Humayun Saeed’s drama serial Meray Paas Tum Ho was a cult classic; a drama that built itself a loyal fan following. Starring Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan and Adnan Siddiqui in pivotal roles, the drama revolved around the story of a man who couldn’t possibly think about living without his wife who dumped him for a rich man and then came back to haunt his peaceful life.

Meray Paas Tum Ho became so big and popular amongst the audience that its last episode was screened in cinemas across Pakistan, breaking records all over. The last episode aired on 25th January but as it seems, even a month and a half after Meray Paas Tum Ho has ended, people still are under its spell and want to know if there could be a sequel to it or not.

In a recent interview with Waseem Badami, Humayun Saeed was asked if there could be a sequel for Meray Paas Tum Ho. Upon the question, Humayun Saeed said there could be and if it would happen, he would again want Khalil ur Rehman Qamar to write the script for it because he was a wonderful writer.

In various other questions Humayun Saeed said that he never thought there was anything wrong with the script of Meray Paas Tum Ho and he didn’t find it degrading towards women at all. Regarding the famous “2 takay ki larki” dialogue, Humayun said that the dialogue was just simple and didn’t intend to demean women because it was spoken aptly in the situation. “We use this dialogue in a number of situations and it was the same in Meray Paas Tum Ho. However, because it was spoken in a tense situation, the audience picked it up.”

Today, the last episode of the drama serial Idiot aired on Green Entertainment. Fans loved the emotional yet realistic ending of the drama serial. The viewers expressed sadness over Gulzar’s (Ahmed Ali Akbar’s character) passing. Some viewers were not happy with Sadat’s forgiveness, they believed that he should not have been forgiven so easily, they wanted punishment for him.

CMACED at Superior University and Neo TV are joining hands to launch Pakistan’s first ever TV reality business show called ‘Idea Croron Ka’. Nabeel A. Qadeer who is known for promoting Entrepreneurship in Pakistan, will design and lead the show.

Idea Croron Ka will act as a platform that brings the investors and entrepreneurs together. Salim Ghauri, Founder and CEO at Netsol, Naeem Zamindar, Pakistan Country Director and CEO at Acumen and Humayun Mazhar, Founder, CEO and Chairman at CresVentures will be joining the show as investors.

Ibrahim Ali Khan comes from a big film family and part royalty in India. He is a new actor and the son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. His sister Sarah Ali Khan is also an actress. The young actor has followed in his family’s footsteps and made his film debut with Nadaaniyan.

The film Nadaaniyan released on Netflix to very negative reviews. The actor was not able to win the audience and his screen presence was not half as strong as his father. The actor’s dialogue delivery, dialect and even the film’s screen feel were all criticized unanimously by everyone.

A Pakistani film critic Taimur Iqbal who shares a name with Ibrahim Ali Khan’s half brother also shared his review of the film and severely criticized it. What actually became the most harsh part of the review was that the critic criticized Ibrahim Ali Khan’s nose. This did not sit well with the actor and he slid into Taimur’s messages and threatened him with a harsh reply. A screenshot shared by the film critic is now going viral on social media.

Pakistan is brimming with great young talent and one such group of talented people is our young filmmakers.

The Izhar by Film Fellowship (IBFF), an initiative of Morango Films, with support from UN Women (the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women) showcased the talent of 60 young filmmaking trainees and held a screening ceremony of the top 25 short films produced by these trainees from across Pakistan.

IBFF is a fellowship program which works for the social and political rights of women.

The trainees aimed to raise awareness on social matters through 60 second documentaries that highlighted the state of women in our society.

The screening took place on Thursday 30 March 2017 at the National Library of Pakistan, in Islamabad.

The jury consisted of famous music video and commercial film directors including Amena Khan and Sohail Javed; Founder of Morango Films Abrar Ul Hassan; Co-Founder of 60SIFF and Morango Films Affan Alam; and Social Media Director Laiq Qureshi.

The top 3 fellows received scholarship grants of Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.

During the ceremony, Abrar ul Hassan (Co-Founder Morango Films) said:

“It is overwhelming to have received such highly impacting films made by the aspiring youngsters, who have endeavored to depict aspects of rights of women in a very realistic way.”

Sangeeta Thapa (Chief Guest and Deputy Country Representative, UN Women Pakistan) appreciated Morango Films for the first-ever IBFF and said:

“It is heartening to see the overwhelming response to the fellowship and strong messages that have been shared with us through these films. We all have a role in creating awareness on political and social rights of women, whether through films or any other medium. As advocates and champions for gender equality, your messages can and do impact the way people perceive the roles and rights of women. On behalf of UN Women, I congratulate each one of and we look forward to together ‘Stepping It up for Gender Equality where we have a Planet 5050 by 2030.”

