“I will not have a semi-clothed woman dancing in my film to entertain people.” – Hamza Ali Abbasi

0

Hamza Ali Abbasi takes pride in the fact that he does not want to stick to hero roles only although he is the perfect candidate for the job. He mesmerized the viewers with his impeccable performance in Waar and Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi. The drama lovers were impressed by his work in Pyare Afzal but Hamza Ali Abbasi says, “People expect you to be a hero, you’re young , you look a certain way and people perceive you a certain way, and you end up being typecast. I don’t want that. Being a hero doesn’t involve a lot of acting. I love a challenging role because I’m not a hero — I’m an actor. In Kambakht, I deliberately play an ugly, crude character.”

Untitled3

While talking about his upcoming film Kambakht with Dawn News Hamza Ali Abbasi said that direction was his first love. While talking about his experience as a director he said, “I could have done much better as a director……It’s a full-time job behind the camera, and it’s a full-time job being in front of it. In the future I will not act in any film that I direct.”

Hamza Ali Abbasi added, “The film is an indie comedy….“I deliberately chose to make a comedy because I wanted to make people laugh. It doesn’t try to be anything else. I wanted to see if we could even make a film that was two hours’ long. If people are laughing for a third of that time in the cinema, for me, that’s good enough.”

Talking about upcoming films and those that have already been shows, Hamza said, “Jalaibee is another film I’m looking forward to, because I know it’ll entertain me………Tamanna was technically sound, but as a cinemagoer, it didn’t draw me. Seedlings is an excellent film, but it didn’t bring people to the cinema. We need comedies. The primary motive to make films has to be entertainment — there can’t be a divide between that and creating awareness.”

Hamza said, “I’m being pressured right now to put an item number in the film. When it comes to giving something to the people, I don’t think we should make nudity and vulgarity a part of entertainment. We shouldn’t want people to appreciate it. I will not have a semi-clothed woman dancing in my film to entertain people. I think that is the lowest form of entertainment.”

Untitled2

Hamza Ali Abbasi does not believe in the Bollywood formula to make hit films at all. He said in the interview, “If the Bollywood formula was going to make a film successful, MHSA would have been a bigger hit than Waar.”

Talking about his future ventures, Hamza Ali Abbasi said, “The next film that I’m planning is in collaboration with the ISPR….“It has a strong female in the leading role, someone who is pretty awesome as a character. The ISPR has just come onboard regarding this; we need their military support and logistics to pull this one off.”

Hamza Ali Abbasi also hopes to make a film on Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. We wish him all the best!

Nickelback’s “Edge Of A Revolution” Video Endorses The Azadi March

0

Nickelback is a Canadian music band that was formed in the year 1995. According to Wikipedia, “Nickelback is one of the most commercially successful Canadian groups, having sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and ranking as the eleventh best-selling music act, and the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S. of the 2000s, behind “The Beatles”.

The latest single by Nickelback titled “Edge Of A Revolution” is getting tons of attention in Pakistan especially by the PTI followers because the video of the song features among other revolutions in the world, the Azadi March by Imran Khan. There are pictures of Imran Khan and PTI flags running in the background while the band sings the song.

Untitled1

The lyrics of the songs are as follows:

“Edge Of A Revolution”

Head high, protest line
“Freedom” scribbled on your sign
Headline, New York Times
Standing on the edge of a revolution

Hey, hey, just obey.
Your secret’s safe with the NSA
In God we trust or the CIA?
Standing on the edge of a revolution

Yeah, we’re standing on the edge of a revolution
Revolution, revolution, revolution

No, we won’t give up, we won’t go away
‘Cause we’re not about to live in this mass delusion
No, we don’t wanna hear another word you say
‘Cause we know they’re all depending on mass confusion
No, we can’t turn back, we can’t turn away
‘Cause it’s time we all relied on the last solution
No, we won’t lay down and accept this fate
‘Cause we’re standing on the edge of a revolution

Wall Street, common thief
When they get caught they all go free
A brand new yacht and a finders fee
Standing on the edge of a revolution

Same shit, different day
Can’t keep fed if I can’t get paid
We’ll all be dead if the shit don’t change
Standing on the edge of a revolution

Yeah, we’re standing on the edge of a revolution
Revolution, revolution, revolution

No, we won’t give up, we won’t go away
‘Cause we’re not about to live in this mass delusion
No, we don’t wanna hear another word you say
‘Cause we know they’re all depending on mass confusion
No, we can’t turn back, we can’t turn away
‘Cause it’s time we all relied on the last solution
No, we won’t lay down and accept this fate
‘Cause we’re standing on the edge of a revolution

