Hania Aamir and Emmad Irfani are currently garnering praise from KMKT director Badar Mehmood for their brilliant performance. Badar Mehmood is the brilliant director of hit drama serial Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum. He has also directed dramas like Ishqiya, Cheekh, Mein, Mujhe Pyar Hua Tha and others.
Recently, he made an appearance in Fuchsia Magazine’s YouTube show, hosted by Rabia Mughni. In the show, he praised all his leading actors but he particularly mentioned Emmad Irfani and Hania Aamir’s humbleness.
Talking about Emmad Irfani, he said, “Emmad Irfani is an amazing person to work with. He is the most humble and gentle person of showbiz. His etiquette, his demeanor tells that he belongs to a very good family. He always talks to people with respect and kindness. I have worked with him in Cheekh too. Even Hania Aamir and the girl playing her younger sister also asked him how he is so patient. He is the gentleman of the Pakistani media industry. And yes, he has brilliantly performed his character Adeel. He exactly delivered the performance that I needed from him”.
Talking about Hania, he said, “I have worked a lot with Hania Aamir in the female leads. Hania is hands down a positive energy on the set, she never comes with an off mood on the set. She doesn’t let the scene go without putting in an effort. She now understands me and whenever I panic she says that the scene will happen smoothly. She is aware of my mood swings. She often calms me down when I shout at the set. Fahad and Hania make sure to develop a good bonding with the cast members.

He also praised Naeema Butt for her brilliant performance and her hard work. The director mentioned that Naeema used to put a lot of efforts in creating her scenes. He also said that he chose Naeema because they wanted a different and off the beat cast member for Rubab’s character. Her face was not known for the fans and she aced her character and delivered the kind of performance that was needed on the screen for Rubab. Here is the link to the video:
This latest episode of Kitni Girhein Baaki Hein was written by Khalid Ahmed and it showed another story of betrayal. This time around the ending was slightly less predictable and there were at least two twists in the story which had some shock value. The characters were well-defined which showed the clear vision of the writer and the director. The first scene of the episode showed Alia (Ayesha Omer) putting Ayaz (Hammad Farooqui) down because she thought he was a “loser”. Alia was shown as a practical girl who wanted Ayaz to get proper education and Ayaz was shown as someone who wanted easy money. Ayaz’s step-father (Aly Khan) on the other hand was shown as someone who was accomplished and mature but definitely not someone who was going to let his step-son dictate things to him. While the characters in the story were believable, the last twist in the story came out of nowhere and wasn’t very convincing. Even if Azmat and Alia had decided to be together, there was no reason for him to gift her the house. (Ambien) This last development could have been handled more intelligently.
The inclusion of the chess board and the manner in which Ayaz and Azmat played this game was a very creative way of showing the power struggle between these two people. I would give the person who came up with this idea full marks. The opening scene in the gym as well was a good start in terms of location. Also the relationship of the characters with each other gave this episode a different feel. The story was a little too simple at times but well-executed. The whole episode banked on three actors and all of them breathed life into their respective roles. Aly Khan’s stiff body language went well with his character, Hammad Farooqui was also well-suited for playing the role of someone who considered himself very smart when actually he did not even know what he needed to do with his life and Ayesha Omer owned her character as well. Her make-up however was rather disappointing, it was even more so when I read Nabila’s name in the credits. Ayesha Omer looks much prettier in Bulbulay and she does not need so much make up. Even her hair which usually look beautiful effortlessly did not look that great.
Overall, this episode was better than the last one but it wasn’t fascinating enough and somewhat simple. The production values, acting and the direction definitely stood out more than the overall story.

Kitni Girhein Baaki Hein was one of my favorite series because it was almost always quite enticing and unpredictable. The stories in the last season were bold; it is always great to see something on television which dares to be different and is captivating at the same time. Also, a good series gives the viewers an opportunity to watch the stars we see on screen very often in serials in different avatars. They get to make their presence felt even more because there is only one episode in which the whole story is presented to the viewers. Although the promos of this latest season focused more on the artists involved in this series than anything else yet I found myself eagerly looking forward to this first episode.
The first episode of Kitni Girhein Baaki Hei lived upto its tradition of being bold and crisp. It was directed skillfully and all the actors involved played their roles well. The story however wasn’t as new as one would have hoped for it to be. Also, most importantly the shock value of the final ending was next to zero because the ending was revealed in the promos, which in my opinion was not a very wise move!! The promo of this first episode showed all the important events and the final ending as well therefore I found myself waiting for what was about to happen knowing exactly what it would be instead of wondering what was going to happen next.
Despite of being extremely predictable, thanks to the promo, all the characters made their presence felt. This was the story of Rozee (Ushna Shah) just as much as it was that of Saba (Hira Mani). Saba’s obsession with cleanliness and her hatred for her new massi was shown clearly in all the scenes right from the outset. Rozee’s rejection of the advances from the driver but acceptance of Kamran’s (Hassan Ahmed) flirtation, said a great deal about her character. Men are most often shown in a negative light in this series and women are the ones who are the main victims, this episode also showed how a husband who seemingly loved his wife so much, goes behind her back and cheats on her in the worst way possible.
Hira Mani, Hassan Ahmed and Ushna Shah stole the show with their flawless performances. Ushna Shah in particular was very convincing as Rozee. The actress who played Saba’s friend however did not quite fit in because someone with such high standards wouldn’t have a friend like that! I hate to nitpick but Hira Mani’s dirty feet in the opening scene, weren’t very aesthetically pleasing even if she was running around without any shoes on! I hope that in the upcoming episodes the viewers will also get to see some strong women who are not just victims but fighters. This episode did not have a subtitle, it would be nice to see subtitles of each episode in the beginning. Kitni Girhein Baaki Hai always manages to “disturb” its viewers in some way because of the kind of truths which are showed in it daringly and this episode definitely fit the bill.

Kitni Girhain Baqi Hain has been on air for the past 6 months or so and has brought up some very interesting topics. While some episodes were a bit on the mellow side, some were outright controversial and others sent a chill down my spine. Women play an integral role in society yet their lives aren’t always as straight-forward as they hope. KGBH highlights some of the fundamental issues women face and how they try to break the barriers that weigh them down. Although not necessarily the right choice, these women make choices that they deem appropriate given the circumstances. Some of the episodes that struck a chord with me are listed below:
Episode 7- Jee Le Zara
Starring Saba Hameed as a widow living by herself and Ehteshamuddin as the plumber and next door neighbour, this episode focused on the loneliness experienced by an older woman whose children had grown up and lived abroad. She finds herself spending time with a man who clearly is a huge contrast from her but I suppose opposites do attract and she finds herself falling in love with him and taking a stand to marry him! This irks her grown children who severe all ties with her and on the fateful day of her wedding, she finds out that the man backed out and has reconciled with his wife! Saba Hameed was phenomenal in the role and her expressions and pain was perfectly portrayed. It’s considered almost unthinkable for a widow to seek comfort in a man and consider marriage especially once she’s old. So it came as no surprise that her children, despite being modern and living abroad did not seem to understand their mother’s need for companionship and shunned her.
Episode 10- Ghairat Mand
Sara Khan played the role of a young, working, middle class girl with a good for nothing brother. Her brother spends his time idling around with his friends and is heavily influenced by their thinking. As his friends insult and exploit girls in the neighbourhood, he starts thinking his sister is similar to those girls and in his head builds her up to be involved with a man. His suspicions end up getting the better of him and seeing a man jump out of his house, assumes his sister was having an affair and ends up strangling her to death with his bare hands only to realize that their house had been robbed and the sister was innocent all along! How often do we come across stories about honour killing and that too based on nothing but mere suspicions and hearsay!
Episode 11- Jhalli
Yet another story that we hear about- Ali Khan lives with his mother Sameena Ahmed and his wife who has been unable to conceive- On his mother’s nudging, he ends up divorcing his wife and remarrying a much younger woman- Sonia Hussain. She appears to be a little too childish but his mother keeps insisting that she’s “jhalli”. On a friend’s request, he visits a doctor and finds out that he is impotent and he was at fault all along- before he’s had a chance to absorb this wave of information, his new wife announces that she’s pregnant and his jaw drops! Was he really impotent all along or was the report a mistake? Is his wife having an affair? The ending left much to the imagination as it was open ended yet it highlighted a very strong issue that exists in our society where women are the ones to blame if they are unfortunate enough not to conceive.
