Writhe – A Spectacular Art Film

0

Armeena Rana Khan may be a new comer in Pakistan but she has already made her mark abroad with her short film called ‘Writhe’ which was shown in Cannes Film Festival this year in May. It was a huge honor for the whole team of Writhe for their film to get selected at Cannes. It received quite a response from the Hollywood’s most elite crowd. The director, Sharaz Ali was also approached by stars like the Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and James Franco (known for his work in the Spiderman franchise) and he got a chance to have a little chat with them, which was a truly wonderful experience for him.

Recently, there was a private screening held in London and those who attended the screening got to meet the cast and crew, and got an opportunity to ask questions from the whole team. Fox News and ARY UK covered the event and took exclusive interviews from the star cast. The screening turned out to be a huge success and the film was appreciated by everyone present at the screening.

Armeena looked gorgeous in a funky yet classy attire at the screening. Here is a click of Armeena with Sharaz Ali from the screening:

writhe 9

Writhe is a short film directed by Sharaz Ali and features Armeena Rana Khan and Geoff Cooper as the leads. The story revolves around a woman who is abused and mutilated by her boyfriend and this turns her into a cold and forbidding woman and we get to see a pure evil side of her. Her thirst for seeking revenge is so strong that innocent victims become her target and her thirst is only quenched by taking their lives.

And here is a screen shot from the movie:

writhe 10

Since it is an Art film, it is unique and independent and aimed at a niche market rather than the mass audiences. Sharaz Ali once said in an interview that he entered Writhe in the Cannes Film Festival at the very last minute and did not have any high hopes but he was absolutely thrilled to find out that his film had been selected.

Armeena is a Canadian based actress who started her career with modeling and then turned to acting as a hobby but now she has made a successful career out of it. She is currently seen in Shab-e-Arzoo ka Aalam and Happily Married and there are more of her projects in the pipeline.

The unfortunate part is that the people the short film will not be officially released in Pakistan because of Writhe’s different story and unique concept which may not appeal to the audiences here. The concept of art films is new to the audiences here and Writhe might not get the praise or the appreciation that it deserves. According to the director, if things work out the film might be released online.

According to the latest buzz, Armeena Rana Khan will be seen in another short film called ‘Echoes through Eternity’. It will be directed by BAFTA nominated director Aneel Ahmed. This short film is due to be released in 2014. After such a huge success of her first short film, it is not surprising to know that she had been approached by big directors and is quite in demand nowadays. We hope to see her climbing higher on the ladder of success as time passes.

We wish her all the best for her future!

I told her, ‘Don’t expect any support from me because I won’t ask for work for you.’ So, if she’s not there, maybe she hasn’t done that remarkable work. However, I have never heard that she’s a bad actor. I won’t write any script for her because I think she’s not made for films. Yes, she’s suitable for dramas. I recently saw her work in Noor Jahan, and I think she’s good. I was never against her joining showbiz; however, her brother didn’t like her joining the industry.” Here is the link to the video:

Writer Farhat Ishtiaq Isn’t Satisfied With The Direction Of ‘Yeh Dil Mera’

Hum TV’s drama Yeh Dil Mera has been garnering some top ratings for Wednesday on the channel. Written by veteran writer Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Aehsun Talish, Yeh Dil Mera stars Adnan Siddiqui, Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir in the lead roles. Part of the appeal of the drama is the Sahad couple being romantic leads in the drama after having announced their engagement and the rest of the credit goes to writer Farhat Ishtiaq for having penned a romantic thriller so well.

However, it seems, the writer isn’t really happy with the direction and nor is the audience as a number of them have been left confused after some scenes have flown by without proper flashbacks or linking.

In response to a tweet from a viewer, Farhat Ishtiaq had earlier mentioned that there had been some problems with editing and direction in the drama.

In another tweet while replying to the same thread, Farhat Ishtiaq also mentioned that a particular scene could have been shot better in line with the script so as to not confuse the viewers.

This tweet of the veteran writer leaves us in confusion; are writers not consulted when their scripts are being directed into films or dramas. We recently heard Khalil ur Rehman Qamar stating that he never allowed directors to change scenes in his scripts so why can’t all writers do this? Why do directors not pay attention to minor details that link stories in scripts?

What do you have to say about the confusion that the missing links in Yeh Dil Mera that have been caused by problematic direction and editing? Leave your views in the comments below.

Wow!! Kubra Khan Has Never Been This Blunt Before!

Kubra Khan was invited to Mazaq Raat show with rest of the cast of Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2. Vasay Chaudhry’s questions were interesting and the honesty with which everyone answered these questions made them even more so. Kubra Khan’s bluntness and spontaneity was something new for us. Most of times celebrities avoid answering questions which involve other celebrities but Kubra proved that she has no problem answering such questions. Kubra Khan spoke her mind without being diplomatic and we loved that about her.

Wow!! Kubra Khan Has Never Been This Blunt Before!

When the host Vasay Chaudhry asked Kubra whose call she would answer immediately, which celebrity’s call she will not answer but will message as a reply and which actresses’ call will she reject and even turn her phone off. Kubra did not take long to answer the question. The options were 1. Mehwish Hayat 2. Urwa Hocane 3. Sajal Aly. Kubra replied that she will attend Urwa’s call, message Mehwish and reject Sajal’s phone call.

Wow!! Kubra Khan Has Never Been This Blunt Before!

Vasay Chaudhry also asked Kubra Khan which celebrity will she marry, friend zone and ignore. He gave her these options 1. Shehryar Munawar 2. Hamza Ali Abbasi 3. Ahad Raza Mir. She immediately said that she will friend zone Hamza Ali Abbasi and ignore Shehryar Munawar! She decided she would much rather kill Ahad Raza Mir than choosing the marrying option! She apologized to Ahad and we loved her overall attitude!

Talking about it, he said, “I will change the way I did my wedding events. I will not do numerous wedding events, and will not also spend too much money on my wedding because now inflation is on the rise and also the economic situation in Pakistan is worst, we are seeing people barely managing their bread and butter and other expenses, so, how can I celebrate the things. Now, I have cut down my big events. Celebrating kids’ birthdays is another thing but we don’t do huge events now” Here is the link to the video:

Worth-watching Long Plays/Tele-films!

Apart from churning out one play after another, our TV channels also focus on producing long plays/tele-films. I think the channels have to work a lot harder because many a time I have noticed that the direction, acting, locations and production values of a tele-film are not always up to the mark. In fact, I sometimes find myself comparing recent tele-films and long plays with old ones that we used to watch on PTV, and realize that our standards have indeed deteriorated.
Here are some long plays and tele-films I thoroughly enjoyed:
• Behadd
Produced by Momina Duraid, written by Umera Ahmed, directed by Asim Raza, starring Nadia Jameel, Fawad Khan and Sajal Ali, without a question, ‘Behadd’ tops my list because what more could you wish for? The plot was well-thought out, the dialogues were touching, characterization was convincing and the production values were flawless. Nadia Jameel, Fawad Khan and Sajal Ali outdid themselves and kudos to the director for making ‘Behadd’ a viewer’s delight :) I can watch this tele-film over and over again without getting bored.

• Ek Mohabbat 100 Afsaanay
I think it’s impossible to talk about long plays and forget Ashfaq Ahmed’s amazing works. I am sure you all have your favourites from this series but my all-time favourite HAS to be ‘Qurat-ul-Ain’. The ‘love’ depicted in this masterpiece was actually the love a person has for his plans, dreams, aims and profession. The story focused on a young man who only had one goal in life-to be a pilot. But his whole world shatters when the doctor tells him he doesn’t have 6X6 eyesight, which is required for the profession he is looking up to. The guy was so obsessed with his life-long dream to become a pilot that he finds it impossible to bear this loss and loses his mental stability. My eyes always brim with tears when I watch the last scene of this long play :/

• Qissa Saat Raaton Ka
A long time back, a long play starring Shahood Alvi and Nabeel was aired on PTV. The play falls in the ‘Horror’ genre. The story focused on a man named Ramiz (Shahood Alvi) who accepts a challenge put forth by his fiancé, and agrees to spend a night in his dada ji ki spooky haveli. Ramiz gets a lot more than he had bargained for when he finds out that the haveli is haunted by the aggrieved spirit of a man (Nabeel) who died before he could ask his mother for forgiveness. Overcome by pain and remorse, the way Nabeel’s injured spirit says, ‘Mein tou maafi maangne ja raha tha’, really scared the living daylights out of me! The play was truly worth-watching and good news for those who haven’t watched it: it’s easily available on tune.pk and dailymotion (in poor quality though). Both Shahood Alvi and Nabeel looked so young in this play! I’m sorry I couldn’t find a good picture for this play :/

• Nishan-e-Haider
‘Nishan-e-Haider’ series was a great initiative taken to pay tribute to our fearless heroes such as Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed, Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed and many more! Their heart-wrenching stories and undeniable efforts to save the country were perfectly portrayed in this series. Though this play was aired a long time back, the army scenes and action sequences were done amazingly well. The director did a commendable job and the actors were also true to their characters.

• Kahani Ek Raat Ki (Lamha)
The main focus of the series,‘Kahani Ek Raat Ki’ was how one eventful night can change a person’s life completely. ‘Lamha’, starring Aiza Khan and Affan Waheed, was one of the initial episodes of this series, ‘Kahani Ek Raat Ki’. I chanced upon this one while flicking across channels. The story revolved around two young lovers who run away from home to get married but while waiting for the train that’s supposed to take them away, the two find themselves asking one same question: ‘What if their love is not enough’? You may think this looks like a filmy lame love story but believe me-it’s not! Just give it a go and you will be surprised for sure. The sweet and simple story offered a great message for all youngsters out their who make hasty decisions without forethought. And yes, Aiza Khan (by the way, her bangs looked truly adorable) and Affan Waheed shared sizzling chemistry on-screen!

lamha

I find people raving about tele-films like ‘Tamanna ki Tamanna’ starring Sanam Saaed and Bilal Khan, and ‘Ek tha Raja Ek thi Rani’, starring Hamza Ali Abbasi and Sarwat Gillani, but since I didn’t watch any of these, I couldn’t say much about them. If you have watched any of these, tell me more about them. I am sure you all have many names to add to my short and precise list, so please feel free to share your thoughts!

Worst Plot Twists in Pakistani Dramas

0

Plot twists are used by writers to bring about a major turn in the direction of the story. Such twists can come in the beginning, middle or at the end of any fictional writing. Pakistani drama writers also add these twists to their stories to make them more compelling. Such a twist must always be convincing, unpredictable and the timing should be perfect as well. While there are many writers who managed to shock their viewers by these twists, there are also those who use done-to-death scenarios in order to bring about this change in the story. Since most of the Pakistani dramas revolve around love triangles, most of these plot twists change the course of these love stories. Setting the basic foundation for such a plot twist is important but the best plot twists are the ones that are the most unexpected. If the writer lays down the foundations for something that is expected and especially something that has been done multiple times before then the surprise factor is obviously completely missing from it. A plot twist introduced at the wrong time or one which does not surprise but disappoint the viewers is the worst thing a writer can do to the story.

Unfortunately, in some of the Pakistani dramas that are currently on air and some which recently ended, the writers added the most unconvincing and pointless plot twists.

Dil Ruba

Sanam becomes the victim magically in the end

Anyone who has watched Dil Ruba will agree that in a failed attempt to be ‘different’ the writer added a plot twist in the end which was simply ridiculous. The entire drama rested on the premise that a young girl made some terrible choices and as a consequence, she suffered a lot. While the story was quite superficial, the plot twist, in the end, was not only unconvincing but forced as well. Although Sanam’s intentions and her choices were made pretty clear in the entire drama, in the end, the writer made her a victim! This was perhaps his idea of a ‘plot twist’ – taking the viewers completely by surprise – but it made Dil Ruba’s ending the worst part of the drama. Sanam lectured Junaid and he apologized to her. Had he not suffered because of her? She made it sound like he was equally responsible for falling for her and that she never tried to entice him. The viewers heard one illogical explanation after another.

Worst Plot Twists in Pakistani Dramas
This was perhaps an attempt by the writer to ‘shock’ the viewers and not end the drama on a typical note. Well, sometimes keeping it typical but real is better than adding a plot twist at the end which has no justification. The change in Sanam was too last minute and what made it worse was that the second she seeks forgiveness for her misdoings, she started judging others! The writer chose a really lame way of showing that when two people have a relationship, both of them are equally responsible for the outcome. Somehow, the viewers were not supposed to feel for Junaid but for Sanam only! Sanam’s ending was even worse than those leading men in Pakistani dramas who do every wrong thing possible throughout but in the end, are forgiven like they did nothing wrong.

Tera Ghum aur Hum

Achanak nikkah

Tera Ghum aur Hum’s entire story rested on a love triangle and it was a refreshing story for the longest time. Then the writer decided to add the done-to-death track of the male lead being the husband of two wives. The male lead Ali for the longest time was an ideal hero, he loved his wife for who she was. His unconditional love was appealing and believable. Well, the producers were not satisfied showing this ‘one woman’ man in a television drama so they decided to add a ‘twist’ to the story. Ali finally fell for Sara’s manipulation and went as far as entering into a nikkah with her. This was the worst twist ever in the story after which the story started going downhill. He took his first wife, the love of his life, Mahi ‘into confidence’ only after he got married to Sara. Why couldn’t he talk to her first and figure something out? By adding this twist the writer took away the best part of Ali’s personality and the drama but continued trying hard to make Ali look like the ideal husband again!

Worst Plot Twists in Pakistani Dramas

After this twist, the same old negativity and the constant power struggle between the two wives started. Ali married Sara but refused to be her husband! Sara went ahead and gave Mahi pills to abort her baby, another twist which has been shown in dramas so many times. As if this was not enough, lately another character has been introduced in the drama, and very soon Ali will be shown doubting Mahi and thinking she is not happy with him. Sara will of course be playing a major role in making him mistrust Mahi. Tera Ghum aur Hum is the perfect example of how one bad twist can ruin an entire story.

Nand

Gohar’s Return

Drama serial Nand might be typical but it has always been logical. Other than that, the writer had not used Gohar’s negativity to gain TRPs. This negativity for the longest time was used to send out positive messages. Since Nand has been getting so many ratings, in order to extend the story, the writer added the worst plot twist possible. Just when people thought Rabi’s life will finally be running smoothly and the drama was headed towards a happy ending, Gohar decided to come back to Jahangir. Gohar’s greed made no sense because she comes from an equally wealthy family. Even though her brothers were sick and tired of her, they would never have refused to give her all the luxuries. Yet somehow she chose to come back to Jahangir who he had just accused of domestic violence. It is quite obvious that Pakistani production houses understand that when two wives fight over a man, it can lead to a never-ending power struggle therefore this twist was added to the story. After this plot twist, everything has gone haywire and this is another example of how differently a story can go just because of one such development.

Worst Plot Twists in Pakistani Dramas

Once Gohar was back not only was she forgiven but her foolish mother-in-law is doing everything in her power to support her. Nand is going to lose many fans and followers because of this latest twist in the story. A drama that was meaningful and entertaining has turned into another typical story because of this twist.

Sabaat

Hassan doubting Anaya

Hassan and Anaya’s track was perhaps the only thing about Sabaat which excited the viewers. Both of them were intelligent people who fell madly in love. When they moved out of Hassan’s house to live independently, the viewers wanted them to bloom as a couple. However, their track actually started going downhill from that point and there was no turning back. The latest plot twist showing how Hassan fell for Atif’s lies and went as far as believing that Anaya was having an affair was the worst thing the writer could do to a story. Hassan’s over-reliance on someone like Atif never made sense but everything that he has done lately is even more ridiculous. The writer has given Sabaat a ‘Hamsafar twist’ by adding this development but it has been completely void of logic. At a time when viewers wanted to see the antagonist Miraal suffer, the writer decided to introduce this unpleasant change in the story. Not only this, so many weeks were ‘invested’ in setting the ground for this development. Even though Sabaat has more than its fair share of ridiculous scenarios, this one definitely tops the list.