We’ll all be dead if this shit don’t change
Hey hey hey hey

What do we want? We want the change
And how’re we gonna get there? Revolution
What do we want? We want the change
Standing on the edge of a revolution

What do we want? We want the change
And how’re we gonna get there? Revolution
What do we want? We want the change
Standing on the edge of a revolution

No, we won’t give up, we won’t go away
‘Cause we’re not about to live in this mass delusion
No, we don’t wanna hear another word you say
‘Cause we know they’re all depending on mass confusion
No, we can’t turn back, we can’t turn away
‘Cause it’s time we all relied on the last solution
No, we won’t lay down and accept this fate
‘Cause we’re standing on the edge of a revolution

What do we want? We want the change
And how’re we gonna get there? Revolution
What do we want? We want the change
Standing on the edge of a revolution

What do we want? We want the change
And how’re we gonna get there? Revolution
What do we want? We want the change
Standing on the edge of a revolution

The song supports revolution as a means to get any kind of change in the system. It supports revolutionaries all around the world and tells them not to give up. Watch the video and see for yourself.

Aahista Aahista – Episode 15!

0

Tauba Tauba! Don’t you hate it when a 45 y/o conniving man stammers to prove he’s innocent? Don’t you hate it when a person who’s supposed to die (Bumble Bee) lives because only God knows which chakki ka atta she ate? Don’t you hate it when you have to watch Aahista Aahista, Aahista Aahista?

*Sigh* apni taraf se becharon ne bara hi koi twist dala tha, which actually made no sense at all. Haya was swinging on her Sartaaj’s shoulder when she & Awazaar got busted. That point was ohkay, but what didn’t make sense was that even after Sofia caught them red-handed, she said all the things she wasn’t supposed to say but forgot to utter one single word & that was WHY? WHY was Haya clinging onto Awazaar like that? WHY did Awazaar let Haya get so close to him? During that confrontation I thought this would be the time when Awazaar will spill the beans but oh boy! I must ask Bumble Bee ne isay kya kha k paida kiya tha? Itna dheet admi? My Goodness!

1

I thought after finding out the flick between Haya & Awazaar, Sofia will pretty much understand what was going on but still someone who has been so literate & in her right state of mind couldn’t reckon the fact that Haya could be Awazaar’s wife of all the things. Amidst the havoc, Sofia was more worried ke Awazaar ke nashtay ke anday thanday na ho jayein. Give me a break!

I think this slap should’ve been enough for Haya to wake up from her deep slumber that even shows the signs on her face now but I don’t think she got the point still? If Awazaar had loved her as much as he claimed, he would’ve swooped in the cat fight & told Sofia about Haya’s status but just because he lisps, wo apni baat samjha na saka. Even when Nowsherwaan Uncle asked him, he returned without even answering.

The only time I felt bad actually for Awazaar was when he burnt the toasts. I mean, isn’t it so sad that he is deprived of hearing the POP sound of an automatic toaster? :/ It’s like music to ears when one’s preparing the breakfast but I think just because Awazaar was born in the 1950’s, that manual toaster belongs to that era, hence it requires one’s complete attention otherwise you’ll see your brown bread turning black, acting more like a mirror to you so that you could face your kalay kartoot. :/ I actually feel so bad that I’d request all the readers to observe a minute of silence please! *pop* woot woot, my bread’s ready!

3

Haya went to Nowsherwaan uncle’s place, but after that she vanished like a Casper. Kahan gai kisi ko kuch pata nahi? But Sofia took it as an opportunity to clear off Haya’s belongings, as if she had so much? All this while I thought Awazaar was living in a mansion but seems like they didn’t even have a space to accommodate Haya’s letters.

Sofia overheard Awazaar talking to Bumble Bee on the phone & still she was in a denial or let’s say had no mind whatsoever to connect the dots to understand what was going on behind her back? In the initial episodes when Awazaar goes to Pakistan, we heard them both talk to each other about Haya where Sofia even asked Awazaar that Haya was his baby cousin or so & for this reason I just don’t understand what took Sofia so long to realize that Haya was no one else but Awazaar’s cousin & possibly his wife?

Looks like seriously is drama mai Awazaar ka koi kaam hai hi nahi because the ladies do everything & take things in their hands & for this reason Sofia decided to break the ice & let Bumble Bee know about herself. The things Bumble Bee said to Sofia showed that Bumble Bee was under the influence of sedation inflicted by the sleeping pills she takes.

