Entertainment industry strives on controversies and thrives on making issues that become talk of the town. No news is bad news when it comes to ratings and popularity. 2017 gave us a herd of new topics and controversies and issues to that got even the most introvert of people to join because they were so much talked about. Here we will sum up most of them.
Noor Bukhari’s Hijab
After being part of the glamour and music industry for many years, it is no surprise that people were taken aback when Noor announced that she will take hijab and appear only on religious shows after taking divorce from her third husband.
Mahira-Ranbir Controversy
In the last half of this year, Mahira Khan, the good girl of Pakistani industry was clicked as she sat in the streets of Newyork in a backless skimpy dress, smoking a cigarette. Accompanying her was Ranbir Kapoor dressed in pyjama like clothing and smoking as well. The issue worked up into a storm and people from the showbiz started defending Mahira left, right and centre, while a lot of general public was of the opinion that she had crossed the lines of decency. The issue remained top trending for a number of weeks and is still hot enough to start a debate anytime.
Aamir-Faryal Divorce
Boxer Aamir Khan and his wife Faryal Makhdoom have been running their own reality show almost since they got married. This year, however, things turned very ugly as Faryal accused him of being infidel and the blame was reciprocated in intensity as Amir blamed her for having affair with another boxer. Then things took a U turn and Faryal claimed her account had been hacked, and Amir apologised to the other man he had accused of having illegal relation with Faryal. He still stood by his stance that they are divorcing but Faryal announced her second pregnancy in the midst of the spat. Hence, the saga continues but the couple made headlines with these antics many times this year.
Zaid Ali’s Wedding
Initially thought to be one of his pranks, Zaid Ali’s wedding announcement was not taken seriously. Later, when it emerged that he was serious, people became very inquisitive as to his relationship status and the topic became talk of the town with Pakistani people worldwide. Then he shared the countdown and his wedding pictures and tabloids started falling over themselves to get the first and most of them. The couple also made videos for the fans to introduce themselves properly and speak up about their relationship.
Hamza Abbasi’s Take On Item Songs
Hamza Ali Abbasi was very vocal about his disdain of Item songs especially after one from Na Maloom Afraad 2 was released in which Sadaf Kanwal has performed. His criticism of them sparked an immediate debate as people really wanted to remind him of the time when he himself had been part of such vulgar scenes in Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. A lot of people were impressed by him which he later changed when he defended Mahira Khan’s vulgarity while having spoken against it a few months earlier.
Sahir Lodhi’s Ridiculous Hosting
Sahir Lodhi once again received a lot of scorn when his usual behaviour proved too much for audience. In a Ramzan game show, he insulted a girl as she was speaking in a debate competition on her show, acting all patriotic when she said the Quaid e Azam would feel sorry if he saw the state of the country he had so fought for. However, his over the top behaviour did not sit well and he had to publicly apologise. In a few days, however, he was back to his attention seeking self, making up games like running with audience and asking women to physically catch him. He was a source of much anger this year to a lot of people.
Amjad Sabri’s Family Feud
In Ramzan, there came two girls on TV for reciting naats and nasheeds, claiming to be nieces of the late Amjad Sabri. The twist came when Amjad Sabri’s real family came on Tv and openly disowned them, claiming that they were just using the family name when they have no relationship. The girls and her mother retaliated by saying that they were disowned by the family even though they were a liegitmate part of it and that the girls are related to Amjad Sabri by blood. The issue is still unsolved.
Amir Liaquat’s Outrageous Claims And Bans On Him
Amir Liaquat was frequently in the news this year for reasons ranging from his show on Bol where he gave controversial and unrestrained opinions and later for his game show when he announced he will be giving gifts like personal jets to the winners, though nothing like that was given in reality.
PakistaniActors And Indian Films
As Mahira Khan starrer “Raees” released this year, after Fawad Khan’s Indian films, there was a lot of fuss as to why these people are taking their talents to a rival country. However, it seems as if people have become more accepting of this as many more like Sajal Ali, Saba Qamar and Adnan Siddiqui have gone on to play roles in Indian movies.
So these were the issues that kept social media alive and sparking this year. Let’s see what hot topics the new year has in store for us. You know where to tune in for the latest fights, feuds and debates of the town… right??
After composing the official PSL anthem for the past two years Ali Zafar is back with a third one and it’s called “Dil Se Jaan Laga De” as the artist captions in his insta post.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BdShMBJnX8E/
The anthems for past two seasons Ab Khel Kay Dikha for the PSL debut season and Ab Khel Jamay Ga for the second year of PSL have been phenomenal especially the latter the sound of which still makes the cricket hormone inside every Pakistani go all gaga as it has been seen and heard over 6 million times on YouTube alone.
In a recent interview the Channo artist stated that,
“Two things that lie at the heart of our nation’s DNA are cricket and music and I am extremely fortunate to live these two passions in this lifetime. As exciting as it is to write, compose and to sing the official anthem for the third time, it was actually quite challenging given that last year’s anthem was such a massive hit,”
He further commented,
“I cannot explain how humbling it was to hear it play from every car, home and in every street when the final came home to Pakistan. In fact, when I was writing it, I wrote the entire chorus based on the vision, hope and dream of cricket returning to Pakistan and we are very fortunate that it did! This year’s anthem takes that thought further and it is based on a celebration; that last year’s dream was fulfilled, that the PSL embraces the very essence of cricket and pride; that Pakistan and Pakistanis will take the Super League to the next level again this year.”
Dil Se Jaan Laga De has been composed, written, produced and sung by Ali Zafar and is slated for an early 2018 release.
Mahira Khan has come a long way in a very short time. From Bol to Humsafar to shehr e zaat, somehow Mahira is an example of she came, she saw and she conquered. She has gained enormous success. While some may be baffled by how she has amassed so many hit shows and movies, the fact remains that Mahira Khan clicked big time, in almost everything she did. Maybe it was the right mentors or the right attitude, Mahira Khan is the most successful and most expensive actress of today in Pakistan.
She has always been very guarded in her interviews and even seemed to be lacking the verbal skills to articulate well in some instances. But her most recent interview with Samina Pirzada was mind blowing. Mahira spoke with such honesty and fluency that you never lose focus or get bored anywhere in the whole episode. In Rewind With Samina Pirzada, Mahira spoke her heart out on various personal topics.
On being born eight years after her parents’ marriage and being spoilt
Mahira Khan rewound her childhood, telling that she was called a “miracle baby” at her birth, since she was born eight years after her parents’ marriage when they had almost given up hope and were planning to adopt. So she was terribly spoilt and pampered by all including her grandfather whom she was very close to.
Then she had a brother just one year after her and he was her own baby so Mahira really spoilt him. They lived together in a big house with extended family so she grew up between cousins, most of whom were boys.
On having strict parents
Mahira Khan told how her mother was very protective and paranoid of her. She also remembers her as being really melodramatic like scaring the kids by threatening to take them to the burns ward. She was also quite strict about the studies, but Mahira spoke very fondly that she was never really scared of her parents. Her home was always open to her friends and her father would get up in the middle of the night and cook meals for whomever was awake.
On not finishing her degree
Mahira had gone to USA for studying chemical engineering but soon found it too hard and switched to psychology which she left after a few semesters because she had to work two jobs to support herself and her studies. There seemed to be some details missing since she had such well off parents but she told just this much.
