The Sindh government has decided to pay tribute to comedian Umer Sharif. Karachi Administrator and Sindh Government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab on Saturday announced to name Karachi’s Shaheed-e-Millat underpass and Hyder Ali roads after legendary comedian Umer Sharif, who passed away on Saturday.

Taking to Twitter, the Karachi administrator said, “In recognition of the services rendered by late #UmerSharif, KMC will name its underpass at the junction of Shaheed-e-Millat and Hyder Ali Roads as “Umer Sharif Underpass.”

Earlier, Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani tweeted that legend Umer Sharif will be buried at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi graveyard as per the comedian’s wish. The government is making arrangements for that.

A three day National Artists Convention and CPEC Cultural Caravan were held at the Pakistan National Council of Arts. At its conclusion, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting has announced Pakistan’s first ever Film and Culture Policy. Pakistani cinema is flourishing for a few years now and after facing a lot of challenges, our film industry has come out with many good movies which impressed the audiences as well as did good business.

With India’s ban on Pakistani artists and no ban on their content from Pakistan’s side, it came as a good move to at least give support to our own cinema. The policy came into effect immediately and states the following points for the betterment of Pakistani cinema:

• The film industry has been acknowledged formally as an industry.
• Establishment of finance fund as well as a film academy will take place.
• Directorate of films and publications will be restored
• Film Studios will be built under public-private partnership where the government will supply land and 80% rebates will be given for the construction of cinemas.
• There will be no duty on importing film equipment.
• Artists will be included in the health scheme.

Whether this policy gets implemented or not is a different debate but it is a good step in promoting our own culture and facilitating the artists and filmmakers.

Ko Ko Korina has done which could not be done by the 22 crore people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Yes, the opposition and the government are finally united. Yesterday, a huge drama broke out when Shireen Mazari, Minister for Human Rights called the attempt of remaking Ko Ko Korina horrendous. The singer Momina Mustehsan did not hold back and came forward to defend the song.

The situation got interesting when people were agreeing with Shireen Mazari left and right. We are all familiar with the relationship among Pakistan Tahreek e Insaaf and Pakistan People’s Party. With the former being in the government and the later on the opposition benches, they are never seen agreeing on any point. But Ko Ko Korina finally made it happen when Senator Sherry Rehman from PPP came forward with the same opinion as Shireen Mazari from PTI. She called the Coke Studio’s version flat and shared that she likes the Leo Twins version. Here is the Senator’s tweet:

Namaaloom Afraad (Unknown persons) is an upcoming film being shot in Karachi these days. It is expected to be released later this year, and is based on situation of Karachi. The cast consists of Fahad Mustafa, Salman Shahid , Javed Sheikh and others. The producer  is yet to make any public statement about this project but press report revealed this film is on situation of Karachi. Fahad Mustafa the lead character is also silent about this film.

As per report of Urdu Weekly Akhbar-e-Jehan, Fahad was not very confident about this film, even considering it as a routine film. It all changed when a real bus and car were crashed in a shooting sequence, and Fahad is now proudly telling that he is working in a high budgeted movie.

The film also had an item song filmed on Meera, for which full payments were paid too. However when the producer watched the rushes of item song, Meera appeared dull, colorless and aged, the results were against what was expected. Instead of going after reclaiming the paid amount, the producer persuaded Mehwish Hayat for the same item song, who justified her selection. Pleased with her performance the producer has increased the role of Mehwish and now she can be seen in few scenes with villain Salman Shahid too.

So now the film is important for film career of both mehwish and fahad.
