Actress Nimra Khan and Hina Altaf talked about much controversial slogan from Aurat March which is ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’. Both the actresses shared their opinion on this slogan.
Nimra Khan clarified the meaning of the slogan and said, “I think people have misunderstood this slogan. It is for girls who are being raped at such a young age and we don’t have a platform where they can raise voice to get justice. This slogan simply means that women must have the authority to make their own decisions.”
“I don’t know why it got so much hype and I have no point of view on this,” she added.
Hina Khan jumped in the conversation and said, “Mera jism meri marzi means if I don’t want to talk to any person I will not. If I am not saying yes for any work it’s my own choice, nobody can force it.”
She further added and said, “I think its a long debate and it will go on.”
Nimra Khan added another point in the debate and said, “I think its fight for equality and women have the option to go out or not to earn money but it is compulsory for men to earn. So, they are struggling and they have their journey.”

The first half of this latest episode of Sabaat was fast-paced and relatively more impactful. The story moved forward to the next phase with this episode. My favorite part from tonight’s episode of Sabaat was Anaya’s reaction when Miraal hit her. Although this drama is definitely not free from stereotypes but there is always something in every episode that is unexpected. I do feel however that some of the scenes lose their impact because the dialogues and situations are too plain.
Miraal and Naani
I am glad that Miraal and naani’s confrontations were shown for a reason. It was also good to see that Miraal did not undergo an immediate personality transformation. There are plenty of dramas on air right now in which spoiled girls are shown insulting older people/relatives for no reason. I am however waiting to see how naani’s passing away is going to affect Miraal in the long run. So looking at naani’s pictures made Miraal realize that her naani was right after all. Naani’s interactions with Miraal always suggested that she wanted to bond with her granddaughter yet somehow she never showed Miraal pictures from her younger days to make her realize that she indeed was like her. This was the kind of situation that showed that although the writer had a good idea to connect these two characters but the way it was executed wasn’t exactly convincing.
I wish naani would have been shown trying harder to make Miraal realize that they had a lot in common. Just saying that she could see herself in Miraal simply wasn’t enough. Also, every time I heard her say that, I never thought that she was talking about outer appearances. And if that was included too and she had pictures to prove it then it would have made much more sense if she had sat down with her granddaughter and shared those memories. The fact that looking at her pictures was like a revelation for Miraal did not work for me at all.
Naani finally decided to tell Miraal off and the build-up leading to naani’s death was covered convincingly. It remains to be seen whether Miraal will feel guilty later on or not. Sarah Khan is performing well, it is good to see her playing a character different from the ones she usually plays.
Anaya and Miraal
I loved Anaya and Miraal’s confrontation especially because Anaya did not stand there quietly and hear Miraal shout at her. The slap was definitely uncalled for but it was because of it that we got to see Anaya’s strong personality. She tried to hit Miraal back and was not intimidated by her. Later on too she wasn’t scared of going alone to Miraal’s house and confronting her. I think Anaya’s track so far is written much more convincingly than that of Miraal. There were no confusions at all, I understood why she did not want to share these details with her parents and the reason why she wanted to go to Miraal’s house was also made clear by her. The scenes with her friends however could have been chopped down.
Miraal could not stand the fact that her brother was influenced by someone other than her. Her confrontation with Anaya showed a much more unsettling side of her personality. Even though she has always been shown as a spoiled brat but I wasn’t expecting her to slap Anaya. Basically, Miraal will do whatever it takes to have her own way! I hope as the story progresses we see other shades of her character as well because so far there is an overdose of negativity there!
Anaya’s character is more balanced. She is the good girl but at the same time she is not afraid of confronting or even hitting someone to pay them back in the same coin. There is a rage in her but unlike Miraal she uses it wisely. Anaya’s relationship with her parents is exactly what most of us want to see in Pakistani dramas. Unlike the parents in Ishqiya, these two can tell if Anaya is disturbed and do not hesitate communicating with their daughter. Mawra Hocane is performing brilliantly so far, Seemi Raheel and Muhammad Ahmed are adorable as the sweet and caring parents. Even though the dialogues are quite plain but these two make them work.
Final Remarks
Although I am enjoying watching Sabaat and looking forward to the next episode but I feel that so far the story lacks depth. I am wondering if Miraal’s fiancé will make an appearance sometime soon. He should have been shown tonight even though Miraal doesn’t seem to be interested in him anymore.
I haven’t warmed up to Hassan’s track just yet perhaps because he is supposed to be the not-so-attractive character at the moment. Anaya and Hassan’s track is also littered with clichés so far. Ameer Gilani’s performance was not up to the mark in this episode. Although the director added background score to make the Anaya/Hassan scene more impactful but it did not make up for Ameer Gilani’s blank expressions.

