Alamdar Khan Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Chester Bennington

Linkin Park is a name as familiar as home to every music lover worldwide, naturally the passing of Chester Bennington in summer last year left the whole world in tears and with an unfillable void.

Alamdar Khan Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Chester Bennington

Alamdar Khan, a Pakistani singer, recently released a video singing a cover of Linkin Park’s famous song Crawling. Set in a black and white backdrop, the video features Khan and some clips from Bennington’s last performance.

Alamdar Khan Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Chester Bennington

Khan has been into music for a long time. Talking to The Express Tribune, he revealed that Linkin Park is a major part of his life and interest in music.

“My cousin and I were jamming to Linkin Park’s song after Bennington had passed away and we thought of recording it. But he was flying back to the US soon so I got in touch with Sarmad Ghafoor, who recorded the song for us.”

Post recording, Khan thought of shooting a video as well so he got back in touch with Ghafoor and filmed it.

All of this happened in the span of a few days. No one from our side of the world had paid a tribute to Bennington so I took it upon myself to honour him,”

Bennington passed away in July 2017. The singer was suffering from depression and committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in California. With his tribute, Khan aims to educate people about mental disorders as well. He explained,

“Mental illnesses are still considered a taboo in Pakistan. If you go see a shrink, people start to think you are crazy. So we’re trying to raise awareness that it is okay to go see a psychiatrist and get help,”

We hope more people take mental illnesses as seriously as they take cancer or AIDS and the world doesn’t have to lose another Chester Bennington or Robin Williams or Kurt Cobain to a mental illness.

Akshay Kumar Faces Severe Criticism For Defending Anti-Pakistan Film

0

Bollywood film industry is among the most successful film industries in the world. Pakistanis have grown up watching Bollywood films and their stars always receive a lot of love in Pakistan. From the three Khans to Akshay Kumar, all of them have always gathered a lot of love from Pakistani fans but since Modi’s government has come in India, their whole landscape and mindset as a country has changed. Ban culture in Bollywood has pushed many actors to choose Hindutva and nationalist scripts so their movies work as propaganda films like The Kashmir Files is what is mostly working in India. Akshay Kumar also did a nationalist film titled Bell Bottom last year.

Aksbandh – Pakistan’s First Found Footage Horror Film

Horror movies are right up my alley.I am always ready to grab some popcorn and enjoy a spine-chilling horror film so it’s no surprise that Aksbandh (previously titled Paranormal Karachi Nights), a 2016 Pakistani found footage horror film piques my interest.

Directed by Emran Hussain and co-written with Ayaz Samoo, produced by Naveed Arshad, Seemeen Naveed, Ayaz Samoo and Emran Hussain under the production banner of Cinematic Media, Big Idea Entertainment, Aksbandh follows six friends who set out on an fun adventure trip to Larkana, Sindh, to make a small found footage film, where things take a dark turn and they find themselves in danger.

57487f3cf1f05

The cast includes Ayaz Samoo, Saud Imtiaz, Danial Afzal, Bilal Yousufzai, Shehzeen Rahat, Mahrukh Rizvi and Arshad Ali. Most of them are not well-known names of the industry, but Ayaz Samoo has worked in spy thriller, 021 and Moor, for the latter he received AFA Best Actor in a Negative Role.

Talking to Dawn Images, Ayaz Samoo revealed, “When we started our script, there were only two characters instead of six. We incorporated more characters in order to make things more exciting and interesting. With fewer characters, there was a chance of monotony, something we wanted to avoid.”
On TV, Ayaz Samoo has mostly done comedy shows. “I left comedy to pursue serious roles, but it still remains my first love, I started my career as a standup comedian but wasn’t getting comedy roles on the silver screen. In Aksbandh, I saw my chance to do comedy on the big screen and I created the character of Sunny. I wanted the producers to know that I could still do comedy even after getting the Best Villain trophy at the ARY Film Awards. This was the right time to get back to the pavilion.”

Aksband-Review

The film was released across Pakistani cinemas on May 20, 2016.

