Aangan Episode 23 Review – Interesting!

Ohkay so, this was yet another interesting & entertaining episode of Aangan where it focused on another set of issue which a family is faced with when a baby is born.

Laila has left no stone unturned in letting everyone know that she is owning her baby & literally everything related to him but still it was sweet of her to sit down with everyone in order to choose a name for the baby. I must say the entire discussion revolving around the baby’s name was so realistic & convincing, where a few suggestions were made fun of & then the other few were not upto everyone’s liking. Zaitoon Bano’s suggestion was the funniest because it reminded Abba Jee of Allauddin. It is nice that Rubina has taken a back seat & is giving full authority to Laila so that she can enjoy the right of being the baby’s mother but still the way she gets curious & thinks about the baby goes to show that she might have given him away but he still has a special place in her heart like the rest of her children.

Sadaan tried to convince Hajra the last time & I must say, it was a very powerful & my most favorite scene of Sadaan’s track. Hajra was obviously left speechless but just because she is practicing her right of being his mother, she is not giving him any reason behind her rejection. Sadaan obviously doesn’t seem happy, like he is guilty of doing what he is about to do but then again, I don’t blame him because Hajra has left him with no choice.

Asim’s involvement in this matter was also interesting. Asim is like a friend to Sadaan & even though he supported him, he still warned him that things aren’t going to be easy after his Nikkah. Asim’s comment about Zahid keeping secrets made it seem like Asim was using Zahid for covering up something huge on his behalf but later what Zahid said to Rubina about how his responsibilities had doubled suggested that he was guilty of something? This suspense is quite interesting & I hope it’s worth the wait.

Overall, this episode was interesting but I really wish they get done with Sadaan & Afrah’s track ASAP, even the preview of the next episode suggested that it will be mostly about Sadaan’s Nikkah, so let’s see. Also, what could it be that Shaina wants but knows that her wish won’t be granted? Is it related to her education or may be there’s a guy that she likes but is shy to tell anyone about him? Let’s see. Can’t wait to find out Asim/Zahid secret & why Asim has this upper-hand on Zahid? What has he done? We have been teased enough & I can’t wait for the big reveal. Please share your thoughts.

Visaal Episode 3 Review – A Misunderstanding!

Ohkay so, this episode of Visaal was not only interesting but entertaining as well. I am glad that in this drama the writer has refrained from adding some strict & stern characters as seen in his previous projects, it somehow makes all the situations very light hearted & appeasing.

This episode was all about a huge misunderstanding that Akram was a victim of. He obviously frequents Ghufran’s place because he has assumed that Pari is his daughter that is why when Ghufran’s friend started talking about the marriage that too in front of Ghufran, Akram didn’t hesitate one bit & immediately made it seem as if he was ready because he obviously has Pari on his mind.

Taimur ended up succumbing to Shabbir’s pressures & it was obviously because of Pari as he has fallen for her at first sight. Taimur couldn’t really stop thinking about her & he did what Shabbir demanded in order to leave an impression on Pari. Shabbir was obviously very touched & impressed by Taimur’s display of respect & generosity towards him & his colleagues but little did he know that it was only because Taimur had something rather someone else on his mind.

Ghufran’s friend spoke to him about the potential of Akram marrying Naheed. I loved loved loved when Ghufran said that he will speak to his wife first because he trusted her intuition. I must say Hashim Nadeem has written some very dominating & staunch male characters in his previous dramas like that of Molvi Aleemuddin in Khuda Aur Mohabbat & Dhaani’s father in Dhaani but I am so glad he decided to go easy this time & this different spin on male characters has changed the dynamics of the entire drama. Even though a lot of focus has been made on how protective Shabbir is, but despite being a single parent & father, he has never stopped Pari from being herself. Yes, the way he guides her & protects her, shows his concerns as a father but it is beautiful that they both share such a beautiful bond with each other where they joke about things & are more like friends. Also, even though Ghufran is a Molvi, he is easy going & not as strict as they are usually shown in our dramas. The way Naheed gets the edge to fulfill her wishes & the way Ghufran spoke about discussing Akram’s proposal with his wife went to show that he believes in giving the ladies of his family their rights & respects their status as women.

So, Akram got to know that Pari’s name is Naheed. Pari on the other hand also convinced Naheed to say yes to Akram’s proposal so that she could save herself from her cousin who was known for eating Paan. Akram will definitely go ahead with this marriage because he thinks Pari is Ghufran’s daughter, quite an interesting twist!

Overall, this episode was quite interesting & the story is moving forward in a very nice manner. However, I will say that for me it is unconvincing & more like a glitch that Akram runs a shop in Ghufran’s area & everyone knows him but no one has told on Akram that he sports a very different look when he is not with those Masjid people like his leather jacket & stuff? Not sure when this aspect will be covered & when this image of Akram will be exposed, let’s see. All the actors are doing a wonderful job & both Hania Amir & Zahid Ahmed are in their element. Tabeer Episode 8 – Review!

Ohkay so, things have been moving forward in Tabeer at a decent pace & the overall story, though not something unique, has been written nicely. It can definitely pass as a decent drama to tune to.

Daadi left but Tabeer had to stay back because of Fawad’s son & she definitely felt lonely because after Yasir, the only family she has is Daadi & with her being gone, Tabeer really had no one to go to. Tabeer asked for Yasir’s bedding & felt peace because there was at least something in this strange new place that reminded her of her husband, that made her feel that it was hers.

Saniya mustered up the courage to see Fawad, it took a lot for her to come out of her shell & see Fawad but just a very brief encounter with Fawad & Tabeer made her realize that there was no place in Fawad’s life which she could fill with her presence as it was already filled in by Tabeer.

I must say Fawad’s nameless mother is really something. I mean Fawad has lost his wife & now because he feels indebted to Tabeer for what she is doing for his son, he wanted to speak to her but her son’s courtesy towards Tabeer made her uncomfortable? She also had this bizarre look on her face when Saniya came to see Fawad. She is one of those mothers who really shouldn’t get their sons married because they are so jealous & insecure. Fawad has lost his wife, the mother of his son & there she is, looking all comfortable & happy that she has her son all to herself now!

This episode was decent but yes, the overall mellow & grim feel of this drama might be a reason why not many people are tuning to it. Waiting to see some spark between Tabeer & Fawad but yes, totally liking that they are taking their time before showing that. Please share your thoughts.

Lashkara Episode 2 Review – Thoroughly Enjoyable!

Ohkay so, this episode of Lashkara was humorous as well as entertaining. Even though nothing happened much in this episode therefore it can be said that it was an extended version of the previous episode with a few more situations thrown in. The feel & the overall execution of this drama is refreshing & it just draws your attention to it perfectly.

