Naveen And Azfar Talk About Their Married Life For The First Time

0

Naveen Waqar and Azfar Ali’s marriage was nothing short of a shock for people because of many reasons. Firstly because Azfar Ali left his wife of so many years to get married to Naveen Waqar. Secondly because Naveen had gained immense popularity due to Hamsafar in which she played a negative role of a girl who wrecked someone’s house. Also because no one knew about their affair before they broke the news of their marriage. Many people called Naveen a real life Sara. Most people were not happy with the wedding at all. Naveen and Azfar felt the backlash therefore they decided to go into hiding. They have finally decided to come out of hiding, they are giving interviews and are also playing the lead in the upcoming sitcom Uff Meri Family. Naveen and Azfar are promoting the show to the max.

Untitled

While giving interview to a local newspaper Naveen said, “Had it not been for Humsafar, my marriage wouldn’t have been such an issue.” Azfar on the other hand says that it is their business how they tackle with the complications resulting from their marriage. He said, “I can’t even call it right because there is a second woman and my daughter involved in it. I don’t want to explain to people how great I am with my daughter and how often I interact with Salma. That’s simply our headache.”

Untitled3

He also thinks that people make right things look like they are wrong. He thinks he did nothing wrong by getting married to Naveen but people make it look that way. According to Azfar, “The beauty of it all is that having done the right thing makes you a wrong person or to make it clearer, having done something legal makes you immoral.”

Azfar feels that his fans have disappointed him. He remarked during the interview, “A fan is someone who stands by you through thick and thin, and shows support irrespective of the decision that you are making in life. And by that logic, I don’t think that I had any fans.”

Untitled4

Naveen admits that it wasn’t easy being married to someone who already had a daughter. She said, “To be very honest, I was very scared before getting into this and didn’t know how Fatima (Azfar’s daughter) was going to react to it……I am building a relationship with Fati (Fatima) and by the grace of God, she has warmed up to me. Whenever she comes over, we hang out, watch movies and chill out.”

Azfar also said that Salma (his ex wife) had been very supportive, “If she wanted, she could have created a furor, but I am glad she understood and made things easier for both of us.”

They Both Appeared on Morning Show on HumTv. You can watch it on DramasOnline.com

Shukk Episode 28 – It Is Finally Over!!

0

I am so glad that Shukk is finally over! Right till the last minute Saniya was still threatening Ehtesham that she was going to leave for Australia, so nothing new there. Sehrish acted like she needed some serious counseling! This episode was like many of the previous episodes except for the ending of course. Like I said, the purpose of the last few episodes solely was to convince the viewers that Shaam and Saniya were meant to be together and the ending proved me right. The play could have ended on this note weeks back too and had it ended at a proper time there would have been many viewers who would have been happy with the ending because many people were rooting for Saniya.

s2

The child playing Roomi is extremely talented but I must say that there were a lot of times when Roomi was being “used” excessively to take the story forward in a very unconvincing manner. Where would Shaam and Saniya be without this little boy! I am dead sure that Saniya’s conversations with her mother were only included in this episode because people were complaining earlier that Saniya never discussed anything with her mother. It actually seemed odd to see her mother being so concerned about her because we have hardly seen her in all the previous episodes.

s4

The moral of the drama was that if you suspect someone you love, your relationship with that person is ruined forever. It was a lesson that was spoon-fed to us repetitively until the viewers completely lost interest. There was a time when we really cared about what happened in these characters’ lives but later on when the characters took an about turn and lost all their personality almost all of Shukk’s fans lost interest in what was going to happen next and tuned in every week out of sheer curiosity.

s3

In my opinion the story started going downhill when Shaam and Saniya got married. Their sudden marriage made absolutely no sense and everything that happened after that was equally illogical. I still think that two wrongs do not make a right and I think the only person who deserved to be punished was Ehtesham.

Team Shukk did a commendable job of giving everyone an unforgettable lesson in “How To Ruin A Perfectly Good Play In A Few Weeks!”. Shukk had the potential to be the top play of this year but now it will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Shukk had all the ingredients of a flawless play to begin with; a power packed screen play, flawless direction and top notch acting but it didn’t last. The acting and direction stayed superb right till the end and the production values were superb too but all of that is no good if the play doesn’t have a story to stand on;) I think this particular screen shot deserves to be framed!

s1

I feel indebted to those readers who read the reviews right till the end even though some of them were not even following the play. So, how do you plan to celebrate Shukk’s ending? Do share your thoughts about this last episode.

Bashir Ahmed, famous singer, musician passed away in Dhaka

Eminent artist Bashir Ahmed passed away in Dhaka last week due to cancer. Bashir Ahmed was a singer, musician and lyricist of Pakistan and Bangladesh.  In the decade of 60’s Bashir Ahmed was a popular name in playback singing for films mainly made in Dhaka. Sometimes termed as Ahmed Rushdi of East Pakistan, Bashir Ahmed gave many immortal songs. His most famous film was Darshan in 1967, in which he worked as singer, lyricist and musician.

Bashir Ahmed was born in Kolkata, West Bengal and migrated to East Pakistan (Bangladesh) in 1960’s. In Dhaka, he worked as a singer and later musician/lyricist in Urdu and Bengali films. When East Pakistan became Bangladesh in 1971, Bashir Ahmed remained in Dhaka and continued his work there.

Pakistan Idol Week 21 – Semi Final!

0

Finally the most awaited episode is here. I must say the way they have complied all those short VT’s & some amazing performances in the presence of some great guest judges was amazing. No other way to wrap the season with perfection.

Tina Sani was graceful unlike her certain age-fellow who was OTT as always. Tina Sani’s presence was gracious & the way she dedicated her song ‘Bahar Aai’ to the contestants with her gestures was beautiful. She is a senior artist & she acted like one. Sajjad Ali is Sajjad Ali & his unplugged version of ‘Tumhe Pyaar Mujhse Nahi Hai’ was a treat to listen to. He is just so humble & down to earth that even after performing brilliantly he was conscious whether the audience’d like his performance or not. After Ali Azmat Sajjad Ali is the only one who has acknowleged the band & their contribution to the show. It was a perfect episode with some fantastic performances.

The contestants had to perform a medley first & then a solo song. Shoaib’s explaination for the song selection for the medley was that he wanted to show his serious side to the audience followed by something lively to make his performance memorable. Zamad’s justification for choosing folk songs for his medley was that he wanted to show the younger generation that folk songs can be experimented with & he wanted to bring them back in the limelight.