At the very beginning of the song, Taher Shah has taken a full credit for creating this song. The lyricist, director, composer, singer, story writer of this song is one and only Taher Shah.
Tune and Melody
It didn’t take the viewers a minute to figure out that the tune and melody of Farishta was exactly like his previous song Angel. It seems Taher Shah was still in awe of his 4 year old ‘genius creation’, that he decided he needed to refresh everyone’s mind by releasing a song with the same tune again. People are still left wondering why it took him 4 years, when all he had to do was pick up the exact same tune for his supposedly new song?

The Meaning Behind Farishta
Taher Shah has tried to sound as philosophical as he could and this was his way of sending a public service message across the country that human beings should try their best to act like angels. In this song, he spoke about how behaving like an angel was the only right thing to do. He drew a lot of comparisons between angels and flowers which definitely suggested that this was his own way of seeing angels as flowers? In some parts of the songs, he spoke about himself and declared that he was an angel too. He believes the stars that we see on the sky are a decoration done by actual angels and the human angels on earth are like flower petals?
Taher Shah seems to have been fixated with Angels and now Farishtas that he decided to use them as verb, adjective, noun, proverb and pronoun. He was adamant to use the word Farishta and he successfully achieved it but the interesting part is, he left the deciphering to his fans because he believes in them.
The Story
This time around, the fans of Taher Shah were a bit disappointed because they didn’t get to see the star gracing the video himself. Instead, Taher Shah decided to upgrade and he went for a complete animation which was just as grand as his own appearances in his previous videos. The animation started off by showing a King coming out of his castle and then riding a unicorn. The main focus was on butterflies, mushrooms, stream of water, roses, greenery, waterfall, rainbow, snow, stars – probably anything you name was included in the video. The animation showed the angelic king being in love with a fairy and there was also a mention of a lonely mermaid.
The king and the fairy live happily ever after but the viewers were once again left in a limbo because the video ended with a note reminding everyone that children are the real angels on earth? If that’s what Taher Shah was trying to convey, not sure why he decided to create an imaginary love story between a king and a fairy? Needless to say, just like both of his previous songs, this one is full of mystery and the fun fact is, he had not made anything clear to keep the viewers thinking about what he was trying to show through his song.
It can also be believed that because Taher Shah is so fond of children, he decided to make cartoons for them, hence the animation. This seems to be the only justification behind Taher Shah deciding not to be in the video. He also understands that children are staying indoors these days, therefore he wanted to entertain them. One thing is for sure, the video of Farishta will definitely draw toddler’s attention towards it due to the animations and colors – provided the parents mute the TV.
The Bloopers
The animation seems to be done by Taher Shah’s son or his nieces and nephews because one fails to believe that any grown up qualified graphic designer was hired for the kind of quality of graphics that are seen in the video. When the King rides the unicorn, his feet can be seen through the wings. The king happens to be making a statue out of snow, which ends up being Taher Shah’s logo colored in pink, which makes one wonder what he did to turn the snow pink.
The king also happens to have some more magic tricks up his sleeve where he paints the unicorn gold despite it looking perfectly fine in white. The flow of the stream is towards the left but the flower happens to be travelling straight, defying the water flow. Taher Shah seems to be an advocate of ‘fair & lovely’ because the king has been made to look super fair, exactly how Taher Shah himself wears lighter foundations in his videos. The love story between a human king and flying fairy also leaves one questioning the thought process behind such a concept. Taher Shah tried his best to create something imaginary and beautiful but the end result is anything but that.