Episode 20- Gudday Gudiya Ka Biyaah
This was probably one of the most disturbing episodes- Sabreen Hisbani plays the role of a woman who is poverty stricken with a very ill husband. She has 2 young children- a daughter and an infant son. She works in the home of a wealthy family and her daughter plays with the daughter of the family. From time to time, Sabreen gets hand me downs but that still doesn’t stop her from wanting more and she often steals too. When the maalkin of the house passes away during child birth, Sabreen becomes the caretaker and finds the head of the house showering her with wealth- it seemed like Sabreen would end up marrying the man but instead, in a shocking twist, while planning a gudday gudiya ki shadi, she ends up marrying off her barely teen daughter to the man in exchange for treatment to save her husband! Child marriage is such a cruel reality that exists even today and I hope such programs raise awareness of the evils of child marriage and help eradicate them.
Episode 23- Haadi ki heroine
I really liked how the episode showcased the current addiction with TV and social media. Uroosa Siddiqui is obsessed with dramas and imagines herself to be a character in a drama- she crosses paths with a guy- Umair Naru who flirts with her since he made a bet with his friends that he can easily lure any girl. Uroosa starts thinking he’s in love with her and starts playing out her fantasies- skipping class and even running away from her home on the night of her mayyoun and ends of slashing her wrists thinking her hero will come rescue her- little does she know that he’s simply a player and already has his eyes set on another easy target! While TV as a medium offers value in terms of entertainment, it also manages to make zombies out of the weak!

Brace yourselves. In these episodes, I actually felt a little bit of sympathy for Hamza. I know I know – outrage, disbelief – I hear you, but I felt bad for him for having a super annoying wife and a super annoying wailing mum as well. But it was a fleeting moment of weakness that made me feel that way for he really has brought this all upon himself and him chasing after Mehru is making me dislike him even more so the challu bar paani of sympathy I felt for him, I would gladly present to him to go jump in himself!
Ameer has gone to visit his mother. I do not understand why Ameer’s mother lives alone and has not moved in with Ameer and Mehr once he had his own home to live in? She does not have any other children or a husband so that part I do not get. Anyways, Ameer’s mother is adorable as he is but she senses everything is not as hunky dory as Ameer makes it out to be but he is adamant he is very happy and content in his marriage and life.
Mehru starts work and turns out her boss is Hamza. Uff when he said ‘come in’ and when he sat with his back to her how could she not recognize his voice or the outline of his head. I felt extremely uncomfortable that I was able to identify both and she was not – and Mehru apparently being in love with him and honestly – I am not! Promise! I was quite pleased when she told Maryam she would not continue working there so was very disappointed to see that she goes back to work the next day. Her ‘terms of employment’ that she laid out to Hamza did not impress me at all. Mehru keeps trying to stress that she has a strictly professional or innocent relationship with Hamza but I mean what is all this? Hamza knocking at her door knowing full well she is the only one at home? Employing her in his office? True, they are not being shown to embark on a full fledged affair or something but they are truly playing with fire and they know it.
The highlight of this episode not due to its amazing acting or beautiful dialogues or wonderful direction – but because I snorted with laughter was Hamza ‘packing’ his suitcase and announcing he is leaving! This guy really needs some male friends – all that women influence and that too of the Mareena-Shakra type is playing with his mind. I would not be surprised if he swooned and fainted soon!
And uff, Ameer ji ki adaayein! Poor Ameer really tries hard – the ring, the Eid suit, trips to the seaside, going along with everything Mehru wants – what else can he really do? Next week’s preview shows that Ameer will see Hamza drop Mehru home. I truly hope he will have a tantrum of sorts or at least demand an indignant explanation for Mehru’s behaviour is beginning to annoy me now. Her anger at Hamza’s mother telling her off, not listening to her sister advising her to keep her distance from Hamza and then acting all ‘holier than thou’ when laying out her conditions if she works for Hamza – really not working for me. One could argue she is not doing anything ‘wrong-wrong’ but she is definitely headed down a path which is questionable and she needs to shut Hamza out of her life to be able to move on and do justice to her marriage otherwise she should really leave Ameer.
I love how well each actor has blended into their character. The focus is more now on Hamza and Mehru so we are seeing more of Sonya Hussain and Noor Hasan and they have done justice to their roles. It is nice to see Firdous Jamal acting more his age – his quivering old men characters were beginning to annoy me. I do feel that the story should begin to wrap up now. It would seem obvious that either of two things will happen – either Mehru stays with Ameer or ends up with Hamza and I would have thought that it is as simple as that but in spite of me saying that the drama should begin to end now, I do hope the director does not ‘rush’ into the ending hence spoiling the whole pleasure it has been watching Kisay Chahoon.
Seems like no review is complete without Hamza’s ‘chameleon’ type dressing now that Mehru, Maryam and Ameer have all drilled how amazing his dressing is into my head. Enjoy! Would love to hear your thoughts on these episodes!
Well, well, well. All’s well that ends well. Ameer ko mil gayee Mehru and Hamza ko mil gayee Mareena – no, let me rephrase that. Mareena ko mil gaya Hamza. The past few episodes had me wanting to see this drama end and not be dragged out unnecessarily so I was relieved to learn the last episode would air on Thursday. Armed with that knowledge though when I sat to watch both episodes, I was reminded why I liked this drama in the first place and except for a few yawn Mareena-Dad-Hamza moments I did quite like the last episode.
Can I also please take credit for having guessed that Maryam was putting on an act? Up until these episodes I really liked Maryam’s character and she seemed so sensible so this sudden desire to marry Ameer knowing he loved Mehru was really odd and awkward. However, her expressions at times suggested she really was happy to marry Ameer so I was slightly confused. Slightly.
Mehru’s pained expressions, tears hovering at the brink of her eyes all made it quite obvious how she was feeling. But then her mother rightly said when her phuppo pointed out that Mehru looked worried keh agar woh pareshan hoti tau yeh naubat he na aati. Even though it was obvious she wants to be with Ameer I do wish we were shown a scene where she realizes that she can not ‘live’ without him as she says to him in the final scene. I know there were thoughts running through her mind when she signed the divorce papers but I don’t know, I wanted a bit more.
Mareena. She finally goes to see a psychiatrist who starts dishing out advice to her and I sat listening with an open albeit wary mind and thought okay not bad when he says to her that she should learn to control her anger. And then he throws in the trump card – have a baby! Professional psychiatrist hain yeh ya phir koi saas?! I am not sure what our drama writers think psychiatrists really are and what research goes into their ‘diagnoses’ and conversations when these dramas are penned. The psychiatrists in a few recent dramas such as Sangat, Unsunni and now this one failed to impress me.
Anyways, Mareena finally admits defeat but not before a final confrontation with Mehru. The scene between Mehru and Mareena was so awkward – poor Mareena truly did look psychotic. Meow! Mehru manages to convince Hamza that Mareena really does love him and he ‘forgives’ Mareena although I snorted out loud when he says to her please do not change the way you love me and aisay he pyar karti rehna. I thought okay, bring out the guns. Literally!
Hamza’s return to Mareena seemed much less believable than Mehru and Ameer’s reunion. But nothing really makes sense about Hamza and Mareena so I suppose this was a fitting end to their story. Finit. The look of incredulity on Ameer’s face was spot on when Mehru asks him not to leave her but Soniya Hussain’s brimming eyes and on the edge asthma were very distracting. I felt her scene was overly intense to the point that it did not seem genuine and although their scene together was sweet it did not have as much an impact on me as I thought it would. Or maybe I am being over critical.
I did find one thing a bit odd. Hamza and Mehru both do not declare they are in love with their spouses. Fair enough, Hamza was hell bent on marrying Mehru till the last minute. And Mehru does say she does not know how to live without Ameer anymore. But Hamza says to Mareena that he needs her to keep loving him the way she does and Mehru also says to Ameer that I do not know where I would ever find anyone who can love me as much as you do. Ameer and Mareena’s love seemed to draw both Hamza and Mehru back to their respective spouses – I suppose it would take time for them to fall in love themselves too.
Ali Abbas has been the star of this drama. Kisay Chahoon itself was a very ordinary story but it made for a pleasant watch especially the first 10 episodes or so with Ameer’s comic moments. But when Ameer became a heartbroken bechara, the drama began to lose its charm which is why I am glad that it was not dragged out further and ended leaving me with the feeling that it was a decent drama. Iqra Aziz and Noor Hasan seem to be paired in a lot of dramas and frankly I do not want to watch any other drama which has these two in it. Soniya Hussain is a good actress but like I have mentioned before – her crying puts me off. Firdous Jamal and Pari Hashmi fit really well into their roles too.