Aks – Overview

0

Umera Ahmed’s Aks ( a reflection ) is all about the game of chess. One might think that what is the connection of the reflection with a game of chess. Well, after reading Aks you will definitely be able to know about this confusing subject.

The writing style is very unique, beautiful, intriguing and a bit confusing. This novel will definitely disturb you as it is about one of the harsh and brutal face of life. Starting from the very beginning ,it’s quite disturbing to jump from one scenario to another and to remember what is happening. But I think this is the beauty and suspense of this novel. In a game of chess, Queen is the most powerful piece. Yet, the whole game of chess is about king’s show of power. Chirya is not satisfied with this arrangement. She thinks if queen is the most powerful piece then she must be the most “important “one too.

Moving to the other scenario of this novel is a fairytale of Snow White and seven dwarfs. The seven dwarfs are actually the jins which are present in the house. There is a per-conceived notion about them that they are scary, horrible and very ugly But Aks loves them because they never harmed her and she named them Daido, Kato, Minta, Kinta, Shinta, Toko, Tofo. Connecting these two scenarios is an art of an amazing writer and I believe Umera Ahmed nailed it.

Untitled

Aks is all about the struggle, sacrifice and fight of a young girl 8 years Old, who suffers from a childhood trauma . The way she stands on her own not only to face the disgusting world but to defeat the horrifying game of psychologically disturbed people is amazing. She is different, headstrong, intelligent and a beautiful girl because of her determination, intellectual abilities and immense wisdom. Umera Ahmed perfectly conveyed her personality and made me love her.

One of the most important message she conveys is education. Education is actually the enrichment of faculties, development of personality, utilization of abilities, cultivation of individuality, accomplishment of society, transmission of excellences, inculcation of values, organization of experiences and normalization of mind.  Aks Muraad Ali achieves all this despite being psychologically disturbed. The way she copes with her trauma with the help of her beloved Nana is exceptional. She proves that Queen is the most important one But there is one thing Aks believes is really important and it is qismat.

“Zindagi ka har imtihan insan zahanat aur mehnat se pass nahi karsakta, baaz imtihanoan k liye qismat ke ilawa aur koi cheez darkar nahi hoti”

It is a very deep novel, it will actually leave you to think about this life in a more philosophical way.

“Kabhi tmne dhoop aur chaon ko aik jagah jamay dekha hai? Zindagi bhi aisi hi hoti hai  “

This novel has some beautiful and adorable relationships. The relationship of Chirya and Nana . Her Nana is her huge support. Sherdil is portrayed as a perfect husband even though he admires Aks alot but is sincere with her wife. Aks conveys that whatever bad is happened to you, you should be the one to end it and it is beautifully sketched as she forces Sherdil to return Noor bano for their daughter might not go through what Aks has suffered.

The only drawback or the negative aspect of this novel was the confusing names, two different scenarios and I think the main theme itself. It is quite disturbing to read about such matters as they wrench your heart. But I think it is worth it for such a beautiful character it leaves you with no choice but to admire Aks.

Aks is a reflection and it was left for us to think who we are, the normal looking people with filthy hearts or the scary, ugly creatures with beautiful heart.

I won’t recommend this novel to everyone because it did disturb me a lot but friends it has a deep message . It is inspirational and especially for girls it’s worth it.

Akhri Station Episode 5 Review – Losing Its Appeal

As much as we were all waiting for Sanam Saeed’s story in the play, it was quite poorly written and acted. I think part of the appeal in initial episodes were the new faces with their innocence and natural feelings evident from their unseasoned performances. There was nothing like that with Sanam Saeed playing a role similar to Kashaf (though Tehmina is much more negative and depressed) and Mikaal Zulfiqar in yet another long suffering, well meaning and clueless kind of a husband. Seeing Mikaal watching these roles is like newscasters reading the news.

