Inkaar Last Episode Story Review – Justice Served But Denied

I have always praised the writer Zafar Mairaj in particular for his practical approach and the fact that this drama always had the right messages. But unfortunately this ending reminded me of drama serial Sangat. This last episode also reminded me of drama serial Khaani but the big difference was that while Mir Hadi earned ‘respect’ in jail and his realizations were shown gradually, this ending was too rushed and not the least bit satisfying. The punishment Hajra chose for Rehan did not go well with the practical approach the writer had right from the start. In the end it was Hajra’s decision and the reasoning she gave for letting Rehan go did not sit well with me at all. The dialogues covering the role of media were the only good part about this last episode and I also feel that Shayan did not get the acknowledgement he deserved in the end. It all boiled down to Hajra getting validation from the public and winning in the eyes of the media. Hajra and her father once said that they could forgive Rehan but they couldn’t forgive people who killed Gullu Badshah – what happened to that? The opening scenes of this last episode promised a powerful ending but later on the way Hajra gave her own verdict was nothing short of shocking.

The rest of the developments covering the relationship between different characters were pleasing to watch. Since I did not review the second last episode therefore I will also share my views about that in this review.

A Mother’s Confession

Hajra and her mother’s scene in the first half of the second last episode was one of the best scenes in that episode. Very often in our dramas, mothers are not shown asking their children (specifically girls) for forgiveness or they feel that they do not need to tell their children how much they are loved. This was definitely one of the nice aspects of this ending.

The Court’s Proceedings

Throughout, the court’s proceedings were covered in detail and every single scenario was convincing. In this last and second last episode too, everything was covered in detail. Hajra, Shayan and their fathers joined hands to do whatever they could to win the case. Eventually it was the CCTV footage which helped the court make the final judgment. Hajra was quite content with her decision because she was convinced that Rehan Chaudhry did not need to go to the prison but he needed the right guidance from his mother in order to ‘mend his ways’. Since this was Hajra’s decision, one she had taken after the court gave its own therefore everyone associated with her was quite happy with it and even the media portrayed Hajra as the real hero. The role Shayan’s father played was definitely pleasing but wasn’t he the one who got Gullu Badshah killed? I found it really hard to forgive him for that and the thought that Hajra was now going to live in the same house as him was not the least bit pleasing.

Inkaar Last Episode 1

The Performances

All the actors playing leading and supporting roles did complete justice to their characters. Yumna Zaidi and Rehan Sheikh outdid everyone else, although their track didn’t have the ending most of us wanted to see but they stayed true to their characters right till the end. Imran Ashraf once again chose to experiment and this time around too he made his presence felt especially in the last few episodes. Sami Khan was convincing as the man who loved Hajra unconditionally. I also enjoyed watching Shayan’s growth as an individual. I would have loved to see Rehan behind bars, begging for an apology but that was not meant to be. Munazzah Arif, Noor-ul-Hassan and the actor playing Gullu Badshah’s role performed exceptionally well. The reporters in this episode acted poorly which definitely affected the overall impact of this last episode. Hajra’s decision in the end was the worst part of a drama which I had huge expectations from. The best part of this play was the father-daughter bonding and the way Hajra’s father stood by her side right till the end. Watching Inkaar and reviewing it was always worthwhile but this last episode was a big disappointment.

Special thanks to all those wonderful readers who read the reviews every week and shared their views here. Do share your thoughts about this last episode of Inkaar.

Inkaar Episode 9 Story Review – No Means No

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar covered the final confrontation between Rehan and Hajra. For the past few weeks the writer had been laying down the foundations for what we saw tonight. Although in all these weeks the writer convincingly showed Rehan Chaudhry’s twisted state of mind but even then what happened tonight was shocking. Most of the scenes tonight covered the relationship of all the characters with each other. These scenes also highlighted the difference in the mindset of all these households.

Well-Defined Characters

Hajra’s relationship with her father was further explored in this episode. I absolutely loved the scenes covering their bond. The first few scenes covered how things were escalated and as a result Hajra and Shayan had to be married sooner than they had planned to. Hajra’s strong, determined and sensitive nature was also shown through different scenes. The way she was scared of telling her father the truth but was later on very willing to accept whatever punishment her father wanted to give her was the best part of this track. Rehan’s relationship with his mother is very different from the one he has with his step-mother. He respects her mother relatively more and for the first time it seemed like he was actually slightly scared of someone too when his mother confronted him. The scenes covering Shayan and his mother’s interactions explained quite well why he was so different from Rehan.

Rehan has been brought up in an environment in which women are not respected whereas Shayan’s mother continuously tells him to respect Hajra. All the characters in this drama are well defined and easy to connect to which makes Inkaar an engaging play.

Inkaar Episode 9 Story Review - No Means No

The Realities

Tonight’s episode reminded me of a recent incident in which a girl was stabbed in Lahore by her class fellow. I still remember the press conference in which the accused man who stabbed her confidently pleaded his case like he had done nothing wrong. Like many other such incidents, in this case too there was a lot of victim blaming even by the man who stabbed the girl. I must say that the writer has done a commendable job of showing why a girl should not be blamed in such situations. Just because Hajra trusted this man for sometime doesn’t mean he owns her. It also most certainly doesn’t mean that she deserved what she got. Most often the argument is that women in some way are partially responsible for all the bad things that happen to them. I understood tonight that the writer through this play has tried to convey some really important messages about consent. No means no but some people like Rehan can never understand that. Even though Hajra clearly told him that she didn’t want anything to do with him, he still told his mother that he was going to marry Hajra.

Overall Impression

Yumna Zaidi was the star of the show tonight. She made every single expression and dialogue count. The way Hajra’s friend slept through all that shouting was unbelievable, other than that everything else was shown in a convincing manner. Sami Khan always plays the good guy with a layered personality perfectly well therefore I am pretty sure that he will make the viewers feel for him even more in the upcoming episodes. The scenes covering Hajra and Shayan’s relationship suggested that he was not the kind of person who likes confrontations or who would go out looking for trouble. In the previous few episodes however, we saw a very different side of him. This makes me wonder what his stance will be if Hajra wants to bring Rehan to justice.

Inkaar Episode 9 Story Review - No Means No

Rehan Sheikh and Noor-ul-Hassan are exceptional actors, really enjoying seeing them in this show in relatively different roles. Waiting to see what Imran Ashraf has in store for us in the future since Rehan’s character is only going to get even more repulsive in the upcoming episodes. The preview of the next episode showed how casually Rehan’s family took the incident and the way Shayan is going to perceive it. It looks like he will blame himself for what happened. I hope that the story does not slow down now and we see a determined Hajra fighting for justice. The story has tons of potential and I hope that the writer makes the most of it.

Inkaar Episode 8 Story Review – Interesting Conversations

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar had few of the most important developments to its credit. Shayan’s character is turning out to be an interesting one since he has different shades to his personality. Yumna Zaidi and Sami Khan look good together and their relationship tonight was covered in a sweet manner. Rehan Chaudhry is annoying and he clearly has a problem accepting other people’s likes and dislikes. With this episode the story moved forward a little and the viewers found out more about the characters.

Hajra Is In Love

In the previous few episodes the viewers were shown how and why Hajra gradually started trusting Shayan. In this episode for the first time Hajra declared her love for Shayan and she clearly trusts Shayan more now. In the previous episode Hajra was confused but tonight the way she told Rehan off and later on allowed Shayan to hold her hand basically proved that she trusted this man completely now. The scenes at the university were few of my favorites because Hajra and Shayan’s conversations in particular were very well written. These scenes also showed that Rehan was not going to leave Hajra and Shayan alone. He is making it impossible for Hajra to take admission again.
I absolutely loved the scene in which Hajra blamed herself for trusting Rehan but Shayan assured her by telling her that it was his fault and not hers. Hajra’s fears and her faith in Shayan was also translated beautifully on screen in these scenes. Coming back to the university was never easy for Hajra and it would have been impossible for her to continue fighting her case if Shayan was not on her side. There are however times when you can’t help but wonder if Shayan has a life other than being by Hajra’s side all the time. It would have been nice if he had some other interests, hobbies or perhaps a job.

Inkaar Episode 8 Story Review - Interesting Conversations

Shayan’s Character

The fact that Shayan is not your regular seedha sadha lrka definitely makes his character more appealing. Right from the beginning, through different scenes the writer conveyed the message that Shayan was completely capable of taking a stand for himself and for Hajra. It all started with him beating the man who said something to Hajra but refusing to hit her brother while he beat him up. Tonight too he was shown being aggressive repeatedly but he was a completely different person around Hajra. So far all his fights have been for Hajra but this aspect of his personality can perhaps swing in a different direction in the upcoming episodes. Shayan also does not confront Rehan the way he would confront anyone else. This basically shows that even after everything that happened, Shayan still holds himself back because Rehan was once his friend.

Rehan’s Character

So far, Rehan’s character is all back. He is seriously twisted, he has absolutely no respect for women and he is constantly shown harassing someone or the other. Tonight, even when he was interacting with Shayan’s mother he was quite intimidating. Rehan clearly thinks that he deserves respect but does not believe in respecting anyone at all. He is used to buying people whether it’s a servant or a headmaster and he does not value relationships at all.