The commentary on the performances is as follows:

Mohammad Shoaib (MS) of Peshawar performed NFAK’s ‘Sun Charkhay Di Mitthi Kook’ & Mika Singh’s ‘Sawan Mai Lag Gai Aag’ as a medley. He sang the very first song soulfully & the second one with the exact feel that was the crux of the song. Hadiqa Kiyani said she loved his performance & commented on the energy he carried. She said the first song was difficult & the second one had him doing his signature actions & in totality she loved both the songs. Ali Azmat said it was an enjoyable performance & he loved how Shoaib chose two different genres & performed them together. Tina Sani again was impressed how he performed two different genres together where she felt in one performance he had that substance that was needed whereas the other one was energy-packed. Bushra Ansari commented that she was really happy with Shoaib’s performance & appreciated his take on the sargam this time but she felt that the first song should’ve been a bit more slow for her to enjoy the real emotion behind but she said the second one was flawless. Sajjad Ali said that the first song had a composition of his own & Shoaib’s improvisation was good when he did it once but the way he kept on doing it again & again, it made it look like the improvisation was the actual composition which was not but other than that he sang it really nice. He said that the second song didn’t give away much of his singing skills but it showed the energy & the audience response to it which was amazing.

Zamad Baig (ZB) of Mandi Bahauddin performed Saein Akhtar’s ‘Tere Ishq Nachaya’ & Allan Faqeer’s ‘Tere Ishq Mein Jo Doob Gaya as a medley. I personally liked the second song much better because he changed the feel of the first song & was running out of breath as well. Ali Azmat said that he has proved himself by his hard work & said that as usual both the songs suited his vocal tone. Sajjad Ali said that more or less both the songs belonged to the same genre & said that he can sing different sort of songs as well & by saying this he very subtly mentioned that Zamad needs to experiment & explore other genres as well. Tina Sani mentioned the same thing that both the songs belonged to the same genre but said that he has a powerful & soulful voice. Bushra Ansari said that she enjoyed but mentioned a technical issue his performance had. She spoke about the breathing issues Zamad had through out his performance & again said that he needs to choose songs from the other genres too. Hadiqa Kiyani said that she felt the breathing issue as well & 2nd song had a weak beginning but overall commented on the uniqueness of his voice.

Mohammad Shoaib (MS) of Peshawar performed Sukhwinder Singh’s ‘Lai Vi Na Gai’ as a solo song. It was truly a soulful performance & I was expecting a standing ovation from either of the judges but again this one being a slow song gave a margin to the judges for nitpicking. Sajjad Ali said he sang it like a professional singer & once again commented on the improvisation but he said he did justice to the song. Tina Sani disagreed with Sajjad Ali & said that if a singer is confident & comfortable about a certain change that he makes in the song than it’s perfectly fine & she like his performance. Bushra Ansari felt some issue with his notes. Hadiqa Kiyani agreed with Bushra Ansari & felt that his notes were weak certain times but other than that she also commented that Shoaib did justice to the song 95% & also stated that the actual singer in one-take wouldn’t be able to perform it this well too. Ali Azmat appreciated his song selection & he said Shoaib has impressed him a lot but this time the projection of the lower notes was weak but otherwise he liked his performance.

Zamad Baig (ZB) of Mandi Bahauddin performed NFAK’s ‘Allah Hu’ as a solo song. It was the strongest performance of Zamad in this round. Ali Azmat said that he sang it well & the stages of lower & higher notes in this songs were attempted beautifully but he felt that he was a bit forceful in some of the notes. Tina Sani said it was a very powerful performance but she told both the contestants about how they can control the breathing because she felt Zamad fell short of it by the end of his performance. Bushra Ansari commented that once again Zamad sang a song of the genre which he is comfortable with & felt that he had breathing issues in this performance as well. Hadiqa Kiyani said this is a beautiful Sufi melody & his performance had the feel of it perfect. Sajjad Ali said that this song suited his vocal tone & no doubt he sings this genre really well.

So this was it from the whole episode. Once again we all got to see who is a versatile singer & who isn’t. This time around even the judges including the guest judge Sajjad Ali spoke about Zamad’s song selection & the only genre he performs. I think Zamad had this last chance to hit the nail in the coffin but he didn’t avail the opportunity well. No doubt he sang his bits well but still I think he should’ve shown what he is capable of. In Zamad’s comparison I feel Shoaib stole the show because of his versatility.

I loved the funny bits they shared with us starting from the auditions of the finalists & then the commenting techniques of the judges. Ali Azmat’s VT was really funny & I am glad they didn’t ignore Hadiqa’s controversial hairstyles that have always remained under discussions. It was a humorous & enjoyable episode.

I loved Shoaib’s vote appeal where he clearly said that he is a Pakistani & not a Pathan, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi. This is what we needed to hear because people have been categorizing Pakistan Idol as Sindh Idol, Punjab Idol or Pakhtun Idol, which certainly it isn’t. We need to appreciate our talent because by the end of the day they are representing us & our country. So, this is it, now we all are awating the final results. Let’s wait for the best that’s yet to come!!!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Déjà vu explained!

There’s a movie I watched as a child and it petrified me- it’s funny since it wasn’t even a horror movie. Far from it really, it fell into the category of comedy! But what scared me out of my wits was seeing how this guy gets stuck with the same day over and over again. I get bored very easily so for me, that would certainly be nothing less than a death sentence. Ever notice how our actors have played the same role over and over again? They might be great at it, no complaints there but come on! Do they not read the script before signing up? Or are they simply content being typecast. Whatever the case may be, they are the ones responsible for making us second-guess ourselves!

