A lady in the audience stated, “We were disappointed with the attitude of the KMKT actors because were waiting for them for two hours. The actors arrived late and then left without saying a good bye with big attitude, they are not even as big as many other superstars. They lack humbleness a lot. We know they got a huge success for their drama serial but they need to learn how to handle the superstardom that comes with success. If they don’t know how to handle the success, they should not be on the big platforms”. Daldal Episode 9 – Review!

Ohkay so, as the episodes of this drama are progressing, they are showcasing the negativity of another level which by the way isn’t something alien to human beings. The story of this drama revolves around how selfish people can get and how blinded their agendas can make them.

Hira lost her father but unfortunately, even she knew what this news would do to her and her marital life. It was heart wrenching to see that in stead of mourning the loss of her father, Hira was far more concerned about Shuja’s reaction and his heart break because he was so excited to go to London. Hira has slowly and steadily understood what her husband is made of that is why despite being emotionally shattered, she was distracted and wasn’t concentrating much on her mother or the news of her father’s death!

Kamran got a job and on the other hand Saniya’s parents are pushing their limits to make Saniya’s in laws happy by meeting all their demands. Saniya has made it clear that she is not into the idea of getting married & even her brother is not too happy with Saniya’s in-laws-to-be but he can not say much because his parents are not keen on knowing what Saniya wants or who she wants to be with. Even though Kamran has finally bagged a job but not sure if he will be able to convince Saniya’s parents since they themselves are pretty materialistic and everyone knows the financial condition of Kamran’s family!

Saadat tried to knock some sense into Shuja & told him to get back to work because his dream of leaving for London couldn’t be materialized. Now that the dream of Shuja settling in London was pretty much over, Sakina grew cold towards Hira, to an extent that she didn’t even care that she was carrying a baby. Hira has done everything to please Shuja & his family, she has literally compromised everything to fit in their family but still, she doesn’t get treated with respect because both Shuja & his mother are on the same page & are now seeing her as a reason behind Shuja’s failure.

I must say, this drama is a decent watch but it still lacks that flavor to attract the viewership. Zahid Ahmed once again overacted in this episode, so much so that I didn’t mind skipping a few of his scenes. Yes, Zahid is portraying frustrations of a man who wants to give luxuries to his family but then, there was no need to overdo this character because he is annoying. Armeena Rana Khan has undoubtedly portrayed Hira’s character to perfection & I am definitely impressed. The preview of the next episode promised a lot more negativity & I really want to see how far both Shuja & Sakina can go. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Daldal.

Daldal Episode 7 Review – Just Alright!

Ohkay so, this episode of Daldal had a few development to its credit. Even though what has been shown in this drama is a true depiction of reality but somehow I feel a few actors have taken the portrayal of their characters too far which somehow can get on your nerves. I can totally see why this drama isn’t gaining much popularity, it lacks something & the overall feel which attracts the viewers!

So, Saniya got engaged & her in-laws-to-be seemed a bit too commercial & materialistic. They left no stone unturned in making it obvious that for them this entire marriage was nothing less than a business deal & even Saniya’s family felt odd but they couldn’t say much. Even though I really appreciate Malik Raza’s acting & his prowess of portaying such characters to perfection but I feel he is being typecast & to see him playing more or less the same characters time & again isn’t fun anymore, plus the fact that he chooses the same type of acting for these characters doesn’t help either!

So, Kamran was having a hard time already when Saniya came with the news of her engagement. Kamran being sensitive couldn’t deal with it but even then he tried to convince his family to send his proposal for Saniya even after her engagement. Sakina & Shuja really don’t believe in respecting others’ feelings that is why they didn’t pay heed to Kamran’s request. Kamran actually took things a bit too far & decided to end his life because the way he was insulted by both his family & Saniya was a bit too much for him to handle. In this entire family, Kamran & his father are two sane people but it is sad that Shuja & Sakina’s negativity & dominance outbids their niceness & rational approach in almost all the decisions.

Shuja was over the moon because his father in law told him that he will be getting a visa real soon. Shuja obviously thought now that his dream was going to get materialized, he didn’t have to put up with anything at his job & he ended up resigning it. It was wise of Shuja’s father to remind him that even his visa to London won’t grant him a quick fix to all his financial problems but Shuja is so blinded that he doesn’t want to listen to him.

I hated the way Sakina was treating Hira. Even though she knows that it is because of Hira that Shuja is getting a chance to go to London but she doesn’t believe in giving Hira the respect she deserves. Even Sakina knows that Hira loves & respects Shuja way more than he deserves, that is why even she is taking an advantage of it. I really want to see some growth in Hira’s character like I want to see her standing up for herself to Sakina & even Shuja because she is too nice for her own disadvantage.

Overall, this episode was just alright. I really feel Zahid Ahmed is the weakling in this drama, he has been over-acting & it is way too obvious that he was trying really hard to showcase the frustration of a hard-working ambitious man but he took it a bit too far. Another actor that over-acted her character is Asma Abbas, yes she has been realistic but her character & acting are a bit off-putting. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Daldal.

Daldal Episode 6 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Daldal was pretty basic & showcased the agenda of the main lead where he does everything to achieve what he wants. Even though there’s reality in what is being portrayed but somehow I find something missing from this drama, I am unable to put a finger on it but still I feel there’s something missing, but having said that, it does qualify as a decent drama to tune to!

Saadat found out about what Shuja did & he tried to do the damage control as much as he could. To be honest, I find Hira’s father Faraz & his concerns on the phone a bit unconvincing, like he has made quite a lot of money so it is hard to believe that first he couldn’t come to attend his daughter’s wedding & then after she was put through so much of trauma, he still didn’t find it in himself to come to Pakistan & deal with everything in person. There’s not much that Shaheen can do & even though Saadat tried to assure Faraz that he will take care of Hira but still being her father, Faraz shouldn’t have let things slide so easily that too over the phone!

Shuja & Sakina made sure that Hira doesn’t tell Saadat the actual reason why Shuja threw her out of the house, even Kamran was suspicious but he knew that Hira wouldn’t say anything that might rile Shuja up as he has already made it clear to her that he is not going to allow her doing any such thing which he disapproves of.

Saniya’s character is strong but I wish there was more to her than just worrying about her ‘shadi’, like girl, get educated, live life first & then worry about your marriage. It is good that she stands up for the right especially in front of her father but then in this episode I found her dialogues repetitive as if she has been set on a loop & she can’t say anything apart from that. Also, her conversations with Kamran are monotonous as well. Kamran tried to convey a message to his family through Hira but that was in vain as well because his family is not in a financial condition to afford any such ceremony. I found Sakina’s character quite annoying, yes there’s a lot of reality attached to her character but somehow the way this character has been acted out is a bit too over the top!

Finally Faraz agreed to help Shuja in achieving his dream of coming to London. Faraz has understood that this is what Shuja wants & this is the only way he will be able to keep Hira happy because this is what he dreams of. It was interesting that Shaheen presented a perspective of a woman who lives without her husband as she knows how hard it is, that is why she opposed the idea of Shuja leaving Hira behind but since Faraz himself has lived his life that way, he didn’t find anything odd when it came to Shuja’s request.

Overall, this episode was pretty decent. I liked Armeena Rana Khan’s acting especially in this episode, she portrayed the struggles of a girl who wants to make her husband happy by meeting all his demands to perfection. It is so obvious that Hira doesn’t want Shuja to leave but since she has seen that his mind is set on it, she knows there’s nothing that she’d say or do that would change his decision. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Daldal.

Daldal Episode 5 Review – Realistic Portrayal!

Ohkay so, this episode of Daldal took the story forward & showed how someone’s dream can force them to turn a blind eye to the one they love. This drama for sure is a decent watch & even though it doesn’t have that charm to draw viewer’s attention immediately, what they are showing is a true depiction of a certain class of society that dreams of settling abroad with preconceived notions in mind that all their problems will vanish the moment they will step outside Pakistan.