Worst Plot Twists in Pakistani Dramas

Can you think of a twist in any of the recent Pakistani dramas that really disappointed you? Do you agree that the part of the problem is that there is so much pressure on the writers to stretch the story that they tend to rely on such scenarios? Share your views.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

There is no denying the fact that the Pakistani drama industry is blessed with the most talented actors who most often leave the viewers in awe of their performances. However, no one can be at their best all the time but viewers expect better from actors who have given some brilliant performances in the past. While these actors are great performers otherwise, there are always those instances when they either overact or fail to breathe life into their characters. In an attempt to be ‘different’ these actors tend to give performances that are simply the worst. A script of course makes a huge difference but sometimes an average written character too can become likable if the actor performing the role gives a good performance.

actors play a pivotal role in ensuring that the characters they are enacting on-screen turn out to be convincing and relatable. While there were so many actors who gave commendable performances this year, there were also some actors who killed the essence of the characters they were translating on screen because of their misleading and unimpressive performances. These actors turned out to be the weakest links in few plays which were otherwise brilliant in terms of script, acting, and even direction. These performances can easily be classified as the worst performances because these actors completely failed to do justice to the characters they chose to play on screen. There were some actors who fail to deliver because their characters were so badly written that they probably didn’t have enough incentive to give it their best. There were also those actors who were simply not meant to play the role they had taken up and therefore they ended up giving the worst performances.

Here are those Pakistani actors who gave the worst performances in 2020.

[lwptoc]

Hira Mani – Mere Pass Tum Ho

Hira Mani has earned a lot of fan following in the past few years. She also takes pride in the fact that she is the only actress who managed to make such a big name for herself even though she joined the drama industry after she got married and was already a mother. In Mere Pass Tum Ho Hira Mani joined the drama late as Rumi’s teacher Hania. Right from her first scene, Hira Mani failed to bring out the best side of her character. Her overall look was another factor that made it difficult for the viewers to take her character as a teacher seriously. This character did not need any kind of glamour yet Hira Mani’s revealing sarees made the viewers wonder what she was thinking while choosing her wardrobe. Hania’s character was somewhat complex and it had many shades. Unfortunately, the only shade which Hira Mani truly nailed was that of being a judgmental outsider. She completely failed to portray the loving and sensitive side of her character properly on screen. Hania’s character could have been far more graceful if Hira Mani was less of herself and more of the character she was playing.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Osman Khalid Butt – Ehd-e-Wafa

Osman Khalid Butt is another popular actor who has been part of some of the biggest dramas recently. While Osman Khalid Butt does wonders when he is playing a fun or comic character, he cannot act to save his life in more serious roles. Ehd-e-Wafa had some really powerful performances to its credit by young and old actors therefore Osman Khalid Butt’s wooden acting stood out like a sore thumb. Other than a few scenes, Osman Khalid Butt’s performance left a lot to be desired. His long hair right from the beginning was distracting and he looked older than all the other boys. Once his character Shahzain went back to his village and he had to play the role of a spoiled feudal, he did not fit into it at all! He either had no expressions or way too many expressions, basically his acting was anything but effortless. Since he got more screen time than all the other leading actors for many weeks, his bad performance stood out even more. Out of all the boys playing the lead in the drama, Osman Khalid Butt’s performance was most disappointing. Osman Khalid Butt has once again proved that he lacks versatility and he can do only certain types of characters. When he has to do serious roles, he most often loses track and the viewers find it really difficult to relate to his characters. Osman Khalid Butt should stick to doing light and comic roles since he clearly finds it really difficult to do serious ones.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Irsa Ghazal – Ruswai

Irsa Ghazal is a phenomenal actress but her acting in Ruswai was the perfect example of overacting which literally got on your nerves right from her very first appearance. Irsa Ghazal played the role of Salma, who was the mother of the main lead Salman. She was a materialistic and controlling rich woman with absolutely no class. Thanks to Irsa Ghazal’s acting in the drama the ‘no class’ element of her character stood out more than any other. Irsa Ghazal tried a little too hard to make people hate her character and in turn, ended up being terribly annoying. Saba Faisal and Saba Hameed have been seen playing similar roles in dramas often and they managed to be negative without being extremely annoying like Irsa Ghazal. Irsa Ghazal tried harder than necessary to play the vamp with her over-exaggerated body language and a weird manner of talking which did not go well with her character. Salma was shown as an educated yet shallow woman but Irsa Ghazal’s portrayal was such that Salma came across as an annoying wannabe. Her acting made you wonder why someone like Ariz Khan got married to her in the first place. In order to look fake, Irsa Ghazal seriously compromised on her acting. We expected better from her since she is such a good actress otherwise.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Imran Ashraf – Kahin Deep Jalay

Imran Ashraf recently gave the best performance of his career as Bhola and is mesmerizing the viewers with his performance in Mushk. While we absolutely loved Imran Ashraf in so many dramas because he is such a daring and brilliant actor, he completely failed to deliver in the play Kahin Deep Jalay. He is probably the only Pakistani actor who gave the best and the worst performance this year! Imran Ashraf played a negative character in the play with the utmost bechargi! People even thought that his scenes were comic because of the expressions and the overall acting. This basically goes to show how a bad script can influence the performance of an actor.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Iqra Aziz – Jhooti

Iqra Aziz gave the finest performance of her career when she played Norri’s role in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. Yet, she decided to be a part of a drama such as Jhooti and the worst part of the drama was the treatment she gave her character. Even though the role she played was unappealing but Iqra definitely did not give it her best. It was quite apparent from her performance that she did not take this project carefully and her sole aim was to look overconfident and vibrant. Her performance was not natural and was the perfect example of overacting.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Sanam Jung – Mein Na Janoo

After hosting morning shows for so many years, many of us were looking forward to Sanam Jung’s comeback to acting but the projects she chose to be a part of in 2020 have been the worst. Sanam Jung played a character that was incredibly annoying in Mein Na Janoo and she made sure that her portrayal was even more annoying! Sanam Jung clearly concentrated more on her make-up, hair, and dresses than she did on her acting. Even though Saira’s character itself was quite lame but Sanam Jung made it even more so by nailing the bechargi and overdoing it even in situations where she was shown as a relatively stronger individual. Even when Saira told her mother to take a stand in so many scenes or when she was reassuring her husband of her love, Sanam Jung still did not change her expressions. Even while uttering dialogues which showed Saira’s strength, Sanam Jung made sure she looked like a victim. Sanam Jung’s expressions and her hairstyle are two things that stayed the same no matter what her character went through! She sported similar looks and expressions all through the drama which was enough to put the viewers to sleep.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Firdous Jamal – Thora Sa Haq

It is definitely ironic that an actor like Firdous Jamal who is so experienced and has given so many impressive performances was all of a sudden seen overacting in the play Thora Sa Haq. Firdous Jamal’s character in the play was simple, and it could even be quite likable, yet his acting was over-the-top right from the start. His portrayal was a serious case of too many expressions and trying too hard. Why would a seasoned actor like him do something like that? We can only wonder! Watching Firdous Jamal’s scenes in Thora Sa Haq was tormenting because his overacting was simply unbearable. Even some of the younger actors gave far better performances than him.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Kinza Hashmi – Deewar-e-Shab

Kinza Hashmi has played leading roles in many dramas and even if she does not stand out, she always gives a decent performance. In Deewar-e-Shab however, she gave the most unimpressive performance and it was because of her bad acting that her character never had an impact. Even though she was playing a supporting role and did not have a lot scenes, she looked disinterested even in these few scenes. Her character was written in such a way that it could have been likable but the treatment given to this character by Kinza, killed its essence altogether. This was definitely the worst performance by an actress who is capable of doing much better.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Natasha Hussain – Ye Dil Mera

Natasha Hussain is a well-known model who made her comeback in dramas with the play Ye Dil Mera. Ye Dil Mera was a popular play with some big names attached to it. Natasha Hussain played the role of Farhana Khala, a sister, wife, and khala whose role was limited but crucial to the plot. Farhana Khala all of a sudden was shown being highly inquisitive about her sister’s death and that is when the viewers repeatedly got to see scenes covering her curious mind. Natasha Hussain’s character itself didn’t have a lot to offer either but her performance made it even more annoying. From her outlook to her expressions, everything was all over the place! You would expect better from someone who has had so much exposure. Natasha Hussain took Farhana Khala’s curiosity to a whole new level with her exaggerated expressions. She tried too hard to show Farhana’s puzzling state of mind and ended up leaving the viewers puzzled whether they should watch her scenes or just forward them! Natasha Hussain was also seen wearing more make-up than necessary in all the scenes and it did not even look like it has been done by a professional. She could have kept her look casual and stylish at the same time but that has definitely not been the case. In most of the scenes, she dressed up like a teenager which did not help! Did Natasha Hussain think she needed to show that she could still pull off the looks Sajal Ali was sporting in the drama, even at this age?! It certainly seemed like it!

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Adeel Hussain – Daasi

Adeel Hussain won the viewers over with his style of acting when he starred in the drama serial Daam. Later on he was loved by the viewers when he starred in Mata-e-Jaan Hei Tu and after that, every time he starred in a drama his acting was loved by the viewers. After being part of one hit drama after the other and starring in two of the biggest Pakistani films, Adeel Hussain simply disappeared from the scene. His fans were left wondering if they will ever get to see him on television again or if he will limit his career to working in films. When Adeel Hussain announced that he was making a comeback on television, his fans were ecstatic. They were waiting to see which drama he will be a part of since every drama Adeel had been a part of had something or the other to offer. Unfortunately, Adeel Hussain’s comeback drama serial Daasi turned out to be a mega disappointment. Adeel Hussain is one of those actors who always share great on-screen chemistry with their co-stars but in the drama serial Daasi, that chemistry, and the spark was completely missing. Right from the first episode neither the drama nor Adeel’s character left an impact on the viewers. Most of the fans who do not want to break Adeel’s heart are just silent and others who are more honest shared their disappointment with the kind of project Adeel chose to be a part of.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Adeel Chaudhry – Uraan

Adeel Chaudhry is another actor who has worked in Bollywood, Lollywood and has recently worked in some of the most popular dramas on Geo Entertainment. He played the leading role in the popular drama serial Uraan this year. His ‘limited dialogue’ delivery and expressions made it impossible for the viewers to feel for him even though he was shown as a nice man. The botox treatments he got done on his face definitely add to these limitations. He concentrated on looking perfect more than anything else in the drama. Out of all the actors who were part of Uraan, Adeel’s performance was the worst.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Usman Mukhtar – Sabaat

Usman Mukhtar got a lot of appreciation and love for his performance in Anaa. Most of the viewers actually tuned into Sabaat because they wanted to see what kind of a role he would be playing in the drama. Well, not only was the role he played disappointing, to say the least, his performance was the weakest link in the play. He looked bored and disinterested. He did not even look good on screen because of the procedure he got done to cover his receding hairline. Even though Harris’ character was not written well, Usman Mukhtar definitely did not even try to make it bearable. His monotone dialogue delivery disappointed his fans a lot.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Zahid Ahmed – Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida

Zahid Ahmed is another actor who has given some impressive performances in the past but this year he chose to be a part of some of the most badly written and executed dramas. His acting in Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida is just as ‘weird’ as the character he is playing. In the first few episodes, Zahid Ahmed tried really hard to look ‘cute’. He was also seen hyperventilating even when it was not needed! This has been Zahid Ahmed’s way of showing his disappointment or excitement in the drama. Zahid Ahmed tried to give this character a ‘comic’ spin even though there is nothing funny about most of the situations shown in the drama. Whenever he has to show that Shahaan is worried about something or he is angry, his expressions are never on point.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Zara Noor Abbas – Zebaish

It is enough of testimony when the actors themselves admit that they have approached the character in a wrong way and have portrayed it by relying on over-acting. Zara Noor Abbas is one such actor who herself admitted that she went overboard. The acting done by Zara Noor Abbas in the drama serial Zebaish is so bad that it actually makes you question whether she should be working as an actress or not. It also forces you to think that she actually got so far on the basis of nepotism because the talent showcased in this project is next to zero. The fact that she can do boisterous roles makes Zara Noor Abbas think that she can always go overboard and get away with it. However, it is fortunate for the Pakistani drama viewers that Zara’s performance in Zebaish got criticized so much that we all will probably be spared from this overacting show put up by her in her future projects.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Asma Abbas – Zebaish

It is quite painful for us to add Asma Abbas, one of the finest and experienced actors in the Pakistani drama industry to this list but we are left with no choice. It is justified to say that Asma Abbas herself left no stone unturned in making it to this list because of the kind of acting she has done in Zebaish. It leaves the viewers baffled that an actor who can literally dictate what she wants out of the script and her character chose to have such a poor approach towards the character of Nadira that the kind of treatment and get up she chose for her made it look like she was not at all serious, to begin with. Nadira became completely glamorous just when her husband recently passed away and she along with her daughter was basically being a free-loader at Shahana’s place. The amount of makeup, the height of backcombing, and change of clothing with each and every sneeze along with heavy statement jewelry pieces have made Nadira look like a caricature who is not supposed to be taken seriously and to top it all off, the over-exaggerated expressions make you squint so bad that your eyes hurt!

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Iqbal Hussain – Zebaish

Iqbal Hussain deserves a special place in this list because he has two feathers to his cap, one for being a poor director of the drama serial and also a poor actor in the same drama that he has directed. In every single scene, Iqbal Hussain comes and goes like a flying hawk. It is very much obvious that the entire cast along with the director only paid the utmost attention to their styling and clothing, it was almost as if they all wanted to dress up for a fancy dress show and decided to turn it into a drama for their time pass. Delivering the dialogue as if he is going to run out of breath the next very minute makes it quite irritating to see him perform in Zebaish!

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Babar Ali – Zebaish

Babar Ali, who would’ve thought that at this stage of his career where he can totally opt for such graceful and amazing projects, Babar Ali will land himself a drama like this where his character will be shallow and acting will be shallower. More than an actor, Babar Ali looks like a comedian in this drama. Luckily for Babar Ali, he just appeared in the drama serial Tarap through which he sent a clear cut message to the rest of the casting directors that he can still act properly because if Tarap wouldn’t have been in the picture, people would’ve thought after all these years, Babar Ali has forgotten how to act!

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Zoya Nasir – Zebaish

Zoya Nasir plays the role of Tashi in the drama serial Zebaish and it can not be expressed enough how painful it is to watch her eye rolls and tongue twists in each and every scene. We’re pretty sure at such an early stage of her career, Zoya Nasir must’ve thought she landed herself a project with a dream team and such big names, only to find out that this was nothing but a circus and she became the front runner of it. Tashi is probably one of the main leads in the drama but the character is bad and Zoya Nasir’s acting is worse. We are sure in her heart somewhere she must be blaming the director and cursing the time when she signed this project.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Asad Siddique – Zebaish

Asad Siddique definitely must’ve felt at home, considering he was surrounded by his wife, his mother in law, his aunt in law too and also Zara Noor Abbas’s cousin because, throughout this drama, it is so obvious that Asad Siddique was so so so comfortable that he was having a hard time staying awake to deliver his dialogues without sounding sleepy. Asad Siddique has done some decent work in the past but his acting in this drama makes it look like he is just frustrated and wants to get over with this circus ASAP, hence the lack of interest and enthusiasm in his body language.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Shaheen Khan – Zebaish

Uf, the less said the better but with the amount of torture she has put us through, she definitely deserves some golden words. Not only the character of Fakhira was bad, Shaheen Khan decided to make it worse with her acting. Her performance is enough to make someone bang their head in the wall and on top of that, the purposeless character seriously makes you question the existence of this drama in Pakistani drama history. There’s no denying the fact that Shaheen Khan has looked gorgeous in this drama with subtle makeup and beautiful elaborate wardrobe, but like said before, it seems the ‘only’ focus of the entire cast of Zebaish was on dressing, makeup, and looking good – acting aur characters mai kya rakha hai?

