman Peerzada)- successful businessman, public figure, jo hamesha ya toh kuch baich rahein hotay hein ya phir kuch khareed rahey hotey hain. A man who thrives on control to the extent that he has conditioned his only son, Omar aka Jr. Hashmi (Osman Khalid Butt) into responding in the following three ways- Yes Sir, Okay Sir, Sorry Sir. Omar, who routinely graces the covers of various magazines is one of the most sought after bachelors in town simply by virtue of birth. But his feelings aren’t that of any stereotypical ameerzaada– on the contrary, he feels suffocated with the burden of being a public figure. Omar’s only outlet is his buddy Ali (Furqan Qureshi) and Mrs. Imtiyaaz (Shamin Hilali) who is tasked with the responsibility of carrying out the orders given by the Sr. Hashmi. Rahat has married a second time to Tara Mehmood but so far she hasn’t shown any inclination towards being a riwaayati soteli maa. In fact, she seems to be the voice of reason and reminds her husband azaadi bhi koi cheez hoti hai.

images (1)

Rahat strongly believes that he has done right by his son by keeping him in a controlled environment and safeguarding him from the ayaashiyan that are common of the rich and famous. He has chosen a suitable match for his son- the daughter of his friend Saleem. He is confident that his son won’t refuse him to which his wife questions- Aaap ne apney bete ko inkaar ka haq diya hai? Omar wants to go to the USA and pursue an MBA but is predictably shot down by his father- jo students bahar parhney kaatey hein wohh uss position ke liye jaatey hein jis position pe tum already ho! In his eyes, Omar needs to settle down although seeing how his mind works, I’m certain there’s more to this match than meets the eye. Knowing full well that his father won’t take no for an answer, Omar does what any rational 20something would do- plan an escape!

We are also introduced to a mother-daughter duo of Asma (Farah Shah) and Mohini (Sana Javed). These two share an impossibly casual relationship so much so that Mohini often refers to her mother as Asma. Mohini is a news reporter and seems to be the mature one out of the two while Asma is a drama queen with a filmy fascination. Some of their conversations circled around finding a suitable match for Mohini- a man who would double as a handyman. It seems like these two women have been living on their own but fortunately there’s no melodrama here- not just yet. Both these women are independent and self-sufficient. They work respectable jobs to make a decent living and are a huge contrast to the father-son relationship shared by the Sr and Jr Hashmi.

images (2)

How do two people who are poles apart cross paths? Well, as luck would have it, Omar happens to be at an art exhibition where Mohini is covering the event. In their brief encounter, Mohini is seen as a strong, confident woman whereas Omar appears to be socially awkward. Will this turn into love at first fight? Who knows? But we do get a glimpse into a growing attraction- Omar shares as much with Ali after he meets the annoying Ayeza. Does anyone know the name of the actress? I hope we really, really, really don’t get to see anymore of her.

Some of the scenes that stood out were the ones with Omar and Ali- be it their man-to-man way of settling an argument by resorting to rock-paper-scissors or Ali’s sincere advise to Omar- Tu khudkhushi karley bhai- apni mari hui machli jaisa moun lekar please mere paas mat aana. Even the scene of those two referring to Sr Hashmi as Undertaker while playing a WWF game was amusing. Other than that, some witty one liners by Mohini like Raam Leela ki Amma reminded me of her role as Lubna in Pyarey Afzal. As far as the actors go, I felt Farah Shah was a bit OTT. I wasn’t particularly fond of Hina Tareen either. But the rest of the cast more than made up for the shortcomings. Osman Khalid Butt was amazing as Omar; Sana Javed has yet again nailed the role given to her; Usman Peerzaada – naam hi kaafi hai; Furqan Qureshi is another one to watch out for- he makes his presence felt everytime and Shamin Hilali was spot on as Mrs. Imtiyaz. However, I couldn’t help shake this movie feel- maybe the print had something to do with it? Another rant- for someone as high and mighty as Rahat Hashmi, his home was a huge letdown. Budget interior designer anyone? For a first episode, it was intriguing but definitely didn’t make me go- Wow! Isn’t it mind-blowing? What about you? What did you think? Yay or Meh?