So, Shuja threw Hira out of the house & thought this will teach her a lesson, even though it did but it was good to see Kamran standing up for Hira because he could see that Shuja was at fault here. Kamran tried to knock sense into Shuja that by doing this, he was compromising on his family’s dignity but since Shuja only has his mind set on one mission, he didn’t think things through & thought that his irrational decision would yield him the results he is keen on. Kamran did what he could but he also understood that at that moment it was better for Hira to go to her mother’s place. It is good to see that at least after Sadiq, there’s Kamran in the family who is not only rational & sane but mature enough to understand the intricacies of all the relationships. Another appreciable quality of Kamran is that he knows the difference between right & wrong, exactly like his father.

Hira obviously tried to convince her mother but Shaheen didn’t budge. Shaheen can not see her daughter suffering without her husband just the way she did but right now, Hira is unable to understand that. Even though Hira did tell Sakina that despite having everything she never saw her mother happy as she longed for her husband’s presence but when it came to her, Hira ended up expecting her mother to do what Shuja demanded. Right now, Hira’s top most priority is to save her marriage & she knows that this is the only option because Shuja already showed Hira what he is capable of. Just upon hearing Shaheen’s opinion, he threw Hira out of the house so Hira obviously is well aware of the extent he can go to!

Hira came back & tried to do everything to convince Shuja that she supports his decision & that she will do everything to make sure that he gets what he wants. Shuja really has scored a big win in the form of Hira because she is not only submissive but is madly in love with him. Shuja’s change of behavior after hearing what he wanted to from Hira was so ironic yet realistic. Another thing that I found was a depiction of reality was how Sakina kept on brain-feeding Shuja against Shaheen & Hira. People might find it odd that a sister was wishing ill for her sister but this is something that happens in real life too where aunts don’t let their sons have a peaceful marital life with their nieces & in Sakina’s case, since she is suffering from inferiority complex, she now feels empowered that she has her sister’s Achilles heel, her daughter in her possession, therefore she plans on using it to her benefit!

Saniya is also going through a tough time because she is not too happy about her father’s work ethics & also feels burdened when she sees her mother talking about some rich guy that she’d want Saniya to get married to. Saniya knows that her family will never approve of her & Kamran’s marriage but since Saniya is someone who knows how to take a stand for herself, it is a done deal that she will fight for her right & will end up convincing her parents.

Overall, this episode of Daldal was decent. I know the characters of Puphos are quite OTT but I somehow see them as a comic yet realistic portrayal of such relatives, therefore I enjoy their bits. Even though both of them are meddlesome & have a hard time minding their own business but this time around they stood up for Hira & at least conveyed the entire scenario to the right person; Sadiq, because he would make sure that Shuja never does what he did ever again. All the actors are doing a great job, however in this episode Muneeb Butt stood out the most. His acting was not only convincing but effortless as well especially in the scene where he had a spat with Shuja for Hira’s sake. Zahid Ahmed seems to be emoting a bit too much & even his dialogue delivery sounds fake as if he is chewing his words & having a hard time in saying what he wants to say. I hope in the episodes to come, Zahid Ahmed tones his acting down a bit. Armeena Rana Khan is convincing as Hira & I find her acting perfect too, there’s a very small margin for her to perform since the character of Hira is very subtle & shy but still Armeena has done a great job. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Daldal.

Daldal Episode 3 & 4 Review – A Decent Watch!

Ohkay so, the story of Daldal has made quite some progress in these last two episodes. I like watching this drama for the fact that it shows the struggles, ambitions & dreams of regular people. It also shows how certain dreams can drive people to do things they wouldn’t do otherwise. This drama for sure highlights the fever that prevails in our society where younger generation thinks settling abroad is the only way to go & that will solve all of their dilemmas while completely overlooking the challenges & hardships one has to face while settling away from one’s family outside Pakistan!

Shuja & Hira got married & the very first thing Shuja conveyed to Hira was that he expects her to stand by him through thick & thin. He expects her to follow his lead & never question back. Shuja has clearly seen that Hira is not only madly in love with him but she is a bit too submissive, so he plans on exploiting this trait of hers to his advantage. Hira’s parents obviously did more than Sakina & even Shuja could imagine & they literally spoiled Hira’s in laws with so much stuff that they never would’ve thought of. It was sad that just in a few days Hira understood that things weren’t going to be easy & reality was much more different to the dreams that she & Shuja weaved about their married life together. The biggest shock that Hira got was when Shuja ordered her to convey his message to her parents. Hira never imagined that Shuja could say such a thing because all this while, they only spoke about living ‘together’ but now she could see that being with Hira was not his priority in the first place.

I like Hira’s character, like I liked the way she spoke to her mother about her in laws & then conveyed Shuja’s message to her. Hira never really said that it was Shuja who pushed her to do that, but she tried to make her mother aware of her in-law’s financial condition, only to convince her mother that letting Shuja settle in London was the only option left for his entire family. Hira tried to tell her mother how hard Sakina’s life was & how they had to do so much to keep things going. Despite being aware of their financial condition, Shaheen & Faraz accepted Shuja but they never would’ve thought that Shuja had an ulterior motive which he would put forth in such an early stages of the marriage.

Sakina is lucky that Shuja takes after her, because then she gets to share her frustrations with him. At least out of all her kids, Shuja is just as ambitious as Sakina that is why he bonds with her so well. I like the way they have shown that Kamran is just like his father, whereas Shuja is like his mother, who only wants more from life & doesn’t believe in settling for what is required to lead a simple & peaceful life.

I like Saniya’s character too. It was good to see Saniya & Fahad discussing their father’s means of income, like they both have grown up & they can differentiate between right & wrong. I think Saniya’s mother is going to suffer from some sort of disease for her husband to realize that no matter how much money you make, it will never benefit you if it isn’t clean. I am not too sure if there was a need to introduce or even add Tamana & Bilal’s track in the story, because it looks like an over-dosage of ‘mohallay ka pyaar’. Also they both are way too young for their track to have anything interesting about it. I really wish they had hired a guy a bit older to play the character of Bilal because going by the nature of his character, where he is shown standing up by his sister, also being Hira’s confidant & being someone who supports his mother emotionally, the actor is a total misfit due to his age, may be this is also another reason why seeing him getting candid with Tamanna left a bad taste in mouth!

Sadly, Hira’s dreams were crumbled when Shuja decided to make it clear to her what his dreams meant to him. It was sad that Sakina ignited the fire & stood there as a cold-hearted spectator when Shuja was dragging Hira out of the house. I really want to see what Shaheen & Faraz’s reaction would be. Shaheen does have a valid point, since she has spent her entire life without her husband being around, she exactly knows what Hira will go through if Shuja will go to abroad, that is why she isn’t in the favor of this plan but sadly, may be she’ll have to budge seeing Hira’s ordeal!

Overall, this drama is pretty basic but interesting. I will say that I like tuning to it because it is a very decent watch but somehow I am not warming up to the characters, like I am unable to put a finger on it but there is something missing from the characters, may be the depth or the insight or may be the director couldn’t really bring these characters to life because right now, they just seem like fictional characters showcasing the struggles of real-life characters but without much connection with it. I am definitely going to continue to watch this drama but I wish I feel something for the characters, like I do understand them & find them nicely written but the treatment is a bit off. All the actors have done a great job, Armeena Rana Khan is a very good choice for Hira’s character & she is doing justice to it. I wish I could say that about Zahid Ahmed too, yes, he is portraying Shuja’s role just the way it was required but I am not too sure about his acting. In the past, Zahid Ahmed has already showcased how fine he can be as an actor when he is effortless at acting, but now he seems to be putting too much of an effort to an extent of over-doing it & that really is hindering him from leaving an impact. Anyways, please share your thoughts about these last 2 episodes of Daldal.

Daldal Episode 2 Review – Simple Yet Interesting!