So, subtly & slowly it was highlighted how Bubbly’s family also had their fair share of politics happening between them & the triggering factor which blew things out of proportion was Saima’s proposal which got forwarded to Bubbly. Even though Muneer was ashamed, Kulsoom didn’t seem concerned because for her, it was a validation that she invested her time & energies in the right thing as she got the answer that Bubbly’s future is secured because she is pretty & has a charming personality.

Saima’s parents were clearly upset & her mother especially blamed both Kulsoom & then Bubbly for snatching this opportunity away from Saima. It was nice to see Saima being the voice of reason & trying to advodate Bubbly’s position in front of her mother because yes, Saima was right, whatever happened wasn’t Bubbly’s fault & she didn’t deliberately leave such an impression on the suitor’s family which drew their attention towards her.

Kulsoom on the other hand found solace in Tayi’s suffering because she saw it as karma’s spin on her for looking down on Bubbly & seeing her as a nobody due to her lack of education. Muneer was genuinely sorry but unfortunately, his family is totally opposite to him in everything starting from perspectives to mentality.

Bubbly continued being herself & her attempt of making Saima happy was cute. Though Bubbly manipulates things to her advantage but she still is a sweet person from the inside. It is interesting to see how even though she doesn’t say anything to Sunny on those lines that she is interested in him but also doesn’t burst the bubble by stating the otherwise. It is like Bubbly likes to give Sunny this impression that she likes him but in reality, she only likes his undivided attention.

So, Nazeer ended up giving Bubbly the dress that belonged to someone else, obviously because he couldn’t say no to her. It is funny to see Nazeer thinking that he even stands a chance with Bubbly because right then & there Sunny forced him to wake up & smell the coffee that Bubbly was way out of his league & that she only belonged to Sunny.

Well, Bubbly enjoyed the wedding only to find out that Feeka’s mother Nasreen (Saba Hameed) recognized the suit that she was wearing because it belonged to her daughter. I must say it was interesting to see how Kulsoom was trying to do everything to cover up Bubbly’s blunder, like she wanted to save her from Taya & then Tayi’s taunts because she knew that this thing could escalate into something huge, giving Tayi another chance to take a dig at Bubbly. Kulsoom really takes pride in the fact that Bubbly is beautiful & carries herself well, that is why she made sure to compliment her after she returned from the wedding without even bothering about where did Bubbly arrange that dress from.

Well, Nasreen approached Kulsoom & Bubbly & then said something which caught them off-guard. Nasreen asked for Bubbly’s hand for her son Feeka they both couldn’t believe what Nasreen had just said. Even though the main focus of that scene was on the proposal, I must say I loved the way it was highlighted that Bubbly, despite being afraid, was ready to own her mistake as she didn’t want Nazeer to take the brunt of it. It shows how Bubbly will never deceive anyone or let them be mistreated because of her own mistakes. Though people might see Bubbly for her beauty & outer appearance & even though the entire focus has been on this aspect but I like that the writer has created such situations which give us a chance to learn more about her character & nature.

Feeka’s obsession with Bubbly was funny. Also, now that he has this wealth, it is interesting to see how he is using it to keep his eye on Bubbly. Sunny on the other hand also tried to arrange a selfie but things just didn’t go his way. I must say, I like how all of this is shown as harmless kind of obsession with Bubbly, like Sunny keeps on talking about how others have her pictures or videos but no one sees it as something to be frowned upon, not even Bubbly herself or Sunny who is supposedly possessive about her or even Feeka who sees her as his future wife.

Overall, this episode was quite interesting & I had a great time watching it. I am keen on seeing the animosity between Sunny & Feeka because they both have called dibs on Bubbly, let’s see who will win her over in the end. Ushna Shah is adorable as Bubbly, Mohsin Abbas Haider has made Feeka look creepily cute & Imran Ashraf is the perfect choice as Sunny, I just couldn’t stop laughing at his Punjabi accent English lesson, lol! Loving the direction & overall situation so far. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Lashkara.

Khasara Episode 1 – Review!

Ohkay so, the writing of Maha Malik, direction of Shahid Shafaat & the production of Six Sigma Plus; Khasara drama had a decent start. The first episode gave an introduction to the characters & their personalities were elaborated in a great detail that too effortlessly. Though whatever we saw was not something new but overall, the introductory episode was quite convincing in my opinion.

Mohtasim (Mikaal Zulfikar), a business tycoon is married to Linta (Sarwat Gillani), a possessive wife. They both have a son as well & from the surface, their life might seem picture perfect but ground reality is different.

Khasara Episode 1 - Review!

Moanis (Junaid Khan) lives in a small town named Ranipur, he has a wife Sila (Sonia Mishaal) & two sons. Moanis is a dutiful husband & works in Railways.

Moanis & his wife Sila are poles apart. Sila dreams big & she wants her life to be comfortable enough where her husband can support hers & their kids’ demands without thinking twice. Even though Sila does compromise by curbing her desires but she still understands her husband’s perspective & respects him as well. Moanis always finds himself in an awkward position where he has to explain himself again & again to Sila who always has a different take on things. Moanis is practical & humble, whereas Sila finds herself settling for whatever her life has offered to her with a bit of difficulty.

Khasara Episode 1 - Review!

Sila has a friend Areeba who is also married. Areeba is the breadwinner whereas her husband Azhar is jobless. Areeba & Azhar don’t have kids & apart from Moanis, Areeba happens to be another voice of reason in Sila’s life where she tries to guide her, help her in making the right choices & also reminds her to be thankful for whatever she has in her life because at times Sila gets caught up in what she doesn’t have while forgetting to appreciate what she does!

Mohtasim poses to be a good husband to Linta but he is having an affair with his secretary Arzoo. Arzoo has spent enough time with Mohtasim to know what sort of a person his wife is & how possessive she is. Arzoo is definitely not letting Mohtasim go anywhere that is why whenever she feels that Mohatsim might get in trouble because of her, she comes to his rescue so that Linta doesn’t suspect them.

Mohtasim plans a visit to Ranipur for his new business venture & because Linta sees that Arzoo is accompanying him, she decides to go too because Linta is pretty sure they both are involved but she is just looking for a chance to confirm & witness it herself. Mohtasim & Moanis happen to be childhood friends where Mohtasim shifted to Karachi & earned a living for himself there & Moanis stayed in his hometown. Well, Mohtasim contacts Moanis & that’s when Moanis invites him to stay at his place & I am sure Moanis will then get to learn about this new Mohtasim who has changed & has become an entirely different person.

Moanis seems to be mature enough & that is why he tries to make Sila realize that she has to protect herself. I am sure because of that very reason he won’t take long in understanding Mohtasim’s character & intentions too. I felt for Linta as well, even though she is right for being insecure because she knows that Mohtasim isn’t loyal to her, her husband made it seem that it was her fault that there were rumors happening at the office about her mental health. It was like Mohtasim was conveniently making her feel guilty for being insecure & possessive about him.

