It is a commercial entertainment film in the backdrop of situation of Karachi of Comedy/Thriller genre. Its cast includes Fahad Mustafa, Jawed Sheikh, Mohsin Abbass, Urwa Hocaine, Salman Shahid, Umber Khan, and British actress Kubra Khan while Mehwish Hayyat has a guest appearance in an item song. The film is produced by Fizza Ali Meerza and directed by Nabeel Qureshi. Khalilur Rehman Qamar interview

0

Drama writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar has been a household name after the overwhelming success of drama Pyare Afzal. KRQ is writing dramas and films since 1996 (as far i remember). Being based in Lahore all of his dramas were also produced in this city until 2012-13 when his drama Manjali produced in Karachi was aired on Geo TV. Manjali received mixed reviews but his writing style impressed the drama producers of Karachi. Later more dramas produced in Karachi are aired i.e. Pyare Afzal (ARY Digital) and Bunty I Love You (HUM TV). Pyare Afzal was widely viewed and provided nation wide recognition to KRQ again. Yes again, because KRQ was very famous in 1998-99 when his drama Boota From Toba Tek Singh was very successful.

KRQ is recently interviewed by Voice of America (VOA) Urdu, and its complete content is also posted here. The content is in Traditional Urdu script. The full interview can also be listened below.

The whole content and interview is taken from link http://www.urduvoa.com/content/article/2430275.html

Meray Humdum Meray Dost – 2nd Last Episode

0

For the first time in this entire show, I felt bad for Sajeela ; Not because of the fact that she was rejected by Haider Masood but because of her ex-husband for whom Sajeela was merely a jackpot and he used her just as an ATM machine for earning muft ka revenue,as much possible as he can. She came back to Pakistan with a hope that Haider spent those years by thinking about her only but she was proved wrong. Haider kept on avoiding Sajeela for so long but this time what Sajeela did was something beyond his level of patience – She insulted rather accused Aiman and that was unbearable for him.

1

Just after Haider broke the ice, her credulity vanished with in a moment and that was nothing but a slap on Sajeela’s face. Bibi was right, after spending those carefree years with her ex-husband , as soon as she got to know his reality , she reverted back to Haider. Neither was Haider an absolute scum nor was he so desperate that he will accept and welcome Sajeela whenever she feel like coming back to him.I mean how could she even think of returning back to him after leaving him the way no one expected her to leave ?

I am so glad that Taufeeq paid heed to what Aiman asked and got convinced after knowing what was in her mind. Afterall, he learnt this lesson from his own life – marrying Zainab and then living his life without his daughter was the hardest fact he ever faced and now that his daughter is standing at the similar spot, he didnot want her to face the same situation that he did. And to add icing on the cake was Saahir’s vote in favor of his father.. chup karwa dya donu ne Almaas ko..

Keeping everything in his mind that happened lately, Haider decided to get married. He didnot want any questions on his and Aiman’s relation and as soon as he felt that situation is getting out of his hands, he went to Dubai to propose Fatima. Bibi was shocked to hear the news because all this while , she was thinking that Haider will marry Aiman and now that he announced his wedding, she was unable to figure out that what exactly is cooking in Haider’s head.

2

Poor Aiman felt as if she was in the middle of nowhere ; For her, Haider was the reason because of whom she smiles and now that he himself is ready to snatch the smile away from her, how would she be able to remain quiet and to not confess her love for him. She pledged Haider and asked him again and again to marry her but Haider resisted to confess his feelings for her – he was doing this for his own self because he knew that he was way elder than her, he was doing that for her because he didnt want anyone to see Aiman with suspicious eyes and more than that, he was doing this for them kyu k Haider sab kuch bardaasht kar sakta hai magar ye bardasht nahi kar sakta k usay koi ye kahay k uss ne Aiman ke masoomyat, uss ke kam umeri ka faida uthanay ke koshish ke hai.. but he knew that none of them will live a happy life with his very step.

Next episode will be the last one and I am so going to miss this show. But I am glad too and that is because they are winding it up at right time so that the charm of the show remains with us for long. Preview of next episode looks interesting and after a long time, we will finally see one happy ending..

I would love to read your feedback on second last episode of this show.

Madiha Khalid & MasterChef Pakistan!

0

Cover

Madiha Khalid; a contestant from Islamabad who grabbed the attention of the viewers ever since her first appearance on the show. She was the most energetic, talkative, enthusiastic contestant that the judges came across in the Islamabad auditions. The moment her journey began, she came forth as someone who wasn’t scared of experimenting with the dishes she created for the judges to taste, raising the bar high & the expectations higher. Madiha has also been one of those contestants who got a privilege to judge one of the rounds alongside the judges. Even though she emerged as a very strong contender, somewhere down the line she fell in a deep pit probably because of her surroundings, but she recollected herself, held her head high & proved herself once again by earning herself a spot in the finale where she filled the position of 2nd runner up of the very first season of MasterChef Pakistan. Be it her crab dessert or those cutest accessories that she adorned her scarf with; Madiha Khalid played her bit with dignity & grace by never involving herself in the controversies whereas it was pretty evident that people around her definitely had some issues. Well, that’s all done & dusted but the experience that Madiha has to share is still very special.

