Ohkay so, the past couple of episodes despite being interesting to have slowed down the pace of the drama & the progress in the story. However, the overall execution & the shifts in the characters are very much able to hold my interest as a viewer. This episode focused on how hard Kashf was trying to help her sister but unfortunately, she can’t do much because Irum is not ready to understand her point of view.
Kashf’s Authoritativeness
In this episode, what I really liked was the authoritativeness that Kashf displayed. She finally knows she is at that stage where she can make decisions, although she understands that not everything she says will be agreed upon but she feels that’s the least she can do if that means saving her sister’s life from getting ruined. Kashf’s helplessness is what makes me feel for her a lot because she has the best interests of her entire family but unfortunately for them, she is just a breadwinner & nothing else. This was elaborated when Irum casually spoke about how much Kashf has done for them but that didn’t mean they all were going to allow her to make decisions on their behalf.
Imtiyaz has everything under control. It is always interesting to the rivalry between him & Matiullah, it perfectly showcases how different forces start working against you when you start becoming successful. Matiullah has been on Imtiyaz’s case ever since he has opened up the Asthana, obviously, it has a lot to do with the financial crunch that Matiullah is faced with but it has more to do with his bruised ego. Just a few months ago Matiullah used to treat Imtiyaz as a nobody & never in a million years he imagined that a good-for-nothing Imtiyaz will end up giving him a run for his money. It is unfortunate that in this rivalry, Matiullah has decided to destroy the lives of Ashi & Irum – which is something Imtiyaz does not deserve whatsoever. Matiullah is a coward in a literal sense who derives pleasure by oppressing the weak & vulnerable. When he was married to Ashi, he treated her as a doormat & now when she is finally free, he is once again doing what it takes to make sure she never finds happiness again. In this case, Aqmal & Babar are equally responsible but sadly, they are a depiction of those people who’d do anything to make some money.
Kashf’s life has not been easy & now even more because she is faced with new challenges every day. Kashf would’ve never thought that her own sister would turn against her. Kashf never had any expectations from Zoya because she had already shown that Kashf meant nothing to her. This is another reason why Kashf feels hurt & betrayed because she can not deal with the fact that Irum has started doubting her intentions. Irum & Ashi are a representation of those females who find it very easy to trust men they love. I must commend the writer for showing two females from different age groups because actually when deception men come into the picture, your age doesn’t matter. Anyone would expect Ashi to be a bit more mature because she has already been through an abusive & failed marriage but seeing her easily falling for Aqmal goes to show how desperately she wants to settle down & have a life of her own. Irum is just being hopelessly stupid. Despite the constant warnings, she is ready to turn a blind eye because she wants to challenge her fate as well as all that Kashf says.
Imtiyaz continued to remind Kashf of what she was supposed to do if she wanted to see her sister getting married. I think this change in Kashf’s attitude has definitely been the best aspect of her journey so far where she has started speaking up to her father who continues to exploit her. Once again, all that Kashf’s doing is not for herself but for her sister but sadly, they don’t really understand. I really look forward to the time when Kashf will eventually speak up for herself too. Props to the writer for showing that despite accepting this as her fate, Kashf has still not lost her voice & her opinion. She very much understands her responsibilities, this is why she doesn’t shy away from stating them every chance she gets because she knows people around her often forget to distinguish between right & wrong. Imtiyaz thinks he gets to control Kashf but as the days are passing by, she is letting him know that he can not get away with whatever he wants!
Directed With Precision
The story in the past couple of episodes has not progressed, probably because the focus has been on Irum & Ashi but the overall execution still makes it very interesting. There’s no denying the fact that these days Kashf’s is definitely one of the must-watch dramas. The director definitely deserves full points for keeping it so precise & to the point. Honestly speaking, as the episode began I thought it would be dedicated to Fayyaz’s death & the mourning period in all its entirety but I was pleasantly surprised how just a couple of scenes were dedicated to his family to show that they were emotionally shattered & then the focus shifted on Kashf’s family. This actually shows how the writer as well as the director have had a vision where they didn’t want to spend a lot of time on the scenarios which could be dealt with in a couple of scenes.