So what we saw was that Tehmina has been raised by a single father because her mother committed suicide in front of her. She has since then become a depressed and paranoid person. Now why her apparently well educated and comfortably rich father did not get her into therapy instead of finding a husband to miraculously transform her to a sunny happy person is beyond me and basically ridiculous. This notion seriously needs to change in our society. It’s high time parents seekers competent psychologists to treat their disturbed kids’ issues rather than finding normal clueless human beings and making them bear the brunt of their bad parenting. Frankly, the sympathies for Tehmina were overshadowed massively by those for her husband who is suffering this for no fault of his own. Tehmina needs treatment and that is not shown happening in the entire episode. Maybe there will be something of these effect in the next one.

Akhri Station Episode 5 Review - Losing Its Appeal

The other story that is now started simultaneously is that of Nimra Buccha. She is as usual her flawless self as the poor helpless wife and mother whose husband is not unable to earn a basic living for their household. They are in extremely tight circumstances and he is not willing to compromise on his ego and work for people who treat him like some low life. He is not able to face reality head on and deal with it, so that leaves her with the burden of earning as well as household responsibilities. She has now found work as a maid with a rich women who is about to deliver her child and needs help. How this will transform their lives and finances remains to be seen..

Akhri Station Episode 4 Review – Tragic

Hats off to the director and writer for finding such realistic details about the dark corners of our society and highlighting them like this. If only they show solutions at the end and as a society we manage to put systems in place for such people will the real purpose be served. Nonetheless, it is a good start and will give a lot of women hope to fight their circumstances especially after they see the worst of worst some ladies have to face and all of it due to no fault of their own. More heartbreaking is the fact that young children are subjected to such poverty and adversity so early on in their lives. This puts them at a great disadvantage right from their early years.

This episode was the story of Safiya, played by Farah Tufail and she was simply outclass in her performance. Her makeup free face, ratted clothes, empty eyes and superb expressions was totally on point. She pulled everyone along with herself into the desperation she was feeling, the loneliness and the uncertainty. She is an orphan who has no one except an older sister who tries to help her out despite her own meager resources and a mamoo who brought her into his son’s life and then forgot all responsibility.

Her husband Pervez is a good for nothing man who has fallen into the clutches of heroine addiction. Despite her desperate pleas for help from her inlaws, they don’t pay any heed and Pervez starts selling household items and then stealing from anyone who will be naive enough to trust him.

Akhri Station Episode 4 Review - Tragic

Safia and her sister still try to encourage her and make him come back towards life, but he falls too deep into addiction to have any willpower left to return to normalcy. Eventually this addiction takes gets him infected with HIV and he has transferred that to his wife. However, on accidentally discovering that Safia has the disease too, her inlaws ignorantly and mercilessly throw her out of their house. That leaves the mother and daughter with no option except to go live with her sister. Pervez tried to come back there as well but he is still too addicted to be loyal to anyone else or even himslef. Sadly, Safia finds his dead body’s picture in newspaper and goes on to request his parents for his burial. They again refuse and she now has no option except to cry some tears over the useless life and terrible end of the man she had once married with hopes and dreams.

Life slowly starts becoming smooth for as she works as a maid in other people’s homes and keeps herself occupied with her daughter. Fate however has other plans and her brother in law gets to know about her being HIV positive. She overheard him screaming at her sister for putting them all at risk by keeping her sick sister in the house. Though the drama ended there but this what must have prompted her to travel to Karachi to find a hope for cure so she can live long enough to fulfill her daughter’s responsibilities to save her from the fate she herself had to bear.

It was an utterly depressing story but we had to see this because this is what is happening in our society. These people, their families and their innocent kids need serious help which is only available to the very rich who can afford such centres. There is a desperate need for quality addiction centres that are free for all and totally take over the responsibility for families as well. You cannot help but root for this young woman with sad eyes to find some happiness and health in her life for once. Very well acted by Farah Tufail.

Akhri Station Episode 3 Review – Less Impressive

First of all, this review has been delayed due to extremely adverse weather conditions and communication disruption in this part of the world.