Firaaq – Episode 11

0

We can finally stop guessing what is wrong with Imroze because the cat is out of the bag. Imroze’s reaction was not surprising at all because we are all well aware of how negative he is by now, even the positive streak in him that was revealed when he asked Roomi to let Paymaan think that he left her because he was not loyal to her was not very convincing. A man must have a very big heart to make such a sacrifice even if he is about to die. We can only wonder if Imroze loved Paymaan enough to put himself through all this pain in order to ensure that his wife can move on and have a happy life because from the very first scene to the last one of Imroze and Paymaan’s life together we never saw them happy. Paymaan always felt like she was not good enough or that Imroze did not love her enough. Imroze’s character will most probably make its exit in the next episode and I still feel like the viewers weren’t even introduced to his character properly unlike all the other characters in the play. It is somewhat ironic that the writer and the director managed to cover the smallest details about the past and present of the side characters brilliantly without leaving any loop holes but failed to do the same for the man who is going to play a major role in changing the life of our leading lady. So, Imroze was all alone in this world after all, he did not have an ugly past or a dirty secret …. basically there wasn’t much to his character at all except that he was lonely, depressed, insecure and now very sick too and he only entered Paymaan’s life only to ruin it forever!

Untitled

Poor Roomi has yet again been given a huge responsibility and like a good friend he only questions Imroze’s future plans instead of revealing the truth to Paymaan. Roomi tried to make Imroze realize that he was being unfair to Paymaan but Imroze just wants to go away so that Roomi and Paymaan can have a happy life!! I must say that Imroze’s character had potential, if we could have been shown the good and the bad in him but all we saw was a lot of negativity which basically makes it impossible for me to feel for his character.

Tabbasum, Haider, Shams and Sara finally got their happy ending. It was quite predictable what Tabbasum had in store for Shams but the complete change in Shams’ stance regarding having a child came as a good surprise. It was good to see Tabbasum and Haider dance in joy but even these two loveable characters could not keep my interest in the story alive tonight. Things keep on moving forward in Firaaq but do they really make you look forward to more? I have to say not at all. There is too much talking in the play and most importantly our leading lady has become very dull. Tabbasum wants to mend fences with her daughter next and honestly speaking I am not looking forward to it one bit! Can Paymaan be any more berung? Do I want to see Roomi playing the savior yet again? I guess not! Roomi’s character is sweet but the story is too predictable and there is hardly any chemistry between Sanam Saeed and Noor Hassan. Why would someone like Roomi want to be with someone like Paymaan? I hope that the drama gives us something new and entertaining to watch in the upcoming episodes because for now there isn’t much I can connect to. The highlight of tonight’s episode was Shams and Sara’s reunion and it was nice to see Sara wearing Tabbasum’s wedding dress. Honestly speaking, I couldn’t care less about what was going on in the lives of our main protagonists – which is sad!!

Jackson Heights – Episode 09!

Ohkay so, after 9 episodes, I now get it. Jackson Height’s is just a story of a few people & their daily routines because apart from that we haven’t gotten anything so as to connect to our characters & relate to them like we would’ve liked to. By saying this I am by no means belittling the efforts that the entire cast & crew has put in to make this project but seems like this script lacked the wow factor to begin with.

In order to watch this drama you need to know that you’re just going to encounter what the characters in their daily lives are facing because apart from that, there’s no detailing & no depth in the script at all. I believe those who have a busy schedule do always get some time off in a day where they sit back & reminisce about different journeys that they have made & what brought them to this point in their lives, so I wish that if we had been shown that sort of a detailing & background of each & every character, it would’ve helped us a lot in relating to them & understand their feelings a bit better. We get it, it’s a story of desis living in America & almost all the desis can agree to it that it’s a very realistic portrayal of how tough the life is for them in the US & for that I give full points to the team but other than that, I think there isn’t much left. To be honest, discussing Jackson Heights is like discussing a daily routine of a few people & the happenings that they’re experiencing & ta-da, you’re done.

So, seems like everyone in Jamshed’s family knew that he was interested in Asma & just like how it should’ve been, they all seemed pretty ohkay with the fact that Nadir took his spot & got engaged to Asma. I actually think Jamshed’s mamu was right that if he had stayed back in Pakistan, he would’ve done something for himself because Jamshed has only been a burden on people around him. It was good to see that Nadir & Asma took a moment to clarify things that might haunt them in the future & that mutual link was Jamshed. Asma clearly looked heartbroken but she manages to grab all the sympathies because she has been in such a tough position where she knew that letting go of Jamshed was the only option left & I can’t emphasize enough that genuinely Asma is the only character I actually feel for because Rida Isafahani has done her bit extremely well. She really makes us all feel her pain & distress.