Overall, the first episode was good & the direction was strong too. All the actors effortlessly portrayed their characters. Sonia Mishal did well too but she seemed a little too modern for a girl belonging to a small town. No, I am not stereotyping but Sonia definitely should’ve worked on her dialogues a bit more because the way she spoke was exactly how a girl from any big city would. I found a few dialogues a bit cringeworthy like Linta repeatedly calling Arzoo 2 number aurat…eekhs! Anyways, let’s see how things roll in the future episodes. Please share your thoughts.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 7 Review-Extreme Materialism!

0

This whole episode focused on Rushna and Arham. Arham is truly in love with Rushna and as he has shown to be a stubborn boy from the very start, he cannot tolerate not getting her. Rushna was floating in her success space as according to her she had scored a man who was not only rich but very handsome too. She was picturing Mehrab as Arham all along and was over the moon because of her rishta. But Rushna is an extremely materialistic person. She cares about the money and how expensive a certain gift is that she is getting. She is same in the looks department too. All of this combined with the notion that she thought Arham has purposely sent Mehrab in his place to impress her didn’t go well at all. She was the mirror image of her mother in behaviour towards Arham and his phupho.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 7 Review-Extreme Materialism!

Arham is devastated by everything. He is behaving like a child as he still wants to marry Rushna after everything that went down. It has a lot to do with Mehrab too since Mehrab always gets Arham what he wishes for. He was already insecure about his looks and after Rushna bullied him on them, he could not take any further. Faizan Khawaja has been really good in this episode. All his whining and crying actually looked realistic. In the scene where he is crying in front of Mehrab looked very genuine.

Mirha is still supporting Rushna because according to her Arham deserved the lash out due to his deceit. Her chachi is still after her as she has no control over her own daughter. With her daughter inviting over people for rishta to leaving the house to go to her khala’s without permission, Rushna is something she cannot control.

Mehrab is devastated because of his brother’s condition. He will do everything he can to get him his Meena which obviously will go wrong for Mirha. And according to the preview he is going to kidnap Mirha.

Nandita Das On Visiting Pakistan

Political tension between Pakistan and India is not going away anytime soon but Nandita Das and some other B-Town names didn’t think that is something that should hold them back from attending Pakistan International Film Festival.

Nandita, along with over 20 other Indians, participated at the Pakistan International Film Festival (PiFF) in Karachi.

She opened up about her visit to Pakistan and said,

“Mumbai to Karachi is an hour’s journey, but has no direct flights because of the tense relations that have only worsened in recent times. For us to fly to each other’s country, we have to go via Dubai. Moreover, we only get restricted city-visas that are not valid not for the whole country,”

Nandita Das On Visiting Pakistan

On being called anti-national for visiting Pakistan she said,

“I have come back fully knowing that all that warmth, delicious food and affection that we all got, will quickly fade as the trolls begin to call us anti-national and media will question our intent.”

She further continued,

“While it may be true that the Pakistan government has harboured or at the very least is soft on terrorists, their own people have suffered grievously from this. Is vilifying the people of another country the only way to feel nationalistic?”

Nandita Das On Visiting Pakistan

She went on to add,

“Is my love for my country proportionate to how much I can hate another country? Yes, there are some real and some imagined conflicts that we all are locked in. But while that reality – history, geopolitics, and terrorism – is unlikely to change anytime soon, I still believe that small bridges could and should be built. And perhaps one day these small efforts will create a more peaceful and saner world.”

This wasn’t her first visit to Pakistan. The actor, who has earlier featured in the Pakistani film Ramchand Pakistani, recounted,

“The last time I went to Karachi was nine years ago along with the first film I directed, Firaaq, to the Kara Film Festival. That festival which has been unfortunately discontinued was organised by a bunch of young film-makers.”

Nandita Das On Visiting Pakistan

Singing praises for the mastermind behind PiFF, Nandita mentioned,

“The force behind this new venture is Sultana Siddiqui, a feisty woman who, with very limited resources and time, put this festival together.”

She revealed there was a lot of discussion on Indian cinema’s contribution to Pakistan at the festival.

“Both Indian and Pakistani film fraternities came together on various panels to explore ways in which we could collaborate and issues of common interest like the shrinking space for independent cinema and how to navigate through the different genres of films.”

The designer will have two segments as he showcases his collection on the first day of FPW which is being held on April 10 and 11.

In Adnan’s first segment, six models who are part of the JS Academy for the Deaf will walk the runway wearing clothes from the designer’s When in Karachi series.

The segment will be headed by Adnan’s head designer, who is also hearing-impaired and a graduate of the JS Academy for the Deaf.

Adnan’s daughter Parishae stated,

“The purpose of the show is to create awareness of the hearing impaired community,”

She continued stating that the aim of the segment is not to show to people that “deaf model can model too”,

“The senior most designer of the brand is hearing impaired and his work is outstanding and that’s what we want to show.”

The House of Amir Adnan said in a statement,

“The purpose of this show is to create awareness about the deaf community and symbolise that it does not matter if it is fashion or modelling or any other field, having a hearing impairment does not mean that you should not chase your dreams,”

The models while walking down the runway will use universal sign language to say “Deaf can do anything”.

Apart from the first segment, Amir’s second segment will be showcasing a environmentally conscious collection featuring ‘upcycled’ vintage Sherwanis.

Fifteen designers will showcase their collections at this year’s event.

Khamoshi Episode 27 Review-Khamoshi Again!

0

The characters of this drama should be referred for a psychiatric evaluation. Yes due to the high TRPs makers want to extend it as much as possible, it is understandable but still its high time that they start providing closure to all the stuff going on. There are far too many useless tracks that can be wrapped up now.

The whole episode was about degrading Arsala as much as possible. Naima did what she always does. She started accusing Arsala of Sabir’s death, the same Sabir she hated herself. She claimed that Arsala was characterless n front of the whole crowd there for her father’s death and guess what! No one stopped her. Because its a normal thing in Arsala universe to make stupid scenes on your father’s death. The mother is the most horrible character in this drama. She also thinks her daughter is doing something immoral to get money for the household and she asked her young daughter to go and never come back because that is normal too in Arsala universe. The most disturbing thing in all this is that Arsala who they are trying to show as the independent girl taking care of the whole house since the start did not say anything in defence. She was silently standing there ke aao meri beizzati karo.

Khamoshi Episode 27 Review-Khamoshi Again!

Atif was Naima 2 in this episode. All he was concerned about was why Shahram is spending money on everything. The only sensible guy in the whole episode was Mirza Sahib. He showed Atif mirror on his stupid tantrums twice. He was the only one pointing out that Atif was the one who should have taken care of all the bills and he even pointed out how evil Naima is making him the hero of Khamoshi.

At this point I cannot understand are they supporting Khamoshi? That people should keep listening to crap from others because that makes them look shareef and mashriqi? They should have shown Arsala standing up to people who were slandering her than just making her cry and silently go back.