Ohkay so, it was quite an interesting episode of Daldal. I like the effortlessness & the simplicity with which the story moved forward in this episode even though it revealed a lot more about the characters but nothing was pushed or forced. I will commend the writer & the director for keeping things simple & realistic because it helps in understanding the characters better!

Even though Hira’s reaction was realistic at what happened at her engagement function but it also showcased how she was more worried about Shuja, his mother & their reactions. It went to show that Hira loves Shuja to such an extreme that she would do anything to please him. Hira obviously had a point & her frustration at her aunts was justified but the way she seemed concerned about Shuja’s behavior showed that in the future, Hira would allow him to walk all over her because she would believe that this is the sacrifice that her love demands from her & she is supposed to do everything to make things work.

I like how every single time it is made even more apparent that Shuja takes it after his mother Sakina & Kamran is like his father Saad. Sakina obviously made a scene & even held Shuja responsible for what she had to go through but it took only one statement from her son to convince her that she should put everything aside & think about the future. So, Shuja obviously likes Hira but since he is so ambitious, he doesn’t mind using Hira for his personal gains. Shuja has seen his mother sacrificing a lot because of her children since Saad was adamant on educating them, therefore in order to pay his mother back for all that she has done, he has come up with this plan that where he is going to get married to Hira taking her as his ticket to London. It was quite amusing how Sakina’s attitude changed with Shaheen & Hira because even she wants Shuja’s dream to materialize & she understands that for it to happen, even she has to curb her differences & accept Hira wholeheartedly.

I enjoyed Kamran & Saniya’s track a lot, like they are the ones who have a positive outlook on life & believe in standing by each other. Saniya obviously insists Kamran that he should send her proposal too but he is being realistic about it as he is still studying & doesn’t have a job. Saniya for the first time got to know about her mother’s standards where she rejected a proposal saying that she would want her daughter to get married to someone who at least owns a house. The way Kamran spoke about Saniya’s father, it did suggest that he makes a living through unlawful means but he made it clear that he would never resort to any such shortcuts because this isn’t something that his father has taught him & since Saniya has promised to wait for him, she understood his perspective too!

So, Shuja has already started brain-feeding Hira about what he wants & expects from her, obviously Hira being madly in love with him thinks Shuja loves her unconditionally too but she will find out about everything after she will get married to him. Shuja is someone who wants things to go his way & since Hira has proved how eager she is to be with him, he has read her enough to know that she will never ever go against his word & she will allow him to boss around her. Even though this was a small situation that was added but I liked it, where everyone in the family came together to hear out Imran’s concerns & to pass their verdict. Imran being a teenager is rebelling against his family & since he sees other guys of his age spending money, he finds it hard to concentrate on his education because he has already started dreaming big to earn money as well. I liked how both Shuja & Kamran came together to guide him & sternly told him that he had to continue with his education because this is what they expect from him.

Overall, this episode was quite interesting & I liked the way the characters are being etched out. Saad is such a considerate father & a very good human being because he was the only one who could feel Faraz’s concerns & distress & even told his wife to let go of everything. He is like a true elder of the family who understands the intricacies & doesn’t believe in blowing things out of proportion. I enjoyed watching Saad’s scenes because of Sir Abid Ali. Kamran & Saniya’s relationship & even their characters are quite nice too, like they both are pretty much alike, straight forward, without any agendas & truly honest with each other. Shuja is turning out to be quite a dark character & it is sad that Hira is going to suffer because of him. It was quite interesting how Sakina was bossing around her sister Shaheen too, like she knows that Shaheen would do anything to see Hira happy therefore she kept on pushing her to the limit. All the actors are performing brilliantly & I am liking the way the drama has been directed. Daldal definitely has had a great start & I am sure it is going to get better. I am definitely looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Daldal.

Daldal Episode 10-17 Review

Daldal was a highly anticipated drama from the first photos that Zahid Ahmed posted. Although the duo of him and Armeena Rana Khan was doubtful for me at first, let’s just say time does tell! Daldal (English translation: Earthquake) follows the lives of the six members of a poor but honest family, including Shuja and Kamran. Generally, these seven episodes have focused primarily on the lives of these two and the people that revolve around them.

To wrap it up to the present, Shuja has arrived in London after travelling illegally and going through a lot of trouble. The scenes in the containers and during their stay in Iran were raw and emotional, but could be executed better. I think the way the camera was positioned just didn’t do justice to how brilliant these scenes could be. I may be exaggerating it but after taking a co-op course in directing I wish it had been done better.

Meanwhile Saniya and Kamran’s track have come to a bit of a close. They had their nikkah done when Saniya’s father was arrested and her baraat left. Most of that part was really fast but well done, and the scene where her in-laws came back to ask for money was so outrightly disgusting! I’m also not sure why Saniya’s Mother is always excused for being “too sick”.

Kamran, on his own, has found a sturdy job and is receiving success in his work life. It was nice to see that he has become an independent yet considerate individual. He is an epitome of maturity, and I think Muneeb Butt has done his fair share in making this innocent, smart young man come to life. Kamran has grown to become so much like his father and it really is pleasant to see someone who has contrasted a lot from his brother yet still has success in life.

Sakina, ever herself, is one of the two OTT and annoying characters in this drama. If anything, the actress has made me hate her with extreme passion. I just don’t understand her state of mind as to not accepting Saniya as her daughter-in-law. If it was anything, it would have been that Sakina wants her last son to strike gold in terms of wealth (like Shuja did with Hira) but Saniya comes from a good family. Her extent of trying taveez on Saniya and Kamran’s relationship was shocking, but not unexpected as Sakina is shown to do whatever, whenever.

Then we have Shuja. Arriving in London he thought he has already gone through the “hard” time and now the money will just rain over him. I was chiding myself on laughing at some of his reactions, like walking into his new room and the nightly struggle of people on people.

Now to Episode 17, the most recent one that didn’t really progress a lot but still played a significant role. Shuja has come to realize that one job is not going to do anything for him, despite Sakina’s happiness. The way Sakina waited for the half minute to run out so that Hira didn’t get a chance to speak with him was just cruel, but isn’t the worse she has done. In terms of Shuja and Hira this episode was them living in their past together. I thought it all pretty repetitive and not necessary, like we have seen enough of Hira crying over her husband! Now Shuja has a new night job, and it seems bad things are following him everywhere! First is drug dealing boss and now selling drinks, he is in awe and unwilling to perform this jobs but the struggle is real.

Kamran and Saniya are married now, and is it just me or does the actress, Kinza, not look that great with a load of makeup? She is a really pretty girl in almost all the scenes but with a lot of bridal makeup she looked more orange. I skipped through their scene together because we have had enough of Kamran’s vows and know that he will be a GREAT and UNDERSTANDING husband. I hope Hira’s jealousy doesn’t take over and ruin this PERFECT relationship but the way it has been crafted seems to signal otherwise.

And now for the final scene. I am known on reviewit.pk as “kubrafanxo” but I’m not that appreciative of her versatility anymore. Really, there was no background into who Kubra Khan is playing, so I’ll have to wait till next week! In an interview she mentioned her cameo appearance is “blunt and very funny”, and I really hope that she pulls through with it! Kubra playing a comical role is something we all wanted to see in Shadi Mubarak Ho.

To be honest, after seventeen episodes I really don’t know what is left for this drama. I’m kind of glad Kubra was introduced because there is nothing I am looking forward to otherwise!

This is my first review so I’m sorry if it’s a bit choppy or all over the place! Feel free to leave me some constructive feedback and…

Until next time,

Alishba Malik (aka Kubrafanxo)

Daldal Episode 1 Review – A Great Start!

Ohkay so, the writing of Qaisara Hayat, direction of Siraj ul Haq & the production of Momina Duraid Productions; Daldal commenced tonight on a very promising note. There were little details through which the director established the vision of the writer & the circumstances plus the nature of the characters. I feel this is a must in the first episode of any drama that the viewers should get enough background to understand the struggles of the characters in order to be able to form a connection with them & relate to them & while watching Daldal, this is exactly what happened where we got a clear insight into all the characters & their lives effortlessly. I had a good time watching this episode & definitely recommend it to those who are on the fence about it!