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Emaad Irfani – Jalan

This was one such project where the viewers were excited to see Emaad Irfani, especially right after Cheekh because, in that drama, he played the role of a loving husband and earned a massive amount of fan following. In the drama serial Cheekh, Emaad Irfani got the chance to showcase his acting skills and he did well, however in Jalan, not only his character was bad, his acting wasn’t up to the mark too. The constipated expressions that too when he was trying to showcase his emotions subtly just didn’t help at all. In those scenes where he had to show Asfand’s anger and agitation, Emaad’s acting was shaky and quite poor, which made it obvious that he too was having a hard time conveying those emotions confidently.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Areeba Habib – Jalan

Areeba Habib tried her best but she couldn’t really perform well in the drama serial Jalan. It was also because it became quite hard to see any expressions on her face, which took away the impact her character or acting would’ve made, showcasing the pain Misha was going through. Areeba Habib seemed frozen in almost all the scenes and the few emotional ones where she had to cry her heart out, she couldn’t really put her soul into her performance. At every step of the way, it became quite obvious that she was having a hard time embracing the character of Misha and the misery she was put through.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Alizeh Shah – Mera Dil Mera Dushman

In this entire drama serial, the director couldn’t take the camera off Alizeh Shah’s face. There’s no denying the fact that she is extremely beautiful and pleasant to look at but to see a girl carrying painful expression in 60+ episodes was daunting. Also, it was quite amusing that half of her face was covered with her hair, in order to hide the changes in her appearance. The burnt orange/brown hair color did her no favors because it looked like she went to a parlor in some neighborhood and the parlor wali baji did some failed experiment on her hair. Alizeh Shah is a bad crier and she makes it quite obvious that she has a hard time portraying those emotions and the fact that she had to do just exactly that in order to play the role of an ultimate bechari was terrifying.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Noaman Sami – Mera Dil Mera Dushman

Noaman Sami got a lot of publicity because he was supposedly Alizeh Shah’s ‘boyfriend’. Luckily for him, his association with her did him some favors because the kind of acting (or lack of) he displayed in Mera Dil Mera Dushman made it obvious that Noaman Sami doesn’t know the A of acting with B and C, not even in the picture. Noaman Sami’s acting was poker face at its best, throughout the drama, that too which was quite demanding in terms of emotions because Shahmeer too had huge baggage attached to him. Noaman Sami focused a lot more on looking cute than actually conveying Shahmeer’s struggles and emotions!

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

Sumbul Shahid – Nand

Sumbul Shahid is such a cute considerate sister because she didn’t want to leave her sister Asma Abbas alone in this list, she decided to give her company by giving a weak performance which would earn her a spot here. In drama serial Nand, Sumbul Shahid happens to be the only actor who hasn’t really given a convincing performance. The fact that the character played by her is absolutely clueless doesn’t help the situation either. Sumbul Shahid has found it hard to give the right expressions in basic and common situations. She is cute but she can’t act.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Dramas 2020

This completes the list of worst performances seen in Pakistani dramas this year. Which one of these performances did you find weak? Feel free to add more names to the list.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

There is no denying the fact that Pakistani drama industry is blessed with the best. There is no dearth of talent when it comes to acting but there are always times when some actors fail to give good performances. No one can be at their best all the time but viewers expect better from actors who have given some brilliant performances in the past. While these actors are really good performers otherwise, there are always those instances when they either overact or fail to breathe life into their characters. In an attempt to be ‘different’ these actors tend to give performances which are simply the worst. A script of course makes a huge difference but sometimes an average written character too can become likable if the actor performing the role gives a good performance.

Unfortunately, some of the biggest actors recently gave worst performances. Here is the list of those Pakistani actors who gave the worst performances in the recent dramas.

Natasha Hussain (Ye Dil Mera)

Natasha Hussain is a well-known model who made her comeback in dramas with the play Ye Dil Mera. Ye Dil Mera is a popular play with some big names attached to it. Natasha Hussain is playing the role of Farhana Khala, a sister, wife and khala whose role is limited but crucial to the plot. Farhana Khala all of a sudden is shown being highly inquisitive about her sister’s death and that is when the viewers repeatedly got to see scenes covering her curious mind. Natasha Hussain’s character itself doesn’t have a lot to offer but her performance makes it even more annoying. From her outlook to her expressions, everything is all over the place! You would expect better from someone who has had so much exposure in the industry. Natasha Hussain has taken Farhana Khala’s curiosity to a whole new level with her exaggerated expressions. She has tried too hard to show Farhana’s puzzling state of mind and has ended up leaving the viewers puzzled whether they should watch her scenes or just forward them! Natasha Hussain is also seen wearing more make-up than necessary in all the scenes and it does not even look like it has been done by a professional. She could have kept her look casual and stylish at the same time but that has definitely not been the case. In most of the scenes she has dressed up like a teenager which does not help! Did Natasha Hussain think she needed to show that she could still pull of the looks Sajal Ali is sporting in the drama, even at this age?! It certainly seems like it!

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

Osman Khalid Butt (Ehd-e-Wafa)

Osman Khalid Butt is a really popular actor who has been part of some of the biggest dramas recently. While Osman Khalid Butt does wonders when he is playing a fun or comic character, he cannot act to save his life in the more serious roles. Ehd-e-Wafa has some really powerful performances to its credit by young and old actors therefore Osman Khalid Butt’s wooden acting stands out like a sore thumb. More than 20 episodes of Ehd-e-Wafa have gone on air till now and out of all these episodes, Osman Khalid Butt has acted well only in few scenes. His long hair right from the beginning were distracting and he looked older than all the other boys. Once his character Shahzain went back to his village and he had to play the role of a spoiled feudal, he did not fit into it at all! He either had no expressions or way too many expressions, basically his acting has been anything but effortless. Since he got more screen time than all the other leading actors for many weeks, his bad performance stood out even more. Out of all the boys playing the lead in the drama, Osman Khalid Butt’s performance has been most disappointing. Osman Khalid Butt has once again proved that he lacks versatility and he can do only certain type of characters. When he has to do more serious roles, he completely loses track and the viewers find it really difficult to relate to his track. Osman Khalid Butt should stick to doing light and comic roles since he clearly cannot do serious acting.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

Hira Mani (Mere Pass Tum Ho)

Hira Mani has earned a lot of fan following in the past few years. She also takes pride in the fact that she is the only actress who managed to make such a big name for herself even though she joined the drama industry after she got married and was already a mother. In Mere Pass Tum Ho Hira Mani joined the drama late as Rumi’s teacher Hania. Right from her first scene Hira Mani failed to bring out the best side of her character. Her overall look was another factor which made it difficult for the viewers to take her character as a teacher seriously. This character did not need any kind of glamour yet Hira Mani’s revealing sarees made the viewers wonder what she was thinking while choosing her wardrobe. Hania’s character was tricky and it had many shades. Unfortunately, the only shade which Hira Mani truly nailed was that of being a judgmental outsider. She completely failed to portray the loving and sensitive side of her character properly on screen. Hira Mani is another actress who has the same expressions no matter what role she is playing. She also tends to overdo the ‘cuteness’ whether the role demands it or not. Hania’s character could have been far more graceful if Hira Mani was less of herself and more of the character she was playing.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

Irsa Ghazal (Ruswai)

Irsa Ghazal is a phenomenal actress but her acting in Ruswai is the perfect example of overacting which literally gets on your nerves right from her very first appearance. Irsa Ghazal plays the role of Salma, who is the mother of main lead Salman. She is a materialistic and controlling rich woman with absolutely no class. Thanks to Irsa Ghazal’s pathetic acting in the drama the ‘no class’ element of her character stands out more than anything else. Irsa Ghazal did not have to try so hard to make people hate her character but she did and in turn ended up being terribly annoying. Saba Faisal and Saba Hameed have been seen playing similar roles in dramas often and they managed to be negative without being extremely annoying like Irsa Ghazal. Irsa Ghazal has tried harder than necessary to play the vamp with her over exaggerated body language and a weird manner of talking which does not go well with her character. Salma has been shown as an educated yet shallow woman but Irsa Ghazal’s portrayal is such that Salma comes across as an annoying wannabe. Her acting makes you wonder why someone like Ariz Khan got married to her in the first place. In order to look fake, Irsa Ghazal has seriously compromised on her acting. We expected better from her since she is such a good actress otherwise.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

Imran Ashraf (Kahin Deep Jalay)

Imran Ashraf recently gave the best performance of his career as Bhola. Ever since Ranjha Ranjha ended, it seems like Imran Ashraf has been trying extra hard to re-introduce himself as the ‘hero’ although he himself has said that he wants to redefine the term hero! That is why he has been concentrating on his overall look more than ever in dramas now and is trying hard to look different than he did in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. While we absolutely loved Imran Ashraf in so many dramas because he is such a daring and brilliant actor, he completely failed to deliver in the play Kahin Deep Jalay. Imran Ashraf is playing a negative character in the play with the utmost bechargi! People are finding his scenes comic because of the expressions and the overall acting. There are others who think that he is trying too hard to walk away from Bhola and hence losing his grip on acting.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

Sanam Jung (Mein Na Janoo)

After hosting morning shows for so many years, Sanam Jung surely needed to do a crash course in acting before taking up a new project. Sanam Jung plays a character which is incredibly annoying in Mein Na Janoo and she has made sure that her portrayal is even more annoying! Sanam Jung has clearly concentrated more on her make-up, hair and dresses than she has on her acting. Even though Saira’s character itself is quiet lame but Sanam Jung has made it even more so by nailing the bechargi and overdoing it even in situations where she is shown as a relatively stronger individual. Even when Saira tells her mother to take a stand in so many scenes or when she is re-assuring her husband of her love, Sanam Jung still does not change her expressions. Even while uttering dialogues which show Saira’s strength, Sanam Jung makes sure she looks like the most victimized person on earth. Sanam Jung’s expressions and her hairstyle are two things which have stayed the same no matter what her character went through! She has sported similar looks and expressions all through the drama which has been enough to put the viewers to sleep.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

Firdous Jamal (Thora Sa Haq)

It is definitely ironic that an actor like Firdous Jamal who is so experienced and has given so many impressive performances is all of a sudden overacting in the play Thora Sa Haq. Firdous Jamal’s character in the play is simple and it could even be quite likable yet his acting has been over-the-top right from the start. His portrayal is a serious case of too many expressions and trying too hard. Why would a seasoned actor like him do something like that? We can only wonder! Watching Firdous Jamal’s scenes in Thora Sa Haq is tormenting because his overacting is simply unbearable. Even some of the younger actors are giving a far better performance than him. Even though the character he is playing in the drama has taken a positive turn but Firdoud Jamal’s performance continues to be as exaggerated as it has been right from the first episode.

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

Parveen (Mera Dil Mera Dushman)

The actor playing Parveen’s role in Mera Dil Mera Dushman seems to be really impressed by the star plus negative characters since she has been giving the most evil and conniving expressions even when there is no need to do so. We are pretty sure she watched all those mother-in-laws in star plus plays who love putting their bahus through hell and then reenacted those performances in this one play. The way her eyes pop out and the manner in which she rolls those eyes is just plain hilarious although her role is definitely not comic. This is what happens when you take the evil side of your character more seriously than necessary!

Worst Performances of Pakistani Actors In Recent Dramas

There is one thing common between all these actors, all of them failed to portray different shades of their characters and only focused on one shade. These performances basically prove just how important it is for actors to understand their characters and not try too hard while portraying them on screen.

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Actors play a pivotal role in ensuring that the characters they are enacting on screen turn out to be convincing and relatable. Pakistani drama industry is full of talented individuals who gave commendable performances this year but there were also some actors who killed the essence of the characters they were translating on screen. These actors turned out to be the weakest links in few plays which were otherwise brilliant in terms of script, acting and even direction. These performances can easily be classified as worst performances because these actors completely failed to do justice to the characters they chose to play on screen.

Here is the list of the worst performances of 2018.

Nadia Khan (Zun Mureed)

Nadia Khan played the role of the main protagonist in the play Zun Mureed. Tabbasum was a strong woman who took a stand for herself when her husband hit her. Tabbasum’s journey was written beautifully by Amna Mufti but Nadia Khan’s acting left a lot to be desired. Everything about the way this character was translated on screen was wrong, from the outlook to the expressions and body language. Nadia Khan did not compromise on her looks at all therefore even when Tabbasum was injured and suffering, her hair were never tied and the make-up was always on point. Apart from this, Nadia Khan’s expressions were never in line with her characters. Tabbasum had her vulnerabilities but she was definitely not a bechari yet Nadia Khan translated this character on screen in such a way that there were times when Tabbasum looked like the victim. The dialogues and the expression just did not match at all. Nadia Khan’s weak acting stood out even more because all the actors were brilliant in their respective roles.

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Agha Mustafa Hassan (Visaal)

Agha Mustafa Hassan played the role of Taimoor in Visaal. His character didn’t have much to offer and he was MIA in most of the drama but even in those handful of episodes that he appeared, his acting was very bland, stiff and unconvincing. Agha Mustafa Hassan has been seen before in dramas like Sang e Marmar and Mohabbat.pk but in Visaal, his acting was particularly bad as if he was having a hard time delivering his dialogues and not to forget, a single expression pasted on his face where no one could tell if he was happy or sad!

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Jia Ali (Pukaar)

Jia Ali played the role of Tashfeen in drama serial Pukaar where she didn’t have much authority or control over things – which is alright. What’s not alright is that Jia Ali had the authority and control over her expressions and acting but in Pukaar, she clearly couldn’t perform to the best of her abilities. Jia Ali is one such actress who takes pride in her beautiful dusky complexion so what came as a shock was that she allowed the makeup artists to lighten up her skin-tone quite a bit which looked unnatural and unflattering as well. Jia Ali tried really hard to emote with her eyes but she failed as her expressions got buried beneath the layers and layers of makeup!

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Sajal Ali (Noor ul Ain)

Sajal Ali is a phenomenal actress, there’s no doubt about it but Noor ul Ain was probably one of her worst performances that the viewers witnessed. Yes, the character of Noor ul Ain was straight-forward, serious and focused but not sure who told Sajal Ali that all these traits can only be portrayed by sporting a poker face throughout the drama. Sajal Ali’s poker face became so annoying that it was hard to understand what her character was feeling or going through. All we could see was a blank look on her face which actually made her acting and character quite dull and boring to look at.

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Aiman Khan (Bedardi)

Aiman Khan is quite capable of giving a decent performance but in drama serial bedardi she ended up making her character just another one of the many characters she played this year. Although, Bia went through many emotions from anger to depression and then ultimately recognizing that she had a bigger role to play in her husband’s life and was strong but all through the drama Aiman Khan’s only focus was to look pretty and to get through every single scene without leaving an impact. Bia went through so much but because of Aiman Khan’s acting, her journey was never as emotional as that of Shafay because Affan Waheed did complete justice to his character but Aiman barely managed to get through every scene. Aiman Khan was part of many dramas this year which is probably why she failed to do justice to this character. Bia ended up looking a lot like Mirha and Shafaq which is why her character lacked the impact which it could’ve had. Aiman Khan’s expressions were always the same throughout and her stiff body language made her portrayal even worse.

