Kadurat – A Happy Ending

0

I am usually not a big fan of unrealistic endings but I have to say that I am relieved that this play did not have a realistic ending. Every character in Kadurat suffered so much in the past episodes that by the end of the play I wanted their problems to end. It is highly unlikely that someone with issues as complicated as Mina’s can completely change but it is also true that good communication, understanding and love can change a great deal. Sometimes people need a wake up call and Shaheen gave Mina just that. The way in which Doctor Zohaib’s character bridged the communication gap between Mina and her father in particular was actually quite good because I wouldn’t have liked it if the doctor didn’t have a substantial role to play in the story. Tonight’s episode like all others belonged to Sanam Saeed, she completely stole the show by making the viewers feel for her character and giving them a reason to forgive her. Sanam Saeed’s performance was outstanding throughout the serial, she owned this character right from the get-go.

kad1
This was a very fairytale ending in which practically everyone got what they wanted and they truly lived happily ever after. Mahmood finally realized that no matter what kind of a person Mina was the fact was that she is her daughter and he cannot run away from that responsibility. Mahmood’s first mistake was to bring a second wife with children to Mina’s life without ever asking her how she felt about it. I thought I would never hear Mahmood accepting all his mistakes but he did just that. Everyone realized where they had gone wrong and most often such realization is good enough to set things straight.

kad2
I watched this last episode with a smile on my face and it was a little emotional too. Atiqa stayed level headed right till the end. There were times when I thought her attitude was annoying but mostly I really liked her character. Her confidence was actually very inspiring.
Deepak Perwani has a very unique style of acting and I have always liked it. He was perfect for the role he played in Mere Pass Pass and he was also ideal for playing the role of Mahmood. I have to admit though that Mahmood’s lack of understanding for many things was somewhat unbelievable sometimes. There were times when I thought he lacked commonsense even.

kad4
Imran Aslam is a superb actor, there is o denying that but I must confess that I liked him much more in Sanjha and Nikhar Gaye Gulab Saare. Nida Khan’s acting needs a lot of improvement but that doesn’t stop the producers from casting her in leading roles! I know only too well that most of the people here are not big fans of Momal Sheikh’s acting but I liked her in this one. She played the role of the insecure/scared girl nicely.
Overall, this was a very decent ending and one that I enjoyed watching. The drama ended rather early compared to the rest of the serials which must complete 20 episodes or so no matter what. Did you watch this last episode? Do share your views about it.

Mujhe Khuda Pe Yakeen Hai – Episode 15

0

Ohkay so it’s official (not that it wasn’t before) that this serial is an epitome of imperfection. I think when the logic ended this drama came into materialization. Whoever the writer & the director are, they deserve a standing ovation for pulling this piece of crap & actually succeeding in annoying us. Spare me for I’m furious about the time of mine that has been wasted, phew!

The pattern of each of the episodes is similar where Arham is happy at one moment & the very next he wants to die & go to hell ASAP (which I wish he would). Areeba pulls off this constipated face every time & succeeds in irritating us to limits. Samina Begum knows Narmeen’s ill-mannered but everytime she becomes a saas & wants to pass a statement to correct Narmeen & later she regrets speaking to her. Sarah’s just a filler to fill the not-so-happy family picture. Shahiq is a pain…pain to watch, pain to listen to & a pain to tolerate. Shakeel sahab runs this high-end business but in my opinion lacks basic knowledge or a know-how of how an elder should be. He is as unreasonable as one CAN’T be!

I just don’t understand the sequence of this drama & why was this even perceived or why didn’t the actors who are so-called so much experienced in this industry pointed out to the director that he was committing such huge & petty mistakes. I just don’t get why was the drama even made? It’s such a huge disappointment or we can say that it’s like a black mark on their careers. Arham’s fits are just out of control & for this reason I believe he needs to visit a shrink ASAP, because his predicament is now getting funnier & unreasonable, as he seems pretty fine being a stay-at-home man so why does he want to move out of his parents’ house?

I thought Narmeen was never coming back after getting slapped because she ran with a speed of light but the very next moment she was seen sitting on a bed bickering with Shahiq as usual. I just don’t get why every dialogue of Narmeen has to begin with ‘tum mujh pe taunt maar rahay ho?‘ I mean obviously everyone IS targeting you so why do you confirm every time? Just understand it, deal with it like you do animally & shut it Narmeen. Narmeen clearly wore some beige churridaar when she was in her saas sasur’s room but the very next moment when she came back to her room she had a change of bottoms in black trousers. I wonder her walk-in closet was in between the rooms of her sasur & her own. I just hate when she yells unnecessarily to make a mount of a molehill.

Of all the people I thought only Shakeel was impaired from re-calling the past but this time he burst my bubble pretty well by remembering something old which never made any sense. Shahiq hit Narmeen but in response to that Shakeel uncle went to fetch a petty detail from the past. Everyone knows she’s an evil of a kind still they don’t want to do anything about it. & oh at a mention of evil, I would want to thank the director for not showing Narmeen’s mother in this particular episode. She’s another evil on the loose.

I have never ever seen such a hideous drama where nothing makes sense. Accha, all this while when the drama began we never saw any lady of the house working ever but lately they want to show us k baray ghar ki auntiyaan bhi kaam karti hain so that’s why each one of them is chamach-phairing in a pan to show how mehanti they are. I hope any person in-charge from Hum Tv reads the review & the comments of every viewer & quit this show ASAP because it’s nothing but a waste of prime-time slot on every Tuesday. This show must END.

Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Mikaal Zulfiqaar Receives Extortion Notes (Bhatta Parchi)

0

City of Lights, Karachi, is also known as city of opportunities whenever we talk about showbiz. Headquarters of most popular TV channels like Hum TV,Ary Digital,Samaa Tv etc lies in Karachi due to which most of famous showbiz personalities prefer living in Karachi so that they can manage their personal and professional life efficiently.

Mikaal-Zulfiqar-1

With equal opportunities, crime rate of Karachi is also increasing every passing day thus increasing risk to people’s life. Kidnapping, target killing and thugs found everywhere are issues that are not new for city like Karachi. Unluckily, our media personalities are also not safe while living in Karachi.

Rumors were spread that Mikaal Zulfiqar is the man who is now approached by Karachi underworld Mafia and he is getting continuous calls for extortion (illegal tax) and death threats. And it has been now confirmed that Mikaal received Bhatta parchi (illegal tax note) from Mafia for so long and the amount they ask to pay was in Billions.

Consequently, Mikaal has left Karachi and now has been relocated to Islamabad so that he will live in peace here. For his shootings, he requested all the producers that under these circumstances, he cant complete his projects while living in Karachi so all recordings are to be done in Islamabad.

In recent past, it was also rumored that Sajal Ali received extortion notes too. Seems that they are targeting highly paid artists of showbiz only.We pray that not only our showbiz personalities, but also every single individual stay safe in our country.

Raise your voice for such incidents happening these days.

Stay Blessed,
Rabia Basharat.