She was kind enough to share her thoughts with us, so let’s see what she has to say.

Q) What inspired you to come to MasterChef?
A) Close family members and friends knew about my cooking passion and skills. One of my friends “Sahar” (bless her) is a big fan of MasterChef Australia, when she found out about MasterChef Pakistan she insisted and encouraged me to take part in it. That is how I ended up in MasterChef Pakistan.

Q) What do you think about the format of the show?
A) Format of the show is very interesting because you don’t know what’s coming your way. Every single day in the show is a different day as you don’t know if you are going to get surprise, advantage, black apron or elimination.

Q) How would you define the three judges? Please tell us about them individually.
A) A tough question as all of them are senior and respectable judges.
Chef Zakir:
He is strict as he always looks forward to a perfect method, perfect dish and perfect smell of the food.
Chef Khurram:
He is a bit less strict than Chef Zakir however when it comes to food he checks everything such as presentation of the food, right combination of colors and the taste of the dish.
Chef Mehboob:
He is easy going and my husband’s favorite judge however when it comes to food he is strict too. Sir Mehboob always looks forward to some new, unique, different and experimental dishes that taste good.

Q) Do you think judges have stayed true to the seat & have not been biased?
A) No, I don’t think they were biased or unfair; I actually had a privilege to sit with them to judge. They had a criterion, they discussed good and bad points of each dish, then they shared their opinions before they came to a conclusion and that was just to make sure that the result was fair.

Q) Many times, it was felt that the judges favored some contestants & didn’t eliminate those who seemingly deserved to go, is it true?
A) I disagree; it’s not true however everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. I think they were fair and the positions that they stand in didn’t happen overnight, so we should respect their decisions in regards to the eliminations.

Q) Do you think the current panel of judges is good enough? If you feel the judges should be changed, who would you prefer?
A) Yes, the current panel is good, all these judges are professionals and highly skilled. It’s up to MasterChef team which judge they bring in or take out but as far as I am concerned I would not change any judge.

1

Q) How did the judges treat the contestants? Do you think they should’ve been friendlier?
A) Judges treated contestants very fairly, however they all have different personalities, different ways of approaching, and teaching but at the end of the day whatever they said to us was for our own benefit but yes a friendly way of teaching is a bit better.

Q) During the show, it felt like you had a tough time with the co-contestants; please tell us something about it?
A) When I was dominating the show a lot of contestant could not digest that and then there was a lot of politics, disturbing comments that happened against me but I believe actions speaks louder than words and by the end of the day I made it to finale which they didn’t, but honestly speaking I have got nothing against them as it nature of the show that people always compete to make their mark and I wish all of them good luck.

Q) Who were you friends with?
A) I got along really well with Gulnaz, Ammara and Sidrah.

Q) After watching the episodes, do you think the format & execution of the show & episodes needs to be improved?
A) There is always room for improvement. I think team MasterChef should consider diversity and better editing but at the same time we should not forget that it was first season of MasterChef Pakistan so overall it was great.

Q) What are your comments on the politics among the contestants that got covered in the show?
A) I believe there should be no politics in the show.

Q) In the personal VT’s were the contestants encouraged to speak about your co-contestants or it was completely your choice?
A) Speaking about myself, it was my own choice completely. Some of the contestants might have gotten influenced by their friends but I really have no idea.

– Please define your co-contestants in one word:
I don’t know them very well but regardless of my experience with co contestant, I will try to think of one positive attribute of each.
– Sidrah: Sweet Voice
– Mudassir: Quite
– Iqra: Nice
– Gulnaz: Innocent
– Amna: Confident
– Khurram: Sweet
– Azam: Cool and Calm
– Saad: Boss
– Zain: Kindhearted
– Rayyan: Naughty
– Ali Shah: Amazing
– Anila: Funny
– Adnan: Philosopher
– Mariam: Caring
– Ammarah: Loving

Q) What advice would you give to those who’re interested to appear in the next season?
A) It’s going to be tougher season so prepare yourself well, polish and practice your skills and increase your food knowledge as much as you can.

Q) In the end, please share your experience & feelings about being a MasterChef contestant & what did it teach you?
A) It was a great experience; it’s just like a dream come true. I lived there far from family just because of my passion. Pantry was my most favourite place. It was like a roller coaster ride, I had my ups and downs but at the end of it, I was over the moon and very thankful to God for giving me so much of respect. It definitely taught me a lot of things, one of them being that the interviews can be so hard, hahah. Well jokes apart I have learned a lot of tips, tricks and ins and outs. I have finished my economics and management degree from University of London however I believe I belong to food Industry so I am going to carry on and try to make it as far as possible in the food industry. Last but not the least, one of the most important lessons that I got from this experience was that dreams do come true as long as you are serious and passionate to achieve your goals and dreams.

So, this was it from Madiha Khalid. Share what you felt about her honest answers & a message to her from you. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

The MasterChef “Friends”!

The first MasterChef Pakistan contestants were all talented and creative. They all had their focus on presenting the best food to the judges and along the way, they became friends with each other.  This friendship continued after MasterChef Pakistan season 1 ended.