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Salma Hassan (Khaani)

Salma Hassan played the role of Khaani’s mother and not only was she a complete miscast in the play but her overacting made her scenes impossible to watch. Salma Hassan’s acting in this play and her entire look was artificial. The fake gestures and expressions and those perfectly blow-dried hair even when her character was going through a mourning period added to the fakeness. Salma Hassan is not an impressive actor otherwise too but was her performance in Khaani was definitely one of her worst performances.

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Furqan Qureshi (Woh Mera Dil Tha)

Furqan Qureshi took wooden acting to a whole a new level in drama serial Woh Mera Dil Tha. He played the role of Arham in the drama, who was an important character in a love triangle. Arham’s character already had not much going for it and Furqan’s uninspired performance made it terribly annoying too. Arham was supposed to be reserved and was also a coward but the way Furqan Qureshi translated it on screen was the worst part since even the weaknesses were confusing to say the least! That is why when he was not in the picture, he was not missed at all! This character came across as an unintelligent one more than anything else thanks to Furqan’s terrible acting. Furqan has and can do better therefore this performance was a huge disappointment.

Worst Performances In Pakistani Dramas 2018

Agha Ali (Mere Bewafa)

Agha Ali‘s role in drama serial Mere Bewafa was anything but positive yet he was somehow convinced that he was a charming hero and therefore gave this character the wrong treatment. Shahmir was a two-timing husband who was incapable of taking responsibility yet Agha Ali failed to highlight these negative traits but tried to add unnecessary charm to his character. Shagufta Ijaz also played a negative character in this drama but because she owned it completely, she was loved by all for her acting even though everyone hated her character. Agha Ali on the other hand concentrated on looking handsome and forgot that he was playing a negative character. Shahmir’s character as a result lost all significance and had absolutely no impact.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

There is no denying the fact that the Pakistani drama industry is blessed with the most talented actors who most often leave the viewers in awe of their performances. However, no one can be at their best all the time, and then there are those actors who are bent on playing stereotypical roles to make things easier for them. While some of these actors are great performers otherwise, there are always those instances when they either overact or fail to breathe life into their characters. In an attempt to be ‘different’ these actors tend to give performances that are simply the worst. A script of course makes a huge difference but sometimes an average written character too can become likable if the actor performing the role gives a good performance. Apart from that, the vision of the character also determines how a certain actor will perform in a drama. Some directors leave things to the actors who cannot cope on their own and others instruct in a way that doesn’t help an actor give their best.

Here is a list of those Pakistani actors who gave the worst performances in 2021:

Zara Sheikh (Raqs e Bismil)

Zara Sheikh made her comeback in 2021 with a project which had a star-studded cast. Raqs-e-Bismil was Zara’s comeback serial, it was extremely popular among the masses and had some of the best actors in the cast. Her comeback was also used to entice the viewers since Zara Sheikh was considered one of the most sought-after leading ladies of her time. However, her performance in Raqs-e-Bismil was an utter disappointment. Her get-up did not go well with Laila’s personality right from the beginning. Her make-up and dresses failed to add the kind of grace and style this character needed in order to truly come alive on screen. Her performance was even worse in every single scene. Even though her co-stars tried their best to show their support by appreciating her performance but that did not change the fact that Zara did not only have blank expressions but she had a difficult time recalling the dialogues. Even though Laila, the character she was playing, was a confident woman, Zara Sheikh always looked clueless! She was definitely not ready to make a comeback and it was actually sad as well as annoying watching someone with such a vast experience struggling on screen. The fact that she did not even invest in a better wardrobe suggested that she did not take this project too seriously. Since the character was so well written, the viewers still appreciated it but Zara Sheikh did everything in her power to give the viewers incentive to forward her scenes. Her performance was simply unbearable. We will never forget those scenes in the hospital where she was fighting for her life with a full face of make-up and the most overdramatic expressions!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Agha Mustafa Hassan (Neeli Zinda Hai & Mere Apne)

Agha Mustafa Hassan is a relatively new actor when compared to the other actors on the list. He is however one of those actors who have bagged many big projects in a short span of time and has worked with the best directors. His short appearance in Ek Thi Marium made the viewers look forward to his upcoming projects but with every project, his performance was more disappointing than ever. If some of the other actors underplay their characters, Agha Mustafa Hassan always goes overboard especially when he has to express anger on screen. His dialogue delivery is forced most of the time which makes it really difficult for the viewer to relate to his characters. This year he was part of two of the most-watched dramas with a star-studded cast. Agha Mustafa Hassan yet again managed to give the most exaggerated expressions in some of the scenes and it was painful watching him deliver his dialogues because they did not come naturally at all! Agha Mustafa puts a little too much effort into his performances, he really needs to stop being so hard on himself and the viewers who are watching him perform.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Armeena Rana Khan (Mohabbatein Chahatein)

Armeena Rana Khan is an ‘experienced’ actress who has worked in films and dramas in Pakistan, she has even worked in international projects but even then she doesn’t have the acting skills required to add the kind of depth and nuances needed to make a character meaningful. The only time Armeena Rana Khan suited a character was when she played the lead in Mohabbat Ab Nahi Hogi perhaps because the character was too plain and simple. Other than that her performances are the same irrespective of the character she is playing. She fails to mold herself to suit the requirements of the characters she is assigned to play therefore her overall approach towards all her portrayals is similar. Armeena Rana played a negative role in the drama serial Mohabbatein Chahatein. This time around she decided to act like a tween which made her character even more annoying to watch. Her entire focus was on looking good and even ‘cute’! Most of her scenes were laughable because it was really difficult to take her performance or character seriously!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Amar Khan (Bad Dua)

Drama serial Bad Dua has gone on-air recently but the initial few episodes were enough to show the kind of overacting Amar Khan has resorted to in this drama. Amar Khan is one of those actors whose expressions tend to get a bit too loud, something that is never suitable for innocent small-sized TV screens. Therefore she really needs to understand when to stop. The character of Abeer definitely has given Amar Khan a lot of margin to perform but it seems the director didn’t really give her any pep-talk and even if he did, she herself forgot where she should’ve drawn the line. Everything about Abeer is so over the top, be it her expressions, her basic styling which doesn’t really suit the dynamic of a university student. It is good that Amar Khan is confident in front of the camera but really has a long way to go before she understands the minute details that the camera easily picks up!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Neelam Munir Khan (Qayamat & Mohabbat Dagh Ki Soorat)

Neelam Munir Khan is one such actor who has the capability of making people feel for a negative character like Ulfat. The way she performed Ulfat went to show that she understands the intricacies related to acting and how she should approach different characters. She has given some very strong performances in the past but it seems ever since she has joined hands with Geo TV Network, she has forgotten about all those intricacies and nuances. Her acting since the very first episode of Qayamat was over the top, her expressions were simply weird and it was quite obvious that she was trying too hard to emote and express, which she doesn’t need to. Neelam Munir has the kind of face and features where she can easily convey the feelings of her characters by relying on subtlety. However, it seems the channel and the drama makers want her to go all out with her expressions, making her look caricaturish. Her performance in Mohabbat Daagh Ki Soorat, the less said the better!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021
Sania Saeed (Dour)

Sania Saeed awed and impressed us with her performance in Raqeeb Se. No one performs better than her when translating multi-dimensional characters on screen. However, in the drama serial Dour, apart from her hairpiece, even her performance comes across as fake! It won’t be wrong to say that Sania Saeed has used too many ‘props’ to bring her character to life. We are sure that an actress who is known for her subtle yet powerful performances didn’t do so on her own discretion and perhaps was asked to follow the instructions of the director. Sania Saeed has changed her entire look and tone for the role in order to bring out the controlling and obsessive nature of her character out but overall the performance and the look is not up to the mark at all.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Urwa Hocane (Amanat)

Urwa Hocane won us over completely last year when she played such a remarkable role in Mushk last year. This year, however, she has been focusing extensively on how good she looks on screen. In the drama serial Amanat, she is playing the ultimate bechari’s role and more than her average performance, her overall look is the reason why she is a part of this list. It is so important for an actor to look the role, yet Urwa Hocane has been seen in whitewashed heavily Kajol-lined eyes with the most inappropriate jewelry in situations which demanded wearing absolutely no make-up. Also, it won’t be wrong to say that the bechari roles do not suit her at all and she is clearly a misfit in the drama. We expected Urwa to make a better choice than to play a part which many of our heroines play just to add to their bank account!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Saboor Aly (Amanat)

Saboor Aly is definitely the only actor who has landed herself a spot in the best as well as in the worst performance list. Saboor Aly knows how to act and there’s no denying the fact. Therefore it goes to show that she is a director’s actor and if she is working with a visionary director, she can definitely do wonders. However, this definitely didn’t turn out to be the case in the drama serial Amanat. Her expressions are absolutely bizarre and although it is understandable that there is absolutely nothing likable about the character of Zooni, her antics were enough to show that. There was no need for Saboor to express herself with such psychotic expressions, which has literally made her performance intolerable. The amount of caterwauling she does is another story!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Maya Ali (Pehli Si Mohabbat)

It has been usually seen that when the actors make a come back on TV screens after years, they tend to forget a thing or two about acting. Maya Ali definitely lived up to this notion and left no stone unturned to prove it. It was unfortunate that the viewers were actually excited to see her in a drama after years because what she gave them was nothing but earaches, eyesores, and long-lasting headaches. Why? Because she broke the record of crying for 36 weeks straight. The kind of crying that Maya Ali did was not just crying but something else which can not be described in words and there actually is no word in the dictionary to explain what she has done. The sad part is, she could’ve cried in a dignified manner but it seems the brief that she got from the director was to make as ugly expressions as she can while crying and she obliged. Just a public service message to those who are thinking of binge-watching Pehli Si Mohabbat – keep the volume as low as possible, don’t even dare to watch this drama with your earphones plugged in, forward Maya Ali’s scenes as much as you can – it will save you hours of your time.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Saqib Sameer (Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3)

Saqib Sameer rose to fame recently when he played the role of Rafiq in Raqeeb Se. He showed his range as an actor and because he has been a theater actor for so long, it was actually exciting to know that he was a part of a mega-project such as Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3. Saqib Sameer alone can not be blamed because this project, on the whole, turned out to be such a disappointment, therefore a supporting character such as Dilawar obviously could not do much to save it. However, what Saqib Sameer can be held responsible for is putting the viewers through those torturous expressions that he gave while mourning the loss of Farhad, who he had just met. All jokes aside, it was actually shocking and disappointing to see an actor of his caliber perform so poorly in this drama where his crying expressions ended up becoming meme-worthy content. His overall acting was also quite over the top and made up, which actually showed that he was trying too hard, too bad!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021
Anmol Baloch (Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi)

Anmol Baloch continues to get leading roles even though her acting skills are as limited as they get! This year she played another leading role in the drama serial Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi and when compared to many other actresses who have played similar roles, Anmol Baloch fell short to a great extent! Just like many other actors on this list, Anmol Baloch has limited expressions and she is also so self-conscious that her acting is never natural. There is more focus on looking good and making the most of the few expressions she feels confident delivering than meeting the requirements of the role. Drama serial Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi was a copy of ARY’s Waada, Saboor Aly however played her role much better than the treatment Anmol gave to it. She was so busy making sure her hair stayed in place to actually focus on her acting.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021
Mikaal Zulfiqar (Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi)

It would be safe to say that Mikaal Zulfiqar is really comfortable playing the flawed husband because that is all he is assigned to do over and over again! Even after playing this role repeatedly, he has never been able to give any of these characters the edge they needed in order to be more interesting. The only time Mikaal Zulfiqar played a relatively different role was in the drama serial Alif Allah Aur Insaan but if his acting was to be judged neutrally in that drama, it was nothing extraordinary. In dramas such as Durr-e-Shehwar and Mein Sitara he was seen in a different look but his performance was monotonous as usual. Mikaal’s dialogue delivery remains the same no matter which drama he is a part of and the viewers are all too familiar with his ‘loser husband’ expressions. Mikaal Zulfiqar is one of those actors who has managed to make it this big because of his good looks. In the drama serial Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi this year Mikaal played yet another familiar role and this was another one of those instances when he failed to add any kind of appeal to his character. If the character was written typically, Mikaal performed it in an even more typical manner. Also, his latest hair color does not look good on him.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021
Areej Mohyudin (Qissa Meherbano Ka)

We have a difficult time understanding why and how did Areej Mohyudin managed to bag such a central character in Qissa Meherbano Ka. The excessive shouting and Areej’s shrill voice make this character simply unbearable. She always goes overboard and has completely failed to highlight different shades of her character. Her performance is really annoying. We honestly feel for Muhammad Ahmed who had to work with her.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Zaib Rehman (Qissa Meherbano Ka)

Zaib Rehman got more attention and recognition than ever when she played Ama Janate’s role in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. This year she played a negative character in Qissa Meherbano Ka, quite opposite to the one she played in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. When compared to many other actresses her age and stature, Zaib Rehman’s performance does not come up to the mark at all. Her dialogue delivery and expressions both are highly disappointing in the serial which makes her scenes really difficult to sit through. It is because of her unconvincing performance that we have a difficult time taking her character seriously.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Nazish Jahangir (Berukhi)

Nazish Jahangir has definitely made a name for herself in a short span of time. However, it can not be said that her choice of roles is always nice and wise. She is playing the role of Maira, a rich spoiled brat who looks down on her relatives especially. The fact that Nazish has played such roles before is another story but the fact that she chooses not to groom herself accordingly is actually a huge setback. It takes away from her performance and makes one wonder why she fails to work on herself. The styling can be easily ignored because she definitely is not the best-dressed actor in her dramas but when she is flaunted to be someone from a very sound background, she should actually work on how to fit in that role seamlessly too. Her dialogue delivery and her Urdu, as well as English accent, are not refined enough and the funny part is, despite trying, she can not hide it.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Iffat Omar (Berukhi)

Iffat Omar really needs to snap out of her fixation for negative and evil roles. She has done far too many of those characters and sadly, it makes us miss seeing her as Laila from Aangan. Iffat Omar always does negative roles and she is currently seen in two dramas; Berukhi as well as Dour and in both dramas, she is playing a negative character who has nothing nice to say at all. Iffat Omar is also one of those actors who are so self-absorbed to actually understand that their OTT expressions are a bit too much to handle for the audience. It is good to know that an actor is comfortable in front of the camera but at times, subtlety is the key, which is definitely missing from Iffat Omar’s keyring!

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021
Umair Rafiq (Berukhi)

Umair Rafiq is a newcomer who is playing one of the most important supporting characters in the drama serial Berukhi. While we absolutely love how this character has been penned down, Umair Rafiq’s performance leaves a lot to be desired. He is definitely fortunate that he was chosen to play this role but he is a complete misfit. He is clearly someone who is not comfortable facing the camera, most of the times he looks more scared than anything else. Also, in so many scenes he is emotionless. Apart from this, his lenses serve as a major distraction. Umair Rafiq also has difficulty delivering his dialogues in a flow. We understand that he is new in the industry but the producers and directors really should think twice before casting someone with minimal acting skills in such an important role.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Ali Tahir (Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay & Phaans)

Ali Tahir is another experienced actor in the Pakistani drama industry. He is seen in dramas every now and then but it seems he has certain rough patches where no matter what happens, he finds it hard to perform. His acting can be quite caricaturish and he showed just exactly that in both Phaans and Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay. At times it seems Ali Tahir can only sport a single expression and no matter what the situation is, he will be frozen in the same expression. This is exactly why it has taken away from the situation of his character in Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, where instead of feeling sad for a father who lost his only daughter, you end up giggling because of his funny expressions.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Usman Mukhtar (Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay)

Usman Mukhtar has what it takes to make it to the best performance lists of Reviewit.pk but he chooses to stay in the worst performance list. This is the second time he has scored a spot on this list; last year it was for Sabaat and this year, it is for Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay. It is understandable that playing the character of Aswad was challenging, but Usman Mukhtar should not have accepted the challenge because it was not such a small bet among the friends, it was actually a huge project which was going to be seen everywhere Pakistani dramas are watched. His expressions at times are so robotic and funny that it actually takes away from the impact of the situation. Aswad is not even an ideal character, to begin with, on top of it to perform it poorly was not what was required.