Ranjish Hi Sahi – Episode 4

0

The dialogue “firaq ki dhoop buhat tez hai Yumna, mera sabar pighalne laga hai” may have sounded filmy but I loved it. Ranjish Hi Sahi has been very sweet and simple right from the first episode. The play is not overemotional or heavy duty in any way but it is definitely the sort of play that appeals to you because of its simple yet engaging narrative. The highlight of tonight’s episode had to be Yumna’s decision to tie the knot with Kamal. I really liked the way in which the viewers were shown the transition in Yumna’s attitude towards Kamal. Kamal Hassan’s honesty regarding what is between him and Yumna has been very pleasing. Even when Yumna tells him that she needs him in his life, he knows only too well that Yumna’s decision is based on practicality and not just love, whereas he is still madly in love with her. When he gets confused and worried because of the chance meeting with his brother in law, he is very straightforward about the reason why he was disturbed all of a sudden. Kamal Hassan’s character is very likeable and Faisal Rehman fits perfectly in this role.

rhs2

Yumna has not been able to muster up the courage to talk to Hiba about her decision and rightly so too because Hiba is very possessive about her mother. I am waiting for the time when Yumna will break the news to her and I am dreading the thought that she may find out in a way which may not be ideal. The relationship between Hiba and Tooba has been shown very nicely; they maybe poles apart but they have a very strong bond.

rhs4

Am I the only one who cannot figure out who Arsal is really attracted to? I think the confusion is intentional and I find it very interesting. Arsal calls to talk to Tooba but if the expression “opposites attract” is true then Arsal and Hiba are meant to be together. Mohammad Ali and Maya Ali have great on screen chemistry and I am definitely rooting for Hiba and Arsal as long as Tooba does not have feelings for Arsal. The way Tooba feels about having boyfriends and having ties with boys in general is very cute. I like both the tracks in the story; it is a story of young and old romance and I am thoroughly enjoying both.

rhs6

From everything that we have heard about Kamal’s wife till now we can safely conclude that she is a very domineering person. The episode ended at a very exciting note with Kamal’s wife introducing herself to Yumna. There is probably going to be a confrontation between the two and the fact that Yumna’s daughters will be listening to it is not going to be very comforting for her. Yumna is not the kind of person who can handle such a situation but Kamal Hassan seems to be confident enough to deal with it all. The title of the drama however indicates that Kamal and Yumna may not have a happy life together. Ranjish hi sahi dil hi dukhane ke liye aa, aa phir se mujhe chor ke janay ke liye aa, does not sound very promising.

rhs1

The pace of the drama has been very steady and the direction has been quite impressive. The story may not be something out of the ordinary but the play has been written nicely. Mohammad Ali’s acting was quite convincing in this episode, now only if our male actors will stop overdoing the pink lipstick and he needs to stop grinning. Maya Ali needs to pay a little more attention to her looks, I like that she is confident enough to wear very little make up but her hair did look very shabby in this episode. Overall, Ranjish Hi Sahi continues to be very promising with a feel of its own. It is definitely a good play to watch on a weekday.

Upcoming Movie ‘Karachi’ Soon To Release In 2014!

0

Here comes another one in the list. ‘Karachi’ is an upcoming Pakistani film which is said to be released early in 2014. Now that the industry is launching hit movies one after another, the young directors and the production houses are considering this domain of entertainment a free market to generate some decent revenue.

The movie comes under the production of ‘Karachi Production’ and is produced by Ahtsham Khalid and Syed Afzal Ali. Agha Ali is one of the multitalented artists who know the difference in between being a good actor and being a capable director. He is lately been seen in Hum TV dramas playing lead roles. He was seen in a sitcom ‘Main Hari Piya’ and is currently playing an important role of ‘Aamir’ in drama serial ‘Halki Si Khalish’.  The actor, for his love towards direction, often comes up with projects which are been directed by him and with ‘Karachi’, Agha Ali will be seen as an actor on screen and his direction will be sensed throughout the movie. Moreover, the story and the screenplay is too written by this young director.

The cast of the movie includes a list of veteran actors like Javed Sheikh, Ayesha Toor, Rashid Farooqi, Madiha  Iftikhar, Shahroz Sabzwari, Agha Ali, Ali Sikandar, Sadia Sheikh, Ijaz Aslam, Adnan Jaffar and Tipu Adnan.

Education of Islam by Hindu Nationalists?

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) (National Volunteer Organization or National Patriotic Organization) is a right-wing,Hindu nationalist group of India. RSS is termed as extremist Hindu organization and often blamed for instigating violence against minorities in India, including Muslims and Christians. A former RSS member Nathuram Godse assassinated Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also known as Mahatama Gandhi by Indians. RSS and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) are often blamed for involvement in demolition of Babri Mosque in 1992 as well.

As per BBC (British Broadcasting Corpoation), a new channel to educate Islam to Muslims will be launched. The name of the channel is Paigham TV. The channel is run by a former RSS Pracharak (Preacher) Girish Juyal. Though RSS has denied any link with this channel. RSS supporters already run an Urdu Newspaper in India Paigham Madre Watan and now a new TV channel will be launched.

However the Paigham TV of RSS is different from Paigham TV (www.paigham.tv) which is a Pakistani religious channel.

Here is actual news as published on BBC

Danish Taimoor will make his film Debut with upcoming movie ‘Jalaibee’

0

Pakistani audience is becoming habitual of expecting some good projects from the filmmakers of the country who have, by now, figured out what the audience really want to see on big screens. It is, however, important to mention that the TV artists have a great role in the rival of the Pakistani film industry. With so many movies lined up to be released early in 2014, Danish Taimoor, too, will be making his debut with a feature film ‘Jalaibee’.

Been directed by Yasir A Jaswal, the movie comes under the production of Jaswal Films and S3RMAD Films.

Apart from Danish Taimoor, the movie enjoys a rich starcast where Ali Safina, Adnan Jaffar, Ali Rehman, Uzair Jaswal, Waqar Ali Khan and Zhalay Sarhadi will be seen playing major roles. Ali Rehman is cherished by the audience for his flawless acting in drama serial ‘Rishtay Kuch Adhooray se’. Though it is yet not possible to state more on the script of the movie, unofficial sources state that Zhalay plays a real bold character in the film.

The movie is been shot in Islamabad and currently is under the process.

We succeeded in compiling some on set photos of the cast of this upcoming movie.

Review: Shakk Episode 5

0

Since my last review I had decided to do a self court martial this time round. So ladies and gentlemen let’s start.

I kid a lot/bohat bongiyan marta hoon mein

Oxford Dictionary does not provide a definition of bongi or bongiyan so you’d have to rely on my definition (Ok I am not exactly an Englishman but no harm in trying) a bongi is something containing nonsense which annoys people and has no real meaning or substance. Phew! So much English in one go, let me breath! Sorry, bongi once again. You know I cannot do away with these bongis (bolay baghair raha na jaye!) But on a serious note, I just try to spice up the goings by adding a little humour only to make my readers smile and enjoy my review. It’s also part of my efforts to make people see the lighter side of things what with so much seriousness already being showcased on our TV Screens. And it might be new for you people but nowhere did I read that a review has to be dead-serious only. We joke and laugh about plays we love as well.

My reviews are superficial/lack depth (kitnay meters yeh kisi ne naheen bataya!)

It could very well be true. I admit I am a thick headed person aur dimagh pe zor deney ke liye sir pe weights bhee naheen rakhta mein,to kiya karoon! I present to you my analysis as an ordinary viewer. There could be viewers who understand or analyze the play more than me, I excuse myself from them. Just consider me a less mortal than you. But I can make a humble effort on character analysis which I am presenting here.

Ali: A person who has a rough exterior but a soft side inside, this we saw today when he punished his son first then went on to say sorry when the kid was sleeping and didn’t want to mention it to Sania. He’s also one who cannot take pressure. When under pressure, he starts blaming others around him including his wife. He is totally devoted to his mother, maybe she raised him single handedly or it’s due to other reasons but as of now we don’t know the real reason.

Sania: Sania is a lively fun loving person but life doesn’t give her enough opportunities to enjoy or show her capabilities. Is this Sania’s nature to be docile or maybe it’s her background. As of know we don’t even know the circumstances which made her marry Ali after her engagement with Ehtesham was called off. Maybe her mother-in-law knows this and might use it at some later time but we do not know. She is also caring for the feelings of others and can stand up for her son.

Sania’s mother-in-law: She is an attention seeker and cannot bear to have attention drawn from her on any instance. Whenever she sees even the remotest chance of this happening, she creates a scene and mostly she uses her son without knowing that. Maybe she is not happy so she cannot see others happy either and in the process she doesn’t even spare her grandson.

Sehrish: Sehrish is a sweet person, she gets attached to others easily and can go to any length for them. She can behave like a child at times and is a bahu and wife anyone would wish for. She is also possessive about her husband and keeps track of him, that showed when she got up immediately when she saw Ehtesham going out of the room to call someone. It could come to play once she starts suspecting him later in the play.

Ehtesham: He is totally devoted towards his wife Sehrish, he loves her more than she loves him and can fight with the world for her. He is also a simpleton and cannot see through people.

Hope it satisfies you people,ub bhee naheen hue ap satisfy to paisay wapis kar deta hoon J This is my humble character analysis which could very well be wrong. Again, the characters keep on evolving so too much character analysis or guessing is not good (again my opinion).