Mausam – Episode 16

0

Mausam has been a very slow play till now but all of a sudden things are moving forward rather quickly. Hashir’s father finally decided to call him today, he listened to him and confronted his mother but there was nothing new about what Hashir said to his mother because he has always believed that his mother was responsible for the separation between his parents. When Hashir finds out the next morning that his mother has gone to the doctor he decides to go after her but when he finds out that his mother has already left and spots Saman’s mother there, he conveniently forgets all about his mother but is more concerned about setting things straight in Saman’s life. I am glad that we were not shown the details of what went on between Faisal and Saman after he saw her in Hashir’s office. Even after going through so much Saman’s sole concern is saving her marriage.

Shazia on the other hand thinks she has hit a jackpot, she is finally going to get the man she always wanted….so basically mission accomplished! I am waiting to find out how she is going to convince Faisal to accept this marriage since she is the one who has been telling Faisal that Hashir is interested in Saman. I am anxiously waiting to see how Faisal reacts to the news of Shazia and Hashir’s marriage because I can foresee Karma taking care of Shazia’s future from now on (or it could be my wishful thinking!) Surely someone like Shazia cannot get away with everything that she did; she will eventually have to pay for all that she put Saman and Hashir through.

mausam3

Saman surprised me yet again with the change in her personality when she is around Hashir. It is strange and ironic that all of Saman’s lectures and words of wisdom are for Hashir’s ears only. Also, her common sense works only when it comes to Hashir. She took seconds to put two and two together when it came to figuring out Luqman’s connection with Hashir. She must be one of those people who will do anything for family, even if that family is a back-stabbing cousin or Khala or an abusive husband, but she will never trust someone who is not part of the family. Hashir is definitely not a stranger to Saman but the way she told him off was actually very surprising; I had no idea that she knew that Mehreen was interested in Hashir too since even Hashir found out that Mehreen had feelings for him only recently. And when did Saman find out that Hashir likes her? Saman is definitely not the sort of person who can just figure something like that out.

Shazia’s conversation with her mother highlighted her mother’s double standards even more. It looked like she knew exactly what her daughter had been upto all these years. She did not want Saman to be there when Hashir’s mother came and she was very sure that Faisal could create problems – now what does that say about her? Looks like Saman’s mother is going to keep the big secret all to herself, she is the only one who knows exactly what Shazia has been doing to her daughter for all these years but for some odd reason she feels absolutely no need to confront her even – not that it is going to do any good.

The preview of the next episode showed that Faisal threatens to divorce Saman, yet again and Hashir plays “the savior” with flying colors! I am glad that the story is finally moving forward and at this point I am looking forward to Shazia paying for whatever she did to Saman more than anything else.

Another Song Of Khoobsurat Is Out

The new song of Fawad Khan’s upcoming Indian movie Khoobsurat is out. The song is titled “Maa Ka Phone”, it is a funky number with a very colorful video. Unlike the previous song of the film that focused more on Sonam, this one has Fawad and Sonam both.

Here is the video of the song:

“Nabi Ji Salam” Is Touching And Thought Provoking – Watch Video

0

The song “Nabi Ji Salam” has been written by non other than Anwar Maqsood and has been sung by Fuzon. The video of the song and its lyrics are touching. The video will make people think about the divide between the rich and poor in Pakistan. The song asserts on the importance of education for children. It shows children of poor families whose basic needs are not met because of  lack of finances. These children work in people’s houses or labour in the workshops but they dream of something very different from the kind of lives they are living.

Pehchan – Last Episode

0

“Aap ko happy ending pasand hai na? Mujhe bhi!” Because happy endings don’t always mean that a couple with the most dysfunctional marriage resolves all their differences magically in the last episode. Sometimes happy endings can be convincing too. Laila preferred Saadi’s friendship even though Mansoor did his best to convince her that she was lost without him. Tonight I felt like Mansoor really was desperate to get Laila back not only because he wanted to control her but he wanted her back in his life. People like Mansoor do not change of course and I am glad that Laila knew that only too well, which is why she refused to take him back. Mansoor realized that he had lost someone very precious and there was no way to win Laila back now, regret and remorse was all he was left with. It was good to see Mansoor’s real self coming out when Laila told him that the marriage was over because otherwise the change in his personality would have been unpersuasive.

Laila’s mother’s ego did not allow her to accept her daughter for what she was now wholeheartedly but the way things were moving forward there was definitely hope for the future. Mrs. Khan consoled herself with lies like always; yes some things never change and I am glad that Mrs. Khan’s track was wrapped up like this because people’s lives and personalities don’t change overnight. Kukoo and Khurram ended up being good friends; Kukoo’s letter to Khurram at the end was elaborate and pretty much summed up everyone’s life.