Shahram is spending so much time with Arsala that his judgement has become cloudy. He is acting like a dumbo because now Arsala was ready to say yes, he is going to marry Zubiya. He should stay away and clear his head a bit. It is alright if he does not marry Arsala at this point but marrying psycho Zubiya is not something he deserves.

The next episode is again going to show horrible stuff happening to Bee Jaan and I don’t know how can people take it as it is not the last episode!

P.S: They forgot to remove red makeup from Iqra’s nose in the scenes she was not crying!

Woh Mera Dil Tha Episode 4 Review – What A Twist!!

The previous two episodes of Woh Mera Dil Tha focused entirely on introducing all the main characters and laid down the foundation for the most unexpected twist! Zaid’s character is an interesting mix of carefree yet sincere as well as daring. Although he isn’t as serious or focused as his father would want him to be but he is a reliable friend who will go out of his way to keep his friend out of trouble. Even though Zaid is blunt and not polished like his best friend but he isn’t selfish either. His character is likeable for many reasons, the most important one is that the shortcomings in his personality do not really hurt anyone.

Faiza Iftikhar has intelligently shown two different characters which break stereotypes; usually the guy who wears the suit in our dramas and is rich and decent is the perfect hero who every girl falls in love with and characters like that of Zaid are their best friends who usually aren’t “perfect” enough to be the heroes! The situation here is quite different and the writer has made Zaid’s character more appealing without making Arham look bad. Both these characters have their strengths and weaknesses but after this episode there is a good reason why most viewers will like Zaid’s character more than that of Arham. Sami Khan is absolutely brilliant as Zaid, he makes you feel for his character without even trying. Furqan Qureshi is equally convincing as someone who is in a predicament; he cannot let Naina go because he loves her but at the same time he doesn’t know how to convince his parents for this marriage. Unlike Zaid, he thinks too much about the consequences of his actions which is why he never goes to pick Naina and this time around he also sent Zaid to give Naina his message instead of going to her place himself. Zaid on the other hand does whatever he can for Arham without questioning him or thinking about the outcome.

Woh Mera Dil Tha Episode 4 Review - What A Twist!!

This episode opened with Arham mustering up the courage to tell his mother about Naina but his mother instantly told him off. Sometimes it seems like Arham doesn’t try hard enough and isn’t daring enough to take a stand. There is a good reason why he cannot seem to plead his case more firmly but one can’t help but wonder how Zaid would have reacted in such a situation! He wouldn’t have been so calculated and that could have changed everything. Right now even though Zaid’s father keeps on telling him that he cannot depend on Arham and he should find a job for himself, he continues to do what he wants to which basically shows that if he makes up his mind about something, he doesn’t let anyone convince him otherwise. Naina is a strong girl who is willing to take the bold step of telling her parents about Arham even though she too will face the same retaliation from them as Arham would face if his father finds out what is going on but she decided to stay quiet for now. She knows that she is completely helpless unless Arham supports her decision to tell her parents about their relationship. Madiha Imam is doing complete justice to her role and there are times when you feel like she fell for the wrong guy.

Naina’s father caught Zaid in her room and naturally he thought that they were in a relationship. Although Naina wanted to clarify this misunderstanding but Arham’s repeated requests to keep his name secret proved to be a main hurdle. What happened after that was covered superbly! Naina’s father had said already in one of the previous episodes that he only wanted someone shareef for his daughter, nothing else mattered. Since Zaid’s father has been his trusted employee for so many years now, his decision made perfect sense. Naina’s father’s insecurities are another reason why he thought this was the best decision. His character is a perfect example why people should not let their past define their present! Zaid’s father too wants his son to do exactly what he wants and never expects him to do anything right.

Tonight’s episode was one of the best episodes of this play so far, some of the supporting actors in the previous two episodes failed to impress but this episode was perfect because it focused on the leading characters. The story took an interesting turn from this episode which was completely unpredictable.

The preview of the next episode was really interesting. It is highly unlikely that Arham would take the bold step of marrying Naina secretly. Will Naina eventually give up on Arham? Will everything she witnessed tonight change her opinion about Zaid? I am waiting to find out!

How many of you watched this episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Noor ul Ain Episode 9 Review – Yawn Booster!

I legit yawned the moment this episode ended & I have also lost count how many times I yawned throughout this boring episode. Copying a story is one thing but executing it is another. I think they should have put more effort into making this drama interesting because we have seen that even if simple stories are executed well, they make a good watch. It is too obvious that they relied heavily on the star power & assumed that people will be jumping with joy despite a boring story but that’s not the case anymore. Noor ul Ain is not only a simple story, the overall drama is quite boring to tune to & doesn’t give you any reason to look forward to it.

I must say, Noor made it sound like her Chachi told her to buy 10 chewing gums whereas her parents had only allowed her 1, so because they were upset, she wanted Chachi to do the explanation, I mean seriously? Please don’t tell me that they wanted us to buy Noor’s bholapan that because she trusted Ghazala so much, she went ahead with this marriage? Even if Ghazala assured Noor that she will take care of everything later, did she really didn’t do any thinking on her part? Never once thought of her parents? Wasn’t that her duty as a daughter to be mindful of her parent’s reaction to this entire scenario? Once again, they tried really hard to make Ghazala a villain but I am not buying that! Mehnat kar ke writer ne khud se 1 hi track add kiya Ghazala ka…wo bhi itna betukka!

Noor’s expressions & tone when she called Khizar to inform that Qasim wants to meet him were so annoying. Noor was like she made a mistake not because of herself like by getting Nikkaofied to Khizar behind her parents’ back, but because she trusted Ghazala? Is she still not taking the blame? Not owning her decision? It was funny that at first she called her marriage a mistake & then the next moment she called her mistake of a husband to inform him that he should come. I think because Sajal over performed in O Rangreza, by the time she started working for Noor ul Ain, she had lost her stamina to act & I think she did the right thing by choosing such a drama because she definitely needed some break from acting & now it can be clearly seen that she is herself bored, tired & unable to act. I think the writer did a huge favor to Sajal by writing a character like Noor who is so expressionless, emotionless & bland & probably so easy for an actress like Sajal to perform!

The entire episode went in Qasim’s murmuring & crying. I must say Noor’s mother bounced back from such a big blow quite well & also started convincing Qasim that he has to accept this marriage now. I am sure she must be lowkey happy & doing bhangra in her heart ke chalo bachi ne bholaypan mai hi sahi, shadi to ameeeeeer larke se hi ki hai na otherwise in such circumstances, it is the mother who slaps, taunts & creates some noise over daughter’s head but Noor’s mother seemed pretty calm after the storm!?!?!?! Hmmmmmm!