This is the first drama I have been reviewing from the first episode to the last yayy. I would like to thank all the readers who took time out to comment and appreciate my reviews and shared their thoughts here. One thing is for sure – I will definitely not miss Ameer’s white kurta (how many did he have anyway?!) nor Mareena’s white clogs (I think it was the same pair throughout!!).

Aap mujhay jaan se bhi maar dain gay na tab bhi nahin choron gi aap ko – epic! I have watched lots of dramas over the years but this has to be one of the best dialogues as far as believability and dialogue truly matching the character goes. Because I do believe, even if Hamza killed Mareena – she still would not leave him and would find a way to haunt him – oops, lurrve him and be around him! Ha!
So, Ameer our miskeen majnu is moping around at his mother’s house, waiting for what – Mehru to sign the divorce paper? Ameer’s ‘bechargi’ is beginning to annoy me – correction, it had begun to annoy me a few episodes ago and is just getting worse. We felt for him when he married Mehru and she was nasty to him and when she asks for the divorce but really hanging around with a long face is worrying his mother now too and he should probably try to begin to come to terms with the end of his marriage – or whatever it was he and Mehru had.
It appears that Hamza’s mother Shakra went to bed one night and had a soul/heart swap and woke the next morning a different person. Her change of heart is brought upon by the guilt that Hamza has suffered enough, physically and mentally and ‘deserves’ Mehru now. Mehru’s mother although a bit taken aback at first, seems to agree that this is the best thing for Mehru now and has suddenly grown a backbone and takes a stand against her husband, insisting that this is in the best interest for Mehru and that is that.
Mehru. Mehru needs to stop talking to her mother. Her sister. Definitely Hamza. I would say her father, but they rarely talked. And Ameer has switched off his phone so she can not talk to him either. She needs to connect with her own head and decide Hamza? Ameer? None of the above. And spit it out. Convincingly! Why was she meeting Hamza then? To ask him why his mother spoke to her mother about their rishta. Then why not ring him? Surely she could ask him that over the phone. Yes, I am beginning to believe she may not feel for Hamza now but then why this constant need to meet and talk to him to show people that oh look I meet him, you can talk about us all you like but in my heart I know I have no feelings for him and that’s all that matters, so there! Sounds weird, doesn’t it? I think so too!
Hamza apparently is quite clear that it is Mehru he wants and he wants nothing to do with Mareena anymore. Mareena however seems to have also undergone the same spiritual transformation that Shakra went through. She has not turned over a new leaf entirely, the way Shakra has not either – half baked spiritual transformation if there ever was one – but she has started to do more than scream, yell and flounce. I did find her sitting on the ground outside Hamza’s house such a silly scene though. Hamza however minces no words nor actions in showing Mareena he wants her out of his room, his house, his life.
I do believe parents want what is best for their children. I am a parent myself and sometimes a child can not see yet what an adult can sense is in best interests of the child. But when your grown adult son or daughter is so very clearly miserable over a decision you find appropriate – surely emotional blackmail and force is not the way forward? Mehru’s father did not like Hamza and he forced Mehru into marrying Ameer. Now, Ameer who is so clearly in love with Mehru is being emotionally blackmailed by his mother to remarry – and that too Mehru’s sister! When their father was strict about Maryam not continuing her studies, she did not cave in and was more firm than Mehru by taking a stand and moving out to Mehru’s house. Surely he can not believe he can coerce her into this marriage? He does say he does not believe in imposing the decision on Ameer and Maryam but I do not see any of them jumping at the opportunity. Except – next week’s preview suggests Maryam has a very different reaction to what we would have expected. I can not help but wonder though if she is calling Mehru’s bluff to see how she reacts. Either way – I find the whole Ameer-Maryam rishta to be in poor taste.
I am past caring about Hamza and Mareena now. Despite all her psychiatrist appointments and moving into Hamza’s house I would find it hard to believe that Mareena would find peace in her new home and life.
I understand a drama needs to be stretched into 20 some episodes to make it a drama for the story is quite simple and if they were to race through it then we would not have a drama! But still – I feel it should be wrapped up now and hope the drama ends next week. Ameer, Mehru, Hamza, Mareena – are all beginning to annoy me now and need to sort out their lives asap!

I drew a sharp breath. My body tensed in anticipation. The voice in my head begged no, no, oh God, please no. I saw Hamza lying in the hospital bed and I felt sick. Oh because Hamza got shot? Heck, no! Because Mareena’s father said Hamza’s mum was on her way and I braced myself for her wailing!!
These two episodes finally got the ball rolling for what we had been waiting for. Mehru’s mother tells Ameer he should not put up with Mehru anymore and should divorce her. His ‘Mehru ji has a right to live her life’ is seriously annoying me now. Anyhow, my annoyance did not linger for long for the thoughts Hamza planted in Mehru’s mind in the previous episode began to bother her and she asks Ameer for a divorce. She feels she is doing him a favour by asking him to leave her for she does not love him and thinks he should not be suffering because of her and should move on with his life.
Ameer’s expression was so spot on when Mehru began her speech, not understanding why she had to wake him at this hour to tell him he has a ‘beautiful heart’. I was disappointed with his reaction though. I expected something, a plea, a question, a remark. He just went back to bed. Sorry, bed tau becharay Ameer kay naseeb mein nahin tha ever since he came to the city. So, I will rephrase – he went back to sleep on the floor again. Waisay before Mehru wakes him he did look so bechara lying on the floor sleeping with his mouth open. Ameer. Sigh!
Anyways, come morning and Ameer is nowhere to be found. I could relate to Mehru’s worry because she does not hate Ameer – she just feels she can not live with him and is actually being unfair to him by being with him. Whether Mehru is weak and easily swayed by Hamza for believing in that is another story. I almost gasped for a second time when Ameer says to his mother that these ‘baray shehr kay laug kay dil pathar kay hotay hain, pyar ko nahin samajhtay’ and thought whoa, did he say something negative about precious Mehru ji – finally?! But then his ‘miskeen’ everything in the name of Mehru ji’s happiness got my feathers ruffled again. This guy!
Meanwhile, Mareena’s insecurities and possessiveness are growing by leaps and bounds and she shoots Hamza. Haha! Okay, so she did not really intend to but that struggle ended with Hamza getting shot and landing in the hospital. We learn Mareena’s mother left her husband and daughter behind to be with another man. To make up for any insecurities, her father pampers her and gives her anything she lays her eyes on. However, Hamza has had enough and does not want to stay with Mareena again and leaves the house after agreeing to not divorce her and to continue working at his father in law’s office – am not sure what that deal was about then!
Back to Mehru and Ameer. I do not understand why Ameer sends a letter and divorce deed by courier. Why not just leave them at home when he left? Stick a note to the fridge or by her bedside table? It was interesting though to watch Mehru read the letter because what Ameer writes makes it appear as if the divorce is for the benefit of Mehru and not Ameer as Mehru would have liked to believe. I wonder if that is why she is reluctant to leave suddenly or because she does not want to go back to her father’s house. Surely when she asked for a divorce she knew she would need to leave then why the cold feet now? I liked though how her mother put her in her place and took charge.
I am not sure how Mareena will react to her father and Hamza both giving her the cold shoulder. Next week’s preview shows her father encouraging her to go bring Hamza back. Hamza’s mother seems to have had a change of heart after Hamza’s outburst and wants Mehru and Hamza to be together but Mehru seems to be singing a different tune when she tells Hamza she does not feel anything for him anymore. Bhayee, if it is not Hamza and not Ameer, then please announce it from the rooftops so we all know!
Ali Abbas and Soniya Hussain are definitely the stars of this drama. I felt nothing for Noor Hasan (or Hamza? – I can not decide who annoys me more!) . He looked pitiful and the ‘mazloom aurat’ in the scene when he speaks to his father in law and says ‘iss sub mera kia kasoor tha’!.Later, I could not believe how much he was jostling his own (wounded!) arm when he is yelling at his mother!
I am glad things have begun to move forward with the story. I wonder if Mehru signs the divorce paper. I just hope that Mehru’s indecisiveness is not dragged out now and they wrap up this drama. The end appears to be predictable which is fine for now, but will not be if the drama stretches.