I don’t love the play/find faults with it

Lagta hai ap logon kee amee ne ap ko kabhee naheen kaha ‘yeh shirt change karo, achee naheen lag rahee’ or ‘Jaa k bal katwao ta k insan lago’. It doesn’t mean your mother doesn’t love you, on the contrary we want our loved ones to be flawless. That’s why we keep on pointing their flaws to them, same is the case with me. I love this drama that’s why I took up reviewing it. I like it, find it realistic and relatable and cute on so many levels. Ub mein electricity pole pe charh k to prove karnay se raha that I love this play and the minor glitches I point out stem out of my love and attention for this play. Phir bhee kisi ko shakk hai to koi bat naheen, dramay ka nam bhee shakk hee hai. Let’s follow the spirit of the play J

Ok, enough court martial. We can now discuss today’s episode a bit along with my quite less of my characteristic bongiyan that you people are fed up with.

Today’s episode was again fast paced like Fast & Furious. It showed that Ehtesham’s sister Zara wants her mother to come back and take care of her special child. Although Ehtesham and more than Ehtesham, Sehrish does not want her to go, she still decides to go but not without lecturing Ehtesham about taking good care of Sehrish during her pregnancy. Here we also get a clue about a future event when Sehrish says what if something happens to her in the absence of her mother-in-law and she admonishes her on saying such things. Ali is also settling in, he is having a meeting with some place regarding set up of his business at his house (of all the places!) and in the middle his mother throws a tantrum that she’s not been fed her fruits, Ali calls up Sania to give fruits to his mother, she goes and during this time, Roomi messes up Ali’s papers (pakka nishana hai bachchay ka). Ali punishes him by making him stand outside the door, Roomi runs to his favourite spot, Sehrish’s house. Sehrish and Ehtesham are away to drop Ehtesham’s mother to airport so Roomi forces his way inside. His parents are worried and in his worry and tense state Ali is even on the verge of picking up a fight with Roomi. Later on, Roomi is found dancing in Sehrish’s bedroom and is taken away. Ali says sorry to Roomi while he is sleeping and even tries to talk to Ehtesham on which the episode ends.

The good thing about this episode was that we didn’t get to see the most irritating couple on earth Maham & Atif. Looks like Allah Mian listened to us and enslaved them in a cave on top of Mount Everest (just hope us cave ka darwaza koi na khol de warna merey sir mein jitney bal reh gaye hain who khenchnay se gaye!). The kid’s dancing scene was also cute (aww as the girls say!). The only glitch was that it was very easy to get into Sehrish’s house. This house must be a heaven for thieves! Let’s see where do we go from here. Do comment on the review, is se rating achee atee hai (as the TV channels people say!) And don’t worry I will make up for less bongiyan in this week’s review in next week’s one. Aj mein zara senti ho gaya tha!

Numm – Episode 13

0

Numm finally seems to be getting better, this latest installment was engaging enough. The performances by some of the actors still remain unimpressive and the drama does not qualify as extraordinary but tonight’s episode along with the past two were far better than the previous few episodes. Everything that transpired in the past three episodes should have been shown after the 5th episode, that way the viewers would’ve had less to complaint about.

Bare Sahab clearly spelled out the way he wants to see Wali as a person. Haqeeqat pasandi in his eyes is a virtue, which in other words would mean having no mercy for anyone who stands in the way of your vested interests. Wali in Bare Sahab’s opinion has a long way to go since he is incapable of putting his own self above everyone else. Bare Sahab knows that he and those after him can only keep on exercising unlimited powers if the system continues to function the way it has been functioning for centuries. His thinking reflects the typical thinking of a feudal.

numm1

Wali apparently knows about Qasim but is clearly very disturbed when Mahjabeen tells him that she wants to talk about Qasim for obvious reasons. Neelam and Mahjabeen’s conversation was actually quite amusing! Mahjabeen tries to convince Neelam that she has suffered enough and Neelam tried her best to find out who that “boy” was….the “boy” bit made me laugh, it definitely sounded strange. Neelam looked like a little girl who had just discovered someone’s dirty secret and was out to make the most of it. I have to say though that the way Neelam thought things through before talking to Wali about Qasim was not in line with her character at all.

Wali and Neelam’s coversation in the hospital about whether he knew what Neelam was about to tell him or not was hilarious, I felt like I was watching a comic scene from Bulbulay where the confusion was meant to make people laugh. Fawad Khan looked bored and disinterested. In fact there was nothing impressive about his acting in this episode. Maybe because, he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do. He did seem confused more than anything else.

numm2

Mahjabeen did not budge an inch after Bare Sahab ordered her to leave for Bakht house immediately. Her conversation with Bare Sahab had to be the only meaningful conversation in this episode. Mahjabeen and Qasim’s meetings in the house are getting more frequent and the preview of the next episode seemed alarming.

One of the primary reasons why Numm has failed to hit a home run with me is that the characters have not impressed me at all. How can you possibly enjoy a play without falling in love with the characters. I have not been able to relate to the trials and tribulations of Mahjabeen. There are times when I feel for Neelam but that is only because she comes across as a child who is stuck in a very complicated situation. There are times when I find myself so busy trying to figure out where Kanza Wyne is going wrong with her acting that I cannot concentrate on anything else. There isn’t anything that one can possibly like about Wali’s character. The play could have been better if the scenes were much shorter.

Did you watch this latest installment or have you given up on Numm? Do share your views.

As per the latest news, it has been heard that Sanam is quite upset with a private channel as the channel has casted someone else inspite of her in its upcoming film.

Male Actors Who Wear More Makeup Than Their Heroines

0

My sincerest apologies for the blunt title and the bluntness that will ensue in the discussion but these actors really need to know that there is a difference between polishing your looks a little through make up and going overboard. When I see these actors on the television screen my first instinct is to pick up a face wipe so that I can clean all that make up off of their faces. All male actors wear makeup because that is a per-requirement for looking presentable on screen but some actors feel a dire need to wear more make up than is necessary. This post is not meant to offend anyone but it is more of an earnest request to these artist to smooth down their makeup.

Ahsan Khan

The colored lenses, mascara, eye shade, blush on and pink lipstick is a routine with Ahsan Khan. He looks decent enough with a little foundation and some soft color lenses but he obviously does not think so!

ahsankh

Fahad Mustafa

Fahad Mustafa wasn’t always loaded with makeup before but now he wears so much make up that sometimes one cannot help and appreciate the amount of effort he puts into looking “pretty”! The straight shiny silk hair, heavy foundation, glossy lips, perfectly shaped eyebrows and the eye makeup does not add to his good performance but just invites unwanted criticism.

fahad mustafa

Mohib Mirza

I remember the way Mohib looked when he started coming in dramas, he has come a long way since then and I do not mean that in a good way as far as his looks are concerned. The straightened hair, arched eyebrows and all the makeup only shows that he is not comfortable with his looks. Why can’t men accept that there is nothing wrong with having a tan complexion? The eyebrows too should be just neatened and not shaped so that you appreciate the hero’s eyebrows more than the heroines.

mohib mirza

Imran Abass

Imran Aslam is the same as rest of the actors. Sometimes the shades of his lipstick are so good that they completely overshadow the lip color his heroines are wearing. I particularly remember noticing that in Dil-e-Muztar!

imran abbas

Adeel Chaudhry

As compared to rest of the names in the list he is very new to the industry but it is very obvious that he takes his makeup very seriously. He pays more attention to his styling and makeup than his acting, the hairstyles, highlights and overly done makeup cannot make up for bad acting skills!

adeelch

Do you feel annoyed when you see talented actors wearing so much makeup when they can look equally well without it all? There are many actors who wear makeup that compliments their looks, these actors should take some lessons from them

Geo’s hit formula

0

These days all the channels strive for higher and higher ratings. In this rat race (never mind cats!)they are willing to do anything. These days Geo Entertainment is at the top ratings wise.Let’s analyze some of their dramas and try to find out their success formulas