Coming to the third episode, the story line and plot was very realistic  and very relatable, but the acting and screen play left a lot to be desired. Malika Zafar starts the story by acknowledging that it is not as bad as the atrocities suffered by Yasmeen and Gulmeena. However, that was an understatement since even though her problems were not as basic as being asked to sell her body for food in the house or her child being snatched, they were nonetheless equally painful. To live in a psychologically and emotionally abusive environment is very very hard and it takes a lot out of the woman. I did not find her problems to be any less, they were very much real and very troublesome, but the acting was not at par with the others in the play. The male actor who I’m seeing for the first time had a slight twitch on talking, which was probably part of his role but was not very pleasing to the eye, nor was his dialogue delivery.

Akhri Station Episode 3 Review - Less Impressive

It was shown that Farzana had been so blind in love that she ended up with a man like Sajjad who was not only abusive, but had a major personality disorder. She tried her hardest to tolerate his attitude but there was a breaking point at which she just left with her infant daughter. From getting insulted in front of their guests, to being a victim of constant criticism as a pregnant women and ultimately being character shamed, Farzana put up with more than her fair share in the doomed marriage. This is a very genuinely observed plot because such marriages are very common in our society where the wife has to bear so many social, emotional and psychological scars over the course of their relationships that it reduces perfectly reasonable, educated and talented women to psychotic wives, barely getting on with the business of living and raising kids and frequently on anti depressants.

Farzana’s mother in law was supportive and understanding of her situation and had a realistic view of her son’s shortcomings. Seeing her getting support from her inlaws was the best part of the play. Her mother in law behaves as a woman first and a saas afterward which was probably one of the factors that Farzana did not blame herself for Sajjad’s behaviors, but rather sought out a solution for her and her daughter’s well being. When the inlaws join in the emotional abuse, while being fully aware of their son’s flaws, is where the women usually suffer extreme low self esteem and indecision and keep on questioning their own worth. Luckily that was not the case with Farzana.

When they become first time parents in the play, Sajjad finds a new reason to torture his wife and criticises her on every aspect of mothering. He even insults her parents by calling their gifts cheap and fit for charity only. This is also very realistic of emotional abuse that the husband usually wants to cut off his wife from all her relations and well wishers.  It is the insecurity that makes him want to hurt her where it is most sensitive, since parents and their gifts are a raw nerve for almost every married woman, no matter what the resources are.

Akhri Station Episode 3 Review - Less Impressive

Lastly, Sajjad even starts doubting her character and calls her an irresponsible mother and indifferent wife because she works out to spend time with male colleagues, as he puts it. One day, as he was degrading her in his usual way, Farzana loses her cool and answers him back. She gives him a very realistic answer that he should be thankful of her that she is still living with him if he thinks she is out of the house to meet men. Ofcourse, this becomes unbearable for a narcissist like him and he drags her inside, leaving the baby scared and crying at this sudden display of violence.

I think there is more to Farzana’s story that will be disclosed in the next episode. Stay tuned and share your views about this episode.

Akhri Station Episode 2 Review – Heartbreaking

So this episode brought Gulmeena’s story to us after a brief recap of Yasmeen’s. It was good to see Yasmeen in such good spirits and dreams to make a legal livelihood for herself and her daughter. She got reassurance in Sanam Saeed’s calm and collected response. Aurat bhi toh Allah ki makhlooq hai..

Gulmeena’s story was equally tragic, equally heartbreaking and so so sad. Ammarah Butt did a great job as a young and naive girl who has had to grow up more than her years till the day she could not take it anymore.

The only issue I had was that the use of pushto language, while suited the poor people who are shown as IDPs, limited the amount of conversation I could comprehend in a scene, and even had to go back over some of them to try and get the meaning of dialogues.

It started with Gulmeena transported back to the time this tragic story of hers actually started. Displaced from their village and their home, a heavily pregnant Gulmeena is scared for her and her child’s future. Her mother in law Amma Gul leaves no stone unturned to torture her physically and verbally. Her husband, Yousuf, however is a humane man and even went against his evil mother’s wishes to take his young wife to the doctor. They never reached there though and Gulmeena became mother to a baby boy. Just as the couple is dreaming of going back, finding their family and making them happy by showing the newest member, fate takes another cruel turn and Yousuf suffers a fatal heart attack, leaving Gulmeena and his several weeks’ old son at the mercy of total strangers. They however managed to find Yousuf’s family since Gulmeena herself is shown as an orphan.