Aaaaaaaaaaand she’s back!! Mareena with her super bright gleaming eyes, menacing smile makes her appearance at the very end of the episode. Seems like she was able to ‘dodge’ the American doctors after all huh?
Ameer returns home along with his mother only to find Hamza dropping Mehru home. I really wish this guy would grow a backbone now for this timid nature has gone on for far too long. That – was my initial thought. But then Mehru reminded me of the ‘understanding’ she and Ameer have when she tells Hamza that she is only with him temporarily. So I remember the conversation she had with him at the dinner table when she said she only needed to be with him until she was able to financially support herself.
But Mehru confuses me. She is ‘nice’ to Ameer, cooks for him, worries when he is late. She tells him he is a good person but she can never give him the love or the respect he deserves. So what is this all really now? Ameer and Mehru waiting for Mehru to become financially independent and then leave? And Ameer secretly hoping she may fall in love with him before that? Although it is nice not to have to sit through Mehru yelling and treating Ameer with disdain, but this whole scenario does not seem to work either. I wish now truly that something would happen for this state of affairs has been dragged on enough. I know Ameer seems resigned to the state of his marriage – but I am getting annoyed now!
Ameer’s mother instantly sensed all was not well between Mehru and Ameer. She did mean well when she mentions the doctor issue and I get that the mum in laws in our dramas and even in real life to an extent start getting impatient about ‘khush khabri’ but it is the way it is talked about which is disturbing as if it were some sort of accusation on the woman, even in the most normal of circumstances. And ‘yahaan tau issue he alag hai!’
Mehru is not very convincing with her ping pong game of running to Hamza for help at the drop of a hat and then being outraged at anyone suggesting she has questionable feelings for him. If she really does not feel anything for him and knowing the history between them would it not be the most sensible and rational thing to do to quit her job there and not contact him? True, tongues do wag but in this case, she is not justified in giving them a reason to wag in the first place! Either be with Ameer or be with Hamza!
I say that in each review now so I sound like a broken record. Which is why I hope things are shaken up a bit in the next episode. Mehru was totally out of line sharing her marital life details with Hamza no matter how agitated she was and the web Hamza oh so innocently seems to be spinning, telling Mehru that Ameer is too good for the likes of them and it would be the right and kind thing to leave him is shrewd on his part.
This drama was nice to watch with Ameer’s comical role and I liked the direction and acting of the lead characters. Even the supporting characters like Maryam, Mehru’s parents and Ameer’s mother performed really well. But the story seems to be dragging now.I want to see the story move on and although the next episode preview shows Mareena had Hamza watched while she was away it still does not seem that much will come out of that confrontation. Ameer, Mehru and Hamza all seem to be martyrs and Mareena the evil Joker (Batman wala Joker). Do us a favour Mehru and please decide keh ‘kisay chahoon’ and do something about it asap!

Hmm, I am not so sure I like the way the story is progressing and the track it seems to have moved on to now. I think the whole reason I found Kisay Chahoon so charming was that besides Ameer’s delightful character it was not a ‘heavy’ watch. Nobody was dying, no saas bahu plotting, doosri biwi, the works. And keeping faith in that, I am hoping that what Hamza and Mehru are up to is nipped right in the bud – like right now.
Mareena survives her suicide attempt and emerges as crazy as ever. I should not even be making fun of her anymore as it appears she really does need medical help. Hamza has managed to convince his father in law that Mareena should seek professional help. I have to say I really do not believe there was even an iota of concern for Mareena in Hamza’s desperation for her father to help her. I believe he just wants to be rid of her now. When Mareena is leaving for the US and asks Hamza if he will miss her and he says of course, it made me laugh and say ‘jhootay, dil mein laddu phoot rahay hain’.
For all her craziness, Mareena is not naïve. The cells in her brain that are devoted to Hamza (which would probably be about 98 percent – 2 per cent I would say are devoted to making sure those horrendous clogs are always by her side wherever she is) are always in overdrive. She only agreed finally to accompany her father when he assured her Hamza would be ‘watched’ 24/7. And her parting words to Hamza were priceless because now if he threatens to leave her she will not only kill herself (yawn) but get this – Hamza ko bhi maar day gee. Ha!
Enough of Marina. The main development in these two episodes – Mehru meeting Hamza. I do not understand why Hamza asked to meet her. I do not understand why Mehru agreed to meet him. I do not understand why they actually went ahead and met each other. And I am glad I do not understand. I am all for ‘dil knows no logic’ and all that but not when both Mehru and Hamza are married and meeting without telling anyone else and when they have that much history between them.
I found all of Hamza’s conversations with Mehru annoying and lame. Mujhay achay dost ki zaroorat hai. I need a friend. All I want from you is friendship. Or wait, did it not used to be ‘fraaaandship’. This guy is worse than a teenager with his perpetually inclined head and now this ‘fraandship’ line that probably even teenagers of today do not use anymore! It is so clear that trying to be ‘friends’ with Mehru will lead to nothing but disaster. Who is he kidding? On a lighter note, when he said to Mehru that Mareena has made his life hell I did say not true, I think uss nay Hamza ki zindagi rangon se bhar di hai….kahan woh oversized plaid shirts when he was a tutor and kahan yeh silky colourful shirts which automatically blend with his surroundings! I know I know, I have also become very impressed (not!) by Hamza’s amazing dress sense.
And Mehru. She knows she is playing with fire too. She told Hamza that now they have no relation between them, not even that of friends or cousins but when Maryam confronts her she says he is still her friend and cousin and there is no harm in meeting him. I felt so awful that Ameer had to find Hamza in his home and hear what Mehru said about how her father has agreed to budge from his stance but not before ‘ruining’ one daughter’s life. He must have started to think before this moment – as did I – that Mehru had made peace with her circumstances and was not unhappy. I was quite disappointed by his reaction though. In any other drama, the guy in Ameer’s place would have thrown a fit and I get Ameer is different but sometimes I think this ‘sharaafat ussay lay doobay gee’. Mehru will announce I am leaving you for Hamza and he will say theek hai Mehru ji bas aap khush rahain, talaak ji mein nay daini hai ya aap nay?’ Uff!!
The preview for next week shows that Ameer has gone to visit his mother and Hamza and Mehru are having an argument in her house. So here is what I think could happen next:
a. Hamza and Mehru will keep meeting and Hamza’s mother will have a public showdown in front of both their families and Hamza being the spineless brat that he is will leave Mehru to fend for herself where Ameer will step up and emerge the hero in Mehru’s eyes.
b. Marina will ‘trick’ the Amreeki doctors into thinking she is fine and come back and discover Hamza is meeting Mehru and kill him and herself.
c. Ameer will see Mehru and Hamza meeting and when he asks her about it she will announce she is leaving him.
d. Hamza and Mehru. Ameer and Maryam. Ameer and Mareena. Hain?
Sigh, the possibilities are endless. I hope the next few episodes are not devoted to Hamza-Mehru meetings and that the story moves forward and things begin to wrap up now. I have also had more than enough of Mareena’s Hamza obsessed scenes and am getting a bit sick of them. I feel Ali Abbas has done an amazing job portraying Ameer’s character and I truly hope we are not meant to feel bad for Hamza being ‘trapped’ with Mareena because I find nothing good at all about his character. And this trying to reappear in Mehru’s life and insisting it is only friendship he seeks when his dialogues suggest much more makes me dislike him even more!
I repeat myself when I say I wish Mehru to end up with Ameer and that is solely for Ameer’s sake. Can I just mention here that in one of the episodes this week and then last week – the director managed to throw in one scene which had me grinning like a fool. I loved Ameer’s expression when Mehru asks him to take her to ‘samander kay kinaray’. Why oh why can she not just focus on Ameer and forget that wretched Hamza?

Right. I thought that the story was moving forward in episode 15 but the following episode was just the same old Hamza-Mareena track ending on an even crazier note.
As we saw in the previous episode, Maryam moves in with Mehru and Ameer. It was sweet how Ameer welcomes her and also stands upto her father later when he says Ameer should ask her to leave and he says he would do no such thing. I wonder where Maryam moving into their home will lead them. She is always telling Mehru that she should realize what a good man Ameer is and accept her marriage and give it her all but (and I blame all those ‘sister –snatching- sister’s husband/boyfriend/lurrrve’ dramas for this thought) I also wonder whether she might do an about turn and fall for Ameer herself. She keeps telling Mehru that she can see in her eyes that she is not over Hamza and even though Mehru says she is, even we can see she is not convincing enough.