1- Numm
No need for a proper script or coherent storyline.Just get a heart throb hero and an aged actress, don’t forget to cast a beautiful young mannequin also, don’t pay the mannequin just tell her she can scream at everyone in sight and that too to her heart’s content and take out her entire life’s frustations.since there’s proper script ask the actors to remain silent most of the times or stare at each other. The people will watch and bite their fingers at this abstract piece of art and since most of the budget had already been spent on casting the hearthrob hero, the shooting is carried out in morose blue tones. The story (read the lack of it) never mind there’s always this hero sandwiched between two women story that’s already being played in a dozen or so dramas on air.One more such show won’t hurt anyone!Even if nothing else will work, people will watch it for the hearthrob hero and then curse the drama and its makers only to watch the next episode and the next and the next. There we have a big hit.

numm4

2- Mann Ke Moti
Everybody loves a roti dhoti woman, right. Now don’t say you don’t for its your love for crying women that have made this drama a roaring success on the ratings chart.Audiences and makers’ love for crying women has led to a huge increase in bucket sales (buckets to collect tears shed by our drama heroines such as heroine of this drama).Economic activity indeed! This drama also has all kind of tragedies you can think of all kind of tragedies that A&B Productions is famous for.You have a heroine whose first husband has passed away leaving her with three children, her extremely evil mother, her forced marriage to a second man who just considers her a caretaker of his son and then there are miseries of the three children also. What novel story, what new-to-the-world concept! But never mind jealous writers like me,the audience loves it and that’s all that matters. They also keep their buckets firmly under them while watching this show.

mkm

3- Asmano Pe Likha
Another very popular show, how can I forget it!The story can be copied from an Indian Show.Yes no harm in copying,no one would know!Once you have done that, cast a youthful couple and add a filmy dash of the hero marrying the girl instantaneously just as her to-be-husband left the wedding avenue with his family. Now the boy’s father and his girl friend want him to divorce his wife at the earliest while the wife does not want this till her father gets well.Amazing story, right and amazing scenario!Reminds me of Pakistani Movies of 60s and 70s where the hero protected the ‘girl’s honour’ by doing such antics.I thought we’d phased that phase.Unfortunately,I was wrong. The period lives on and again the audiences love it so I am a jealous writer once again! In this story,do make sure you cast a handsome all-smiles actor who remains confused about where he has been taken, kidnapped,oh no!Such things only happen in Pakistani dramas not on drama sets.

apl

4- Saari Bhool Hamari Thi
Girl trusts her tai ami more than her mother as she’s raised in a joint family set up.Falls for the wrong guy and Tami Ami is as lalchi and as black a character as it could get.Wonderful and again new-to-the-world story and concept, right?Do add lots of negative behaviours of other characters and goody-two-shoes all white characters, chip in girls running from home and the usual dramatic consequences, rural urban setup that looks straight out of Ptv Drama Waaris (only less authentic) and we have got Saari Bhool Hamari Thi.The actors don’t do a very bad job but the story, ahem! The less the jealous writer says the better :)Plus the lead actress Aiza is seen in so many dramas currently that I forget whether I am watching Adhoori Aurat or Saari Bhool or …never mind. She’s popular and you people want to see her.And before I forget,it’s another crying woman story we all love so long live the buckets and bucket makers.

sbht

There’s Ik Kask Reh Gayee,Meri Maa and Meri Zindagi Hai Tu also but the less said about them the better. And to further entertain us,Geo is now coming up with another sotailee-maa-kee-satayee-huee-mazloom-larkee story, wonder if Maria Wasti who plays the lead here could be called a larki! But then again my eye sight is quite weak so you never know, this play titled Kalmoohi would have bucket makers clap again with joy!

TOP 5 Most Expensive Celebrities in Pakistan’s Drama Industry

0

Turning into an actor and cashing your skills the best seems one of the easiest ways to become rich. However, like any other profession, even this one demands much of your time, hard work and talent, especially when you are newly launched.

Now that our television industry has groomed a lot and is now enjoying a huge viewership not only within the country but all over the world, our artists seem wise enough to cash their talent the best they can. Out of many popular celebrities who are considered as an expensive actor to afford, here are the top 5 actors who are demanding high packages from producers.

aaa

1)      Fawad Khan

Fawad_afzal_khan_image_18

Is it really shocking to find this out? Fawad Khan has turned into a leading actor after his blockbuster hits like ‘Humsafar’ and ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’. As per the resources, he tops the list of most expensive actors in Pakistani film Industry.

2)      Faisal Qureshi

tumblr_m9bdhhDXPj1rzzu7ho1_500

Faisal Qureshi and Humayun Saeed can be considered as the real heroes of this revival of drama industry who are cherished by the Pakistani audience for whatever role they are seen in.  Faisal, after realizing his real worth in this field has also increased his rates and has been lately choosing the projects on the basis of packages been offered.

3)      Mikaal Zulfiqar

mekaal_54

Either it is his luck or his good looks which have contributed largely in turning this model a real actor. Besides the fact that he is considered to be an important player in the showbiz industry, the fact persists that there are people who do not find themselves convinced with his acting skills!

Following the footsteps of Fawad Khan, Mikaal has too increased his worth and now demands six digit packages.

4)      Sajal Ali

sajal

Now this one has literally shocked me. This young actress is currently considered to be an expensive actress at the moment.  It was previously that I shared a news stating that Sajal was receiving threats on calls in Karachi. She has officially proclaimed herself as an actress who is expensive to afford, however, regardless of her high rates, she is seen frequently on different channels, playing major roles.

5)      Saba Qamar

saba

Saba is surely a multitalented Pakistani icon who is loved by the audience regardless of factors like age, culture and location. She received a huge applause for portraying so much negativity on screen as Saman in drama serial ‘Maat’ and then playing a powerful character in dramas like ‘Na Kaho tum Mere nahi’, ‘Yahan  Pyar nahi hai’ and ‘Ullu Baraye Farukht nahi’.

She is also selecting projects on the basis of packages which are been offered currently.

Mere Humrahi Episode 14 – Ahad’s Shocking Behaviour!

0

So we saw some more shocking developments in the show this week. Ahad’s cheap behavior in the last episode was just a demonstration; he literally crossed all his limits in this episode! His obsession with Haaniyah has just reached another level now. He is practically after Haaniyah’s life!

He is still under the misconception that Haaniyah is in love with him and she is behaving like this because she is upset with him. Trying to get close to her, blocking her way, holding her hand again and again, all these tactics were disgusting in my opinion. Does he not realize that she is his brother’s wife now? And if this was not enough, he gave her the speech of ‘I love you, I can’t live without you, leave Ahmed and come back to me’. After this speech, he deserved a slap from Haaniyah. All this is simply a game for Ahad! After being so badly insulted by Haaniyah who made it absolutely clear that there is no space for him in her life, he still sent her flowers! Haaniyah was so happy to see the flowers thinking that they were from Ahmed, but as soon as she read Ahad’s name in the card, she practically threw the flowers out of her balcony! Bravo! I simply loved Haaniyah in this scene.

I loved the way Haaniyah is opening up to Ahmed now. The way she casually asked about his past girlfriends shows how comfortable she is with Ahmed, and even Ahmed is enjoying this new side of her. The rain scene was one of the scenes I have been looking forward to since I saw it in the OST, and I really wish it was longer, and there was less of Ahad in the scene. Seeing Ahmed and Haaniyah together in the rain, he started remembering his time with Haaniyah, which frankly I had no interest in watching.

One of the best scenes of the episode was when Haaniyah asked Ahmed not to go for his business trip. She got so upset when he told her about his upcoming trip. The way she innocently said ‘mujhe sirf ap chahiye’ touched Ahmed and he promised to be back as soon as possible. A lovely scene in my opinion! Ahmed and Haaniyah’s chemistry keeps on getting better with each passing episode.

After Ahmed left, Ahad got more courage to do whatever he likes, and his constant attempts to get close to Haaniyah made her worried and upset. I do not understand why she is tolerating such behavior in the first place! She should have complained to Ahmed about Ahad’s behavior the first time he misbehaved with her. Now, she is going to be in deep trouble for keeping quiet about the whole matter. She wanted to tell Ahmed everything when he came back from his business trip, but chose to keep silent when she heard how happy he was to see the ‘changed’ Ahad. Her constant silence is a source of motivation for Ahad, and his behavior is going to get worse now!