On finding love
Many years after her divorce, Mahira was still very forthright about her love life, marriage and divorce. She told that she had fell in love at fourteen years of age but he came to Pakistan some years before her. At twenty one, she also left her studies and came to Pakistan and got married. Though it didn’t work out for her but Mahira still spoke of it as a magical time in her life.
On motherhood
Mahira is a proud mother to eight year Azlan whom she affectionately calls Azoo. She said that whenever she is back from work, she just holds this little person she has created and owns and that’s when she truly feels at home.
On being an actress
She also recounted her journey of being hired as a VJ and resisting that because she wanted to be an actress. However , that happened in its own time and during Bol and Humsafar, she was still a newbie and quite taken aback by the enormity of this business but by the time Shehrezat happened, she had truly gotten the hang of getting into the skin of her characters.
On controversies
Mahira said that controversy with Ranbir Kapoor was the first time she had fallen into a personal one, and that has made her wiser and more cautious at the expense of her innocence.
On marrying for the second time
Samina Pirzada asked if Mahira plans on falling in love and marrying again, to which she replied that she really hopes she does fall in love again.
On understanding separation and death
On a final note, Mahira Khan said that she understands separation and moving on. As for death, she does understand what it means but does not know how she would deal if it happened closer to home.
With that was the end of a very heart to heart conversation by Mahira Khan on Rewind With Samina Pirzada.
Ohkay so, it was yet another entertaining episode of Aangan. A lot happened & once again, a lot of details surfaced about different characters. Watching Aangan is like watching your own family because the societal pattern & the thought process remains the same, that is why you always relate to what is being shown in this drama!
Anila obviously couldn’t mind her own business, so she reappeared to try her hands on ruling her bhabhis once again. Even though Anila knows that she has no say in this household whatsoever, but she still keeps on trying thinking she will be able to change things that bother her. Since Anila has everything sorted in her life & now that she has nothing else to do, she has assigned herself a duty of reminding her parents that their daughters in law are doing what they deem fit.
The most interesting bit was Aqdas teaching Abba Jee the usage of social media. It once again struck a chord because in this day & age, we all get to connect with our senior relatives because almost everyone is now getting used to YouTube & Facebook. The conversation where Zaitoon described American presidents was not only hilarious but spot on as well because it is a fact that the ladies of our families usually have nothing to do with foreign affairs or international politics but yes, it was also suggested that Zaitoon did know about the former & the current president, like she had an idea because the men of her family watched the news channels, so she was well informed!
So, Shaina got the undue credit for Zoya’s hardwork. Zoya wasn’t jealous but she was actually hurt seeing everyone’s reaction to Shaina’s publication because she knew that things would’ve been totally different if everyone had known that it was Zoya & not Shaina who wrote that story. Zoya could see that just because Shaina had her parents’ support, everyone else was encouraging her too whereas just because her own parents didn’t encourage her, she never got a chance to pursue her passion. Zoya’s heartbreak was nicely covered because she could see that she wouldn’t have gotten such encouragement from all of her family members because when it came to ghar ki betis, they had a pretty old school thinking!
So, Zahid finally came back, as staunch & as stern as ever. This entire aspect told how everyone has an issue with everyone in a joint family system, but some stay quiet out of courtesy whereas others blurt out anything that comes to their minds because they think they’re entitled to voicing their opinions. Hajra’s reaction showed that by the end of the day, she was a mother who put her children above everyone else. It was the same Hajra who scolded Sadaan in front of Asim & Zoya when he brought Afrah home but now when Zahid did the same, she couldn’t tolerate it. Zaitoon also chose to be a mother & that is why she didn’t see anything wrong with what Zahid did & she also chose to let Hajra know that she didn’t appreciate the way she reacted. These subtle family politics & family dynamics make Aangan a very interesting watch where you get to understand everyone’s perspective.
So, Abba Jee got to see his grandson’s university pictures, it was actually quite sweet that he hid those pictures from Zaitoon because he knew that she won’t like them as well. Abba Jee chose to do something about those pictures on his own because being a grandfather, he was actually & genuinely quite concerned. I must say I laughed a lot when Zaitoon chose to go with Anila, basically trying to send Hajra a message that she is not alone, she puts her children above everyone else as well & that she is not dependant on her. It was quite funny yet sweet!
Overall, it was a very interesting & entertaining episode of Aangan. Just when I was thinking that things should progress in Zoya Aqdas track, the precap of the next episode promised just that. Things are obviously going to get more interesting when Hajra will have a misunderstanding & Aqdas will actually be asking for Zoya’s proposal. I can’t wait to see more. Loving the acting, the direction & the script of this drama so far. I must say the background music as well as the OST is amazing too. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aangan & oh I will say, I legit missed Aalu & his sarcasm in this episode, lol!
Another week, another intense and convincing episode of Shayyad which ended a little too quickly! Shayyad is turning out to be an interesting play which keeps you engaged and even though some of the cast members are clearly not the best people for the job yet it manages to hold your interest. Shayyad is the perfect drama to watch if you want to be thoroughly entertained. It has a different and unpredictable storyline and the execution is on point for the most part with the exception of the loud background score which can be overbearing and drowns out the dialogues sometimes. The pace of this show also gives it a definite edge since so far every episode has contributed something substantial to the story. Saad’s character and his track continues to be the main attraction since it isn’t very often that we see a young man’s journey translated in such a manner on screen in our dramas. The fact that the misunderstanding in this episode wasn’t stretched and in fact took the story forward deserves special mention since many of the dramas nowadays bank heavily on misunderstandings alone! It is always good watching a play which doesn’t have those run-of-the-mill scenarios.
Like every other episode of Shayyad this one too had quite a few important developments to its credit. Saad’s desperation piqued after Hani made it clear that this was the last time he was going to express his love for her in this manner. Saad’s disappointment to see dada alive said a great deal about how desperate he was. I am however glad that he had nothing to do with Salar’s accident because planning something extreme makes him human but going ahead and executing these plans would have turned him into a negative character. Even when Saad is saying those negative things and plotting the unspeakable, he comes across as desperate and immature and never as a negative person. This is the reason why even though his character isn’t perfect, it is always likeable. Saad and Hani’s confrontation in Hani’s room was intense but a little too loud. While Saad’s tone was alright, Hani was literally shouting. The scene covering Hani and Saad’s first meeting in this episode was beautifully written and directed. The additional poetry in the background is a remarkable way of showing Saad’s state of mind and adds to the intensity of these scenes.
The wedding festivities and everyone’s frame of mind during them was covered impressively. This episode also showed how Salar felt about his deceased father which makes his track even more intriguing. He definitely has a background story and a specific reason for being so controlling, selfish and cold. Hani’s outburst in the hospital and the reason behind it was the best part of this episode. Now everyone knows what is going on between Saad and Hani, I am waiting to see how Mahpara reacts to this latest development.
The preview of the next episode was interesting but it revealed a little too much since after this episode the viewers would be wondering whether Salar survived or not and if this marriage will eventually take place. Saad has more time on his hands now but it is highly unlikely that he will be able to convince his parents or Hani. Apart from some scenes in which the background score could have been toned down, rest of the episode was brilliantly directed. The script so far is logical as well as enticing. Uzair Jaswal continues to impress as Saad, Nauman Ijaz has nailed Salar’s character and majority of the supporting cast has been giving solid performances. Sadia Khan’s acting was slightly better in this episode.