Worst Performances By Pakistani Actors In 2021

Babar Ali (Amanat)

Babar Ali has been acting for decades now. He has become a lot more active on Pakistani TV screens and is seen every now and then in different dramas. Babar Ali still has the aura to give his characters a personality and a look of its own. Babar Ali is definitely not doing well in terms of choosing his projects because he was seen in a ridiculous character in Zebaish, an equally ridiculous character in Tarap, and this year, it’s Amanat. Although everyone in Amanat is struggling because the project, on the whole, is just so bad but for someone with Babar Ali’s experience in acting and in front of the camera, this kind of performance was definitely not expected. His expressions are so robotic that it makes you laugh. If this would’ve been a list dedicated to comic roles, Babar Ali would’ve landed himself a top spot.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

0

Many Pakistani dramas nowadays and some of the recent past have had parents who were a perfect example of bad parenting. The good thing is that in most of these dramas they were shown as those parents whose wrong choices destroyed their children’s life. Although these ‘children’ were of course grown adults who could have made their own choice, these parents played an important role in keeping them from doing so. It is good that these dramas in a way showed the difference between good and bad parenting.

When showing such scenarios, our writers also follow certain patterns. For example, a bad parent is always the dominant one. Whether it is the mother or the father who is making all the wrong choices, the other one is shown completely helpless! This is what enables the dominant and bad parents to take over and take control. This also goes to show just how important it is for both the parents to have an equal say.

Here is a list of the worst parents from recent Pakistani dramas.

Fareed (Sabaat)

Fareed from Sabaat is the kind of father who is making the viewers furious because of his parenting style. He does not just have double standards as far as his children are concerned but is also the one responsible for turning his daughter into a monster. His sole purpose in life is pleasing his spoiled daughter and for that, he even made his son’s life hell. Fareed is easily manipulated by Miraal, he makes the most unfair decisions and is constantly shown insulting his wife.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Imtiaz (Kashf)

Kashf’s father Imtiaz was introduced as a man who literally hated his daughter because he always wanted a son. He was also shown as a lazy and irresponsible person who was incapable of earning a living or doing a proper job. Now that Kashf’s ‘business’ has prospered, he is getting more greedy with every passing episode. For him, money comes before everything else. He does not care about his daughters’ feelings and is now using Kashf for his own ends. He doesn’t have a single positive trait in him.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Mansoora (Pyar Ke Sadqay)

Mansoora from Pyar Ke Sadqay is the perfect example of bad parenting. Her children are not her priority. She is only concerned about Sarwar, she wants to make sure that her husband does not leave her. For that she let Sarwar beat Abdullah and walk all over him. His only daughter Washma left the house so that she can be away from Sarwar but even that did not change her thinking. Her reasons for being such an irresponsible mother are completely different from the other parents on the list. She loves her husband more than she loves her children which makes her the worst parent we have seen in Pakistani dramas lately.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Mir Farooq Zaman (Yeh Dil Mera)

Mir Farooq Zaman was introduced in Yeh Dil Mera as an overprotective father but he turned out to be a murderer. He was responsible for his daughter Ana’s mental issues yet he acted as if he was the most caring parent. A controlling and evil man, Farooq Zaman was seemingly the best parent but actually he had done more damage to his daughter at such an early stage of her life that her entire life was defined by it. He fooled Ana all his life and made her think that he was the perfect father which made the situation even worse for the poor girl towards the end.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Ayeza’s Father (Bikhray Moti)

Ayeza’s father in Bikhray Moti is a lot like Kashf’s father and Waseem Abbas is playing both these characters. He is not willing to take any responsibility for his daughter. He is inhumane and beats his wife and daughter. He is the reason why his older daughter could not take refuge in the house and the biggest hurdle in Ayeza’s way at the moment. A negative character like no other, he is everything a father shouldn’t be.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Zaitoon (Ghalati)

Zaitoon from Ghalati was an egoistic, selfish, greedy, manipulative mother who made so many wrong decisions that ruined the life of her children. This wasn’t the first time that Saba Hameed played such a character. If it weren’t for her, her son Saad could have had a happy life. When it came to playing mind games, no one could beat this woman!

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Salma (Ruswai)

Salma from Ruswai was a negative character right from the beginning. She made sure that she got exactly what she wanted by hook or crook. She always gave her son and daughter the worst advice. In the end, she got what she deserved and learned that she shouldn’t have tried so hard to run her children’s life according to her wishes. Salma always thought she knew best what their children wanted from life and never respected their choices.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Mushk’s Father (Raaz-e-Ulfat)

Mushk’s father from Raaz-e-Ulfat is another unreasonable parent with such strict rules that his daughters feel suffocated. Through this drama, the writer has perhaps tried to show how important it is for parents to allow their children to enjoy small things in life otherwise they turn rebellious. He is another father who thinks he does not need to respect his daughters or wife. Everyone in the house is scared of him and he does not know how to love, only how to command.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Faraz (Tera Ghum aur Hum)

Faraz is another rich father from Tera Ghum aur Hum who only has one son yet he wants to mold his life according to his terms and conditions. A highly rigid father and another one of those husbands who dominate their wives by threatening them of divorce. The main issue in this drama too was marriage, he did not want his son Ali to marry a girl who was not worthy of her. He has been shown as a man who lets his anger take over him.

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Rabia (Thora Sa Haq)

Out of all the mothers we have seen in recent Pakistani dramas Rabia from Thora Sa Haq gave the most unreasonable advice to her only daughter than any other. She tries throughout to control her only daughter Hareem and just like all the other parents in this list, she does not let her make decisions on her own. Rabia was a villainous character who got the end she deserved!

Worst Parents In Recent Pakistani Dramas

Which one of these parents do you think were the worst? Do add more names to the list.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Parents in Pakistani dramas often play a major role in the lives of the main protagonists. They can easily be termed as few of the most important supporting characters in dramas. Nowadays, many of these parents are the ones who go overboard and tend to control their children’s lives more than necessary. Usually, the mothers in particular are shown as negative characters who are anything but role models for their children. There are also those parents who have been seen making the worst choices for their children. This year there were so many such parents shown in dramas but some of them definitely took the lead since their negativity outweighed everything else and also defined the journey of the leading characters.

Here is a list of the worst parents from 2021 Pakistani dramas:

Rubina (Wafa Be Mol)

Rubina is another one of those women who made her children’s life a living hell but being the kind of role model which no parent should be. Right from the first episode, her sole purpose in life was to get what she wanted. She lied, stole, and did everything in her power. She also made her daughters follow in her footsteps and they ended up making poor choices. Right till the end, Rubina had absolutely no remorse and she did not realize that her decisions had ruined her children’s lives. The viewers watched her plotting and planning for more than 30 weeks but in the end, only one scene was dedicated to showing just how remorseful she was. She definitely tops the worst parents list because she banked on manipulation more than love while dealing even with her own children.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Faiz Ullah (Pehli Si Mohabbat)

Faiz Ullah from Pehli Si Mohabbat definitely passes as a parent who made many wrong decisions and if it weren’t for him Rakhshi could have had an easier, happier life. He was so self-absorbed that he could not see how his decisions were impacting his daughter. He represented all those parents who think that their children owe them their lives, their happiness because they raised them and ‘loved’ them for all these years! His expectations from Rakhshi and his behavior towards her made him an example of bad parenting. Also, he married Nargis out of love and turned the entire mohalla against him yet he did not understand why Rakhshi would want to get married to someone she loved. In the beginning, Faiz Ullah’s character was quite balanced but his selfishness was always a prominent part of his personality.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

He never took Rakhshi into confidence before getting married to Nargis or bringing her home. He expected her to ‘adjust’ to these changes without giving any prior warning. All through the drama, he made every single drastic decision on his own. Nargis’ continuous reality checks always fell on deaf ears and his explanations just went to show that he felt his actions were justified. With every passing episode, this character became even more unreasonable.

Shiza’s Father (Azmaish)

Shiza and Samreen’s father in Azmaish was for the longest time an enabler just like some of the other parents on this list. He turned his second wife into his grown-up daughters’ babysitter and it was only when she died that she realized her worth. This was such a badly etched-out character that even though he made some good choices in between, he could never make a difference in a good way in his daughters’ lives. When his wife was alive he constantly reminded her of how fortunate she was to have him since he had taken care of her daughter as his own. His thankless nature showed in his daughters’ attitude and he was so foolish that he fell for every single lie told to him for the longest time. Although he thought that he was doing everything right and raising his daughters the way they should be raised, he was actually doing more harm than good!

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Rakhshanda (Aulaad)

While on the one hand, Aulaad has the best parents playing the lead in the drama, we are also got to see a mother such as Rakhshanda in the drama. She is one of those typical clever female characters who constantly plot and plan. She made sure that her daughter did everything the way she deemed fit and did not let her make her own decisions. She never had a single piece of good advice to give to her daughter and was always so sure that she knew best! In the end, the viewers will get to see a befitting ending to this character but she is definitely a mother who destroyed her daughter’s life single-handedly.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Nazo’s Mother (Safar Tamam Hua)

Nazo’s mother in Safar Tamam Hua was a careless and selfish parent who never once thought about her daughter. Her presence in Nazo’s life never contributed to her upbringing in a positive manner. She never even gave sane advice to her daughter let alone do something practically positive for her. Nazo was a young woman who was capable of being a better person but she never found the kind of role model in her mother to make her a responsible adult. On the other hand, her mother played a major role in making her take the worst decisions more than once. In the end, however, Nazo learned a few things herself and made the right decisions. Aisha Gul definitely made this character more engaging and brought out the negativity in it.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Usman’s Parents (Mujhe Vida Kar)

Sultana and her husband were a match made in hell! Their sole purpose in life was to control their sons, make their life as miserable as possible, judge their daughters-in-law constantly, and spoil their daughter! These parents were biased, insensitive and the most selfish ones. For the first time perhaps the husband was just as much of a planner as the wife! Usually, the fathers are shown as balanced individuals but that was definitely not the case here. Unlike some of the other parents on this list, this pair did not even try to hide their ill feelings for their sons and their wives. They lived in the moment and did not think much about how their actions might affect their relationship with their sons in the future. They also had shocking double standards when it comes to their children. In the last episode, they showed remorse and got punished for everything they did but it was not too gratifying.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Fareeda (Aakhir Kab Tak)

Fareeda is the main lead’s daadi in the drama serial Aakhir Kab Tak who once ruled the house but has now been dominated by her grandchildren and daughter-in-law. She always manipulated her son’s love for her and was so insecure that she never even ‘allowed’ his son to love his own daughters. This woman is full of malice and cannot even maintain a balance between her own children. Even though this character definitely passes as a worse parent but Gul-e-Rana’s performance has been so amusing that we actually enjoyed watching her antics!

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Neelofer (Aakhir Kab Tak)

Neelofer is Saim’s mother in Aakhir Kab Tak, who is a balanced and positive individual. In the beginning, Neelofer also came across as an educated woman with a big heart but as the story progressed she turned into one of those stubborn, unreasonable, and insecure mothers who were just not willing to accept what her son wanted. Neelofer’s character actually confused the viewers more than once since it was difficult to accept this side of her character. She does not even listen to her own daughter or pay attention to what she is uncomfortable with. She is yet another parent on this list who thinks she knows better!

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Arfah (Banno)

Arfah is the typical negative character in the drama serial Banno who happens to be one of the main lead’s mothers. She is controlling and bossy, she treats her husband’s niece who is an orphan in the worst way possible. There isn’t a single positive trait in her personality. Even though she claims to love her only daughter Sania, the decisions that she makes for her are anything but wise. Like most of the parents on this list, she lacks foresight and is always giving her daughter the wrong advice. Unlike some of the other children who ended up being negative and toxic like their parents, Sania is a nice girl who does not believe everything her mother tells her. Rabia Noreen is playing this character and we do get the feeling that she was probably asked by the producers to follow Nand’s lead! Since that negative character was the main attraction of the show.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Riffat (Banno)

Drama serial Banno doesn’t just have one parent who falls in the worse category but it has two such mothers who think they know better! Even though Riffat looks like an educated woman who would have a life but that is certainly not the case. She is another typical insecure mother who does not want her son to be happily married to someone who she believes is not the right choice for him! She wants him to get married to her niece even though she knows that he does not even like her. Riffat’s favorite hobbies include trying to make her daughter-in-law’s life hell and making plans to break this marriage! This character has been played by Seemi Pasha who is one of the most elegant older actresses in the industry. We wonder why she opted to play such a run-of-the-mill character who doesn’t have a lot to offer.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Meherbano (Neeli Zinda Hai)

This is one such character that has failed to show any improvement or make amends in Neeli Zinda Hai. She was shown to be a toxic mother-in-law who not only resented Sumbul, her daughter in law but also her granddaughter. However, quite convectively she lost the plot and failed to realize that she has now become a toxic mother too. She is not only a bad mother but an unfair and unjust one at that because of the way she does the disparity between her children. She is very much aware of the needs and wants of her daughter, but completely fails to acknowledge the difficulties her son Amaan is faced with, only because he takes a stand for his wife and daughter and doesn’t believe in whatever his mother tells him. She even got involved in the black magic in order to get rid of her daughter-in-law, a definitive evil character for sure.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Dilnasheen’s Mother (Fitoor)

Dilnasheen’t mother was not only annoying but the regressive mentality that she had was enough to drive anyone crazy. She happens to be such a mother who expected Dilnasheen to be happy with the man twice her age, and put up with his abuses and slaps only because he was filthy rich. This is how blunt and straightforward she was. She was always an emotionally unavailable mother and it is sad that in a drama as long as Fitoor, this character and her past traumas were not addressed, because this happens to be the only reason behind the way she mistreated Dilnasheen. It won’t be wrong to say that this was one such motherly character that actually hated her daughter. She was strict for no reason and made sure to suppress every single feeling and emotion that Dilnasheen felt like sharing with her.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Mehreen’s Grandmother (Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay)

In Pakistani dramas, we usually get to see negative and bizarre parents but lately, there have been some grandmothers giving such parents a run for their money. One such grandmother happens to be the character from Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay. Nani has always taunted Mehreen for the things she was never responsible for. Nani continues to bring up Mehreen’s deceased father’s past in front of her as if she still hasn’t settled a score with her. Although she has always been in such a position where she made sure that her children followed her orders – such as getting Rabia married and convincing her to ignore Mehreen; who was at a very tender age and going through a lot already. Nani didn’t even think for a second about what Mehreen must feel after losing her father and then letting go of her mother who should’ve been the security blanket for her. Her character has nothing to say or contribute to the story and the moment she speaks, it is a known fact that she is going to say something bitter! Shamim Hilali has definitely performed this character convincingly but it is sad that it has nothing good to offer.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Abba Miyan (Qissa Meherbano Ka)

Abba Miyan had a chance of being a very nice parent in Neeli Zinda Hai but then again, Neeli deprived him of that position and threw a vase on his head; rattling him completely. This character has been played by Mohammad Ahmed and Abba Miyan is now showing its adverse effects by setting an example of how to be a bad and emotionally unavailable parent. Abba Miyan not only ruined his son’s life but tried to keep him bound in a relationship that was toxic with his wife literally cheating on him. After the son left, out of his emotionality, he ruined Meherbano’s life due to an idiotic kasam that he will not get Meherbano married anywhere else and she will stay wedded to Murad her whole life. Now that Meherbano has gone to Murad’s place, Abba Miyan has miraculously realized that she is happy and settled. It doesn’t really add up seeing a man of Abba Miyan’s age not using his brains, wisdom, and experience to analyze the situation better.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Murad’s Mother (Qissa Meherbano Ka)

Murad’s mother has absolutely nothing to do in life, hence the negativity and verbal diarrhea that she is suffering from. She is in so much shock of her daughter’s death that she has failed to realize that she is ruining her son’s life too. Also, the daughter that she has died with has left behind a son, whom she should love and cherish. The sad part is, she is so emotionally aloof and cold that she literally resents her grandson. She has now found a new hobby in her life which is making Meherbano’s life miserable. As if she hasn’t trained her loser son enough that she herself wants to do the honors!