Overall Impression

Sami Khan and Yumna Zaidi’s on-screen chemistry makes their scenes an absolute treat to watch. Imran Ashraf makes you hate his character which basically means that he is doing a great job. Still waiting to see how far Rehan will go to stop this marriage from taking place. Shayan too has proved that he can do anything for Hajra therefore it remains to be seen how far this fight will go. I especially like how Hajra’s relationship with her mother has grown in all these weeks. Her mother’s dialogue about khushi bantana was one of my favorites. There were quite a few meaningful conversations in this episode which were interesting.

Inkaar Episode 7 Story Review – Secrets Revealed

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar covered the entire backstory. It also revealed true feelings of Shayan for Hajra which always seemed genuine. Some of the scenes were emotional and Rehan Chaudhry’s presence was terrifying. He is clearly someone who has absolutely no moral compass. The performances tonight were on point and so far the pace of this drama has been steady. Every episode has some major development to its credit. The characters are easy to connect to and the scenes covering Hajra’s family life are always more appealing than the ones which cover Shayan and Rehan’s family life.

The Characters

Shayan and Rehan are completely opposite to each other in every way possible. While Shayan never had the guts to share his true feelings with Hajra, Rehan went ahead and made a complete fool of her with utmost confidence. The fact that these two became friends at a really young age explains why they stayed friends for so long. This episode opened with an extremely emotional scene, this scene proved that Shayan was never playing games and his feelings for Hajra were genuine. Once again Hajra’s father played an important role in helping Hajra make a decision which was quite difficult. Her father’s faith in Shayan and most of all the fact that he felt that this man could love his daughter more than him, made Hajra take a step which she wouldn’t have taken otherwise.

Just when Shayan wanted to run away from everything, Hajra gave him a chance to tell his side of the story. Hajra and her father’s relationship is one of a kind, definitely something we don’t get to see in our dramas all the time. There is respect and friendship there which is rare. While telling Hajra everything Shayan also mentioned that Chaudhry lived with his stepmother and missed his mother a lot. This sense of abandonment perhaps made him the person he is today.

Inkaar Episode 7 Story Review - Secrets Revealed

Even though Shayan gave him nothing but love and support but he did not think twice before going ahead with a plan that could have ruined their friendship forever. The way Rehan completely disregarded his relationship with his childhood friend simply to trap an innocent girl went to show how shallow and negative he was. This also showed Shayan’s weak personality and how he was unable to ensure that Rehan stayed out of his life for good after everything that happened. Rehan rushed to the place of meeting immediately so that he could tell his version but apart from laughing and calling Shayan a liar, he didn’t have much to add to the story. Sami Khan has underplayed this character beautifully. Shayan does not have a strong personality and he also does not think highly of himself which was the main reason why he fell for the lie Rehan told him.

Inkaar Episode 7 Story Review - Secrets Revealed

Overall Impression

The meeting place in this episode too seemed like a mazar which was rather odd since all of them were sitting there for the longest time. Also, if Shayan was with Rehan every now and then how come Hajra and her mystery friend couldn’t recall who he was? Hajra’s conversations with her mystery friend were an important part of the first few episodes but now all of a sudden that friend is completely missing. I am waiting to hear what Rehan Chaudhry has to say in his defense since in this episode he gave Shayan plenty of time to tell his story. Yumna Zaidi has acted brilliantly throughout, her expressions have especially been phenomenal. Sami Khan’s character it seems will be a lot like many of the characters he has played in the past but he plays these roles so well. The preview of the next episode suggested that Hajra will forgive Shayan and tell Rehan Chaudhry off once again. I feel for Shayan already since he is no match for Rehan and Rehan will most certainly strike back! The overall feel of this play is different, I still feel the actually story hasn’t started and that this play might have something bigger to offer.

Inkaar Episode 6 Story Review – Outstanding Performances

Brilliantly Executed

The opening scenes of this episode were brilliantly executed; the powerful performances and hard-hitting dialogues made these scenes impactful. These scenes showed Kashif Nisar’s brilliance since he made sure that every single expression was captured and the viewers felt everything the characters were going through. Hajra found out tonight that the house Chaudhry invited her to was actually Shayan’s house. Rehan revealed this secret after Hajra praised Shayan for his commitment to their relationship. Imran Ashraf and Yumna Zaidi acted exceptionally well in this opening scene. The scene covering Hajra’s visit to that house was also equally powerful. Hajra’s anger, shock and the sense of betrayal she felt was evident from her body language as well as expressions. She had just started to trust Shayan completely after the incident with Chaudhry therefore she felt like a fool herself too. Hajra holds her self-respect really dear which is why she never gave Chaudhry another chance. Although, she escaped unharmed but even then it took her months to get over what had happened. After meeting Shayan she had enough confidence to tell Rehan exactly what she thought about him.

Inkaar Episode 6 Story Review - Outstanding Performances

Rehan’s ego is hurt and that is the only reason why he wants Hajra in his life. Shayan’s relationship with his mother was also explored further in this episode. Their conversations revealed their feelings for Hajra and the respect both of them had for her. Shayan specially mentioned Hajra’s bravery and that basically showed that after finding out everything that transpired between Chaudhry and Hajra, his conclusion was that Hajra was extremely brave to escape from such a situation. The fact that she had the courage to share all this with Shayan must have made her appreciate her strength of character even more. Hajra and Shayan both are extremely likable characters who have flaws which make them more human.

Further Insights

Tonight’s episode also showed the kind of relationship Rehan had with his mother (Munazzah Arif). This is the first time that Munazzah Arif is playing such a character. It was definitely ‘new’ watching her in this role especially because of her overall look. She is a superb actress who always breathes life into her characters. The ‘modern’ upbringing and absence of any kind of limits was apparent from all these scenes. The mother was quite comfortable with everything from drug abuse to affairs.

The environment in Rehan’s house pretty much summed up why he has no moral values and absolutely no concept of respecting other people’s wishes. He is a spoiled brat who is used to having his way. Self gratification comes first and last for him. He doesn’t even see Hajra as a human being but as something he wants. He is also unable to understand how Shayan managed to win Hajra over since he failed to do so. Rehan Chaudhry surely comes from a completely different world. The writer has avoided cliches intelligently by showing that not all rich people are the same. Shayan is also affluent and clearly his father is an influential person yet he has certain values.

Inkaar Episode 6 Story Review - Outstanding Performances

I absolutely love Hajra’s father’s character; he is so open-minded and loving. His dialogues have been penned down beautifully and Rehan Sheikh fits perfectly in this role. The relationship these two have is simply beautiful. Sami Khan translated Shayan’s anger, helplessness and eagerness to set things right superbly on screen tonight.

Overall Impression

I am sure tonight the viewers had absolutely no trouble connecting to all the characters. Rehan Chaudhry’s scenes tonight clearly showed that there was absolutely no one who could hold him accountable therefore this man was capable of doing anything at all to get what he wants. Yumna Zaidi, Imran Ashraf and Sami Khan’s outstanding performances made this episode one of the best episodes of Inkaar so far. Will Hajra forgive Shayan? How far will Rehan Chaudhry go if she goes ahead with this marriage? Waiting to find out.

Inkaar Episode 5 Story Review – Intriguing

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar covered the change in Hajra’s personality and her growing affection for Shayan. Rehan Chaudhry came back in Hajra’s life when she was finally strong enough to move on. Why didn’t Rehan Chaudhry try to get in touch with Hajra earlier? The timeline in this episode was somewhat confusing and I am still waiting to see the friend Hajra was shown talking to on the phone. “No means no” seems to be the basic theme of this play so far. Hajra is an intelligent girl who has set certain boundaries for herself and she is not going to allow anyone to cross those boundaries. Hajra’s relationship with her father yet again was the highlight of this episode.

New Beginnings, Old Demons

Tonight’s episode opened with Hajra’s father having a conversation with his friend. Later on his conversation with Hajra showed the kind of relationship they had; sweet, frank and honest. Hafiz sahab’s character is likable and different. He is a religious person with strong principles but he is also open-minded. He is the reason why Hajra is so confident and sure about what she does and doesn’t want. The previous episode covered how Hajra fell in love with Shayan and in this episode the viewers were shown how this love changed her. Hajra lost her will to go on after what happened but now that she has met someone who loves and respects her despite of whatever happened in her past, she has a newfound confidence. Hajra was obviously afraid that her past will define the rest of her life but Shayan’s faith in her changed that altogether. The scenes covering Shayan and Hajra’s relationship were perfect especially after Rehan Chaudhry entered their lives again. Shayan could not talk about Rehan because Hajra doesn’t know that he knows him personally and Hajra did not talk about him either. The conversation Shayan and Hajra had when they were in the university was also quite meaningful and it gave further insight into Shayan’s character.

Inkaar Episode 5 Story Review - Intriguing

Hajra’s new beginning had not even properly taken off yet when she had to face old demons. The professor once again tried to take advantage of his position and Hajra told him off one more time. The scenes covering their interactions were rather long and these scenes could easily have been chopped down. Hajra’s scenes with Rehan Chaudhry showed clearly that Rehan could not take no for an answer. Even when he pleaded with her, it was evident that he was not actually ‘sorry’. His dialogues about Shayan showed that he knew Shayan well. Did he come back in Hajra’s life right now because he could not accept the fact that she had moved on? Where was Rehan Chaudhry all these months and if he wants Hajra in his life so badly why did he wait this long?