I am really glad Samina’s mother gave her a good lecture for her senseless doubts. She shared her doubts about Afshah and Ahsan with her mother, and her mother brought her back to her senses. Ahsan has gotten even more disturbed after hearing such disgusting accusations from Samina, and instead of saying sorry, she accused him of discussing their personal lives with his mother. I am glad they showed less of her in this episode, her scenes are intolerable, and definitely worth skipping.

There was a lot of focus on Zehra’s track in this episode too. She is involved with her class fellow and not interested in marrying the guy her parents had chosen for her. Her parents; however, do not find her classmate suitable for her. There will be more focus on her track from now onwards and personally, I like her track more than Saminas’. Any track is better than Saminas’!

From the preview, it is pretty evident that Ahad’s attitude is not going to change anytime soon!

Do share your opinion about this latest installment!

Till Next Week!

Fahad Mustafa, Sanam Saeed and Iman Ali To Star Together In a Movie!

0

With the Pakistani cinema slowly gaining momentum, film makers are being encouraged to produce good quality, high budgeted movies. The latest news is that names like Fahad Mustafa, Iman Ali, and Sanam Saeed have been casted together for an upcoming movie.

The good news is that the famous television director, Anjum Shehzad has also stepped into the field of Lollywood to play his role in the revival of Pakistan Film Industry. Anjum Shahzad has a big budgeted movie in his hands now and leaving behind the tradition of casting traditional Lollywood hero and heroines; he has decided to take Model and Actress Iman Ali, Actor, Producer and Anchor Fahad Mustafa, and the rising star of Pakistani Television post Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Sanam Saeed as the three main leads in his upcoming movie.

iman ali

Iman Ali made her debut in Lollywood through the movie, ‘Khuda Ke Liyeah’ which was a huge success. Fahad Mustafa has done everything; from acting, to anchoring, to production. The only arena left to explore is Lollywood, and he has been looking forward to do a quality movie for quite some time now. He had signed a movie before and had also shot for it, but the shooting was stopped midway and the movie was scrapped which left him pretty disappointed at that time. But now he is getting another chance to venture into Lollywood. He has reached the heights of popularity as a Television actor; it will be interesting to see if he would be able to prove his mettle as a film actor too.

fahad mustafa

It will also be the first big scale movie for Sanam Saeed; previously she had appeared in a Tarang Telefilm called ‘Dil Mera Dhadkan Teri’ alongside Sarwat Gillani and Ahsan Khan. Though the telefilm was not very impressive, but Sanam’s performance was appreciated by all. She has a huge fan following and her fans will be the happiest seeing her on the big screen.

sanam saeed

Besides the cast, all other information about the movie is kept hidden, including its title. It seems to be a growing trend in Lollywood for filmmakers to try their level best to keep ‘maximum details’ a secret such as the title of the movie and songs to create curiosity amongst the audiences. They usually wait for the right moment to disclose the details.

The story of the movie is written by Sarmad Sehbai who has given some successful projects in the past. He is a popular poet, playwright and theater play’s director and has proved himself from time to time.

According to sources, the shooting of the movie already commenced in Karachi a few days ago, and the actors have shot for their respective scenes.

Hope we get to hear a confirmation from the actors soon!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Mujhe Khuda Pe Yakeen Hai – Episode 14.

0

I think this drama was better off when they were in the past because at least they had some material to be covered, be it in a hideous way but still they managed to show us something, but ever since we’ve come to know about Arham’s so-called gunnah, we’re left with nothing & have come to a point where they are using Narmeen’s breakfast as a weapon against her to prove how EVIL she is.

Accha, Shahiq has this ‘umang’ in his heart that Narmeen must pay some attention to him like Areeba pays to Arham. Sad that Arham still has those fits of distress even after he has found a good wife. Nothing in this drama is making sense at this point. It’s ohkay to be stagnant but when there’s nothing, literally nothing to be shown, then they come up with such meaningless episodes. Last episode ended at a note where Narmeen misbehaves about her FIL (father-in-law) in front of Shahiq & Samina & it was made to shown that Shahiq won’t take that & will slap Narmeen about what she said but how this episode started was enough to show the unsystematic approach of the director.

It was good that at least Sarah could speak in front of Narmeen but what was the NASHTA fiasco all about? Matlab Narmeen’s breakfast was just so important that it had to be mentioned or covered again & again in almost 3 scenes. At least before they kept on hovering around the Gunnah but right now they’re taking it to the household chores. Nashta, late uthna, namaz, bahu se kaam na karwana? Seriously!?!?!?! & yes whenever they sight the mood, they take us to already-seen-present-flashbacks, applaud for such an amazing insight of the director & the editor.

Accha, I just don’t understand the pattern of Arham’s pagal-pan. At one moment he is walking hands in hands with Areeba who is counseling him regularly, on the other he is having a breakfast with everyone peacefully, he is also seen asking Shahiq about his problems & went for Namaz with him to usay daura kahan se parh jata hai? No one loves me, no one understands me, no one has forgiven me? I think everyone has walked out of that phase in life but it is Arham who needs to snap out of it.

They never once showed how Arham connected the puzzle of Narmeen’s game? Narmeen never ever told anyone except her mother that she liked Shahiq for which she has left Arham? But from the last 2 – 3 episodes Arham on his own is speaking about Narmeen’s marriage to Shahiq because she found him more attractive than Arham? If it was someone wise, he must’ve established some grounds for Arham to be finding out the ultimate secret but right now he is just so sure without any knowledge of Narmeen’s game-plan. Plus all he knew was that Shahiq was forced into marrying Narmeen because of her izzat to be protected but this particular detail should’ve been used as a shocker & something to be exposed in front of everyone or else if Arham has connected the dots, why ain’t he speaking of it in front of his family?

Lost interest in the drama & praying that it ends ASAP!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Pakistani Directors We Should Be Proud Of

0

While the writers and actors in particular get more than enough attention and appreciation from the viewers, the directors most often do not get the credit they truly deserve. No matter how good the script of a play is if the director does not put his best into showing it on screen in a good way then the script may not have any impact on the viewers. On the other hand, a good director can even change an average script into something outstanding by extracting the best performances from the actors and by making the screenplay more enticing. It is totally up to the director how he visually puts the material in the script on screen.

Pakistani dramas could never have gotten as far as they have if it wasn’t for some very dedicated directors who are always giving us their best. here is a list of directors who have recently made a very good name for themselves in the drama industry.

Haissam Hussain

Anyone who watches Pakistani dramas would be well acquainted with this gifted director. He works very hard on all his projects and is one of those directors who can do miracles. Haissam Hussain was the director of Dastan, Akbari Asghari, Durr-e-Shehwar, Aik Nayee Cinderella and many others. He is also the one who will be directing the upcoming serial Bin Royee Ansoo.

Everything that she has done till now goes to prove that she is nothing short of an asset for our industry. Mehreen Jabbar directed the old long play starring Khalida Riyasat Ab Tum Ja Sakte Ho. She has also directed notable plays like Malal, Vasl, Daam, Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu, Coke Kahani, Rehaii and the film Ramchand Pakistani. Mehreen Jabbar adds the right kind of emotions to all of her plays. She pays attention to detail and aims for perfection.

nadeem s 3

Sarmad Khoosat

This list would be incomplete without adding the name of Sarmad Khoosat, the reason being that I have always felt that Sarmad is a true artist who believes in giving out quality work without worrying about commercialism. Although Sarmad had been directing for years before the he directed the play Pani Jaisa Pyar but that is the play that made people stand up and take notice. Sarmad introduced the concept of sitcoms with performances on songs through his sitcom Shahshlik. He gave his fans hits like Hamsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat and directed some other notable plays like Mera Yakeen and Daagh.

Sarmad Khoosat’s journey has just started, his talent and hard work is bound to take him a long way.