As the promo last week had suggested, Mareena loses her baby. My suspicions were obviously aroused when she did not seem particularly upset over the loss and Hamza chancing upon the tablets confirmed it. I thought Mareena had serious issues taking any medicine and was unable to take tablets and only ever had ‘syrups’? Hamza’s confrontation scene with Mareena was as chaotic and crazy as all communication between them is. I know Mareena was out of line but the way Hamza yells and shakes her like a rag doll is a bit disconcerting.
I would not dwell on Mareena-Hamza for long but it seemed that most of these two episodes were focused on them. It did make me wonder how does a person become a ‘Mareena?’ She is never seen out with friends, never chatting on the phone, never actually doing anything at home. Her psychotic behaviour normally irritates me but today I thought how sad is it that she is this way. Her father believes she should never be hurt or disappointed and be given whatever she desires and that has really messed up her way of thinking. My benevolent feelings towards her however were abruptly abandoned though when Hamza uttered the same thoughts to her father. Me –and Hamza? See eye to eye? A very unsettling thought that is.
So just as I thought things were getting better between Ameer and Mehru, Hamza with his 45 degree hooked head shows up leaving Mehru flustered. I was soooooo enjoying the sweet ‘ring’ scene between Ameer and Mehru. I sat there with a goofy grin on my face, prompting my kids to poke their little faces into my laptop to see what was making me smile like that! Ameer looked horrendous and yet sweet in that awful outfit and I loved how Mehru did not ridicule him and tactfully told him he looked better in his ‘older’ style. I felt like a puppy sitting wagging its tail looking from Mehru to Ameer and back to Mehru but then Hamza had to show up. Grrr!
Turns out Hamza had come to pay back the money Ameer had given him through Mehru earlier. I have to say Mehru’s reaction left me confused and her conversation with Maryam after that also did not help shed any light. What was with all this softening towards Ameer? Chatting and laughing with him and Maryam? I honestly thought she was beginning to like him just a bit but her reaction to Hamza and her conversation with Maryam did not convince me either that she has, if not fallen in love with Ameer, but at least moved on.
Tutuuuuuu!!! I know, it could be really such a lame joke but the way Ali Abbas acted out the scene he had me laughing too. And they were talking about fashion and when he said tutu I thought of tutu skirts!! Speaking of fashion, I am no fashionista but what is with Mareena’s clogs? Did not they go out of style years ago? I have rarely seen anyone wear them now. And oh, this one I saved for the last – Hamza’s out of this world dressing. Mehru and Maryam and now Ameer all believe he has the most amazing dress sense. I will not waste my breath on this one – except remind you of that purple shirt that matched his bedsheet!
Anyways, Hamza is back to living with his mother and insists to her and Mareena’s father that he is doing all this just to ‘teach Mareena a lesson’. Seriously, his obsession to teach Mareena and reform her makes me think he has taken his tutor role a bit too much to heart! I did for a second wonder if Mareena maybe has a multiple personality disorder because of the way her head flicked to one side and her face took on an even more psychotic look when she demands to see his phone. Uffff!
I know we are rooting for a Mehru-Ameer ending and I am too but more so for Ameer’s sake than Mehru’s. I found myself disliking her when she married Ameer but only so that she could move out of her father’s house and runs to Hamza on his wedding day. I chose to forget that when I saw her making an effort to settle in. I found it in myself to forgive her (just about) for not falling in love with Ameer, but the scene where she tells Hamza she will not meet him (very unconvincingly) and then promo for next week shows she does – I am not sure how I feel about her anymore. True, Hamza had been selfish and deserted her when she needed his help and support but she chose to marry Ameer and then now all this dilly dallying and frolicking to Hamza does not sit very well with me but I am waiting to see how all this fares out.
Oh yes, one small thing I forgot to mention. Mareena slits her wrists. Yeah I know, I was not shocked either. And it seems like she will survive the suicide attempt. Bring on the madness! Sorry, bring on more madness!
I am waiting to see where things go from here. Are Hamza and Mehru going to end up together? Uff, I hope Ameer ji will not become the sacrificial cow ji! Neither do I want to see Maryam end up with Ameer because I was truly liking how he treats her like a little sister and their scenes together. What did you all think of these episodes? Right. So as if Mehru zeroing in on Ameer was not enough, now her father has chimed in too. I did not like how Mehru used Ameer as a pawn in her game against her father. I know we are beginning to get a bit annoyed by Ameer’s bechargi but that is how he is and obviously it seems he is going to snap out of it at some point but it did not happen in these two episodes.
I was willing to give Jabbar (Mehru’s father) the benefit of the doubt, thinking although the measures he took seemed a bit extreme and harsh, yet he had Mehru’s best interests at heart. His anger upon hearing Mehru has started to work was uncalled for. Even if I were to let that pass thinking he was upset because it was something that was not the norm in their family I could not excuse how he behaved with Maryam. Insisting that she leave her studies and get married otherwise move out was very unreasonable. Now whether he truly believes that is the best for her or he was doing another ‘Mehru’ on her I am not sure but Maryam called his bluff and packed her suitcase and moved into Mehru’s house. Can I just say here that I do not get how quickly women do their packing in dramas? There is always an empty suitcase available and everything packed, suitcase zipped within minutes whereas whenever we travel I have to hunt and empty out suitcases, then prepare lists upon lists with the mother of all lists pinned to the front door so I do not miss out anything!!! Ugggh!
Anyways, Ameer takes the verbal bashing Jabbar gives him and does not utter a word to Mehru. Although I did not like how Mehru used him to get back at her father and how she quizzed him but later when Maryam tells her exactly what their father said, her surprise made me believe that she did not mean for Ameer to be called all the names her father called him, rather she just wanted to hear how riled he was upon her news.
Her job turned out to be a nightmare. I am no perfect judge of character but that boss of hers really did seem sleazy daikhnay he say! I will just call him her boss and not bother looking up his name as I do not think he makes an appearance again. For all his 6 foot-ness, I found it hilarious that one dhakka from Mehru was all it took for him to fall to the floor and later he also got quite a beating from an outraged Ameer! I love how Ameer suddenly flares up when anyone says or does anything to Mehru like those guys in the street in the previous episode and now her boss.
My heart went out to Ameer when he tells Maryam that Mehru mujhay pasand nahin karti because he is not as smart as the shehr guys. Okay, even in my adoration of Ameer I will admit he is not dashing but oh.my.God – Hamza?! I could not believe my ears when Maryam said that. I wanted to plop down at their table and say nahin nahin, Hamza jaisa bilkul nahin!! But then, that ‘smartness’ is what Mehru was apparently in love with wasn’t she? Go figure.
Ah. Hamza. Rather Hamza ka pait and his appetite. Shakra in all her blustering announced that she would make all his favorite dishes within an hour and I am sorry to digress here but my mind started to drift – what can you make within an hour that would be classified as a delicious favorite dish. I doubt Hamza was a mac n cheese addict. But Mareena’s cooking scene did not need me to ponder over that for long. That chicken which was marinated with only dahi, zeera powder, ginger and garlic looked very unappetizing but hey, it would cook under an hour in the oven! Waisay for someone who looks hunted and keeps making it a point that each minute of his time is accounted for, I found it quite silly of Hamza to have left his phone in another room while Mareena was calling him at his mother’s house.
I will not comment on Mareena and Hamza’s scenes. Same old, same old. Except it appears they are bringing a poor baby into their mad mix. All that hue and cry over the baby announcement made me think of only one thing – birth control maybe and Mareena could have spared everyone the drama? Hamza seems to be concentrating on ‘reforming’ and daddying Mareena yet – will he be able to manage two children? Hmm.
It seemed like Mehru was beginning to melt when she smiles when Ameer beats up her boss. I am so glad we were spared any nastiness actually happening in her office for it would have truly spoilt the drama for me.