Pakistani drama industry is blessed with the best. There are few really gifted actors who have through the years proved their credibility by choosing the projects they work in wisely. While I was shortlisting names for this list, I realized that there are also those actors who have been around for decades yet there are only a handful of dramas starring them which can actually be termed as the best. Unfortunately, many of these talented actors have also often compromised on quality. That is the reason why some of them have not exploited their potential to the maximum. Their best performances however are definitely worth watching.
This list contains the names of those actors who have been in the drama industry for a really long time. I hope that this list will give all of us a chance to talk about some old dramas which we don’t talk about often. It is also like a recommendation list for all those drama buffs who have not watched some of these dramas yet. The suggestions given by the readers will add more names to the list and will definitely give me a few new dramas to watch too.

Noman Ijaz has been part of so many amazing dramas that it is not easy to shortlist few good dramas from his long career. Therefore, I added those dramas in which he played those characters which were unforgettable. All these dramas were well-written and executed.
He is definitely the kind of actor who owns every single role he plays and never fails to impress the viewers. I wanted to add at least one drama in which he played a positive character but the fact is that he excels in playing negative roles. There are however no similarities between these roles. Here are some of my favorite dramas starring Noman Ijaz.

Faisal Qureshi is another powerful actor who has been part of some superb dramas. I must say though that even now Faisal Qureshi has a lot to give to the industry because there are so many fronts which he has not explored. Faysal Qureshi associated himself with A & B Productions for the longest time and in the process he signed some projects which were not always impressive.
It is also a fact that even if he is part of a drama which as a whole doesn’t offer much, his performance is always up to the mark. These four dramas starring Faysal Qureshi in leading roles are my favorite. I have a few recommendations from the readers which I will be watching soon.

Thankfully, he has played the leading role in quite a few dramas that were entertaining and which also showcased his great acting skills. Ahsan Khan is much more selective now therefore some of his recent performances showed his versatility as an actor.

Imran Ashraf has been part of the Pakistani drama industry for a long time but it took him a lot of time to get recognition. Dillagi was the first drama in which Imran Ashraf got the chance to show his acting prowess. In his other two dramas which are my all time favorites, Imran Ashraf played challenging characters. The fact is that Imran Ashraf can excel at playing the kind of roles that most actors would shy away from. Just like some other actors in this list, Imran Ashraf has also been part of many dramas which were anything but impressive. We are all waiting to watch him in another good drama; ever since he has been a part of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, he has failed to give a performance that doesn’t have shades of Bhola.

I still remember the first time I was completely blown away by Sami Khan’s powerful performance. It was in the drama Sabz Pari Laal Kabootar, a drama that most viewers probably haven’t seen. This was definitely one of the best performances Sami Khan gave. Sami Khan also has the ability to outshine in any role at all. He is an expert at bringing out the nuances of his characters through his performances. He has also experimented with different roles in his career. There were definitely more hits than there were misses in his entire career.

I will always remember him as the husband who deserved better in the drama serial Mere Khawab Reza Reza. Syed Jibran makes you feel for his characters; he can make you love or hate his characters effortlessly.

Imran Abbas is a brilliant actor but he definitely needs to choose his roles more wisely. Here are few of his dramas in which he did complete justice to his roles. These dramas were also entertaining and should not be missed.

Although he has not been around for as long as some of the other actors in this list but he has definitely enough quality dramas to his credit to be added to the list.

There was a time when the Pakistani dramas used to focus on a lot more subjects. However probably from the last decade, the drama writers have shifted the focus on domestic stories, where the focal point happens to be the relationship shared between a husband and a wife. The stories of Pakistani dramas resonated with the drama viewers because they showcased the realities but now, almost every other drama is based on misunderstandings caused by the miscommunication between a husband and wife.
The dramas one way or the other shape the mindset and perception of the society, therefore it is very important for the writers to not rely heavily on the miscommunication citing it as the only option that the wife had in order to protect her husband or prevent him from getting distressed. In recent dramas, the drama viewers came across some of the refreshing husband characters who were supportive of their wives and trusted them a lot, however, the writers had to bring in the element of miscommunication to make it look like the wife was doing the right thing. It helps them in prolonging the story and also showing the dire consequences which in any case could’ve been prevented only if the couple had communicated with each other. These kind of scenarios only frustrate the viewers and seem unconvincing, considering when the writers themselves have established the fact that the husbands on the other hand are very supportive and have full faith in their wives. Also, if the wives deal with their messy situations on their own perfectly, it would still make sense but to show them adding more to the mess defeats the purpose of them trying to take the charge of the situation. It only shows them incapable and makes this entire situation uncalled for.