2

Finally, Sofia has found out that her Awazaar is not so innocent & she shouldn’t fall prey to his lisping methods to measure his innocence. The preview of the next episode to be honest looked engaging though. LOL! Itna kuch hone k baad shayad waqay hi mai they want to show us something. I honestly believe that they all sighted a mood for a vacation & when they landed there, they decided to make a drama to kill the boredom. Seriously, I wish this drama ends soon & not at all Aahista Aahista!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Now what are your thoughts on this “Naya Pakistan” where Meera is planning to be the first lady.

Namaloom Afraad, coverage in electronic media

Namaloom Afraad is an upcoming film releasing on Eidul Azha. It was announced in a press conference in Karachi. Surprisingly the event is not covered widely in electronic media. The media partner of this film is Hum TV which does not own a news channel. In leading news channels of ARY News, Dunya, Express, Dawn only Geo News covered the event widely and here is the news report. Interestingly the report has not covered lead artists of film Fahad Mustafa (Associated with ARY) and Mohsin Abbas Haider (Associated with Dunya Tv) who work for other channels.

http://vimeo.com/105466322

It is after a long gap that Geo News has covered a Pakistani film (Dukhtar is also covered being distributed by Geo films) , otherwise Geo News and other channels of this group as well as Jang Group of publications have a complete blackout on coverage of films like Waar, Zinda Bhaag, Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi and others despite record breaking success of Waar. Instead Geo and Jang group served all their energies on promoting Bollywood movies released in Pakistan in the same time period being distributor of these films under their sub entity Geo Films. The main reason could be the rival ARY films as distributor or something else not known to public. Since crisis of Geo Tv from mid May 2014, Hum Tv is serving as media partner for the films which were expected to be released by Geo films like Kick on Eidul Fitr.

This time Namaloom Afraad is covered by Geo, but ARY group has skipped it perhaps due to business rivalry. Summing up the discussion i think the entertainment desk of all media channels need to come out of their prejudice and cover all the entertainment and cultural activities which are not channel specific.

Shikwa-Episode 18

0

My God! I am all praises for today’s episode. I must say this play has stood out primarily because of it’s natural (not to forget unpredictable) twists and turns. The incredible thing about this play is the fact that the main developments will be nowhere near your expectations. And I think this is exactly where the writer succeeds :)

Needless to say, the highlight of the episode for me was Mehar and Sidra’s emotional confrontation. Mehar’s character has to be one of the MOST natural characters of the season. And the writer,in particular, has etched it out perfectly.

Untitled

Initially, it was sad to see Mehar preferring a guy like Yasir (for whom she had nothing but strong contempt) for her very own sister. Since our heroine is conscientious, deep down, she knew that what she is doing is by all means wrong and unjustifiable. But there were a couple of things that literally led to Mehar’s change of mind. Firstly, that conversation with Saqib proved to be an eye-opener, because it was then that Saqib talked sense into her and rightly pointed it out that it’s her jealousy that’s compelling her to see her own sister go through the same bitter circumstances that she went through. And then, of course, the scene where Sidra poured her feelings. Mehar then realised how her envy had concealed all the love and affection she had for her sister. Seeing Sidra helpless and teary, Mehar realised that if she couldn’t have a life partner of her choice, at least seeing Sidra with the guy she wants to be with would serve as redemption. Watching that particular scene, I couldn’t help pushing this thought out of my mind: Kaash Sidra ka role koi aur actress play kar rahi hoti!! Hayee- me and my wishful thinking :'(

Untitled1

One good thing was to finally see Mehar’s mother standing up for her daughter. She wasn’t that strong-headed when it came to Mehar but at least she mustered the courage to support Sidra in front of her extremely manipulative relatives. I thought ‘blood was thicker than water’, but now I am thinking of  challenging these proverbs :P

Untitled2

I think now is the right time to end this play. This was the 18th episode and I am expecting it to end within a week or two. The viewers are enjoying it, the charm hasn’t faded and we are getting a strong underlying message, so what’s the point of dragging it now? We don’t want it to suffer the dreaded fate of ‘Shukk’, do we?

I am eager to see what you guys think of the latest episode. So please share your thoughts!