Here’s a list of some actors who have appeared in similar roles:

Step dad– Our hamdard dawakhana, Adeel Hussain has been raising children that are not his own for quite some time… It began with Mera Naseeb, then there was Mora Piya, Jiya Nahin Jaye, Shukk, Mohabbat Subh Ka Sitaara Hai… Fatherhood comes naturally to him- I just wish he could enjoy time with his own children!

ah

The uninterested (read infidel) lord and master– While this title is one that many actors are competing for, Meekal Zulfiqar is the undisputed winner. From Pani Jaisa Pyar to Shehr-e-Zaat, to Mirat-ul-Uroos to Izteraab, this guy has serious commitment issues.

mz

Dubai Chalo– Agha Ali is keen to leave his mark as the forever frustrated middle class guy who wants to go abroad and earn bags of money. Since obviously, everyone who works outside of Pakistan is a millionaire, duh! It began with Halki Si Khalish, then came Shab-e-Zindagi and I’m seeing hints of it in Bay Emaan Mohabbat too.

aaa

Chillao Mat! Danish Taimoor has potential- he’s good looking and a competent actor. My issue with him- his high pitched screams! His dialogues are painfully loud to the point where he becomes unbearable. I liked him best in Rehaii. But in Saari Bhool Hamari Thi, Sannata, and Maang, he’s causing serious damage to my ear drums.

dt

Roti Shakal (Male)– Ahsan Khan can give any actress stiff competition. But there’s a reason for that- this man can cry! Neeyat, Na Kaho Tum Mere Nahin, Mujhe Khuda Pe Yakeen Hai, Khoya Khoya Chaand, Kabhi Kabhi… The list is endless.

ak

The sacrificial lamb– Momal Sheikh undoubtedly is way ahead of her game. Kismat ki maari, Momal bechaari has vowed to put others ahead of herself- NO MATTER WHAT!!! She began with Mujhe Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai, then continued in Kadurat and recently she gave up her son for her husband’s lover in Zaara aur Mehrunnisa.

ms

Beware! Husband/ boyfriend snatcher on the loose– Sania Shamshad is after every man she cannot get. Eversince Aseer Zadi, she’s been on a rampage with Mein Deewani and Izteraab. Seems like she enjoys the chase!

ss

Roti Shakal (Female)– For me, it has to be Sohai Ali Abro. Such a pretty girl but all she gets to do is cry her eyes out. Tanhai, Khoya Khoya Chaand, Rishtey Kuch Adhooray Se and she’s killing it in Bhabi.

sab

If I were a boy… Maya Ali is hands down a tomboy and what’s worse- she is proud of it! From Aunn Zara, to Khoya Khoya Chaand, to Ranjish Hi Sahi– she has ensured she remains constant with her Mein Tumhara Moun Torh Doun Gein.

maa

Dukhyaari Bibi– Ayeza Khan is one of the prettiest faces on television and it’s really sad to see her waste away- Kaala Jadu, Mera Saeein 2, Zard Mausam, Mi Raqsam, and the ultimate tragedy, Adhoori Aurat.

Ayeza_Khan_Mi_raqsam_geotv_24

So these were some of the names I came up with. Are there any more that you can add to the list?

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hai – Episode 20

0

The troubles in Romaissa’s life are never-ending; her daughter is confined to her room in the house which is actually hers and her own status is worse than that of the maids of the house. I was really looking forward to the scene in which Romaissa will finally react to the way she is being treated. The build up was very well done; Hamnah’s plan to take over Nabeel’s room, the way Maham was being neglected, Zeeshan’s attitude, Hassan’s sickening behavior and how it effected Romaissa but the final scene in which she hits Walid’s son was actually not as impactful as I expected it to be. The reaction from Walid’s wife was not what I had expected; I expected much worse of course and Zeeshan is disappointing me over and over again with his attitude.

m1

I have no idea where the story is going and what is the central idea of the play. People have been saying that the central idea is that a person should fight for their rights because if they don’t then people treat them like a doormat – honestly speaking I don’t find this concept appealing at all or at least the way it is being presented on screen is not interesting enough! It would have been far better if the drama was moving towards a resolution at this point and we could have seen Zeeshan and Romaissa getting closer to each other. Also, lets not forget that Romaissa and Zeeshan both don’t know that Romaissa’s is the rightful owner of the house and everything else that belonged to Nabeel. I was hoping that Romaissa will change for the better but that does not seem to be happening.

m2

The writer has given me a million reasons to feel for Romaissa but watching her suffer right from episode 1 has had more of a numbing effect than anything else! The fact that she doesn’t do anything to change the situation she is in is actually going against her character. Zeeshan is making one impulsive/foolish decision after the other. I am wondering if he will be a changed person once he is well enough to rethink things.

m4

Even though I don’t feel for Romaissa’s character much mainly due to the characterization but I have to say that Sanam Jung has been brilliant especially in the past few episodes. Her character doesn’t have much to offer but she has tried her best to make the viewers connect to Romaissa. The dialogue “Wo bholei ga tu yaad aye ga na” has been done to death, it should be replaced with something else which is somewhat new. When Bushra asked Romaissa if she missed Nabeel, I knew exactly what she was going to say!

m3

The scene in which Romaissa is going through her trunk and she says “Mujhe pata nahi tha kabhi is sandooq mein akathi ki jane wali cheezon mein aik cheez tum bhi ho gay!” was very touching. Hassan deserves to be shot! It is about time that he paid for the way he has been harassing Romaissa. It made my blood boil when I saw Hamnah and Hassan happy. Nabeel’s family has been getting away with everything till now; I wonder how Romaissa is going to react once she finds out the truth. I really hope the play doesn’t end with Romaissa forgiving all of them.

m5

The preview of the next episode showed Romaissa being called manhoos all over again. Can things get any worse for her? I think not!

Do share your thoughts about this latest installment.

Pehchaan- Episode 2

pehchAAN

I cannot help but appreciate the technical virtuosity with which the narrative flows. The story may not be unique, but the impact is enthralling. Last week, Kuku slashed her wrist- this week we find out it was more an attention gimmick than an attempt at suicide. Mansoor, who seems to be ceremoniously going about with his wedding shenanigans, left the scene upon hearing of the suicide incident. I was surprized to find that Mansoor and Kuku have an unspoken agreement of sorts- Mansoor’s wedding is not indicative of the end of their affair. Zara jaldi mein houn lekin jaldi aaoun ga…

Some flashbacks revealed that Kuku and Mansoor were very vocal about their independence. It remains to be seen why Mansoor agreed to the wedding- especially since he has strong feelings for Kuku. For an independent women, Kuku’s choices in men are questionable. Why does she continue to be in relationships that cause her nothing but emotional turmoil? Is she addicted to pain? Kuku’s manual dexterity made me wonder- does she suffer from some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder or is she simply trying to avoid the growing conflict within?

pechaan

A quick visit by Mrs Khan startles her- Mrs Khan and Kuku have developed a camaraderie despite their age difference. Mrs Khan isn’t a busybody but she does seem concerned. Hamari zindagi bhi kitni qeemti aur khoobsurat hai lekin hum uska khayal nahin rakhtey. Maybe Kuku’s salon provides her with the escape she needs which is why she inadvertently feels connected to her. Kuku’s good-for-nothing husband shows up at her doorstep holding a bouquet hoping to win her back. His true intent, however was getting access to her money. She tries to strike a deal with him but even though she wants to break free, she doesn’t seem very stern. Is he her back-up plan? Or was Mansoor?

