4 (annoying) components of last episodes

0

We have some very monotonous ending methods for Pakistani dramas. The twists are always the same and ghooma phira ke we always end up at the same place in every other show. Yes, most of our stories are same as well, but at least the last episode should be exciting.

The most common ways of ending a Pakistani drama are:

1. Eavesdropping:

Always at the right time! The good characters who have been pure annoying idiots from the start of the show, and easiest to fool will eavesdrop at the exact right moment. Have any of the drama makers realized how annoying this is?

Recent example is Tum mere hi rehnawhere Rania (Urwa Hocane) had to leave the house because of Sumbhul’s (Kiran Haq) plan to get her hands on Rania’s husband, Numail. Sumbhul’s sister eavesdropped at the exact moment when Sumbhul was talking to herself about how she “will get Numail now”. Other than this, in Nazdikiyan Nudrat (Maria Wasti) was kicked out of the house when her husband heard her talking on the phone about how she added pills to juice and made her sautan drink it. That caused her to miscarry.

Screen Captures4

2. A lame apology:

The amount of problems our heroines experience are rectified by one simple apology. I get the point, that forgiveness is better than revenge, and I don’t mind if the victim forgives those who wronged them.

However, there are two problems. The first one is the monotonous dialogues in those scenes.  Since these are dramas, and not real life, it wouldn’t hurt the hero to do something special for his woman. Sorry hi karna hai, so why not go big? A recreation of the day the couple met or preparing her favourite meal. Learn to use Google people! DIY websites offer a lot of options for this.

The second problem is the victim not protesting at all. Say SOMETHING to the other person before you forgive them!  There are countless dramas whose apologetic moments left no impact on me. For example, Adhoori Aurat, Dil-e-Muzter and specially Pani Jesa Pyar.

Screen Captures3

3. The heroine HAS to leave the house:

Ek Kasak Reh Gayee, Dil-e-Muzter, Pani Jese Pyar Tum Mere Hi Rehna and so on. The heroine of each of these had to leave the house before the end of the drama. After the hero realized her worth, he went to her, said the apologetic words, and brought her back. That was obviously after he had eavesdropped on the vamp. Recent example is Khata where the heroine has left her husband’s house and will obviously be taken back by him in the last episode. Humsafar was the one where it started, and even though it is one of my most favourite dramas, I do not want every drama to have the same story or ending.

Screen Captures54. Dragging: It has to be a part of last episodes as well. Viewers are forced to watch long emotional scenes, which are useless, because only short and to the point scenes leave their mark.

And if there are no scenes left to drag, they will put on the title song and show the main leads thinking, walking and even breathing just so they can increase the duration of an already stretched episode.

Jackson Heights – Episode 22!

To be honest, I just want this drama to end ASAP. Even though I know that we’re left with 2 more episodes of Jackson Heights, I just want to get over with this because they have seriously tested our intelligence & our patience enough & now I feel that I ain’t left more of it to go through these ‘torturous’ last two episodes. The thing I said last week, I’ll say that again ke hadh ki bhi hadh hoti hai!

Now when they should be wrapping this drama up, they tried really hard to make us feel something for all the characters by making everything even more melodramatic, as if the lighting & the pace wasn’t enough. Even though I really like Naani’s character despite the fact that she hasn’t offered much ‘like everyone else’, I feel her sickness has come in at a wrong time because I couldn’t feel a thing about the whole situation at all. Yes, she was suffering but who’s to be blamed here? Iqbal or Imran? We know that Imran’s bhai & bhabhi are vultures but like seriously, he couldn’t cry at his mother’s condition but the hospital bills reduced him to tears? Imran has made his mother wait for a span of 15 years & still he was having second thoughts about visiting her that too after he personally had a conversation with the doctor? Yes, Imran has understood that it’s only the money that matters to his brother back-home but shedding tears & giving up on a situation which already had a solution came across as such a stupid scenario. Imran himself knows that the green card’s not worth it, to phir intezaar kiss baat ka hai bhai, ticket lo aur wapis jao! Plus it was so mean of him to ask Jamshed to go to Pakistan on his behalf. Imran should’ve known better that when he wasn’t around for 15 years, Naani spent that time with Jamshed, so now she needs her son & not her grandson, who just left a few months ago!

Oh ho, last week I asked whether Salma was a human being or an angel but I think I need to change my question & now it’s going to be ‘kya Salma insaan hain yan doormat’? Appna jawab hamain likh ke zaroor bhejiyega, hamain parh ke khushi hogi. Like seriously? Salma you’ve found a way out of this mess but seems like you don’t want to come out of it? Miraculously, the zevar she had, gave birth to more zevar & she sold them for good 19 grand but now when she was left with nothing, she was worried about how she will take care of another $25K which were to be paid to the goons? Why was she worried bhai? Sikandar aur uska karza, Sikandar aur wo janay! Like Salma has no feelings, nothing at all for Sikandar but seems like she wants to take care of everything before she leaves as if she is guilty of something, which she clearly is not! IF she would’ve been someone with brains, she would’ve left him the minute he showed up with a gun but then why are we expecting Salma to act sensibly? Remember, the writer has poured all the stupidity into the female characters of this drama. & Oh!!! Poor Imaan thinks unke daddy jaan bilkul change ho gaye hain & just this statement was enough for Salma to have second thoughts about her future plans with Bhatti? Please don’t tell me that ‘this’ is the change in Sikandar Salma used to talk about & she was waiting for because it already makes me want to throw up!

Finally, I am glad that before the drama ended we got to see the mysterious sister of mystery-gone-wrong Michelle. I was afraid that the way things have unravelled in this drama, going by that she would’ve made an appearance in the 25th episode (note: the drama ends at 24th episode). In just one appearance, Maria hit the bullseye by saying that even the ‘teenagers’ don’t act the way Michelle has been acting, but too bad Maria, hum bhi kab se yehi bol rahay hain but appki baby behan oh sorry, baby appa sunti hi nahi. :/ Seems like Rizwan got in contact with Maria but forgot to give her the details of infant of a husband that toddler Michelle has found for herself. Rizwan jab itni mehnat ki hi thi to puri mehnat hi kar dete so that Maria could’ve stopped her sister from committing such a big mistake but the way she just shared her disappointment, made it look like she had no issues with this marriage at all & she wanted to be an active participant of this shindig. Too bad Maria, just by showing up one time, you’ve enrolled yourself into the list of ‘senseless females of Jackson Heights’, but then there shouldn’t be any list because it’s a known fact – if you’re watching Jackson Heights, you’re only going to meet the most stupid women ever seen!

I just want to ask what Salma’s waiting for? Is she waiting for the drama to end, then only will she take a decision or she is just doing this all to drag the drama so that she can snatch the last drop of patience we’re left with? Now that Sikandar is out of the hospital & she has taken care of everything necessary, so, what’s holding her back? I also want to ask why is it that Michelle can’t smell the mystery that Jamshed’s been reeking of? He is forcing her to keep this marriage a secret from her sister & she is agreeing to it, but what for?