Firaaq – Episode 1

0

This first episode was very engaging; it kept me glued to my TV screen right from the get-go. Drama serial Firaaq has been written by Mustafa Afridi, directed by Aabis Raza and produced by MD Productions. The first episode introduced the viewers to all the main characters in the drama and their backgrounds. The main protagonist of the play Payman (Sanam Saeed) is a Pakistani American who may have been living in America for a long time but her controlling and conservative mother (Uzma Gillani) does not allow her to adopt anything that is American. Not only that, Payman has grown up in a very strict environment, she is constantly judged and criticized. Payman is not happy with her life because of her situation. Her mother has a very desi set-up in which she is the boss of the house. Her second husband plays a second fiddle to her because she runs a restaurant and runs the house therefore she has no respect or regard for him either (anyone remember Bilquees Kaur?). Yes, Uzma Gillani’s character reminded me of Bilquess Kaur because Bilquees’ husband and children used to get the same treatment from her too. Bilquees was also loud and bossy and she had a very desi set-up in her house. The only big difference is that Payman’s mother is not playing the lead in the drama and she is probably not going to be around for long either but her character definitely seemed to be inspired from Bilquees Kaur’s character. Payman’s step-father (Syed Mazhar Ali) on the other hand is a very soft-spoken and easy going person. It was great to see Syed Mazhar Ali on screen after a long time.

firaaq

Payman’s brother Shams (Junaid Khan) left his mother’s house when she remarried after her husband’s death. Sham’s wife Sara (Cybil Chaudhry) wants to have kids but Shams made it very clear to her before they got married that he did not want any children. Sara meets a family friend (Noor Hassan) and shares her worries with him and he suggests that she should see a counselor. The counselor (Mohib Mirza) suggests that Sara’s troubles will only be over if she can reunite Shams with his mother. Personally, I did not agree with the advice at all because anyone with such an authoritative, suspicious and unreasonable mother would not want to have kids because they would not be sure if they will be able to give that child the kind of life which every child deserves. I felt like Shams is too afraid that he may not be able to be a good father that is why he does not want kids. Anyway, Sara decides to meet Shams’ mother and what an interesting meeting that was! Shams’ mother may regret losing her son but she is not very eager to win him back either!

The preview of the next episode promised another happening episode therefore I am definitely looking forward to it. Sara’s plan to get the mother and son back together is going to backfire in the worst way possible. Sanam Saeed looked really cute in those glasses and she owned her character. I could feel all the pent up anger and frustration in her expressions, body language and voice. When I first heard Cybil Chaudry talk I thought her voice was dubbed but by the end of the episode I liked her character and acting. Junaid Khan is not among my favorite actors but he is definitely well-suited for this role. I am waiting to see more of Mohib Mirza and Noor Hassan.

Overall, this was a very promising beginning. All the scenes were short and to-the-point , the characters are interesting, the story has potential and the episode was very well-directed. It was refreshing to see so many talented young actors on-screen. I wish people who are responsible for writing the plots of dramas online would not have access to more information than the viewers would like to know. I read the plot summary online and now I know exactly what is going to happen next! I highly recommend this first episode to anyone who has not watched it yet.

Humaima Malik signs three more Bollywood movies in India

0

Humaima’s Bollywood debut Raja Natwarlal has already been released on 28th August. Initially Humaima was into dramas and has worked in Pakistani movie Bol too. About this contract, she said:

I have a three-film contract with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The first film is yet to begin but I have already been signed up. I guess he is caught up with P.K. now.

Also, it was heard through some sources that UTV has refused the signing of three films with her. She said:
That’s not true, I’ve heard this before but honestly it’s all humbug. I have no issues with UTV or Emraan Hashmi. I was signed by UTV for only one film.

She was asked that there would be a lot of work now, so does she plan to move to India, on this Humaima quipped:
I think I have already moved to India for good. There was a time when I used to juggle between London, Dubai and Pakistan. Now, India has become second home.

When Humaima was asked about the unsuccessful career of Pakistani actresses like Veena Malik and Meera, she said:
As far as I know, the last Pakistani actress who made a successful debut in Bollywood was Zeba Bhaktiyar.I don’t know of any other Pakistani actress in Hindi cinema. I’d like to follow in Zeba’s footsteps. I’m clueless about so-called Pakistani actresses in Hindi films.

It is quite an honor for a Pakistani actress to get three movies at a time. We hope that Humaima makes successful change for Pakistani artists in Bollywood.

Namaloom Afraad to release on Eidul Azha

Ongoing political turmoil has so far also impacted the planned entertainment activities like release of films. Namaloom Afraad due to release in last week of August was also postponed. Now the film is scheduled to be released on upcoming Eidul Azha,

It is a commercial entertainment film in the backdrop of situation of Karachi of Comedy/Thriller genre. Its cast includes Fahad Mustafa, Jawed Sheikh, Mohsin Abbass, Urwa Hocaine, Salman Shahid, Umber Khan, and British actress Kubra Khan while Mehwish Hayyat has a guest appearance in an item song. The film is produced by Fizza Ali Meerza and directed by Nabeel Qureshi. Khalilur Rehman Qamar interview

0

Drama writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar has been a household name after the overwhelming success of drama Pyare Afzal. KRQ is writing dramas and films since 1996 (as far i remember). Being based in Lahore all of his dramas were also produced in this city until 2012-13 when his drama Manjali produced in Karachi was aired on Geo TV. Manjali received mixed reviews but his writing style impressed the drama producers of Karachi. Later more dramas produced in Karachi are aired i.e. Pyare Afzal (ARY Digital) and Bunty I Love You (HUM TV). Pyare Afzal was widely viewed and provided nation wide recognition to KRQ again. Yes again, because KRQ was very famous in 1998-99 when his drama Boota From Toba Tek Singh was very successful.