How many of you watched tonight’s episode of Shayyad? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.
This episode didn’t have any charm left, all because of the preview they gave in the last episode. The offering of money by Shahram for getting Arsala married to Atif would have been such a great development if the channel had not decided to tell the viewers beforehand about it. Still, Sabir’s greed was easy to win for Shahram as he offered money to him. He didn’t even think about the society’s backlash or the daughter he knows has no manners. One mention of the cheque and he was on a mission to make everything right.
Shahram is coming out as a beautiful character. Now they have shown what the difference between love and obsession is. What Naima had was obsession where she didn’t respect her sister’s feelings and did everything to get Atif while Shahram believes in making the person you love happy by any way you could. Sabir was acting as such an obedient person before him and again cleared himself in front of everyone by reciting his old ballad of majboori. He is a clever person and knows how to get the advantage of every situation.
Atif again proved how horrible he is and that Arsala does not deserve him. Even before Sabir’s suggestion of getting Arsala married to him instead of Naima, he was having second thoughts on his Nikkah day. Naima needs to get her share of slaps but this man just surpassed her in being horrible. His mother is again being the voice of sanity and telling him that this is not practical but somehow Atif had remembered the love he had for Arsala.
The highlight of today’s episode is hands-down the exchange between Arsala and Naima. It was such a disappointment for me when Naima started to slander Arsala and all she did was going out and convincing Sabir that she wants to go back to Karachi. But finally, the moment came today when Arsala gave Naima a little reality check. It was hard to believe that a girl just keeps listening to derogatory remarks about her character. So Arsala did what a normal girl would do and showed Naima the mirror she deserved a look at.
Tauqeer Nasir has performed really well in the role of Sabir making it easily believable and Iqra Aziz has also finely brought out the cringe the viewers should feel towards Naima. Looks like Atif will also get a reality check in the next episode. Let’s see how the story unfolds further!
Pari is an upcoming Pakistani horror flick starring Qavi Khan, Rasheed Naz, Saleem Mairaj, Azaekah Daniel and Faiq Asim. The film is directed by Syed Atif Ali and to be honest the trailer looks really nice. The cinematography also looks better than many other films we have seen coming out of Pakistani cinema. But if the movie will do justice to its genre and being a big screen content as a whole? That we will find out on 2nd February 2018 when the film comes out. Here watch the trailer:
Zara Noor Abbas and Asad Siddiqui just got hitched and their reception was a really star-studded one. From the couples friends Sjal Aly, Yasir Hussain and Asim Azhar to family Bushra Ansari and Adnan Siddiqui, everyone was in attendance. Zara looked stunning while Asad also looked dapper. Here are some pictures from the ceremony:
Ohkay so, a comparatively better episode but still I am not feeling this drama like I used to. It does seem they are now showing some progress in the story but the characters are still stuck in a rut. I am looking forward to the last episode of this drama more than anything because may be, the purpose, the crux of this story will be conveyed in it & oh yes, the fact that there was no Tipu in this episode made it a whole lot better!
So, Meena asked for Qasim & Sassi didn’t seem to have any objection. It is a done deal as Sassi has made up her mind that she is not going to give Qasim any chance, that is why she didn’t seem affected with Meena’s demand.
Qasim hurt himself & that pushed Meena to further confess her feelings to him & obviously she was turned down because even though Sassi will never accept Qasim, Qasim on his own won’t be able to move on.
Sonia has lost everything & it occurred to me that may be she was facing all this because she hurt Mumtaz, but then again, I wish Khayyam had faced something too because yes, even though he is suffering by seeing Sonia in such a condition, it still hasn’t taught him a lesson & I don’t see any difference in his nature. It was amusing that he had absolutely no idea about Sassi’s film. What an ideal father I must say!
So, Sassi bagged a film & it was a biopic of Sonia Jahan, a script that Sonia told Khayyam to write for her. May be this is Wajih’s way of getting back at both Sonia & especially Khayyam by using Sassi, but whatever it is, not sure what Sassi is going to do with herself & her life. At first I really was keen to explore her character but by making her complicated the writer turned her into a one dimensional character & that is why there’s nothing more to her now!
So, Meena became Amna & indeed that entire scenario was covered beautifully but I must say, so much happened & Tipu was nowhere to even know that Meena was taking such a huge step?
Overall, it was an average episode of O Rangreza, but now when the story is almost nearing the end, I am trying to understand the purpose as it still seems a little unclear. Please share your thoughts about this episode of O Rangreza.
Pakistani music is hands down the best in the whole world. People have always been drawn to the very feel of it. But a time came when all our musicians had to reach the audience were drama OSTs since band culture was dead and the music industry was in shambles. But things have improved greatly in the past few years with 2017 being a good year for musicians. We had the opportunity to listen to our favourite musicians through drama OSTs, films, Coke Studio and we got fresh music via Pepsi Battle Of The Bands. Fresh musicians have come in the industry and the old legends have again given their fans a lot of songs to love them more. Here are some musicians who blew their fans this year with the awesome music they made:
Sahir Ali Bagga:
This guy has a magical voice and a fierce understanding of music and people’s tastes. He knows what people will love and that is the reason he rarely goes wrong. Sahir was on a roll this year. He directed some very beautiful OSTs like that of Sang e Mar Mar and the recent O Rangreza. His vocals were a part of many famous tracks too. O Rangreza is ruling the charts right now due to its magical chords and vocals. The recent rendition of the song that came out in Sajjal Aly’s voice is also getting appreciation. He sang and directed several tracks in Coke Studio this season and people loved it. His duet with Aima Baig, Baazi was loved by the audience. All in all, Sahir Ali Bagga was at the top of his game this year.
Jaffer Zaidi:
Jaffer is a well-known singer as his band Kaavish is loved by the audience. This year Coke Studio completed a decade as its tenth season went on air. But the normal level was severely lacking. Only a few songs were good enough to be played again and again and Jaffer was a part of those one way or the other. Kaavish sang Faasle with Qurutulain Baloch which was truly soulful and was the kind of music one listens to calm down the rushing nerves. Jaffer was the music director of some of the very good numbers including Ranjish Hi Sahi, Faasle, Naina Moray. All his songs this season were worth a play but remained a bit underrated, maybe because they had no eye candies in them. But Jaffer did what he had to do and it is good music.
Shuja Haider:
Shuja Haider is one of the most sought-after musicians we have. He also gave us some hits this year. The most recent one is the soundtrack of Baaghi. His music and vocals made the song outstanding and showcased the true essence of Baaghi. His songs in this year’s Coke Studio also got massive views. Some of them are Allah u Akbar, Jaan-e-Bahaaraan, Sab Maya Hai and Baanware. His music was on point and he was undoubtedly one of the most successful musicians for 2017.
Sajjad Ali:
Sajjad Ali also became a part of this year’s Coke Studio. He gave us two promising songs and a new promising singer which happens to be his daughter Zaw Ali. Zaw justified her presence in Coke Studio when she sang Ronay Na Diya alongside her father. Sajjad made that song a masterpiece and some parts of it sounded even better than the original. His other song Tera Naam for which he was not only the music director but the lyricist too was also good. Sajjad once again proved why he is still one of the most talented musicians we have in Pakistan.