I so want to believe that what Salma said to Sikandar by the end of this episode was actually a truth but I think she just wanted to get a reaction out of him just to check whether he has changed or not, but then I am sure she will go back to being normal, she will push his wheelchair, give him his medicine, will take care of everything related to her husband darling because…she’s Salma!!! Anyways, share your thoughts about this episode of Jackson Heights please.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Sadqay Tumhare – Episode 19

“Mein adhi ibadat chor kar bhaag aye, na is ka sawab, na us ka sawab” …. I was expecting the story to take a totally different turn therefore I was pleasantly surprised to see that neither Shano nor Khalil was going to let anyone stand in their way even now. The best scene of tonight’s episode had to be the one in which Shano made her father swear on her mother that he will not get her married -déjà vu anyone? Shano has proved over and over again that she is a nicer and more positive version of her mother. She is loving and caring but at the same time she can manipulate situations to her advantage when she wants to although most of the times she chooses not do that. In my opinion Shano had made a very good deal with her father but when she reached the court she came out with the truth probably because she knew that her mother will find some way to ensure that Amin does not keep his promise or it could be that one look at Khalil changed her mind. Shano bought herself some more time by asking the Judge to let her stay with her naani but that wouldn’t mean that her parents will leave her alone. The court’s verdict of waiting for a few years before getting the two married also gives Khalil and Shano a lot of time to think things through.

Khalil’s mother’s support for him once again showed the difference in thinking of the two mothers. Shano’s mother cannot see beyond her own selfish interests but Khalil’s mother wants her son to fight till the end. Inayat’s dialogue relating to shahadat was a little too OTT even from Sadqay Tumhare standards;) Khalil knew that he deserved to be punished and the best way to punish himself was to present himself to Mushtaq’s father. Even when Amin told Mushtaq’s father to stop hitting Khalil he kept on telling him to continue probably because he needed that pain in order to forget the hurt he felt inside because of the promise he made. Abdul Rehman asked the lawyer to go with whatever Shano had to say about the incident because he knew only too well ke vo us ke bayaan ke khilaf kuch nahi sunay ga chahe usay phansi ho jaye. Samiya Mumtaz’s expressions when Shano said jhoot moot phansi le li were priceless; they showed her helplessness and frustration perfectly. Samiya Mumtaz deserves the award of Drama Queen of the millennium for her character and acting! Mushtaq’s dialogues in the beginning provided comic relief and his support for Khalil in the later half showed that he too was convinced that Khalil and Shano belonged to each other.

FotorCreated

Bay Ji’s character in the play is also one of my favorites; I like her bluntness and most of all her support for our hero and heroine. She has a strong character just like all the other ladies in the play. Shano definitely saved the day today by taking control of the situation. She knows how to deal with her mother! The preview of the next episode showed that Rashida will continue playing her games. The developments especially in the past few episodes have been very interesting mainly because it is very difficult to guess what is going to happen next. After watching the last episode I am sure many viewers like me were convinced that this was the end of Shano and Khalil’s love story but every time their love story takes a new turn which gives the viewers hope that we might get to see a happy ending after all but let’s not expect too much because our writer does not believe in happy endings.

The poor video quality on my television today made it impossible for me to enjoy the episode, there were times when it was impossible to make out what was being said because of the loss of audio, there were continuous pauses throughout the second and third half of the play and the screen went blank at least thrice in the third half! Later on when I watched the episode online I realized that the problem was only on my end, did anyone else have these problems too while watching this episode? Watching it online was definitely better than watching it on Live TV. I have already watched this episode twice!

How many of you think that Shano handled the whole situation very wisely? And how many people are happy with the latest developments? Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Alvida – Episode 1

0

Sanam Jung, Imran Abbas and Shehzad Kashmiri who created magic on screen in Dil-e-Muztar are back with Alvida and these three are the primary reason why I was waiting for this play for several months now. I am not expecting the story to be anything more than that of a love triangle as is evident from the promos therefore little expectations would mean lesser room for disappointments! Yes this play has been written by Samira Fazal therefore it comes with a BIG warning – be careful you might be heading into dangerous territory!! The play has been produced by Momina Duraid Productions, Hamayun Saeed and Shehzad Naseeb.

This first episode did remind me of Dil-e-Muztar because of the relationship dynamics between Haya (Sanam Jung) and her cousin Haadi (Imran Aslam) but quite unlike Dil-e-Muztar’s Adeel, Haadi is very well-off and confident. He knows what he wants from life and is very passionate about his work. Our heroine Haya is head over heels in love with her cousin Haadi; it seemed more like a case of childhood crush which Haya never got over maybe because Haadi was around all the time. Haadi is probably the only man Haya has been this close too and she obviously is very attracted to him and she also thinks that Haadi feels the same way about her too. We learned today that Haya is adopted; she has been brought up by her Taya and Tayee. Her mother died probably when she was born and her father gave her away to his brother because he had three other daughters to look after. Haya is a pampered child who believes in expressing how she feels. Her conversation with her cousin Fariza (Sara Khan) went to show that she does not have a very high opinion of her Tayee or maybe she thinks it is “cool” to feel that way about her Tayee! Haya is insecure because of her past and honestly speaking I am slightly scared of what her character might be capable of doing! Fariza “secretly” hates Haya probably because she was brought up in a rich household!

FotorCreated

Haadi on the other hand treats Haya like a kid, more like a little sister and has no idea that Haya feels something entirely different about him. While Haya is someone Haadi thinks he needs to look after and pamper, his cousin Aroosa (Naveen Waqar) is the one who has always stood by him. Haadi sees a companion in Aroosa and both have a history together too. Haya thinks Haadi is coming home to her after 5 years of staying in London and then Somalia but Haadi actually came back to Aroosa. Haadi’s mother does not think Aroosa is the right match for his son because of the class difference. We know very little about Aroosa but we do know that Hadi’s father owns a hospital and he wants his son to run this hospital for him some day. Haadi’s mother’s statement about Aroosa clearly indicated that Aroosa’s family was not as rich as them therefore this rishta was not meant to be at least for now.

This first episode was definitely fast paced. I am in two minds about Haya’s character for now but I am waiting to find out more about her. I hope that the negative streak in her personality does not get the best of her. All the main leads are playing characters different from the ones they have played before therefore I am waiting to see what they have in store for us next. The characters in the play are complicated and there are multiple tracks as well so this might just be a heavy duty drama. Imran Abbas and Sanam Jung look really cute together, it will take time for me to warm up to Haadi and Aroosa’s couple. I was hoping that we will see some happy times before the real story begins maybe because I really wanted to see more of Imran Abbas and Sanam Jung together but that was not meant to be!

Did you watch the first episode of Alvida? Do share your thoughts about it.

Kis Se Kahoon_ Episode 7-10

0

Kis Se Kahoon is a bundle of mesages, simple yet enjoyable. The duration is the only problem for me though.

Salma, her mother Razia, and her family, abandoned by her father were settled in Hadiqa’s house when Salma’s father arrived and threw a tantrum that Hadiqa’s father, Mr. Siddiqui, was forcefully keeping the family at his house. Mr Siddiqui was furious and told them to go back, while his wife sided with him. Meanwhile, as Razia gave in to Mr.Siddiqui’s requests, Hadiqa tried to convince her parents and Razia as well that domestic violence needs to be reported. Still, Razia had to go back and her husband continued to ridicule her and his daughters.

10887512_878496542189883_7332038174100611653_o

Hadiqa’s Islamiat teacher gave few lectures. One was about the Day of Judgement and some on other topics. The one about the Last Day was really well-written. It was worth a share.

