News of eight-year-old Asifa Bano’s rape has taken India by storm. The girl had gone missing in early January 2018 and was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Hiranagar tehsil of Hindu-dominated Kathua district, initial reports suggested.

While the case is still undergoing, Indian celebrities such as Sania Mirza, have come forth to express their disgust over the incident. However, one Twitter user slammed Sania for being a “non-Indian”.

Sania Mirza had initially tweeted,

“Is this really the kind of country we we want to be known as to the world today ?? If we can’t stand up now for this 8 year old girl regardless of our gender,caste,colour or religion then we don’t stand for anything in this world.. not even humanity.. makes me sick to the stomach”

She further added,

To which Twitter user Kichu Kannan Namo, who describes himself as a nationalist and a social media coordinator for Indian political party BJP, replied:

Sania held nothing back and slammed the man right there and then by saying,

Other celebrities including Riteish Deshmukh, Farhan Akhtar and Sophie Chaudry have also come forth and expressed their discomfort on the rape of an eight-year-old girl.

According to an annual study compiled by YouGov Malala Yousafzai and Imran Khan have made it to a list of the World’s Most Admired People of 2018. The Nobel Prize laureate and PTI chairman made it to top 20 of the men and women lists.

Chosen as a result of online interviews in which more than 37,000 people, from 35 countries participated, the list includes 20 men and 20 women.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Hollywood Queen Angelina Jolie landed on top of the  list.

Former US president Barack Obama, actor Jackie Chan and Chinese president Xi Jinping follow Gates in the top 20 men. Meanwhile, on the women’s list, Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey secured the second and third place respectively.

Bollywood actors such as Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were among those featured. Emma Watson and Gal Gadot and singers Taylor Swift and Madonna, were also in top 20.

The male list was full of men from different political, business and sporting backgrounds. It included Elon Musk, Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Warren Buffet and David Beckham.

Indian PM Narendra Modi was amongst other politicians featured, as were US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Erdogan.

Whole Pakistani social media is in an outrage since the news of Sanam Baloch’s divorce broke out. Sanam changed her name on Instagram from Sanam Abdullah to Sanam Baloch Hisbani yesterday. Abdullah who used to come on her show is absent for some time now and he is also missing from Sanam’s social media. All these things combined caused speculations of their divorce.

Sanam’s spokesperson finally puts all the rumours to rest as he said that all this was caused due to Sanam’s changed name on Instagram. She has done that to cast more limelight to her surname and cast and all the divorce rumours are fake.

Sanam has not commented on the situation herself yet but we wish the couple remains together and safe from all rumours!

Patari is the leading music streaming platform in Pakistan. Things got sour when a lady accused the CEO of Patari Khalid Bajwa of harassment. After her, another girl came out and shared her story of a similar experience. Khalid Bajwa has stepped down from his position and Patari is assuring people of an investigation. Motorcycle girl is due to release on 20th April 2018. The film is based on the story of Zenith Irfan, a girl who travelled North on a bike all by herself in order to fulfil her father’s wish. The first song of the movie is out and since the film is based on a road trip, this song goes perfectly with the theme. Political tension between Pakistan and India is not going away anytime soon but Nandita Das and some other B-Town names didn’t think that is something that should hold them back from attending Pakistan International Film Festival.

Nandita, along with over 20 other Indians, participated at the Pakistan International Film Festival (PiFF) in Karachi.

She opened up about her visit to Pakistan and said,

“Mumbai to Karachi is an hour’s journey, but has no direct flights because of the tense relations that have only worsened in recent times. For us to fly to each other’s country, we have to go via Dubai. Moreover, we only get restricted city-visas that are not valid not for the whole country,”

On being called anti-national for visiting Pakistan she said,

“I have come back fully knowing that all that warmth, delicious food and affection that we all got, will quickly fade as the trolls begin to call us anti-national and media will question our intent.”