Overall Impression

This drama piques your curiosity and keeps your interest alive. Inkaar however has a very ‘old feel’ to it and perhaps giving it a slightly commercial feel would have made it more enticing for some of the viewers. The story however has potential and this episode suggested that Inkaar might have a bigger message too. The performances tonight were on point. Imran Ashraf and Sami Khan have done justice to their respective characters. Yumna Zaidi’s acting particularly has been superb throughout. The preview of the next episode was really enticing. The mystery will finally be solved in the next episode and Hajra’s heart will be broken once again. I am definitely rooting for Hajra and Shayan but will Rehan Chaudhry let them be together? Waiting to find out.

Inkaar Episode 4 Story Review – Love Is In The Air

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar was the best one so far because it had quite a few pleasant surprises. Most of the speculations regarding Shayan’s character proved to be wrong since he is as nice and genuine as he appears to be.

Hopelessly In Love

Shayan’s love for Hajra, the way he accepted Hajra wholeheartedly even after he found out about her past and everything he did to win her over made Shayan yet another leading character played by Sami Khan which is bound to be memorable. Although I wasn’t too excited about watching Sami Khan play this role, I am more convinced than ever today that he is going to be extremely likable as Shayan. Hajra’s scenes once again were the highlight of this episode. Yumna Zaidi completely stole the show with her brilliant performance. Hajra’s scenes were well written because the writer gradually showed how she fell in love with Shayan even though few days back she couldn’t bear to be around him. Shayan’s declaration of love came as a complete surprise to Hajra since she was expecting him to rethink his decision once she shared why she stopped going to college. After that Shayan never stopped surprising her.

Inkaar Episode 4 Story Review - Love Is In The Air

All these scenes were intelligently penned down and translated on screen equally well. One of my favorite scenes tonight was the one when Hajra comes back home from the school and asks Jawad if Shayan had hit him that day. Her body language, expressions and her dialogues clearly suggested that she was head over heels in love with this man. Hajra’s feelings were covered in a convincing manner tonight which made it easier for the viewers to connect to her character. Hafiz Sahab’s conversation with her daughter was meaningful as well as relevant. Apart from highlighting the hypocrisy which is so rampant in our society, it also highlighted the reasons why even a father like him succumbed to pressure. Hajra’s relationship with her father has always been heart-warming but this scene explored this relationship more than any other yet. Hafiz sahab’s confession came at a time when Hajra was already in love with Shayan therefore the timing was perfect too. The last scene which covered Rehan Chaudhry’s rage gave me goosebumps. He is not going to sit back and let Hajra get on with her life. This man is vile and the preview of the next episode clearly showed that he will get in touch not only with Hajra but also Shayyan. Imran Ashraf’s powerful performance in this scene said a great deal about his character. Definitely waiting to see more of him in the upcoming episode because it does seem like Rehan will be playing a vital role in taking the plot forward from here on.

Inkaar Episode 4 Story Review - Love Is In The Air

Overall Impression

Tonight’s episode was entertaining and it covered a great deal. Most of the scenes added something new to the story. The scene covering the staff room gossip however was yet again stretched and I couldn’t help but wonder why one of the teachers had a change of heart all of a sudden. The viewers saw a different side of Hajra’s mother tonight and Hajra too was relatively more honest with her. This was one of the best episodes of Inkaar so far. The story will get more interesting now that Rehan Chaudhry will be in the picture too. Will Rehan Chaudhry succeed in breaking up this engagement? Waiting to find out.

Please share your thoughts about this episode of Inkaar.

PS Sami Khan in a live session today informed his fans and followers that he has been quite unwell therefore he looks weak in this drama, he lost weight and obviously doesn’t look fresh enough due to the illness….something we all noticed. He is much better now, we wish him a complete and speedy recovery.

Inkaar Episode 3 Story Review – The Backstory

The backstory was revealed in this episode of Inkaar and Rehan Chaudhry’s character was finally introduced. The overall treatment given to this play is relatively slow and so far Hajra’s character is the most appealing aspect of every episode. Hajra’s relationship with her father has to be the most endearing part of every episode yet their relationship has not been given a lot of screen time. The viewers saw a more ‘soft’ side of Hajra’s character in this episode. She finally came out of her shell and the backstory showed that there was a time when she was not as cold as she is now.

Hajra and Rehan Chaudhry

Hajra has been introduced as an intelligent girl who has certain principles. The way Rehan Chaudhry won her over was the most convincing part of this episode. The writer did not leave anything to the viewer’s imagination. Hajra’s dialogues about how Rehan made her feel respected and special were right on point since they helped the viewers understand why a girl like her fell for someone like him. Imran Ashraf translated his character flawlessly on screen and Yumna Zaidi gave a solid performance throughout. You definitely wanted to know more about this track when the episode ended. Did Hajra manage to run away? Imran Ashraf and Yumna Zaidi both are the kind of actors who convey a great deal about their characters through their body language and expressions. Watching them in the same frame was nothing short of a treat even though some of these scenes were not executed impressively.

Inkaar Episode 3 Story Review - The Backstory

The backstory covered how Rehan Chaudhry refused to take no for an answer and did whatever he could to make Hajra trust him. The only reason why he pampered Hajra and made her feel like a chaudhren was because he wanted her to be completely blinded by her love for him. Hajra’s reaction when she found out what Rehan’s actual intentions were, went to show that she was a strong girl who wouldn’t give up or give in easily. Hajra chose to tell Shayan everything about her past and I am wondering if all these tracks somehow are interlinked in more ways than one. Haseeb Khan (the professor who harassed Hajra) is clearly being typecast since his role in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi was quite similar to the one he played tonight.

Overall Impression

I am seriously disappointed with the makeovers in general and the overall feel of this play since so far it seems like this script could have been given a less artsy and more commercial treatment. The pace of the drama so far is quite slow, the visuals are somewhat dull but the story is intriguing. The social commentary tonight gave an insight into Hajra’s character and the atmosphere in her house. I am waiting to find out more about Shayan’s character. Is he really as ‘perfect’ as he seems?

Inkaar Episode 3 Story Review - The Backstory

The preview of the next episode suggested that Shayan will be more than willing to love and accept Hajra even after finding out what she went through in the past. The story should get more interesting once and if Rehan Chaudhry is also a part of it in the present-day.

Inkaar Episode 22 Story Review – Another Dead End

This was another well paced episode of Inkaar which covered every little detail and emotion with utmost precision. The performances and the execution never disappoint and the script throughout has been faultless. Just when Hajra and Shayan thought that their ultimate sacrifice will prove to be a good trade-off, the other side exercised their influence and the balance of power shifted in their favor. Imran Ashraf’s performance tonight too was on point and Yumna Zaidi has done exceptionally well throughout. This drama continues to be real but never gets too dark since there is always hope that things will eventually work in Hajra’s favor.

The Conflicts

Every episode of this drama shows the characters in some conflicting situation. The manner in which these characters deal with these conflicts reveals more about their personalities. Shayan’s unconditional love for Hajra continues to be the most admirable aspect of his personality. This episode opened with a scene which showed Hajra struggling – saying yes would have meant letting her mother down and putting her brother’s life in danger and saying no would have meant going against her heart’s desire and not fulfilling the promise she made to her father. Hajra ultimately said yes after her father in a way reminded her of the promise she had made. This scene was directed so well, Hajra’s hesitation, her father’s strength and her mother’s breakdown – all of these made perfect sense.

I also loved the way Shayan asked Hajra if she entered into this nikkah with her own consent or was it because of her father’s pressure. On the one hand we have a man like Rehan, who doesn’t know the first thing about consent and on the other hand we have a man like Shayan who doesn’t want the woman who he loves so dearly to be in his life without her free consent. It was Hajra’s reply which gave Shayan even more strength and later on The conditions Rehan set for Jawad’s release made Shayan in particular do something he was never willing to do.

Honestly speaking, I am glad that Shayan’s father was not able to help him and ultimately this case will be decided in the court. This meant that Shayan and Hajra were free to be together, live their lives the way they wanted to and fight this war together.

Inkaar Episode 22

Change In Rehan’s Personality

Rehan is no longer the ‘love stricken’ desperate man he was before. The way he insulted Hajra and asked for an apology on social media clearly showed that he was now more influenced by his stepmother than ever before. He wants Hajra to look bad in front of the world while he automatically becomes the victim. Rehan’s character has been etched-out so well, he is twisted and disturbed, he has no values and no conscience and surely someone like him could only do something as horrific as he did to Hajra. Imran Ashraf has been outstanding as Rehan especially in these past few weeks. He makes you understand and relate to his character and as a consequence you can’t help but hate Rehan Chaudhry. He also helps the viewers understand the mindset of all such men who think they own the women who are or have ever been with them.