Sofie’s fiancé tried to be the voice of reason but I hope this track is different than the one shown in the movie where Dina’s fiancé succumbs to his parent’s pressures & calls his engagement off with her. I hope Sofie’s sasuralis don’t bother much about Noor but let’s see!

Abba jee ka thappar was quite funny. I mean when he knew that he had to accept this marriage & tell Khizar to bring his mother home, becharay ko awain hi maar diya. Oh, sorry awain hi nahi mara, because Suhani’s father slaps Aadi in Saathiya, how could our copywriter oh I mean writer omit that? LOL! Anways, please share your thoughts & tell me how many times you guys yawned while watching this episode? Oh man, it is going to be a task viewing & reviewing this drama. Such a disappointment!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Strings Hit Again With ‘Urr Jaoon’

Celebrations of three decades of Strings haven’t ended yet and won’t be ending anytime soon. The first song ‘Sajni’ was as gorgeously melodious as possible and the next addition to the album 30 is ‘Urr Jaoon’. Urr Jaoon focuses more on social vices and the unequal distribution of wealth.

Strings Hit Again With 'Urr Jaoon'

Speaking of the album Faisal said,

“We want to give equal importance to all the songs which is why we don’t want to release them all together.”

Sung by Bilal Maqsood and directed by Jami, Urr Jaoon spreads the message of empathy and integrity. It celebrates those who fight whatever life throws at them.

Enjoy,

Films in April 2018

0

April the fourth month of the year 2018 has started. This month has no official holiday. This is the month in which summer season starts in most parts of our country. Few local festivals like Mailan Chiraghan, Baisakhi also fall in this month.

No significant sports event falls in this month. Relatively favorable weather and absence of any sporting activity usually attracts film makers. But since 2013, the number of Urdu films in this month has been on the lower side. Last year (2017) only one film Chalay Thay Saath was released on 21st April 2017 and it also proved average at the box office.

This year too only one Urdu film is releasing in this month which is not a mainstream commercial film.

Motrocycle Girl (موٹر سائیکل گرل)
Motorcycle Girl is the only Urdu film releasing in the month of April. It is the second film directed by Adnan Sarwar, where the first one Shah was released on 14th August 2015. Shah was a biopic about the Olympian boxer Hussain Shah. Though not much successful at the box office, Shah was widely praised for its solid content. The film also gave recognition to Adnan Sarwar as a film actor, director and producer.

After a gap of almost 3 years Adnan Sarwar is back with another content based film, which is also inspired from true life events. The film is loosely based on the boundary-breaking motorcycle journeys of Zenith Irfan who, at 20 years of age, is thought to be the first Pakistani woman to have made a solo motorcycle journey through the northern regions of the country.

While Adnan Sarwar produced Shah alone, for the Motorcycle Girl Jami (Jamshed Raza) has also joined in as a co-producer. Jami is also an acclaimed film and ad director, known for his film Moor also released on 14th August 2015. The combination of Adnan Sarwar and Jami definitely raises the expectation towards Motorcycle Girl.

In the film Sohai Ali Aabro is playing the role of Zenith Irfan. To prepare for her role, Sohai Ali Abro undertook extensive motorcycle training and followed Zenith Irfan’s bike journey from Lahore to Khanjerab during the shooting of the film.

The trailer of the film was released in the last week of March 2018 and so far recieved positive response on the social media. The film is shot on the scenic locations of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Ali Kazmi is playing the male lead in this film opposite Sohai Ali Aabro. Another notable name in the cast is Samina Peerzada who is appearing in a film after a long gap of nineteen years. Samina last appeared in the Urdu film Inteha in a guest role released in February 1999. In Motorcycle Girl, Samina is playing the role of the mother of Sohai Ali Aabro.

Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, who last appeared in Manto (September 2015) is also playing a supporting role in this film.

Motorcycle Girl is not a mainstream commercial film, and such films struggle with the masses. Such films usually have a limited audience at large multiplexes. It will be interesting to see the response of audience towards this film.

Film: Motorcycle Girl (موٹر سائیکل گرل)
Release Date: 20th April 2018
Genre: Adventure, Family, Comedy
Cast: Sohai Ali Abro, Ali Kazmi, Samina Peerzada, Sarmad Khoosat, Shamim Hilali
Written by: Adnan Sarwar
Directed by: Adnan Sarwar
Produced by: Adnan Sarwar
Co-produced By: Jami
Music: Xulfi
Production House: Logos Films (Adnan Sarwar) & Azaad Film Company (Jami)
Distributor: Excellency films
Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/MotorcycleGirlMovie/

So it concludes the introduction of the Urdu films coming in April 2018.

Thanks for your time.

Zun Mureed Episode 6 Review – Important Developments

Tonight’s episode of Zun Mureed covered a great deal from Sajad’s growing frustration to the issues Tabbasum was facing in her brother’s house. This episode also focused on showing the negative effects this entire development had on the children who were always loved and were well taken care of by their parents. All of a sudden they lost their mother and Sajad who was already not used to looking after them, found it really difficult to handle them. Marium’s husband is gradually running out of patience and she too is finding it hard to cope with the situation. Despite of the difficulties Sajad’s family is facing because they cannot handle the kids or the house, they continue to blame Tabbasum for everything. When the children do not listen to them, it is Tabbasum’s fault because she spoiled them! When the maid gives them a tough time, that is also Tabbasum’s doing. The general trend in this house is that no one takes responsibility for anything, everyone uses Tabbasum like a punching bag. Even Bi Jaan who cannot even feed herself likes to feel in control by treating Tabbasum and even her children as outsiders. Bi Jaan’s expressions when Marium’s husband told her to go home also showed how controlling she was even in this situation.

The flashback scenes tonight and Tabbasum’s conversation with her sister showed the only reason why she managed to juggle so much in all these years was because her husband acknowledged and appreciated everything she did. Tabbassum’s dialogues were written brilliantly and they conveyed everything she was going through faultlessly. Nadia Khan’s performance however left a lot to be desired. I fail to understand why, she does not tie her hair. Those perfectly combed and straightened loose hair do not go well with her situation at all. Apart from her dialogue delivery, Nadia Khan needs to focus on her outlook as well especially if she is going to play such roles in the future too. Thankfully Tabbasum’s character has been etched-out so well that even with her average performance it isn’t difficult to understand what Tabbasum is going through. The overall impact of everything she is going through definitely lessens but the character is still easy to connect to. Tabbasum explained why she didn’t think she deserved to be kicked out of her own house, her dialogues clearly show that she is a strong woman who knows the difference between right and wrong which is the best part of her personality.

Zun Mureed Episode 6 Review - Important Developments

Sajad’s growing frustration, anger and his daily struggles were also shown convincingly on screen. Omair Rana has once again nailed a character which is different from many others he has played so far. Sajad is angry and right now he does not regret anything. The children are lonely as well as scared and very soon it seems like Sajad might have to either leave the kids with Tabbasum or bring her back. Bi jaan wants Marium all to herself and I am waiting to find out for how long Marium will be able to fulfill these responsibilities. Tabbasum’s bhabhi’s scenes could easily have been chopped down. Aisha Gul is a phenomenal actress but I feel she is being typecast lately.