0

No, there is no lack of talent in Pakistan, and the proof is that our drama industry always welcome new facades warmly, and due to popularity of this medium, the decisive destination for every singer,Video Jockey(VJ),Radio Jockey (RJ),model, anchor and film artists seems to be acting.Year 2012-13 not only gave us the ‘Celebrity sisters’ reigning over this industry but also handful of VJs veering into the realm of acting , and ending up being most treasured lot so far. So here goes my list of the TOP VJs who turned into successful actresses :

7. Naveen  Waqar

Naveen_Waqar_picjpg_1_dccry

Naveen,28, aka VJ Fuse began her career with live request show “Pick and Choose with Fuse”. She also hosted the Radio One FM 91 show “Morning Music Chaska” as a RJ. Not  many of us know that she started her career from a telefilm “Ab set hai” , but she came on spotlight after the hit “Humsafar” in which she played the negative character of Sara which was much admired by the audience. She later did “Annie ki Aaye Gi Baraat” but unfortunately it was not quite a success as compared to its other sequels. She made her film debut in the film “Josh”  but majority still recognize her as “Humsafar’s Sara “.

6.Alishba Yusaf

Alishba,28,  started her career as a VJ on Aag TV. She made her tv debut from the show “Chaand Pe Dastak”,but she was noticed for the first time in “Mein Abdul Qadir Hoon”. And surprised everyone with her spectacular performance in “Ek nazar merin taraf”,playing  the role of a widow . Viewers were amazed by her improvement and started to look forward to more of her work. Her phenomenal performance in the recent show “Tanhaiyan- Naye Silsilay” and “Mere Dard ko Jo Zuban m=Mile” managed to wow the audience.Alishba seems careful and conscious in signing her projects thats why she is is not seen onscreen quite often.

5.Mawra Hussain

Pakistani-Model-Mawra-Hocane_0012

Mawra,21,started her career as VJ on Atv then started appearing in advertisements and then we saw her doing various television shows. She finally got her big break by playing a parallel lead, a negative character in the show “Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai” which was an instant success. and then she appeared in one popular show after the other.Probabaly, the best thing about her is that she can play both negative and positive characters with ease to perfection. She can easily mold herself into the innocent characters she played in “Ik tamanna lahasil si”, “Nikhar gaye gulab sare” and ” Main gunegar nahi”. Or the extremely negative ones like “Merai harjai”  “Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai” and ” Halki si khalish”. She has certainly proved her mettle in a really short time.

  4. Urwa Hussain

urwa10

Urwa,22, started her career as a VJ on ARY Musik. She debuted on the show “Meri ladli” which became a huge hit. After that there was no one to stop her.She proved herself as a potential acterss  in serials like “Madiha Maliha”  and “Kahi Un Kahi”. She has mostly negative roles but she is now gradually becoming more versitile. In her very recent comedy show “Namak Paray” and “Aik Pagal Si Larki”; it is very refreshing to see her doing comic roles.Currently, Urwa is working on her upcoming movie “Strawberry” opposite Sohail Haider.

3. Syra Yusaf

297984_206279102774809_138089626260424_454435_1311334675_n

Syra,25, is a popular face of TV commercials ,appearing in almost 50 commercials up to date. She was initially seen as VJ on MTV Pakistan, she got success with her debut “Bheja Fry” and “Most Wanted”;after that she stepped into acting and left everyone awed by her acting in “Mera Naseeb”.Her performances in “Bilquees Kaur” and ” Tanhaiyan- naye silsilay” were loved by all.It was very surprising to see her playing such deep and intense roles. Syra also has the biggest fan following on social media.

2.Sanam  Jung

Sanam Jung's Photoshoot - 4

A very talented and elegant edition to the Pakistani  Drama Industry is Sanam,26, who started her career as a VJ on Aag TV and decided to try her luck in TV dramas. Her first acting venture “Dil-e-Muztar” was an instant hit. She has made the best debut. Audience adored her with her very first character as Silla and now has sky high hopes from her. Lets wait and see her versatility and flexibility as an actress.

1.Mahira Khan

mahira-khan-photos-16

Winner of three Hum TV Awards,Mahira,30,began her career as a VJ back in 2008 when she was only 16,hosting the live show ‘Most Wanted’ three days a week on MTV Pakistan and later ‘Weekand with Mahira’ on Aag TV. Due to her funky and friendly nature, both of her shows were instant hits. Before stepping into television industry, she tried her luck as film artist. Although, her debut movie”BOL” was praised both by critics and audience but I remember watching that movie and saying, ‘ She needs to learn, how to act”.Then her debut drama Neyyat went on-air  and my only thought was “She really needs to go back and continue with that VJ stuff, acting is just not her thing”. Neyyat wasnt successful in capturing the attention of audience. However, her next show bowled everyone over; her drastic improvement was beyond expectations and we all know which show was that. She was even better in Shehr-e-Zaat portraying a total different character. In a very short span of time, she managed to establish her identity as a potential actor. So yes, she is at the top of my list.

I have shared my list of Top 7 Vjs which turned out to be successful Actresses.

What ranks do you give to all of them? Do share your views.

Stay Blessed,
Rabia Basharat.

Outstanding Pakistani Drama Writers

0

Pakistani drama industry has been blessed with some very good writers. Newcomers join the veteran writers every year which gives the viewers something new to watch. Here is a list of some of the writers whose dramas I look forward to and few things about their plays that make them stand out. I started watching Pakistani dramas only a few years back so this list will contain the names of new writers. No writer is perfect, there have been times when all of these writers gave us scripts that were not as impressive as most of the work they have done. So, my opinion is based on majority of their work. Please feel free to add to the list.

Umera Ahmed

Umera Ahmed needs absolutely no introduction, she is the writer behind memorable plays like Doraha, Daam, Mere Zaat Zar-e-Benishaan, Qaid-e-Tanhai, Maat, Shehr e Zaat, Durr-e-Shehwar and the list is never-ending. I am certain that there are many viewers who have watched and liked Umera Ahmed’s plays without even giving much thinking to who the writer of the play was. The plays that I mentioned in the list are those which can easily be termed as classics. Only an incredibly talented writer can give so many hits.

UA

What makes Umera Ahmed an exceptional writer is the fact that her dramas are very meaningful with a lot of depth. Her dialogues are quoted over and over again because they are so good. Her stories are original, something that is very rare nowadays when many of our writers are inspired by foreign dramas. And most importantly Umera Ahmed is one of the very few writers whose dramas are family dramas.

SHEHR E

Umera Ahmed may not be the queen of characterization but there is hardly ever a time when she loses her focus. The most important aspect of Umera Ahmed’s writings is that she takes up issues that are sensitive, those issues that have something to do with our social set up. This makes it easier for people to relate to her plays. Another aspect of Umera Ahmed’s plays that cannot be ignored is that almost all her plays had a very good ending. There are many plays by other writers which were hits but they did not have a good ending so people were very disappointed, a recent example would be Bilquees Kaur.

Samira Fazal

Samira Fazal is the woman behind the most memorable drama of recent times, Dastan, she is the writer who wrote the script of one of the most engaging dramas of all times Mera Naseeb. There are many other unforgettable scripts that were penned down by Samira Fazal like that of Khamoshiyan, Mere Pass Pass,  Mastana Mahi, Mera Saeein and recently her play Bari Apa kept people glued to their seats. Her play Shak nowadays is also doing very well too.

samira

What I like about this writer the best is that her characters are very well established most of the times. Even if a person does not enjoy the story of the play he is bound to retain his interest in the characters, Her characters are never black and white. some of them are just as complicated as real people, they have their good and bad sides. Other than that Samira Fazal’s scripts very often are more engaging and happening than the scripts of other writers. Her plays are also unpredictable with many unexpected twists and turns, secrets one could never have imagined which make the viewers at the edge of their seat.

dastan

Samira Fazal has the honor of showing some of the most sweet mother in law’s in the history of our dramas in her play. She obviously finds no pleasure in showing the evil saas or the saas bahu fights. Recently the play Kabhi Kabhi does show such a scenario but if you look at most of her work than you will see that the sass’s in her dramas are very reasonable characters. She focuses more on the ups and downs that couples face due to other personal reasons and not because of the interruption of outside forces.