Final Remarks & The Preview

The attention to detail and the pace of this show has been superb throughout. The war between politics and bureaucracy was also covered in a realistic and interesting manner in this episode. The preview of the next episode was especially exciting! I was pretty sure that sooner or later, this case was going to go the court and that is where the story is headed. I am also hoping that at some point the CCTV footage will surface and that will make Hajra’s case stronger. Rehan’s frustration and the judge’s remarks in the preview of the next episode showed that this time around things will work in Hajra’s favor.

Inkaar Episode 21 Story Review – Thrilling and Meaningful

This was another thrilling episode of Inkaar with many hard hitting scenarios. Inkaar’s script is brilliantly penned out and the attention to detail makes it even more impressive. Tonight’s episode belonged to the father, who refused to give in to the pressure, the criminal who wanted his way at any cost and the friend/companion who vowed to stand by Hajra’s side. Shayan’s father’s role tonight showed the paradox he was in. Tonight’s episode belonged to Imran Ashraf, Rehan Sheikh and Sami Khan in particular. Their performances and the way their characters shaped up the story in this episode was outstanding. Shayan’s character growth has been shown in such an amazing manner.

The Twisted Story and The Response

Rehan Chaudhry’s statements tonight sounded a little too familiar – reminded me of Mohsin Abbas Haider’s press conference! Every time a woman stands up for herself, character assassination is the first weapon which is used against her. Rehan Chaudhry told ‘his side of the story’ which sounded so genuine and believable yet it was all a lie! He tried his best to tarnish Hajra’s reputation and made it look like he was the victim. The dialogues covering how he respected women were meant to change people’s opinion about him – another familiar scenario. Shayan’s response was on point and made perfect sense. We have seen this happening on media a little too often therefore I commend the writer for covering all these aspects so realistically and convincingly. Imran Ashraf’s performance while he was giving that interview was truly impressive. The way he changed his persona and stance as the camera turned off showed how easy it was to fool people and what a brilliant actor Imran Ashraf is!

inkaar1

Shayan and Hajra

Shayan has gradually managed to convince Hajra that he is going to be by her side no matter what. Not very long ago Hajra used to partially blame him as well but now she derives strength from him. Not only has Shayan and Hajra’s relationship developed in a good way in the past few weeks but Shayan has grown into a more responsible and confident person who has a purpose in life. Shayan was introduced as an overprotected child who never had the confidence to tell Hajra that he liked her. Now, he is willing to lay down his life for Hajra, for a purpose and he is not scared at all. Shayan’s letter was very meaningful because it showed that he was finally ready to fly on his own and Sami Khan’s expressions tonight translated that aspect of Shayan’s personality so well on screen.

inkaar3

The Conflicting Situations

Hajra’s mother had started to show love and support towards her but all that changed when Rehan Chaudhry kidnapped Jawad. She was willing to ‘trade’ Hajra for Jawad. This extremely conflicting and difficult situation showed once again what a strong person Hafiz sahib was. While Hajra’s mother’s breakdown made perfect sense, Hafiz Illyas’ decision was admirable. Apart from supporting his daughter, he also did not want to bow down to the Chaudhry’s demands. Rehan Sheikh is my all time favorite actor, he is extremely dedicated and his portrayals are always faultless. Shayan’s father too was shown facing an equally difficult situation – he wanted to save his son but his son was not interested in being saved. For the first time we saw a completely different side of Shayan’s father. He always had his own ways of making Shayan do things and made decisions which he thought were right but he always loved Shayan and will ultimately do whatever it takes to protect him. His involvement in this case and the ‘deal’ which they were shown talking about in the next episode will surely result in the shift of power. Noor-ul-Hassan owns his character and I absolutely love the versatility in his performances. Hajra too had to make many difficult decisions tonight, the most complex situation came at the end of this episode and we have yet to find out what Hajra does next.

Final Remarks

Inkaar is a complete package, it is written so well, directed impressively and the performances just get better with every passing episode. This drama keeps you hooked, inspired and in awe. Looking forward to the next episode.

Inkaar Episode 20 Story Review – The Power of Social Media

With this episode the battle which was lost in the court found a new momentum with social media and electronic media playing their role. This episode reminded me of the drama Meri Gurya because that battle too was ultimately won because of the power of social media. This is the reality of this modern era and very often social and electronic media play a major role in shaping up public opinion. Social media is often used by the victims as well as the perpetrators to highlight their plight and point of view. This puts more pressure on the concerned authorities and like Shehnaz pointed out tonight, the bigwigs can control political and administrative set up but they have little control over public opinion. This was another impeccably written episode of Inkaar – a drama which just keeps on getting better with every passing episode.

Hajra Decides To Fight Back

After the verdict Hajra once again lost the strength she had mustered up to fight Rehan Chaudhry but with this episode Shayan helped her greatly in regaining that strength and taking a step in the right direction. This episode covered convincingly how a video which highlighted the injustice done to Hajra went viral and made the Chaudhrys feel threatened yet again. Hajra’s initial reluctance and Shayan’s role in all this made this entire scenario more realistic. Even after playing such a major role in highlighting the issue and gaining media attention, Shayan felt that he had not done enough. The fact that Shayan was the one speaking for Hajra in that video will change the dynamics of the relationship between Shayan’s father and Chaudhry. Until now his father has been quite cooperative but now that his son is directly involved in the issue, things will change. Sami Khan’s convincing performance as the man who could do anything at all to make up for his mistake in order to gain the trust of the only woman he loved was simply faultless.

inkar 2

I absolutely loved how Yumna Zaidi’s dialogue delivery was so plain during the interview on television. She looked and sounded like someone who had never been on television and was only there to get the message across. For once, it seemed that Hajra’s mother too was slightly happy with the recent shift of events. This time around she did not say the kind of things she said in the previous few episodes. Hajra’s father’s fears too made perfect sense since he knows only too well that they are no match for the Chaudhrys. Watching Hajra acknowledge her father’s support through all her difficult times was the most emotional scene of this episode.

Powerful Messages

There have been many dramas in the past as well which have highlighted the importance of raising your voice and taking a stand. Personally, I feel that Inkaar is one of the best among all such dramas and this is also one of those messages which needs to be repeated over and over again. There are so many women like Hajra out there, who very often do not have the courage to come out in the open about the bitter experiences they have had. There are innumerable Rehan Chaudhrys as well, who think that they are always right no matter how wrong they are! Tonight’s episode showed how important it was for people to support victims like Hajra. The support given to Hajra by the school staff played a major role in giving her parents the assurance that there were people out there who were willing to stand by their daughter’s side. No matter how truthful someone is, they need validation from people around them and this validation plays a major role in shaping up social behaviors. Hajra went ahead and gave the interview without her parents’ permission, this was my favorite part since had she waited for their approval, she wouldn’t have been able to do anything. Sometimes when you are going to do something you truly believe is right then you don’t need to look for other people’s approval…sometimes you just go ahead and do what needs to be done. This drama has so many powerful messages put forward in the most impeccable manner.

inkar1

Final Remarks

This was another outstanding episode of a drama which always delivers. Everything about this episode was perfect but I especially liked how the writer has focused on every little detail. The most interesting thing about this drama is that it always has your undivided attention.

Inkaar Episode 2 Story Review – Living In The Past

This second episode of Inkaar gave further insight into the main characters. Hajra’s character is intriguing, her thoughts are interesting and her track has a really gloomy feel to it. While on the one hand her thoughts are rather unconventional, on the other hand she was also shown worrying about her reputation. Some of the scenes in this episode were somewhat preachy and the screenplay was different but at times not engaging enough.

Shayan and Hajra’s Track

Shayan’s determination to win Hajra over so that he could make her smile again was shown through different scenes in this episode. Shayan thought he was showing Hajra how much he loved her but Hajra felt uncomfortable around him. The dialogues about how a man can harass a woman just by his presence were quite interesting. These dialogues nicely summed up how Hajra felt while Shayan was around. We still don’t know what happened in Hajra’s past but it is quite evident that her thoughts are largely influenced by her past experiences. The screenplay reminds me of Muqabil because it makes the viewers constantly wonder what the backstory is. The leading lady’s thoughts and actions are determined by bitter experiences of the past and now there is a new man in her life who is willing to accept her for who she is. Shayan’s sketch of Hajra and his message clearly suggested that Hajra was a very different person before all of this happened.

Inkaar Episode 2 Story Review - Living In The Past
Hajra’s conversations with her friend give an insight into her thoughts but these conversations would have been so much more relatable if we actually got to see who this friend was! By the end of this episode Shayan and Hajra both left their jobs. When Hajra came back home she was not upset because she felt for Shayan but she was more concerned about how this incident made her exit from the school awkward. The only person Hajra listens to and wants to please is her father. By the end of this episode, her father made a decision which will change everything for Hajra. Will she end up getting married to man she does not even feel sorry for? Shayan’s role so far has nothing new to offer, it is a lot like many other characters Sami Khan has played in the past as well. So far, I haven’t warmed up to Shayan at all and I don’t find myself rooting for him.

Inkaar Episode 2 Story Review - Living In The Past

Overall Impression

This drama so far has an old and gloomy feel to it. Sami Khan’s makeover is turning out to be a major distraction. The good boy hairstyle and clean shave look does not look good on him. The grey foundation coupled with those black spots on his scalp (some kind of a hair treatment?) are also distracting. Sami Khan needed to look younger for this role but he actually looks too mature for it. Yumna Zaidi has played her role well and so far Hajra’s character is intriguing. Imran Ashraf will finally make an appearance in the next episode. The preview of the next episode also suggested that we might get to watch what happened in the past.