Saira of Mai Na Janoo
Against all odds, Nain got married to Saira and even before his marriage to her, he knew that their cousin Nihaad was very much in love with her. Saira was also involved with Nihaad but seeing the opposition from the entire family she decided to accept Nain’s proposal. Nain was a breath of fresh air because he was a supportive husband who told his wife Saira every step of the way that he was there for her and he would go to any extent to make her feel secure. Nain believed in Saira more than she did in herself. He wanted her to complete her education, he also forced her to learn driving so that she could be independent and stand on her feet. Nain was an ideal husband who despite knowing everything that Saira was accused of, stood by her side. It was good to see a husband like Nain who repeatedly reminded his wife that she could share anything with him to put her heart to ease.
Saira ended up being the worst wife that a husband like Nain deserved. In the middle of the drama, the writer did show that Saira decided to share everything with Nain about how Nihaad was harassing and mentally torturing her. Without even questioning or doubting Saira, Nain took action against Nihaad but then the miscommunication won and the viewers got to see Saira keeping secrets from her husband. In her defense, Saira stated that she only kept everything from Nain because she feared Nihad would harm him but all these justifications looked very unconvincing especially when the writer had established the fact that Nain was always there for his wife. To reinforce Saira’s helplessness, the writer showed her celebrating her birthday at the beachfront past midnight arranged by her cousin Nihaad. This was Saira’s way of dealing with him – doing everything that he said while being married to Nain. Saira also took car rides with him where Nihaad would pick and drop her to the university. Not only that, Saira also served Nihaad tea every time he showed up randomly at her husband’s place at 2AM in the morning. In the end, Saira was the one who was shown as a bechari and the viewers were left scratching their heads as to how a liar ended up being the victim in this entire situation? The fact remains; Saira gave an edge to Nihaad, that is why he had the audacity to blackmail her!
Humera of Ye Dil Mera
Humera is married to Obaidullah, who can not complete his sentence without reminding her that she happens to be his Jaan. Humera Jaan is faced with one of the biggest challenges of her life, where she has come in contact with her college fellow Meer Farooq Zaman, who was in love with her and proposed to her back then. Humera rejected Meer Farooq and chose Obaidullah over him because she saw him as a nice human being. Humera and Obaidullah had a perfect life, no communication barrier, they could talk about each and everything because Obaidullah was a very supportive and doting husband whose entire life revolved around his family. Humera and Obaidullah had 2 children; Amaan who was probably 7-8 years old and Ayesha who was around 2 years old.
Meer Farooq met Humera after years and he couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that she chose a simpleton like Obaidullah over him. Meer Farooq proposed to her again and not only that, in Obaidullah’s absence, he even barged into her home and tried to physically violate her. Humera’s son Amaanullah was also a witness to this entire incident BUT, out of nowhere, Humera not only decided to keep it a secret from her husband, but also told her son that he should never talk about what he saw that night? This entire aspect happens to be very unconvincing because Obaidullah was shown to be such a husband who would not only hear his wife out but would also do what she wanted him to do. Humera could see danger looming, but she chose not to discuss anything with Obaidullah who she saw as her support system. This is one thing which the viewers are unable to accept because they really can not understand Humera’s reasons. If Obaidullah was not shown as such a perfect and understanding husband, her hesitation would have been justified but that is not the case in Ye Dil Mera.
Gohar of Ishq Zahe Naseeb
Gohar got married to Sameer and even before their marriage, Sameer laid foundations of their relationships in such a manner where he showed Gohar what she meant to him. Sameer helped her over and over again and went out of the way to make sure that she was at her utmost comfort. Sameer knew about her engagement to her cousin Jahangir and helped her pay the hospital bills when he attempted to throw acid at her. Gohar also fell in love with Sameer and even before they got married, Sameer told that the only thing he could and would not tolerate would be Gohar lying to him.