I adored Laila’s (Alishba Yusuf) entry. The photo session was nicely done and seemed very realistic. Mansoor’s restlessness was evident with his constant fidgeting; Kuku’s absent-mindedness was conveyed brilliantly all the while her husband was sharing his elaborate business plans. As a bride, Laila looked like an ethereal beauty- her eyes spoke a thousand words. Mansoor’s expression upon seeing his bride for the very first time was confusing- was he surprized at his mother’s taste or was he happy? Bahu tumhari tarhan hi pasand ki hai. However, any romantic fantasies Laila might have had disappeared in the very next instant- kafi khel liye ye shaadi shaadi... This was certainly not the start any woman would have hoped for!

Launch Of Zeniya Lawn By Deepak Perwani – Pictures

Izteraab – Episode 04!

0

Wallahi, this Jazib guy needs to be imprisoned. I am glad that the episode ended at a funny note & I had a fair share of laughter. Jazib found so much peace & relaxation that he even forgot he had an office to attend & the kids had to go to the school.

I really don’t get why Jazib hurried into the decision of marrying Dua? Why didn’t he prepare his kids for it or why didn’t he pep-talk them into it? It’s like he was actually waiting for Zara to leave so that he can fill in the blank ASAP. I really didn’t even get Khala Masooma’s phulla hua muh? She kept on haunting Dua for how she wronged Zara but was she actually THIS hopeless that she couldn’t prevent this from happening? She couldn’t stop Dua from replacing Zara? She couldn’t stop her only daughter to make such a huge mistake? All her dialogues were repetitive & her frowning face was annoying. I mean if she actually & really regretted what happened & knew all the consequences before-hand, why didn’t she retaliate at all? It’s like she gave her a permission & had a celebratory party within her heart seeing her daughter conquer a rich handsome guy.

I must say the child artists have performed their roles so well & the girl playing the role of Sophia actually portrayed what children in these sorts of situations go through, really well. I still couldn’t help but feel for Zara because she never lagged in her responsibilities & was a really good mother despite being hands full.

I must say I laughed a lot at Jazib, his excuses & his justifications. He goes around saying ‘mujhe Dua jaisi biwi ki hi zaroorat thi’ ‘ye ghar Dua jaisi larki ka hi muntazir tha’. The spark on his face when Dua mentions that she’s going to make breakfast with her own precious hands was worth a watch. It’s like Dua was a hasil of his life & now his life is complete. I was like ‘yeah right’ when Jazib told Khala Masooma that Zara was never the girl he wanted as his wife & whatever he said at the dinner table back then was nothing but a truth. Jazib’s question that ‘Khuda janay is mai kya maslehat thi’ was asked masoomiyat-ly too. Does he really don’t know the answer? Maslehat ye thi k Jazib ko itne garam parathay milain k wo obese ho jaye. I am not sure if this will happen but I do want Jazib to regret his decision & understand the importance of Zara – a headstrong girl in his life who knew how to lead a family & not be someone who is submissive to a point where she herself doesn’t know what she needs to do.

The ending scene where Jazib & Dua fail to wake up was actually really funny. Jazib’s messed up hair made things a bit more humorously real & how easily he told Dua that next time the kids should never be late for their school & she goes like ‘jee’. I mean is he even worth being a father when he keeps tossing his part of the work on his wives? Whatever he said to the kids about Zara was ridiculous. It’s like he is keeping them in a dark & telling them a bunch of lies that Zara left with her own choice & she doesn’t want to reconcile? Did he even try & why didn’t he tell his kids that he is a wuss who got swayed at the sight of garam garam parathas that he decided to throw his marriage out of the window & didn’t even take a split second to think about his family & moved on selfishly.

The ending scene of Khala Masooma was absolutely ridiculous where she tried to make Dua guilty again. I mean what does she want now & does she really think that all her wisdom talk will undo the chaos in Zara’s life? It was Khala Masooma who was worried about her daughter Dua & now all of a sudden, out of a blue moon she is feeling for Zara like she’s unable to breathe? I am glad that Sophia is giving Dua a hard time & Zara is not at all compromising on the things related to her kids because she left them at Dua’s mercy because Jazib assured that Dua can be a better mother, now it’s time for Dua to prove herself. Let’s see what happens next!

Koi Nahi Apna – Episode 3

0

This was a very fast paced episode which made me wonder if the writer intends to wrap the play up in 5 episodes! If the play continues to move ahead with the same pace then I have no issues at all but if the story doesn’t have enough to offer then there is enough room to take it easy at the moment. Hamza and Alvira got married in tonight’s episode, six months passed in a jiffy, Alvira is pregnant and the problems between Alvira and her mother in law do not escalate much. Alvira’s parents do not get in touch with her at all and Alvira doesn’t attempt to make one phone call even.

kna1

I must say that there were many things about this episode which seemed very unrealistic. First of all in this day and age everyone has a UPS if not a generator. Secondly, the way Hamza handled the problems his mother had with Alvira was very unconvincing . How can you not take these things seriously when you are living in the same house! Such issues are very serious and you cannot brush them under the carpet just like that! Alvira also put up with all that her saas had to say with a smile – yes she complained every now and then but her overall approach towards her mother in law’s attitude was actually very unbelievable. I wish that more girls can be like that but seriously is it really possible? The fact that Alvira’s mother never tried to get in touch with her and Alvira did not even call her parents was also very unbelievable for me.

kna2

I am all for a fast narrative but I felt like I couldn’t enjoy every moment in the newly weds life the way I would have wanted to. The marriage ceremony wasn’t shown properly either. We didn’t see Alvira and Hamza outside of the house even once because of which I felt like there was no novelty in the scenes. Almost all the scenes were shot in the house, I actually felt suffocated watching Alvira spend her entire married life till now in that house! I would have liked to see Alvira and Hamza together on the bike and in restaurants maybe! I felt like we were being rushed into the future without being given a chance to know the dynamics between Hamza and Alvira’s relationship better. Yes, everything seemed too good to be true. I must sound like a sadist who wants to see the characters in the play having never-ending issues with each other but I think a balance should have been maintained to make the happenings more relatable.

kna8

I liked the way Hamza’s mother turned to green cardamom to calm her nerves, that was brand new! Some of the scenes between Hamza and his mother were really well done. i felt for Hamza at times because he was trying so hard to keep his wife and mother happy at the same time. There were other times when i felt like Hamza and Alvira were living in a vacuum. The good thing about this play is that it is not overcrowded with characters but unlike the last two episodes I found it a bit hard to connect to Hamza and Alvira’s relationship because of the fast paced narrative.