KRQ is recently interviewed by Voice of America (VOA) Urdu, and its complete content is also posted here. The content is in Traditional Urdu script. The full interview can also be listened below.

The whole content and interview is taken from link http://www.urduvoa.com/content/article/2430275.html

Meray Humdum Meray Dost – 2nd Last Episode

0

For the first time in this entire show, I felt bad for Sajeela ; Not because of the fact that she was rejected by Haider Masood but because of her ex-husband for whom Sajeela was merely a jackpot and he used her just as an ATM machine for earning muft ka revenue,as much possible as he can. She came back to Pakistan with a hope that Haider spent those years by thinking about her only but she was proved wrong. Haider kept on avoiding Sajeela for so long but this time what Sajeela did was something beyond his level of patience – She insulted rather accused Aiman and that was unbearable for him.

1

Just after Haider broke the ice, her credulity vanished with in a moment and that was nothing but a slap on Sajeela’s face. Bibi was right, after spending those carefree years with her ex-husband , as soon as she got to know his reality , she reverted back to Haider. Neither was Haider an absolute scum nor was he so desperate that he will accept and welcome Sajeela whenever she feel like coming back to him.I mean how could she even think of returning back to him after leaving him the way no one expected her to leave ?

I am so glad that Taufeeq paid heed to what Aiman asked and got convinced after knowing what was in her mind. Afterall, he learnt this lesson from his own life – marrying Zainab and then living his life without his daughter was the hardest fact he ever faced and now that his daughter is standing at the similar spot, he didnot want her to face the same situation that he did. And to add icing on the cake was Saahir’s vote in favor of his father.. chup karwa dya donu ne Almaas ko..

Keeping everything in his mind that happened lately, Haider decided to get married. He didnot want any questions on his and Aiman’s relation and as soon as he felt that situation is getting out of his hands, he went to Dubai to propose Fatima. Bibi was shocked to hear the news because all this while , she was thinking that Haider will marry Aiman and now that he announced his wedding, she was unable to figure out that what exactly is cooking in Haider’s head.

2

Poor Aiman felt as if she was in the middle of nowhere ; For her, Haider was the reason because of whom she smiles and now that he himself is ready to snatch the smile away from her, how would she be able to remain quiet and to not confess her love for him. She pledged Haider and asked him again and again to marry her but Haider resisted to confess his feelings for her – he was doing this for his own self because he knew that he was way elder than her, he was doing that for her because he didnt want anyone to see Aiman with suspicious eyes and more than that, he was doing this for them kyu k Haider sab kuch bardaasht kar sakta hai magar ye bardasht nahi kar sakta k usay koi ye kahay k uss ne Aiman ke masoomyat, uss ke kam umeri ka faida uthanay ke koshish ke hai.. but he knew that none of them will live a happy life with his very step.

Next episode will be the last one and I am so going to miss this show. But I am glad too and that is because they are winding it up at right time so that the charm of the show remains with us for long. Preview of next episode looks interesting and after a long time, we will finally see one happy ending..

I would love to read your feedback on second last episode of this show.

Madiha Khalid & MasterChef Pakistan!

0

Cover

Madiha Khalid; a contestant from Islamabad who grabbed the attention of the viewers ever since her first appearance on the show. She was the most energetic, talkative, enthusiastic contestant that the judges came across in the Islamabad auditions. The moment her journey began, she came forth as someone who wasn’t scared of experimenting with the dishes she created for the judges to taste, raising the bar high & the expectations higher. Madiha has also been one of those contestants who got a privilege to judge one of the rounds alongside the judges. Even though she emerged as a very strong contender, somewhere down the line she fell in a deep pit probably because of her surroundings, but she recollected herself, held her head high & proved herself once again by earning herself a spot in the finale where she filled the position of 2nd runner up of the very first season of MasterChef Pakistan. Be it her crab dessert or those cutest accessories that she adorned her scarf with; Madiha Khalid played her bit with dignity & grace by never involving herself in the controversies whereas it was pretty evident that people around her definitely had some issues. Well, that’s all done & dusted but the experience that Madiha has to share is still very special.