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Zahida (Mohlat)

Zahida was another emotionally aloof and unfair mother who loved her two elder daughters but hated the youngest only because she blamed Navera for her husband’s second marriage. Zahida should’ve put the entire blame on her husband’s sister who forced him to re-marry only to have a son. Zahida spent her entire life resenting Navera and treating her like a househelp. She was lucky that Navera turned out to be a good human being because as a mother, she didn’t leave any stone unturned in ruining her personality and turning her into a selfish person like Maham. The two sisters Rida and Navera, who didn’t get much of Zahida’s attention turned out to be fine, the only one who had the undivided attention of Zahida i-e Maham was simply toxic – proving the kind of mother she was!

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Mrs. Ehtasham (Dour)

Mrs. Ehtasham aka Surraya is another toxic mother who has literally lost control over her son Aban and only because he has met an accident, she allows him to rule her over. Surraya has baggage of her own but unfortunately, she has transferred all the negative traits in her son and continues to enable him. Surraya has failed to realize that she is not helping Aban’s situation and just because he emotionally blackmails her, she gives in. The son of Surraya’s sister Romaan truly respects Aban and also Surraya but she takes it for granted and makes sure to make his life miserable. Everything that Surraya is facing in her life is karma hitting back at her but she still believes that things are still under her control. She is about to fall flat on her face and it is much needed!

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Nafisa (Ishq Hai)

Although there wasn’t much sense or logic put in while making the drama serial Ishq Hai but Nafisa’s character took the cake for being a ridiculous and non-sensical parent right from the beginning. She literally decided to dictate to her fully grown, financially and emotionally independent, and stable son about the most important decision of his life i-e marriage. Nafisa wanted Shahzaib to get married to her niece Nimra and just because he refused to do so, she turned into a maleficent who wanted to ruin Shahzaib’s life every chance she got. She disowned him and after his marriage to Isra, decided to put up an act of being a good and accepting mother but continued with her plans of drifting them apart behind Shahzaib’s back. It must’ve been so tedious to be this deceptive but Nafisa showed she was a master of deception.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Mehmood (Mere Apne)

There is no denying the fact that if Waseem Abbas had not played this character so perfectly, this drama would’ve lost its charm. The entire weight of the drama was on his shoulders because Mehmood was the trouble-maker, the problematic one who fished for negatives in every single situation. Waseem Abbas’s antics and acting were really enjoyable but what wasn’t enjoyable was Mehmood’s character. He was just one person who couldn’t see anyone happy, be it his wife, his son, his daughter, or his wife’s family. He continued to make everyone’s life miserable only because he was a selfish person. He even taught the same lessons to his son who also made sure to ruin his marital life. Although the drama did end on a positive note with everyone changing and realizing their mistakes it still doesn’t take away from the fact that for the most part, Mehmood was simply a bad father.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Nazia (Berukhi)

Nazia is obsessed with her daughters, but the sad part is, her obsession is not really healthy because Nazia on her own has no sensibilities and moral compass. She thinks she is right and because she herself is so materialistic, she has taught the same lessons to her eldest daughter too. The youngest daughter is lucky that she takes after her father because if it wasn’t for him, she would’ve turned out exactly like her elder sister. Nazia is manipulative too and believes in lying continuously to save herself from sticky situations – definitely not the kind of morals or lessons that you should be normalizing in front of your children. Another annoying aspect of this character is the way Iffat Omar has acted it out, it is definitely not a pleasant sight to see.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

Irtiza’s Step Mother (Berukhi)

Irtiza’s stepmother has proved why she is a stepmother. She has emotional baggage and because she failed to accept and move on like an adult, she has harbored hatred in her heart for Irtiza. So much so that she wants to ruin his life by getting him married to the girl who she thinks is not a perfect match for him. She continues to put up an act in front of Irtiza’s father but in reality, it is all a lie. She hasn’t forgiven Irtiza for something he was never really responsible for. Her husband married Irtiza’s mother for the sake of a child and to date, she feels hatred every time she looks at Irtiza because she is reminded of what her husband did and how he deprived her of her right of being his only wife. Although it is just a character such kinds of roles does not suit the actor of Saba Hameed’s stature.

Worst Parents From 2021 Pakistani Dramas

This completes the list of worst parents seen in Pakistani dramas this year. Which one of these do you think happens to be the worst parents. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2022

Every year there are dramas the viewers have huge expectations from because they are promoted as the next big thing. Not only this, some of the names attached to these dramas have a great deal of credibility as well. Yet, even such dramas fail to deliver because many times commercialism takes over everything else. It is a proven fact by now that there are certain done-to-death scenarios and some tactics which the production houses use to garner ratings. The reason for this is obvious; writing and executing dramas such as Parizaad, which get both ratings and critical acclaim, takes time and tons of effort.

Since the channels have to continue airing dramas every single day of the week in different time slots, they are not willing to invest all that in every single project. That is why they use shortcuts. These shortcuts usually include a star cast, great visuals, best get-ups, sensationalizing serious issues, creating controversy, showing women as victims, toxic male characters, and of course promoting these dramas to the maximum. The most important aspect missing from such dramas is quality content which is definitely the king! Such dramas can easily be termed as the worst even when they get the required rating and attention, which is the ultimate goal.

Here is a list of the worst dramas of 2021:

The list is in Alphabetical order.

Badzaat

Writer: Misbah Nosheen
Director: Siraj ul Haq
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Har Pal Geo
Cast: Urwa Hocane, Imran Ashraf, Ali Abbas, Danial Afzal Khan, Zoya Nasir, Saba Faisal, Mehmood Aslam, Nida Mumtaz, Zainab Qayyum and others.

If there is one label that can describe Badzaat in simple words, it would be ‘toxicity personified’. From rape to domestic abuse to blackmail to drugs to gun violence, there was nothing that was not included in the drama serial Badzaat. It was unfortunate that the fans who loved the pairing of Urwa Hocane & Imran Ashraf in Mushk were left disappointed when they got to see Badzaat. The writer did her best to give drama viewers a hero in the form of Wali’s character but the baggage that he came with was overbearing, taking it away from his character which was supposedly the focal point of the entire story.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2022

It just did not end there because Bia’s self-inflicted misery only because she did not have a voice was quite frustrating to see. Daniyal kept winning against Bia & Wali every step of the way but in the end, he didn’t even pay the price for the atrocities that he committed. It was also quite unfortunate that no one ever found out how Daniyal raped Bia because Bia chose to stay silent till the end. Badzaat’s production value was grand just like any other Geo drama but sadly, the storyline, characters & situations were full of cringe & toxicity that easily make it one of the worst dramas of 2022.

Badshah Begum

Writer: Saji Gul
Director: Khizer Idrees
Producer: MD Productions
Channel: Hum TV
Cast: Zara Noor Abbas, Farhan Saeed, Ali Rehman Khan, Yasir Hussain, Shahzad Nawaz, Komal Meer, Saman Ansari, Hamza Sohail, Abul Hassan, and others.

Badshah Begum is an opportunity wasted in a nutshell. The writer Saji Gul definitely came up with a fresh & unique idea but the essence of it was most certainly lost during its execution. Khizer Idrees impressed the drama viewers with his directorial debut Laapata but it seems he failed to understand that every script requires a different treatment. While watching Badshah Begum, it can easily be seen that the director’s focus was purely on the visuals & he couldn’t care less whether the story was making sense or not. Right from the beginning, the way the concept of Badshah Begum & every tiny detail surrounding this title was elaborated, it attracted a lot of criticism because none of it actually made sense. Some of the actors did the best they could to salvage this drama but on the whole, it failed to keep the audience hooked. There have been far too many issues with the execution as well as the story has fallen flat in many instances.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2022

Zara Noor Abbas has tried her best but she has not been able to create the aura suiting the title of Badshah Begum. There have been so many situations that defied logic & basic common sense in Badshah Begum & even if it’s a drama, there has to be a tiny fraction of realism or relatability to it to keep the viewers engaged. Badshah Begum is the kind of drama that has tested the patience of the viewers every step of the way, making it suitable for this list.

Ishq e Laa

Writer: Qaisera Hayat
Director: Amin Iqbal
Producer: Momina Duraid
Channel: Hum TV
Cast: Sajal Aly, Azaan Sami Khan, Yumna Zaidi, Arsalan Asad Butt, Adnan Samad Khan, Uzma Hassan, Sohail Sameer, Seemi Raheel, Ahmed Taha Ghani, Laila Wasti, Usman Peerzada, Ghazla Kaif and others.

Ishq e Laa had a star-studded cast, the visuals were impressive and even the idea behind the script was one that could have been executed in an appealing manner. Unfortunately, the characterizations proved to be the biggest disappointment, Azaan Sami Khan’s performance literally tested the patience of the viewers and for the most part, the drama was slow, sad, repetitive, and poorly edited. There was a lack of clarity therefore we were left wondering about a lot of things by the end of every single episode. Shanaya’s bold stance was not backed by common sense at times, Azka cried a little too much for someone who was supposed to be ‘strong’, and Azlan’s overall impression was that of a lost soul for the most part even when he took a turn for the better it had little impact.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2022The ‘religious element’ of the drama was not properly inculcated into the script. Among many other things, the biggest shortcoming of Ishq e Laa was its superficial script and the over-emphasis on visuals. The visuals were stunning but there were a lot of times when they did not go well with the situations that were being shown. Ishq e Laa can easily be termed as a star-studded disaster. It was not the least bit entertaining; it was difficult to sit through and lacked basic logic. The production house clearly relied more on visuals and star power than the actual content and execution of the drama which is obviously never enough!

Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi

Writer: Radain Shah
Director: Ahmed Bhatti
Producer: iDream Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Danish Taimoor, Dur-e-Fishan, Noman Aijaz, Hammad Shoaib,Shahood Alvi, Laila Wasti, Atiqa Odho, Laiba Khan, Tipu Shareef, Zainab Qayyum, Ayesha Toor, Emad Butt, Shehzeen Rahat.

Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi is the most watched drama this year which is extremely unfortunate since this is also one of those dramas which deserves the top slot on the worst dramas list. It is still on air but we are pretty sure it deserves to be on this list. The initial episodes of Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi made the intentions of the makers quite clear. They wanted to show the worst toxicity we witnessed on-screen this year in the most visually stunning manner. The over-emphasis on visuals starting from Shamsher’s grand life to the makeovers, which were always in place even on a routine day, was used to entice the viewers. The caked concealers and the overuse of filters were used to make the characters look as ‘beautiful’ as possible in order to camouflage the ugliness of the content, right from the get-go. The story is as clichéd as it gets – a spoiled rich brat falling for a simple bechari from a middle-class family. Some of the dialogues about daughters in the beginning episodes were also cringe-worthy. Danish Taimoor plays yet another rich toxic character in the drama because he has the wardrobe and experience for it. Durr-e-Fishan does not have to do much in order to play Mehak because she barely has any dialogues!

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2022

Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi glorified abuse and toxic masculinity for 18 weeks and then Shamsher’s character underwent a sudden transformation! The viewers are expected to forget all the toxicity that was shown in the name of love on-screen and feel for Shamsher now! Apart from the problematic storyline, Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi has not even been an engaging drama because the characters are beyond done-to-death. Experienced and iconic actors such as Noman Ijaz and Atiqa Odho have also been wasted in roles that offer the bare minimum. Even though we did not have high hopes for this drama after watching the promos before it aired, we expected better from the writer Radain Shah. It is unfortunate that such a brilliant writer chose to pen down such a script.

Paristan

Writer: Samra Bukhari
Director: Ali Hassan
Producer: MD Productions
Channel: Hum TV
Cast: Arsalan Naseer, Aymen Saleem, Merub Ali, Naveen Waqar, Ali Safina, Javeria Saud, Saife Hassan, Junaid Jamshed, Mira Sethi, and others.

The moment Paristan was announced as a Ramzan special drama for this year, it was quite obvious that the channel & production house was relying a lot on the popularity that both Aymen Saleem & Arsalan Naseer got as debut actors as well as a pair in last year’s Ramzan special drama Chupke Chupke. However, it was unfortunate that despite having a star on-screen couple that was loved by so many, the project that was designed for them was a massive fail & mindless in the literal sense. Ramzan special dramas are known for providing situational comedy as well as some light-hearted entertainment, however, Paristan was anything but that.Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2022

The writer of Paristan, Samra Bukhari thought throwing in a stereotypical Punjabi character, a disinterested husband, two young actors, and a bitter unmarried mature woman alongside the famous pair of Aymen & Arsalan was enough to bring a hit drama serial but she was sadly mistaken. Paristan was anything but funny & not only that, the situations that were presented one after another made the audience doubt their sanity. Paristan was the kind of drama that the viewers could watch with a poker face, with full confidence that nothing on their TV screens would make them laugh. Although the die-heart fans of Aymen & Arsalan did their best to hype up the drama, overall, it wasn’t well-received by the Ramzan audience in general. By the time the drama ended, it became obvious that the production house was just trying to recover the cost that went into producing this drama, hence the influx of advertisements that were not only frustrating to watch but also took away a lot from the drama that did not have much to offer anyway.

Pyar Deewangi Hai

Writer: Misbah Ali Syed
Director: Aabis Raza
Producer: Big Bang Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Neelam Muneer, Sami Khan, Shuja Asad, Saba Faisal, Javed Shaikh, Hasan Niazi, Urooj Fatima, Gul-e-Rana, Nida Khan, Sabahat Bukhari,Aliya Ali.

Can the writers please stop writing scripts about deewane aashiqs? We have seen too many of such characters on-screen and honestly, these characters come across as people in need of dire help. Attributes that can easily pass as mental disorders are presented as a normal occurrence in such dramas. Rabi’s deewangi and Dawood’s strange stalking behavior have been presented as some form of love in the drama. Neelam Munir’s acting makes you cringe, Shuja Asad’s performance leaves a lot to be desired and even an ace actor such as Sami Khan is a complete misfit as Dawood. It is unfortunate that an actor of his caliber has to settle for such roles.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2022Pyar Deewangi Hai is the usual plot that has been used by drama makers thousands of times before too but the latest episode took crazy to a whole new level! It went to show the desperation of the makers to grab the viewers’ attention. The ironic bit is that Mateen will not be missed because Shuja Asad’s acting was so unimpressive. This drama shows that a bad script can bring out the worst even in the best of performers therefore we don’t really blame him because even Neelam Munir and Sami Khan are struggling to look and act natural. This drama has nothing going for it and is definitely the absolute worst.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2020 (Updated)

Pakistani drama industry is unlocking new levels of success, popularity, and achievements with each passing year. This is the reason more, and more dramas are being produced, and almost all kinds of issues and stories are being explored and brought to the table in a hope that they’d entertain as well as create awareness among those who choose to watch these dramas. Pakistani drama viewers have become quite vocal about the kind of content they like and things they do not really enjoy watching much.

Just like every other year, a lot of dramas were produced. Where some dramas did really well because of the appealing storyline and great characterizations, there came along such dramas that did not really have much to offer. A lot of factors contribute to making any drama worst, such as weak storyline and direction, poor characters, and over-the-top acting. This year, Pakistani drama buffs came across a lot of such dramas that were worst and had all those flavors in them that contributed towards their failure. Some dramas ended up becoming a laughing stock and others, despite having viewership failed to actually show substantial content.