The preview of the next episode showed that the media isn’t going to let Tabbasum settle down or make a decision in peace. Bi Jaan once again will instigate her son to leave Tabbasum for good. Overall, this episode was well written and for the most part well executed. This drama has started an interesting debate and it draws the line where it should be drawn! It has my complete attention and I can’t wait to find out what the upcoming episodes have in store for us.

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 8 Review – Don’t Watch It Alone!!!

Things are getting more serious with every passing episode and gradually even those members of the family who were not convinced that there is paranormal activity in the house are being forced to change their mind. Until the previous episode, I felt for the Dayan since it seemed like there was a genuine reason why she could not rest in peace but after tonight’s episode my thoughts about her have completely changed. She is pure evil just like any other demon who comes back to take revenge. The fact that she didn’t hold back and killed the person trying to restrain her went to show that she wasn’t going to take it easy on anyone who will try to stop her. This latest development added to the scary element in the drama because so far Neelo’s ghost hadn’t done anything so extreme. Irfan Khoosat’s character is still a mystery, tonight’s episode also focused on the present unlike the previous few episodes which also showed the back story.

Alia is the only one right now who is seriously trying to do something to deter the dayan, although Rameez went to see his friend but so far he hasn’t done anything tangible. All the scenes which showed what the dayan was capable of doing were terribly scary especially in this episode. Some of the scenes also suggested that she is trying to scare the children as well so that they also team up with her since Rameez’s friend explained how these creatures operate. Amar Khan is brilliant as the dayan, her expressions, body language and dialogue delivery has never failed to impress so far. Even in the flashback scenes she translated Neelo’s character flawlessly on screen. Sarah Khan is also faultless as a possessed girl who has no control over herself. Osama Tahir and Nazr-ul-Hassan are also doing complete justice to their characters. The director Saife Hassan has done a remarkable job shooting the horror scenes which is why they always have the right effect on the viewers.

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 8 Review - Don't Watch It Alone!!!

The opening scene of this episode was one of the best scenes tonight. I don’t remember watching such a scene executed this brilliantly in any other Pakistani drama. Aziz sahib’s reaction to everything so far however hasn’t been covered properly since he didn’t seem alarmed even after this incident or after the conversation he had with Neelo in one of the previous episodes.

Rameez’s encounter with Rehmat Chacha and later on everything that his father said to him showed that he knew something which everyone else didn’t and also that Aziz did not trust his brother at all. Aziz is someone who is hiding many secrets, he keeps you guessing. The last scene of this episode was just as scary as the first one. This was one of the best episodes of Bela Pur ki Dayan which was so terrifying that I had a difficult time watching it alone!

The preview of the next episode was really promising. Rameez is finally convinced that he needs to do something about the situation and now the viewers will also find out all the details about this family’s history. Was Neelo killed by her own brother? How will this family get this demon out of their lives? I am waiting to find out.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Pukaar Episode 9 – Review!

Ohkay so, it was a decent episode of Pukaar. Where the story of Sarang was taken forward, I feel Samra’s has been on the loop for quite some time now. I really hope her track progresses a bit from now on as it is no fun seeing such a rightfully opinionated girl being tortured.

Samra was caught even before she could escape & then Laali burst the bubble for her that she was well aware of the secret that she was trying to keep about her pregnancy. I like that Samra doesn’t shy away from saying what is right & what is on her mind. Samra has nothing to lose, so it is good that despite being unable to do much, she is not settling for this ridiculousness that Laali time & again puts her up with. Samra is helpless but I think more than that, she is trying to gather herself to come to a decision as to how she has to bounce back & fight for herself. I really think Samra’s parents should also take a bold step now considering they both know that she is expecting a child & is practically in a house arrest.

Laali obviously has got nothing else to do, no hobby, no interests where she can channel out her negative energies, that is why she has made Samra a focal point & is now torturing her. Taking away colored clothes from her, making her wear all whites only depicts the size of her brain, which is probably smaller than a peanut. It was nice to see Tashfeen warming upto Samra & if not much, at least trying to do something to stop the mistreatment that Samra was facing. Sultan obviously showed no compassion, no sympathy that is why Tashfeen got no courage to stand upto Laali & tell her to stop whatever she was doing.

So, Amna told Sarang everything as to why she had lied to him all his life. Sarang finally got to understand what sort of a person Sultan was, because the look of disgust on his face said it all. Even though Sultan got married to Amna, he just left her in the lurch & didn’t have the courage to own her in front of his family. Obviously, Amna had no other option left than to lie to Sarang, I think it was way better to tell him that his father died than to introduce him to a coward like Sultan who wasn’t a man enough to stand by his wife. It is so obvious that now that Sultan has lost Fahad, he conveniently decided to show up & meet Sarang as he’d want him to fulfill Fahad’s shoes & do what he couldn’t. Sultan is nothing but a practical & selfishly ambitious person, so he obviously hasn’t contacted Sarang out of his fatherly love for him, but only to take advantage of the fact that he has another son who will contest for him in the elections.

Overall, this episode was pretty decent but I will say they have now started relying a lotttttttt on the OST & that is now killing the charm that the song has. Yes, we get it, things are difficult for Samra & her life is tough, but just an instrumental music would do rather than playing that entire song again & again & again as no lies there, I now have a headache after listening to so much of music in this episode. Anyways, the acting & the direction is nice, just want things to progress now. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Pukaar.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Cake The Film Review-A Masterpiece!

0

Since the release of Waar, there is one thing we hear all the time and that is, “Support Pakistani Cinema“. Well, Guys! Cake is the film for which we all should be saying this and repeating it over and over. This is in just two words: A MASTERPIECE! Let’s break it down, of course, without any spoilers.

Story And Performances:

Cake is the story of a family and their emotions and bonding with a major twist. Zain(Faris Khalid), Zareen(Amina Sheikh) and Zara(Sanam Saeed) are three siblings who are stuck with a lot of problems in their personal lives. With a tragedy in the family, they all are pulled back and comes out the monster everyone was hiding for a decade. The characters of the story are so well written that you can feel what they are going through. The ladies of Cake are the true show stealers. They are shown as very strong and badass women and all the actresses have done 100% justice to their roles. Amina Sheikh and Beo Zafar(the mother) are just THE BEST! They melted completely into their roles and for the whole film, they are their characters, not themselves. Sanam Saeed has also been fabulous as the caught-in-self Zara. Muhammad Ahmed is outstanding as a loving husband and a protective father. Romeo played by Adnan Malik is a very important character but Adnan has not been very outstanding in the portrayal. However, in the most important scenes, he has done better and the other cast members have filled the low that was being created.