She was kind enough to share her thoughts with us, so let’s see what she has to say.

Q) What inspired you to come to MasterChef?
A) Close family members and friends knew about my cooking passion and skills. One of my friends “Sahar” (bless her) is a big fan of MasterChef Australia, when she found out about MasterChef Pakistan she insisted and encouraged me to take part in it. That is how I ended up in MasterChef Pakistan.

Q) What do you think about the format of the show?
A) Format of the show is very interesting because you don’t know what’s coming your way. Every single day in the show is a different day as you don’t know if you are going to get surprise, advantage, black apron or elimination.

Q) How would you define the three judges? Please tell us about them individually.
A) A tough question as all of them are senior and respectable judges.
Chef Zakir:
He is strict as he always looks forward to a perfect method, perfect dish and perfect smell of the food.
Chef Khurram:
He is a bit less strict than Chef Zakir however when it comes to food he checks everything such as presentation of the food, right combination of colors and the taste of the dish.
Chef Mehboob:
He is easy going and my husband’s favorite judge however when it comes to food he is strict too. Sir Mehboob always looks forward to some new, unique, different and experimental dishes that taste good.

Q) Do you think judges have stayed true to the seat & have not been biased?
A) No, I don’t think they were biased or unfair; I actually had a privilege to sit with them to judge. They had a criterion, they discussed good and bad points of each dish, then they shared their opinions before they came to a conclusion and that was just to make sure that the result was fair.

Q) Many times, it was felt that the judges favored some contestants & didn’t eliminate those who seemingly deserved to go, is it true?
A) I disagree; it’s not true however everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. I think they were fair and the positions that they stand in didn’t happen overnight, so we should respect their decisions in regards to the eliminations.

Q) Do you think the current panel of judges is good enough? If you feel the judges should be changed, who would you prefer?
A) Yes, the current panel is good, all these judges are professionals and highly skilled. It’s up to MasterChef team which judge they bring in or take out but as far as I am concerned I would not change any judge.

1

Q) How did the judges treat the contestants? Do you think they should’ve been friendlier?
A) Judges treated contestants very fairly, however they all have different personalities, different ways of approaching, and teaching but at the end of the day whatever they said to us was for our own benefit but yes a friendly way of teaching is a bit better.

Q) During the show, it felt like you had a tough time with the co-contestants; please tell us something about it?
A) When I was dominating the show a lot of contestant could not digest that and then there was a lot of politics, disturbing comments that happened against me but I believe actions speaks louder than words and by the end of the day I made it to finale which they didn’t, but honestly speaking I have got nothing against them as it nature of the show that people always compete to make their mark and I wish all of them good luck.

Q) Who were you friends with?
A) I got along really well with Gulnaz, Ammara and Sidrah.

Q) After watching the episodes, do you think the format & execution of the show & episodes needs to be improved?
A) There is always room for improvement. I think team MasterChef should consider diversity and better editing but at the same time we should not forget that it was first season of MasterChef Pakistan so overall it was great.

Q) What are your comments on the politics among the contestants that got covered in the show?
A) I believe there should be no politics in the show.

Q) In the personal VT’s were the contestants encouraged to speak about your co-contestants or it was completely your choice?
A) Speaking about myself, it was my own choice completely. Some of the contestants might have gotten influenced by their friends but I really have no idea.

– Please define your co-contestants in one word:
I don’t know them very well but regardless of my experience with co contestant, I will try to think of one positive attribute of each.
– Sidrah: Sweet Voice
– Mudassir: Quite
– Iqra: Nice
– Gulnaz: Innocent
– Amna: Confident
– Khurram: Sweet
– Azam: Cool and Calm
– Saad: Boss
– Zain: Kindhearted
– Rayyan: Naughty
– Ali Shah: Amazing
– Anila: Funny
– Adnan: Philosopher
– Mariam: Caring
– Ammarah: Loving

Q) What advice would you give to those who’re interested to appear in the next season?
A) It’s going to be tougher season so prepare yourself well, polish and practice your skills and increase your food knowledge as much as you can.

Q) In the end, please share your experience & feelings about being a MasterChef contestant & what did it teach you?
A) It was a great experience; it’s just like a dream come true. I lived there far from family just because of my passion. Pantry was my most favourite place. It was like a roller coaster ride, I had my ups and downs but at the end of it, I was over the moon and very thankful to God for giving me so much of respect. It definitely taught me a lot of things, one of them being that the interviews can be so hard, hahah. Well jokes apart I have learned a lot of tips, tricks and ins and outs. I have finished my economics and management degree from University of London however I believe I belong to food Industry so I am going to carry on and try to make it as far as possible in the food industry. Last but not the least, one of the most important lessons that I got from this experience was that dreams do come true as long as you are serious and passionate to achieve your goals and dreams.