While Hadiqa tried to save Salma and Razia, she herself got trapped by Fahad. She could not see the mask he wore and his tactics and good looks blinded her.

Meanwhile Asfandyar (Essa Chauhdry) who was trying to deal with his anger issues by painting, joined a mental hospital. He dealt with women who had been abused so much that due to psychological pressure, they had stopped talking. They did not use the gift of speech to convey their problems to others. Asfand gave them a pencil and paper, so they could use their hands to convey their problems.

Salma’s abusive father was diagnosed with a lethal disease. While Salma fretted about his treatment, she received the news that he died in an accident on the highway, while he was driving his truck. He was an abusive father and a burden on Salma, despite that she cried. This shows no matter how bad he was, his daughters considered him an important part of their lives. Immediately after this Salma’s youngest sister ran away. She used to hobble, and Salma wondered, Chal nahi sakti thhi, bhaag kese gayi?

So Salma is facing tough problems right now, and so will Hadiqa if she lets Fahad fool her any further. This drama tells youth about their rights and how to deal with their problems, and I am sure it will give some thoughtful messages to the audience.

Performances have been top-notch till now. I like the characters as well and the show is well-written and directed. What did you think of these episodes?

Zidd – Episode 08!

0

Ohkay so, to be honest, this episode was a lot better than the previous few. I found it interesting in bits & seems like apart from Saman’s story, other tracks are offering something to look forward to.

Saman & Qasim’s argument lead her to leave his place. I thought she knew better because she left his place without even notifying him. Being headstrong is good but being uncourteous isn’t. Saman seems to be on a trip of her own where whenever she’s given a reality check, she decides to run away. I know, I do like her for being headstrong but right now she is coming across as someone who has a very confused personality & thought process. I know, what she has gone through has hit her hard but that doesn’t mean she has to run away every single time she’s met with something that makes sense. Qasim only tried to make her understand indirectly that she has been hard on herself & people around her as much as Rukhi is being hard on him but Saman felt she couldn’t stay there & all she could do was ignore his generosity just because only for once he decided to tell the truth to her on her face?

Ohkay so, Saman has decided to hop from one place to another just because she’s in a search of something she herself doesn’t know about. Saman says she wanted to enjoy her life but now when she has finally found a chance, why is she finding it so hard to be happy? I mean of all the places she had, she thought staying at Zainab’s place would be the best option but what was she thinking? I really thought she was wise enough to understand from just one visit to Zainab’s, that her home wasn’t a decent place to stay but Saman chose to ignore all that & felt she would be peaceful there?

For now, I do like Rukhi’s character more. She may be headstrong & stubborn, but she is a lot better & nicer than Saman. Even though she is younger to Saman, she seems more mature, wise, logical & compromising despite being stubborn. Rukhi knows what she wants but she also knows the ways how to get what she desires. She loves David but she also loves her Dad & she wants to make both of them happy. Not even for once she has tried to hurt or emotionally blackmail her father because she knows this will only lead him to have bitter memories of something that’s just so special to her. Even though everyone has spoken to her about her decision, she knows she can trust David because he makes her happy.

Yes, Qasim is a father who only wants something that’s best for Rukhi, but the way he has been so sceptical about an American guy getting married to Rukhi doesn’t look fine because he himself has done the exact same thing in his life, so how can he expect Rukhi to act any differently? During the conversation he had with Saman, it was quite clear that his wife Jullian wasn’t insincere & in fact she was a very good wife but he was the one who couldn’t do justice to her as he was too busy shaping up his life, so when he himself got a good spouse who was an American – his hatred & hesitance doesn’t seem justified. Yes, no guy can ever be good enough for a father to choose for his daughter, but David seems sincere & Rukhi also seems logical. Yes, we’ve been introduced to her soft side that she’s easy to mould but I think, for now, I am ready to trust her judgment & I so hope she finds happiness & the writer doesn’t show that her ‘zidd’ cost her, her happiness.

Zainab is weird & that’s the only word that explains her the best but I do feel her story is going to get a lot more interesting because just one encounter with Omar was enough to make us understand that my assumption could be true which was that she might be Omar’s first wife because the way she complimented him about his dressing & the way her body language changed when he was around, went to show that they do share a history & also we’ve been kept in the dark about Omar’s first wife & I can see why!

So, after all the things Saman has said all these years against living alone in America & taking care of household chores, she has found herself doing exactly the same things & what’s sad is, she really thought her life will throw; exactly what she wants, at her. Plus I really don’t get what is it about cooking & cleaning that takes her back to her statements where she used to condemn all this bluntly & then she frowns for ages. Even if she is doing all this, she is doing it for herself & not for anyone else, so why is it so hard for her? I really thought Saman meant business when she decided to go to USA but now she has opted for a job that her friend used to do before, which is to take care of an old lady (Ismat Zaidi) who has pretty much gone senile. For now, I do find Shazia’s (Angeline Malik) character very composed & nice. What she said was exactly what Saman ‘should’ hear. ‘Logon ko izzat raas nahi ati’ & this is exactly what hit Saman so hard that it made her uncomfortable. Even though Zainab might look a bit superficial but the questions she posed in front of Saman were a lot deeper & meaningful. She really wanted to know why Saman left her husband. What was the reason behind it? Later what Shazia said also matched Saman’s mindset & was more like a cold hard slap for Saman because she could’ve made things work, she could’ve given her husband a chance, she could’ve tried to mend her ways but she chose the otherwise. I do not say that Omar was worth giving a shot for, but the way Saman is tackling her life is making her seem a lot more stupid & that comes across as a shock because no one expected her to be so immature & after all that she’s doing to herself, seems like if she had ‘compromised’ & stayed with Omar, it would’ve been a lot more better.

After new entries, I feel this drama is going to revolve around female characters only & because of that it seems like our nakaam ashiq hero Omar is going to get lost in the crowd of damsels in distress, which is why his scenes look a lot like fillers in most of the episodes & it seems his role has become stagnant because; he got married, failed at it, he got married again, brought his wife to USA, almost failed at this marriage too & his job is pretty much done here. Now he is seen conversing with his friend crying over how bad his life has turned out to be or he goes around discussing matters which really don’t concern him, like Rukhi’s affair. ‘Mujhe lagta hai jitna app usay rokainge, wo utna appse duur bhagegi’ says Omar who advices Qasim to be a bit patient whereas he was the one who couldn’t do the same when it came to Saman. He was out there, reminding her again & again that she should accept her ‘husband’ as he was her ‘husband’ & she should do everything that her ‘husband’ likes but Omar should’ve understood that imposing himself as a ‘husband’ on her wasn’t the right thing to do.