Finally, Jamshed has come out of his preconceived notions of America (which he has been trying to from the last few episodes) & he has understood that his struggle has begun and that’s why he settled for a $6/hour job. As much as I think it’s good to see him taking the first step, his approach seems really immature where he tries to rationalize his illegal actions. It’s like Jamshed would love to work in America even if he becomes illegal but he wouldn’t settle for a government job in Pakistan without having to worry about all these never-ending & dodgy immigration procedures.

I so wish they hadn’t given so much coverage to Iman’s dance classes & also I so wish they hadn’t spoken about Islamic School in such a stern way as if it was something highly unappreciable. I agree with Salma’s notion that Islam needs to be practiced to be preached but then where on one hand she seemed quite reluctant on the mention of Islamic school, on the other she was being overly supportive of the dance class to a point where she resorted to lie to her husband so that Iman could enjoy what she likes & that puts it in a wrong perspective altogether. I so wish they hadn’t done that.

Not sure about others but I am getting tired of Cathy’s indifference towards her husband Imran. Like I said, we don’t know what lead them to this point to clearly understand what Cathy’s issues are. Imran Bhatti has been a very considerate person, who takes care of people around him so it’s like a done deal that he took care of Cathy & her kids too, so what made them both grow out of this relation where Cathy has no time for her husband & there’s isn’t much of a relationship left anyways? She clearly seems ticked off with her husband’s desi-ness but then wasn’t she aware of what desi men are like when she decided to get married to him & after that I don’t think Imran has given any reason to her to be so mad at him all the time so yes, what’s her issue? Any background story please?

Sikandar’s character (not the actor) failed to leave a mark. Obviously, he likes to be in control of the situation around him & he thinks people should treat him as an incharge of their lives without expecting anything from him in return. Sikandar himself has done nothing to earn the respect of his wife & his daughter but then again, I hope his story does get some coverage where we find out more about his character & his relation to Salma. As much as I want to feel for Salma, I can’t bring myself to it because she never complains & we haven’t found out what she’s feeling or what she thinks of the circumstances she’s facing. Yes, she does talk every now & then to Aliya but ends up defending her husband’s family, so you really don’t know what she’s going through. Mostly the topics that Salma speaks on revolve around her MIL or Iman but what she feels is untold & the big question is, what does she feel about her husband being a felon? Isn’t she scared, doesn’t she want to walk out of this marriage? Salma seems awkwardly comfortable in this relation whereas clearly there’s nothing left between her & Sikandar, so this makes her character kind of lifeless I’d say. All we know about her is that she works at a parlour & takes care of Iman who happens to be Sikandar’s daughter but other than that, no light has been shed on her emotions, which I think is definitely important to feel for a character.

Jamshed & Michelle’s meetings were done nicely however I found Michelle’s reactions a bit odd. She’s someone who knows the art of snubbing yet she was becoming speechless & uncomfortable in front of Jamshed. We’ve seen the way she easily ignored Rizwan’s proposal so I believe a bunch of flowers couldn’t have moved her the way it was shown. Once again, we know nothing about her past & we know nothing about her feelings as well. All I’ve ‘heard’ about Michelle is that she’s a divorcee & is anti-social, but what she feels, how hurt is she, what makes her sad, what makes her happy, all such details are clearly missing, not from her character but from all the characters except that of Asma & Jamshed’s because he often voices out his disappointments & this is what it makes me hard to connect to most of the characters of this drama.

I think 9 episodes are enough to develop the nature of all the characters but here it’s like we’re seeing such characters that’re living the life without actually living it; because they’re emotionless, feeling-less & because of this I also feel there’s some sort of a chemistry missing between them all too except Bhatti & Salma of course. Share your say please & feel free to disagree!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Sadqay Tumhare – Episode 6

I must give full marks to Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, the writer of the drama for having the guts to add those details of his life in this story which easily pass for skeletons in someone’s closet. I was reading Khalil-ur-Rehman’s interview the other day in which he stated that this story was not 100 percent true but it was more than that, there wasn’t a single scene in this story that was added for adding more drama to the narrative. This could be the reason why so many people have been able to connect to the story and the characters. The writer in his interview also said that people who believe in love and have experienced being in love alone can relate to this play…which would basically mean every second person of course!