While Mareena and Hamza’s track seems to continue on its chaotic tone, I wonder if Maryam moving in to Mehru’s house will help Mehru discover any feelings she may have for Ameer? I have to say I am quite impressed by how natural Pari Hashmi’s acting is. Sonia and Ali Abbas were amazing as always except when her boss locks the room door I expected Sonia to do her asthma type acting but the expression on her face seemed a bit uncharacteristic pf her to me. Also, is it me (and I am no maulvi, really!) but don’t Noor Hasan and Iqra’s scenes seem a bit too close for comfort? I just find the scenes where they are sitting and talking and the focus is on their faces a bit awkward. The promo for next week suggests that Mareena takes measures to be rid of her baby whereas nothing seems to be changing on the Mehru-Ameer front. I do not expect Mehru to fall into Ameer’s arms next week but it would be nice to see a few more scenes showing how her feelings are changing for him rather than the same old attitude she has towards him.
Oh and what was with the weird ‘ha ha ha ha’ and ‘hay hay hay’ music that played when Hamza’s mother asks him if he is happy and when Ameer gets told off? The sort of music that plays in those bad shaadi videos when they show scores of close ups of the bride from different angles? Has it been played in the earlier episodes? I only just noticed it in the 13th episode. Strange. Anyways, what did you all think of these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts.
I would just like to mention here that this is the last of my weekly reviews on Kisay Chahoon and the other dramas I was reviewing – Judai, Mera Yaar Miladay and Bhai. I am finding it a bit difficult to manage my time writing along with managing home, the kids etc. I really enjoyed writing the reviews though and am truly grateful for all the lovely comments of appreciation I received on them. So, these two episodes were about Hamza-Mareena and Ameer-Mehru with a bit too much of Shakra (Hamza’s mother) in one episode doing her gasping,weeping bit. Hamza and Mareena are back from their honeymoon and Hamza comes to visit his mother. I am the sort who tears up when contestants are kicked out in programmes such as The Voice but Hamza’s ‘emotional’ scene with his mother was anything but. All I could think was keh bhayee, all is right with the world again. It had appeared in the earlier episodes that Shaheen Khan had finally landed a role where she was not the silly, weeping woman she is in every other drama and I felt odd, like the world had moved on and I had missed something. Apparently not. She was her usual senseless, weeping self today. True, Shakra had not anticipated that her husband would die so soon but she had really pushed Hamza to marry Mareena and when she said how can you leave your mother alone now, I could only shake my head.
When Hamza and Mareena leave his house, they run into Mehru and Ameer outside. I found Mareena’s initial interest in Mehru a bit misplaced and strange how she was so eager to be introduced to her. Since Ameer knows all, Mehru has nothing to hide and she also does not really care what he thinks so says what she pleases. However, Hamza has been cagey about his past and Mehru’s double edged comments make Mareena suspicious.
I sat with such a silly smile on my face and so engrossed during the whole ‘Ameer getting beaten up and Mehru taking care of him’ scenario that I just about managed to connect back with the real world in time to rescue the chicken tikkas I had on the stove from turning into halwa! I loved how Ameer gets annoyed by the men ogling Mehru and the way he says Mehru Ji and his voice raises a notch when she argues and he confronts the men and then Mehru takes care of him and and and…you get the idea!
Like Ameer, I had begun to think Mehru was, if not falling in love just yet but at least beginning to accept her marriage and make an effort but just like Ameer, I too was snapped rudely out of that bubble. Mehru makes it clear that since she can not (does not) want to go back to her father’s house and Hamza is not an option anymore then she wants to stay with Ameer but only until she can finally support herself and then she will take her leave from Ameer too. She makes it clear she is not asking for his permission and that if he were to stand in her way then she would just leave him now.
I feel for Ameer, I do and I admit Mehru is a bit too harsh with him especially when she slapped him in the earlier episodes but if I am to be fair, I can not blame Mehru for thinking the way she is right now. Well, sort of. Her father played with her emotions and pretty much bullied her into marrying Ameer. Hamza was hardly a pillar of support before her nikkah to Ameer and although she was silly and rash and well it was wrong to tell Hamza that nothing had changed and she was going to get a divorce from Ameer and marry Hamza but when he married Mareena, Mehru felt that Hamza had let her down. I am in no way endorsing her actions but I can see how Mehru would believe that she has been wronged. That is why we do not see Mehru thinking about him whereas Hamza is running around like a headless chicken trying to retrieve the shirts Mehru had gifted him and hanging onto her memories.
To be honest I did think it was a bit too sudden how Mehru would suddenly change and accept Ameer as her husband and everything would be hunky dory. I can relate more easily to her accepting her circumstances for now and trying to keep things as pleasant as possible with Ameer without giving him any false hopes for the time that she is staying with him.
I also do not understand Mehru’s father. At times he gives the impression of a father who is doing what he truly believes is right for his daughter and he seems concerned when she does not visit him and asks how she is. But then his conversations with Ameer about her are strange. I know he believes Ameer is a gem of a person but purposely saying things to sort of make him behave less nicely towards Mehru is a bit weird.
Watching Mareena is well, exhausting. There is definitely some split/multiple personality disorder scene going on here. I could digest the rich, spoilt brat but the way she switches from smiling Mareena to scary screeching Mareena is doing my head in. I do not even know what to write about Hamza and Mareena because it was just the same scene playing out over and over again. In short: Bubbly smiling Mareena – Hamza says something (read: puts foot in his mouth) – Mareena’s eyes narrow or widen, doesn’t matter which one as both actions imply she is angry – Mareena yells, pushes,hits,flounces or all rolled into one – Hamza manaofying Mareena. And replay. Waisay, I have often seen the ‘lipstick rubbing all over your face’ scene in quite a few dramas and for the life of me have never understood it and the philosophy behind it. I am sure it is something very deep (dripping sarcasm) but I do not care to know.
Anyhow, so either Hamza will be able to ‘change’ Mareena or Mareena will finally take the plunge from borderline mental to full time mental or- and this seems to be the least likely possibility – both will find each other midway and live happily ever after.
Whatever Hamza and Mareena end up doing I do not care for much, as my interest lies in Ameer. Well, I mean Ameer and Mehru, of course. I think! I can not praise Ali Abbas enough for how he has really made us feel for Ameer. Sonia Hussain is perfect as Mehru especially as there were no crying scenes in these two episodes. Overall, I find the pace at which the story is moving to be good. I know Mehru finally falling in love with Ameer would be a predictable end but I really would not want it any other way. As I have said before, the story does not seem to offer anything new but the direction and cast has really made it stand out.
Right! Time to do a ‘jee’ detox! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these two episodes!
Haye ji how cute is Ameer, I mean seriously ji! After binge watching a few episodes and pretty much engrossed in the drama, when my husband called my name, I caught myself just in time from replying…hain ji?!!
A Moomal Entertainment production, directed by Ahmed Bhatti and written by Mehwish Hassan, Kisay Chahoon has been on air every Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm on HUM Tv for a few weeks now. I had watched the first few episodes and then writing it off as predictable, somehow forgot about it until a few readers asked if I could watch it and write a review. Feeling very chuffed at my first drama review request (and seeing as I do not cook on a Friday – hence more free time), I caught up online and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed watching the drama.
Kisay Chahoon is the story of two cousins, Mehru (Sonia Hussain) and Hamza (Noor Hasan) whose families are at loggerheads with each other. I am not very clear about the intricate details but at some point Hamza’s father borrowed quite a hefty amount from Mehru’s father Jabbar (Firdous Jamal) and has been unable to return the loan, so Jabbar takes him to court. Mehru’s mother Zakiya (Fauzia Mushtaq) is Hamza’s phuppo. The whole court aspect brings bitterness between the families, more so in Jabbar and Hamza’s mother Shakra (Shaheen Khan). Mehru and Hamza are seemingly unaffected by the animosity between the parents and believe ‘love will conquer all’ even though it is obvious how unlikely it is this marriage can ever happen with the parents’ blessings.
Jabbar’s sisters son Ameer (Ali Abbas) comes to stay with them and is shown to be a simple, well meaning sort of person. Mehrus younger sister Maryam (Pari Hashmi) gets along with him but Mehru is quite short with him from the beginning because she knows he has seen her out with Hamza and worries he may tell her father.
Hamza lands a job as a tutor to a very rich and spoilt girl Mareena (Iqra Aziz) who eventually (quickly!) falls in love with him. Ameer appears to be falling in love with Mehru (I have no idea why as she is always only very rude and short with him) but he knows Mehru loves Hamza and wishes she gets married to Hamza. Trying to help out Mehru when speaking to her father about not going ahead with a proposal that has come for her, he somehow gives his uncle the impression that he is interested in Mehru and vice versa. Jabbar is delighted for he adores Ameer and announces they are to be married.