So, we got introduced to a few families. First one being Sakina’s (Asma Abbas) family, who has a husband (Abid Ali) & 4 children; Shuja (Zahid Ahmed), Kamran (Muneeb Butt), a daughter Tamanna & a youngest son Imran. Asma & her husband share a very different perspective when it comes to life because Sakina wants ease in terms of finances whereas her husband believes in doing everything to educate the children, even if it means making sacrifices & this turns out to be the bone of contention between the husband & the wife.

Daldal Episode 1 Review - A Great Start!

Sakina’s sister Shaheen (Fazila Kazi) is married to Faraz (Ahson Talish) & they both have 2 children; Hira (Armeena Rana Khan) & a son. Faraz is settled in London therefore Shaheen’s financial status in comparison to Sakina is better. Shuja & Hira love each other therefore they decide to get married but their mothers despite being sisters oppose the idea but then Shuja takes a stand for his lady love & that’s how the mothers agree. Shuja is a government employee who is ambitious but he is frustrated with the way his life is panning out because he wants success & monetary ease as well which is hard for him to achieve due to the nature of his job. Every year it looks like Shuja expects a promotion but it is handed out to someone else who is one way or the other related to the senior employees. This makes Shuja even more frustrated & to add more to it, he feels his education hasn’t helped him the way it should have. Shuja’s father has always believed in working with utmost sincerity, even if it doesn’t reap the rewards as per your wishes but this is what Shuja fails to acknowledge & to add more to it, he has his mother’s back because even she shares the same perspective as Shuja because she is tired of seeing her husband & sons struggling hard to make the ends meet as well.

Daldal Episode 1 Review - A Great Start!

Hira on the other hand is a very content person who doesn’t have big dreams. Hira thinks just because she & Shuja have love, they will lead a very successful marital life because she has no such demands from him. Despite knowing that Shuja & his family are not as financially stable as her father, Hira has chosen to get married to Shuja, so it shows that she really doesn’t expect much from Shuja & only wants to be with him. This is the reason why Hira’s aunts Faiza & Zara oppose this proposal too but they don’t have much say as their brother Faraz has made up his mind.

Kamran is the only person who feels for his father & thinks on the same lines. He can see how hard his father works to give the best to his family & that is the reason he tries to lift the burden off his father’s shoulders when he sees his mother demanding money for Shuja’s engagement. Kamran tells his father that he will arrange the money for his college admission himself because he understands that if his father wouldn’t fulfill his mother’s wishes, she will make things harder for him. Kamran takes a loan from his friend Fahad, who happens to be his neighbor. Kamran & Fahad’s sister Saniya (Kinza Hashmi) like each other & Saniya happens to be Hira’s best friend too!

Daldal Episode 1 Review - A Great Start!

It was nice seeing how Shuja’s entire family came together to celebrate this special moment in Shuja’s life, like it was nice seeing them having a good time together because things are obviously not going to remain the same but it was refreshing for now. I liked how everything was conveyed realistically & noting was complicated for no good reason. Everything was straight forward & simple, like Sakina wanting to go to any extreme for face saving, Shaheen getting pressurized by her sisters in law, Sakina’s husband trying to do everything to make his wife understand how important education is for their children. I also liked Hira & Saniya’s friendship, it provided some lighthearted moments plus it effortlessly showed how girls of such age have such simple dreams & assume that things are going to all rosy & smooth just when they will get to be with the one they love because for them ‘love’ is enough & they assume that their marriage is bound to make them happy.

Well, the first episode began, it ended & I didn’t for a second lost interest in the drama because the director build the curiosity perfectly & I found myself wanting to know more about every single character. There was honesty & charm in the family get together scenes, I also had a good laugh at the quarrels & typical sister-in-law-sarcasm, I felt it just completed the picture in a very realistic manner because no matter where you are or who you are getting married to, there are always going to be such people who aren’t happy with the engagement/marriage. Even though there were a lot of characters but I felt everyone got a fair share of coverage to establish where they stand & what their importance is in the story. I must say all the actors did a brilliant job like they seamlessly fitted into their characters & didn’t make me feel like I was watching them for the first time or was finding it hard to relate to them.

Zahid Ahmed was impressive as Shuja, like he portrayed the frustrations of a government employee perfectly. I also liked how they showed that Shuja might be a bit too ambitious but he was responsible too because he actually got worried when he found out that Kamran had to take a loan to apply for college, he also questioned his mother about her needless spending for his engagement, like it showed that he understands the struggles of his father & that makes him more frustrated. Muneeb Butt was good as a decent & responsible Kamran who wants to help his father out. Armeena Rana Khan not only looked pretty but she portrayed the subtle & content Hira beautifully as well. Kinza Hashmi made Saniya’s character a treat to watch, like she performed without holding herself back & that is why her chemistry with her best friend was endearing as it looked natural. I must say Asma Abbas & Abid Ali were beyond brilliant, like what-else can be expected from such experienced senior actors. I had such a good laugh seeing Sakina & Faiza (real life sisters) quarreling over who was better & who wasn’t, it was hilarious. The direction was simple but perfect, the script of the first episode was perfect too, I am sure we have a lot more to explore so I am definitely looking forward to it. Please share your thoughts about the first episode of Daldal.

Daagh Last Episode – A Beautiful Ending!

0

Daagh finally came to its end this week and in my view it was a brilliant serial. All the actors especially Fahad Mustafa, Meher Bano, Sana Askari, Yasra Rizvi, Shama Askari have given their best in this show. And most importantly the director, Sarmat Khoosat has outdone himself by the beautiful portrayal of this story. He turned an ordinary and common story into a masterpiece by his beautiful direction. Honestly, when I first started watching this serial I did not expect much from it as the story is a very common one and dramas have been made on similar concepts many a times in the past. But somehow when I started watching it, it kept me hooked throughout. There were some points where the story seemed dragged but it never discouraged me from watching one episode after the other.

There is a lesson in this story for all those people out there who consider daughters inferior to sons and condemn them. Sadly, not only illiterate but many literate people are seen blaming the woman for having daughters when it is scientifically proved that a woman has nothing to do with the gender of the child. This story told us how a man’s obsession for sons ruined his life and how he paid for the injustice done by him to his wife and daughters. There is a lesson for us in the story and I hope it reaches out to people far and wide.

I was excited to see the last episode and I must say it did not disappoint me. We saw how Umama and her daughters’ life finally became better overtime and how their lives improved after they came out of their financial crises. I loved the scene when Umama asked her daughters if they would stand beside her through the worst situations and the innocent reply they gave. They had finally given up all hope on Murad and wanted to stand on their own feet now.

‘Hosakhta Hai Mein Apko Nayee Bag Na Dila Sakun, Aur Yeh Bhi Hosakhta Hai Ke Apko Bread And Jam Khana Parhe, Kiya Ap Phir Bhi Mera Saath Doge?’

This was such a heart wrenching dialogue spoken by Umama to her daughters and her daughters assured her that they would always be by her side and would never complain. I simply loved the mother daughter bonding!

I really felt bad for Azhar and Waleed as they did not deserve to be punished for their parents’ deeds. Okay, so I personally love the two babies who play Azhar and Waleed and whenever they are on screen I am busy ogling them so I felt even worse when I got to know of their condition. Murad wanted sons and now he has two sons who are not mentally stable, he rejected the 4 healthy and normal daughters just because they were daughters and the nature ended him up with his much beloved sons who would never be normal. Well, this is what we call Karma!