This collaboration between UN Women and Morango Films falls under UN Women’s project on “Women’s Peace, Security, Rights and Voice: safe public spaces, community outreach and empowerment, and political awareness and advocacy” with support of the Government of Australia.

Azhar Memon is an IBA graduate who went viral after he was discovered by the media working on the streets of Karachi. His interview revealed how he is an MBA graduate from the prestigious IBA but life happened, and he has been thrusted down by life. He went viral all over the internet and people wanted something good to come his way.

IBA is considered one of the best institutes of Pakistan and graduating from that school mostly means good employment opportunities. But life can throw curve balls at you and that is what happened to Azhar Memon. He ended up working on streets but now social media has helped him score a good job.

Humaima Malick appears to have done really well with her first movie even before it has been launched because she has already signed three-film contract with Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who is a very famous Bollywood director, reported Deccan Chronicle.

While giving an interview to the newspaper Humaima Malick said, “I have signed a three-film contract with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The first film is yet to begin but I have already been signed up.”

When asked whether she would move to India for good, Humaima said, “I think I have already moved to India for good. There was a time when I used to juggle between London, Dubai and Pakistan. Now India has become a second home.”

Humaima Malick refuses to compare herself with Veena malik and Meera because she wants to leave an everlasting effect on the Indian people like Zeba Bakhtiar did. “As far as I know, the last Pakistani actor who made a successful debut in Bollywood was Zeba Bhaktiyar. The Hindi Medium actress, Saba Qamar is riding high on the horse of success. She has appeared in a number of television shows and advertisements in Pakistan. The starlet will be back on our TV screens with a new project called Baaghi, where she will play the role of late social media sensation Qandeel Baloch.

“I am going to be playing Qandeel Baloch in a biopic,” Saba reveals to Images. “I have cut my hair in order to play her,” says Saba. “It’s going to be exciting.”

The biopic is a Paragon Production, produced by Nina Kashif, General Manager of Urdu1.

“We want to tell Qandeel’s story in a very sensitive way,” says Nina. “We do not want to glorify her nor do we want her to look pitiful. She was a victim of honor killing and this is what we will particularly be highlighting. The story has been written by Shazia Khan, the screenplay is by Umera Ahmed and Farooq Rind will be directing.”

When asked how does Saba feel about playing Qandeel, a figure who divided opinion with her social media presence?

“An actor is not defined by boundaries and I am not afraid at all,” Saba says “Qandeel was a victim and a fighter and somebody needs to tell her story. She was a woman who went from place to place trying to find work for herself. She tried to work in transport, read devotional naats on TV but wherever she went, she was misused by people. It was only much later that she chose to make videos on the Internet. And she did all this and earned money and used it to support her family. Her family didn’t have any problems taking money from her but they felt that it was all right to turn around and kill her in the name of honor.”

“Qandeel represented the double standards that exist in our society,” continues Saba. “She had the courage to expose how two-faced people could be. There were many people that condemned her in the name of religion but tell me, doesn’t religion tell us to abide by many things? How can we choose to selectively follow what we find comfortable and attack anybody who tries to break free from the norms that we choose to set.”

Arnab Goswami is always at the forefront when it comes to hate speech and initiating any dialogue that is anti-Pakistan. According to recent reports, Goswami and his channel Republic TV recently declared Hamza Ali Abbasi an undercover ISI agent.

In response to Goswami, Abbasi tweeted:

Osman Khalid Butt became popular among the television viewers in Pakistan with his debut drama Aik Nayee Cinderella. Viewers criticized his make over but loved his acting. He became even more popular when he played the role of a grown up spoiled brat in the one of its kind serial Aunn Zara.

Aunn Zara recently went on air in India where viewers highly appreciated it. Recently Hindustan Times took Osman Khalid Butt’s interview in which he was asked if he wanted to work in Bollywood to which he replied, “Which actor hasn’t dreamt of Bollywood and Hollywood glory, I’d love to work in a Bollywood film some day with the right script, of course. The dream is to direct a Pakistani film and take it to India. “

Khalil-ur-Rehman is a polished and competent Pakistani television and film writer, director, and producer who always remain in the limelight because of his extraordinary stories and misogynist comments. He is known to be one of the most blunt Pakistani artists who is always complaining about various Pakistani leading actresses. khlail-ur-Rehman was recently spotted in a show “Ghabrana Mana Hai” with “Vasay Chaudhry”.

Khalil-ur-Rehma talking about his issue with Mahira Khan mentioned that “I share a very respectful relation with Mahira Khan. I respect Mahira Khan a lot and the same was from her side. I was startled to see Mahira Khan’s tweet that what she has written.”