Here is a list of Worst Pakistani dramas of 2020:

[lwptoc]

Jhooti

Writer: Ali Moeen
Director: Syed Ramish Rizvi
Producer: iDreams Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Main Cast: Iqra Aziz, Ahmed Ali Butt, Asma Abbas, Madiha Rizvi, Yasir Hussain, Paras Masroor, Tauqeer Nasir, Mariyam Nafees.

When Iqra Aziz announced her next project after Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, the viewers had a reason to be excited since she played her role so well in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, and her fan following multiplied as a result of that. Ahmed Ali Butt was also going to be a part of a prime-time drama serial for the first time therefore that was another reason why Jhooti was one of the most awaited plays this year. This was also going to be Iqra and Yasir’s first drama together. The title of the play wasn’t promising but the interviews of the cast suggested that this drama might highlight a social issue. Jhooti however proved to be another one of those dramas that bank heavily on the negativity of the main protagonist. Not only this, right from the get-go the situations that were shown in Jhooti were highly unconvincing. It was presented and written like a sitcom but it was supposed to be a serious drama.

Jhooti also came under severe criticism when the main protagonist Nirma lied about being beaten by her husband in order to get a divorce. The viewers rightly found this disturbing because the writer made a mockery of something as serious as domestic abuse. The ending of this drama was just as ridiculous as the basic storyline and the script. This ending was just as typical and run-of-the-mill as the drama itself. This drama was as shallow, pointless, and boring as its title!

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2020 (Updated)

Ishiqiya

Writer: Mohsin Ali Shah
Director: Badar Mehmood
Producer: Big Bang Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Main Cast: Feroze Khan, Hania Aamir, Ramsha Khan, Gohar Rasheed, Shabbir Jan, Seemi Pasha.

Ishqiya was the perfect example of the fact that even a star-studded cast cannot save a poorly scripted drama. This was another drama this year that was neither entertaining nor logical. It had some of the most absurd characters and the treatment given to the script made it even more absurd. Those of us who watched this drama are still haunted by the OST since it was overused to the maximum so that the scenes could be stretched. Hamna, the character played by Ramsha Khan has to be the most wooden and weird character we saw in Pakistani dramas this year.

Hania Aamir’s character in the drama could have been appealing if Romaissa wouldn’t have been shown as a strange mix of bubbly but terribly dumb in some ways! Most of the characters had no idea what the other person was going through as if they were living in their own bubble. So much so that even when Hamna looked like she was going through hell, Romaissa pretended like she couldn’t see what her sister was going through. Hamza’s revenge plan was just as ridiculous as the rest of the drama and only the die-hard Feroze Khan fans would have been able to sit through the absurdity!

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2020 (Updated)

Jo Tu Chahay

Writer: Qaisra Hayat
Director: Ilyas Kashmiri
Producer: MD Productions
Channel: Hum TV
Main Cast: Imran Abbas, Alizeh Shah, Zarnish Khan, Ahmed Taha, Nargis Rasheed, Areej Mohyudin, Naima Khan.

Jo Tu Chahay was titled ‘Kun Faya Kun’ initially and the original title alone was so promising because the emotional nation that we are assumed that the writer must be bringing something super substantial because of which she chose such a meaningful title; turned out the writer was playing a prank and ended up successfully fooling the viewers out. As the story of Jo Tu Chahay progressed, it became a lot more evident that it was about a whining nagging girl who despite having her grandmother’s support just couldn’t find herself a reason to be thankful. Mashal was the bone of contention between the entire family.

In simple words, it was a typical ‘mohallay wala cousins wala pyar’ sort of a story where each and every cousin was trying to get hooked to one another. Arman wanted to marry Mashal. Areesha wanted to marry Arman. Bisma wanted to marry Hashir. Burhan wanted to marry Mashal. Mashal wanted to marry Hashir. In the end, Hashir and Mashal, throughout the drama who always emphasized the fact that they were each other’s brother & sister ended up getting married ta-daaa! No wonder why in an Instagram Q&A session, Imran Abbas himself called this project ‘faarigh’, we totally agree with you Imran!

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2020 (Updated)

Deewar e Shab

Writer: Aliya Bukhari
Director: Iqbal Hussain
Producer: MD Productions
Channel: Hum TV
Main Cast: Sarah Khan, Shahzad Sheikh, Shehroz Sabzwari, Kinza Hashmi, Nausheen Shah, Zara Noor Abbas, Asma Abbas, Bushra Ansari, Iqbal Hussain.

The last episode of Deewar e Shab aired on March 21, 2020, and even after 8 months, we’re still trying to figure out the purpose of this drama and the meaning behind its story? Isn’t it amusing that the drama which had a good 40 episodes failed to deliver a clear cut message and also failed to create an impact through the million characters that the story revolved around? There were so many characters that if tackled properly, it could have been an engaging journey but the poor direction drowned the ship.

It won’t be wrong to say that the very first 5 episodes of Deewar e Shab were very interesting but after Nagina’s daughters grew up, the story lost the appeal it had. The story of two brothers and their children also was so boring that it made the viewers scratch their heads trying to figure out what the writer was longing to show. The ending of this drama was so abrupt and the main character of Khayyam, played by Shehroz Sabzwari still failed to find the peace that he was looking for despite getting enough chances to live life the way he wanted. Deewar e Shab’s story was based on one of the finest works of Urdu literature but the execution was disastrous!

Kahin Deep Jalay

Writer: Qaisera Hayat
Director: Saima Waseem
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo Entertainment
Main Cast: Imran Ashraf, Neelam Munir Khan, Hammad Farooqi, Nazish Jahangir, Saba Faisal, Ali Ansari.

It won’t be wrong to say that the viewers were actually excited to see Neelam Munir Khan and Imran Ashraf after their mega-hit serials Dil Mom Ka Diya and Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, turned out they were excited for no good reason because Kahin Deep Jalay became Kayi Dil Jalaye because their fans were thoroughly disappointed and their blood was boiled! This drama had your typical ‘sazishi bhabhi’ whose hobby was making mountain out of a molehill. It was interesting to note that the writer tried to make Shameela the ultimate villain but her negativity was overpowered by the stupidity of the supposed ‘masoom’ characters who chose not to say anything to help their situation.

Saba Faisal played the role of Khadija who loved her children more than anything but despite seeing their sufferings, she decided to observe ‘mourn vrat’ because she felt it was too difficult to speak up and put Shameela in her right place. This drama was quite frustrating on its own but what took it to another level was Imran Ashraf’s bad acting. It was obvious that Imran Ashraf tried to break free from the ‘Bhola’ spell but it became evident that not only he was trying too hard, but he was failing miserably as well. Imran Ashraf tried to show Zeeshan’s character as a very emotional person but it ended up looking annoying. This entire drama was frustrating to watch and became one of the worst that we came across this year.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2020 (Updated)

Mein Na Janoo

Writer: Noora Makhdoom
Director: Furqan Khan
Producer: MD Productions
Channel: HUM
Main Cast: Sanam Jung, Zahid Ahmed, Affan Waheed, Komal Aziz, Waseem Abbas, Huma Nawab.

Who could have thought that some of the wisest actors in the industry would choose to be a part of the disaster that was Mein Na Janoo. This was the most meaningless, absurd, and poorly acted-out play this year. Right from the beginning Sanam Jung’s performance, Affan Waheed’s white-washed look, and the pathetic storyline made the viewers question Zahid Ahmed and Sanam Jung’s choices in particular. The viewers were left wondering why Sanam Jung decided to make a comeback with such a pathetic drama. Not only this Sanam’s overdramatic performance made the viewers question her acting skills. Even Affan Waheed’s performance was so disappointing in some scenes that the emotional scenes looked comical. Zahid Ahmed even apologized for being a part of the drama and accepted that he had not made the right choice!

Most of the viewers gave up on this drama after a few weeks and those who watched it right till the end got to see the most pathetic ending to a drama serial this year! Mein Na Janoo was the worst in terms of script, execution, and performances. It was a complete train wreck right from the first episode till the last one! This was a drama that did not even have enough substance to cross 15 episodes but it was on air for 37 weeks.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2020 (Updated)

Muqaddar

Writer: Iqbal Bano
Director: Shehrazade Sheikh
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo Entertainment
Main Cast: Faysal Qureshi, Madiha Imam, Ayesha Gul, Ali Ansari, Haroon Shahid, Sabeena Farooq.

Muqaddar was another drama this year with some of the most sought-after and versatile actors yet it was sadly the worst drama of 2020 which was not just poorly written but also highly misguided. Just like all the other dramas on this list, Muqaddar never had anything to offer. It is truly unfortunate when an actor of Faysal Qureshi’s stature does not only become part of such a drama but even promotes it as a ‘love story’. Not only this, even someone as talented as Faysal Qureshi seemed to be trying too hard; the accent was fake and the performance wasn’t impressive. Madiha Imam, who is usually so sensible while choosing the projects she works in disappointed everyone by playing a character that started off as interesting but turned out to be quite twisted.

At the end of the day Muqaddar was another dusri biwi storyline but with a really ugly twist. Every time the viewers thought they had seen the worst of this drama, the writer shocked them with another ugly twist! The ending of this drama was the final nail in the coffin. The person who had all the characteristics to be a villain was conveniently turned into a hero with his second wife (whom he had kidnapped and forced into marriage) running a charity with his portrait hanging in the background! As far as twisted storylines go, Muqaddar definitely took the lead this year.

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2020 (Updated)

Thora Sa Haq

Writer: Adeel Razzaq
Director: Ahmed Bhatti
Producer: iDreams Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Main Cast: Ayeza Khan, Imran Abbas, Mashal Khan, Saba Faisal, Behroze Sabzwari, Firdous Jamal.

This was not the first time that Ayeza Khan and Imran Abbas starred in a drama with the most typical storyline. Thora Sa Haq however is the worst drama these two have been seen in together. Imran Abbas and Ayeza Khan both somehow end up being part of the most clichéd storylines and unfortunately every year the quality of dramas they work in seems to be deteriorating. Both these actors know that they have the star power to make their fans tune into their drama therefore even though Thora Sa Haq was a sickening sob fest, it was a popular hit. This was another drama in which Ayeza Khan cried from the beginning right till the end. It was also one of those many dramas in which Imran Abbas played the role of the forever clueless hero.

Thora Sa Haq’s story was another doosri biwi story presented on screen in the way it has been shown so many times before as well. Ayeza Khan played the bechari wife and Mashal Khan played the crazy one who married this man even though she found out that he was already married. Thora Sa Haq used the same old tactics to get attention from the viewers which have been used so many times before and sadly enough such dramas get the ratings, therefore, the makers continue to churn out such absurd plays.

Daasi

Writer: Misbah Nausheen
Director: Mohsin Talat
Producer: MD Productions & Moomal Entertainment
Channel: HUM
Main Cast: Mawra Hocane, Adeel Hussein, Faryal Mehmood, Kamran Jilani, Hina Khawaja Bayat.

Dassi was Adeel Hussein’s comeback play and Mawra Hocane also played the leading role in it. Both these actors are quite choosy about the dramas they decided to act in yet they chose to be a part of one of the most badly written and executed dramas this year. Daasi’s script failed to impress completely and both the leading actors gave the worst performances of their career in the drama. This was one of those dramas which did not even get viewership like some of the other dramas on this list. The only thing viewers were thankful for when the last episode aired was Mawra’s neatly styled hair since most of the views thought that her hairstyle was the most annoying aspect of her look for the drama. Some of the scenarios in the drama were presented in such a dodgy manner that even those viewers who watched all the episodes couldn’t find the answers to some of their questions.

The slow pace, disappointing performances, and some of the most illogical and overdramatic plot twists made Daasi the worst Pakistani drama of 2020. It is unfortunate that an actor such as Adeel Hussein who has been part of some of the most notable dramas of the past decided to make a comeback with this drama. His fans expected better from him and from the two topmost production houses in the industry.

Zebaish

Writer: Bushra Ansari
Director: Iqbal Hussain
Producer: MD Production
Channel: Hum TV
Main Cast: Bushra Ansari & Family & no others.

The entire cast and crew of Zebaish deserve a standing ovation for giving us a drama so bad this year that it somewhat made us forget about the pain and stress caused by Covid-19 because there’s not even a single episode of Zebaish that would not make you laugh. Writer Bushra Ansari deserves full credit for doing Pakistani drama buffs such a huge favor and the rest of her clan also should be praised for acting so bad that it makes you laugh like hyenas. Drama serial Zebaish is written by Bushra Ansari, to showcase the character of Shahana, played by her as well, as a ‘Mahanta ki moorat’. Shahana has done so much and has given her everything to others that in the latest episode when she had to flee to save her life, she only had one maxi dress at her disposal.

All the experienced actors such as Asma Abbas, Asad Siddique, Bushra Ansari, Babar Khan, Zara Noor Abbas have acted so bad that it makes you wonder they themselves were not in a serious mood while shooting this project. The story was somewhat alright but the bad execution and poorest direction by Iqbal Hussain have taken away an ounce of interest people could’ve developed in the story. All the actors have overacted to their heart’s content and their exaggerated expressions send shockwaves in your brain. Within this drama, all the actors are competing with each other to win the award of who can over-act the most; leading the race are Zoya Nasir and Zara Noor Abbas, followed closely by Asma Abbas and Babar Ali. Bushra Ansari has looked her prettiest in this drama but even her expressions are a treat to watch because of being so loud and equally bad!

Meherposh

Writer: Misbah Nausheen
Director: Mazhar Moin
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo Entertainment
Main Cast: Ayeza Khan, Danish Taimoor, Zainab Shabbir, Ali Abbas, Sania Saeed, Rehan Sheikh, Ismat Zaidi.

This drama was promoted as the next big thing because this was the very first project of real-life star couple Ayeza Khan and Danish Taimoor after their wedding. Ayeza Khan had mentioned in one of her interviews that she would love to work in a typical love story with Danish and would want her first movie with him to have such sort of a script. Ayeza must’ve thought that the movie could wait, therefore the script that had such twists and turns must have intrigued her. Meherposh ended up being such a flop that you would barely find both Ayeza and Danish promoting it on their social media handles. The misfortune of Mehru started at the very beginning and still continues. Mehru got divorced because her husband Naeem thought she was characterless. Mehru also decided to commit suicide. Mehru was taunted and her reputation was tarnished.

This drama showed all the things it should not have in regards to a girl getting divorced. From Shahjahan’s mother to her friend Neha’s mother during her wedding function, Mehru was treated as an outcast because she got divorced? Shahjahan has loved Mehru with all his heart, so much so that he ended up marrying Mehru’s younger sister only to prove how much he loves Mehru. Just when you think it couldn’t get any crazier, Shahjahan who acted like a ‘bheegi billi’ in front of Mehru ends up becoming a ‘jungli sher’ in front of his wife Ayat because he can not stand her? Someone, please ask why didn’t he refuse to get married in the first place when he knew he’d end up ruining Ayat’s life. The way Ayat & Shahjahan’s mother comes up with plans & conspiracies against Mehru is absolutely disgusting. Meherposh is the kind of drama that one should do everything to erase from their memories. Also, not to mention, the lack of chemistry between Ayeza & Danish sticks out like a sore thumb too!

Raaz e Ulfat

Writer: Maha Malik
Director: Siraj ul Haq
Producer: 7th Sky Entertainment
Channel: Geo Entertainment
Main Cast: Yumna Zaidi, Shehzad Sheikh, Komal Aziz Khan, Daniyal Afzal, Gohar Rasheed, Hina Bayat, Arisha Razi Khan, Seemi Pasha.

