We know that love is already in the air since Aiman Khan and Muneeb Butt are all set to get engaged next year. And this charming couple never fails to surprise us, they both will be seen together again in an upcoming drama named Zindaan. Isn’t that great, it’s always a treat to watch this real life couple go the reel way. And Apart from the couple, Fatima Effendi will also be seen in the lead roles.
Drama Zindaan is a six sigma plus production, directed by Syed Atif Hussain and written by Samina Aijaz. The shooting of the drama has already begun and it will probably go on air after March 2017 on Ary Digitial.
While in conversation with HIP, the director Syed Atif Hussain, revealed a bit about the upcoming serial.
“Zindaan will be a love triangle between Muneeb Butt, Aiman Khan and Fatima Effendi,” stated Hussain. “The story revolves around two sisters who decide to get their kids married once when they are older. With the daughter accepting her mother’s wishes since childhood, we see her heart break when the cousin she was supposed to be betrothed to, falls in love with someone else.”
“It also shows the upper class in our society and how men can get away with marrying someone else, while women continue to suffer,” he concludes.
Zindagi kitni haseen hy’s girl Sajal Ali is now doing a Tvc with rising star Adnan Malik. Sajal Ali is known for her serious & emotional characters. Tvc is directed by Malik as well. Tvc is now too far to be on aired, but it seems like an excellent collaboration.
‘I really enjoyed working with Sajjal’ stated Adnan. Whereas Sajjal talked bout Adnan in the way that he’s a caring director. They left us with the hint that it can be a tea brand or something like that. End it up on an optimistic note that viewers will adore this first time collaboration! We really hope the commercial manages to deliver socially charged duration!
The founder of Band ‘Junoon’ and a brilliant musician Salman Ahmad has been invited to the US by the Academy Award winning rock singer, Melissa Etheridgehe.
Salman and Melissa together have earlier co-written the song ‘Ring the Bells’ which Melissa featured in her 2008 album Merry Christmas. She has also written the introduction to Salman Ahmed’s book Rock & Roll Jihad. Seems like their bond is still going strong and Salman is very soon going to make the country proud again.

This episode focused on the mixed emotions which Sikandar and Nida felt because of their peculiar circumstances. Nida felt it was time for her to tell Sikandar that she was engaged before Sikandar declared his love for her in front of everyone. I feel like the viewers needed to know a little bit more about what was going on in Nida’s mind when she started feeling this attraction towards Sikandar instead of hearing it all right now. This latest development wouldn’t have seemed like an isolated event if that was the case. Tonight the viewers found out how Nida felt about her connection with Sikandar and we also learned what was going on in Sikandar’s mind. Sikandar’s dialogues about Nida’s engagement said a great deal about what he thought about relationships which were forced on people and also those which people chose to be in. The chemistry between Adnan Malik and Sanam Saeed had been making their scenes work till now but these recent developments required a lot more from the actors involved and unfortunately in most of the scenes it seemed like they were just reading the dialogues with some expressions. These dialogues needed to come from the heart because the situations in tonight’s episode were extremely emotional. The toota huva sitara scene in particular could have been much more cute if Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik’s acting wasn’t so forced. Also, it would have been nice if duppata would have been a part of Nida’s dressing at all times since she comes from a conservative background and is not irresponsible. Nida and Sikandar’s scenes did not fall completely flat because of the locations, the dialogues and also because these two actors look together good on screen, other than that their dialogue delivery, body language and even the timing of some of the reactions left a lot to be desired and took away the emotional energy needed to make these scenes special.
The good thing about this episode was that the focus wasn’t on Nida and Sikandar alone. All the group members were given plenty of screen time too and just like all the previous episodes the scenes covering these people were interesting and easy to connect to. The group has different kinds of people and their scenes together have been shot in a way that people their age group can relate to them and they make other people like myself nostalgic. My most favorite scene of this episode however was the one in which Faseeha presents her husband with the special gift! These two stars manage to make their screens thoroughly entertaining even if they get very little screen time. Their scenes always make you laugh and their timing, chemistry and acting is always faultless. The most funny part was “pehan ke dikhaye”!!
There was little more variety in Shama’s scenes tonight. Most of the times she was thinking about Sikandar but at the same time she was seen doing something new every time. Also, the scene in which she was trying to move her legs went to show that her condition was not permanent. Shama is still wondering why Sikandar never got in touch with her and her mother is relying on Sikandar to tell her that he does not love her. I am waiting to see how Sikandar copes with his situation. So far he has been shown as an escapist, he is not the kind of person who looks for permanent solutions but for temporary ones.
The scenes covering phupo and Zaman suggested that Zaman was probably involved with someone in Karachi or doing something he should not be doing. They also showed that he is only getting married to Nida because that is what his mother wants.
Although Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik both failed to impress in this episode but even then this episode covered a great deal and gave me a reason to tune in next week. Tonight’s episode could have been highly poignant if the actors playing the leading roles were more comfortable with shooting emotional scenes.

There were reports of an upcoming film starring Sadia Khan and Meekal Zulfiqar to release in March 2017. The name of the film is finally revealed and that is ‘THE TRIAL’. The film is going to highlight the 1971 war. It is directed, produced and written by anchor-turned-filmmaker Kamran Shahid.

On one hand, he has strict instructions to maintain a distance from Kulsoom and remain in her ghulaami and on the other he’s expected to keep her in check.
Haroon toh khud ek qaidi hai.. Kulsoom wants to leave and go to her parents home but her family is far too busy milking her newfound darjaat to care about her wants. Nimmo tries to get her to understand that the only way out is through Bilal who’s even willing to go through with murder to free Kulsoom but Kulsoom understands that Haroon is being played and it’s Habibullah who’s manipulating the entire situation..

Habibullah thinks that he can relive his youth and fulfil his romantic fantasies through Kulsoom as she unfortunately happens to be a dead ringer of his ex- a woman he had to leave for the sake of his legacy.
Sensing the slightest tinge of rebellion, he warns Kulsoom that any commotion would result in her finding herself at his complete mercy. Mein sabse ka houn ga ke roohani bemaar hai, Saaya hai… issey ilaaj Ki zaroorat hai… pardon mein chilla hoga, Jahan sirf tum hogi, mein honga, kisi Aur ko aney Ki ijaazat nahin hogi… I’ve seen this in dramas before that corrupt peers exploit women so effortlessly that their own families hand them over for treatment. Does no one reflect for a moment of what sort of treatment takes place behind closed doors when a man and woman are left in seclusion?
Bibi is clearly no longer in control as Habibullah enforced his decision and informed her that he won’t allow anyone to go against his wishes. I’m left wondering if Bibi knew about his ex, had she never come across a photograph? In the earlier episodes, Habibullah would be stalking her profile and even speaking with her and Bibi seemed fully aware yet it’s hard to imagine Bibi never knew that Kulsoom looks like Habibullah’s ex? And if she did, why would Bibi want a reminder of his past in their present? Is Bibi still messing with him ?
Next week’s promo will send some more shockwaves rippling through. Who will save Kulsoom? Will Tahira figure out how her daughter is being victimized? Does she even care?
All over the world, morning shows are conducted because the media of those countries use those morning shows as a way to educate their audience and the viewers who tune to such shows. In the rest of the world, these shows cater to all different age brackets & focus on different issues that different people face but when it comes to Pakistan, morning shows are a completely different story.
Morning shows in Pakistan have become famous for all the wrong reasons. If we look at the morning shows or talk shows of different countries, one thing that we all will find common between the hosts is the ‘education’, not only academic education but also an education based on the knowledge of the subject that they are conducting a show upon, but sadly, in Pakistan, the criteria to become a morning show host is completely different.
To become a morning show host in Pakistan, there are a few pre-requisites that you need to fulfill, which are:
– First, you need to be a woman.