“She could have called me personally and discuss about whatever she wanted too. If she had done this, then probably I would have responded her in a good manner”, added Khalil-ur-Rehman.

In a recent interview to English Daily The News, Instep, famous artist Ali Zafar revealed he was offered the lead role in recently released film O21 which he refused.

Speaking about current scene of Pakistani cinema

“I would love to be a part of this new-age cinema but I have to do it on my own terms,”  “Nothing appealing has come my way in the last five years. I was offered the lead in O21 but I wasn’t sure about the concept then and I declined. I’m working on two of my own scripts at the moment. Both are going to be pure entertainment – that’s what the cinema-going public pays to watch.”

O21 was released on Eidul Azha in October 2014 and Shan performed the lead role in this film. Earlier Ali Zafar also refused the character of Sarmad in film Khuda Ke Liye a role which was later performed by Fawwad Khan.

Veena Malik spoke to media for the first time about the recent controversy involving her in Shaista Wahidi’s Morning Show which effected everyone involved in a bad way. While talking to BBC Urdu Veena Malik said in her defense that she was a guest at the Morning show so she could not control the content.

Veena said that she and her husband were sitting there very decently while the manqabat was being sung in the background. She also said that she had tremendous respect for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his companions. For that reason she could never think of insulting them in any way at all.

Veena said that her heart was clean so she had nothing to worry about. She also said that she was moving around freely without any fear.

Hamza Ali Abbasi, while talking to Dawn News, told about his future plans and his upcoming movies Kambakht, Maula Jatt and Jawani Phir Nahi Aani.

    I want to do at least one drama a year. However, I haven’t come across a riveting script as yet. The kind of scripts being pitched currently have not grabbed my attention. I do plan to return to television this year, provided I get the right story.”

He told that he was busy in dharnas that is why the shooting for Kambakht got delayed.

He said that entertainment should be with a message or moral and that Kambakht will make people laugh but think as well.

While talking about JPNA, Hamza said that he will star opposite Ayesha Khan in the movie. The shooting for JPNA will wrap in Feburuary, while Maula Jatt is in pre-production stages.

He declared that him and Saba Qamar are just friends, but revealed that;

Drama serial Sabbat has just ended, leaving a lot of lessons behind specially for girls.

Mawra Hocane who played Anaya in Sabaat earned a lot of critical and commercial acclamation. In a recent interview with BBC Mawra Hocane talked about Sabbat and its different aspects.

Talking about the script of Sabaat Mawra said that scripts like Sabbat don’t come out very often. But she felt that it was very liberating to perform Anaya because she thinks that it was a very progressive script and character. Performing such characters makes you believe that you are giving something back to the society.

“I would want to see more of this, because I have lived a life like Anaya’s. I have had parents who were very, very supportive of my carrier- or whether it’s my career choices or if its my decision to study in the middle of having a good career and to keep going back to educate or leave it in the middle when I get a good project. So I think its very important to have that kind of communication with your parents” said Mawra

Azan Sami Khan is the son of celebrated Pakistani actress, Zeba Bakhtiar. He is music composer and writer as well. His father is a well-known singer, Adnan Sami. Back in 2015, he gave up his Pakistani identity to become an Indian citizen.

Azan Sami Khan in a recent interview with BBC Asian Network talked about his stance on his father’s decisions and their relationship. He expressed how he is a true Pakistani and wants to work in Pakistani industry.

“I feel like the industry in Pakistan is my family. It is an immense pride for me and hope and ambition that I can contribute to an industry which I call home.”

On asking upon, how much he has learnt from his mother?

He replied, “I think after God wherever I am is cause of her. She has been in more than anything else she is not a person who’s ever you know told me what to do but she’s set certain value system that’s very clear. She is extremely disciplined, honest and patriotic woman. If I have certain values it comes from her.”

He further added, “I grew up with my mother. I always go to my father for advise and it’s very interesting relationship because we may not speak  at times for months but when we do we just get each other. As a child, I think it’s not our place to comment on what our parents do. It’s not our place to tell them what to do.”

On asking upon his father’s decision, he replied, “So the truth is, I have never spoken about it before. He is my father, I love him, I respect him. He has made certain decisions of where he wants to live but what I choose to call home is now my choice and now I choose that I want to work in Pakistan. “

Shaan Shahid has clarified his stance regarding being cut from the cast of upcoming film Sayae Khuade Zuljalal. As per Shaan he himself opted out of this film as he was unhappy with the script and director. So the news of him being cut from the cast is wrong.

The famous Pakistani star Hamza Ali Abbasi has announced that he is not going to quit acting. He is taking a long break to focus more on Islam and he will act in projects which are made in boundaries.