Anyways, let’s see what this drama has in store for us. The preview of next episode seemed interesting too. I do find the pace of all the episodes a lot slower & really struggle to keep my interest intact. If it wasn’t for reviewing, I wouldn’t be watching it so vigilantly as it doesn’t manage to grab your interest instantly. Share your thoughts about this episode of Zidd please.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Chup Raho – Episode 24

Saeein Ji aur Rameen ki shadi ho gi aur hum gharare aur sarian pehney gay! What else do you expect me to start this review with after an episode like the one we saw tonight? I have a very difficult time digesting the fact that Rameen has conveniently moved on; sure she is reminded of her past every now and then but she gives being comfortably numb a whole new meaning! What I have concluded from this drama so far is that a rape victim who is tortured physically and mentally not for a few days but many months and one who was led down in the worst manner possible by all her close relatives will not have any issues entering into new relationships and trusting people only months after going through all the physical and mental turmoil. Saeein Ji and his love for Rameen which I find very difficult to relate to is the solution to all of Rameen’s problems – past and present! So, should any other unfortunate girls out there like Rameen who are watching this show go looking for their Saeein Ji’s too?

I had to remind myself over and over again while watching tonight’s episode that this was the same Rameen who lived in Numair’s house and went through everything she had to go through because somehow I feel like we are supposed to forget all of that and sit with Manal in the car and enjoy the ride;) Seriosly!! I thought Rameen wanted to end that chapter in her life and she went to get a divorce so that she could have her happily ever after with the Saeein Ji and his three cutie pies!! But Rameen will be Rameen, she always manages to find ways to make life more difficult for herself because if Rameen gets her happily ever after the story will end.

Rameen’s reaction to the marriage proposal was shocking, she must be really tired of her long journey and in desperate need for a place to rest, if you know what I mean! Shiraz’s mother’s dialogues throughout this episode were just plain ridiculous. Those romantic/supportive dialogues from Shiraz were anything but music to my ears! How could Shiraz let Numair touch Rameen like that when she went to his house? And why can’t Numair talk to Rameen without touching her? Why does Rameen allow every man to hold her hand and drag her wherever he wants? Rameen has learned absolutely nothing from all her experiences which really is very sad! Manal’s dialogue about Rameen being an Allah wali and how she ended up being so lucky even though she was left stranded by them was not very polite therefore if Rameen had learned anything she would not go back to that house! There was apparently no good reason for Naila’s illness except that because of that Rameen will go back to Numair’s house again…oh well!! Rameen still doesn’t know that Azar is dead because if she finds out then she wouldn’t go out looking for him again so that she can get a divorce.

The preview of the next episode showed that the story will go around in circles for a little while before it finally concludes. Manal will find out that Rameen was right about Numair all along and Rameen will get a husband. We obviously expected much more from this story but I guess this is just another story of a girl finding her prince charming in the end after going through the worst! It is really upsetting to see that Rameen’s character has not developed at all throughout this serial; she is still as gullible as she was in the first episode. Most of us were waiting to see how Rameen’s personality and not just her life changes after going through all these tragic experiences. Rameen’s life changed in many ways but her personality never did!

Do share your thoughts about this latest episode …. aap Rameen ki shadi pe kiya pehne gi ghara ya sari;)

Dusri Biwi- Episode 11

0

Here I am, scratching my head and struggling to find the right words to explain what’s happening in Dusri Biwi. Just so you know, I am the kind of person who always takes the worst possible scenarios into consideration but I have to admit that seeing Aisha and Farah (the former not knowing that the latter’s her sautan) living together under one roof was something I didn’t think of. It’s not that I had some great expectations but HumTv’s ”Aahista Aahista” touch is making me go ballistic!!

I know it sounds boring but Amir’s presence ”frightens” Farah to death  (zzzzzzzzzz) and when Farah finally musters up the courage to go out to buy something for herself, she finds Amir following her but for a guy soo desperate, it’s unbelievable how he didn’t follow her into the store- bus gari say hi ‘FARAH’ chilla kar chalay gaye! This guy has got so much time on his hands- he is apparently or I should say, obviously jobless yet he owns a Corolla! Right when Farah thinks that her coast is clear,  she bumps into *drumrolls* Aisha! As vulnerable as she is, Biwi No.2 loses her consciousness but our Biwi No.1 comes to the rescue! Haha, not every day a biwi turns into a maseeha for the girl with whom she happens to share the love of her life, huh? So Aisha brings Farah home and lo and behold! Biwi No.1 & 2 are living under the same roof! Aisha recognized Farah instantly and on a serious note, I would like someone to remind me of the episode in which the two ladies actually met each other in person because it may be my weak memory that all I can recall are the phone conversations they had with each other.

Uss larki mein aisa kia hai sab ko uss say pyar hojata hai?
Thank you for asking it aloud, Ashi, isn’t it a coincidence that we both were wondering the same thing???!? All I see when I look at Farah is a fed-up-of-life girl with obnoxiously scattered, half-dyed hair and a terrible frown, muttering something in her putting-to-sleep voice.

ep11

Tum 2 din say ghar say ghayab ho aur tumharay shauhar nay tum say contact karne ki koshish nahe ki? I was actually veryyy relieved when Aisha questioned Farah about her husband because considering Aisha’s exceptional case of gullibility, it’s actually a HUGEE accomplishment for her confined mind to point out the obvious! Also, just within two days, Saman has grown soooo close to Farah- this seems way too forced! I mean, what’s the writer’s point here- dusri biwian can be perfecttt step-mothers too?! I am running out of words to describe how detestable Hassan is but this time I’d really like to give Aisha a piece of my mind: ARE YOU INSANE? Agar tumharay shauhar kay ghar mein tumharay liye jagah nahe tou tum yaheen rahogi- meray saath! HELLO? Did it never dawn on Aisha that there are loadssss of other people, or to be more precise, ‘blood relatives’ who can take care of a girl abandoned by her hubby, for instance, ammi, abba, bhai, behen, chacha chachi, taaya taayi, phupo phupa, mamu, maami, khala khalu, dadi dada, nana nani!! Its soo unbelievably infuriating that Aisha doesn’t even ask herself: why am I taking care of my piya’s EX-colleague, I repeat EX-colleague?!

Bhai Jee’s bharam tou uff! He is losing his temper and I laugh out loud every time I see him and Bhabi Jee on the screen- they’re a good-for-nothing duo, you know. It was sooo hilarious the way he snapped his fingers and said, ‘Mein tumhe apni behen ka ghar tabah karnay nahe dunga! Samjhi tum?’ *snaps fingers*:P

Untitled

I always liked Hassan’s friend for being the only voice of reason in this play but no no, how can the writer let us enjoy the experience of watching someone taunting Hassan? This friend offers some golden words: jaisa chal raha hai waisa hi chalnay do! See, this whole Farah-and-Aisha-staying-together thing is not ending anytime soon! You know, I am dreading the unthinkable: what IF IF IF after a lot of drama and rona dhona, they show Hassan, Aisha, Farah, Saman and the newborn baby leading a peaceful life in the last episode? I know it’s tooo bad to be true but considering how kind and considerate both wives appear to be and how well Farah is getting along with Saman, I am having a veryy bad bad feeling about this!

Please do let me know what you think of the latest developments. :)

P.S: Since my papers are about to begin and they’re not ending any time before 19th Feb, 2015, I will review Episode 12 & 13 together. I am so sorry but you guys are an amazing bunch of readers so I hope you understand :) Have a great day and yes, do wish me luck!

Aik Pal_ Episode 12: Twists and turns

0

When I signed in to watch this drama, I wanted to see the story of four people from four different backgrounds who influence each other. Through the previous few episodes, their tracks were stagnant and ALL the other characters got loads of screen time.  Adding to this, the stagnant tracks were all totally separate from each other (Bareera and Omair in the city, Mus’haf in his village and Noor Fatima in her’s). So Aik Pal had turned into a boring show. This episode was better since it was much more happening and the three new twists were relieving.