I am glad that Pehchan ended tonight because even a die-hard fan like me was feeling that the conversations were getting repetitive. The ending was gratifying in every way, I could not have asked for more. I think Pehchan was the best play of the season because it excelled in all the departments in which a drama can stand out. Bee Gul and Khalid Ahmed gave a brand new treatment to an age-old story and added the zing which a good drama needs. It may have been too slow and unconventional for many viewers therefore it did not the kind of attention that commercial plays get but I hope that will not stop the producers, writer and the director from continuing experimenting.

p1

I feel like I owe Bee Gul in particular a big thanks for not banking on the more easy (which don’t require a lot of thinking) and conventional ways to get attention from the viewers. Her dramas have not been getting the appreciation which they truly deserve but she continues writing artistic scripts and does not rely on run-of-the-mill-stories. All of her characters are multi-layered and definitely not black and white, with the exception of Laila’s mother. Her characters are so real that you can’t help but connect with them, feel for them and understand them even when it is a character as negative as that of Mansoor. I also love the way these characters are revealed to the viewers gradually; the way Laila and Kukoo’s journey of self-discovery was penned down and executed was perfect. I would really like to see a male character as the main protagonist in one of Bee Gul’s upcoming plays because until now she has been focusing on women leads.

Khalid Ahmed brings out the best in Bee Gul’s scripts because he understands the depth of the characters and the narrative. Not just that he made Pehchan a masterpiece by making it esthetically pleasing. Khalid Ahmed’s direction proved that he believes that his viewers are just as intelligent as he is unlike most Pakistani directors who think that the viewers will not understand the underlying messages in the story unless they spoon-feed it to them. There were quite a few scenes in every episode that conveyed the feelings and situations of the characters beautifully even when there were no dialogues involved. I personally feel that Pehchan was a labour of love; Bee Gul assisted Khalid Ahmed herself which must have made a huge difference too and which goes to show how seriously she took this drama. The Director Of Photography Naveed Malik deserves special appreciation for a job well done. A big shout-out to the producers Seema and Razi-ud-din Ahmed for giving the Pakistani viewers a reason to believe that there are still people out there who care about more than just the TRPs. We definitely need more people like them in the drama industry.

p2

I really want to thank the person/s responsible for choosing the cast. It was an absolute pleasure watching Alishba Yusef play the character of Laila. Laila’s feelings and personality underwent a major transformation within two years of her marriage and Alishba Yusef portrayed different shades of Laila’s personality impeccably. Sohail Sameer outdid himself as Mansoor. He played the bad guy without going overboard, it is amazing how a good script and direction can bring out the best in an actor. I don’t have enough words to praise Iffat Omer; everything about her was perfect from the acting to her make-up and hairdos. Parveen Malik played Laila’s mother’s role very well and her character which was very different from the roles she has played till now. We may not have liked her character for obvious reasons but she was definitely in her comfort zone. Qazi Wajid and his character both were adorable; the chemistry that Qazi Wajid and Alishba Yusef shared on screen brought the father-daughter relationship to life. Anita Camphor did complete justice to her character, she is a very gifted actress.  Sumbul Shahid played the role of the proud mother of a son perfectly. Fawad Khan unfortunately brought out the worst in Khurram’s character, he has a long way to go! Faris Khalid and Saad gradually grew on me in the last few episodes but in the beginning he was sticking out like a sore thumb. I think the reason for that could be that Faris Khalid wasn’t very comfortable with Urdu language. The OST of the play was beautiful, Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry coupled with Arshad Mahmud’s composition and Erum Nafees’ beautiful voice gave the viewers a song which they can listen to over and over again.

Watching Pehchan and reviewing it every week has been a delightful and insightful experience. A big shout-out to all those readers who read the reviews regularly and shared their thoughts here.

Chup Raho – Episode 03

0

Today’s episode was a bit on dull side; Though, few developments were made in the story but this time it had too many loopholes that they sounded kind of lame to me. Still, it was pretty much watchable. No wonder why Rameen’s mother is not ready to buy what she has been telling her for so many days about Numair. And to add icing on the cake is Numair’s acting, I mean seriously, this man knows all tactics to keep everyone blindfolded; The way he clarified himself in front of his MIL was way commendable and for once, Rameen was relieved to know that she won’t be living with this torture aka Numair for some days. Finally Naila made her entry today too and we got to see some happy Rameen scenes too. But her contentment was not long run; She did not know that a gigantic dark cloud was waiting for her to destroy her life, forever.

1

Evil plans emerge out from evil minds and our Numair had that diabolical cum satanic mind that assists him to play the cards right on perfect time. Inshort, Numair got succeeded in his heinous crime today; My heart cried when I saw Rameen crying infront of her mother. It is true that people like Numair do exist in our society and we can’t deny the fact that mothers like Rameen’s also pledge their daughters to keep their mouths shut, if and only if they are courageous enough to utter what exactly happened to them – sometimes in the name of so called ‘respect’ and sometimes for the sake of not ruining someone else’s life.

2

After this very scene, story sounded a bit lame to me. I mean why is Rameen thinking that her own fiancé will be of evil nature solely because his cousin is. Lets accept the fact for a moment that she is right, but the thing is that after getting married ,she won’t be living in the same house with Numair then why is she refusing to marry Aazar now ?

3

Above all, to reject someone after engagement, one needs a solid reason and the reason that Rameen’s mother gave at first was bus beta kuch matt pocho . Was that excuse enough to break a relation within a fraction of seconds ? And soon after that , Rameen came up with a solid point that was at-least justifiable – Somebody please ask Yasir Nawaz , what was the reason behind adding that lame call scene ?