Inkaar Episode 19 Story Review – Powerful Dialogues

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar yet again showed in the most realistic manner possible the aftermath of the court’s judgment. Hafiz Illyas who had kept his cool till now, finally shared his true feelings with a friend. Hajra’s desperation and helplessness grew and her mother once again suggested an ‘easy way out’ which of course was unacceptable for Hajra. The highlight of this episode were all those beautifully penned down scenes and dialogues which shed light on the hypocrisy and injustice which unfortunately is a part of our social fabric. Yumna Zaidi and Rehan Sheikh’s performances in particular were outstanding tonight. Their characters and the relationship they share is the most heart-warming aspect of this drama.

Emotional Scenes

Tonight’s episode had so many emotional scenes starting from the apologies in the opening scenes to the confusion all these characters faced right till the end. The journeys of all the characters have been translated on screen in an impactful manner. It was also good to see Hajra’s mother playing the role of a mediator for a change. Although there have been many times when her decisions have anything but likable but overall Hajra’s mother’s character is multidimensional. She is not as strong as her husband or daughter and is usually looking for easier ways to please others. Yumna Zaidi’s expressions in the opening scene and in this episode overall were extremely powerful. A father’s apology and later on his confessions made Rehan Sheikh’s scenes some of the most intense scenes tonight. I absolutely loved what Hajra had to say about girls who are victimized in some way or the other. These dialogues were written so well and summed up how difficult it was for a woman to get justice.

Rehan Chaudhry’s track was really interesting tonight. While his mother tried to ‘rescue’ him, his stepmother kept on giving him drugs and ultimately even went to Hajra’s house to ask for her proposal. Rehan’s mother’s dialogues basically showed how simple his life was before he came to live with his stepmother. The writer has throughout laid stress on the importance of upbringing. Rehan would have been a different person if he was brought up by his own mother. Rehan was confused for a little while tonight but when he heard that staying with his stepmother would mean getting married to Hajra, making a decision was not difficult. Imran Ashraf nailed every single expression tonight especially while showing his character’s vulnerabilities and confusion. The way his stepmother tried to justify his behavior pretty much summed up why Rehan is such a twisted character.
I felt for Shayan tonight just as much as I did for Hajra and her father. He loves Hajra dearly and wants to do whatever he can to make things right yet Hajra cannot even stand to be around him because he reminds her of Rehan. Sami Khan’s expressions when Hajra tells Shayan to kill Rehan were priceless. In my opinion no other actor portrays the helplessness of a person who knows he is about to lose the love of his life better than him.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar highlighted the helplessness of all the characters in the most apt manner possible. This was an extremely upsetting episode but the preview of the next episode promised hope. Showing the vulnerabilities of these characters was crucial to the plot and these aspects make the story more realistic. This drama continues to be extremely powerful and I must say that the dialogues tonight were beyond impressive. Every actor performed extremely well and Kashif Nisar has once again shown his brilliance as a director.

Inkaar Episode 18 Story Review – The Best

This was a phenomenal episode of Inkaar, absolutely impressive in every single way. I honestly thought I had seen the best of Inkaar but team Inkaar keeps on surprising me in the best manner possible – perfect writing, direction and performances. Tonight’s episode of Inkaar was emotional and perfectly put together. Rehan Sheikh, Yumna Zaidi, Imran Ashraf, Sami Khan and Noor-ul-Hassan truly outdid themselves tonight.

Disappointments & Frustrations

Tonight’s episode opened with Shayan turning to his father for help because he knew that with Gullu Badshah out of the way Chaudhrys had a definite edge. This conversation between Shayan and his father was the perfect start to an episode which didn’t lose its momentum for even a minute. Shayan’s ‘lecture’ had absolutely no affect on his father who looks at things from a completely different angle. If it weren’t for people like him, all the Hajras out there would get justice so in a way he is equally to be blamed for what happened to Hajra. The writer has shown how wrong impressions can be, a ‘badmash’ can sometimes be the savior and a protector in a suit can be the biggest threat to justice. Shayan, it seems didn’t agree to his father’s top most condition which is why he refused to help him. I absolutely love how brilliantly Noor-ul-Hassan has translated his character on screen, those sarcastic and wicked expressions on his face are simply priceless. Sami Khan is effortlessly convincing as a young man trying his best to make things right but not succeeding at it. Sami Khan is at his best while conveying the frustration he feels when things get out of control or the times when Shayan has to show more flexibility.

Inkaar Episode 18 Story Review - The Best

The court scenes tonight were the highlight of this episode. Hajra’s lawyer’s opening statement was as honest as it could get. Through all these dialogues the writer highlighted few of the most bitter truths of our justice system. The rich and the powerful get away with murder because of the reasons which have been so aptly shown in this drama. The helplessness of the side which actually should have had an edge in this case was shown superbly. Hajra and her father had vowed to fight their case till the end, if not for Hajra than for Gullu but the lawyer knew only too well that they didn’t stand a chance. All these scenes were extremely emotional, Rehan Sheikh and Yumna Zaidi have been outstanding throughout but their scenes tonight were the best. Mansoor Jamal’s entry after Gullu Badshah was out of the way made perfect sense.

Rehan Chaudhry’s confidence, sheer ignorance, arrogance and naivety knows no bounds. When he walked out of the courtroom he was so sure that his mother will keep her promise, not considering for a second even what must be going through Hajra’s mind at that time. Imran Ashraf’s performance tonight was absolutely faultless in every way. He made the most of every single scene and captured the essence of all the emotions his character was going through. Hajra’s brother has continuously been a source of even more frustration at home and today eventually his father completely lost it. This was also one of the best scenes tonight which showed the level of anger this father felt.

Inkaar Episode 18 Story Review - The Best

Tonight’s episode ended with Rehan Chaudhry realizing that his mother perhaps won’t keep her promise. Will that change anything? How will Hajra and her father recover from this awful experience? This battle is definitely not over just yet. I haven’t seen the preview of the next episode yet therefore I have no idea what the next episode has in store.

Final Remarks

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar was picture perfect in every way and it was also extremely poignant. Inkaar is turning out to be an exceptional serial which never disappoints. Looking forward to watching more exciting, emotional and meaningful episodes of this amazing serial.

Inkaar Episode 16 Story Review – Brilliantly Done

This was another phenomenal episode of Inkaar which covered the legal proceedings as well as the struggles of different characters in an impactful manner. The performances and the execution continue to be impressive. This show is also well-paced since every episode has substantial developments to its credit. The writer has done complete justice to all the tracks by highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of different characters in such a way that it is extremely easy to connect to their struggles. This episode also depicted a real picture of the bitter realities of the society we live in. Hajra’s strength, her resilience and the relationship she has with her father was yet again the highlight of this episode. The writer has realistically shown that choosing the path Hajra and her father have chosen is extremely difficult.

Latest Developments

Without wasting any time, the writer covered the direction this legal case was going to take by showing different hearings. Tonight’s episode opened with Rehan changing his statement and that’s when his lawyer decided that making up a story to prove that Hajra wasn’t as ‘innocent’ as she was trying to prove because this would strengthen their case. The idea perhaps was that proving Hajra wrong would help them prove that she was a liar who couldn’t be trusted. Hajra’s lawyer’s confidence and the mention of the CCTV footage suggested that his approach was going to be more professional than that of Rehan’s lawyer.

Inkaar Episode 16 Story Review - Brilliantly Done

Rehan’s mother actually went to meet Hajra and it seems like she also thinks that she can perhaps persuade Hajra to ‘forgive’ her son. Although Rehan’s mother is not the kind of person who would approve of whatever her son did but the fact that she is doing exactly what he wants shows that she probably blames Rehan’s father and stepmother more than Rehan for whatever happened. Rehan’s frame of mind was also shown extremely convincingly. He is a psychopath who only knows what he wants – other than that he doesn’t care about anything else. His sole motivation right now is that if he gets away, he can marry Hajra! This basically goes to show that he does not understand the gravity of the situation and wants what he likes at all costs.

Shayan on the other hand is silently doing whatever Hajra wants him to do. He is the perfect example of a man who not only respects the woman he loves but would also do anything for her – even if that means staying away from her. Hajra’s attempts to keep everyone she loves and cares about away from the hearing which would cover details she didn’t want these people to hear, was one of the most emotional parts of this episode. I couldn’t help but think about the initial episodes in which Hajra was shown as a withdrawn person solely because of the fact that she allowed herself to be fooled in such a manner. She loves her father more than anyone else therefore she was also disappointed in herself for letting her father down. Now watching her face all those questions and worry about what was going through her father’s head made me feel for both of them.

Inkaar Episode 16 Story Review - Brilliantly Done

Final Remarks

The best part of this episode was watching Hajra smiling when her lawyer pointed out things which would go in her favor, she also took a few decisions which showed that she wants to be in control now and watching her determination in the next episode’s preview was an absolute delight. Yumna Zaidi’s brilliant performance makes her scenes even more powerful. Imran Ashraf owns his role completely. Sami Khan and Shayan’s character is extremely likable. Rehan Sheikh once again outshines in one of the best roles he has played. I absolutely love the grace he adds to this character. This fight is going to get more intense, this episode proved that the writer is going to stay focused and will not be wasting any time beating around the bush therefore really looking forward to the upcoming episodes.