The first one came after Mus’haf escaped Rani’s defamation because of the call Chauhdry Sahab got, that one of his sons had run away with a girl from another influential family. In a turn of events, the girl’s family captured the son, and demanded bete ke badle beti, as in, they’d only give the son back when Chauhdry gave his daughter in marriage to one of their sons. Chauhdry Ashraf (Adnan Shah Tipu) suggested Rani’s father to agree to this, and hinted that she has already ruined their izzat so her marriage is the best option right now. This served Rani right, and Mus’haf’s faith in Allah redeemed his position in Chauhdry’s eyes.

Screen Captures3

Shazi was restless at Imran’s friend’s house and when she overheard him talking to Imran about his wedding, she sensed something was fishy. Whatever she did to Imran was well deserved. His family now knows how much of a liar he is and they won’t trust him again.

Screen Captures2

This episode was made complete with the meeting I was waiting for. Mus’haf and Noor Fatima’s conversation was relatable. When two university friends meet after a long time, they first discuss their present lives and then share the memories of their academic life. Noor Fatima had remembered Bareera after all these years, as the girl who didn’t interact with her much. Phir bhi ek kashish thhi uss mein. Noor Fatima was a nerd, and Bareera was the popular girl who was admired by everyone, including Noor Fatima. It makes sense why she still remembers Bareera.

Bareera’s life has definitely taken a bad turn. The man she wanted to leave her father for is giving her a hard time. I am glad their track moved forward as well and Omair showed his true colours. Not only is he keeping her away from the business but he is using her to sign his deals!

Screen Captures4

Let’s see of the next episode is as interesting as this one. Now that Mus’haf and Noor Fatima have finally met, will they fall in love? What will Bareera do to save herself from Omair’s schemes?

Do share your opinion. And guys, Kis Se Kahoon review is coming tomorrow In Shaa Allah.

” No Matter How Hard You Work, You Are Pulled Down” – Saba Hamid

0

Saba Hamid is an asset for our drama industry not only because she is a very gifted actress but also because she has given the television industry more than half of her life. One would expect Saba Hamid to be at a such a place in the entertainment industry right now where she is not dragged into petty politics but it looks like that is not the case. Saba Hamid put her feelings about where her long career in the television industry had taken her eventually in this tweet:

Untitled

It is sad that actors who have given the drama industry so many years feel that even now there are ways for people to pull them down. Saying that this could be the time for Saba to make her exit from the industry because she is surrounded by people who pull her down is without any doubt very sad. Recently Saba Hamid was in the news when she talked about how she felt about the current situation in Pakistan.

saba hameed

Few months back when the veteran actress Badar Khalil announced her exit from the showbiz world she also expressed her disappointed with how the seasoned artists were being treated by the drama industry.

Mathira also talked about the changes which married life has brought to her life. “Before marriage I used to sleep whole day long but now marriage has brought in many positive and beneficial changes in my life,” said the actress.

Mathira also said that she had made more enemies than friends in the showbiz industry. Mathira thinks that in showbiz everyone looks after their own interests. She also said that now that she is married she is more conscious about the kind of projects she chooses. Talking about her future plans the model said, “I will keep working for the drama industry and have interesting plans to exceed.”

Goya- Episode 13 Review

Omar awakens from his beauty sleep without any visible scars but his emotional wounds will take time to heal. He’s back in the home he left vowing to never return and the fact that he’s supposedly paralyzed (or so Rahat Hashmi would have him believe) only adds to his helplessness. He’s not falling for Rahat’s sincerity act- but he does second-guess himself. Mohini and Mrs. Mirza vanished into thin air- did the great and powerful Rahat Hashmi do the unthinkable? Well, with Rahat Hashmi, nothing is impossible- unki koi haisiyat nahin thi ke mein unke saath koi karawayi karta…

image image

Meanwhile, Mohini and Mrs. Mirza have relocated to Muree with Sharfu Nana- even though Sharfu Nana is Asma’s Naani’s brother, he’s their only living relative (?) and is committed to taking care of them. Mohini is quickly sinking into depression so much so that she contemplates suicide- unfortunately, she has a miscarriage and the last glimmer of hope she had of ever reuniting with Omar is no more. Mohini and Asma lost everything they ever owned and though Asma tries to convince Mohini to return, Mohini has simply lost the will to live.

image image

Zara is back in town after having a complete recovery in rehab and her parents are eager to get her married off to Omar. I liked how Zara wasn’t ashamed of herself- she knew she had a problem and she knew she had to deal with it instead of living in denial. Her parents are quick to point fingers at her but refuse to share the blame.

image

Haniya is holding on to some test results and it appears that she may be pregnant. Instead of rejoicing with the news, she shares her concerns with a family friend- Dr. Nisar that Rahat never wanted anymore children. I’m beginning to wonder if Zeb is his daughter- the timelines are kind of confusing. Rahat left Chittagong in 1971 as was repeatedly mentioned. Assuming Zeb was born sometime around then, she would be well in her 40s by now. His waris Omar is about 26 and he’s supposedly going to become a father again… Something just doesn’t seem right. For a man who thrives on control, it’s hard to believe that he hasn’t tossed Zeb out- she came right out and mentioned a certain someone who begged him to stay. Whoever she is, she knows something about him that he has concealed from everyone else. Why would he allow someone like that to remain living in his home when she could potentially send his life in jeopardy? How are the two of them connected?

image image

Today’s episode was high on emotions and once again, Sana Javed was phenomenal. OKB is a fine actor and his fear coupled with concern was spot on; I am liking the toned down Farah Shah very much and even Tara Mahmood is growing on me- she’s a nicely written character with a heart of gold. Usman Peerzada has been fabulous as Rahat Hashmi and I can’t wait to watch his downfall. Let’s see what’s in store for us next week. Iss se ziada kya bura hoga???

Digest Writer – Episode 19!

Ohkay so, looks like they’re on a way to wrap this drama up that’s why some major revelations & realizations are unravelling & I think Fareeda & Shaukat have reached their breaking point & either one of them will walk out of this marriage but by the looks of it, I think it’s going to be Fareeda who will decide whom she wants in her life & whom she doesn’t.

I really liked the scene between Naghma & Fareeda. ‘Dua ke saath bad-dua na dain’, just a few words but they carried another level of depth in them. Fareeda knows that every single step that she took towards her progress came with a huge price that she had to pay to be able to hold onto it, that’s why she is done with wishing for something better to come to her. At least it is good to see that after FIL, Naghma is being supportive of Fareeda. Naghma knows she can’t do much as she herself is dependent on her family but the least she could do is offer some emotional support to Fareeda & she was at least trying, which is very kind of her.

I can’t emphasize enough on how much hatred I am feeling for Shaukat & his Amman. They are absolutely merciless & think they are Fareeda’s responsibility now. Even after Fareeda has done so much for them, she is still falling short of everything because their demands are not coming to an end. The scene where Fareeda & Shaukat went to shop for Surraiya was done really well. It depicted the status of their relation to perfection where Fareeda wanted everything for her daughter because she loves her but Shaukat tried to cut the corners because he is not at all emotionally attached to Surriaya & thinks she doesn’t need all this. I just can’t imagine that the guy who only wanted to get married is coming across as such a person wasn’t mentally ready for a lifelong commitment because he hasn’t been able to do justice to both; his wife & his daughter too.