Bhaie jo bhi kaho, Jibraan is playing it very safe but at the end of the day, he will have to face dreadful consequences of what he had done throughout his life and at that time, there won’t be any one for him to help him undo his brutal acts. By far, Story is going fine but they have to take serious measures to eradicate those unnecessary scenes. Baaki dekhtay hain kya hota hai..

I would love to read your feedback about tonight’s episode.

“Logic And Rationale Make A Person Khoobsurat” – Fawad Khan

0

Fawad Khan is very busy in India nowadays promoting his upcoming film Khoobsurat. He is giving hundreds of interviews per day and is participating in different shows. While talking to an entertainment website Fawad Khan revealed many of his plans for the future. When asked whether he is interested in working in Indian dramas or not, he replied,

“I will never have qualms about working on the small screen because it will always be the origins of my birth. There may be really intelligent content here, but I think it lacks a little perspective in presentation. I would love to participate in something that takes it to the next level… like a mentality of a film in the mechanism of television.”

Fawad Khan also said that in Pakistan he usually tried to stay away from shows and did not give many interviews because he is a very shy person.

fawad khan

“Right now a lot of people must be going “yahan toh nahi karta thha Fawad, wahan jaake kar raha hai dekho!” (laughs). To be honest, I am not a very talkative person so for me it’s almost been a conscious decision to stay away (from the promotions) back home. But here, this is the norm… this aggressive promotion. It can’t be avoided. It’s been crazy!”, said Fawad Khan about all the interviews he has been giving in India lately and how many people in Pakistan might be feeling about his new talkative side.

fk

Fawad Khan also said that he wasn’t expecting so much appreciation from Indians, “I didn’t expect  this scale of appreciation in India! It’s great how people have responded.”

We wish Fawad Khan all the best for his upcoming film.

Shanakht – Episode 05!

0

Ohkay so, it was another one of those interesting episodes. No matter what they show, I always feel I want to watch the whole serial in one go. It’s totally amazing & what adds more to it are the characters. For a change, I really feel that the uncommon cast has done wonders & I truly appreciate the casting director for going for all these actors because I am sure if it would’ve been let’s say a few of those actors that frequent our TV screens regularly, it wouldn’t have made such an impact & for this I am glad that Maya Ali, Fahad Mirza & Noor Hassan opted for this script & are doing their job really really well.

Finally, Hashim broke the ice & shared all those preconceived notions he had about Rohaan & people like him but the best part was that Rohaan took it very lightly because for him, what he heard from Hashim was nothing new. He knew that people end up judging those who choose to look religious therefore, he laughed at it & made him understand that not everyone’s the same & there’s no probation on enjoying the life within certain limits (by the way I loved the PG13 statement of his).

Hashim & Rohaan’s friendship took off really well because both of them took steps towards each other. Rohaan made sure he helped Hashim in understanding him better & Hashim felt he was misunderstanding Rohaan all this while. I truly enjoyed their conversations & the best one & the most realistic one for me was when Rohaan told Hashim about why he chose to endorse the Sunnah of Nabi Mohammad (SAW). No matter what it is, but it is the truth that people often tend to mistake Muslims as Non-Muslims because they don’t look like it. I liked the fact that very subtly they touched the point that as much as it’s important to be a good Muslim, it’s equally important to look like a Muslim too so that people can instantly figure out what your true ‘identity’ is.

Both the families of Rohaan & Annie are worried about their proposal that’s why where Huma is trying her best to get Annie married to a guy of her standards, Rohaan’s mother ended up choosing a girl according to her criteria too. Huma may come across as someone who’s (not so) cool & (not so) yo, but she certainly is very conservative when it comes to her daughter’s proposals. She thinks that those who’re religious are very rigid but she forgot that she being not so religious is quite rigid too. I didn’t really understand why Amjad gave in & allowed Huma to do whatever she deems fit in Annie’s case. All this while he was pretty much supportive & appreciative of Annie’s choices but now seems like he’s also worried about her proposal & he is tired of seeing people rejecting Annie left, right & centre because of her Hijab, so is that why he decided to side with Huma as well?

Seems like Kashaf & Annie’s relation has hit the rock bottom because the rejection of Annie is somehow affecting Kashaf too. Even though Kashaf is considerate to make Haris wait for her proposal because she wants Annie to get married first but she can’t seem to cope well with how Huma starts considering every single proposal that comes for Kashaf after they end up rejecting Annie. For Kashaf, the best thing for Annie to do is to get rid of her Hijab so that people show more acceptance towards her. Even though Annie takes all of Kashaf’s rants really well on the surface, but deep within she feels hurt & depressed especially seeing how her family considers her wrong & end up being unsupportive.

Annie did the best thing to bring the families of Amjad & Ahmad close again. She made sure to make Huma understand what she was doing wrong & for a change it was good to hear Huma appreciate Annie’s thoughts because she made her realize that breaking the ties with the relatives wasn’t the right thing to do. Huma knows how positive Annie’s attitude is, but she still can’t seem to come to terms with her Hijab, which I hope, happens soon & Huma accepts Annie for who she is & what her choices are.