Ishq Zahe Naseeb’s story was complicated and it wasn’t as simple but it was shown that Gohar knew Sameer better than anybody else. She also understood him better and knew what was right and wrong while dealing with him, yet she chose to keep her and Kashif’s story hidden from him, to the point where her cousin Jahangir started blackmailing her and she chose to rely on Kashif more than she did on her husband Sameer. Despite putting restrictions on her, Sameer still gave Gohar the edge to do what she wanted to, she was free to make her own decisions and do what she deemed right, still Gogo Pan Masala wanted to act fishy, causing a dent in their relationship, despite knowing that Sameer was emotionally vulnerable and had psychological issues. Gohar never actually gave Sameer the satisfaction of feeling empowered with her trust in him because this is what he longed for the most. If Gohar had allowed Sameer to take the front seat and deal with Jahangir even with Kashif being in the picture, it would have strengthened their relationship because Sameer was a grown up who could accept the fact that Gohar loved someone else in the past.
Seher of Thora Sa Haq
She happens to be another gone case from the dramas that are on air right now. Seher and Zamin’s relationship has been tested a lot and she has seen that Zamin has stood firm on his ground where he doesn’t want to part ways with her. It won’t be wrong to say that Seher and Zamin have been through a lot where everyone tried to drift them apart. Seher also saw Zamin getting beaten up and after taking care of him, they only grew closer. Zamin has now started taking charge of the situation because he has Seher by his side, he wants to do right by her and is trying to maintain a healthy balance by being just towards his two wives.
Seher has seen how Rafay never had good intentions, he tried to barge into her room past midnight. He proposed to her and when she refused, he continued to pester her. Now when Seher has moved in with Zamin, loser Rafay knocks on her door and tells her that Zamin’s life is in danger, however if she wants to protect her husband, she should stay in touch with Rafay BUT not tell anything to her husband about it? How ingenious is that? What’s interesting is that Seher, who herself has witnessed how Rafay never wished well for her or Zamin, is now choosing to trust him more than her husband? Even when Zamin asked Seher if anyone came to their place, she chose to tell a lie. When Rafay called her in the presence of Zamin, she made some lame excuses. Seher is turning out to be a dimwit to not only believe Rafay, but also not telling the one whose life is supposedly in danger that he should be extra careful when he is out and about. Seher did try to connect the dots about how Rafay knew that Zamin was admitted to the hospital but because she was too busy creating a meal plan for her husband that she didn’t bother paying heed to such a big clue!
Gaitiara of Deewar e Shab
Gaitiara got married to Salar. Salar knew in and out of Gaitiara’s lifestyle, where she came from and the entire history of her family. Salar knew that Gaitiara was a granddaughter of a singer, her mother worked as an extra in movies to support her daughters and the entire family, her sister was just stepping in the film industry and her cousin was a famous dancer who charged money for dancing in private parties.
Salar’s step-mother’s third husband Nabeel decided to arrange a private party where he wanted to invite Gaitiara’s sister Sandal to dance in front of his circle of friends, only to put Salar down. Nabeel also used this scenario to blackmail Gaiti and threatened her of losing all of her respect in front of Salar’s circle of friends and relatives. However, Gaitiara decided to not tell Salar anything about what Nabeel was trying to do, rather she decided to convince Salar to take back the case he had filed against Nabeel, because she was scared of everything that Nabeel had threatened her of. Gaitiara saw how influential and powerful Salar was, how he was a man of his words and despite being MIA, he came back and rescued her from getting married to overaged Behzaad, still she chose not to put her trust and faith in her supportive husband and continued to beat around the bush. If Nabeel hadn’t died in the last episode, Gaitiara would still be scared and panting loudly hiding behind the closed door of her room!
So, these are those intelligent wives, who despite having supportive husbands chose not to share the reality with them and decided to keep them in the dark. These kind of scenarios would at least make sense if the writers show the female characters taking care of these messy situations like a trooper but they end up spoiling everything, even let their mistakes cost them the trust of their husbands and in the end, cry as if they are the biggest victims to have ever walked the face of the earth.