Aima Baig:
Aima was known as the singer from Mazaq Raat initially but this year proved to be full of opportunities for Aima. She started off by singing Kalabaaz Dil for Lahore Se Aagey which was a hit. People liked the song more than they liked the movie. She also sang Kaif o Suroor which is another hit from the movie Na Maloom Afraad 2. The year 2017 also marked Aima’s Coke Studio Debut. She sang alongside big names as Sahir Ali Bagga, Humera Arshad and Shuja Haider. Aima undoubtedly deserves a place on this year’s list due to the work she has done.
Bilal Ali:
Pepsi Battle Of The Bands aired this year and the music industry got many talented musicians from it. The winner of this season was Kashmir and a huge credit for this win goes to their lead vocalist Bilal Ali. Bilal has a unique voice and he did justice to every song. Their songs Budha Baba and Kagaz Ka Jahaz got immense love by the audience. Bilal’s voice quality matches to that of Atif Aslam slightly. He sang soulfully every time and that got him and his band to the winning trophy.
Vais Khan:
Few musicians have the ability to attract the audience like Vais does. Most of the times when one is listening to a band, the focus always remain on the lead vocalist. But Vais was loved by the audience and the judges alike by the way he performed. He knows his craft and the tunes he played made him one of the best artists who came out of Pepsi Battle Of The Bands.
Ahmed Jilani:
Another talent we found from Pepsi Battle Of The Bands. Ahmed Jilani has powerful vocals. He along with his band created some extremely good music as they mixed rock and Sufi together. His unique voice quality even made the edginess he added to Bismillah Karaan a must listen. His band Badnaam were the runner-ups but they made a lot of fans during their journey.
Daud Ramay:
Daud is the drummer of Roots. He performed so well in some songs where nothing was going right, his beats and chops were. Judges appreciated his talent many times and he showed how a good drum playing can take a song many levels above. Daud is a very talented musician and showed his talent throughout the season. It will be worth-watching when we will see him next.
These are the top musicians for the year 2017. We had music directors, singers and the musicians who make the beats of the songs aka instrument players all shining bright this year. One great thing which Pepsi did this year was giving equal recognition to all musicians and not just the singers, which was a very good step. Do you find any other name that should be a part of this list? Go ahead and suggest in the comments section.
Cupan Chupai is a new Pakistani comedy film. The cast includes Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer, Faizan Khawaja and Rehan Sheikh among others. The film is out and it is the debut of Neelam Muneer as a lead actress in films. The director is Mohsin Ali. The premiere of the film took place in Karachi yesterday and the leads, as well as many other stars, attended. Here are some pictures:
Anoushey Ashraf is a sweetheart and is ruling our screens with her unique hosting for some years now. She has done morning shows, events and has been an integral part of award show hosting panels. The bubbly girl is entering a new phase of her life and introduced her to-be better half on her Instagram with a sweet post:
Seems like we will see Anoushey as a bride soon and she will surely make a pretty bride!
Ohkay so, not that it had any purpose when it began but still, the recent turn of events are making it look like the writer herself got confused midway as to what she was trying to prove or convey, that is why everything that has been happening now isn’t making much sense to be honest!
I think in stead of naming this drama as Teri Raza, the writer should have gone for Suhana Ki Raza, because even though everything has happened according to her wish, she still finds a way to whinge about one thing or the other! First, Suhana was unhappy with Imtiyaz, she got rid of him & got married to Rameez; now she is unhappy with him too but just because she can not admit it due to her big ego, she is now unhappy with her father for reasons best known to the writer. When Suhana got married to Rameez, she was mad at her parents that they are not concerned about her, but later when they did some gestures out of sheer concern for their daughter, she still found a reason to be mad at them? Seriously, I fancied the notion when Suhana told Imtiyaz that she should die because such an unreasonably unhappy soul would find solace that way!
Oh yes, Suhana repeatedly said that she has started to understand a few things, which obviously are related to Rameez & his attitude but then, if she is mad & unhappy, it doesn’t mean she can use her parents as punching bags because things didn’t go according as per her liking! I feel happy everytime I see Rameez mistreating her because this is what she deserves. Suhana cries about the fact that everyone thinks she is the culprit but then why doesn’t she feel bad when she blames her parents for every single thing that has gone wrong in her life?
Imtiyaz is still stuck in the past, that is why he makes sure to let Suhana know that he is still there for her. I cringe when I now see Suhana confiding in Imtiyaz as he understands her, because if that’s the case then why didn’t she develop any understanding when she was actually married to him?
It was good that Seema tried to show Suhana a mirror but then she is someone who doesn’t believe in seeing her own faults, that’s why she chose to ignore everything that Seema said. Also, it is so irritating that Suhana uses her relationship with Imtiyaz as something to boast about because in order to put Seema down, she made sure to remind her that she was once married to Imtiyaz!?!?! This girl is in literal sense messed up. Also, another thing that Suhana was unhappy about was Imtiyaz & Seema’s engagement. She reminds me of those spoiled teenagers who think the entire universe revolves around them & when their bubble is burst they throw a hissy fit & Suhana is exactly doing the same! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Teri Raza!
Mahira Khan’s Raees got into headlines a number of times before and after its release for various reasons. There was even a rumor that she will be replaced but the movie came out as planned and joined the 100 crore club as well. As the year progressed, Raees’s popularity has not died down.
The Economic Times named Raees as the most talked about Indian movie, based on hashtag volume in accordance with Twitter India. So, this Shahrukh and Mahira Khan starrer keeps on shining long after its release.
Arth – The Final Destination (or Arth 2) is the remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s film Arth, a 1982 Indian film which even today is considered a classic for its groundbreaking storyline and powerful performances. This film therefore had big shoes to fill and I must say that Shaan Shahid deserves full credit for not only doing complete justice to this remake in all departments but also giving this classic a brand new identity. Arth 2 can easily be termed as a better and improved version of the original film because Shaan successfully managed to focus on that one character which I felt did not get the attention it truly deserved in the original version while keeping the essence of the original story and characters intact. Raj’s character in the original film was one of the most likeable characters but his journey wasn’t covered as beautifully in the original version of the film as it has been in this remake. The clarity with which Arth 2 has been executed reflects in every single scene; the characters are brilliantly etched-out and the riveting performances coupled with seamless direction and editing make this film a must-watch.
Arth 2 is essentially the story of two individuals who are lost and find their respective destinations in places where they weren’t even looking. The film has a strong message which is in line with its title but is different from the original film. Unlike many other recent Pakistani films, Arth 2 does not try to achieve too much but it stays true to its primary subject which is why it is a clear winner. Shaan Shahid essays the role of a singer (Ali) who loses his fan base as well as his career when he moves abroad. Shaan Shahid breathes life into this beautiful character almost effortlessly which is why you cannot help but feel and root for him every step of the way. Uzma Hassan plays the role of a housewife who also happens to be Ali’s biggest fan. The journeys of both these characters have been told in such a manner that you feel an instant connection with them right from the get-go. Uzma Hassan gives a phenomenal performance throughout; she owns her character completely all through the ups and downs. Humaima Malick and Mohib Mirza’s performances are equally impressive although there are times when you feel that Humaima Malick’s character gets more screen time than needed and it has also been over-sexualized. With this film Humaima Malick proves that she is perfectly capable of giving a solid performance therefore there was absolutely no need to focus on her sexuality so much.