Drama of The Week – Mera Naseeb!

0

Mera Naseeb, a writing of Samira Fazal, direction of Adnan Ahmed & production of Momina Duraid for Hum Tv. Aired in the year 2011 with a total of 21 episodes.

If we put it in simple words Mera Naseeb was a story of imperfect but strong headed females who met the weakest men in their lives but just because they had so much conviction, the ladies compelled those weak men to rectify their mistakes & reflect on where they were wrong. I liked this drama a lot because of those few strong female characters which reflected the light on the women power. By far, Mera Naseeb has been the only women-centric drama that has done justice to the courage women carry within themselves & a special mention goes to the writer for etching out all these relate-able yet imperfect characters to perfection.

Mera Naseeb was a star-studded drama & the list of the actors & characters is as follows:

Syra Yousuf as Nazia
Sanam Saeed as Shazia
Imran Abbas as Moeez
Adeel Hussain as Shehbaz
Imran Aslam as Fahad
Ayesha Gul as Rafia & Shehbaz’s sister
Rubina Ashraf as Sajida & Shazia’s mother
Samina Peerzada as Salima & Nazia’s mother
Sakina Samo as Habiba
Bushra Ansari as Saba & Fahad’s mother
Sajjid Hassan as Moeez’s father
Sabahat Bukhari as Zahida & Moeez’s mother
Rehan Sheikh as Azeem
Ali Afzal as Firasat

1

Mera Naseeb:

Story of two sisters Shazia & Nazia who were born at the same day but remain oblivious to the fact that they are actually biological sisters. The moment they were born a fortune teller predicts that Nazia will always have a negative effect on Shazia’s life. Being brought up in a strict orthodox family where they were allowed to attend the college clad in a Naqaab & Abaya, Nazia accepts this way of living but Shazia always retaliates. One fine day on their adventure spree they come across Shehbaz who falls in love with Nazia. Somehow both Nazia & Shazia get exposed & Nazia is forced into marrying Fahad straight away. At first Nazia does plan to elope with Shehbaz but when her Pupho Habiba tells her the reality of her mother’s relation to Shazia’s father, she changes her mind & also she takes it as her responsibility to pay back what Sajida & Shazia have done for them all their life. At that particular moment Nazia decides she can’t think selfishly & can not become the reason for her family’s embarrassment.

3

Their real ordeal begins when they step in their practical lives where Nazia meets a very strict mother in law & a mama’s boy as her husband who does fall in love with his wife & proves to be a very understanding partner but is always keen about his mother’s wishes to a blinding point. Shazia on the other hand gets married to a seemingly perfect guy to later find out that he has lead a disturbed life because of his parent’s abusive relationship. At first Moeez promises Shazia all the happiness but later when things begin to go wrong he unconsciously becomes a replica of his father where he hits his wife & loses a track of his life like falling for Nazia, blackmailing her, drinking & ignoring all his responsibilities forcing Shazia to become the bread winner for herself & her husband.

Nazia’s marital life hits a rocky track when she finds out she is expecting a baby girl where her mother in law demands a baby boy. Unable to cope up with the pressure, Fahad commits suicide & Shehbaz who never had let Nazia slide off his mind proposes her straight away. Alongside, Shazia’s life starts shaping up where Moeez realizes his mistakes & takes control of his life especially after he finds out that they are expecting their first child. In the end they all meet happy times after coming out of the miseries of life with their heads held high.

Brilliance of Mera Naseeb:

First of all I commend the director for such a flawless direction where he not only did justice to the script but brought out the best in all the actors. It was the first time when I saw the performances of Syra Yousaf, Sanam Saeed, Adeel Hussain & Imran Aslam & I was amazed at their acting skills. I must say this has to be one of the best performances of their respective careers till date.

Even though the story revolved around the domestic issues, the execution made it worth a watch. They touched all the issues that women may face in their lives but that too very tactfully without making it boring for even a second & without overdoing any bit. I liked Mera Naseeb for a lot of things like how women on their own can lead a life with each other’s support. How a girl like Shazia who always got scolded for her impatience understood the delicacy of her difficult life & concealed it gracefully. Just because Shazia had faith in herself, she chose to get married to the person she knew didn’t love her. She tolerated everything with the hope that everything will turn out to be in her favor & the faith that she had in her husband more than he had in himself was absolutely brilliant. Shazia’s character as a wife showed how much patience, compromise & sacrifice it takes to make a marriage work. Those were some really nice moments when Sajida after finding out about the abuse Shazia has to go through asks her about Moeez but she chooses not to complain about her private life even to her mother.

2

I also liked the emotions of trust they showed in Nazia & Fahad’s relation where girls may easily forget everything that may have happened in the past but Nazia’s dialogue while showing Shehbaz’s letter to Fahad saying ‘mai appse chuppa nahi saki’ went to show the level of love & respect she had for her husband & backed it by literal honesty where she didn’t believe in keeping secrets. Plus the way Fahad accepts her past & just asks her to assure him of never leaving his side was heart-warming.

Another very important aspect that they touched subtly in this drama was about the outer appearance. Nazia who always got praised for her beauty had a pretty hard luck whereas Shazia despite having average looks & a turbulent beginning of her marriage didn’t go through the level of pain that Nazia had to face in her life. The belief in the predictions was crushed very decently that no one is capable to run or ruin anyone else’s life. Everything happens the way it is meant to be & everyone meets the destiny that’s destined for them to be. The arrogance of Moeez’s father & Fahad’s mother was put forth brilliantly because later they realize their mistakes & it went to show that no matter if you end up realizing how wrong you were, in the end you’re left with nothing but regrets because then it’s too late.