There is no denying the fact that Raaz e Ulfat has garnered a decent amount of viewership over the course of its run but the overall storyline is not only weak but fails to deliver any purpose to the viewers who are watching it. The story of Raaz e Ulfat revolved around the girl Mushk who came from a very conservative background but because her parents put their trust in her, they decided to give her the freedom she yearned for, in a hope that it would help her achieve the academic goals that she was after. The story took a very typical turn and Mushk ended up falling in love only to eventually hate her parents for the values they strongly believed in and taught her as well.

Raaz e Ulfat also happens to be one such drama which has openly shown a homosexual character and there have also been certain conversations between supporting characters such as Sehba and Nomi where they spoke about the illicit things they have been involved in as a couple when they were dating. This drama has openly shown Sehba and Nomi doing drugs and consuming alcohol. Mushk is now married to a widowed father of two and a brother to a mentally incapacitated girl Mohini and in almost every single episode, Mushk is fed that she should feel lucky to have hit a jackpot in the form of Ismail Miyan! The drama is going to have a typical Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam end where Mushk will choose Ismail Miyan over Irtiza. This drama has also elaborated how when in love, the common sense and logic behind right and wrong go out of the picture. Mushk is married to Ismail but is once again meeting Irtiza behind her back, exactly how she used to go behind her father’s back to date Irtiza!

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2019 – Here is a List of 5 Dramas

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2019 – Like every other year, this year too there were many drama serials which missed the mark completely and failed to win the viewers over. Since our production houses make so many dramas every year therefore there are bound to be plays which do not pass as quality projects but the biggest disappointments of this year were those Pakistani dramas which the viewers had huge expectations from. These were star-studded serials backed by the best people and production houses in the business yet they failed to deliver. Some of the drama serials in this list ironically were the most awaited and anticipated plays mainly because of the way they were promoted by the channels, production houses and the actors involved. All such Pakistani dramas basically proved one thing – no amount of marketing can make up for the lack of quality. Viewers tuned into these dramas with great expectations, continued watching them in the hope that they will get better and eventually were extremely disappointed. It is unfortunate that the production houses invest more in promoting these half-baked ideas than they do in ensuring that the final product is worthwhile.

Here is the list of the worst Pakistani dramas of 2019 which can also be termed as star-studded disasters.

Aangan

Writer: Mustafa Afridi
Director: Muhammad Ehteshamuddin
Producer: MD Productions
Cast: Sajal Ali, Mawra Hocane, Ahsan Khan, Ahad Raza Mir, Sonya Khan, Madiha Rizvi, Hira Mani, Omair Rana & others.

Aangan was the most awaited drama serial of 2019. The reasons for this were many, this was Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir‘s first appearance together after their on-screen couple became a massive hit when Yakeen Ka Safar went on air. Another reason was that Aangan had been written by the writer who won the award for the best drama already for his project Sang-e-Mar Mar. This was the first period drama of its kind after Dastaan and not to mention the fact that it had a long list of stars who were really proud to be a part of this project. The production house went out of its way to promote this drama therefore the viewers were pretty sure that they had something grand in store. Even when the first official trailer of Aangan was released, most of the viewers were impressed by it because it had a very theatrical feel to it. Little did the viewers know that the makers of this drama actually did rely on its visuals more than anything else. Right from the first episode everything about Aangan was average and there was more focus on the makeovers and the sets than anything else.

Aangan’s script was weak, its execution was shoddy and the end was the worst. Aangan quickly turned from being the most awaited drama to the most criticized one. Aangan turned out to be one of the most meaningless Pakistani dramas this year which will always be remembered for all the wrong reasons. This drama neither had a purpose nor entertainment value, which is why it couldn’t even pass as a guilty pleasure. It was actually upsetting to see all the star power going to complete waste due to the lack of substance. Sajal Aly, Mawra Hocane and Ahad Raza Mir did complete justice to their roles but couldn’t save this sinking ship.

Cheekh

Writer: Zanjabeel Asim Shah
Director: Badar Mehmood
Producer: Big Bang Entertainment
Cast: Saba Qamar, Bilal Abbas Khan, Ushna Shah, Emaad Irfani, Aijaz Aslam, Noor-ul-Hassan & others.

Big Bang Entertainment has given the viewers quite a few quality dramas in the recent past but Cheekh was one of those dramas which started with a big bang and hit rock bottom after a few weeks. Cheekh promised to be the story of a strong woman who would fight for her dead friend and vowed to get her murderer punished even against all the odds. This was the kind of story which needed a serious treatment yet the makers focused entirely on the commercial elements and even Saba Qamar’s star power couldn’t keep the viewers from screaming out loud at the height of repetition and lack of content. Saba Qamar’s performance grew weaker as the story turned into a snooze-fest and the production house banked on the old formula of showing a few fast paced episodes in the beginning to hook the viewers. Cheekh turned into yet another one of those dramas written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah which focused on the bechari aurat when Mannat turned from being a fighter to becoming a complete victim.

Making the viewers feel sorry for the main protagonist has been the primary goal of team Cheekh for the longest time now. Apart from that the mediocre acting from Bilal Abbas Khan is putting the viewers to sleep. The viewers expected to see proper court proceedings but the court case was turned into a lame joke which showed that the writer simply didn’t put in enough effort, thinking and time into this script. Well, that is what happens when you make an entire 20 plus episodes drama based on the story of a 2 hour long film.

Deedan

Writer: Attiya Dawood
Director: Amin Iqbal
Producer: 9th Degree Entertainment
Cast: Sanam Saeed, Mohib Mirza, Ajab Gul, Huma Nawab, Minsa Malik, Rasheed Naz, Tipu Sharif, Sarfaraz Ashraf and others.

The drama produced by 9th Degree Entertainment turned out to be 3rd degree torture for the viewers. The only good thing about Deedan was the scenic location of Gilgit Baltistan where this entire drama was shot otherwise the storyline, the characters as well as the direction was heavily flawed and it just didn’t make an impact. Every time people hear Sanam Saeed’s name, they are pretty much sure that her drama is going to be amazing but that was not the case with Deedan. Deedan’s story was about a star-crossed couple that couldn’t be together because of societal scrutiny and obstacles. It later turned into an ugly case of runaway bride as well as marital rape. The writer twisted everything so much and made it look like it wasn’t a big deal that while being in someone else’s Nikkah, Resham was living under one roof with her boyfriend Zardab while being pregnant with her husband Gul Khan’s child. The writer wanted to show that everything is fair in love and Deedan was a twisted story. This drama also had a track of a working woman Palwasha but it was showed that her husband Alamzeb was dominant and he controlled her like a puppet. To put in simple words, this drama was a disaster and what’s worse was Sanam Saeed and Mohib Mirza’s association with it. Sanam Saeed’s dependence on glamour and light skin also took away the impact her character would have made. It was unrealistic seeing her properly made up hairdos and smokey eyes throughout the drama where everything was always unfavourable for her.

Koi Chand Rakh

Writer: Maha Malik
Director: Siraj ul Haque
Producer: Idream Entertainment
Cast: Imran Abbas, Asma Abbas, Ayeza Khan, Muneeb Butt, Areeba Habib, Yasmin Haqn Tanvir Jamal and others.

This drama was not memorable at all but the thing it will be always remembered for is hideous makeup and 50 (eye and blush) shades of pink. The only thing that the entire team of Koi Chand Rakh focused on was making sure that every single cast member looked ghostly white, probably they thought looking as white as Casper was going to make them look beautiful but that was a mistake. This drama was disaster++. The direction was bad and the acting was even worse. When this drama was announced the fandom of Ayeza Khan and Imran Abbas was thrilled that they were going to pair up but no one had an idea that this drama would turn out to be one of the biggest flops and both these actors would act poorly. The only good thing about Koi Chand Rakh was Muneeb Butt and his character of Umair. It was shocking that this drama did well in terms of rating and YouTube views but the truth is, it was a poorly made drama where 99.99% of the situations and reactions just didn’t make any sense. There was no continuity in the scenes and the characters were the worst character ever written in the history of Pakistani dramas. Areeba Habib despite wearing 100 layers of makeup was an eyesore.

Mere Humdam

Writer: Seema Munaf
Director: Haseeb Ali
Producer: Momina Duraid
Cast: Syed Jibran, Sarah Khan, Gohar Mumtaz, Mashal Khan, Fazila Qazi, Humera Bano and others.

This drama was another yawn-provoker because the heroine of this drama was so innocent that she put innocence to shame. Warda was so innocent that innocence committed suicide in Mere Humdam. In the initial episodes Warda was introduced as someone who always stood by the right and knew how to differentiate between right and wrong but as this drama progressed, her character took such a big U-turn that the road regulatory authority banned U-turns. Warda let her husband Haris exploit her. Warda’s best friend Osama was in love with her yet she could not guess it despite seeing his lifelessness where he would show up at 3AM if Warda called him for help. Warda’s character was annoying to the core but she crossed the level a couple of notches when after getting married to Osama she made a huge fuss after finding out that she was the girl Osama was in love with right from the beginning, duh! Sarah Khan is such a good actor, but her choices are exactly like the character she played in Mere Humdam – super bad! It was also amusing seeing Syed Jibran play such a pushover, bhai jee kind of a role!

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2018

Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2018 are all those dramas which viewers had huge expectations from but they did not deliver. Every single year, drama makers try their best to give Pakistani drama buffs some amazing dramas. At times they do succeed but sometimes they also fail and miserably at that. This usually happens when the drama makers are unable to convey the vision that they have. A drama fails to click with the audience when the story falls flat, the characters have no personality, the direction isn’t great and the general plot isn’t strong enough. At times simple dramas when executed properly make an impact as well but then there are those dramas also that start off on a strong note but end up testing the patience of the viewers. Also, some of these dramas had scripts which were extremely callous and insensitive in more ways than one.

This article is dedicated to those dramas that could have done well but failed miserably, hence proudly taking a spot in the list of Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2018.

Noor-ul-Ain

Writer: Edison Idrees Masih
Director: Sarmad Sultan Khoosat
Producer: iDream Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Imran Abbas, Sajjal Ali, Iffat Omar, Irfan Khoosat, Marina Khan and others.

Noor ul Ain or rather Bore ul Ain was everything that a drama should not be. Despite having a stellar star cast and an ace director sailing the ship, it turned out to be a wreck that was unsalvageable. Noor ul Ain’s story was a complete rip off of Bollywood Block Buster ‘Saathiya’. Despite having months to convey the story properly in comparison to the measly 2 and a half hours’ duration of a movie, the creative team failed to make any of the situation convincing because even after the first half of the drama was over, people were still wondering when and why and most importantly how did a practical, dull and boring girl like Noor fall for a guy like Khizar who she just met – so much so that she forsake every other relation in her life that she once cherished. Where Noor and Khizar’s supposed love-story should have been the highlight of the drama, it turned out to be one of the most boring aspects that just didn’t do anything for Imran and Sajjal’s fans. The writer tried really hard to make this story Pakistani drama-esque by turning the character of Ghazala, played by Iffar Omar, the ultimate villain for everything that Noor did but that still was not an excuse enough to hold Bore ul Ain scot-free because by the end of the day, she was not a toddler (even though she acted like one) who could not own her decisions.

Noor ul Ain explained to the viewers very very clearly that even a stellar star cast and a well-reputed director can not save the ship if the story is not convincing enough. It was unfortunate that every single cast member agreed to do this project because they wanted to work with each other in stead of putting the story above everything else. Noor ul Ain could have been an amazing drama but the predictable and seen-before story along with bland direction, characterization and acting made it one of the worst dramas of 2018.

Ishq Tamasha

Writer: Misbah Nosheen
Director: Danish Nawaz
Producer: Momina Duraid Productions
Channel: HUM TV
Cast: Junaid Khan, Aiman Khan, Faizan Khwaja, Kinza Hashmi, Alizeh Shah, Furqan Qureshi, Saba Faisal and others.

As the name suggests, it won’t be wrong to say that this drama has become a Tamasha, a circus in itself that is not enjoyable anymore. When Ishq Tamasha began, it had all the flavors to draw the attention, that is exactly why it gained all the well-deserved popularity but now it is too obvious that the popularity has gone to the heads of the drama-makers, hence the dragging and unnecessary twists and turns that do not make any sense anymore.

Even though the character of Rushna, played brilliantly by Kinza Hashmi, was quirky and non-serious but that is what the selling point of this drama was. The cute sisterly bickering and hopelessly romantic teenagers waiting to find their prince charming was the theme of the drama and even though nothing new, there was still some spark in this drama that kept the interest of the viewers intact but that is not the case anymore. Ishq Tamasha showed that a girl can cosily live in a house of her kidnapper and not only that, she can keep a track of his milk and tea timings too. This drama is progressing on the basis of zero communication and it is mind-numbing that everyone in this drama sympathizes with Mirha, played by Aiman Khan, yet no one takes a stand for her and calls spade a spade when she is being mistreated. The ending of this drama was one of the worst endings this year. While Mehrab got away with everything because he was a man and got his happy ending, Rushna was punished in the worst possible way. Therefore with great sense of pride, we give it a well–deserved place in the Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2018.

Khasara

Writer: Maha Malik
Director: Shahid Shafat
Producer: Six Sigma Plus
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Sarwat Gillani, Junaid Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Sonia Mishal, Hassam Khan & others.

This drama had a star cast, it had one of the most well-reputed production houses in the country backing it up and the OST was sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The director too is known for his creativity and attention to detail but unfortunately Khasara was one of those dramas this year which had the worst scripts. This was another one of those dramas which proved that no amount of star cast can save the day if the script doesn’t have much to offer. The concept this play revolved around was not all that bad but the way the story was taken forward was not the least bit impressive. Also, Sonia Mishal was a complete misfit as Sila.

Khasara’s story was not new but Linta’s character and her relationship with her husband was somewhat new. The fact that the characters in this play were flawed in a way which was not appealing made this drama one of the worst ones this year. The characters lacked depth and their story did not have too much to offer. Accepting Sonia Mishal as the most beautiful and attractive woman alive also was really difficult. In the end, just like many other dramas this year, the woman was not forgiven for her mistakes and her punishment couldn’t have been worse. Khasara had great production values but no substance.

Mere Bewafa

Writer: Zanjabeel Asim Shah
Director: Sakina Samo
Producer: Sadia Jabbar
Channel: Aplus
Cast: Agha Ali, Sarah Khan, Shagufta Ijaz, Zhalay Sarhadi, Osama Tahir, Hassan Noman, Madiha Rizvi & others.

Mere Bewafa was promoted as one of the most watched dramas this year while it was on air and it did get the ratings too but this drama was flawed to the core. This was one of those dramas in which the writer literally cheated the viewers into thinking that the leading lady Azra will eventually break free from an extremely abusive relationship with her husband but in the end she went back to him like nothing bad ever happened between them! Right from the first episode Shahmir, Azra’s husband, was shown cheating on her with her best friend. All through this drama Shahmir treated Azra in the worst way possible, married her best friend and was also responsible for her miscarriage yet when in the last episode he said “sorry”, Azra welcomed him back with open arms! Muskan’s character and track was the only good thing about the drama but she was conveniently sidelined in the second half of the play.

Mere Bewafa was one of the worst dramas which promoted the worst of clichés. It showed that a woman must forgive an abusive husband who continuously cheats on her whenever he feels it is the right time to ask for an apology! Even though Azra had a better choice, a neighbor who truly loved and supported her but like a good desi heroine for whom a divorce and a second marriage is a complete no-no, she went back to Shahmir. The viewers watched Azra suffer day and night endlessly for 23 weeks and then in the last episode, she went back to Shahmir! Mere Bewafa was not just pointless but also demeaning to all the women. The dialogues were just plain cringe-worthy at times. The writer glorified a man who deserved to be punished which was height of irresponsible writing.