Waseem Abbas definitely made this episode a lot more entertaining. It also had some very meaningful conversations to its credit, especially the ones between Irum & Kashf. I really liked the scene where Kashf consoled Daadi, the way her own voice got heavier went to show that she too got emotional seeing Daadi in that emotional state – that was some brilliant & realistic acting done by Hira Mani. I feel in those scenes where Hira is trying to sound authoritative, she loses the touch of Kashf’s character despite trying very hard to hold onto. I think because this is a new shift in her character, it will definitely require some time getting used to it – felt the same in the previous episode in just one scene but in this episode, it was quite evident. Having said that, it definitely does not take away from the fact that Hira Mani definitely has carried the drama on her shoulders & has given such a performance which is going to leave a long-lasting impression on everyone. I must commend the writer once again for using a ‘fantasy’ genre & giving it such a realistic treatment. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Kashf.

Truth be told, it is not easy to find inspiring male characters in Pakistani dramas! While Pakistani dramas on the one hand are bent on showing women as becharis, at the same time, they love showing men as the most flawed and naive humans alive. Husbands who are easily swayed away by other women and the villains who are all negative. Although there are just as many male characters in Pakistani dramas as there are female characters, it is really difficult to pick those few male characters who could be termed as ‘inspiring’.
Even the most inspiring characters can be flawed, they make mistakes but they also redeem themselves. Therefore we are not saying that these characters are perfect but they were definitely refreshing to watch. Even with all their shortcomings, these characters can easily be termed as refreshing. There is a dire need to show such male characters in order to change the perspective of people. These male leads showed that when a man decides to support a woman, they can be a force to reckon with.
Here is a list of the most inspiring male characters in recent Pakistani dramas who are making a difference in their own ways by breaking stereotypes. Since most of the Pakistani dramas revolve around romantic tracks, therefore, some of these inspiring characters are not out there changing the world but they are redefining the relationship between a man and woman in a good way.
Wajdaan (Kashf)
Wajdaan is a rather simple character in drama serial Kashf yet he has some qualities which set him apart from many other leading men in Pakistani dramas. He is a level-headed and intelligent man who is madly in love with Kashf. Even against all the odds he never stepped back or got confused for a single second. He would do anything to win Kashf over even though she has told him off more than once. From taking a stand for Kashf when she was labeled manhoos to working in the astana only to be around the woman he loves, Wajdaan has proved to be a real hero. He has so many positive traits but he looks like an ordinary man who is doing what he believes in. Wajdaan’s love and dedication for Kashf, his approach which is the perfect mix of balanced and passionate makes him the kind of male character we would like to see more often. Junaid Khan has breathed life into this character by giving a superb performance.
Ali (Tera Ghum Aur Hum)
Tera Ghum Aur Hum is another love triangle that involves a man who has a solid character. Ali is on this list because he has the courage and integrity to stand by his woman. A man who has never once been confused about his feelings for Mahi even though she has always been the ‘reluctant’ partner. It was certainly refreshing watching Ali stand by Mahi even when her ex-fiancé tried to create a misunderstanding between then and when his father asked him to choose between his wife and him. Ali’s character shows how a man can make things easier for his wife by putting her first. He does so in the most dignified manner which makes his character even more likable. Mirza Zain Baig excels in playing such balanced and admirable characters therefore he was the perfect choice for playing this role.
Aziz (Sabaat)
Anaya’s father in Sabaat is literally a breath of fresh air. He is kind, gentle, insightful, and fit every role perfect. As a father and a husband, he plays his roles so well. We hardly get to see such a perfect combination of cool and intelligent male characters in a drama. The fathers are either too soft, non-existent, or too rigid in Pakistani dramas. Aziz knows his responsibilities and carried them out effortlessly. What is most pleasing about his character is that you get to see how he impacts the people around him and don’t hear other people talking about it. Muhammad Ahmed deserves all the credit for being so admirable as Aziz. He shares such amazing on-screen chemistry with all his co-stars that his relationships with them seem so real.
Abdul Ala (Alif)
This list of inspiring male characters will be incomplete without Abdul Ala who was the most layered and remarkable character of drama serial Alif. The entire story of this dignified aged man where he uses the lessons he has learned to change someone’s life made him a character that should be in this list. Abdul Ala’s conversations with Momin were remarkable as well as game-changing. He wasn’t just talking to Momin but to every viewer out there who never had the time to self-reflect. Abdul Ala’s connection with Allah and all those conversations he had with Momin was the highlight of drama serial Alif. He was a character inspiring in ways completely different from all the other characters in this list. Manzar Sehbai’s outstanding performance made this character even more powerful.