Without the shield of a loving husband, Gulmeena suffers terribly at the hands of her mother in law. One thing that stood out was the fact that even though women are shown so terribly suppressed and men so atrociously dominant, in Yousuf’s parents the case is totally opposite. His father cannot even take a stand for the young daughter in law he so wants to protect but is helpless in front of his wife. So it seems, ruling over your household and having a strong say in it is more of a stroke of luck, no matter which culture. Amma Gul is one of those rare women who would actually benefit from a taste of male dominance and chauvinism but she has been really really lucky.

Akhri Station Episode 2 Review - Heartbreaking

In her spite and hatred, the evil Amma Gul tricks Gulmeena into marriage by falsely agreeing that her baby Rustum will go to her new husband’s house. Her new husband, old enough to be her grandfather is an illetrate old beast of a man who has no mercy for the young mother or her infant. In the throes of her husband’s cruelty, Gulmeena finds the courage to run away from this degrading and unhappy life. When her husband totally refuses to agree to let her son live with her, she just packs up and leave. It was sad and happy at the same time to see her running through the fields with her little belongings packed in a small black cloth. A woman running away from an existence which would eat her body and soul if she stays. A woman facing her fears of making it alone in the big bad world rather than staying in the false security of a marriage where she does not even get basic human respect. You have to pick and choose your battles but they never end and Gulmeena took the path to freedom, to achieve the only happiness she has ever known, her little son.

One thing that is shown common between the two stories till now is the strong maternal instincts of both Yasmeen and Gulmeena, and it is extremely realistic. A child truly is a mother’s biggest weakness and her greatest strength, both at the same time.

So it was another great episode by Kashaf Foundation and Sarmad Khoosat. Despite being a little difficult to understand because of language and lighting, it made for an impactful story. So glad they took unknown faces for these roles. That makes it look all the more real, all the more heartbreaking..

Here’s to strong women

May we be them

May we know them

May we raise them

Akhri Station Episode 01 Review – Engaging

0

So finally we saw the first episode of the much awaited mini series Akhri Station and it certainly did not disappoint. There is a feel to the drama which is evident from every scene and dialogue. The cast is well suited and the play keeps the viewers engaged till the last moment despite the dull and dim lighting, which by the way were very fitting to the situation.

It started with Sanam Saeed appearing very middle class, very somber and very practical. She has found a seat in women’s compartment of a local train with a few other women, including Malika Zafar shown as a mother with an infant, a friendly Pathan woman and a transgender who is thrown away from another compartment on this basis. This was followed by the entry of a very hassled and distressed woman called Yasmeen with a little girl.

Akhri Station Episode 01 Review - Engaging

Yasmeen is played by fashion model Eman Suleman whom I believe is acting in a drama for the first time, but maybe it’s just me who hasn’t seen her before. Her acting does leave a little to be desired but she is still doing a pretty decent job. It’s not an easy character to play but Eman is lending it the much needed raw vulnerability and passive aggression of an oppressed wife. Her hair and makeup less face is very suitable to the role. Her story is told in this first episode.

While it’s not a very unusual story, considering the social and cultural set up of Pakistan, such stories are rarely given any recognition in the mainstream media which is usually all about the glamorous divas with rich fathers and husbands and exciting careers of their own. In reality, the majority of Pakistani woman are like Yasmeen, stuck with a man who does not have the sources or the ethics to try and provide for his own family, while the mother being a mother does everything possible to give her children a better life and future. She has no parents, a father in law who is supportive but useless and a mother in law who is in a typical fashion, blaming Yasmeen for her own son’s ugly habits and making excuses for him.