What Shano revealed to Maulvi Sahab about the kind of intricate relationship and the ugly history which her mother shared with Khalil’s father, Khalil’s step-father and Khalil’s mother was nothing short of shocking! So many ugly truths in one go, yes I am sure many of us needed a glass of water to digest all of that. Shano has the satisfaction of knowing that the relationship between her and Khalil would be legitimate in the eyes of Allah if they were to get married. It was ironic that Rasheeda asked Shano to ask maulvi sahab about Khalil being a mehram or not when she left the house! I couldn’t help but wonder where Khalil’s father was now and if Shano knew all these details about her mother’s past then her father must know them too. Rasheeda also mentioned that this was Inayat’s second husband’s second marriage but we don’t know when that happened, who he was married to and whether the younger kids are his. There is obviously a great deal about this family which we need to know yet but that is not really important because the focal point of tonight’s episode like always remained the lead couple. The way Shano declared her love for Khalil in front of everyone who asked was a delight to watch; I love Shano’s boldness and Mahira Khan’s acting has added the charm which this character needed to make it what it is. Watching Qavi Khan play the maulvi was again a very good surprise, we don’t get to see actors like Qavi Khan and Irfan Khoosat gracing the screen with their presence when the roles that they are playing are not major ones, it just goes to show what great actors they are.

1

Khalil’s one liners … “agli baar tu mei akela hi jaun ga nahi tu wo mere Khalil honey pe shuk kare ga” “wakil ki bari tu baad mei ati hai doctor saab pehle Khalil ki baari ati hai” were very filmy and witty! They reminded me of those one liners from films that get very popular and are quoted over and over again! Khalil knew only too well what was coming his parents’ way but he was not the least bit scared of what Shano’s parents thought or said because the only thing that matters to him is Shano’s support everything else is of no consequence. Khalil narrated the whole story of his meeting with Shano to Maqsood and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of that scene although most often such scenes put me to sleep. Adnan Malik own his character in this show; I love his confidence.

Fayaaz’s character seems to be growing a spine, I would actually like to see an encounter between him and Khalil and see what he has to say for himself then! Mukarram Kaleem plays Mr. Loser flawlessly. The dialogue “phir meri kasam kha ke yeh bhi kaho ke tangay tor lo gay us ki” was hilarious! Should I be feeling sorry for Fayyaz because I think I do (wink wink).

Untitled

I do not have the words to praise Samiya Mumtaz’s laudable performance in tonight’s episode. The way she played the meethi churi was beyond brilliant. Rasheeda knows how to pull her husband’s strings and she makes good use of it. Khalil’s father said that Shano’s parents couldn’t just refuse this proposal that easily and perhaps he was right. That is the reason why Shano’s father asked his older brother who also happens to be Mr. Loser’s father to do the deed for him! Shano’s father took full responsibility for the decision although he is probably not even sure why he had to say no to Khalil’s parents in the first place! Rehan Sheikh plays the henpecked husband with absolute brilliance, he totally makes me forget Naimat Khan, that is what being versatile is all about.

Mahira Khan’s performance stayed top-notch throughout the episode. The first scene of tonight’s episode was badly dubbed especially because Mahira Khan’s acting was commendable but she was definitely not the one delivering the dialogues. Like every other episode of Sadqay Tumhare, this one too as simply beautiful, well done director sahab!! This is the kind of play that makes you laugh and cry with every character and every scene. Fayyaz made me laugh, Khalil made me go aww, Shano’s dialogues brought tears to my eyes and all the performances left me spell -bound.

So, how many people are in shock after hearing the truth about Shano’s mother and Khalil’s family tree? What questions arose in your mind after hearing what Shano told the maulvi sahab? That “najaiz rishta” dialogue in the last episode wasn’t so irrelevant after all!