Deeba finally realizes her mistake and so does Aqeela and they both ask Murad to go and bring back Umama. I was happy to see Aqeela regretting her decision of getting Murad married to Deeba in the first place. If we come to think of it, Murad would not have been encouraged to marry if it was not for her. Murad finally goes to get Umama back but Umama refuses and says the most beautiful dialogues:

“Mein Apni Bachion Ko Apni Zaat Per Mukamal Yakeen Kerke Jeena Sikhana Chahti Hun,

Unko Is Baat Ka Ehsaas Dilana Chahti Hun Ke Who Mukamal Insaan Hai, Kisi Se Kamtar Nahi”

“Auraat Hone Unke Liyeh Kabile Faqr Hai Na Ke Kaabil e Nadamat”

daagh 1

All I wanted to do was to clap for Umama when she said these dialogues! These are one beautiful set of dialogues that stole my heart and the respect for Umama in my eyes increased tenfold. She no longer wants to rely on anyone and has decided to look after her daughters herself and she did not want her daughters to feel that their father accepted them a last resort, when he had no other choice left!

The last five minutes after this scene were beautifully directed as we got to see full blown remorse by Murad. He was helpless now just like Umama had been before and he could not do anything now but regret his unjustified behavior whereas Umama was finally seen happy and the show ended on her self satisfied smile. I wish every woman would try to be as strong as Umama!

daagh 2

A special mention for the beautiful OST of this show sung by Alycia Dias which always managed to uplift all the emotional scenes by its beautiful tune and lyrics. Sarwat Nazir has brilliantly penned down a common story in a very unique way and hats off to her for that. I will surely miss this show! I hope we get to see more shows with lessons for the audiences in the future too.

Thank you all for reading the reviews! What are your views on the last episode? Do share them!

Daagh Episode 22 Review – Nearing Towards Its End!

0

This show is nearing towards its end and we got to see remorse in Aqeela and a bit in Murad too. Aqeela is regretting her decision of getting Murad married to Deeba, she has now realized that her desire for grandsons had led her and her son’s life into misery. She cannot help but remember her sweet granddaughters who used to take care of her despite her rude and nonchalant attitude towards them. She is now realizing how well Umama had trained her daughters and what an obedient and caring daughter in law she was. I wish she would have realized this earlier then a lot of lives would not have been affected by her haste decision.

Murad came to his senses when he heard about Nimra’s accident. He came running to the hospital and completely broke down when he saw Nimra on the hospital bed. The way he cried showed that he regretted leaving his daughters and he still loved them a lot. Nimra’s accident managed to bring Murad and Umama closer once again, as the saying goes that children are the binding thread for parents. They can keep their differences aside for their children and this is what we saw Murad and Umama doing in this situation. Murad stayed at Umama’s house for the whole night and they were finally civil to each other.

I felt bad to see Umama going through a financial crisis after she had lost the job. She is finding difficult to care for her daughters alone and calls Mushtaq to help her find a tenant but the cold reply she got from her Phupho clearly indicated that she is not going to get help from them either. Since Mushtaq spoke to her mother about Umama and his willingness to marry her, her attitude towards Umama had changed. It was kind of predictable since Umama is still married and she has 4 daughters with her too. Mushtaq is trying to help Umama but he needs to understand that she is still a married woman and it is extremely wrong to think of her as his future wife.

Nimra’s accident was the highlight of the episode. I personally think that Meher Bano over acted a little during the accident scene and there was something definitely wrong with her expressions in a few scenes. The scene where she rushes to her house because her kids are alone was a bit exaggerated. But overall, Meher Bano has done a very good job as an actor in this show. Fahad Mustafa was just outstanding in the scene where he cries in the hospital! For me, that was the best scene of the episode as we could see emotions like worry, regret, and relief all at the same time!

The bad editing was a bit annoying as they showed the morning scene where Deeba gets to know about Murad spending the whole night at Umama’s house and in the next scene they show that its night and Murad is asking Umama if he can stay at her place for the night! I am sure many of you would have noticed this because it was very obvious.
Deeba once again managed to irk me with her behavior. She seems mentally unstable at times with her cold attitude and child like behavior. She will definitely do something now that she knows where Murad was the whole night. I am curious to know what will happen in the last episode. Will Murad finally leave Deeba and bring Umama back to his house? Will he finally realize all his faults and see Deeba’s true face? This show has been a roller coaster ride for me and I am really looking forward to its last episode!
Do not miss the last episode!

Daagh Episode 21 – Surrounded by Problems!

0

Sometimes I wonder what makes me watch this show. There is nothing new in the storyline and some scenes are extremely distressing to watch. But there is definitely something which makes me watch one episode after the other without any fail and I think it is the lesson in it. I love shows with a lesson and a good message that reaches across to the audiences. There are lots of men like Murad who crave for sons and many women like Umama who suffer because of their husband’s obsession with sons. A show which manages to get a message across and influence lives is definitely worth a watch!

We saw one difficulty after another engulfing Umama in this episode. Life has become hard for Umama after her father’s death as she needs to look after 4 kids and support all of them alone financially too. It saddens her to see that she cannot even fulfill small needs of her kids. They barely have enough to eat while at Murad’s house there is more than enough food to eat, but no one present to eat it. She thinks of asking Murad to give money for his daughters but then decides against it. Her self-respect is refraining her from asking him for money but the question is, for how long?

It is hard to decide whether Mushtaq is an angel or a devil in disguise. He offers to help Umama which she gladly accepts. I sense that he has an ulterior motive behind his caring and helpful attitude, but what can it possibly be? It is hard to believe that he is interested in Umama and the kids all of a sudden. Her neighbors have started noticing Mushtaq coming to her house from time to time, and a woman comes to her place and points finger at her character! How pathetic! Why can’t people mind their own business? After that, Umama clearly tells Mushtaq not to visit their house.

After seeing Mushtaq drop the kids and Umama to school, Murad finally changes his decision and decides to go to Umama and offers her to come back to his house. Umama clearly refuses to come back and gets extremely angry when Murad asks if Mushtaq is the reason why she is not ready to come back. After hearing this, Umama’s patience gives away and she gives Murad a piece of her mind. She tells him that unlike him, she knows her limits. Murad definitely needed this!

Deeba has again started to play her games. She has again worn the facade of being a very obedient and caring wife and daughter in law. She manages to fool Murad but Aqeela is well aware of her games now and knows that she will change once she achieves her motive. Deeba even goes to Umama’s house to warn her to stay away from Murad. Umama clearly tells her to keep Murad because she has no interest in him anymore. After failing to convince Murad to give Umama a divorce, she tries to make Umama agree to give Murad a divorce. But as usual, all her efforts fail and Umama refuses to listen to her.

I loved the dialogue spoken by Aqeela to Murad:

“Yaad Rakhna Murad, Jo Bo Ge Wohi Paoge”

She tries to tell him that by doing injustice to Umama and her daughters, you are making a grave mistake as it will all come back to you in the form of karma. Well said Aqeela! I can’t believe I am saying this, but I actually agree with her.

It is hard for Umama to teach at the school as she needs to look after Soha too. She gets kicked out of the school when the principal clearly tells her that such careless attitude will not be tolerated. How will she support her kids now? Will she ask Murad for money or go back to his house again?

Let’s see what is in store for us in the next episode.
Keep watching!

Daagh Episode 19 and 20 – A Huge Loss!

0

The last two weeks had been pretty slow as the story is not progressing. It is pretty much stagnant at this point. Deeba is becoming more demanding day by day and Murad fulfils all her wishes to keep her happy as she is the mother of his ‘sons’. She emotionally blackmails him and he gives in to her demands. He even fulfilled her demand of not bringing Umama back to the house. Murad went to Umama’s house when her father requested him to come but her father soon realized that Murad has no intention to take Umama and her daughters back to his house. This shattered all hopes that Umama had from Murad and she even refused to take his financial help. I absolutely loved the scene when she hands his money back to him and tells him on his face that if you cannot give us shelter, we do not want your money either. Way to go Umama!