Cake The Film Review-A Masterpiece!

Direction, Editing And Music:

The director Asim Abbasi has nailed it. As they say, the director is the captain of the ship and he had stayed true to the statement. He has brought out the best in every actor and kept every layer of Cake juicy and delicious. Editing is another strong point of Cake. The film has been perfectly edited with not a single extra scene. The cinematography is beautiful with mesmerizing frames which will make one fall in love with the screen. Music is also Cake’s strong point. The Sketches have produced the music and it just soothes the nerves. There are no special sequences for the songs. The story moves forward along with the songs and they have been placed in the perfect places.

Some Really Cool Stuff:

We have problems in our lives which are not just marriage and love stories and Cake has shown that. No one is whining over lost love. These ladies have careers, ambitions and they are strong. They are Zameendaars. Cake has addressed many taboos too from not having children in your thirties to smoking to the ordeals of a divorce. They have shown minorities in a very positive light too. Adnan’s character who is a Christian has not been stereotyped and is shown in a very positive light.

To sum it in a line: “This is a very delicious Cake which has a lot of frosting but is not heavy, it is sweet but not too sweet, it just melts in the mouth with every bite.”

Aangan Episode 22 – Review!

Ohkay so, this turned out to be one serious episode of Aangan & probably has to be the only episode so far that I wasn’t too interested while watching because it covered Sadaan & Afrah’s track. Even though I didn’t really enjoy it much but it doesn’t take away from the fact that it was definitely needed to take things forward & to give coverage to these characters because they are a part of this story too.

Laila was making sure to walk an extra mile, just exactly how she has been doing right from the beginning, because she knows that she has to prove a lot. Laila on her own was not faltering & because she was being over protective & over sensitive about the baby, even that was creating issues with some of the family members. I totally was with this on Laila where she stood her ground & announced right from the beginning that she wouldn’t let go of the baby because she didn’t want him to get attached to Rubina. I am sure since this entire scenario is new for everyone, all of them really didn’t know how to tackle it, that is why time & again they kept on suggesting Laila to give the baby to Rubina so that she could comfort him. They all just didn’t realize that it would further make things tough for Laila as kids tend to give hard time to anyone or everyone, so it obviously wasn’t like how they all assumed that he was longing for Rubina. Laila proved to be a good mother & she was taking utmost care of the baby.

I totally felt for Rubina too when she shunned the idea of bringing the baby to her to comfort him. Rubina obviously is not in a right mental or emotional state because giving away your own child is not easy, but I also felt that Zahid was genuinely being concerned for her as he could see that she wasn’t at ease but still Rubina snapped at him. Even though Zahid has done nothing for Rubina to expect a polite reponse from her but I also feel that at times when he is genuinely concerned, Rubina becomes unnecessarily stern too.

Allauddin did what he is good at. This entire scenario basically highlighted how outsiders tend to poke their noses in matters that have been tackled with mutual understanding & respect & since they can not see things being so smooth, they do everything to ruin such sensitive affairs. Zahid unfortunately ended up falling for everything that Allauddin said but even though he was confident in Zahid his brother, he wanted some sort of guarantee, some assurance from Laila because by the end of the day it wasn’t easy for Zahid as well because he is the father of the baby.

Well, Afrah shared her sob story with Sadaan & he couldn’t resist talking to her mother. No matter what, I truly feel that Hajra is being unfair & even it Sadaan will get married to Afrah behind her back, I will definitely not blame him because Hajra has pushed him to the limit.

Overall, it was a decent episode but I didn’t enjoy it as much. Obviously, I don’t expect every other episode to be humorous or happening because there are some bigger more serious issues that any family faces & they are obviously going to surface in Aangan too but because I am not a fan of Afrah’s character, I want this entire matter to be sorted quickly so that we can get back to more important & better characters, their affairs & have a few light hearted moments that they all offer. Visaal Episode 2 Review – A Happening Episode!

Ohkay so, this episode was Visaal was quite happening. I am glad that while the story is still in the introductory stages, a lot has already started happening which is making it interesting. Despite the similarities with Khuda Aur Mohabbat, it does seem that Visaal will be a lot different. I also see a couple of love triangles forming in the future as well.

Akram has really started to form an image now. After seeing how he paved his way & got one golden opportunity after another it, it got a bit too clear as to why he wanted to get in contact with a person like Molvi Ghufran who has a good reputation in the area. It was only because of Molvi Ghufran that Akram got the headstart that he was looking for in the business. On his & his friend’s recommendation, Akram succeeded in having a smooth sail in opening his business. Once again, it is sweet that Molvi Ghufran & everyone around him has ended up trusting Akram on his face value but even though Akram did do some trickery, he didn’t deceive anyone openly to damage the name that he has earned in such a short span of time.

Shabbir ended up getting injured in the protest & Pari lost her cool. I totally see Taimur falling for her, that is why, despite being such a rigid person, he couldn’t stop smiling when Pari was insulting him because she couldn’t forgive him for what he did to her father.

Akram has fallen for Pari & it is only because of her, he chose to stay back & not run away after taking the products. Akram lost his chance of making a huge profit but so far he still has set a ground for himself, it is like he is setting a trap to further his agendas. There was this new entry named Tariq & he looked just as conniving as Akram. I am sure he will be another con artist in this group.

Naheed & Pari’s relationship seems interesting. It is also something to be noticed that despite being a Molvi’s daughter, Naheed has some interests like staying up to date with latest fashion trends & being interested in love stories. I have a feeling that she might end up falling for Akram & that will form another love triangle, apart from Taimur, Akram & Pari’s.

Overall, it was an enjoyable episode to watch. It is going to be interesting to see how far Akram will be able to keep his true identity a secret. Though this is most likely to happen but I really hope this drama doesn’t become a bit too serious. Also, I am not sure why Akram decided to be his real self in the shop, because he opened it in Ghufran’s area so anyone can tell on him because he is sporting two different images there. Let’s see. Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 22 Review – Intense!

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila is the only play right now which I truly look forward to watching all week and it never disappoints. The compelling and realistic performances by all the actors, dialogues and conversations which are effective, meaningful, impactful as well as engaging because they are executed flawlessly by an ace director, who has proved yet again just how amazing he is at what he does are few of the reasons why this drama is a class above the rest. Saman Ansari’s outstanding performance, Nadia’s parting dialogue, the scene covering Sila’s response when Nadia shouts out the truth and Raheel’s dialogues when Joi tried to escape the situation were some of the best moments of this episode.