I must say the relationship, ladies of the house shared with each-other & with the daughters was just amazing. They realized their daughters needed everything but sympathy therefore the way they encouraged them was a perfect lesson to teach. Nazia’s conversations with her MIL & then her mother by the end of the drama were very truthful where she is convinced to move on in her life & snap out of the misery of her husband’s death. Nazia’s final decision of leaving behind her past & joining a college again for her own sake was another one of those commendable moves which showed that how important it is for a girl to get hold of her life & how easy it becomes when she has a strong support system.

Adeel Hussain as Shehbaz, Imran Aslam as Fahad, Imran Abbas as Moeez were brilliant & I loved their acting. Syra Yousaf as Nazia & Sanam Saeed as Shazia must take a bow for their perfect performances. Even though Sakina Samo as Habiba did have a side role to play but she was that important link that bind the whole family together. The drama did get a little slow after the 16th episode but nevermind. For the first time I also focused on the OST & it was amazingly sung by Komal Rizvi. I loved the ending of the drama where they showed some shots of the life Shehbaz & Nazia were living together. That particular bit made the drama a wholesome gift wrapped with a ribbon with a perfect bow on top because they didn’t let the viewers imaginations roll & gave them something to smile upon.

No wonder why Mera Naseeb got the appreciation because they changed a lot of perspectives about a lot of things through this drama. Share your views about Mera Naseeb.

RANJISH HI SAHI A MIND BLOWING DRAMA I HAVE EVER WATCHED ON GEO TV!

Woe as such a great and a brilliant drama came to an end, truly a sensational play by A&B Productions. Literally I am speechless and cannot describe my feeling how much I loved this play from the first episode to the last, I just want to give a standing ovation to the whole crew of RHS team and specially to writer Maha Malick for writing such a lovely and interesting script and director Nadeem Siddique for his splendid direction. There are only four plays that are closed my heart Dastaan, Humsafar, Daam, Aunn Zara and now this play is an addition there by making it five now. Honestly this play has touched the core of my heart and I am really going to miss this play.

Our directors love to take the play to 25 episodes and even more than that but Ranjish Hi Sahi is the first play that got finished in 25 episodes without a single bit of dragging instead there were many new twists and developments in each and every episode even in the last episode we are encountered with so many twists. This drama contains a very different story from the usual typical drama stories, this drama is more than the story of 2 sisters there are many hidden answers of real life. This drama is one of the very few plays which contains no negative characters and story is not based on conspiracies, marriages and evil plans, there is no saas-bahu stuff neither there is any sisters’ rivalry nor any Mazloom Larki bearing attrocities. This play is based on sufferings and actual happenings through which one person go in his/her life.

The greatness of writer Maha Malick
Our big writers are now losing charm and their current plays have been a complete disappointment. Actually we are so obsessed of big writers that we forgot to locate a gems in our industry and maha malick is the one. In my point of view where every big writer is making a blunder in their stories maha malick deserves the award for writing this play in such a beautiful way that every string of the story was well attached to each other and there are no blunders in the story and the ending is the most wonderful ending I have ever seen. The most perfect ending. All my praises to maha malick for staying extremely focused on the storyline and providing a very strong plot.
Maha Malick has ensured that play should not be predictable where everyone can form a judgment that the story from this stage will now progress in this manner so she had written this play with such twists and turns that you will feel like going through difficult terrains. Every episode contains a new twist hence making every prediction as a failure.

She has not only kept her focus on storyline but it seems like she had also given special attention towards the designing of characters. Each and every character is well etched out and was made for a purpose unlike the stories of current typical drama where side characters receive more importance than lead characters. The extensive use of urdu in dialogues is another credit that we should give to Maha Malick

All I can say that if the same story was written by Umera Ahmed people will not stop praising her. So why are we not recognising talents like maha malick?

The Exceptional Talent of Director Nadeem Siddique
I think when Nadeem had been given a responsibility to direct this play, he had himself clear that he will not direct the play in a manner which will destroy the interest and curiosity of the story. He had taken a very strong grip on the story and each and every scene is directed in a chronological order and there is no revelation of twists in an easy way. It seems like Nadeem Siddique had calculated how to end this drama within 25 episodes without dragging the story. Tremendous direction with very less flaws.

One thing that is very catchy to me is the use of bright colours, those who have also watched this drama might have also noticed. Nadeem had given us a visual treat by adding dashing colours which looks so beautiful on screen specially the Sana Javed’s wardrobe, she had brightened the screen through her wardrobe. No doubt the picture quality deserves praises as it had made the screen alluring with lovely colour combinations.

The Wonderful Cast
All the cast that was included in the play had done absolute justice to their respective roles. They have fulfilled the purpose for what actually they are assigned for. Although the story started from the meeting of Yumna Hashmi (Samiya Mumtaz) and Kamal Hassan (Faisal Rehman) but I would like to give special credit and my gratitude to Sana Javed and Maya Ali for doing a fabulous job by maintaining the interest in this drama after the demise of character Yumna Hashmi. The way they had carried the drama towards the end is indeed appreciable. The story is actually based on Hiba (Maya) and Tooba (Sana) and their lives filled with sufferings, difficulties and pain but the bond of their love had kept them united and fearless so that they can fight together with the pain and hardships of their lives, at some point they were quarrelling with each other because of their professionalism but still they have proved they cannot live without each other. I was really impressed with the character of Tooba who was a coward girl at the beginning of the drama but she transforms herself into courageous, confident and responsible girl after the death of her mother in order to give protection to hiba. Despite having different temperaments I really admired the connection of love between these two sisters and how they protect each other on different occasions. The character of Hiba fits extremely well to Maya as a silly and emotional girl who takes every decisions without giving a second thought. I thought Maya was great in “Aunn Zara” but she was awesome in Ranjish Hi Sahi. Sana Javed had proven that she is the most talented new comer in the field, she cannot only do comic roles but she can perform serious roles extremely well. Her expressions and dialogue delivery was pitch perfect with no flaws. The character of Hiba and Tooba was very difficult to be played as it requires to conform according to the changing situations in the play and Maya and Sana had done an impeccable work.