Faiza Iftikhar

Faiza Iftikhar is another drama writer who is basically a novelist but has made a very good name for herself in the drama industry. She has written many famous dramas like Aik Nayee Cinderella, Thakan, Bilquees Kaur, Mohabat Rooth Jaye Tu, Tishnagi and more recently Aunn Zara and Khoya Khoya Chand. The best thing about Faiza Iftikhar is that her scripts are always different from each other. The viewers do not know what she will be coming up with next. Just like Samira Fazal, her characters are very lovable.

bq

Her scripts always carry great weight with an important message but she does so in a very entertaining way. Her heroines stand out because of their unique characteristics, take Bilquess Kaur for instance, she was one of a kind! The only problem with her dramas is that usually the endings are not satisfying enough. Other than that this talented writer is quite capable of writing scripts that leave an impact on the viewers.

aunn

Farhat Ishtiaq

Farhat Ishtiaq is the queen of romance. She wrote masterpieces like Hamsafar, Mata-e-Jaan and Rehaii. Pakistani drama fans are impatiently looking forward to her upcoming play Bin Royee Ansoo, which is based on a very famous novel written by Farhat Ishtiaq. When I watched Hamsafar and Mata-e-Jaan I thought that Farhat ishtiaq could only write romantic scripts but when I watched Rehaii my view about her changed. Rehaii had been written superbly. It dealt with a very sensitive issue but it was done very nicely. Some of the dialogues were so moving that they stayed with you for a while. The whole drama was very entertaining apart from being educational.

farhat

One common aspect of Farhat Ishtiaq’s writings is that her characters relationship with each other is based on very intense emotions. Her main characters are most often sweet and sensitive hence very endearing. Just like Umera Ahmed, Farhat Ishtiaq keeps her focus on the main story which is one of the reasons why her dramas are very engaging.

Share how you feel about these writers and feel free to add new names to the list. There are some other writers who have written a lot of plays lately like Amna Mufti and Maha Malik. Do you think they fall in the same league?

Jemina Khan’s Documentory on America’s Drone Wars

0

Drone attacks have been quite an issue in Pakistan for some time now. Recently, Jemina Khan (Imran Khan’s ex-wife) addressed this issue and released a documentary titled, “Unmanned: America’s Drone Wars” which premiered on 26th October in Islamabad ahead of its worldwide premiere on October 30. It later made its world premiere on October 30 at the Sunshine Landmark Theater in Manhattan, New York.

It is a highly moving documentary directed by US filmmaker Robert Greenwald and released in collaboration with Brave New Foundation. It highlights the plight of innocent drone victims and exposes the blatant lies of the US administration about the precision and efficacy of drone attacks.

This documentary highlights the brutal impact the drone attacks have on the lives of millions of people in the tribal areas of Pakistan. More than 70 people were interviewed for this documentary, the drone attack affected families, investigative journalists, top military officials and in the end, Imran Khan himself.

The director has taken detailed interviews in addition to footage that has never been seen before from the tribal areas in Pakistan to show what the people had gone through by US drone policy. This footage, alongside interviews with Pakistani drone survivors, describes the brutal reality of drone attacks ordered by the USA. Some of the stories include that of 16 year old Tariq Aziz, killed by a drone a mere week after he participated in a public conference in Islamabad in 2011; a school teacher, Rafiqur Rehman, who had to deal with the loss of his mother, along with the hospitalization of his children due to a drone strike last year. Unmanned shows how lives of people are no longer of significant importance since no one is ready to accept the responsibility for these attacks. Unmanned also uncovered how the military actions are often imprecise and US have little knowledge of how drone targets are set and the killings carried out.

Greenwald [the director] has stated, “This film was to show the world the human face on a policy that correlates groups of young men as terrorists and children and elderly as collateral damage. I wanted the world to see that this policy is misguided and should be reevaluated. The deaths of these civilians must not be in vain.”

The Chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and other top leaders of his party attended the first screening of the film along with journalists, diplomats, activists and members of civil society. Imran’s whose former wife Jemima Khan is a co-producer of the film, hoped that film will change public opinion in the West about the lethal drone strikes and their impact.

Jemima Khan also released a statement from London. She stated:

“Unmanned is a detailed look at the US and UK-backed drone attacks in Pakistan, with remarkable footage of the effects of these attacks on the ground. I believe these attacks are unethical in themselves, and — even more crucially — make every one of us less safe, because of the recruitment opportunities they afford the extremists each time an innocent civilian is killed.”

Imran Khan has showed immense support for Jemina’s work and even tweeted his admiration for the documentary.

tweet

This documentary is a must watch for every citizen to enlighten themselves about the drone attacks. The drone attacks and its casualties have been suppressed for quite some time now, and this documentary gives a clear-cut picture of the drone affected areas.

Theatrical Trailer of Movie ’Naach’ Released

0

Shaan Shahid, after giving a combination of three big movies back2back, has now turned into the most expensive and yet the busiest celebrity of Pakistan. While the Pakistani audience is finding itself been amused with the movie ‘Waar’, Shaan Shahid is now backing with his next great venture. We are not talking about Operation 021 here, infact, his next movie is Nasir Teherani’s Naach.

This upcoming movie Naach is a movie which is somehow related to the same theme we saw in Bollywood’s ‘Fashion’ where the real life behind the screen was the major point which got highlighted in the movie. As the title reveals, the movie is about the Dance and Music race which will be shown as a part of a competition in the film. Apart from Shaan, the movie includes some veteran actors like Javed Sheikh, Momal Sheikh and Sohai Ali Abro. Since we have been watching these artists on silver screens for quite a long and love them for their acting skills, it is really amusing to see them on big screen.

Adnan Sami Blamed Pakistani Government for not supporting the local Artists!

0

Bollywood Industry is currently providing the second largest entertainment media, first being the Hollywood, and artists who are in hope of making some real money and earn a better limelight find themselves been attracted towards Bollywood. Now that we see the Pakistani artists moving to India to work in Bollywood movies, it is important to remember that this is not a new trait the Pakistani audience is witnessing. In fact, from Zeba Bakhtiyar to Adnan Sami, we have seen all senior artists trying really hard to make their debut in the neighboring country.

It was interesting to find that famous composer/ songwriter and singer, Adnan Sami, despite of being treated as a third degree citizen in India, stated in one of this recent interview that Pakistan is not a country to live in. While been asked about his home country in the said interview, he was blunt in blaming the Pakistani government for the demise of two legendary singers. Mehdi Hassan and Reshma. These two legendary icons left the world while suffering from diseases. Adnan Sami, previously said that he would prefer to live on streets in India rather than going back to Pakistan.

adnan-sami-0a

However, in return of his  endless contributions to the music industry of India, he was released an order of leaving the country when his VISA got expired few months back, which then got an extension of 3 months.

Working abroad and making money for yourself is something which seems more like a personal affair but passing statement against the country which has actually given you a platform is an act of indecency.

Leaving you with a point to think,

Aseer Zadi Episode 13 – The Ultimate ‘Twist’

0

Surprisingly, I never get a chance to get bored while watching this show. Each scene contains a new twist that keeps me hooked. The prediction of Maira breaking the old tradition that has been running in the family for generations came true in this episode.

The episode progressed at a steady pace; we saw Maira and Shahab enjoying their last few hours together. After his outburst, Shahab tried to make it up to Maira by taking her to the café, and we saw a very playful interaction between them. All was good, till Bilal suddenly appeared out of nowhere and shocked Maira. She has still not forgotten what a huge mess his simple phone call had created, and now he was standing right in front of her and she did not know how to deal with this situation.

She was extremely uncomfortable and tried to keep the conversation to a minimum. She got even more scared when Shahab came and teased Bilal ‘Tum Meri Biwi Ka Peecha Ker Rahe Ho’. For a minute there, I thought Shahab will get furious, but fortunately, Shahab is a person who learns from his mistake and does not believe in repeating them. He casually teased him and dismissed the issue. Thank God!

Shahab’s good mood only lasted for a while, and then he was back to his brooding. He was dreading his impending marriage to Fatima, and my heart went out for Maira when he cruelly made her aware of what is going to happen next. He even smashed the tiny hope inside her that they might still be able to meet secretly.