And most importantly how many of you want that letter to be delivered to Khalil ASAP:)

Sindhi film announced after a long gap

Sindh, population wise is the second largest province of Pakistan having rich culture and traditions. Sindhi is also third or fourth largest spoken language in Pakistan. The first Sindhi film Umar Marvi was produced in mid 1950’s and later many Sindhi films were produced. However the circuit of Sindhi cinema was relatively limited as major urban center of Sindh like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukker also consists of considerable non-sindhi speakers. The Sindhi film making ultimately ended till late 1980’s or early 1990’s similar to Urdu and later Punjabi cinema.

Now after a gap of almost two decades drama writer/producer Zakaria Moheyuddin and Ali Masood have announced to produce a Sindhi film Baaghi. Shahbaz Mustafa is the music composer while Anwarul Hassan is the director of this film.

The Recent Victims of Dragging!

0

Any drama with the simplest story can be made engaging if its pace is steady. Obviously good acting counts along with mature writing skills (it’s not like anyone can write a drama) but the pace is what keeps us hooked.

Recently, our dramas reached India and were appreciated. The mature acting and writing was purchased, along with the fact that they have a few steady paced episodes unlike the dramas there. After this, directors , producers and writers should have started to work really hard in order to create more masterpieces which can be aired abroad. In spite of this, we are getting to see more victims of dragging!

1.Arranged Marriage:

I mentioned in a previous article that this drama needs to end. Despite that, it makes it to my list once again. The story is simple. A cheating, abusive, torturous husband manages to portray his innocent first wife as an evil woman in front of his parents and they give permission to this bechara to marry the love of his life. His second cunning wife is pregnant now and will probably lose her child as punishment for her sins.

This content did not need 20+ episodes but somehow ARY managed to drag it this far. Let’s see whether they’ll ever end it or not!

dayar 2

2. Chup Raho:

You knew this was gonna be here, didn’t you?

The topic is thought-provoking. When I heard about it for the first time, I thought this was going to be a fast paced drama telling victims of sexual abuse to stand up for their rights. But alas, I was mistaken. The drama is bold, but that’s not the issue here. The issue is the stretched and useless scenes which make viewers annoyed.

The most important thing is, that at least I don’t watch this drama for entertainment. I watch it with a serious mood in the hope that it will deal with the issue of sexual abuse. But that seems impossible.

3. Ishq Mein Aisa Bhi Haal Hona Hai:

Samra and Fajar’s father abandoned them because they were daughters. Samra and Adnan (Humayun Ashraf) are in love and newly engaged.  Adnan’s cousin Neha (Hiba Ali) , who is an orphan and has been brought up by her khala( i.e Adnan’s mother) is a rebellious and rude girl who gets used by a rich playboy Shahmir (Yasir Mazhar).  Adnan’s mother falls sick because of this stress and on her supposed deathbed asks, “Kon karega meri Neha se shadi?” (literally) And like a gallant warrior, Adnan decides to marry Neha to save his mother’s life. I don’t get what the dude was thinking but Samra gets it and she decides to end it with Adnan. There’s a side-track between Samra’s sister and her college mate who happens to be Shahmir’s cousin.

The drama is no doubt dragged. First few episodes were on Samra and Adnan’s endless calls, meetings and then the engagement preparations, the shopping spree and then finally the engagement. When Shahmir abandoned Neha and left for America with his newly wedded wife, there were endless crying scenes from Neha and then endless hospital scenes from her khala! Then Samra discovered what a cheat Adnan was and she cried for two episodes.

Let’s see what will happen when Samra’s mother finds out about Adnan and Neha’s Nikkah. I’ll keep tolerating the slow pace to find out who is Samra and Fajar’s father and what will happen to Shahmir now! SPOILER ALERT: I  think it’s Shahmir’s father.

Doosri Biwi coming soon on ARY Digital

Doosri Biwi coming soon ARY Digital, sounds really monotonous as dramas are already obsessed with the subject of Doosri Biwi.

But this Doosri Bivi is an upcoming drama of ARY Digital starring Fahad Mustafa, Maha Waarsi, Hareem Farooq, Ambar Khan and others. As per Fahad Mustafa, it is his last drama for the television for time being. The play is directed by Anjum Shahzad.