– Second, you should be married, so that you can always wrap the entire show around marriage and its pros and cons, even in those shows where marriage is the last thing that is being discussed.
– Third, you need to have the ability to talk non-stop & nonsensical for hours & hours.
– Fourth, you don’t have to be educated, educated academically or even educated about the subject that you are going to conduct a show upon.
– Fifth, you need to have a body strength of an iron to wear heaviest of dresses in the wee hours of morning.
– Sixth, you need to be confidently stupid so that you can make blunders on a live show and still not care.
– Seventh, you need to have all the misapprehensions about yourself to believe that you are capable of conducting a morning show.
– Eighth, you need to be insensitive (badtameez) to insult general public on their faces, who come as an (paid or unpaid) audience on your show.
– Ninth, you need to have the energy to be able to dance on Bollywood songs in the morning as if it’s your chacha’s shadi.
– Tenth, you need to mistakenly believe in yourself that even after all this gibberish, people still love you!
Now, when the producers find these ‘qualities’, they hire those ladies & let them on the loose thinking they are capable of running a show. No one checks the quality of their shows, no one checks the content of their shows, no one is bothered about what the host is saying or doing, but all that they care about are the ratings that their shows are chipping in. If there is one thing that makes my belief stronger about the fact that the rating system of our country is flawed, it is these morning shows, who rejoice at the ratings they get, because honestly, no one has the patience or the courage to tune to this noise pollution in the early hours of the morning, so not sure what makes them believe they are getting the highest TRP’s.
Now that we have covered the ‘qualities’ that the producers search for in a morning show host, I will now speak about the lessons that the morning shows taught in the year of 2016 because even though it was just in passing that I caught the glimpse of these shows, all these hosts were on the loop about more or less the same topics as if they actually had nothing else to talk about!
1. Every Pakistani woman irrespective of her age should be Size 0:
I don’t remember how many times I have seen the same subject being discussed over & over again. In stead of ‘informing’ people about how they should lead a healthy lifestyle, our morning show hosts along with a handful of dietitians & nutritionists literally shove the idea of being thin down people’s throats as if those who are not size 0 are a lesser human beings. Also, God forbid if a host like Nida Yasir spots someone thickly built in her audience, she won’t stop making fun of their chubby cheeks or eating habits with an insulting tone to prove a point that the woman’s life if basically finished & she has no right to live!
2. Every Pakistani woman needs to go to parlors/clinics:
In every other show, we see a robot named Aliya Farooq with her machines who comes to every single show to flaunt the new machinery she has installed in her parlor/clinic, telling women that their only motive in life should be to visit her & get a facial treatment otherwise their life is doomed. Almost in every other morning show, we see different people showing different procedures on randomly picked ladies from the audience, without even considering if those procedures will be suitable for their skin type or not. Then they flaunt the before & after shots & I tell you, the difference is equal to a difference you see in your hands after a single hand-wash, ahem!!!
3. Every Pakistani woman needs a porcelain skin:
Another fixation our morning show hosts have is with a crystal clear skin where they show different todkas underlining the importance of having a spotless skin, where the host doesn’t forget to emphasize on the fact that every girl needs to have a clear skin especially before her family is expecting some guests for her rishta, yep, seriously! Every other host endorses the idea that if you are not blessed with a clean & spotless skin, you have no right to be alive because hey, who is going to look at your inner beauty, as everyone will be as shallow as these morning show hosts to judge you on the basis of your outer covering!
4. Every Pakistani woman should be fair:
While the entire goras of the world are investing so much of money on a daily basis on self-tanners or spray tans, our morning show hosts are instilling the idea in the viewers heads that they have to have a lighter skin tone by hook or by crook otherwise they won’t be deemed as beautiful. From procedures to lighter foundations to desi todkas, each & every aspect is conveyed with an intent of teaching women how they should look fair because that’s the only complexion that will earn them a bucket load of respect!
5. Every Pakistani woman needs Botox & fillers in her life & then should know how to deny the rumors:
In every other morning show, we see celebrities whose faces have changed considerably over the years, like Fizza Ali, Sadia Imam, Mishi Khan, Nadia Hussain etc, but some blame their pregnancy & some point-blank refuse that they got their faces botched up in a pursuit of looking beautiful. In some of the shows, lip augmentation is showcased which the hosts promote saying so what if Allah has created you like that, you can always improve by being discontent with Allah’s creation & by letting your insecurities get the better of you!
6. Every Pakistani woman needs Oriental Foundation Stick in her life:
Yes, the importance of makeup is also very much emphasized on our morning shows, where in the beginning they show you some ladies from their audience, literally implying that they are looking like clowns with a bad makeup later to introduce their celebrity makeup artist guest, with Oriental Foundation Stick in his/her hands, trying to show that this is ‘har marz ki dawa’ & every single Pakistani woman should run & grab it ASAP! In stead of telling people that makeup is just an expression of yourself, it is just an art, they actually force you to believe that this is what you need in your life, otherwise you won’t score yourself a good rishta!!!
7. Every Pakistani woman needs hair extensions in her life:
The focus on outer beauty is being so emphasized upon in our morning shows that it feels that their only motive in life is to turn everyone into a clone & make them look artificial. Different sorts of tablets are promoted, different sorts of medicated products are promoted which ensure the hair growth, while completely hiding the fact that these sort of supplements affect a human body in worse way possible too. Hair extensions are so highly spoken about as if they are as necessary as having food in your life!
8. Playing hideous games is an expression of happiness & entertainment:
Yes, we all are well aware of the ‘games’ that the guests or even the audience are made to play to fill up the time of the show, which may as well include blowing a chewing gum while answering questions, adorning the bakras in Eid shows, putting a lipstick on each other or like shown below, brushing someone’s teeth!
9. Every woman belonging to the Media is a Super-Woman:
There won’t be a day when you won’t see either Ambar, Kiran, Nadia Hussain, Javeria, Binita & a dozen more who have all the time in their lives to be on the morning shows every single day, speaking about how super-womanly they are, where they won’t stop praising themselves for all the wonders they do & how the entire Pakistan is only running because of them being a part of it!
10. Every Pakistani woman should spy on her husband:
Yes, there won’t go a few days without a show where marital problems will be discussed or marriage on its own will be made fun of. A few hosts won’t stop discussing how oh-so amazing their married life is whereas the others won’t stop telling how they check their husband’s cellphones because they are insecure beings!
11. How exemplary newly wedded Media couples are:
Every couple in the media is the best couple on the face of the earth, while the others were just created by fluke & do not contribute towards the society. They make sure these ‘actors’ put up an act about how oh-so in love they are & how oh-so perfect their life is, fooling people to believe that things won’t be different when the cameras turn off!!!
12. How all the Media couples pro-create:
Every other day, they would invite the couples from the media who have had a child recently & then the details they will push them to discuss will be gruesome starting from their cravings to their hormones. Then they get another content idea that right after some time when those kids will turn 1 or 2, they will celebrate their birthdays.
Yes, these are the topics that you will only see being discussed & dissected time & again on our morning shows as if there is nothing more to life than this. Women already are so hard on themselves, to a point where every woman, every single day of her life feels insecure about herself, her body or her overall personality & then come these morning show hosts who are shallow to the core, who push these insecurities & complexes more & rub these non-issues or first world problems on everyone’s faces. It’s been such a long time that I have not seen a morning show which focused on empowering women. I have not seen a show which focused on telling woman that irrespective of any color, shape or size, no matter what, they are beautiful. I have not seen any show where the morning show host has taught women to be confident. I have not seen a show where a morning show host has told women that they need to be comfortable in their own skin. Woman are always so hard on themselves, they constantly judge their own-self, they constantly feel the need to improve, then we see these morning show hosts who have no personality whatsoever, take a seat in the morning & brain-feed women into believing that they will only be respected if they will look a certain way. In stead of breaking the standards & the norms that the society has set for women, our morning show hosts endorse those ideas because for them ‘looking good’ should be the only motive of a woman’s life.