Obviously there was a lot of emphasis on Fareeda’s earnings because that’s the only thing related to her that’s important to all those who’re living with her & even to the one who isn’t living with her & that is Najma – other than that, no one really thinks of what she wants. Fareeda has obviously started to give words to the thoughts about Shehryaar that often cross her mind. We really thought that she succeeded in forgetting him completely but as Fareeda confessed, it never really happened & she couldn’t take him out of her mind because she got nothing in her new life that could replace the good memories she had of him. Shaukat hasn’t done anything for Fareeda at all so it’s imperative that she missed Shehryaar’s presence in her life all this while but then it’s commendable that Fareeda tried her level best to adjust into this relation & she gave away everything she had just so that she could please Shaukat & his family even though she never fell in love with her husband

The showdown between Fareeda & Shaukat was gripping too. I felt that at that point what Shaukat also said was right to some extent BUT BUT BUT having that that I also feel that it was just a bad attempt of making an excuse for his infidelity & what he has done is absolutely wrong because forget about the major things, the least he could do for her was to stay loyal to her. He just couldn’t justify what he did therefore very conveniently he tried to put all the blame on Fareeda but the way she reacted & countered an argument was spot on too. She has done everything in her might to make this marriage work but now if Shaukat thinks he wants someone else, I really think there’s no point of staying in this marriage where there’s no love, respect & sincerity left. When Shaukat was saying all those things to Fareeda, I just wanted to smack & remind him that he was the one who told her to stop writing, he was the one who told her that she had to take care of household chores & now when Fareeda submitted to his will, he came up with a shameless excuse saying that just because Fareeda couldn’t pay attention to him & herself, he decided to move on while being married to her. Yes, Fareeda was indifferent to him, Fareeda wasn’t happy with him BUT she never gave him a reason to cheat on her & for this, I really wish Fareeda divorces him & finds her own happiness. Shaukat also forgot that the papers he was taunting her about are the source of her income & even if Fareeda loves writing, who is he to question her about it? When he felt she shouldn’t write, Fareeda stopped & when he felt the need of her money, he asked her & she started writing, so when Fareeda sacrificed the thing she loved the most for him, how can he say that it’s the only thing that’s important to her? Fareeda hasn’t been given any option to decide things for herself ever since she got married but Shaukat is completely forgetting that.

I was so glad to see Mazhar Hayat being questioned & grilled for losing the drama written by Rushk-e-Hina. I so want to see how he’ll contact her & request her to write for his channel once again. I just so want to see his ego getting hurt too because he needs to understand that gone are his days & its Rushk-e-Hina’s time now. I really like the character of Umm-e-Maryam too, she comes across as such a nice person who truly respects Fareeda & is inspired by her. I really like the fact that they have kept all the supporting characters complete & have even worked on their natures because no matter which role they are playing; positive or negative, small or big, they all actually come across as genuine & real.

I enjoyed watching this episode a lot & now when the drama has almost reached its finale, I really feel that I’ve formed a bond with Fareeda in fact with all the characters. Every single person has acted so well in this serial & Saba Qamar has convinced me to become her fan in Digest Writer but I must say Gohar Rasheed has taken a role of annoying aashiq/husband to a whole new level with his minute & unique expressions. He is a flawless actor & it actually shows that he has given his 100% in each & every scene because he made us laugh & now he has forced us to hate him too & only a few powerful actors can achieve this in just no time. Totally impressed by everything related to Digest Writer; its script, its direction, its casting, its characterization, its dialogues, its picture quality, its attention to detail & in short, every single thing. Jackson Heights – Episode 21!

My Goodness! Excuse me for saying this but Jackson Heights is turning out to be such a drama that I regret watching because the plot is weak & the characters are weakest. I really tried hard, I really did but now I feel like I can’t bring myself to lie about it because I am not at all enjoying this drama & looks like when it’ll end, I’ll have nothing good to say about it at all & just because of this episode, I’ve decided I ain’t going to sugar-coat things because hadh ki bhi hadh hoti hai!

So, Mr. Writer must’ve gotten an ego boost once again by showing another independent woman crying & in literal sense begging a man not to leave her? Let me just ask was this shot in America trying to show independent American women or was it shot in Dhok Hassu where women are told to stay dependent on men all their lives (not generalizing but just being metaphorical). I really wanted to feel something for Cathy but truth be told, she came across as just another psycho on the loose who kept on changing her emotions & expressions. I mean when she pleaded Bhatti to stay, she didn’t make sense because she was least bothered about him when he was around & later when she threw a hissy fit, she once again made herself look mentally challenged because she just couldn’t bring herself to one conclusion & that was whether she loved Bhatti or not, because if she did, she would’ve been happy seeing him happy & would’ve allowed him to leave easily. One of our readers pointed out last week that every other woman in this drama is shown weak & frankly speaking ‘stupid’ & when I pictured Salma & Michelle, that term seemed right but after looking at Cathy’s reactions in this episode, I can undoubtedly say that this is exactly what the writer here was trying to convey that Pakistan ho yan Amreeka, auratain mardon ke baghair ghuzara nahi kar saktin beshak wo kitni hi independent kyun na hon? I mean what Cathy did was so unlike her because she was actually headstrong & didn’t like Bhatti’s interference in her life at all & as much as I know about her, Cathy would’ve been the one initiating the divorce after feeling that this marriage wasn’t working but then again, writer just wanted to make his male characters superior to women beings & that’s why if we take a good look at all the female characters, they’d come across as weak, naive, gullible & inferior to men because there’s Salma who loves getting exploited by a ‘man’, then there’s Michelle who’s acting like a high-schooler because supposedly a charming ‘man’ has successfully wooed her & then there’s Cathy who didn’t have much self-respect & begged a ‘man’ to stay. I am glad that Aliya wasn’t involved with any ‘man’ in this serial because I am sure if she was, she would’ve sold her Haseena beauty paarler to please her ‘man’ as well. Wow! What a ‘man’-ly script depicting a typical ‘man’-ly mentality!

Accha bhai, we know that Imran’s elder brother & his bhabhi are putting vultures to shame, they’re the worst people ever & only Imran’s return to Pakistan can ease out his mother’s khansi, but then, were those scenes necessary? Nope, not at all! We’ve seen Ma Jee’s ‘khansi’ getting more coverage & have understood it’s nature better but I so wish if they had shed half as much light on shaping the real natures of all the characters then it would’ve helped us in forming some sort of a bond with all of them.

So, Jamshed decides to threaten Rizwan just when he knows that Michelle is right in the kitchen & she can overhear him, but nothing of that sort happens because looks like Jamshed’s love is also preventing Michelle’s hearing sense from working too. I mean, in ‘normal’ situations, a girl (I’d call Michelle a girl because even if she’s not, she’s acting like one) would always be interested to listen to what her man & her best friend are talking about? She would love to see the two men who mean a lot to her are bonding well or not so wouldn’t she be curious to eavesdrop or even if not eavesdrop in literal sense, she would at least try to overhear what sort of conversation are they having? But we saw Michelle walking with a chai tray in her hand as if she was gone out of that apartment to fetch a tea & had nothing to worry about.