Peer Jalal’s character may have a lot of flaws, but I simply love his personality. He has this certain aura, charisma that I am in complete awe of. The way he calmly responded to the demand made by Sikander through Badi Sarkar was pretty impressive. If this man has learned something in his life, then it is self-control. He dealt with Sikander in a very clear-cut manner. His warning was given in a very normal tone, but everybody could feel the underlying threat in the warning. Peer Jalal has been ignoring Sikander and his demands for quite some time now, but finally decided to speak up to bring him to his senses. This scene made me want to clap for both the actors for their outstanding performances.

Sikander’s attitude with Badi Sarkar might be stern and authoritative, but when it comes to Peer Jalal his whole attitude changes. The lion suddenly becomes a mere cat in the presence of Peer Jalal. The scene where he is taunting Badi Sarkar for Shahab’s absence and the sudden change in him when Peer Jalal comes made me laugh out loud! Sikander is a two faced man who is using his own sister for his personal gain. Badi Sarkar might not be able to understand that she is being used, but Peer Jalal is wise enough to understand Sikander’s every motive.

The main twist was in the latter part of the episode. Just when it felt like the fate has been sealed, a ray of hope emerged. When Shahab rushed Maira to the hospital, he was not expecting his whole life to take a 360 turn. He was on top of the world when the doctor announced that Maira was expecting; it was like the rest of the world did not exist for him. But he was brought back to reality by Badi Sarkar’s phone call.

I was expecting a better reaction from Maira when Shahab announced the news to her. Ainie Jafferi was completely expressionless in this scene. I was expecting her to be either shocked, surprised or show disbelief, but all we got was an expressionless face. Her expression or the lack of it ruined the scene for me!

I would like to make a special mention of Amna Bibi for this episode. She was bang on in all her scenes! Her senseless rants are truly very entertaining. The way she answered back to Fatima and Badi Sarkar was definitely worth an applause!

So, now the question is what will happen next? Will Shahab marry Fatima now? And why is he so adamant on hiding this news? I am really curious to know what will happen next!

Do share your opinion about the episode!

Till Next Week

Waar all set to release Internationally!

0

Waar, the movie which brought revolution in Pakistani cinema, as it has been produced in line with the International Standards has grossed around 190 million in Pakistan since its release in October. Now the latest news is that it has been approved by British Board of Film Censors’ and has been given an approval for its release in the UK.

The director of the movie, Bilal Lashari has stated, “Waar has been approved for release with no cuts. However, it will take 10 to 15 days to release because we are negotiating with distributors.” It might take around two more weeks for the movie to officially release in the UK as the producers are still finalizing the deal with the distributors in the UK. The number of cities, screens and locations are yet to be finalized.

There has also been a lot of speculation about its release in India. Regarding this, Bilal Lashari has stated, “I have not approached anyone specifically for distribution in India”. The movie has been criticized for creating a lot of propaganda and according to most people ‘it has portrayed India as the root cause for all its problems.’ Bilal Lashari has clarified from time to time that there was no such intention while making this movie.

Well, for those who say this, have they not seen India doing the same from time to time? Showing Pakistanis/Muslims as terrorists has been a trend in Indian movies for a long time now. In the case of Waar, it is just a matter of how you perceive the movie. Even if the villains in the movie are Hindus, Indians are not directly mentioned nor are they the direct target in this movie. At the end of the day, it is a ‘movie’ solely for the purpose of entertainment.

Lashari, in reference to Waar’s release in India states, “I have no idea how the people will react, but it would be great if it ends up being screened [in India]. A lot of people are saying it is never going to happen”

Waar’s release in India is the least of the concerns right now. There are far better arenas to conquer at the moment. The producers are in talks with distributors in other countries too. UK is just the beginning; it will be released in more countries now!

Waar was released in 42 screens in Pakistan and made a staggering RS. 11.4 million on its opening day at the box office. We pray and hope that it gains more numbers internationally than it has earned locally!

We wish all the best to its producer, director and actors. They have gained immense popularity locally; if this movie is a success internationally then they will be gain popularity on an international level. Hope the three years put into this movie and all the hard work pays off!

Whoever resides in the UK, do go and watch this movie and support Pakistani cinema!

Ranjish Hi Sahi Episode 3 – Going Strong

0

Itna buland na jao ke upur se tumhei zindagi ki khushkiyan, us ki musartein haqeer nazar ayen…pachtao gi aik din

This latest installment of Ranjish Hi Sahi fit the bill in every possible way; it was engaging, fast paced, excellently directed and acted out and the dialogues have been written beautifully. Generally people complaint that most dramas with depth lack the entertainment factor needed to make a play more engrossing. For people who think so, Ranjish Hi Sahi is a must watch. It is not depressing or dark either, so that is another plus.

rhs1

Kamal Hassan like a desperate man would not let Yumna slip away from his life once again. He is like a man who has found something very precious which he had lost years back , his desperation was completely relatable. Yumna’s situation is such that she cannot even think about doing anything that will change the way things are with her and her daughters. She has given her daughters enough love to fill all voids in their lives and has been a strong pillar of support for them. That is the reason why Tooba and Hiba do not feel the need for a father figure in their lives. Kamal confided in Tooba and as a result Tooba even with all her insecurities was willing to support her mother’s decision. It is plain to see that Hiba will not be understanding at all because she cannot share her mother’s love and affection with anyone else except her sister. Maya Ali maybe playing a role similar to the one she has played in many other dramas but I like her in it nevertheless, perhaps because I haven’t followed any of her dramas very religiously. Hiba has met her match and for once the side track romance actually seems appealing. Mohammad Ali (Arsal) has been doing well till now, there are times when his body language is too stiff and his dialogue delivery too flat but he is definitely much better than many other newcomers.

rhs6

I found the grey shade in Yumna’s hair much more real than what we usually get to see on screen; a thick layer of grey on a few strands as opposed to a the grey shade spread over the entire hair. The scene in the garden was beautifully shot; the vibrant colors along with the combination of green and white were very striking. The only thing that did not quite fit in were Faisal Rehman’s mismatched clothes.

rhs1

The relationship between Yumna and her daughters has been portrayed very well; the credit for that goes to the writer, director and the actors. I really like the quality of Urdu that we are getting to hear in the play. Faisal Rehman and Samiya Mumtaz’s excellent dialogue delivery just adds to the beauty of the well written dialogues. Sana Javed was a very good choice for playing the role of Tooba, she is very delicate and pleasant looking even though her acting can be a little unconvincing at time but that can be easily overlooked.

rhs5

Till now this drama does not appear to be anything like the usual A & B productions play. There is no excessive rona dhona or over exaggeration of the becharapan of the main protagonist. No doubt, I feel for Yumna because she must be very tired and in need of a break and some kind of an emotional support, love. But she is not your usual heroine who is lost without her man and cannot look out for herself. The way Hiba holds Yumna accountable went to show that even after raising two children all on her own Yumna does not have the right to take her own decisions. Something which is very true, every mother puts her children’s happiness before her own needs. Even though Yumna keeps on telling Hiba that she expects too much from her but Hiba still feels (like any pampered child) that the only way of showing her affection to her mother is to keep things the way they always have been. The show very aptly shows how difficult it is for a woman to find some happiness for her own self when she has grown up children.

The picture quality of the play has been superb throughout. Overall, the play is a good mix of emotions which are not overly intense but touching nevertheless. I am definitely looking forward to more.

“I am a religious woman, I will go for Umrah soon” : Veena Malik

Our very own controversy Queen,Veena Malik, while giving interview to showbiz desk, London, said that people of different mindsets live in Pakistan and everyone has right to live life in one’s own way. She said that she is a daughter of an army officer and she is proud to be a Pakistani. She further said that she is a religious woman; her religion is none of others concern, it’s between her and Allah and she will go for Umrah soon.

According to Veena Malik, Pakistan is deprived of National heroes and we should worth having them in our country. She pledged that she also want her to be treated as National Hero rather than attacking her through taunts and insulting comments again and again. Veena Malik warned Sheikh Rashid to stop himself in giving those insulting comments on her.If he wont, then she knows how to tackle with such situations.

We pray that Veena’s inner woman will soon give her a wake-up call and she will start taking her life seriously.

Do give your comments about Veena’s interview.

Stay Blessed,