This movie also has some beautifully composed songs to its credit with lyrics which gel in perfectly with different situations. Every song represents a specific point in a character’s journey therefore these songs are not just enjoyable but also unforgettable. Arth 2 is a complete package, a film which you can watch over and over again. It has an amazing screenplay, brilliant performances and it has been shot beautifully. The only disappointing aspect of the film is that the dialogues are mostly in English, there are many times when you want these beautiful characters and those wonderful actors speaking Urdu. That is the only reason why I gave this film 4 stars. I hope that the next time Shaan Shahid decides to make a film as beautiful and compelling as this one, he writes the dialogues in Urdu.
A beautiful addition was made to Pakistani drama history when Hashim Nadeem’s Khuda Aur Mohabbat aired on television and people fell in love with the leads Imran Abbas Naqvi and Sadia Khan. Every Character of this drama left a mark on the audiences. Now Imran has shared a picture with his fans which is undoubtedly a very happy news for Khuda Aur Mohabbat fans. The season 3 of this fabulous drama is in works and if we are to believe Imran, this would be the best story so far. The story will be entirely new so maybe this season will not be a continuation of the previous one. Here is the script being read by Imran:

The iconic poet educated in Urdu, Persian and Arabic was celebrated by google with its new doodle on his 220nd birthday. It shows a poetic figure gazing out into the pink skies with his pen and paper, while minarets peek out in the distances placing the landscape somewhere in Delhi that was home to Ghalib for most of his life.
This google doodle commemrates the man who weaved eternal magic with his words. Not having a source of income himself and depending on gifts and contributions from family and friends and the royal patronage, Ghalib was focused on poetry for all of his 71 years. His house Ghalib Ki Haveli in Chandni Chowk of Old Delhi has been converted into a museum filled with his prose and verses.

There are some celebrities who become style icons for their fans and audiences with their ability to try different looks and styles and carry them with ease. It is one thing to look good in a drama and totally another to look beautiful in every avatar on and off the screen. Some actors and actresses have the knack of making every attire look as if it is custom made for them. 2017 has seen quite a lot of them and here are some of the most prominent stylish celebrities of the year.
MawraHocane
Mawra has earned quite a name for herself this year not only for acting well but also for appearing stylish on her social media accounts in both Eastern and Western wear. From wearing on trend shalwar kameez to sporting skinny jeans and dresses, Mawra always has the perfect accessories and attitude for every look.
AyeshaOmar
Ayesha Omar is famous for looking far younger than her thirty five years. Her skin care and style tips are some of the most sought after in Pakistan. The most amazing thing about her is that she manages to glow like this without any surgeries or over the top makeup. Part of the popularity that her drama serial “Bulbulay” received was because of Khoobsurat’s clothes and hairstyles that made her look true to the name which made her famous.
ImranAbbas
This handsome hero has made many fans and followers crazy with his dapper looks and romantic acting. He is always styled to perfection and looks great when he appears rugged. This year he has been looking especially good in his dramas as well as on all the tours and trips he made. He is essentially a combination of very good looks groomed to perfection with an impeccable sense of style.
MehwishHayat
It is not easy to beat Mehwish Hayat when it comes to beauty and style. She is extremely sharp, confident and carries herself with ease. She is probably the best example of a perfectly flawless facial modification by plastic surgery and her personality never fails to match it. While having a very western outlook in general, Mehwish is also able to carry simple eastern wear of a small town girl with absolute ease. She was the show stopper this year in all her public appearances especially those before the release of mega block buster “Punjab Nahi Jaungi”.
MiraSethi
Mira Sethi is probably one the most intelligent celebrities we have around. Her looks and style also depict her personality well and you will never see her falling for trends mindlessly. Rather she is very selective in her personal style and carries designer bags and shoes in a very classy manner. Her looks are modern, minimalistic and very original. From pastel blouses and muted makeup to full glamour mode, Mira Sethi looks her fabulous self in each one of them.
AliZafar
Ali Zafar looks far younger than his thirty eight year and looks stylish in everything from tuxedos to jeans to open shirts to traditional kurta shalwar. Everything he wears seem custom made for him. His gentle mannerisms, deep voice and handsome looks never fail to mesmerize. From the glamorous attires of Coke Studio to a plain shalwar kameez while spending a weekend in orphanage, Ali Zafar always impresses with his personal style.
SyraShehroz
This young mom is a style icon for many young women around here who look up to her and admire the ease and confidence with which Syra carries her bubbly personality and easy going demeanor in everything she wears. Her hair colour also keeps on changing, so do her highlights and low-lights.

Her red carpet looks are particularly beautiful where she is mostly seen donning long embellished costumes and fancy hairdos.
Let us know if you can think of any other star or diva who impressed you with their style and grace this year.
Ohkay so, it was a decent episode of Khudgarz, but I will say that the precap of the next episode seemed more interesting. This time around, they tried to give an insight into the characters a bit more & took the story forward but again, even though the direction & the acting was spot on, I didn’t find anything new that as I was actually looking for!
Junaid & Aairah were trying to get on with their lives, seperately & together as well but deep inside, they both were hurt & unsure of what they are supposed to do because they both know that they have no way out of this relationship. Aairah did her best by forming a relationship with Salma, her mother in law & she then started getting to know more about Junaid, like his habits, his nature & his personality, which was good. The way Junaid started taking care of Aairah’s belongings was basically something that he did due to his routine but it was a gesture enough to show her that she was a part of the family as well. Junaid also saved Aairah from Hassan’s mistreatment which then gave her a chance to think about him & have a little idea about how courteous he was!
Junaid obviously was depressed too because he is someone who keeps his emotions bottled up & the only person who meant everything to him was Rabeea & sadly, he can’t be with her now. Salma could see that Junaid was struggling but even she knew that nothing could be done about it. It was good to see that Junaid confided in Inayat, that’s why he was feeling for him as well.
Hassan chose to do everything to tease & torture everyone. From his father to his mother to Junaid to even Aairah, Hassan made sure that they get the message loud & clear that he is not letting anyone off the hook because he still feels insulted. Hassan knows that Junaid is someone who will never face him, that is why he continued pestering him. The good part was that Hassan’s assumptions were put to rest when Aairah spoke up because he thought she’d surrender like everyone else but Aairah told him that she is not going to take anything from him as firstly, she is not guilty & secondly, she is too strong to let anyone walk all over her!
Abeer continued to plead & beg in front of Hassan, which again was an ego boost for him. It is surprising that the same Abeer who does so well for herself in her professional life & who stood up to her step father as she could very well decipher his intentions, chooses to be blind when it comes to Hassan & his mistakes. Abeer is a depiction of such people who go to any extreme to prove their love because they are too afraid of being left alone. Since Abeer knows that she can’t be with her mother because of her step father, she allows Hassan to mistreat her as it still makes her feel secured. Even though Abeer has a few reasonable & valid demands like being known to his family as his wife & being with them, she suppresses it only due to her fear of driving Hassan away from herself. It was quite interesting to see a different kind of Abeer when she came across her step father, it showed that she can speak for herself that is why it is hard to accept that she lets Hassan treat her like a doormat!