I must say the director really tried to make this episode a lot more happening than it actually was but just because we had nothing to carry forward with us, nothing in this episode seemed right. The whole cheekhna chilana of Cathy was enough of a shocker for me to actually digest how Jamshed fixed his wedding date. I mean he’s so lucky that he can just emphasize on the I (immigration) word right in front of his audience (Rizwan) just after his proposal & Michelle doesn’t seem to notice.

Allayyyy, Michelle tow choti shi baby hainnnnn, wo shulplizes ka shun ke booottttt khush ho jati hainnnn, ishi liye wo chahti hain ke unki behan ko wo shadi kal ke shulplize dainnnn ke shuno shuno Maliaaa, meinne shaaddiii kalllll liiii….khekhekhe, accha mujhe bataowww tumhe mele bete ki umal jitna mela hushbanddd kaishaa laga? Ouch! I mean, I so wish Vasay had used Imaan to play a role of Michelle, I must say it would’ve looked a lot more convincing because the way Michelle has been reacting, it’s making me cringe. They could’ve easily shown that Imaan’s (supposed Michelle’s) parents had left her with a fortune & she was an heiress, so Jamshed easily trapped her, matlab jab tuk hi chorhni thi, to aisi hi sahi, kam az kam tuk mai kuch tuk to nazar ati.

Accha, can someone tell me if Salma is a human being or a farishta because I’m seriously confused!?! A guy can hit you repeatedly, can almost strangle you to death, rushes with a gun in his hand to kill the ‘man’ you love & there you are; touching his feet to ease his pain, selling your jewellery to clear the hospital bills, popping pills from the bottle kyunki sartaaj ki dawaai ka waqt hua chahta hai, listening to his mother’s taana’s, going to work to earn the bucks to feed them, carrying a painful expression on your face thinking you’re trapped & after all that you just can’t walk out on these miserable parasites because you’ve gotten used to being mistreated? Salma learned that Imran has already taken a major step in his life & he is ready to give away the dream of getting a blue passport & then there she is, can’t seem to make up her mind to pack this mess & throw it out of her life (Imaan excluded). I still can’t digest the fact that Imaan doesn’t know what’s going on between her mommy darling & sweet Bhatti uncle? I mean they could’ve shown that Imaan sensed it the moment she saw them together & had supported them actually because that would’ve made a lot more sense to say the least.

I really tried to keep an open mind about Rizwan/Michelle relation & I even remember saying this in one of my previous reviews that their age difference does not matter at all but the way Michelle is making a fool of herself, the way she is following Jamshed blindly & the way she is allowing him to use & betray her, I just can’t forget the number that’s also known as biological age – her age!?! I mean if at heart Michelle feels she’s still a 16 y/o getting married to the love of her life, that’s fine by me but Michelle trust me – you can run, you can hide but you can’t escape the biological clock, my friend (& by the looks of it, it’s pretty evident that that you’ve escaped the brains if not anything else)!

Sadqay Tumhare – Episode 18

This episode was like a roller coaster ride; it was thrilling, filmy to the core and the developments in tonight’s episode were completely unexpected. Just when I thought that there might be a very pleasant surprise in store for the viewers things took a turn for the worse. I am sure many viewers like me went from smiling for Shano and Khalil to feeling for them and wondering what the future had in store for them. Shano and Khalil’s happily every after was just three qabool hai away when Rasheeda played her final card which unfortunately worked like a charm. The last scene of this episode was extremely intense. Rasheeda has changed everything in Shano and Khalil’s life forever and I don’t have any doubts in my mind any more about Rasheeda’s intentions. She wanted Khalil dead or imprisoned and things were going perfectly according to her plans until Khalil badshah decided to play the hero he is! Unfortunately passing in every exam is not as easy as Khalil thinks. Khalil was certain that nothing could stop him now and even though Shano was not happy with the secret nikkah before she wanted to go ahead with it because she knew that either she could get married to Khalil or her parents will force her to marry Mushtaq. Mushtaq’s “obedience” and “innocence” after Khalil managed to “kidnap” him was hilarious but happiness is short-lived!

ST

A play set in a village would have been incomplete without Nasreen Qureshi; watching her on-screen is always a pleasure and seeing her playing the Khala who remembered Khalil’s naughty ways but thought he was worth helping anyway was surely a delight. Sadqay Tumhare has to be one of those very few plays in which some of the most versatile and seasoned artists have played the role of supporting characters. Rasheeda always has a shocking twist in store at the end of every episode. Rasheeda will never let Shano have her happy ending because nothing matters to her more than her own happiness which most often depends on making others miserable! All those men with arms and ammunitions could not “accomplish” what Rasheeda managed to achieve! I felt for poor doctor, muft mei itni maar khani pari!

This is one play will definitely be remembered for a very strong cast and brilliant acting. The director Ehtesham Uddin has turned this love story into a visual treat. I enjoyed every single scene in tonight’s episode because it added something to the developments in the story and most importantly kept me hooked right till the end. Sadqay Tumhare always manages to hold my attention to the extent that I am completely oblivious of my surroundings and lost in the world of all these intricate characters waiting for another interesting development in the story that will blow us away or simply enjoying the conversations that tell you more about the characters or will eventually lead to something big. This episode had to be one of the most engrossing episodes of Sadqay Tumhare till now which ended at a very sad note. Mahira Khan and Adnan Malik’s expressions were priceless in the last scene. This was one situation which was out of Khalil’s control, he does not know Rasheeda as well as his daughter knows her. Sammiya Mumtaz made an appearance only in the last few minutes of this episode but the repercussions of her actions and her commendable performance had a lasting effect. Most of the actors in this drama are definitely very powerful performers who alone can keep you glued to the screen but the fact that their characters are also very intriguing is definitely a plus!

The preview of the next episode showed a very different Shano. What turn do you think the story will take from here? Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Sultanat-e-Dil Episode 5-12

0

The love story of Nawab Wajdan Shah, the heir to Riyasat Shahpur and Anoushey, a regular city gal. Throw in Wajdan’s mother Begum Nawab who wants to get her only son married to his widowed bhabhi, Rania, and then Nawab Safdar who wants to rule the Riyasat by throwing Wajdan out. This was Sultanat-e-Dil few weeks ago.

As the story unfolded, Safdar made a plan to “help” Wajdan and Anoushey run out of the country. He had his own interests of course, and when Wajdan found out, he refused to follow Safdar’s plan. Then Begum Nawab came to save her son.

All of this angered Safdar. He called Anoushey’s husband to his daaku-like place and offered him a lot of money if he promised to make her parents believe that she is a psycho and then divorce her.

Pictures4

Wajdan and Anoushey gave in to their parents’ demands and after the official crowning ceremony, Wajdan got married to Rania while Anoushey’s rukhsati took place.

Pictures3

Wajdan and Rania were not comfortable in each other’s presence after the wedding and acted weird during all the rasoomat. Rania had to listen to Begum’s continuous lectures on how a waaris will strengthen her. On the other hand, Anoushey was tortured by her husband every second after their wedding. He hit her, called her a cheat and even tried to kill her once, but he acted like the most ideal husband in front of her family and made her a psycho in front of her parents. Then he sent her the divorce papers.