It seemed like Hashim was kind of missing Annie that’s why he spoke about her to Rohaan because I think now when he has gotten a chance to be in the vicinity of such a person who is also religious & modest, Hashim will now kind of understand Annie & her mentality a lot better. I liked the fact a lot that even though Rohaan has made Hashim comfortable, he still doesn’t forget to share his inner most feelings regarding the religion with Hashim, which makes it a very casual conversation & doesn’t seem too preachy. These little conversations on such lines will help Hashim understand the religion a lot more & I am sure will help him in changing too. & yes, like I said, the reason for which Rohaan was avoiding the video chat sessions with his family was because he doesn’t want them to see the change in his appearance now as he knows that his family will flip out. It was kind of hasty on Rohaan’s mothers part that she got him engaged without even bothering much about her son’s choices. I am sure that when Eesha & her family will get to meet Rohaan in person, they’ll call off the engagement because of Rohaan’s get up as Eesha’s family seemed pretty liberal & materialistic.

The attack on Rohaan was another portrayal of the real & dark picture that Muslims tend to face in the name of racism. Where Hashim thought Rohaan shouldn’t have reacted, the argument Rohaan presented was justified as well where he thinks enduring the wrath proves that you’re a coward & Rohaan knows that he’s anything but that. Being a peace-loving Muslim doesn’t mean that you allow people to walk over you & for this, he thought he was justified in retaliating which he definitely was.

This episode was a treat to watch because a lot happened this time around too. I totally enjoy the pace of this episode because even for a second it didn’t lose the grip of a viewer. Even though what they showed in the preview was kind of what we’ve seen before where Kashaf & Huma will be angry at Annie, I actually want to watch what Rohaan will say to Hashim. I think this time around may be Rohaan will return to Pakistan & his ordeal of judgments will begin by then.

I know it’s a random thought but I really like the way Fahad Mirza says ‘Ya’ after every sentence of his. I’ll see you ‘ya’, I’ll call you ‘ya’, have food ‘ya’. Haha! Can’t wait to find out more & please share your say on this episode of Shanakht & do let us know how much you’re enjoying watching this drama ‘ya’. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Shikwa-Episode 17

0

Alright, so here we are, done with Shikwa’s 17th episode. Initially, I was getting the impression of’been there seen that’ kind of thing. But in the later half, I found the episode engaging. Sonia Hussain deserves a special mention for owning her character. The portrayal of Mehar’s feelings and emotions has been done to perfection.

Though we often see plays that revolve around matchless marriages but in this show, the way they have portrayed how age difference becomes a hindrance -it’s all truly commendable. In the matter of Sidra’s marriage, Mehar has made her strong opposition very obvious to her mother. A person’s ‘naseeb’ is solely responsible for what happens in one’s life- that’s the ‘justification’ Mehar’s mother came up with to explain that Mehar and Saqib’s marriage was something inevitable as well as ‘ideal’. I know that ‘fate’ and ‘destiny’ are two important factors which influence your life the most. But I don’t think anyone can make up for his/her wrong choices by taking the help of these big words!

Untitled

I admit it’s not nice seeing Mehar as the ‘plotter of the play’ but like I mentioned, her feelings have been portrayed beautifully. What she is doing can’t be justified but then again, that inner battle she had with her conscience went on to show that only her circumstances made her bitter. When Mehar’s mother talked to Saqib about Shariq’s proposal, he did what any sensible guy was supposed to do-give a thumbs up sign. But this infuriated Mehar even more and quite naturally, Saqib started having second thoughts as to whether Mehar is actually happy with him, or is her happiness and satisfaction a part of her pretence?

Untitled1

And yes, Firdaus Aapa came up with another ‘brilliant’ theory- ‘agar shohar ki umar bari ho tou biwi ko bhi bhurhapa tari kar lena chahye’. LOL! I know she meant to say that in such a case, the wife should be more reasonable and practical but the way she put it, was complete comedy! Zubaida Aapa, maan gaye apke totkon ko ;)

Listen to this: Mehar and Sidra’s father ‘magically’ appeared in their phupo’s dream, asking-no, in fact ‘pleading’ her sister to go ahead and ask for Sidra’s hand. Of course we know that Mehar’s phupo is a big fat liar and the way she ‘explained’ her dream was just plain bizarre! History is repeating itself folks. In Mehar’s case it was Mateen vs. Yasir, and now it’s Shariq vs. Yasir. Please note that Yasir remains to be a constant competitor LOL! Iss kay liye aur koi rishte nahe hain kia? Haath dho kay apni cousins kay peechay par gaya hai!

Untitled2

Well, this was pretty much it. The latest installment was comparatively better; let’s see what developments await us. Did you watch the episode? Share your thoughts please!

P.S: I apologize for submitting the review so late  Sorry you guys had to wait!