In recent times Anjum Shahzad has not impressed with his work like Kabhi Kabhi. Though Doosri Biwi sounds as a routine old story but both female leads Hareem Farooq and Maha Waarsi are relatively new faces. Maha Waarsi has worked with Fahad in Kankar. So this time around the character of Fahad Mustafa will have two new faces as wives. Earlier Fahad Mustafa has also starred in Mera Sayeen 2 where he married four five times.

“Shah Rukh Khan’s Movies Are My Favourite” – Mahira Khan

0

Every leading newspaper and channel in India wants to interview Mahira Khan because they know only too well that this beautiful and talented actress has made a very special place in the hearts of the Indian audience. Men and women alike have fallen in love with Khirad’s character and the actress who played that roles. India’s leading newspaper interviewed Mahira Khan. You can read the interview here:

How did you react to the response your show got in India?
It was amazing. I recently joined Twitter and have experienced craziness since. Yesterday, I was at a mall and people kept coming up to meet me. It has been quite humbling.

Have you watched any Indian serials?
In school, I saw Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (KSBKBT), but I haven’t seen any other shows. Kudos to the actors who were part of that show, as it (KSBKBT) went on forever. I freak out even when I get a drama with 29 episodes; I feel the story gets too long.

What do you think of Bollywood films?
They are far more advanced, while our film industry is still re-emerging right now. I loved the black-and-white movies of the ’50s and ’60s, including films like Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa (1957) and Dilip Kumar’s Tarana (1951). Shah Rukh Khan’s movies are my favourite. As a teenager, I watched Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995) during breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was obsessed with it.

mahira khan10

Are you interested in working in Bollywood?
I would love to. There were some rumours about a film with Ranveer Singh, but they were untrue. Right now, I am not working on any Hindi film.

Does your marital status affect the kind of work you get?
Not in Pakistan. You tend to take up lesser work as you give more time to your personal life once you have a family. I’m lucky to be offered good work, and I maintain a balance between my work and personal life. Our industry has a family-friendly environment. Cinema is still considered an art in Pakistan and not a business.

The Indian fans were a lot going gaga over Fawad Khan, after watching Hamsafar they have fallen head over heels in love with Mahira Khan too. Mahira Khan is on a trip to India in which she will meet her fans in Mumbai, Delhi and Lucknow.

I, on behalf of my entire Pakistani entertainment industry, want to state that we are humbled to receive so much appreciation from this country. The kind of love and adulation that has been showered on my show ‘Humsafar’ and my character Khirad, is truly exhilarating. India is a beautiful country that values talent and I consider myself amongst the lucky few from Pakistan to have my work recognized and appreciated here. All my love and gratitude to the viewers.”

7

Priyanka Datta who is the Business Head of Zindagi channel which has introduced the Indian viewers to Pakistani dramas said, “The response to Zindagi has been overwhelming to say the least and we thank our audiences for this unconditional acceptance for good storytelling. Our aim is to cater to the new age women with progressive mind-sets whose primary concern is to create a perfect work-life balance. Whether it is Kashaf of ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’, Aiman of ‘Maat’, Sadaf of ‘Thakan’ or Khirad of ‘Humsafar’, all the leading ladies in our shows are the reflection of today’s women with progressive mind-sets. As a representative of Pakistani entertainment industry, Mahira sets the perfect example for Zindagi’s target audience.”

Shanakht – Episode 13! <3

0

OO EM JEE! I don’t know how much I’ve missed this play & finally so glad to have it back on-air tonight. So good to get the weekly dose of Shanakht & I must say I am absolutely impressed with the theme of this play. I think very intelligently they’ve stepped into another boundary of showing how two people can not only have a positive impact on their families but how their attitude influences the life of others as well. I think I am never going to have enough words to praise the mindset of the writer for coming up with such a unique story with so much positivity & so many well-placed intricate lessons.

Finally, Annie has become a very important part of Rohaan’s family. It was so good to see her MIL especially making an effort to show how much she’s pleased with her DIL & how much she endears her. I love the director’s take on this aspect that families do tend to take some time in accepting new family members & it does depend on both the parties as to how they mend their ways & walk an extra mile to adjust to each other’s calibre. In this case it depended on Annie to contain herself & give Rohaan’s family the time they needed to wholeheartedly accept her & luckily for her, that time has arrived.