Inkaar Episode 15 – The Legal Battle

The scene is set for a legal battle which is bound to be an eye-opener especially for Rehan Chaudhry and his family. Tonight’s episode was yet again brilliant in so many ways. I absolutely love Hafiz Sahib and Shayan’s characters – the kind of unconditional support these two have given Hajra all this time is something we rarely get to see in our dramas. Hajra’s brother fits the role of the typical male characters we see more often in our dramas – the kind whose egos are hurt easily and are constantly judging their womenfolk. Therefore watching strong male characters who stand by their daughters and fiancés/wives is always refreshing. The kind of men who hold their loved ones so dear that they don’t care about what people might say or do. Hajra is still quietly enduring whatever is thrown her way with her father by her side at all times. Once again Yumna Zaidi nailed every single scene tonight even though she hardly had any dialogues. After Dar Si Jati Hei Sila, Yumna Zaidi has proved yet again that she has the kind of acting prowess which doesn’t even need the aid of too many dialogues.

The Characters & Their Struggles

Shayan decided to leave the house after finding out the truth and the way his mother has supported him throughout has been truly endearing. She likes the fact that her son hasn’t chosen the easy path and is fighting for the woman he loves. Shayan feels guilty for doubting Hajra and he has to fight for Hajra’s attention and love once again. Sami Khan’s character in this play is a lot like the one he played in Aisi Hei Tanhai. Sami Khan definitely is extremely convincing as the sacha ashiq who might make mistakes but will always make up for whatever he does wrong. He makes you feel and root for him because he emotes so well.

Inkaar Episode 15 - The Legal Battle

Rehan’s scenes tonight showed his overconfidence and the role his upbringing played in making him the sick person he is today. Surrounded by bad role models and people who were constantly covering up for him, Rehan Chaudhry never got the opportunity to learn the difference between right and wrong. Even now he thinks he can win Hajra over and tonight too he once again talked about killing her if she couldn’t be his! I am so happy that his guilt and remorse has been relegated to the background because surely someone like him doesn’t have much of a conscience. The sense of ownership towards a person who has rejected him repeatedly and now wants to see him being convicted basically shows just how ignorant he is. The role his mother played tonight made perfect sense as well, it was good to see that her part is not over yet. Imran Ashraf’s performance tonight was right on point. He makes Rehan’s craziness and his lack of respect for others come alive on screen convincingly. This is yet another difficult character which Imran Ashraf owns completely. His expressions tonight were priceless especially in the court scenes.

Inkaar Episode 15 - The Legal Battle

Chaudhry’s meeting with the lawyer was written so well and I loved the outcome. I wasn’t expecting Hajra to have such a ‘capable’ lawyer on her side but looks like Gullu Badmash is going to do everything it takes to teach Rehan Chaudhry a lesson. Gullu’s conversation with Chaudhry was one of my favorites tonight – those dialogues about a badmash teaching another badmash a lesson were music to my ears. This drama reminds me of dramas like Udaari and Meri Gurya but I have to say that the story overall so far has been extremely well put together and in many ways much better than many other dramas which covered similar topics.

Final Remarks

This was one of the best episodes of Inkaar. The performances, script and the direction has been topnotch throughout. The preview of the next episode promised more hope and I am also looking forward to Hajra and Shayan’s meeting. I am totally rooting for them because both of them deserve to be happy. Looking forward to a legal battle which will eventually lead to a conviction which would give Rehan Chaudhry the kind of reality check he needs.

Inkaar Episode 14 Story Review – Apologies and Consequences

The story took a different turn with this episode and even though this was a relatively slow-paced episode but every scene took the story forward in a different direction. The misunderstanding between Hajra and Shayan wasn’t prolonged and it was good to see Shayan figuring out things on his own. Rehan Chaudhry’s twisted state of mind was shown through different scenes, you can’t help but hate this man. Hajra’s state of shock and despair was shown convincingly without using a lot of dialogues. The way Hajra’s father has stood by her side continues to be the most refreshing element of a drama which highlights many bitter realities of the society we live in. This was another episode of Inkaar which showed how different players in this game of power and money bend the rules sometimes for good and most of the times for controlling the system which is meant to protect the public. All of this has been shown so convincingly that all these situations truly serve as a reality check which can also be quite frightening.

Latest Developments

Tonight’s episode opened with Gullu badmash turning the tables after he found out what actually happened. In one of the previous episodes the viewers were shown how much Gullu respected Hajra’s father therefore it didn’t come as a surprise that he went all out to support him. Although he is a ‘badmash’ but right now he is the only person whose support will change everything. The fact that he got the FIR registered and is adamant on making sure that the Chaudhry’s feel the heat makes it quite clear that he will play a key role in supporting Hajra’s father. It was definitely good watching Hafiz Illyas get such a support since otherwise he would have been completely helpless.

Inkaar Episode 14 Story Review - Apologies and Consequences

Rehan’s reactions when his stepmother was narrating everything she had done for him so far went to show his lack of interest but the second he heard that Shayan and Hajra had broken up, he was alert and interested. I am sure I am not the only one who hated this man’s guts tonight, his concept of ‘love’ is just as twisted as his personality. Rehan’s character has been etched-out brilliantly; the way he has been raised leaves no room for guilt or shame! Imran Ashraf was at his best in the hospital scene. The fact that Rehan thought that he could just apologize and ask for Hajra’s hand in marriage said a great deal about his character. In his statement too he narrated everything in such a way as if he had done nothing wrong. Rehan so far seems like a psychopath/sociopath who has no concept of right and wrong. The way he laughed through it all also showed that he is really sure that he will be saved by his stepmother. I also liked how his father’s reaction has been shown, it is very different from his stepmother’s reaction. While the stepmother is only doing her ‘job’, the father is concerned about his name and his political career.

Hafiz Illyas brushing his daughter’s hair had to be one of the sweetest scenes we have seen in Pakistani dramas. Yumna Zaidi and Rehan Sheikh are surely a force to reckon with since their on-screen chemistry and their relationship in this drama has been exceptional throughout. Yumna Zaidi once again translated Hajra’s physical and emotional exhaustion superbly.

Inkaar Episode 14 Story Review - Apologies and Consequences

Shayan’s apology was another important development in this episode. Hajra is heartbroken as well tired and she clearly does not have the stamina to deal with another relationship which requires a lot of effort. You feel for Hajra every step of the way and at the same time Shayan’s confusions and frustrations are equally easy to connect to. Sami Khan is one of those very few actors who always nail every role they choose to play and he did really well in the apology scene tonight.

Final Remarks

This drama definitely holds your attention and makes you think about all those people who seek justice and have to go through similar situations. The performances and the execution tonight was faultless but there were times when some of the scenes were a bit stretched. Looking forward to the court scenes and waiting to find out what is going on in Hajra’s mind.

Inkaar Episode 13 Story Review – Emotional

Inkaar is getting better with every passing episode and even though we have seen plenty of dramas covering similar scenarios (rich vs. the not so rich victims) but in my opinion there can never be enough dramas which highlight the plight of girls like Hajra. Tonight’s episode belonged to Hajra’s father; the way he has stood by his daughter and finds it impossible to forgive and forget, continues to be the best part of this drama. The writer did a commendable job of laying down the perfect foundations for the upcoming events in the previous few episodes. Even when Hajra and her father didn’t have a lot of scenes together, their relationship was always special. The turn Shayan’s character took was unexpected but given the circumstances, his confusion makes perfect sense. This episode had many emotional and insightful conversations which were penned down beautifully. The performances yet again were impressive and just like every other drama directed by Kashif Nisar, this one too has a definite flow.

The Pressures & The Challenges

This episode opened with a conversation which highlighted Hajra’s father’s limitations and how difficult it was for him to register an FIR with the police. This problem is faced by many people in this situation therefore one which is relatable for anyone who reads or watches the news on regular basis. The societal pressures are yet another reason why people like Hajra’s father most often choose to stay silent. Taking a stand against the rich and powerful is tough and the consequences are unimaginable. Even though Hajra’s mother and brother told him to stay quiet, he decided to go to the police. We definitely need to see more such fathers in our dramas. The ‘log kya kahenge’ conversation was well written and acted out. It highlighted the insensitive side of our society in the most apt manner possible. Rehan Sheikh and Yumna Zaidi’s on-screen chemistry has definitely added more life to their characters and relationship.

Inkaar Episode 13 Story Review - Emotional

Even though Hajra is not well and she knows she needs to stay in the hospital longer but she kept on reassuring her parents that she was well enough to go home. Hajra always felt extremely guilty for trusting Rehan Chaudhry even when no one knew what had transpired between them and now that everyone knows about it, she feels more guilty than ever. Hajra’s helplessness and her attempts to ‘console’ her parents even though she is the one who needs more consolation than anyone else, makes you like her character and feel for her even more.
As soon as Hajra’s father went to the police, the attitude of the hospital staff changed instantly. The way Hajra’s father tried to reason out with the doctor and the manner in which the doctor told him off was extremely heart wrenching. These were the kind of scenes that make you think about all such people who face all these challenges and most of them eventually give up. The way such people are denied their basic rights is extremely sad.