She further continued,

“While it may be true that the Pakistan government has harboured or at the very least is soft on terrorists, their own people have suffered grievously from this. Is vilifying the people of another country the only way to feel nationalistic?”

She went on to add,

“Is my love for my country proportionate to how much I can hate another country? Yes, there are some real and some imagined conflicts that we all are locked in. But while that reality – history, geopolitics, and terrorism – is unlikely to change anytime soon, I still believe that small bridges could and should be built. And perhaps one day these small efforts will create a more peaceful and saner world.”

This wasn’t her first visit to Pakistan. The actor, who has earlier featured in the Pakistani film Ramchand Pakistani, recounted,

“The last time I went to Karachi was nine years ago along with the first film I directed, Firaaq, to the Kara Film Festival. That festival which has been unfortunately discontinued was organised by a bunch of young film-makers.”

Singing praises for the mastermind behind PiFF, Nandita mentioned,

“The force behind this new venture is Sultana Siddiqui, a feisty woman who, with very limited resources and time, put this festival together.”

She revealed there was a lot of discussion on Indian cinema’s contribution to Pakistan at the festival.

“Both Indian and Pakistani film fraternities came together on various panels to explore ways in which we could collaborate and issues of common interest like the shrinking space for independent cinema and how to navigate through the different genres of films.”

Designer Amir Adnan will “create awareness about the deaf community” as he showcases his collection at Fashion Pakistan Week (FPW) Spring/Summer 2018 in Karachi.

The designer will have two segments as he showcases his collection on the first day of FPW which is being held on April 10 and 11.

In Adnan’s first segment, six models who are part of the JS Academy for the Deaf will walk the runway wearing clothes from the designer’s When in Karachi series.

The segment will be headed by Adnan’s head designer, who is also hearing-impaired and a graduate of the JS Academy for the Deaf.

Adnan’s daughter Parishae stated,

“The purpose of the show is to create awareness of the hearing impaired community,”

She continued stating that the aim of the segment is not to show to people that “deaf model can model too”,

“The senior most designer of the brand is hearing impaired and his work is outstanding and that’s what we want to show.”

The House of Amir Adnan said in a statement,

“The purpose of this show is to create awareness about the deaf community and symbolise that it does not matter if it is fashion or modelling or any other field, having a hearing impairment does not mean that you should not chase your dreams,”

The models while walking down the runway will use universal sign language to say “Deaf can do anything”.

Apart from the first segment, Amir’s second segment will be showcasing a environmentally conscious collection featuring ‘upcycled’ vintage Sherwanis.

Fifteen designers will showcase their collections at this year’s event.

In a country where life of a transgender is as hard as imaginable Kami Sid has made it from fashion shoots to short films. Produced by Rizvilia Productions, Rani is a short film about a transgender Pakistani woman who sets out to take care of an abandoned baby. The story also tackles social issues currently prevalent in the world.

Kami recently announced on Instagram that her short film, Rani, had made it to an international film festival.

Speaking of her recent venture on her social media handle, Kami said,

“Super excited to finally announce that Rani will premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival.”

The film will be premiered at the festival on April 30, 2018.

China has a quota on the number of overseas movies that can be screened in the country each year. However, Indian films are finding increased presence there. Latest addition to the list is Saba Qamar and Irrfan Khan starrer ‘Hindi Medium’. This satire on education system is entirely content driven and deservingly so has already made $3.68 million on its opening day. Therefore, emerging as the second biggest Bollywood opener in the country after Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar.

The film, backed by T-Series and Maddock Films, released in China on April, 4 2018. Producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series also said in a statement,

“Hindi Medium is content-driven. There’s a unique twist in this tale.”

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted,

Our hearts bleed on the atrocities our Kashmiri brethren are bearing at the hands of the Indian army. Kashmir bled and no one uttered a word. United Nations or the so called flag bearers of peace are nowhere to be seen. Shahid Afridi pointed it out and questioned this cruelty on twitter.