I must say I love the way this story has moved forward. I think this story has had so many phases that flowed in conjunction & everything was executed with perfection. It started at a point where both Annie & Rohaan had to face the objection only of their families. They then worked on themselves just so that they can lead by example. While their families were still somehow struggling to accept their transformation, they both got married. Now it was time for both the families to accept their new family members. Annie & Rohaan once again stayed determined because of the power of Imaan, knowing that one day their families will not only accept them for who they were but will also shower them with the love that they both deserved. Now when this level has been taken care of in a way that first the immediate & then the extended family got to understand their way of life, the third phase of the story has begun where now the writer has tried to show that when you are on a right path, you not only have a positive influence on your family members, but also on your relatives & on your social circle as well. That’s why we saw the change in Haris’s attitude & now seems like Shireen, Faryaal & Hashim are left to get influenced. I must say this has been such a nice journey to experience because I loved the way both Annie & Rohaan’s characters have shown to be so influential & positive that everyone around them is getting persuaded to change their perspective about them & the people who are religious like them. I never thought that this drama would have so many detailed lessons without being so preachy & boring. <3

It was pretty evident that Haris’s parents didn’t know anything about what was going on between Kashaf & Haris. They obviously supported him because they were oblivious of the personal details of how much Haris himself was at fault but now it was time for Haris to understand that what he did was wrong & he had to made amends. As much as he didn’t want to, he himself couldn’t resist getting impressed by Rohaan’s sensibility & his forgiving nature. It was good to see that without dragging the matter further, they showed that Kashaf & Haris reconciled where it was Haris who realized his mistake without having anyone convince him once again. The conversation Kashaf had with Annie was beautifully written where very subtly Annie tried to make her understand that she needs to elevate the level of her Imaan as well. I so wish we get to see the happy-go-lucky Kashaf once again because hopefully her tough days are numbered & with this, Huma acknowledged Rohaan as her own son, which was heart-warming as well.

I think finally after a long gap we got to see Rohaan having some chit chat with her sisters. It was absolutely a treat to watch him being himself. I think Rohaan’s journey was as tough as Annie’s because he was seeing his wife, mother & sisters struggling to come to terms with each other but now when that was sorted, we got to see the real Rohaan who believed in only spreading smiles around him.

Ohkay, before saying anything about Hashim, Faryaal & Shireen’s situation I must say I disliked the way Hashim looked & smiled at Annie – Home-Wrecker Alert anyone? LOL! I know he was just looking at Annie with admiration because she has grown into this decent & graceful lady that anyone would think highly of her but sorry Noor Hassan has had a track record of such sort that I can’t help fearing something unpleasant. :/ Anyways, I think Shireen is being unreasonable where she expects Faryaal to become responsible & learn how to fulfil her expectations overnight. She must understand that she must give the benefit of doubt to Faryaal as a newlywed because she definitely comes from a different background & has a whole different mindset. I don’t know about you guys but I actually enjoyed & giggled seeing Faryal’s predicament because her character totally justifies the behaviour of a newly wedded young bride & I don’t see any problem with her. She’s just being herself & only wants to be pampered by the man she loves & who supposedly loves her too. I think it now depends on Hashim to maintain a balance between the two ladies & also make ways to draw them both closer to each other. As much as we know about Hashim, he has always been impatient & a quitter, that’s why in just a few days he seemed so frustrated at his domestic situation. I think this was another great development in the story that Hashim & Rohaan have once again come in contact with each other where they’ll spend more time together so that Rohaan will be able to help Hashim in overcoming the commotion that’s has overtaken his life. I think before doing anything, Hashim needs to bring a change in himself because very easily he gets agitated at his family members which only showcases his weaknesses & nothing else.

So, this is it from my side. I can’t stop praising this drama. I must say when Shanakht began, people in general thought that it would be just a very typical, preachy & one-dimensional drama which should be dissed because nowhere in Muslim countries do girls face such objections & without having a chance to get acquainted with the beautiful characters of Annie & Rohaan, they focused more on Maya Ali’s Hijab style & stuff like that, but I so wish that people give this drama another chance & watch it patiently just to see that the story of Annie & Rohaan is more than just a story of a Muhajabba & a man with a Beard. Shanakht is a story of two people with ethics, morals, values & substantial, positive & influential characters. Share your say please. :)