Shayan fell for the lie his father told him but I am hoping that his mother will make him understand that Hajra would never do something like that. Sami Khan did not get a lot of screen time tonight but his performance was powerful enough to leave an impact. Shayan has been through a lot in these 2 days or so and now it is almost as if he cannot even think straight. Rehan Chaudhry’s scenes once again showed why he is so spoiled and so used to having his way. The scene with his ‘girlfriend’ showed that he was feeling guilty but people around him were constantly telling him that he didn’t need to feel bad. The environment is Rehan’s house shows how he must have been brought up and the writer has shown convincingly why he turned out to be such a twisted person. Imran Ashraf makes you hate Rehan just as easily as he made us fall in love with Bhola. He makes sure he conveys every little emotion perfectly. Even the actor who played the doctor’s role, did so well. Every single actor acted brilliantly tonight and I am impatiently waiting for someone Hajra’s father can lean on. Yumna Zaidi’s realistic portrayal has been beyond impressive since she completely looks the role.

Inkaar Episode 13 Story Review - Emotional

Final Remarks

Inkaar is one of my favorite dramas nowadays, it is yet another masterpiece by Kashif Nisar. Zafar Mairaj’s soul-stirring dialogues tonight made this episode truly emotional. Really looking forward to the next episode and rooting for Hajra and her father already.

Eid Mubarak to all our lovely readers. May this Eid bring all of you tons of joy and happiness.

Inkaar Episode 12 Story Review – Phenomenal Performances

This was another phenomenal episode of Inkaar which yet again transported me to another world. Tonight’s episode was faultless just like last week, in every way possible. The performances were remarkable and although some of the scenes were difficult to translate on screen but Kashif Nisar proved that under his guidance even the most challenging scenes can be executed with perfection. All the actors truly outdid themselves tonight and made this episode gripping as well as impactful.

The Characters & Situations

Hajra’s father’s unconditional love for her, her mother’s judgmental behavior, Shayan’s anger, Rehan’s disillusionment, Rehan’s mother’s helplessness and his father’s attempts to save him – all these situations and emotions were easy to connect to because of the realistic feel of this episode. The ‘practical’ aspect of this entire scenario was shown brilliantly tonight. Shayan’s father’s mind games and his decision made complete sense. The fact that he did not want to support Hajra did not come as a surprise but the way his ‘limitations’ were shown was remarkable. Shayan’s relationship with Rehan’s mother was also the highlight of this episode. He showed his good upbringing by hiding the truth from her and she showed how different she was from her husband and Shehnaz. These scenes gave further insight into the role Shehnaz has played over the years. She continuously kept on reassuring Chaudhry that she was going to take care of everything and reminded him that he needed to concentrate on his political career.

Inkaar Episode 12 Story Review - Phenomenal Performances

Victim blaming is a normal occurrence in such incidents and the writer through various scenes tonight, once again showed how Hajra and her family were suffering more than the perpetrators because people in our society judge women more than men. The difference in their class is another reason why it is easier for the Chaudhry’s to have their way. People usually forget what a woman has gone through when they find out that she was having an affair! That is exactly what has happened to Hajra. The way Hajra’s father has stood by her is one of the best things about this drama especially because he is also a religious figure. Hajra’s mother’s reaction was completely in line with her character and the writer has intelligently shown the difference between the right and wrong approach by showing these varying reactions from all sides.

Outstanding Performances

The outstanding performances tonight by all the actors and the on-screen chemistry between them made this episode truly spellbinding. Sami Khan is definitely at the top of his game right now because his portrayals are always superb. Imran Ashraf didn’t have a lot of dialogues tonight but he did exceptionally well in the confrontation scene in particular. What is going through Rehan Chaudhry’s mind? I am waiting to find out. Rehan Sheikh and Yumna Zaidi together are simply mind-blowing, their scenes throughout have been heart-warming as well as exceptionally well acted out. Noor-ul-Hassan is a personal favorite who never disappoints. Munazzah Arif is turning out to be a versatile actress who always gives every role she plays her best. All the other actors too deserve all the praise for doing complete justice to their respective characters.

Inkaar Episode 12 Story Review - Phenomenal Performances

Final Remarks

This was hands down one of the best episodes of Inkaar because of the way every single emotion was translated beautifully on screen. This was the kind of episode which makes you feel proud of the exceptional talent we have. Zafar Miraj’s script so far has been right on point and Inkaar just gets better with every passing episode. The story has just started and after watching this latest episode I have even higher hopes from team Inkaar. There is so much to look forward to, I can’t wait to watch the next episode.

Inkaar Episode 11 Story Review – Brilliantly Done

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar covered the aftermath of the attack on Hajra in the most apt manner possible. Every aspect of this problematic and extremely sensitive situation was covered in the most realistic and detailed manner possible. The dialogues in this episode were phenomenal throughout and there wasn’t a single scene which was out of place or unnecessary.

Perfect In Every Way

Tonight’s episode belonged to the writer, director and the actors involved since it was perfect in every way. This episode of Inkaar also had the most heart touching scenes which were acted out faultlessly. It is always a pleasure watching your favorite actors in situations which bring out the best in them. Yumna Zaidi and Rehan Sheikh nailed their scenes together. These scenes were also written beautifully because they showed a father’s helplessness and a daughter’s guilt superbly with great clarity.

Inkaar Episode 11 Story Review - Brilliantly Done

Although, the writer made it quite clear in the previous few episodes that Hajra was in no way responsible for whatever happened to her but the scene in which she apologized showed that she still blamed herself for falling for someone like Rehan Chaudhry. Shayan’s frame of mind was translated on screen equally well by Sami Khan. His anger and outrage made perfect sense and the fact that he did not go back running to the hospital made it even more relatable. He did not want to listen to anyone’s reasoning and the conversation he had with his father also suggested that this wasn’t the first time that Rehan had wronged him. These were the kind of details which made this episode one of the best ones so far. People like Rehan usually show signs of their psychopathic personality early on in life. Shayan was always asked to ignore Rehan’s wrongdoings even when he was justified in reacting in a relatively violent manner. It seemed like Shayan wanted to take revenge for everything Rehan had done to him till date and all his pent up anger needed an outlet now which is why he even refused to listen to Hajra.

Easy To Connect To

Rehan’s stepmother’s role in spoiling him was further highlighted in this episode. This woman has no feelings and she is only ‘doing her job’ which most often involves covering up for her husband and son. Munazzah Arif has done complete justice to this role. Hajra’s mother and father’s conversation was right on point, I could understand their anger, disappointment, shock and fears so well. While her mother pleaded her daughter’s case in front of her son, she knew she could share her vulnerabilities and fears with her husband. Hajra’s mother has always been shown as a conservative and rigid woman who will probably give her a really tough time even now. The ‘log kya kahenge’ part was also covered in an impressive manner since very often people in this situation are pushed to worry about what people think more than the situation they are in. I am looking forward to watching what Hajra’s state of mind will be like once she is out of this trauma and can think straight. Rehan is injured and heart broken as well. All his scenes tonight showed that he never wanted to hurt Hajra and the reality of what he did is setting in. That doesn’t change the fact that he is the criminal and it would be great to see Hajra fighting to put him behind the bars. Imran Ashraf’s performance tonight was the best when Rehan had that conversation with his mother. Rehan is still confused and physically not fit enough to move around on his own therefore right now Shayan is running the show.

Inkaar Episode 11 Story Review - Brilliantly Done

Overall Impression

The preview of the next episode showed that Shayan will finally find Rehan and will try to attack him. I can’t wait to watch their scenes and confrontation in the upcoming episode. Special thanks and appreciation for Yumna Zaidi for truly looking like someone who was going through hell. I hope all those actresses who find it impossible to look this way on screen would learn a thing or two from these scenes. Her makeover tonight made these scenes even more realistic. I absolutely loved this highly emotional and charged episode of Inkaar. Kashif Nisar directed tonight’s episode brilliantly and most of the performances tonight were truly mind-blowing.

Inkaar Episode 10 Story Review – Bitter Realities Shown Realistically

Powerful, engaging and emotional – tonight’s episode of Inkaar covered the aftermath of the attack on Hajra superbly in every possible way. Perfect screenplay, brilliant direction and convincing portrayals made this episode truly effective. The manner in which the resulting chaos was covered gave this episode a realistic feel and made me reflect upon all such real-life incidents (unfortunately there are so many of them). How easy it is for men like Rehan to cover up for their crimes and how terribly difficult it is for all the Hajras out there to get justice. Tonight’s episode resonated with me especially because today Shahrukh Jatoi and his accomplices’ death sentence was reduced to life imprisonment. The victory sign dialogue definitely hinted towards Shahrukh Jataoi’s attitude after his court hearing therefore it was painfully realistic.