Akhri Station Episode 01 Review - Engaging

This leaves her with no one to turn to for her and her daughter’s needs. When the odds become higher and debts start to pile, her husband starts to use her as a prostitute. She is literally forced to have unwanted sexual encounters with clients that her husband brings so her daughter can have a decent meal. Yasmeen is distraught at the state of affairs and hides her face in shame whenever she is out. The milkman’s reaction was very aptly shown as most people are like this. They will waste their merchandise rather than give it for free to someone who is requesting it, who is then forced to illegal and dishonorable means to earn and when that money comes to them, they want to wash their hands before using such a filthy income. Oh, the irony of this world.

It is shown that Yasmeen was bearing all this but when she got to know that her husband is already marketing their daughter as a future prostitute and waiting for her to grow up to bring their “rizq”, proves to be the last straw for the mother in her. Tricking her parasite of a husband, Yasmeen runs away with her little one and ends up in this train compartment where she meets these strange women, all troubled in their own ways.

It was a great start and has been written keeping human psychology in mind. When you are so caught up and distressed, there is nothing like a non judgmental group of people whom you have nothing in common except belonging to the same gender and that connects you on a much deeper biological and emotional level.

Looking forward to the next story..

Akhri Baar – Shaheera Jalil Al Basit’s Look & Acting Criticized

Akhri Baar is a drama starring Shaheera Jalil Al Basit and Adnan Siddiqui in the lea roles. It is not getting too many eyeballs as it is airing on Express TV but it has an engaging story. This is Shaheera’s second project as lead after she appeared in Razia which was a powerful debut. This time however, Shaheera has not impressed her fans as much.

Akhri Baar - Shaheera Jalil Al Basit's Look & Acting Criticized

Akhri Baar has been a victim of bad styling too. People find Shaheera’s styling weird and it is not coming natural on screen. Adding to it, Akhri Baar fans have complained about her acting as they found it to be a bit robotic.

Akhara Review – Emotional Ride

Writer: Shahid Dogar
Director: Anjum Shahzad
Production: Multiverse Entertainment
Schedule: Wednesday & Thursday at 8:00 pm on Green TV

I must confess, that Akhara’s teasers failed to evoke the usual excitement typically associated with upcoming dramas that truly capture the audience’s attention. I was also skeptical particularly given Green TV’s mixed track record with experimental ventures. However, when I decided to finally watch Akhara after 8 episodes had already aired I was pleasantly surprised! From the onset, Akhara refuses to adhere to the conventions of mainstream drama. Instead, it boldly embarks on unfamiliar paths and primarily succeeds at it.

Akhara has a brilliantly written script, quite a few compelling characters, and for the most part, an authentic portrayal of a world we are not too familiar with. Akhara stands out as a prime example of storytelling with heart, it draws you in effortlessly. At its core, Akhara is a tale of vengeance that delves into the complexities of human relationships and emotions. The inclusion of romance in Akhara is a stroke of genius by the writer, executed with intelligence and intrigue. The romantic elements are seamlessly integrated, offering some light moments amidst the drama’s intense themes of vengeance and human emotion.

Akhara Review - Emotional Ride

Most of the characters in Akhara are intricately crafted, each possessing well-defined traits that contribute to the richness of the narrative. The relationships of all the characters in Hakim’s household are established with clarity, allowing viewers to understand the dynamics between them effortlessly. The writer has managed to avoid traditional character stereotypes, opting instead to present dynamic relationships that defy expectations. This departure from the norm adds depth and complexity to this particular track. However, when it comes to Sitara and Rustem’s track in particular, there is room for confusion, especially after Sitara’s reactions in the recent episodes. It is easy to understand why Sitara feels the way she does about Rustem but at the same time, this track has not been covered as convincingly as the other tracks.

Most of the cast members of Akhara undoubtedly elevate the drama to new heights, with each actor seamlessly embodying their respective roles with remarkable authenticity. While Kashif Hussain’s portrayal of Rustam may not resonate as strongly and Sonya Hussyn might not be the perfect fit, the rest of the ensemble cast is impeccably chosen, perfectly fitting their characters like a glove. Particularly refreshing is witnessing Waseem Abbas in a role devoid of artificiality, showcasing his versatility and talent without a hairpiece!