So, this was it from Madiha Khalid. Share what you felt about her honest answers & a message to her from you. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

The MasterChef “Friends”!

The first MasterChef Pakistan contestants were all talented and creative. They all had their focus on presenting the best food to the judges and along the way, they became friends with each other.  This friendship continued after MasterChef Pakistan season 1 ended.

Mausam – Episode 16

0

Mausam has been a very slow play till now but all of a sudden things are moving forward rather quickly. Hashir’s father finally decided to call him today, he listened to him and confronted his mother but there was nothing new about what Hashir said to his mother because he has always believed that his mother was responsible for the separation between his parents. When Hashir finds out the next morning that his mother has gone to the doctor he decides to go after her but when he finds out that his mother has already left and spots Saman’s mother there, he conveniently forgets all about his mother but is more concerned about setting things straight in Saman’s life. I am glad that we were not shown the details of what went on between Faisal and Saman after he saw her in Hashir’s office. Even after going through so much Saman’s sole concern is saving her marriage.

Shazia on the other hand thinks she has hit a jackpot, she is finally going to get the man she always wanted….so basically mission accomplished! I am waiting to find out how she is going to convince Faisal to accept this marriage since she is the one who has been telling Faisal that Hashir is interested in Saman. I am anxiously waiting to see how Faisal reacts to the news of Shazia and Hashir’s marriage because I can foresee Karma taking care of Shazia’s future from now on (or it could be my wishful thinking!) Surely someone like Shazia cannot get away with everything that she did; she will eventually have to pay for all that she put Saman and Hashir through.

mausam3

Saman surprised me yet again with the change in her personality when she is around Hashir. It is strange and ironic that all of Saman’s lectures and words of wisdom are for Hashir’s ears only. Also, her common sense works only when it comes to Hashir. She took seconds to put two and two together when it came to figuring out Luqman’s connection with Hashir. She must be one of those people who will do anything for family, even if that family is a back-stabbing cousin or Khala or an abusive husband, but she will never trust someone who is not part of the family. Hashir is definitely not a stranger to Saman but the way she told him off was actually very surprising; I had no idea that she knew that Mehreen was interested in Hashir too since even Hashir found out that Mehreen had feelings for him only recently. And when did Saman find out that Hashir likes her? Saman is definitely not the sort of person who can just figure something like that out.

Shazia’s conversation with her mother highlighted her mother’s double standards even more. It looked like she knew exactly what her daughter had been upto all these years. She did not want Saman to be there when Hashir’s mother came and she was very sure that Faisal could create problems – now what does that say about her? Looks like Saman’s mother is going to keep the big secret all to herself, she is the only one who knows exactly what Shazia has been doing to her daughter for all these years but for some odd reason she feels absolutely no need to confront her even – not that it is going to do any good.

The preview of the next episode showed that Faisal threatens to divorce Saman, yet again and Hashir plays “the savior” with flying colors! I am glad that the story is finally moving forward and at this point I am looking forward to Shazia paying for whatever she did to Saman more than anything else.

Another Song Of Khoobsurat Is Out

The new song of Fawad Khan’s upcoming Indian movie Khoobsurat is out. The song is titled “Maa Ka Phone”, it is a funky number with a very colorful video. Unlike the previous song of the film that focused more on Sonam, this one has Fawad and Sonam both.

Here is the video of the song:

“Nabi Ji Salam” Is Touching And Thought Provoking – Watch Video

0

The song “Nabi Ji Salam” has been written by non other than Anwar Maqsood and has been sung by Fuzon. The video of the song and its lyrics are touching. The video will make people think about the divide between the rich and poor in Pakistan. The song asserts on the importance of education for children. It shows children of poor families whose basic needs are not met because of  lack of finances. These children work in people’s houses or labour in the workshops but they dream of something very different from the kind of lives they are living.

Pehchan – Last Episode

0

“Aap ko happy ending pasand hai na? Mujhe bhi!” Because happy endings don’t always mean that a couple with the most dysfunctional marriage resolves all their differences magically in the last episode. Sometimes happy endings can be convincing too. Laila preferred Saadi’s friendship even though Mansoor did his best to convince her that she was lost without him. Tonight I felt like Mansoor really was desperate to get Laila back not only because he wanted to control her but he wanted her back in his life. People like Mansoor do not change of course and I am glad that Laila knew that only too well, which is why she refused to take him back. Mansoor realized that he had lost someone very precious and there was no way to win Laila back now, regret and remorse was all he was left with. It was good to see Mansoor’s real self coming out when Laila told him that the marriage was over because otherwise the change in his personality would have been unpersuasive.