The Aftermath

Everything about this episode was perfect starting from the opening scene to the last one. The way everyone reacted to the terrible news and rushed to the hospital was covered perfectly. Shayan knew right from the start that Rehan was the one behind this attack but the police covered up for him. I especially like Shayan’s father’s character because it’s not clichéd. Rehan’s stepmother played a vital role in covering up his tracks and it won’t be wrong to say that she is wholly responsible for turning him into the monster he is today. Rehan’s father left all his upbringing to her and she obviously thought that pleasing Rehan was the only way to bring him up. I am glad that the writer has shown two affluent families, influential households but their thought processes are completely different.

Inkaar Episode 10 Story Review - Bitter Realities Shown Realistically

Shayan and Hajra

Shayan’s meeting with Hajra and all his scenes tonight were the highlight of this episode. He felt responsible for what had happened because he trusted Rehan in ways he shouldn’t have. Hajra’s father’s faith in God seemed to be the main reason why he was more composed than his wife and even Shayan. Hajra has always been a fighter therefore watching her regain consciousness and tell everyone who the assailant actually was didn’t come as a surprise but was a relief. It was good to see that this part was wrapped up quickly instead of prolonging Hajra’s unconscious state and stretching this part of the track. The writer surely hit the nail on the head with those dialogues about how a man like Rehan can get away with murder with his head held high while a victim like Hajra has to face the pressure and heat.

Splendid Performances

Tonight’s episode of Inkaar was simply flawless. Every single scene was brilliantly put together. The real story has just started and it remains to be seen how far Hajra, her family, Shayan and his family will go to get justice. Rehan’s father will do everything it takes to ensure that this case doesn’t go to the court. This fight will be just as challenging for Shayan as it will be for Hajra. I can already see Hajra’s mother convincing her to forgive and forget but I am waiting to see what decision her father takes.

Inkaar Episode 10 Story Review - Bitter Realities Shown Realistically

Sami Khan’s performance tonight was beyond exceptional; he translated Shayan’s guilt, confusion, helplessness and anger superbly on screen. Noor-ul-Hassan is another actor who fits perfectly well in all the characters he chooses to play. Rehan Sheikh has added more grace to his character and Imran Ashraf is making sure that he translates Rehan’s twisted state of mind perfectly on screen. The mere sight of Rehan makes you cringe and that is exactly the way this character should be portrayed. I still feel however that we don’t know Rehan’s character well enough and I am waiting to see what his reaction will be once and if Shayan confronts him. Yumna Zaidi makes you feel for her character with her effortless portrayal; her performance is always the perfect example of how actors can use only their expressions to convey their feelings. Looking forward to the next episode already.

Inkaar Episode 1 Story Review – Heartbreak & Rejection

Written By: Zafar Mairaj
Directed By: Kashif Nisar
Produced By: MD Productions

This drama has some of the most talented individuals from the drama industry associated with it therefore it is only natural for the viewers to have high expectations from it. Personally for me the biggest attraction was the cast and the director. Zafar Mairaj has also given us some interesting plays in the recent past therefore I was waiting to see what he has in store for the viewers this time around.

Heartbreak and Rejection

The first episode of Inkaar focused a great deal on Hajra (Yumna Zaidi), the main protagonist. The fact that someone broke Hajra’s heart and made it difficult for her to go on with life was well established from the first scene. The school Hajra works in is more of a distraction which helps her cope with this situation. Hajra’s father Hafiz Sahab (Rehan Sheikh) had big plans for her and her mother too was equally shocked by Hajra’s decision to give up her studies. Hafiz Sahab came across as an open-minded individual who was not happy about his daughter’s choices but was understanding nevertheless. Hajra’s mother seemed to be more strict and judgmental. The relationship between all the family members was a lot like what we would normally see in a more affluent and educated household. Hajra was introduced as an intelligent girl who spoke her mind and even though she was breaking up inside, she did not let that stop her from trying her best to go on with life. I am waiting to find out more about Hajra’s character and her backstory. Hajra’s conversations with her friend on the phone were covered in an interesting manner.

Inkaar Episode 1 Story Review - Heartbreak & Rejection

The Proposal

Shayan’s (Sami Khan) proposal for Hajra and the ‘inkaar’ was somewhat surprising since this relationship started in an ‘unusual’ manner. Shayan comes from a completely different background and his father (Noor-ul-Hassan) in particular didn’t seem like the kind of man who would go to a halwai’s house to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Noor-ul-Hassan is playing a role very different from the roles he has played so far. Rehan Sheikh was convincing as usual and his character was quite balanced. Shayan’s refusal to accept Hajra’s rejection and his determination to win her over reminded me of many other such characters Sami Khan has played before. I can already predict that he won’t give up and will eventually win Hajra over, after all it is Sami Khan who is playing this role – this guy does not believe in giving up!

Inkaar Episode 1 Story Review - Heartbreak & Rejection

Overall Impression

Just like Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, Imran Ashraf did not make an appearance in this first episode. The rest of the characters were introduced in a detailed manner in this first episode and some of the situations were surprising. Yumna Zaidi and Sami Khan played their part well but Sami Khan’s grey foundation which covered only his face proved to be a huge distraction. This first episode was decent enough but definitely not one which wins you over.  I have a lot of faith in Inkaar’s team therefore will definitely be tuning in next week.

The Preview

The preview of the next episode showed Shayyan going out of his way to win Hajra over. Hajra’s mother and brother were shown suspecting her. I am expecting Inkaar to be much more than a love story.

Inkaar Episode 17 Story Review – Powerful

This latest episode of Inkaar was terribly upsetting and with this episode Hajra lost her biggest support. The dialogues, situations and performances continue to be impressive. The clarity with which the writer has covered every minute detail covering the importance of consent in a relationship makes Inkaar the best drama on the subject. Kashif Nisar has given this perfectly written script the right treatment. The director has translated this story as honestly on screen as it could be told.

New Developments

Tonight’s episode opened with Hajra giving a beautiful answer to a difficult question. Hajra’s dialogues were meaningful and deep. Just because a girl sends a man she likes romantic messages, it doesn’t mean that this man has the right to do what Rehan Chaudhry did with Hajra. There can be a difference between what you say and what you actually want. Hajra explained that in the best manner possible. Had she wanted to get physical with Rehan, she wouldn’t have ran away that day. Later on, the way Hajra’s father stood by his daughter’s side was heart-warming. While it was shown that her father did not judge her or ‘hate’ her because of the mistakes she had made in her past, it was also shown that he was obviously affected by everything he saw and heard in the courtroom. This was a true depiction of a difficult situation.

Inkaar Episode 17 Story Review - Powerful

The feelings of all the other characters were shown in detail and quite convincingly as well. The detail with which everything has been covered without slowing down the pace of the show is what makes this drama so good. Rehan’s real mother’s feelings are completely different from how his stepmother looks at this situation. His real mother wants him to learn and mend his ways, she also blames herself because she let his father take him away from her. The stepmother on the other hand couldn’t care less, she has always looked for ways to make Rehan happy without taking into consideration that such gratification might destroy his personality altogether. Although Gullu badshah’s end was extremely saddening but it was definitely realistic. Had the Chaudhry been shown as a helpless man, it wouldn’t have been convincing. In the end Shayan’s father helped him to get Gullu badshah out of the way. Gullu died a hero’s death and the last scene covering how he wasn’t anticipating this at all was simply amazing. Iftikhar Iffi, the actor playing the role gave a brilliant performance throughout and I am sure everyone is waiting to find out how this will affect Hajra’s case. Hajra has lost the edge she had and Chaudhry will be more confident than ever now.

Inkaar Episode 17 Story Review - Powerful

Hajra and Rehan’s mother’s scene was one of my favorite scenes tonight – the dialogues and performances made this such a powerful scene. Rehan’s mother it seems was trying to do damage control when she asked Hajra for forgiveness. Hajra’s reply couldn’t have been more apt. It has been great watching Hajra’s confidence and determination but the people she is fighting are much more powerful and cruel than she could have imagined.

Shayan’s role has been relegated to the background for now. He has been shown as a decent man who is so in love with Hajra that he simply follows her lead and is at times incapable of taking decisions on his own. Hajra does not want Shayan back in her life right now but I am hoping that she will start sharing her fears and insecurities with him soon.

The Preview

The preview of the upcoming episode was alarming but hopefully the CCTV footage will surface from somewhere and the tables will turn. Rehan still thinks Hajra will marry him! Waiting for Shayan to play a bigger role in the picture and eagerly waiting for Rehan to pay for what he did to Hajra.

Final Remarks

This episode of Inkaar was powerful. All the actors playing the leading roles and the supporting roles have acted so well which definitely adds to the appeal of this drama. Kashif Nisar is one of those few directors in our industry who knows which actor can do justice to a specific character. Even the relatively new faces are so well-suited for the characters they are playing.

Political tensions have grown extremely between India and Pakistan since the Pulwama attack. Indian artists, as well as businessmen, have been boycotting Pakistan without any evidence and their social media was filled with extreme jingoism. Things got even worse after their Airforce tried to enter Pakistan and the Indian media was doing even more hate-mongering.

In the light of the situation, Information minister Fawad Chaudhary has banned the release of all the Indian films while all other Indian content on Pakistani channels has also been banned. This is what Mr. Fawad Chaudhary had to say:

Let’s see how the situation changes from there!