Haji Ilyas (Inkaar)
Haji Illyas was the kind of male character we rarely get to see in Pakistani dramas. He was a father who stood against all odds to be there by his daughter’s side. His internal struggles showed the viewers that the path he chose to walk was not an easy one yet he never let his daughter down. There were times when he found it really difficult to go on but he always proved he was strong enough to fight this battle against people who were far more powerful than him. Haji Illyas was gentle and fierce at the same time, a man who made some of the most intelligent decisions and did not care about what people would think. We definitely need to see more such males in our dramas. Rehan Sheikh added the emotions needed to make the viewers fall in love with his character.
Shayan (Inkaar)
Shayan was inspiring in so many ways. Right from the beginning, he was shown as a man who questioned whatever he thought was wrong with the system, and even after being rejected by Hajra so many times, he stood by her like a rock. It won’t be wrong to say that Shayan did not get the credit he deserves towards the end for all the support and courage he showed throughout. He was shown as a tough and sensitive man who respected women in general and would do anything for the woman he loved. Shayan was one of the few progressive males we have seen in Pakistani dramas. Sami Khan always brings out the best in his characters and this was one of the best characters he played.
Saad (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Ehd-e-Wafa was all about breaking the stereotypes. It had many characters that were inspiring in their own way. Saad’s character was not faultless, his journey had its ups and downs. There was a time when the viewers had a tough time liking the teenage Saad. Once his character came into its own, the viewers couldn’t help but appreciate Saad’s forward-thinking, his support for Dua, and the way he decided to let go of the past and salvage his relationships. Saad turned into the kind of character which offered variations and positivity in so many ways. Ahad Raza Mir nailed this character by doing justice to all the different stages of Saad’s journey.
Shehryar (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Shehryar was an inspiring character for all the young men out there who do not belong to affluent households. He came from a poor family but with his hard work and dedication, he managed to reach a position that enabled him to make a difference. We hear so many such real-life stories but we rarely get to see such people getting the right kind of representation in our dramas. Apart from being focused on his own future, he was always there to support his family in every way possible. Among all his friends, he was the only one who never let his emotions get the best of him. He made one mistake but after that, he made sure that he did not do anything to let the people who love him down. Ahmed Ali Akbar was simply superb as Shehryar, the viewers loved his character and acting the most in the drama.
Asfand (Baba Jani)
When Faysal Qureshi decided to start his career as a producer, he chose to play a character that represented men in a completely different manner. The way Asfand juggled all his relationships, married a widow although he had the option of marrying her daughter and loved that daughter as his own made him an inspiring character. Asfand was such a wonderful break from all those males who marry women half their age and fall for lies told to them. He made one mistake and after that, he made sure that he didn’t make any other. Faysal Qureshi translated this character decently on screen, he made sure that the viewers understood and loved Asfand.
Saim (Meer Abru)
Mirza Zain Baig plays the character of a balanced and gentle male lead so well. He was the one who made Saim even more likable. Saim was a loving and caring husband to Abru who was constantly scared that she might lose him since she was stuck in a strange love triangle. Saim changed Abru’s perspective of men and relationships especially after everything she had been through. It would be great watching more such sane male leads in our dramas who can stay loyal to their wives and stand by them even when conditions are not too favorable.

Prepare to be wooed this Eid with the majestic chemistry of Feroze Khan and Zara Noor Abbas in the telefilm Dil Tera Hogaya.
We just looked at the first teaser of the telefilm and we’ve been smitten by it. Zara and Feroze look absolutely beautiful together and make you wish you’d been watching this on the big screen.
Dil Tera Hogaya is a 7th Sky Entertaimemt productiom. The telefilm has been directed by Aehsun Talish f or Geo Entertainment and stars Feroze Khan and Zara Noor Abbbas in the lead. Dil Tera Hogaya has been written by Saima Akram Chaudhry who the audience already adores for Suno Chanda.
Sabaat continues to be a mediocre drama because the script lacks clarity and the screenplay leaves a lot to be desired. Harris’ background was finally revealed in this episode and he proposed to Miraal as well. After watching their scenes, I am still wondering why he is in love with this woman and why isn’t he trying harder to ‘fix’ the problems she has. This track definitely lacks the kind of clarity which was required to make the viewers relate to this attraction Harris has toward Miraal. Since everything is being revealed gradually, all we can do it sit and wait!