I have time & again seen how these morning show hosts bring in the celebrities as an example & then tell the the regular women in their audience from all walks of life that they need to look like these celebrities, while completely missing the point that their job is to look good because they make a living out of it. Celebrities also make sure to announce how much they take care of themselves because let’s face it, they only have one particular thing to focus on in their lives. It is sickening, it is absolutely sickening how these morning show hosts put Celebrities & Regular women on the same pedestal & think they are being fair in their judgement. One fine day, I happened to watch a show in which Sadia Imam was invited to share her ‘beauty tips’ & she ended up saying ‘hum log apni skin aur baal bechtay hain, to hamain iska khayal rakhna zaroori hai’, yes, no exaggerations there, she said it, she herself endorsed the fact that Celebrities need to look good because they make money out of it, so what makes these morning show hosts believe that regular women can compete & should look up to celebrities as their role models & follow their footsteps as if they have nothing else or better for that matter, to do, in their lives?
We have time & again spoken against these morning shows & it is absolutely sad that even after getting the feedback from the social media, in stead of improving their content these morning show hosts continue to commit the same mistakes over & over again. They choose not to educate themselves to improve the standards of their show. It is ironic that where these hosts put women under scrutiny for not following the basic standards that have been set by the society for them, they do not put “””themselves””” under scrutiny to see if they are doing good or not? They do not reflect upon themselves if they are doing justice to the platform that they have or not? They do not think selflessly about the people they are so called ‘teaching’ the importance of these things in life. It is actually quite sad to see the constant reminders to the women that if they are not striving to look a certain way, they are failing miserably in their lives. I wish one fine day, I get to see a complete change in the format of these shows where every host talks about woman empowerment based on real deals & not superficial things like skin, hair, weight or fairness. These morning show hosts should live in their bubbles & leave their female audience alone because everyone has better things to do, everyone has different priorities in their lives & last but definitely not the least, each & every single woman is beautiful in her own beautiful way!!!

Ohkay so, I think I am running short of words when it comes to praising Sang e Marmar week after week because I don’t think my words will do justice to the hard-work that the entire team of Sang e Marmar has put in to bring this drama to us. This happens to be one such drama that literally takes me into another world & is so captivating that I just love everything about it. I think this drama should be watched by all the drama-makers of Pakistani drama industry with pens & papers in their hands so that they can take notes on how a story should be dramatized. Honestly speaking, Sang e Marmar has set the bar so high & it gives me immense pleasure to be watching & reviewing a drama like this because it is something else.
I love love love how the director is taking the story forward. Even though with a little focus on Saif ur Rehman & Bulbul Khan, we did get to know that things are going to be unfolded pretty soon but I liked this episode for the fact that the focus kept on shifting on everyone else too. The director is taking his sweet time in revealing things, it is like teasing the viewers by showing a little bit of what they want to see & then shifting the focus on something entirely different which is just as convincing & just as captivating as the truth that Saif ur Rehman is yearning to find out. Even though this episode started off at a note where we saw Saif ur Rehman all restless & confused, eager to find out the truth about his sister, so just when I thought that today he will get the answers to all of his questions, he took a backseat & everyone else came into the foreground. I love how the director has maintained a balance between all the characters by giving them equal coverage & how the writer has made all these characters & their situations so strong & interesting, that you don’t really mind seeing each one of them getting a screen time!
Saif ur Rehman finally met Bulbul Khan & honestly speaking, I had such a good laugh at how Bulbul tried to act all innocent, whereas even he knows that Saif ur Rehman is aware of the fact that Bulbul was the one who instigated everything & he is the link that will lead Saif ur Rehman to the truth that he is in search of. Hassan Noman & his timing just can never go wrong & it is amazing how he steals the show in such a limited screen time. Even though in that scene where Saif ur Rehman should’ve been the center of attention, hands down it was Bulbul Khan/Hassan Noman, only because of his flawless acting!
I am so glad that Noman Ejaz was a part of this episode because just seeing him made everything fall into its place. Noman Ejaz’s screen presence is just so strong that he actually made everything look complete. Now that Gulistan Khan has brought Shireen in his home & now that he knows he is relying on her to give him a grandchild, he is trying to make her feel comfortable because all the things that he said about women & wives in general, behind her back were his real feelings & I won’t be surprised if after getting a grandchild, he will leave everything in Saifullah’s hands to come to a decision about his second wife. Right now, Gulistan Khan needs Shireen for something just so important that he is tolerating her by carrying a facade on his face.
Now that Safiullah is showcasing his frustration at Shireen’s addition in his life, I so wish he had mustered up the courage before saying yes to Gulistan Khan & following his orders like a minion. Safiullah can not bring himself to a point where he is ready to treat Shireen as his wife & for that reason, he told Aurang to take her away from him, but I guess things would’ve been far more easier for all of them if Safiullah had manned up a little & had taken a stand in front of his father before this marriage took place because he was entitled to it. The conversation Gulistan & Safiullah had about women & wives in general went to show how Gulistan was ‘teaching’ Safiullah to be a man, because he deems him as his one true successor, that is why Gulistan wants his son Safiullah to follow through his footsteps & become exactly like him so that when he is no more, his son makes sure that the entire household is still running on Gulistan Khan’s ideology.
Sherbano was just looking for a chance to live in her father’s home, that is why she came up with this hideous accusation about Gullalai being interested in Torah Khan, as she has a score to settle with both Torah & Gullalai, so she fabricated this entire story. It was quite interesting to see how Sherbano tried to have a heart-to-heart conversation with Shireen because she knew, this way, she’d not only be able to divide Gullalai & Shireen, but will also be able to use Shireen against Gullalai too. During that conversation, despite knowing that Sherbano can never be ‘this’ sweet, I still felt bad for her & thought of giving her a benefit of doubt because yes, you never know, may be Gohar’s death might have taken a toll on her mind but then I was reminded of the fact that she got married to Torah & turned his life into hell when her brother Gohar was alive, so she is a faulty piece by default & she was only using Gohar’s death to turn herself into a victim, which she is definitely not!

This little conversation said it all. Also, the way Gulistan questioned his wife about Sherbano went to show that even he was aware of what trouble Sherbano could instigate in his house. The way Torah was treated like an outsider went to show that despite knowing what his daughter is capable of, Gulistan still doesn’t want Torah to believe that he is better than her or that he is more a part of Gulistan’s family, than Sherbano. The note at which the episode ended actually was quite unpredictable & like I have said before, this is what the beauty of this script is that the tables are turned at such a time & in such a way when you’re least expecting them to turn. Torah definitely scored a win this time & I am looking forward to see how Gulistan will put an end to this episode that Sherbano has started because he has definitely taken a step in the right direction.
Overall, this episode was beautiful & I can’t remember how many times I had a hearty laugh at all those mean & sarcastic dialogues like ‘ye terhi bohat jaldi ghussal ke takht pe seedhi hone wali hai’, haha. Massive props to the dialogue writer for having such an amazing sense of humor filled with sarcasm & also, props to the director for having a sense of humor too because he actually turns simplest of situations & scenarios into something humorous like Bulbul being dragged towards Saif ur Rehman’s car & Bulbul trying to run away after having his food. Uzma Hassan & Hassan Noman definitely took the crown in this episode with their phenomenal performance. Also, I love how all the actors have elaborated different emotions on screen, like Gulistan Khan’s wife wanting to feel the warmth of his hand on her forehead, but being disappointed when he chose not to fulfill such a sweet little demand of hers. Sania Saeed has perfectly portrayed the feelings & emotions of a wife who loves her husband & has accepted him just the way he is, despite having this disappointed look pasted on her face, which tells a tale of all the sacrifices she has made till date for her husband.