Umama has finally decided to move on with her life. She had started studying again and is trying to find a job to support her daughter’s education. Both her father and her sister had been very supporting in all her decisions. And I simply loved the bonding between Umama and her father. He is trying to make up to her for his cold behavior towards her all her life. He even handed over the papers of the house to her to provide her security for the future. But the bonding between them was short lived as he soon passed away. It was heart breaking to see Umama in such a bad condition after her father’s death. Meher Bano has given a very good performance once again. What shocked me was that Murad did not feel an ounce of pity for her and was in no mood to go and sympathize with her on such an occasion. Rehana had to actually force him to go with her to Umama’s house. He still feels insulted because of the way Umama refused the money and treated him. But what about all the insults she had faced so far Murad?

Deeba had crossed all her limits this time! She had the audacity to ask Murad to divorce Umama. I was extremely satisfied to see the way Murad reacted when Deeba told him to give Umama a divorce. He almost raised his hand on Deeba and warned her not to say anything like this again. For a minute I thought he would actually agree to this. Even Aqeela got really angry when her sister and Deeba told her the same thing. Deeba left the house after seeing Murad’s reaction but soon came back when she realized that Murad may go back to Umama.

Murad’s inner turmoil is upsetting him. On one hand, he regrets what he had done to Umama and the kids and on the other hand, his ego refuses to bend. He has also started to miss his daughters a lot and seeing their cold behavior towards him managed to upset him. Well, what else can he expect from them? He rejected them and refused to bring them back to the house. They saw his rude behavior with them and their mother too and have no respect left for him anymore. Rehana was able to talk some sense into him and he is slowly realizing his faults. Will he finally get Umama back to the house?

Aqeela and Rehana both know now that Murad lied to them. He never went to take Umama back but instead went and told her that he cannot take her back to the house. Rehana and Aqeela both feel guilty and helpless as they cannot do anything for Umama. Rehana genuinely wants Umama to get all her rights back but Aqeela has her own selfish reasons for bringing her back to the house. Rehana is the only sensible and mature person in the house. She is one of my favorite characters in this show. Yusra Rizvi has done a wonderful job as Rehana. Fahad Mustafa and Sana Askari have also performed brilliantly yet again!

I really want to see what happens next. Will Umama go back if Murad comes to take her back or will she start her new life just the way she had planned? It will be interesting to watch what happens next.
Keep watching!

Daagh Episode 18 – Height of Insensitvity!

0

I have no words after watching this heart breaking episode. I have no respect left for Murad after this episode. He finally spilled to Umama what was in his heart all this time.

“Tumne mujhe aj tak diya hee kiya hai siwaye 4 betiyon ke, Deeba ne mujhe mere waris, mere bête diye hai”

The heart wrenching cries of Umama after hearing these words made me switch the channel. Meher Bano’s acting was spot on! Murad finally voiced out the one thing she dreaded to hear the most. Umama was quiet as long as her daughters were given their rights but now Murad’s attitude towards his daughters has changed drastically after the arrival of his two precious soon; Azher and Waleed.

Deeba has become adamant on making Umama and her daughters’ life miserable. Her tactics are extremely annoying and cheap. First, she kicked the kids out of their own room as she wanted the room for Azher and Waleed. Then she told Murad to shift the 4 of them upstairs in a store like room and if this wasn’t enough she wrongly blamed Hira for dropping her son purposely which led to an argument between Deeba and Umama and resulted in Murad slapping Umama! This was the last straw and Umama’s patience completely gave away and she moved back to her father’s house.
This time she told everything to her father about how she was being treated in the house and he supported her and her decision. At least she can live peacefully there. I really hope she does not go back after this humiliation. Murad has completely become Deeba’s personal puppet and does everything that she asks. She asked Murad to transfer the house to her son’s name and he agreed despite Umama’s protest. I could not help but laugh at the irony of the situation when I saw Murad tailing after Deeba. Previously, Deeba followed Murad and he did not pay heed to her and now Murad is completely at Deeba’s mercy.

The only person in the house who still values and cares about Umama is Rehana. The main reason for her concern is because she is indebted to her as she gave her the child she always craved for. Rehana tried a lot to make Murad realize his mistake but it was all to no avail as he did not pay any heed to her words. I loved Rehana’s dialogue when Murad said that Umama will regret leaving the house and she bluntly told him ‘Kahi pachtana tumhe hee na parh jaye’. This dialogue brought a huge smile to my face. Murad and his selfish mother will definitely regret the way they have treated Umama. Rehana also tried to make Murad realize that Deeba is not capable of providing a good upbringing to his sons, only Umama can do that. So true! Her upbringing is brilliant and it reflects in her daughters.

Here we go again! Whenever Aqeela feels like she cannot do the house chores alone anymore, she remembers Umama. How pathetic! She only sees Umama as a working machine with no feelings and emotions. How insensitive can people get? She wants Umama back in the house so that she would do all the work 24/7 while she lays back and get some rest. Umama has become nothing but a scape goat for everybody! Its time she realizes her own value and leaves these selfish, good for nothing people. I hope she takes Atiqa’s advice and start her studies again and stand on her own feet. It is about time she learns to live without the support of others.

Fahad Mustafa never fails to disappoint me with his superb acting. The character of Deeba suits Sana Askari perfectly. Her acting is so convincing that I cannot help but hate Deeba from the bottom of my heart! She can do positive as well as negative roles perfectly and this is one quality which few actors possess. I really hope Umama does not return to that torture house! I am eager to know what happens next. I really hope we get to see Murad and Aqeela regretting their behavior soon.
Keep watching to find out what happens next!

Daagh Episode 17- Injustice!

0

Finally, Murad and Aqeela’s wish came true as Deeba gave birth to not one, but two sons. Can things get better for Murad and worse for Umama? Umama had never wished ill for anyone despite everyone’s’ intolerable behavior towards her but she could not help but get sad after hearing news of the twin sons. She could not help but complain to God that if he wanted to give Murad sons then why not from her? I felt extremely bad for her and I got even sadder thinking that many women in our society face similar situations. It is extremely upsetting to see that despite being so educated people still have such orthodox views.

Unfortunately, there are still people in our society who discriminate between sons and daughter and Murad is shown as one such character. He is the most disappointing character in this show for me. At first, it seemed like he cared about his daughters but now we can see a totally different side of him. He did not even care when Umama told him that his daughter Fiza was unwell. Instead of taking her to the doctor, he chose to take Deeba to the doctor and then they were seen shopping for their unborn sons while Umama was worried about her daughter’s worsening condition. Umama was aware of the fact that she had been replaced in Murad’s life but she seemed satisfied to see that Murad still cared about his daughters, but now even that illusion is broken. Umama’s mother in law also showed no concern for her daughter. How indifferent can people get!

Murad’s change of attitude is very hard to digest. I cannot believe that this is the same Murad who loved Umama so much. Umama still never complains about Deeba’s demanding behavior and her servant like treatment towards her. Murad has just become a selfish person and only cares about his sons. He even puts up with the annoying and demanding attitude of Deeba for the sake of his sons. I literally clenched my teeth when he got angry and told Umama to stop competing with Deeba when she told him to keep his daughters’ Aqeeqa with Azhar and Waleed’s Aqeeqa. But I was really glad to see that Umama and her daughters did not go to the Aqeeqa as a form of retaliation. One of the best scenes of the episode for me was Atiqa and Umama’s conversation. Atiqa was trying to console Umama and was telling her to be patient and be thankful to God for whatever he has bestowed on you because there are a lot of people in the world who are not blessed with a single child. It is easy to advice someone to be patient in such a situation but very hard to implement. (rockstarjackets.com)

Umama is slowly realizing that she made a huge mistake giving Soha to Rehana because her sacrifice did not bear any fruit. Murad still got married again and she was not able to make a place in her mother in law’s heart either. Umama is still tolerating all the injustice done to her but for how long? She is on the verge of a mental breakdown and her anger and frustration is now visible to her daughters and it will also affect their lives. Will the situation ever get better for Umama?