This episode opened with Zaini getting married and later on what seemed like an end to a tiring day took a turn which changed everything for everyone in Noor Manzil. Although Nadia decided to leave Noor Manzil after realizing that no one was going to believe her but she didn’t go without saying everything that was on her mind. Her dialogues were mind blowing and covered so much!! Nadia’s character has been the most brilliant addition to this play. Even though her character was introduced only a few weeks back yet she has played a major role in changing the course of the story. Kiran Haq’s performance has been powerful throughout, she understands and owns this character. Nadia’s fearless personality has been a delight to watch because her character has been written beautifully and has been translated on screen superbly.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 22 Review - Intense!

Sadia’s reaction when everyone seemed to believe Joi, was covered really well. That scream was a mix of pain and helplessness and it couldn’t have been more on point. It was an apt response to a situation which wasn’t in her control. Saman Ansari translated the pain and agony Sadia had endured quietly for all these years impeccably on screen and this time around when she couldn’t hold it back anymore she let it out in the most powerful manner. Although for all these weeks Sila had been trying to convince herself that she didn’t love Hatim any more but when everything came out in the open, she instinctively rushed to save him. This was one of the most poignant scenes in this episode. Hatim and Sila’s relationship has always been one of the best parts of this drama and now that things have taken a turn for the worse, Hatim will find out the ugly truth. I am waiting to find out how far Sila will be willing to go to save the only person she truly loves in Noor Manzil.

The viewers also found out today why Bari Aapa’s husband lets her run the show – the reason made tons of sense. It also goes to show just how well thought out this script is, there is a good reason for everything no matter how minute it is. Sikandar always wanted Sadia out of his life and this was the perfect time for him to leave her therefore he wasn’t interested in finding out the details but wanted a verdict which suit his needs. Nauman Iajz and Sakina Samo’s performances have been remarkable right from the first episode, they give every single scene their best.

Overall, this episode of Dar Si Jati Hei Sila was mind-blowing and the next episode is going to be even more powerful. Can’t wait to find out what will happen once everyone finds out Hatim is Joi’s son!

PTI MPA Demands Ban On The Word “Talaaq” In Dramas

Malik Taimoor, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA from Rawalpindi, has submitted a resolution to the Punjab Assembly seeking ban on the use of the word talaaq (divorce) in Pakistani television dramas.

PTI MPA Demands Ban On The Word "Talaaq" In Dramas

According to Taimoor and other supporters of the move the word talaaq is creating a negative impact on Pakistani society and has been termed as undesirable in Islam. It, therefore, urges the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to ban the airing of the word on television across the country.

On the other hand the resolution does not suggest what substitute word should be used instead of “Talaaq” if the script requires so.

This is a story in progress.

Lashkara Episode 1 Review – A Brilliant Beginning!

Ohkay so, the writing of Zafar Mairaj, direction of Kashif Nisar & the production of Six Sigma; Lashkara commenced last night on ARY Digital & had quite an interesting start. It is commendable how the life of inner-city residents of Lahore was brought to limelight. I must say, I loved the way they showed the typical dynamics of any ‘mohalla’ where there’s a queen of hearts & has quite a lot of admirers.

Bubbly (Ushna Shah) is your typical girly girl, totally into herself, conscious about her beauty & knows how to use it as a weapon. Bubbly knows that she is beautiful & since she takes care of herself so keenly, she doesn’t mind using it to her advantage. Even though Bubbly got such sort of an introduction, it was never once suggested that she was manipulative or conniving. Bubbly is sweet & innocent but she definitely is not gullible or naive. Bubbly lives in a joint family system with her father Muneer (Noor ul Hassan), mother Kulsoom (Saba Faisal), brother Iqbal, Taya Jee, Tayi Jee, their daughter Saima & son Guddu.

Lashkara Episode 1 Review - A Brilliant Beginning!

Taya Jee is a tailor & Muneer is a dyer. Even though both the families have very different mindsets & perspectives, it was interesting to see how they all lived in peace & harmony. Taya & Tayi have adorned their daughter Saima with the jewel of education & that is why, when it came to finding a suitor for her, the fact that the guy who was coming to see Saima was well-educated was enough for them to be contented. Kulsoom has raised Bubbly & Iqbal in a very different manner, may be it has a lot to do with the sort of background Kulsoom comes from, even though it wasn’t covered but her mannerism was enough of an evidence. Kulsoom has raised Bubbly with some very stereotypical standards & she supports Bubbly’s self-obsession by taking care of every little thing that draws her attention especially if it is beauty related. Even though the entire ‘beauty remedy’ scenario was a little stretched but I liked how everyone was involved into it because it ended up becoming a way to introduce their characters a bit more elaborately.

Lashkara Episode 1 Review - A Brilliant Beginning!

Saima is a brilliant student & is preparing to appear in CSS exams & she has her parent’s full support. I loved that scene where Saima’s mother tries to sell a face cream to her ever-busy bookworm daughter & consequently, ends up seeking help of Kulsoom & Bubbly who excel at all those remedies to knock the zit out. Even though it was subtly suggested that Kulsoom was a bit uneasy after finding out about the ‘kabil rishta’ that was under talks for Saima but I loved how she did everything to make Saima look presentable, just the way she would do when the time for Bubbly’ll arrive.

Well, talking about Bubbly’s admirers. She has one at Taya Jee’s tailoring shop, Nazeer the tailor. Then there’s Sunny (Imran Ashraf) who is her neighbor & will even learn English because Bubbly said so. Then there is Feeka (Mohsin Abbas Haider) now trying hard to be known as Chaudry Rafique who I guess has acquired some wealth lately & made quite an appearance to impress Bubbly.

Lashkara Episode 1 Review - A Brilliant Beginning!

I must say the way the mohalla rivalry was shown between Sunny & Feeka was hilarious. Sunny was obviously jealous but couldn’t stop belittling Feeka because he could see that he was doing a little too well for Sunny’s liking. The way everyone welcomed Feeka with warm hugs & then a spy informed him about Bubbly was so amusing. It actually looked like they brought all those real life dynamics to life which happen in each & every corner of every single city.

Bubbly made quite an impression on the guests who were visiting to meet Saima & unfortunately, they ended up putting forth a proposal for Bubbly. Let’s see what her reaction will be.

Overall, the introductory episode was refreshing, interesting, amusing & everything nice. I enjoyed the way the characters were introduced & how their mindsets were elaborated. Every single actor was in their element & the direction was superb too. I loved those camera angles, those vibrant colors, styling of every single character, it screamed Lahore to me & I loved it. Ushna Shah, Imran Ashraf & Mohsin Abbas Haider, all of them were amazing, even though Ushna got the most coverage in this episode but the boys did extremely well in their limited screen time too, well enough to let us know how their characters are going to be like. I liked the way Bubbly’s character was styled, like even though she is very fashionable, her makeup & overall look still suggested that she comes from a not-so-modern background, like there was this lack of finesse in her makeup which exactly showed that she may be up-to-date with every latest trend, she was still not too refined. I simply love watching dramas like these & since the first episode has skyrocketed my expectations; let’s hope it continues to impress us ahead too. Please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Lashkara.