Meanwhile, Hamza speaks to his parents about Mehru and later his mother storms off to Mehru’s house to give them a piece of her mind. Mehru does admit she loves Hamza but Jabbar issues an ultimatum that either Mehru marries Ameer or else he will divorce Zakiya. Horrified at the thought of her mother getting divorced, Mehru agrees to marry Ameer and the nikkah takes place the same day. Hamza hears about the nikkah and there is the whole scene where he is raging across the city on his motorbike to reach Mehru’s house and once he is there – he stops (at the same time Mehru says qabool hai) and goes back. Only issue I had with that scene was that Mehru was inside the house whereas he was sat outside on his bike so unless he has bionic hearing or there was a hidden mike in Mehru’s room which I doubt – why did he turn back? Maybe because he realised how futile it was. Why race across the city to get to her house then? Ah well, I’ll let that one go with ‘love knows no reason’.
Since Mehru is now married and Hamza’s family still needs the money, he agrees to marry Mareena. Mehru is married but as Ameer says ‘woh sirf jaanay kay leeyay iss ghar mein ayee hain’. She has made it clear she wants a divorce from Ameer so she can marry Hamza. I do not understand how that helps as she only agreed to the marriage in the first place so that her mother does not get divorced so why would her father feel differently now if she divorces from Ameer and then marries Hamza. True, she says she is not in her father’s control anymore but still I guess it only goes to show what I feel from the beginning that Hamza and Mehru are in love but have very half baked plans. There was the time her father was considering a proposal for her and Hamza left her in the lurch to handle it herself . True, he was worried about the financial situation his family was in but he was very hands off about the whole situation which I did not like especially as Mehru was doing all she could to help him out. Then Mehru’s rash decision to marry Ameer and saying she and Hamza will sort out how to proceed now shows Mehru rushes off into situations without really thinking them through.
In the latest episode Mehru learns Hamza is getting married and confronts him and he brushes her off by saying this is her ‘saza’ for having married Ameer. She comes home and takes out all her anger and frustration on poor Ameer. I wish they had shown the scene when Ameer finally returns home and what Mehru’s reaction was.
I guess the main track in the story is meant to be that of Mehru and Hamza but the real show stealer has to be Ameer. Ali Abbas has acted amazingly well. He made me laugh, made me wince when Mehru puts him down, and cover my mouth in shock when she slaps him. His body language, his mannerisms, the way he speaks –Ali Abbas has truly put in a lot of effort in the role and I love how even though he is funny, he is not shown to be comical or OTT. I could not help being reminded though of the indian movie Rab nay bana di jori and thinking the whole black satchel and mannerisms and then sitting across the table from Mehru at meal times seemed to be a bit inspired by the movie but I am not complaining. Ali Abbas has done a commendable job and his acting feels original enough.
I was so thrilled for Ameer when after the nikkah we see he is promoted from the tiny drawing room to a big proper bedroom and I thought nahin yaar when he picks his pillow and walks out. I understand Mehru feels controlled and betrayed and is lumping Ameer with her family thinking they have all been unfair to her but the way she yells at him and slaps him was just awful. We see that she was hoping Ameer would say no to the nikkah knowing she does not want to marry him, even though she had said yes.
Noor Hassan is just Noor Hassan. That should say it all. He is Noor Hassan in every Noor Hassan drama with his strangled deep voice and head tilted at 45 degrees. When we were teenagers there was a time when most of us had our heads tilted at 45 degrees but we grew out of it. Really, we did. About time he does too. Iqra Aziz is convincing as the rich spoilt brat but when she had that huge smile in the hospital it creeped me out and I wonder if her role is just someone who is spoilt and very moody or also borderline mentally unstable?
Sonia Hussain is one of the few young actresses that I like and although she gets a bit scary looking and asthmatic in her emotional crying scenes, she is a good actress and I like how most of the time her acting is very natural and real.
The story does not seem to be new so far. Girl getting married to someone she does not love who turns out to be a total angel – Ishq Parast, Who Ishq tha Shayed to name a couple. Although if I am to quote only those two dramas then I may as well substitute the word angel with Jibran Syed . Oh well. And I will unashamedly admit I am a bit of a sucker for those kind of stories where the female lead slowly falls in love with her husband. I like Kisay Chahoon because it lacks any horrifying/weird twists and turns as yet. And the fact that it airs twice a week helps keep up the pace of the drama I feel. With Hamza’s father dying in the latest episode and Hamza totally at his susraal’s beck and call it seems like Shakra will get a reality check. Poor Shaheen Khan, with her brainless mother role in Chup Raho or the equally brainless khala role in Ishq Parast I was pleasantly (dripping sarcasm here)surprised when she lies to Hamza that she asked for Mehru’s rishta but her father insulted her and threw her out. I thought wah Shaheen, you do have a brain. Seems like it has not helped her much here either though.
Overall, I liked the play more until Mehru and Ameer got married. I do not like how Mehru is treating Ameer because at first his scenes made me laugh but now I feel so bad for him. One could think that he should have just said no to Mehru’s father to the nikkah but then that is just how he is. A non confrontational sort and even though he tried to stop things earlier but when his mamoo says he knows what he is doing and needs his support, he felt he needed to step up. I really like the chemistry between Ali Abbas and Firdous Jamal – one actually believes he is truly fond of his nephew. I suppose Mehru will slowly fall in love with Ameer now and Mareena and Hamza are in for a joy (read:horror) ride. Ahmed Bhatti is a new name to me but he has done wonderfully well with this drama. I found the lighting a bit odd and annoying in Mareena’s house scenes but I am guessing no more accounts tuitions now so no more scenes with that lighting!

The show that gave its viewers many messages to remember, ended today.
Last 3 episodes had a lot happening and I liked the way the story was brought towards its end. Asfand and Salma came closer as Salma picked herself up and discovered her hidden talent, painting. Asfand’s feelings were written all over his face, and even if he hadn’t confessed his love for her, we’d have understood. What I don’t get is, that why did he fall for Salma? Ever since Salma became normal again, her dialogue delivery has been slower than ever. Like, really really slow. All she talked about was her bure haalaat and I was forced to wonder if Asfand’s feelings were out of mercy? I really wish that it was clearer for the viewers to understand why he fell for her. I think that Salma’s decision of “waiting for the right time” was right. She has a lot to do for herself and her family, and she can do it while being independent. Nevertheless, I felt for Asfand.
For a newcomer, Essa Chauhdry has acted pretty well. He fits right into the role of the aspiring artist and romeo.
Things in Hadiqa’s life were going great, but Fahad was going to pay for his actions. His own sister Shaiqa fell into someone’s trap. Faisal was the brother of Najma, another girl whom Fahad had ruined. He wanted revenge, thus he fooled Shaiqa into loving him and recorded a video of them together. He threatened her, that unless Fahad apologized to every girl he had wronged, he would circulate the video all over the internet.
Shaiqa was devastated, but she had to save her family’s honour. She begged Fahad to do what Faisal had asked for, but Fahad refused, and said that he would kill Faisal and Shaiqa both instead of saying sorry. She saw no way to end this, and decided to kill herself. That was when Fahad opened his eyes. His arrogance was of no use then. He screamed and cried but to no avail.
Agha Ali was spot on in that scene. His portrayal of Fahad has been convincing throughout the show.
However, I was surprised that Fahad’s parents were missing in tonight’s episode as well. At least one scene with them would suffice. One more thing that left me a feeling of emptiness was, that Faisal wasn’t punished. What he did was wrong. Yes, Fahad had also done wrong, but this doesn’t mean that his punishment could be given to his sister.
The most boring scenes in tonight’s episode were Salma’s. She was the one I was supposed to like the most today,because she was finally going to take charge of her life, but I ended up wanting more of Hadiqa. Sajal’s acting was definitely spot on. The role of Hadiqa suits on her more than any other one.
When Shaiqa called her (before the suicide) Hadiqa refused to listen to her. Shaiqa was obviously trying to apologize on Fahad’s behalf. When Hadiqa got to know about the suicide, her reaction was, to her horror, of happiness (which she herself mentioned later).
Hadiqa: (sounding ashamed) Mujhe uss waqt khushi hui, yeh soch kar ke Fahad ko takleef hui hogi.
This does happen when we hate a person so much, that hearing about their sorrow makes us happy. Despite that, this is selfish on various levels, and should not be done. Hadiqa felt guilty for thinking like this, that’s why she decided to do another radio show to raise awareness about the incident. This time, she could not get away and the principal caught her red handed.