The preview of the next episode suggested that the husbands will be losing their patience with their wives, I am sure Torah’d have his reasons but not sure what will push Safiullah to do such a thing with Shireen. I wish Saif ur Rehman finds the truth as soon as possible because that way, Torah will have to do some explaining & I actually want to see what he will have to say about it! Film Saya e Khuda e Zuljalal which has been in making for past 4 years and delayed several times is finally going to release on 16th of December 2016.The film which is directed by Umair Fazli and produced by Jehan Films and AR Productions explores Pakistan’s history, beginning from its Independence in 1947 up to the present day. It is written by Tauseef Razaque and Inam Qadri. The film has been supported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and Pakistan Air Force, and is surely going to have lots of patriotism to look forward to.
The cast includes Javed Sheikh, Firdous Jamal, Moammar Rana, Sohail Sameer, Arbaaz Khan, Kamran Mujahid, Asad Malik, Rambo, Nayyar Ejaz, Shafqat Cheema, Noor Bukhari, Umar Cheema and Nimra Khan in lead roles.
Umer Shareef is Pakistan’s leading Stand up Comedian and is known as “King of Comdey”. He’s not just famous in Pakistan but in whole South Asia. He became one of the best-known stage performers in Pakistan after his extremely popular 1989 comedy stage plays Bakra Qistoon Pay and Buddha Ghar Pe Hai. He since then has managed to form a huge fan following over the years and has won numerous awards too. His play Bakra Qistoon Pay had influenced Pakistan’s typical style of stage plays. So All the fans of Comedy and Umer Sharif can rejoice, because he will now be seen making comeback with The Umer Shareef Show but this time the show will be airing on News One.
Hip revealed, the show is still in its shooting process and will air earlier next year, every weekend at 11 pm. The format will be quite the same as before.
The journey of Aab-e-Hayat came to an end this Sunday. As many die-hard fans of Peer-e-Kamil (saw), I too was over the moon about its sequel. But did it satisfy us? Well, that is a tad bit complicated, so let’s break it down. I will try to be as concise as possible, without summarizing the story.
Things We Loved
Like all the other fandoms, the return of our favourite protagonists was the first thing that attracted us. We wanted to see more of Salaar and Imama’s married life and we got what we wished for. Although, sometimes Imama got overboard with her ungratefulness, that was all part of the plan. It was Salaar’sazmaish in the form of his wife’s bad behaviour.
The whole sood (riba/ interest) thing was beautifully integrated within the story. The concept of unlawful earning and its consequences was explicitly presented. Someone like Salaar whose whole carrier revolved around this economic system had to go through immense internal and external struggle to stand up to it.
For me, the best part of the novel was the track of Ghulam Fareed and his family. Their part was perfectly relatable. The way riba was shown destroying lives seemed so painfully real. Ghulam Fareed, a man of average intelligence and meagre resources was driven mad by the devastating fruits of riba. It was touching to see that he came around and let go of his self-inflicted hatred by just seeing how well his daughter was raised by Salaar and his family.
Family bonding was a main highlight of this novel. It is not necessary for a woman to make an outstanding carrier to make her family proud of her. Imama was a perfect example of this. Despite being a house-wife, she was the pride of her husband. She sacrificed a lot in order to support her husband and children which made her the nucleus of her family.
The last episode marked some reunions. I loved the scene between Jibreel and Aisha. Their conversation radiated a deeper understanding of each other’s psyche. The scene reminded me of the relationship between Zaini and Karam from Man-o-Salwa. The air of suffering from the past and the promise of a better tomorrow was encompassing Jibreel and Aisha, just like Zaini and Karam.
Things We Didn’t
For many of the readers, the plot seemed divided into chunks which they couldn’t put together. At times, it was hard to connect the tracks, especially the timeline was all jumbled up. I personally, do not complain about this. Some pieces of art challenge your mind, Aab-e-Hayat attempted the same. Those who are familiar with Umera Ahmed’s writing style will have less to complain about, she has done the same in many of her novels like Aks, La -Hasil and Man-o-Salwa.
The use of superlatives was many a times overwhelming. Ok, we get the point that Salaar and his children had extraordinary brains, facing extraordinary situations, but did it need to be stressed so much? For a piece of writing in which all the other things are subtle (the message about riba, the relationship between characters, the adverse effects of religious hypocrisy) the constant use of ‘zaheen tareen’, ‘azeem tareen’, ‘behtareen’ was a little hard to digest.
The inconsistent pace. Some parts of the story were elaborated in great details, like that of Salaar and Imama’s initial married life. While others seemed rushed and half-cooked. The readers couldn’t connect with Jibreel, Humain, Raeesa and others, as they did not experience their character development properly.
One dimensional characters. Speaking about character development, I felt most of the characters to be categorically black or white. Salaar and his whole family are white, Saad and his whole family are black, so are the US government and the CIA (may be a darker shade even). We know it is a work of fantasy but greying out the characters might have been more realistic and relatable.
Correct me if I missed something, but there was a point that the sniper (the one appointed to assassinate Humain) missing to shoot someone once, despite his expertise. It felt that we will get to know more about this missed chance, but we never heard of it again.
All in all, Aab-e-Hayat was thought-provoking and inspiring but we cannot say that it is the best work of Umera Ahmed. There are many others which were far better conceived and presented than Aab-e-Hayat. Had it been written by someone else, we would have been less critical about it. It is thwarted by the emotional appeal of Man-o-Salwa, the perfectly-knit story of Aks and the sheer, classic brilliance of Peer-e-Kamil (saw). Aab-e-Hayat as a novel has concluded, but in the words of the writer, the challenges of life continue and they are constantly dealt with by new faces and new names.
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder but there are some faces which are so strikingly appealing that everyone finds them attractive. The features alone do not define beauty but how a woman grooms and presents herself is also important because it defines their overall personality. Apart from this, it is very important that beauty should be accompanied with brains as well because beauty without brains is appealing only for some time. This is the reason why we have made sure that all these incredibly beautiful women who are in this list are also gifted with intellect and talent. HIP got in touch with the two handsome leads (Ali Safina and Uzair Jaswal) of the movie and found out what they think about this new initiative.
Uzair Jaswal revealed, “Oye! Kuch Kar Guzar revolves around the taboos of society and how you should follow your heart and do what you aspire to do. It’s linked to a youthful brand, djuice Pakistan. Youth is connected to the internet all the time, so it’s probably the best medium through which we can connect to a mass audience.”
“It’s the first online movie so let’s see how it goes. Despite the risk involved, it looks like a good investment and a step towards the future,” he further added.
Ali Safina had similar views about this new and exciting venture. “It’s a great opportunity! It’s going to be a global thing and will not just be releasing in selected cinemas, in just a number of countries. TV is going to be obsolete and YouTube is the future,” he told HIP

According to PEMRA’s decision against indian content & all Indian stations in Pakitan on all social mediums! All channel holders of Pakistan are quiet hopeful for the betterment of our industry on the opposite side bollywood industry is under pressure of religious extremist who don’t want Pakistani artist in India.But the point i”m gonna mention is about those commercials that goes under our television screens with so called Indian actors and actresses.If we talk about international brands like Pantene,Head &S Shoulders,Loreal paris & if we talk about local brands like Golden pearl,fair & lovely,Lifebuoy,,Master paints,Cola Next,Q-mobile.we can see the Indian actors in commercials of these brands.
Alas! PEMRA has banned Indian stations but who is going to take step on this trend? that will leave our industry with nothing but crisis! do we need more strictness to regulate our agencies to stop the exploitation og or artists, we have really very talented artist community that can beat them on merit.
Shehrnaz is turning out to be an unpredictable play which is so far completely free of clichés. It is not perfect but it is definitely an interesting drama with a different story. It will also prove to be a breath of fresh air for those viewers who need a break from dramas which revolve solely around love stories or the problems faced by married women. Tonight’s episode once again showed another side of Shehrnaz’s character which showed that she could be quite reckless at times to prove a point. Shehrnaz decided to take her rich class fellows for ice-cream only because she wanted to prove a point to them even though she could not afford this outing. In the previous episode she was shown refusing an offer to do a side role because she knew she was destined to be a heroine. Such impulsive decisions by Shehrnaz make her character more human but also make you wonder why the viewers are being shown this side of her character. Something tells me that Shehrnaz’s impulsive decisions might cost her more than she imagined they would.
I must admit that I was expecting Shehrnaz’s father unemployment to be the reason why she would ultimately accept an offer out of necessity more than anything else. I am glad that things took a different turn and Shehrnaz was once again shown pursuing her passion instead of being a part of something only because of financial constraints. Also, the conversation in which she said that she would never ask Sherry for money and later on her response when KK paid for the ice cream clearly showed once again that Shehrnaz might dream about a big house, a big car and fame but she was not materialistic. If she was materialistic she would have accepted KK’s offer or would have appreciated his gifts and such gestures. The best part of Shehrnaz’s personality is that she is not looking for a man to rescue her, she is her own hero. Her over-confidence so far has not hindered her plans but I am really looking forward to how this character shapes up in the upcoming episodes.
Shehrnaz and Sherry’s relationship isn’t getting the screen time it deserved. Their engagement was too sudden and the time after the engagement was not covered properly. The viewers hardly got to see these two interact after the engagement or every time they interacted the scenes carried no weight. Right now this relationship isn’t quite fitting in and I am wondering why this particular track was added to the story. Also, the dynamics of their relationship have not been explored after they actually got to know one another. Sherry conveniently moved on and got engaged to Sara, who is richer and more modern – one cliché in this whole story which could easily have been avoided. Just like every other episode I had a very difficult time relating to Sherry as the most eligible bachelor. Shehrnaz’s relationship with her friend has been translated on screen in a much better way which is why it is much easier connecting to their friendship. It is good to see a woman supporting another for a change instead of plotting and planning against her!
The preview of the next episode showed Shehrnaz winning the competition and Sara rethinking the engagement. I am looking forward to how Shehrnaz’s journey to stardom is covered and how much she changes in the process. This episode like all the previous episodes had some solid performances to its credit. Ayeza Khan and Sajid Hassan are the lifeline of this show.

Sanam is a show that till now couldn’t pick up the pace nor introduced anything interesting. It is getting boring to an extent that we are just completely loosing our interest. Not long but only a few episodes old drama has got the viewers mad. The previous episode had some good bits but seems like the upcoming episode is going to be same.
The OST of the show was so engaging that the audiences were eagerly waiting to see how the story unfolds and not long ago we actually hoped that the story might get better but now the makers have crossed limits of insanity.
1) Our dear Harib fell in love for the third time. We know third time but why?Okay we understand first love was the old one but then falling in love with two girls in such a short span of time is just not working. He falls in love so frequently as if love is on sale and he doesn’t want to miss a single chance to grab it!So ek anar aur 100 bemar opss no Ek Anar aur teen beemar
2) Is khana so important?I mean i literally feel that to the makers it’s more important to focus on food than anything else. Whether it be the anda paratha or the ice cream it surely gets the full coverage. Please For heavens sake we aren’t craving for food nor anda paratha sounds appealing.
3) The most buzzing question,Why is this guy(Harib) so so bechara?This is the question i desperately want to ask to the writer of the drama that what made her think we are going to like seeing someone this bechara who would say nothing but just act so masoom and helpless as if we’re gonna come and help him LOL. Why don’t you stay quite than saying something that has no meaning,where do you actually stand or do you really even have a stand or not!
4) So surprise guys,we now have a new entry and that is Sara. A girl that just seems so unfit in this drama but the makers are trying hard to fix her in. I wonder why was she even needed. They already showed Aila evil and now even Sara is evil so according to the makers every girl Harib every loved was evil,funny isn’t it because seems like Harib was all blind while dating these innocent looking girls.And why does every girls world revolves around Harib?Whats so good about him,well alright we know he looks good but isn’t it quite weird watching every girls live revolving around a same person!
5) Alright so you decided to make the drama interesting with the few supporting roles which were literally created with no common sense. That old zamana relatives who wouldn’t let you live separately…isn’t that something we have been seen in dramas for years. Anything new to offer us?The answer certainly seems no and oh yes how can i forget the new little baby girl Fatima. What are the makers trying to implement by bringing her to the story,she got an extra ordinary coverage in the previous episodes.
Urwa Hocane is a great actor/model and has a massive fan following.She released her first music video today and left us with many questions!The song seems to be heavily auto tuned.Seems like she has now decided to step into the music industry,earlier this year she gave singing a shot and this time she has sung an official song.Urwa looked stunning in the music video and for singing i leave it on you guys to decide.
The music video called “Ao Lay Kar Chaloun” was released by Farhan Saeed on his official YouTube account.The music is directed by Adrian Emmanual and the video is helmed by Parmesh Adiwal.
The pace of these two episodes continued to not disappoint. I found myself interested to see where the story is going for although we do have a fair idea of what will happen I am glad to say that at least the way the events are unfolding is convincing – and interesting – enough.
I was highly sceptical and cringed thinking seriously, is this how predictable and annoying this drama will be when Aina leaves for Islamabad and Imran gives up his mobile phone that they will be unable to get in touch which will lead to misunderstandings ending with disastrous results. I was glad however when Imran learns from Aina’s friend that she has left for a few days and when she returns she goes to the flat and thankfully Imran is home. I can not stress enough how that raised the drama’s worth in my eyes at least for the done to death, no communication ka rasta or Imran leaving the flat to run an errand when Aina arrives would have done my head in. While the drama may not be rid of such clichés later on, I will give credit now for where it is due. I do wonder though at the 1990s style of ‘dumb calls’ when Imran being so rich could have given Aina a mobile phone that he could reach her on. Obviously before he was stripped of his own belongings but even if Aina was all about ‘I am not after your money’, I am sure a simple phone to be able to contact each other would have been a wise idea but oh well.
Aini too surprised me when she announced enough is enough and broke off the engagement. Eyebrows went further up when she said Aina’s family should be paid a visit and I thought, good stuff! But while Aini may think of herself as a competent player so to speak, Imran’s father is the true puppet master and knows when to pull which chords. He knows his son well and knows he will return once left to fend for himself. Seems like Aini is back on board too.
Aina’s fiancé is far from impressed by Aina’s ‘reserve’ and I have to say I really like Faraz’s character where he has been all understanding about Aina’s heartbreak and also encourages her fiancé and her to have a few moments together. It is good to see the writer presenting a male character with a broad mind but a sensible one for either they are too conservative to the point of being manic or there are the truly liberal ones with the fake English accents, huge cigars and drink in hand. Faraz is a character I can really understand and like – till now at least. I also liked how he did not fly off the handle when he came upon Aina and her fiancé and also later how he stresses how Aina is unhappy with this upcoming marriage.
While Huma Nawab’s acting leaves a bit to be desired, her character does pinch at my heart especially when she says how Imran is not worthy of Aina and his parents refused to come and take her ‘izzat se’. I am glad to see a level headed sensible family that cares about each other and is not out to manipulate each other which is why Aina’s actions seem even more, deplorable for lack of a better word not because I am judging her for marrying against her family wishes but for pulling the wool over her mother’s eyes who has trusted her and devoted her life to her children and even agreed to meet Imran’s parents. I keep repeating that I know, but while Aina is worried now it is because the fiance’s family wants to move ahead with the wedding not how she has let her mother, Sajal and Faraz down. I can see why she would not care about Mohsin, LOL.
So Aina from sweet loving Aina is fast becoming Manhoos Aina in Imran’s mind. While it is admirable and definitely much more fascinating when the rich boy leaves his family in the name of love and makes his way in the world, portrayal of a character like Imran has also been very realistically done. It is true that he has never had to worry about a single aana – I could not resist substituting dime with aana with all the Aina-Aini going on, LOL. There is that old saying, when poverty enters the door, love goes out the window. Imran blames Aina for all the hardship coming his way and now that things have been laid out in the open at his end he wants Aina to rush things at her end. I could see how he wanted her to also come clean and move in and while Aina said he could barely fend for himself she did not want to add on her own burden, I felt it was more because she lacked the courage. I wonder why she went ahead with the nikkah anyway and even if she did, then the very obvious would be to sort of avoid starting a family until things had settled between the families? Methinks so! But then all those fainting spells, bar one drama (Teri Chah Mein) – spell out only one thing – a pregnancy! How are the women in our dramas always so clueless that they never realise they are pregnant until they faint?! I would honestly love to know if that has happened to women in real life. Yes the odd few maybe, but routinely?!
There have been a few negative comments regarding Naveen Waqar’s appearance and while I totally get how a certain actor or actress can put you off from watching a drama and I agree that her fringe is distracting, her acting so far has been realistic enough. I feel her despair, I dislike her for being selfish and I find while Aina may end up being the victim, Naveen’s portrayal of the character has been such that you feel the ‘victim’ sort of brought this upon herself. Imran’s character is wishy washy where he grows a backbone and then loses it the way a lizard may lose its tail and grow one back. I am pleasantly surprised at Mirza Zain’s acting and how he seems to be comfortable in his character. Faraz is the only sensible one so far and I hope he has a sensible plan of action rather than letting Aina flit round the streets again trying to sort things out. I like a few dialogues of this drama too especially the scene between Imran’s parents when his father says that why do mothers assume fathers are unfeeling. A father’s stern attitude for the long term benefit of his child can be viewed as unfeeling at times when it is not. While I may not agree with his tactics for bringing Imran back to him or forcing him into a marriage with Aini, I could understand the underlying anger when he wonders how Imran thought he could have fooled his own father. His father is an arrogant man who believes he knows what move to make when and till now things have panned out favourably for him.
Next week’s preview shows Aina paying her in laws a visit and although I suppose Imran and Aini have gone to Dubai to shop, Aina will meet Imran and given the direction he is headed, seems like he has had enough of her. I wonder if Aina’s mother survives the heart attack and what is in store for Aina now. Sorry, no screenshots today as my daughter is a bit poorly. I would love to hear what you all thought of these episodes though and any guesses whether Aina’s pregnancy will bring a change of heart in Imran or will he not be told?
Ohkay so, I hate to say this but Dhaani drama has come to a point where it is becoming hard for me to sit through its episodes. The pace of the drama has slowed down considerably & there is nothing that the drama is offering from the last 4 – 5 episodes. I think the story of the drama was best suited for 16-18 episodes but as usual the habit of stretching the drama has changed the way I used to look at this drama. This is one of the reasons why I procrastinated watching Dhaani because it is getting harder for me to give this drama a go & I am dreading tuning to the next episode of this drama already!
So, Sameer finally landed himself a job & Amjad seems pretty impressed with how Sameer is performing. Sameer has already gotten into Amjad’s good books so I won’t be surprised if after getting to know that Dhaani is the guy Sameer is in love with, Amjad will back off!
The initial part of the episode involved a lot of yelling & screaming which I most certainly can not tolerate. I know it was required to showcase the emotions that everyone in Dhaani’s family is going through when it comes to Sameer, but that’s not something that I sign up for when I tune to a drama, so it was such a put-off for me. Babu Niyaz ended up facing the brunt for giving a place to Sameer to live & the way he pleaded Sameer’s case was actually quite reasonable & rational. It is his home & he is entitled to bring anyone in, as his tenant or as his friend, that is why those who sat together to come to a conclusion about this matter couldn’t really say much as Niyaz had a point!
Raja’s friends attacked Sameer in Raja’s absence, that is why Kaleem couldn’t understand who it was that hurt Sameer & for what reason. Kaleem has zero sympathy for Sameer as he suffered a lot of embarrassment because of him, but I don’t really understand one thing, Kaleem only heard things from Rehan but he never really tried to get to know why Dhaani’s name got involved or linked with Sameer? It is good to know that he trusts his daughter but at least Kaleem should get into the detail of the matter to find out what is it that has forced Sameer to leave everything behind & most importantly who is it that Sameer is doing all this for, because may be that way, he will stop being so rigid towards him & might as well consider getting Dhaani married to someone she is not in love with.
It is actually quite sad to see Dhaani being fizzled out in the background from last so many episodes, like she was the girl who had a personality, had some dreams & had this persona, but it is sad to see her turning into a sobbing-queen whose only motive in life was to fall for a guy & get married to him, because now when things have become shaky and unfavorable, she is seen crying all over the place as if her life has ended!
Overall, this episode was way too slow & was quite boring as well. I really hope they finish this drama off soon & edit out the remaining episodes to fit the ending into the next couple of episodes as these many number of episodes are enough, in fact in my opinion they have exceeded a number that was required to cover a story like this. Pakistan Film Festival New York which is already going to be star studded event just got another huge star in the list,The classic star of Pakistan “Sabiha Khanum”.She will first attend the red carpet event taking place on December 2nd followed by the Film Festival to be held on this weekend in New York.
Sabiha Khanum was the leading actress of Pakistani cinema in the 1950s and 1960s and continued to play award-winning roles for films in the 1980s and 1990s. She also acted in some award-winning television dramas.Most of Sabiha’s movies were with her husband playing the lead role opposite her, the late Santosh Kumar (Syed Musa Raza).They were always regarded as the perfect couple.
Ms Khanum currently resides in USA with her daughter.She will be accompanied by her granddaughter, Sarish Khan, at the Pakistan Film Festival New York.

There’s been growing anticipation for musician Hamza Jafri’s new project, Braadri Broadcast, a compilation of 10 fusion tracks featuring 15 artistes from all over Pakistan.
After a launch event on Monday night, Braadri Orchestra’s first single was released online.The video “Karma Walay” is a fusion of Punjabi folk and Urdu ghazal,featuring vocals by Sarfraz Ali, Akram Khan and Zarnab Rashid and lyrics by Tauqeer Chugtai.The Rest of Braadri Orchestra’s 10 original tracks will release through the course of the next year.
The main composer and music director for the project Bradaari Orchestra is Akram Raja, the videos have been produced by Rola, audio recorded by Bilal Nasir Khan and costumes designed by Yousuf Bashir Qureshi. Hamza’s band member from Co-VEN and Coke Studio percussionist Sikandar Mufti is the tech head and creative associate.Nida Butt is the creative director of the project.
In an earlier interview with Images, Hamza said,“There is all this East-West fusion music happening, but no cross-ethnic fusion. Pakistan has such rich musical traditions from its provinces. It would be amazing to create a fusion between them, such as mixing Punjabi folk with Balochi, Sindhi with Urdu, Pashto with Shina, and so on.”
Ali Zafar who needs no introduction started out on local TV, then also established a career in Bollywood and his success led many Pakistani actors to venture into Bollywood films.He made is debut in Bollywood with film Tere Bin Laden and was nominated for Filmfare Best Male Debut Award.The Singer has now finally signed a local Pakistani Film which is all set to go on floors in early 2017.
In a candid tête-à-tête with Images, Ali dishes on his debut Pakistani feature film, his musical career and why Deosai, which was supposed to be his first Pakistani project, has been shelved for now:
Images: Tell us a little bit about your role in Ahsan Rahim’s next, which is the first Pakistani film you’ve signed. What made you finally take the plunge and do a local film?
Ali Zafar (AZ): I’ve been working towards making a film in the local industry for the last four years. Various subjects, stories and ideas were discussed and developed. And finally our excitement levels skyrocketed on this particular [story] and how it developed.
Ahsan and I have worked very closely and look forward to this hitting the floors for filming come early 2017. I wanted my first Pakistani film to appeal to the dance -party walas and the rickshaw walas alike — a film for everyone. I can’t share much about my specific role as yet.
All I can say is… well, nothing for now! It’s a surprise.
Images: Ahsan has shared that it’s an action comedy. How will you be preparing for the role?
AZ: You can definitely expect a lot of action and comedy from me till the film releases. [I’m] completely immersing myself into the character.
Images: You’ve done a number of Bollywood movies. Share how Dear Zindagi was different and give us some insight into what it was like working with the cast.
AZ: You don’t really get to see many films that are so simple yet so fascinating. I found this to be one of them. The characters are real and so are the emotions. I found it to be something people would be able to relate to in the real sense, especially younger audiences.
Modern storytelling has and should continue to change and I think Dear Zindagi reflects that freshness in the art of storytelling. I also loved how my character was written. Not to mention he was named after one of my favorite poets, Rumi.
Images: You were set to star in your own production, Deosai that has now been shelved. Why did you decide to abandon the project?
AZ: It hasn’t been shelved but rather to be looked at for a later time. It just became too ambitious a film for its expense and too elaborate for the dynamics of our current industry as it required a lot of technical paraphernalia to go and shoot at impossible heights. I also happened to incur an injury in the preparation process.
Meanwhile, my current film with Ahsan Rahim developed as a much more doable and an exciting venture with the perfect fun, feel good script with which to start this journey. I have a passion for positivity, fun, romance and laughter and this film is the perfect reflection of these facets.
Images: Give us an update on your music. Do you have an album in the pipeline or has acting taken priority for the moment?
AZ: Yes, I am also working on my fourth music album. Music will always remain my most intense passion and I am glad I get to keep the passion alive and burning in my movies. Dear Zindagi, for example, has me sing and perform two songs that I love. I hope you like them too.
Images: Your thoughts on the progress of the current film industry?
AZ: I think it’s great to see so many people venturing into film and to see different styles of films under production. Our strength lies in our versatility and diversity. Although we are still at a nascent stage where we need a lot more content to keep our cinemas running, our country is full of talented people just wanting an outlet to put their talent to use and skill set to polish.
They should be given a chance and provided with all the support and infrastructure they need to create, write, direct, produce and act. This is my goal for the future and should be a common goal. Also the culture of being positive and progressive needs to flourish rather than bringing each other down. We should help and support each other.
Learn from each other, discuss ideas and build an industry based on professional and sustainable work ethics so one day the world awaits to see what does Pakistan has to offer next. And we can only do this together.
Ohkay so, finally Aap Ke Liye ended last night & I think it was good that they gave everything a proper closure but again, I feel where the last episode should have given Washma & Shaheer’s relationship some coverage, the entire screen space was taken up by Nishat, which was so unfair, because that lady has literally taken up the entire drama, so at least, they should have left her out in the last episode at least because people didn’t sign up to see ‘her’ journey.
So, Nishat realized that everything slipped away from her hands because her husband left her & even her brother confessed that he knew every single thing that she was upto. Shaheer said all he had in his heart to Nishat because he had to come clean in front of Waheed. Nishat did realize that she hurt Shaheer a great deal but even then she couldn’t stop planning & manipulating Shaheer into saying stuff about Washma in front of Waheed that wasn’t true.
So, finally, Shaheer got to say everything to Nishat on her face as he was eager to tell her that he wasn’t oblivious of what she & her husband did all this while, but one thing that seemed odd was that Shaheer said he knew it right from the beginning, so why didn’t he try to amend the situation with Abeera before meeting Washma, since he knew that Abeera wasn’t at fault? Also, another thing that I found a little off-putting was that if Nishat hadn’t told Shaheer to go to Washma, he wouldn’t have done that? Yes, I do realize that for Shaheer, Nishat was everything but to see him staying silent at her wrongdoings doesn’t put him in a good light too. Anyways, Areesha got some screen time too & it was good to see her tackling the entire situation with a lot of maturity, where she not only went to Washma to plead Shaheer’s case, but also consoled Nishat knowing that she has hit a rock bottom!
Waheed was proud of what he heard from Shaheer about Washma & that’s when he knew that things will be alright. Shaheer finally gave everything a closure, apologized to Abeera & went to Washma to tell her how much he loves her, which was sweet. I so wish they had given us some more moments of Washma & Shaheer in the last episode & also in the overall episodes, because their couple was the best thing about this drama & now when I look back, I feel I didn’t get enough of them!
Overall, this drama was strictly alright, it could’ve been way better if the director or the editors had omitted out the coverage that was being given to Nishat & Imdad because with an influx of negative characters on our screen in the last few years, we already knew what they were going to offer, so there was most certainly NO need for them to be getting so much of screen-time because their characters were one-dimensional & nothing new! I would surely have put this drama on a recommendation list but I won’t, because I will then suggest everyone to forward 80% of the drama as it was filled with Nishat & Imdad & they are not fun to watch, so the viewers won’t have anything left to watch either! The writer commendably wrote such nice characters like Waheed, Maryam, Washma & Shaheer but sadly, this drama seemed more about Nishat, than about Washma which was unfair. When the stories are simple & one-dimensional, it depends solely on the director as to how he executes them to make them memorable but it seems that the director was a fan of Waseem Abbas & Samina Peerzada that he made them the focal point of the drama while completely forgetting about the ‘good things’ that the story had to offer!
There were a few good things that this drama offered which deserve a mention too. First & foremost, the character of Washma, it was good to see such a young girl being so confident about herself that she took everyone’s life by storm. Washma entered the marriage with Shaheer for the sake of adventure but it was her love for him that pushed her to such a limit where she challenged the system that was prevailing in her husband’s personal & professional life. Washma surely made this drama worthwhile. It was also good to see Shaheer transitioning from a very rigid person to someone who learned to go with the flow because Washma introduced him to a new perspective of how one can life their lives. It was equally appeasing to see such a strong & positive bond between a Nand & Bhabhi, because it is a rarity in our dramas. Yes, Washma & Maryam both had a fair share of cat fights with each other but it was also a reflection of how much they loved each other. Maryam empowered Washma every step of the way. Maryam challenged Washma & pushed her to the limit & it was actually because of Maryam that Washma got the courage to face the obstacles. It was equally amazing to see Waheed supporting his sister through thick & thin because he had his blind trust in his sister which was also refreshing to see. Waheed was an unconventional sort of a brother who didn’t deal with his sister by keeping his ego intact, he trusted her, he knew his sister won’t do anything wrong that is why he took matters in his hands as he knew that for the most part of it, his sister wouldn’t be wrong. Then comes the relationship of Washma & Shaheer, which was so unique, created at a spur of a moment but changed their lives & would last forever because they both began to love each other & accepted each other with all their faults & shortcomings. I so wish, I so so so wish we had gotten some more insight into their relationship because now when the drama has ended, it just doesn’t seem enough. I tuned to the last episode of this drama all excited thinking Washma & Shaheer will have some beautiful moments to share, only to find out that they were spotted together in the last minute of the entire 40 minute episode!?!?!?! Anyways!