Meher Bano was the star of this episode! I have no words after seeing her wonderful performance in this episode. The pain and emotional trauma was depicted perfectly by her. Her expressions, dialogue delivery and timing were just perfect!

Do keep watching this wonderful show!

Daagh Episode 16 – The Annoying Obedience!

0

We saw new twists and turns in this episode. Amazing performances by Sana Askari and Meher Bano! They both have played their roles brilliantly and it gets better with each episode. Fahad Mustafa was also superb as usual! Deeba has made every possible attempt to make Umama’s life miserable and Umama stands her rude behavior and cruelty silently to maintain the peace in the house. Umama’s never ending patience and obedient behavior seems surreal at times. Does people like Umama still exists in our society? She is fulfilling all the demands of Deeba without uttering a single word or complaining. Umama’s over obedient nature is managing to irk me now!

Aqeela’s behavior towards Umama has changed yet again. Deeba has won her over yet again through the means of her money. Deeba is also trying to win over Murad by her money. She just cannot stand Umama helping him during his financial crises and she herself gave him 35 lakhs. That’s a lot of money! Murad is completely in debt now and is grateful to Deeba for her help. Now he is bound by the debt and has to stand Deeba’s rude behavior towards him and his family quietly. However, he cannot stand Deeba’s rude behavior with his daughters and I was glad to see that he still speaks up against Deeba when she mistreats them. Umama seems happy and satisfied that Murad always protect his daughters. Umama does not speak up for her own rights but when it comes to her daughters she always speaks up.

Aqeela’s sudden change in attitude towards Deeba was a complete disappointment. She immediately forgave Deeba for all her rude words and treatment when she helped Murad financially. She does not even feel ashamed to ask Umama to do all of Deeba’s chores. Umama is practically treated like a servant in the house and Murad never notices or cares. Deeba ordered Umama to pick up all the dishes when her friends came and Umama did everything quietly. How pathetic!

Umama was seen at the constant beck and call of Deeba when she was expecting. Her burden further increased as she had to fulfill every demand of Deeba at the behest of her mother in law. Deeba did not lift a finger and Umama was seen looking after everybody. Murad is tired of Deeba’s rude behavior but his hands are bound by the debt and by his wish for a son. Will Murad’s attitude towards his daughters change when he gets a son? Will he able to do justice with Umama and her daughters? How long will Umama be able to stand this treatment from everybody in the house? So many questions need to be answered. Hope we get all the answers soon.

The highlight of the episode was the father daughter bonding. Murad still loves his daughters and it was a delight to see him spending some quality time with them. I personally love his eldest daughter. She is so mature for her age. She takes care of everybody around her; her younger sisters, her mother and father as well as her Dadi. Umama’s upbringing reflects in her behavior. Her acting is superb! It is really not easy to make a child artist act unless there is natural talent in them and this young girl has a lot of talent. It is refreshing to see new faces of child artists as it was tiring to see the old faces in every other serial.

The drama is nearing towards its end. I am eagerly waiting to see what happens next in this serial! Will things get worse for Umama now? Will she lose Murad’s support too?

Daagh Episode 15- Guilt and Regret!

0

A superb episode! One of the best episodes of Daagh so far! Meher Bano has given a spectacular performance once again. Her silence spoke louder than words. Her pain reflected in her eyes and it was evident to the viewers. But the star of the episode was Sana Askari. She has played Deeba’s character to perfection. The rapid change in Deeba’s behavior has been depicted brilliantly by her. We saw a totally new Deeba in this episode that is spoiled, selfish and ill mannered. She can go to any extent to get what she wants. She wanted Murad in her life and she did everything in her power to get married to him. She has every intention to take revenge from Umama for stealing Murad from her. Frankly, she seems mentally unstable to me because of the way she behaves.

A total disappointment in this episode was Murad. He needs to speak up! How can he let Deeba humiliate Umama? I cannot believe he is the same Murad who moved heaven and earth just to get married to Umama. Deeba badly insulted Umama and practically kicked her out of her own room and Murad did not say a word to Deeba. He also watched her rude behavior with his children quietly and only spoke up when Deeba slapped his daughter. It was the best scene of the episode when Murad screamed at Deeba for misbehaving with his children. Umama was happy to see that Murad still loves his children and stood up for them. But her happiness was short lived as Atiqa asked her if he would be behaving the same way when he gets a son from Deeba.

Murad is angry at her mother for getting him into this mess. But I personally think Murad and his mother both are at fault. Murad knew what he was doing and now he is stuck with Deeba. He cannot even think of divorcing her because Deeba’s clever mother had kept 25 lakhs as Mehr and Murad can never pay such a huge amount.

Another heartwarming scene was when Umama was leaving her father’s house. She had never gotten a proper rukhsati on her wedding but this scene seemed as a compensation for it. Umama’s father apologized to Murad for his behavior and thanked Murad for taking such good care of Umama. There was only guilt on Murad’s face as he knew he did not deserve the thanks after what he had done to Umama.
Umama’s cries made my heart go out to her. She had the flashbacks of all the promises Murad had made to her and she kept on thinking what a fool she was to believe them. I was happy to see that Murad went to Umama despite Deeba’s disapproval and anger. He clearly told Deeba that she cannot stop him from going to his first wife. Way to go Murad! I doubt Murad will ever learn to love Deeba. He can barely stand her at this point. Fahad Mustafa has done a brilliant job as Murad!

Aqeela has finally started to value Umama and for the first time I saw her showing love towards her granddaughters. She has stopped taunting Umama and started appreciating everything she does for the house. She has finally seen Deeba’s true face and cannot help but regret her decision. Deeba’s behavior with her is completely unacceptable. I have a really strong feeling Deeba will start scheming again to win over Murad. She will follow her mother’s advice and start behaving differently. She has already made Umama’s life hell; now we have to wait to see as to what extent she can go to further humiliate Umama. Let’s see what her next plan would be!

Daagh Episode 14 – Tit for Tat

0

‘You reap what you sow’
This quote applies to Aqeela in this show. She forced her son to marry Deeba and now she is suffering from the consequences of her haste decision. The Deeba she loved and who had always held a very high opinion in her eyes has finally showed her true colors. She is not the same Deeba who is constantly working and looking after everybody. That was all a facade to win Aqeela and Murad over so that she could get married to Murad and when she was successful in her mission, she started showing her true face.
The whole episode was based on the change seen in Deeba’s attitude. The very first morning after her marriage she started treating Rehana like her servant and when Rehana went back to her house, she treated her mother in law in the same way. Her treatment with Aqeela is rude and disrespectful and Aqeela couldn’t help but compare Deeba and Emama. Emama had always been compliant and respectful, despite her mother in laws’ taunts and harsh treatments towards her. I did not feel an ounce of pity for Aqeela when she was seen crying as she was left all alone in the house when Deeba and Murad had gone out for dinner. She has ruined Emama’s life and now her life has become miserable.
Emama does not want to return to Murad’s house but Atiqa talks some sense into her. I loved the bonding of the two sisters in this episode. Atiqa encouraged Emama to stand up for her rights and not to let go of Murad so easily. She is the first wife of Murad and will always have a higher position than Deeba in Murad’s house. It’s about time and Emama should stand up for her rights and speak up against the treatment she has been given so far in Murad’s house. Another heartwarming scene was when Emama introduced her daughters to her father and their adorable bonding was a treat to watch. Emama’s father is giving them the love that he was never able to give to her own daughters. I am glad that her father has finally realized his mistake after so many years. As the saying goes ‘Better late than never’
I was completely disappointed in Murad in today’s episode. His attitude was inexcusable. First he let Deeba take over his and Emama’s bedroom and when his mother told him to bring Emama back; he was not willing to bring her back. How can he be upset with Emama after what he did to her? I cannot believe this is the same Murad who loved Emama so much and could do anything for her. Atiqa was absolutely right when she said that Murad is worse than their father. At least he did not marry again by making his daughters an excuse. Emama’s father always desired a son but he still fulfilled his responsibilities towards his daughters. Murad did, however went to pick Emama from her father’s house. I could not help but notice the invisible wall standing between both of them. Both were reluctant to speak to each other as they had nothing to say to each other. Murad should be guilty but instead we saw a different Murad altogether. I am sure Emama will go back to Murad’s house now for the sake of her daughters but will Murad behave the same way with her as before? I am sure about one thing though, he would never be happy with Deeba after living with Emama for so many years. Emama is a caring and self less person while Deeba is selfish and cunning. The contrast between their personalities is too stark and Murad and Aqeela are slowly noticing it.
Deeba is also seen scheming again. She wants to make Emama jealous and this is the reason why she told Murad to bring her back to the house. Will Murad ever speak up and stop Deeba? Will Deeba create more problems for her and her daughters? What will happen if she gives birth to a son? A lot of questions need to be answered.
Overall, it was a very entertaining episode. I was hooked till the end. Mehar Bano, Fahad Mustafa, Sana Askari and Shama Askari all have performed brilliantly. I am eagerly waiting for the next episode now!