Raheel chose to interfere in Abeer’s life because he actually assumed he was saving her from some guy who was trying to hurt her but then he was shocked when he found out that Abeer was married to Hassan. Raheel loves Abeer but now that he knows about her marital status, he will definitely draw a line but I do feel he will continue with his support as he can already see that Abeer is being exploited because the first interaction that he had with Hassan told Raheel a great deal about him!
I feel Hassan’s parents’ are the reason why he is like that & they have played a major role in making him so stubborn because they allowed & still allow him to walk over them & everyone. Even now when Hassan left the house after he had a spat with Aairah, his parents were worried for him? No one dares to confront him or boycott him because of which Hassan feels he can have his way every single time!
Hassan very well knows that he is Abeer’s weakness, that is why he exploits her to the max. Abeer also is at fault to have made Hasaan feel that she is nothing without him & has no self-worth.
Overall, it was a decent episode but the fact that Abeer will seek Aairah’s help in the upcoming episode definitely gave me a reason to tune to it. However, the focus on Junaid & Aairah’s divorce is off putting, like to see it coming from the father was shocking because he got them married for face saving so how won’t their divorce take away his izzat from him, for which he got them married in the first place? I must say Yasir Nawaz extracted some real acting out of all these actors but I think out of sheer courtesy he chose not to direct the senior actors, that is why their acting seems off & forced. I wish the dialogues were a bit better worded because most of the times they sound too unreal & even the actors seemed to be struggling to deliver them. Amina Sheikh, Mansha Pasha & Sami Khan have outdone themselves & Syed Jibran has been successful in evoking sympathy for Junaid’s character. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khudgarz.
This had to be the best episode of Dar Si Jati Hei Sila so far since it didn’t only have quite a few interesting developments to its credit but these developments also indicated that there might be some hope for Sila after all. The recent changes in Zaini and Raheel’s characters have changed the overall feel of the play, it was too dark and depressing before but now these characters have added some positivity to the story. This episode was also well paced, brilliantly written and directed and all the performances were impressive. All the actors have translated their characters impeccably on screen and the attention to detail makes you forget that you are watching a drama. Dar Si Jati Hei Sila has to be one of those very few dramas nowadays which address a serious topic in a way which is appropriate. The script is well thought out and therefore effective. After watching this particular episode, I am more interested in finding out how the story unfolds in the future.
Tonight’s episode opened with Sila trying to untangle a skein of yarn while Bari Aapa kept on “distracting” her by complaining about her mother and sharing details of her mother’s callous behavior which had resulted in her husband distancing himself from her. Bari Aapa is one of those women who are convinced that even if a man does something dreadfully wrong, it has to be a woman’s fault in some way or the other. The way Raheel came to Sila’s rescue showed the roles both these characters were playing in Sila’s life. While Bari Aapa was constantly adding to Sila’s troubles, Raheel had now realized that he was in a position to help Sila and he wasn’t going to let anyone stop him. Not very long ago, Raheel too judged Sila the way everyone else does but when Zaini made him understand Sila’s position in the house and educated him about the role they could play in this situation, he changed completely. Zaini used the influence she exercises on him in a positive manner which has to be the most refreshing development so far. Sakina Samo’s acting has been brilliant throughout, the way she delivers the dialogues and her gestures show how controlling she is. Her character is etched-out brilliantly as well, she has her favorites and no matter what happens she will continue supporting them.
Once again Joi’s attitude towards Sadia in front of Sikandar and his dialogues showed how he has managed to fool him for all these years. Just like Bari Aapa Sikandar too always looks down upon Sadia and has a very high opinion of Joi. He doesn’t think Sadia deserves so much respect and feels that Joi can protect his wife and daughter while he is away. The fact is that Sikandar doesn’t even care about Sadia and Sila therefore shifting the responsibility to Joi’s shoulders is the easy way out. Zaini’s character and the manner in which she took a stand for Sila more than once was the highlight of the episode. Zaini uses her confidence and outspoken nature to help Sila in her own way instead of belittling her the way Bari Aapa does. Zaini’s honesty is the best part of her character.
Raheel’s mother’s conversation with him while he looked out of the window was one of the many conversations tonight showing how no one had any idea about what kind of a person Joi really was. This scene also indicated that Raheel might sooner or later find out what is going on but there are also chances that he might misinterpret the situation the way Sila has been doing. My favorite scene from tonight’s episode was the one in which Sila cleans her table and looks at herself in the mirror, it showed that she liked Raheel and for the first time there was something she was excited about and was looking forward to. So far everything is going exactly the way Joi has planned, he is constantly devising new ways to torture Sadia. The preview of the next episode was enticing, I am looking forward to finding out how Zaini and Raheel will stop this marriage from taking place.
Amna Malik, Yumna Zaidi and Osama Tahir have nailed their respective performances. Nauman Ijaz and Saman Ansari’s phenomenal performances make you forget every other role they have played so far. Dar Jati Hei Sila has a lot going for it and is a must-watch for all those viewers who want to watch a serious drama with a solid storyline, brilliant direction and flawless performances.
December was expected to play an important role in Pakistani cinema scene as most anticipated films of the year both Rangreza and Arth-The Destination were to hit the big screen this month as they did but the results weren’t as pleasing as everyone would have liked them to be.
Reports indicate that the turn up for both movies lied between 18-40% and neither of the films got raving reviews from any of the critics, over all the public reviews have been mixed as well.
As the expectations shattered veteran actor Shaan Shahid who helmed Arth-the destination lashed out on the negative reviews.
Albeit the post has now been removed from Shaan Shahid’s facebook but the screen shots are still revolving around social media.
Ali Gul Pir took to his twitter and tweeted his opinion on how artists should be more focused on the art than the reviews and later claimed that the tweet wasn’t directed at Shaan, he said,
“Our so-called artists need to grow up. Ever heard of Meryl Streep or Christian Bale bitching about critics on their social media. No because they believe in their art and don’t care about others. Unlike our celebs who haven’t even done half as good work but act like they invented film form,”
Our so called artists need to grow up. Ever heard of Meryl Streep or Christian Bale bitching abt critics on their social media. No cuz they believe in their art n don't care abt others. Unlike our celebs who havnt even done half as good work but act like they invented film form
“And with all due respect, I will not compare you to any artists anywhere because I can’t find a suitable comparison anywhere. I hope you understand. “We are grown-ups but not for lies. And the choice of words is loathed with arsenic, hate and disrespect. It’s time we strike back at not criticism but lack of knowledge.”
We are grown ups but not for lies . And the choice of words are loathed with arsenic ,hate and disrespect. It’s time we strike back at not criticism but lack of knowledge. The film is 2hrs13min and in the reviews 3 hrs misinforming the audience
He even pointed that ‘critics’ were misinforming the audience that the film is three hours in duration when it’s actually two hours and 13 minutes.
Twitter aside, on his personal Facebook account, Shaan even shared a public post appreciating those who supported him in making the film. “Thank you to all the loved ones for their support in making Arth a success, the people of Pakistan I’m always humbled by their love,” he wrote.
In his Facebook post, the star called his “haters” out too. “To all the haters who are trying so hard to write and spread negativity, if you guys understood the film techniques, you would be making films and I would be writing columns in the newspapers,” he wrote. “A film has its own flight, a flight of belief on the hard work, prayers, and the love of the people who don’t have access to write but to see and enjoy the film.”