Unfortunately, Anaya and Hasan’s scenes were repetitive. There was a role reversal in this episode, Anaya was the one who constantly reassured Hasan. I was really hoping that we will for a change get to watch a couple which did not fall into the stereotypes our writers so diligently follow but that was most certainly not the case. The pace of this episode was just as slow as the previous few. It was difficult for me to sit through some of the scenes which could easily have been chopped down. I missed watching Anaya’s parents tonight and Hasan’s mother went back to being a caricature in this episode. Harris’ comment about Fareed being a wonderful father made me laugh. Unless he turns out to be a negative or twisted character, his personality makes little sense. How could a psychiatrist be such a bad judge of character? How could he out of his own free will choose to marry a narcissist who made it pretty clear that he would have to win her over? Miraal’s ‘please me’ attitude is was as clear as daylight in their third meeting yet Harris chose to ignore all these signs. I really hope that his troubled past would have some relevance otherwise there was no need to make his story so ‘tragic’!
Miraal and Harris
After making sure that the viewers knew that there was nothing wrong with Miraal and Harris dating now, the writer moved on really quickly to showing them meeting frequently. Since they were not in touch at all after that email, their meetings were difficult to connect to. They appeared to be individuals who knew each other well yet we have seen very few scenes in which they had a meaningful conversation. This track has been covered and carried forward in the most unconvincing manner. So, we must assume that while both of them were meeting and talking on the phones during the therapy sessions, they drew close to one another. That is what all the conversation tonight and in the previous episode suggested.
So. Harris had a difficult childhood, he has no relatives and does not like to stay in touch with his parents since they abandoned him as a child. I would have liked to know how he made it this far since it seems like he is financially stable. The proposal on Miraal’s request and their conversation, later on, suggested that Harris was more than willing to be yet another person in Miraal’s life who would do anything to please her. Also, the way Miraal talked about herself and how well he knew her went to show that she did not hide anything from him. Some of the readers were wondering if Miraal really revealed her actual personality in those therapy sessions since we never got to watch them, well we got the answer today! Yes, Harris knows how controlling Miraal is and that she likes people to please her, yet he sees nothing wrong with that. In fact, he thinks that Fareed has done a superb job raising his daughter!
Fareed was much more flexible when it came to Miraal’s marriage, no surprises there. Although he had made up his mind that Miraal would continue living them after she got married, he did not put his foot down. Miraal once again got what she wanted quite easily. The way Fareed tells his wife off is just plain disgusting, watching women put up with such men in dramas especially when they have the option to leave the house is disappointing.
Anaya and Hasan
Although I absolutely loved Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gillani’s performances tonight, their track took a disappointing turn. Anaya was shown working, making breakfast, lunch, and even dinner while Hasan felt completely useless. Why couldn’t Anaya let Hasan help her? This was such a perfect opportunity for the writer to show that there is nothing wrong with a woman earning and a man looking after the house and cooking but their story took such a clichéd turn! Hasan felt useless and perhaps insecure as well. If he had the meals prepared for Anaya when she came back from the office, he would have felt more ‘useful’ but that was somehow not his duty!
The construction business going down did not do Fareed any harm, someone who I was hoping would get a wake-up call once he loses his wealth but it affected Hasan and Anaya more. Anaya’s parents were completely missing from this episode, their advice and support could have helped Hasan as well. All of Hasan and Anaya’s scenes were more or less the same. In the previous few episodes, I was feeling for Hasan because he had to continuously reassure Anaya and in this episode, it was the other way around. Moving into a new house, away from Miraal could have been shown as a positive development in their lives but apparently it has created more problems for them. The preview of the next episode suggested that Hasan will get more frustrated with Anaya in the upcoming episode.
Final Remarks
I am still waiting to find out who Harris really is. Is he as nice as he appears? Does he have an ulterior motive? Tonight’s episode was definitely not the best. The preview of the next episode showed that Miraal is still bent on creating a rift between Hasan and Anaya. So far, Sabaat’s script lacks clarity, depth, and meaning therefore I don’t have high expectations from the upcoming episode. The director has focused a great deal on making each episode visually pleasing and he has succeeded in doing so but many of the ‘important’ scenes are most often not as impactful as they should or can be.