Daagh Episode 13 – Heart wrenching Episode!

0

I have only one word for the episode: Heart wrenching!
This episode completely belongs to Mehar Bano. I was completely taken aback by her brilliant performance when she entered the house and saw her husband getting married. Her screams tore through everyone’s heart and I had tears in my eyes during this scene. Only a handful of actors have the power to make viewers cry, and I did not expect Mehar to act so well in her very first serial. Kudos to her!
Murad has finally given into her mothers’ pressure and agreed to marry Deeba. Her mother’s constant emotional blackmailing and demand for a grandson made him take this huge decision. A moment of weakness made him take such a big step which shattered Emama’s trust and belief in him. It was crude of him to marry without Emama’s consent. He did not even bother to inform her about his second marriage. His second marriage came as a very huge shock to Emama as he had promised her that he would never marry for a second time. He has now promised Emama that he would love her and her daughters like before and nothing will change, but the question is: Will he be able to keep his promise?
It is evident that he has no feelings for Deeba but his attitude towards her has changed drastically. Previously, he could not stand her cooking for him or taking care of him and he had only one feeling for her; annoyance. Now he is polite to her and appreciates her for taking care of him and her daughters. Even when he is with Deeba, he cannot help but think about Emama. He is feeling guilty but at the same time, his hands are bound by his need for a son and the demands of his mother.
Rehana was a total disappointment in this episode. She should have taken a stand for Emama and should have tried harder to stop this wedding. Emama has done so much for her, she had given her the most precious thing; her daughter Soha. It was useless to talk to her mother but she could have tried to put some sense in Murad. Rehana’s mother in law is still not ready to accept Soha as her grandchild. Her attitude towards Soha is completely unacceptable.
On the bright side, I was extremely glad to see the changed attitude of Emama’s father. He has finally realized what a blessing it is to have daughters and how wrong he was to think of them as a burden all his life. I really liked this dialogue spoken by him:
‘Yeh betiyaan na hoti to yeh duniya veraan hojati’ How true!
He also asks Emama if she is really happy with Murad as her eyes tell a different story altogether. She quickly managed to make an excuse and change the topic. Murad’s attitude is far from polite towards her. His sudden coldness is making Emama disturbed and upset as Murad has always been polite and loving towards her. Her father also advised Emama to never treat her daughters like he did. He believes that Murad is a very different person and his mentality would be different from his. I could not help but think how wrong he is!
I was also surprised to see Emama’s eldest daughter. She is way too mature for her age. She looks after all her sisters so well and talks and thinks like a grownup. She respects her Dadi even though her attitude is cold towards her. Emama’s upbringing reflects in her daughter’s behavior and attitude.
Emama has decided to leave Murad’s house and go back to live with her father. Emama’s anger is completely justified. It was wrong of Murad to take Emama for granted and not even bother to take her consent before getting married. I do not think she will be able to stay angry or upset with Murad for long though. Murad’s mother has a very high opinion of Deeba but I have a feeling her true face will be out in front of her very soon and that is when she will realize Emama’s importance. I am eagerly waiting for the next episode now. Will Murad be able to convince Emama to come back once Emama’s anger subsides?

Daagh – An Overview

0

Daagh is another hit given by Sarmat Khoosat! The cast has notable stars like Fahad Mustafa, Sana Askari, Shama Askari, Yusra Rizvi, Firdous Jamal and the female lead Mehar Bano, who is a newcomer. Every actor in this show has played their character to perfection. Each character has its own story and we can see the characters evolve overtime. The flow and pace of the show is pretty smooth which makes the show more intriguing. The light touch of the melodious title song also adds life to the emotionally heavy scenes and makes it more interesting to the viewers.

This drama reflects a social issue still very common in our society nowadays. It is disheartening to see that people still have such orthodox views about having daughters and not sons. It is a modern world and such views should be eradicated from society as daughters are no less than sons in the era.

The promos of this show did not look promising as it seemed like the ‘same old story’ about how shameful it is considered in our society to have no sons and only daughters. For some people in our society, daughters are considered a huge responsibility and are condemned. The whole blame of producing daughter also goes to the mother’s shoulders. It is saddening to see that such people still exist in our society who put all the blame on the woman.

This drama revolves around Murad played by Fahad Mustafa and Emama played by Mehar Bano who met in university and fell in love. Emama’s father is shown as a stern man who has no love for his three daughters as he considers them a huge burden. He is completely against the marriage as he wanted to get Emama married to his sister’s son, Mushtaq and thinks that Emama has marred his reputation by marrying Murad whom she ‘supposedly’ had a fling in the university. He breaks all ties with her after her marriage. Murad’s mother is not happy at first with Murad’s marriage as she also wanted him to marry her sister’s daughter Deeba (played by Sana Askari) who has always been in love with Murad, but accepts Emama for her son’s happiness.
Emama has only one fear in her life and that is of having daughters as she has seen her father’s attitude towards her mother and incessant taunts all her life, for not being able to produce a son. Murad was a huge support to Emama at first and assured her that he would never change his attitude towards her for having daughters. But after 9 years and four daughters, we saw a different Murad altogether. Suddenly, all he worries about is the huge responsibility of his daughters. He does not blame Emama or demean her in anyway but his attitude towards his daughters is far from affectionate. Emama’s mother in laws’ attitude is very cold towards her and her daughters and her verbal taunts and constant reminders of her worthlessness have no end. The only member of the family who is polite to Emama and her daughters is Rehana, Murad’s elder sister. She had helped Emama and given her courage at every step. The only problem in her life is the lack of children. And that is why when she asked Murad and Emama to give their newborn daughter Soha to her, they agreed. Emama gave her daughter to Rehana with a heavy heart in the hope that this act will make a place for her in her mother in law’s heart. But even after her sacrifice, her mother in law is still adamant on getting Murad married to his cousin Deeba to fulfill her wish of having a grandson. Murad, who has always disliked Deeba refuses but finally gives into the pressure and emotional blackmail done by his mother. His wish for a son makes him give in to his mother’s demand for the second marriage.

You cannot help but pity Emama’s character. First, she saw her father craving for a son and now Murad. She is shown as a timid and introvert woman who bears it all without a word. This quality manages to annoy the viewers at some point. Murad is shown as a supportive husband but turns selfish in a weak moment. Rehana is another positive character in this show while Murad’s mother and his younger sister Noureen are selfish and had made every attempt to make Emama’s life miserable.

To sum it up, this show is a good combination of cast, story, director and screenplay. Although, the story is not new but this show still manages to grab the viewers’ attention. The newcomer Mehar Bano has also done a good for a newcomer and Fahad Mustafa is phenomenal as usual! Sana Askari is seen at her best as Deeba who is in love with her cousin to the point of obsession. This show is definitely worth watching!