Laila’s mother’s ego did not allow her to accept her daughter for what she was now wholeheartedly but the way things were moving forward there was definitely hope for the future. Mrs. Khan consoled herself with lies like always; yes some things never change and I am glad that Mrs. Khan’s track was wrapped up like this because people’s lives and personalities don’t change overnight. Kukoo and Khurram ended up being good friends; Kukoo’s letter to Khurram at the end was elaborate and pretty much summed up everyone’s life.

I am glad that Pehchan ended tonight because even a die-hard fan like me was feeling that the conversations were getting repetitive. The ending was gratifying in every way, I could not have asked for more. I think Pehchan was the best play of the season because it excelled in all the departments in which a drama can stand out. Bee Gul and Khalid Ahmed gave a brand new treatment to an age-old story and added the zing which a good drama needs. It may have been too slow and unconventional for many viewers therefore it did not the kind of attention that commercial plays get but I hope that will not stop the producers, writer and the director from continuing experimenting.

p1

I feel like I owe Bee Gul in particular a big thanks for not banking on the more easy (which don’t require a lot of thinking) and conventional ways to get attention from the viewers. Her dramas have not been getting the appreciation which they truly deserve but she continues writing artistic scripts and does not rely on run-of-the-mill-stories. All of her characters are multi-layered and definitely not black and white, with the exception of Laila’s mother. Her characters are so real that you can’t help but connect with them, feel for them and understand them even when it is a character as negative as that of Mansoor. I also love the way these characters are revealed to the viewers gradually; the way Laila and Kukoo’s journey of self-discovery was penned down and executed was perfect. I would really like to see a male character as the main protagonist in one of Bee Gul’s upcoming plays because until now she has been focusing on women leads.

Khalid Ahmed brings out the best in Bee Gul’s scripts because he understands the depth of the characters and the narrative. Not just that he made Pehchan a masterpiece by making it esthetically pleasing. Khalid Ahmed’s direction proved that he believes that his viewers are just as intelligent as he is unlike most Pakistani directors who think that the viewers will not understand the underlying messages in the story unless they spoon-feed it to them. There were quite a few scenes in every episode that conveyed the feelings and situations of the characters beautifully even when there were no dialogues involved. I personally feel that Pehchan was a labour of love; Bee Gul assisted Khalid Ahmed herself which must have made a huge difference too and which goes to show how seriously she took this drama. The Director Of Photography Naveed Malik deserves special appreciation for a job well done. A big shout-out to the producers Seema and Razi-ud-din Ahmed for giving the Pakistani viewers a reason to believe that there are still people out there who care about more than just the TRPs. We definitely need more people like them in the drama industry.

p2

I really want to thank the person/s responsible for choosing the cast. It was an absolute pleasure watching Alishba Yusef play the character of Laila. Laila’s feelings and personality underwent a major transformation within two years of her marriage and Alishba Yusef portrayed different shades of Laila’s personality impeccably. Sohail Sameer outdid himself as Mansoor. He played the bad guy without going overboard, it is amazing how a good script and direction can bring out the best in an actor. I don’t have enough words to praise Iffat Omer; everything about her was perfect from the acting to her make-up and hairdos. Parveen Malik played Laila’s mother’s role very well and her character which was very different from the roles she has played till now. We may not have liked her character for obvious reasons but she was definitely in her comfort zone. Qazi Wajid and his character both were adorable; the chemistry that Qazi Wajid and Alishba Yusef shared on screen brought the father-daughter relationship to life. Anita Camphor did complete justice to her character, she is a very gifted actress.  Sumbul Shahid played the role of the proud mother of a son perfectly. Fawad Khan unfortunately brought out the worst in Khurram’s character, he has a long way to go! Faris Khalid and Saad gradually grew on me in the last few episodes but in the beginning he was sticking out like a sore thumb. I think the reason for that could be that Faris Khalid wasn’t very comfortable with Urdu language. The OST of the play was beautiful, Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry coupled with Arshad Mahmud’s composition and Erum Nafees’ beautiful voice gave the viewers a song which they can listen to over and over again.

Watching Pehchan and reviewing it every week has been a delightful and insightful experience. A big shout-out to all those readers who read the reviews regularly and shared their thoughts here.

Did you like the ending? Do share your thoughts.