He concluded the post, saying, “Croak as much as you can with your hate words and analysis. It helps us rise above. But seriously I wish you had a better job. Losers.”

Shakir passed away in a car accident in Islamabad on a rainy winter morning December 26, 1994. She was 42 at the time but her words shall remain with us till the end of time.
Ohkay so, it was again a pretty decent episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan. It can be seen that things are being wrapped up & that actually makes me look forward to the remaining episodes of this drama!
Seriously, it wouldn’t be Nazneen if she doesn’t display her selfishness. It is actually quite shocking that after going through so much & knowing that she was the root cause of all the problems, Nazneen chooses not to realize that she needs to change. The way she spoke to Taimur’s mother reminded me of the way she used to treat Basit’s mother too. In spite of being thankful that Taimur’s family gave her a shelter when she needed, she chose to misbehave with his mother. I really want to see what her end will be because at this point, she seriously deserves a misfortune!
Well, I had a feeling that something wrong will happen with Arsalan & Shaheer would do it & that’s what happened in this episode. I must say, this entitre track has been full of flaws because Zimmal told Arsalan that they’d keep their marriage a secret & there she was distributing her wedding cards to her batchmates & discussing their dress fittings in the university too!?!?!
Well, Basit’s prayer made me feel for him a lot. Seriously he has been the one who lost everything especially his parents. He really suffered a lot because he fell in a trap of a girl like Nazneen, who literally took everything away from him. I liked the conversation between Shahzeb & Basit, good that they came to a closure but that entire scene would have made more impact if it would’ve been shot as a single scene with both the actors in one frame because it was too obvious that they were at different locations & then it was edited to make it look like one scene! Also, please don’t tell me Basit is going to end up with Roshni because that Fakir also hinted that he should give love another chance & Roshni seemed to be making a pass at him, if that happens it would be a mismatch with Basit being way out of Roshni’s league. It would definitely be a forced love angle I believe!
So, Rani was faced with her past once again but good that she has Shammo’s support. It felt good to see that Shammo worked all his way up to the point where he can now give shelter to Rani, something that he promised her when he would earn a few bucks by dancing at random weddings. This aspect was nicely covered too & good that Shammo achieved what he dreamt of.
Overall, it was a good episode & I have a feeling this drama will end on a decent note too. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.
The recently engaged couple Asad Siddiqui and Zara Noor Abbas is finally getting hitched. The festivities have started with a dholki and many friends of the couple including Asim Azhar, Yasir Hussain, Saboor Aly as well as family members were seen at the event. Zara looked pretty in her attire. Here are the pictures:
Sadaf Kanwal is one of the most sought-after models of our industry at this point. Starting from Miss Veet, she later proved her mettle in every field of modelling becoming the top choice for all designers and starring in a number of advertisement campaigns. She has also stepped into acting with Balu Mahi and also performed a dance number in Na Maloom Afraad 2. Sadaf has always been very discreet about her personal life but recently she posted a picture with the caption Mr Right and social media was set on fire.
She later removed the picture but nonetheless, the couple looks beautiful!
The age of social media keeps the people in media industry close to the general public at all times. From what they wore to what the ate, everything becomes part of the daily news. Controversies are a part of showbiz industry. Though stars always want to be clean and clear in front of the public due to paparazzi surrounding as well as the amount of interest in their personal lives lands them in trouble every now and then. Some actors actually create controversies to remain relevant. Every year we witness stuff goes on; some intentional and some non-intentional. The year 2017 also saw its share of strange controversies surrounding celebrities and some of them turned really ugly due to the amount of attention they got. From start to the end, here are the ones which got the most hype and some are still relevant:
Neelam Muneer’s Personal Video Leaked:
Internet went crazy when a video of Neelum Muneer dancing in her own car leaked. She was obviously with some friend and maybe that friend leaked it intentionally or it got out by accident but people were there to discuss everything from the song being played to her dance moves. She was wearing a white eastern attire and was visibly having fun with friends but the video made great controversy and she sure came under heavy fire.
Syra and Alishba Got Candid On HSY’s Show:
HSY’s show is the only celebrity show in Pakistan right now or you can say a true celebrity show. This season was much better than the last ones since the host tried to get things out of his guests. Many show off statements were made and all the celebs had something to say on one topic or another but Yousuf sisters stole the limelight. They not only had fun in the show but targeted every second actor/actress from the industry. Calling mega stars overrated to actresses alleged cosmetic surgeries; they spoke about each and everything.
Veena Malik And Asad Khattak Divorce Drama:
When the world thought of Veena Malik and Asad Khattak as the perfect couple with love in their home and their two beautiful kids, the couple gave a glance of an ugly truth about their relationship in front of the media. Veena wanted a divorce from Asad while Asad wanted their relationship to work. They went on different shows where they were called to put out their stories and reconcile. According to Veena, she was mistreated by Asad and he didn’t even take the financial responsibility of the family and Asad was just sorry while Veena was not willing to forgive. Finally, the couple reconciled on Waseem Bdami’s 11th Hour due to counselling by Maulana Tariq Jameel. They gave their relationship a second chance and both seem happy now.
Saba Qamar boycotted LSAs:
Saba Qamar made her Bollywood debut this year. Her movie Hindi Medium grossed more than 100 crores at the box office and people were praising her performance on both sides of the border. Suddenly after working so many years in the industry and giving a lot of convincing performances, she started getting the acknowledgement she never had before despite performing beautifully. She won nominations at the Lux Style Awards and people were taking them very seriously. But Saba being the outspoken person she is boycotted the nominations and the show and said that she has not done brilliantly the first time. She said that she has been working for a decade now and people are suddenly going gaga over her just because of the BOLLYWOOD STAMP! She openly questioned the credibility of the show. Later the host Osman Khalid Butt also made a joke on her boycotting the award show. Later in the year more actors also expressed concerns about the credibility of our award shows. But senior actress as Saba boycotting the biggest award show of the country made quite a news.
Sahir Lodhi Bashed A Girl During Ramadan Transmission:
Sahir Lodhi hosted a Ramadan transmission this year. Like all other transmissions, he also had debate competition and the likes on his show. A girl named Saba Rizwan also participated in the competition and while she was doing her speech, Sahir suddenly stopped her in a very dramatic way. He didn’t even listen to the full context and started shouting in extreme patriotism as what he termed his behaviour as. Saba later released a video in which she read the whole speech and people knew what she was actually going to say. Sahir was served with notices for the incident. The things went even uglier because during his patriotic outrage Sahir unconsciously gave a disrespecting statement about Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. As always Sahir later apologized for the whole scenario.
Amir Khan and Faryal Makhdoom Drama:
Amir Khan and Faryal Makhdoom remain in news for not so good reasons. Previously it used to be a spat between Faryal and Amir’s parents. But this time the couple had a falling out themselves and that too on twitter. They accused each other of infidelity and cheating and Amir called for a divorce. Later Faryal said that their social media is hacked but Amir clarified that nothing was hacked. The controversy went from apologizing to Amir’s family to Amir having a new girlfriend and then Faryal claimed that she was pregnant. Amir assured her of taking responsibility for his daughter and the other child if there was one in his words but they both were going through a divorce. Faryal was recently seen holding a picture of her ultrasound too. The most disturbing thing about this controversy: All this happened on social media!
Mahira Khan’s Leaked Pictures:
This was the biggest controversy of 2017. Mahira Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were caught by hidden paparazzi while they were smoking outside a hotel in NYC. People were talking about everywhere with many criticizing Mahira for her smoking, her dress as well as Ranbir’s presence. Her fans and celebrities supported her during this time though she herself didn’t respond to any speculations. Earlier speculations were made about both of them dating when they met at an event in Dubai.
These were the shocking controversies that happened in 2017. Social media and news feeds were full of these stories with millions giving their opinions. Fans defended their favourite celebs in some cases while other just became a topic for laughter and bashing. The controversies are a kind of excitement we wish do not come up to us. We wish 2018 would be a peaceful year and filled with great entertainment and yes LESS DRAMATIC too!
It is a heartfelt desire of every Muslim to perform Hajj and Umrah and every one of us tries to go to our Holy places. After completing his shooting spell in Turkey, actor Ahmed Ali Butt is also off to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. He shared some pictures while travelling to the place every one desires to see. He got a picture clicked in front of the famous clock tower too.
Umrah Mubarak to Ahmed and may all Muslims get this opportunity to visit the Holy Kabah!
Sanam Jung is one of the most beautiful host/actress of Pakistan Entertainment Industry. She has ruled the hearts of her fans from her first appearance in Dil e Muztar opposite Imran Abbas. Sanam’s wedding pictures also took the fans by storm because Sanam looked ethereal in all her wedding functions. Last year, Sanam became a mother when she gave birth to beautiful Alaya and along with a bunch of responsibilities that come with motherhood, also came some post-pregnancy weight. Though Sanam looked extremely beautiful, many people criticized her for not losing the weight immediately. But Sanam has really worked hard in the past year and has lost a whopping 17.5 kilograms. We as a society have to learn that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and a huge appreciation for this amazing transformation for Sanam Jung!
Maya Ali always looks beautiful and acts amazingly by as well. She is one of the few actresses of today who are still mostly natural and untouched surgically in their appearances. So if you need any inspiration for this back to back weddings’ season, Maya Ali is the person you should observe. She attended her friend’s dholki in an all black panelled and embroidered long shirt in gold with black and gold printed trousers and amazingly the combination looked great with a mustardy gold shawl draped to one side.
A gold clutch and fancy khusaas completed the look which she kept very youthful with blow dried hair, black lined eyes and nude lipstick.
As December nears its end, there are many things that brighten up the cold days. One of these is the Christmas Eve which was celebrated in Pakistan with a lot of festivities. Our celebrities also enjoyed themselves with family and friends and shared glimpses of their day on social media accounts.

So this episode took us from scene to scene but there was no further development in the story. Absolutely none. It was evident that Mir Hadi had fallen for Khaani but where do we go from here? And there were also a few big loopholes in the episode yesterday.
Firstly, lame attempt at killing Khaani by Mir Shah lacked conviction. Why would he, who in his own words comes from a family where they have been killing people for their own reasons for generations, hire an old inexperienced van driver who thought just hitting someone and making them fall down is enough for their death? Secondly, Mir Hadi was so concerned about her and genuinely believes that he loves her but he has not shown an ounce of regret at killing her brother yet. Unless he feels guilty at what he has done , you cannot believe that he has turned over a new life and the place to do that was before he was so actively pursuing Khaani. From his character development till now, he just seems an obsessive spoilt brat.
Khaani is a relatively sane factor in the story but an intelligent woman like her should have been able to guess who is behind all these anonymous gifts and flowers, but maybe she is too preoccupied with her family’s problems to guess her unnamed lover, which is understandable. Her father is quite upset at being paralyzed and her mother has to give up her life in order to care for him which is taking quite a toll on their household. She has arranged treatment for her father and is also fulfilling her younger sisters’ material wishes.
One thing that annoyingly stood out is the title now where Sana and Feroz are riding a bicycle lovingly. A drama that started with bloodshed cannot just so soon change into a romantic saga, seems very unreal. Hadi looks downright creepy especially in that scene when he went to check on her when she and her sisters are sleeping and staring at her in the bed. I totally failed to see that as romantic and then you see both of them on a love ride.
There are some credits to the play as well. The plot is unusual and depicts some seriously harsh realities which is good, but there is need for a slightly more realistic screenplay. Feroz Khan is doing a good job as the bad guy in the drama, who is very badly brought up and that makes him apathetic and oblivious to anyone else’s feelings except his own, but when he is promoted as the protagonist is where the plot lacks definition. Mehmood Aslam is also great as the ferocious and powerful Mir Shah. Khaani’s parents are also looking very natural and relatable as they fight their battles bravely.
I hope next episode will bring some pace to the story.
Writer: Akhtar Qayyum
Director: Amir Mohiuddin
Producer: Vision Art Films, MH Films and Malkani Films
Cast: Urwa Hocane, Bilal Ashraf, Goher Rasheed, Ghana Ali, Alyzeh Gabol, Seemi Pasha, Saba Faisal, Saleem Mairaj & others.
Rangreza is essentially a love story and like many other love stories which we have seen on the silver screen lately, this film too has a few social messages as well but unlike some other films which excelled in highlighting these messages while keeping the viewers interested and engaged, Rangreza falls short on many levels. The film is overcrowded with characters you feel absolutely nothing for and the love story doesn’t even start until after the interval. There is a lot of focus on the side characters who have nothing exciting to offer with the exception of Waseem Wallay played brilliantly by Goher Rasheed. Although the character itself is one-dimensional but the energy with which Goher Rasheed has translated it on screen makes it the only performance which stays with you.
Bilal Ashraf plays Ali Zain’s role in the film, he is a famous singer who falls in love with Reshmi (Urwa Hocane) who belongs to a Qawwal family. The family ties and backgrounds of both these characters are just as unappealing as the characters themselves. Bilal Ashraf’s performance is just as plain and forgettable as his character and Urwa Hocane too doesn’t get a chance to showcase her acting skills. Although there is zero on screen chemistry between the leads but it is also a fact that the screenplay is such that it does not even explore the relationship these two share. Ghana Ali gets a lot more screen time than she deserves just like many other supporting characters. Alyzeh Gabol’s cameo in the film is pointless to say the least! Saba Faisal gives a decent performance in the film although her character too doesn’t have a lot to offer.
Watching this film was like watching an average episode of a drama which doesn’t have a solid storyline and is badly executed. The film does not even have the edge of being visually pleasing and it doesn’t have a single well choreographed song to its credit. Urwa Hocane proved that she can dance really well in Punjab Nahi Jaungi but the director and the choreographer failed to make the most of her ability to do so. The most disappointing aspect of the film is that the leading pair is hardly seen together in a romantic setting. Rangreza has the most unimpressive cinematography and overall it has an artificial feel to it which is why you feel completely disconnected from the happenings all through the film. The dialogues are just as plain as the characters and the story and there are also scenes in which the dialogues don’t even make sense. Overall the film is a big “yeh shadi nahi ho sakti scenario” which leaves a lot to be desired and literally puts you to sleep. Unfortunately such films are the reason why the cinema-goers think twice before watching a Pakistani film!