1374802_611769908917734_9116119779128643566_n
Emmad Erfani had done a great job as Rohail Hassan his character is indeed an important one in the drama but his expressions at some scenes are missing nevertheless overall he was good. Muhammad Ali had done a slight mediocre acting his character as arsal was also an important character in the play but he could have done a little bit better, Hina Sultan was good in her role and obviously no need to introduce Saba Hameed (played the character of Bilquees), Faisal Rehman and Samiya Mumtaz they are veteran actors.

Viewer’s Attention
Sadly this play never got the attention what it actually deserves and probably because the Pyaray Afzal was in the same time slot so yes it is hard to achieve that viewership when the current most popular drama was running in parallel. Another thing is that if suppose Pyaray Afzal was not in the same slot still this drama might have less viewership because at one point we say we want change but on the other hand we love to watch roti dhoti mazloom aurtein.

In terms of promotion Geo Entertainment channel also failed to promote this drama as they have promoted their other plays which are mostly rubbish instead they have ruined the twists by stating the twists in jung newspaper. They should have promoted the drama in different way and not by telling viewers what will happen because the backbone of this drama were the unexpected twists happening in each episode.

rhs11    rhs10

I wish this drama was not underrated anyways give your feedback how do you like this play if you have watched and for those who have not watched or dropped in between then my suggestion is to watch.

In the end I just like to say thank you RHS Team for providing a quality entertainment throughout six months with a perfect and beautiful ending, finally this was something new and fresh. A very thought provoking story indeed a salute again to Maha Malick.

Defense Ministry requested PEMRA to shut down Geo news

In recent turn of events, defense ministry has requested PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic and Media Regulatory Authority) to start proceedings to shut down Geo News. As per report,  spokesperson of defense ministry Nareeta Farhan has told BBC Urdu that defense minister Khawaja Asif has requested PEMRA to start legal proceedings as per section 32 and 36 of PEMRA ordinance 2002.

As per defense ministry, the channel has aired content against a prestigious institution of country which cannot be taken lightly. The minister further requested that after examining the content provided by them, the license of the channel should be cancelled on priority basis.

Before that interior ministry also released a press statement saying they have concerns the way a channel is accusing an institution in an irresponsible manner without any serious proofs. No example of such criticism can be found in the world the way channel went beyond limits in criticizing the respectable institution.

It all started when Hamid Mir, famous journalist associated with Geo News got injured in firing in Karachi. His brother Aamir Mir accused ISI chief Major Zaheerul Islam for the incident. Geo News, played some talk shows on the same issue which as per defence ministry are against some clauses of PEMRA ordinance 2002 so it has requested to start due proceedings accordingly.

Ranjish Hi Sahi – Happy Ending…Just What The Doctor Ordered!!

0

I must confess that I love happy endings even if they are slightly unconvincing at times! The ending of the play was predictable because the only way for Hiba to be happy and the only way in which Kamal Hassan’s son could redeem himself was by giving Hiba her happy ending but it was gratifying nevertheless; I feel satisfied and content knowing that these two sisters got their happy ending. What is even more gratifying is that Kamal Hassan and his family gift wrapped their happiness and handed it over to them in the shape of their old house and by giving Hiba the love of her life. I must say that Rohail’s change of heart was too sudden but like I said I am glad it happened. Tooba decided to marry Arsal only after she found out about Hiba’s feelings for Rohail; something that was completely in line with Tooba’s character. Tooba always loved Arsal, she only moved on because she knew she couldn’t marry him because Hiba did not want her to. Arsal went against his mother’s wishes and married Tooba, something which he was always willing to do.

rhs

I loved the way Bilquees played the anti hero in the play. The change in her personality was mainly due to her love for Kamal. I couldn’t help but feel for her character; no one should have to go through what she went through. Bilquees has learned the art of loving!!

Ranjish Hi Sahi had a simple narrative but it stood out because of a different story, grey shaded characters and beautiful conversations. I want to thank the writer Maha Malik from the core of my heart for the beautiful dialogues and most importantly for her command on the language. I said it before and I want to say this again that there are hardly any dramas nowadays in which we hear such good Urdu without any use of English language. The director Nadeem Siddique made this play a visual treat by playing with colors and by using locations which were new and pleasing. The scene in which Yumna and Kamal sit on the white bench with a green background was amazing. Every single scene was like a beautiful painting; well thought out and surely a labor of love. I must admit that I am not a big fan of Maya Ali but her character really grew on me towards the end and her acting was impressive in the last few episodes. Sana Javed made Tooba’s character stand out; I am sure that she will go a long way. Emmad Irfani and Mohammad Ali did very well for newcomers; whoever discovered them and gave them a chance have done great service to the viewers by introducing talented new faces. I must add that I think that the director went an extra mile to polish these new actors so he also deserves due credit.

rhs1

I started watching this play only because of Faisal Rehman and Samiya Mumtaz. Samiya Mumtaz’s character may not have been given a lot of screen time but she made Yumna’s character unforgettable only in a few episodes. Faisal Rehman is a gem; he can never go wrong. The chemistry that Samiya Mumtaz and Faisal Rehman shared was beyond amazing. I never support extra marital affairs or second marriages but Yumna and Kamal won me over completely.

Saba Hameed was perfect as Bilquees Kamal right from her very first scene till the last one. Humera Ali did complete justice to her character. I must say that whoever was responsible for the casting did a splendid job. The actors who played the supporting roles for a little while also did very well. There aren’t too many dramas in which everyone acts so well. We usually see even the big production houses and directors compromising on supporting actors which basically kills the overall feel of the play. The production values were extraordinary throughout the play. Overall, it was absolute pleasure watching and reviewing the play. I would definitely be looking forward to more from the RHS team.

A big thanks to all those readers who followed the reviews and took time out to comment…where would we be without all of you.

Imran Abbas to tie the knot soon..

0

Actor and Model, Imran Abbas needs no introduction as he is loved by everyone who happened to watch even a single show of his. Only question that is frequently asked from single artists is when exactly are they going to get married and we always get these kind of replies, ” maybe after 5 years” , “unable to find my soulmate yet” , “abhi tou bohat kaam karna hai” , “I am too young to get married” etc etc..

imran_abbas_tieing_knot_soon

But this time, when same question was asked from Imran, he gave a detailed reply. Imran has already committed a girl, whose name and identity was kept confidential. He added that she is not from film fraternity but daughter of family friends and he is going to get married next year.