This time, Hadiqa’s parents were called and warned, and that’s when they got to know about the happenings in their daughter’s life. After a long time, the parents and daughter sat down for a long conversation. It made the parents realize, that they had been so busy with their lives, that they forgot to talk to their daughter, and try to find out what she was going through. This was the main message of the show, and I must say, a message well-delivered.
Hadiqa didn’t want to go back to her normal life because of the guilt. Her grandmother stepped in and helped her get over the guilt. The school decided to let the radio show go on, because it would bring positivism only.
The badly timed ads disturbed me throughout the episode, but nevertheless the episode was good enough to curb my frustration. Shahid Nadeem raised many important issues in the show, and it wasn’t another saas bahu drama with roti, munh basoorti aurtein. Bullying, blackmailing (leading to depression and suicide), lack of communication between parents and children were just some of the problems that were discussed. The director did not disappoint us at all.
Kis Se Kahoon is a bundle of mesages, simple yet enjoyable.The duration is the only problem for me though.
Salma, her mother Razia, and her family, abandoned by her father were settled in Hadiqa’s house when Salma’s father arrived and threw a tantrum that Hadiqa’s father, Mr. Siddiqui, was forcefully keeping the family at his house. Mr Siddiqui was furious and told them to go back, while his wife sided with him. Meanwhile, as Razia gave in to Mr.Siddiqui’s requests, Hadiqa tried to convince her parents and Razia as well that domestic violence needs to be reported. Still, Razia had to go back and her husband continued to ridicule her and his daughters.
Hadiqa’s Islamiat teacher gave few lectures. One was about the Day of Judgement and some on other topics. The one about the Last Day was really well-written. It was worth a share.
Jo paper aap ne dena hai, uss ke answers chhap chuke hain.Khami zindagi ke challenges ki itni tayyari, aur abdi zindagi (hereafter) ke bare mein yeh kehna ke burhape (old age) mein dekh lein ge. Jo ibadat aur khidmat aap jawani mein karsakte hain, woh burhape mein nahi.
While Hadiqa tried to save Salma and Razia, she herself got trapped by Fahad. She could not see the mask he wore and his tactics and good looks blinded her.
Meanwhile Asfandyar (Essa Chauhdry) who was trying to deal with his anger issues by painting, joined a mental hospital. He dealt with women who had been abused so much that due to psychological pressure, they had stopped talking. They did not use the gift of speech to convey their problems to others. Asfand gave them a pencil and paper, so they could use their hands to convey their problems.
Salma’s abusive father was diagnosed with a lethal disease. While Salma fretted about his treatment, she received the news that he died in an accident on the highway, while he was driving his truck. He was an abusive father and a burden on Salma, despite that she cried. This shows no matter how bad he was, his daughters considered him an important part of their lives. Immediately after this Salma’s youngest sister ran away. She used to hobble, and Salma wondered, Chal nahi sakti thhi, bhaag kese gayi?
So Salma is facing tough problems right now, and so will Hadiqa if she lets Fahad fool her any further. This drama tells youth about their rights and how to deal with their problems, and I am sure it will give some thoughtful messages to the audience.
Performances have been top-notch till now. I like the characters as well and the show is well-written and directed. What did you think of these episodes?
One has to praise how stunning the two lead ladies look in Kis Se Kahoon. While Salma’s dressing and makeup is simple, Hadiqa’s is chic and stylish. The contrast is nicely done.
Hadiqa is a smart girl. She heard Mehreen’s (Fahad’s ex-girlfriend) side of the story and got to know how Fahad used her. She is well aware of his mindset now and won’t fall prey to him easily. This was evident from the way she took his bouquet and card for Valentines Day and then threw it into the bin in front of him.
Fahad’s character is cliched albeit interesting. He will totally let go of his self-esteem to get girls, and when they fall into his trap, he will demean them every way possible. That is why he leaked private photos of Mehreen and still can’t let her live in peace. He told her to take back whatever she said to Hadiqa and change the story to show him as the victim. I really want to know why he likes to disrespect and embarrass women? There must be an explanation for his behaviour.
Salma’s teacher asked her to present her poetry in front of the class, but clearly no one understood the poem and made fun of Salma. Her teacher and Hadiqa are the only ones who appreciated her creativity.
Apni dunya mein wapas ajao…..
Salma’s mother’s reminder was painful. Things are not going in her family’s favour, since they will probably have to go to a shelter home (I hope Hadiqa prevents that) and two of her younger sisters can’t go to school because of the fees problem. This does not stop Salma from dreaming and I hope her dreams will help her to improve her life.
The new and interesting character, Asphandyar portrayed by Essa Chauhdry is the son of a businessman. His father is a friend of Mr.Qureshi (Hadiqa’s father). He wanted to do what he loved but his father forced him to live on his terms. That angered Asfandyar and he became full of hatred. Then he discovered painting, which worked as a stress relieving activity for him.
Mujhe laga ke mere andar ka zeher brush ke zariye canvas par muntaqil horaha hai aur ab jab bhi mujhe ghussa aata hai tou mein yeh brush thaam leta hun
I love the story and all the tracks but there is only one problem with Kis Se Kahoon. The starting time is supposed to be 8:10 pm but it starts at 8:30 pm.
A lot happened during these three weeks in KSK. The story is getting more interesting by the minute.
Hadiqa and Fahad:
Hadiqa started to trust Fahad a lot and fell for him. She thought about him day and night, spent time with him at college and talked to him through social networking sites when she was at home. Fahad enjoyed the fact that his bet was nearing completion. He read her messages aloud in front of his friends and laughed. I was a bit disappointed in Hadiqa. She didn’t think twice before going to his house with him, and could not detect his lies about his parents being out of country.
She even followed him into the bedroom, but left before any real harm could be done to her. Even so, Fahad got the video footage he wanted. A little blur and editing here and there, and he had proof of Hadiqa doing what she had not done! Spreading it all over social media was easy.
Next day, Hadiqa noticed the whole college giving her weird looks. She was mocked by her friends as well, and she could not undestand why, until she looked at the video on Facebook. She was shocked and felt cheated thus she locked herself up in her room for the whole day. Her mother tried to talk to her but she did not, infact could not tell her anything. The emotional gap between the two forced her to remain quiet. Her parents have been away from her all her life, and even now, she spends less time with her mother.
Talking to her mother about such a big problem was not possible, but talking to her grandmother was. Dadi boosted her spirit and helped her face her problems. Hadiqa changed her decision of leaving the college forever and went back.
Mehreen, the girl who had been previously cheated by Fahad, confessed to Hadiqa’s friends that she had lied to Hadiqa about Fahad and that he really is a bad guy. The good guy cover was just to lure Hadiqa in. The group of friends felt sorry for what they said to Hadiqa, and took her back in when she came to college.
The moment she entered the college, Fahad was there to mock her. Tum ne abhi tak khudkushi nahi ki? Buhat dheet ho tum! He told her about the bet and gloated. Tum ne jis din mujhe basketball ka match haraya thha na, uss hi din shart lagai thhi mein ne. Meanwhile she got summoned to the principal’s office about the video issue. The principal (to mu relief) dealt her with kindness, and after knowing that she has learnt from her mistakes, put her on probation. Apne aansoo saaf karke jayein.
When Hadiqa stepped out of the office, she was a changed girl. She told her friends that she will not let any other girl be fooled like this. Mujhe kuch aesa karna hai jo iss qism ke neech larkon ka rasta roke. All of them decided to devise a plan to teach people like Fahad a lesson.
Salma and her stress reliever:
Salma on the other hand, suffered under stress. She started to lose her sanity and used to have panic attacks. Her mother had to get her admitted to a mental hospital, and there Salma met Asfand. Asfand told her to draw her worries away, just like he tells other mentally disturbed people. Agar ghussa hai tou iss canvas pe nikal do, yeh canvass sab kuch samajhta hai. He told her to explore her “andar ki dunya”.
Firstly, she just drew lines, but then she started to paint, and discovered her hidden talent. Her own mother was surprised with her progress. Just like Asfand, Salma found her stress reliever in painting.
The big plan:
Hadiqa’s friend Noor decides to operate an underground radio channel. Aese larkon ko expose karenge aur baqi waqt mein gaane chalaein ge. Her brother can help them operate it, and they’ll even let a teacher in on their plans, so that they don’t get caught.