Waseem Abbas’s portrayal in Akhara is a nostalgic nod to his previous iconic roles, reaffirming his status as a seasoned and exceptional actor. As the dedicated father navigating the complexities of family legacy and the sacrifices that came with it, he breathes life into Hakim’s character with depth and sincerity. His journey of character development is nothing short of remarkable, and Waseem Abbas’ exceptional performance adds layers of emotional resonance to an already compelling narrative. In every scene, he effortlessly commands attention, leaving a lasting mark on viewers’ hearts and minds.

Feroze Khan’s portrayal in Akhara is undeniably powerful, despite occasional fluctuations in his accent. His depiction of Dilsher’s multifaceted personality is captivating, particularly in conveying the character’s simmering anger and unwavering stubbornness. Also, Feroze Khan skillfully brings to life Dilsher’s sensitive side with equal conviction, adding depth to his performance, and ultimately making for a compelling viewing experience.

Akhara Review - Emotional Ride

Srha Asghar delivers a standout performance in Akhara, forming an instant connection with the viewers effortlessly. Her remarkable performance makes Hajra’s character memorable, making it easy for viewers to empathize and fall in love with her portrayal. Srha’s authentic portrayal of Hajra’s character has added significant impact to this track, elevating it and making it more memorable for viewers.

Unfortunately, so far Sonya Hussyn’s talent remains underutilized in the drama. Her acting potential and her character’s portrayal fall short of expectations. Despite Sonya Hussyn’s inherent ability as a performer, her on-screen persona seems mismatched, with styling choices leaving much to be desired. Additionally, the dynamic between Shahzad Nawaz and his on-screen daughter lacks believability, detracting from the overall authenticity of their relationship. Just like in ‘Mein’ Shahzad Nawaz’s persona is way above that of his on-screen daughter. While Sitara’s character may be intended to exude sophistication, the execution on screen lacks in that department, highlighting a gap between the character on paper and its portrayal.

In his portrayal of Sultan, Faraz Farooqui delivers a performance brimming with sincerity. Despite Sultan’s early exit from the screens, his tragic demise and its aftermath serve as the central narrative arc. The strength of this storyline lies in the profound bond Sultan shared with each member of his family, a dynamic capably depicted on screen. Faraz Farooqui’s performance in this role undoubtedly marks a significant milestone in his career. I hope that we get to see him in more dramas that allow him to showcase his acting skills.

The two major fight scenes were some of the most important scenes in the drama so far. However, the handling of these scenes fell short of expectations. These scenes lacked the gripping impact necessary to fully engage the viewers. Shamoon Abbasi’s entry scene on the other hand stood out as a good example of how fight sequences should be executed. His entry scene not only took me by surprise but also set a high standard for the portrayal of physical conflict. Enhancing the choreography and execution of fight scenes could further elevate the drama’s overall impact and engagement.

Akhara Review - Emotional Ride

Yasra Rizvi’s character was introduced most interestingly as well. She is another one of the actors in the drama who is well suited for the role she is playing. It is always good to see actresses playing unconventional roles in dramas.

The stage is set for the ultimate fight and right now Dilsher does not know that Rustem is Chaudhry’s son. I can’t wait to find out how the story progresses once he finds out that truth because that will change everything!

Ajoka leaves for Amritsar to perform at Partition-themed theatre fest

0

A 20-member Ajoka Theatre Pakistan consisting of artists and technicians have left for India through the Wagah border on Wednesday to participate in a festival in India, according to a press release.

The six-day festival is a collaboration with an Amritsar-based theatre group, Manch Rang Manch. During the festival, a total of six plays will be performed at two venues — Virsa Vihaar cultural centre and Amritsar Art Gallery.

The theme of the festival is “Revisiting Partition” in view of the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Partition and independence.

Ajoka team will perform three plays — Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, Kaun Hai Yeh Gustakh and Anhi Maai Da Sufna. All of the plays are based on real life stories and reflect the anguish, pain and suffering of the era of Partition.

Famous theatre personalities from India and Pakistan will speak at the seminar.

Before leaving for Amritsar, Ajoka’s Executive Director Shahid Nadeem said:
