Nausheen Shah happens to be one of the most fashionable stars of the industry. Her dress choices are always bold but beautiful and fashionable to the T. Alongside her keen sense of fashion, Nausheen happens to be a good actress as well, which she has proven time and again with her performances.
But Nausheen, who belongs to a very conservative Syed family, ventured into the showbiz, with help from her God, as she believes. In a recent interview with Iffat Omar, Nausheen narrated how she had come into the industry, an entirely new and close to impossible feat considering where she came from.
Stating that she felt that God had chosen the industry for her, Nausheen Shah said, “I come from a very conservative family and background. And the place I belong to, I feel there was only a divine intervention for me that I was spotted, singled out for audition, auditioned and got the part.”
“It was a very small role and I earned 3000 from it. I didn’t even have good clothes to wear for the audition and lent them from a friend,” added Nausheen further.
Nausheen also stated that she loved dressing up and had possibly spent all her money buying clothes and shoes for herself, and considering Nausheen’s sartorial choices, we feel, Nausheen did make a good investment indeed.
Typecasting means to cast an actor continuously in more or less the same kind of roles, either because of their physical appearance or previous success in such roles. Typecasting is especially unfair to those actors who are clearly capable of doing more. There is no denying the fact that the Pakistani drama industry is blessed with the best but even then the producers most often play it safe.
All the actors who are being typecast for the past few years are enormously talented. Most of these actors can easily pull off different kinds of roles yet somehow they settle for characters which are quite similar. It is monotonous and disappointing watching these actors in the same roles repeatedly.
I wrote a similar article in 2012 and some of these actors were in the list back then too! They seriously need to pick the characters they play more carefully.
Saba Hameed
Saba Hameed is on top of this list because she is the most experienced and talented actress who can fit into any kind of role at all. Yet! She chooses to play the flawed mother who always makes bad choices or is terribly insecure, over and over again. Saba Hameed played similar characters in many recent dramas. So much so that apart from the overall look, her characters were pretty much the same.
Guzarish, Baba Jani, Mere Mohsin, Ghalati are some of the recent dramas in which Saba Hameed played roles that had so many similarities. I am tired of watching her making her bahu or bhabhi’s life hell in dramas! It all started from Qaid-e-Tanhai and with a few breaks in between, it is continuing to date.
When Saba Hameed plays the mother of daughters in dramas, the characters go through some turmoil or the other. Aisi Hei Tanhai, Muqabil, Bhool are few such dramas.
Saba Hameed is a phenomenal actress and it would be great watching her following in the footsteps of actresses like Shamim Hilali, Asma Abbas and Badar Khalil who showed more diversity. Saba Hameed’s comic timing is exceptional too therefore she definitely has so many genres she can successfully experiment with.
Ayeza Khan
Ayeza Khan’s on-screen marriages have to be the most tearful and complicated affair. Every single drama she has worked in recently dealt with the same issue. Whether it was Yaariyan, Mere Pass Tum Ho, Thora Sa Haq and now Meher Posh, Ayeza Khan‘s characters go through similar situations. Ayeza works on her looks more than she does on making sure that she does something different every now and then.
She should definitely work less and choose the projects she is a part of carefully. The irony is that every drama Ayeza Khan has starred in recently has been a massive hit therefore the producers and Ayeza herself would have no reason to re-think the kind of roles she is being assigned.
Most of the characters Ayeza has played in her entire career have been black and white. It would be nice to see her in a character which is meaty and for once it would also be good to see Ayeza Khan compromising on her looks to play a role similar to the one Ushna Shah played in Alif Allah aur Insan and Iqra Aziz played in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi.
Mikaal Zulfiqar
Mikaal Zulfiqar is another actor who simply hasn’t played a character like the one he played in Durr-e-Shehwar since 2012! He has continuously been playing the role of the most clueless and selfish husband ever since in most of the dramas. Mikaal’s characters almost always cheat on their wives but ultimately end up regretting that behavior. Most often he is forgiven too (maybe because of those good looks!!)
Shehr-e-Zaat, Manjali, Sangat, Khasara, Ruswai, Izteraab are few such dramas in which he played roles that were quite similar. I am sure I am the only one who is sick and tired of watching him struggle with his complexes on screen. Mikaal Zulfiqar has played some of the most annoying male characters as well.
The role Mikaal played in Alif Allah aur Insaan was different and quite likable. He should stop playing the unfaithful and completely useless husband altogether and opt for roles that offer variety. In Durr-e-Shehwar he made a relatively brief appearance but his role left a lasting impression because it was easy to relate to.
Hania Aamir
Hania Aamir is one of my favorite actresses but I am quite disappointed with her choices recently. She was phenomenal in Titli but that doesn’t mean that she needs to play another character like that again. The role Hania Aamir chose to play in her latest drama Dil Ruba isn’t only similar to the one she played in Titli but also a lot like the role she is playing in drama serial Ishqiya which is currently on air.
Hania fits into the bubbly, happy-go-lucky roles perfectly which is why she is continuously seen playing such roles. She is clearly being typecast for this reason but it is up to her to step out of her comfort zone and experiment with different roles.
Alizeh Shah
Alizeh Shah has recently started playing leading roles in dramas. Apart from Ehd-e-Wafa she has been playing the yateem, besahara and bebas characters in all the dramas. Her constant sobbing in the recent dramas suggests that the producers are convinced that she is the most suitable actress for playing this role.
In Hoor Pari, Jo Tou Chahay and Mera Dil Mera Dushman, Alizeh Shah plays the innocent girl who suffers because of her selfish and insincere relatives. In all these plays she has a close relationship with her mother and is the majboor heroine who wants to but is not in a position to question anyone around her.
Alizeh Shah is completely capable of playing progressive roles therefore she should stop opting for such roles which only require her to look pretty and sob. I loved her in Superstar and would like to see her in different roles.

He also spoke about how one’s intention mattered the most because in the end it was Allah who was going to judge and therefore charity could also be done without attaining people’s attention.

Under Amanat Ali’s post, Anoushay Ashraf also replied and spoke about the power of social media. Anoushay Ashraf had a valid point where she spoke about how the right usage of social media was helping people approach them for the donations, however she also spoke about the importance of keeping the identities of the recipients discreet. She did feel that the entire display of poor and needy and bringing them to the limelight by posting their pictures was ignorance at its peak.
Yasir Hussain
Actor and host Yasir Hussain also took it to his Instastories to speak about how wrong the approach of people were when it came to doing charities. He felt disgusted at the idea of how people were making sure to fit in the frame only to prove that they have done charity. He also continued to make a stark comparison between Muslims and non-Muslims where the pictures clearly showed non-Muslims being discreet and just hanging the ration bags on the fence so that the passersby could pick them without even knowing who was behind this thoughtful gesture.
Shoaib Jatt
Sports journalist Shoaib Jatt took it to his twitter to speak about the heartfelt efforts of test cricketer Shabbir Ahmed. Shoaib Jatt shed a light on how Shabbir Ahmed was doing everything in his might to help the people in a small town of Khanewal. He spoke about the tight schedule Shabbir Ahmed was following where he wakes up at 3AM and starts his day early to help as many people as he could. He wanted to bring it to everyone’s attention so that if others wanted to contribute, they could, while highlighting the fact that he was doing all of this without making any noise on the social media because he was being compassionate towards those who are being helped.

Tonight’s episode of Sabaat established the leading characters further. Some of the developments were likable while there were others that were unconvincing. Hassan’s overnight change was the most difficult one to relate to. It was almost as if he was waiting for a dupatta-clad good girl to give him a reality check! I find Anaya’s character appealing minus the clichés but the role she played in bringing about this change in Hassan was a little too stereotypical.
This episode covered the events a few days after Hassan and Anaya’s confrontation therefore some of the developments were difficult to grasp at first. Also, are there really people out there who will pay someone 3 days after they start working? While the pay scale and the nature of Hassan’s job made sense but the fact that he was already shopping from his money didn’t add up. I think these things should have been shown instead of conveying a lot of it through different dialogues. All the tracks, however, gave some kind of new information about these characters.
Miraal’s Personality
Miraal’s basic personality was shown in the first episode but tonight we saw more of it and it can be safely said that she has an attitude problem. She has a self-righteous and controlling behavior. She feels like she does not owe anyone anything, not even respect. The way she tried to influence her brother’s decisions showed that her relationship with everyone around her was toxic. In the first episode, these two appeared to be quite close to one another but apparently all these years Miraal has simply been controlling her brother.
Except for her father, Miraal has zero-tolerance for everyone else around her. She doesn’t only want to run her life the way she wants but also makes sure that everything else around her also works according to her wishes. And she definitely does not hold back! The fact that she did not leave Hassan alone but actively tried to find out more showed that she takes controlling others really seriously! I was not expecting Miraal’s character to take such a negative turn but it is easy to understand why she thinks people are just as disposable as things. She is definitely spoiled and her father clearly thinks there is nothing wrong with that.
There must be a good reason why Miraal’s relationship with her naani is being given so much screen time. I am more intrigued to find out how her behavior with her naani will influence her personality in the upcoming episodes. Sarah Khan translated her character convincingly on screen, I especially liked her acting when she interacted with her naani and her brother’s friend.
The Change in Hassan
The preview of this episode did suggest that Hassan was going to take Anaya’s advice more seriously than expected but I really wasn’t expecting him to change his ways the way he did. Hassan’s dialogues clearly suggested that it wasn’t just what Anaya said which made him rethink his present choices but it was also because of everything he had heard people saying about him in the past. This cannot possibly be an easy decision for someone like him yet he seemed to be quite confident about it. I really think that this development should have been covered gradually.
While Hassan’s decision was quite mature, the way he informed Anaya about his decision was extremely immature. I felt that he was still confused and trying to prove that he could do this. It was difficult to take his decision seriously. Later on, he told Miraal that he had expected her to support him the most yet he never even sat down with her to discuss this major shift in his life. Ameer Gilani gave a decent performance but I really don’t find his overall styling appealing. Am I the only one who thinks he looks a little like Rahim Pardesi?
Anaya – A Progressive Character
I absolutely loved Mawra Hocane’s performance tonight and I also like the character she is playing. Although Anaya so far is a little too perfect and completely different from Miraal but she is also vocal and confident. Some of her dialogues were written really well tonight, like the one about picking her battles wisely. Her parents too are just as likable, I wanted to see more of them in this episode. Muhammad Ahmed is such an exceptional actor, he has a definite screen presence.
Anaya’s parents are supportive and they are continuously cheering her on. It was also good to see that Anaya’s friends had more to discuss than the incident with Hassan.
Final Remarks
I liked this episode more than the first one although I am finding it difficult to warm up to Hassan’s track just yet. The director once again kept things real and at the same time visually pleasing. The only scenes which transitioned in a confusing manner were the ones from the college to Miraal trying to access her brother’s laptop. This scene was a lot like the opening scenes from the first episode. There is nothing exceptional about this drama so far but it is engaging enough.
The preview of the next episode showed a confrontation between Miraal and Hassan after Miraal decides to perhaps tell Anaya off.

Its a very hard time for all such people we must keep an on our surrounding and must give a relief to all such people by giving them money or food items without making them uncomfortable. Some people have made ration distribution more of a show off kinda stuff. They distribute ration and pictures are being clicked which can cause embarrassment among the deserving people. People are not willing to show their faces while taking stuff. And now people are raising voice against this insensitive act. There is no need of showing faces of needy people they also have some self respect. No one should be allowed to cash their misery. Vasay Chaudhry raised voice against this act and said in one of his tweet that one must do charity for the sake of humanity and for the consummative, not for uploading pictures on social media. Soniya Hussain replied to Vasay Chaudhry’s tweet through her Instagram story and said that she used to have the same point of view that showing off transitives the good deeds. But it is also a fact that many people learns from the visual activities. All the religious activities were taught by actions when there is so much immoral material on social media why not a good thing as well?
Soniya Hussain is an opinionated lady and very particular about whatever her views are.

Taking to his Instagram, the actor stated, “Its important that we all stop and thank the ladies in our lives.”
Danish further added how the realization had dawned upon him. “In this time of crises, I realized how hard the women in my family work. Men go out to work and we feel like we do all the work. But sitting at home in isolation, you look around and realize how difficult are the duties of our women in our families. From getting up for breakfast, to taking care of the kids throughout the day, from cleaning up to cooking and taking care of matters inside and outside the house. It all gets unnoticed,” said Danish.
Ending the note, the Maherposh actor said that he would take this opportunity to thank the women in his life. “Therefore I just want to thank my wife, my mother, my daughter and all the others that help me in one way or another and are the reason for where I stand today in life. I am forever in your debt and will never be able to repay you. Thank you,” said Danish.

The best on-screen couples are those that might not always have the ideal track but they make you root for them nevertheless. These are those characters that keep you involved and looking forward to more. Their stories are realistic which makes it easier for the viewers to relate to them. Sometimes on-screen chemistry can do wonders and make even the most clichéd love stories desirable.
Thankfully, in some of the recent Pakistani dramas, we got to watch love stories that were unconventional and appealing. It is also really important that these love stories stay engaging right till the end. Sometimes certain on-screen couples win the viewers over in the first few weeks but they fail to keep the interest of the viewers alive right till the end. There are also those on-screen couples that gradually grow on the viewers and within a few weeks, the viewers find themselves looking forward to their scenes.
Out of all the dramas I watched recently, the following on-screen couples appealed to me more than others.
Danish and Mehwish (Mere Pass Tum Ho)
Some people might find it strange that Danish and Mehwish who had the most unsettling and tragic story are in this list but in my opinion, this list would be incomplete without them. If it wasn’t for Danish and Mehwish, Mere Pass Tum Ho wouldn’t have been such a huge hit.
It was Danish’s love for Mehwish that made the viewers fall in love with his character and it was Mehwish’s betrayal that made the viewers hate her character. Ayeza Khan and Humayun Saeed played their respective roles faultlessly. They made the viewers feel everything their characters went through right till the end.
The relationship these two characters shared and their respective personalities were outlined well right from the start. Mehwish’s unfaithfulness and Danish’s undying love for her was the main theme of the story which kept the viewers coming back for more. These central characters made Mere Pass Tum Ho what it was and all the other characters were simply passing through their lives.
Although Mere Pass Tum Ho’s end and Danish’s death was the worst thing we saw on television this year but overall Danish and Mehwish together definitely gave the viewers an unforgettable few weeks of emotional drama.
Saad and Dua (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Ehd-e-Wafa will always be remembered for all the right reasons. Saad and Dua’s romantic track was one of the most emotional and inspiring elements of the drama. Like all the other love stories in Ehd-e-Wafa, this on-screen couple also shared a bond that was unconventional.
Unlike most youngsters who are shown in Pakistani dramas, Saad and Dua motivated each other to succeed in life. In the beginning, Saad and Dua seemed to be an odd couple but as the story progressed the viewers were completely invested in their story.
Their romantic track was emotional and not cheesy. It was also progressive in so many ways. Ahad Raza Mir and Alizeh Shah performed their roles well. Even though the viewers missed watching them together in the last episode, their track throughout was a breath of fresh air.
Shariq and Ramsha (Ehd-e-Wafa)
This was another highly unusual yet likable on-screen couple that wasn’t even shown to be romantically involved right till the end. We rarely see such on-screen couples who are compatible, supportive and friends more than anything else.
Wahaj Ali and Hajra Yamin shared definite and sparkling on-screen chemistry which made their scenes a treat to watch. This was another modern yet classy on-screen couple that redefined the relationship between opposite genders.
Saad and Dua had few romantic moments but Shariq and Ramsha had none yet it was pretty evident that they were meant to be together. The individual performances of both the actors involved definitely added to the charm.
Shahzain and Rani (Ehd-e-Wafa)
This on-screen couple from Ehd-e-Wafa was completely different from the rest of the couples in the drama and these two got more screen time as well. Zara Noor Abbas was fun as Rani and as the story progressed she proved she was the perfect match for Shahzain.
Shahzain’s scenes with Rani also showed his vulnerable side, an aspect which he hid from everyone else around him. Osman Khalid Butt and Zara Noor Abbas looked great together on-screen. It is always good to see such a fresh pairing on our television screens.
The best thing about this on-screen couple was that they stayed fun and comic right till the end even after everything that happened between them. It was certainly enjoyable watching these two.
Abdullah and Mahjabeen (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Abdullah and Mahjabeen right now are my favorites! I think that this on-screen couple has so much going for them and they have a lot of potential. The way these two got married and the manner in which they have supported each other unknowingly ever since makes them the most adorable couple we have seen on our television screens lately. This on-screen couple gives the term ‘match made in heaven’ a whole new meaning.
Abdullah and Mahjabeen’s story has just started but already I find myself looking forward to their scenes. The way their marriage took place was also shown in a convincing manner. Both these characters have so much to offer therefore together they are truly a fantastic match. Yumna Zaidi and Bilal Abbas Khan’s mind-blowing performances never cease to impress.
Amaan and Ana (Yeh Dil Mera)
Amaan and Ana don’t have the ideal relationship even now after all these weeks. There are also times when Ana’s tolerance for Amaan can be annoying but we are all rooting for them anyway! The fact that Amaan is not an evil person but is merely a broken adult trying to take revenge from the person who took his loved ones away makes him someone who definitely deserves loving. Ana derives her strength from Amaan even though he is not always supportive.
Most of the viewers are waiting for the time when Amaan will finally be healed, Ana will know the truth and they can have their happy ending. These two characters have a painful past and a story that is novel. Sajal Ali and Ahad Raza Mir’s on-screen chemistry and their performances have been on point throughout. Apart from that even with all the other important characters Amaan and Ana’s track continues to be the main attraction.
Hamza and Warda (Ruswai)
I have been following Ruswai and I lost interest in it after Sameera’s father passed away. The only track that makes sense at the moment and which makes me tune into the show is that of Hamza and Warda. I find Sameera’s track repetitive and annoying but I still find myself rooting for Hamza and Warda. Hamza was always shown as an over-protective brother, therefore, his unreasonable behavior makes perfect sense. Warda is being victimized for no reason and the way she pleaded in front of Hamza’s family in the previous episode was heart-wrenching.
Hamza and Warda could have been good together had it not been for all the family politics and emotional decisions. I am hoping they will have a happy ending and that is the only reason I will be watching Ruswai’s last episode! Osama Tahir and Minna Tariq’s have given solid performances even though they don’t fit into the typical hero/heroine stereotype.

Ever since the coronavirus brought a global lockdown, flights have been suspended throughout the world. And because the spread of the virus is nowhere near slowing down, there has been no update whatsoever about the resuming of the flight operation around the globe.
Because of this dilemma, Pakistani celebrities, including Shamoon Abbasi, Sara Loren, Mohib Mirza and Sanam Saeed, who had flown to Thailand to shoot for their film Ishrat Made In China have been stuck there.
The team was due to return on March 25th but a flight operation suspension was imposed before that.
Shamoon Abbasi, one of the actors of the films, who recently updated the team’s situation in Thailand on his social media, has now uploaded a video, requesting the Pakistani government and authorities to help bring them and other stranded Pakistanis from Thailand.
Taking to his social media, Shamoon Abbasi in a video stated, “We heard Asad Umar’s conference of and came to know that PIA would bring back stranded Pakistanis from Britain and Canada. Since we’re stuck here for the past 15 days we would want the government to look into this matter as well.”
“We’re 21 people here, Sara Loren, Mohib Mirza, Sanam Saeed, Iman Syed and 14 people from the crew and the expenses have been increasing,” added Shamoon further.
“We know that PIA will begin operations to bring back stranded Pakistanis from England and Canada but there has been no mention of Thailand as yet. I would like to request the foreign ministry, Asad Umar and also PM Imran Khan to look into the matter,” said Shamoon requesting if a route could be arranged so that the team of the film and 150 other stranded Pakistanis from Thailand could be brought back to Pakistan.
“I would like to personally request Mr. Imran Khan to look into the matter because we, actors, are an asset to the country and work hard for Pakistan,” requested Shamoon.