The director surely needs someone to teach him how to keep a steady hand while directing a drama, as the way the camera moved actually made it quite tiresome to watch Aap Ke Liye. The entire bokeh effect that the director added as a wow-factor was an epic fail too, because most of the times I felt like touching the TV & removing that white cast off my screen manually to get some clear visibility of the frame as it was so very annoying. Faysal Qureshi & Arif Fatima’s acting was brilliant, so was Saife Hassan’s & Salma’s. Samina Peerzada ruined this drama for me & traumatized me for a long long time because it was hard to keep up with her expressions as most of the times I ended up having a headache. Waseem Abbas needs to get rid of that wig & that ugly beige silky night suit ASAP. It was no fun to watch such experienced actors overacting so much as if they had a point to prove that they know how to act, like we have been watching you guys since childhood so we know you guys can act, so there most certainly was no need to overdo anything!!!

After having binge watched seven episodes, this one was obviously a bit slow for me but I am not complaining for it focused on the events unfolding in Urwah and Ameena’s lives after the wedding, but sadly not together. While I had earlier been critical of Ameena’s character and it being a bit far from reality to be normal, I could relate to her today although the preview for next week shows that the loud wailing might be back.
Ameena finds comfort in the form of Aisha Baji which is why she was so upset at her leaving. I have to say Aisha Baji is a breath of fresh air from the negative nands and it was nice to see her trying to help Ameena settle in and understand the importance or rather, position of Urwah in her life. I did feel bad for Ameena though when in her few moments of reflection when she sees Urwah’s picture all she can remember is the moment on her wedding night when he angrily tries to stop her from making noise. All he has done is fret and frown so I can not blame her for being relieved he is gone. Ameena is immature but it is not mere immaturity that makes her behave the way she is and that is the thing that bothers me. For she does not seem extremely simple minded either – or maybe she is. I am still waiting to find out. After her wedding while she is not heavily adorned or made up yet she is making an effort with the make up and jewellery. But I felt for the young girl who found herself suddenly sleeping alone in a new place, and the way she asked her Taayi for an ‘om-late’ was actually quite natural and funny.
While not evil yet, Taayi is not exactly warm. She was not approving of the match yet anyway and I understand her reasons especially since Urwah is far from happy too. She is disapproving of Ameena’s way as I expect any mother in law would be but I suppose we need to give that track time to develop for so far Ameena takes her criticism well and listens to her. I love Taaya’s role where he asks his wife to think of Ameena as her daughter and also how he speaks to her about going back to school. Ameena’s simplicity was actually touching when she laughed at the idea of going back to school now that she is married like she has a label attached to her now and that does not enable her to go back to school.
Urwah has fled back to university and well, not exactly back to Azra. He hides the news of his wedding from all and I was glad to see Sohail was actually upset that he had not confided in him. However, the way he is he takes it in his stride telling him to keep it to himself but the scene between the two and Azra in the cafeteria later makes me think he will not let a single opportunity pass to make Urwah uncomfortable that Sohail knows his secret. I am not sure whether Urwah has decided to not tell Azra for he fears he will be ridiculed or also because deep down he is not ready to let her go completely. Yes, he made the speech of ‘we are from different worlds’ and all that but I do not think he believes it completely. Also, I am finding it really hard to understand Azra’s fascination with Urwah. If she was the creepy, I-must- have- this- guy- who- does- not- seem- too- interested- in- me sort, phir bhi samajh mein aata. She seems fairly normal so just because Urwah is shareef and respects women which for her is a rarity, but then it can not be that much of a rarity that she overlooks the very obvious differences in their mindsets. But then love is blind and all that.
While I understand that Urwah was tricked into coming back so he fled the first chance he got and also that there is the undealt matter of Azra, I do wish Azra ko jaldi nibat shibat kar he comes back so his story with Ameena can actually begin. I wonder how things pan out between him and Azra and how Ameena deals with the challenges of settling in with her Taya’s family and going back to school. What is really working for me in this drama so far is the absence of a truly negative character who has no goal, no aim in life except to cause havoc and misery in the main couple’s life. Iqra Aziz acting was toned down a bit in this episode and actually made me feel for her more. While I still wince at the over –immaturity (is that even a word), I do commend her for trying to get into her character where her body language and the way she sits and jumps up off the bed is far from ladylike, LOL. Shahzad Sheikh’s acting is consistently good. His expressions when he learns that his father knows about him meeting Azra were spot on and I love the attention to detail his character demands such as the huge trainers, the tucked in shirt, the stiff, awkward demeanour. I also like how the director has not relied on painted sets or backgrounds and the scenes where the green open lands and small town life was shown I could almost feel the crisp air and the modern university building scenes were equally appealing. Does anyone know which building/university this is by any chance?
Choti Si Zindagi is working for me as my Tuesday drama fix and am looking forward to see how Urwah and Ameena deal with this new phase of their lives – as individuals and as a couple together. What did you all think of this episode? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Salute (سیلوٹ) Salute is directed and produced by Shahzad Rafique a famous director/producer from Lahore. Shahzad Rafique has some successful Urdu/Punjabi films to his credit like Ghoonghat (1995 as producer), Nikaah (1998 as producer), Salakhain (2004 as director), MohabtanSachiyan (Punjabi 2009), IshqKhuda (Punjabi film in 2014 as producer/director).
Salute is based on the real life events of Aitzaz Hassan, a school boy from Hangu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Aitzaz Hassan sacrificed his life to save his fellow schoolmates by stopping a suicide bomber. Salute stars some big names of cinema like Saima Noor and Ajab Gull in the lead roles. Saima Noor and Ajab Gull are appearing as parents of Aitzaz Hassan character. Ali Mohtesham is appearing in the role of Aitzaz Hassan.
Salute has been under production for more than two years and is delayed multiple times. Now finally it is releasing on 2nd December 2016.
Salute also features a song composed by Robin Ghosh (Late), the legendary musician from Bangladesh who composed many immortal melodies for Pakistani cinema.

8969 8969 is a film directed by Azeem Sajjad. Azeem Sajjad is mainly known for his acting in the dramas of PTV Peshawar centre in 1990s. He also directed few dramas for in Pashto and Urdu like Za Pashtoon Yum for Pashto Channel AVT Khyber. 8969 is his first film as a director.

This film comprises of three songs, where one is a sleazy dance number or item number shot on Saba Qamar. Saba Qamar has already described this film as the biggest mistake of her career.

We always prefer covering stories of those who are legends but why not light at the life of a person who lost her life because she decided to have her freedom of choice?Qandeel Baloch the social media sensation who was murdered brutally on July 15 2016.
We all know her real name was Fouzia Azeem,we all know what was her background because that’s what we heard in news right after her death.Most of Pakistan’s community hated her but little did we know she was just A girl who wanted to follow her dreams and live up to her ambitions.Her tragedy is not infamous nor was she because she was famous for all wrong reasons but poor girl was even bashed after getting murdered.Where was the humanity when she was killed at the name of honor and people were happy?Why did so many girls had to die to prove a point that honor killing is wrong and does not justify any fault?
Qandeel did not come from a wealthy, privileged background nor did she have the education and exposure to knowledge but she knew one thing that she wanted to make a name for herself and an identity for herself,so what if she went over board so what if she was wrong but she was a human who had all the rights to live with freedom.She was not willing to live a life of suffocation so she walked out of her marriage and that’s when Fouzia Azeem was laid to rest and Qandeel Baloch was born.In 2015 she became Pakistan’s biggest social media star,who made her the star wasn’t it us?Her Facebook account was at the verge of getting banned,she was threatened to be killed because she was a girl who did not wanted to stop,she wanted to fly but she forgot that she was in Pakistan.Where many others do wrong but only those get bashed who have no support.I accept it is wrong to leave your child and chase your dreams but don’t we all want to be free,don’t we all want to live our lives the way we want and that’s what she wanted.
I do not support her acts,i do not support what she did but at the same time i do not support those who did not condemned her death.She fell victim to an honor killing like thousands of other girls in Pakistan.
She was the girl power!she was the power which was brutally killed.I wish things change,I wish we all one day make Pakistan the country of hope.