10347486_1586274334921379_5974683670499709597_n-001

Rania and Wajdan eventually started to like each other and began enjoying each other’s company. Rania accepted him as her husband and he accepted her as his wife but then Rania’s medical reports came in, which Begum had ordered herself. They proved that she could never be a mother and Begum put down her demand, “Wajdan has to do a doosri shadi”.

10347486_1586274334921379_5974683670499709597_n-002

Then came the big twist as Safdar called Anoushey and Wajdan to his place. Both were unaware of the other’s arrival. Safdar showed himself as the good guy. He kidnapped Anoushey’s husband and beat him up in front of her, claiming to take her revenge. Then he brought Wajdan and Anoushey face-to-face.

The love sparked once again and they got married secretly. Yes, the doosri biwi is in the picture! Safdar succeeded because now he can use Anoushey as an excuse to force Wajdan to leave the country and escape from Begum Nawab’s clutches. This was his plan all along.

Wajdan tried to convince Begum Nawab. Isharon mein hi sahi, that if she wanted a second daughter-in-law so badly, why not Anoushey? But she is a stubborn woman and if she says she won’t accept Anoushey, she won’t!

10945015_1586276211587858_5743158408580593991_n-001

There are positives and negatives in the story. I have enjoyed the love story till now but the cliched second wife tale is not what the viewers want to watch.

What could be better? Well, honestly speaking, a lot.The weird camera angles in Begum Nawab’s scenes should be taken care of immediately. Asma Abbas’s makeover is a huge downer. Fazila Abbasi’s makeup is much better but the prettiest lady in the show is Sarah Khan. Her dresses are simple yet stylish and the overall makeover is nicely done.

In terms of acting, Yasir Mazhar has nailed it. It was hard to believe he was Rudaba’s cowardly brother in Bashar Momin. Almost all the actors are doing fine too but with two exceptions; Alyzeh Rasool and Asma Abbas. Alyzeh needs to bring some strength into her dialogue delivery and expressions. Asma Abbas overdoes her widened eyes every time. Sarah Khan is giving the same performance she has given many times before.

Main Bushra- Episode 22

0

I heaved a huge sigh of relief when the teaser for Main Bushra’s second LAST episode graced my TV screen and it seems like someone wise knocked some sense into the director. Now that I come to think of it, whatever happened in this episode could’ve easily been covered in last week’s episode but then again, ARY had to stay true to their motto, ‘what’s a drama without some dragging?’ However, I thank ARY for at least not treating Main Bushra the way they treated Shukk, Shikwa and Chup Raho- I wasn’t expecting this play to end before the 25-episodes bracket so it’s a greatt feeling to be proven wrong (in a positive way of course) by ARY plays :)

safe_image.php

Even though the afsurdagi continues, I can’t help but admit that this episode was far better in terms of the direction, dialogues, acting and most importantly, PACE. Where it’s true that the overall episode was well-directed and happening, I really feel that they could have cut the first half short because it had soo much to do with dull and dreary flashbacks that I felt like dozing off. The second half, contrary to my expectations, was pretty engaging; I could very well relate to the turmoil of emotions, plus the actions and reactions of all the characters were easy to understand. I don’t quite get the purpose of adding the touch of Faraz’s accident when it actually had nothing to do with the development of the story. Since the last two weeks or so, they have made Faraz’s accident sound like Archduke Ferdinand’s assassination but seems like it’s not very significant because apart from wasting a considerable amount of screen time on the good-for-nothing flashbacks, his accident didn’t affect Shayan or Sabiha or Bushra in any way whatsoever. Haan, the only thing that came out of it was how Shayan recalled his gehrayy discussions with Faraz and realized the wisdom behind his brother’s words: muhabbat agar mashwara hoti tou tum say pooch kar karta! Even though Faraz is out of sight, what he did still has so much to do with the story. Faraz was shattered because his mother, driven by her own desire for revenge, destroyed the woman he loved and this turned him into a sadist and in turn, he destroyed the life of an innocent girl like Bushra who had absolutely nothing to do with Sara. Bushra fears the repetition of history; Shayan is the object of Sania’s affection and Bushra thinks that if she doesn’t walk out of this relationship, the cycle of resentments will just not come to a halt. I simply loveddd the dialogues, ‘Ek aur Bushra jo apnay maa baap ki muhabbat mein hi dhoka khajaye.’

By the end of the day, we all are human beings and even though some people can tolerate a great deal as compared to others, there’s always a limit to tolerance so this time around, Bushra’s pent-up emotions gave way to an outburst. Shayan tries to lend Bushra a shoulder to cry on only to find Sania interrupting them and as revealed by the promos,  the cat is out of the bag! For so long I was expecting Shayan to take charge of the whole situation but the disclosure of Shayan and Bushra’s marriage was purely coincidental; I actually wanted to see Shayan breaking this news because that way we’d have been able to see how far can he go for his love for Bushra. I have to praise the writer for penning the characters of  some exceptional mothers and Sania’s mother has to be my favourite because the way she maintained her composure for the sake of comforting her daughter- I loved it and I was pleasantly surprised because I had already prepared myself for some very longg emotional scenes and sequences in the hospital. Thankfully, she turned out be a level-headed mother who decided to face the facts without allowing her emotions to take over. I don’t think Sania’s reaction surprised any of us and rona dhona is something you should prepare yourself for whenever ‘aeee rabba’ thing starts :P. Acha, Sania talks fondly of those great childhood days when Shayan was always there by her side and she blames Bushra for ‘tum nay uss ko mujh say dur kardiya’ but my question is that woh qareeb tha hi kab? Shayan was always distant and aloof and even if they were good friends at one point, I’d have appreciated if the director would have shown their friendship earlier on- all we got to see were a bunch of Skype calls with an over-excited Sania discussing her plans with a constipated and more or less mute Shayan so I kind of missed the ‘dosti’ touch between the two. Keeping this in view, Sania’s obsession with Shayan is more or less as unreasonable as Sunbal’s obsession with Numail in Tum Meray Hi Rehna (thank God it ended!!). I hate to see Bushra holding herself responsible for everything that’s going wrong in Sania’s life because I think if there’s anyone to blame, it’s Sabiha! She has been one of the most ineffective characters of the play- sirf philosophy jhaarnay kay illawa she has been of no good use. She came up with implausibly perfect solutions for Bushra’s problems and when Sania and her parents stepped in, she quite conveniently chickened out-I found her approach a little selfish and unfair.

Bushra decides to move out (probably the best decision she ever made for herself) and that’s when Sabiha steps in with her pet-phrase: Bushra meri baat tou suno.  I am also very glad that Bushra is now spilling the beans about her marriage to her mother. I must say that Sofia and the drastic change in her approach towards Bushra- it’s all making sense to me and I am also enjoying the exchange of words between Nasir and Sofia. Tumhe yeh faisla karna hoga kay tumhe apni aagay ki zindage maa ban kar guzarni hai ya biwi ban kar. A mother is always stronger than a wife and Sofia has had enough of listening to her husband rather than her conscience. She loathes the money she got in exchange for Bushra. The conversation between Bushra and Sofia was well-written and I think Saba Hameed and Mawra Hocane share great chemistry as far as a mother-daughter relationship is concerned.