Last Month in Dramas – AUGUST

0

With a bunch of new dramas hitting the television soon, I thought I’d write an article of this last month in dramas – what’s been airing, what the shows were like etc.
The article is however going to limited to ARY, Hum TV & A-Plus (a bit) & PRIME TIME DRAMAS ONLY [Sorry if this article gets too long :/]

MONDAYs –

* Hum TV: Mere Meherbaan –

This is the only show I watch on Monday & it is still airing. Ayza Khan in her usual victim role & Agha Ali in male lead. Madiha Rizvi, Naleem Muneer, Sanam Ch and more are also in cast. The story is nothing new with plots of cousin jealousy, cousin love engagement broken by new girl that enters, marriage secrets where woman doesn’t know her to-be husband actually has a son and more!

mere meherban1

* ARY: Arranged Marriage –

This one also has Agha Ali & Neelum Munir in its cast, though in a totally different roles. It is still airing & I do no watch it, but from clips I have seen it is about an arranged marriage (obviously!) but the guy actually is having an affair with another woman & even when wife founds out about this she does all she can to save her house (nothing new here)

arranged marriage

TUESDAYs –

* Hum TV: Shanakht –

Literally the only drama I look forward to each week. Currently 4 episodes have gone on air. The drama starring Maya Ali, Noor Hassan & Fahad Mirza. It deals with the hijab and the way the protagonist’s family and friends react to her decision to wear it. I must say, I think until now the writers are surprising me with how much I am actually enjoying this show :)

shanakht

* ARY: Chup Raho

Starring Sajal Ali & Jibran Syed with only 2 episodes that have yet aired. A different genre to the usual dramas, Chup Raho follows the story of a young woman, who is subjected to harsh and cruel abuse. I do not watch it as I personally am not a fan of this genre, though I have heard quite a few people enjoying it.

chup raho

WEDNESDAYs –

* Hum TV: Izteraab –

Final episode aired last week. Starring Saba Qamar & Mikaal Zulfiqaar in lead roles, this was one flop of a drama. I honestly did not understand what this drama was about except that the male lead liked ladies who could cook him garam parathay all day (as explained by Zahra in her patient funny reviews).

izteraab

* ARY: Koi Nahi Apna

Last episode to be aired next Wed on 3rd Sept, it is the same old, same old story. Like a mash up of Dil-e-Muztar & all those dramas where the boy & girl are madly in love, parents don’t like the marriage, marriage goes through anyway, couple of years later, child grown, parents having arguments ….. You get the jist right? The only reason I have watched this is for Fahad Mustafa & Sarwat Gillani because as actors I seriously like them, but boy was I disappointed.

THURSDAYs –

* Hum TV: Janam Jali –

As Kanwal said a couple of weeks ago, this too is my guilty pleasure drama. The story of revolves around Bayjee who believes that it is her right to mistreat her two daughters-in-law because she was mistreated by her mother-in-law. Honestly, I know it a story done a hundred times before but it’s the only thing that catches my eye on Thursdays.

* ARY: Janay Kyun –

The story is about a young couple dealing with the realities of married life. I do not watch this drama because I had the least bit of interest in its plot and actors.

Untitled

* A Plus: Pehchaan –

I started watching this after around 16 episodes had aired when I was convinced by Fatima’s reviews to watch it. A different type of drama written by Bee Gul starring Alishba Yousef & Sohail Sameer about a woman who discovers her strong identity as a strong independent woman, I am pleasantly surprised with its good pace, mazboot aurat story and the acting. Another drama I love forward to weekly :)

FRIDAYs –

* Hum TV: Mausam –

Some like it & some don’t; personally I do not watch it. The drama cast includes Ahsan Khan, Hareem Farooq, Naila Jaffri & Yumna Zaidi. The serial deals with themes of love, bond and jealousy between two cousins Saman and Shazia. From reviews, I can tell that the make-up is all over the place & it definitely does not seem like Hum TV’s best weekly drama (which they tend to air on Fridays)

* ARY: Bhabhi –

Should I say, another guilty pleasure. The drama is based upon post marriage issues. The character of Shazad Sheikh annoys the living daylights out of me; both her voice & the way she wants to apnaa her husband. Sohai Ali Abro again is in her rona dhona role (what a surprise!)

SATURDAYs –

* Hum TV: Laa –

Again, a different concept drama from the rest, its last episode aired on 30th Aug. Genre of romance, drama & spiritual. Meekal Zulfiqar and Saadia Khan were in lead roles. Though I did not watch it, I have read that it was an enjoyable drama to watch for some, with some even saying it was an amazing play. Also it ended after 13 episodes which may have helped to keep its charm.

* ARY: Shikwa –

A story of a struggling family facing the harsh realities of life. With Waseem Abbas, Soniya Hussein & Irsa Ghazal in the main cast, this drama actually started off quite well, but since the past 3 or 4 episodes, it is slowly spiralling downwards, though I do hope they can end this drama well. Also, I must add, I am hugely impressed with Soniya Hussein’s acting recently, she literally makes her character come to life.

SUNDAYs –

* Hum TV: Aahista Aahista –

Starring Adnan Siddiqi, Sarwat Gilani and Mawra Hocane, the serial is shot in San Francisco, USA. It is literally the same old story of two wives, one American, one Pakistani. There are still more characters to be introduced, so I do not think this is ending soon, though I could be wrong. I am watching these episodes with loads of fast-forwarding. Aahista, aahista the episodes send me to sleep. Though I must give immense credit to Zahra for the lively, witty & funny reviews you provide to us after the dreary episode.