We are missing Imran’s presence onscreen these days and badly waiting for him to announce any of his Pakistani projects.

Komal Rizvi Publishes Her Own Cooking/Recipe Book.

0

Well ,well , well ..These days we are coming across so many news that are unable to digest. Anchor persons signing movies, actors becoming singers, singers becoming actors and now singer becoming a chef ? Like seriously ?

481695-Komalphotofile-1355932059-898-640x480

The news I just came across is that famous singer and actress, Komal Rizvi has recently published her cooking book with the title of “Rizvi’s Cooking” as she claims that she is too good with cooking. Keeping that in mind, team of famous reality cooking show Master Chef invited Komal to make a guest judge appearance but Komal rejected the offer because she dont want to be a “guest” judge after publishing her own book.  There might be a chance that we will see Komal in some cooking show soon.. :)

Would love to read your feedback about our artists experimentation these days.

Mehwish Hayat is all set with another experiment.

0

Currently , Mehwish Hayat is included among top notch artists of Pakistan who not only experimented with their looks in every serial but also with the genre of work they do. Mehwish acted in various dramas, appeared in commercials, did modelling, participated in reality show, tried her luck in singing which appear to be successful too. And now Mehwish is all set to do an ITEM NUMBER in upcoming Pakistani movie name as Na-maloom Afraad.

1966792_10152713255913222_470623309_n

Without any doubt, Mehwish is a great dancer but keeping our culture in mind ,we should try not to copy Bollywood by adding item numbers in our movies. Previously,Mathira did an item number too. I mean, they can show quality content without adding too much of glamor in movies..Still, I am looking forward to see Mehwish in an item song.

Thats all folks.. !

Marasim – Episode 04!

0

Hmmm, another good episode with a decent progress in the story. I am glad that they have started to introduce the new characters by now & have stopped resorting to a lot of flashbacks. They have pretty much given us the insight about the past & the family background so now sticking to the present seems like a perfect choice.

Daood has stood by his promise & still tries to talk Momenah into marrying him but now Momenah has promised her mother that she will do everything to avoid & forget Daood therefore she knows there’s no turning back. Momenah being a daughter naturally feels a lot more for her mother & blames Gaitiara for the nasty she has instigated. Momenah is unable to understand that Sherbano’s behaviour with Gaitiara has forced her to not feel a thing for Sherbano now but she is overlooking the fact & tells Daood that she is over their relationship because he didn’t support Sherbano in front of Gaitiara.

In this hour of need Sherbano has her sister by her side who is ears to all her problems. No matter how honest her caterwauling regarding Momenah is but I fail to feel a thing for Sherbano’s character because I think it’s her time to payback & sadly it involves Momenah sacrificing her happiness but for the sake of Sherbano I say she deserves what she’s being put up with.

Momenah’s khala ceased the opportunity & convinced Momenah to move on & starting afresh with her cousin & Khala’s son Fahad who is going to return from The States very soon. Momenah thinks rushing into another relation will help her come to terms with the fact that her engagement with Daood has been called off & she will reach to some sort of a closure. Momenah did make a hasty decision but definitely the news of Daood getting engaged helped her in taking this step.

A new family of Gaitiara’s mother’s family friend was brought into the picture where Almas has all her sympathies with Gaitiara because she is not only her dress designer but shares a relation with her that dates back to the friendship that both of their mothers shared with each other. Gaitiara who now wants Daood to settle down will find just Almas’s sister a perfect match for him.

Daood has retaliated a lot & I liked the fact that he stood by the decision he made but now when Momenah herself has backed out, he can’t seem to undo what happened & have an issue concentrating on things around him. He needed Momenah’s support to overcome this obstacle but now when she isn’t ready, Daood is bewildered & depressed. This episode introduced Urwa’s character as a simpleton girl embodying shyness. I hope her character remains the same & she gives us the reason to like her presence in the play. I am glad they have come up with a decent story with an up to the mark direction to fill out the prime time slots on the Sundays & I must give a special mention to both Sonia Hussain & Ahsan Khan for playing the roles of Momenah & Daood effortlessly. Sonia Hussain looks stunning & she has breathed a life into her character. Share your views about the latest episode.

Pakistan Idol Week 20 – Last Elimination! :/

0

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, ALI ASADDDDD ZAIDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. :/

The competition came to a certain level where all the viewers were actually torn between the top 3 contestants because each one of them is a competent & a well deserving candidate for winning the title. Like I said at this point whoever’d go would leave behind a lot of regrets because everyone has developed an emotional attachment to all these contestants especially the TOP 3.

Sadly, it was Ali Asad Zaidi’s turn this time but I think just because of his outstanding personality & the aura, he already has become a star. Yes, he may not be the winner of the title but he is a winner in his own way. I think if anyone’d remember the first ever lot of Pakistan Idol’s contestants, Ali Asad Zaidi is one of those names who’d never be forgotten.

It was really emotional to see his VT & especially when he shed a few tears. AWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Judges like always had some amazing things to say about Ali Asad Zaidi. Whatever Hadiqa Kiyani said was spot on because yes he has stood out the most & we wish him ALL THE BEST & I hope all the eliminated contestants especially Ali Asad Zaidi get to perform in the Grand Finale. It would be treat for all his fans.

Congratulations to the rooters of Zamad Baig & Mohammad Shoaib. The countdown has just begun & now let’s wait for the GRAND FINALE. :)

By the way on a side note, after Ali’s elimination I’d like to mention that those who have questioned the authenticity & the fairness of the voting system might find some peace with what I am about to say. An insider once told me that the management has already chosen Ali Asad Zaidi as a winner & now his elimination says it all. I am glad that the voting system has been declared fair & I believe in it completely, not that I had any doubts but after Ali’s elimination, I’ve got my clear cut answer!

I wish all the luck, happiness, brighter future to our ROCKSTAR Ali Asad Zaidi. By the way was it just me, when Hadiqa Kiyani was giving out her comments about Ali Asad a wishful thinking emerged that she must do a duet with him too because the way Hadiqa has performed all those pop songs, Ali’s voice would fit so well with her, isn’t it? I just couldn’t help recalling her song ‘Hona Tha Pyaar’ a duet she has performed with Atif Aslam, I mean her & Ali’s voice would compliment one another so well in these type of numbers. I hope she does a collab with Ali Asad Zaidi too because that’s going to be a massive hit.