The Alif actor wrote, “As i said in my video, i haven’t quit acting bcz i dont see it any whr in Islam as being haraam in itself.”

The actor further added, “I just took a long break from acting to give more time to religion & insha Allah will make & maybe act in projects made within boundaries Allah has set for us.”

Last year, Hamza Ali Abbasi announced to leave showbiz and spend time to spread the message of Islam.

The Waar star earlier also said that he has decided to leave the entertainment industry to follow the path of Almighty Allah but seems like he has changed his decision and will act in more projects.

Ushna Shah has very openly shown her displeasure with everything that annoys her on social media. While the whole controversy regarding her alleged affair with Hamayun Saeed was going on she stated how she felt on her facebook page in particular. She keeps a low key profile on her twitter page.

Telling from her tweets and statuses on the facebook page Ushna looks like a very professional girl who does not “put up with crap”. When Ushna puts on such a status the people who know endorse it, some saying that they have already seen the “B**ch” in her. Ushna Shah does not mind that at all because she thinks her attitude is justified.

Shamoon Abbasi is not Calm about the situation of Cinema in pakistan. His recent tweets are filled with rage and anger on “Financers ” whom he has referred to as “Flop Financers” .  He has said no body in pakistani is interested in how much a financer spends in Ghaghra cholis and the set ups of the films but story.

It seems that he has recently seen the current movies who are in cinemas because he is been referring some women financer indirectly and fans think it is about Momina Duraid.

He has aways been vocal about the deteriorated situation of Cinema, his Movie Durj is going to hit cinemas soon, which is about Cannibalism in which he is coming alonside Sherry Shah. The film seems to have a different storyline. He is also coming in a comic movie Come on Abhinandan, in which he is playing Abhinandan ‘s charachter.

It is sad to say but the current mindset of the  film industry of Pakistan is going to bring alot of loss in the future if new student level film makers and new writers aren’t introduced, its time for a change in the narrative of entertainment industry

Veena Malik departed from Pakistan after being part of an objectionable program i.e. Utho Jaago Pakistan of Geo TV hosted by Dr. Shaista Lodhi. Since then Veena Malik has not appeared on media but finally she has appeared in a program of BBC to share her thoughts on the objectionable program.

It is very common for people to spread rumors about celebrities but some rumors are so baseless that it is shocking to know that someone could have come up with such a gossip piece. The rumors that Sanam Jung and Waqar Zaka were involved with each other to the extent that they were going to get married very soon were ripe in the media not very long ago.

Sanam Jung decided to talk on the subject when she was a guest on HSY’s talk show on HUM and Waqar Zaka has told people repeatedly that he has never even met Sanam Jung but no one pays heed to what he has to tell his fans and media. Sanam Jung also said that watching Waqar’s show was enough for her which means she wants nothing more to do with him!

Waqar Zaka was invited to Sahir Lodhi’s Morning Show in which he said that although he has told the media people again and again that he does not even know Sanam Jung as a person no one is willing to end these rumors. Waqar said that these rumors very often ruin the reputation of the girl more than the boy involved in them. He also said that Sanam might think that he is the one behind such rumors because he wants to get cheap publicity.

Ali Zafar is working on Teefa In Trouble 2 and one international project.

Ali Zafar has been part of the Pakistani industry for quite a long time. He has made his name by working in movies and through his melodious songs. Ali has good fan following in Bollywood and has appeared in Bollywood films alongside Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif and many others.

Recently he appeared in The Munshi Show where he talks about his international project, Teefa In Trouble 2, future projects and much more.

His future projects are:

I have this one other international project in the pipeline. Teefa In Trouble will start next year because I require time to write for music and all. I don’t work to stay in but rather I work for my growth. I can’t rush just to be in the market, says Zafar.

On asking upon which TV actor should jump right into films?

“I thought about Fawad Khan when he was working on TV. He should be the movie star,” he replied.

What one thing which Fawad Khan, Fahad Mustafa and Atif Aslam have and you don’t have and wish to have?

The rockstar replied, “Fawad has many good things and he has got great hair. Atif Aslam has great compositions and Fahad’s energy is something I admire.”

Ali further talks about how filmmakers have an obsession with Eid, weddings, colorful dresses, love and dramatic scenes.

A few words about award shows in Pakistan? Munshi asked.

“I think they need to take the notch higher. They need to be more professional and one thing is authenticity which should never be compromised. Every channel has started their own award shows and they give awards to their films and dramas only. I would love to see everyone on single platform and support each other because our industry is very small,” Zafar shared.

Then the conversation moved to discuss about the #metoo movement on which Ali said, “I deeply respect the #metoo movement and I seriously condemn its misuse.”