* ARY: Jeeto Pakistan Jeeto – A game show

From my knowledge, Izteraab, Koi Nahi Apna, Janay Kyun, Bhabhi & Laa, are either now finished or very nearly finished. I have seen many promos for the new batch of dramas that are going to be aired soon, so let’s wait and see if they are worth watching.

Sadia Imam Blessed With A Baby Girl

0

Many of our beautiful and talented celebrities have entered motherhood lately. All of these ladies who have turned mothers are giving time and attention to their new born babies and are not seen on television much. Sadia Imam moved abroad after getting married therefore the viewers have not seen her much in dramas. The good news is that Sadia Imam had a beautiful baby girl yesterday. The mother and the child both are fine.

Here is a picture of another celebrity mom who is spending all her time with her new born nowadays.

We are very happy for Sadia Imam. We wish her and her little angel all the best.

Consider taking a break, maybe?

0

While flicking across entertainment channels, there are some faces you are BOUND to witness. The reason being-some of our actors simply don’t believe in the concept of ‘taking a break’. They fail to realize that by appearing on- screen so frequently, they are actually digging a hole for themselves because by doing so, they are losing their charm completely.

Following are names of those actors/actresses who desperately need someone to tell them,’ PLEASE take a break yaar!’

• Ahsan Khan

The undisputed shahnshah-e-jazbaat and naakam ashiq of our screens, Ahsan Khan definitely tops my list. Although he is a commendable actor, I am afraid he has lost many of his fans because of his saying-yes-to-every-project policy. I came across a hilarious comment on face -book, that goes on something like this: ‘Faisal Qureshi Geo ka, Meekal Zulfiqar Hum ka, Fahad Mustafa Ary ka aur Ahsan Khan sab ka!’ :P

• Saba Hameed

*drum rolls*Here comes the sadist saas of our industry! I advise all the bahus out there to hide ASAP because this woman spells trouble-particularly for daughter-in-laws. Our famous Bumble Bee definitely needs to take some time off because I have seen her enough for a lifetime! Without any exaggeration, I can confidently say that be it her fury, happiness, grief, satisfaction-I know ALL her expressions by heart! She is a senior actress and all, but I am honestly sick and tired of her monotonous expressions and dialogue delivery. And why is it that in almost every other play, she tries with all her might to prove that she is Adolf Hitler’s long-lost twin or something.

• Sumbul Iqbal

I don’t know about you guys but I seriously wonder: does this girl ever go home? She appears in soo many plays that it is difficult to keep track of them. At one point, she was playing alongside Junaid Khan in two plays (one on Ary and the other on Geo), and in both the serials, the cast was more or less the same-trust me it was so confusing so set one apart from the other. As if seeing her in dramas wasn’t enough, I see her quite frequently in advertisements and tele films too! In the endless list of her dramas, you will find two things in nearly all her plays: a) you will always see her as an ideal beti/bahu/behen/bhabi/maa (please add all the relations that come to mind). b) Those constant teary-eyed and pained expressions on her face. I am fed up of seeing her cooking, cleaning, lecturing, weeping, sobbing, mourning and alas, forgiving (that too like an angel I must say).

• Sana Askari

Looking for a painfully irritating, shrill-voiced, making-you-go-through-hell wali sister/daughter/fiancé/wife/daughter in law? Well, what are you waiting for? Switch on to any channel (I repeat: ANY channel), and the moment you catch a glimpse of Sana Askari- you will find what you were looking for. I just can’t take her screeeeeching voice anymore!

sana askari

• Sajjal Ali

Sajjal-no matter how talented- has lowered the expectations we had from her. There were times when I could see her in every other play-Qudrat, Mera Raqeeb, Aasmon Pe Likha, Sannata, Kahani Raima aur Minahil ki-and you name it!

sajjal ali

• Saba Qamar

Saba Qamar is a phenomenal actress-no debate there! But I feel that she too, should have a more selective approach when it comes to choosing plays to work in. I mean, her talent and efforts were completely wasted in Izteraab and Be Emaan Muhabbat. She should take a break and make her come-back with a strong project in hand.

saba

• Aiza Khan

Without a doubt, she is one of the prettiest faces we have in our industry. I really adore her, but I remember seeing Aiza on every channel. Kahi Unkahi, Adhuri Aurat, Sari Bhool Humari thi, Meri Zindage Hai Tu, Do Qadam Dur Thay, Bikhra Mera Naseeb AND numerous telefilms are to her credit. This is why I for one, never got ‘excited’ when the promos of her new plays hit the screens. But the good thing is that she just got married and that well-deserved and much needed break is exactly what she will now take.

• Adnan Siddiqui

Zoyeiiiii thora tou araam karlo yaar! Tum thak nahe jatay kia??:P Adnan Siddiqui definitely needs to take a break because he HAS lost his charm! If he will continue working the way he is these days, I am afraid I will be seeing him playing a college student’s role very soon :P

adnan siddiqui
I am ending my list right here. I was thinking of including Sami Khan too, but I am not seeing much of him these days, so I feel he HAS taken some rest-which is of course a positive change!

I hope you guys enjoyed reading my article. I would love hear your thoughts on it too!
